Encanto OC Event Week 1: Mercedes Reyes

I can't draw at all and read that picrew is okay. Does DollDivine count? 😅

Moodboard for Mercedes. 🎨

Full Name: Mercedes Yarisel Cordova Reyes.

DOB: October 20th, 1899. Died June 26th, 1935.

POB: Bogota, Colombia.

Likes/Hobbies: Painting, long walks, exploring, rock collecting, swimming, dancing, and reading romance novels.

Dislikes: Arguing, being bored, her mother’s dismissiveness and people mistreating others.

MBTI: INFP

Height: Exactly 5 feet tall though she was an inch taller than Bruno at one point.

Hair Color/Style: Dark brown. Mid-back length and no bangs. She'd like changing the hairstyle every day and wear a pretty sunhat when outdoors.

Eye color: Jade green.

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual.

Voice: Zulay Henao.

Positive Traits: Compassionate, loyal, idealistic, easygoing, romantic and a dreamer.

Negative Traits: Self-conscious, overly private and a bit too unrealistic. Is very hard on herself when she fails.

Habits: Nibbles pencils while writing.

Talents: Skilled in watercolor and dancing.

Career: Wanted to be an artist but worked for her in-law's cantina while living in Villavicencio.

Family: Her father, Vicente Cordova, passed away when she was 3. She has very few memories of him. Mother, Maria Reyes, who is controlling and manipulative. Armando Zaragoza became her stepfather when she was 14. She didn't like him at first but got along well with him. Half-sister Desideria was born when she was 15.

Eventually was forced into an arranged marriage with Pablo Salazar. They had twin girls, Francisca and Alejandra. Mercedes became close to her mother-in law Perla, but not with her father-in-law Arturo who's not the most sensitive person.

Backstory: After her dad died, Mercedes moved to different cities with her mom. At some point, they met a group of people who were traveling for new starts. They joined and miraculously arrived to the Encanto! Upon the first day, 10-year-old Mercedes met most of the Madrigals. She was getting used to a new home, but desired to find a library or bookstore. She wanted to find a book to a series she'd almost completed. A couple days after moving, she found one and searched for her book. The only copy she found was being read by a nervous looking boy: Bruno.

I'll save it for the Relationship week, but they were best friends. Some would say soulmates with how well they got along. Mercedes was friends with Julieta and Pepa, but she clicked with Bruno. Even when his reputation became worse and he was mistreated, she remained loyal. Bruno was grateful to her and devastated when she was forced to leave for the arranged marriage. The last time they saw each other, they were almost 20, and sadly, they won't meet again.

The marriage wasn't bad. Pablo had to leave his girlfriend due to the arrangement. He and Mercedes both understood each other's situation which led to respect and empathy. They really liked each other, but there wasn't true love. As a teen, Mercedes had always imagined different scenarios with her true love: exchanging love letters, dancing under starry skies and kiss in the rain. She had to leave the dreams behind, but her twins were the best part of her life.

When the twins were 13, Pablo and Mercedes annulled their marriage realizing they weren't content anymore. (Also Pablo was having an emotional affair.) After that, Mercedes took her daughters to Cali and secretly hoped she'd find the Encanto again. With the movie's timeline, Mercedes already passed away from a severe case of malaria. She was only 35. She left her daughters behind with no other family support. Though she's gone, her story isn't over because her children will find the Encanto and meet the Madrigals.

I keep making different versions of the same trope. So I now have fifty starker moodboards. Ten are mob au's and I'm starting to get suspicious here. I think seeing RDJ bloodied inspired them all. That or talking with @starkermoodboards and @heyimstarker . Both are plausible.

Technically, Peter and Tony aren't supposed to meet until their 21'st birthday. The mafia was clear on this: you didn't interact with your future rivals until it was time to inherit the throne in order to ensure no wars broke out because of a squabble in the sandbox. The Italians kept to the 'high end' places of New York, the British had control over Queens. The Irish, Americans and Russians also had their own sectors. The big Apple, sliced into five pieces. It was the only way the city could be divided, if it was to survive and become a thriving metropolis. Five clans fighting for dominance would just lead to carnage.

The potential heirs of each family were to be taught in schools inside the community and none left for business meetings conducted in other districts. It was imperative that they learn how to rule their people first, and prohibiting the next generation leaders from crossing enemy lines helped guarantee their safety. But the Stark and Parker boys were rebellious by nature, and nothing could stop them from exploring the city they called home.

They met in a diner situated in the neutral zone, bodies hidden by hoodies and sunglasses. Fury, the owner of the best place in the city to get a hamburger, took one look at them and pointed to a corner booth. There, dressed exactly like them, were the other heirs. Natasha Romanova, Clint Barton, Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Bruce Banner, and Thor and Loki Odinson.

Nat and Clint had met years ago, too addicted to jumping from trains and sneaking out for late night raids to kill each other when their paths crossed the first time. Becoming a shadow was much easier if someone with the same daredevil instincts had your back. They knew every dark alley, tucked away sewer and crack in the pavement.

The Russians had two heirs, Natasha was a pureblood while Bucky was a cause for debate. Legally, his birthplace was Brooklyn, but the Russians had adopted him and claimed him as his own. While Natasha was treated as a princess, the white wolf was seen only as her slightly important bodyguard. Many believed he should have no claim to the throne, the majority saw the young man as Plan B. Should Nat die, he would take her place as leader. The Americans mocked this situation even when they, too, had two heirs.

Clint and Bruce were cousins, though the family encouraged them to act as brothers. It did not work. They loved the other, would kill and die for them. But the personalities of a hunter and a scientist didn't exactly fit. Which is why Bruce had no problem with Clint spending more time with Nat than with him. How could he deny his cousin such company when he was falling for Nat and knew just how addictive she was?

Due to the relationship between the Russian and the American heirs, one would think Bucky and Bruce got along swimmingly. It was less than that, but nothing hostile. They acted as buffers with their family members, Bucky gently scolding Nat when she wanted to see a band with Clint on a tension wraught week and Bruce shoving a bow and arrow into his cousin's hands when he hadn't seen his best friend in days. If the possibility for a coffee break was there, they'd take it and exchange complaints about the redheads in their lives. It was a simple arrangement that saved them, and their clans, from too much trouble.

The person Bucky got along with the most was Steve. Because Bucky had been adopted while a young child, he and the Gaelic speaking blonde were the only ones who'd met before the their birthdays. Their familiarity and love for each other lead to their clans having a reliable relationship. Steve would stay with Bucky in the Romanova mansion every three weeks. Once his turn had passed for the month, his counterpart would stay at the Rogers' home. Nat was not supposed to interact with Steve, but she considered Bucky a brother and they would often hang out with the spunky teenager whenever they got the chance.

Thor and Loki weren't from the city, their district was far away and no wars would erupt because of them interacting with the five clans. Odin was an arms dealer selling weapons to all the families so as to level the playing field. The brothers were the only common link between the heirs. It was irrelevant whether or not they teased Nat on her red hair, tickled Bruce, fought with Barton or helped Steve tackle Bucky to the ground.

The Brits and the Italians were the ones to suffer most from strained affairs and thinly veiled insults. Yes, they got along splendidly with the other clans, but it was because of their families that all heirs could not interact until they were deemed mature enough to lead their communities. Robert Parker had fallen in love with Maria Stark while they were in high school. Back then, one could take classes with members from other sectors for it was encouraged to forge friendships and alliances. The bonds born during those early years would in the end benefit New York. After all, if the mobs were happy, then the whole city was happy. Howard Stark was certainly not happy to learn another man yearned for Maria.

The subsequent fight over her led to such a rift between the two factions that when their time to rule came, they had decided to avoid interaction with their rival until one of them apologized. But no apology came and their negativity began affecting the other three families.

It had taken nearly two decades of cajoling, scolding and threatening the Stark's and Parker's to guarantee that no wars would ever be inspired by a problem involving love and broken hearts. It would be easier for clan members to interact and be with fellows clan members.

To soothe ruffled feathers and prevent them from being ruffled in the future, the age law was passed.

The future leaders had heard horrible things about their rivals for years, but that spring afternoon, laughing with other teenagers that just wanted to have fun and friends, every single one of them realized that their parents had gotten it wrong. One bad apple in the blanket doesn't mean the rest are also rotten. Sure, it was a bit uncomfortable to be faced with opposing perspectives and having to explain the reality of each family's situation. But it helped them understand the screwed up politics that were in place, showed the heirs that peace was possible if communication and compassion were present during their interactions.

Communication and compassion weren't to be found when Howard and Robert discovered their sons were in love.

(Although he was a first generation American, Peter was seen as British because of his family tree. He'd visited England a few times, but his home was in Queens. It's something he can talk about with Bucky, the feeling of belonging in two worlds simultaneously.)

Little sun • starker

So..... I decided to make a whole fic of my woodsman!Tony idea and I‘ll create a moodboard for every chapter!! I’m actually pretty nervous about this. If there are any mistakes, feel free to tell me!! I just want to thank my precious @lilsoshie for being my inspiration 💓

Chapter 1

The night ends with a familiar sound, his alarm clock pulling the tiny man softly out of his dreams. Peter lets out a huge sigh while sitting up and rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He got stands up on his bed, his shirt slowly falling down his right shoulder as he tries to pull the curtains to the side with his small hands. It takes a while until the sun illuminates his face, bringing out his soft features.

Usually he wouldn't get up this early to leave his bed. But he has a goal in mind since the death of his parents years ago. This is the only way to find inner peace. 'I have to do this now otherwise I won't ever gather the courage to try again! I owe this to him and especially to myself.'

Even at a young age Peter was a shy but lovely child. His smile was something rare, really precious because only a few people could get the boy to shine. One of them was Anthony Edward Stark. Their first and probably last meeting would forever be one of the most valuable memories Peter will ever have. It was another boring night for the small boy, he had to attend one of many endless parties held by his parents yet again. Not even the thought of getting another dessert could soothe the inner turmoil inside of him. Every day, month, year was the same procedure. Being surrounded by many people who were excellent at pretending was nothing new to the heir of the Parkers. Love or even affection was something foreign and he felt so lonely.

Peter startled as a huge hand landed on his fragile shoulder. “Pretty lame hm?” a deep voice that could calm every upset person and lull everyone to sleep sounded from behind him.

“E-excuse me?” the small boy slowly turned around, looking at the most stunning person he has ever seen.

“The party, I mean. Aren't you tired of all of this?”

“I-I like parties like this. So no... no I'm not-” Peter's voice was barely a whisper, feeling a wave of loneliness overwhelm him. His eyes filled with tears, he tried to hold every emotion in, avoiding the honey brown eyes of the other. It only took one person who seemed to feel the same way and his mask slipped.

“Oh please don't cry! I didn't mean to upset you. Christ, I only talk to you for a bit and that's what happens. I'm sorry, little sun.” The last part was mumbled. He ran his fingers through his hair, looking at the ground in shame.

“My name is Anthony Edward Stark and what can I call you?” It was obvious who the boy in front of him was since everyone knew him.

“Peter. Peter Parker.” A small smile appeared on his face as he took the outstretched hand the older boy offered him. The moment they touched, something magical happened and goosebumps spread all over his body.

“Well then Peter Parker, it's a pleasure to meet you. I have to take care of a few things so I'll be seeing you later on.” With that said he disappeared into the crowd.

Despite his usual urge to avoid his parents, the heir of the Parkers approached them to get more information about the mysterious boy who left him a few minutes ago. They were sipping on champagne while talking to another married couple.

“Ah Peter, there you are! We'd like to introduce you to someone. This is Howard Stark and his lovely wife Maria Stark. They even have a son a few years older than you.” His mother gestured to a strict looking couple.

“It's nice to meet you. I actually got to know Anthony a while ago.” Peter felt rather awkward in the presence of these people while still trying to be polite.

“He's such a polite boy, isn't he? In a few years he'll lead Stark industries that's why he applies to study business management at the best college.” The woman seemed honestly proud of her offspring while her husband rolled his eyes.

The rest of the night was only a blur, filled with fake people and meaningless conversations.

Peter was glad the party was nearly over and he could finally be himself again. Just as he was about to leave the room, someone pulled him to the side and put a hand over his mouth. Not knowing what was happening, the small boy let out a whimper.

“Shhhh it's alright, little sun. I need to get us out of here so please trust me and be quiet.” it was just a whisper but it was enough to reassure him.

In the next days his whole life changed and the young boy didn't get the chance to see his knight again. Headlines were filled for many weeks with the tragedy that happened that night. Peter couldn't believe that Anthony Stark was responsible for the death of many people even after he disappeared and left everything behind.

He wasn't able to spare the possible murderer any more thoughts, he had to take care of the family business and be the adult the company needed him to be.

Ten years later, the small child turned into a man. Still tiny and shy but the loveliest person you could ever meet. After all this time, he couldn't forget the person who rescued his life that night. Peter crawls down from his bed with a small groan. Now isn't the time to think about the man who was accused of being the murderer of many people, his parents among them.

There are more important things to do. He has to get ready for his first hike.

After using the bathroom to make sure he looks presentable, he strides towards his wardrobe, pulling everything he needs for the next few days out and putting it inside his favorite backpack. 'Luckily there's enough space to get food in there!' at that thought Peter takes a look at himself in the mirror. As a CEO you might think he'd be confident in his looks but he always felt like not being enough. Not tall enough, not good enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough. Maybe things will change after he returns at the end of the week..

The small man turns around and grabs his checklist for his trip. Nearly every bullet point got a tick already except for one thing: making sure everyone knows where he is and not having to panic where he went. His business partners as well as his employees would throw a fit if he went missing without saying anything. So making a few calls would be the right, adult thing to do but Peter doesn't want to be the mature one for once in his life. Instead of making an effort to inform anyone, he just left a voice message. 'This is the mail box of Peter Parker, feel free to leave a message. I'll be getting in touch with you after my vacation. Have a nice day!'

With that done, he sighs in relief. He didn't know that spending his free time to organise something not work related could be this exhausting. His stomach starts to growl while bringing the stuff he needs in the entrance hall. Ready to eat for five, he steps into the kitchen and gets everything his heart desires out of the cupboard. Peter has to stand on his tiptoes to feel where the bread lays. After reaching his goal, he steps back and stumbles a bit over his own feet.

A few sandwiches and snacks later, the small man checks his emails for the last time and puts on his boots and his coat. He still can't believe what he's about to do. 'You can do this, nothing bad will happen. Believe in yourself. You're going to get the answers you want.' He has to know if the rumours about Anthony Edward Stark are actually true or just awful lies.

With a deep breath he steps out of his home, shutting the door behind himself and locking it, a tiny smile spreading over his face.

Assignment #2

What is the best chatbot you’ve experienced? What made it good? The best chat bot I've experienced is the AI interactive narrative Façade. It's not perfectly done of course, but it's an incredible use of the chatbot form. I tend to gravitate away from the service-oriented chatbots because I'm not as interesting in exploring the one-sidedness of that type of relationship. Instead, I think Façade helps to establish the "bot"/"bots" as “autonomous”, by situating the player in their world, as opposed to the opposite. So often chatbots attempt to help users within the user’s world, but it's an interesting twist to see users being asked to do the opposite. Much of robotic work seems to be in service of humans, and I’m much more interested in the way that humans can occupy the space and world of robots.

Describe a use-case for a chatbot that you haven’t seen but you think would be effective. I'd love to see a chatbot with a fully fleshed out personality chat with its human players unprompted. I'm curious about what the implications for being contacted by a bot might be and how human responses might serve to change how it interacts. We've seen plenty of AI chatbots that have become corrupted in one way or another by humans (notably Tay), but I'm curious about what an "autonomous" bot that both starts as ends conversations on its own terms might look like. I think it would be an effective way, thought difficult, to give agency to robots in an environment where they tend to have none. The role-reversal might also serve to elicit a kind of carefulness humans don’t tend to have with robots.

In regards to the Intelligent Systems Approach reading, the main computational system I came away with was the usage of an experience manager, or an automated entity used to manage a narrative in the vision of a human author. An experience manager must have a way to properly communicate an author's sense of dramatic tension, pedagogical goals, and aesthetic considerations as mentioned in the text. By having a way to parse character decisions, the experience manager can then redirect players in a number of ways. The text mentions both intervention and accommodation. While intervention pushes users away from having full agency to exist how they please in the world, accommodation prioritizes full human engagement, and adapts to it. Given that this article also reference Façade and I mentioned it earlier, it's interesting to view that particular game through this lens. It manages to achieve the pretty incredible feat of both intervening, by kicking the player out or simply not responding, or accommodating and shifting the storyline as the player responds in a number of ways. By adjusting and preserving the storyline in these ways, the experience manager is ensuring that the author's vision is carried out as intended.

Project 1 Interactive Fiction Sketches

Orientation: In a small town in America, your character's backstory is not completely clear but she seems to have pure intentions, making herself incredibly available to the people she meets. They aren't quite taken by her because of her reputation as being"witchy". People don't totally trust her, but they are cordial with her nonetheless.

Crisis: Mrs. Minter, the sweet older woman in town starts to fall ill in an unusual way and others are concerned.

Escalation: Others are starting to fall ill and in a fit of desperation, people start to visit your character for treatment.

Discovery: Your character takes advantage of the situation. She feels wanted loved, and thought it comes through in a way that feels genuine to the reader, this feeling drives your character to (what you discover is) continue to poison the people of the town. She revels in the idea that only she can make them better.

Change: She becomes deluded with power, but guilt also starts to peek through once she brings several people close to death. The death of the people "under her spell" brings immense relief to her tortured desires and she kills them off, one by one, by one.

The set of images below defines my moodboard for my story. I’m interested in painting an image of a small town using “found photography” or what I hope to pick up in secondhand stores. I think that using older photographs will help with not only the ambiance, but the intimate nature of a small town and the interactions your character has with the people in the town.

Below are a few sketched out scenes from my story. I’m hoping that each storylet or vignette can be accompanied by a photo that “represents” that theme. Every time that theme, character, etc is referenced the same sort of old photo will be shown. Each photo won’t necessarily describe the situation but rather serve as a representation for that topic. The first sketch depicts a house in the woods, perhaps the house of the first character to fall ill, Mrs. Minter. Secondly is a run-in with Mrs. Minter at the supermarket. Thirdly, the local newspaper boy with gossip about the going-ons about time. The fourth, a brew that your character concocts with various ingredients. The 5th, your characters house, and 6th, one of many beds that start to fill up with the sick townspeople.
