An Offer from an Avid Reader: Benedict, Women and the Mistress Question...

Post dedicated to @polarmarie's ask! I hope you find it interesting!

Something I’ve noticed while engaging within the Bridgerton fandom is the question about whether Benedict should ask the mistress question. Or how the show is going to reconcile ShowBenedict and BookBenedict’s character arcs due to their differences.

So, let’s have a look shall we?

This post is primarily about Benedict’s relationships with woman in the show and how this might mean a couple tweaks to how the plot of AOFAG is adapted. (Other aspects of his arc/journey will be addressed in another post).

The necessity for these tweaks? It is because the show has portrayed Benedict as a man who respect women regardless of their gender or station, and delights when they rebel against societal expectations rather than being intimidated or offended. Most significantly—Benedict handles rejection well.

Let’s start with women Benedict does not engage romantically with:

Eloise:

We consistently see Benedict supporting Eloise and her pursuits.

In S1 at the swings he states that she will have his “nothing but my full support and adoration” if she was Lady Whistledown. Throughout their ‘swing talks’ he does not ridicule her aspirations but listens and empathises—even in S2E8.

Then is S2 E6 when Eloise says she is attending a lecture on flower arranging and we have this lovely exchange.

Benedict 100% knows she is lying through her teeth. But does he rat her out? No, because Benedict understands that Eloise needs the space to explore herself.

Kate.

I think this is highly underappreciated within the fandom--Benedict adores Kate’s fiery nature.

This does not include his impressed expression when told that Kate shoots.

And maybe one could argue that he is delighted because Kate is dragging Anthony, but then later in the hunting scene Kate drags all the men and he is still delighted.

I want—no need—to see these two interact in S3.

Anyway. As seen with Kate and Eloise, Benedict is shown to appreciate and stan women who speak their mind and wish to be more than the societal expectations of the time.

And that does not even cover Benedict’s treatment of his previous love interests…

Madame Delacroix

Already in S1 we see how Benedict sees Madame Delacroix as more than her societal status and showing her respect and worth. When Eloise raises her suspicions about Madame Delacroix, Benedict is very quick to defend her.

“Do you think just because she [MD] has a paid occupation… that she is different, or somehow less worthy of my attention because she is not what society deems appropriate”

His obvious disappointment that Eloise would view Madame Delacroix as lesser due to her status, reflects how he values her beyond that status as well. His affection would be unwavering whether she be a Lady or a working-class woman, he sees her as more than the restrictive denominations that society has put upon her.

S1 also introduces us to a little detail—Benedict likes being bossed around. At Granville’s party he is more than happy to be led like a puppy with Madame Delacroix to Lucy Granville.

Tessa:

(a couple points overlaps with my Benedict Bridgerton emotional support animal post)

Initially, Benedict seems to be attracted to Tessa’s beauty, but upon their first meeting his first comment is about her talent not her appearance; “I must say that [her sketch] is rather good”. And when Tessa highlights his tone—“I am skilled at more than just posing naked”—he quickly restates his sincerity, (“I do not doubt it”) then continues to find out more about her not her body. (“So you work as a model to listen in on the lectures…ingenious”). As I have said before, this highlights how Benedict is empathising with Tessa, taking the time to understand her viewpoint. Thus, he views Tessa’s view as being worthy of consideration rather than dismissal. He views Tessa not as a woman, or a common worker, but as an artist just like him.

Even more so, we see Benedict respecting Tessa’s boundaries. As @ladyjenevia pointed out in her “Benedict Bridgerton is the BEST Bridgerton” video, Benedict takes his shirt off then pauses before undoing his breeches. It is not until Tessa nods, (showing her assent), that he starts unbuttoning his breeches. Benedict respects Tessa as an individual and respects her boundaries.

And as with Madame Delacroix, Benedict does not mind being controlled by Tessa. In their sex scene, Tessa pushes Benedict onto the bed and he seems utterly eager as she climbs on top of him.

So, overall, Benedict respects women, supports and even enjoys when they break societal expectation. Further, he treats/views women from a different class with equal respect and empathy, regardless of their status. And to top it off he respects a woman's consent.

 FURTHERMORE, HE ACCEPTS REJECTION.

In S2 we see the little dalliance between Madame Delacroix and Benedict cease. Benedict offers, lounging against a doorframe with a devilish smirk, to continue their dalliance. But as soon as Madame Delacroix politely rejects him, he straightens up into a more respectable position, as if they were not lovers but merely passers-by. He nods and leaves her be.

Yes, he is a little stung so snaps at Anthony, (speaking the truth all viewers are thinking), but overall, we do not see ugly words, a temper tantrum or vocal denial that is seen so often in media. And why would we? The writers have written Benedict as respecting working-class women, therefore if he respects women, he must respect their decisions.

So, is it any wonder why we have all fallen in love with him? And is this not great character building for when Benedict meets a certain woman from the working class, who goes toe to toe with him and challenges him?

BOOK 3 SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

The Mistress Question:

And this is where a slight conundrum is happening. Because if Benedict is a man who respects women’s boundaries and can swallow rejection—what happens to the character development shown in the book? How does one reconcile showBenedict with BookBenedict who literally grabs Sophie’s ankle when she wishes to exit the conversation; who is spiteful when she rejects his mistress offer; who continually approaches and harasses Sophie even though she asks him to respect her space?

Personally, I detest a man who does not respect a woman’s boundaries. And due to #MeToo, I am sure a lot of others might share the sentiment.

Perhaps then, we should get rid of the mistress plot completely?

I’m not so sure…

One could argue that unlike Tessa and Madame Delacroix, his relationship with Sophie is deeper, richer and therefore he would not let it go so easily when rejected.

And perhaps we can see a theme throughout his interactions with women--Benedict is very passive. Unlike Eloise who seeks out new experiences or knowledge, stuff happens to Benedict. Madame Delacroix approaches him. While obviously interested, it is Tessa who suggests he get naked, thus taking the next step in their dalliance. He enjoys Kate fiery temper but does not actively encourage it, and yes, he supports Eloise, but he does not necessarily encourage her.

And this is what Benedict needs to learn. He needs to understand that what he has with Sophie is greater than that between previous women. He must fight for their relationship rather than coasting along as he always has done. (More on that in my next post)

So what now?

I do not think the whole ‘mistress’ plot should be scrapped but it should be changed to fit in with the portrayal of Benedict on the show.

A couple things need to go, like Benedict pulling Sophie;s ankle, the blackmail, how condescending Benedict. But also…

Benedict asks Sophie to be his mistress once. This would be at the lake scene (one I shall detail more about in another post).

Sophie rejects him and he does fight for her but focuses on the emotional connection between them. The writers need to establish that this is not just a physical attraction—this will be helped with the fact that the period at My Cottage has gone on for weeks rather than days. (More details in another post). While not ideal, I think this would make the viewer feel a little more charitable because it is not all about sex.

(What could help this is if, according to viewers, we do not know Sophie’s past yet, so we do not know why she is so vehemently opposed to the offer).

Then after that initial rejection scene by the lake—Benedict stops asking her to be his mistress.

More importantly every decision eh makes about Sophie is because he wants to keep her safe—not because he is plotting to make her his mistress. Therefore he is repsecting her decision.

AKA: Ok, so you don’t want to be my mistress but I care about you, and I want you to be safe so why not work for my mother? So, you do not wish to work in London why not work in the country at Aubrey Hall?

Then to fix the whole harrassing thing that goes on, in London, Benedict seeks Sophie out at No.5 not to convince her to become his mistress, but because he wants to support her. For example, Queen Bee Helene being a nightmare? Benedict slips a little note that makes Sophie smile. These little or big moments that show that Benedict cares more fr Sophie’s wellbeing than his comfort by having her as a mistress.

So to suit the views of 2020s, and honour the character work already built—Benedict should only ask Sophie to be his mistress once. Then he respects her decision, shifting his focus to ensuring Sophie’s wellbeing even if that thwarts his plans for her to become his mistress.

Because we modern viewers deserve a man who repsects women, their boundaries AND speaks beautiful poetry off the cuff. Why not? This is Bridgerton after all.

Crowley's pre-fall name is BARAQIEL (THEORY)

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS OR RATHER CLUES FOR GOOD OMENS SEASON 2 CONTENTS, PROCEED WITH CAUTION 🤍

Very well. Who doesn't love the Crowley is the Archangel Raphael theory (I am certainly of those people who do). During my first watch of Good Omens S2 I was even somehow almost confident that that was the case.

However, my second, more careful, viewing of this lovely (but equally heartbreaking) season made me change my mind, likely for good. In episode 4, Furfur's book "Demon's Guide To Angelic Beings Who Walk The Earth" shows us a name of a certain angel Baraqiel. (see photo below) Knowing Good Omens that can hardly be a coincidence.

Unfortunately, the very text is quite unreadable. One thing, other than the name, which is pretty clear is the subheading "Angel of the Sky" and since the episode 1 lets us take a look at how Crowley did indeed take part in creation of what is to be seen in the night sky, one can hardly find that entirely non-fitting. One other sentence I was (at least I think) able to read is "Often draped in red."

(On a different note but certainly worth noticing are scribbles that generally just roast Crowley – his suspiciousness, hair and name (though I am not absolutely sure of the latter) "His hair is bad!" Wow, Furfur really does hate Crowley.)

Then there is something written above the name of Baraqiel, unfortunately in none of the picture frames does it get a bit readable. I wonder though, couldn't it be "former"? Since it comes precisely after mention of Crowley to whom should one report on Aziraphale.

Crowley is very powerful. Dominion

A word that is not exactly readable but can be deduced from its placement (it is situated just as Aziraphale's "Principality") is Baraqiel's rank – Dominion Angel. It should be noted here that I very much lack proper knowledge of either Jewish or Christian mythology and I would hate to provide any incorrect claims. I therefore think it is better for me not to overly state things, even more so since everyone can look into it on their own and figure out what that might mean for our beloved demon. What I will say, however, is that they are (as I understand it) very powerful and, placed within the 2nd triad in the angel hierarchy, ranked higher than the Archangels. This would go well along with the emphasis that was in my opinion laid on Crowley's powers quite a lot this season.

For example: "A miracle of enormous power happened last night. The kind of miracle only the mightiest of archangels could've performed," said Shax to Crowley, to which he replied: "How'd you know I didn't do it?" He didn't get an answer.

What I think (and I may be very wrong, obviously) is that a miracle of this vastness wouldn't have happened simply because of a regular angel and a regular demon did together half a miracle each. What is also worth noticing is that the tool with which Crowley created the Nebula is the same as the one he used to temporarily stop time at the end of season 1 right before Satan's arrival. So much to the size of his powers.

Baraqiel, lightning of God. Fallen angel

Finally, to Baraqiel himself. My lack of knowledge concerning this matter still stands and frankly I don't even know where to find valid information about angels and such on the internet. Baraqiel should, however, stand for "lightning of God" and is also regarded as the angel of lightning. In season 2 there are (as far as I remember) two occasions where Crowley is put in correlation with lightning. (1) His poor anger management issues in episode 1 and (2) his not at all better matchmaking in episode 3 ("I haven't done weather in ages"). Furthermore, Baraqiel is considered to be the one who taught astrology to people. Nevertheless, what points to Crowley and Baraqiel being one even more is that Baraqiel is indeed a fallen angel.

So... That is probably it. I usually tent to theorize about stuff in quiet, in fact, this is the first time I've used Tumblr for anything other than reading Neil Gaiman's posts. I didn't even think that I would actually post it but then I've searched on Twitter, TikTok and here on Tumblr if anyone else has already come up with this theory. The only post I could find (hopefully I haven't missed anything) was by @valaza_04 on Twitter (click here) where they refer to the same frame shot as I do here.

Now I know, we are still recovering from heartbreaking (but if you ask me, absolutely amazing) finale and the main thing currently on our minds is figuring out why would Aziraphale choose as he did and the many wonderful theories that come with it. However, considering the utterly virulent look that Metatron shot at Crowley before walking out of the bookshop with Aziraphale and also his "Well, [Crowley] always did want to go his own way. Always asking damn fool questions, too." makes me think that he absolutely does not care for Crowley and whichever angel he was before the Fall. And I reckon it won't remain unnoticed in season 3 and might even be really important (or that is just me wishing for more pre-fall Crowley scenes). Hence I decided that I will post this. And it doesn't matter if no one will see this in the end, it was quite fun to write. However, if there is someone who will read this all the way through, I hope they will accept my apology for the mistakes I have most possibly made (English is not my first language) and also for the ridiculous length this post has come to gather. It turns out, I am just as chatty of a writer as I am speaker.

Well maybe I will come around to write one more post about this theory, only with a proper research this time. Till then thank you and, please, support this season by streaming as much as you can so we can have season 3 of this masterpiece of a show. And be kind to those bringing it to us in your comments regarding the ending, even though it is very frustrating and heart-shattering, it is also maybe the best ending we could have hoped for with the prospects of season 3.

Doujinshi - [U.S.O (Tankinu Nagase/Shinshu Ueda)] Megami Ibunroku Persona/ Persona 2 dj assortment [RAW]

Personal Notes: I always wanted to upload these doujinshi, but I usually refrain from posting pure raws because I want the translations too…Unfortunately, I cannot defeat my archenemesis </3 japanese handwriting, and Nagase/Shinshu's handwriting is very……..messy x_x. For some of these, I still want to try my hand at translating eventually, but it'll definitely take a while. I love translating little artist notes and there's a lot of those in every doujinshi so if I can't translate something absolutely fully I end up giving up orz. In any case, yes. These are doujinshi made by Shinshu Ueda under the name of Tankinu Nagase in their doujin circle U.S.O. There are 5 doujinshi attached, 3 for Megami Ibunroku Persona and 2 for Persona 2.

Under the cut are some small explanations for the others, but I'll go straight for the P2EP doujin for introduction, as I actually translated bits of that one.

Title: CARRY THAT WEIGHT! - Eternal Punishment focus (PG, small bits of Kandori mixed in with a Post-EP story) Original printing date: 2000/08/12

This is the only doujinshi of Tankinu that was published under a different circle than their usual "U.S.O.", called "ESTMA". I have never found any other doujinshi of them under this label, and if there were any, they might be lost to time. The first page warns about the book containing spoilers for the ending of EP, so it's advised to proceed with caution. After that, all the way up to page 7 there's small gag bits with Kandori, and an obligatory Naoya illustration (they really seems to like him so much ww). From page 8 to 23 is the actual story of the doujin, "Phantom Pain". FORTUNATELY, it was all written in computer text (not handwritten) and I thought it was such a good story, that I took the time to actually translate it at least. The pictures attached to this post are the translation of those pages. There might be some errors in some of the handwritten parts, but I hope I did well.

TL Notes: アンプ (Amplifier / Ampli), The change in fonts is supposed to represent that Eikichi is talking in english there in the original japanese (but that's hard to showcase to an english translation duh), I keep honorifics like Senpai and Aniki as-is.

I was surprised to know that these doujinshi were never talked about (nor were they ever scanned), but now they exist for all to see.

Now, for the rest of the doujinshi.

Title: Reverse/リバース - Naoya and Kandori (+misc) (PG, a bit of a general all-genre doujinshi mixing doodles for other games and a second half focusing on BAROQUE) Original printing date: 1997/12/28. 2nd reprint 1999/12/24. Has a small gag story called "Dead man's questions" about Kandori in a strange flashy outfit.

English Translated (Google Drive)

Title: Alaya de Go/ 阿頼耶DEGO - Shadow Naoya/Naoya (BL, not explicit but Naoya has (implied) sex with his shadow) Original printing date: 1997/12/28. 2nd reprint 1998/08/14. 3rd reprint 1999/05/03 Naoya is called "Isurugi Tatsuya" (岩動 達弥) in this doujinshi.

Title: Go bad/ゴーバッド - Naoya/Hidehiko (BL, Naoya kisses Hidehiko. Seems to have crossover bits from BAROQUE, another ATLUS game Ueda/Nagase did doujinshi for) Original printing date: 1998/12/29. 2nd reprint 1999/05/03. Despite the cover being Naoya with a skirt, there's no crossdressing involved.

Title: BIG BAD BINGO - Innocent Sin focus (PG, done with collaboration with another artist which is Superunknown Corp's sho太郎/沢田翔) Original printing date: 1999/08/??

This doujin physically has Superunknown's side be printed downwards, so you have to flip the doujinshi to read their part which is pretty nice. Unfortunately this is the only one of U.S.O. doujinshi without an specific day of printing, just vague August 1999.

And that's pretty much what I can say for now, at least until when I get to translating some of these (and the folder will be updated accordingly when so)

Small tidbits about my Still Into You 2ha animatic

Coz it's April, exactly one year from now was when I started completing it and I'm in the mood now. + I don't think I made a proper one + it won the twitter poll

Check it out if you're interested... or not! I just want to dump my thoughts and fun facts that I thought of while making this.

If you've been hanging around my blog for a while, it's kinda evident that I did post a promo post for Still Into You back in January 2023. And that first part does have an in-depth explanation about what it covers (which is from the start to the first chorus).

If you're wondering why: TL;DR I can't work on An Act of Kindness coz I was back home from school for vacation and I thought of the idea during a trip.

Anyway, I ramble. Time to get to the actual discussion.

(spoilers!!) The Actual Discussion

Making the rest of Still Into You, unlike Mo Ran's feelings for CWN, was actually just straightforward. I already knew that it'd cover the rest of the book, given that I intentionally focused heavily on book 1 while making part 1.

Like part 1, part 2 was that type of animatic that just naturally flowed during the storyboarding and rough sketch process. The whole animatic is divided into three phases which covers the following: Book 1, Book 2 and 3, and lastly the Epilogue.

Book 1 I've already discussed in an earlier post here but I did find this interesting tidbit I wrote to my cousin:

Anyways the discussion:

Yeah I really wish I have a funny image to put here. I'm really enjoying looking back at my stuff and seeing my initial plans though.

Order at which I made each part.

One thing of note (and actually a common oversight I experience while doing storyboards coz I don't do timings) was that I storyboarded the frames when the vocals started and forgot the timings in between.

So I kinda had to fill the parts between part 1 and 2 last-ish? (don't really remember the proper timings).

Oh, oh! And another fun fact:

Still Into You Part 2 (Rough Draft)

Part 2 was initially done on my tablet in CSP so there's a whole different and rougher version of it. (pls lower the volume if you're wearing earphones)

Funnily enough, this took me like one sitting to finish and a whole lot of sessions to clean up. I do like this process though given that, around the time I drew this, I started leaning heavily into animation and prioritizing getting my thoughts across without care for cleanliness. (Something I felt held me back too much while making Please Don't Leave Me).

In fact, there are some obvious frames that I didn't really bother polishing up (mostly because they're too hard for me or they just flash by quickly). A glaring example is this frame from the third part:

Another fun fact about the scene where TXJ shows CWN the plant he's been raising is it's actually inspired off of a doodle I made for someone in the Two Lifetimes CSE back in April 16 2023.

I just really think that it's super adorable for them. Mo Ran in the the epilogue section alternates between TXJ and 2.0.

Aside from the plant, TXJ also appears in this frame which is inspired from one of the extras. Another silly intentional decision I did is to have him pour alcohol onto a cup and drink from the bottle.

The one on the left is also from (you guessed it) an extra! It's based from an offhand mention that CWN makes in one of them. (Let me know what your guesses are haha)

I kinda just jumped into the 3rd half of the song, huh? I hope my ramblings aren't too much! I just wanna let it flow naturally.

Returning to the topic of the storyboard, I really only had a rough idea of what I wanted for the 3rd half. The references to the extras and even Goutou's appearance just came when I was already putting it into frame. Like, this was what I initially had in mind for the 2nd chorus to the end.

I think one of the notable differences is that I initially planned on doing the half MR half CWN screen transition the same way i did with chorus 1 and 2 but decided against it. In retrospect, I think it fits a lot because both aren't divided anymore.

Something about the second verse + chorus of the song

Like in chorus 1 and chorus 3, this section of the song takes on a darker tone since it covers book 2 going into book 3. It's a lot to talk about so I'm gonna select a couple that I personally like that's worth mentioning and leave the rest to the viewers to guess.

Also sorry not sorry for those who got spoiled by the animatic lmao.

The confession scene

Another fun fact: The confession scene in Still Into You and Please Don't Leave Me are intentionally connected through the color palette.

It's just that Still Into You takes a dump at how it treats it. Yes, the stick figures are intentional. It adds to the funny and tbh Still Into You really is just a feel good animatic. The comedy also serves as a whiplash to the angst hell that is the chorus 🥰.

My Favorite 2ha Moment

Gotta insert my favorite chapter here (ch 184) which I think is one of 2ha's peaks because it resolves CWN's doubts about MR's feelings all this times.

And I'm just soo glad I could incorporate it in an animatic because it's so important to me. AND Like, 'yknow, I think it echoes the song very well because guess what MR tells CWN then?

“It has always been you."

That one frame before the chorus

There's like this moment before the second chorus starts where MR tells CWN something. I wanted it to echo ch 207 where MR felt the pressure of having to reveal that he actually is reborn and has memories of his past life.

If this were animated I'd have had MR match the song and tell CWN "I'm still into you".

Anyways, here's the frame before it zooms in. Physically it's still at ch 207, but I wanted the shadows to imply what happens next which is the chorus.

Other Bonus stuff

Ran out of stuff I wanna gush about so Imma talk about cut content.

XM and the MHX twins are supposed to have more frames (I didn't include it because it felt like it had too much energy)

In the books, Armand first bites Daniel about 4 years into their little dance, after the two of them finally profess their love for each other. But based on their hair & clothes in the promo, it appears as tho Armand is already sucking on the first night and I really don't know how I feel about it. My fear is that the show will change the devils minion dynamic so that instead of a slow burn cat & mouse game, we'll see Daniel get addicted to the bite right away and Armand using him as a human blood bag. I'm trying to keep calm and let the tale seduce me, but I see no reason for this change. Devils Minion is probably the best chapter Anne Rice has ever written; if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

My other worry involves minor spoilers so I'll post it under the cut

A couple of reviews have mentioned that Lestat only briefly appears in each episode. One person said that all of Lestat's screentime from the first 6 episodes combined only adds up to about 30 minutes. I don't have a problem with this because I know that Lestat barely appears in the 2nd half of the book, so it's understandable. But it makes me anxious for what they're going to do with Louis in season 3. I knew he would go from lead to supporting after this season because we're heading towards TVL, but now I'm concerned they're going to severely cut down on his screentime. It's already gonna be tough enough watching the show without Claudia, I need as much Louis as possible 🥺

So I made this post awhile ago and only a few people participated and asked me things and since i love letting my moots get to know me and I found those questions fun, I decided to answer them myself! ^^ /all pos (Ty to those who gave me asks, absolutely no hate/negativity to those who didnt!! /gen) Go check out the original post for the questions I will be answering in THIS post :3

•Therianthropy based in questions: 🥥= Ok, since the answer to this question could go on FOREVER (and I’ve made post about childhood experiences before) I’ll just share one that I haven’t had a post / post idea to fit it in! I used to make tiny, dark, and cozy little dens in my living room or room literally all the time. It would be something simple w/ blankets and pillows but it was SO nice!

Mr. Knightley is again in the company of Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill; his observations seem to support his suspicions that Frank and Jane like each other.

We know that this occurs soon after the beginning of “June” (vol. 3, ch. 5 [41]; p. 224).

Readings and Interpretations

Coo-Coo for Cowper

As Mr. Knightley once again observes the two in company together, he could not “avoid observations which, unless it were like Cowper and his fire at twilight, ‘Myself creating what I saw,’ brought him yet stronger suspicion of there being something of private liking, of private understanding even, between Frank Churchill and Jane” (pp. 224–5). The allusion is to William Cowper’s 1785 blank verse poem The Task (Book IV, “The Winter Evening,” 25–9):

Me oft has fancy, ludicrous and wild, Sooth’d with a waking dream of houses, tow’rs, Trees, churches, and strange visages, express’d In the red cinders, while with poring eye I gaz’d, myself creating what I saw.

Mr Knightley uses this “image of Cowper seeing shapes of things in the fire, to express the idea of looking at events in such a way as to make the interpretation of them entirely fanciful. […] This becomes a superb symbol, accentuating the mystery surrounding Jane Fairfax” (White, p. 68). William Deresiewicz argues that, though this is “more obviously [an] allusion[]” to Cowper, it is also an allusion to William Wordsworth’s Lines composed a few miles above Tintern Abbey. This “double allusion sets Wordsworth against Cowper” in terms of their approach to imagination, “precisely as Wordsworth himself does in the passage to which the allusion points”:1

while Knightley is thinking of Cowper, Austen knew that her readers would be thinking of Wordsworth, of the use he makes of Cowper’s famous line in “Tintern Abbey”: “ . . . eye, and ear,—both what they half create,/ And what perceive” (106–107). For what Knightley is doing at that moment, after all, is precisely “half-perceiving, half-creating”—observing signs and imagining, correctly, what lies behind them. This is not quite the kind of imaginative half-creation Wordsworth has in mind, but it does offer the same contrast to Cowper’s (and Emma’s) creation-from-whole-cloth—a responsible use of the imagination, grounded in careful observation, to discover hidden truths. And this is exactly the use of the imagination Austen demands of her readers throughout the novel, both through the many puzzles and riddles she has us play along with her characters and, more important, through the very structure of the novel itself, a grand mystery story or puzzle-text that continually forces us to read clues and guess at the hidden truths that lie behind them. (p. 9)

Allusions to and quotations of widely read and respected literature were a common and even “obligatory” feature of contemporary writing; Austen, however, tends to ridicule this convention, “surrounding allusions with ripples of irony” (Stabler, pp. 46–7). Here, “Austen, in making her Wordsworthian reference, plays a complex and sophisticated double game” (Deresiewicz, p. 8).

For Alistair Duckworth, the usage of the quote represents Knightley’s appropriately cautious attitude towards his own “well-grounded suspicions”:

By allowing us access to Knightley’s rational consciousness, we [sic] are granted an awareness of the permissible use of the imagination. Careful to avoid the errors of the undisciplined imagination (even as he speculates, Knightley reminds himself of Cowper’s line, “Myself creating what I saw”), he is able to intuit a “something of private liking, of private understanding... between Frank Churchill and Jane” (344). […] Secrecy and concealment, the scene allows us to see, are not invulnerable to the intelligent and responsible mind. (p. 173)

The fact that these observations take place over multiple occasions is worthy of note—Knightley first feels a suspicion based on certain observations, then pays attention on subsequent occasions to see if further observation confirms his suspicion. Michael Suk-Young Chwe writes that Knightley, as one of “Austen’s strategically thoughtful people,” “tr[ies] to be self-critically aware of potential bias”; his calling up of the Cowper quote shows him to be aware of the danger of “confirmation bias” in this instance (p. 157). This passage as a whole is also notable for being a meta-analysis of perception, observation, drawing conclusions, and cognitive bias from the perspective of a character in a novel that is concerned (motivically and on the level of structure) with all of these things.

Hello! Thank you for all the asks I got about Death on the Nile, they’re much appreciated! <3 I’m sorry for not replying to them on time! It’s been a busy time in fandom, with Branagh winning a BAFTA and an Oscar, and film festival awards. A lot of my time over the past few months has been spent covering his ‘Belfast‘ promo tour, festivals and appearances, at my Ken blog, but also keeping an eye on anything DOTN related. :)

I’ve seen DOTN at a pre-premiere in February but didn’t post about it because it's almost impossible discussing the film, or even just hinting at or trying to talk around certain elements, relationships and plot points, without going into spoiler territory, and most of the things I wanted to squee about were indeed riddled with spoilers. Not just details related to book canon, like the identity of the killer, the clues, who dies, etc, but some of the amazing details and twists that were created just for the film. And there were a LOT of those and I LOVED THEM, as I did the canon reference to Poirot’s past, new ground being covered that was mentioned in the books but never filmed before, and nods to other Poirot novels (certain quotes, Poirot’s plans for the future, etc) and even films.

I LOVED DOTN and thought it was better than Murder on the Orient Express, especially the fast-paced second half that felt like a different film compared to the slower first half. The first third or half served to introduce the characters and the relaxed atmosphere of the Nile trip, giving us some of the most stunning shots of the boat, the sights, and life on the river, before everything went haywire on board. The cast had great chemistry, each character had a "wow” moment, Okonedo, Wright and Bateman were the standouts for me (apart from Branagh), certain relationships went deeper than expected and into new directions which was exciting to see, and the costumes, set design, locations and score were all top notch.

Some people are griping about the background CGI but I think the team did the best they could, since they could not film on location in Egypt (for most of the film, anyway), due to the restrictions they were faced with (the existing boats were either too old or too small + logistical problems, which the 1978 film also notoriously had), and anyway, they built the whole Karnak boat from scratch and it was a gorgeously made set, with beautiful scenic backdrops. I wish the boat could remain a museum piece somewhere for people to visit and admire.

The 2nd half kicked in with the building of tension, foreboding scary music, quick cuts, night time shots of the Karnak floating on dark water (fear of drowning, hello), then BAM, a twist you didn’t see coming, and BAM, another one, pandemonium everywhere, tensions flying high, people yelling at Poirot to do something, Poirot walking around like a badass looking handsome, yes, all the good stuff! <3 The faster pacing made me think the 2nd half was more heavily edited/trimmed than the 1st. Trailers have shots that don’t appear in the theatrical cut. Even after re-watching the film a couple of times, I’m still discovering new things through dialogue or stuff in the background!

Poirot being flirted at, genuinely flirted at, and not recognizing it for what it is because he’s not used to the sensation, it’s been too long for him, added like 50 years to my life! :) No one could wipe the huge grin on my face! And the adorable dork that he is, his first instinct is to react in a shy manner and stare at the lady and stumble over his words, like he can’t quite make out whether her interest is real or not. I LOVE HIM SO. Ken’s delivery and comedic timing got the most laughs at my screening. Also the scene with Jackie by the railing when they talk about love, that both the Ustinov and Suchet adaptations have covered before, yet Ken managed to make it his own with a gentleness and heart-breaking vulnerability, delivering one of the best moments in his Poirot franchise. Jesus Christ. My heart bleeds for Poirot. Oscar winner Kenneth Branagh!

Despite having new shocking twists and turns, watching DOTN felt soothing and calming and like a weight was lifted off my shoulders because it’s been such a long wait since the end of filming till release. I remember sagging into my seat, happy and content. It was almost surreal to be at the cinema again. The pandemic may have stalled the release and affected the film’s box office (not unusual for non-blockbuster films coming out these days) but didn’t conquer it; we have news the 3rd film is already written, so let’s keep our fingers crossed it gets greenlit. It’s tricky discussing box office results because we’re in different times now, the pandemic changed the game.

At the end of the day, DOTN’s RT audience score is much, much better than MOTOE’s, at 82%, and the critics score also slightly higher, which is another plus for me. That and knowing the Agatha Christie estate and 20th Century are fully behind Ken and support him.

My contentment also stems from certain theories I've had - and waffled on and on about obsessively on this blog - about Ken’s Poirot for 7 YEARS, becoming canon in the film. :D Another theory a friend of mine had came true as well, even though it seemed too bold and “out there” for the screenwriter to do, yet it happened. It added a whole new dimension to the story, made it more personal, like a sucker punch in the gut. DOTN hit the spot for me, not because it validated my fan theories (as rewarding and affirming as that was), but because the film was better, more fun, emotional and exciting than I expected. With all the disappointments over the delays I’d have been fine with just an ok movie, as long as we finally got to see it, and own it on dvd.

But it was so much more than that, it delivered for me and was worth the wait, Ken’s Poirot was everything I’d hoped for, and that made my happier than I can explain in a single post, or a hundred. :)

After Ken got choked up and teary-eyed on stage at TIFF 2021 festival, as he talked about uncertainties and issues with the pandemic and writing ‘Belfast’ when lockdown began, and how much it meant to him that audiences got to experience it in cinemas, I just wanted a happy resolution and a good outcome for him, both for ‘Belfast’ and for DOTN. And I think he got that.

Jamie Dornan, who sat next to him on stage, leaned over, touched Ken’s knee and shoulder and asked him if he was alright, with the audience clapping and cheering in support. I giffed it here:

Ken nodded and said through tears it was just “gonna be one of those nights.” He could barely speak for a while. “You plot a place in your life when... Very simple thing, you’re very happy, and then, in a minute, it was very difficult to deal with everything that came up.” (He started writing ‘Belfast’ 3 months after DOTN finished filming, and he was happy then, I took this to mean DOTN contributed to his happiness, but then DOTN got delayed because of the pandemic, he was shooting ‘Belfast’ in-between lockdowns, etc.) But all the stress that comes with a movie release in a pandemic can get too much sometimes, and as a leader and director, he’s expected to exude an unflinching confident aura and stay strong for everybody, putting on a brave face, and bottling up any fears or sad feelings. It was unusual for him to break down and he recovered quickly, thanks to Dornan’s warmth and the audience’s support.

His honest reaction moved me to tears. I’ve never seen Ken like this before. ‘Belfast’ had a tight schedule in-between lockdowns, the actors had to be tested every day before shooting, DOTN has been through the wringer over and over again, getting pushed back several times. It’s been nerve-racking and intense and Ken’s been keeping it together like a professional, always cheerful and confident in every interview.

But it’s all over now, we can breathe and relax and watch the films to our hearts’ content, and be happy for Ken’s success. Bless you, sir. You did it. I’m letting the feeling of calm and relief sweep over me as I look forward to more news about the 3rd film. <3

So I had a realisation about dianxia's birthday

In this essay I will attempt to convince you that our dianxia had the worst birthday ever in the history of worst birthdays —ever™

As history lover, I'd like to point out first - that for ancient China, or really, any pre-modern countries, birthdays weren't celebrated the way we do today, annually. → For China, birthdays then were probably more focused on only the 1st, 10th, 60th and 70th. — So this probably isn't that tragic of a realisation from tgcf's characters' pov – but it would be to us (and perhaps hc) — Besides, they did have a Gilded Banquet for lqq's 17th so maybe royalties would care – and hence:

So, was just thinking about how Xie Lian's been passing his birthdays for all those 800 years..

I mean, for a prince like him, as a child there must have been grand feasts; then, at Mt Taicang in his training years, he still mustve received some regards or respects or gifts from his peers and family, congratulating him on his birthdays But after his 2nd banishment (post-Book 4), xl was by himself, alone. Nevermind not having any feasts or gifts, there was no one to wish him "happy birthday".

No Feng Xin, no Mu Qing, no father, no mother.

And from then, for eight hundred years, he probably didn't and couldn't do anything for his birthdays (for himself). Just busy collecting scraps, alone, like any other day.

Then, what about his 1st banishment? (during book 4) When fx, mq, and his parents were still with him?

xl was banished "a few months" before winter (winter began when he first tried robbing)

When he ascended the 2nd time, it was still winter too.

→ So, with his birthday in summer, xl didn't celebrate a birthday during those last months when he still had fx, mq and his parents. So whew.

→ but that also means: the first birthday he passes without his kingdom, the first birthday he passes since XianLe fell from his mistakes, was during his 2nd banishment (post-book 4) — a time when everyone (including wuming) had all left him, when xl had become truly alone.

The first time spending his birthday in a world without his parents, without fx and/or mq beside him, without a XianLe. Maybe that one day, for just that once, the nagging awareness that he was alone finally crept up to him. That all that was once there with him on his birthdays - were gone now. And each absence was because of him too.

↑ After XianLe fell

Now, that was about the first birthday he has after XianLe fell.

What about the last birthday he had before XianLe fell?

→ It would've happened before his 1st banishment, during the ending phases of Yong'an's rebellion — but I'm going to narrow it down. And dare I deduce, xl likely had a birthday happening during the worsts of the chaos:

→ Before XianLe fell:

So, xl's 1st banishment was "a few months" before winter. Say 'a few' means 3~4. China's winter begins Nov~Dec. = "a few months" before = Aug~Sept

XL was banished in Aug~Sept

Still not July 15. So, what was happening much earlier during summer, before his banishment? — the pagoda collapsing, and then thereafter, there were still those battles xl joined, shaking in fear and unable to fight well

Though the time between [pagoda falling] and [banishment] is not specified, those battles that he joined in between those events likely meant several days~some weeks. (( 'several' being 7~8 and 'some' being 4~6, aight?))

So [Aug~Sept banishment] - [some weeks] = end-July ~ mid-Aug

Pagoda collapsed between end-July / mid-Aug

Now, adding that xl held up that pagoda for several days, it means there are two conclusions:

The pagoda dropped around end-July → xl passed his birthday around/within the days he held that building under the hot scorching sun

The pagoda dropped mid-Aug, aka xl started holding it up around start-Aug → his birthday, July 15, was not spent during this pagoda-holding time. So whew. . . . But, July 15 being 'half a month' before, around 'half a month' before was also when the disease started.

And tbh, I'm more inclined to believe (1); because if we went even more specific (aka overanalysing), through the novel's diction, we get this detail:

Throughout Book 2, "in his twenty years of life" was used a lot, describing xl's age.

After the pagoda fell, however, on the battlefield, he was described as "barely past twenty", so you could say he's turned 21 by then, perhaps even newly turned 21 ( and ofc, he did pass his 21st bday at most before the pagoda fell )

So, when was the last time xl was just "twenty"? — —that one day when he, for the first time ever, was stabbed on a battlefield (by Lang Ying); when he cut off that man's leg; and that same day when he started holding up the pagoda.

An awful day brimmed with misfortunes.

So, possibly, in between that [awful day] —then through the days he held up that pagoda, passing out under the hot sun, including the day he cried out his little "save me"— and finally [the pagoda falling and xl thereafter suffocatingly fighting on the battlefield with evergrowing fear of failure],

xl passed a birthday on one of these days.

There were quite a few other clues too; like when his parents came meeting him with torn looks as he was holding up the pagoda — perhaps one of those visiting days was xl's birthday

xl was turning 21 but all he wanted to do was turn back into a 10-year-old child and cry

One last thought:

what if: that last day —before the patients swarmed xl, before he couldn't hold the up pagoda anymore— he received a white flower, didn't he?

Was that day xl's 21st birthday...?

if so, then now, 800 years later and reuniting, hc's finally giving his dianxia flowers for his birthday again.

Withered down to little more than skin stretched across bone, ashen husks are the animated remains of those who died of extreme thirst and exposure. Most are lost as an individual, but sometimes when an entire caravan gets lost all the members reanimate together. These caravans of ashen husks are incredibly deadly, usually able to quickly overwhelm and kill even groups of travellers that they stumble across, and even capable of wiping out small settlements.

The husk's bone hard limbs are deadly weapons on their own, but the real danger they present is the dehydrating aura that surrounds each one. Creatures in that area quickly become dehydrated, their skin and flesh drying out at supernatural speeds. A brief encounter with an ashen husk can spell the end of a group even if they survive the battle, as recovering from the dehydrating effect can use up significant amount of precious water.

Originally from Sandstorm. That's right, digging into a new book and this one I'm weirdly fascinated by. Never really got to use much of it in my actual games when I was playing 3.5, it was actually a random birthday or Christmas gift so it didn't fit with anything I was actually doing at the time, but some of the specific ideas, spells, monsters and such in it really caught my attention. 1. Time:Bombs: The Perfect Podcast, not a gross foley, kiss, or romance-heavy plot in sight. I’ve got nothing bad to say about it, im sorry. It’s perfect.

2. Northwest Footwear Database: It is beauty, it is grace, it has got no Weird Sounds (unless you count a banging song and in-depth discussions of shoes. which i do not). A weird fiction podcast, so not Perfect in the listening, but... still #2 for a reason.

3. RQG: it is a ttrpg podcast. theres very obviously no kissing foley here. Thank G-d, is all im saying. Also has a QPP with a PC, and i give every budding romance an aro thumbs up!

4. Wolf 359: I don’t remember any terrible sounds, there’s no explicit romance- overall, a Good One! 1/2 a point taken off for the mental image of freezer-burned doug.

5. Kaleidotrope: oh, if there ever was a good podcast! This podcast is also kinda obsessed with love, which is nice, but focuses on romantic love for 90% of it, which is less so. Oh kaleidotrope... you need some aros.

6. TSCOSI: I adore this podcast! this is a wonderful podcast with wonderful characters, and I enjoy the ace rep! However, the torture scene in the s1 finale was... less enjoyable. 1 minute of Terrible, but it counts. (we have entered one-strike-territory)

7. The College Tapes: I am filled with adoration, but also, the book and cult chanting is creepy and unnerving. Also, the sheer volume of romantic pining was... overwhelming. Didn’t hate it, but not The Aro Friendly Podcast of my dreams.

8. Mabel: I do not remember much of this podcast, except I enjoyed it and there was some foley that was uncomfortable. Overall, not bad, but... a romance-focused plot, no matter how much I love it, with uh. Weird Sounds.

9. Archive 81: behold, my favorite podcast! Why, you may ask- oh, it simply is the Weird Shit Aro Haven of my dreams! Not a kiss or romantic plot to be found (some of yall ship chris and lee, and i support you, but i never interpreted them as romantic, so It Doesn’t Count on this list). However. the heart-eating scene. the s2 surgery scene. the concept of half the characters? the definition of body horror. Gross! (we have entered into the couple-strikes territory)

10. Stellar Firma: much like a81, perfect except for just one thing, and in this case, its the foot kink shit. Please listen to stellar firma, but also. Hartro’s Foot Kink. I give it my aro sign of approval, though! (I have also only listened up to s2 finale, so uh. idk after that).

11. The Bright Sessions: there are xactly two reasons why this podcast is rated so low on this list. One, there’s quite a bit of romance in this podcast. I’m not against 80% of it, but like... Romance Exists. Two, Safehouse! I do not want or need to hear a man beaten half to death, no matter how much I hate him!

12. TMA: but, you might ask, why is TMA so low? It’s got not a kiss in sight, an a canon ace! Yes, I say, that all is true. It’s why TMA is in its special little category: As An Aro I’m Fine But What The Fuck Bro. An ace main character cannot erase the experience of listening to jon’s hand be burned while I was on a public bus, my Actual Physical Repulsion to michael’s voice, and also all the gore. It’s Gross, Bro! Edit for post e200: yeah.... i must admit the kiss was gross and the sound design really only got more disturbing, so its staying at #12, but... keep in mind that this podcast is simply quite terrible on the ears.

13. Junoverse (Penumbra Podcast): Didn’t mean to make these three popular podcasts the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th worst ones, but what can i say! these fuckers have foley. Junoverse is one of two podcasts in the special category Make Room For Jesus, and juno gets here primarily because of the downright ridiculous amount of making out in it, plus a Giant Subplot being romantic, and also the multiple scenes of torture/a character getting Hurt, Badly. However, not the worst, since while kissing is gross, I can deal. Torture/death/screaming/gore, however...

14. The AM Archives (including Order&Chaos): behold, the pride of the Make Room For Jesus category. I love this podcast/s more than life itself, but I also used transcripts for most of it, so I was able to actually get through it. But from what i could get from transcripts/listening to the finale/asking fellow listeners, its... well, #14 for a reason. And what I can say: this podcast has everything! Burgeoning romance thats, ngl, kinda uncomfortable to listen to! A Kiss (thank you, Order&Chaos, for giving me lovely poly content, but... Kiss Gross)! Copious amounts of screaming and torture! Emotional distress of many varieties (mine included)! Extended Death Scene! I’m sorry, i feel like doing tama a disservice by ranking it last, but unfortunately... it ain’t easy on the ears, and I’m incredibly glad I avoided a lot of it! (...i still did listen to owen’s death, tho. which. aaagh i’ll never be over that one, huh). I love you, TAMA and O&C, but you are hard as hell to listen to.

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- A virtual online panel in both separate places between the Austin & San Diego. Rooster Teeth Expo-Virtual Animation Festival (RTX-VAF) and San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC) 2021 announces for the upcoming 9th Season of RWBY (much actually as Volumes).

For those you don’t know about the show of RWBY, a computer-animated web series was made by the Rooster Teeth Animation (RTA) and a show creator was late named by Monty Oum. He died from the Anaphylaxis of Comatose before Season 3 by the end of October 2015. The real acronym of RWBY stands for the names of Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna & Yang Xiao Long. It's a fictional sci-fi world of Remnant where the Huntsmen & Huntresses to be trained and become warriors to protect the world from monsters called Grimm.

In reality for it’s both places, minus the physical convention panel in America... Austin City at a Travis County in Texas goes for a 2nd Stage (known for as General Community Quarantine or GCQ). While in San Diego City at a same county name of California however (as according to our Research Team of OneNETnews and a local mainstream media like KDFW-TV's FOX 4: Dallas-Fort Worth for example), there is a possibility of Stage 4 (known also for the Enhanced Community Quarantine or ECQ). These stage numbers are subjected to be translated from the Austin Government to a Philippine Quarantine Classification status of Corona Virus Disease-19 (CoViD19).

Season 9 is now currently in production as Yates told exclusively to OneNETnews through our independent news media in Dumaguete as virtually from a group of video conferencing of RTX-VAF 2021, "We’re not quite ready to share Season 9’s release date yet, as the productions team being going well thou. We got a lot of big stuff coming up and a lot more updates to share soon". As from a start of a sneak peek of Season 9, the entire Pocket Dimension known for as the Evacuation Central Location (ECL) is much more urgently ongoing. Ruby Rose is the ONLY perspective point-of-view, among the rest of her team of Yang, Penny, Weiss and Blake; while Cinder Fall continues for a serious opponent against the remaining team members of RWBY.

Most of it's selected pathways are under attack, the muted suspect against the victim named Neopolitan Torchwick (probably not an actual last name in regular). She was the legal age above her 20s at this said moment.

Yang immediately pushes to safety for Ruby but, Neopolitan was slained to her like a half-moon. Almost everyone else (except the evacuees themselves), the rest of the RWBY team were defeated for now (even with her weapon of Crescent Rose destroys or felled off alone).

Cinder lets herself go with Neopolitan and/or Ruby during the 8th Season FINALE, both of them are in downfall the void at the end of the episode (as well sadly with Blake and others) upon passing out for a while.

Ruby woked up temporarily with an a space travel from this said void. She checked out possibly for what is going on, as even with her left hand if it's related to fireflies or something else.

Until one muted suspect sucker-punches her victim's face in the center as Neopolitan did for a domestic battery.

Ruby tries to stop her muted suspect with a severe craziness of anger, Neopolitan shapeshifts herself within a few seconds in disguise. She was backed off with her both hands and punches again, leaving a muted suspect strangles for an attempted throat suffocation to her victim's point-of-view. Ruby grabs her disguised muted suspect's arm, she was quickly felled back for a gravity distance with it's separation.

Neither both of them were landed from this scene through a mysterious island, as she plunged down the hydrosphere waters and washed ashore to sleep for this early morning (Solitas local time).

Just a few hours later, Ruby woken up the 2nd time and notices a single voice to help with. Most of a gigantic size of sea shells and a medium-sized sea starfish are subjected to investigate and explore this mysterious island. It's a good sunny weather today to start off the entire journey of Season 9, immediately after it's said post-credits from a previous season. The main feature sits from this place of a gigantic tree above.

The troubles of a fictional world like Solitas isn't over. Upon jumping it's entire conclusion, Ruby is about to be checked out on foot and went herself with a jungle trees first to see what it goes.

At the end of a Sneak Peek clip, a similar conclusion with a different web series on YouTube called "Meta Runner" in Episode 1 as possibly connected to RWBY. A single commented basher says, it feels like an animated production company as seeking with Rooster Teeth will be cheated out from the another animation company in plagiarism at a later seasons but, the reference points of RTA looks okay with a permission as long as the homework-like copy is prohibited to do so.

As for Neopolitan Torchwick (the muted suspect herself), she will be automatically committed and charged with a Thrice Violation of Article 250 or the Revised Penal Code of it's Frustrated Homicide for the victim of Yang, Republic Act #9262: Section 3b or Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 & Republic Act #9745 or the Anti-Torture Act of 2009 as also for the individual victim of Ruby.

All of these 3 charges books into her jail sentence of 40 total years in prison for a heaviest result of Reclusion Perpetua, as included with a simple fine and punishment between almost U$D2,000 and a mandatory psychological private counseling (as to be scheduled by every other weekends at the Interrogation Room by August 7th, 2021 until further notice for an eligible later parole). She is now confiscating all of her deadly weapons, as soon as a different location arrives but not on this mysterious island this time (in our possible theory).

“Camp Cretaceous” Season 2 Review

 As the title says, this is what this post is gonna be about xD. And, unless I’m very stupid (which is entirely possible), but the whole “Under the Cut” option for spoilers no longer seems to exist. Sooo....

SPOILER ALERT!!! For this whole post, just in case.

 Alright, first off, I just wanna say this show has surprised me, yet again. I was concerned that this season was going to feel very rushed and turn out disappointing since the date for it was so soon after season 1. Because as I’ve probably said in my last review of this show...usually, when things get a date that soon after the first season/movie/book/whatever, they don’t turn out quite well, most of the time. So yeah, the date for this 2nd season did make me feel really skeptical. However! I binged it, today, and was genuinely surprised that it turned out to be just as good as the first season! Maybe even better!

 I’ll try not to make this review as long as my last one ^^;.

 Anyway, first off (again, but for realz or whatever), I knew that Ben was going to come back. I noticed the twitch in his fingers at the very end of season 1. So I saw that coming. What I didn’t see coming was his kinda sudden character development (if that’s what it’s called...I dunno, I’m no expert on the whole character development thing ^^;). He went from a very skittish boy to like, Tarzan. Lol! He grew a pair, and I’m a little proud of him xD. Then again, I guess that’s what being alone and surviving like that with lack of sleep will do to you. I also loved how big and powerful Bumpy grew up to be! And protective! I mean, of course, she kinda did imprint on the boy (or is it the other way around?), just as how Blue was protective of Owen. I just love those sort of bonds in wild animals and humans that they share (I’m being a nerd, please ignore me xD).

 Oh! Blue! I love that they gave her a bit more screen-time! Just like the first season, her screen-time only lasted about a second...but she had more scene cuts like that than she did in the first season! I kinda hope she’ll make more of an appearance in season 3 (yes, I read that apparently, season 3 is probably a strong possibility), and if she does, I hope she’ll actually have a full scene with her in the spotlight, if that makes any sense. She is just like, my top most favorite character in the Jurassic World movies (with Rexy coming in second).

 Speaking of Rexy, our old girl is as badass as frickin’ always! Her roars will forever give me the chills (I’m still so happy that they kept all the dinosaur sounds from all the movies. I find it interesting that she had pretty much made Main Street her little home. I was confused about her making a nest, though. Like, she an old lady, why does she need a nest xD? On a different note, maybe I just didn’t see them...but, I noticed that she did not have her scars. That confused me because since I didn’t see any of her scars, I wasn’t sure if it was actually her...or, if there has actually been a 2nd T-Rex on the island that nobody knew about (that’s unlikely, though). But she’s supposed to have scars, people! She’s a fighter, and has been in some tough battles! Lol!

 I liked that the people who made this show brought back Toro. Even for only two scenes, and Ben had gone up against her in his story of what had happened after the end of the first season. The Ceratosaur making an appearance did kinda surprise me, as the last time I saw that dinosaur, she was in the 3rd Jurassic Park movie (please don’t at me about that, I grew up with all 3 of those movies). I mean, I saw her in the season 2 trailer, but honestly, she had such a small clip in said trailer that I forgot about her ^^;. Even in this show, she didn’t really make too much of an appearance as I had thought she would.

 The Baryonyxes. This trio were very interesting antagonists! I actually liked them, a lot! And I’m not really much of a Baryonyx fan (probably because growing up, I never really paid it too much mind as I did Velociraptors and Tyrannosaurs. I only remember seeing 1 Baryonyx in the Jurassic World movies, but she only got a little bit of screen-time. Now that I think about it...it might’ve been the two siblings in “Fallen Kingdom...because I think one of them died when the volcano exploded, and the other one was carried onto one of those ships. I could be totally wrong, though...but after watching this season, it would kinda make sense and an interesting theory. Anyway, I went off-track, there. Main point being: Baryonyx, very interesting antagonist, actually terrifying. I was not expecting them to sound like that, either. Maybe I’m just crazy, but they sounded just a little bit like the Indominous! Maybe.... 

 I was not expecting poachers to be in this show, at all. I’m actually very against poachers...I feel like they’re the reason some certain animals are going extinct. But anyway, that was an interesting reveal! I was suspicious of them from the get-go, but I honestly thought that they would turn out to be working for Manticore. The show did a good job on making me constantly second-guess this couple! I never liked them, to begin with, simply because I felt something off about them...but they were just horrible people! The woman, I forget her name, was the worst of the two, or so she turned out. She seemed to be the one actually in charge of things. Lemme tell you, when she killed one of the Baryonyxes, I literally had a “uhhhmmm” moment because I just knew that her actions were going to come around right back to her...literally. My heart actually went out to the other two Baryonyxes because it was just...a bit of a roller-coaster of emotions, there! The woman later on left her husband for dead (now, that’s just a douche move). But ya know...what goes around comes around! So, I wasn’t shocked when the two Baryonyxes made their way onto her boat.

 Yeah.... Karma is a bitch.

 What I really liked about this season was that it threw in so many elements of the first Jurassic Park movie. I loved that! I haven’t seen the movie in a really long time, so those elements in this season was a nice quick nostalgia ride for me. Raptors in the kitchen (though, in the show’s case, Baryonyx in the lab), the watering hole (I think that was in the first movie, but I could be very wrong), Rexy with the flipped over Jurassic Park (World) vehicle...all of it was amazing to see!

 I talked a lot about the dinosaurs, sorry ^^;!

 The kids were great, of course. Honestly, I feel like there isn’t too much to say about the humans, this season. The kids get along, well, and prove to be a great team, Kenji is...well, Kenji xD, and like I said, Ben coming back was expected but still great to watch. One thing I also liked was that the kids realized and pretty much implied about what had happened to the Indominous.

 To close this review off, I have just one question in mind about something that has me totally thrown off and kinda desperate for answers.... What in the hell is in that locked room in the lab?!?! What was cooked up that the show is so implying to be incredibly scary and dangerous?! Is it another I-Rex or is it a I-Raptor or a half-dino, half-human creature?! What?! Dr. Wu?! Explain, please!

 Ok, I’m done with my confused ranting xD.

 That is my review for season 2 of “Camp Cretaceous”! I am curious to see what season 3 will bring and what the kids will do, now, since they’ve decided to no longer wait for people to come rescue them. I’m also curious to see what sort of dinosaurs season 3 will bring. That is all if season 3 does get decided to become a thing.

FAQ

What is a zine?

A zine is short for magazine or fanzine! 

The Kinderzine is a fanzine produced for the game Kindergarten 2 by SmashGames, a non-official non-professional project by some dedicated, talented people in this fandom. 

It will feature art and stories, and other content about the game + a small portion of fun fandom content like AUs, non-canon ships, and OCs. It will not be spoiler-free. 

Overall, it functions mostly as an art book with some stories mixed in.

Will this be free or will I have to buy this zine?

It's completely free! There will be no money earned from this project in any way, and the link will be publicly posted on the intended release date for no cost at all.

What will contributors get out of this?

The satisfaction of doing a fun activity with wonderful people in the fandom! /hj

No but really, you get to take part in creating something really cool that you, me, and all of us can be proud of. You get to have your own finished work when this is all over, along with everyone else's! 

No one will be getting paid in money, as this is a volunteer project and the zine is free. But all contributors will get access to the PDF link earlier than the public, and we all generally get to have fun together! 

And I hear the skills it takes to work on a zine is a good thing to put on your resume /j

Is this zine digital or will there be physical copies?

Only digital. It will be a PDF on Google Drive, available to view and download at anyone's discretion. 

There will be no printing of the Kinderzine, and no shipping of physical copies. There will be no merch (buttons, stickers, keychains, etc) available either; only this zine.

What are the zine specs?

1 full page (and front or back cover): 8.5 x 11 inches 1 half page: 8.5 x 5.5 inches 2 page spread: 17 x 11 inches   2 page connecting cover:  17 x 11 inches + 0.75 inch bleed (a bleed is a border around the image where that area will be cut off from the final (usually printed) product)

300 DPI  |  RGB (not CMYK)  |  Horizontal or vertical  |  you can add a bleed or not, but it's not going to be printed either way

You won't be yelled at or anything if you don't follow the DPI or colour guidelines, but it just makes it easier to put it into the editing software. Full-colour finished artwork is preferred (shading is not mandatory; flat colour is acceptable). 

Will there be NSFW content?

This zine is PG13. Content of sexual nature is absolutely not permitted in any form. 

Following the canon Kindergarten 2 game, there maybe be things like canon-typical blood, death, violence, or dark humour. These things along with anything else others may find to be 'sensitive topics' will be prefaced with appropriate trigger warnings.

How old do I have to be to apply?

As I said, the zine is PG13. Please be 13 years old or older, if you wish to apply. 

If you are almost 13 in a few months or even a few days after the time of the application period, then you are still 12 during the application period and cannot apply. Sorry. If you lie about your age to get in, you will be kicked from the project immediately.

Can I apply for multiple roles?

Absolutely! But please note that the more roles you have, the less work you may have to do on one specific role, as your workload will be distributed across your other roles. 

For example: if you are a mod and contributor, you might only be able to draw/write 1-2 things maximum depending on your mod position. Whereas someone who is only a contributor might be able to draw/write 2-3 things maximum, if they wish to do so.

How many contributors will be accepted?

Currently there isn't a specific amount of slots we need for artists or writers! 

The amount of contributors required to make this zine happen at all, at the minimum is 11 applicants, regardless of artist or writer. But we would be incredibly happy to have more than that join this project. If there are way more applicants than needed, we may either try to find a way to fit you in, or have to unfortunately exclude some people. Only time will tell :’)

What is the schedule?

The current schedule can be found in [this link]! Dates may be changed in the future, and will be announced to contributors.

What if I need to drop out?

That's perfectly okay! Just please be sure to let one of the mods know as soon as possible so we have time to prepare any rearranging/reorganizing of zine content that might occur after your absence.

Can I post my WIPs/sketches/writing/finished pieces even if the zine isn't published yet?

Yeah that's fine! You own your content and are free to do what you want with it if you're that excited about it.

Can my piece include a ship/AU/OC/headcanon?

If it's one of the main mission/character pieces, then no. 

Small headcanons are alright but if they're more obvious and non-canon-based you should talk to me about it first. Canon ships are allowed (Bob x Applegate, Lily x Nugget, Monty x Carla (even if it's kind of unrequited), etc). OCs can be in the background as a cameo, but they can't be the main focus of your work. 

If you're doing an additional piece, then yes absolutely! Keep in mind, however, there will be limited slots for these additional pieces.

Can I submit older work created before the production of this zine?

Yes, as long as it fits the page specs, or you don't mind cropping the art so it fits the page specs to a smaller page size! 

Older fanfics are fine as is, provided it's canon-based unless you're submitting it as an additional work.

Can I draw/write a different character/mission?

Please ask a mod about this. If we can find someone willing to switch with you, you can. 

Don't switch with people more than once, and don't do it without talking to a mod first. If you are going to switch with anyone, you're only allowed to do that before the 2nd check-in date. Anything past that date is not allowed.

What exactly can we draw/write once we're assigned a specific character/mission?

Contributors have the creative freedom to make anything they want within the characters/missions that get assigned. 

If that's too broad and you can't think of anything to draw/write, let one of the mods know and we can give you a more specific prompt.

Will there be extensions if I can't finish by the deadline?

Yes! Just let one of the mods know so we can expect your final work at a later date. 

Your piece will still need to be finished before the graphics team finishes the early-access PDF. It's greatly preferred that you do finish by the deadline to make this easier for them to finish their job, but if you really can't, that option is available. 

If you're unable to finish before the graphics team finishes the final public-ready PDF, your work will, unfortunately, not be included in the zine at that point.

What if I'm a traditional or phone artist and don't know how to keep my art to the page specs?

Traditional artists should be able to either scan their art in high quality, or if taking a picture, take the picture as clear as possible with only/mostly your art within frame; the graphics team will try to take care of sizing. 

Phone artists (or really any digital artists) can have canvas templates that are the correct specs, available to copy or download to draw over that I can personally provide for you (though I don't know yet how well this method will work). 

If there are any more questions or you need more help, please contact a mod.

If your art is too small, you can try using http://waifu2x.udp.jp/ to enlarge it without hurting the quality too bad. 

If it still doesn't fit the aspect ratios, the graphics team can still make it work so don't worry! We really, really prefer that everyone follow the page sizings as much as you can though, unless it's really impossible for you to do so.

Wait, there’s a Discord server? Can I join?

Only if you’re one of the artists or writers who is directly contributing to the zine! Sorry! It’s a private server where those who are directly involved in the zine will be invited. 

If you’ve already sent in an application, you will be invited to the server on, or a few days before, the date that applications close. Which will be March 13th, as of writing this, so please be patient until then. The date that invites will be sent out may change, so keep an eye out for that too.

What if I don't have a Discord and can't join the Discord server?

That's perfectly fine! You don't have to make an account or join the server if you don't want to either. 

As long as you have an e-mail, or a social media account that one of the mods have + the ability for us to private message you, we will keep you updated on anything Kinderzine related! 

The server is really just a way for us all to communicate with each other, mods and contributors alike, and keep in touch with the mods more accessibly. But the important stuff will still be communicated with you, and if you contact a mod somewhere other than Discord, we'll get to your message as soon as possible.
