Some headcanons for one of my favourite het ships: Rock & Revy :)

-Rock and Revy will never label themselves as dating and definitely never get married. All they have is an unspoken agreement that they don’t want to date anyone else. 

-Neither of them seem bothered when people assume they’re dating or joke that they are.

-Surprisingly, Revy likes to buy Rock clothes. She’ll get him shirts and stuff that she thinks might look good on him every now and again.

-Rock does appreciate it but none of them are his style :(

-He’ll get her clothes in return sometimes, she’ll accept them…but they’re not her style either

-they both stubbornly refuse to get accustomed to each other’s fashion sense and just fuck with each other, it keeps escalating

-Rock reads magazines with cheesy quizzes in them, he asks the question to Revy but she refuses to indulge him and gives the worst answers

-Especially the multiple choice ones, she never sticks to the options

-They always smoke together after an argument between them. It brings them a sense of peace and bonding that’s special to them

-This tradition started after the cigarette kiss in the police car (ep7s1)

-They get drunk at stay over at each other’s apartments at least 2 or 3 times a week

-During these times they probably like to roughhouse/wrestle with each other a bunch

-Revy likes listening to Rock talk about when he lived in Japan

-Specifically the more pleasant stories, they give her a comforting feeling she can’t quite understand

-She’ll subtly prompt Rock to tell her things or nudge him into elaborating

-Both of them are mood swing central

-Pretty sure this is canon but they're codependent as fuck

I’m bored as hell so here are some Balarevy headcanons.

1. Revy absolutely steals Balalaika’s shampoo and conditioner. She knows she can’t use it if she is going to meet someone or for a job due to how it might reveal their relationship. But she does use it in periods of downtime between jobs so that she can just laze around and at least have Balalaika’s scent with her.

Balalaika has noticed it but just replaces the bottles. In her mind it’s beneficial if Revy at least tries to keep better care of her hair so it’s fine for the time being.

2. If Revy is alone in Balalaika’s apartment waiting for her she’ll take the time to boil black tea for when Balalaika returns.

Balalaika has acknowledged it with deep thanks and makes an effort to get paperwork done early so that they can drink tea together.

But she also noticed that Revy doesn’t like black tea. Which made her on impulse buy an assortment of tea flavors so that Revy can choose the one she likes.

Now they drink vanilla tea together. It’s personally too sweet for Balalaika but she doesn’t mind drinking it for Revy’s sake. And the blissful look on Revy’s face is a bonus point.

3. When Balalaika starts to overwork herself with paperwork Revy and Boris team up to get her to rest.

Boris deals with more of the technical issues of the reasons behind the paperwork: unapproved dealers on their territory or attempted attacks, etc.

Revy plays the role of doting housewife. Which is still strange for her to commit to. She’s never taken care of someone before so it’s not quality A work. At first she tries to help Boris in the field or find informants who can reveal anything useful.

If that doesn’t work she physically stays close to Balalaika. It’s a lost cause to pull her away from her task since it stresses her out if she’s not working on it. But she sits in Balalaika’s lap in the apartment if she’s at her desk. Most of the time Revy falls asleep but when that happens it does make Balalaika move her to the bed. Which is where Revy clings to her and sleepily mumbles for her to stay. It’s worked 99% of the time.

If she can’t get onto Balalaika’s lap she sits on the bed and tries to read Russian fairytales. It destroys all sense of pride she has but despite her butchering of the words it keeps Balalaika’s attention halfway on her. If she’s lucky Balalaika will actually go over and help her, which makes her a stuttering mess.

4. When Revy overworks herself it’s either physically or emotionally. If it’s physically then Balalaika tends to her basic needs. She’ll drag her to their bed and cuddle her, speaking in soft Russian; which pretty much puts Revy to sleep.

Foodwise Balalaika makes homemade Russian meals. She tried to give her food from one of Hotel Moscow’s cooks but Revy didn’t like it. Then she made the exact same meal herself and Revy devoured it. All she got as an explanation is that it tastes better. Logically it shouldn’t but as long as Revy eats it’s a win in her book.

Although if Revy is defiant she’ll resort to hand feeding. At first Balalaika thought it was childish to do such a thing, since it’s something reserved for lovestruck teenagers. Then she understood the appeal of it when Revy licked her fingers.

Water is pretty much covered by their tea time. Still, Balalaika does make Revy at least drink a water bottle by the time she leaves. Enough praise and Revy would be willing to do most of the stuff needed to take care of herself.

Sleeping is the hardest part. Revy becomes an insomniac when she’s stressed and it’s lead to several arguments. After one night Balalaika told her to leave if she wasn’t going to sleep. Revy ended up staying but Balalaika was tired enough by the conflict that she fell asleep first. On the mere cusp of falling completely asleep Balalaika felt the bed dip and found herself being cuddled. Since then, she knows if she sleeps then Revy will too.

Yet when Revy is emotionally distraught it’s significantly harder to not get pissed. Revy goes completely distant, no calls, no meetings, as if she disappears off the face of the Earth. It nearly caused them to split, Balalaika didn’t have the time to hunt down Revy and it was practically impossible to speak alone or face to face.

Thankfully, the only thing that did get a reaction was by deliberately aggravating Revy. Which tore Balalaika up inside, having to talk down and belittle Revy just to get a response. By that point, Revy tried to attack her; couple of times it ended up messy due to Revy always having her guns. And the first couple of times Balalaika beat her, which she thought would resolve the issue, though it only made it worse. If Balalaika won their physical confrontations Revy’s personality flipped.

Instead of being cold she became hot. In a bad way, as Balalaika listened to half words and strangled curses. None of it made sense but if Balalaika simply listened then Revy burnt herself out.

So if Revy is emotionally overwhelmed, Balalaika initiates a fight. She purposely loses and when Revy is on top of her she tries to be as comforting as she can. So far that’s broken Revy out of whatever spell she’s in. If that doesn’t work then she just says nothing as Revy rambles every thought in her head until she gets tired.

Ok, this is already pretty long so I think a number of 4 headcanons for each post will have to do.

I’m like ninety-nine percent sure Balalaika listened to soviet band Kino, especially the song Группа Крови (which became anti-war anthem during the afghan-soviet war), also check out Звезда по имени солнце (online there are translations for both of the songs, lyrics are great)

When he's not being a sex pest to anything with a pulse and an unused hole, he is seen amongst the city, exercising the will of his parents.

And that mostly entails meeting with standing business partners who wish to go over details, going over plans of their expansion within the scope of the city, and seeing if any of them within the group is plotting something.

But also, he's responsible for managing their affairs and seeing if they're truly doing the work they promised to do or if they're just taking the goodwill of his parents and wasting it on useless endeavors like human trafficking and slavery.

Speaking of the city, the City that his mother looks over is one of the excommunicated, lawless zones that are officially not looked over by any government. It was once a lawless zone where every type of crime and violent act took place but within the years that Alejandra, his mother, appeared to tame it, she took it from a lawless, crime-riddled city into one that's seeing humanity return to. Of course, it's still a city that practices in shady behaviors and crime, as the city is run by a crimeboss that has hands in EVERYTHING within the city she runs, but the defacto puppet leaders she set up as stand-ins for her are doing well enough to exercise her will.

to me this song is basically literally just Revy's theme, and im curious to hear other peoples thoughts on this. IMHO it fits her eerily, eerily well......

you can find translations online if ur curious, but just take a look at the snippets below:

Albatross is finally done! I know he looks nothing like how he was described in the books but when I think of Albatross this is what I imagine for some reason. I stay loyal to the headcanon (may be canon now, not sure) that Albatross has icewing blood in him so I tried to incorporate that. I also headcanon that Lagoon would rip at his fins when he wouldn't do what she wanted, I feel like she started to do it when they were younger. I also remember the control pmv animation and I remember him having red irises and a black sclera when he went insane so I used that in the drawing as well <33. Also ive just now realized he looks like anemone, that wasnt my intention but it makes sense so oh well, i hope you enjoy looking at him :) (Click for better viewing) also dont mind his wonky neck 😋

Thank you for the compliment ! ^3^ Unfortunately, I don't have much headcanons about Revy ? Or, rather, I don't think about it so much, if that makes sense ?

With the few hints we were given about her backstory, overall I tend to think that :

she killed her dad and the cop who raped her ?

she went to prison for some time (confirmed in the arc with Feng)

she's really close friends with Eda despite how much they bicker sometimes

she's also kinda friends with Shenhua, Sawyer and Lotton despite how weird that sounds even to me xDDD

she definitely has a crush on Rock though I doubt that she noticed it herself, as of right now in the story

she used to be a stripper in a BDSM show to make a living (I think that's also confirmed but it's been a while since I read the series from the start), which is why she was so good at it in Shaitane Badi and in the arc with Feng

maybe she'll be the one to kill Jane someday (but that would mean that she and Benny would become enemies and no one wants that)

I also always wondered how she and Dutch met, as well as who taught her to use two guns (becoming known as "Two Hands Revy"), but I have yet to think of believable ideas. x)

Anyway, that's all. She's really the soul of the Black Lagoon series (with Rock obviously), but the fact that BL subverts gender norms makes her even more extra special as a heroine in my opinion.

can't be bothered to find the og post rn ( think i might have deleted it bc it was a lowkey kind of spooky season joke. ) but in it i referenced a headcanon i had regarding raven's ability to manifest monsters subconsciously, as demonstrated in the t.een titans cartoon. i mentioned it in another post last night here but i'd like to expand on that. as the episode itself points out via robin, the monster / creature itself was not real. it was just the embodiment of raven's own fear. therefore, none of the characters were in any danger. this is where the hc part comes in. this still occasionally happens once raven's reached adulthood. though rarely, and very sporadically. ( for example, your muse walks in to find her asleep, and there's the fucking. creature from the black lagoon hanging out near her or smth. ) your muse isn't gonna get hurt. its chill, it's fine. she'll get it if you freak out though.

i always threaten to make a low activity blog for lagoona's dad &. considering there's been debate on collector twitter today about who her og monster parent was supposed to be and i, his biggest fan who got the reference right away, need to put him out there tomorrow. that's right baby lula's headcanon creature from the black lagoon. a study on being an extinct species, the effects of colonization &. forced adaptionism, but mostly being a grilldad. you can shape of water him if you want, he's very divorced.

Balalaika: Black Lagoon's Monster

This post is going to be another long one so strap in. Once again, it's soley on Balalaika, but I may stray off a bit too.

Since I already adressed in my last big post about her differnces in manga and anime, this is going to center around how well her depiction (normally) is in the maga. Don't get me wrong, Anime Balalaika is terrifying as well but the manga in some panels takes it up a notch.

I'll share the specific panels that made me decide to cover this topic anyway.

All of these are terrifying. Legitimately I forgot how brutal the manga panels were in this. I'll go down each one and point out how I think they're effective in their use of envoking fear.

In the first image she is grinning with her teeth bared, and you can see how sharp they are. It's like she's a shark that got the first whiff of blood. Take notice of the man (I honestly forgot his name).

His teeth are depicted as well but there are just two that seem pointy. Even so, they're not as jagged or rigid as hers, in fact they look more blunt, akin to a prey animal.

Honestly her lipstick makes the whiteness of her canines pop out more and I'm wondering if she actually even thought of the tactical advantadge it gives in terms of intimidation. Probabaly not, but hey, let me headcanon here. I would assume she chose pink since it's more natural yet it still pops. And I'm not sure how well the red lipstick would go with her red suit, which would obviosuly be a lot duller due to its fabric.

Anyway, both her and the man's eyes are not shown. I'm not an artist but it's very important here and I think I can explain why.

Eyes are the window to the soul. Or at least the most reliable way to know what emotions someone is feeling. You can't quite fake a look if your eyes stay the same. So by removing the access to emotions, it acts as a blocking point. We don't see their eyes, therefore we can't really see the extent of what they're feeling. We can only assume or place ourselves in the situation to guess what emotions might be present.

A good refernce would be the monster under the bed. You don't know what it looks like, but you use all experience or imagination possible to create one that will scare you. So by not seeing Balalaika's eyes or his, we can only conjure up worse images than what could actually be presently there.

Eyes are also what most classical artists use to convey pain. Here are the most notable examples.

We literally cannot even comprehend the type of pain this poor man is in. Ok, maybe not that much but choosing to limit the pain to the rest of his face does hide whatever expression he is making. Even so, there's not a whole lot to accurately measure his pain. There is only his teeth, grinding in pain, and blood. Not a whole lot to go off of.

But one notable detail is his feet. They are not touching the ground. In fact, he is actvely trying to stop himself from choking to death in her grip. Also, her heels make her considerably taller since his feet appear to be sliding against the ground. He's probabaly only a couple of inches off the ground but consider Balalaika.

She's 5'10, only wearing heels, already disarmed him with her back turned, and during this entire exchange with Rock is holding him steadily above the ground. That may not mean much but to me it's a lot.

He is a full grown man. The estimated average height for Japanese males is 5'7 and their weight is 138lbs.

Need I remind you that she kept this man up so he was actively choking, and still was able to snap Rock around onto a car hood with one hand.

This guy is fucking dying and she's not breaking a sweat. (Queen behavior tbh)

Onto the second panel. I want to focus on Balalaika's face. Her eyes have an emotion I can't find the word for. Playfulness I guess? Or some type of manic state of power or happiness. You can just tell by her raised brow and the slant of her eyes that she's just toying with Rock here. It's all a display of her raw strength.

The next panel is worse in my opinion. Her entire scarred side is blacked out. Sickingly, her right eye looks more like a socket since the scar overlaps it. And the blackness of her suit makes her look like some grim reaper. Overall, I'm scared shitless.

Yet the final image was the last straw for me.

That look from her, the solid stare that is directed at Rock (the audience in effect) is terrible. She doesn't have the same joy from the prebvious panels. That could be due to her mouth being hidden but it's one of rage and suffering. Look back to the classical depictions of eyes. Looks a bit similar, right?

Also, personally the one that looks the most alike is the Fallen Angel by Alexandre Cabanel. Which to me is so ironic that it's sad.

Another sad thing is that the pupil size in the last panel, or specifically in the right/scarred eye can be a result of the scarring. Which to me seems to be affected a lot under bright light or is just permanetely damaged in that imitation state that pupils do when introduced to it. I would say the former, just to fit another headcanon neatly; her office only holds seemingly softer lights, notably the orange/yellow one on her desk.

Finally, the worst and most important fact is that in these panels Balalaika admits it's been a while since she's done hand to hand combat. What?! She just took an armed man down and she's not even at her peak soldier state. As Boris says, playing mafia does dull the senses.

So yeah. Rememember that we have literally never seen Balalalaika attempt to be as physically pro-active as Roberta. She hasn't had a reason too. It's just jaw-dropping to think what Balalaika's true combat prowess is since we've only seen glimpses of it. Better yet, how good was she as a sniper to get her nickname?

Only our imagination can help us there, but considering the feats of Roberta Balalaika's sniper shots must be inhuman.

universal classic monster headcanon asks! 

Frankenstein: if your muse had to choose, what three traits describe them the most? who taught them these traits, and who do they think had the most influence in making them who they are? 

1). Independent 2). Stubborn 3). Compassionate. These traits were taught to her by her father, and he had the most influence over her and who she became.

The Invisible Man: does your muse feel unseen by the people around them? do they find it difficult to make others take notice of them? how does being ignored / unnoticed make them feel?

Andrea is very capable of making herself known and seen. She's never had that problem.

The Phantom of the Opera: what aspect of your muse do they think is hardest for people to accept? do they try to keep it secret / are they afraid of being ostracized if it’s found out?

Andrea is probably hardest to accept when she feels she's right even though she's not. She isn't afraid to say what she thinks or feels and isn't afraid of being ostracized for it. She's got tough skin.

Creature from the Black Lagoon: has your muse ever discovered / seen something unusual? did they try to tell anyone about it? how did others respond? 

Andrea doesn't believe in things like UFOs or Sasquatch so she hasn't seen anything unusual to want to tell anyone about it.

Frankenstein: if your muse had to choose, what three traits describe them the most? who taught them these traits, and who do they think had the most influence in making them who they are? 

1). Fidgety 2). Loyal 3). Moody. His father caused him to be moody and fidgety, but team family taught him how to be loyal by loving and accepting him for who and what he is.

The Invisible Man: does your muse feel unseen by the people around them? do they find it difficult to make others take notice of them? how does being ignored / unnoticed make them feel?

Daryl grew up being unnoticed by people, and while it hurt as a kid, he has gotten used to it. When someone does notice him, it makes him embarrassed and self-conscious. It depends on the person that has noticed him or is blatantly ignoring him whether it would hurt or not.

The Phantom of the Opera: what aspect of your muse do they think is hardest for people to accept? do they try to keep it secret / are they afraid of being ostracized if it’s found out?

Daryl is very blunt and doesn't beat around the bush. He doesn't care who he offends (to a degree). It used to be worse before the Outbreak, and he can still be that way with strangers. He's not afraid of showing who he is. People can either like him or don't.

Creature from the Black Lagoon: has your muse ever discovered / seen something unusual? did they try to tell anyone about it? how did others respond? 

Daryl has seen a chupacobra. He has told everyone about it, but nobody believed him.

Frankenstein: if your muse had to choose, what three traits describe them the most? who taught them these traits, and who do they think had the most influence in making them who they are? 

1). Dependable 2). Loving 3). Quiet. His mother had the most influence on him for all three above traits. She taught him to speak mostly when he had something important that needed to be said and heard. She molded him more than any other person in his life.

The Invisible Man: does your muse feel unseen by the people around them? do they find it difficult to make others take notice of them? how does being ignored / unnoticed make them feel?

If anything, Rick feels too seen by others. He wishes that he could disappear into the background and be less visible sometimes. He would welcome being ignored or going unnoticed.

The Phantom of the Opera: what aspect of your muse do they think is hardest for people to accept? do they try to keep it secret / are they afraid of being ostracized if it’s found out?

Rick's hardest aspect would probably be that he doesn't speak unless he absolutely has something to say. They want him to be the voice all the time, but he cannot be as he doesn't feel the desire to make those overall decisions for people. He can't hide who he is from others so those who know him well, know that he is like this.

Creature from the Black Lagoon: has your muse ever discovered / seen something unusual? did they try to tell anyone about it? how did others respond? 

Rick hasn't seen anything unusual, but after the dead started to walk the earth, he'd come near believing anything, and he's sure others would.
