CJ was pretty much born with a reputation thanks to her parents. They were both known for trouble and had quite the tumultuous, toxic relationship, not getting married until after CJ was born. Neil's family was constantly in trouble with the law and he was no different. He probably spent more time in prison than CJ ever actually saw him. And her mother was a piece of work as well, being a prostitute and con artist, but not to support her kids. More for her own drugs and drinking habits.

She always came from the wrong part of town, the older, more beat up, poorer part of Los Angeles. You know, that part of the neighborhood people say to avoid, especially at night. They moved around from shitty housing to shitty apartments, mostly to avoid parole officers and people looking to get their money back. And as she grew up in that area, CJ found her own trouble at times. It quickly led to rumors about her, everything from the things her dad did to get put in prison (mostly true), the things her mom did around town (definitely true), and even questioning if her dad was really her dad (possibly true). And for some reason, everyone seemed to think she was just like her mother, who she looked a lot alike.

She didn't realize people were drawing those conclusions until eighth grade, when she went on her first date and the boy tried to feel her up. She slapped him and told him no and he said she should probably be used to it considering what a whore her mom was. The next day, everyone had heard the rumor that she had slept with a boy on the first date, even though she had only had her first kiss.

From there, the rumors grew. CJ was known as the slut all through high school, the homewrecker and easiest girl in town. What those people didn't know is that she had only slept with a few people, that most of the guys who claimed they fucked her she had never spoken to. Some guys even tried to force themselves on her, thinking they were entitled to it. Those people also didn't know that the reason she skipped school so often was because her mom was on a bender and she had to take care of her sick siblings, or work extra shifts wherever she could get hired to pay the bills her mom forgot about.

Yes, as her father was in jail and her mother usually disappeared, it was up to her to raise her three siblings and try to keep the lights on and food on the table. She was the one who made sure they got to school, even if that meant she was late. That they got their homework done when hers hardly ever did. All her dreams were pushed to the side for her siblings, who she loved most in the world. She even ended up dropping out senior year because she needed to be able to work full time.

She quickly took any work she can, except prostitution. It reminded her too much of her mother. CJ was a waitress, a babysitter, a gardener, a delivery person... basically anything that would pay the bills. Not all of it was legal, but at least she got cash and could make sure they weren't kicked out. The first time she stripped was the month before Christmas. Her siblings knew better than to ask for a bunch of stuff, but she knew what they really wanted. And she told herself that for once, they were going to get a damn good Christmas. So she let go of her past and became a dancer, taking her clothes off for more money than she usually made. She didn't tell her siblings, not wanting them to think of her like their mom or be ashamed. But they did have a good Christmas that year. It wasn't something she wanted to keep doing, especially with the expectations of some customers of wanting more than just a dance, but she occasionally would do it when money was low.

It all paid off though, since her siblings got to live out their dreams to the best of her ability. They got to graduate and go on to do what they wanted. She told them not to worry about her or the others, to just get out of there the minute they could. Even if she felt stuck in her life, she didn't think they needed to be. They had a chance to escape. CJ had given up on her dreams of escape, of any sort of better life. She felt like this was just what she deserved now, that she didn't get happiness. But she would fight like hell for her siblings to have that. If she had gotten the chance, CJ would have loved to have actually gone to college, to become a veterinarian like she always dreamed of, but that's not the case.

Now that her siblings are all grown up, CJ has their shitty apartment that really isn't livable at all (hell, the entire building should be condemned) all to herself. She still has lots of debts to try and make up for, but she's getting by. She got a slightly fancier job as a courier, making bank taking those expensive contracts and papers around Hollywood for big shots. It means she has to strip less, but doesn't fully make up for everything, hence still waitressing.

When she gets the chance, she has her own fun. She is always dying her hair different colors or having her friends give her tattoos. She makes friends with the right people, the same ones who work shitty jobs like her. And often, they'll help her out by telling her if they need extra hands at a catering event or letting her in to the cool parties in Hollywood. They let her in the side doors or no cover charge and she has their backs too. Might as well take advantage of free food and drinks whenever she can.

Personality wise, CJ grew up way too quickly, giving her a very jaded and pessimistic view of the world and especially people. She doesn't trust people easily but those she does, she will fight for. She is very used to people knowing her reputation, so she assumes they do even before they open their mouths. Granted, she has learned that not all people believe the rumors, but it is still hard for her to shake. She has a lot of resentment for her parents and people who aren't thankful for the privileges they have, like not having to worry about money or family that cares about you. She has a habit of downplaying her struggles, not letting the people that care know how bad she has it.

She has had very few actual relationships because of the rumors, afraid that people only want her because of what they can get out of her. zoya’s background isn’t really something what you can talk about for hours. it’s not really a book material, more like your usual rich parents scenario - mother is too focused on her career and father is left with two children to raise. the amount of times their mother took care of her or her older brother, zoya could probably count with the use of her one hand.

you don’t open your google search when you hear about the wylies, unless you’ve been living under the rock for the past two decades. the birth of their children itself made enough of noise to make top headlines for weeks straight. but living with every head turning when they hear your name and family with exceptations that are growing with every birthday cake you eat, there are definitely more downs than ups. and sometimes it felt as if zoya was born in a wrong family ; constant hours spent by the mirror, because she needs to be sized for her new dress ( because hell would freeze first instead of zoya’s mother letting her show up to a public event in a dress she was photographed before ) and her mother only cheerishing their relationship when she stayed for another two days per week. while her father, on the other hand, sometimes acted as if nothing else existed but zoya. and it was nice when she was young, because after all, he was making it up to her for her mother not being around. she loved his dad and he for sure loved her, except zoya was too young and naive to notice that while their father was spoiling the youngest daughter, he was also mistreating his oldest son and maybe that’s why she doesn’t remember the last conversation with her brother that didn’t result in a fight.

growing up, zoya was kind of searching for herself. in one night stands, bad friends and significant others, parties and different types of drugs and anything a young girl shouldn’t experience. trips to different cities and sometimes even countries, her curefew going from 10pm to 1am to whenever she felt like coming back. ironically, all of this brought her to possibly her soulmate. her best friend, dom. they were never romantically involved in anything, but there wasn’t a single minute they didn’t spend together. and to keep it more ironic, they had two completely different realities. she was upper east side’s princess, while he was barely passing classes in a public high school. probably that’s why everyone in her house was against him and probably this is what started her first fights with her father, pushing her away from him. but for zoya, it was dom before anyone else. being around him, she felt understood and it never took her a lot of explanation for him to get her. sometimes they didn’t even need words.

but her entire world collapsed during one night. she sneaked out of the window after being grounded for coming home late and drunk. it was the first time her father ever grounded her. and one of the many reasons why this night will always be in her nightmares is because she would never see it coming. nothing ever prepared her to the view of ambulances and dom’s mother and sisters crying in front of their house. her best friend overdosed. her world ended.

it’s funny, because for someone from outside, for a moment it looked as if her world fixed. her father barely left her side, unable to watch his dearest daughter barely live her life and even her mother actually lived with them. but nothing was fixed and especially not zoya. constant events her family was invited to, yacht parties and everything you could think of when you imagine a life in the most famous family was beyond her. first it was sneaking out of the parties, then it was sneaking out and stealing expensive champagne until she was spotted on tmz headlines almost every other week, because caught making out with a lower class or coming back in the middle of the night wasted, with a waiter’s tie around her neck was beyond everything else in her world of spotlight.

she’s definitely a hot topic in basically everywhere. zoya has a lot of labels which she stopped caring about as well and honestly, she just lets everyone think whatever they want. she was definitely called possibly everything, from a slut to junkie and it’s not something she cries about to her sleep but it’s also not something she bothers to explain to strangers. and maybe she doesn’t bother because she knows her father will always clean her mess, he will always be there and never turn his back on her, no matter what she does. and perhaps she’s been testing how far can she go, because her scandals don’t stop.

zoya definitely has layers. you need to get through them while getting to know her and it’s your choice on which layer you want to stop and meet her. quite suspicious, very cautious when she’s trusting anyone. her perception of relationships between people is definitely broken due to her parents divorce and everything she had to watch throughout the years.

learnt from the not so good experiences, zoya is definitely puzzled. she’s definitely walking around with a resting bitch face but is actually very genuine and charming when you get to know her. doesn’t have a lot of friends due to her reputation but also her own choice of not letting herself get too attached to people, but definitely is loved amongst the friends she has. the type of person who doesn’t make small talks, but if you start one with her, she’ll definitely jump in and keep going. very spontaneous, which makes her a great companion. either jumps all in or doesn’t jump at all so any feelings with her are hard but you’ll know for sure that she’s here to stay.

If anyone were to ask Maya what she believed other people thought of her as, her response would be how she’s a nobody. How she was irrelevant to them, a ghost, someone who can be easily forgotten without even trying, a tiny speck among the other people within the world, and just overall is a person who doesn’t have that much significance within it in general. She—Maya Hart—was a nobody, and you know what? She was completely fine with that because she already knew she wasn’t meant for big things and that’s okay. Besides, there were only a handful of people within Maya’s life who’s opinions actually mattered, and it’s their opinion alone is what she actually cares about the most.

Grew up in a tiny apartment with her mom, and is still currently living in that tiny apartment with her mom. It’s been just the two of them for most of Maya's life as her dad has been out of her life since she was five-years-old. Back when she was younger, she use to believe that her mom was the reason for why her dad wasn’t around anymore and would even blame her for him being gone. It also didn’t help that her mom didn’t want to break Maya’s perception of her dad, wanting her daughter to still think that he cared for her even though the reality was that he had left both Maya and her mom behind. Yep. He didn’t care for either of them, and had just up and abandoned them to start a whole other life with a whole new family. May doesn’t think about him anymore as he means nothing to her now.

Although her mom is the main parental figure within her life, Maya’s relationship was a strained one but still a loving one. For years, she had gotten so use to the thought that her mom was too busy for her and that she actually didn’t care much for her because of how little effort her mom puts in some of the important moments within Maya’s life. If it was her birthday, she never expected for her mom to remember much less have a gift or even a cake ready for her. If she achieved something in school and was rewarded for it, chances are her mom wouldn’t have been there to see her daughter receive that reward. If it was parent day at school, think her mom would be there with all the other parents? Her mom was just way too busy for Maya, and she grew to accept that. But it wasn’t because her mom didn’t care or didn’t want to be a part of her daughters life— oh, her mom cared so deeply for Maya! It was just that the reason she’s always so busy was because her mom did wanted the best for her daughter in life and she was trying to work hard to help her daughter achieve it. Maya couldn’t understand this at first as to her, she had half a mom, but after realizing exactly how much she’s done for her, she did realize that her mom actually cared. Even if all Maya ever wanted was to know that she did have a parent who wanted and loved her. And lucky for her, her mom does.

There is one person who is a ray of sunshine within the dark clouds of Maya’s life, and that is her best friend, Riley Mathews. Best friends and neighbors since they were teeny-tiny ants, the two girls were as complete opposites as one can be, and yet they were as thick as thieves. Where Riley was all sunshines, butterflies, and rainbows, and was someone who has one of the most hopeful and positive out looks when it comes to life, Maya was cloudy days, bee stings, rainstorms, and was someone who isn’t as hopeful or positive with life and is living it just to get by. Riley was purple and Maya was green— they were two separate halves of a single coin, and yet there wasn’t a single person in this world who she wouldn’t call her best friend other than Riley. They grew up together and has been through so much with one another, all the fights, all the sad times, and definitely the fun moments too. And though there are many times where Maya could never grasp everything that happens inside that sparkly head of Riley’s, she also appreciates the kind of person her best friend was because without her, everything else would’ve been meaningless for Maya. Riley was the one person one she would do just about anything for, and was the one who she would fight anyone if they ever tried to hurt her. Riley wasn't only just her best friend, but she was her special person too. She was Maya’s and she wasn’t planning on letting go of her sunshine no time soon.

Speaking of her best friend, Riley’s family is the definition of a perfect family to Maya. The hardworking and loving lawyer of a mom, the goofy yet reliable teacher of a dad, the annoying but caring prodigy of a little brother— her best friend had it all. She had the family that Maya wished she could have, and because of that, she visited the Mathews household every chance she could get which was every single day. What can she say? It was one of the most loving households she’s ever been in, and though she wasn’t a Mathews herself, Maya liked to pretend she was whenever she visited. Luckily, because of all the years she’s known the family, her best friends parents had practically taken her in as one of their own and it’s safe to say that Maya was an honorary Mathews with how much she’s always around them.

She likes to come off as a “bad girl” around other people. She’s sarcastic, makes dark humor, tends to not care about things, has gotten into trouble way more times than she could count, and is generally a restless tiny human being. Maya practically has a reputation she needs to uphold, but despite that, Maya has a lot of heart to her and cares, especially for those who are very important to her.

Though she didn’t mind going to school, and was even told she was a smart girl whenever she put her mind to it, Maya didn’t end up going to college. Yep, that’s right! Once, high school had came to an end, she claimed that she was officially dropping out of school and wasn’t doing the whole college thing, and to this day has no plans of ever trying.

Due to having no actual dad in her life, the person who has been Maya’s step in father figure for so long was Riley’s own dad. And for as much as she appreciate and loves the man for all he has done for her, there was still a part of Maya who desired having a father figure of her own. One she didn’t have to share with her best friend. It’s like how she can also appreciate all Riley’s mom has done for her even when she does already have a mom of her own. Her own mom may not be the best mother in the world, but Maya is grateful for all the effort she’s put in and would never want to exchange her mom for anyone else, not even Riley’s. And the thing is, there is someone who she feels could fit the role of a father figure she can call her own, and who that person is? The best friend of her own best friend’s dad— Shawn Hunter. He was so much like Maya, it wasn’t difficult for her to relate to him when they first met, and it was much less harder for her to become attached to him right afterwards. But just because she wants Shawn as a father figure doesn’t mean it’ll happen or that things would be as easy and smooth sailing between them. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to try.

Has the habit of collecting things that she finds and ends up liking even if it may belong to other people. She especially likes things that brings her one step closer to feeling like she has a perfect family like Riley does, like owning a heart locket necklace that had a picture of a happy family inside of it. Maya had given it back to it’s original owners at the time, but if it didn’t belong to anyone one and she liked it, then it was her’s to keep.

Her vision is blurry but she refuses to wear glasses and doesn’t own contacts so it’s a good thing she’s short and barely trips over things.

The majority of her clothes she owns has been thrifted and repurposed to her liking. She tends to wear a lot of old band tees of bands she hasn’t even heard of or know about but just got because she liked the design of.

Maya is an artist through and through. She’s been doodling and painting all her life, and though she never thought of turning her hobby into an actual career, her middle school art teacher believed that she was talented enough to become an artist. Even her friends believed she has what it takes to become big, and while she may have her doubts about that ever happening at times, she has never let go of that passion and love for art. And though she didn't go to college nor majored in the arts, Maya makes sure not to let her artistic talents go to waste. In fact, she takes up many freelancing art gigs whenever she has the time, which the best of many worlds for her. She can still draw and paint for other people, work on her own time, and can get some cash on the side while she’s at it.

Still owns her half of the friendship rings Riley had gifted her on her fourteenth birthday. It’s one of Maya’s most treasured items that she owns, and she wouldn’t dare to ever lose it. In fact, she carries that ring with her every single day, be it by wearing it on her ring, having it on the chain of her necklace, or simply by carrying it inside her pocket. That ring is always with her no matter what.

Would tease the hell out of her friends and loved ones, but if there is one thing about Maya that anyone would know about her is how fiercely loyal she is. Once she sticks herself to someone, they’re stuck with her for life.

Is use to the disappointments of life and has came to the point of always expecting it until she starts to let herself to hope.

You Make My Hart Go "Bloylalaloo" (Rilaya Oneshot)

Hey, Fandom - Ren here! 🙂 I know this post is really, really late, but I promised a Rilaya fanfic for you guys to celebrate reaching my first 100 followers in the summer of 2016, so here it is! 🙂 I procrastinated on this so much, so thank you for your patience. Also, this is my first fanfic (despite having been a writer for 13 years, I’m a little rusty due to writer’s block/lack of inspiration), so forgive me if this sucks somewhat 😂

But anyway, I hope you enjoy! 🙂

Prompt: Riley and Maya are hanging out in Riley’s room, and Riley’s mere existence is making Maya feel all the feels (as usual), and it gets to the point where she quietly utters, “Bloylalaloo!” and Riley hears and says, “What?” but Maya tries to deny it. Riley won’t have any of that, though, and eventually pulls it out of her - at which point, Riley also shares her feelings for Maya, and BOOM! Rilaya happens.

(fun fact: another fanfic was written using this same prompt (submitted by me), which I would totally recommend for you guys to check out as well; it was written by KaiAnatoly2017 on Wattpad and is simply titled "Bloylalaloo")

Riley Matthews sat in her bay window with a wide smile on her face, relishing over the adorable dream she had last night. The bunny and the puppy had kissed (as they usually did), and she was bubbling over with so much elation that she thought she might explode if she didn’t rant to someone about it. Thankfully (as if the timing couldn’t be more perfect), a certain blonde someone decided to climb in through the bay window at that very moment. Maya Hart - Riley’s best friend; and, unbeknownst to the blonde beauty, the girl she had been in love with since the moment they met.

“Hey, Riles!” Maya greeted her with that same old warm smile, which she saved only for her best friend. The one that made Riley feel like they were the only ones in the universe. So much so, in fact, that she had to break herself away from staring endearingly into the blonde’s ocean blue eyes, long enough to ask Maya to repeat the sentence she’d failed to process.

“I’m sorry, what?” Riley asked, shaking herself out of her stupor.

Maya chuckled to herself, before asking again. “I said, what’s got you so happy this morning?”

“Oh, um….” Riley couldn’t hold back her slight giggle as she blushed and looked down at her lap, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Certainly more than one thing, she thought.

But she decided to ignore her feelings, when she remembered what that other thing was: the dream that she was just dying to tell her best friend about before she arrived. The one about the bunny and the puppy. Kissing.

“Well, I had the most adorable dream last night, Peaches!” She said, looking up at Maya with the most beaming smile you could ever imagine.

With this kind of expression coming from someone like Riley, Maya wasn’t the least bit surprised at this announcement; she had come to understand, in all the years she’d known her, that this was just who Riley was. And she loved her for that.

In fact, it was one of Maya’s favorite qualities about her.

“Oh, really? Care to tell me what it was about?” Maya asked, crossing one leg over the other and leaning toward Riley, her palm resting softly on the bay window cushions as she looked lovingly into her best friend’s eyes.

And with that - barely able to contain herself - Riley launched into her rant.

As Riley started talking a mile a minute, completely absorbed in the absolutely adorable scene she was describing, Maya took in the amazing sight in front of her: her best friend and love of her life, sitting in the bay window, bursting with joy and so excited to tell her about something wonderful that she had witnessed (even if it was only in the confines her own mind). The sight itself was enough for the artist to bubble over with feelings of her own.

So, with her gaze lovingly transfixed on the brunette, Maya softly breathed out the only word she could think of, to describe the…. well, indescribable feelings she had.

“Bloylalaloo!”

Riley’s words slowed to a halt as she squinted curiously at her, making Maya realize instantly what she had just done. Her eyes widened in panic as she leaned back a little, taking her palm off of its resting place in the bay window, and tried to think of a Plan B on the fly.

Okay Hart, breathe. Just play it off like you didn’t just single-handledly reveal you’re in love with her, and she’ll leave it alone, Maya thought.

….Hopefully.

“What was that?” Riley asked quizzically.

Hope is for suckers.

“Nothing!” Maya replied, probably a little too quickly. She turned back towards the bay window, ready to climb out and down the fire escape so she could run home, and avoid having to face Riley with her feelings... and the rejection she knew would inevitably come.

But, as it turned out... Riley had other plans.

She grabbed hold of the back of Maya’s culottes to halt the attempted escape - much in the same fashion as Maya had done to her, actually, on the latter’s fourteenth birthday.

"Maya, I'm not letting you leave this bay window until you admit what you said!"

Silence.

Riley's features softened before she spoke up again. "Peaches? Please... just tell me what you said!"

"No!" Maya let out, her voice strangled.

"I know what you said, Maya; and I know what it means!"

"Then why do I have to blurt it out and ruin everything?!" Maya demanded, finally turning back to face her best friend.

Slightly trembling, she braced herself for the next words to come out of Riley's mouth.

Smiling fondly at the blonde beauty, Riley simply replied, "Because it won't be ruined."

Maya's features turned from sadness to a cross between realization and surprise. Of all the things she'd expected to hear, this definitely wasn't one of them.

After all, hope was for suckers, right?

"What?" Maya said softly, throat closing as a high-pitched sound made its way past her lips.

Riley smiled softly, looking lovingly into the blue eyes of the one she loved the most, her extraordinary relationship. "You won't ruin everything, Maya."

There was a pause as Maya's vulnerable eyes searched Riley's assured ones.

"Because I feel the same way." Riley admitted, letting out a euphoric laugh.

At this, Maya let out the breath she didn't know she'd been holding. A relieved, breathy giggle escaped her lips. Still hesitant, though, she decided to ask the brunette a question, just to settle her worries.

"Ring power?"

Riley's smile grew even more assured. "Ring power."

"Why didn't you say anything, Riles?" Maya asked.

"Probably the same reason you didn't. I was scared of losing you. That you would feel differently about me."

"Hey, you could never lose me. And that's on ring power." The two girls giggled, feeling a weight lift from their shoulders, knowing they didn't have to hold in their feelings any longer.

Maya, once again, looked deeply into her chocolate brown eyes, and she asked her, "You wanna know how you make me feel?"

It was Riley's turn to have vulnerable eyes. "What?"

Maya smirked a little as she lifted the tips of her fingers to hold Riley's chin. Then, she slowly leaned in, closed her eyes and placed a soft, passionate kiss on her best friend’s lips.

Riley melted into the kiss, her hands going to the blonde beauty's waist and shoulder. They held the kiss for a few seconds before Maya pulled away, leaned her forehead on Riley's and whispered, "Bloylalaloo!"

At this, the two erupted into giggles, leaning in again after a moment as their lips moved more passionately against each other than before.

A few minutes later, Maya pulled away and said, "Hey, I guess your dream kinda came true, huh?"

Confused, Riley asked, "What?"

"The bunny and the puppy really did kiss!"

Riley's eyes widened with awe, and a moment later her legs started bouncing, her smile growing more and more exaggerated.

She was about ready to explode with happiness.

With a knowing eye-roll and a snort, Maya simply said, "Go ahead, let it out!"

"YYYYYYYYAAAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
