‘ōhi‘a lehua: Metrosideros polymorpha, can be a shrub or tree with red, pink, yellow, or white flowers; the flower of Hawai‘i Island

20–25 m (66–82 ft) tall in favorable situations, and a much smaller prostrate shrub when growing in boggy soils or directly on basalt. Many native Hawaiian traditions refer to the tree and the forests it forms as sacred to Pele, the volcano goddess, and to Laka, the goddess of hula. ʻŌhiʻa trees grow easily on lava, and are usually the first plants to grow on new lava flows.

The most common native tree in the Hawaiian Islands, tolerating a wide range of soil conditions, temperature, and rainfall. It grows from sea level right up to the tree line at elevations of 2,500 m (8,200 ft) and is commonly found in moist and dry forests, high shrublands, and is a colonizer of recent lava flows. It is relatively slow growing. Dominant in cloud forests above 400 m (1,300 ft), the tree is also common in seasonally wet forests, where it may be dominant or form mixtures with the native Acacia koa.

The trunk varies in form. In some trees, it is straight and smooth; in others, it is twisted and prominently fluted. Trees growing in forests often have stilt roots, having germinated on logs or the stems of fallen Cibotium tree ferns, which have long decayed away when the tree has reached maturity. Some trees have fibrous aerial roots to gather moisture. At high elevations, and in areas with poor soils or little rainfall, shrub forms are the norm. Flowers are usually bright to medium red but orange-red, salmon, pink, yellow, or orange forms are also found.

ʻŌhiʻa lehua is one of the few honey plants that is native to the Hawaiian Islands.

In Hawaiian mythology, ʻŌhiʻa and Lehua were two young lovers. The volcano goddess Pele fell in love with the handsome ʻŌhiʻa and approached him, but he turned down her advances. In a fit of jealousy, Pele transformed ʻŌhiʻa into a tree. Lehua was devastated by this transformation and out of pity the other gods turned her into a flower and placed her upon the ʻōhiʻa tree. Other versions say that Pele felt remorseful but was unable to reverse the change, so she turned Lehua into a flower herself. It is said that when a lehua flower is plucked from an ʻōhiʻa tree, the sky will fill with rain representing the separated lovers' tears. (Source.)

Since ʻōhiʻa are nearly in constant bloom, they attract numerous bees and other insects.

Early Hawaiians had many uses for ʻōhiʻa. The exceptionally hard wood was fashioned into kapa beaters, prepping boards for kapa, poi boards, musical instruments, dancing sticks, idols, spears, daggers, clubs, mallets, standards of kāhili, house construction, gunwales and interior framework for canoes.

From early Hawaii to the present day, flowers, seed capsules and new leaves have been used for lei working. Lei ʻōhiʻa, with or without other material, were given names such as lei lehua ʻula (red flowers), lei lehua ʻalani (orange flowers), lei lehua melemele (yellow flowers), and lei liko lehua, made with new leaves. ‘Ōhi‘a lehua is endemic to the six largest islands of Hawai’i and is the most common native Hawaiian tree, comprising 80% of Hawaii’s native forests. Leaves of this tree sustained populations of native birds, such as the apapane and the mamo, whose vibrant feathers were used in traditional Hawaiian clothing and ceremonial adornments. Play a key role in watershed protection and water conservation by retaining water following storm events and preventing subsequent erosion and flooding. (Source.)

October 1st 1982 the first Compact Disc (CD) is released! Happy 40th year anniversary!

When and what was the first CD that you bought? Mine was Van Halen - Van Halen 1, in the summer of 1988.

On October 1st, 1982 Billy Joel's album 52nd Street was the first CD album released.

In 1976 Phillips and Sony developed the compact disc (CD), an optical disc used to store and playback digital data.

It was originally developed to store and playback sound recordings exclusively. CDs can hold up to 700 megabytes. This equates to up to 80 minutes of uncompressed audio. By 2007 200 billion CDs were sold worldwide.

"Philips publicly demonstrated a prototype of an optical digital audio disc at a press conference called "Philips Introduce Compact Disc" in Eindhoven, The Netherlands on March 8th, 1979.

Three years earlier, Sony first publicly demonstrated an optical digital audio disc in September 1976.

In September 1978, they demonstrated an optical digital audio disc with a 150 minute playing time, and with specifications of 44,056 Hz sampling rate, 16-bit linear resolution, cross-interleaved error correction code, that were similar to those of the Compact Disc introduced in 1982.

Technical details of Sony's digital audio disc were presented during the 62nd AES Convention, held on March 13-16, 1979 in Brussels.

"The first test CD was pressed in Hannover, Germany by the Polydor Pressing Operations plant in 1981.

The disc contained a recording of Richard Strauss's Eine Alpensinfonie, played by the Berlin Philharmonic and conducted by Herbert von Karajan.

The first public demonstration was on the BBC TV show Tomorrow's World when The Bee Gees' 1981 album Living Eyes was played.

In August 1982 the real pressing was ready to begin in the new factory, not far from the place where Emil BerlinerOffsite Link had produced his first gramophone record 93 years earlier.

By now, Deutsche Grammophon, Berliner's company and the publisher of the Strauss recording, had become a part of PolyGram.

The first CD to be manufactured at the new factory was The Visitors by ABBAOffsite Link.

The first album to be released on CD was Billy Joel's 52nd Street, that reached the market alongside Sony's CD player CDP-101 on October 1, 1982 in Japan.

Early the following year on March 2, 1983 CD players and discs (16 titles from CBS Records) were released in the United States and other markets.

This event is often seen as the "Big Bang" of the digital audio revolution. The new audio disc was enthusiastically received, especially in the early-adopting classical music and audiophile communities and its handling quality received particular praise.

As the price of players sank rapidly, the CD began to gain popularity in the larger popular and rock music markets.

The first artist to sell a million copies on CD was Dire Straits, with its 1985 album Brothers in Arms.

The first major artist to have his entire catalogue converted to CD was David Bowie, whose 15 studio albums were made available by RCA Records in February 1985, along with four Greatest Hits albums.

In 1988, 400 million CDs were manufactured by 50 pressing plants around the world. To date, the biggest selling CD (as opposed to the biggest selling title) is Beatles "1", released in November 2000, with worldwide sales of 30 million discs" (Wikipedia article on Compact Disc, assessed 01-17-2010).

Everything you need to know about the 2022 Scripps Spelling Bee

Spelling time!

The 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee began on Tuesday, with over 200 spellers gathering in Washington D.C to compete for glory. The opening round thinned the group to 162, and there was plenty of drama.

This year marked the first time in three years the bee returned in earnest due to the pandemic, and with a leaner field designed to mitigate risks, the words were absolutely brutal. Typically the opening rounds pitch a few softballs, but not in 2022 with spellers getting eliminated on words like “piloncillo,” “outré” and “tsukupin.”

Here’s what you need to know if you’re picking up on the bee starting now.

Where is the spelling bee up to?

We have reached the semi finals, which will take place at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. The event began with 234 spellers on Tuesday, with the majority eliminated in the opening two rounds.

Wednesday started with the quarter finals, wrapping up early this afternoon. This set the stage for where we’re at now. One of the remaining 42 spellers will take home the prize.

What is the prize this year?

The champion will win $50,000 from Scripps, $2,500 from Merriam-Webster as well as a reference library. In addition Encyclopedia Britannica is giving the champion a $400 set of books.

However, even if you’re not the grand champion, there’s plenty to spell for. Everyone who makes the final on Thursday night will earn at least $2,000 with the runner-up winning $25,000.

What are some of the most difficult words given so far?

Of course this is subjective, but here are some examples of the words from the quarter finals that even seasoned spellers struggled with the most.

euryhaline — The ability for an aquatic organism to tolerate salinity.

tyroglyphid — A tick or mite from the Tyroglyphidae family.

langlaufer — One who takes part in cross country skiing.

argillaceous — Rocks or sediment containing clay.

In short: These kids are way smarter than most of us when it comes to words.

How do I watch?

Unlike past years, the bee is not being aired on ESPN. Instead the event will be airing on ION, with the following times. It also airs via live stream at SpellingBee.com.

Semi-finals: Wednesday, June 1 — 8 p.m. ET

Grand finals: Thursday, June 2 — 8 p.m. ET

Ice Skating

Summary: You and your boyfriend go ice skating but George forgets to tell you one major issue: he doesn’t know how to ice skate

“George, are you ready?” You look up from tying on your skates to see your boyfriend struggling to put his pair on. Although it seemed like your boyfriend needed help, he didn't ask for any. He just nodded at you- well more like at his skates and through gritted teeth, he replied back, “Yup perfectly fine, babe.” You roll your eyes.

After you finally put on your skates, you make your way to George only to see him still struggling to put on his pair of skates. Although you had a feeling that he knew that you were right there, he continued to struggle instead of giving up and asking for your help. About five minutes passed and George finally gives up with a groan and turns to you with a pout.

“Can you help me please? I’m struggling to put these stupid things on.” As you bend down to help, you reply back with a teasing smile. “You could’ve just asked me five minutes earlier, you know?”

George rolls his eyes at you as his lips stay in the form of a pout. He watched as you managed to quickly help him and after tying a knot, you held out a hand for him to stand up. At first when George placed a hand on the bench and pushed himself off, he was reminded of the thin blades that were trying to support him and started to wobble.

Immediately you held out your other hand and George latched on quickly. His grip on your hands were tight as you led him to the entrance on the skating rink and right when you were about to let go of him, George held your hands tighter, preventing you from latching off of him and letting go of his hands. You raise an eyebrow at him but then it struck you.

“You never went ice skating before, didn’t you?” It wasn’t really a question that needed to be answered as George’s face immediately turned red. You laugh a little as George rolls his eyes. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you won’t fall.”

You give George a smile and he couldn’t help but give a thankful smile back as the both of you two finally get in the rink. Immediately George began wobbling back and forth once again when he stepped foot on the slippery surface but you were able to get a hold of him just in time. You help him walk a few feet away from the entrance so other people could enter and so George could get used to his skates and you managed to not have him fall.

“Uh hey y/n?” You look at your boyfriend, "Yeah?" Your boyfriend looked nervous for some reason.

“Could we maybe.. hold hands?” You felt your face warm up a little but paid no attention to it. Noticing your silence, George quickly continued.

“So I don’t fall of course, n-no other reason..” Scratching his neck, George avoids your gaze and you couldn’t help but giggle quietly. You don’t bring up his red face as you roll your eyes playfully and hold out a hand for your boyfriend to grab.

“Of course, do you think I'll leave my poor, stumbling boyfriend to fall on his butt every second?”

Gabriel Agreste: Interesting Villain, Horrible Character (400 Follower Special)

I'm honestly surprised more people didn't want me to talk about Gabriel, especially with how often I rag on how horrible of a person he is. But, three character analysis posts later, and we're going to talk about why the main villain of Miraculous Ladybug is a real letdown.

Gabriel Needs to give the Whining a Rest

The interesting thing is one of the few things I actually liked in Season 3 was Hawkmoth. His plans actually made sense (for the most part), and by playing the long game, he managed to turn Chloe against Ladybug and deprived her of several key allies. Granted, Season 4 immediately undid the latter, but I was still impressed by his strategy.

Generally, one of the better aspects of Gabriel as a character was just how over the top he was as Hawkmoth. Keith Silverstein is clearly giving it his all with his performance, and he is just so enjoyable to watch as a cartoonish supervillain.

And therein lies the first major problem with Gabriel as a character. While he is fun to watch as a simple supervillain, the show tries to give him more depth and unintentionally makes him worse.

In Season 2, when it was revealed that Gabriel was Hawkmoth, many fans speculated on what he needed the Miraculous for, until the Queen Bee Trilogy showed it was to save his possibly dead wife, Emilie. The idea of that is so the show can give more depth to its main villain, and I think it's an interesting idea in concept. After all, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

The problem is just how radically different Gabriel is normally compared to how he is as Hawkmoth. He always goes on about how he's “doing this for Emilie”, but it's hard to really sympathize with him when you consider he constantly gives evil monologues and evil laughs, really getting into the supervillain role. And let's not forget all of the “I'm going to wear Ladybug's skin as a suit” faces he loves to make.

Clearly this man is the picture of mental stability.

Gabriel's motivation for being Hawkmoth when compared to what he actually does as Hawkmoth is shady enough, but the thing is that the writers clearly want the audience to at least feel a little bad for him. They want to make the audience sympathize with him despite the way he acts with or without the mask. Without Miraculous Ladybug, he is routinely putting innocent lives in danger and never once shows regret for his actions. All he talks about is how “he's doing this for Emilie”, or that “he'll get their Miraculous soon”. There's no real reason to feel bad for him other than “because the script says so”.

Let's compare Gabriel to Malcolm Merlyn from Arrow. His big plan in the first season of the show is to create a machine that will cause an earthquake to destroy a crime-infested portion of Starling City, claiming to be trying to help everyone, but it's clear he is only doing it out of revenge for his wife getting killed by a criminal from that part of the city. In addition, throughout that season and future seasons, he always makes sure his plans lead to him benefiting in some way, showing he isn't just some noble man trying to achieve his goals with a less than noble method.

If we got some moments that showed that what Gabriel was doing was selfish, it would make him a more complex villain. But we don't get anything like that. What do we get instead? Well...

I Could Really Care Less About Emilie Agreste

We have known Gabriel's motivation has been to save his wife for a little over two years at this point, but at the same time, it's hard to believe that motivation because of how underdeveloped Emilie is as a character.

There have been a total of two lines in the entirety of the show that explain what happened to Emilie, and they're both vague as hell. One of them was from “Feast” that implied Emilie used the broken Peacock Miraculous.

Adrien: My mom used to have dizzy spells… just like Nathalie.

And the other that outright tells the audience what's happening to her in a clip show that most people will skip.

Nathalie: As I've watched Emilie falling deeper into an endless sleep, my sadness for her has deepened, too

That is literally all we get for an explanation, and nothing else. We have no idea of what she's like as a person or what her relationship with her family was like other than Gabriel and Adrien saying they miss her. Other than the way the narrative says she's important to Gabriel and Adrien, we don't really have a reason to care about her as a character. There have also been some lines that imply she went along with Gabriel's questionable parenting techniques, like how he was apparently only homeschooled as a kid (Origins) and never had a birthday party growing up (The Bubbler), so how do we even know if she's a good person? In fact, why not set up this question as a mystery to make the audience wonder if Gabriel has another reason to bring Emilie back?

It ultimately turns Emilie into a plot device and not a character that Gabriel and Adrien only bring up to make the audience feel bad for them, and meant to justify Gabriel's actions by saying that he's “doing this for his family”.

But hey, if he's doing this all for his family, surely Gabriel's redeeming traits come from his relationship with Adrien, right? Right?

As a Parent, Gabriel is Far From the Best

I've talked about this briefly before, but parenting in Miraculous Ladybug is written in such a black and white way, even by the standards of this show. Parents are portrayed in one of two ways. They're either amazing people who love and support their children unconditionally, or they're awful people who treat their own children like trash. And much like a lot of things in this show, there are times where the latter is treated like the former.

There are so many times where the narrative insists on making you see Gabriel as a troubled, but wellmeaning person who tries his best to be a good parent to Adrien, but it is far from the truth.

I'm not going to beat around the bush. Gabriel is a terrible parent. Like, he is awful at being a parent in so many ways, even before you find out he's Hawkmoth. In his first appearance, “The Bubbler”, he delegates getting Adrien a birthday present to Nathalie, his assistant. He literally can't be bothered to take time out of his schedule to get his own son a present for his birthday. And as the show goes on, he becomes more controlling and forbids Adrien from going out with his friends in other episodes (Captain Hardrock, Silencer). While this could be used to show Gabriel getting worse, it's never acknowledged in-universe, with Adrien continually defending his father essentially keeping him on house arrest.

“But IOTA!” You might say. “Gabriel has made efforts to bond with his son in some episodes.” While that might be true, most of those come right after his Akumas have almost gotten Adrien killed. He only hugged Adrien and made an attempt to learn more about him after Simon Says invaded their home, he only decided to watch that movie Emilie was in with Adrien after Gorizilla nearly dropped him off a building, and he only hugged Adrien again in public after he was turned into a gold statue by Style Queen.

In fact, let's talk about how Gabriel acts in the Queen Bee Trilogy. He actually decides to quit being Hawkmoth, but it's not because he realizes all the damage he's caused. Instead, he gave up because his “magnum opus”, a stronger than usual Akuma that only got the advantage on Ladybug ironically because of dumb luck, failed. Sure, he says he can't keep putting his son in danger, but he rarely ever acknowledges that he does so in the first place. When Riposte wanted to fight Adrien, Hawkmoth did nothing to stop her other than giving her a stern warning earlier on and nothing else. Where was this attitude earlier?

Hell, even then, he immediately goes back to being Hawkmoth as soon as he sees an opportunity, not even a day after his “mAgNuM oPuS” blew up in his face (because I guess Scarletmoth was just Plan B). If he made such a big deal about caring for his son, why didn't he try harder to spend time with him? Has he ever had doubts about what he's doing before? If Chloe didn't show up as Queen Bee, was he going to follow through on his promise and try to be a better father to Adrien instead of trying to get Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous?

And yeah, the whole irony is that Gabriel is doing this for his family when he is unknowingly fighting his own son, which could lead to some interesting drama if done right. The idea of how Gabriel would react to his son being Cat Noir could really lead to some internal struggles for him to go through. But then we got “Cat Blanc”, which shows just how terrible of a character Gabriel is.

In an alternate timeline where he found out his son was Cat Noir, what does Gabriel do? Does he try to steal Adrien's Miraculous while he's sleeping? Does he reconsider his actions or realize he was endangering Adrien's life?

NOPE! He just decides to akumatize him all while emotionally tormenting him, before causing the end of the world.

This is honestly one of the most appalling things I've ever seen in any TV show, because it's basically an abusive father ordering his son to listen to him all while referencing his (kind of) dead mother to back up his point. And rather than use this to show how despicable Gabriel is, the episode decides to blame Marinette for this happening. Yes, according to the show, her present to Adrien caused several events to happen which caused Cat Blanc, but this logic makes no sense. It's like blaming the JFK assassination on the man who sold a gun to Lee Harvey Oswald, instead of, you know, Lee Harvey Oswald.

Not only was this episode yet another excuse to blame Marinette for something that wasn't her fault, it leads into the biggest problem I have with Gabriel as a character.

Sympathize with Gabriel? Surely, You Jest

After everything I've gone over regarding Gabriel as a character, after all the awful things I've talked about, are you really surprised that I don't feel bad for him at all?

Gabriel is just an awful character and a despicable human being, but the show just keeps wanting me to feel bad for him. It's just so hard to when you consider everything he's done has made him anything but sympathetic. I'm just saying, it's kind of hard to feel bad for someone who tries to start World War III with the only justification being “i'M dOiNg It FoR mY fAmIlY”, especially when he treats his family like crap.

The writers go out of their way to show how horrible Gabriel is as Hawkmoth/Shadowmoth, but they think because they throw in a few moments where he looks conflicted, we'll immediately feel bad for him. What makes so many people interested in seeing Chloe become a better person is that they can tell she's the victim of a troubled upbringing, and know that because she's only a teenager, she still has room to grow as a person, represented by having more honest moments of vulnerability. Gabriel is a grown man who once caused the apocalypse because of how terrible of a parent he is, and has even fewer sympathetic moments than Chloe does. Which one of these two is supposedly irredeemable? The answer may surprise you.

But the frustrating thing is that this kind of villain could have worked. Instead of making him this mustache-twirling psychopath, show how much Gabriel regrets what he has to do, but keeps pushing onward despite all the lives he's risking if it means that he can save his wife. Instead of making Gabriel like Lex Luthor, make him like Mr. Freeze, who is basic a better written version of him.

But as it stands, there's a good reason why Gabriel gets little to no respect as a character in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom, as a villain, or as a father.

“Where am I?”

Your wrists still ache, burning and sore from where the cuffs had dug into your skin. The coarse stone wall behind you scratches at your shoulders the harder you push away, desperate to separate yourself from the man in front of you. He flooded your being, drowning you in a storm of fire and brimstone with every step he took towards you. The sound of his boots rumbled in your ears, followed by the roar of blood rushing to your face, glowing white-hot under your skin.

He was broad, filling out his armor with broad shoulders and soft muscle. You felt dwarfed in comparison, drawing your arms closer and shielding your face in fear of his touch.

The green painted on his helmet glinted in the sun, his head turning to watch you, his body seeping with warmth as he came to stand in front of you.

“Don't worry, little one.”

His voice was kind, softer than you remember, but still carrying the weight of a warrior, his words rasping through the modulator of his helmet.

His hand reached forward and you winced away, your head spinning with the delicious smell of him. Something sweet and tangy, like honey and pine that laid thick on your chest in the most heavenly ways.

He paused for a moment, his hand tentative and his words sweet as they dripped from his lips.

“No one will hurt you.”

The leather of his gloves set fire to your skin, barely brushing over your neck as he traced the collar you wore. He stopped at the latch wrapped around the back of your neck, his fingers twisting until he unlocked it. It fell into his other hand, your eyes training on it while your fingers traced the tender skin it had left behind. He tossed it aside without a second thought, the metal clanging against the dark floor loudly as it lay pathetically at your feet.

You looked up again, your eyes watery and a plea stuck on your trembling lip. But you were silenced, any bargain you had prepared forgotten with the touch of his hand. He traced his fingers over the apple of your cheek, over the cut that sat prominently across the swell of your face.

“You have my word.”

OVERALL COMPANY

The whole company has been booked for a photo shoot for an inside spread in Singles Magazine’s September issue to accompany a feature where creative director Choi Dongwook will discuss the company’s rise and creative vision. All of the company’s idols will be in and out of the set that day and will be taking pictures intermingled between groups. (Admin note: there are no assigned groupings for photos OOC, but the shoot director and photographer would make the groupings in-’verse). Due to delays in the finishing touches being put on the Base Culture Complex, BC, Dimensions, and Gold Star have also banded together to get some mediaplay opportunities and good media karma in the name of base by hosting a community service event each month together. Idols are encouraged to participate for good press, but they are not required to.

July 19: Volunteering opportunity at an animal shelter with BC & Gold Star idols.

July 29: Singles Magazine September issue company photo shoot [2].

August 30: Volunteering opportunity at an orphanage with BC & Gold Star idols.

GAL.ACTIC

Gal.actic turns ten this quarter, and for it, they’ll be holding two fanmeetings, one each in Seoul and Tokyo. The fanmeetings will be relaxed, with the itinerary consisting mostly of games and answering fan questions interlaced between performances of five of their past title tracks voted on by the fans to be performed beforehand (”Supa Dupa Diva”, “Would You Stay For Tea?”, “Sticky Sticky”, “A”, and “Someone Like U”). They’ll also be performing at festivals this quarter and, in August, they’ll begin to prepare for their next comeback, which is a little different than what they’ve done so far. They’ll record the single in the latter half of August and focus on choreography.

ALIEN

July is full of preparations, both for their upcoming comeback and their upcoming Japanese tour. They make their comeback in mid-August and while the songs weren’t chosen with the intention to appeal to the general public, they garner attention from more non-fans than usual and Alien finds themselves charting higher than they have since before their lawsuit. The interest they manage to gain from outside of their fandom causes some internal plan changes in Dimensions’ plans for them, but for Alien, it’s business as usual with music show promotions, fan signs, and a couple of festivals before they head out to Japan at the end of the quarter to begin their dome tour.

July 10: New Kids: Begin photo book shoot.

July 14: Alien Japan Dome Tour fittings.

MARS

MARS gets the beginning of July off before they go into the studio in the later half of the month to record for their next comeback mini-album already. As usual, this means that the following month, August, is reserved for intensive choreography practice and fittings in the tail end so that they can finish preparing for their comeback in September. In September, they’ll finish off preparing the album and film the music video and teasers before they come back at the very end of the month. They come back too late in the quarter to see long-term of results for the comeback, but it seems “Twilight” will have a similar performance to their last comeback.

August 22: “Twilight” comeback fittings.

September 2: Raise Us photo book shoot.

September 15: “Twilight” M/V and concept teaser filming.

7ROPHY

Almost as soon as “Uh Oh” promotions end, the members of 7ROPHY fly out to New York from July 4 to July 7, in part to film a special performance video. The performance video isn’t the only reason the members are in town though, as they’ll be dropping by Republic Records in the city, who Dimensions has recently partnered with to sign 7ROPHY on with for further US promotions. The deal will be announced to the press in the back half of July. As soon as they get back to Seoul, they’ll go into the studio to record their next comeback. It’s another fast turnaround, but the last comeback planned for them for the year and a second attempt at a summer hit. They’ll be getting the choreography down in July as well, so that they’re prepared for filming the MV and making their comeback in August. UNITY

Unity is slated to come back twice in the second half of the year, first with a single and then an album that serves as a part two to the one they already released this year. They’ll record the new songs on the album (line distribution) in July, and then prepare for their single release with choreography and fittings in August while the members of the CHAMPION subunit also focus on preparing for their comeback promotions. In September, they’ll film the single MV and shoot the teaser photos to prepare to make their comeback with it early in quarter four.

↳ CHAMPION

The third quarter houses the bulk of their comeback promotions. After recording the single last quarter in June, they do fittings and the teaser photo shoot in July in between learning and rehearsing the single’s choreography. In August, they keep practicing their performance and film the MV, and then finally make their comeback in September, promoting through the rest of the month to the very beginning of October. Mid-month, they win their first award as a sub-unit, the Seoul Mayor Award.

September 2: “100″ M/V reaction filming.

LUCID

On the heels of the success of “Love Whisper”, Lucid finishes recording the added songs for their repackage in July shortly after their comeback promotions finish. Another appearance on Immortal Songs 2 precedes that and they’ve made themselves at home after a few appearances on the show now. They don’t win, but it’s more exposure, and that’s what counts. Fittings and photo book shoots from the repackage album occur in August, the same month they’re going over the choreography for the first time with the relentless hours Dimensions requires of them to keep up their reputation for clean choreography execution. The music video is filmed two weeks before they make their comeback, and while it does well, it doesn’t quite get the attention “Love Whisper” did, becoming the first of their normal realm releases not to peak in the top ten of Gaon since their debut.
