this generation of kids is so fucked and it’s so depressing to watch in real time. the amount of parents that are like “my preschooler got covid/rsv/had to be hospitalized but it’s ok because kids get sick all the time” is so……in 20 years or so when these kids are in early adulthood we’re going to have an increase in autoimmune diseases and chronic respiratory illnesses along with heart conditions and strokes due to repeated covid infections and researchers are going to be scratching their heads on the cause and ignoring that we let kids go back to schools mid-pandemic with no disease mitigation and then ignored a second respiratory disease resurgence

I understand why fit viewers are upset that what fit meant as a joke is being taken seriously, but like Tubbo didn’t know that. This is miscommunication the musical!!!! What the hell is Tubbo supposed to think when fit pulls foolish aside and asks if he really wants to work with tubbo? Like that seems really serious and genuine, especially bc he had to evesdrop to hear it! Like it’s really not that deep but to qtubbo it is.

I genuinely don’t think anyone is wanting fit dead or upset with him as a character (aside from not reaching out but that’s on qtubbo too), we just take things how qtubbo takes them and qtubbo overhearing someone asking if they actually want to be his friend while he’s already insecure is hurtful.

Not everything is negative about another character, we can be angsty and say how much we wish fit would reach out and be upset over what he’s saying while still liking him and understanding that the comment was meant to be jokier then how people took it. People view characters how the characters view characters, qtubbo was hurt so we’re hurt. Fit was joking so the huevos don’t see a problem. We all gotta understand that we come from different understandings and that’s okay!!!

sukuna begging yuuji to take him back because he wants to feel his emotions again instead of his own emptiness and nothing but the closeness they once had is enough for him. and when yuuji does, because he feels incomplete as well without sukuna, he spawns into the domain again and walks around the familiar place, hesitantly calling out sukuna’s name to confirm he’s really there. “sukuna…?”

he decides to secretly give the app a go to “know his enemy” but ends up making a friend, and starts to catch feelings for him...and maybe realises the guy he hates isn't actually so bad either...

I loved this so much! great MC with a funny internal monologue

despite the title most issues or misunderstanding are sorted out pretty quickly rather than drawn out for the drama and plot. which is refreshing

I was a little nervous about the concept of ‘ace hates the school dance and wants it shut down’ - there's a bit of a stereotype of aspecs being boring Fun Haters - but I think it did a really good job of showing the specifics of why, not dragging it out, and also that he’s just a snarky fun hater in general with not much weight behind it.

There’s also no discovering of sexuality or big coming out (just one-on-one) - he already knows he’s ace, and it comes up naturally a bunch, talking about how dances etc can feel isolating, the way the friendship app called buddy being called ace-friendly can feel infantilizing, avoiding dating because of the stress of having to check upfront if people about it, etc.

I would have liked to know more about his relationship with his mum? Though I understand that it’s clearly something he avoids thinking about - going too deep into his relationship with his parents might have changed the tone a lot. but still.

#wren martin ruins it all #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #asexual books #ngl as soon as i was like oh this boy is elliot schafer coded i was a lost cause #(re aro character - I have noticed a bit of a trend of “maybe aromantic but I don’t like labels” in YA #contemporary recently that I don’t love - but it’s not an inherent issue with this book) #I’ve read a lot of YA contemporary books where the portrayal of social media and made up apps doesn’t feel right; but this one did to me! #maybe it’s because it’s from the POV of someone’s who’s cynical about it. #(and types no punctuation no capitalisation…I could see my online-communication style reflected back at me…) #Even the confrontation at the end where feelings are confessed isn’t made into some big dramatic thing in front of everyone with no #communication. But it also doesn’t feel emotionally anticlimactic. #(maybe a couple of the reveals in the confession felt unnecessarily dramatic to me? like the story would have functioned without them. ) #but it's common for comtemporary ya to overdramatise silly things for the plot and im glad this didn't #possibly this is just my adult opinion about teen narratives. #The adult characters (even though they’re mostly background) feel like real people. #and it has some good friendships. also he has chickens and they are very good #it did become increasingly obvious that it was the same ppl but also they’re emotionally stupid. and like….it's part of the genre. #we all know this going in.

So I finally watched the 2D clone wars show, and I gotta say, it’s PHENOMENAL!!!

I now adore every second of it, in all of its sassy, oversimplified, primitively scripted, 2D glory!!!

I LOVE how Kenobi spends practically the whole time 100% done with everything, Anakin really is a disaster at heart, half the time the animators zoom in on something, just to start at a picture of a droids face while it talks - with zero motion whatsoever, Windu’s rocket punches, Yoda’s dramatic expressions, PADME and the marriage drama, the bazooka ARC (that guy had tired Rex energy, I LOVED it), a very different perspective of the moments right before Kenobi and Skywalker enter the battle of Coruscant, and it clearly was so inspirational for so many other SW shows!!! Not to mention how it flushes out so many things I’ve always wondered about!

And this is where the tradition of warning Anakin of his fate begins! And he still doesn’t get it! AND he’s 100% dramatic ALL THE TIME!!!

It’s amazing!!!

But it does bother me how many of the clones are truly treated as disposable! It’s like the only ones that make it out of the conflicts are the Jedi and the Sith! They just got mowed down left, right, and center!!! It was so cruel to them!!! And they mostly avoided giving ANY of them names!!! Cody was in it, and 1 other named guy but I couldn’t figure out what his name was. The Commander in red who led the ARCs! They were the only clones that (mostly) survived!!! It was so sad to watch them all just get disposed of so quickly and easily! They didn’t have to do that!!!

#it got worse after they actually let us see that one clone trooper’s chin! #that was the only glimpse that there are humans under there #the armor was impressive and surpassingly accurate for a simplified drawing #but why did they treat them like they were expendable??? #the Jedi know better than that! #is this why they started the Clone Wars 2008 with Yoda talking about their individuality and Plo telling them they’re not expendable to him #was it because of this show??? #WE NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS DAVE!!! m #AND WHERE WAS REX!!! #the beloved captain was NOT IN IT!!! #Cody got about 5 seconds of screen time which fit his character perfectly!!! #BUT WHERE WAS REX AND HIS BLUE JAIG EYES!!! #and I gotta say the red commander who earned his red jaig eyes was pretty entertaining and dramatic #but ITS NOT THE SAME!!! #where was my hero #the clone wars #clone wars #and all the precursor stuff!!! #Techo Union experimenting on sentient beings without their consent #the bad batch #Ventress! #ilum #bariss and luminara #the mon calamari arc! #shakti #Kenobi determination to stick his face out the door and see everything directly #the way Kenobi practically volunteered Anakin to retrieve the warriors the second he realized his hand was the key #everyone being so suspicious of Palpatine but no one doing anything but protecting him the whole damn time #Anakin shedding his cape in the most dramatic way possible #and diving headlong into danger no second thought at all

so what im getting is that it was absolutely unnecessary to isolate raffi on gotham city in order for her story to go on.

a story that’s so halfhearted that five episodes in—halfway to the end. btw—her motivation is yet to be explained (why go back to this sector of intelligence work when teaching seemed to be fulfilling? was she made to do this?? did she volunteer because her son now lives on this planet now apparently?? was losing elnor cris and possibly seven so painful that burying herself in work seemed like a better option??? who knows! not me!!) and it’s definitely a retreat character-wise but the fact that they still haven’t laid the groundwork to make this stick is kind of amazing lol. it’s the way they’re not even pretending to give a fuck about her or any of the other women characters for me—they said you’re a womb or a subordinate ladies pick one and shut the hell up LMAO?

the fact that the ‘real plot’ is happening on that other ship while everything raffi does is basically an afterthought with backstory slipped in between the cracks like aged caulk is so disheartening and pathetic. star trek picard make an effort maybe. she’s a polarizing character that’s been stuck in impossible situations, weighed down with retractions and stereotypes (they thread the line but HM) because the narrative continually refuses to meaningfully engage with her and a lot of fans of the show wont examine their own biases to see why they have such a viscerally negative reaction to a complicated black woman character that’s good at what she does, knows it and refuses to kneel at the foot of their hero’s :)

and if it wasn’t for ms hurd elevating this performance with sheer will, massive talent and the whip of that (sexy) ponytail? shit would be so much worse. but it’s still bad! because instead of giving her a nuanced, thoughtful send off she’s once again being made to suffer for the nth time. because why? oh right so wise man worf can guide her to the light lol give me a fuckin break.

and it’s no accident that if you cut raffi out (which they literally did in ep4 miss musiker you WILL be avenged) the story could more or less proceed as usual. that’s by design.

because legacy characters or not, im simply not buying that the main white cast members (plus two interlopers idgaf about those new guys and they’re doing nothing to make me care either. pick a random channel and their stories are being told right now live and in color like don’t piss me off) just so happen to be on the ship with the lead yet the sole woc is sent away on some underbaked adventure because ‘reasons?’ please. this season literally could not be more transparent about the audience they’re catering to and who/whose stories are of importance and consideration.

and i knew this would probably happen once the premise for s3 was revealed but i still can’t get over how obvious it is that there really was no plan for raffi and that she only happened to bypass the cull of the la sirena crew because she was romantically linked with seven at the time. which is baffling considering how things are (not) going between them (#theyareMARRIEDletthemTALKandKISSandREST)

and it’s not just them like everything about this season is quite literally happening just because. every slightly interesting or fresh development (and character it’s true) from the previous seasons has been dismissed or diminished and for what? secret sons and man pain? ew lmao. no suspense no lingering threads just excessive shots of ships, an aggressive insistence on biological families and rampant, shameless references to past glory. a mess.
