For To All The Better Places

(I’m not sure you specified how many actual kids are in Jamie’s class. I know “twenty some” for sure.)

You responded to one of my chapter comments (about how much I adore the students) by saying you have pages and pages of notes on the kids. And are sure most of it won’t ever make it into the fic.

Please feel free to brag or lament or gush over any and all of the kids to your hearts content here! Doesn’t have to be something that will ever make it into the story. Perhaps especially if it isn’t gonna be in the story.

Jamie has 24 kids in his class and I am very happy to say that every single one of them have names and basic descriptions! Most of them aren't very in depth but they've all got a basic blurb that has a couple of their likes and dislikes, a couple key personality traits, and notes on their home life if it's relevant.

A lot of them are just filler characters who don't serve a lot of purpose except to fill the room, but in Act II of To All The Better Places I have an entire subplot planned for these kids, I've mapped out their interpersonal drama, I have diagrams, it's a whole thing. Particularly Shiloh, who a couple people have already guessed will be important. I have three pages of backstory on her alone.

The thing about Shiloh is that she is in essence, Jamie before the fork in the road between kindness and cruelty. She is quite literally Jamie's mini-me, she acts exactly like him. She's overly confident and rude and doesn't have a ton of respect for the authority, which does include Jamie a lot of the time despite the fact we mostly see them getting along, but is also smart and kind and compassionate, absolutely filled to the brim with ambition and talent. She picks fights on the playground and disrupts lessons a lot and has an ongoing feud with several different teachers and students that usually ends up being Jamie's problem; She is also fiercely protective of her friends, she taught herself BSL so that she could speak to Toby when he doesn't have his hearing aids in, she helps Jamie set up for class every single morning, Kareem had to cap how many library books she was allowed to check out at once because she tried to borrow 18 at once and spent her entire recess arguing with him about it because she was absolutely positive she'd be able to get through all of them in two weeks.

She exists to parallel Jamie, she's a bratty but talented problem child who has a rough home life and is acting out because of it. Particularly, she exists to show Ted who has whatever the opposite of rose tinted glasses are on about Jamie, that things could have been different. She exists as physical proof that someone like Jamie could have been reasoned with and handled with kindness, if he'd only actually approached Jamie with curiosity instead of judgement, because for as much as Ted can believe that Jamie's behaviour was insular and judge him for it, it is near impossible for him to do the same thing to a nine year old girl that is clearly going through something. Especially because Jamie? He isn't going to let Ted judge Shiloh the same way he judged him.

Shiloh, Ted learns, is Jamie Tartt in miniature. Right down to the position she plays. “I’ll be striker,” she tells her half of the team. She’s not the captain, that honour going to Miss Imara, but she commandeers everyone's attention uncaring of that little fact, her hair pulled out of her face by two neat braids with red and blue ribbons braided through “ ‘cause I’m the best at that.” “I wanted to be striker,” Jonah says, looking a little hurt. Shiloh rolls her eyes at him, patting him on the shoulder consolingly. Ted’s not sure how a nine year old girl manages to come across as condescending, but she certainly finds a way. “You can still get goals even if you aren’t a striker” she says “you’re really fast, so you’d be a better winger like when we play at the park, so if we wanna win we gotta think about that.” “Isn’t this supposed to be just for fun?” Toby asks, head tilted to the side curiously. “winning is fun.” Shiloh says, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.

I have a scene, like the one above but hopefully a little more fleshed out, planned for later on in the story to really make Ted think about the parallels between Shiloh and Jamie. He already thinks they act very similar, but it's the final nail in the coffin seeing her play and seeing nothing but Jamie. Which, since you've been reading the story and already know, Ted has a bit of a problem with confirmation bias in this fic.

This answer kind of turned into the Shiloh show but what can I say I love her, she's a very pivotal character in this fic. I have more to say about the other kids but this has already gotten quite long so I will be leaving it here with this picture of my actual physical notes that I have pinned above my desk for quick reference when I'm writing!

yes, I did alphabetize the roll call, and also yes, I did create a physical diagram of who is friends with who, and also also yes, I have all of their table groups written out in accordance to that diagram so there are no mortal enemies or best friends on the same table to cause problems. Could u maybe do a reader who isn't just shy but has social anxiety? And who doesn't do well in highly populated areas and struggles talking to strangers and even friendsm

🌺✨Reader hates being around people in general. She tolerates her friends enough as it is and that's about all she can do. Strangers freak her out and even her friends put her over the edge sometimes. It's a constant battle in her mind to even go out and try and do things. Her stomach twists in knots and her head starts to hurt, her heart pounds like crazy when she's around people. She hates the fact she can't even go out and enjoy time with her friends because of how bad her social anxiety is.

🌺✨ Besides the social anxiety she constantly felt bad for not being able to go out with her friends. They always invited her to go out with them. Their so nice to her and try their best to try and make her feel comfortable. But all the places they want to go are out in public. She gets it because they are teenagers and want to be out in the public eye half of the time. Going out to parties, going to the mall, to the pool and stuff like that. Reader thinks all of this stuff sounds fun but the minute she goes, she wants to leave.

🌺✨She just wants to sit in her room all day and never come out. Sitting behind her phone screen and texting her friends. When they go out she always tests them and asks how they are doing. She wants to feel just a little bit included when she can't physically go. Most of the time it's enough and she feels a bit better.

🌺✨ Things change when her friends beg her to go to the mall with them. A huge new clothing shop is opening up in the middle of the mall and all her friends want to go. At first, Reader is super against the idea of going. But then her friends show her some of the stuff that will be at the store, a huge catalog of clothing on their website. Reader can't help but awe at the cute clothes that are in her size. After a lot of thinking, she finally agrees to go with them. 

🌺✨ When the day finally comes to go out Reader is on edge. She doesn't want to back out but she still doesn't want to go. Her hands get shaky on the car ride to the mall and her stomach starts to turn. Everyone seems so excited to be going but Reader could care less. Now she wishes she could just go home and stay in the comfort of her own home for the rest of the day. Finally, they all get to the mall and pile out of the car. her friends are excited to go explore the mall and eventually go to the new store. Ultimately Reader is dragged around the mall for a few hours. 

🌺✨ She does her best to stick close to her friends the whole time they are out. Avoiding as many interactions with strangers as possible. Her nervous guard is up high as they walk around the huge building. Eyes dart around as she plays with the bottom of her hoodie. She follows her friends as they go in and out of stores. Her goal is to just stay close to them and avoid everyone else until it's time for them to leave. It's been hours of none stop walking around but her friends show little sign of stopping and going home soon. They haven't end been to the new store yet.

🌺✨ After what seems like forever they finally get to the new store and go in. The place is huge compared to the old store that had been there before. They must have expanded and renovated the space. Reader is so taken aback by her new surroundings that she doesn’t even notice when she starts to lose track of her friends. Wandering over to the graphic tees she finds some shirts she wants to look at. Looking through them she finds a few that fit her style. She can't help but smile as she picks out a few shirts. For a split second, she almost forgets that she's surrounded by dozens of strangers.

Reader hummed to herself quietly as she picked up another shirt. She couldn't believe how cute and cool some of these T-shirts were. Peeking through the neat piles of shirts and picks a few up. The fact that there was a deal on them also made her feel a bit better. A deal was a deal in her eyes.

After gathering a few different shirts from the small display table she started to look around again. Her nerves were only a little better now that she was trying to focus on something else other than the massive amount of people around her.

Suddenly her eyes caught the sight of a beautiful hoodie on a display rack. It was a pastel blue and Reader knew it would go perfectly with a pair of jeans she bought recently. She just had to get it.

Before anyone could take notice she beelined it over to the almost empty racks. Looking around she saw no one in the aisle. With a long sigh, she slowly walked over to the high rack. The metal bat that held the hanger of the hoodie was a bit higher than she thought. Grunting she tried to stand on her toes to reach the pastel fabric. She was out of luck as every time her fingertips only made passing touches to the fabric. Never fully grasping the soft material.

Her eyes wished for a moment as a hand seemed to come out of nowhere and easily grabbed the hoodie.

“Are you trying to grab this?”

Hi, it’s me again, I had a couple of ideas, a couple are about possible bard reader, another is a musing for any reader, and the last is a general question.

1. Bards aren’t solely musicians, (from my dnd experience,) they also recite poems, ballads, and stories. So what if Reader tries to keep some of the more prone to boredom pilgrims by talking about various other myths and stories she might know? For example, she might’ve had an ancient Egypt or Greek mythology phase and still remembers a lot of those stories and when things are getting dull, she just goes like “Hey, wanna hear a funny story?” And then talk about Midas getting cursed with donkey ears. It manages to occupy the silence with something more interesting.

2. I’ve seen the Ruan being suggested as Reader’s instrument, but I wonder if anyone has considered the Xun. A xun is basically a small ceramic or wood instrument in the same family as the ocarina, but played slightly differently. They’re quite portable, and they could also make for a convenient “which one of these identical monkeys is Six Eared Macaque,” test. Nothing against the Ruan, just wanted to share. (Bonus: if the Reader likes the Zelda games, she could play some of those songs and most of them are either soothing or fun to dance to.)

2.5. Personally, I am an edgy girl, so if I chose to sing, it’d be like the early 2000s nu-metal songs from groups like Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and all of that other stuff, so that’d be embarrassing.

3. How are she and Tripitaka going to stay warm in the winter? There were points in the book where it was stated to be snowing or at least very cold, and idk if Guanyin would give them coats or if they’d have to get one of the other pilgrims to beg for a couple of used old coats. If Guanyin did give them some, it’d be neat to see like a feather cloak or something along those lines as feathers (down) are very good at insulating and keeping one warm.

4. Given all of the times when Tripitaka either punishes Monkey too severely and/or kicks him out, I can imagine the Six Eared Macaque arc being the one where reader genuinely loses her patience and slaps the monk across the face. She doesn’t really even say anything, just turns to leave and if they say anything about how they need her to guide them, “well, you can figure it out for yourself, because I’m done putting up with your ‘holier than thou’ bullshit.” Then goes to find Wukong. Depends on if you want the one she finds to be the real one, trying not to cry, or if she runs into his doppelgänger. (Suppose we’ll have to wait and see.)

ok soooo i'm gonna admit that at first I had no idea what you were talking about but then I remembered that one of my followers did fanart with their version of Reader using a Ruan and I just wanna say that isn't canon it was just someone's art. anything that i post about ittw on here should be considered specifically not canon just for fun. i also won't answer any questions about what will happen in the future of any of my fics or au's (i know i'm a meanie😋). you can find all my ask rules on my pinned post 😊 (tho i might update them soon)

How long did these feelings persist/do they still feel this way? Aria was a lot less guarded romantically when she was a little younger and fell pretty easily for people who took interest in her. She became involved with a Tiefling girl she met in Eastgate for quite a while who showed her a lot of places that would eventually become some of her favorite spots like The Crimson Coin. Ultimately it didn't work out because Aria became rather emotionally dependant on her. Feelings persisted for a while after and she was pretty emotionally devastated at the time but she's moved on for the most part.

📙 What kind of subjects (of conversation, of discussion, in school, or whatever) does your OC find interesting or engaging or that they can talk for hours about? What kind of stuff do they just find fun?

What things bore your OC to tears and they couldn’t care less about? Why?

Aria is passionate about a few subjects that she doesn't really get to talk about that much without getting disapproving looks from other members of Absalom aristocracy. unsurprisingly she loves talking about firearms whether it be types of firearms, new innovations in the tech, or how to properly wield one. If someone ever asked her how to use one she'd be uncharacteristically enthusiastic about teaching them. She also has a fascination with devils, demons and daemons and even though she doesn't worship any of them and has a relatively rudimentary understanding of them, she's always eager to learn more. Especially devils. She just thinks they're neat! Aria finds herself bored with any extensive discussion regarding morality, politics, history (depending on the subject)... and mathematics. 💗 What would your OC say is their best feature? Why? What do their friends / family / lover(s) / people they know think is their best feature and why? Physically, Aria would probably consider her eyes to be her best feature. She always tries to make them pop. Personality-wise, Aria is a little more insecure because she receives much more criticism on that but she thinks of herself as someone who is easily able to find fun and bring it to others whether they want to or not lol. Tyrel might be the only person in Golarion who is put in a better mood by being in proximity to Camellia but he loves her lots... Other than that, feeling as though he got the better of someone during an interaction is very satisfying to him. I wouldn't classify him as a very happy person generally. He suffers from imposter syndrome pretty badly and he doesn't particularly like himself that much even though he likes where his life ended up. He does enjoy making those close to him happy and he's usually pretty good at it with his quick wit when he's not being selfish.

What is your OC’s most hated food? Stuff they can’t stand to eat or drink? Tyrel loves a good roasted goose! The family chef used to make it for his birthday when he was little and he's very nostalgic for it! He's not too picky, and I wouldn't say he hates it but I'd say he is usually disappointed by meals that include a salad. Adelaide struggles to show affection to other people even when she genuinely cares for them. A lot of her attempts to do so when she was very young were perceived as clumsy or awkward by her family and as a result, she has a hard time showing it as an adult. Part of why she gravitates toward Shardik and animals in general is that they don't make the same judgments that people do so she feels a lot safer being affectionate with them :') 🌺 Does your OC have any tattoos or other body art? 🎒 - His freshman and sophomore year, Brooklyn had a simple black backpack. His junior and senior year he had a floral Vera Bradley backpack. He had a floral VB backpack in middle school before he transitioned, but when he first started transitioning he felt like it was too feminine and it gave him a weird sense of gender dysphoria so he got rid of it. But by his junior year he realized he actually really liked floral print regardless of gender, so he got a new one. The inside of his backpack was always very neat and clean.

📚 - Brooklyn excelled most in history classes. He has a really good memory and always found history very interesting. Outside of school he would study/read about LGBTQ+ and BIPOC history, since that wasn't really taught as much in his classes.

📞 - Brooklyn was rather nervous about parent-teacher meetings because he wasn't a super great student and was worried about what his teachers would say. His parents would usually come home from the meetings rather disappointed in him (Brooklyn doesn't have a good relationship with his parents). He liked most of his teachers, but he definitely had a few that he didn't like. He liked his English teacher, Alison DiLaurentis, because she was queer and she felt like someone he could look up to.

Sephiroth/Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII, non-canon): Most extreme case of 'never meet your idols' lol Ah, the homoeroticism of being mortal enemies :) I enjoy the poetry of Cloud, sixteen years old and three whole ounces of whoop ass, stabbing and throwing the man he used to consider his hero into a mako pit. Sephiroth obsessively haunting Cloud like a fucked up ghoul and constantly trying to girlboss gatekeep gaslight his way to complete world domination is also very fun to me. Sephiroth latching onto Cloud's memories of him as a way to keep his own identity of self...Also, I simply cannot get over Sephiroth looking at the man who killed him with BEDROOM EYES and spewing the most homoerotic shit imaginable (like, what do you mean "don't deny me, embrace me"!!! is this a game to you!??!). Anyway, I just think they're neat :)

Yan Xiaohan/Fu Shen (Golden Terrace, canon): All time favorite! Political rivals to power couple! I love these two so much. They're so romantic, their affection felt like sugar injected straight into my veins haha. I can't even come up with a single thing I love about them because I simply love everything about them! They're peak romance?? Listen, if you are interested in novels set in a historical setting, I am holding your hands and BEGGING you to purchase Golden Terrace. It's such a good novel, you won't regret it!

Yan Zhengming/Cheng Qian (Liu Yao: The Revitalization of Fuyao Sect, canon): Now, these two! No matter, no matter what, I always go back to these two. This is one of my comfort ships, mostly because they are so entertaining! Their characters are so different, yet at their core, they have the same values and goal, so it is very fun to watch how these two's clashing personalities actually compliment each other. Plus, they're just very funny, okay?? PRIEST is a comedian lol

Xie Jingxing/Shen Miao (The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage, canon): The epitome of couples who scheme together stay together! Their evolution was gradual and so satisfying to me. I enjoyed how they went from scheming acquaintences who could barely stand each other (like, I know for a fact that my girl Shen Miao fantasized having Xie Jingxing dragged off to be executed for the unforgivable crime of being a meddling annoyance—deserved lol) to allies with grudging respect towards each other and a common goal to a devoted power couple who brought a country to its knees. Xie Jingxing's constant sneaking into Shen Miao's bedroom dead into the night to plot/banter/play qi/press her buttons until she's gnashing her teeth is something i remember very fondly lol.

- Dianna would see Keigan as what true justice stands for, thinking she is like an angel brought to earth even with all the corruption in the justice system, and Keigan would see Dianna as a woman that, even though has her questionable methods, is also seeking justice just like her

- Jack would NOT survive a game where both of them were together i'm telling you that

🌺This was written a long time ago, long before JB’s hit song “Peaches”. Just a coincidence lol

  Jungkook shuffles in his bed, feeling something nudging him from his sleep gently. He holds back a groan in case it's Joy, and when he cracked his eyes open and turned to look at her, he realized he was right.

  He stares at her worriedly, as she looked like she couldn't sleep much. At least it wasn't morning sickness keeping her up this time. "Kookie," she pouted. "I'm hungry."

  He raised his brows when he heard that. Joy hadn't been hungry in weeks, he was quite concerned. He sits up immediately, perhaps a bit too quickly. But he was so eager to get her eating something. Typically, any time he got her food she would throw it up. He was glad she was finally craving something now, because it meant she would at least want to eat most of her food.

  He leans over to turn his lamp on, it emitted a warm glow over the bed and delicately tracing her features more. She definitely didn't sleep much. She has her hand on her bump, rubbing it gently. "What food do you want, jagi?"

  She hums and bites her plump lips as she thinks. "Something spicy- wait, no. Something sweet. Definitely something sweet. I want peaches."

  He chuckled at how cute she was, already throwing the blanket off his legs. "Peaches?" He asked to be sure. She nodded, looking absolutely certain as he pulled his long sleeve shirt on. Jungkook ruffles his hair before placing a beanie on his mop of hair, stepping into his slippers and grabbing his wallet. He walks around the bed and presses a kiss to her head.

  "Alright baby, I'll find you peaches. Try to sleep okay?" He pats her head, which was sort of an excuse to feel her puffy hair. Since getting pregnant, she claimed she felt too hot with her bonnet and settled for her scarf instead, revealing some of her soft, neat twists. He'd never admit how much he enjoyed touching it.

  She nods tiredly, rubbing her bump and watching him leave with a face mask on. She shuts her eyes as she waits, a little impatient.

  Thirty minutes later she opened her eyes to see her husband walking back in with a bag. She sits up, smiling widely and even clapping her hands in excitement. Jungkook chortles at her cuteness, "I could only find canned peaches, if that's okay-" he had taken it out to show her, and Joy immediately reached for it.

  He didn't think she was that hungry, she almost snatched it from his hand, and he was pretty sure she would eat her peaches with her bare hands if he wasn't quick enough. Joy pouts when she can't pull the tab to open it. "Hold on, jagi. Let me get you a fork." He honestly didn't think she was willing to eat straight from the can. He was glad to have gotten a few of them.

  He made sure to be quick about it, she'd never looked so impatient to eat as she was now. He jogs downstairs and pulls out a fork for her to eat with. He heads back upstairs with it, Joy curled up against her pillow as she was waiting.

  He easily opens the can and hands her the fork, Joy eagerly grabbing it and the can with both hands. She grins gratefully, her expression similar to that of a child. She skews a wet, juicy peach slice with the tines of her fork, pulling it out and taking a bite.

  "Thank you, Kookie." She beamed.

  Since that night Joy has been hooked on peaches. She had at least a whole can a day, and if not, then she was eating peach candy. Jungkook bought her peach ice cream, since she was craving ice and peaches at once.

  Even now, she was lying back on the couch, catching up on the latest drama as she shoveled heaps of her frozen treat into her mouth. She barely noticed his presence, the bowl balanced on the peak of her belly.

  "Kookie!" She cheered. "You're home early!" Whenever Joy had her peaches she was chipper and happy as can be. Jungkook forgot to buy more once and Joy literally bawled her eyes out until she had another slice in her mouth.

  She moves the bowl aside and starts to push herself up. "Ani, ani, you don't need to get up, baby." He waved his hand dismissively, but Joy was already on her feet. She's gotten a lot of energy since the start of her second trimester. She pulls him in for a tight hug, her arms wrapped around his neck. He felt her belly poking him.

  He supposed she's been cuddly, too. Not necessarily clingy, but she was showing more physical affection. He wraps his free hand around her to squeeze her back. She sure had a grip on him, pregnancy strength was a real thing. He could barely breathe.

  He lets her pull away, not wanting to potentially upset his wife by pulling from a hug before she was ready. Her emotions were on constant overdrive, after all. Joy gasps, smiling wide when she sees the convenience store grocery bag. "You got me more peaches!" She squeals.

  He chuckles, Joy taking the bag from him and waddling over to the kitchen, forgetting about her ice cream as she puts the cans away, amongst a few others.

  "I'm starting to think you're addicted to peaches." He called, leaning down to grab her bowl, placing it in the freezer so that it wouldn't melt completely.

  "They're really good, Kookie. You sure you don't want any?" Of course he was tempted to eat some too, the smell was constant around him now. But they were reserved to satisfy her cravings, he didn't want to take that from her.

  "I'm good, jagi, they're yours." She smiles at him, her glow seemed so prominent. She fondly rubbed her bump, it was poking out noticeably, but certainly it wasn't big just yet.

  "Are you feeling something?" He wondered, excitement igniting in his gut when she nodded. "Just flutters."

  JK placed his open palm on her tummy, which was soft and smooth. "Aww, still not ready to kick yet, hm?" He cooed at her bump.

  "You'll feel it soon," she assured, "let's make dak juk, Kookie. I really want some."

  "Anything for you, jagi." He starts to wash his hands thoroughly, Joy following suit.

  Once the food was done, and the couple was eating at their dining table, Joy was satisfied. She stares at an empty spot at the dining table, her husband follows her gaze. "What?"

  "When is it a good time to buy a high chair?" She pondered aloud. Jungkook hummed as he thought about it.

  "Well, we don't need one until the baby is at least a few months old... maybe we can get one later?" He worded his statement carefully, just in case he irritated her by saying it was too soon.

 "Okay," was all she said. Jungkook felt relieved. "Do you want more, Kookie? I can get you more." She insisted, already standing up and grabbing his bowl to refill it. She didn't have to ask to know that his day has been tiring and she knows her man's appetite very well.

  "Thanks, jagiya. You're so sweet." Much like a peach. As a matter of fact, Jungkook decided that would be her new nickname.

  She returned and handed his bowl back, taking her seat across from him again. "Is it good, peach?" He asked, smirking to himself.

  He noticed red tint on her ears, Joy shyly nodded. She always acted bashful when he called her nicknames. JK holds back a laugh at how cute she was being.

honestly. Honestly? i would love for her to have a big role. but that would be a tall order, imo. like "hey i escaped koholint/became real and now i'm going to be as important as i was in that game's world" is asking for a lot, considering ninty's act 🤧

Where I got my username from

Recently, a friend of mine asked me where I came up with my tumblr name, like what was the inspiration behind it and why. While I was telling her all about where I came up with it and why I decided that maybe I should share this with everyone else too just cause I think it’s a neat lil info story lol.

I came up with the username su-angelvicioso by myself right before I made this blog when I was still a Jasper stan *cringe* but moreso becoming a María stan. I was a cringey fangirl and super into Jasría together I still am lol and I wanted my blog username to represent that. I wanted it to be something that when you read it, you thought of them both. I also wanted to make my blog honest and open about what and who it featured so haters would steer clear lol.

I did a lot of thinking and I decided to use the phrase “His Vicious Angel”. I used that phrase because whenever I see that phrase I instantly think of them.

This being because I first ran into this phrase when I read my very first Jasría fic. It was the first fic I read that centered on Just Them and it was super interesting, unique, and it got me more hooked on the ship itself.

In the fic, Jasper referred to María as his “vicious angel” and I just found that so fitting! Even better is that he said it in Spanish and of course my cringe ass totally swooned over that. 😅

Because I think “vicious angel” sums María up so well. Like she’s super dangerous and formidable, but she’s so angelic, so sickly sweet and charming it’s like you almost forget how dangerous she really is.

You never see it coming. You never know what to do. She keeps you on your toes because she’s so unpredictable.

So I decided to use that phrase, but to make it look more cool and add a lil spice to it the way that fic did, I decided to put it in Spanish.
