♡ slashers scenarios | y’all accidentally adopt a kid (part 2)
♡ fandoms; House of Wax, Hannibal (TV)/Silence of the Lambs, slashers (general)
♡ characters; Vincent Sinclair, Bo Sinclair, Hannibal Lecter
♡ reader; gender neutral
♡cw; parenthood, kidnapping, mentions of violence. basically don’t tell these guys you want a kid ig
♡notes; another sparse selection but i don’t think Billy Lenz is allowed within 100 yards of a school so it is what it is
also I hate how much I’m starting to love Bo oh my god
•┈••✦ ❤ ✦••┈•
Vincent Sinclair
Tumblr media
> he’s a nurturing man- to his brothers and you
> hell he babies Jonesy too
> even so, he’s shocked when you mention offhandedly that he’d make a good father
> he denies it vehemently
> even as the golden child he grew up in hell
> no way he’d know how to do any of it right
> but you just gently laugh and shake your head, insisting but not pressing it
> it makes him think
> and think and think
> he didn’t know much about kids, but you’d be a great parent
> and you wouldn’t lie to him- maybe he’d be at least an okay father
> families don’t come through often
> and when they do, Lester leaves them be
> if they ever get to Ambrose on their own, the town stays off- none of the Sinclairs want anything to do with harming children
> but mistakes happen, and Bo is freaking out
> a little girl with dark hair and bright blue eyes was sleeping in the back of a car while he took care of her parents, and he didn’t realize until far to late
> she’s maybe 3, and awfully scared and quiet- but when they bring her in the house she walks right up to you and Vincent
> she hugs your leg and finally smiles when Vincent kneels down to show her that Jonesy is a nice dog
> Bo is in shock when you volunteer to adopt her, but Vincent is in quick agreement
> she’s nonverbal, but you look through her family’s things to find out her name - Lilly Henson, or something to that affect .
> Lilly Sinclair has a much better ring to it anyways, doesn’t it?
Bo Sinclair
Tumblr media
> he’s the type that if you mention that you want a kid to this man, he asks what color
> he is endlessly devoted to you
> and while he never wanted a kid before, he’s always so insistent you make him a better man
> so some snot nosed brats would complete the picture perfectly
> he’s not super serious about it, not really
> you have plenty of time to plan for a family
> and he’s the type to want biological children if possible- he’s so used to white picket fence suburbia-type ideals
> when a car pulls up to the gas station, he stops when he sees the infant car seat in the back
> he’s about to tell the parents to move along- but then he sees the second matching one
> something - probably his overinflated self worth - tells him he’d be a much better father to twins that these chucklefucks
> and you want a kid anyways! would two be much better
> they’re not identical- he’s not not disappointed by the fact, but they’re still adorable
> a boy and a girl a bit over a year, with big brown eyes and infectious giggles
> he’s beyond proud when he strides in with them
> “daddy’s home!”
> he thinks you might actually kill him this time
> but then Charlotte - the girl based on what’s embroidered on her blankie, reaches for you and you melt
> you’re still scolding him as you happily take Theodore too
> but he knows you’re beyond thrilled
Hannibal Lecter
Tumblr media
> he’s always wanted a successor
> quite frankly it never had to be his child - or a child at all
> he thought about taking younger serial killers in the making under his wing more than once
> to teach them the art of culinary cannibalism and the finer points of flaying people
> but it’s far too dangerous - especially with you around
> you’re the one thing that trumps his egomania
> so he lets it be for the time being
> but one day, he takes on a special case at work
> a young boy who recently lost his parents very violently
> he’s in kindergarten, and expresses most everything through his rather advanced drawings
> you don’t interact with his patients- even though he works from home you’re pretty skilled at dodging them
> but on the way out that afternoon the little boy- Peter, his name is, runs out before his social worker and smack dab into you
> she apologizes on his half profusely but you’re so sweet with the boy
> you pick up his dropped drawings and comfort him- he’s quite upset he may have hurt or angered you
> he gives you a huge hug and Hannibal can see the fond, parental look on your face
> after that it’s quite simple to draw up the paperwork
> he’s already in foster care, and it only takes a few false documents to make the courts think that Hannibal’s custody is the best place for little Peter
> you learned long ago that it’s best not to question how or why Hannibal does something when he gets like that
> and either way you’re content with your new little family

Honestly, i always love myself a good messed up slasher. Especially when they work in pairs (Scream, anyone?)
But when it gets to the story of Killer Frequency, I always just keep wanting to pull Marie aside and go "Yoooooou! Put that boy through so much trauma! And then JUMPED?!"
And like in your art, I doubt this is just a spur of the moment thing, like she's been training for this! Imagine as a young child waking up and your mother teaches you to whistle, not because it's a fun little skill but bc you're gonna use it to terrorize then murder people with.
You are compared to a father you've never even met and somewhat care but also don't care for because it's an image presented to you via your mother who you love so much you'd do anything for.
You are taught to use a knife, probably. Something just tells me this isn't their first instance of killing someone, especially Marie. I mean do you remember Mrs. Loomis in Scream 2 when Randy is talking shit and she MAIMS him? That's Marie all the way.
There's just... so much to say about Marie. Like what was she even planning to do after this fact?
THISSS!!! ALL OF THIS!!!!
I don’t think this was the intention, but her jumping off Whistling Point at the end seemed to me like it was something she’d planned the entire time, like she’d planned it to be a murder-suicide from the get go. I think in reality it was probably just a very serendipitous coincidence that’s where her running from the cops took her and she took the easy way out due to the convenience. I’m just a sucker for drama and having her basically planning a 20-year long suicide plan is pretty dark.
But either way, she completely threw Henry to the wolves. Obviously she told him to run but what parent wouldn’t be like “don’t go after him he had nothing to do with it it’s me you want”??? Like girl you’re just gonna orphan your son?? Who looked up to you so?
I do not doubt for a single second that she raised Henry for that night and that night alone. Literally nothing else mattered. She absolutely screwed him over and let herself believe she was doing the right thing. If you think about the game for more than five seconds the real tragedy becomes obvious.
I totally agree with you that Henry did it less because he loved his father and wanted revenge for his death but more because he loved his mother who loved his father and wanted to do right by her. Like some of my own relatives passed away before I was born, and I was told stories about them, but I don’t feel a connection to them at all. I feel connected to how my parents felt about them. Like one of my parents lost their brother (my uncle) but i feel worse for them losing their sibling than i do for myself losing an uncle, if that makes sense. I can definitely see Henry thinking something along the lines of “yeah my dad was killed and it sucks and it’s not fair I never got to meet him, but look what his death did to my mom, it destroyed her, and it’s all their fault she’s been miserable for 19 years”
Yeah, Marie taught him, raised him, to be this. It should be a parent’s worst nightmare for their kid to turn into a monster, but she encouraged it. Completely unfair. And yeah I mean we know from Clive’s tapes that Whistling Night wasn’t their first foray into murder. They’d been chasing down stragglers for a while before then, could have been anywhere from months to weeks to days before.
As for what her plan was after the fact… I don’t think she had one, to be perfectly honest. This was all that mattered. I mean like- she even revealed her identity and the identity of her son ON AIR, so it would be way harder to go into hiding anyway. To me that says she didn’t really plan ahead. Just be perpetually on the run?

can i ask for some headcanons?
maybe creeps and a child proxy whos only comfy around them bc they remind them of a fave foster parent?
🐸 and a forg for your troubles
Jeff, Toby, EJ, Nina and Jane with a child proxy who's only comfy around them HCs
- Jeff never expected to be in a parental/big brother roll again. He's supposed to be the most notorious and feared killer there is. Not fucking playing single dad over here! So imagine his surprise when the slenderman brought in a child no more than 4 years old and apparently the kid has no fear factor they just ran up to the biggest baddest person there was and befriended him. Ever since then Jeff became wrapped around their little finger.
-very over protective of them. He won't let anyone train them except for him and him alone. And if he has to let someone else take the reins for a bit he's watching them closely like a hawk. Trains them in relatively age appropriate ways as they grow up. They play pretend fucked up scenarios like how missions work or what to do when things go wrong how to interact with the other creeps. Think of it like 'it's me your scumbag dad' videos. He will teach them how to curse and questionable life lessons as they grow up.
-Toby is way too much of a nervous wreck to take care of himself let alone anyone else. And ever since Lyra died he's been too afraid to get attached to someone ever again despite the void in his heart. So imagine to everyone's surprise when the slenderman brought home a child no more than 9 years old. Clearly traumatized and heart broken and shooken up about whatever happened that brought them there. Toby protested about putting the kid with him as slenderman wouldn't take no for an answer. He's holding the kid out like how Mike wazozski holds out boo for the first time.
-at first he tried to distance himself from the child. Going as far as hitting and being mean to the child. He left them in the woods once. However that child was a persistent little creature and always found their way back to Toby. They followed him around everywhere like a lost puppy until he started to warm up to them after accepting that they'll forever always be there. He teaches them a lot of nature stuff. How to track. How to survive in the woods and to fight off predators. The raccoons and possums are your friends. He actually enjoyed being the big brother for once and the child filled the void in his heart that he desperately craved for.
-Jane was thrilled when the slenderman brought home a little girl. She's always had mothering instincts and she immediately scooped the child into her arms and the rest is history.
-very protective of her and keeps her the he'll away from Jeff. Going as far to lock her in her bedroom when Jane or anyone else she trusted wasn't around to accompany her. Keeps her on a very strict schedule for training and life to establish a routine before she allows the freedom of leeway and slight change of plans. Especially establishes a beauty routine. Jane teaches her that there are more than one ways to kill. Brains over brawn. Beauty comes second. Occasionally if they have free time they will have a girl's night where they do spa treatments, each other's hair, makeup and they eat relatively healthy snacks as they watch movies and gossip.
-EJ was quite confused when the slenderman dropped off a child to him with no word. Is it food? A sacrifice? A new prey?. He was curious and the child was non verbal so it's not like they could answer either besides head nods and writing and facial expressions and body language. Really he ended up not caring and didn't really bother the child as long as the child did not bother him.
-it all changed when the child showed intrigued in anatomy. After he caught them reading his old college textbooks. They communicate by sounds at this point. Showed them on a dead person where the organs were and why they were important. Later on the child became more of the strong silent type and was basically EJs assistant. They have a mentor/apprentice relationship. The kid knows first aid as well and makes a fine medic
-Nina was hyperactively jumping up and down for joy when the slenderman brought a 10 year old girl home who had the same aesthetic as her. They clicked instantly and immediately bounced off of each other's crack head energy.
-shes Nina's partner in crime and has never separated from her and Nina won't trade that for the world.
I hope you like these and feel free to ask again!

you mentioned two more opla ocs on the discord, now im putting u on the spot! i wanna hear about em!! or whatever details/ideas you have currently ✨🩵 — @xoteajays
Ahhh, thank you so much for asking about my newest pirate show babies, TJ!! I definitely don’t mind being put on the spot if it’s for them <3. And I’m also gonna tag the One Piece gang @auxiliarydetective, @oneirataxia-girl, @starcrossedjedis, @supermarine-silvally, and @endless-oc-creations!!
Tumblr media
Now, first we have Morvant Bellatrix! She’s a former assassin, basically born and raised to kill (she was orphaned as a baby and the people who took her in were Not Great), and while she was doing this work she was one of the most feared people in the East Blue. This was mostly because of her incredible fighting skills and talent with almost every weapon you could think of, but it was also because she’d eaten a Devil Fruit as a child (the exact name of which is still pending) that granted her the ability to inflict pain on someone just by singing a specific song. Think a very twisted version of Rapunzel’s healing song from Tangled, that’s basically what she can do. Eventually, though, she got tired of killing all the time and decided to do the only thing she could think of to get out of it: she went back and killed the couple who had raised her (turns out they’d trained her a little too well) and eventually went on to become the captain of the Fatale Pirates, an all-female crew of fearsome pirates who sail on the ship Belladonna.
Bellatrix first meets the Straw Hats at Baratie, where her crew just happens to stop for some food at the same time they do, and takes an instant liking to all of them (even if she does persist in calling Zoro Green Bean after he sasses her). She makes a silent promise to protect them, and after their whole fight with Arlong and the other fishmen when Luffy finally gets a bounty placed on him, she does her best to use her terrifying reputation (which even if she isn’t an assassin anymore she still has due to her Devil Fruit power and penchant for ruthlessness in battles with other pirates) to keep bounty hunters and other, crueler pirates off the Straw Hats’ tails. It doesn’t always work, because you can’t ever fully control pirates, but she does her best because damn it, those are her children (that she’s adopted only in her head after exactly five minutes of knowing them).
She’s also a Mihawk ship! The two of them have known each other since Bellatrix’s assassin days, and Mihawk has even been asked by Garp to “neutralize” Bellatrix a time or two (which he’s never done and would never even try to do, because he both respects her too much and is just a tiny bit afraid of her). The two of them have never really officially gotten together or even put a label on their relationship, but they’ve spent a lot of nights together and you don’t have to know very much about either Mihawk or Bellatrix to know that they both have a weakness for the other. (Although if anyone ever tries to hurt Bellatrix in an attempt to get to Mihawk, they will find out just how dangerous she can be on her own.)
Tumblr media
And then we have Yami Corvo, my Shanks ship! Like Bellatrix, they also have assassin experience, but they’re currently participating in the art of killing, and one of the most feared killers in all four Blues. They’re also a Devil Fruit eater, and their power includes being able to manipulate their own blood and be able to solidify it into weapons (I’m pretty sure you mentioned you’ve seen Gen V, TJ, so just basically imagine Marie’s powers). Unlike Bellatrix, they were raised as an assassin or fed their Devil Fruit, they ate theirs by accident, but the powers it gave them made them such an outcast and lead even their own parents to believe they were a monster, so eventually they just decided that they might as well give in to what they saw as their “true nature” at that point, running away from their small village and seeking out various other assassins to teach them how to kill, and honing their powers so that it would be even easier for them.
And unlike a lot of other assassins, who might refuse to kill older people or poor people, Corvo has no such moral code; if you can pay the price they charge, they’ll go after anyone you want them too. Killing isn’t even really something they enjoy, but again, they see it as just being what they’re supposed to be, what those around them when they were a child always told them they were: a rabid dog, a monster to be unleashed. At some point, they just stop caring, growing completely numb and almost wishing that one of their targets would fight back and kill them so they could stop… which is probably why they accept money from an angry former pirate captain whose ship was destroyed by Mihawk to kill the dangerous War Lord.
They completely fail, of course, because there’s almost no one who can beat Mihawk in a fight no matter what kind of cool powers you have - but Mihawk, seeing an opportunity to have someone incredibly dangerous and powerful on his side, spares Corvo’s life and offers to bring them along with him on his travels. Originally Corvo is furious that Mihawk didn’t just kill them, but despite how awfully they think of themself they’re still absolutely desperate for companionship and anything at all like a friend, so they accept his offer and the two of them set off together, carrying out Mihawk’s little escapades and occasionally doing the bidding of the Marines - which is how Corvo finally meets Shanks, when Mihawk shows up to show him Luffy’s new wanted poster.
Honestly, they and Shanks are such an amazing and sweet couple; Shanks becomes interested in Corvo roughly five seconds after meeting them, and after realizing how terrible their self-esteem is and how much of a monster they think they are makes it his mission to get to know them and help them see that they really aren’t as bad as they believe themself to be. It takes them a good while to actually get together, because Corvo has to find who they actually are outside of killing and their Devil Fruit power and realize that they aren’t going to wind up killing anyone they dare to care about (and because Mihawk has actually become kind of a protective bestie over them and gives Shank several very intense shovel talks), but they’re amazing once they actually do get together and Luffy pretty much immediately sees Corvo as a stepparent when he and Shanks finally see each other again.
Anyways, thanks again for asking about my new babies!! Hope you’re doing well, love. <3 <3

CHARACTER INFO: NOUR NAZARI
verse:(s) 1x1 (everyone else) & multi (sweet spot *with kayla*) open or closed muse: open for plotting current partner(s): @outfromthesea (kayla on discord) / @gothhoneys what: character information
tw: she's essentially inspired by that professor that teaches about slashers that had about 5 minutes of screentime in that scream movie, except she lives, so yeeah. viewer discretion advised. except not really. idk.
AESTHETIC
loving slasher and horror movies, despite your family just not understanding at all ★ deciding to teach about these films because there are layers to them and it’s fun for you ★ finding it interesting that you still have a passion for these films, even after your life turns into one of these movies, when you’re attacked by a killer one day out of nowhere ★ being essentially a final girl, and having to move, but still teaching despite the fact that you can still be found out. but it’s fine, you can’t just quit your life just because one weirdo tried to kill you. you’re a survivor. you will always be a survivor.
Tumblr media
HISTORY
★  Nour was raised by two immigrant parents who had no idea what they were getting into when they had Nour. At a young age, Nour proved to be hyper-active and headstrong and happened to do whatever she set her mind to, and wasn’t what they expected in a daughter. However, they weren’t put off by this at all. They had already had a quiet, well-mannered son. So they thought having a daughter who spoke her mind, balanced off their family. And even though they followed certain Persian traditions, they weren’t strict, so they weren't super strict with her.
★  At a young age, Nour knew that she wanted to teach. Teach what? – she didn’t know.  But she knew she wanted to teach people, because at a young age she discovered she was a good teacher. She would teach her fellow students how to read when they couldn’t keep up in class, so that the other students wouldn’t make fun of them, by teaching them about her favorite stories. Typically they were stories her mother told her. Stories that she heard that were based on fairy tales, basically, or myths. Nothing too scary.
So, when she did discover the horror genre by accident, one day, when her teacher read her a story involving a witch, she was so excited that she decided that that was all she was going to read. This led her to stories in her own culture that were scary and other cultures.
Which eventually led her to a sleepover, where a girl put on the movie ‘Halloween’.  The movie, though not as scary as the books and stories she’d been reading, had still scared her, and had set off something in her. It had made her want to watch every horror and slasher she could get her hands on. and from then on out, she would watch every horror and slasher she could find, even if they were bad.
Her parents and her brother did not understand it, and thought it was a waste of time. And her friends, though she would talk about other things, and she was still charismatic, thought it was a bit annoying that she was more interested in these movies than them at times.
They thought she wouldn’t be able to do anything with her knowledge in these movies, until she was given the opportunity to study them at university, and eventually was given the opportunity to teach others information about them.
★  While teaching, she was excited, because she’d finally met someone who shared her passion for horror. Though they seemed more interested in romance movies, they still watched horror and slasher films with her, and were cool enough to be around and were affectionate towards her. They made her smile and made her feel loved. The two of them had an awesome time together and often went out whenever they weren’t teaching their courses or preoccupying themselves with the media.
However, one day, a killer went on the loose and their target was Nour. They were obsessed with Nour and her class. They thought that Nour’s interest in slasher’s would make an interesting game and led her on a game of cat and mouse around campus and around town.
She was fine with it, at first, because she thought that she could handle it and that no one would get hurt because she knew her movies. However, 3 students were killed and so was her significant other at the time. Which left her feeling guilty and in therapy. It didn’t help that she had almost died after having fallen out of a first story window.
The experience had left her confused, hurt, and with some mental illness troubles. But she refuses to let it have her quit her job. She’s moved towns, but she still works. She hasn’t stopped, won’t stop. She still loves the slasher genre. Still loves teaching.
HEADCANONS
★  A fan of the movie ‘Halloween’. It was the first slasher she’s ever seen, and it’s the one she revisits every Halloween. Even after her incident with the killer who tried to kill her, she still rewatches it because she loves Jamie Lee Curtis and thinks Michael Meyers is a fun movie Villain.
★  Enjoys talking about any movie from the bottom to the top. She can be over the top about it, too. It tends to annoy her friends and loved ones, but she can’t help herself. She just has a habit of taking things apart and bringing it down into bite sized pieces. It’s just how she is. It’s fun for her.
★  She’s only been in love twice. Once with a girl in high school who took her out on a date that she didn’t even know was a date, and another time with another professor who was killed by a killer who wanted her dead. Now, she’s falling for someone else.
★  Loves visiting coffee shops, but not Starbucks type shit. Real stuff.
ABOUT
Even though Nour’s been through a lot, she’s rather optimistic about the world around her. Or rather, she tries to be. She’s been hurt by the world and the people in it, sure. But she knows that not everyone is like that, so she tries not to let the fact that she’s been hurt get to her head. It’s hard sometimes to think in a positive light, but she has to if she wants to live a decent life. Or that’s what she tells herself. She’s living a decent life currently though, surviving after a deep loss and being manipulated, and she wants to try new things just in case she’s not given the opportunity to live life to its fullest, or if some copycat wants to cut her life short.
connections:
unnamed journalist - @outfromthesea - they share an understanding of good food in a location where there is generally not many good places that serve good food and they get along great.
adam daenzer - @gothhoneys - someone she meets in her new city who she befriends, a cool person. an understanding of scary books.

Neil Josten (All For The Game) Propaganda
“Serial killer dad and abusive mom who raised him on the run his whole childhood”
“His father is a crime lord and basically sold him to the mafia as a child so his mother stole a bunch of money from his father and went on the run with him and they are hunted by his father's men. While his mother (arguably) loves him, she very much emotionally neglected him and physically punished him when he didn't keep a low enough profile. Then his mom is killed by his fathers men, so after being controlled by her all his life (for survival) he has to live on his own for the first time. And then also his father has him tortured and tries to kill him later on. So plenty of Mommy and Daddy issue to go around.”
“Neil was raised by a father in the mafia that is known as the butcher because he kills a bunch of people with a cleaver like that's his job in the mafia and he's abusive and terrible to Neil. Then his mom finally escapes with him and they have to live on the run for several years while his father tries to track them down. While on the run his mother is also abusive in a way that is trying to keep him safe but still abuse (like hitting him for going out with a girl because she doesn't want them to get too close to people). Anyways his father finally catches up to them and kills his mother and then he has to burn her body on the beach so. He doesn't trust anyone, especially not older men, and he also has to deal with the mental trauma that his mother put on them while on the run and it greatly affects his relationships with other people. He needs therapy so deeply but doesn't believe in it. Sometimes he wakes up reaching for a gun that he used to keep next to him at all times. He doesn't move when he sleeps bc his mom would hit him for it. Most of his actions in the series hinge on the fact that his father will find and kill him. He can't stop thinking about the way his mother's body looked as it burned. He's got so many problems <3 but he meets a bunch of other people who also have a lot of trauma and they bond and it's beautiful”
"Well, his father is the Butcher of Baltimore, a serial killer who's the head of a gang with equally horrible people. His father has his people torture Neil to teach him how to be like Nathan, and also tortures him himself. One incident in Neil's childhood is when he couldn't sit still enough when the police come round and, when they leave, his father whacks him with a hot iron. Then, his dad decides to basically sell him to the yakuza that he works for - or, at least, to a branch of it that controls a sport (Exy). They also mess up the college kids in their care, hurting those they feel they own.
To stop this, Neil's mum grabs him and goes on the run with him, so for a good portion of his life, Neil is moved around, told not to amount to anything so he's not noticed, and lives in constant fear. If he does anything his mum considers wrong or that could get them found, she would beat him, and often immediately moved them on. "
“His mother beat him frequently when they were on the run (out of fear because he could endanger them so she was trying to correct his behavior but still there are better ways). Like his relationship with his mom is so fucked that one of the first things we learn about him is that he likes smelling cigarette smoke to remind him of when he burned her body after she died. At one point he goes I wonder if my mom is watching over me from the afterlife, hopefully not because she would probably try to kill me. This is of course, his good parent.
His father tortured him on several occasions growing up and was going to sell him to his boss for him to become a professional athlete when he was like 10 but if his boss decided that he couldn't be a sports star he would kill him. When Neil is on the run, he has to live in constant fear of his father finding him and his mom. Later in the series his father does finally catch him and pretty brutally tortures him (this is Neil's second time being tortured in these books about college sports) where he is covered in cuts and burns (some of those were from his father's subordinates to be fair) and his father was planning on gutting him and dismembered him until Neil's uncle came in and killed him.
Anyways of course the boy raised by two different mafia families has a problematic relationship to his parents."
"so basically. his dad is a mafia affiliated serial murderer who abused him his whole early childhood, which already sucks ass for neil. but THEN, this guy tried to essentially sell him to a yakuza organization (that also def would have abused him as well, not that he really cared) to pay off his debts, making him property of a yakuza organization that would profit off of him by (im not joking here) making him play a sport that is basically aggressive indoor lacrosse and allowing him to be abused in any possible way. and you may be saying, wow, that’s really messed up and kind of a weird roundabout way to settle debts, but what about his mom? and uh. oh boy. what about his mom.
his mom saw that her son was being sold to be a little lacrosse prisoner for his whole life and took her son and ran away from her husband. so she seems nice, right? wrong. she canonically refused to let him get to know anyone and hit him for even thinking about any kind of romantic feelings towards other people which. okay. i get that ur on the run from ur mob husband that wants to kill you but maybe be nice to ur son?? tbr tho, she doesn’t get that long a chance to, considering that a few years into being on the run she gets murdered by the aforementioned mob husband’s henchmen, after which she asks neil to dispose of her body by Burning It In A Car Fire and Burying Her On A Beach. so. uh. he does that. and then you’d think, oh, that’s quite a lot to happen to one person, he should stop having to Go Through It, right? but no. that’s just his backstory. we haven’t even gotten to the actual plot yet.
cut to years (and two and a half books) down the line, and he’s still on the run from his aforementioned killer mob dad who has sent henchmen after him to kill him. once he gets out of jail (he was in jail for a while there btw. i have no idea why these henchmen stuck with him after that but that’s beside the point), one of his henchmen kidnaps neil and the mob dad is like okay! im going to kill you with a knife now after my henchman tortures you! bye bye son! and neil is like yeah. that’s expected. and later when his dad is killed he is very much like ding dong the witch is dead (sidebar: he was not like that about his mom’s death. his relationship with his mom is very like… she loved me in her own way but she wasn’t kind but did she even have the chance to be? and i’ll never know but she showed glimpses of it i miss her so bad im glad ill never see her again. yk? lowkey the slightest bit complex i’ll give nora that and only that)
(second sidebar: neil looks Just Like His Dad and fully cannot look at himself in a mirror because of it. like he wears color contacts for Disguises while he’s on the run and he takes them out for more than like two seconds and goes out in public with His Dad’s blue eyes and he’s like I Want To Puke this is so bad.)
as a bonus the coach of the basically-lacrosse team he joins meets him and within literally an hour of knowing him was like “oh btw. i don’t hit kids. you look like you needed me to clarify that for you as if that’s not a given” and neil, after only knowing that this guy was roughly the same age and build as his father was like “yeah right” and genuinely does not truly think that this man isn’t out to get him until the end of the second book. it took him 2/3 of the plot to trust this man to even the smallest degree. what is even going on in nora’s brain that made her write this"

Huntress (1989), issues 1-6
Reading Huntress is very painful, actually. But it's for sure better than what I would expect from a late 80s-early 90s story (I really dislike comics of that era in general).
I guess everyone knows Helena's basics, more or less: a child of a mafioso, survivor of CSA, her parents are killed by mob when she's in college. She then decides to get revenge on her parents' murderers, and protect herself, by donning a mantle of Huntress. But ends up doing so much more.
The first scene of the comics is her saving a woman from a sexual assault. After finding out her name, Helena, Huntress says, with some nostalgia: yeah, I knew a girl like that once.
Then the story spins into a flashback. Helena - a little girl, pretty trusting and friendly, and why wouldn't she, she's visiting a shop of her father's friend, just wants some chocolate. She overhears shop owner dressing down his son for talking about business to the outsiders. He talks to him about what omerta is. You know, no talking to outsiders, and every issue is solved within the community.
On the way back home, a guy, saying he's a friend of her father's, invites her to the car. And you already know what's going to happen. You knew soon after you seen that guy looking at Helena. Walking up. Patting her head. Accosting her outside the shop.
But thankfully, the story changes to Bertinelli's estate.
We see her parents, going crazy because Helena is not home yet. It's late at night. For all the corrupt officials Bertinelli has in his pockets, for all the muscle he employs, nobody can find his daughter.
The issue of sexual and gender-based violence is a recurring theme. In the issue 3, a witch of sorts is helping mother's, wives, daughters living in the community (it seems like they're probably immigrants or first generation Americans? Thus strong distrust of cops, among the other things) to get back control over their lives if the men took it from them, or, if they're victimized, she teaches them how to save themselves.
Then cops pull up. Helena is with them. She is smiling wide, and this smile is terrifying. More so as she goes up to her room, all the while you notice how her clothes are untidy, short sleeve ripped, the dirt or the bruising on her skin. She's not telling a word. Code of silence, this issue is named. And yeah. It's exactly what it is - moreso in the eighties. I, an adult woman in XXI century am struggling to talk about things like this. What about a child, and then?
Here, we again see the scenes of Helena's past. Now, from a point of view of a child she was then. The art really invokes the fear she felt then.
In the issue 5, we find out that Helena wasn't the first victim of that guy. And turns out, he's already dead - killed by the same guy who played Helena's bodyguard and now teaches her how to do what she does, bandages her wounds, listens to her about the investigation. (By the way, I was so sure it was Bruce! You know, it would make sense for him to look at her and see, you know, her trauma and my trauma match, let's bring her in)
But the guys who ordered and executed the murder of his father are not. And then Helena goes after them - one of them threatens to rape her. The fear in her eyes, in that scene, is chilling. But then, the next panel, we see her picking up a knife, slowly.
Tumblr media
The scene doesn't devolve in a fight immediately. But still, that panel is by far my favorite.
Or this one, where she sends her parents' killer to his death. It wasn't what she planned initially, she tried to help him - but then he spewed all that bullshit about how she's his (Helena has flashback to the assault in her childhood and to the rape threat made by the guy he hired to kill her parents). So, down he goes:
Tumblr media
After that, she finds a book of her father's, written in code. She decides to keep it instead of all the riches he left her - money won't buy her happinness... or her family. And the book can help her to dismantle what her father built.

It took me days to finish. Second pic is a more casual outfit. Anyway, here’s my rottmnt OC Chimera Solbritt and she’s a bombyx. Aaaaaand also she’s a witch (i’m almost sorry for Donnie). Really hate that we saw so little of witches and furthermore they were not so.....thrilling. I’m not a good writer, so i’ll just throw out some facts about her and backstory. Maybe my headcanon will make creators and nickelodeon so angry that they’ll decide to continue the show just to prove me wrong.
So this little cutie has problems with her family (on account of them being killed) and were took in by Big Mama and trained by her aunty, so her english is better, otherwise that would be a disaster.
BM took her as last favor to her friend (a witch), trying not to dig Chimy into her illegal business too much, but girl would peak her nose once in a while (she’s a real fan of true crime, how could she miss something like that?).
She’s a product of love of a human (scientist) and yokai (witch), whose bond was a problem for the witch’s town by itself, and a reason of their demise. Chimera was thought to be dead too,but she was teleported by her papá along with Bee (little robotic head next to her),who was supposed to be her nanny, but became a life-long companion. He recorded some things from the crime scene, including her father’s goodbye and face of the killer.
Unfortunately,it took some time to reach her mother (she was in the witch town currently, while dad was above), and since she had no idea her daughter was alive, she took the poison to avoid being forcefully married. Basically, it was a butterfly trap. Her sister,Venus, was there to witness this, but she couldn’t blame her. Bee arrived just in time to reveal the truth and record mother’s advise to stay away from the killer.
Knowing that Mira (yep,I want a dark side of familiar characters in this plot, because I do not trust this lady), would want her own granddaughter dead, Venus knew that girl cannot stay, so by the advice of her Cimy’s mother, she took her to the hotel, sneaking there once in a while to teach her and tell stories of her parents.
Unfortunately, the rebellious spirit didn’t let this little bombyx to let it go. Besides, she needed more magical knowledge, she needed to enroll in the academy to study. So,one day, when she was about 10 y.o. the “miracle” happened, and the long lost granddaughter returned to “her home”. Of course Mira was playing the victim, crying and telling that both of her parents died in the accident from one of their experiments.(those damn scientists can’t do anything right).
It was hard for Chimy to hide the fact of knowing the truth, and she never felt safe in Mira’s home when she visited, but she played along, hiding the repulsion to the touch and liars. Especially, when you see Gentry has the attention and magic lessons Chimy needs, and that’s after all “i love you\i missed you”. But i guess having the half of capabilities of others-it is how it is. Or maybe Mira didn’t trust the bombyx just as much.
Long story short,Chimy was never enough for Mira, never capable enough, eventually, she gave up on teaching my girl. Probably for the best, she was quite an abusing teacher, like many of them in the scool. Is it too dumb to want to be loved by your grandmother and teachers and still hate them?
So to begin her way to the top properly, Chimera had do enlarge the amount of magic she can hold\produce, call it mana if you want. Before that, to learn magic ways properly, she had to use her staff\umbrella with Bee on the end, potions and elixirs, particularly healing ones. Quite a useful buddy this Bee, after all,a creation of magic AND science.
Scool days weren’t exactly easy, from the one hand, because she enrolled in the collective that was already formed and got used to each other, from the other hand, because Chimera was mostly looking humanish, the only things visibly telling that she is certainly not a human were her little wings, teeth, eyes and ears. She’s not unusual enough to blend in with yokai, and way too unusual to blend in with humans. Her fluff, retractable arms, spots and colour, the size of her wings were developed during all these years, heck, even the silk wasn’t always the thing. All of that made it only harder to get used to, clumsy and insecure. You can’t say she was bullied necessarily, but she’s never felt being a part of community. It definitely affected her social anxiety. By the end of scool she got 2 close friends, then the group rose to 5.
Being tired of this buzz of thoughts and failures in her head she quitted the scool and embarked on her little adventure outside the New York, (approximately during the time of season 1-2 and the movie) travelled to the temple where she learned wind and light as an elemental attack and empowered her dark magic, and enlarged her mana.
Coming back to NY, she had to pass an exam to show her progress in magic, which wasn’t a problem for her this time even without the umbrella, but she changed her form of education to distance learning, cause really she found out more useful things for her outside the scool.
FACTS TIME
second and third pair of arms are retractable. First pair, normal skin, second-fluffy, third-more like a chitin, they’re thinner than the other pairs. Her height is actually about Mikey’s, but since she’s walking on her “tiptoes” (it’s more comfortable bc of her bone structure) she appears to be higher.
produces silk, uses it to create a rought terrain,to catch, to make a shield from lightning damage or to crochet.
umbrella has planetary signs and on the top is a sun sign
her bailiwick is dark magic mostly (such things as hypnosis, darkness based harm\destruction spells, illusions, curses, mind control (uses her threads to make sort of puppet) and so on), but she tries to learn all kinds of elementary essence attack spells (darkness, light, wind, fire, ice, thunder) and combine them into new spells.
has bags under her eyes, mostly because she stays up late, her sleep schedule is a mess. Partially because she couldn’t fall asleep in Mira’s home due to feeling unsafe, partially because she just likes staying up late and doing hobbies, with all that learning there’s should be time for fun, right? After meeting the Mad Dogs, she could spend several nights without sleeping learning\practicing spells or looking for a particular one that they need.
in a fight she will aim to hurt badly, but won’t kill, so you could “remember it and fear”,at least thats how she presents it (in reality she’s probably too soft for that and won’t cross the line, unless she absolutely has to and there’s no other way). Her main energy is anger, but the cold one. Even though that shows her as insensitive, she’s very emotional towards animals and animated little creatures (like robots),probably because she feels they are weaker and has an instinct to protect them. Same goes for allies, but maybe with less tears, cause they can handle themselves.
doesn’t like any physical touch if whe doesn’t like\know you. For some reason, this sometimes irritating, orange masked turtle grew fast on her...maybe her shell is getting thinner. (they’re totally besties, she freaking loves Dr. Delicate touch)
They also share a hobby with Mickey-drawing. Also she crochets, makes press on nails by herself, watches true crime videos, destroys the patriarchy, u know, girl stuff
uses her wings for DAZZLING and casting(it’s absolutely extra), more than for flying, because that would be an easy target and not as fast as a staff and magical means. Besides, she’s a bombyx, they generally can barely fly,so it’s more a soaring situation and a great base for teasing in school. At least she looks great and won’t take any falling damage. So she uses umbrella for fast travel\dodging or teleportation.
She considers incident in witch town very amusing (Donnie vs witch town),considering her tense relationship with this place. Especially after Mira turned down her offer of destroying the beast for good with another potion or a dark spell that Chimera has been tinkering with. Not because of the lack of practise, but because it would damage her reputation as a mayor, since she’s not the one who came up with that.
She genuinely finds Donnie entertaining. Her reaction to his noises and attempts to be a mad scientist is pretty much the same as Luz’s reaction to King (like: awww he steppet his wittle foot~) Does it irritate him? Very much. But at least they both have a theme to infodump (science and magic) and they cannot understand eachother, which is a new experience for Donnie, to be in his brothers’ shoes. But she actually supports Donnie and tries to listen, though rarely understands terminology.
Giggles almost everytime boys have an argument (if it’s not very life threatening situation or it’s a real time to be serious)
She likes Raph’s roughness combined with his sweetness. She would totally crochet smth for him.
Leo is the one she shows her new press on nails first. They should totally hit the mall together, even though she will be a lil shy and self-conscious
April is a kind of friend she always wanted, she can tell her about her press on nails with the same interest as about true crime (and learn smth new from April). She would also teach her magic too or escort her somewhere she could learn it.
She has a good developed emotional intelligence but rather from a logical point of view, like “ofc they do not know they’ve hurt u, they’re not u, but if they did it on purpose and u found out about it-ditch them, u deserve better that that”. Also, she’s a crybaby, but hates showing strong emotions like crying in public, cause it makes her feel weak. True crime actually made her more mentally strong.
She tells “failing is okay” to smbd mostly to absorb it herself, because she knows exactly how they feel in this moment and know she has the same problem, she will try to comfort them with the words she would like to hear. But it’s only if she cares for you, otherwise you can jump off a roof and she’ll be like “do a flip”.
She’s an introvert and she needs to “recharge” every once in a while to avoid being overwhelmed. Otherwise she’ll be a real buzzkill.
Totally infodumps boys about serial killers and true crime stuff, Donnie finds it fascinating and takes notes, Mikey listens, a lil concerned. Raph and Leo ARE DEFINATELY CONCERNED.
Greets u with “Supies~” and it irritates Don-Don (that does too)  because it’s not a real word
She hates dancing, because she hates embarrassment. But somehow Donnie takes it personally and insists on dancing lessons from him ofc. She says yes just to het him out of her hair, but he takes it seriously. Somehow it’s fun with him, even though very awkward at first, anf now she even can make other spells that she couldn’t. Oh wow.
eyesight isn’t that great, because of the destruction of the place, alongside with her father’s demise, she got a slight head injury, so now her eyes are +1 and -1.5, but because of the tension her “minus” eye can be more tired, which brings headaches and more work to the “plus” eye,so glasses prevent it from going too bad and stabilise the picture, without them it’s a little blurry.
learns spanish
sings when she’s nervous
slight anger issues
All for now, maybe i’ll remember anything later

The Rise Of The Red Knight (A Tekken fanfic/MiguelxJosie) :
the story was been inspired by Jet Li’s Romeo Must Die and MacBeth (without the tragic deaths of each characters)
The story centers on miguel cabellero rojo, a young man who is the long lost heir of the rojo family (and been hailed as the modern-day royal family in Spain). During the night of the miguel’s 9th birthday as the young miguel witnessed how his parents, two uncles and also his two older brothers died as he left spain, miguel and his youngest sister both then hide in the US while his father’s friends raised them both.
josie missed her childhood friend, his uncle raised her as his own daughter and became a professional government spy.
josie worked as a government spy between the government both in the Philippines and Spain where she has finally tracked down miguel and she realizing it that she reunited with miguel, her childhood friend. josie’s father was a head chief of PNP & her mother was a former member of the Philippine Navy but she currently works as a college teacher in UST where she teaches math, science, essays and martial arts.
they fell in love.
miguel confronts a female killer who has a strong asian descent. he didn’t wanna hurt women but instead he told josie that she should fought her until the lady got killed by Josie’s powerful kick.
miguel and josie worked together as they investigate of who killed his father.
the two had a good time at the disco bar where they confront ‘HABANERO’ as the two fought and they escaped.
josie’s main mission is to track down and kill miguel but instead, she wants revenge for kidnapping her parents.
uncle felix and aunt rosalia came into the scene where they tell everything about heneral felipe.
heneral felipe de leon is the mastermind of the rojo family massacre and miguel was the next in line for the throne of the rojo royal family clan. (Not heneral felipe himself).
miguel confronts his evil uncle named heneral felipe
heneral felipe where he tells him everything while anna williams (his most trusted secretary and hired assassin), she’s holding josie and a gun on the young girl’s forehead.
the two fought (same as his friends and his relatives) until heneral felipe and miguel fought each other until he was laying half-unconscious, he pulls out a gun and he was about to shoot him but josie saves him and he aimed the gun and shot josie three times (in the chest area).
josie laid there and miguel cradling her, he said to him that his younger sister died at the day of his younger sister’s wedding.
josie rizal died (but she pretends to be dead as she used her hand to pat his arm).
the two were seen laughing as she told him that she’s wearing a bulletproof vest.
josie stood up and shoots heneral felipe in the head.
miguel and josie left the place and she asked him “wanna hang out at the party?” “you mean fiesta señora?”
josie was an avid fan of Aaliyah, Selena and some older r&b, metal rock and rap music in the 90’s
josie has a facial features of a mestiza even she was a morena
some black boys mistakenly josie rizal for being aaliyah that she looks abit of aaliyah herself.
after the defeat of heneral felipe, miguel was been hailed as the crown prince of flores de pradera (somewhere in Spain)
the small kingdom of flores de pradera means “meadowy flowers” in Spanish
during their journey on the road, miguel was seen driving on a borrowed taxi cab and josie was as seen seating at the front passenger seat. The morena filipina been teaching him some basic tagalog to miguel meanwhile miguel was seen teaching her some basic spanish.
“I’ll be teaching Tagalog for you Miggy, ‘Magandang Araw, Kamusta Po Kayo?’ It means good morning and how are you? The word ‘po’ is the honorific word for the older people sweetie.”
during their road-trip, Miguel accidentally opens the radio plays a well famous song from the late tejano singer Selena which miguel noticed that Josie was good at singing Selena’s ‘bidi bidi bom bom’ then she said that she was a Selena fan even she was born in 1997. [part two—>]

“You’re a lot better at this than Ron.” Harry said into the phone.
“Well that’s not hard,” Ginny said, not mentioning how she still occasionally picked up the receiver upside down. “Speaking of, he’s started growing a moustache since you left. It’s ghastly.”
“Oi!” Ron’s voice, annoyed, in the background. Harry grinned.
 “Oh yeah?”
“It looks like he’s got biscuit crumbs on his upper lip.” Harry laughed, and Millie glared at him from behind the post office counter, “Oh, lovely, he’s giving me the finger.”
“I’ve started growing a bit of a beard actually.”
 “Come off it.”
 “Feeling left out?” Harry joked
Ginny snorted. “Yes, desperately. Isn’t it hot?”
 “Well I think so.”
She laughed, clear and quick, and Harry could imagine her, all limb, leaning against the kitchen cupboard curling the phone wire around her wrist. He’d bought the phone as a bit of joke before he’d left, and then as a joke she’d installed it, and then for a joke he’d rung her, and then this was how they talked now. Arthur had apparently worn a suit when the electrician came to install the power plug.
“Isn’t it hot though? Bill says Australian summers are killers”
Harry looked at Teddy, sat on the post office floor in nothing but shorts sucking an ice-pop. “I’ve been sunburnt in places I never have been before, but it’s mostly fine.”
 “Wow, sexy.”
“Bet Ron loved hearing you say that to me.”
“I’m sorry Harry, you want to do what to me? Put that where?”
 “Gin-“
“No, we couldn’t in my room, there’s not enough room. Lounge is better, more space. On the dining table.”
Harry could hardly talk. “Stop,” he choked, “He’ll never speak to me again.”
“He left when I said the bit about the lounge, said I was being ‘very immature.’”
  //
Andromeda, desperate to get out, away, gone, bought the land in Australia six months after the war ended. She’d said it was because she’d always liked the heat, but when Harry got there he knew why. He’d never seen anywhere so unlike England, the Australian countryside was all scorched earth, red dirt, dry trees. It could have been a different planet entirely.
He’d followed her six months later to be with Teddy, who at almost a year had hair permanently sunshine yellow, except when it rained it went as grey as concrete. Harry liked the spiders, sand, sunburn of it all. Sometimes, dumbly, he found himself missing sheets of rain, but only when it was so hot he could barely see straight.
Mostly he liked how there was nothing to do there, nowhere he had to be. He was teaching himself how to drive, burying things for Teddy to sniff out (dog nose), going into the tiny town to talk to Ginny on the post office phone, and helping Andromeda build a shed out the back. He’d never used magic less. The days were long and the nights were longer, but it was so different here that that too felt right.
He didn’t know when he’d go home. He kept meaning to set a date and then just didn’t, and then everyone stopped asking. It was stupid, but he felt like he’d know when he was done.
 //
“Dad won’t let me see the phone bill,” Ginny said, picking up on the third ring and not saying hello, “It arrived this morning and he’s been locked in his office all morning with it.”
 “Oh, God, I can-“
“Don’t you dare offer to pay for it. I don’t even think it’s that much, I think he’s just trying to recreate the logo at the top or something.”
 “I-“
“Stop trying to pay for it- “
“I’m not– “ Harry, who had been, was silent. Then: “Gin, please-“
 “No- “
 “But- “
“Shut up-“ she said, unbothered, “Mum asked if you got the stuff she sent.”
“I did, the biscuits were excellent. And the tea bags” Harry had cleaned out the tin so Teddy could use it as a hat, which he had been wearing for two days now.
“I told her they already had tea in Australia but she didn’t believe me.”
 Harry smiled, “I didn’t mind.”
“She said that even if they did have tea they wouldn’t have English Breakfast, or they would call it something crazy like ‘Australian Outback Breakfast’.”
 “How thoughtful of her.”
“Stop being nice about it, it’s ridiculous.”
 “It was nice of her.”
 “Australian Outback Breakfast, Harry”
“I hate tea and hate that it was graciously sent to me by your mum.” Harry obliged.
“There we go. Killed any snakes yet?”
 “Oh yeah, loads. Bears too.”
He could hear her smiling, “Bears, huh?”
 “All in your honour.”
“Naturally. Still no success in seducing Millie?”
Harry looked around to the post office reception desk, a stones-throw away from the phone, to where Millie– middle-aged, cardiganed, glasses– was pretending to read the paper and not hate him.
“Haven’t you heard? Wedding’s in the Spring.”
“Damn. Well, we had it good there for a while but true love always wins.”
He laughed, and Millie gave him a look. He waved. She ignored him and went back to the paper.
 //
Ron sent letters, barely legible, by owls that had to be nursed back to health in the bath.
 Harry,
Sorry for the writing but I’m on the muggle train because we’re going to Ireland for a few days to stay with her Hermione’s Aunt because she’s ‘dying to meet me’ (???). Anyway, Hermione also says to tell you that Ginny is thinking of cutting a fringe, because apparently that’s important. Apparently girls do that in a crisis, or whatever, she’ll write and explain it.
Ginny is basically living at ours now. The other day she put a Hollyhead Harpies poster up in the living room and when I tried to charm it off all the players screaming at me like Sirius’s fucking mum, so I just moved the cabinet in front of it. Bloody nightmare.
Honestly it isn’t even half bad having her around, she knows all these drinking games and set up your room and sometimes has a go reading over Hermione’s policy reports to the Ministry when I’ve sworn off them. Do not tell her I don’t mind her being round she’ll be annoying about it. I’m getting that Harpies poster off the wall.
Hope Teddy is good and everyone is demanding more photos as usual. All Victorie has to do is chew the carpet around here and everyone gets a bit teary, including me. George jinxed Perce’s glasses into binonoulars the other day and for a weird second everything felt like before and Vic giggled and then George looked like he’d been hit the fucking nightbus. I don’t even know how to explain it– kids really just have no idea about any of it.
Hope Andromeda is good and that the driving is going better. Dad’s framing all of the phone bills he gets which Gin probably already mentioned but I can’t tell you how weird it is to go into my old room and it’s just a bunch of framed bills. Hermione says hello which I’ve already written but she said I didn’t make it clear enough.
We miss you mate. Home soon yeah?
Ron
  //
Often, he thought of the week he’d told them he was leaving. Hermione, drunk, talking to Ginny on the patio of the burrow when she thought everyone was inside. It makes sense, really, she’d said, He’s never been anywhere he wasn’t hunted too. Ron had looked at him and then loudly dropped his firewhiskey and the girls had jumped, turned around, stopped talking, but still. He’s never been anywhere he wasn’t hunted too. Huh.
 //
 “How’s driving?”
“Oh, fine. I killed a swan.” Harry said, demoralised. Ginny laughed for a good two minutes.
 “What?”
“I hit the wrong pedal and speed up instead of slowing down. I didn’t know what to do so I just moved it off to the side of the road.”
“Ah, the Boy who Lived strikes again.”
“Stop,” He was smiling, “What if Teddy had seen it?”
“He’s not even two. He probably would have thought it was, like, having a lie down or something.”
Harry was laughing now, “A lie down?”
 “Yeah, a spontaneous, truck-induced–“
 “–Permanent–“
“–Permanent, lie-down. I’m almost jealous now actually.”
 //
Andromeda was in her garden a lot. Getting anything to grow was near impossible, but she wouldn’t stop working at it. She kept saying that soon they’d be able to have a green beans salad, so Harry just drove to a market and stuck a few green beans in the ground to make her laugh. As a sort of joke they’d started calling the land ‘the farm’ even though nothing ever grew here.
They took Teddy to the ocean for the first time and his eyes went blue the second he saw it. The beach where they’d buried Dobby was overcast, water as grey as dishwater, but here the it glittered like glass, blue light come alive. Teddy sat in the shallows, trying to flatten waves with his fists, laughing.
Andromeda sat on a towel by the dunes under an enormous hat, tears running down her face, abruptly laughing when Teddy tried to eat sand or fell over a sandcastle. Harry knew how she felt. Impossible, how two years ago Teddy had two living parents and Harry had been seventeen, dead and walking, and now they were sat on the beach, people they loved dead for real, as Harry and Teddy lined up shells on the shore.
 //
It was three in the morning but Harry snuck in through a backdoor, cloak on, having to jimmy the lock because he forgot his wand. The streets were pitch black, only three streetlights in the whole main street, with two of them not working anyway.
“Why’re you awake?” Ginny said lightning quick, knowing the time difference by heart, and Harry’s chest unlocked. It was stupidly comforting, Ginny’s voice, how she never said hello on the phone because she never learned, how if he really made her laugh she’d hold the receiver away from her, like he wasn’t desperate to hear it.
“I thought I saw Sirius today,” he couldn’t stop himself, “There was a dog on the farm and it was huge and I thought– I forgot he was dead. Isn’t that stupid?”
There was only Ginny’s breath down the phone. Picture: her in the kitchen, gripping the receiver, still. The memory looped in his brain, how Sirius’ name had risen in his throat, how odd it felt there, how long it had been since he’d said it aloud.
“No.” He almost didn’t hear her it’s so quiet, “I went to the shop yesterday and asked Ron if Fred was in the back. I forget too.”
His heart slowed, the memory of the shop: solid and real, running again, made for laughing, rose up, only then he shut his eyes and saw everyone laid out in rows, glassy eyes, and somehow he was walking through the forest again, going to die, but not soon enough–
“Harry.” Ginny’s voice, dragging him back to earth, “You did everything you could. Sirius knew. Everyone knew. No one could have done better.” She sounded so sure, voice as clear as glass, he’d be a fool not to believe her, “It hurts because they loved us. They loved us. That’s the part to remember.”
 //
“You are kidding-!” This time Harry didn’t say hello.
 “I’m sorry, who is this?”
“Harpies reserve!” Harry was yelling in the post office and Millie looked appalled, “They’ll promote you in two weeks, you genius, I knew it– “
“I’m sorry I really have no idea who this is.”
 “I can’t believe you didn’t say anything.”
“I sent the letter!” Ginny dropped the joke, indignant.
“We spoke two days ago! I can’t believe you didn’t tell me then–”
 “–I sent our fastest owl.”
“Marius is currently passed out in the sink–“
Ginny laughed, “I wanted you to get the letter,” she said, finally, “I wanted you to see it. Did you see Madeline McKinnon signed it?”
She sounded like a kid. He grinned. “I did.”
“Best beater this century sent a letter to my house, asking me to be on her team. Madness. The English team are after her you know, it’s all over the Prophet.”
“I hope you’re not expecting me to send the letter back because I think that really will finish Marius off.”
“Please, you think I sent the real thing? Dad made twenty copies. He hung two on Ron and Hermione’s fridge and sent one to Aunty Muriel.”
Harry grinned, “You’re brilliant, I’m hanging my copy on the front door, framed.”
“The moving logo may cause problems for the muggles”
“Who cares? I want to tell everyone about this. Chaser for the Harpies–“
 “I’m a reserve.”
“For now.” He could hear her smile through the phone, “What did everyone say?”
“Ron said I was a traitor and that he was also proud. Mum cried. Hermione promised to actually watch a game, George reminded me about nicking his broom all that time so technically he was also partly on the team, Bill bought a season pass, Charlie hung a giant Harpies poster in his shite apartment and sent a photo, Luna sent me awful flowers that won’t stop smoking, and Percy called to congratulate me on my admission to the ‘Hollygrove Harps.’”
 Harry laughed, “Incredible.”
 “Yeah, Perce’s was particularly heartfelt.”
 //
 Harry,
I’m sat at the dining table and everyone’s still here, but Mum wanted me to recap Charlie’s birthday dinner right now because she doesn’t want you to miss anything. Hermione also agreed with this mental idea.
 Dinner Summary:
Food was good
Hermione tried to explain the electric collage or whatever decides American elections to Dad, it was stupid.
Hermione says it was electoral college not the eccentric cage or whatever I wrote
George got Charlie a life-size model of the Horntail that he almost opened in the house. Mum had a fit.
Dad told a story about how the Muggle Foreign Minister ended up with a bathtub cursed to drown anyone in it.
Ginny wants me to say Percy is wearing a cardigan Millie would be proud of. I do not know what this means. Better not be a sex thing.
Hermione says hello (again she insisted I write this down like it isn’t obvious)
Mum wants me to say we all miss you still (again, obvious)
She also wants to know if you need her to make you any shorts (do not answer this)
Charlie wants to say cheers for the gift – apparently they only do that burn cream in Australia and it’s hard to come by
George doesn’t have anything to say he just wanted to be involved so I’ve written this so he’ll bugger off.
I’m bloody sending this now, I feel like a quick quotes quill (Fleur asks how you are). Have a good one mate.
 Home soon yeah?
Ron.
//
Sometimes, when he was driving home from the post-office just after the sunset, everything sat in the new-dark, he’d remember when he used to be on watch, sat in front of the tent holding Hermione’s wand with everything going wrong, and how only then he’d let himself think about Ginny. Her voice, long laugh, longer legs, telling him to move over, pass the milk, look left, met her later, skip that flashcard, relax, put Luna in as chaser if it all goes arse up– she’s Ravenclaw but I’ll vouch for her. Dumb hours spent on the Quidditch pitch, sun going down, watching her get shot after shot past him like she even needed the practise. C’mon Potter at least try to save these, you’re making Ron look like Wood. Her hair everywhere, laughing, head back, both of them impossibly far from the ground
I really don’t want to die, Harry would think in the dark, wand out, ready for it, I really don’t want to die and miss out on you
 //
 Harry,
Sorry I couldn’t call but everything’s been nuts here and I wasn’t sure when I’d get to talk to you. Malcotti’s fucked her ankle so I may actually get put in for a game?? She’s been told to take it easy for a week and we play the Magpies in four days, so?? I’ll let you know when I can call. I’m currently writing this at the post-office desk and running late for practise.
Sidenote: this express owl cost me four galleons so I hope it does a dance on its arrival or at least arrives within the day. Tell Andromeda hello and that I’m still rooting for the green beans. Also, good luck for the driving test!! I’m sure you won’t hit anything living or dead and/or drive into a lake, but also if you do just confund the instructor. I solemnly swear not to tell Hermione.
Thinking of you. Kiss Teddy for me,
Gin
 //
The click of the receiver: “I only have five minutes, we’re about to eat.”
 Harry smiled, “How’s home?”
“Absolutely nothing to note. Victorie threw up on Bill yesterday, so that was a joy.”
 “Supportive as usual.”
“Hey, I am supportive.” Harry could tell the phone was jammed between her shoulder and her ear, heard a knife on a cutting board, “Supportive of Victorie’s right to throw up on Bill whenever she wants.”
 “Are you cooking?”
“I’m cutting potatoes by hand to avoid the lounge because Fleur and Mum are talking about how to discipline children.”
 “Sounds tense.”
“You don’t know the half of it. Ron had to pretend to be on the phone with you earlier for ten minutes just to get out of there. He says hi– fuck!”
Harry heard the phone fall, “Ginny?”
A scrambling on the other end, distantly: “You’re bleeding on the potatoes!”
“Hi,” Ginny’s voice, a little breathless, “I cut myself.”
 “You alright?” Harry asked, quick-shot.
“Oh, yeah. Just blood. Admirably everyone is showing a lot of concern” (Percy’s voice, distant and mournfully, “well there’s no way we can eat these now”)
 //
He thought about going home sometimes, about the flat with Ron and Hermione he was currently paying for that he’d never lived in, what he’d do back in England. No one had ever come out to visit him here, some unspoken agreement they’d all made to give him space. Except, knowing Ron and Hermione and Mrs Weasley and he’s never been anywhere he wasn’t hunted to it probably was very much spoken, it’s just he wasn’t there for it.
The thing is, if he went home that meant no more seeing Teddy every day, sitting around eating cereal, watching him walk into walls or turn his nails pink, giving him ice cream for lunch and strap him into the truck, driving around the farm doing spins just to make him laugh. Even after all this time Australia was so far from the familiar, every night him and Andromeda sat on the deck lazily casting cooling charms, looking at all the stars.
On full moons Teddy got in bed with all the curtains open, blinds up, just to look at the moon. He couldn’t sleep unless he saw it. Harry wondered if he ever did anything like that, got pulled towards something of his parents without realising it. Quidditch, probably. Looking for something without knowing, not sure what you were really missing. Teddy’s huge eyes, the moon, and that familiar feeling: Stop, wait, I can’t believe I’ll never see you again. Come back, I wasn’t done yet. I don’t know how to do it without you.
 //
It was pitch-black, four in the morning Queensland time, but it had been the only time she’d had free. Harry was leaning against the booth wall, letting the cloak slip, exhausted. Ginny cleared her throat in an odd way.
“So, you know I hate asking about this. It makes me– I don’t want to be that person” She sounded, wrong, uncomfortable, like white knuckles gripping the receiver, “But everyone’s been asking and I want– when do you think you’ll be coming home?”
Harry was quiet. All this time away– almost a year, eleven months, it occurred to him– and she’d never asked. She was the only one who hadn’t. “Oh, I don’t know. Soon, I guess.”
“Yeah.” She said, unreadable. A beat went past, and Harry could feel the shift, how that was the wrong thing. He could hear her breathing. “Do you want– if you want, we could take a break-“
“No” Harry said, so fast, “No, no I don’t want that. Do you want that?”
“No. No. I just– I don’t want this to be difficult. I don’t want you to feel, like– obligated. If you want like room away from everything I get it. Just tell me– I don’t want– Just tell me.”
Harry’s heart was going into his chest like an endlessly slamming door. How to explain it? You wouldn’t believe the space here, all this room, all this time I have. I didn’t think I’d get it. I want space but never from you.
“I’m not with you because I feel obligated. I’m– That isn’t how I feel. I don’t want space or a break or anything.”
Silence, endless, pouring down the phone. He could be sick. Then, Ginny’s voice: “Okay.”
“I’m coming back to England, Gin. I’m coming back, just, when I’m– when I’m done. I’m coming home. Soon.”
“Okay. I just wanted to make sure that this– that this is still good.”
“It is.” He was so stupid. A war ends and everything finally works out, everyone safe for real, and he goes running to the other side of the world and doesn’t say when he’s coming home. Ginny, at home, getting a phone wired up just to call him. He had no luck for seventeen years and then it all came at once, and now he doesn’t know what to do with it.
“I love you,” he said, which he never said because it felt heavy, full of gravity, and he spent all his time trying to make her laugh.
Deep breath. He could hear her shoulders unknotting through the phone. “I love you too.”
 //
 “Harry?”
 “Ron?”
“Can you hear me? Is this?– how do I know if this is on?”
“It’s on,” Harry said, hurriedly, “Is everything alright?”
“I tried to give Pig a letter for you this morning and he bit me and flew into the window.” Harry started laughing, “So I thought I’d try give him a break.”
Harry pulled himself together, “Yeah maybe that’s for the best. How are you?”
“Oh, the usual. The shop is still nuts so Hermione stopped by to help out on Saturday and ate half a Bile Biscuit thinking it was shortbread– hilarious. George threatened to charge her. If Ginny’s not at a practise she’s at our place drinking all the milk, and Luna came by the other day and threw all the stuff in the fridge out because she said it was infected with ‘Mimilice’. You?”
“The same. Teddy turned his leg into the end of a snake the other day and I had a fit. Andromeda put him in the sink so he couldn’t slither away before phasing back. It’s currently 39 degrees.” Ron laughed.
“God, even your voice sounds hot.”
“Woah, mate. I’m seeing someone and so are you.”
“Ha ha.” Ron said sarcastically, “I wish I could turn this up so everyone in the empty living room could have heard that.”
“Please don’t try to use the speaker phone, you’ll accidentally dial the embassy or something.”
“’Speaker phone’? What could the phone have to say?”
  //
Teddy turned two and Andromeda make him a cake by hand with a spider on it that moved. He blew out the candles and looked bemused, sat in a top Hermione had sent, still holding onto a scrap of ribbon. Harry took him outside and sat him on his Nimbus Seven Series, entirely too long, and Teddy did slow circles while Harry held the end, watching him laugh, tiny hands grasping the handle. Suddenly, like being thrown through a window, Remus was in front of him, standing in the Hogwarts Hallway, breathless and happy, saying his sons name.
 //
The post office has been closing for a good fifteen minutes, but Harry brought the cloak, pretended to leave, then snuck back and picked up the phone again.
 “I think I just saw Millie’s husband.”
 “You’re kidding.”
“A guy came to pick her up, he had a hat on, she got in the front seat–“
 “What kind of hat?”
 “I don’t know, normal. Like a normal old-person hat.”
“You didn’t say he was old.”
Harry grinned, “You really thought Millie seemed the type to be with a 25-year-old?”
“Hey, you’re going out with me after all–“
Harry spluttered, “I’m a year older!”
 “Year and a half–“
“You’re unbelievable. That is not the same.”
“Just because you like younger women–“
“I don’t like younger women, I like you, or I did until a few minutes ago. I’m now reconsidering.”
“You like me.” Ginny said, not really serious but also deadly so.
Harry smiled, said dryly, “What gave me away?”
 //
Harry had started dreaming of home, the staring in the street, dishes washing themselves in the Burrow, Hogwarts lake dark and silky as eels. He couldn’t tell what had brought this on, only that he was now driving into town every day to talk to Ginny, and now Ron, Hermione, even Neville were coming to the phone.
“They miss you” Andromeda said, unprompted, drinking muggle wine on the deck one night after dinner, “Molly wrote last week asking if you mentioned when you’d be coming back.”
“Oh,” Harry said, because he couldn’t think of anything else. “Do you think you’ll come back?”
The question hung between them. Terrible thought: Teddy never back in England, Teddy growing up where Harry couldn’t see him.
“I will.” She looked back at him, unbearably, and it was everything that went unsaid.
 “How?” Harry asked, unthinking.
Andromeda looked back out the window, the pressing dark, the unbearable heat. Even after all this time, making dinner, sitting on the dark deck, weeding the garden, she was still unreadable. Grief undid you in layers.
“Because Nymphadora would want me to.” She said, simply. “Because I want her to think I’m brave.”
 //
The post office shuts for a week because Millie goes out of town, and the place is small enough that that means it’s not open till she gets back. Harry makes it four days before apparating hundreds of miles away, almost splinching himself in the heat, dizzy from lack of practise, and stumbling to a payphone at the side of a highway.
Click. “Didn’t expect to hear from you so soon.”
“Yeah, I went out of town to call.”
“Out of town huh? Miss me that much?” Ginny’s voice, joking.
Unbelievably, Harry thought. “Yeah well, Teddy isn’t much of a conversationalist.”
“Don’t let him hear you say that, you’ll knock his confidence.”
“He’ll get past it. How are you?”
“Fine. Well– actually, you won’t believe what happened at practise on Thursday, I hope you’re sitting down–“
 “I’m not–” Harry grinned
“Squat then,” Ginny said blithely, “because Jacqueline has actually gone full bonkers–“
 //
“My parents say its incredible “ Hermione’s voice, the only person in his life who spoke in a normal tone on the phone
.
“Yeah, we’ve been actually.” Harry didn’t have the heart to tell her that Teddy had found the Great Ocean Road blindingly boring and had only made it an hour in before him and Andromeda had decided it wasn’t worth the screaming anymore.
“Yeah, Mum and Dad were thinking of coming down, doing it again.”
 Harry played along, “Yeah?”
“Yeah.” She was endearingly fake-casual, “Maybe Ron and I would come too.”
“Ron wants to drive 150 miles along a stretch of boring road with your parents?”
“You didn’t say it was boring.”
“Slip of the tongue,” Harry smiled, “What about the Ministry? And the shop?”
 “We’re thinking about doing travelling.”
“The year we spent in a tent in various country-sides not enough?”
“Funnily enough seeing the sights wasn’t top of mind then.”
Harry smiled darkly, “If we’re going travelling let’s do Italy, or America, or something. Soon. Somewhere none of us have ever been.”
Hermione left it a beat too long for it to be a normal silence, “I heard Italy is beautiful, the history there is incredible…”
Harry could almost hear talking to Ron later: “and then he said if we’re going travelling, ‘we’re’, Ron! And ‘soon’! he thinks he’ll be travelling with us ‘soon’!. And Ron, “so you didn’t ask when he’s coming back then?, and then Hermione: “didn’t you hear? soon! He said soon!”
 //
He was walking back to the car from the post office one day, Teddy plodding beside him infatuated with a passing goose, with Ginny’s voice still swimming around him, the sound of Ron telling her to shut up, pass the receiver, I’ve got to tell him the Cannons score, and he walked into the travel agents and booked one-way ticket to England for next week. Just like that.
Stupid, really, how he heard their voices all the time (walking in the street, making a sandwich, fixing the plumbing) but had never made the connection. He was in the street like always, hearing the call all again, and thought I wish they were here for real, and then walked into the air-conditioning and pulled out his chequebook. It really was that easy. The goose was still outside when he left holding his ticket, Teddy squirming to get closer to it with a full-on beak that Harry was trying to hide with one hand.
Home soon Harry thought the whole drive home, the thought expanding in his chest, the window open, his hair blowing everywhere– longer than it had ever been. Even when he got back to the farm, told Andromeda (who promised to follow in a year), made dinner, went to bed, he imagined he would feel different. Something huge and unfelt before, but really everything was the the same as ever. He just missed them, is all. He was learning that sometimes love really was that simple, that it was reason enough.
 //
“I read that people sometimes make signs at airports.”
Harry smiled, phone cord wrapped around his palm. “Saying what?”
 “Guess you’ll find out tomorrow.”
 “Oh, God.”
“Don’t worry, no magic involved. We don’t want to alarm the muggles. Luna asked if she could bring her lion hat but Hermione got intervened.”
 “Luna’s coming?”
“Yes, duh. Everyone is. It’s been a year a half.”
Harry, who had had visions of kissing Ginny ridiculously for an hour in front of the plane, adjusted his expectations.
Ginny, as usual, reading his mind: “Don’t worry. I’ve briefed Ron that I’ll still be kissing you senseless so he had better start getting over it.”
Harry grinned, “Bet he loved that.”
“He called me a cocksucker, and then I pointed out that actually I hadn’t been in a year and a half–“
 “Gin!”
“–and he said my name exactly like that, yeah.”
Harry couldn’t stop laughing, bright red in the post office for the last time as Millie shushed him, “You are unbelievable.”
“Well, believe me.” she said, dryly, “I’ll be seeing you in 29 hours.”
Harry, also counting, ducked his head, grinning. It turned out all his best luck was waiting at this part of his life, who knew. Thank God, Thank God, Thank God.
“I’m going to be totally unusable, you know. The flight’s twenty-one hours.”
“Yeah, you’re an idiot. I know you’re on a whole no-magic kick but this really is the limit. What are you going to eat?”
“Hermione says they serve eggs and stuff.”
 “Wow, really? How?”
Harry considered. “I actually have no idea. Maybe please bring some chips or something to the airport.”
Ginny laughed, the best sound in the world, “Only if you bring me some eggs.”

WOWM
so What Once Was Mine came out and I read it.
My General Thoughts are that this book was something of a rollercoaster but in like a pop up carnival with dubious safety regulations and diseases in the DIY log flume water kind of way. I had some fun reading it but I also feel like I picked up a rash.
If you're like me and you enjoy picking a book apart for morsels of interesting concepts then you might enjoy it, if you think holy shit why the fuck is a literal real historical serial killer in this book I need to see this then you might enjoy it, if you care about engaging plots and character beats then you probably won't.
If you want to ask me anything specific go ahead, but otherwise for more in depth thoughts: spoilers ahead
Basic Summary of the Plot
Okay so here's the deal. The story has the framing device of two siblings in a cancer ward, where one tells the other a story. I'll get into that later, but that's how it starts. Our actual story starts with a pretty long prologue: We learn that the King & Queen got the Moonflower thinking it was the Sunflower, Rapunzel was born with silver hair, and then baby Rapunzel kills a maid who accidentally hurt her when brushing her hair.
Oh, by the way, Max is a human man named Justin Tregsburg. Yeah.
Anyway, the royal family puts out feelers for legit witches who can safely take care of Rapunzel because the baby is too dangerous, and Gothel shows up to take her away. Queen Arianna visits Rapunzel once (but is only allowed to watch through a peephole) and decides watching another woman raise her child is too painful and throws herself into restoring the kingdom's orphanages instead.
Now we're in the present. Rapunzel is nineteen and she wants to go and see the lanterns (a mourning tradition of the Dead princess in this story). She tries to argue with Gothel but gets shut down, and Gothel makes her kill a chicken to prove the point that she can't go outside because she's too dangerous. However we as the audience already know Gothel plans to sell Rapunzel off as a bride or a servant or a weapon to some other nobles, because she's evil.
Also by the way Gothel still has access to our Sundrop Flower and is using it to live forever that's just a thing that happens in the background.
When Gothel is gone Rapunzel watches as a man (Flynn) stores a satchel in a tree outside of her tower, and that motivates her to leave the tower for the first time. Then she goes back inside the tower with her prize of a crown, and a skink she found and named Pascal. Rapunezl and Gothel have another spat, and Rapunzel decides she will run off to see the lanterns and she will find Flynn and make him her guide.
She ends up at the Snuggly Duckling and she doesn't find Flynn but she does find Gina, a young career criminal girl looking to break the glass ceiling. Gina agrees to help her find Flynn. They find Flynn, and he agrees to help guide Rapunzel to see the floating lanterns for a split reward of the crown with Gina.
The Snuggly Duckling gets burned down by Countess Bathory (yes that Elizabeth Bathory) and the Pub Thugs are pissed about it and also they're helping Rapunzel even though she didn't sing the I've Got A Dream song don't worry about it. We learn that the nobles that wanted to buy Rapunzel are now hunting her down so she can go to auction.
Gina takes them to her adopted mother's cottage. Gina's mother is a white witch, who goes by the name of Goodwife. She doesn't get an actual name she's just The Goodwife. Anyhow, the cottage is a magic safe space (for now) and Goodwife teaches Rapunzel that her hair isn't inherently evil and may not even be all that deadly! Rapunzel learns that her hair has other powers too, like the ability to turn skink Pascal into a sentient Chameleon. Yeah.
Also Goodwife tells Rapunzel she's the dead princess but this isn't like, an immediate call to action. Not a lot happens until we get this story's version of the Mother Knows Best Reprise where Gothel finds Rapunzel again but has to flee, but this Rapunzel has a bigger support network and isn't buying it. Flynn and Gina decide the safest course of action is to bring Rapunzel to the castle, but along the way she gets kidnapped by the Countess.
Gothel is pissed because she still wants the money for Rapunzel, so she rallies the armies of all the opposing bidders. Flynn and Gina convince Max the Man to send for his troops, and he joins them in going to the enemy castle. Flynn tries to sneak in, gets caught, and meanwhile there's a bloody battle out the front between the noble armies. Max jumps into the fray, Gina turns around and rallies the Pub Thugs.
Rapunzel uses her shrinking magic (!) to disappear half the castle and escape with Eugene, and the Pub Thugs arrive and basically end the battle. The Captain is dying but it's okay! Rapunzel turns him into a horse :) Also Rapunzel sees Gothel and tells her to fuck off.
The story ends with a tearful reunion between Rapunzel and her parents, Eugene and Gina are implied to be biological siblings, and things are good but of course in direct parallel to Cass Gina leaves at the end to become an adventurer. The end.
(There are a few other smaller plot beats, but you get the idea.)
MY THOTS
So here are my thoughts™.
Framing Device
I'll just state that I didn't like that the story was told via the vehicle of an older brother telling his 16 year old sister a different version of the Tangled Movie in a cancer ward. From what I've heard it also isn't normal for the Twisted Tales series to use a framing device for the AUs either.
I sympathise with the author's personal story, of course I do. That doesn't mean I'm stirred with compassion every time the flow of the story is interrupted to remind you to be sad because this is a story being told to a girl sick with cancer. It feels more than a little tragedy-porny rather than emotionally touching, and maybe that's because I'm too burnt out on real life tragedy to waste emotional energy on fictional cancer patients but we don't need to do Fault In Our Stars discourse again.
Real World References
This story goes heavy with Real World references. And another issue with the framing device as above is that you do feel like this is a story being told by someone namedropping every historical figure they know which makes it harder to get into the story.
There's like... a lot of references to Christianity, particularly in the prologue. There's a priest that thinks Rapunzel's hair is the work of the Devil or whatever. It's a lot. The Patriarchy is a thing. And that's not even getting into the Countess. I put it very succinctly in my notes so I'll paste it here:
I wish she’d just been an OC who could exist to chew scenery because the fact that she was a literal historical serial killer is super. Off putting. Like, she could have been an obvious reference to Bathory, but it feels like Miku Binder Hamilton levels of uncomfortable to me.
I miss Lady D.
Which basically sums up my problem with trying to take the setting of Tangled and put it somewhere in the Real World and somewhere on the Timeline. Who thought this was a good idea.
Misc. Thoughts
So, I used the five highlighter colours my ipad allows to organise my thoughts and organised them accordingly: Yellow for out of place IRL references, Blue for worldbuilding/character points that aren't plot relevant but still interesting, Pink for when something I find personally amusing happens, Purple for when the story feels like it's trying to 1-up the movie in some kind of way and Green for Heterosexual Nonsense. I'll touch on those last two in the Character sections but be prepared.
Also: for a book about giving Rapunzel killer hair, her hair isn't very dangerous. I wanted to see Rapunzel kill someone, and I'm disappointed that I didn't.
Characters
I'll do a deep dive into my thoughts about the characters before wrapping it up. I'm starting with Gina because she's honestly the easiest to get through.
Gina
Gina is a new character introduced for the story. She's a young woman trying to make it as a career criminal but keeps hitting that glass ceiling. So here's the down low, for all those who want to know: Gina is basically Cass, only not really. She's implied to be Eugene's biological sister, as previously mentioned, but you can imagine she's Cass the entire way through without breaking your immersion because if you imagined Cass if she were adopted by a Goodwitch rather than the Captain and had a looser, more wilderness survivor than trainee guard upbringing then you get Gina.
I liked Gina! I think she's fun as her own character too, and her best moments are when she's interacting with her mother Goody Goodwife, and she of course picks up a natural sibling rivalry with Eugene, but I was disappointed with how little she really bonded with Rapunzel because she needed to make room for Eugene and Rapunzel's romance.
Rapunzel
Okay, here's our protagonist. There's a notable effort to make Rapunzel more active in her destiny and whatever, and sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't. I was worried they'd try to go full butt-kicking girlboss with her but I was pleasantly surprised that Rapunzel was pretty useless in most scenes, genuinely love to see it.
With a more intimate look into Rapunzel's psyche through the medium of prose, we see Rapunzel really questioning Gothel's behaviour even before she leaves the tower, and while I appreciate that she can develop her own cynicism I feel it starts unnecessarily early. This is my purple colour; the movie needs to be "fixed" by showing the readers that this Rapunzel is quicker to distrust Gothel. She's also quicker to hatch a plan to go outside of the tower on her own, and she makes a plan to make Flynn her guide for the lanterns even though he never stumbles upon her in the tower- and even though she has a perfectly rational reason not to trust him which is that he is a stranger and a Wanted Thief.
In the moments where it does work is when Rapunzel is surrounded by her new support network: Flynn, Goodwife and Gina, who encourage her to question Gothel's sincerity, and Rapunzel comes up with her own defences for Gothel so that she can poke through them herself.
I have some other thoughts about Rapunzel's hair and her powers, like how the story provides the interesting concept that her hair gets different powers with the different phases of the moon, but a lot of the powers are uhhh stupid and also I feel like it really robs the story of the whole gripping conflict of "Yes I'm Rapunzel Yes my hair kills people what of it".
In as far as just Rapunzel herself though, she still felt pretty in character nonetheless, and maybe that's all I can ask.
Flynn Rider / Eugene Fitzherbert
My boy I am so sorry. They neutered my boy.
Long story short: Eugene in this story is the sexy lamp. He contributes nothing to the plot except to be there for Rapunzel to drool over. And of course because he won't get any character development, he starts from the very beginning as a sweet soft boi with none of the Flynn Rider characterisation from the movie because we don't have time for that, he needs to be husband material stat.
His whole character is the colour green for Heterosexual Nonsense.
So, here's the problem. In the movie, there's not a lot of time for ~friendship~ between Rapunzel and Eugene because they kind of immediately see each other as a romantic prospect. And whatever, it's a movie and there's only so much time. But this book had the opportunity to take things a bit slower and instead chooses to make Rapunzel get jealous whenever Eugene and Gina interact and for her to be constantly wishing he was holding her hand.
Say what you will about Lost Lagoon, but it tells a good romance story just by virtue of not intending to be a romance story, because the author is trying to convey a strong bond between Rapunzel and Cassandra without using "and they kiss" as a cheatcode. What Once Was Mine says "he was a boy, she was a girl, could it be any more obvious?" and leaves it at that.
Now as for how this all pertains to Eugene's character? Well, it just robs him of any flavour. In the movie there's a clear distinction between Flynn and Eugene, when we learn Eugene's real name about halfway through. We see a clear difference between the Flynn we knew- kind of an asshole, wanated to drop Rapunzel off at the Snuggly Duckling and get rid of her- and Eugene, who is sincere and chooses Rapunzel as his New Dream in opposition to his Old Dream of living alone on an island with a bunch of money.
This version of Eugene is basically Eugene all the way through, because the plot doesn't really need Eugene there but he has to be there because it's a Tangled AU so there's no Rapunzel rescuing Flynn from the guards and healing his hand scene, he just loves her immediately and that's that. They have a little spat at one point but it's cleared up later and not because they actually communicate but because they kiss.
Rapunzel only learns Eugene's real name at the very end of the story, and gives a speech about how Eugene is the real him, but it's just so flat because 'Flynn' has been sincere this whole time? Anyway he does nothing of value for the entire story except be there for Rapunzel to lust after. Eugene I'm so sorry.
Gothel
Gothel's sort of the Big Bad and is characterised as an abusive asshole, the usual. I wish there were a bit more nuance to her character but then again in this story she's not just being passively evil- taking care of Rapunzel for selfish reasons but nevertheless maintaining the status quo- she's being actively evil in trying to sell Rapunzel off.
It's notably funny that Gothel sees the Countess Bathory and is like "what the fuck".
Anyway Gothel in this story also feels very weak in part because this Rapunzel is more critical and in part because this Rapunzel has a new support network. It's for that reason the Mother Knows Best Reprise scene doesn't really work, because the original has Gothel pit Rapunzel against Eugene, whereas she can't do that here so it remains a Gothel vs Rapunzel thing.
She gets a boring death as an epilogue addendum that someone rips out the Sundrop flower, which tbh? lame. It would be a lot more fun if it were open ended but I am also preferential to Rapunzel actually using her killer hair to kill someone. Please
Captain Justin Tregsburg
It's Max. He was a human but then he got turned into a horse. what the fuck you guys

one thing that bugs me within HZD fandom—or at least in a lot of reddit threads and the occasional tumblr note—is how the discussion of Aloy as the chosen one because of the circumstances of her birth always gets reframed around [REDACTED] in a way that discredits Aloy.
I do love the “hero is a rando” stories as much as the next person, but what I like about HZD is that it sets up Aloy to be some incredible savior and then it turns out... well, she might do cool things, but she’s kind of a jerk, actually! and she has every right to not want to help most people when she’s been hurt and mistreated by them for all of her young life.
Aloy is a hero, yes, but not because of her birth, but because she chooses to be one. and it’s a hard choice for her, because her natural inclination is to help herself—which is an understandable trait now that she is old enough to try to give herself what she was denied for nearly twenty years—and I like that they keep stressing that.
now that we’re under the cut I’m gonna talk spoilers.
Aloy is a great fighter and impressive machine-hunter and she is very smart, but that’s not because she’s Elisabet’s clone, but because she had to develop those skills to survive. every part about her personality and skillset can really be attributed to a few key elements about her: being an outcast and shunned and judged for something out of her control, growing up in the wilds in a world full of dangerous machines, not being raised with any sense of family or friends or community, and her feelings of loneliness. everything about her personality and abilities has a tie back to one or several of those things, either as a way to explain them, or overcome them. those were things Aloy did because she chose to chase the mystery of her past, but her Elisabet genes didn’t do them for her.
so it really does bug me when people talk about it as if it’s Elisabet’s acumen that should be given credit when we talk about why Aloy is the hero of her own story. I think we are far enough as a culture that we can acknowledge nurture plays a much bigger role in someone’s personality than nature, even for clones. (and I think this is why the Lightkeeper Protocol was doomed to fail anyway.) I think GAIA, when awake, may eventually struggle with this initially, calling her Elisabet instead of Aloy because it’s Elisabet she misses and wants to see again, and she doesn’t know Aloy at all—but she is an AI, and can adapt quickly.
but why I think it bothers me so much is that this “she’s a natural hero” narrative goes against Rost’s last lesson that he teaches Aloy in the prologue. Aloy’s flaws are that she is selfish and often self-centered, and doesn’t rely a lot on others, often to the point of discrediting their abilities. she barges into the Hunters Lodge and demands Talanah take her on as a thrush based on her own assumption that she’s as good a hunter, if not better, than most of the people in the building. she says “I’m faster on my own” to Erend’s incredulity, implying others would just slow her down. they’re completely understandable foibles for someone who has been alone and shunned by the world her entire life and learned to survive because of it.
but Aloy isn’t strong or smart or brave because she was a clone of Elisabet. she could have walked away from seeking revenge against the Eclipse, and arguably, she might have even done it if she hadn’t had a personal interest in the matter: finding out who Elisabet was. Sylens even calls her out multiple times for her short-sightedness in focusing on “what happened to Elisabet?” instead of "what happened to the world?” (I think in ELEUTHIA-9 she says something like "This is interesting, but it's not why I'm here though" and Sylens says sarcastically "Right, what's the whole of human history compared to the origins of one girl?")
again: it’s completely understandable that the girl raised with no family is looking for, y’know, her family, but I think it’s also a pointed choice by the writers: Aloy doesn’t really feel like she belongs to a tribe, so she feels, in some sense, that she has nothing to lose by antagonizing and refusing help to anyone. what are they going to do, banish her? her one lifeline is Rost: it’s her love for him, and his last act of sacrifice for her, that propels her self-centered (though by no means wrong) desire of “I need to find where I came from” to “these people are killers who threaten what I believe in,” and “they will kill again, and even if they will hurt the people who hurt me, many of whom I still dislike, I must do my best to stop them.”
the biggest scene that shows her laser focus on her own interests to the extent of others’ is when Erend asks her for help tracking Ersa’s killer and she denies him without the player's input. I thought that was an interesting choice because the game is canonically telling us that Aloy will barge her way past allies to get what she wants, and she will not be nice about it. like, Erend, a man grieving, tries to get her to stop for two seconds to hear out his ask for help, and she says “Out of the way” and “That’s your war, not mine.” Normally games might give you a choice to say yes or no to helping an ally, even if the game will eventually force you help them to progress the story; but the writers made a choice to show her denying a friend help, just after he helped her. It shows she’s still at the point in her journey where she sees others either as allies to help her or as foes in her way, and she might help allies if she makes time for it on her own (side quests), but when she's impatient and picks up the scent of her prey, she’s willing to ignore others’ needs.
it’s honestly debatable if she would have even cared so much about seeking revenge against the Eclipse if Helis hadn’t killed Rost: certainly she may have been interested in seeing them punished for their ambush against a bunch of Nora teenagers, but she mentions Rost the most consistently when she talks about tracking down Helis, not even Vala or the other Braves (RIP). even to Sylens, who didn’t know any of them, she says “You [didn’t say you knew the man] who killed my... who almost killed me.” (also, sob forever that Aloy still can’t call him her dad even after he’s dead, only “the man who raised her.” Rost really did not teach her to ever call him “Dad.” it’s no wonder why she was so focused on finding at least one parent, a mother, who is centered throughout Nora culture.) but the Nora ambush, while a factor, is still kind of... a side thing. she is most interested in their connection to this mysterious woman-who-might-be-her-mother, and the mystery of why they tried to kill her. people just assume that she is after them out of vengeance for the Nora, and she does not correct them as she uses her Seeker title to explore her own interests.
and speaking of Sylens, I think they are great foils for each other just for this reason: Aloy immediately senses there’s something she doesn’t like about him from basically the moment he makes contact. he’s prickly, arrogant, impatient, unsympathetic, and hates to play nice or work as a team. but like... are they really all that different? I think that Aloy sees Sylens in her future if she doesn’t learn to get along with people. like Aloy, Sylens is definitely rude to you, but I hope you realize you, too, are also pretty rude to others as well! (though you could argue this is a game mechanic so she can ask the questions that the player might be wondering.)
this is not all to say that she’s dispassionate or uncaring, or that her mission isn’t sympathetic or understandable. she helps people out, but her goal driving the story, her True North in a way, is really her own interest to find out who she is and where she came from. one of the significant moments she grows in this regard is when she comes out of ELEUTHIA-9 and decides to fight for the Nora, and for the entire world. she just discovered the truth of her birth isn't what she wanted, and she even thinks afterwards that she’s “not a person, just an instrument.” she’s devastated. what on earth does it mean, that she’s a “recreation” of Elisabet? they don’t have words for “clone” in her world—she thinks it means she’s literally not a human being. she doesn’t want a grand destiny to save the world, she just wants to find her mother and have that sense of belonging she was denied for so long, and she didn’t find that—turns out, she never had that. and now she’s being expected to take on this huge burden about restoring GAIA and fighting subfunctions that she doesn’t understand. both of her “mothers" are dead and there are a bunch of people waiting outside the bunker for her to tell them what their goddess is saying.
so when she walks out of that bunker and sees a bunch of scared, hopeful faces looking at her for answers, her decision to fight HADES—not just on behalf of GAIA but on behalf of the Nora and Carja and Oseram and all others—is her accepting that even though she isn’t what she thought and didn’t get what she wanted, she needs to help others because she is a still part of this world and can make a difference. that’s what makes her heroic. her hero-worship of Elisabet is understandable, but it’s not what’s going to get her through the next challenges in her life—only her own growth and commitment to doing good will do that.
when she tells Rost “if I’m going to fight for something, it’s going to be something I believe in,” I think that was her saying “I’ll fight for that something, but if I find it, I think I’ll end up finding it on my own, and it won’t be with the Nora.” at that time in her journey, she was running the Proving to get something for herself, not to serve the Nora, which she would have been expected to do normally if she had successfully completed it. but she does find something to believe in, and it is with the Nora, both physically in the mountain, and in the spirit of any community: it’s not Elisabet herself, like she thought, but it is what Elisabet stood for, and died for. she may not fully understand what GAIA or the subfunctions are yet, but she knows that their survival and mutual cooperation are necessary for the betterment of people now and civilizations everywhere. she isn’t really fighting for Elisabet or the Old Ones, or I don’t think so, at least—I think it is a factor to do all of this in Elisabet’s memory, in some way, but mostly I think she’s fighting for people alive today. it’s the same conclusion Elisabet came to: the Old Ones are doomed, but people of the future might still have a chance, and that chance is worth her dedication.
but how how a lonely girl ends up fighting to save the world when she barely understands it or the people in it, is an interesting challenge. for this reason I also expect to see her faults in full display in the sequels. Aloy’s tactlessness is a big flaw of hers when it comes to her dismissiveness and occasional derision toward any religion/cultural traditions she doesn’t understand or value. she works through this in some way over the course of the story, like when she decides to spare the Nora the truth of their goddess with an easy lie after leaving ELEUTHIA-9, but particularly in the DLC (which can take place at any point in the story), she challenges a werak to become the chieftan of a tribe she knows very little about, just to get something for herself: she wants to further her goal of investigating AI. I expect this trait of hers will be something we see more of in future games, her barging into a community she doesn’t know anything about and telling them how to do things for their own good. (I call it the “Solas Problem” from Dragon Age Inquisition.) she might be right most of the time, but she also needs to learn how to talk to the people she’s trying to save, and learn how to save them without changing who they are.

Pamela Isley (Friend)
Jim Gordon (Very rocky friendship; He would jail her if given the chance.)
Background:
Sona grew up in normal comfort for the first ten years of her life. The daughter of a low tier mafia henchmen, who ran a red light district building by the name of the "Bucking Bronco" where anyone could get their rocks off for the night, for a price. Her father was a man by the name of Jeorge King.
She was spoiled rotten, but never seemed to quite understand that she was. Clothes, toys, treats, and the like were given to her freely, even by men and women her father worked with. She was happy.
However, one day it all changed. She became ill.
Everyone at birth is scanned in this universe. When you are, it's determined what insurances will cover you, what surgery will be allowed to you, and how expensive treatment costs would be. Sona had contracted an easily curable illness, however her scans at birth showed that she stood a 5% chance of contracting said illness. Treatment was expensive, her father's insurance wouldn't cover the cost, and he began to seek out ways to get money to cover it.
This was the first step into a dark era.
Her father began stealing money behind his boss's back, trying to hit up places that wasn't on the list, and even began selling drugs and illegal weaponry to rival gangs.
One night when Sona was asleep, she awoke to gunshots in her living room. Scared the, now thirteen year old, girl walked down the hall and into the room to see three men in black over her fathers body, a bullet through his head. She held in her scream, her voice a whimper between her fingers. But their ears were sharp, and their voices like venom.
"Hey there little girl," one purred, advancing on the young girl who could only cry, "It's okay... I'm not gonna hurt you... okay well, that's a lie... you see your father's been very, very naughty~ Which means you have just as much to pay for as he does, you know? No hard feelings~"
That night the screams that ebbed from her lips were muffled by the rough assault of her intruders. It ended with a bullet to her gut, in hopes she would suffer as a final 'fuck you' to the King line.
As she lay in a mess of blood, sweat and tears, she choked back her whimpers. It wasn't fair. None of it was fair!
She got up, shaking on her hands and knees, crawling over to her father's corpse. She shook him, desperately trying to wake him, but to no avail. She shook harder.
"Please! Please.... dad, wake up! Please.... I... I need you... I can't.... I can't breath..." she felt blood in the back of her throat, but she refused to die. She had to live. She had to!
The memory is a blur, but that day she was rescued by a young man. A police officer of all things. Peter Gordon. She was alone. She had a decent amount of wealth left behind by her father, an inheritance of sorts. she had to change her name. Leave the old behind. They'd find her if she didn't. So she changed her name to Xueen.
It took six months to repair the damage. She was told she would never be able to have children, but it didn't seem to phase her. She didn't care about starting a family. To hell with what little future she had left. What she craved was revenge.
Revenge came on her 16th birthday. After a few years of underground training, paying hired guns to teach her to use high caliber weapons, and pistols, she finally shot her shot. The men that raided her family home and murdered her father died at her hands. She shot out their knees, broke elbows with sledge hammers, gutted one and slung his entrails over another, she pulled eyes from their sockets, used adrenaline to keep them alive for 48 hours. When the screams finally faded, she sobbed. She finally killed the people that murdered her father.
She had no purpose. She was still going to die. It was just a matter of how long it would take until she died.
But a thought occurred. Those three were just following orders. They were just pawns on a much larger board. There was still a king to overthrow. Her hands clenched into fists, and a snarl laced her lips. There was more to do. She had nothing to lose. Death was already at her doorstep, might as well greet him with an open hand.
She no longer feared death.
Sona invested in stocks which only served to increase her wealth, but by this point her illness had progressed to the point of no recovery. If she'd just gotten the treatment as a child, it wouldn't have progressed this far. She was eighteen.
She hired her own group of thugs, her own gang beginning to form. But they weren't quite up to snuff. She needed someone with more experience in killing... someone who wouldn't hesitate. Someone who would be loyal, and follow her every command. She was getting sicker. She needed someone to be her weapon when she was unable to lift one herself.
A few weeks later she hears of a serial killer. Very proficient. Very lethal. He's taken out a few of her men already, so she dared to see just whom this man was.
And it was then she came face to face with the mass murderer himself. A man decorated in scars along his arms and chest, a sadistic smile trailing over his lips. His eyes had a murderous lust to them, but she could only smile back. He was perfect.
"Hello there, my name is Sona Xueen. Did you know you've been causing me a lot of trouble lately?" she hummed, resting a hand on her chin.
The man advanced slowly his curiosity piqued. Why wasn't she afraid of him? Why wasn't she running?
"Hmm..." he looked her over, a glimmer of a knife in his hand, "Aren't you cute~ what would bring a vulnerable, sweet, young woman all teh way out here~?"
She grinned even wider, "I have a proposition for you... you work for me, you get paid, and you get to kill more than just junkies and my men for a living... work for me and you'll never have to live in filth again! You'll be able to live out any perverted violent fantasy you set your sights on!"
He paused, glancing over the other, then at the knife. After a long train of thought he tossed the knife to the side.
"What'cha got in mind boss?" he chuckled, a dark tone to his voice.
"How does targeting corporate heads sound? They've been very, very naughty, and I think it's about time we send those pig headed shits packing," she smirked.
The other's eyes widened, "A challenge~? I like it!"
"What's your name?"
"Victor. Victor Zsasz,"
She was twenty one.
She now stands at the epiphany of her career. There are ten corporate heads that need to roll, and five have already crumbled. There are five left to snuff out. She grins at the thought. The thought that her revenge will not only satisfy the violent lust in her stomach, but that there will never be children that are forced to go through what she had. Parents will never have to suffer losing their children. Parents will never be forced to resort to extreme measures to ensure their safety and well being. People won't have to die over a system designed to kill them.
She coughs. Her chest hurts. A pain shoots through her entire body. She's surprised she's lived this long. Perhaps it's spite? Or anger? Perhaps it's her wanting to live just a bit longer so she can spend time with the friends she's made along the way.
She feels a hand on her shoulder as she's lifted into a strong pair of arms. It's Victor. He wears a goofy smile as he always does around her. She lets out a satisfied sigh. For now everything is okay. For now everything is normal. One day she'll die. One day Victor will make sure that he's the one to do it. He's vowed. He's promised.
She's somehow made it to thirty.
That's basically everything I have on her so far! I have a few comics planned to go into detail of her relationships with some of the rouges she's closer to. Like Victor as her lover and weapon, Riddler as her informant and occasional sex partner, Mr. Freeze as her father figure, Penguin as a very dear close friend, and her strange friendship with Jim Gordon because of his father saving her life. There's a lot of puzzle pieces I'd rather fill in with art and pictures rather than story format, but I hope you enjoy her lore!

flashback masterlist
2004
“I hate handcuffs.”
Penelope sat beside me, her black fingers tapping on the table. I played with the end of my large sweater, the ends frayed from the long-term nervous habit.
“I can’t believe I got us caught,” I watched as the light above shone down on my hand cuffs.
“It wasn’t you, I shouldn't have gone on the server until you got done asking questions.”
Penelope looked over at me quickly, her pissed face morphing into a gentle smile.
Suddenly the door behind us opened, a tall dark hair man walking the room. He wore a suit and a stern face.
I pulled off the frayed ends of my sweater more, the thought of going to jail was killing me.
“We’ve got you Ms. Garcia, Ms. (L/N).”
“That’s what you think, Mr. Suit.”
I rolled my eyes, this wasn’t the time to be witty.
“We’ve found multiple of your illegal servers and Ms. (L/N) coercing many of your victims,” he looked over at me, I felt myself pull back into my chair more.
“Sorry?”
Garcia chuckled slightly, looking down at me in my seat.
“This isn’t a sorry moment, both of you could be going to jail.”
I felt my eyes fill with tears, the idea of orange jumpsuits and a cell was the last thing my parents expected of me.
“Well shouldn’t the cosmetic company go down with us.”
Penelope spoke with confidence, something I wish I had right now.
“Unfortunately what they were doing wasn’t illegal.”
Penelope only pulled at the cuffs slightly before looking back up at the man.
“Okay Mr. Suit-”
“It’s Agent Hotchner and I’m here to offer you both a job for the Behavioral Analysis Unit.”
“Huh?”
The man shoved his hands in both his pockets, looking over both of us. Suddenly the handcuffs around my wrist weren’t the biggest concern.
“Ms. Garcia, you are the fastest and most efficient hacker we have ever seen, you could run circles around our last tech analysis,” Penelope only shrugged and looked up at him with a smirk.
“-and you Ms. (L/N) have impressive interrogation skills with degrees in Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice.”
I felt a blush cross my cheeks, knowing taking those classes on the side paid off in some way.
“I don't think my friend and I want to teach you how to do your own job.”
I wanted to scream, I loved my best friend more than anything but she was throwing away a ‘get out of jail free” card, one we really needed right now.
“You would help us hunt psychopaths.”
Penelope looked over at me, the smirk still across her face and she looked back at Mr. Hotchner.
“We are psychopaths.”
“Excuse me?”
Penelope deadpanned me, while the agent in front of us spoke.
“You aren’t, in the hacker community you are known as “The Black Queen” and “The Pure Empress”. Both of you are known for talking down cruel organizations.”
Penelope and I both just looked at each other. The contrast between my tan sweater and her black corset would make anyone but us laugh.
“All I need is a resume for Human Resources, or I’ll hand you the jumpsuits.”
“Pen, I love you but I don’t like jumpsuits,” I whisper to her, knowing the man could still hear me but didn’t care one bit.
“Well we don't normally bring our resume to things like this, but hand us our bags and we will write down a few things we know.”
I jumped in joy within my seat, the idea of a new job that wasn’t illegal made me so excited.
Suddenly the door opened, a taller darker male walked in with a taller skinny man beside him. They walked in with our bags in their hands, serious face on.
The first man had on a light suit and his head shined slightly under the light while the second man held my bag and had his hair slicked back.
The one man placed my bag in front of me, my hands going straight to the latch on the side where I kept my notepad.
“We went though and took all their tech gear.”
I scribbled down my degrees on the paper, not knowing what else to do.
“Do you have the key?”
The man standing beside him pulled out two, looking between the two of us.
Mr. Hotchner left the room, both the men walking over to un-cuff us.
“You are very lucky,” the man unlocking Garcia spoke.
“You look like the lucky one, Mr. Calvin Klein.”
I slapped the side of her shoulder, her name quickly fell from my lips with a stern tone.
“I got us out of jail.”
She pointed a perfectly painted finger at her, the smirk took over the whole face now.
“I better be the happiest person in the world in 10 years or I’m blaming you.”
2014
Everyone sat around the woman as she talked, the words sexual harassment made me giggle, knowing where this was going.
Spencer looked down at me from where he sat on my desk, the confused little look he gets evidence on his face.
“Phrases like baby girl aren’t appropriate in the workplace.”
I covered my mouth as I looked over at my friend, her face dropping quickly.
The woman then continued with the slideshow, my finger pointed at Pen the entire time.
Spencer hit the side of my combat boot, the wicked smile on his face as he pointed to the slideshow.
The screen now read “Appropriate Work Attire”, the sight of nice suits flashed across the screen.
“Combat boots and band tee shirts are not appropriate for the workplace.”
I looked down at the Led Zeppelin shirt that I wore with a basic black blazer over it.
Suddenly Penelope whipped around in her chair, looking at me with her tongue out.
The sound of Penelope text went off, her face dropped while she waved her hand over at me. I looked up at Spencer, him already watching me with a smile. He quickly shook his head and looked up at Garcia.
I stood up and walked over to her, the woman looked at both of us telling us to sit down.
“I’m so sorry,” Garcia repeated.
“I’m not,” I smiled as Garcia pulled me over to the elevator.
Hotch stood with his stern face, holding his phone in his hand, this wasn’t a good sign.
*
“I can’t believe they called my band shirts out!”
Spencer laughed as he grabbed my bag from over my shoulder and handed in to the co-pilot.
“I mean we do work for the FBI, they probably expect a lot more appropriate outfits.”
“They shouldn’t have high expectations for me. I’m the same girl that tricked the whole 5th floor by putting whoopee cushions in their chairs,” Spencer only shook his hand as he hit his shoulder with mine.
Pen coughed from the steps of the jet, a wicked smile on her face.
Spencer ran his hand down the back of his neck while he rushed past Garcia. I went to follow him but Pen stuck her arm out.
“When are you going to tell him about the mega crush you have?”
I looked up at her, the bright pink lipstick was in a huge smile. I played with the end of my blazer, looking down at my shoes.
“I’m not telling him Pen, it’s not worth losing him.”
She only turned around and pulled me deeper into the plane.
The team sat around in their normal spots, the couch free for Pen and I both. We quickly took a seat and pulled out the tablet and hard copy, Spencer always made me carry one around.
I read through the file, my memory never forgot this case. Suddenly Hotch came on, already talking about the case.
“Well it seems Star Chambers really like secretive,” Pen nodded her head, the plane laughing from the ground.
Spence came back from the coffee machine, a tea in one hand and a coffee in the other. He handed me the tea, reading the hard copy from over my shoulder.
“It sounds like Sam Russell fit the profile perfectly.”
JJ words broke me from the small daze I fell into.
Morgan looked over at me and nodded.
“This is the case that got you caught, right?”
I looked over at Penelope, her little small smile made me look back over at the rest of the team.
“Yeah I got all three of us caught, but I didn’t know he was a killer at the time.”
Spencer just simply placed a hand on my shoulder and smiled at me.

PLS PLS LIST THE SWAPS!! TELL ME ABOUT THE SIBLINGS AND ALSO HIFUMI BECAUSE I LOVE HIM (IF YOU WANT!) I will also send more questions in the morning too, excited to see what you’ve been working on!!
OK OK OK !!!!! AHH! So, before assigning talents, I swapped the pools, so for the first game, I use the talents from the second game, and vis versa! For some i listed gender, sexuality, or neurodivergencies, though this isn’t all of them, and I haven’t developed them all to the same level!
This is SO long. I didn’t even bother mentioning things like my plans for the killing games. (I have DR1 planned out in full, but only parts of DR2 and the v3 anime)
THANK YOU FOR THE ASK MY HEART SKIPPED A BEAT IN HAPPINESS WHEN I SAW I HAD NEW ASK NOTIFS!!
LIST:
Trigger Happy Havoc (first game)
Kyoko Kirigiri- Ultimate Luckster- Mastermind (: Sometimes lesbians can be evil okay! was trained as a detective like everyone in her family and didn’t get the ultimate :) she’s definitely not mad about that :) her luck cycle depends on how far she plans things ahead. her good luck is when she’s spontaneous! She hates when ‘normal’ people are accepted by ultimates.
Makoto Naegi- Photographer (Mostly wildlife and nature photography, with Sayaka helping him for some animal photography (: trans and bi <3 One of sayaka’s birds nests in his hair like all the time)
Kiyotaka Ishimaru- Ultimate Swordsman (AUTISTIC ICON, has trained in kendo since he was a kid, then was essentially given away to the Fujisaki clan by his very stressed dad. Semiverbal, rarely speaks.)
Chihiro Fujisaki- Ultimate Yakuza (Taka is her bodyguard! His family is in debt to hers, the Fujisaki clan is the most powerful in Japan. trans icon, of course, dates Sayaka! Very direct, though she’s far more delicate and polite when talking to taka, her best friend)
Sakura Oogami- Ultimate Nurse (Works as an EMT- her clan still is in martial arts, so she’s still very buff, she assists in injuries at the family dojo. Autistic Icon)
Asahina Aoi- Ultimate Gamer (ULTIMATE ADHD. streams and has a ton of fun, will ramble while breaking records, demigirl who loves her girlfriend sakura :)
Mukuro Ikusaba- Ultimate Chef (Works best with ‘cheap’ food, and making them taste good. a byproduct of growing up on the streets with junko, and junko being bored of the same old food they dug out of the trash. now works closely with junko for her teams’ nutritional needs! autistic and sapphic.)
Junko Enoshima- Ultimate Team Manager (there are SO many sports she can never get bored, and the professional scene is always changing! prefers coaching womens’ teams, because being an ultimate brings them more publicity and usually higher pay :)
Mondo Oowada- Ultimate Prince (OH MY BOY. trans adhd icon. now the crown prince of Novoselic, with a reagent in his place until he comes of age. His service dog Chuck is a maltese and an absolute sweetheart. Chihiro takes him under her wing to teach leadership. also dates taka later OF COURSE, though they’re poly and I may add more ppl to their relationship later.)
Celestia Ludenburg- Ultimate Musician (specializes in violin, most strings, though she can play any instrument. grew up poor, dedicated herself to an instrument and persona to cope)
Byakuya Togami- Ultimate Musician (Yep. two musicians. two catty trans gay icons about to throw down. they HATE each other and grew up as rivals. specialize in classical, they literally tore a professional orchestra full of grown adults apart trying to make them side with who was the best musician. they’re so good that they’re matched, and Hope’s Peak accepts them as one student and combined ultimate. they room together. they fight. Literally if one of them gets expelled, the other does too, so they’re STUCK. eventually they become literally inseparable and insufferable together like the WORST siblings. I love them.)
Sayaka Maizono- Breeder (animal handler) (Specializes in birds!!!!!! has songbirds on her shoulders all the time. will give unsettling animal facts without realizing they’re unsettling. sends her songbirds to serenade chihiro when they start dating <3)
Yasuhiro Hagakure- Gymnast (you see this tall goof who acts like an older brother to everyone and wonder HOW he’s a gymnast. he’s completely different in competitions, though still lighthearted. becomes a big brother figure to mukuro and junko especially <3 also trans bc i say so.)
Leon Kuwata- Traditional Dancer (he just. kinda hates it. it takes SO much work and effort but he takes to it naturally. his cousin kanon is NOT like in canon, instead she’s helpful. he’d literally rather be doing anything else. doesn’t know how to do anything like... basic either. can’t cook. cant do his own laundry. everything was dedicated to traditional japanese dancing before he attended HPA.)
Toko Fukawa- Engineer (writes schematics and is very good at it. gets VERY upset when her plans go wrong. her notes are orderly and perfect. host for their system!)
Syo- Mechanic (a factive of genocider syo, NOT an actual killer. she’s a protector mainly, and also is more adept at hands on skills when it comes to fixing things, her hands are less shaky. Her notes are a disaster and she does it to spite Toko.)
Hifumi Yamada- (???) (reserve course) Protagonist! My BOY. HIFUMI IS GOOD OKAY. He’s autistic and loves anime and gaming! he’s not particularly ultimate-leveled at them, or anything else! Attending Hope’s Peak as a reserve course student! At one point he joins the student council as a reserve course representative even if he’s only a freshman :) He’s also a moderator in Hina’s livestream chat, under the username of JusticeHammer, fastest ban hammer this side of the internet. He's internet friends with hina and sakura, and doesn’t realize Oh We Go To the same SCHOOL until he bumps into them. and realizes hina doesnt know what he looks like. but sakura does. its hilarious. he’s aroace, and during the year they’re locked in HPA, is in a queer platonic partnership with Hina and Sakura, while they’re dating each other. it’s great.)
Goodbye Despair! (second game)
Peko Pekoyama- Lucky student (ohohoh. her luck relies on her conviction. if she has doubts her bad luck strikes HARD. trans!, was taken in by Fuyuhiko’s family when she was a baby, grew up as just another kid in the family. They all expected Fuyu to go off to HPA on his own and then BOOM acceptance letter)
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu- Programmer (He. gets so angry while coding. He has an array of rubber ducks to talk to and work through his coding issues with. trans of course. Very protective of Peko when people say she doesn’t have a ‘real’ ultimate. ADHD and Autistic)
Sonia Nevermind- Writer (Literary Girl) (Her family immigrated to Japan when she was young! She writes a lot of serial killer novels, murder mysteries and horror and all that! Trans and bi :)
Gundham Tanaka- Detective (YEAH my guy is a detective. still talks Like That. Trans and bi and he and Sonia were kinda-dating (t4t autistic power couple in the making) when things started happening. He spends some time with his cool older sister who he looks up to a LOT. He and Sonia talk through things together a lot, they both have those red string walls, one for murder cases, another for a fictional plot lmao.)
Mahiru Koizumi- Moral Compass (my GIRL. autistic. Her morals rely a lot on people taking responsibility and being reliable, and she ends up having to work through some biases she didn’t realize she had when she arrived at HPA. Is still protective of Hiyoko, though that protectiveness is spread a bit thinner to extend to the rest of the class.)
Hiyoko Saionji- Clairvoyant!!! (HI YES I COULD TALK ABOUT HER FOR DAYS. Has actual visions in dreams and when she suddenly faints, but doesn’t really realize they’re uhh Real Visions for a WHILE. uses her status as an ultimate clairvoyant to trick and bully kids when in school for a LONG time, though her homelife wasn’t great with her grandmother trying to find ways to make her visions more consistent. SHES ALSO 12 WHEN SHE JOINS THE 77TH CLASS. she’s just so advanced in academics and her ultimate is so interesting hope’s peak cant HELP but scout her early. she has SO many issues guys no one appreciates hiyoko enough, autistic gifted kid hiyoko my beloved.)
Akane Owari- Gambler (started gambling to help out her family and Got Good at it. is very very conscious of money and food like all the time. Runs the hope’s peak betting pools once she arrives. these ultimates bet on a lot of things. she ALWAYS wins. until she doesnt!!!)
Mikan Tsumiki- Martial Artist (ohhhh Mikan. Still anxious and clumsy (though not like THAT in canon) and literally no one looks at her and thinks Oh The ULTIMATE martial artist?? it isn’t until you see her in the ring that you understand. She started learning self defense as a kid because her (bad) parents essentially said she had to rely on and protect herself and no one else would help.)
Kazuichi Souda- Pop Idol (OH TRANS ICON? he’s nervous and paranoid about Everything still, though now it’s like. oh the entire world is always watching my every move this is Okay (: has the brightest neon album eras. he literally keeps up a like. weird chad persona when interacting with people because he’s masking how hard he’s constantly just internally screaming.)
Nagito Komaeda- Soldier (AHAHAH my mans got issues problems disorder he’s a messssss, this trans guy, this absolute gay. this boy leveled a city of thousands of people with his own hands and some bombs. Still has medical issues, but most of his like. treatments and medicine is hold hostage as long as he stays in line. believes the ends justify the means and anyone who dies to him is obviously weak, because look at him! he’s weak, but that doesn’t matter because he doesn’t have to be the strongest, he just has to be stronger than the weakest scum.)
Chiaki Nanami- Heir (OOF. Agender, uses any pronouns. Doesn’t really. enjoy being the heir. grew up with Byakuya in the same circles. she treats the economy and stock market and stuff like games. enjoys gaming but isn’t good at them. collects so many things. has halls full of collections. Her parents stopped controlling her once she was able to prove she had more money than them and could literally bankrupt them if she wanted.)
Hajime Hinata- Baseball Star (Chiaki’s best friend, his family was upper middle class until he hit it BIG as a baseball star. wants to do BIG things and wants to attend hope’s peak more than anything!! Doesn’t really think of baseball as his THING, just a means to an end! trans :)
Teruteru Hanamura- Biker Gang Leader (started with shaking down some jerks who didn’t pay their food and drink tabs at his mama’s restaurant. now he RUNS their tiny town. His siblings are essentially gang mascots, he works hard to keep them out of trouble (while bringing them to like. meetings where he ends up beating a dude almost to death. its fine). most of what he does it to get more money to keep the restaurant afloat and care for his mama with her health conditions.)
Nekomaru Nidai- Fashionista (the drama. the CHAOS. most people are like ohhh we can never understand this artistic genius when he’s literally just. vibing and has ADHD and a love for coffee. Works a lot on accessible clothing lines for disabled people! Also he and Kazuichi work together sometimes, Nekomaru is good at calming Kaz down and seeing like, the root of whatever problem and making it better. ALSO A TRANS ICON and just flaunts it.)
Imposter- In the hope’s peak days they are impersonating Ryota Mitarai, as a part of the 77th class. In the Killing Game they impersonate Mondo Oowada as the Ultimate Prince. They’re doin’ their best.
Ibuki Mioda- (???) (Izuru Kamakura) Protagonist! Gundham Tanaka’s older sister (though they’re in the same school year). Nonbinary and using just. an array of pronouns alongside she/her, and jokingly fights with gundham for neopronouns like MOM said it’s MY TURN on the rawrself pronouns. She attends the reserve course to stay at her brother’s side. She dresses loudly and acts even louder because !!! she wants to stand out!! in the middle of this drab reserve course hell!!  but when things go down, she wants to be someone, to be worthy of being her amazing brother’s big sister. so she accepts some offers.
NON-KILLING GAME:
Ryota Mitarai- Ultimate Analyst (stays in his room. He’s terrified of the outside world but fascinated by it. watches hope’s peak academy through security feeds, picking up on little details. he just wants to understand things but never looks at the big picture.)
Chisa Yukizome- Ultimate Boxer (Homeroom teacher!! She’s working really hard and believes in everyone! Some are intimidated by talent, but she’s never hurt anyone outside of the ring! Dating Kyosuke)
Juzo Sakakura- Ultimate Student Council President (Has anger issues, though his work at reigning them in assisted in becoming an Ultimate. Was responsible for security and the Hope’s Peak student council. Dating Kyosuke)
Kyosuke Munakata- Ultimate Housekeeper (Meticulous, works himself to the BONE even if he’s good enough to not have to do that. Is working on establishing another Hope’s Peak! Dating Chisa and Jozu!!!)
Seiko Kimura- Ultimate Blacksmith (GIVE MY GIRL KNIVES!! She’s an anxious gal, always wearing a facemask that filters the air in her forge because she has some respiratory problems. she prefers making more decorative pieces like an artist, but sometimes can create utilitarian pieces or tools to fit specific needs. Still a doormat)
Ruruka Ando- Ultimate Pharmacist (She constantly asks Seiko for new tools for her developments in medicine, saying its all for the advancement of humanity, so Seiko denying any request is SELFISH, though she never thinks to make anything for seiko’s health issues. Dating Izayoi. Specializes in medicine for mental health. Not Doing Great :)
Sonosuke Izayoi- Ultimate Confectioner (He loves sweets. LOVES them. Creates things that look plain, ordinary. but taste so GOOD you CRY and maybe ascend for a little bit. sometimes Ando makes cool new drugs to put in the sweets, who knows! It’s a mystery! He always has like. a huge refrigerated case of fresh cakes, and constantly has a lollipop in his own specialty recipe in his mouth.)
