The Outsiders as Animals

wanted to draw Johnny and Dally but I can't draw people to save my life + i love using animals to represent characterizations of people = i came up with the animal equivalents of the gang

Johnny Cade - alley cat

A skinny alley cat of no specific breed, just your basic domestic feline. Likely with black, tuxedo or black smoke fur. He lives almost exclusively outside and is often the target of abuse and bullying, resulting in malnourishment and less-than-ideal hygiene. But, if you feed him and give him a warm place to sleep at night, he might just be your friend. He didn't choose this kind of life, and really he deserves much better.

Dallas Winston - hound

A tall, lanky mutt, with a barrel chest and sharp, pointed features. He's not a specific breed, and definitely not a purebred, but similar to an Ibizan hound. He likes to go fast and enjoys racing, but he also enjoys going out and hunting for some action. His stature might be intimidating, and his teeth sure are big, but he's not so bad once you get to know him... if he let's you, that is.

Two-Bit Mathews - possum

Just your average wild possum, with a goblinoid personality and little grabby hands. He'll show off his teeth any chance he gets, but it's anyone's guess if he'll ever use them. Also, he's surprisingly clean given his lifestyle. (And it's absolutely shocking that he doesn't carry rabies.)

Steve Randle - mountain lion

Lean and muscular, can jump wide gaps and is surprisingly dexterous, and sure he looks innocent enough on the surface (if you didn't know any better) but he would love to beat you up and absolutely will if you give him ANY reason to. You may not be afraid of him, but you should be.

Darrel Curtis - Kodiak or grizzly bear

Big, strong and sturdy. He looks scary, and sounds scary, and yes you should probably be scared, but he'll leave you alone if you mind your own business. Alongside that, he's mostly a loner, definitely wishes he didn't have 2 cubs to look after, but he will provide for them and protect them until his dying breath.

Sodapop Curtis - black bear

A handsome guy, with sleek fur and a kind face. He looks so sweet, and boy is he a charmer, but in reality he is a menace to society (and it's easy to forget that). He will mess with you, and he enjoys being a nuisance, but if you tell him to knock it off he'll probably stop... probably.

Ponyboy Curtis - Gobi bear

Small and dog-like, but still a bear! His kind is endangered and there aren't many like him. He lives in a place that you might not expect, but he's happiest there. He's not much of a hunter, definitely more of a gatherer. He'll defend himself if he has to, especially if he has some backup, but really he doesn't want to hurt anyone.

why didn’t you guys tell me zuko was so funny like he’s framed as this terrifying villain but he’s a blatantly autistic sixteen year old who’s just really fucking angry all the time like. he’s not even evil autism (which would be great) he’s just like sixteen and lives in a world that most likely doesn’t know what autism is like. dudes just still stuck in the very rigidly following one thing and being horrifically stubborn about this like tbh he doesn’t even seem like he’s trying to be a dick he's just absurdly hyperfocused and also was raised with a ridiculously warped sense of morals. like he is incredibly flawed and does a lot of awful things to clarify but it’s intensely funny that he is just like. going through the agonies.

i hope ruby gets a well-that’s-alright-then-style notdeath. on the one hand it will make haters mad because oh no not another companion with an impermanent end (and i like to see haters mad) on the other it would require creativity to depict this in a new way + i love all the implications i love the dark fairytale quality of these companion exits i love my un-undead schrodinger’s women

with the way the legend of ruby sunday is titled… legends aren’t usually told about living people. legends are stories of the bygone past, of an age long since over, fictionalised and overgrown with folklore like barnacles sticking to an abandoned shell. there is such a thing as a living legend, but they’re exceedingly rare. the unmistakeable raven’s call in the 73 yards teaser, the trailer’s cut to fifteen crying alone after promising to cherry he’d protect her daughter… the foreshadowing is clear as day…

and yet. there’s one massive HOWEVER. ruby appears in s15: millie’s been spotted on set filming it. which leads me to believe — the doctor isn’t one to take the time travel route and revisit companions that in his future are genuinely dead. that would hurt too much, it would cause unnecessary trauma and could break the timeline. that must mean ruby stays alive in some way. ish. she’s alive and a legend and a mystery. girl-ballad girl-song girl-paradox

#on a personal level what interests me about these characters is precisely what gets them labeled as being subject to #misogynistic writing by pop-feminist video-essayists. as an autistic girl* (*ish) however; i find female characters that #aren’t quite ‘normal people’; women who represent an idea or concept or are a puzzle to be solved or a manic pixie dream girl to be #more and in a way far more interesting than a girl-next-door-type universally relatable protagonist #they make for more nuanced stories with more symbolism and more layers of interpretation usually. why should there be realism in a #fantastical narrative? similarly i like characters that are haunting the narrative or dead before it began (big locked tomb fan if you #didn’t know) and like. not to be tvtropes but the lost lenore archetype. dead woman who spurs the hero on to recklessness or revenge. #i identify with that dead girl. the laura palmers of the world. set the story in motion without #necessarily having agency. maybe it’s something to do with my #constant background radiation of passive suicidality. in a fun whimsical way :) i would never kill myself but i don’t want to be a real #person. i want to be objectified but not necessarily in a k*nky s*xual way (that too) in a princess in a tower way #the ultimate femme fantasy innit? there’s something about it. hashtag problematic hashtag conforming to gender roles #10000 tags be upon ye #ruby sunday #millie gibson #doctor who #dw #steven moffat #clara oswald #fifteen #fifteenth doctor #twelveclara #amy pond #charley pollard #river song #donna noble #ncuti gatwa #doctor who meta #jamie.txt #haunting

#prince myshkin #lev nikolayevitch myshkin #the idiot #myshkin #no but i really think there are legitimate reasons to argue that myshkin could be seen as an autistic character #other than the fact that he literally checks of every criteria #there's also the fact that there is a frequent comorbidity of epilepsy and autism #which makes me think (tho i have not nearly done enough research on this to make any actual claims) #that there is a possibility that traits which we would today associate with autism could back in the day #before the term autism even existed #could be seen as something common among epicleptic people #and given that myshkin is already canonically neurodivergent and epileptic #it really isn't a stretch to say that if we were to apply modern day terminology on a 19th century character #he could be seen as an early example of an autistic character #which makes it very interesting to note how people in the book view and interact with him #(and even without the possible autism he's still a canon neurodivergent character cast as the protagonist in a 19th century book #which on its own is really interesting #especially considering the fact that dostoyevsky drew from experiences with his own epilepsy) #for example canon infantilization (which this post is definitely a joke on) the whole 'idiot' thing etc. #also the way he views himself! he has so much internalised ableism #i also think it's interesting that another character that exhibits a lot of autistic traits is kirillov #who's also canonically epileptic #my post #vince talks
