-AUSTIN-
I winced when the bright sunshine burned my freshly opened retinas. “Fuck.” I groaned. Once I had gained some more consciousness, I patted around the bed to find it empty. An immediate feeling of relief, then sadness washed over me at the absence. It made me ponder where I stood with Aspen; having her here constantly and being so… needy was suffocating. But on the other hand, it was comforting not being alone. God knows where I’d be without company through this down spiral. It’s not like it was the worst company you could have – she was kind, soft, caring, funny – and the fun we had. Maybe it was just the aftershock from her ‘I love you’ slip.
Suddenly, there was a hunger pain in my stomach and it crept up my ribcage - it climbed up each rib like a ladder until it was curled up in my throat. It wasn’t hunger for food but something else. I pulled myself to the edge of the bed, letting my feet hit the floor and shaking away the gnawing feeling. My nose suddenly scrunched at a familiar sweet scent filling the room. Using both hands to push myself off the mattress, I weakly made my way towards the kitchen.
The minute I rounded the corner I stopped in my tracks. There was Elsie, fluttering around my kitchen. I watched her wavy brown locks bounce as she wiggled a pan then tossed it upwards to flip a pancake in the air.
Pancakes – I knew that I knew that scent, it smelt like home. While having Elsie in my kitchen after everything was jarring, it was also greatly comforting. Maybe this would make everything okay, maybe pancakes could fix this too; they always fixed everything before.
“Els–“ I began but then Aspen abruptly swung the front door open.
“Aspen.” I sighed out, slightly annoyed and anxious.
She went to the counter and dropped a pile of mail onto the marble. She knitted her brows at my tone, “Yes?”
I gestured my hand over to the kitchen with lifted brows, “Hello?”
She turns to the kitchen and I follow her gaze, we both land on the same thing.
A completely empty black and white kitchen.
“What? I know the muffins aren’t done yet I-” Her voice faltered as she looked back at me, confused. “What’s wrong?”
One thing you could never underestimate is a woman’s intuition – and by the way she looked at me, I knew she knew something was up.
“Oh, oh,” I fake laughed and waved away the question, “Oh nothing.”
She eyed me curiously, “Okay…” Setting her bag on the counter. “Well, I have some bad news – well I have good news and bad news.” She scrunched her face like she was waiting for impact.
“Oh god, what.” I sighed, letting my hands fall to my sides.
“Well… bad news is, that none of the girls at work could get me anything.” She fidgeted with the silver rings wrapped around her boney fingers.
It was too early in the morning for me to be receiving such bad news. “Okay, well what’s the good news?”
She smiled wide, “Nox is coming home sooner than I thought, so he’ll be back and we can re-up then.”
My fingers curled into a tight fist, “How soon.”
Tumblr media
The next succession of days blurred together into a fuzzy haze. Aspen had barely left my loft, only for her shifts at the club and to get food. The entire weight of the past two weeks settled an overwhelming ache pulsing in my blood vessels. Between Christmas, the plan with Nox, Aspen, New Years and the morning after, this had been the most unstable I’d felt in a long time. Maybe even since my Dad’s passing – maybe even before Elsie.
Everything was just shitty – and it was because of me.
None of this would’ve happened if I had just kept my hands off of things that didn’t belong to me – if I kept them off my best friend.
If I hadn’t relapsed, I wouldn’t have been cornered with the plan that landed Aspen in my lap in the first place.
The details and the technicalities didn’t matter, I just didn’t want to think. I didn’t want to feel. I didn’t want to let myself dwell on the specifics, on all the ways I fucked up, all the ways I was a shit person. I wanted to forget.
And Aspen helped to do exactly that. When my cock was in her mouth, when she was lighting my blunts, when she was pouring pills in my hand, when she was offering me lines, when she was sharing bottles of alcohol with me, she was doing exactly what Nox had intended her to do – distract me.
It hadn’t even been a week since Aspen’s ‘I love you’ and after I’d already finished the bottle of Percocet she’d given me. The little white pills were meant to be temporary, just to get over the hump of Xanax withdrawals while Nox was away– but as the absence of everything settled, panic began to fill the space. I knew I could handle the Xanax, I knew it like the back of my hand. Since college I’d learned how to deal with it, even when it got bad. But this…this was a beast I was never prepared to battle.
Xanax felt like a distant memory in the skyline of my mind. The only thing that took up any space in my head were those new pills. They put on little plays in the corners of my mind, they sang melodies into my ears drums. They were all I wanted, all I cared about, all I thought about.
In the midst of my withdrawals, the panic, the guilt from Elsie, and Aspen’s slip, tension was thick in the air between me and Aspen. I tried my best to stay calm, I really fucking did. But this comedown was nothing I’d ever felt before. I was just so ferociously angry all the time, at any and everything. I felt the aching need and the pure rage in my bones; it buried itself into the deepest crevices of my blood marrow.
I knew we’d end up in this situation eventually, where we’d run out and I’d end up in detox agony – or maybe I lied to myself and made the empty goal to not let it get to that point. But there we were.
This particular day, fury was burning holes through my veins, and Aspen’s lack of tidiness was my last straw. I stomped over to the bedroom, “I need you to come with me right now.”
“What? Why?” She squeaked and the pitch of her voice only amplified the skull splitting migraine I’d felt for the past 3 days.
I didn’t reply and simply pulled her by the cuff of her babypink sweater to the kitchen. “This.” I pointed to the lukewarm milk left on the counter. “How many times have I told you not to fucking leave the milk on the fucking counter.” The harsh words slipped through my lips before I could stop them. There was a tinge of guilt as they left me.
“Austin, what the fuck are you talking about?” She scrunched her brows perplexed. “That’s not even-”
“I’ve told you multiple times to not leave the milk out.” I spat out, repeating myself through gritted teeth, “Now the milk is spoiled.” I felt as though I was talking to a toddler.
She raised her brows in surprise, “I swear I don’t know what you’re talking about, I didn’t leave anything out.” She replied feigning innocence.
I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose between my middle finger and thumb attempting my best to remain calm. “Can you please stop fucking lying? I told you yesterday, literally right here in this very spot, to not leave the milk out.”
“Austin I-I don’t, we just,” She stuttered her way through, taking a step back from me.
“Oh my god Aspen, you can’t even admit to your own mistake?”
“I just, well I, I just don’t-” She faltered.
“Spit it out Aspen, what!”
“I swear I have no idea what you’re talking about,” She paused, “I don’t even drink milk, and,” An even longer pause while her eyes lingered on the half-gallon of dairy on the counter. “Aus, that’s orange juice.”
The room began to spin, and I stumbled back a step, “I uh- Yeah, yeah that’s what I meant, the orange juice.” I cleared my throat, “I told you not to leave out the orange juice.”
“Aus,” She held a breath before exhaling it, “I wasn’t even here yesterday, remember? I was working all day.” She took a step towards me, and going to place the back of her hand on my forehead, “You feelin’ okay?”
Reflexively, I smacked her arm away from me, “No Aspen, I don’t fucking feel good, I’ve been detoxing for the past 3 days. I feel like fucking ass right now.”
“Babe, I’m sorry. I couldn’t get anything from anyone.” Her tone was sad, like she knew she was disappointing me. “But Nox will be home in two days, so he’ll be able to come over.” She crossed the space between us and gently tucked some of my overgrown blonde hair behind my ear, “Okay? We just gotta make it two more days okay?”
Just two more days.
Tumblr media
My front door jiggled open with the shuffle of two people coming through the door.
“Aus, we’re here.” Aspen called, the chill of winter hanging in her voice.
I spent the day in bed watching the ceiling and trying to smoke enough weed to stave off how miserable I felt. There was a brief moment of silence before her words had fully processed in my slowed mind. I closed my eyes and took a sharp inhale, both to prepare myself but also to gather enough strength to unglue from the engulfing mattress.
A rather unsettling feeling swirled in my stomach when my eyes landed on Nox in my kitchen. However, when I remembered that he didn’t come empty handed, there was an immediate wash of relief. Out of all the people in the world, my best friend’s shitty boyfriend shouldn’t be someone I got excited about seeing.
“There’s my man!” Nox beamed his signature disturbing grin. He threw an arm around my shoulders tugging me close in some fucked up half bro hug. The weight of his arm on my shoulders felt like sandbags. He pulled away and briefly inspected me, no doubt getting joy out of my bloodshot eyes lined with dark circles and pale broken out skin. “God you’ve never looked better.” His sarcasm sounded so genuine, maybe it wasn’t a lie that I never looked better to him.
Like straight out of a movie scene, he plopped down what looked like a high-end lawyer’s suitcase, unclasping each side of the locks before pulling up the lid. Inside was an addict’s candy land, the variety of substances seemed to hold anything you could possibly ever imagine. “So what’s it gonna be Butler? Take your pick.”
The air in the room became dense, like I was inside the walls of a cinder block. My eyes drifted between him and the full inventory.
I was really doing this. This was really happening.
“I uh-“ Running my tongue between my lips, then turned to Aspen. “What do you want babe?” Maybe if I gave her the responsibility, I would somehow make myself less accountable for our decisions.
She let out a small giggle then proceeded to point out the usual suspects. Pills, green, and powder. I gave Nox a nod confirming the decision and a smile curled across his lips, “Perfect!”
When Nox began gathering the products, I realized Aspen had made a mistake. It was the pure desperation that forced my hand to latch onto his wrist, shock flashed over his face before my eyes met his. “Not that one.” I stated lowly and he furrowed his brows in confusion. “I– We want Oxy.”
It took a brief moment for Nox to put together the pieces but when he did, a sinister beam spread across his face, “Well, well, quite an upgrade we’ve made huh?”
I crossed my arms, retracting into myself, “Can we just have some fucking Oxy.” I snapped, the anger bubbling up in me again. I was so close to tasting relief and he was just fucking around.
He scoffed and shook his head, plucking a pill bottle from the case, holding it up and giving it a shake in my eyeline, “I wouldn’t be so hasty with your words with someone who’s holding your fix.”
My brows lowered and my eyes felt like laser beams, but he was right, I couldn’t do much more than that. He held my salvation in his grimey tattooed hands.
“That’s what I thought.” He set down the bottle on the table. “I don’t have pure oxy, only Percocets.” He stated as he plucked the other parts of our order from his briefcase and set them aside in one little pile of substances. I nodded in acceptance.
Out of reflex, or maybe kindness, Aspen went to grab her wallet to pay but my hand landed on her arm. “You don’t need to.” I said simply.
Nox glanced over at Aspen with a crooked grin, “Don’t worry darlin’, your boyfriend and I got a little deal, you’re covered.”
“Oh.” She replied softly, retracting her hands back into herself and looked down at her fidgeting hands.
After Nox packed his pharmacy up, he wrapped an arm around my shoulders, “Good doin’ business with ya Butler.” He leaned into me, near my ear whispering, “And if you don't wanna lose your supply chain, don’t ever talk to me like that again, got it?” He landed a heavy pat on my back, knocking all the wind out of me.
Before the front door closed behind him, the pill bottle was twisted open and there was already a pill down my throat.
I felt the torment of a comedown like that and I didn’t plan to feel it again.

◜Dad! Jason Headcanons ◞
Tumblr media
          ┊ ᝰ﹕Characters : dad!jason todd x latino vigilant! Reader
┊ ᝰ﹕Summary: recently I saw a post from @super-marvel-dc here on Tumblr where she said her headcanons of Jason being a father of a big family, and it inspired me a lot! So I decided to share some of the crazy things that had been on my mind for a while about this. If you like this maybe it could become a series
(Link to the initial post by @super-marvel-dc, )
┊ ᝰ﹕Theme : nothing but fluffy and google translate english
Tumblr media
- You and Jason had already been married for about two years, things were stable and happy for both of you, taking into account your busy vigilante lives.
- The first child to be adopted was Naomi, who was found when she was just 3 years old abandoned in the alley of crime, and since then you and Jason have had her as your daughter
- Shortly afterwards, things got complicated with a completely unplanned and surprising pregnancy, after all, after the incident, Jason thought he could not even have biological children, and nine months later you had twins Holden and Skyler
- Shortly after two years, a little boy named Austin had been rescued by the Gotham police after a major attack caused by the Black Mask, having arrested the culprit Jason felt the responsibility of taking the boy in
-And then came the twins Savannah and Aspen, who were adopted after a Wayne gala in support of Gotham Orphanage, the big surprise for everyone was Jason and Y/n adopted two of the children instead of Bruce
- After that came Hazel, a little girl who had been purposely abandoned at the mall by her mother.
- and then we had river, a boy from a troubled family who lived in the alley of crime, and with him little darcy who was protected by river while her parents were too busy spending all their money on drugs
- And that was how the simple routine maintained by two people over five years together, in less than three years multiplied, becoming a family of eleven people
- At first things were chaotic but over time a routine was established, Fridays were reserved for friends, Saturdays for meetings and Sundays for family.
- Jason despite initially being terrified of fatherhood and literally shaking with fear, things changed in a short time, this man read every book on pregnancy, fatherhood and positive parenting he could find, he watched vlogs and tips on YouTube and Instagram from mothers and fathers on how to care for and educate their children, and I say with conviction that he has become an incredible father and making it his personal mantra to become the father he wishes he had had
- because you have children of different ethnicities, you reserved one day a week with us. traditional cuisine dinner, holidays with foods typical of each place, you made sure your children knew about their respective cultures and origins
- As a Latina by blood and raised in a Latin neighborhood in Gotham, you made sure your children learned your native language (Portuguese or Spanish, you choose lol), in addition to obviously the house being always filled with cultural music and food
- Speaking of home, in a short time you had to exchange your beautiful industrial loft in the center of Gotham for a large farm-style house that was about 40 minutes from Gotham, after all, you refused to raise your children in the chaos that was that city. by the way, don't tell bruce but you and jason had to accept many jobs in addition to surveillance and batman's rules to be able to pay for everything, but for the comfort of your children it was worth it
- Since the family grew abruptly, visits to the mansion became less frequent, but you and the children still visited at least once a month, especially when you needed a free babysitter. It is worth mentioning that for a long time they will be the butt of jokes on family holidays due to the large number of children
- You keep the life of vigilantes away from the children's reality, they don't even know about their second identities because you feel better knowing that you are keeping them away from this world, despite this you both agree that you will bring the truth to light when they are old enough
- Despite not wanting anyone anywhere near a gun or robin uniform, they all know self-defense and some type of fight or sport.
- An additional thing is that Jason sees himself on the river a lot, especially when he was younger, and that's why he always tries to be a present for him.
-Meanwhile Austin is the little version of Dick which makes Jason wish for death many times while you just laugh at the whole situation finding it hilarious, and all of this gets worse after I give Austin gymnastics lessons which results in Jason taking his son away from him. you from the roof of the house after ending up stuck in one of the tiles.

Title: Watch Me Burn (Part One) Summary: Fem!Reader x AU!Cas. Fem!Reader x AU!Sam. This fic was inspired by both parts of “Love the Way You Lie” by Eminem & Rihanna. Castiel and the reader are toxic for each other and keep falling back together until the reader moved away. It’s been years and now she is back home, waltzing back into Castiel’s life. She is determined to do better this time, to make them work, but outside forces as well as the scars the two have left on each other weave their way into their reconciliation. Will they be able to overcome the past and new threats to their sustainability? Words: 4,465 Warnings (for the fic in entirety): Extreme angst, domestic violence, smut, unprotected sex, dom/sub dynamics, BDSM trust breaking, fluff, language, alcohol abuse, !!! eventual !!! happiness
Chapter 2 || Masterpost (mobile) || Fic masterpost
The bouncer at the door was different, not anyone that you knew. You wondered what had happened to Derrick, you had liked him. The new bouncer had eyed your shoulder bag and you asked if he wanted to look through it hardly keeping the condescension out of your voice. He had waved you through without batting an eye; the Prada bag and streamlined look of your outfit screamed elite, someone he could not fathom causing any real problems outside of acting like an entitled bitch if your drink order was messed up. Looks were deceiving but still, you knew he was probably wondering why someone like you was coming into this dive bar. You snorted, thinking fleetingly he might think you were from the health department.
The place was fairly busy for 8:00pm. It was Friday, yes, but peak hours typically began around 10:00pm. Granted, you had been gone for a handful of years, so who knows what else had changed besides the bouncer.
Your eyes landing on him behind the bar caused you to come to a stop in the middle of the walkway. The light in his eyes was only rivaled by the dazzling smile on his lips. He was as you remembered: illuminating, his presence a force to be reckoned with. He knew the layout of his bar like the back of his hand, moving effortlessly around the other bartender to get whatever liquor the patron had requested while simultaneously taking another drink order from another customer. More times than you could count, you had leaned over that same bar, demanding passing kisses from him.
He was the reason you were in this dive bar.
Exhaling deeply, trying to rid yourself of the anxiousness that had just hit you like a freight train at the mere sight of him, you pushed yourself forward. Finding an empty seat at the bar, you slid in, placing your purse on the bar by your feet, tucked against the wall. Pulling your notepad, cell phone, and pen out out, you placed it all on the counter. You planned to look as chill as possible when he did notice you – you hoped it was him that came to serve you, not the other – to have the upper hand in the situation. At least for a little bit.
Keeping your eyes down on your work, you tried to focus on your project that had been thrust into your lap when you had been transferred back here – home – from the headquarters in Austin.
You could not help it and you looked up. Which happened to be the exact moment his eyes shifted from a patron, his smile wide and joking, and fell on you. You saw the moment it registered with him; his smile faltered, melting away to shock. Brow furrowed, he stared at you and you stared back. You offered an uptick in your lips at the corner of your mouth, which gave him cause to walk forward, closing the space between the two of you.
“Cas,” you greeted lightly.
He leaned in over the bar towards you and asked over the music, “What are you doing here, Y/N?”
It was not accusatory; he was simply confused.
Playing it cool, you shrugged, “Grabbing a drink after work? Is that alright with you?”
“After work?”
“Yes. Transferred back here just this week. Haven’t even unpacked yet.”
“You serious?”
“Would I lie to you?”
“That’s a loaded question and you know it.”
You laughed and he did too, the ice slowly beginning to melt.
“I’m serious,” you told him sincerely. “I’m back. And I came back to old stomping grounds.”
His eyes raked over you, lingering on your lips. He met your eyes again, slowly beginning to nod as he asked, “You still drink the same?”
Biting your bottom lip, you pierced him with a flirtatious gaze. Leaning in towards him in return, you said, “Make it a double.”
This time his eyes were alight only for you. “You got it, angel.”
Your eyes followed him as he mixed your drink, smirking every time he snuck a glance at you as if he was expecting you to disappear. He was as fit as ever, his strong arms tight in his shirt and round ass accentuated by his black jeans. You swore he had even more tattoos than the last time you had seen him – no, he definitely did. He had not had his left sleeve completed when you had left and there it was, looking pristine. You would have to critique the new additions up close and personal.
He brought your drink back over and you held out your card to him between your index and middle finger.
“It’s—” Castiel started to say.
“Just take the damn card. I need to flex somehow and show how successful I became,” you cut in.
Castiel chuckled, taking the card from you. “Open, I’m assuming?”
“Me or the card?” you quipped.
His eyes crinkled and retorted, “I think that answers that.”
“It sure does.”
Pushing away from the counter, Castiel said, “I’ll check back in.”
You watched him walk away, eyes zeroed in unabashedly on his backside, bringing the glass up to your lips and taking a swig. Oh, yeah. He never skimped you on the alcohol.
Smacking your lips, you picked your pen back up.
Only a few minutes passed before someone leaned on the bar beside you, closer than what was comfortable. Looking up, you found a younger woman leaning on her elbow, looking down at you with disdain.
“Is there something I can help you with?” you questioned, raising your brows.
“Yeah, there is,” the woman said. “You’re making yourself comfortable with someone who isn’t available.’
Clearing your throat, you placed your pen down again. Jesus, Castiel. Who was he sleeping with now?
“Is that so?”
“Stop flirting with him.”
“On the contrary, he was flirting with me.”
The woman let out a bark of a laugh void of humor, “Right. Yes. He is naturally flirty. He is a bartender, it’s what he does and it’s how he gets tips. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s something more.”
The nerve of this idiot. If she only knew…
“Well, let’s make a deal,” you proposed, staring up at her with seriousness. “I’ll stop flirting. But, if I do, you gotta promise to not completely lose your shit when I go home with him still.”
Scoffing, the girl pushed herself up to stand tall. “I was trying to be polite about this, you bit—”
She was cut off by an all too familiar voice.
“Y/N. You are absolutely the last person I was expecting to see when I walked into this shithole tonight,” Maureen crowed from beside the pair of you.
You held the woman’s glare for a few more moments before tearing your gaze away to look at the aged woman. Maureen was one of Castiel’s regulars and it seems she was as regular as ever because she greeted the other woman, “Aspen.”
Her attention was back on you and your face broke into a smile trying to ignore the annoyance rolling around in the pit of your stomach, “Maureen, it’s been a long time.”
“It has,” she nodded in agreement. “What are you doing here? Trip?”
Shaking your head, you said, “No. I moved back.” You did not miss the slight twitch in Maureen’s face and you almost smirked in response. Almost. “Transferred back downtown. Same company, just better pay here for my position.”
“That’s wonderful,” Maureen said smiling but her smile did not quite reach her eyes.
She knew way too much about the past and you did not blame her for her reluctance to be truly happy about the news.
“You’ve said hi to Castiel, then, I’m assuming.”
“Yep,” you told her. You held up your glass and took a long drink. “Still remembered the regular. He has the memory of an elephant.”
Maureen chuckled, “He sure does. Aspen, want to accompany me over to the other side of the bar to wave them down for a couple shots? On me of course.”
Aspen was still glaring daggers through you, growing more and more upset with the unveiling of this friendly relationship between you and Maureen. You surmised she was quickly realizing you were more than just a woman who happened to just wander into the bar by chance tonight.
“Fine. Yeah, that sounds good,” Aspen finally said after what felt like forever. “Nice to meet you, Y/N.”
It was anything but a pleasure by the tone of her voice.
“Likewise.”
“I’ll be seeing you around,” Maureen told you and you nodded in acknowledgment.
The two of them walked off and you glared at Aspen’s back. What a conceited, entitled bitch. Now you were more determined than ever to take Castiel home tonight.
“Not that I have to try hard,” you muttered to yourself, picking your pen up for the third time tonight to try to focus on your report.
<> <> <>
At the other end of the bar, Maureen turned Aspen towards her and demanded, “What were you talking to Y/N for?”
“She was flirting with Cas!” Aspen spat at her. “And how the hell do you know her?”
Sighing loudly, Maureen said, “She used to live here.”
“I gathered that much.”
“Hey, cut the attitude. I’m trying to help you!” Maureen retorted, her tone tight. “Give Castiel space tonight. Trust me.”
“Okay, I—”
“You are sleeping with Castiel. Casually. Right? Unless something has changed recently?” Aspen’s silence spoke volumes and Maureen leaned in closer. “Trust me. Even if Castiel is a good lay, that –” she shot a look across the bar in Y/N’s direction. “Is not worth whatever drama you are going to be drowning in trying to hold onto his bed.”
“So, they’re a thing?” Aspen demanded.
Chuckling darkly, Maureen told her, “A ‘thing’ would be an understatement. Her and Castiel are absolutely toxic for each other. But, you know, like most toxic relationships, the two dancing just can’t seem to stay away from each other, no matter how many times they get burned or the damage they inflict on each other. No one can keep them apart from each other if they don’t want to be. And I’m going to guess – not to hurt your damn feelings – that Castiel is going to be occupied tonight.”
Aspen flicked her gaze to Castiel and jealously licked at her insides seeing him watching Y/N as he worked, his interest evident even as she was merely bent over her notebook writing away.
“We’ll see about that,” Aspen told Maureen.
Maureen groaned and waved her off, “Fine, if you won’t heed my word.”
Aspen pushed her way to the bar and pulled her shirt down, exposing the tops of her breasts before leaning on the bar.
“Hey, Cas,” she called sweetly as he neared.
Castiel gave her a smile, “Hey, Aspen. What can I grab you?”
“Uh, two shots of whiskey. On Maureen’s tab.”
Cocking an eyebrow, Castiel asked, “Maureen know about that?”
“Of course. I’m not a thief,” Aspen giggled, leaning further in.
Castiel set to pouring the shots, flipping the glasses onto the counter. “Well?” Aspen nodded and he teased, “Well, at least you’re a considerate thief if you are one. That’ll be a lesser dent in the bill.”
Aspen laughed at this and bit her lip, watching him put the bottle back down. He placed the shot glasses in front of her and she asked, “What are you up to tonight?”
Castiel froze only for a moment but she saw it, and in that moment knew that what Maureen said was right.
Clearing his throat, Castiel said, “I’ve got plans.”
“With what?” she pressed.
Fixing her with a gaze, Castiel said, “Stuff, Aspen.”
Clenching her jaw, Aspen picked up the shot glasses from the counter. “Right. Sorry that I asked.” Before Castiel could say anything else, she turned on her heel.
“So?” Maureen asked.
“Shut up and take this with me,” Aspen snapped, handing her the shot glass.
<> <> <>
A couple hours passed, small talk shared between you and Castiel in-between customers. He refilled your drink twice. You explained you were working on a report and he teased, asking if you could do it accurately with that much alcohol in you. You retorted to not underestimate your functioning alcoholism.
When he appeared again, he held out a fourth drink.
“This one is on the house.”
“I already told you –”
“Hey, I gotta be able to flex too right?”
Relenting, you took it from him. “Is this the only thing I’m getting from you tonight, Cas?”
“Absolutely not if you keep looking at me like that.”
Castiel’s smile was wolfish as he turned away from you and you felt butterflies. It was getting close to midnight. You hoped it was still true he never stayed past midnight, leaving that to his employees to finish up the last couple hours and close up the bar.
Aspen was at the bar again trying to talk to Castiel and you rolled your eyes watching the scene unfold. She looked far drunker than when she had spoken to you. It was blatant that she was flirting with him and becoming frustrated with his lack of reciprocity. And soon she was speaking loudly, and you doubted anyone in the bar was unable to hear the conversation from her end at least.
“Are you fucking serious?” she exclaimed over the music, her hands planted on the counter.
Two other women – Maureen was nowhere in sight – were at her back, trying to pull her away from the bar.
Castiel shook his head, ignoring her as he turned around and began punching on his cash register. Aspen was still trying to talk to him, but he was zeroed in on cashing her out.
He placed her card and the receipt in front of her with a pen. “Oh, fuck you, Castiel,” she slurred, snatching up her card. “I’m not leaving you a f-fucking,” she hiccupped. “Tip.”
Castiel said something in return, by reading his lips it was something along the lines of, “That’s fine. Just go home.”
“I’m not going the fuck home, Castiel. You’re being a jerk. I’ll find another bar.”
The women were trying to corral her away from the bar to the door no doubt.
She was resisting her friends, trying to get her credit card into her purse as they pushed her along. “Telling me I’m drunk. Kicking me the fuck out? Who the hell does he think he is?”
Aspen spotted you staring at her out of everyone else who was watching, and she pointed at you. “And that’s the fucking SLUT right there!”
Eyes were zeroed in on you now and despite yourself, you felt heat creeping up your neck.
“Latonya, get her home, will you?” Castiel called out and one of the girls helping her along promised Castiel she would, which made Aspen start swearing at her now as they forced her out the door onto the street. The bouncer moved into the doorway in case she decided to try to come back in.
“Jesussss. Haven’t seen her that drunk in a long while,” Maureen sounded from beside you and you jumped.
“Christ, Maureen. Announce yourself or something, huh?” you snapped, picking up your drink and taking a long drink trying to forget that you had just been called out in front of an entire bar by a drunken floozy.
“You’re already causing waves and you’ve only just returned,” Maureen told you, leaning in and you smelled the beer on her breath.
“I can see that,” you said sourly.
Maureen laughed before leaving you alone again. Scowling, you downed the rest of your drink, now praying Castiel was leaving soon so you could get out of here.
He was approaching you and told you sincerely, “Sorry about that.”
“Nice friend you have there.”
“I think you know what that was.”
“Sure do. Apparently, I’ve got competition.”
“I wouldn’t call it that.”
Snorting, you asked, “Right. Speaking of that, you still in the same spot?” Castiel pointed at the ceiling and you smiled. “Good. We don’t have to go far. When I said I hadn’t unpacked, I should have said that I haven’t because all my shit is in storage still and I’m staying at a hotel currently.”
It was Castiel’s turn to snort. “I would think you would try to look for a place before moving back.”
“I mean, I did. But then I thought that I might already have a place…” The alcohol was making you bolder to divulge your true thoughts.
Castiel caught your meaning. “That was mighty presumptuous of you.”
“I guess,” you shrugged sheepishly. “But then again, I thought I would already be on my back on the stockroom floor by now too.”
Castiel’s eyes flashed and you knew that had tipped things in your favor.
“Don’t leave. I’m off in a few. I’ll close your tab out.”
“Whatever you say,” you told him flirtatiously.
<> <> <>
You barely recognized his room when you stumbled in. Gone were the collection of beer cans and alcohol bottles, his ash tray was not in sight. Clothes were strewn around the room but there was a sense of cleanliness that was foreign to you. He had bought a proper bed, his mattress no longer on the floor. A large area rug covered the floor and you did not doubt that if you lifted the edge of it you would find the stains on the cream carpet where the two of you had spilled so many of your drinks and late night snacks.
His walls held proper framed posters; he had a lamp now, the only light illuminating the room right now. It was grown up. You had been surprised to see how tidy the rooms outside his room were and that had been jarring, but you had been sure you would find familiarity in here of all places.
“What are you looking at?” Castiel asked from behind you, his hands finding your sides, caressing.
“Where did my messy Cas go?” You asked turning in his arms, smiling up at him.
“You approve?” he murmured, kissing down your nose, his touches becoming deeper, squeezing you now to him.
You did. Really. It was a good change.
“Mhm, as long as you haven’t cleansed everything about yourself,” you teased, returning his nuzzle. Pulling away, you turned away from him again, tearing off your shirt and tossing it carelessly on the floor.
Castiel’s hands were at your bra before you could reach it, undoing the back without hesitation. He turned you around forcibly again and he grasped your face with one hand, yanking you to him, his lips crashing into yours. Your touches and clutches were desperate, wanting to explore every crevice and remember every curve of the other’s body that you had been deprived of for so long.
You fell into each other naturally, muscle memory helping you melt into the embrace. It felt like home.
His fingers were on the button of your jeans, tugging them down and you helped him kick them off.
Kneeling on the midnight blue, shag rug, Castiel kissed the hem of your thong above your sex before biting down. He pulled it down long enough to expose the top of your folds and he moaned lightly, inhaling. Hands on the sides he yanked the thong down your legs, tossing it aside when it was free.
Your leg hooked over his shoulder and his hot breath met you. His tongue was tantalizing, causing your fingers to grip his hair to pull him closer to encourage him to go deeper. His chuckle against your sex sent shivers through you and he obliged. A soft moan left you, closing your eyes to push yourself further into the sensation. Throwing your head back against the wall, you held onto Castiel’s head as his tongue explored your wet folds.
Castiel’s hands gripped your ass tight, holding you in place as he curled the coil in your core tighter and tighter with each passing second. A rough suck at your nub drew a cry and he flattened his tongue, licking you from bottom to top before delving inside. You rocked your hips as his speed increased chasing the high that was just out of your reach.
You were so close.
Then he pulled away and you exhaled in disappointment.
“You got something to say?” Castiel husked, staring up at you.
You remembered all your training. You nodded fervently, “Please, sir. I want to cum!”
“That’s my good girl,” Castiel growled before diving back in.
Shaking, you braced yourself as you came on his tongue. You rode his face through your climax, and he did not relent until you were done.
Castiel pulled away, his lips glistening. “That was a good one, angel.” You nodded breathless and he simpered in approval at your exhaustion. “Come down here while you’re still good and wet for me.”
You let him pull you down to the ground and Castiel climbed on top of you, smothering you with wanton kisses. His knees barred your legs from moving, holding you in place as he left a wet trail of nips down your neck to your breasts. You gasped when his teeth bit at your nipple, sucking it into his mouth.
“On your side,” he ordered you and you rolled over as he worked on freeing himself from his jeans.
When he slid in from behind, you held tight to his arms, moaning in tandem as you stretched around him. Castiel held your leg up as he built his pace. He was going to leave marks on your neck, and you did not give a shit. His hand slipped down to your pussy, rubbing your clit in tandem with his thrusts.
“Mhm, yes!” you groaned, arching your back.
“Who’s my good girl?” he growled against your ear.
“Me, sir!”
Your fingers dug into the rug, giving grounding as Castiel plummeted into you. He husked titillating things into your ear as he brushed your core, his speed on your nub increasing. You praised him, thanking him for fucking you so well, begging him to cum inside, and he groaned in pleasure.
Skin rubbing against the fibers of the rug, your breath quickened, begging Castiel to not stop.
Castiel’s arm locked against you when you clenched around him and he followed shortly after with a loud shout, emptying himself inside you. You keened feeling him twitch inside, relishing in his tight grip.
Relaxing back against him, you craned your neck to see him.
“Are we sleeping here?”
“No,” Castiel said sounding sleepy. “I’ll have you in a proper bed soon, angel, despite how comfortable this rug is. Just give me a minute more to relish in you.”
How you missed him and this. It was times like now that made you almost forget.
Almost.
You looked around the dimly lit room, trying to relax your breathing further.
Eyes landing near on the wall, you noticed the drywall was fixed on the right side of the bathroom, and memory seeped in. You remembered that fight in vivid spurts, the alcohol blotting out some of the other moments that had escalated tensions...
Castiel followed you into the room on your tail. Haphazardly, you threw his jacket off of you onto the ground, moving to go to the bathroom to take a shower in a vain attempt to maybe sober yourself up a little. You kept chastising him over your shoulder though, mocking him. “Oh, you’re a real fucking man, Castiel! You beat up a guy two inches shorter than you! And for what? Cause he asked me to dance?”
Castiel’s grip on your wrist was like a vice and you cried out, half in anger and half in annoyance.
“No, Y/N, because you had to go grind on him!” Castiel spat at you, his nose inches from yours.
“Jealous much? Can’t even let me fucking dance with someone else without going alpha.” You leaned in, scoffing. “You’re fucking crazy, Cas.”
“You did it on fucking PURPOSE, Y/N! To piss me off!”
“And?” you laughed shrilly, yanking away from him the split second he stared at you flabbergasted and picked up your beer can from the night before on his nightstand and taking a large swig. The beer was slapped out of your hand, spilling the contents on you and onto the carpet. “What the—” was all you got out before Castiel shoved you up against the wall.
“Well, it fucking worked. So, what now, Y/N?” He shouted in your face. “Huh? What was your big fucking plan! Tell me!”
Recovering, you donned a self-satisfied mask, not wanting him to get the better of you. Throwing your hands out sheepishly, you told him, “I just like winding you up. Sometimes it makes the sex better.”
Rage radiated off of him as he let out a half laugh, his smile more ferocious than anything. You barely registered his face drop before he cocked his arm back, his fist breaking through the drywall right next to your head.
“That how angry you like to make me?” He resumed yelling in your face, and you could not hide your shock, your mouth falling open. “Too far? Right there? You tell me, you manipulative bitch!”
Fury tore through you now that he even dared to do that. “Oh, you wanna hit me now, you asshole? Is that it?”
“Oh, fuck off, Y/N!” Castiel snarled at you, turning away from you, his fist white from the debris falling from the hole.
“You don’t just get to walk off now!”
“Back off!” Castiel shouted at you over his shoulder, walking out of the bedroom and slamming the door behind him so roughly it shook the frame.
Your hand was on the door handle, throwing it open to follow him. You were not finished with him yet…
It was patched like it had never happened, your memory serving as the only evidence it had ever been broken in the first place. Your eyes traveled around the room, taking in the memories from each corner of this room where you had spent such a substantial time. Each crevice held a memory, some good, some bad.
The past would not determine the future, you told yourself firmly. You would not let it.
Castiel had fallen asleep on the rug even though he had said he was not going to. Reaching up, you tugged the folded blanket off the end of the bed and threw it around the pair of you.
You snuggled in closer to him, holding onto his arm tightly, willing yourself to fall asleep comfortably in his arms.

CHAPTER ONE.
August 11th, 2019
If Adaline had to force another wide smile for an Instagram selfie to celebrate the bright and beautiful Summerslam week that ended, she was going to completely lose it. The only person who seemed to notice was Trinity and, stifling a laugh at her irritated mood, went out of her way to buy Adaline a drink to help her get through the night. She shot her a relieved look, as she pretended to listen to Nattie talk about her cats for the nth time and trying to stay away from the Total Divas cameras.
"Hey, Addie!" Turning around, she saw that it was Kyle to her rescue. He was waving her over, presumably to join his table on the other side of the restaurant. There, most of the NXT roster and personnel had isolated themselves away from the other talent from Raw and Smackdown.
A thin smile stretched across her face. "I'll be back, girl." A complete lie, as Adaline patted Nattie's shoulder and got up to join her stable mates.
There was a different vibe to the NXT people; the family image and reputation that was painted on the Performance Centre residents wasn't far from the reality. Everyone under the yellow brand stuck together like glue and looked out for one another, something that Adaline hadn't felt in years. Initially, when she was assigned to the roster after nearly ten years on the "main roster," the Canadian felt somewhat insulted. Sure, they wanted a vet to guide the women's division, but she knew it was an excuse for the fact that creative had absolutely nothing for her.
And then, she found out that she was getting put with the Undisputed Era.
Austin smirked when he saw her approach. "You looked like you wanted to die over there." He pulled out a chair for her, always the gentleman.
"Those stupid camera guys put me on edge whenever they're nearby," she grumbled, sitting down in between him and Bobby with her drink still at hand.
"Smile a little. We had a good show," Austin nudged her. "Plus, we're in your hometown."
It was the late hours of Sunday night and as soon as Summerslam went off air, nearly all, if not most, of the on air employees that took part in the event, as well as Takeover, decided to go to a local bar and grill to celebrate. Raw and Smackdown were to follow in the next two days, but they wanted to gather while the NXT talent was still in Toronto. The city was alive and bustling, even dipping into the morning, and so was the entire locker room. Normally, Adaline would embrace the energy and take the time to bask in her surroundings—ever since she moved to Florida, she was rarely home.
Then, they walked in.
Kyle had impeccable timing in calling her over because Adaline was sure that she would have completely frozen up if she was still sitting with Trinity on the other side of the restaurant. As soon as she saw the flash of fiery orange hair, she completely turned her body away from the entrance in the hopes that it would appear as though she didn't notice the pairing appear at all. However, it was hard to do so when a round of greetings emerged from the crowd of wrestlers, upon realizing that the newest company power couple had walked into the room.
"Colby! Becky! Come sit here!" If anyone's voice on the entire roster was going to fill up an entire room, it was Ron Killings. It boomed and demanded attention from the entire restaurant and most people looked up, especially when it was the two biggest faces of the company.
Initially, Adaline thought the only good part about getting moved to NXT was getting away from Colby. He was the only constant in her life for the past decade and moving away to only see him once every few months was. . .different. Ever since the breakup, she wanted to completely erase him from her mind. Sure, that was the game plan for the few times they'd broken up before in the past—which, by the way, horribly failed every time and was the reason why they always seemed to crawl back to each other—but, this time was different. This time, it was for good. Adaline didn't know just how serious that promise was until she heard through the locker room grapevine about them shortly after the Royal Rumble.
"It's natural," Renee had told her one night over dinner at her house. "You guys were together since you were eighteen. Letting go of your first love is hard, especially when you see them everyday at work."
With a mouthful of broccoli, Mox had thought it would be smart to add on. "Yeah, especially when he's walking around backstage with the new chick that he's sleeping with." Though it was meant to be a lighthearted comment towards his former group members, Renee slapped her husband upside on the head for it.
At the restaurant, the only people who didn't care about the couple's appearance—or at least, pretended not to care for Adaline's sake—were her fellow Undisputed members. Bobby and Kyle continued to shovel food into their mouths. Austin didn't even flinch. While the couple entered, Christopher reached over the table to show the group a picture that his son drew of the stable.
Chris grinned. "There's Kyle and Bobby, still with the tag belts, obviously." The duo were at the front and although they were basically scribbles, you could tell which one Kyle was because of the guitar pose that the stick figure held. "There's Austin, with his luscious locks. There's me, handsome as ever. And then, there's you—"
"Um, why don't I have any hair?" Adaline deadpanned, thinking that she was supposed to be Austin in the drawing.
The boys peered over and started laughing. Adaline was clearly the only girl with a pink triangle body for a dress, but was bald. She was in the back, beside Austin, and the five of them were in a square that she assumed was a ring.
Kyle ruffled her hair. "Because you went and made it all white, obviously." The once black haired beauty went all the way in her transformation last month, when she cropped her curly hair to her chin and dyed the locks silver. It was supposed to be a little bonus to her heel turn, but ended up becoming more of a metaphor for her career and being assigned to NXT after all this time.
"Yeah, there's clearly white crayon marks," Austin pointed out.
"What? Oh. My bad." Adaline chuckled a bit, leaning back into her seat. The banter helped distract her easily and she was thankful for that.
She had her reservations about being lumped in as the token female member of a stable again. By the time it was decided that the female was going to be sent to NXT, Adaline had only just recovered from her past in The Shield and worse—Seth Rollins' arm candy. After making history as Smackdown Women's Champion, she thought that this would only be the beginning to the peak. Wrong. Adaline dropped the title to Becky at Wrestlemania and was subsequently shipped off the brand, never to be seen again, until emerging as apart of Adam Cole's crew. She was over it and she hated having sit back and let the men take the spotlight.
But, this was NXT. It was 2019. Adaline had proven that she was a valuable asset to the company, especially after her two years away to share her talents in Japan and thus, creating a deep hole in the women's division of WWE of the time. She wasn't being inserted into the stable to be eye candy or a joke. And, honestly? Adaline loved being around the other Undisputed guys. She was an equal in the group and her time with them completely exceeded her initially low expectations.
Bobby peered over at Adaline, who was just sitting there. "Are you not going to eat anything?"
"No," was all she said.
"We had a good weekend, why are you so down?" he asked, as she called a waitress over to order another virgin mojito.
Adaline was the life of the party. She was capable of shining with the brightest smile in the room, always made sure everyone was included, and was capable of sharing anecdotes that captivated the attention of the entire group. Tonight, she was a shell of that woman.
She replied, "Well, you guys had a good weekend." Adaline's dejected mood came from the fact that she didn't even have a match at Takeover, barely had an impact. It was different now that she was on NXT, knowing full well how methodical and planned out the booking was, as opposed to last minute changes done by Vince on the fly. They simply did not have a place for her on the card and she instead accompanied her members to their matches to support them from the sidelines.
"It's building, Addie and you know that," Bobby pointed out. "You're next in the title picture." And he was right. People in the higher ups were rumoured to be quite high on the Undisputed Era and they wanted all of the group members to be pushed to the top of the pyramid of the brand. They were all next in the title picture, it was only a matter of time.
However, she just wasn't used to it. After being one of the mainstays in the women's division even before the so-called Divas Revolution, Adaline was used to staying at the top. It was a little bit arrogant, but she felt like she had earned her place.
"I know, I'm sorry. I'm just a bit bummed out since everyone else seemed to have had a better time than I did." She discreetly glanced over at the other side of the restaurant, where everybody seemed to be talking about the main event that Colby, the newly crowned Universal Champion, had put on.
The waitress came back with her drink and set it down in front of the Canadian. She thanked her and began sipping on it immediately.
The only person who caught Adaline's quick look towards Colby was Kyle, who slapped her wrist to distract her. "Stop it."
"What?"
"It." Kyle pointed at her with his fork with a cocked eyebrow, causing her to giggle. He knew her too well and didn't want her to dwell on her ex any longer.
She replied. "Whatever. I'm fine," Adaline insisted.
The five talked a little bit more for the next while and it remained on the relaxing side. She chose to not rejoin her friends on the other side of the restaurant for the fear that she would have to interact with Colby. Maybe it was stupid, walking on eggshells around him after almost a year since their breakup and it wasn't always like that, but then he went and started dating her friend. The dynamic was different and Adaline didn't know how to handle it. The awkwardness was natural, but she didn't think it would last this long. She missed Becky and to an extent, Colby, too. Together, though, it wasn't the same.
Upon looking at her phone, the clock eventually had run faster than Adaline anticipated, but the establishment was still open and the WWE personnel dining were still lively and going nowhere. She, however, had an early morning flight to Chicago that she'd been dreading since it was planned. The notion of what was waiting for her at her destination caused a knot to form at the pit of her stomach—selling her house. Adaline took one last swig of her drink, swallowing it down along with the thought.
"I have to go," she announced, which left the boys groaning in protest.
This caught the attention of some of the other NXT roster members. "Don't tell me you're already going," Candice tried her best puppy dog eyes on her from the other table. "We just got here!"
Adaline smiled sadly. "I'll see you guys in Winter Park soon." The next set of tapings weren't until the end of the week, but she was planning to get back as soon as possible. That all depended on how quick the process was going to be once landing in Illinois.
It seemed like she was one of the first ones to leave, as it was still within the first hour of everybody arriving. A chorus of goodbye's followed from the crowd. She stood up.
"Be safe," Christopher said, also standing up to give her a quick hug. Among all of the Undisputed guys, Adaline saw him as a big brother figure the most. He'd known her since she was an annoying eighteen year old who demanded the wrestling world at the palm of her hand—now, she was just an annoying thirty year old who demanded it.
She hugged him back, waved at Kyle, and ruffled Bobby and Austin's hair. "Bye, boys." They responded with their own farewells, dejected that she was leaving so soon—as if the five never left each other's sides in Florida already.
The last beast of the night that Adaline had to conquer was grabbing her purse. It was abandoned when she left for the Undisputed boys and remained nestled beside Trinity at her original table. The occupants also included Jonathan, Nattie, TJ, Claudio, and Stephen. All she had to do was walk past the table before them. It wasn't that hard.
Speeding past them, Adaline could swear that she felt a burning sensation at the back of her head and she could only pray that it was just her imagination and not either Colby or Becky staring. It'd been months since they went public with their relationship and Adaline had effectively avoided talking to either one of them unless she absolutely had to. Maybe it wasn't very mature of her, but confronting that reality was painful and awkward. She tried to relax her body, remaining natural, as she approached her destination.
Claudio was the first one to notice her and must've thought that she was coming over to join them because he scooted over to leave a space for her. Instead, Adaline shook her head and instead leaned over to pick up her small purse wedged in between Nattie and Trinity.
"Already? What time is your flight?" Trinity frowned, watching her friend.
Adaline sighed. "In three hours. I'm just gonna grab my things and haul my ass straight to the airport, so I can sleep on the plane."
Another chorus of farewells emerged. The night was finally over and Adaline seemed to have the least amount of energy out of everybody in the room. Most of them had what was going to be, as it always was, a rowdy Raw show to look forward to tomorrow night. There was still a buzz in the air and she truly wanted to indulge in it, but there was just so much on her mind.
Her lack of spot on the card. Colby. Selling the house that she made home with him. Her upcoming contract negotiations. She just needed some alone time in her rental car with the windows all the way down and the music all the way up.
Maybe not alone.
Upon exiting the restaurant, the midnight summer chill planted a kiss on Adaline and she shivered slightly. That's when she felt the draping of a worn, light jacket over her shoulders. Taken aback, she turned around and was faced with Austin's icy blue eyes. He smiled slightly, his eyes disappearing into crescents.
"Hey."
She raised an eyebrow. "Hey." Then, she hadn't even realized it, but he snatched her keys away from her. "Hey!" Adaline yelled this time, but he was already gone.
Austin said, "I saw you having a drink. Better safe than sorry, right?" He'd already unlocked her rental car and she began jogging towards him.
"You really don't have to," she stated, even though she knew he wasn't going to take no for an answer.
A year ago, there was no way she could've imagined being in this position. Adaline wouldn't have even dreamed of being friends with Austin once again. Yet, she was standing here, fresh off of a Takeover of all things. She couldn't believe it. Something told her that this wasn't the end of this rollercoaster ride and she squeezed her eyes shut, trying to not lose herself in the daze.

I barely recognize you when you wake up in the morning Must be someone else's eyes that I look into every night
You're only kind when you're all fucked up You're only mine till your high is gone
But I wish you'd still love me when your drugs wear off in the morning

-ASPEN-
Nox finally left and we were stocked up on all of our party favors. I didn’t expect for Austin to put me on the spot like that, so I just chose the ones we’d been taking. I trailed a fingertip along the granite countertop then tapping it a couple times, “So… what’s this ‘deal’ you and Nox have going?” I asked, genuinely curious.
“It’s none of your business.” Austin replied bluntly, filtering through the stash. I knitted my brows at his tone, then observing his stiff body language – sharp, broad shoulders and angular, clenched jawline. In the short amount of time I had known him, I’d never seen or heard him like that. His voice was usually soft, gentle.
“Okay…” I trailed off, “You feeling alright?”
His jaw somehow clenched even tighter than it was before, and his brows angled downward not even looking at me. “Yeah, I’m fucking fine.” He spat back and cracked open one of the new bottles of Percocets, pouring some into his hand and knocking them back with a swig of his water bottle.
I pressed my lips together into a straight line, “Got it.” I nodded, nervous to press any further. Of course, I’d had men talk to me like that many times before, but it wasn’t something I ever expected from him. Nox must’ve really gotten under his skin.
We went about our day as we had for the past couple weeks, getting high. The only difference was that he barely talked to me, he rarely even looked at me.
Tumblr media
That went on for the next few weeks. I even went home a couple times from how unwanted I felt or how much we fought. Each time I was sure it would be the end of our little affair, but he’d always call me the next day and beg for me to come back. And I’d always return because well, he was fun, most of the time – when he was good, when we were high. He made me laugh harder than I thought possible and actually looked at me like a human. He didn’t look right through me like most people did, like most men did. He didn’t look at me like a sex object, he saw me for me. You really get to know someone when you’re on constant benders together and he never shied away from any of my demons, and I didn’t shy away from his.
We were good when we were good, under any other circumstances, in any other life, we’d be perfect for each other.
In another timeline, this would be love.
Then he’d flip like a dime, and I could barely recognize him. Especially in the mornings, god the mornings were the worst – before he got any substance in his body, when he was freshly sober. Or when we ran through our stashes.
Like yesterday when we ran out everything –
A pillow flew past my calf, but I dodged it with a swift hop over. He raked fingers through his overgrown dirty blonde hair, “I know you took them Aspen just fucking tell me.” He growled.
I shook my head, pulling my arms into myself while I watched him stalk towards me, “I didn’t Austin, you know I didn’t. I don’t even like them!” My voice coming out weaker than I would’ve liked.
“So, you’re saying I was the one who finished this whole bottle in 5 days?” Holding up the empty bottle with his brows slanted down emphasizing just how sharp and hollow his features had become.
“Fuck, no – yes, I am. It was you Austin! I didn’t touch them!” I pleaded, hating the way my voice wavered. I didn’t dare correct him on that it had only been 3 days since our last re-up.
His features softened the closer he got to me, but his eyes stayed just as terrifying, “C’mon baby, it’s okay if you took them. Just tell me.” His fingers trailed down the underside of my arms so gently, taking my hands into his. “Okay? It’s okay, I just need them ‘Pen, just tell me where you put them.” His voice so calm, like the eye of a hurricane. It was a serenity wrapped in rumbling rage, just one slip away from destruction.
A burning sensation pooled tears in my exhausted eyes, I swallowed the knot that formed in my throat. Sure, he was a little scary like this, but he never hurt me. It wasn’t the fear that that put tears in my eyes. It was the Austin I could sense below the surface, the one I caught glimpses of – sweet, compassionate, funny, thoughtful, intelligent Austin. And it was the inherent sadness that was laced between each low, the melancholy looming beneath every word. I’d never met someone who hid so much pain behind such a bright smile. I didn’t see it right away, but when I did, I couldn’t unsee it.
I took a deep breath before running my hands up his arms, softly squeezing his biceps and looking into his lackluster blues rimmed with dark purple under eye bags. “Aus it’s okay, I’ll call Nox, and he can bring some more okay?” I felt him tense under my fingertips, as if he was about to erupt again but slumped instead. He nodded defeatedly, “Okay.” Then made his way to his bedroom, falling into bed, pulling the thick duvet over his head to block out the sunlight.
The meetings with Nox became more and more frequent. I couldn’t put my finger on it but something was off like there was some key puzzle piece I was missing. It made me feel like I was 7 years old again, getting kicked out of an all-boys club. Only the secrets weren’t about the best playground hiding spots anymore. It was an itch I couldn’t scratch, a word I couldn’t remember. And the more I asked, the more I prodded the more access I was denied.
Tumblr media
As I walked out of the bedroom, wrapped in an oversized towel and dripping wet hair, I could hear him talking to someone. Being my nosy self, I halted at the door to eavesdrop on the conversation.
“Yeah, I know I need to work harder,” He spoke, “I’m really trying.” Then a pause, telling me that he was probably on the phone. “Yeah- Well- I-“ He kept getting interrupted by whoever was on the other side of the line. “Yes, I’m rehearsing the script every day.”
I couldn’t quite remember what job he was working on but it didn’t matter, whoever he was speaking with was being lied to. I was with him almost everyday and I’d never seen that man pick up anything but substances, nonetheless a script.
“Yeah I know, I know.” I could practically hear his eyes rolling, “I got it.” His responses now curt and filled with exhaustion, “Love you too Dad. Say hi to Mom for me. Okay, bye.”
A couple beats after he ended the call, I stepped from the doorway. “Who were ya talking to?”
“My dad, not that that’s any of your concern.” He answered annoyed, clearly in one of his moods.
I took a moment before speaking again, wondering if I should even say anything. Then a vague memory popped into my head, “Didn’t you tell me that-“ I stopped myself before continuing, nervous of how he’d react.
“Tell you what?” His words were sharp and quick, sounding on edge. Much different from his voice on the phone just a bit earlier.
“Nothing, nothing.” I hastily backtracked, I must’ve been too high when he talked to me about his dad. Maybe I was mistaking it for someone else. “I’m gonna get changed.”
He didn’t even acknowledge my statement, his focus on making coffee in the kitchen. I wondered what exactly I was doing there,
Once in fresh PJ’s, I plopped myself onto the edge of the bed Austin normally slept on, the right side. When I went to grab my hairbrush from the nightstand, I spotted something that sent a chill through my bones – his phone.
I replayed the events of the last 15 minutes, between his phone call, our conversation, and me changing in the room, there was no point in which he would’ve been able to come in and drop his phone off. I had been in there the whole time.
My next natural thought path was to mentally check how high I was, maybe it was just me not remembering things or misunderstanding them. But I had surprisingly not taken or smoked anything all day since we slept in so late. I was sober. Completely and utterly sober.
I picked up the oversized iPhone, held it in my hands, then set it down. Took it back, tapping to wake the glass screen, then placed it down again. I picked it up once more, flipping it around in my hands contemplating going through it like some jealous girlfriend.
On one hand, his privacy was important. But, on the other hand, I wasn’t a jealous girlfriend I was a concerned not-girlfriend. I didn’t know what the fuck was going on. So, I decided to go against my instincts and unlock his phone – the code being predictable, what I had learned was Elsie’s birthday.
Like a good – faux – jealous girlfriend, I went directly to his texts, expecting to maybe find some texts to Elsie or his parents. But my brows curved at the wall of multiple conversations with unsaved numbers. When I heard some noise from past the bedroom door, I stilled quietly locking the phone and setting it down cautiously.
He never walked into the room and I stole the phone again and unlocked it, clicking on the most recent text thread to a random number.
“What?” I whispered as I scrolled through the one-sided gibberish-filled responses. Each message filled with sentences that made no sense or were flat out lies. Each reply to him read the same – ‘This number has been disconnected or is no longer in service.”
“What the fuck?” I exited the thread then clicked another a couple lines down, this one even worse. Some of the words made no sense or were straight up not words, not a coherent sentence in sight. It must’ve been when we were actually really high. “This makes no fucking sense.” My scrolls increased in speed the higher in the thread I got. The color of the bubbles changed from blue to green after various ‘you’ve got the wrong number’ and ‘leave me the fuck alone’ text messages.
Taking my bottom lip between my teeth, I contemplated my options.
Stay silent and observe him.
Directly ask him about it.
Or… well that seemed like the only two.
But if there was something actually wrong, we needed to address it immediately. So, option two it was.
I stood up and walked anxiously to the door, then back again, shaking the nerves from my hands. I took a deep breath before opening the door and slowly coming out. I was prepared to confront him, chest puffed out and everything, but he was gone.
I briefly took a pace around the seemingly empty apartment when at the end of my lap I found the front door wide open. With each oddity I found, it built up a prickling fear in my body. The buzzing dread ran through my bone marrow like coolant, chilling every molecule in my carcass. I didn’t know what I was scared of or why – I had no idea what exactly I was dealing with – but it terrified me nonetheless.
I peeked my head out the open door turning it side to side like I was about to cross a road. He was nowhere to be found and now I had no idea where he was or if his brain was just as scrambled as the messages in his phone.
“Okay.” I said to myself while exhaling and turning around to the kitchen. “Okay Aspen, it’s fine you can handle this.” Talking myself through my pacing over the linoleum floor. I wanted to be this not-girlfriend and handle it myself, but it wasn’t realistic. I’d only known Austin for a couple months, and most of it we were high, I knew virtually nothing real about him.
But I knew who did.
I unlocked his phone and went to his favorites list, knowing the person I needed would be there.
And she was.
She was the only one on the list.
I let out a deep exhale knowing this wasn’t going to be fun and clicked her name. It rang and rang until it hit voicemail. “Augh!” I groaned impatiently, the time seemed to be thinning through some impending hourglass. I called again, this time going directly to voicemail. Again, voicemail, again, voicemail, back to back. “Fuck!”
Then in some stroke of genius I had the idea of calling her number from my phone – and it worked.
“Hello?” Answered a cautious voice from the other end.
“Hi.” I replied nervously, knowing that I was probably the last person she wanted to hear from.
“Aspen?”
“Yeah, um, I-“
“Listen, I don’t need some jealousy spiel-“ She began, rightfully thinking I’d be some ‘you can’t talk to your girl best friend’ girlfriend.
“It’s not that.” I interrupted urgently. “It’s Austin.” I stated quietly, nervously.
There was a pause, “What happened.”
I exhaled a breath I didn’t know I was holding and her recognition was like someone lifted the plug in an overflowing bathtub. Salty water filled my eyes and a quiver took hold of my voice, “Something is wrong.” was all I could manage. “I think I need your help.”
Elsie took a breath, “What happened.” She repeated, sounding frustrated but mostly concerned.
“I-I don’t know – He just, he left and-and,” The tears now flowing and my voice noticeably cracking, “He was just acting strange, and I don’t know where he is Elsie.” I sobbed, “Please, I don’t know what to do.”
I heard a rustle on her end, it was 11 pm and she was probably in bed. “Okay, strange how? – I’m changing and I’ll be on my way.”
“Well, I got out of the shower and I overheard him talking to someone…” I trailed off, steadying my breathing.
“Okay, who Aspen? C’mon I’m gonna need you to get it together.” She snapped hurriedly. It was clear she was just as, if not more, rattled by the situation as I was.
“Well, I-I overheard him talking to his Dad but I could’ve sworn he told me-“
“Wait, wait his dad?” She interjected immediately, “Are you sure that’s what you heard? You heard him say Dad?” Her demeanor significantly more urgent than before.
“Yes-Yes, I heard him clear as day. He said, ‘I love you Dad, say hi to Mom for me’.” Trying to emphasize the validity of my concern.
“Fuck,” She sighed, the locking click of her door loud in the background. “Okay, um, meet me in the city, I think I know where he is.”
Tumblr media
When I arrived to the location Elsie had dropped me, I stood in front of a random diner named Harry’s Diner. My arms were wrapped around my frail body freezing from the rain that was pouring down over me the entire way there. I stood under the awning looking for Elsie when I saw her through the diner window, already inside talking to a waitress. From her body language I could tell it wasn’t good news. She noticed me and made her way over, the door dinged a bell when she pushed it open.
“He’s not in there.” She sighed defeated, “The waitress said that he was, but he left.”
“Fuck,” I let out, “Why would he come here? It’s just a random restaurant-”
“It’s not.” She cut me off sternly. “It doesn’t matter, that’s not important right now.” Waving off the details, “He just always ends up here.”
“Okay.” I shivered not wanting to push further. “Well, where the fuck else would he be?”
“I don’t know.” She sighed, bringing a hand to run through her wavy locks. The stress in the air between us was practically tangible.
Suddenly, I heard some rustling from behind us. “Do you hear that?” I whispered.
Elsie perked out her ear silently searching for the noise I was hearing, “Yeah I do.” Then the noise began to sound like whimpering, sobbing. “I think it’s coming from the alley.” Nudging her shoulder in the direction of it.
I nodded a silent agreement to quietly and cautiously walk over to check. In New York at midnight, an odd noise could be anything. Once we peeked past the wall, it was Austin, drenched in freezing rain, curled around himself pacing back and forth. Out of the corner of my eye I caught Elsie squeeze her eyes shut like she was preparing for the worst. It was evidently that she’d seen this before, he’d been here before. They’ve been here before.
We stepped towards him careful not to spook him off. “Austin.” Elsie whispered softly, catching his attention.
He looked up apprehensively, like a scared alley cat. Once he recognized her, he immediately went to her.
He went to her.
There was no hesitation, no second thought as he landed into her, sobbing into her shoulder.
She held him tight, rubbing his back quickly to warm him up. He was only in a plain white t-shirt and some sweatpants, exactly what he was wearing at home. He was shivering, teeth chattering, and his soaked clothes stuck to him like glue. His skin was so cold and pale, he was nearly purple and blue.
There was pain in both their bodies, I could feel it. Almost like they were feeling the same hurt together.
I knew from the beginning that there was something between them, but until now I didn’t realize just how special it was. I called it from the beginning. I knew it the moment I saw the way she looked at him, the way he looked at her. If I could see it this vividly, why couldn’t they?
I told Austin from the start that I’m just the lesson girl, the fun girl, the one you date before you settle down with the ‘bring-home-to-mom girl’, and I was right. I was looking right at her.

Identifying a Ponzi Scheme and Scam Artists - Part III of III
III of III in this series of write-ups on Ponzi schemes will certainly check out a real world, recurring scam, the con man behind it and a few of the hundreds of financiers victimized by his criminal venture, Millennium III Corporation.
Background: At a very early age, Gregg Scott Luce was incorrectly converted that his Maine based blood line was directly connected to the storied Time-Life Henry Luce tradition. It's uncertain whether this misconception was instilled within him by personal mental deterioration or a collective domestic dementia. Luce fled his very dysfunctional household at age nineteen and also began trafficking in marijuana. Within a five year period, petty trafficking expanded to major circulation: freight planeloads of product, much of it brought in directly from Jamaica.
Tumblr media
10 years into this venture, Luce understood that a much higher earnings margin was to be recognized in trafficking drug. It was the very early 1980's and drug was a popular and accepted leisure drug amongst the establishment. There wasn't the preconception connected to the numbing that exists today. Luce was driven to the quick fix by rashness, an entrepreneurial spirit, fierce and also limitless ambition, and also an insatiable food craving for the acknowledgment, cash money as well as cache that had actually thwarted his household for the better part of a generation as it made every effort, futilely, to recognize itself with the opulent Time-Life Luce lineage.
Sociopathology, single minded emphasis as well as indifference to the body count in his wake, both actually and also figuratively talking, enabled Luce to establish a port of entrance circulation center in Seattle, Washington, and also quickly control the unclaimed US Northwest territory. Originating from a family of commercial fishermen, Luce was well versed in nautical maps. The Pacific Northwest's unclear, remote shoreline enabled unnoticeable ingress as well as egress of transport airplanes from Colombia. Luce leased a pier and houseboats off Lake Washington, hosting drug fueled parties often visited by popular location musicians, magnate, attorneys, politicians as well as lenders.
Within a five year period of time, the circulation network prolonged north to Canada and as far Southwest as Aspen, Colorado, where his cartel's administrative team supervise procedures. The growing company invested in a Nascar race group. Product was moved to merch decline points in trailers utilized to ferry vehicles and pit equipment from city to city.
Just like the majority of narco-centric companies, Luce's endeavor operated borrowed time. When the DEA and Feds separated the drug ring, all senior personnel, save for one person, got away. The captured operative rejected to transform state's evidence, permitting his associates to quietly seek other organisation opportunities. Luce took a two year hiatus lying low and pored over current financial trends. It was the early nineties and also the Nasdaq bubble had started to gestate. Silicon Valley, Boston, Austin as well as Seattle were the brand-new Wild West. Greed and also eco-friendly were in the air. In the fast paced globe of new media start-ups, the "alcoholic drink paper napkin to boardroom" standard ruled, as did drugs, violence, betrayal, and also lawful adjustment: or else known as 21st century company ideal techniques. Easy bargains were the money of success; futures contracts and also penny stocks were the new impact. The careful vetting of organisation strategies demurred to the haste of being first to market with a provided item. Venture capitalists indiscriminately bathed IT newcomers and veterans alike with more venture capital than most could reasonably want to match in profits. Boom-bust high tech gold fever remained in full force. Luce couldn't have scripted a much better meal right into legit organisation.
Ponzi System: Therefore marked Gregg Luce's introduction from the mob of medication trafficking to the organized crime of Wall Street. The starting of Millennium III Corp. (MIII) honored Luce's intro to Fortune 500 culture at the VC cotillion. In order to fly under the radar of SEC guidelines as well as regulatory authorities, the recently minted Chief Executive Officer of MIII, a broadband media streaming business, limited his initial investor swimming pool to thirty-five non-accredited investors. He later broke the SEC Regulation 505 exception provision with inclusion of an additional 10 capitalists As opposed to concern shares to capitalists, Luce provided "exchangeable note car loan arrangements": a tool exchangeable to either buybacks or shares in MIII at growth. Luce took his hurt service version an action even more, saying the company maintained a non-profitable count on that protected investor monies. In this and succeeding cons, Luce suggested, with poetic license, that the first business form would certainly somehow morph into a "bank", thus making sure the liquidity of MIII's funding funds and also the protection of financier cash.
In keeping with Millennium III's smoke and also mirrors business structure, its Chief Executive Officer was functionally uneducated in New Modern technology: the company's core item offering. Luce was able to effectively pass himself off as an IT avatar by surrounding himself with skilled, authentic technology professionals, providing the Ponzi system with a patina of authenticity. He preserved an entourage of tech wise breakthrough people, lest his shareholders and also customers recognize that the emperor had no clothes.
Seven years after the beginning of MIII, I was preserved to review intellectual property problems. Roughly twelve months right into my job, original note owners started contacting me, expressing worry that they had received no yearly declarations from MIII-- for that matter, no interaction whatsoever from the board of supervisors or corporate police officers for a number of years. More uncomfortable, to a male, every investor had actually required buyback upon growth of their exchangeable note funding contracts. Luce declined to recognize the cosigned promissory notes. The paper trail showed Luce made use of money from the non-accredited investor pool to line his own pockets, and cash from brand-new financiers to pay gotten staff members that held supply choices; consequently, perpetuating the ruse. A textbook definition of the classic Ponzi scheme with a small twist: making use of cash from new investors to pay dividends to initial investors.

New algorithms to determine eigenstates and thermal states on quantum computers

Determining the quantum mechanical behavior of many interacting particles is essential to solving important problems in a variety of scientific fields, including physics, chemistry and mathematics. For instance, in order to describe the electronic structure of materials and molecules, researchers first need to find the ground, excited and thermal states of the Born-Oppenheimer Hamiltonian approximation. In quantum chemistry, the Born-Oppenheimer approximation is the assumption that electronic and nuclear motions in molecules can be separated.
A variety of other scientific problems also require the accurate computation of Hamiltonian ground, excited and thermal states on a quantum computer. An important example are combinatorial optimization problems, which can be reduced to finding the ground state of suitable spin systems.
So far, techniques for computing Hamiltonian eigenstates on quantum computers have been primarily based on phase estimation or variational algorithms, which are designed to approximate the lowest energy eigenstate (i.e., ground state) and a number of excited states. Unfortunately, these techniques can have significant disadvantages, which make them impracticable for solving many scientific problems.
A research collaboration between the groups of Garnet Chan, Fernando Brandao, and Austin Minnich at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) has recently led to the development of three new algorithms that could help to overcome the limitations of existing phase estimation and variational methods. These algorithms, dubbed quantum imaginary time evolution, quantum Lanczos and quantum METTS algorithms, were presented in a paper published in Nature Physics.
“Determining ground, excited and thermal states is of course an important problem in quantum computing, but the algorithms to tackle it on contemporary hardware typically require important quantum resources, such as deep quantum circuits (i.e. comprising many quantum gates, and thus prone to decoherence and imperfect implementation) and ancillary (i.e. additional) qubits—or non-linear noisy classical parameter optimizations,” Mario Motta, one of the researchers who carried out the study, told Phys.org.
The key aim of the recent study carried out by the researchers at Caltech was to develop new quantum algorithms for determining ground, excited and thermal states on quantum computers. The researchers tried to circumvent the practical limitations of existing techniques for computing Hamiltonian states by leveraging notions from classical computer physics, such as imaginary-time evolution, exact diagonalization and finite-temperature state sampling, ultimately extending these notions to quantum computing algorithms beyond what previously accomplished.
“Our algorithms are based on the notion of imaginary-time evolution, which is akin to a cooling process,” Motta explained. “Suppose that we can prepare a quantum mechanical system in a simple but inaccurate approximation for the ground state, a trial wave function. By applying this cooling process to the system, we can systematically remove spurious excitations from the trial wave function, thereby gradually approaching the ground state. This is the content of the quantum imaginary-time evolution (QITE) algorithm.”
The three algorithms developed by the Caltech researchers are somewhat similar to classical techniques for finding ground and excited states. By collecting information as imaginary-time evolution unfolds, however, these algorithms can formulate and solve an eigenvalue problem that provides access to specific excited states, employing a quantum variant of the Lanczos approach, a well-established mathematical technique to compute eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
“Of course, imaginary-time evolution can also be used to cool a system from infinite to finite (greater than zero) temperature, and thus to compute finite-temperature properties, as we do in our QMETTS algorithm,” Motta said.
The quantum imaginary time evolution algorithm and Lanczos algorithm proposed by the researchers have several advantages over existing and classical techniques. For instance, as they are rooted in physical intuition, they can be implemented on contemporary quantum hardware and do not require deep circuits, ancillary qubits and complicated parameter optimizations, which are indispensable for other quantum algorithms.
“The most meaningful achievement of our study was the conception of a suite of new algorithms for the study of many-many-body systems on contemporary quantum computers,” Motta said. “Our algorithms bring useful insights to the Physics field: in particular, they show how the combination of ideas and techniques from different fields of science can be synergistically combined to produce innovative techniques.”
In their study, Motta and his colleagues demonstrated the effectiveness of the algorithms they developed by implementing them on the Rigetti quantum virtual machine and Aspen-1 quantum processing unit. In these demonstrations the algorithms performed remarkably well, comparing favorably to existing techniques for computing Hamiltonian ground, excited and thermal states.
The new algorithms developed by this team of researchers could be used in a variety of studies that involve quantum simulations and optimization. In addition, they could be refined and extended to meet the needs of individuals research projects.
“Our future research will be directed towards expanding the predictive power of the algorithms we developed,” Motta said. “For example, by computing properties beyond the energy, such as density operators and correlation functions, and devising systematic and efficient strategies to study arbitrary many-body systems (comprising bosons and fermions, with particular emphasis on molecules).”

Watch Me Burn (P.7)
Title: Watch Me Burn (Part Seven) Summary: Fem!Reader x AU!Cas. Words: 3,076 Warnings (for the fic in entirety): Extreme angst, domestic violence, smut, unprotected sex, dom/sub dynamics, BDSM trust breaking, fluff, language, alcohol abuse, !!! eventual !!! happiness
Chap 6 || Chap 8 || Fanfic masterpost || Masterpost (mobile)
Sam walked in with Dean and you locked eyes only briefly before turning your gaze back to Castiel.
“He’s here. Longer hair,” you said quietly, barely audible above the music. Castiel threw a glance in his general direction and cocked an eyebrow. “I know, I know.”
“He’s coming,” Castiel warned you quietly, before saying at a normal volume to not arise suspicion, “This should be a fun night though for you guys.”
Suddenly, Sam was at your side. He had switched his jacket out for a button up cardigan over his dress shirt, his tie gone. It made him stick out in this bar, but you knew that was his attempt at dressing down.
“What are you ordering?” he asked you, leaning in close. You guessed he was purposely ignoring Castiel; he was good at making people feel invisible.
Castiel was staring at Sam, a piqued expression that only you would be able to recognize. It was not exactly a tight-lipped smile but close to it.
“Uh, I haven’t yet. I was just talking to Cas,” you said, gesturing at him standing opposite the bar.
Turning his attention to Castiel, Sam gave a nod of acknowledgment. “Sam,” he said, holding out his hand. “Worked with Y/N back in Austin.”
Castiel, thankfully, knew to play it cool. He reached out, taking Sam’s hand in turn, giving it a shake. The two of them held on a couple seconds longer than necessary, eyes piercing the other.
“I’ve heard,” was all Castiel said calmly in return.
You did not miss the slight raised brow Sam displayed at Castiel’s comment, no doubt wondering how much Castiel knew. He brushed the comment off quickly though.
“What are you going to order then, Y/N?”
“Probably a double whiskey with diet,” Castiel answered for you, throwing you a small smirk. He picked up the glass and went to work without waiting for you to confirm. It was your go to, that was correct. But you knew he was trying to prove a point to Sam by not even asking you. He knew you better, he wanted Sam to know that.
“Hmm. Whiskey,” Sam said surprised, rising his brows in surprise. “Far different than all the Paloma’s I’ve seen you down. Too many too count.”
Castiel snorted, drawing Sam’s attention. “What? Was she trying to get wasted? Y/N can’t handle her tequila very well.” He placed your whiskey in front of you.
Giving a small nervous laugh at their surreptitious shots at the other, you said, “Yeah, that’s true. But I paced myself.”
“Sometimes,” Sam quipped. You narrowed your eyes slightly at him and he chuckled. “Sorry. Right, you never got drunk. Ever.” He winked at Castiel across the bar. “I’ll take a Tom Collins.” You made a disgusted face and Sam chided you, “Yeah, yeah. I know. You hate gin.”
“Thanks,” Sam told Castiel. “I’ll see you at the table then, Y/N.”
Sam turned and left your side. When you met Castiel’s eyes again, he cocked a brow.
“I have a lot of questions,” he told you before walking off to take someone else’s order. You waited for him to return after a few minutes and cut in quickly.
“I know, I know. He’s pretentious.”
“You could say that again. What is he even wearing?”
You laughed a little and said, “That is him – and Dean, to be honest – trying to be casual. I can assure you.”
“So… not what I would expect from you.”
“There’s probably a reason why it didn’t work out.”
“I can think of a couple reasons, actually,” Castiel responded, throwing a glance over at where your coworkers were sitting.
Snorting, you nodded in agreement, “I know.” You took a drink of your whiskey and raised your glass half heartedly to him. “Here goes nothing. I can’t promise he will behave himself, but I’ll do my damndest to stay away.”
“Don’t think that’s possible with the seating arrangement at the table now. Looks like the only empty seat is next to him,” Castiel said sounding sour.
“Of course,” you muttered, turning around, and seeing what he said was true. You forced yourself to walk towards the table.
Playing it cool, you thanked Sam when he pulled the chair out from beside him to allow you to sit down.
“I ordered a couple of baskets of fries for the table and some deep-fried pickles,” Charlie informed you. “I told everyone that the burger is solid but if they are looking to be adventurous, that tater tot pizza is also good.”
“How much did you eat last time you were here?” Dean asked jokingly.
“Oh, shove it. I’ve been here a couple times with Y/N. It wasn’t all in one shot,” Charlie returned. “Thankfully, they live upstairs and I was able to crash on the couch one time! Don’t judge me, Tara, it was on a Friday!”
Tara held up her hands, “I wasn’t going to. I know you’re responsible.”
“Upstairs?” Sam questioned you.
You nodded, “Yeah. The floor above. It’s convenient.”
“Very,” Tara agreed and then asked, “But, do you not get sleep sometimes?”
“It’s fine most of the week. Fridays and Saturdays are a little wild, but I’m used to it. It’s nothing new. I’ll finally fall asleep in the early morning and can sleep in.”
“I would indulge so much in bar food, I would probably gain fifty pounds,” Charlie joked.
“Same,” your coworker Sahir agreed, raising his glass to which him and Charlie took a quick drink.
“I make sure that doesn’t happen. I meal plan,” you assured her. “It’s one thing I had to set right when I moved in. He was eating like absolute shit. I told him no one really likes quinoa, but his body will thank him.”
“Ew, gross,” Charlie said, her nose scrunching. “I hate quinoa.”
“It’s a power food, Charlie,” Sam told her.
“Don’t care.”
“I gotta agree with Sam and Y/N. Although, still with you, Charlie. I don’t like it but sometimes you gotta suck it up and play chess, not checkers, with your health,” Tara chimed in.
“Exactly!” Sam agreed. He turned his attention to you and asked, “You still on that 5 on, 2 off?”
He was referring to the exercise program you had been on while in Austin. One that he had strongly encouraged to get yourself in shape, something that was extremely personally important to him. You knew you could never be as fit or healthy as him and had tried to please him for a while.
Shrugging, you said, “More like… 3 to 4 on… maybe one of those days being yoga only. To keep flexibility.” Charlie snorted into her drink and you cocked your head. Sahir and Jennifer laughed as well and you demanded, “What?”
“Just… I make everything sexual,” Charlie laughed.
“Jesus, Charlie,” Tara said, but smirking despite herself.
Charlie apologized whilst laughing.
The food was delivered, more drinks, and even more jokes shared. Sam was leaning in close the whole time, his eyes roaming freely and Castiel was most certainly keeping an eye on you across the bar. You tried to stay straight up, not leaning yourself towards Sam while still maintaining a calm demeanor. Sam, outwardly, was not seeming to notice.
Your attention was drawn to the door as you saw Aspen walk in and you suppressed the urge to roll your eyes. All you needed tonight was her flaunting herself around Castiel when you were already high strung. You knew it was normal for her to go to the bar for a drink, but you knew it was Castiel she was aiming for.
Sam’s arm slipped around your shoulders, drawing your attention back.

“Hey, Cas,” Aspen chirped, leaning on the bar.
Castiel greeted her and asked how she had been since he had not seen her since the first night Y/N had come back. He was not surprised considering the air in which she had left in.
Holding out her credit card, Aspen said, “My regular, I think, to start out.”
When she looked back was the moment Sam’s arm slipped around Y/N’s shoulders. He pulled her towards him, close in proximity. Aspen rose her brows in surprise and looked back at Castiel who was placing her drink down in front of her.
“Wow, uh, who’s with Y/N?”
Castiel’s gaze moved over to the table and his jaw tightened when he saw Sam’s arm around her. Y/N was forcing a smile as she spoke to him.
“Coworker,” Castiel answered tightly.
“Oh…” Aspen trailed off, throwing another look over her shoulder. “All of them coworkers?”
“Yes.”
“They close…?”
Castiel pierced her with a stare and said, “I’m assuming you want your tab open?”
Aspen switched gears, nodding. “Yep. I’ll be here awhile. Maureen agreed to drive me home… if need be.”
“How kind of her,” Castiel chuckled lightly, purposely ignoring her insinuation.

“Remember when Larson fell down those stairs outside The Outlook?” Sam asked you, his fingers pressing into your shoulder.
“Unfortunately,” you answered, smiling, trying to keep yourself from jerking away from his embrace.
“You tried so hard to get him to stop drinking. I mean, we all did. But it did fuck all to stop it.”
“Was he injured?” Dean asked, raising his brows.
Sam laughed, “Surprisingly, no! I don’t know how he just tucked and rolled, like his body was reacting defensively even in his state. The man could barely order a new drink. And that’s when the bartender was like, ‘nope, no more’. And cut the whole group off because they were afraid someone else would order him a drink and give it to him. Ruined our whole night. Well, momentarily.”
You stiffened then. That night was the first night the two of you had hooked up. That was the sole reason he had brought it up.
“The night continued after that for the rest of us after we got his drunk ass to bed.”
You noticed Castiel approaching the table. Thinking he was going to table touch, you asked Charlie quickly, “You want a refill?”
“Duh,” she said and then noticed Castiel. “Oh, hey! Perfect! Can I get a refill?”
Castiel gave a curt laugh and said, “When I get back. I’m on break. Y/N? Wanna come outside with me?”
“Oh, yeah,” you said quickly. You saw Sam watching you out of the corner of your eye as you pushed your chair back, his arm leaving you, and grabbed your jacket. “Don’t you need your coat? It’s chilly.”
“I’ll grab it on the way out,” Castiel responded as you came up to him. His arm slipped around you, guiding you away from the table. His hand was tight on your waist, protective.
Castiel did not take you outside. Instead, he led you to the back room and you followed his lead, a weight pulling down inside. You knew he was not pleased with how he was acting. As soon as he closed the door behind the two of you and locked it, he turned to face you. Getting in your face, he did not miss a beat.
“He’s been laying his hands on you all night.”
Throwing your hands out in defeat, you said, “I’ve tried skirting away, Cas. I can’t do that too much without making a scene though.”
“You’re not trying hard enough.”
Your mouth fell open.

“Charlie,” Maureen greeted approaching the table, two shots in hand as Tara, Sahir, and Jennifer went out for a smoke.
Charlie straightened up, a smile on her face. “Oh, hello! Maureen, right?”
Maureen nodded and said, “Just spotted you across the bar and thought I would pop by to say hi. We did have a good few rounds last time!”
Smirking, Charlie said, “I kind of remember.” This caused Maureen to laugh, as well as the other people at the table.
“I just thought I would bring this over for you. Rum, right?”
“Oh, yeah. You got that for me?” Charlie asked surprised.
Maureen nodded, “You bought me one last time and I did not reciprocate. I hold pretty strong convictions about that. Speaking of which, I saw Y/N and Cas leaving out the back. He’s not off work yet, is he? He still owes me a shot since someone spilled mine at last call last time I was here, and I won’t be able to cash in without him.”
Charlie shook her head, “No, he went on his break and asked Y/N to go with him.”
Maureen snorted, “I wouldn’t be surprised to see them come back flush.”
Sam’s jaw clenched ever so slightly.
“They always had their ways in the past.”
Charlie let out a laugh, “Oh, do tell.”
“Just leaving to go… relieve themselves.”
“Maybe we should not pry into our coworker’s business,” Sam advised Charlie sharply.
Charlie stumbled a little at his change in demeanor, “Oh… right.”
Maureen smirked at Sam and said, “It’s not quiet business in this bar. Castiel has owned this bar for years… him and Y/N are old news. Them being back together scared a lot of people. It was a nightmare half the time to be honest. But… they seem to have grown up. Sigh of relief there.”
Sam straightened up at this comment. “How do you mean?”
“Just drunken fights, a couple cop calls. Break up, break off. They were young and stupid. Can’t say I wasn’t the same myself.”
Charlie was the one now becoming uncomfortable for her friend. “Oh, well… I mean, the past is the past.”
“The past does inform the future,” Sam quipped, and Dean nodded in agreement.
<> <> <>
You snapped, “I told you what happened between us and where he stands in my company. He’s not just some… schmuck! He’s a junior partner!”
Shaking his head, Castiel said, “Junior partner or not…” He trailed off, beginning to walk forward, forcing you to go backwards. “He needs to know where you stand with me! You apparently need to be reminded too.”
Castiel turned you around in a swift movement and pushed you chest first into the wall, pinning an arm behind your back. You gasped his name, trying to look back at him but he kept you firmly in place.
“I am just reminding you who you belong to,” he growled into your ear.
Your breath shuddered, feeling his hands grasp the hem of your dress, yanking it up to your hips. Slipping his fingers into your underwear, he stroked your lips.
“I pay attention to you, Y/N. I treat you right,” Castiel breathed as he played with your sex. “I dote on you, angel. Don’t I?”
“Yes, sir,” you answered.
You keened as he worked you up, fingers slipping inside to caress you. You pressed back against him, begging for more. His grip tightened on your wrist, holding you more firmly in place and you stilled your movement, following his direction. You stood there, letting him rile you up, biting your lip.
“Look at you… so needy,” he said breathlessly. You could hear the want in his voice, feel his fingers move more freely, coated in your arousal. He leaned forward to be closer to your face. “Are you needy, angel?”
“Yes, sir. Only for you,” you told him obediently, giving him pleading eyes.
Castiel kissed your temple and praised, “I know, baby.”
Pulling away, his fingers left you to pull your underwear down and you kicked them off in tandem. His cock slid in easily in your wet folds. He sighed in content, his hands gripping your waist as he fully seated inside you.
“That’s my girl,” he purred.
His fingers dug in as he drove into you, taking you against the wall. You stayed sturdy, holding on. He drove up sharply into you again and you bit down on your cheeks.
Kissing up your neck, Castiel demanded, “You gonna do better for me? Let them know who you belong to?”
“Yes,” you said.
“Angel, don’t make me have to work harder for this,” he warned, his breath hot on your neck.
“Yes, sir.”
“Mhm, you’re not saying that with too much conviction. You’re too quiet,” He squeezed your nipple hard, causing you to keen loudly before burying your face into the wall, fingers digging in beside you. “We can do better than that, can’t we?”
His fingers closed in around your jawline, pulling your head to the side, you following his movement obediently. He wanted your mouth exposed, your noises to be heard.
You nodded quickly, saying louder, “Yes, sir!”
Castiel drove deep and quick, bouncing you against the wall. “I know you can do better. You’re so beautiful. I love hearing you scream for me.”
“I belong to you!” you declared, knowing damn well anyone walking outside the room could hear the two of you. He was jeopardizing his place of work for this. What rumors would fly of people being railed in rooms in the bar. “Fuck me, please! Let me cum!”
Castiel laughed, nipping at your ear. “Angel, you can’t help yourself, can you?”
His speed increased, his hand falling from your face to come to your nub, circling fervently. He praised you, laying sloppy kisses along the side of your head. You whimpered as you came undone beneath his hand, your legs shaking with your orgasm. Castiel held you upright, allowing him access to finish himself.
Panting, you settled against the wall, basking in the coolness of it against your hot skin. Castiel pulled away eventually, leaving you exposed behind. The cool air was welcome, and you continued resting to regain your grounding.
When you had the strength, you reached for a roll of paper towels to clean yourself up. And then pulled your underwear back up, straightening out your clothes.
Turning to face him, you found him looking well put together again, beside his hair. He was trying to tame it, running his hands through it.
He eyed you and informed you, “I’m not losing my temper with him because I know how much you love your job and how important it is to you.”
You took this in, nodding. He was telling you this for a reason. In the past, he would not have hesitated to make a scene without care for consequence.
Coming closer, he cupped your face, pulling you in for a long, deep kiss. “Now that we’ve got that out of our system… we ready to go back out there?”

CHAPTER TWO.
June 7th, 2019
There was always something about Florida that Adaline hated. It reminded her of her days stuck down in developmental, rotting away in that ugly FCW warehouse with a princess gimmick that got her nowhere. Realizing that this was her new home, as one of the currently most decorated talent in WWE's women's division, was like a punch to the gut. It wasn't supposed to be a downgrade, considering the heights that NXT had reached in recent times, but it sure as hell felt like that. Passing by new, unknown faces in the Performance Centre, who gawked at her veteran presence, made it feel like that. Young female talent coming up to her and telling her how much of an inspiration she was to them starting their careers felt like that.
"Yeah, it hurts a bit, but you have to look at the bigger picture." Mattias was the first one to welcome Adaline to NXT with open arms. "It's a fresh start and in all honesty, I trust the suits down here more than the suits up on top." Earlier in the day, he decided to play tour guide and show her around the main backstage area of the Full Sail taping location.
Adaline rolled her eyes. "They all suck." She tried her best to hide her disdain from day one, but being around Matt allowed her to let her guard down. He, of course, went through the same thing when Tyler Breeze was sent packing back to Winter Park after years on the main roster. However, she didn't expect such a twinkling look in his eyes, a hint of happiness in them, considering he was fresh off Takeover XXV on a title match.
Every NXT alumni spoke so fondly of their time down in the black and gold brand. Maybe a part of her always wondered what it would have been like to stay in Florida a little longer in 2012, instead of taking a cannonball into the formation of The Shield. It seemed like Adaline no longer had to wonder on what could've been.
Nothing felt right. She was wearing a stuffy formal outfit, or as close to formal as Adaline Marin could get. Wide legged dress pants and a strappy crop top, if Adaline wasn't going to pay her respects to Vincent Kennedy McMahon himself, there was no way she was going to force herself into anything "professional." In a way, it was almost her method of showing Hunter just how pissed off she was.
She was three months removed from main eventing Wrestlemania and out of nowhere, she's down at the PC with kids who don't know how to perform a suplex.
"Listen, you may be a little pissed off—" was the first thing that left his mouth and Adaline couldn't help but snort.
The last stop on Matt's tour was Hunter's office, where Adaline was schedule for an early morning meeting with him. It was about nine o'clock and she had barely escaped running into any of the other talent. Her debut was supposed to be kept under wraps and while it didn't hurt for a few people on the roster to learn about it, Adaline herself didn't want it to be spread around so soon.
Hunter gave her a pointed look. "We have big plans for you here."
"I sure hope so, because so did a certain other company." The shit eating grin on Adaline's face was more than a little disrespectful, but he wasn't even fazed. Her statement was nothing less than the truth. It was inevitable that other promotions came knocking on her door and had been planning to do so, as the expiry date of her time with WWE had been on the mind of many for months leading up to it.
"You won't regret re-signing, Adaline," he said, choosing to ignore her statement.
Adaline wanted to believe that she wasn't making a mistake, but after months off television and headaches surrounding her contract negotiations, a part of her thinks that she simply re-signed out of annoyance. They saw how well she did when she left for two years and they were afraid that Adaline was going to go and do the same with the three letter A named company looming over their nightmares. WWE was persistent and they promised her everything she wanted and more—only, she wasn't told that it was going to be at Full Sail University.
She forced herself to smile a bit. "Why so?" Adaline was hoping that she would find out what the meeting was for, sooner rather than later. After all, she'd yet to receive word of anything from the creative team and it felt like she was completely in the dark.
A soft whine indicated that Hunter's door was being creaked open. His eyes brightened at the new presence and the corner of his lips twitched upwards. Hunter then turned back to Adaline.
"This is why."
Slowly rotating her body, she raised an eyebrow at the sight. The four members of The Undisputed Era. Austin, Kyle, Bobby, and Christopher. None of them seemed to expect her either, as they stared back in confusion. It took Adaline a moment to put two and two together and when she did, the wind was knocked right out of her.
Nobody could argue with the facts: The Undisputed Era was one of the best things to come out of NXT in recent times. That was definitely saying something, considering the immense talent rumbling at the core of the brand and the stars that have shone after walking away from the shadows of Full Sail. But, that was the thing. Adaline wanted nothing to do with it or NXT. Her own words echoed in her head, what she had relayed to Trinity following her contract negotiations and hearing of the plans they had for her.
"I'm not some young upstart. My career isn't hanging on by a thread, scraping by for a second chance. I didn't just claw out of the indies, looking to prove myself under the bright lights. I've been here, Trin, and I don't need NXT. They surely don't need me."
This was also what she had sent Hunter over email, which he promptly ignored and instead sent her schedule for the week. He intentionally left out anything from the creative team and the upcoming plans for the taping. Looking at the mischievous glint in the King of King's eyes, Adaline realized why.
The first person to greet her was Kyle, whose lips immediately stretched out into a wide grin. "Addie!" He stepped forward and scooped her up from her seat into a bear hug.
For a moment, all of the irritation in Adaline's body washed away and she even let the giggle bubbling at the base of her throat escape. It'd been so long since she'd seen Kyle's goofy smile and his ginger hair. An old friend that she hadn't seen in a long time, even if they both technically worked under the same company. He was like unexpected sunshine after a week of clouds and her heart was wide open for it.
A second body joined Kyle's embrace and she didn't have to look up to know that it was Christopher.
Christopher had been in Adaline's life from very beginning. He was the one that yelled at her the loudest when she was a rookie at the ROH Dojo. When Colby couldn't join her on the west coast, Chris was her road buddy to every PWG show. He hosted her goodbye party when she signed with FCW in 2011 and kept in touch with her up until he finally joined WWE years later.
"No. Way." Christopher started, eyes wide.
She pulled away from the hug and proceeded to walk over to the other two members of Undisputed. Adaline politely greeted Bobby, pulling him into a quick hug. The two weren't as well acquainted, as their paths only briefly crossed in between Adaline leaving WWE and Bobby entering it. He was always nice to her, though, and she only ever heard good things about him through their many mutual friends. The world of wrestling was small and the same social circle ran throughout, no matter the promotion or country.
Then, there was Austin.
She always thought that his smile lit up an entire room, the way his eyes turned up to project nothing but pure angelic energy. He was dressed casually, in basketball shorts and a zip up—as the rest of the group was, it seemed like they had just arrived to the Full Sail arena—but, he made it look too good. Long hair pulled into a bun, so that his clear blue eyes were on full display. Austin was another man that Adaline shared many mutual friends with and their careers had surely intertwined countless of times on different wrestling promotion cards.
That was all Austin was supposed to be, until Japan happened. Very few words were exchanged between the two ever since, even after Austin's explosive Brooklyn debut in 2017 and Adaline's return six months later at the Rumble. They didn't talk unless they needed to, like when they awkwardly exchanged pleasantries at the last company Christmas party.
She nearly forgot about Hunter, who was pleased with what he was seeing. He leaned back into his leather chair, hands clasped together.
He said, "I'm guessing that we're all acquainted with Adaline?"
"Who isn't?" Kyle answered, with a small smirk playing on his face and a side eye towards Austin. The statement held more weight than what was at the surface and Adaline caught on to it, sending him a glare. Someone knew about their history.
Austin cleared his throat. "Hey," he finally greeted her, though his eyes shifted elsewhere, as if he wanted to be anywhere in the world except for that office.
She felt the exact same, but she managed to force a soft small. Keep it professional, realize where they were and why they were there. Her focus shifted to that and her anger towards NXT settled, even just for the slightest amount.
Interrupting them, Hunter grinned. "Good. Because she will be your fifth member of the Undisputed Era."
Adaline had obviously seen that one coming, but hearing it out loud, letting the actual words hit her, felt like she was being drowned. The boys, however, didn't seem to have a clue as to why they were being called in to the big boss man's office. Excitement flashed upon their faces, with the exception of Austin's shocked expression. Eyebrows raised, he contrasted greatly with Kyle's whooping and fist pumping in the air.
"No way," Bobby said, laughing in disbelief.
"Starting this week, Aspen Glory is a member of the NXT roster," Hunter began to explain. "We have very big plans for you five, a definite future in the title picture. We want the WWE Universe to take UE seriously and that starts with gold hanging off of all of your shoulders. What's a bigger statement than all of you dominating each of the title scenes?"
For the first time since the ink dried on her brand new contract, Adaline wanted to feel excited. However, she could feel Austin's looming presence behind her and it equipped her with an uneasy anchor in her stomach, along with the restlessness already settled down there. "You're putting titles on all of us?" Adaline managed to distract herself, sputtering out what she thought she had heard from Hunter.
"That's the plan—" The way all of the four men before Adaline crumbled into complete happiness made her heart wrench. "—for now. Nothing is certain here, but everyone has high hopes."
"Nothing is certain, huh?" Adaline mumbled under her breath, but no one heard her.
Hunter looked at her. "Hey, Marin?" he said. "We didn't fight for you for no reason. You weren't on the main event at Mania for no reason. That also means that you're not here for no reason."
Eventually, the five were excused from Hunter's office, leaving them to face each other outside in the hallway. Kyle was basically bouncing off the walls, Chris grinning from ear to ear, a fired up energy radiating off of Bobby, and Austin. . .well, he didn't look as upset as Adaline would have expected from him. She on the other hand, didn't know how to feel. She was with some of her closest friends in the world and she was just essentially promised a title run. But, being apart of a stable again? Being with Austin?
"Lunch on me, tomorrow. There's no other way to welcome Addie to Undisputed," Christopher announced.
Austin cleared his throat. "Uh, yeah, we have to go film some stuff for the Network now." He checked the time on his phone.
If this was how the next months, year, whatever it was going to be, were going to go with Austin, Adaline was sure she was going to end up smashing a steel chair against her head.
"Right. I have another meeting to get to, so. . ." she bit her lip, looking at her shoes.
Bobby grinned. "You're getting added to the official Undisputed group chat."
"She's gonna get sick of your dad memes, man," Kyle remarked, causing the entire group to chuckle.
They began walking together, out into another corridor. The atmosphere wasn't awkward and the tension was slightly alleviated.
"You settled down in the city, yet? I can't believe you didn't say anything," Christopher said, arms crossed.
"Not really, I was planning to do the rest of my packing today," she replied. "I was told to stay quiet about it. And, honestly, it hasn't really sunk in yet." This was said, as she passed by an enormous NXT banner hanging from the top of a doorframe and her eyes remained fixated on it.
Bobby said, "Then, tomorrow's a good day to catch up, since today's so busy. We'll probably get the scripts for the taping by then, too, so we can work stuff out and bounce around some ideas."
They all stopped at the end of the hallway, with Adaline and the men about to go their separate ways.
Adaline opened her mouth, unsure of what to say for a moment, before she pressed her lips together in a smile. "I know a lot of stuff has been going around about me and what I want." There was no way she was going to let the boys think that she didn't want to be with them, but it was inevitable with how high-profiled her negotiations had been and the heat she'd gotten backstage for complaining about being taken off TV. "But, in all honesty, I'm excited for this. I didn't expect it, but I know that it's only going to go uphill from here." She let it slowly spill out, unsure of how to word her thoughts. Her qualms with NXT were still present, but she didn't want it to bring down her new group.
"Hey, I'd be pissed if I were you, too, Ms. Main Event," Austin piped up and she was taken aback by it, not expecting him to talk any more than he had to. "But, you'll like this place. Trust me."
"We'll make sure of it," Christopher nudged her.
The five exchanged their goodbyes for the day, promising to stay in contact and that lunch details would be forwarded to Adaline. She felt a little bad, wondering if her addition to the group threw off any creative plans they had in mind, but they seemed open enough to having her join. She watched them begin to walk away and she, too, turned around.
The day had only begun and it already felt like a whirlwind. There were still dozens of boxes waiting for her to be unpacked in her new Orlando home and she groaned at the thought. Adaline just had to get through one more meeting and she could escape Full Sail, where there were already roster members beginning to arrive to film content for tomorrow's tapings. She wanted to flop onto her bed, the only thing she had set up, because tomorrow was a full day with a trip to the back to the PC and getting settled with the guys. She wished she had someone to help her, but even Trinity in Pensacola was hours away.
That's when it begun to sink in. Adaline was completely alone. Sure, she had friends living in the area, but they were constantly scattered all over the country for RAW and Smackdown loops. The only familiar faces were Matt and Curtis, along with some other friends that she had yet to see, but they weren't family in the sense that some of her other friends were. That's who they became when Adaline exhausted herself, immersed in road life for the past decade.
"Uh, Adaline?"
She spun around, surprised once again by Austin, as he jogged towards her. The rest of the group was gone and he returned on his own. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Listen, I know we didn't really leave on the best foot in Japan and it's messed things up ever since I got here." Austin scratched the back of his neck. "But, since you're kind of stuck with me for who knows how long, it's probably best that we bury everything. For everything that happened, I'm sorry. Are we good?"
Adaline's eyes were wide. "Really?" She couldn't believe that stubborn Austin, the guy who never really was mature enough to own his mistakes out loud, went out of his way to clear the air. He would be the type of guy to beat around the bush or make up for things through his actions, but to apologize out loud?
"Really." He smiled, eyes turning up in the way that Adaline once fell for. That thought got stuck in her throat and she almost wanted to cry, but she blinked the emotions away hard enough. "You got us, Marin. It's been tough for you the past while, but the boys and I got your back."
Then, she began to realize that, maybe, she wasn't all alone. She didn't have to be unless she let herself. Adaline froze for a moment, before sticking out her hand. Austin, with a pleased expression on his face, took it and shook it gently, warmth radiating off of him.
"We're good."
