Looking at a the asks you answered about indigenous people in fantasy and about indigenous rep by non-indigenous writers, I have a follow up question, if you don't mind- Seeing how common it is for fantasy works to use cultural mish-mashes, especially like medieval Europe-ish or Warring States fantasy Japan, is there a way to respectfully incorporate indigenous cultures into that sort of world (particularly ones near to each other), or should it be avoided entirely, in your opinion?

Surprisingly Peter Pan 2023 did a great job, still it’s weird that native people are just chilling in neverland but I appreciate that they faced their past and hired native people. I think about harry potter’s little grubby hands trying to world build magic lore for the United States AND IM HORRIFIED. Already the four houses and eventual "monsters" in that setting is making my stomach hurt, honestly that is cultural appropriation and commodification at its finest, the worst example. Then I think about ATLAB and the mixing of cultures is kinda crazy like I love the show so much! But at the same time this is kinda crazy! I’m not sure if I’m comfortable with the level of commodification and the melting pot of cultures. If I saw someone cosplaying the "sun warriors" like🧍‍♀️it scares me. We know that culture isn’t a custom 😣🙏 right? Right? At what point do they say "put a headdress in the show" and everyone starts cosplaying, like a Disney Pocahontas/mulan/moana custom situation, ITS CRAZY. I’m saying this because you don’t want to go the avatar or the Harry Potter direction there is some crazy nuances that can only be created and managed by indigenous people.

I can’t recommend their videos enough because they really do get into cultural sensitivity and misappropriation of them.

since i restarted here lets do a new about me or whatever. my og blog was deanhasthetardis when i was like 20 and well known or whatever. If you ever saw that stupid ass heat of the moment audio that had 1mil notes on it, that was me.

things i’m probably gonna talk about: stray kids (3racha heavy), bigbang (t.o.p / gd heavy), rings of power/lord of the rings/middle earth tings, star trek (all gens). shinee, and random boygroups. things you might see but probably not often: fic, anime, ship tings, ateez, monsta x7, twice, itzy fandoms i’ve been in that i enjoy still but like on the dl: the beatles (og), one direction, supernatural, doctor who, sherlock, merlin, battlestar, star trek. the cosplay community for all of that too. (i recently started rewatching supernatural and its funny cause its still really good and its nice to be detached from cosplay and ship drama and just enjoy the ridiculousness of the show.) for personal shit, my names jess. she/they, no preference towards either. I’m 31, bisexual/pan, married to a bisexual/pan guy. i work as a network engineer for some finance adjacent company and i work really fucking stupid hours sometimes. my best friends are all bts stans. I have a dog named wesley crusher, a cat named starbuck (battlestar) and another cat named kitty. I collect old star trek things, some anime figurines (mainly jojo), all stray kids and bigbang things, and tabletop games. my favorite tv shows of all time are lost, deep space nine, the expanse, misfits, and battlestar galactica. my favorite animes are ghost in the shell, jojo, parasyte, naruto(og/shippuden), and ATLAB. And i’m picking cosplaying back up as a hobby.

Writer Nonnie abd I like the implication that Ryou just doesn't know or probably care if he has eyebrows at any given moment. They probably grow out just fine but since he's always working and 70% of the time it includes explosions it's probably patchy like that mechanic guy from ATLA.
