I did it! This Halloween I’m going to be Katara and my toddler is Aang (because well isn’t that fitting) we been to a few Halloween events in my town. People thought we were so cute it was a great idea. 10/10

💧Did you know that Katara’s name wasn’t originally going to be Katara? 💧

In the initial stages of development, the creators of Avatar were originally going to name our main waterbender Kya. That came to a halt when Nickelodeon’s legal team came to them and said that a popular game that was coming out had a girl named Kya, so they were encouraged to change it.

The creators then toyed with naming her Kanna, but eventually went with Katara. But as you know, those other names did get used as Kya and Kanna are Katara’s mother and grandmother. I guess the name wasn’t a problem if it wasn’t the main character. It’s a little weird to think of Katara with any other name than her own, though. It just suits her so well.

Here is our Avatar The Last Airbender set and me as Prince Zuko. All of this was also on a stage perfomance first and I with my office-worker-shrimp-like back had to do a lot of stretching so that my moves would at least remotly resemble those of Zuko XD

Finished the hat but still trying to figure out how I want to attach the veil. If you wanna know how I finished the edge of the hat I did a quick write up below ^^

Hat write up:

Supplies:

- white double fold bias tape (1/2" wide)

- paint

- embroidery needle and hemp thread

- hot glue

- heatproof gloves

- modge podge

1. Glue the middle fold of bias tape to the exposed foam edge of the hat.

2. Fold over the top and bottom of the bias tape and glue it down.

3. Paint the bias tape and wait to dry

4. Take thick thread and whip stitch around the bias tape and hat.

5. Paint 2 coats of modge podge over the holes made by the sewing needle. Dried bamboo leaves are quite brittle so this is an attempt to keep the leaves from ripping or breaking off.

Overall I only spent about $7.00 (for thr bag of bamboo leaves) to make this project since I tried to use as much as I can from my own supplies and surplus items from previous projects.

i don't expect adaptations to be carbon copies of the original, because then what would be the point of the adaptation when we already have the original. i don't expect adaptations to be better than the original, sure, there are a few cases of that happening, but it's rare.

what i do expect adaptations is to be faithful to the source material, keeping to the same themes that were integral to the original, and i do expect adaptations to maintain the integrity of the characters, especially in a show like avatar the last airbender, where much of its appeal and depth come from the growth, development and the relationships of the characters and that's where natla fails.

#changes to characters can be good sometimes. but the changes the creators of natla made are not good. #if you believe that the changes they have made are for the better? im not listening to you. argue with the wall. #i dont really care if you like it. if you like it. good for you! #i didnt. it sucks ass. its... so flat and completely assassinated so many characters. katara. bumi. iroh. hakoda. #there are few positives. it isnt all bad. most of it is though. #its not worse than the movie. ill give them that. some of the scenes were great. but... ugh. #side note - i see a lot of people complimenting the outfits and... sure. they look pretty. but the thing is they shouldn't look pretty. #aang is 12 years old. he's reckless and messy and loves to goof off. his clothes are not going to look pristine and brand new. #sokka teaches children to be warriors. you cannot tell me his clothes wouldn't be dirty and torn. #same with katara. but she's an amateur waterbender who messes up. a lot. #ZUKO HAS BEEN ON A RUN DOWN SHIP FOR THREE YEARS. his armour would be OLD. AND SCRATCHED UP. #especially with how careless zuko is. he is a person who will strive to achieve his goal even at his own expense. #his armour and clothes would be beat up and worn. #its got a cosplay feel to me. like these are just people cosplay characters that they only have a shallow knowledge of. #its. just. ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. i hate it #natla #netflix avatar the last airbender #atla #avatar the last airbender #strawberry speaks
