Sam?? swayed into torturing dream using his emotions? split between his wants and his duties?#warden who can’t risk dream escaping vs sam who’s been trying to help tommy heal #sam who killed Ranboo because he follows through with his threats and couldn’t let dream escape any means necessary #who didn’t even particularly care that much because he found out how Ranboo caused the explosions on top of the prison #who kidnapped Michael not to hurt him but to ensure he had power of the right people so he could ensure the greater good #see when dream was trapped in the prison he commissioned that was poetic justice. when Sam was trapped it was complicated #he’s so ‘I’m tortured by my actions but I have to do what’s hard for the greater good’ and then it doesn’t matter #Sam? he’s done some fucked shit. but god if he’s not a sympathetic character #or at the very least understandable in how he sees what he’s doing is good or for others #Dream is constantly ‘what can I do to make me look good’ ‘what can I do to get what I want’ and grabs for power and abuses tommy #dream smp #dsmp #awesamdude #dream #c!dream #c!awesamdude #mcyt #z speaks

Anyways my 1 opinion is that I feel like comprehensive analyses come from people who actually like the character they're analysing. Or well. Not necessarily like but it's about being willing to give them a fair shake

I can’t emphasize enough that you’re not the weird one in this situation anon, that Would be a totally reasonable assumption to make and in fact those terms Have Been used interchangeably before.

however in the past couple years or so “character apologia” has developed a highly specific connotations around it, particularly in the dream smp fandom where a lot of people will go into this space as fans of the streamers First and fans of the story Second.

dream apologists are characterized by their belief that c!dream is in the moral right to make every decision he does to fault. this is the group of people who had to argue that the logsted chase sequence was c!tommy hallucinating just so it wouldn’t upset their mental image of their blorbo who argue that dream serial killing the fortniters either shouldn’t be taken as canon at all or shouldn’t be taken Seriously, who argue that dream murdering tommy was justified because dream shouldn’t be expected to control himself, who argue that dream was in the moral right to kill four people because he owned the dream smp land (through calling dibs), who tried to harass cc!awesamdude (the actual real world guy) for comparing c!dream to a different fictional stalker and serial killer in a one-off sentence on a random stream.

they don’t like that c!dream is a villain, they emphatically believe he isn’t and they’ll get to that conclusion by victim blaming, vilifying other characters, bending and erasing canon at will, and harassing other fans or even content creators if they recognize dream As a villain. again, often times to really weird extremes.

they’re also well known for woobifying dream to the point of infantilization and dehumanization (the philza spoonfeeding post comes to mind [Link], but it’s Far from the only one)

I love angst and I love villains and I love the way that tommy and dream’s storyline was handled (when it was still being written), but that’s exactly why I’m Not a c!dream apologist.

BadBoyHalo: I have watched my friend get turned into an emotionless vessel for the crimson egg and failed to save him, and I didn't have enough time to make a decision and I let the crimson control me also. I mourn after my best friend and I still miss him, but I can't go out of the crimson's orders and danger his or my life. it has clouded my thoughts and wants to use me as an advantage to gain power over the smp and there is nothing I can do to stop it.

i'm going more in depth about my thoughts about the prison plan, because there's so many divided opinions and it's making my head hurt, so.

nobody is free from blame. (except for ranboo and tubbo since they literally didn't do anything but shush /lh)

everybody's like "it's completely tommy's fault!" or "it's completely sam's fault!" and it's like. they both screwed up. tommy screwed up by going into the prison in the first place—sneaking into the prison, but he has an alibi for that as well, which is; he wanted to kill his tormenter, his abuser, and he thought it would be the best for the server if he did. tommy acts on emotion, and he doesn't entirely think his actions through, and he messes up, and gets himself in shit, but he'd thought that killing dream would not only be the best for him, but for the entire server. and yes, he shouldn't have broken into the prison, he shouldn't have come up with the plan in the first place but he isn't in the right state of mind—he hasn't been, for a long time, if i'm honest—and the only thing he thinks is right is killing dream, that's the only thing that will bring him clarity, and he ended up failing because he acted impulsively and he ended up losing ghostbur, and it's sad to see because he wanted to rid himself of the man who had tormented him since day one and he ended up fucking that up and losing ghostbur. sam is allowed to feel frustrated with tommy, because tommy broke into the prison, however, the way he reacted wasn't necessary. he's allowed to be angry, but accusing tommy of trying to free dream when tommy was trying to tell him that he just wanted to kill him and didn't want him dead? saying he should've stayed dead, essentially, and all the problems involving the server has been his fault? saying he should've killed him multiple times? sam has every right to be angry with tommy, but he should've at least tried to listen to tommy's reasoning instead of jumping out of the gate with "you tried to free him". sam's been going down a dark path ever since tommy's death, and it's understandable that he'd react that way but that doesn't mean he's entirely in the right either. the person who's entirely at fault, however, is dream; because he's the one who revived ghostbur. these characters are all morally gray; they do things that they think is right from their pov, and those things end up hurting others. none of them are entirely in the right, but none of them are entirely in the wrong either, so it's fucking weird how y'all are placing the entire blame on either sam or tommy's shoulders when they aren't entirely at fault, because from their pov's their reasoning is completely understandable. believe what you want to believe, side with what you want to side, but this is literally an smp full of a group of morally gray motherfuckers

tldr: tommy made a mistake by even making the plan, but he's not in a good headspace, and sam made a mistake by reacting the way he did, but he's not in a good headspace either. they both have reasons they're right and they both have reasons they're not and they're both not in good headspaces right now so can we Not split them a part between whos completely in the right and who's completely in the wrong

Since slime has been around for forever just watching he probably observed Tommy’s exile and since he doesn’t understand humans he could just casually drop the fact Tommy was physically and psychologically tortured by Dream to Quackity and the rest of the Las Navadas crew. Witch would definitely result in some protective big brother Q moments towards Tommy.

c!dream deserves it

100% he deserves everything that has happened to him, no redemption arc, no getting broken out by a certain anarchist pig, he deserves to rot in that prison with c!quackity and c!sam

and this is because he was planning to do exactly the same thing to c!tommy, in fact, I would even say he was planning to do worse

I admit though, noone in that situation is correct between c!dream, c!quackity and c!Sam, they're all fucking up so much, but I have absolutely no desire to see that bastard c!dream escape from the prison
