The intensity of a brief experience, the feeling of being utterly suspended in time, beyond past and future—this belongs to many, perhaps even to all sensations of beauty. Something that has the radiation of beauty strikes a chord in me, and later, when it is over, I say: I was completely at one with myself and the world, at first holding my breath for a brief moment, then utterly absorbed and immersed, filled with wonder, feeling the vibrations, effortlessly excited and calm as well, enthralled by the magic of the appearance that has struck me. Feelings of joy. Happiness. The countenance of a sleeping child, unaware of being watched. Serene, undisturbed beauty. Nothing is mediated. Everything is itself. The flow of time has been halted, experience crystallized into an image whose beauty seems to indicate depth. While the feeling lasts, I have an inkling of the essence of things, of their most universal properties. I now suspect that these lie beyond any categories of thought.

"Like The New York Times, CNN and network news programs, it [PowerPoint] appears to be neutral, unbiased and free of any leanings one way or another. Just as a hammer does not tell you what kind of house to build, Microsoft would like us to think...that their product is merely a neutral tool. It is faceless, and it is what you put into it that counts.
However, every piece of software comes with its own set of biases and tendencies. The most obvious bias and the easiest to see in PowerPoint, is the Auto Content Wizard, a feature that makes outlines of presentations with bullet points for those who feel they don't know how to make a presentation themselves...
However, there are more subtle sets of biases at work. The way the PowerPoint is structured and the various options provided have not only been limited...but they have been designed assuming, a priori, a specific world view. The software, by making certain directions and actions easier and more convenient than others, tells you how to think as it helps you accomplish your task. Not in an obvious way or in an obnoxious way or even in a scheming way. The biases are almost unintentional, they are so natural and well-integrated. It is possible that the engineers and designers have no intention of guiding and straightening out your thinking; they simply feel that the assumptions upon which they base their design decisions are the most natural and practical. You are thus subtly indoctrinated into a manner of being and behaving, assuming and acting, that grows on you as you use the program."

Tomorrow (1/16/24), @ba-chan (and possibly @madi-konrad) will be using our architecture and psychology brains to design the ultimate restorative bathhouse and spa experience in the Sims 4!
(I took a bath once and it was in the top 10 best things to ever happen to me)
It's gonna be cozy but it's ALSO gonna be a good time to learn real actual principles of architecture, landscape architecture, and environmental psychology!
(and you can help too!)
Posting the link to the stream tomorrow so watch out for that

The heisters occasionally hold ‘Slides Parties’.
The premise is very simple - any heister who wants to participate as a presenter can do so. They must prepare and present a short PowerPoint presentation on the topic of their choosing - and it can, indeed, be on absolutely ANYTHING - under 10 minutes in length, and then their captive audience are free to ask a few questions before the next presentation.
Of course, sometimes the presentations descend into chaos, because the presenter is a chaotic entity - nobody expected Duke’s presentation to be of this sort.
“Well,” Duke began, smiling broadly at his audience, “it’s so wonderful to have the opportunity to talk to you all about my passion - art!
“But I am no fool. I know not everyone shares my appreciation for paintings and sculptures.” He sighed, as if disappointed in his coworkers.
“So that’s why I thought I’d share with you my favourite - and I’m trying to use language all of you will understand - horniest art.”
He clicks the mouse, and this image appears on-screen:

“First, we have Perseus with the head of Medusa by Cellini. Lovely work, truly - but perhaps we ought to rename it Perseus with a bubble butt. I believe it was Sydney who taught me that, ah, delightful phrase.”
Sydney nodded, grinning and cackling to herself in the corner, a can of beer clasped loosely in her fingers.
“Now-” Another click -
Tumblr media
“Does anyone know who this is?”
Immediately the heisters began shouting out various theories.
“Jesus!”
“The angel Gabriel!”
“BAIN!”
Raucous laughter, followed by a hollow beep, and: “I wish.”
The suggestions continue, until finally someone gets it.
“My next Grindr hook-up!”
“Satan-”
“Yes! This is Lucifer, the fallen angel, the devil Himself.”
“Damn,” Sokol whistled, leaning forward on his knees with his elbows, “really do wish he was next Grindr hookup. He’s a... handsome devil.”
Duke managed to only show one more picture before his time was up.
“This has all been rather... male centric so far. So, how about the Ecstasy of St Teresa? Uh, literally.”

“What,” Hoxton asked, once the uproar had somewhat died down, “err. What’s got her so...”
“She’s having a religious experience, of course,” Duke answered, barely able to contain his own laughter. “She’s having a most holy, spiritual moment, Hoxton.”

Kaveh reads people so well that within minutes of meeting their other selves he can accurately tell which ones are his trio and which ones are the other trio
tighnari: wait, which one of them is our cyno?

kaveh: *points at c!cyno* that's the cyno from your world, *points at cyno* that's the one from this world.
