We all know how fantis can be hypocrites when they ship police and the differences of how they treat m/m, f/f, and m/f ships. This one I'm going to point out is really fucking wild. In 2022, there are three noticeable anime with the theme of adult/minor, they are Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Call of the Night, and Vermeil in Gold - I watched all three as they aired. We all know this type of relationship in fiction is a huge ass no-no to fantis. So then, where the fuck were fantis when these anime were airing?!?! Especially with Cyberpunk Edgerunners and Call of the Night cus they got popular

Cyberpunk Edgerunners: David 17 and Lucy 20, it doesn't matter if he aged as 18 as the show went on, Lucy met him as a minor and groped him. Call of the Night: Kou 14 and Nazuna 40+ vampire, the whole plot is Kou have to develop romantic feelings for Nazuna in order to be turn into a vampire. Vermeil in Gold: Alto 16 and Vermeil 550+ demon, a demon Alto summoned that Vermeil sexual throw herself onto Alto that he always freaks out when it happen - both of them develop romantic feelings towards each other

You should see and expect a shit ton of posts from fantis screaming their hearts out pedophilia this and that, but from my knowledge I haven't seen a SINGLE post from them about it with these anime - or the least there wasn't some popular hot take™ "xyz anime is pedophilia!!!" when the shows were airing

i was basically anti when i got into fandom cuz i was way young and stupid,it wasnt until 2020 that i realized i was BEING stupid abt restricting myself 💀 i found out abt profic bc a tweet from a profic gimmick account was recommended to me, SO GLAD IT WAS i shudder to think that id basically be guilt tripping myself for forever hadnt that tweet showed up when it did 😭

i was an anti, got dragged into a group of super toxic antis amd lost really close and dear friends, it opened my eyes to see that my behavior was unacceptable and i regret it to this day, i've learned not to judge people so easily and to control my anger issues

Unfortunately mine was when the leopards started eating my face with the jjba ship giomis, then I kinda realized that I was miserable in anti spaces. I’m much happier now :)

I was dogpilled on my diff acc and called "pedo" for saying there should be no big censhorship (as long we are talking about fiction) on AO3 and for shipping otayuri five years prior to the incident. @otayuriweek22 - more ramblings about this au under the cut :)

ok, this AU was the hardest to develop since the ideas are half formed and it raises a lot of questions for the verse that the answers are too complicated for me to answer. but i can escape that by NOT writing a fic (which i tried to do and failed horribly).

in my heart of hearts this verse is very hilarious and sexy. so have some ramblings about it instead:

angels and demons have 4 letter names: vita, beka, yura, yuri, mila, jaak, chit, etc… akov is god and ilia is the devil (< i guess, idk, whatever, not important). i think yuri (katsuki) is a demon (gluttony, lust), but that is also not entirely important.

yura and beka meet each other on the shoulders of a nervous and spineless human. they have been sent (punished?) (exiled?) to the mortal realm to act as the human's conscience. yura dwells on the right shoulder and beka on the left.

the human's spinelessness drives yura into rage. he screams into the human's ear trying to influence him to just go punching assholes and jerks that the human lets walk all over him. yura is literally the embodiment of the meme "aren't you tired of being nice a loser? don't you just wanna go apeshit?" when the human only cowers in response yura punches and kicks his neck, which only makes the human scratch his neck (a nervous tic), this makes yura all the more enraged.

beka on the other hand shoulder (haha) whispers and murmurs things into the human's ear that make him more spineless like: it's scary out there, we should stay in, oh, this guy is big we should let him cut in line ahead of us, its okay to get interrupted it wasn't important anyway… etc

idk something to that effect.

they are both so useless to the human being that the human lives out a pathetic life. they spend more time having sexy makeouts on the human's back than doing anything of use.

on yura's malevolence; he has a strong sense of justice and what's right but his problem is his means of achieving them, they are unholy and extremely problematic lmao. beka's benevolence is unbecoming of a demon. he still has the values of what make him demonic but his means are calm and without calamity. chaotic good vs lawful evil typa shit idk

vita is yura's overseer and whenever he has a message to send to yura, a golden halo appears in the air and a soft holy choir sings as clouds part to reveal vita who is glowing all dream-like. (this is super hilarious in my head, the choir is like a soundtrack and can abruptly stop (like a record scratch) if some incredulous shit gets to vita or whatever. it's very over the top and obnoxious)

i imagine the choir is like the first and last thing you hear when interacting with vita. like you'd be chilling on a cloud minding your own business and in the distance the dulcet tones of the choir signals the arrival of vita, and then fades away with him when he leaves lmfao. vita is also especially glowy for an angel, he glows more than most, giving him a very ethereal and dreamlike quality (the extra power he allots to that is worth it and second nature to him at this point)

jaak is beka's overseer and he makes it a point to regularly interrupt the sexy makeouts. when jaak calls, a dark red almost black flame flickers to life and forms a ring of smoke, as he appears in it he always has cluster of succubi hanging off of him who all look exactly alike (isabella) who softly moan, murmur and whisper "king jj" at him in the background

(kind of like in horror media when you hear whispers in the background, but it's constant and less scary sounding and more blush inducing. the anti vita choir lmao)

whenever jaak comes around, yura mimes gagging and puking and covers his ears because, funny enough, worse still than the constant moans of "king jj" is jaak's voice itself.

First of all, when i say ‘none of you give a shit about minors’ that was talking about adults in fandom and how they interact with minors such as yourself, and with content about minors. I know full well that minors ship minor/adult ships and its deeply concerning to me, bc it encourages minors to believe these relationships are ok, and also places minors in fandom spaces with adults who shouldnt be interested in ‘shipping’ minors to begin with, let alone with adults. Some of these adults are as old as in their 40s, and many are in their mid 20s-30s, and tbh the problem with people that age shipping these things, and especially creating or interacting with explicit content about them should be obvious. This is especially the case when minors go on to interact with that same content, or the adult creators. Even if the age difference between the characters were not there, the age difference between the characters and the reader would be.

When i was younger in fandom i thought this stuff was all cool, and followed a lot of older adults who created content that was, looking back, clearly pedophilic in nature. Looking at the way otayuri is drawn, it pretty clear to be that yurios youth, and ‘innocence’ is highlighted, and contrasted to depictions of otabek as older, more experienced, and more muscular. The age difference doesnt just exist, its eroticised and emphasised, its part of the appeal for a lot of fans. To me this is pretty clearly part of this pattern that i recognise from art, fanfic, and other fan content about adult/minor ships i saw when i was younger.

A lot of these adults in fandom who ship these things go on to present themselves as friendly or approachable, and encourage minors to interact with them. Given these people firstly create content implying that relationships between adults and minors are fine, and then encourage minors to interact with them and place their trust in them, often in more personal way than most minor would with adults they dont know well (or with adults in general), this at the v least has the potential to be a form of grooming. Thats why i say none of these people give a shit about minors.

To go to your second point about 16/8 relatonships being ‘normal’, 18 year olds are adults and 16 year olds are minors. Thats the truth. An 18 year old may be in university, or have a full time job, while a 16 year old is still in school. 16 year olds are at a v different life stage, and have far less power over their own lives and circumstances than 18 year olds do. In addition, a massive amount of growth and maturation happens during teenage years. While i certainly felt grown up at 16, in retrospect 16 year olds seem far younger, less mature, and more vulnerable to me. This is something i was already deeply aware of by the age of 18, and something i think most 18 year olds know.

Sorry this got so long and i hope this clears up what i was trying to say, and that it helps you realise why adult/minor ships are bad.

Hey is anyone still into Yuri on ice? Cause I just remembered that one of the ships that kickstarted the anti movement was otayuri (otabek and Yuri plisetsky) but the arguments WHY it was so problematic didn’t make sense

First, it was “predatory” because of the age gap (18-19 for otabek and 16-17 for Yuri)

Then it was like “yuri would never date a man who’s 5’8”

Then there’s also “they have no chemistry”

And I’ll remind everyone that this age gap is neither predatory nor unusual, that the height thing is stupid and that they were shown together in the anime AND had yuri dancing on ice to a screamo song where he pulled his “friend’s” glove off his hand with his teeth. It was MEANT to be sexy
