If I had to guess, over half the people who are like "oh we don't want sexual stuff at pride" are people who've been told there is public fucking at pride by people intentionally misleading others. I know when I first heard about the discourse I thought the two sides were "people should be allowed to fuck publicly at pride, there shouldn't be any kids there bc it shouldn't be family friendly" and "pride should be family-friendly bc there will be kids there" and my initial reaction was "wait people fuck at pride? Yeah that's wrong, I think pride should be able to be attended to by queer kids and teens".
I then learned that the people who presented the two sides in that way were being misleading and went "wait wtf??" (I also learned that "family-friendly" was not, in fact, synonymous with "okay for kids to see", but was actually a dogwhistle.)
So, like, there is something to be said for the fact that 'sex in public' is a fact of life for unhoused people and for the history of queer people, and I don't want to be like 'hey any kind of sex in any place that might be vaguely considered public should ruin your life.' That's the kind of thinking that ends up with a woman thinking she's alone on a deserted beach masturbating, not realizing a family is within eyeshot up the beach, getting her arrest video posted by the cops to shame her, and dying by suicide because people harassed her endlessly. (This was recent.)
But that said, no one is whipping out their dick at Pride. The issue is that, to some people, any display of queer sexuality is considered basically the same as two dudes rawdogging on a pile of dicks.
And yeah, sure, Pride should be for a lot of people, but also, Pride started because a bunch of kinky queer adults said 'yeah, we deserve time and space for us,' and making it okay for queer kids and teens should not result in the expulsion of those who created it in the first place.
I fully support the creation of additional and alternate Pride spaces for kids and teens, but under no circumstances should that come at the cost of pushing out the people who got us there in the first place.
But yeah, there are people who are being super fucking disingenuous about this and I'm over it.

This may sound mean, but...
If you send me an ask containing links to Good Omens fan fiction you think I should read, I'll delete it. Do it again and I'll (regretfully) block you. This is a general blanket sort of thing -- I don't want to read it, legally I can't read it, no I won't make it into the next series, and, no matter how pure your motives, it's crossing a line.

I really think everyone needs to truly internalize this:
Fictional characters are objects.
They are not people. You cannot "objectify" them, because they have no personhood to be deprived of. They have no humanity to be erased. You cannot "disrespect" them, because they are not real.

If you’ve ever wondered how reposting hurts artists- yesterday I found a post from 2012ish featuring one of my Sherlock/Doctor Who pieces. That post had 17,604 notes. It wasn’t my post. My post of that art had 0 notes.
Apparently I saw the post once when it was at 6k because an artist I admired reblogged it, but at that stage I was very unwell & not experienced enough with Tumblr to realise what effect it might have.
Looking through the notes now I see that in the six years since then-
Several people got the design as a tattoo.
A number liked it enough to want custom designs but didn’t know how to contact me so that’s approximately £300 I didn’t get a chance to earn.
Someone used that art in the front cover of a comic by accident and while the company fixed it after I contacted them that’s exposure that it’s far too late to capitalise on now.
If you like an artwork that you find off tumblr, please, please I am begging you search for the artist’s name and see if they do actually have a Tumblr you could reblogged from instead. If you’re an artist search your username(s) every so often to see if your work has been taken.
A few hundred quid might not seem like a lot, but that’s a few months of income for me

"School districts that don’t respect transgender and nonbinary students’ pronouns or force them to use restrooms that don’t align with their gender identity could be committing federal civil rights violations beginning this fall.
Today, the U.S. Department of Education announced the issuance of a final rule under Title IX to protect people in public schools from sex-based discrimination and harassment. The announcement marks a significant update in federal efforts to combat sex discrimination in federally funded educational institutions. During a call with reporters, Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona emphasized the administration’s dedication to ensuring that Title IX effectively serves all students by providing safe, welcoming, and rights-respecting educational environments."

such a huge relief that hillary’s so ahead in the polls and trump has such a small chance of winning, right? WRONG. DO NOT GET APATHETIC OR COMFORTABLE. DO NOT DECIDE YOU DON’T NEED TO VOTE BECAUSE YOU’RE SURE HILLARY WILL WIN. the only way trump can win now is if so many people expected to vote for hillary don’t show up to the polls. because you BETTER believe ALL of his supporters will be at the polls.
brexit passed in the UK because young people grew apathetic because they were sure it wasn’t going to pass. and it did, because old racists and xenophobes showed up in DROVES to vote.
tl;dr: VOTE, PEOPLE. VOTE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. IT MIGHT.

I think the funniest thing I learnt today was that antis DID try to make their own ao3, but the restrictions made it impossible to do anything.
Nobody on the site could agree on one solid concept of "moral" and "immoral", so it spawned a plethora of huge arguments and the site had to be shut down.
And the tagline was "good fiction for good people."
Make of all that as you will.

I’m gonna be honest but I think the reason why YOI ice adolescence was cancelled was because of censorship
from past interviews it was already clear that the production committee struggled to even include the kiss in episode 7 (and it was still censored!)
There’s also the fact that the Japanese DVD’s were distributed by Avex Inc, the company has a subsidiary in china where of course lgbtq+ relationships are frowned upon
And also the studio and committee barely received any money from the series despite its success, merchandise deals, and a fandom that is still alive. It looks more to me like MAPPA didn’t want to try risking it and decided to use the money they got to fund other series’ while stringing fans along for 7 years
.

Just saw a post about how someone 'wouldn't hesitate' to join a fictional villain group (whose crimes include child murder, among other things)...and they had a huge flaming 'prosh*tters dni' banner on it 😐

So apparently AO3 has turned off guest comments temporarily due to abusive spam comments.
From their Twitter: Due to an influx of abusive spam comments, we've temporarily turned off the ability to leave comments while logged out. We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope to have guest comments back on soon!
They also had a banner on the website saying so as well. I’m admittedly not surprised they had to do so. Hopefully people will get a hit.
that’s so shitty. and this is why I recommend that people moderate their comments even if they intend on approving all of them bc that way it’s super easy to not let this kind of shit get through

🔹 Saying that it's okay to write or read about dark and taboo topics but only when they're portrayed in a certain way is still censorship.
🔹 Wanting to ban or forbid media that you believe portrays a negative topic in a positive light, by glorifying, romanticizing, or fetishizing it is still censorship.
🔹 There is no objective metric to decide if a story is portraying a negative topic the 'right' way.
🔹 Just because a piece of fiction doesn't explicitly condemn or portray an evil action in a bad light in the text doesn't mean the author thinks its good or is trying to persuade the audience that it is good.
🔹 Survivors of trauma will not always write fiction about their trauma in a way that seems 'right' or 'normal' to you.
🔹 Banning fiction because it portrays dark, taboo topics in a way you consider gross or disgusting is still censorship.

"oh itd be illegal in real life though!!" yeah. a lot of shows have moments like that too. and theyre not always shown to be explicitly negative, are seen as funny, or are even seen as attractive. but people are yknow. expected to know that certain things aren't okay irl. because they expect them to be adults with critical thinking skills.
