Chapter 1 - Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Christine. Her name was Christine.
A rather unusual, French-sounding name for an English lady. Perhaps one of her parents had been a Francophile, before the war with France had broken out and anti-French sentiment had permeated every aspect of life in England. Edward wondered if he could ask Miss Conyngham—Christine—about that, without sounding impertinent.
He had learned her name from Lady Harrington. He'd written to that lady under the guise of thanking her for inviting him to her ball, and, only at the very end, almost as an afterthought, he'd dropped a line about how much he'd enjoyed making Miss Conyngham's acquaintance. Lady Harrington's reply had been full of praises for Christine's beauty and virtues and sweet nature, as well as laments for her lack of fortune. It was from her letter that Edward learned Mrs. Conyngham was the second wife of Colonel Phillip Conyngham, and since the Colonel's estate was entailed to his sons, his death had left Christine with no fortune to speak of.
Nothing he'd learned about Christine made Edward regret his proposal to her, but his fear of her rejection only increased. What did he have to offer her, save for an empty title and an empty, drafty house in the middle of nowhere? She had said it was of no importance to her, but that was then. And even if it was of no importance to her, it may be of great importance to her snob of a mother.
Edward spent the two days waiting for a message from Christine expressing her regret. When it didn't come, he breathed a sigh of relief and steeled himself for an interview with Mrs. Conyngham.
He arrived at the Conyngham's townhouse a little after 12 o'clock—too early for a visit, perhaps but he could not abide the Londoners' habit of making calls so late in the afternoon. He knocked, was met by a maid, and, after presenting his card, inquired after Mrs. and Miss Conyngham. The maid disappeared into the house for a minute, before returning and bidding him inside.
"Miss Conyngham will receive you in the garden, sir," she said hesitantly, making no mention of Mrs. Conyngham.
Edward frowned slightly. He may not be well-versed in the intricate etiquettes and rituals of polite society, but receiving a man alone in the garden sounded quite unusual, even if that man had recently proposed. Did she mean to reject him after all? His frown deepened when he found his way barred by Mrs. Conyngham herself, looking rather vexed.
"Lord Hurstfield," she said, in response to his bow. "To what do we owe the honor?" Her tone implied that this was no honor at all; rather the opposite.
"Mrs. Conyngham." Edward tried to look past her into the parlor, hoping to get a glimpse of Christine and see what this was all about, but she was nowhere in sight. He turned back to her indignant mother. "Ma'am, Miss Conyngham will doubtless explain everything to your satisfaction. But for now, if you'll excuse me, I have important matters to discuss with her. In private, please," he added, when Mrs. Conyngham made to follow him. He nodded to the maid to lead him to the garden, leaving Mrs. Conyngham spluttering in his wake.
In the pocket-sized yard behind the house, he found Christine in a morning dress of blue serge, attacking some pitiful-looking rosebushes with a pair of pruning shears. He bowed to her, but she didn't seem to see him.
"Your mother has no idea why I'm here," he said, as soon as the maid was gone. "I thought you had spoken with her?"
Snip, snip, snip, went the shears, while Christine bent her head over them with rather too much concentration.
"My rosebushes are hopeless," she said. "I prune and water and cover them in the winter, but nothing works. There is no light, no room for them to breathe. It's so frustrating, trying to grow a garden in London, don't you agree?"
She kept glancing at him while she rambled on, looking both afraid and eager. Edward went to her and put a hand on the shears.
"If you keep pruning them like that, there would be nothing left to grow," he said.
Finally, she lifted her eyes to him, and he saw at once the fear and nervousness in them. He could only hope that he was not the cause. "What is it?" he asked, as one might speak to a child.
Again, there was that hint of steel in her eyes, in her posture. "You have asked for my honesty, Lord Hurstfield," she began.
"Please, call me Edward," he said, but she went on as though he hadn't spoken at all.
"I'm going to be honest with you now. And if you want to retract your proposal afterward, I would understand. That's why I haven't spoken to my mother." She was speaking rapidly, apparently afraid that if she paused, she would lose the courage to continue. Edward braced himself for the rejection. "When I said I've... put my trust in the other man, I mean..." A flush was creeping over her forehead and cheeks, extending all the way to her ears and down her neck, and she kept squeezing the shears until her knuckles turned white. "I've trusted him completely. With... with..."
It took him a moment to grasp her meaning. He was struck with a sense of anti-climax and almost blurted out "Is that all?" but checked himself in time, when he realized she must have put a great deal of trust in him to reveal this.
"Miss Conyngham," he said. Then, in a softer voice, "Christine." She turned her beseeching, teary eyes to him. Perhaps he should have asked for permission to address her so familiarly, but this was no time for formality. "I understand. And it is of no importance to me." It was true. Other men may set great store by the virginity of their brides, but not he. Nobody demands that the groom be a virgin, do they? And if he could be a virgin by choice, why should she not be a virgin by choice as well?
Christine visibly sagged with relief. Her lips quivered, and the tears threatened to spill, but she held them off. That show of strength tugged at Edward's heart, making him long to gather her into his arms and tell her that she had nothing to worry about, that she was safe with him, but he didn't want to be presumptuous. Instead, he gave her a smile, a rather inadequate reciprocation of what had just transpired between them. She had not rejected him. She had trusted him with her deepest, most humiliating secret. The least he could do was to reassure her of his intention.
Then he remembered. Reaching into the inner pocket of his waistcoat, he withdrew the one thing that was almost as precious to him as Hurstfield Hall itself—his mother's ring. It was made in the shape and colors of her favorite flower, the humble love-in-a-mist, set with five small diamonds surrounding a sapphire. He had never seen his mother's hand without it. After the funeral, it was Mrs. Wayne who had handed it to him. "Keep it safe, Master Edward," the housekeeper had said, tears streaming down her face. "It won't fetch much, but God forbid, one day His Lordship may be desperate enough to sell it."
From that moment on, Edward had taken the ring with him wherever he went. Still, he'd never dreamed one day he would use it to propose.
"This was my mother's," he said, suddenly feeling shy. "May I?"
Christine gave him her hand, and he slid the ring onto her slim finger. It was a perfect fit. He let out a breath. It would have been quite embarrassing if the ring hadn't fitted, but now, he felt as though their union had received his mother's blessing.
"It's beautiful," Christine said, sounding like she meant it. "When may I meet her, your mother?"
There was a twinge in Edward's heart when he realized Christine didn't know. "She is dead," he said shortly.
"Oh." A moment, then she laid a gentle hand on his sleeve. "I am so sorry."
Her touch brought Edward out of the dark thoughts he was always in danger of sinking into whenever his mother was mentioned. This was no time to dwell in the tragedy of the past. It should be a happy occasion, and he was determined to make it so. He put on a smile and offered Christine his arm.
"Shall we announce the happy news to your mother?"
***
Within a single night, Edward had gotten engaged, and within three weeks, he had become a married man. The news of his wedding had caught everyone by surprise, even his Oxford friends who knew of his plan but didn't expect him to carry it out with such expedition.
Even Edward himself was surprised at how fast things had proceeded. Mrs. Conyngham had been understandably shocked and tried to raise the usual protests, but Christine had managed to calm her somehow. He left most of the planning of the wedding to them, as he was too busy settling his father's debts and putting the accounts in order. He hardly even had time to think about his betrothed, or, rather, his thoughts for her were all practical ones, such as sending instructions for Mrs. Wayne to prepare Hurstfield Hall and Wheeler to hire some horses and bring the carriage to London. For Christine's feelings, he paid no attention.
But now, after the ceremony had been performed and the vows exchanged, after the wedding breakfast had been eaten and all the guests had gone home, after even the packing had been done, ready for their trip back to Yorkshire early the next morning, there was nothing else for him to think about but her and what it meant to be married.
He would have to perform his marital duties, he knew. In her will, Great Aunt Munson had put emphasis on the production of an heir. But how could he manage it, when he felt very little attachment and attraction to his wife? Even those two words, his wife, sounded strange to him. Oh, he didn't deny that there had been something there when they'd first met, and it had played a part in his decision to propose, but that tiny spark was gone now, forgotten in the three weeks of anxious preparations and hectic arrangements. If they had some time together, perhaps he could rediscover some of that warmth...
Well, they were going to have the rest of their lives together, were they not? Would that not be enough time to know someone? And in this, they were not an exceptional case. Many couples hardly knew each other at all before they were married, and it bore no ill effect on their marriage. Intimacy would come in time, and if not that, then at least they would have some form of connection and understanding.
Walton had had the right of it when he said Edward was prone to overthinking. All this pondering got him nowhere. He would simply have to go through with it and take things as they come.
With that thought, Edward left the dressing room where he'd been put up for the wedding, and knocked on Christine's door.
"Come in," came the quiet reply. He opened the door but didn't step inside. Christine was sitting at her dressing table, brushing out her long, blonde hair with short, jerky movements. Edward was reminded of Rapunzel imprisoned in her tower. He certainly hoped their fates would be a sight better than those of that maiden and her prince.
Seeing him, Christine slowly put her brush down, while her fingers gripped the edge of the table tightly, as though afraid she might float away if she let go. She was careful not to look at him, so all he saw was her pale cheek. That whole day, she had been the same. When she first entered the church, she had looked calm enough, but as the ceremony progressed, she had gone paler and stiller, until she resembled a marble statue. That impression was only heightened by her wedding gown, the same silver one she'd worn the night they met. At first, Edward had thought it was a sweet gesture from Christine, to deliberately choose that gown for the wedding as a reminder, but when he asked, she'd looked confused, making him feel rather foolish, so he hadn't pressed the matter.
He'd supposed her strange behavior was mere wedding nerves. But now here she was, looking like a prisoner about to face the gallows. And he was the hangman.
"Look here, Christine," he said, fumbling for words. "I can see that you're not... We don't have to do this. Not until... you feel ready."
She turned to him then, her eyes glittering strangely in the candlelight. "Doesn't your great aunt's will stipulate that we must produce an heir?" she asked.
He blushed. "Within five years. Or the inheritance goes to someone else." He didn't tell her about the orphanage, not wanting her to think they were taking money away from needy children.
"Then I'm ready."
In a calm, matter-of-fact manner, quite unlike her nervousness when he first entered the room, she got into bed and looked at him expectantly. Now it was his turn to feel apprehensive. He wished he hadn't eaten so much cheese at supper. He wished he'd drunk a bit more. Wine could have loosened his nerves. He wondered if he could have rung a servant up and asked for a glass now. But no, it would not do to keep his bride waiting. With a shrug, he slipped under the cover and lay down next to her, while she blew out the candle. They didn't touch, but he could feel her next to him and smell the scent of lavender from her hair, and nearly lost his courage again.
He glanced at Christine. She was lying on her back, staring up at the ceiling.
"Is this... your first time?" she asked, not looking at him.
Damnation. He hadn't thought about that. This was his first time, but not hers. What would she think? Would she find his inexperienced attempts clumsy and pathetic, or would she grit her teeth and bear it because it was her wifely duty? He didn't want her to be uncomfortable with him.
Without knowing why, he blurted out, "No."
He immediately regretted it. He had promised to be honest with her, and now, in this most intimate moment at the start of their life together, he couldn't even keep his words. But it was too late to go back on it now.
"You do know what to do, don't you?" She sounded a little exasperated, and he didn't blame her.
"... Yes." Just not with another person.
Christine turned to her side. Their eyes met, and her hard, businesslike look softened a little with... what? Pity? Sympathy? She leaned over, closing the gap between them, and brushed her lips over his, which had gone dry. He remembered wondering about kissing her. Whatever he'd conjured up in his imagination, fueled by scant experiences of the few kisses he'd stolen at childhood parties and from the ladies of Covent Garden, this wasn't it. This barely counted as a kiss, especially when she seemed to change her mind at the last moment and turned her head abruptly to the side, causing his mouth to land on her chin instead.
Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound. Perhaps it would ease them both, if he could touch her... He edged a little closer, fumbling through the layers of linen and cotton until his fingers found bare skin. The unfamiliar sensation of another person's flesh, a woman's, under his hand, was startling. She was soft but cold, as cold as her lips. Why was she so cold? The room was warm, almost stiflingly so. He was burning, with embarrassment more than anything. Yet she remained cold, unresponsive, aloof. He hardly knew what he was touching, her legs, her hips, or her waist, trying to find a place, a way to get her to look at him, to react to him, instead of turning away from him as far as she could, burying her face in the pillow as though he was hurting her.
His arms could no longer hold his body up from her. One slipped, causing his hips to dig painfully into hers. He could feel himself hardening just from the contact with her skin, but tried as he might, he couldn't feel anything from her. She was there in body only.
"Christine, look at me," he pleaded, his voice shaking. "Please." She didn't move, but he could see tears gleaming in the corners of her eyes, and under him, her chest shook with silent sobs. At the sight of those tears, the physical arousal he'd felt disappeared instantly, to be replaced by a sense of disgust and self-loathing. Christine didn't want this but couldn't say so. And here he was, pawing at her and forcing himself on her like those drunken brutes that frequented Covent Garden. No, even worse, because they knew they were drunken brutes and they were paying for a service, whereas he was doing this in the name of his husbandly rights. He was no better than his father.
"This isn't right," he mumbled. "I'm sorry."
He got out of bed and fled into the dressing room without looking back.
***
And so Edward spent his wedding night on a sofa in the dressing room, flagellating himself over the shambles he had made of the whole thing. Why oh why hadn't he married some simple peasant girl, or one of those vapid debutantes who didn't have much to say for themselves? With such a wife, married life may be dull, but it would be safe. But no, he had to fancy himself some knight in shining armor coming to the rescue of a fair maiden. Only she was no maid, and he was no knight either. Just an ungainly, untried boy who didn't even know his own mind.
But it was no use regretting it now. They were man and wife, and they had to act accordingly. Doubtless, other couples had disastrous wedding nights as well, only no one talked about it. He would tell her the truth in the morning and apologize and reassure her that he was willing to wait until she was comfortable with him.
However, the next morning, when Christine emerged from her room, pale and hollow-eyed, Edward's resolution failed him. In their rush to depart for Yorkshire, there was no time to bring up the matter. Christine said a quick goodbye to her mother, asked one of the maids to take care of her rosebushes, and entered the carriage. As soon as Edward followed her in, she settled down amongst the cushions and wraps and promptly closed her eyes, preventing any attempt at conversation. With a sigh, Edward pulled out a book—an English translation of Gargantua and Pantagruel—and endeavored to lose himself in the story. Perhaps he only needed to give her time.
Occasionally, he would look up from the book to study Christine. She wasn't really sleeping, he knew. She was too still, her eyes closed too tightly. What was she thinking? What did she feel about him? Repulsion, hate, or simply contempt? Did she regret marrying him? For the first time, Edward felt some curiosity about her unknown lover and why he had cast her aside. She couldn't love that man still, could she? Edward wondered why it should be of any importance to him.
They journeyed in silence for most of that day. After a brief stop at Biggleswade for some luncheon, Christine no longer pretended to sleep, but she spent the rest of the day staring out the window with such a melancholy look that Edward could hardly stand it.
The only thing that broke the monotony was the moment the carriage lurched over a pothole in the road and sent Christine into his lap. As they tried to disentangle themselves, Edward tried not to notice how her breasts were pressed against his chest or how her hands brushed across his thighs. He had to push her away, rather more roughly than he intended, before their proximity became too uncomfortable a reminder of their botched wedding night. Christine may find his brusqueness offensive, but he had no choice.
They stopped at Peterborough for the night. When the landlord asked how many rooms they required, Edward said firmly, "Two, please," and saw Christine visibly relax.
A good night's sleep must have calmed her somewhat, for the next morning, Christine seemed a little more alive, if not exactly cheery. She watched the landscape with a keener interest, and even asked him about his book and Hurstfield Hall. However, when Edward tried to breach the subject of their wedding night, her face turned to stone.
"We don't have to discuss it," she said rather sharply.
Edward clammed up. He'd wanted to tell her the truth to show that he trusted her, just as she had trusted him with the truth about her virginity, but it appeared she didn't welcome such trust. So he said lamely, "All right. But I meant what I said. We don't have to... Not until you're ready." Hopefully, that'll allow me time to be ready as well.
When the familiar shapes of the Pennines appeared on the horizon late that afternoon, Edward could feel strength returning to his mind and body. He glanced at Christine, who was watching the approaching mountains, looking more and more melancholy by the minute, and realized he had miscalculated in bringing her here at this time of day and this time of year. He had the advantage of a local, being able to see the beauty of Yorkshire even in the gathering gloom, under that gray March sky heavy with raincloud, but for her, it must be all wildness and desolation.
When the carriage stopped so the lamps could be lit, Edward saw Christine eyeing the footman tucking a pistol and a cudgel into his coat.
"There have been reports of highwaymen along these roads," he explained. "Better be safe than sorry." A look at Christine's face made him realize he'd made another blunder. Talk of highwaymen in this landscape would be the last thing to put her mind at ease.
Gradually, the lights of Hurstfield Hall appeared in the distance like a beacon. Edward bounced in his seat, eager to show off his ancestral home to his bride. As the carriage rolled to a stop on the gravel drive at the front, Christine got out first without waiting for his help. Following her, Edward saw her looking up at the house with an almost frightened expression. He took her limp, cold hand in his and walked with her toward the door, where Mrs. Wayne stood waiting, with all the maids and footmen lined up behind her, ready to welcome the new mistress of Hurstfield Hall.
After a brief introduction, Edward led Christine into the front hall. He could see that Mrs. Wayne and the staff had outdone themselves. All the windows, previously boarded up to avoid taxation, were now opened, their glass panes gleaming. The oak panels had been polished to a mirror shine, the tapestries showed off their rich colors, and a cheerful fire roared in the hearth.
"Welcome home," he said, beaming at Christine.
His smile disappeared when he saw her dull eyes. She is probably just tired, he told himself. But he couldn't shake the feeling that she had been considering him and the Hall, and had found both wanting.

Toxic Tony stans really have the weirdest logic
Tony stan: *Starts an argument to defend Tony for trying to murder Bucky by using the same arguments they always use*
Me: *Uses the same counterarguments that most of the people in this corner of the fandom uses, including mentioning Howard’s connection to Hydra*
Tony stan: “you are victim blaming!!”
Me: “Howard freely chose to enable hydra, and one of the most obvious outcomes from joining or at least aiding an organization like hydra is being killed. Howard made his horrible choices and did what he wanted without any type of coercion.”
Tony stan: “You are justifying murder! You are sick! And why aren't you blaming Peggy, Steve, and Bucky for it too?
Me: “How is outlining how organizations like hydra operates when it comes to the people working with them justifying murder? Howard deserved prison and other legal punishments, and so did Peggy and colonel Phillips because they committed the same crimes. But why would I blame Steve and Bucky? They were both ‘dead’ when the shield founders started to enable hydra. So how are either of them responsible? Also, didn't this argument start because you are trying to justify Tony attempting to commit murder? Because that is a double standard, and when you add in the context for both of the situations, your arguments becomes even more hypocritical.”
Tony stan: *Doesn't respond*

At the beginning of age of avengers, someone assumes that Tony is the leader and he corrects them and say that it’s Steve.
And that surprised me because I assumed that Steve and Tony were co-leaders, but no, Steve was CHOSEN as the leader of the avengers. I was about to say that Tony was second in command, but I’m assuming that’s Nat.
But, as surprised as I was about this revelation (I literally hadn’t seen the movie in 8 years until 3 days ago), it instantly made sense.
As much as the anti Steve crowd hates on Steve, on several occasions we’ve seen Steve not only inspire people, but also get them to follow him. After someone commits to following Steve, they’re typically loyal to him.
We do not see this with Tony.
The issue with Tony isn’t that he’s flawed and has trauma, it’s how he treats others and how he processes trauma. When you lash out at others, ignore them, insult them (for your own amusement); don’t consider anyone else, etc, you more times than not will alienate people who are ok your side or, at least, want to be. A person having trauma doesn’t excuse how they treat others. And there is only so long most will people up with that behavior before leaving, which is their right.
I believe the only person who stayed by Tony’s side no matter what was Happy. Tony and Rhodey commonly fought and Rhodey even sided against Tony as well. Pepper had to take a break from Tony due to his own actions.
People can forgive flaws, but often struggle to forgive habitual poor behavior and various transgressions that comes with it.
We cannot except people to respect Tony or want to follow when he makes a joke about the PTSD (Capsickle), their traditional clothes (Thor), job endangerment (Rhodey; Tony made a transphobic joke about an event that didn’t happen), as well as sexual remarks (Natasha). And that’s not all that he did. This goes beyond being flaws, especially when you’re supposed to work with these people and they’re allegedly your friends.
He also doesn’t tell anyone about his trauma and OFTEN deflects, which may include insults or cracking inappropriate jokes. No one should have to deal with that all because someone is traumatized, especially as ALL OF THEM are dealing with their own and equally valid trauma.
Comparatively, Steve does not do that.
The people who work with Steve and are friends with him take him seriously. They support him and he supports them.
We see this going back to the 1940s. Peggy believed in Steve based off of his resilience and faith of convictions. She challenges him when he accepts his current circumstances.
After Steve saves literally over 400 men by himself, he earns the respect of not only colonel Phillips, but the men he saved as well. When he says he wants to pick his own team, in addition to the wish being respected, the chosen men flat out say that they’d follow Cap anywhere.
This must be stressed: these men were held prisoner and knew they’d encounter the most dangerous weapon and men in the entire war and readily agreed because Captain America asked.
In winter soldier, Steve is declared a criminal and is on the run. When he breaks into the shield headquarters, he gives his speech and EVERYONE minus hydra agents refuse to launch the coded because Captain America explain to them that some dangerous shit was going down. They believed his word because his actions and his character is THAT respected.
See the trend here: people listening and following Steve because they believe he’s genuine and wants to do what’s right.
In age of ultron, we hear a reference that he was chosen as leader. The events in this movie proves why Steve was chosen and Tony wasn’t.
Whether or not you believe Tony was right to crested ultron, he still should’ve told his team what Wanda made him see AND explained why he wanted to create this tech/weapon. Instead, he deliberately kept it a secret and pressured Bruce into helping him. Ironically, despite the claims that Steve feels like he knows that’s best, this is exactly what Tony assumes.
Let’s be clear: not only are Steve, nat, Bruce, hawk eye, and Thor adults, they are also avengers as well. They don’t need Tony to protect them and they all of the capabilities of deciding if they want to do something dangerous and risk their lives. And it’s ego centric as hell for him to actually believe that Steve, of all people, would guilt him by saying he should’ve saved them. Steve wouldn’t have done such a thing both saying that or even making Tony feel bad if he did all he could do.
Despite creating his murder bot due to not consulting his team because he knew they’d say no, Tony did it AGAIN.
Again, where’s the leadership? Where’s the accountability? Where’s the understanding that he may not like the answer, but he does owe it to his team to talk to them? And, again, he thinks he knows what’s best.
What does Steve do in this same movie? The twins start fighting besides him, which he doesn’t interfere with because ultron is the bigger threat. But, rather than fight them like his instinct tells them, he stop and listens to what they have to say.
I want to note that people like to say (and some are thinking), it’s good that Tony built what eventually became ultron, well, it’s good that Steve extended a hand to the twins. They also played a huge role in why the world didn’t lose half its popular, which was a consequence of Steve’s decision making.
Once Steve heard them out and was willing to let them into the fold, he defended them when other avengers tried to attack them. He didn’t leave them out to dry.
Then, when the actual fight happens Tony reveals a few minutes in that they have no other options but to abandon civilians and let them die.
Steve flat out refuses that as an option and makes the PERSONAL decision to stay until every civilian is safe. Not one person will be left to die.
I don’t know about anyone else, but Steve comes off as the clear leader and Tony doesn’t.
What happens next is that literally every current avenger and the twins stay to help. Nat literally tells Steve that this would be a beautiful place to die and explicitly says she’s fighting alongside him.
Whether or not Steve spoke to people, he inspired them to follow him by his actions.
Who is inspired to follow Tony?
Tony flirts with retirement, which no criticism against that.
But, alongside nat, Steve personally trains Sam, Rhodey, and Wanda for team avengers. After accepting Wanda into the fold, he treats her life everyone else.
In civil war, Steve was hands on with wandas training so she could control her power and made sure was protected. He accepted responsibility for not accounting for unforeseen threats, such as the explosives and explained to Wanda the realities of their job. He was realistic with her, but used that as motivation as to why they should strive to be better. Steve was outraged when he found out that she was locked up and freed her from Tony’s unlawful imprisonment.
Even if someone argues she should be locked up, Tony did not talk to her. Wanda didn’t consent to being confined to the house. This is another example of believing he knew what was best for people rather than talking to them and seeing how they feel. He isn’t giving others the right to make informed decisions for themselves and in general.
Steve, on the other hand, consistently considers what people feel because he TALKS to people. He has meaningful conversations with people, such as nat and Sam. Steve formed connections to people, which made them feel close to him.
But, let’s circle back to Tony, he takes a MINOR without the explicit consent of his guardian. Not only does he take Peter without May’s permission, he takes Peter OVERSEAS and to fight at that.
To make matters worse, Peter doesn’t know WHY he’s fighting or what for.
Where’s the oversight or accountability in any of that?
During the fight, someone flat out asks how old Peter is. Tony follows up after the fight, during homecoming, with almost inviting Peter to stay at the avengers compound. As a reminder, Peter was still a literal teenager and Tony still DID NOT ask peter’s guardian if this was okay.
Where as Steve explicitly tells people what they are getting into. He lays out what to expect and that you have a choice in it. Steve never pressures people into helping him and they usually volunteer. And, whatever happens afterwards, he’s there for them.
How was Tony’s mentorship with Peter?
He’s not actively involved with Peter after taking him in as a mentee, pawns him off in Happy, thinks at status reports are sufficient, and ignored Peter’s concerns. Peter was a minor who just had the most surreal experience of his life and Tony doesn’t think this kid would be amped and itching to do more?
Tony doesn’t think Peter might need some hands on mentorship? Tony thought he could mentor from afar with updates and camera footage, but it actually engage.
Them damned accords!
Tony signed the document due to guilt and tried to get others to sign it despite him being mostly responsible for why the accord even exist or, at least, did a lot of shit that is now being penalized. I’m not sure if he actually read it OR if someone summarized the point.
Whereas Steve DID read the accords and his stance wasn’t one of guilt, but concern and ethical issues with what’s in the accords. Steve was prepared to retire because his beliefs didn’t align with what was being asked of him and others. He didn’t ask anyone to back or follow him.
But, people do eventually back him and follow his lead. They know exactly what they’re getting into. And, despite knowing the risks and eventually getting arrested, they stick to their convictions.
When Tony finds out that Bucky killed his parents, despite knowing that Bucky was brainwashed for LITERALLY decades, he tries to kill him. When cap realizes this, he constantly tries to neutralize Tony.
Let’s go back. Steve knowing that Bucky needs to be arrested, decides to save Bucky both for Bucky’s protection AND so those trying to bring him in doesn’t get hurt/killed. Once Bucky is safely arrested, Steve lets the situation go.
Oh, before I really get into infinity wars, there is no mention of Wanda harming other people even accidentally. :)
Tony, as usual, ignores what others wanted, like strange, and think he knows what’s best. He plans to fight thanos henchman by himself as well as thanos completely ignoring the concept of teamwork. (He also jumps to insulting others for his own shits and giggles—keep in mind, these are people he doesn’t know).
What does Steve do?
He was successfully on the run with nat and Sam and they worked together as a TEAM to save vision. They then meet up with rhodey and formulate a plan as to how to stop thanos. Steve coordinates with various people to have the battle in Wakanda. He doesn’t assume he can fight thanos by himself or should.
Steve refuses to trade lives because every life is valuable.
When the Snap happens, Tony fucks up into his cabin in the woods and lives his life.
And what does Steve do?
Run a support group to keep hope alive for people who are trying to see the best in a shitty situation.
He stays an avenger and does whatever needs to be done because he’s there to serve the people regardless of the despair he feels.
Don’t get it twisted, Steve is not perfect, but he constantly led by example, put the wants and needs of others before himself, was a hands on mentor, listened and supported others, and refused to leave anyone behind and/or die. He was always willing to be the only man fighting the battle and even to die for his beliefs.
And this man is called selfish by some.
Where as Tony consistently believed he knew what was best for others, was willing to let people die, was a shit mentor, mocked and ridiculed others, put his own feelings first, etc.
And this is seen as a leader???
Let’s not forget that dangerous tech he left to a MINOR after he died. Peter was so overwhelmed by the responsibility, he gave it to the first person who listened to him and who he believed to be responsible. This isn’t a condemnation of people. Again, his a literal minor—15 or 16. Who is overwhelmed about the shit stark left on his shoulders.
When old cap spoke to Sam, he gave AN ADULT, his shield. One with loved experiences and who knew how to handle complicated feelings. He knew what Sam was willing to handle and could handle.
And another thing: the fact that people were willing to go on the run with Steve says a lot. This is the second time Steve has been on the run and people, Sam and nat, were willing to follow him and assist (both times).
Tony couldn’t even get people to stay faithful to the legal accords. Rhodey said peace out as soon as cap returned. Nat abandoned Tony to join Steve. Vision questioned his life choices, and then went black to be with Wanda. And Peter didn’t know what the fuck was going on.
And Tony stans think he should’ve been leader based off of using his money for the avengers and giving them a place to crash.
LOL!
People want Wanda to apologize to Tony for invading his mind when he should apologize for her parents dying. If you’re a weapons manufacturer, there’s no such thing as believing only the “good guys” will use your weapons. You know your weapons could and will get into the wrong hands. And you also know that without war, you’d be out of a job. But, also the “good guys” are usually imperialist who fuck over other countries as they undermined these government structures to steal resources from them and other shit.
Just because starks stopped manufacturing weapons doesn’t mean he can escape accountability for what his weapons did to others.
Tony also ratted out that Clint had a family and was fine with them being jailed because they took the “wrong” side. Did he apologize to any of these people? The ones he had jailed and the ones who were forced to go on the run for a bill he supported, and then admitted was fucked up? (The same law he later broke twice.)
But, he’s a leader???

The First Avenger info dump because I can
Enlistment/Dog Tags/Awards:
It is canon that Bucky Barnes enlisted on his own right after Pearl Harbor (and Steve tried). This would make his dog tags a type two. His service number would start with a 1 (enlisted army soldier) and a 2 (from New York). This site can be used to generate dog tag numbers (I haven’t tried all the functions, but be aware the O for officers is a 0 starting in 1942).
During WW2 (amongst other times), there was the Regular Army and the Army of the United States (which no longer exists). Voluntary enlisted men were in the Regular, with draftees in the other (officers were often part of both and had two separate ranks). If you choose to divert from canon and make Bucky a draftee (I personally have always liked this fanon because I’m evil), his service number would start with 32 (drafted, New York). This would also better explain why Bucky rises to the rank of Sergeant so quickly as promotions happened constantly in the AUS ( Dwight D. Eisenhower rose from a colonel to five-star general in three years).
Steve would have a different type of dog tags than Bucky (including a different chain). He would have a type three (as would anyone between July 20, 1943 and March 31, 1944). I will illustrate the differences below with the custom tags I made for Steve's sister and Bucky in my fanfic (feel free to use the info from them). The N and 7 in her tag are for nurse.
The T42 you’ll see below is the year tetanus shots were recieved. I’ve seen some with two years and some with one. The B is blood type and the P is religion.
Steve received an award for rescuing the POWs. Seeing as this wasn’t presented by the president, I’ve decided it was the Distinguished Service Cross. This award comes with a $2 pay raise; as a Captain, Steve previously made $200 a month, paid monthly (post-serum). Bucky made $78 as a Sergeant, with a $3.90 pay raise after 3 years of service (December 1944). Steve also obtained SSR pins after joining them (and I believe the Howling Commandos should have as well). (Even though nurses had the rank of an officer, they didn’t get equal pay until after WW2. They earned $70 a month for the first 3 years.)
Many soldiers put their second dog tag in their boot, usually slipped on the shoe laces in between the tongue and top of the shoe.
Not a fact, but I will add a link here to a website where you can either buy Bucky/Steve’s dogtags or make custom ones for $10 (personally, I would advocate for the custom as Bucky’s say he’s not from NY and show he is a draftee. Also, he has type B blood, not O. And Steve is Protestant, not Catholic. The site also states officer’s service numbers didn’t start with 9, but those with special duties did. His service number would most like be between 800000 and 999999, starting with a 0- to show he’s an officer).
Sister: Margaret E Rogers N-724669 T42 B                         P
Bucky: James B Barnes 12831412 T42 B Margaret Rogers (next of kin) 1404 Alameda Ave (next of kin address) Brooklyn NY     P (address, religion)
Italian Front:
Seeing as the 107th were venturing to England in June 1943, they most likely headed straight to Sicily from there (or diverged if they had fuel) to aid in the invasion, continuing into the invasion of the mainland before pushing troops back toward Austria. Italy surrendered at the very beginning of the invasion of the mainland, so the Allies only fought Nazis and Italian soldiers loyal to Mussolini (National Republican Army), who was arrested during the invasion of Sicily and broken out during the mainland invasion. Seeing as Chester Phillips and Peggy were with Steve, they must have joined the 107th later. In my canon, they (and Howard) join at the beginning of the mainland invasion.
AM-lira (Allied-Military Currency), 100 "am-lire" for a U.S. dollar, was the currency specifically put into circulation for Allied Military after the landing in Sicily. It was used interchangeably with their normal currency. Once the Howling Commandoes join the SSR, they use British currency.
The 107th’s camp pre-Battle of Azzano was most likely behind the  Volturno Line. Azzano is part of Umbria, which was about 170 miles into enemy territory.
Post-Azzano, the camp was most likely behind the Barbara Line. Walking approx 533 miles from Kreuzberg, Austria, with troops alternating resting periods in the trucks, walking approximately 42 miles for 12 hours a day, they would reach camp in thirteen days.
Random:
Steve’s canon address according to Avengers is 1404 Alameda Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11362. This is a Queens zip code. I changed it to 11237.
As a Sergeant, Bucky would command a squad of 12 soldiers (privates), split into 3 fireteams. He was also assigned a PFC (one of the scout riflemen) as an assistant; this soldier could serve as either the squad leader's messenger to the platoon commander or could be used to relay orders to other squad teams, as needed. Sergeants are responsible for the individual training, personal appearance and cleanliness of their soldiers, and are expected to set a standard for lower-ranked soldiers to live up to.
Women did have their own army sect for part of the war (Women’s Army Corps) but they didn’t go overseas as they didn’t legally get benefits overseas {I didn’t read a lot on this, take this with a grain of salt}. They did all the non-fighting jobs like listening to radio transmissions and fixing weapons.
On the ship, there were three-tier bunks. Enlisted men got footlockers under their beds (you could lift up the base), while officers got standing lockers. I would assume water on ships was cold, filtered from the ocean, and they had showers.
Showers were available but not popular at this time, just like hot water heaters. Many people still boiled water to take baths. People also didn’t bathe as often and there was only one kind of shampoo and no conditioner. Women made their own concoctions, used soap, or straight up would do egg masks. Hair was kept clean by doing the “100 strokes” with a hairbrush that was cleaned after every use. Indoor heating also wasn’t used everywhere, leaving many places still using things like fireplaces and wood stoves.
Soldiers used latrines in WW2. They also used a bucket of water and a bar of soap to wash. When water was unavailable and snow was, it was melted and used. They could also simply use things like rivers and lakes if available but if unnecessary, weren't used as lice was prevalent along with disease. Clothes weren't washed often (depending on the situation, some men went weeks without washing their uniform, only changing into dry socks when necessary) but when they were, they were boiled in big pots of water in mass and hung on a line to dry (there were also other ways, but I preferred this one). They carried an extra shirt, socks and laces, water canteen, ammunition, a spade, grenades, a gas mask, food rations, a cup, a wash kit (toothpaste, razor, comb, etc), first aid pouch, and a helmet (usually on their head) in their haversack's/on their belt (and rations, of couse). There was also a tent pack, but most soldiers would simply carry a raincoat. Lots of candles and oil lanterns to light the night. Canvas water bags – also known as Lister bags – were hung around camps and used for dispensing drinking water in which a dose of chlorine was added for purification.
Medical:
Morbidity from such diseases as tuberculosis (anti-tuberculosis agents didn’t begin to appear until 1949), rheumatic fever, typhus, dysentery, and malaria were high. There were tuberculosis quarantine wards separate from the other patients and were eventually evacuated. Frostbite was also common during the cold. Hepatitis A and B were also prevalent. Trench foot was also common, sometimes leading to jungle rot (often referred to as 'the creeping cruds'). PTSD was known then as 'battle fatigue'; men showcasing symptoms were often just given rest and food near the front lines and would normally rejoin the fight in a few days or were evacuated if necessary. All soldiers were vaccinated against tetanus, typhoid, smallpox, cholera, and yellow fever before shipping out. Dental hygiene was extremely important and many field hospitals were equipped with dental prosthetics.
Food:
A-Rations referred to fresh/refrigerated meats, bread, and vegetables, prepared in mess halls. These meals were basically the same as C-rations, but fresh and always warm.
C-Rations consisted of one M-unit (12 oz can, meat), one B-unit (12 oz can, bread/dessert), and an accessory pack. Each daily ration consisted of three M-units, three B-units, and three accessory packs (one for each meal). The cans were made of tinplate. The cans had a gold lacquer finish. C-rations can be eaten cold or hot and were cooked with a Coleman's pocket stove (which was made specifically for WW2 soldiers).
M-units initially had three kinds: meat and beans, meat and potato hash, and meat and vegetable stew. In 1943, meat and spaghetti in tomato sauce was added; along with meat and noodles, pork and rice, frankfurters and beans, and chicken & vegetables in 1944. 1944 also brought a chopped ham, egg, & potato unit and compressed cereal B-units to replace meat & vegetable hash.
B-units contained crackers, three sugar tablets, loose candy (Brach's chocolate caramels, candy-coated peanuts/raisins, Charms hard candy), and a packet/small can of beverage mix (instant coffee, powdered lemon drink, or bouillon soup powder). Orange drink powder was added in 1944. Due to spoilage, the loose candy was replaced in 1944 with a Brach's fudge disk or a Jim dandy.
Accessory packs (brown butcher paper) contained sugar tablets, water purification tablets, a flat wooden spoon, a piece of candy-coated chewing gum, three 3-packs or one 9-pack of cigarettes, a book of 20 moisture resistant matches, a paper-wrapped P-38 can opener (with instructions that everyone immediately throws out), and about 22.5 sheets of toilet paper. Cigarette brands included Camel, Chelsea, Chesterfield, Craven A-Brand, Lucky Strike, Old Gold, Philip Morris, Player's, Raleigh, and Wings (these were traded constantly). Can openers were meant to be disposable but soldiers wore them on their dog tags for later use either with opening cans or other things (clean muddy boots, screw screws, open letters, strip wires, trim loose thread, and sharpen pencils).
Seriously. They really gave every single soldier three can openers a day. With printed instructions. During metal rationing. Of which soldiers just put them on thier dog tag chains for later use. Where did all these excess can openers go? And why half a sheet of toilet paper?
Clothes:
The nurses wore an olive drab service jacket and skirt (they are seen in pants as well) and cap, khaki shirt and tie, and brown shoes (wore nursing shoes or boots). The rank insignia (a single gold bar for second lieutenants, the vast majority of nurses) was worn on the epaulets. A gold "U.S." pin was worn on each collar, and a gold caduceus with a red N was worn on each lapel. Whenever the service jacket wasn't worn, the rank insignia was pinned to the right collar, the caduceus on the left.
Soldier’s field uniforms looked like this (with some adjustments based on gun used). And yes, the leggings are neccessary, they helped keep feet dry:

The Phoenix Project Chapter 3 Preview
Tumblr media
Behind? Catch up HERE 😊
********
Tony was so deep in thought that he didn’t even realise how fast he was walking until he rounded the final corner towards his office and proceeded to slam directly into a solid wall, dropping him flat on his ass and sending his glasses skittering across the floor.
A wall that actually turned out to be a human, a tall, blond-haired and blue-eyed human who from the feel of him was built from something other than normal flesh and bone.
“Holy shit!” he exclaimed as he squinted up at the guy, who looked about as stunned as Tony felt. “What the hell are you made from, iron?”
“Oh gods, I’m so sorry! I didn’t see you there!” the guy said, sputtering apologies as he reached a hand down to help Tony up. Tony took the offered hand and hoisted himself back to his feet, frowning as he focused in on the soldier’s face.
It was Captain Rogers, Mr Go-Get-‘Em himself from the X-302 briefing.
“Mr Stark!” Rogers exclaimed, his pale cheeks flushing pink. “Uh… are you all right?”
“Yeah, I think so,” Tony said shortly as he scanned the blurry floor for his glasses, finally locating them about four metres away. They weren’t broken, thank the gods. Tony did have a spare pair hiding somewhere between his office and the house, but finding both the time and the patience to look for them while at the same time not being able to see a single goddamn thing wasn't something he felt like doing at the moment.
Or any moment, for that matter.
“Are your glasses okay?” Rogers asked, his expression hovering between a grimace and something that Tony couldn’t quite identify. He slid the glasses onto his face, sneaking a quick but admiring glance at Rogers’ broad shoulders before forcibly averting his gaze.
“Yeah, they seem good too. No harm done.”
And now you can move yourself right along, pretty boy, before I manage to embarrass myself even more.
“All right,” said Rogers, and Tony could’ve sworn that the flush on Rogers’ cheeks grew even deeper, right along with the deep wrinkle between his eyebrows.
If Tony didn’t know better, he would've thought that the no-nonsense pilot almost looked flustered.
But pilots didn’t get flustered, did they? Weren’t they always bragging about how nothing ever fazed them? That they could scale the edge of a mountain close enough to distinguish the different colours of the rocks or stare down the tip of an approaching Meridian Class-III anti-aircraft missile and not even break a sweat?
At least that’s what Colonel Phillips was always saying, according to the briefing reports that Tony had to read through every single day, and he was pretty sure that Rhodey spouted something similar to the hordes of cadets that came through the flight training school every six months.
Pilots were supposed to be invincible. But while Rogers definitely looked the part, it didn’t take a genius to figure out that something about Tony rattled him.
Probably just needs to get laid, Tony thought, stifling a cough as his traitorous mind proceeded to immediately conjure up a mental image of Captain Rogers standing in front of him wearing nothing except for… well… no, on second thought, nothing would do just fine, thank you very much.
Good freaking grief. What the goddamn hell is wrong with me?
The full chapter will post on Monday, April 13th 😊

The more I learn about Bucky in the OG comics the more I realize that in TFA they 100% sacrificed the Steve/Bucky friendship in favour of the Steve/Peggy romance.
Having Steve and Bucky be childhood best friends tells us that they deeply care about each other but the fact that they don’t actually have a ton of screen time together (and half of that is action/montage scenes where we don’t really get to see their relationship) means the audience mostly has to rely on what we’re told. Considering how their relationship is the one that carries another two films, I feel like they should have put more effort in to making the audience love him just as much as Steve. And I know the fans love Bucky but the fans didn’t really start loving him until after TWS.
Also, a) between Bucky shipping out and hearing about the 107th getting captured Bucky isn’t even mentioned and I 10/10 forgot he existed the first time I watched the film and b) I’m fairly certain Colonel Phillips has more screen time than Bucky does.
Had they stuck closer to Bucky’s comic canon of him being a teenager raised on a military base who was made Steve’s sidekick/the anti-Hitler Youth we could have had more screen time with him without sacrificing the relationship between him and Steve.
Bucky could have been at Camp Lehigh, on Steve’s Cap tour, fighting with the Commandos, and on that plane during the final showdown. All without sacrificing Peggy’s screen time because she was there for all/most of that as well.
(Sidenote making Bucky’s death be on the plane is primo opportunity to have the last thing he says to Steve be the line that pulls him out of WS mode)
Since Bucky and Steve are both orphans and Steve is at minimum a few years older they could have leaned hard into the found-family, protective big brother-younger brother dynamic and we still would have 100% believed that Steve would be willing to die for him 70 years later.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I loved Peggy in that movie but considering Bucky’s the one that continues to be a main/driving character in the other Cap movies they should have leaned more onto his character as well in the first film.

headcanon :   howling  commandos
the  howling  commandos  was  an  elite  combat  unit  of  the  western  allies  that  consisted  of  eight  registered  members  that  was  led  by  steve  rogers  and  overseen  &  supervised  by  colonel  chester  phillips  of  the  ussr.
sergeant  james  “ bucky ”  barnes
romanian - american,  107th  infantry  regiment.  bucky  acted  as  the  units  designated  marksman  as  the  us  military  had  no  snipers.  however,  bucky  received  training  from  british  &  french  snipers  of  the  allies  during  deployment  prior  to  joining  the  commandos.  an  expert  mathematician  &  an  exceptional  marksman  caused  him  to  garter  a  reputation  amongst  the  allied  forces  as  well  as  their  enemies  until  his  capture  by  hydra.
bucky  would  operate  largely  as  a  “ lone  wolf ”  during  his  membership  to  the  commandos  unless  actively  assaulting  a  hydra  facility,  camp  or  base  with  the  rest  of  the  team  as  he  was  most  useful  when  able  to  work  autonomously  so  he  could  make  use  of  his  skills  in  camouflage,  fieldcraft,  map  teading,  and  signaling  and  was  the  commando’s  “ hunter ”  when  a  direct  assault  wasn’t  available.
when  with  the  team  bucky  would  cover  their  retreat  or  operate  around  the  edges  of  the  assault  as  a  shadow  as  opposed  to  being  in  the  center  of  skirmishes  as  steve  was.
sergeant  timothy  “ dum  dum ”  dugan
american,  non - commissioned  officer,  107th  infantry  regiment.  bucky  and  dugan  worked  closely  together  prior  to  joining  the  commandos  though  dugan  had  more  experience  than  bucky  did.  dugan  was  a  brilliant  tactician,  an  expert  marksman  and  had  olympian  level  strength.  he  was  fondly  named  the  most  stubborn  of  the  commandos,  was  loyal  to  a  fault  and  persistent  in  the  face  of  impossible  odds.  dugan  was  capable  of  uplifting  the  morale  of  those  around  him  through  his  optimism  and  sheer  refusal  to  submit.
dugan  later  worked  closely  with  col.  phillips,  peggy  carter  and  steve  rogers  when  planning  and  strategising  their  next  operations  or  assaults.  dugan  would  later  lead  the  commandos  following  the  death  of  steve  rogers.
private  gabriel  “ gabe ”  jones
african - american,  92nd  infantry  division.  like  all  members  of  the  commandos  gabe  was  an  expert  marksman  and  was  the  teams  designated  translator  when  agent  carter  wasn’t  available.  fluent  in  english,  german  and  french.  gabe  also  had  an  expert  skill  in  interrogation  and  negotiation,  fondly  reputed  as  having  a  silver  tongue  and  typically  handled  heavy  artillery.  gabe  was  often  viewed  as  the  glue  of  the  team,  capable  of  exceptional  charm  and  helping  to  keep  everyone  in  high  spirits  when  in  dire  situations.  bucky  met  gabe  when  they  were  both  held  prisoner  by  hydra  and  there  was  no  denying  that  many  of  the  prisoners  would  not  have  held  themselves  together  without  game’s  optimism  and  care.
gabe’s  also  one  of  the  only  members  of  the  commandos  to  have  any  kind  of  musical  talent,  not  that  the  rest  of  the  team’s  efforts  weren’t  greatly  appreciated  when  it  came  to  music  night.
private  james  “ jim ”  morita
japanese - american,  US  army  nisei  squadron.  jim  had  a  turbulent  experience  with  his  service  due  to  the  military  and  the  governments  paranoia  and  distrust  for  japanese  after  the  bombing  of  pearl  harbor.  he  served  primarily  for  military  construction  and  before  he  was  able  to  serve  in  the  field  was  forced  to  answer  a  questionnaire  to  determine  whether  or  not  he  was  loyal  to  the  US.  jim’s  family  members  had  been  forced  into  internment  camps  and  he  initially  struggled  to  reconcile  his  willingness  to  fight  for  the  country  that  was  his  home  and  the  fact  that  his  country  wasn’t  interested  in  fighting  for  him  or  his  family.  despite  this,  jim  still  volunteered.
jim  was  first  scout,  an  expert  marksman  and  had  the  greatest  experiences  in  anti-guerrilla  jungle  warfare,  raids,  ambushes,  sabotage  and  close  quarters  combat.  somewhat  snippy,  but  jim  was  always  the  first  to  volunteer,  the  first  in  line  for  battle  and  pushed  forward  regardless of  the  opposition.  people  outside  of  the  commandos  would  accuse  jim  of  having  a  chip  on  his  shoulder  but  this  wasn’t  the  case  at  all,  jim  was  just  a  very  intense  and  focused  individual  once  he  had  a  goal  there  was  nothing  that  could  stop  him  from  achieving  it.
major  james  “ monty ”  falsworth
british,  3rd  independent  parachute  brigade.  monty  was  one  of  the  most  experienced  members  of  the  commandos  with  nine  years  having  served  in  the  british  armed  forces.  despite  his  position,  monty  was  stubbornly  hands  on  and  rarely  let  anyone  do  anything  that  he  wasn’t  willing  to  do  himself.  this  earned  him  a  great  amount  of  respect  from  the  servicemen  under  his  management throughout  his  early  career  and  is  also  how  he  wound  up  captured  by  hydra  and  imprisoned  alongside  other  allied  soldiers.
like  dugan,  monty  was  an  expert  tactician,  combatant  and  marksman  and  served  primarily  in  raiding  parties  and  units.  monty  would  later  become  the  masked  hero  “ union  jack ”.
jaques  “ light ”  dernier
dernier  was  a  baker  turned  explosives  expert  when  he  joined  the  french  resistance  to  fight  against  nazi  german  occupation  and  is  one  of  the  only  field  members  of  the  commandos  whom  wasn’t  enlisted  in  the  military  prior  to  his  recruitment  by  steve  rogers.  prior  to  encountering  the  107th,  dernier  led  a  small  band  of  resistance  tasked  with  coordinated  sabotage  on  transport  facilities  and  telecommunications  networks.  he  had  attempted  to  warn  the  107th  of  hydra’s  approach  but  arrived  too  late  and  was  taken  prisoner  alongside  the  allied  forces.
dernier  was  a  character  all  on  his  own,  despite  several  members  of  the  commandos  inability  to  understand  french,  dernier’s  animated  means  of  talking  with  wild  hand  gestures,  loud  exclamations  and  honest  expressions  never  failed  to  get  his  thoughts  or  feelings  across  to  the  rest  of  the  team.  bucky  learned  french  basics  whilst  they  shared  a  cell  while  imprisoned  by  hydra  though  most  of  what  he  learned  consisted  of  insults  and  profanities.
agent  margaret  “ peggy ”  carter
british,  m15  spy,  french  resistance  and  agent  of  the  ussr.  peggy  was  without  a  doubt  one  of  the  greatest  assets  the  commandos  had.  she  served  as  their  code  breaker  and  translator,  communications  specialist,  master  investigator  and  tactician,  she  was  a  jack  of  all  trades  and  was  capable  of  getting  in  and  out  of  places  that  no  other  member  of  the  commandos  could.  she  served  as  an  intelligence  gatherer,  adviser  and  field  member.

The essence of this Irish passion for the EU is that Ireland doesn’t understand what it means to be an independent nation. Like so many cultures with a shaky sense of what they are, with an outsize chip on their shoulder and infantilized by being almost entirely dependent on others to survive (their “Palestinian” friends fall into that category too) the Irish hate Israel, the paradigm nation state of a people with an unequivocal sense of itself.
So, of course, Ireland bought wholesale into the whole farrago of lies and distortions that make up western left-wing globalist discourse about Israel – which is shared by the EU itself.
But there’s more to Ireland’s malevolence against Israel than this.
Over the years, Fianna Fáil governments have always been hostile to Israel. Currently, Fianna Fáil is jostling with its rival Sinn Féin – which heavily supported Frances Black’s election to the Irish Senate in 2016 – to maintain its political position.
Sinn Féin’s former military wing, the Provisional IRA, was responsible for the bloody campaigns against the UK in support of a united Ireland.
In the 1970s, Sinn Fein publicly supported the Palestinian cause. The IRA and the PLO became extremely close, training together and sharing terrorist strategies and tactics. The IRA received substantial funding and military aid from Libya’s Colonel Gaddafi, and also collaborated with Hamas and Hezbollah.
In 1980, the minister for Foreign Affairs, Fianna Fáil’s Brian Lenihan, claimed the PLO was no longer a terrorist organization and described Yasser Arafat as a “moderate.” In 2006, Sinn Fein MP Aengus O’Snodaigh described Israel as “without doubt one of the most abhorrent and despicable regimes on the planet.”
During the Second World War, Ireland was neutral. Upon learning of Hitler’s death, its Taoiseach or prime minister, Eamon de Valera, visited the German Embassy in Dublin to express his condolences.
Some IRA members, such as the high ranking Sean Russell, collaborated with the Nazis. The Fianna Fáil government denied residential visas to many Jews trying to escape Nazi Germany and to Holocaust survivors after the war.
Historically, the Catholic church in Ireland bears a heavy responsibility for this anti-Jewish hatred. Over the years, the church has pumped out stereotypical hatred of Jews as parasitical moneylenders and exploiters of working people.
In 1904, a priest, Father John Creagh, organized a two-year boycott of Jewish businesses in Limerick. The town’s small Jewish community fled in what became known as the Limerick pogrom.
In 1970 the town’s Labour mayor, Steve Coughlan, made a speech defending the Limerick pogrom, referring to Jewish money-lenders whom he termed “warble fly bloodsuckers.”
That provoked an outcry. But all this is the context in which the hateful Frances Black bill must be placed.

Foreign Policy magazine interviewed former NATO commander Phillip Breedlove. His article is interesting. He is pushing for a no-fly zone in Ukraine, and does so knowing it would lead to military strikes on Russian/Belorussian/Donbass forces.
Now, Breedlove was a major figure in pushing for harsher relations with Russia. He was allies with Victoria Nuland, Geoffrey Pyatt (then-Ambassador to Kiev), and was consulting with Wesley Clark and Colin Powell. He also had ties to a military hawk who was known for funneling inaccurate information.
He was also critical of the Obama Administration and Merkel's government, and viewed them as too soft on Russia. He even gave testimony contradicting the Obama Administration's views to Congress!
While you may not have heard of this, it's even less likely that you have heard one place where he may have gotten his anti-Russian views from.
In 2015, Breedlove paid a visit to a well-known, controversial college, whose political views were well-known. The purpose of the visit was to conduct a promotion ceremony of a university graduate to the rank of colonel. (Presumably, he was familiar with the officer, and agreed with his views.)
He would return one year later, after his retirement, to give a speech to the students there. (All students were required to attend the speech.)
The school in question was not Harvard or Yale. It was not Berkeley or UCLA. It was not a public school, and at the time was not even regionally accredited. Its name? Bob Jones University.
Needless to say, while Breedlove's emails have gotten little coverage, this has gotten even less.

Sometimes when I'm raging about how the shield founders didn't really get any consequences for what they did (apart from the way Howard died), I start imagining the deceased Howlies finding out what they did in and having a lot of... questions for the founders in the MCU afterlife

MCU Countdown Captain America: The First Avenger
It’s actually impressive that with a run of 3 movies like Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, and Thor that the first Iron Man managed to hold up the MCU practically single handedly until CA:TFA came along.
Anyway this was a fantastic movie that’s gotta be near my top for the MCU. Honestly, the Captain America movies in general have been the most successful run as a single hero franchise.
Main Character: I think even the movies later on have come to get a little held up in Captain America the Legend, an idea, THE idea to live up to.and he’s an excellent candidate for a hero, don’t get me wrong. But it is so vital to always remember the scrappy kid from Brooklyn, the one who was good, the one who believed in doing the right thing (well maybe not all the time if he could get away with it. “not the right file” really steve) Who wanted to fight, not to kill an enemy, but to stand up to bullies. A true hero.
Side Characters: PEGGGYYYYYYYYYYYY WHERE IS YOUR THIRD SEASON PEGGY WHERE IS IT *ahem* sorry. No but seriously as ‘love interest’ characters go, Peggy Carter blows them out of the water. Not a single canonical romance in the MCU so far has lived up to Peggy and Steve (closest so far is T’Challa and Nakia), and thats because they are both whole people, who see and respect each other as whole people. Besides, Steve being awkward around her is the most precious thing.
Bucky is also jarring to see since I’m so used to Winter Soldier these days. He’s so young, so innocent....(hug). Dr. Erskin said a line that I never thought of before now, but now I want to figure out how to make gifs to make a gifset. Steve asks him where he’s from, and while he later elaborates to say Germany, the first thing he says is “Queens.” It makes me wonder if Steve thought back to that moment, when years in the future, he asks a kid the same question, and the boy in the spidersuit says “Queens”
Sorry I’m getting so caught on these side characters but I LOVE THEM! Howard Stark is wonderful to see as a proto-Tony, Colonel Phillips was great (but I almost always love Tommy Lee Jones) and Red Skull....Red Skull might not be in my TOP tier of marvel villains (thats probably Loki, Hela, Vulture, and Killmonger) but he is RIGHT there behind them. He is what the perfect villain should be: A foil against the hero. Literally he’s an anti-Captain America. Also a nazi, which, in case you had any question as to where this blog leaned, is evil. unquestionably.
Other Characters: The Howling Commandos deserve their own show. I only realized watching this that Zola’s introduction was a foreshadowing for his tv-ification. Also at some point I need to do a “list of people you forgot were in the MCU” because Filch, Clara Oswald and Margaery Tyrell are all in this.
Plot: Even watching this now I never....totally understand Red Skull’s whole...plan. Like. He wants to bomb cities around the world. because. um. ? he wants to be a god? He wants to...destroy...Eh I don’t care OOOOH TESSERACT. Cause yeah this is the first movie to show an infinity stone. Also it was said to have been left behind by Odin? GOD FUCKING DAMMIT ODIN THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS.
Story: I mean I talked about this with main character I think, but I love the way the Symbol of America comes together, and what, in fact Cap really symbolizes. Because it really is the best qualities of America, rising above all the many (many dear god) faults, and it makes me feel goddamn patriotic. which has been an unfamiliar feeling as of late.
Writing/Editing: GOD I LOVE THE WRITING IN THIS MOVIE. Lines I enjoyed, although there were a helluva lot more: "People forget that the first country the nazis invaded was their own""Go get him! I can swim!"Cap approximately ~Imma get them all~ “You won’t be alone”—reflective of later, he comes in and fights alone, but its a ruse to distract from the rest of his team. "Lets go find two more"
Cinnamontography: MMMMMM I love it. There are some amazing iconic scenes in this. THE BRIIIIIIDGE Cap and Red Skull across the sides of the bridge it just...it kills me. The action scenes may have bored me a little on this rewatch but whatevs, fight scenes are hard to grab me
Design: Peggy Carter is stunning, everyone else is...fine. The biggest design thing is Red Skull and he’s scary lookin’ alright. I’m not much of a historical buff but I assume the period costumes were great.
Other: I put this on my main blog when I’m actually writing this, but here it is again: so Red Skulls weapons make the same noise as Iron Man’s repulsors, indicating that the arc reactor has some tie to the tesseract and that is never brought up even though Iron Man 2 would have set that up PERFECTLY WHAT ARE YOU DOING IRON MAN 2!!!

Meet your new Vice President!
Here is a timely editorial that exposes the hidden background of Kamala Harris from the Combat Veterans for Congress Political Action Committee that is posted here with permission of the author.
CVFC PAC supports the election of US military combat veterans to the US Senate and House of Representatives.
The editorial begins:
Kamala Harris’ father was an avowed Marxist professor in the Economics Department at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. Both of Harris’ parents were active in the Berkeley based Afro- American Association; Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were the heroes of the Afro-American Association.
The group’s leader, Donald Warden (aka Khalid al-Mansour), mentored two young Afro-American Association members, Huey Newton and Bobby Seale; they created the Maoist inspired Black Panther Party which gained strong support from Communist China; the Black Panther Party served as the model for creation of the Black Lives Matter Marxist organization.
Khalid al-Mansour subsequently went on to arrange financing and facilitated for Barack Hussein Obama to be accepted as a student to matriculate at Harvard Law School.
Following her graduation from college, Harris returned to California and subsequently became the mistress of the 60-year-old married Speaker of the California Assembly, Willie Brown, Jr. Brown’s political campaigns were supported and funded by Dr. Carlton Goodlett, the owner of The Sun Reporter and several other pro-Communist newspapers.  Brown was elected as Mayor of San Francisco, and strongly endorsed Harris’ Marxist political philosophy; he guided Harris' political rise in California politics, leading to her election as California’s Attorney General.
Willie Brown, Jr. was a well-known long-time Communist sympathizer.  Willie Brown, Jr. was initially elected to public office with the substantial help of the Communist Party USA. Today, Willie Brown is widely regarded as one of the Chinese Communist Party’s best friends in the San Francisco Bay Area.
While serving as San Francisco District Attorney, Kamala Harris mentored a young San Francisco Radical Maoist activist, Lateefah Simon, who was a member of the STORM Revolutionary Movement; Simon currently chairs the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Board.  Simon has always been close friends with the founder of Black Lives Matter Marxist Domestic Terrorists, Alicia Garza, as well as STORM member and avowed Communist, Van Jones.
Harris has been openly and aggressively supporting Black Lives Matter Marxists; Kamala Harris is still closely associated with Maoist Lateefah Simon and Marxist Alicia Garza.
Kamala Harris’s sister Maya Harris was a student activist at Stanford University.  She was a closely associated with Steve Phillips, one of the leading Marxist-Leninists on campus and a long-time affiliate with the League of Revolutionary Struggle, a pro-Chinese Communist group.
Phillips came out of the Left, and in college he studied Marx, Mao, and Lenin, and maintained close associations with fellow Communists. Phillips married into the multi billion dollar Sandler family of the Golden West Savings and Loan fortune.  He funded many leftist political campaigns, and the voter registration drives in the Southern and South Western states in order to help his friend, Barack Hussein Obama, defeat Hillary Clinton.  Phillips has been a major financial sponsor for Kamala Harris’s political campaigns for various California elective offices.
Harris' husband,  Doug Emhoff works for the law firm DLA Piper, which “boasts nearly 30 years of experience in Communist China with over 140 lawyers dedicated to its ‘Communist China Investment Services’ branch.  He was just appointed to Professor at Yale to school future lawyers in the fine points of Communism.
When she was elected to the US Senate, Kamala Harris appointed a Pro-Communist Senate Chief of Staff, Karine Jean-Pierre.  Jean-Pierre was active with the New York-based Haiti Support Network. The organization worked closely with the pro-Communist China/Communist North Korea Workers World Party and supported Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the far-left Communist former president of Haiti and the radical Lavalas movement.
Fortunately for Harris, but potentially disastrous for the Republic, elected office holders are not subject to the security clearance process.  If the FBI did a Background Investigation on Kamala Harris, she never would have passed, because of her 40-year close ties with Marxists, Communists, Maoists, and Communist China.  Harris would never have been approved for acceptance to any of the 5 Military Service Academies, been appointed to a US Government Sub-Cabinet position, or would have been approved to fill a sensitive position for a high security defense contractor.  Yet, since Joe Biden was elected, Harris could be a heartbeat away from being President.
The US constitutional Republic is being threatened by the People’s Republic of Communist China (PPC) externally, and by of their very active espionage operations within the United States. The People’s Republic of Communist China (PPC), with 1.4 billion people, is governed by the 90 million member Chinese Communist Party (CCP), that has been working with Russia to destroy the US Constitutional Republic for over 70 years.
The CCP operates a massive global intelligence network through its Ministry of State Security. The CCP operates a vast intelligence network in the U.S as well.  It is made up, not merely of intelligence operatives working for the Ministry of State Security, but it is also made up of a myriad of business and industry officials, Chinese scholar associations, and 370,000 Chinese students currently attending American universities.  It also operates the Confucius Institute indoctrination and intelligence gathering centers in the US on 67 University campuses and in seventeen K-12 Public School Districts.  The Confucius Centers are staffed by Communist Chinese intelligence operatives.  Refer to this.
Kamala Harris is now involved with the Biden Family Business, and is supporting Joe Biden, who has worked closely with Communist China for 12 years.  Joe’s son, Hunter Biden, is the point of contact for developing the off-shore Biden Family Businesses in Ukraine, Russia, Communist China, Iraq, Iran, etc. Hunter was provided with a $5 million non-recourse loan for the Biden Family Business to form a partnership with the PPC; that loan was subsequently forgiven by Communist China for one dollar.
Hunter Biden was given $1.5 billion for the Biden Family Business, to strategically purchase interests in companies in the US Military Industrial Complex, whose technologies would enhance and improve Communist China’s defense industry.  Hunter Biden was also instructed to try to take control of US companies involved in sourcing rare earth minerals in the United States. Hunter also received $3.5 Million from the wife of the Mayor of Moscow for some carefully hidden reason.
The Peoples Republic of Communist China has a military of two million men, including the world’s largest Navy. The United States does not have enough ships and munitions to defeat China’s Navy, absent the use of nuclear weapons. There is a famous book, Unrestricted Warfare, written in 1999 by two People’s Liberation Army colonels.  It argues that war between the PRC and the U.S. is inevitable, and that when it occurs China must be prepared to use whatever means are necessary to achieve victory Refer to this.
If the American voters read the background information (in Trevor Loudon’s article) on Kamala Harris, they would never support her election as Vice President of the United States.  Joe Biden is suffering from the early onset of dementia and will continue to decline in cerebral awareness; he will never be able to fill out a four-year term of office.  Since Biden was elected, the Socialists, Marxists, and Communist who control Kamala Harris, are planning to enact provisions of the 25th Amendment, in order to remove Joe Biden from office, so Harris can become the first Communist President of the United States.
Since Biden was elected, because Biden would not be up to it, Kamala Harris would lead the effort to appoint very dangerous anti-American Leftist, Communist, Socialists, and Marxists to fill highly sensitive positions in the Washington Deep State Bureaucracy.  She would fill all appointive positions in the US Intelligence Agencies, in the Department of Homeland Security, in the Department of Defense, in The Justice Department, the Department of State, the FBI, the CIA, most cabinet positions, the National Security Council, and in the White House Staff.
American voters must be alert their fellow Americans that Kamala Harris is a very serious National Security threat to the very survival of the US Constitutional Republic; she has been a fellow traveler of Marxists, Communists, Maoists, Socialists, Progressives, and Chinese Communists for over 35 years.
President Trump had much more background information on Kamala Harris than we presented here, and he was correct, when he accused Kamala Harris of being a Communist subverter.

The 10 Best Villains From The Die Hard Franchise, Ranked
In Hollywood’s storied history with tenacious action heroes, there are few as beloved as Bruce Willis’ John McClane from the Die Hard franchise. And, as they say, what’s a hero without their villain?
The Die Hard movies have delivered some of the most stand out bad guys in cinematic history with its revolving door of highly-trained thieves who run into the beleaguered cop. McClane is consistently accused of being ‘the guy in the wrong place at the wrong time’ but things always seem to go much more wrong for the villains who cross him.
These are our picks for the ten best villains from the Die Hard franchise so far.
10 Major Grant
Tumblr media
Major Grant is the commander of a Special Forces anti-terrorism squad who appears some time into the events of the crisis at Dulles Airport in Die Hard 2: Die Harder. It initially seems as if the Major and his men are there to resolve the situation but McClane soon discovers that Major Grant has been working with his contemporary, the antagonist Colonel William Stuart, to accomplish his goals.
RELATED: Marvel: 10 Movies to Watch Featuring Your Favorite Villains
Major Grant is a memorable character because of actor John Amos' commanding performance but also because of his death, where he fights McClane on the wing of a plane that's taking off before being sucked into one of the engines.
9 Johnson and Johnson
Tumblr media
The two FBI agents, similar to Major Grant in Die Hard 2, appear some ways into the initial hostage situation at Nakatomi Plaza in Die Hard. However, they are not revealed to be in league with the movie’s main antagonist and his goals (though they do end up helping him through incompetence). They are still, by no means, heroic characters and end up being a dangerous force working against John McClane.
After expressing a lack of concern for the safety of the hostages with a dangerous plan, they fly into the situation on the roof of the building with guns blazing. After one of the Johnsons attempts to kill McClane in the confusion, the terrorists detonate the explosives on the roof, killing the agents and resulting in McClane’s iconic leap from the top of the building.
8 Mai Linh
Tumblr media
The right-hand woman of the main antagonist in Live Free or Die Hard (A.K.A. Die Hard 4.0), Mai Linh is a mysterious character played by Maggie Q. Clearly ruthless and highly trained in hand-to-hand combat, she’s a formidable opponent.
RELATED: 20 Little Details Behind The Making Of Die Hard
Like many Die Hard villains, her most memorable moments come out of her death. In a great example of the fourth movie’s ability to effectively scale its action scenes up and up until they reach a point where the audience never expected them to go, Mai Linh dies in a close-quarters fight with McClane inside an SUV which, itself, is stuck halfway down an elevator shaft.
7 Theo
Tumblr media
The so-called ‘Tech Guy’ of the original Die Hard’s group of supervillainous thieves. Theo is such a minor character in the overall scheme of things that he could easily have fallen into total obscurity if it wasn’t for actor Clarence Gilyard’s exuberant performance.
Perhaps best remembered for his reaction to a large explosion with “Oh my God! The quarterback is toast!” Theo became one of the most memorable parts of Die Hard as a result and his character still echoes today in Die Hard-Esque siege movies that require a computer whiz.
Considering that he’s the only member of the group of thieves to survive the events of the movie, it’s a shame that audiences never got to see him again.
6 Katya
Tumblr media
Played by singer/songwriter Sam Phillips in Die Hard with a Vengeance, Katya is, ironically, a mute character but a hugely iconic part of the movie thanks to her deadly looks alone. She’s a fearless soldier and the second-in-command to the movie’s main villain.
RELATED: 10 Gifts For Fans Of Die Hard
With her oval 90s shades and a cigarette dangling carelessly from her mouth, she’s an unforgettably cool villain that saunters through the most dangerous situations in the movie. She’s perhaps best remembered, though, for her curved, claw-like, dagger and her vicious use of it.
5 Karl Vreski
Tumblr media
Played by former Bolshoi Ballet dancer Alexander Gudonov, Karl Vreski is the most memorable of all of the original Die Hard’s henchmen. When his brother, Anthony, is killed by McClane relatively early on in the movie, and McClane uses his body to taunt the other thieves with the famous words “Now I have a machine gun Ho-Ho-Ho” written on it, Karl becomes determined to personally kill McClane as painfully as possible.
After being successfully defeated, and left hanging by the neck by McClane, Karl suddenly springs back to life as his body is being taken out of the building. Before he can shoot McClane, however, he’s taken out by police officer Al Powell, having rediscovered his mojo.
4 Thomas Gabriel
Tumblr media
The main villain of Live Free or Die Hard, Thomas Gabriel is a former analyst from the Department of Defense who, as villains in such action movies often are, was fired for attempting to reveal the country’s electronic vulnerabilities in a misguided fashion. His revenge against the government takes the form of a ‘fire sale’, which uses cyberterrorism methods to shut down the United States’ infrastructure.

Though he spends the majority of the movie in his mobile command center attached to an 18-wheeler - kept constantly moving throughout Washington, D.C. so as to avoid detection - he’s no pushover in his final confrontation with McClane. Forcing McClane to shoot him through his own shoulder as Gabriel holds him hostage and tortures him by pressing the barrel of the gun into an open wound.
3 Colonel William Stuart

Perhaps best remembered for his mesmerizing naked martial arts routine at the beginning of the movie, Colonel William Stuart is the leader of a group of military conspirators in Die Hard 2: Die Harder who seek to free an imprisoned dictator from screenwriter Steven E. de Souza’s fictional South American country, Val Verde.
Stuart engages McClane in a hand-to-hand fight on the wing of a plane as it takes off, just after McClane kills Major Grant. He’s able to defeat the comparatively-schlubby, and severely beat up, McClane with ease and throws him from the wing but not before McClane is able to open the wing’s fuel hatch. Down on the runway, McClane is able to light the spilled fuel and blows up the plane with Stuart onboard.
2 Simon Gruber

The brother of the main antagonist of the original Die Hard, Simon Gruber is as equally cunning, and equally intoxicated by his love of his own villainy, as his sibling. His taunting games of “Simon Says” over the phone echoing the same back-and-forths that McClane has in the first movie.

Simon is played to perfection by 90s villain icon Jeremy Irons and he comes off as the only actor really capable of living up to the original Gruber brother in any way. He’s ultimately dispatched in an explosive helicopter crash but an alternate ending sees him die in a much more bizarre incident involving a game of pseudo-Russian roulette with rocket launchers.
1 Hans Gruber
Tumblr media
The one and only. Hans Gruber is arguably the best bad guy to ever grace the silver screen and, while he’s as well-written as the rest of the movie, the lion’s share of the credit has to go to the incomparable Alan Rickman for his performance; which was his very first credited screen role.
Delightfully devious and infinitely quotable, Hans Gruber is a byword for the kind of villain who audiences often root for against the hero. Initially masquerading as a terrorist with political goals, Hans, like his brother, is really just in it for the money. His apparent vanity and dissatisfaction with those who he deems less intelligent than himself (which is just about everyone) allows him to come off almost like a Disney villain. A thread that Irons continues with relative ease in Die Hard with a Vengeance.
