I used to want to have pet snails before I joined the pet snail group but the pet snail group is constantly like “oh no my snail is dying a painful death via. crushed mantle” or “oh no my snail reproduced and now I have to crush the hundreds of baby snails with a brick” or “oh no my snail has nematodes (roundworms) coming out of his shell what do I do” and the other snail owners are like “just leave them they’re not harmful they’re cleaning out the shell :)”

A City For Tomorrow
I met him the day I met C.S. Lewis, 6 years ago. The Narnia books were splayed out in front of me, six of them, the last in my lap, opened up to the image of a great lion. I was in the back aisle of the library, hidden from a class of 7th-grade history students who were here to learn about what a library was, a common Friday excursion.
I read the text beneath the lion: ‘Oh, you’re real, you’re real! Oh, Aslan!’, as someone leaned over me and cried, “Woah, is that a lion?!”
I startled and peered up at this boy whose smile was so bright and big that it lit up his eyes and even made his hair stand up.
“You know I saw a lion once?” He moved my books, as if to make space for himself, then put them back and bounced around. He would’ve cartwheeled, had he had space, I felt sure.
“Lions don’t exist,” I spoke softly, and he bent over slightly to catch my words.
He ended up sprawled on the floor, left hand idly resting on Prince Caspian. “I know! It was a stuffed one, in the Museum. It was so big! And it moved! And it roared! It sounded like –”
Even lying still, he seemed to take up so much space in the little aisle that I had claimed as my own. It was claustrophobic, and yet, comfortable. As he drew in breath to echo the great roar of the lion, I slapped my palm over his mouth. This was still a library, even if the respectful, studious silence that used to fill these spaces in my yeye and his yeye’s time was no more.
The boy squeaked, lurched back, narrowly avoiding a collision with The Magician’s Nephew. He made a big show of wiping his mouth, coughing and hissing.
Yeye peered around the corner, cane in hand. “Xiao-houzi? Everything alright?”
Xiao-houzi, his nickname for me, his little monkey. I was born in the year of the monkey, and he often told me I was like one. Small, smart, cheeky. Loved peaches.
“Mm. Reading.” I held my book up so he could see.
He smiled. “And this young gentleman?”
The young gentleman in question sprang to his feet. “Mr. Chen! I was talking about lions! You know I saw one, a big one, in the Museum, and it roared!”
My yeye considered this. “Chelsea, would you like to go?”
“Mm. Yes, yeye, please.” He nodded, and rounded the corner, explaining to someone else the use of a library card.
The boy looked at me. “Chelsea? That’s a cool name! My name’s Alan!”
And with that, he was gone, only to return the next day, a quiet Saturday. My yeye was dusting the shelves, a slow process as always, since he spent most of the time reading. I was still reading the same book as the day before, the words running into each other, colliding, so much so that I could not make sense of them. This had never happened before.
A large book hit the ground in front of me, a chimpanzee and the word ‘ANIMALS’ emblazoned on the cover.
“Hi!” It was Alan. I could not help the vague feeling of my space being, once again, invaded. Unknowing of my internal struggles, he wriggled into comfort and started flipping through his book, chattering all the way.
“Here! Look!” He had found his page of lions. He pushed his book my way, and I put my own away, gentle, a finger running down the spine. We ended up sitting next to each other, book resting between us, and this was how yeye found us, an eternity later.
“Yeye! Kan, houzi!” I had found the page on monkeys and there were half a dozen staring through the page.
Yeye’s eyes twinkled. The next day, the three of us, yeye, Alan and I, were in the National Museum, to see the animals. It became a Sunday past-time for us, broken when nainai passed away two years ago, tentatively revived a few months after the funeral, but smaller. It became just Alan and me, yeye retreating into his sanctuary. The first time we went to Animal Kingdom without him, I burst into tears.
Alan gave me his hand for me to hold, his shoulder for me to cry into. I cried for what seemed like the whole afternoon. I even cried through our first kiss, but Alan laughs when he thinks about it, so it can’t have been that bad.
He holds me now, so far away from that time. So many things have changed, and continue to change. Even Animal Kingdom in the National Museum has changed – it’s smaller, with only the big animals, the ones that make little kids jump, the great lion, the silverback gorilla, the African elephant. My little monkeys are all gone.
Alan holds me tighter as I cry.
Two days later, I am standing next to him, in matching mourning blacks. Benji stands at the front, at the podium, wearing the whites of a new lab coat and the smile of a tired, tired man. Alan hollers his praises for his brother and several people have a good-natured chuckle at the refreshing exuberance of youth these days.
The woman next to Benji is the same government official who came to tell my yeye that the library would be closing. Her gaze is sharp, but she does not recognize me when it passes over me. A blessing, perhaps, especially since yeye is not here. One pitying stare and we’d both break, but Alan is here and nainai is not.
Benji taps the microphone. “Hello? Hello!”
A small pattering of laughter, and he grins, fuller, realer. “I’m Benji Hicks and I’m delighted to be here this fine morning to share with you our new Research Centre and Laboratory. This was, of course, the old library. With this opening, we symbolize two important chapters of our history. It is, of course, the end of the era of libraries, but as we close this door, we step towards the era of progress, of knowledge, of research, of discovery. And what a step!”
He gestures behind him. Look! White walls, white roof. It looks like every other building around. It looks hideous, unnatural.
“This – this is what we work for, what we have worked so hard for, what we will continue to work hard for – this is our future. This is the city of tomorrow. Please, come up, come in, mingle, and wonder at all we have achieved.”
Alan squeezes my hand as we walk in together. Our steps slow to a halt when we reach what was the back aisle of the library. I can still see it – warm mahogany, books on the carpet, a little girl cross-legged, a little boy starfished next to her. I blink and it’s a white bench, a white microscope on top.
This is what we’ve achieved?
What have we lost?

One Piece Chapter 1012 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
And finally we're back, freaking Golden Week ¬_¬
After yet another break we can kick on with One Piece, I won't lie, the two consecutive breaks have disrupted the flow a bit but it can certainly recover, so let's get into the fallout
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release
A Kid cover page was cool, but it was a fan request so it's not the Top 40 stuff yet
Back with the scabbards and we're now throwing death flags on Kiku and Izo, please don't Oda they only just reunited
Izo was coy about what would happen though, probably because he knows that either a Yonko or the World Government would swoop in immediately on it
Kin'emon going alone to find Momo, that's kinda a bad plan I think, even if Kiku wants to finish off Kanjuro - which she shouldn't, Kin'emon has a bone to pick with him now
Neko is just now finding out about Pedro, and that Perospero is here, so we might be getting a fight with a candyman, or at least a teamed fight given that I don't think Carrot is finished
Look at Yamato's adorable face with the tiny ass Momo decoy
This is where things get intense though, we've always been told 'if it's one on one, always bet on Kaido', I'm sure Yamato knows about all who tried too
And Momo's about to brush up on his father's adventure log
Back we are with Sanji, but now he's carrying a giant cross
Which is Zoro bandaged up Usopp-style!
Turns out that Law and Zoro teleported right above him, so Law ditched Zoro on him
20 to 30 bones? That's...a lot less than I thought actually...
Also Law you're a doctor couldn't you Op Op on him for a moment before running off and leaving Sanji to turn him into a mummy?
A tiny bit of begrudging respect from Sanji towards Zoro though
And they both agree that Luffy's gonna win, so who am I to doubt it?
HAHAHAHA he fell asleep XD cos he knows he's not in danger with Sanji there to guard him
If this doesn't end with Sanji using Zoro as a weapon it's a missed opportunity
they run into Kawamatsu and Izo, and it turns out Sanji was indeed going for Momo
Looks like we're all going back to the main floor, it is where King and Queen are after all
Back to Big Mom and yup, Pay-Pay is done
Oooh a little panel error there, Ulti has no mask!
Well, you can't fault Nami for trying to manipulate either side, and at least we prove that Big Mom is mainly on her own side
Komachiyo tries to run but then Ulti just destroys the big doggo
Oh no, Ulti...I was a bit of a fan but you lay a hand on Tama and now it's curtains for you, shame...
And I'm not the only one who thinks that, you've incurred the wrath of Big Mom - though Ulti does clap back that BM did the same thing to her Pay-Pay
But then Nami comes back into the fray, now she's gonna properly stand her ground and fight
Okay so we've got some more battle lines drawn it seems. Nami vs Ulti II (with potential assistance from Big Mom) could lead to Nami getting back Zeus into the fight, though you do have to wonder how Big Mom will act towards her enemies protecting her friend. We also hint at Nekomamushi vs Perospero, which may balance due to Neko's injuries but I still feel like Carrot needs to get involved on that. Yamato leaving Momo and Shinobu is a risk though, I feel like Kanjuro's definitely gonna pull a fake Kin'emon to draw him out - Terminator 2 style probably - and Kiku may not get the finishing blow she wants.
The rest seems setting up for the main hall, which is where the other two doctors are so Zoro might get to heal up a little more there, but it is getting crowded with good guys given that we already have Chopper, Marco and Drake down there against King, Queen and Apoo, so I feel like someone else may have to come down. I can see Sanji fighting a disaster - likely Queen but he could rematch King - but then you have to wonder what will Izo and Kawamatsu do? Same can be said for Usopp he needs his W too
Law has also gone walkabouts, guessing he's gonna check on his crew or chase Big Mom either of the two. But between that there's still the Black Maria fight (and whatever Brook will do), Sasaki fight, Jack fight, Hawkins fight and Who's Who fight. Not to mention whatever Orochi is doing when he inevitably comes back, and do we expect CP0 to just sit there? Probably not
Good chapter, didn't say no break but I'm expecting none either, we'll see how this builds

Meet the Other Social Influencers of the Animal Kingdom
Meet the Other Social Influencers of the Animal Kingdom
Culture, once considered exclusive to humans, turns out to be widespread in nature. Julia, her friends and family agreed, had style. When, out of the blue, the 18-year-old chimpanzee began inserting long, stiff blades of grass into one or both ears and then went about her day with her new statement accessories clearly visible to the world, the other chimpanzees at the Chimfunshi wildlife…

INDIA
WHERE: Sanaa (3701 W Osceola Pkwy, Kissimmee, FL 34747)
I first ate Indian food many years ago in a restaurant on Long Island with a few friends of mine. I remember falling in love with naan, the warm flatbread that is perfect for dipping, back then. One of my friends ended up asking the waitress many questions about the colorful murals on the walls and I was embarrassed because I felt it was too intrusive to ask about her home country (my, have things changed since then! My questions are quite often plentiful when I hear an accent... and most do love to talk about their homes), but other than that not much of the memory exists now but I've been a fan of naan ever since.
I also had an Indian friend around the late 2010s who was from Indian and would tell me which restaurants in Raleigh, North Carolina were good for Indian food and which were the most authentic, but the most authentic was definitely her homecooking in her apartment. She was an international student originally from India, so I think it was her way of dealing with her homesickness a bit.
But I think my absolutely favorite memory of Indian food was hilarious trying to order African food at Sanaa in the Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort. I totally thought the bread service plate was African, even after eating it. It came with paneer paratha, onion kulcha, three different types of naan and a bunch of dipping sauces like several chutneys, tomato-date jam, hummus, red chile sambal, garlic pickle, spicy jalapeno-line pickle. When I bought it I totally missed that it was an INDIAN-style bread service in the African lodge and I was walking around thinking I was so worldly. Only years later when I was looking through my old photos did I notice that it wasn't African at all. Nowadays, I definitely research a bit better than this. My, how far I’ve come on my journeys! lol
Tumblr media
But I'll have to at least say it was a delicious meal, right there up at the counter because all the tables were taken that night, watching the chef cook dinner for everyone because it was an open kitchen after a long day of walking around Disney, getting to rest my feet and nom on bread and dippings for a while. Definitely good times! Disney always makes the best food :)

I put down my phone. Your words still echoing in my ears.
You shouldn't have told me this. You knew very well what that does to me and you knew very well that my hand was gliding down my sleeping T, across my belly and sweeping underneath my shorts, where my heat was burning. I felt myself wet to the touch, panties soaked and folds glistening with slick.
It would've felt embarrassing, if it wasn't for you.
I hated you for uttering those words, for letting me know that you touch yourself, thinking about me.
But here I am, doing the same.
And somehow this makes me feel close to you again. We both know that we just shouldn't be, but still we are trying so bad.
My fingers were painted in my juices as they found my weak spot, circling gently.
The pleasure hurt. I knew that it would.
I bit my lip, thinking of you, sex-drunk calling out my name, telling me how good I felt.
Your voice was fuelling my dirty deed even more.
I knew how you sounded, buried deep inside of me: vulnerable, soft to the touch and submissive, even tho you don't like to hear that.
With every circle of my finger I felt, heard and saw you.
It was heaven and hell at the same time.
I needed, deserved this hell, but I am striving for our haven at the same time.
I panted, swallowed moans.
No, we aren't supposed to be.
But as I broke, I still thought of you. I came, silently screaming your name.
You are my drug and I'm a terrible part-time drug addict.
