zelos. i think she'd be ashamed of how easy it is to pick that but it'd 100% be zelos. kai, as a close second, but the immediate answer, the first impulse, would be to pick zelos.

her eldest brother was her favorite brother. he was the one she was closest to. and after they all died and now that she's grown zelos is still the one she thinks would forgive her and love her despite what she's become. if any of them would understand, it'd be her big brother. and she'd give so much to be able to feel that sense of comfort and security, that this person loves her as she was and as she is and no matter what she may become.

i do think the first thing she'd try to say would be an apology. she feels she dishonors her family with the path she chose but she also craves reassurance from them, reassurance she'd not have another opportunity to have. beyond that, i think she'd just want the longest possible hug and to know her family is well wherever they are and idk answer anything zelos may want to know and tell him about the people she cares for and who looked after her and who she loves. the big stuff doesn't matter; it'd be the little things. how she misses him and the others and doing the most trivial stuff together or how she always thinks of him when doing something he liked doing and how she'd do almost anything to have him and the rest of their family back.

irelia is very emotional. she's guided by emotion more so than logic and i don't think she'd even bother trying to plan what to say, if she had the opportunity. it'd be whatever her heart longed to speak of, so i feel her sorrow and grief and guilt would definitely make themselves manifest, but so would her love and how much she misses her family. and she is just. too attached to them all for it to be a goodbye, really. she'd still not be ready to let go; i don't think she knows how to let go of anyone she lets in her heart tbh. a piece of her will always hold on to them, although she would appreciate the chance to see her brother one last time.

Have a big reveal scene in them, like the golden core transfer, someone being sick, or wangxians relationship being revealed anything like that I just want to see a scene where it's like "and everyone gasped or was shocked" it can be long or short i just really want some drama, and B. Where they're dealing with an argument, like at a conference and everything is just wild, again just want that drama.

Looking back on 2023, I think one fic I'm really proud of writing is this one, a multichapter Symphonia fic I was able to complete, with a focus on Lloyd and his wings taking on a different transformation. It's seven chapters of Lloyd and Colette dealing with the painful and difficult changes, but also the rest of the party helping them on this new shift in their journey. Since this year for Colloyd Week was going to be its 5th year running, and it was also Symphonia's 20th anniversary, me and @frayed-symphony wanted to do something a bit more special with the prompts this time. We decided to bring back some prompts from previous weeks while still using a new quote day and the usual free day. (Here's the prompt list with her art which everyone should see) With that in mind, I also wanted to do something a bit different for myself writing-wise, and tell a story over the course of each of the prompts!

The tidbit about mana wings eventually becoming more feathered versions is actually a bit of lore taken from the Kratos novel. Essentially, if an angel uses it for too long, the wings will become a permanent part of the body, the mana solidifying into feathers. That's why we see a lot of angels in Welgaia floating about with feathered wings, and explains why Kratos, Yuan and Mithos don't keep theirs out consistently. And the reason for the title, it's from the Lloyd's Thoughts on Angels skit because I thought it would be fun to make all those angelic issues relevant for this fic.

I really wanted to use this bit of canon lore for Lloyd, and whether it's an effect of his unique Exsphere, or anything else, his wings succumb to the same transformation. But, well, it's more than just the wings changing here.

I also wanted to play more with Lloyd's self-consciousness here and the guilt he probably still carries with him when he failed to notice Colette suffering in time. Lloyd is also the unifying force for the party where he helps inspire and lift them up from each member's own troubles, but I also wanted to see this reversed while Lloyd is going through his own baggage and past traumas. It was also more interesting to write about Lloyd going through physical changes the way Colette did in the game and have that comfort role-reversed.

A lot of this fic was a learning process! The wings in Symphonia are just a favorite aesthetic for me, and learning about how they can change was really intriguing, so much of this fic centered around the Wings prompt. I was also planning on having everyone play a part with the Soulmates prompt, which I felt was fitting for Symphonia's anniversary year. Much of the later half of the story came as it went, like with the focus on Dirk, and the very last chapter that's a few years in the future, where Lloyd has a better handle on who he is now.

Change itself is also something I just wanted to focus on overall; how we change as people, or how our loved ones change over time. And sometimes change is frightening, but it can also be exciting and learning to accept and welcome it can also feel rewarding in the end. I think I wanted to show that in this fic, though how well I succeeded kinda depends on the reading, and maybe I was heavy-handed with the wings metaphor haha.

But also, I just wanted to write a longer cute ship fic of my OTP. That's another reason. :D

Compared to most chaptered fics, this isn't very long, but I like that it's contained enough at just over 36k. I still have other Symphonia WIPs I want to finish, but I'm really proud of completing this one, and a big thank you to those who've read and commented on this fic! Symphonia has always been special to me and I'm glad I could celebrate both the game and my favorite ship this way.

ok so imagine. you are in ninth grade and you are a lesbian but your favourite game's fandom is a) old and dying and b) oversaturated by a particular m/m ship (not shading because you KNOW i love that ship lmao). these days i'm pretty meh about them, but as of the last time i replayed symphonia, i actually found their sylvarant arc interactions in particular really cute! clumsy idiot x clumsy idiot <3 but colette also just...tries really hard to make sheena see all the good in her world and it leads to some really lovely conversations. sheena has such a strong loyalty to her late-game that seems to stem from this and i do like the dynamic!

what are your favorite things about the ship?

is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

it's kind of overrated in the sense that like...it feels like a large number of people ship it just so that they can pair off the typical het love interests for lloyd and zelos together and put them in the background. many such cases with f/f ships sadly </3

actually i'm pretty obsessed with the way that gladion seems to mostly care about ash via lillie in the sense of like, ash seems capable so he's like ok you can be her acting older brother now <3 meanwhile ash is just like battle me battle me battle me :pleading: :pleading: :pleading: it's just....a hilarious dynamic. but it has the side effect of ash in a way helping gladion realign his values with respect to Family, which i like! would love to like. put them under a microscopic post-sm after lei is born and ash suddenly has something to relate to gladion about (because i don't think he ever really sees lillie as a sister, per se)

honestly not really? weirdly not a very popular ship, so i guess i've just never seen enough of what people have to say to know what the popular opinions could be lol

So lately I have been having

about Tales of Symphonia

A while back I was jokin in the tags of a post about how I’m playing ToS for the IDK 5th time or something when I still haven’t played Arise. 

But dammit GODDAMMIT there is a reason for that I KNEW there was 

Tales of Symphonia immediately became my favorite game upon release for the Gamecube and stayed that way for a long time. Well. Most of the time. Because sometimes, I forget. I have played a lot of Tales games and a lot of them (Abyss, Xillia, Zestiria...) have had a pretty huge impact on me on release. So, I do forget. But when I pick up Symphonia again, I remember. 

The affection system just changes EVERYTHING! I am continuously in awe, even all these years later, about how many little things it effects. It changes the dialogue, it changes where characters STAND in certain scenes, and like... they put so much effort into it that they must have burned themselves out because they never did it again in another Tales game! Yeah, I don’t know anything about Arise, but as far as I know, they never even came close! GAH! 

So it’s been years but I vaguely remembered that when Sheena joins your party has to do with the path you take. So I tried to get her early but I ended up screwing up (because I couldn’t find Hima) so I went back to the normal path but I still didn’t know how to find her again and felt like I was wandering the map forever like SHEENA SHEEEEEEEENAAAAAAAAAAA where are you ( ._.)

I didn’t want to check a walkthrough but finally I did after she joined after curiosity, and I found that the point where she joins you if she likes you is actually the more common outcome. She can join you even later than I thought if she doesn’t like you BUT that’s actually the least common outcome because basically you have to be mean to her in order to get that. And nobody wants to be mean to Sheena because I CANNOT find a playthrough where that happens!!! I’m curious! I wanna see it! ...But I don’t wanna be mean to Sheena ( ToT) If anyone knows of a video where Sheena joins during the Asgrad Ranch let me knowwwww....

(Edit: I finally found one.  Dad’s Freetime Classic Gaming hates Sheena apparently, thank you for that hahah.)

Speaking of being mean to characters, the game begins in a way that it’s somewhat harder to get the characters who join your party later in the game to like you the best. Well, you can, but you have to be sorta mean to the characters early in the game. Especially Colette. 

Now. Younger me, aka the Zelloyd shipper, had absolutely no problem with this. Zelos was her favorite character. Screw Colette with her perfect blonde hair and her sparkly angel wings who does she think she is. Zelos was my type. I mean, yeah he’s broken but I CAN FIX HIM.

3.) What is the most amount of research you’ve done for the smallest detail? What was the detail and how much time/effort went into researching it?

I've put time into researching the different types of power of attorney for a few different fics, though I put the most time into it for Hello Hadley. I also put quite some time into finding out the requirements for getting a PI's license for Anya only to decide that she was just gonna circumvent the system.

I don't really know how much time I put into those, but definitely several hours of googling stuff and deciding how much of it would actually go into the fic.

6.) What is your favorite type of feedback to receive (favorites/kudos, comments, DMs, complete and utter silence in the pursuit of remaining unperceived?)? If comments or DMs or anything else involving a reader writing, do you have a particular type of feedback that excites you more than other types?

Comments definitely, though kudos are a close second.

I especially love getting comments that mention the commentor's favorite part (or parts) of the fic. Rambling comments because they enjoyed it so much. But honestly, I know how anxiety-inducing it can be to leave a comment sometimes, so I'm excited for any type of comment I receive. I get ridiculously happy for them, even if sometimes it takes me a while to respond.

(That morning kudos email, though... I get one of those and it makes me smile all morning.)

8.) Is there a story idea you have that you would love if it could appear fully realized but that you do not think you’ll ever write yourself?

In high school I started a Tales of Symphonia fanfic where Zelos was much more deeply embedded in the Renegades. I wrote some side stories for it and I'd desperately love to finally write it all out, but... I have not made any progress on it since college. It would have covered from Zelos as a pre-teen, meeting Yuan because he ran away from the Tower of Salvation, hoping the angels would kill him so his sister could be the Chosen. Though her being half-elven and half of the wrong lineage, she's not actually second in line to be Chosen. (He had a very difficult childhood.) He's lucky that the angel who finds him is Yuan, who takes him to the Renegade Base and convinces Zelos that what would help his sister more is to topple the system that destroyed their parents lives.

Zelos goes back to his life of the Chosen, but with a new resolve. As the Chosen of the flourishing world, he's considered for candidacy for the real organization of Cruxis and Yuan makes sure he gets in. So in one part of Zelos' life, he's traveling to Dherris Kharlan regularly to see if he gets his wings and a permanent place in Cruxis, in the other he's sixteen now and politically active, trying to make Tethe'alla a better place for half elves with the support of the elder of the two princesses, who just so happens to also be the person the Church has arranged for Zelos to marry to carry on the Chosen bloodline. They're genuinely in love - something Zelos' parents very much didn't get - but of course tragedy strikes when they're eighteen and the pope has the princess assassinated. The attempt was intended to take out Zelos too, but... it fails. His best friend from Cruxis makes sure Zelos doesn't do anything stupid and winds up recruited into the Renegades as a result.

Zelos doesn't stop trying to help half elves, but takes his support into the shadows, perfecting the public persona he has in the game while teaming up in the background with his sister's aunt who runs a loose organization for helping at risk half elves escape. The problem is, of course, that her being his sister's aunt also means that she's the sister of the woman who murdered Zelos' mother - who was aiming to murder Zelos and missed. They do wind up becoming close friends because she very much disagrees with her sister's choices, but it takes time for them to learn to really trust each other.

By the time Zelos enters the events of the game, he's already neck deep both in overthrowing Cruxis with the Renegades and trying to overthrow the pope more locally so that he no longer has to worry about Seles being used against him if he became more politically active again. Openly politically active, anyway. So he still plays the triple agent he did in canon, but he's a bit at odds with Yuan over the Renegades backing the attempted assassination of the Sylvarantian Chosen - he's the Chosen too, he's not going to be okay with just killing that girl.

Meanwhile it would have filled out the backstory of the Renegades and established a number of OCs to build up the organization's leadership beyond just Yuan and Botta. And done the same for Cruxis, demonstrating that a lot of the angels aren't necessarily bad people. They've led difficult lives and suffered under prejudice so heavily that when offered a way out... it's no wonder they took it, even if it meant in some cases compromising their morals.

It would have gone post canon too, including a reinterpretation of the sequel, but... yeah, I was waaaay too ambitious with this at a time when I did not know my own limits as a writer.

10.) If you could banish a single trope to live at the bottom of the ocean, never to be seen again by any human eyes (or at least your own), which trope would that be?

Hanahaki disease. While I've seen a few that aren't awful, it's a massively amatonormative trope and I find it way worse than soulmates in that regard. It has such a feeling of 'blaming the object of desire'... or shaming them into requiting feelings. The whole thing just kinda creeps me out. And not even the versions where there's 'surgery' to cut the feelings out, as it were, make it better. I don't know, it just seems worse? Like this character has to undergo surgery to keep from basically killing yourself with flowers? All because they can't deal with unrequited feelings? I just... flowers are such beautiful things to me, but there's something very ugly and entitled about this trope.

11.) Conversely, if you had to pick a single trope to read for the next seven-and-half years, which trope would that be?

Enemies/rivals to lovers. I really enjoy the dynamic of two people who think they hate each other discovering they actually love everything about one another. I like it better than friends to lovers because so often it kinda treats the friendship like it was never more than a stepping stone to the romance, which just annoys me. Enemies/rivals to lovers though? It's gonna have that belligerent UST I enjoy so much. Hartmon, Coldflash, Coldwest, etc... definitely a lot of fics out there that capitalize on that trope.

He throws open the doors to the Receiving Hall without announcement and bows nearly double, eyes on the floor instead of on the shocked faces of the Mei delegation and the impenetrable gaze of the Chief Cultivator.

"Forgive this disciple," Jingyi shouts, because he's going to get punished for rule breaking regardless. "From the back hill, Hanguang-jun, there is a song in the wind!"

Tales of Symphonia!!

Favourite character: Sheena. I love her a lot. Ninja from another world sent to assassinate The Chosen One, dooming that world to save her own? Except she gets to the other world and sees how its people are suffering and they become important to her too so she joins the party and tries to save both worlds?? She made a huge mistake that got many people she knows killed but when people need her to go back to that place and try to do it again she says yes??? sign me up. shes just fundamentally good and i love her.

Funniest character: Man I love this game but very few of the attempts at comedy land. I'll give Presea points for consistently making Zelos look like the fool he is though

Best-looking character: Sheena again. <3

3 favourite friendships (i dont care much for any romantic ships here lol): Colette and Sheena, Lloyd and Genis, Lloyd and Colette.

Least favourite character: Zelos. Part of the one percent? Fantasy racism? Sexism? he can do it all. and on top of that hes a fan favourite and that makes me more annoyed that he exists

Least favourite ship: Zelos/Sheena. he's an asshole and pisses her off and i think its supposed to be endearing but. i fucking hate Zelos and it just really isnt.

Reason why I watch it: Fun game (though itd be more fun if my sister's switch worked better), i like Tales, i really like Sheena and Colette, i havent seen much of Presea but she's interesting, Lloyd and Genis have grown on me.

Why I started watching it: I fucking love the Tales series its got my favorite combat system of any game ever the music is pretty good and the stories are always engaging. I stopped by the video game store the other day and it was a choice between this and Tales of Arise which i haven't heard anything about and therefore dont trust.

irelia being particularly fond of a certain type of flower because zelos somehow always convinced the plants to give the flowers to him and he gifted them to his little sister in turn. irelia being particularly at peace amidst the forest because its sounds remind her of kai trying to teach her to track things and how unserious they both got after just a few minutes. irelia associating the scent of ink and parchment to something comforting because ohn was always writing and it makes her think of him. irelia being unable to listen to certain songs without being overtaken by melancholy, no matter how joyous the tune, because it reminds her of when she'd dance while her brothers were singing or playing or just enjoying being around when they were all together (and the good memories hurt, too, because they make the absence worse).

some days are easy. some days, the wounds feel less raw. but it's always the little things that get her — the reminder of zelos' favorite song, or kai's favorite food, or ohn's favorite poem. even on the easier days, they're never really far from her mind. on the worst ones, well. they are the worst ones for a reason.

the first character i ever fell in love with: Raine. Even as a teenager she was my favorite and I loved her immediately.

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: I actually think I used to really like Zelos and found him hilarious when I was a teenager myself, and now I'm like 😨 about half of what he does and says. Yikes, bro. It actually makes me wonder how differently he would be written if the game was coming out for the first time now, because a lot of the stuff in the game just would NEVER fly these days.

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: Ah. Behold, my personal cringe: I used to ship Kratos/Raine. It didn't last very long because my fellow shippers in 2004 made me abandon ship entirely & do a heelturn toward my current OTP out of pure spite. If I'm being honest I was only shipping it because they were the only two adults in the party for a while, anyway, so it wasn't a serious attachment. 🙄 But like, it should be noted that this happened while I was in the middle of writing a love triangle fic. (My other personal cringe, shh.)

my ultimate favorite character™: RAINE, MY BELOVED. 🤍 I literally love every single thing about her.

prettiest character: You thought I was going to say Raine didn't you? WRONG. It's Yuan, actually. Look at him.

my most hated character: RODYLE. He's just so hateful.

my OTP: Regal/Raine. I will die on this hill, actually. (And have been quietly since late 2004.) This is the only ship I just won't compromise on. What can I say about it? Their dynamic just hits on a lot of notes that work exceedingly well for me personally. I won't write a manifesto here (you may thank me for holding back for your benefit) but I love both of them so much and think their personalities balance one another out incredibly well, which is a lot of fun to write.

my NOTP: Basically any Raine ship that isn't my OTP is a NOTP for me, though I do have two in particular I would consider NOTPs. IYKYK.

favorite episode skit: The My Sister skit. IT GETS ME EVERY TIME.

saddest death: Marble. SHE'S AN OLD WOMAN. PLEASE.

favorite season side plot/scene: Virginia, honestly. It messes me up every time. The doll haunts me to this day. Also, that they so INTENTIONALLY made Raine look exactly like her. Poor Raine just can't escape. And the trauma?? AHHHH.

least favorite season side plot/scene: That buffoonish Peeping Tom thing at the hot springs. I wanted more meaningful conversation with my girls and I had to deal with that instead. NO WAIT I HATE THE SCENE IN SYBAK LOOKING FOR THE LITTLE BOY'S MOM SO MUCH MORE. ZELOS'S BOOTSTRAPS SPEECH WAS THE WORST THING I HAVE EVER HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF READING, not because it wasn't 100% in character for him (HILARIOUSLY IT IS VERY IN CHARACTER 🤣) but because I feel like nobody else in the scene was written in a believable way—not Regal, not Colette, and not Lloyd. WTF WAS THAT SCENE?

character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate am lukewarm about: Hate is a strong word here so I toned it down. I feel very lukewarm about Kratos. In fact, I'd go so far as to say his potential was a bit wasted just because they didn't bother to do enough with him.

my ‘you’re a piece of trash, but you’re still a fave well-liked’ fave: This is a hard one, because the trash characters are still trash to me. I'll maybe go with Kate or George for this. They both did terrible things but I still find them interesting and compelling as characters.

my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Colette, always. Also? Presea.

my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: I don't have one because you'll never see me shipping something like this. It's not my cuppa.

my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: This is a hard one. Maybe Genis/Presea for this? I think they are good for one another but they're both too young BY A LOT to really be thinking that deeply about things. However, their respect for one another and their compassion/understanding of what the other has been through could lead to something nice later in life. I'm not over those adorable skits where Genis asks for advice from others on what present to get for her and they all collectively give him the worst advice imaginable and he ends up buying her a whetstone because he KNOWS HER AS A PERSON and she LOVES THE GIFT. This is what peak performance looks like in a person, actually.

CHAPTER 5: THE DARK WOLF THAT SMOLDERS (PART 2)

Hello, and welcome back to the next part of this chapter! This one discusses exactly what the Empire is doing that’s so heinous and introduces us to one of my favorite characters from this game: Mercuria (she doesn’t appear in this part, but she’s mentioned)

Jade: Well, let's resume our meeting.

Karia: Yes, sir... It's a continuation of the story. This is exposition is too difficult for me. It would be nice to be able to poof away or skip.

Kyle: Poof away? Skip?

Klarth: It gets even more serious from here. —Chester, I know this is hard for you, but tell us what you know.

Chester: Oh...You're talking about the Living Doll Project.

Chester: …It was Princess Mercuria, the only survivor of the Bifrost royal family, who initiated the project in the first place.

Mileena: ……….

Leon: Bifrost perished after losing to Selund in the Mirrage War, right?

Mileena: Yes... According to Gefion's memory, the Kaleidoscope helped the Selund win the war and Bifrost was conquered.

Chester: From what I've heard, Mercuria was brought to Selund as a hostage at the end of the war.

Chester: Demetrius was raising her. He became her surrogate parent.

Mileena: …Demetrius did that?

Chester: That’s what Mercuria said. The Salvation Army met Mercuria through Phantom.

Chester: At first they didn't know she was a Bifrost survivor, so they assumed she was the daughter of an anti-Gefionist nobleman.

Chester: Before we knew it, she had taken up with the Salvation Army.

Chester: The reason I was able to infiltrate the castle during the Mirrorshift was because of help from the Mercuria Faction.

Chester: At that stage, Mercuria looked like she was trying to cut off Phantom and join forces with Phillip.

Raine: Let me get this straight. Mercuria approached the Salvation Army as an associate of Phantom.

Raine: Then, for whatever reason, she decided to cut off Phantom, took control of the Salvation Army, and became involved in the 'Phantom Sealing Project.’

Chester: Yeah. After that, Mercuria and her guardian, Demetrius, started talking about bringing back the Empire and reviving the Bifrost.

Chester: They wanted to take members of the Salvation Army to use as Mercuria’s personal force.

Chester: That's when Philip and Mark fell out with the Empire. I guess after they left the empire, they started hanging out with Zelos and the others.

Chester: Alvin probably knows more about that than I do, but it sounds like he's talking to Senel right now.

Jude: Is it because of the Living Doll Project that Phillip and the others fell out with the Empire?

Chester: I don't know... Maybe so, or maybe for some other reason.

Chester: Either way, what we do know is that the Living Doll is a way for the—

Chester: All we know is that the Living Doll is a terrible thing, putting the soul of one person into the body of another. I have no idea why anyone would want to do such a thing...

Raine: …Thank you, Chester. That must have been difficult. I don't need to hear it anymore. Just be there for Ami.

Chester: …Yeah. I'm sorry I couldn’t be more help.

Jade: Ami is sedated and sleeping. She's stable now, but we haven't found a way to fix her yet.

Julius: To sum it up, we have three major problems.

Julius: One is rescuing of Ix, who is having an Overray Outburst. This is compounded by the problem of the Sandstorm of Death.

Julius: The second is the Living Doll Project. We need to find out why Princess Mercuria is doing this.

Julius: Of course, we'll have to find a cure for Ami as well.

Julius: Third, the Asgard Empire itself. They’re after Mileena and Ludgar, and they’ve captured Luka, Illia, and many others.

Julius: There is no doubt that they are trying to exploit the otherworldly anima of the nexuses.

Jade: So we, too, will try to solve the problem by dispersing our forces. —Guy, explain.

Guy: Did you ask me to come up here with you just so you could say that...? I guess it can't be helped...

Guy: First of all, we’ve decided to set up a dedicated department for gathering information. I'd like to ask Rose and Karol here to help us out.

Rose: Are you joining too!?

Karol: Eh, me too!?

Guy: I’m not, but Karol is going to take the lead on this. Karol’s going to be the chief of the Karol Investigation Division.

Karol: Chief!? Me!?

Guy: That’s what Professor Raine suggested. We all have to live up to her expectations.

Karol: …Heh…heheh. Well, well, if you say so, I have no choice but to accept it.

Rose: Hmmm, hmmm, that's good, isn't it? Raine decided, right? I think it's a good choice.

Rose: So the members so far are me, Dezel, and the members of Brave Vesperia?

Raine: I'm glad you're so quick to guess. I think you guys would be better suited to a guerilla type of force.

Jade: I'd like Chief Karol to gather all of our most eccentric people there and collect information.

Jade: Please fill in the necessary personnel accordingly. I’ll leave the selection to you.

Karol: That's a lot of responsibility... But leave it to me.

Julius: Keele Labs will gather knowledge from other worlds to build the means and organize the steps necessary to rescue Ix.

Julius: Those who can fight will proceed with the search and rescue of the stray nexuses.

Julius: However, Mileena, Ruca, Illia, Ludger, and Elle—

Klarth: You too, Julius.

Julius: —And me, too. Anyway, these people should avoid acting alone.

Raine: That's all for now. Thanks for your help, you all.

Mileena: Oh, um, do you have a minute?

Raine: Mileena, what's wrong?

Mileena: I need to have a quick word with you later. Also with...Jade. It's about...General Nazar.

Raine: …I see. Come to the strategy meeting room later.

It's hard to narrow it down but I did really love Lloyd when I first played! I love my dumb protagonists but he's also just such a good character with really good growth. I think after is Dirk because DWARF DAD and I always wanted to have more with him. We need more dwarves in media!

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not:

I guess the best answer here is Zelos lol. I think I used to like him plenty and found him funny but, well, a lot of that has tempered down over the years or maybe I just got very tired of seeing him as a focus in fandom and am bored of it. I played the remaster to remember his good points as a character and I came out of my replay loving Regal more oops.

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not:

Hm, nothing here really applies. When I first played I actually didn't have many ships at all, even Lloyd and Colette wasn't a full on ship for me! (But I did like them interacting a lot haha). All other ships I eventually liked I still like now.

my ultimate favorite character™:

It has to be said: it's Colette! I do switch back and forth with loving both her and Lloyd together as my pair of faves! But I think Colette ultimately wins out, especially as I've grown older. Much of her story and her struggles just hits for me in ways no other character's background really does in Symphonia. Also religious conflict/guilt of a character is also delicious to me when done well.

prettiest character:

Ohh there's a lot! So it's hard for me to pick. Ofc I think Colette is pretty but so is Lloyd, he's my pretty boy. :D But! I think after watching the OVA, I remember Regal looking so pretty in a way that his in-game model could never do. Regal it is. Also we love a beefy man who cooks, it ups that prettiness.

my most hated character:

Hmm, probably one of the Grand Cardinals, so maybe I'll go with Kvar! HE AWFUL. But fun to write though when I did that one time haha.

my OTP:

*falls on floor* if my blog title isn't obvious, colloyd is my ultimate of ships, the best of my otps. Lloyd and Colette together is food for my soul. I love every aspect of them and they have completely devoured me that I didn't even realize how much I was already shipping them until years later. I emphatically believe Symphonia is their story and about their relationship. The way they understand each other better than anyone, the way they're silly with each other, the way they just love each other?? They do love each other, that's canon. Platonic or romantic (but it's romantic in my eyes) and I am so invested in their dynamic and want to explore every possibility with them. I have apparently written half a million words about them help me.

my NOTP:

:) Sorry but I legit dislike Lloyd with the z-man lmao. I used to be indifferent (I just found it so boring) but now I'm honestly very uncomfortable with it (fandom hasn't helped). Oh well!

favorite episode scene:

I'm going with scene here and it's a tie between the coffee scene and the reveal of Colette's crystallization. Of course both have to do with Colette and how things keep being awful for her :') But I love the coffee scene for Lloyd and how he reaches to hold her, and also how Lloyd assures Colette is not disgusting at all when she has a breakdown of her reveal. Him walking to her to be NEAR HER even as she tries to hide away her sickness gets to me.

Another favorite is the ending: We got big trees, we got beautiful music, we got COLLOYD WINGS. This lives in my heart.

saddest death:

The closest is Corrine! I think what makes it sad more though is Sheena's reaction to it. Also just such a good performance of the voice actress too.

favorite season plot/arc:

Going with plots and arcs in the game, but I think from discovering Colette losing her humanity and seeing this play out throughout the Sylvarant arc of the game is so good and it does make you genuinely wonder what will happen. And when we get to the Tower of Salvation and fight Remiel and KRATOS. I was stoked playing through that when I was younger.

least favorite season plot/arc:

Hm, probably when we're doing the Tethe'alla temples and such. Pacing gets a little off and also with more characters we start to lose the focus on other people. I think it picks back up once the group focuses on curing Colette's sickness.

Lol hate is a strong word, I'm more just fatigued of him but heyyy it's Zelos! I am just uninterested. Also Kratos to a lesser extent, but oddly my opinion of him has actually raised a bit more over the years. So he's like, middle. gj, kratos.

Maybe Mithos? I like Mithos. This boy can fit so much messed up trauma and manipulation. Combined with the uncomfortable idolization of his sister to the point he no longer sees her as an actual person (if he ever did?). And the fact he can genuinely be creepy?? Still my fave Tales villain.

So fun fact, I started shipping Lloyd/Mithos a bit purely because of some jp fanartists, and now I'm very intrigued. (I own two doujins of them now haha). I think there can be so much fun interactions between them, and none of it would be good for Lloyd. But it's fun. One day I will write something with them and no one will have a good time.

I think this would be Kratos/Anna for me, and I've written several fics of them too. I get the appeal in a way, but ultimately Anna is a character with... no established character lol. Even Kratos barely ever talks about her as what she was like as an actual person? I know plenty of people love this ship and I've seen interesting things done with it, but my investment isn't much for them. I honestly mostly like this ship for the baby Lloyd fluff you'll get from it lol.

the first character i ever fell in love with: Raine, absolutely. I liked several characters before but Raine's just my first and all time love <3

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Probably Kratos. While I still don't hate him, I just don't care about him anymore.

my most hated character character I'm most meh about: I don't hate on characters, but I seriously don't care about Regal much. His story/character never really grabbed me.

my OTP: Zelaine (Zelos/Raine). I will go down with this nutshell of a ship. I've ranted to everyone who would listen about why I love it so much (their similar backstories resulting in totally different characters, their overall dynamic and my headcanon that Raine would be the only one who would be able to tame him long-term, the potential for so many dynamics), but I spare you the manifest lol. I've shipped this for 15 years and I'll continue to do so.

my NOTP: As long as the story is convincing, I'm okay with pretty much every ship. I'm mostly bored with the 'official' ships (Colloyd, Sheelos, Regal/Raine, Genis/Presea), so you won't see me make content for them aside from probably using them to get to a rarepair.

favorite episode skit: I think it's either "Nicknames" or "Better to be Deceived" <3 I like them both very much.

saddest death: While satisfying, I think Magnius is a very sad death. He was religiously following orders and backstabbed by someone he trusted.

favorite season scene: I LOVE the scene at Altamira where Zelos goes "Uh sorry? Can we talk about RAINE STILL FUCKING MISSING??" because it does show his character development very well (from being a racist PoS to actually caring about people. Also the fact he's the only one bringing her up)

least favorite season scene: Not actually a scene, but I absolutely hate we don't get a genuine interaction with Mithos/Raine. I've ranted a lot about how it's a HUGE missed opportunity since Raine is quite similar to Martel.
