The Mandalorian Season 3: Do We Need A Movie?
Tumblr media
(Yes, I know I'm late getting around to this. No, I haven't watched Ahsoka yet. I'm getting there, all right?)
I don't think Star Wars has quite the problems that the MCU does. We're not being drowned in a firehose of content that merely by the sheer amount of it degrades the quality of it-- no, Star Wars has a slightly different problem: it's in a galaxy far, far, away and can't stop showing us the same characters and/or planets.
Thankfully, Star Wars at least seems to be somewhat aware that it has this problem as a franchise and while they might not be taking too many concrete actual steps towards fixing the problem, shows like Andor and The Mandalorian at least suggest that they're trying to remedy that a little. They're trying to acknowledge that not every story needs to end on Tatooine and involve a member of the Skywalker Clan- they've got a whole galaxy to work with and they're at least thinking about how to do that. It's refreshing.
But, having watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian and heard the news that Season 4 is apparently going to be released as a movie, I'm left tilting my head slightly to the left, screwing up my eyebrows, and thinking: Do we need a movie?
Don't get me wrong: Season 3 of The Mandalorian has a lot going for it. First of all, the return to Mandalore itself was a really interesting choice for this show to make. There was really no other place for it to go, as Djarin needed to be redeemed for removing his helmet in violation of the creed of the Mandalore-- but returning to the ruins, him diving into the waters of Mandalore and then bringing back Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) to show her that surface was still habitable after all this time was a great choice.
If I have a weakness, it's probably for side characters that are far more interesting than the story intends them to be. (In House of the Dragon, for instance, you can keep Daemon, Rhaenyra, Otto Hightower, and Alicent-- Rhaenys (Eve Best) is the most interesting character in the show.) Here, that title is shared by Bo-Katan and to some degree by Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee.)
Bo-Katan is interesting because she's got an agenda. Whether she admits it or not, she wants Darksaber back so she can set about reclaiming her rightful place on the throne of Mandalore, restart the Great Forge, and reunite her people. The fact that Djarin just randomly ends up with the Darksaber (I mean, he does earn it by defeating Moff Gideon), makes her character a little... twitchy, in a way. She's kind of giving Djarin some side-eye, trying to figure out if she can take back the Darksaber and how and when he's pulled under in the waters of Mandalore, she does go and save him, but she also thinks about it for just a second. This was an aspect of this character that the show could have played with more-- there's a conflict within her over power and honor and she's reluctant to help Djarin, not believing that Mandalore is habitable again, but once she sees that it is-- it's game on. She also has to deal with her past (and the fact that surrendered to try and save her people when the Empire took them down) and that's another interesting thing we don't get to see. What happened on the Night of A Thousand Tears.
Carson Teva is back as the X-Wing pilot who is trying like heck to get the New Republic to actually do something for once. There's a whole-ass show centered around not just this character, but the New Republic of it all. How does the Rebellion go from rag-tag Rebel Alliance to an actual government? How come they're so effective at rehabilitating former Imperials but can't seem to protect systems from pirates? How come the New Republic still exists at the start of The Force Awakens, but there's also The Resistance as well? Like... how does it all work, post-Death Star?
(Also: what's up with The Armorer? Mysterious character. Suddenly is down with Helmets being removed? I'm... curious.)
There are a couple of standout moments for this season: the first is a delightfully unexpected detour to the planet Plazir-15 (Episode 6, 'Chapter 22: Guns For Hire') where Bo-Katan, Djarin, and Grogu go to get Bo-Katan's now mercenary army, the Axe Wolves back to go and retake Mandalore. They are currently in the employ of Captain Bombardier, the Duchess (played by Jack Black and Lizzo respectively), and the head of Planetary Security, Commissioner Helgait (Christopher Lloyd.) Three people I would never have expected to see in an episode of this show and it works. It's just delightful. It's fun. It's great.
The second moment comes courtesy of a vision Grogu has in Episode 4 ('Chapter 20: The Foundling') where he recalls his rescue from the burning Jedi Temple by sympathetic members of the Naboo Armed Forces and Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, who is played by Ahmed Best. Best, of course, is known for playing Jar-Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy and he has gotten an incredible amount of abuse and stick for it over the years. Whether this was a deliberate choice by the showrunners or just a happy accident, I don't know- and it definitely floated around my TikTok feed a lot when this first aired, but seeing this moment and seeing this actor get a shot at, if not redemption, then certainly a chance to be seen as someone else in the Star Wars franchise was fabulous. A+ work.
Here's where I'm at with this show: the ending is perfect. Gideon is defeated, and his Force-Sensitive clones are destroyed. While you can quibble about Djarin just giving the Darksaber to Bo-Katan, he does and she gets to restart the Great Forge and the Mandalorians get to be back on Mandalore. Djarin formally adopts Grogu, they take up Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) on his offer of a bit of land on the outskirts of Nevarro's capital and Djarin goes to Carson Teva looking for some more honest work while he raises Grogu.
So, let me ask the question again: Do we need a movie?
I mean, there are some aspects of the story we can still explore. Bo-Katan and getting Mandalore going, Imperial Shenanigans and whispers of Grand Admiral Thrawn, Carson Teva, and the struggles of the New Republic. I'm not disagreeing with the notion that there's more story here, I'm just saying- in terms of Djarin and Grogu: do we need a movie? This is perfect. You couldn't ask for a better ending to their story. That doesn't mean they can't show up again at some point, but man, this felt like the perfect bow to tie on top of this show.
I'm probably going to watch Season 4/The Movie or whatever it winds up being, never fear-- but sometimes it's okay for things to just end, you know. And I almost wish they'd just put this down and walk away for a bit.
Overall: It's great. The action scenes work. They don't get stuck on Tatooine or some other planet we've seen before- in fact, we get to go back to Mandalore! That's rad. It's got awesome moments for all the characters, a trio of excellent guest stars, and a nice moment for Ahmed Best tucked away in here. If it's got a fault, it's that it doesn't go as far as it could with some characters (I think Bo-Katan could have faced far more of a struggle over Djarin having the Darksaber, for instance) but I can't complain about the ending either. My Grade: *** out of ****

my thoughts on mando chapter 19
I'm not trying to be contrarian, and I'm definitely not defending Disney and Jon and Dave on their dumb decisions. but I think a lot of people really missed the point of this episode.
so the episode starts with Din and Bo leaving mandalore when they're attacked and Bo's castle is destroyed. the blind rage that Bo gets into against the tie fighters is her seeking revenge for what the empire did to her and her people. it's not Bo being stupid and reckless. she has suffered and loss so much at the hands of the empire, now even her home is gone. she wants revenge.
then we focus on pershin and him being introduced to the new republic. let me remind you all that pershin is a bad person. he's a eugenicist who worked for one of the worst moffs in the empire. this episode was not about his redemption. if you thought that he was trying to redeem himself, you're just as fooled as the new republic was.
pershin was a cloner. we see in the bad batch that the empire is trying to perfect cloning in the way the kaminoans did. (I haven't watched the new episode this week, so I don't know if that gives us any more info) so it's implied that his research was stolen from the kaminoans. and as we see in that one episode from season 2, it's also implied that his cloning tech is gonna be used to create snoke and the Palpatine clone.
I know we all hate "somehow Palpatine returned". this show is trying to expand on that, give an explanation. sure that won't fix the rise of skywalker, but it will sort of improve the overall lore of the universe. if you're looking at the overall story, it helps it feel connected. I understand that a lot of people don't care about that. and that's fine. you don't have to like the fact that most of this episode focuses on pershin. but I'm trying to explain why it focuses on him, not why you should like it.
anyway, we can see that Elia is pretending to be nice to pershin, all so that she can get him arrested. because, like Bo Katan, she wants revenge against the empire.
again, we aren't supposed to like pershin. just because he has anxiety and says "whoopsie, sorry for doing eugenics and genocide and illegal cloning. I was just following orders. pwease forgive me uwu" doesn't mean he's automatically a good person. a redemption like that doesn't just happen off screen. he's literally a space nazi. and the program his in is literally space operation paperclip.
the new republic is flawed. they're not outright evil. but they are trying to recreate the republic that was filled with corruption and shady practices, even without Palpatines influence. they're decommissioning both empire and rebel ships while there are still tie fighters causing chaos and shit. they're censoring any information and technology that would help them because it was used by the empire. the new republic is far far better than the empire. but they aren't perfect. and neither was the old republic. when it comes to government systems like this, there are no completely "good" sides. this episode was ment to show you how the new republic has issues. but if you actually think it's just as bad as the empire, you need to watch andor again.
anyway, we get back to Din and Bo arriving at the covert. they meet a bit of resistance from Paz, and I'm sure that will lead to something later. and then the armorer immediately forgives them both. reminder that she has stated multiple times that Bo Katan is a traitor and her rule directly led to the fall of mandalore. the armorer was probably part of mauls army of mandalorians, judging by her helmet shape. realistically, she has no reason at all to forgive Bo. but she does. and Bo is immediately accepted into the watch. not forced, but welcomed to stay and leave whenever she wants. yes, Bo is currently homeless, but she has other allies. fennec, Boba, Ursa wren. if she wants to leave the watch, she has other places to stay. so stop calling the children of the watch the "salvation army".
personally, I agree that this episode was less than stellar. the way that Din immediately completes his quest to be redeemed without even questioning why he's staying with the watch or what the point of redemption is. the fact that he finishes his quest in 3 episodes. and I'm not super enthralled by the majority of this episode focusing on pershin. I wish it would have cut back and forth like andor does all the time. and I am not one to judge people's opinions. you can think whatever the hell you want. I'm just a dumbass with a phone and a blog.

The Kyr Family!!! (aka i finally have specifics for g'ika's siblings (and parents))
I may not have their looks totally mapped out yet but i'm gonna work on that next, i think that's my main goal this weekend
I'll put it all under a cut, in order of oldest to youngest
Edit: okay after i started typing, the ideas just started flowing so I actually got kinda carried away. but thats okay bcs now theyre like, more shaped!
Asurge Kyr: Zabrak, blue skin, black facial markings and snake tattoos spirally both arms ending with the heads on the backs of their hands. 6 horns, 3 on each side going straight back connected by the facial markings. Super tall, stick thin, tends to slouch. Asurge was raised on Mandalore, was a deadly hitman, was feared across the galaxy until they very surprisingly retired and settled.
Pronouns They/He
Pops Kyr: Chiss, medium length curly hair, tall and fat. Covered in scars. Pops transitioned late in life, having lived his whole life as the wife of a abusive politician, had their child, then escaped with their child. Pops was reluctantly taken in by Asurge when they needed safe passage. Pops and Asurge fell in love while destroying Pop's ex's career and underground gambling network.
Prounous: He/Him
Bal: The Balancer. Biological child of Pops Kyr. Long dark straight hair, "picture perfect" Chiss heir. Tall. Bal was born deaf, uses Galatic Sign to communicate. Bal is stoic and serious, has a lot of trauma from seeing their Father commit atrocities. Bal immediately latched onto Asurge and looks up to them, following in their footsteps and became a bounty hunter. The Balancer is their codename.
Pronouns: They/Them
Fresa: Togruta, light red/pink skin with green montral markings. (idc if that isn't natural this is sw i can do whatever i want.) Super long head montrals. Known for her hearty and boisterous laugh and great capacity for compassion. Fresa is very sure of herself, confident, head strong. She isn't afraid to voice her opinions and she'll do whatever it takes to get what she wants. Married to transfeminine as of yet unnamed togruta, they have a toddler together, with another child on the way
Pronouns: She/Her (wife's pronouns are also she/her)
G'ika: Obviously my most posted about family member, he started it all babey. Human, pink dyed hair that's long on the top/back and shaved on the sides. Shortest family member. G'ika was found as a toddler, drowned and abandoned, his near death experience is what gave him his force touch abilities. Fresa was the one to figure out that skin to skin conact was what set him off. G'ika moves to Coruscant at age 19, 2 years before the war starts. He hopes to find a jedi chill enough to teach him gow to better control the force, feeling like his self taught methods aren't the best. G'ika cannot hold down a reputable job, resorts to underground work, freelance repair work, smuggling, and information dealing. His roommate on Coruscant is Tosa, a Chadra-Fan that agreed to let him move in with her.
G'ika's pronouns are He/They
Solus and T'ad: (yes i admit their naming is lazy on my part but i think it's funny. Their names are literally One and Two in mando'a) Twi'lek identical twins, their skin is a dark orange-y pink color. Think Thing One and Two, they're very mischievous, they're inseparable, often just referred to as "the twins", and like to trick people by switching names every so often. Very smart duo, Solus loves to build droids, and reprogrammed an SBD, Spuddie, to help around the farm, T'ad enjoys fixing farm equipment and makes makeshift blasters. They're both selectively mute, tend to keep to themselves, and will sometimes wander off and spend days away from the family camping in the nearby forest.
Solus and T'ad both use they/them pronouns

Day 15 of 'Can I write the Ahsoka series before Disney makes a mess of it?'
Aka: Can I also simultaneously fix season 3 of The Mandalorian?
The Ahsoka series comes out on my birthday please please let it be good...
Anyway, this is my insane summer project! I'm aiming for 200k by September 1st and am currently at 40k (yes, I am on track).
Synopsis:
Somehow, Darth Maul returns. (As a force ghost.) (Somewhere Ahsoka thinks is probably the living force.)
This changes everything.
On the planet of B’ahor, Ahsoka rescues a girl who would otherwise have died. Her new padawan holds a connection to an entirely new understanding of the force, and Ahsoka can only hope that it will be enough to fight the coming darkness.
“It’s been a while,” says Ahsoka.
“It has.” Sabine has grown taller since Ahsoka last saw her, and her hair is cut short into a neon purple pixie cut. “So, you think you’ve found Ezra.”
They’re going to kill him. Tear him to pieces like a pack of wolves. Whatever they talked about, it doesn’t matter. Luke can’t let him die for the meagrest chance that Mandalore could be where they finally take a stand against the Empire’s relentless persecution. They can keep hiding, hiding is fine. Hiding keeps Din Djarin alive and safe and with Grogu and —
The darksaber slashes through the fight. Din stands, breathing heavily, the weapon clutched in his shaking hands.

Chapter 23: Homesickness
Din returned to his room feeling pain, he was missing Luke every minute more and more and this Miko man appeared before his eyes like a ghost haunting him, the ghost of Luke, he thought. He sat in silence on his couch, wanting to be on Yavin IV holding Grogu and holding his little Jedi. "There's only one Luke." He said under his breath. He fell asleep curling up on the couch in full beskar.
Grogu was sitting on Luke's lap, holding his silver ball between the little fingers of his two hands, staring at the sphere with fixed eyes, inches apart of his nose. Luke caressed his ear "You like it so much." He said resting the back of his head on the couch.
"Buir." Grogu said through the force.
"Right." Luke chuckled leaning forward now, "It's shiny like Buir."
"Buir coming back. Promised Grogu." The baby sent his thoughts to his Master.
"Yes, Grogu. He's coming back soon. If I know something about your father it's that he always keeps his promises." Luke turned his head to look through the window. The sky was blue. "He will be back..." He said with sadness in his eyes.
~
Koska found Din in the armoury, she's been looking for him the entire morning "Din! I finally see you, how are you?"
Din was carrying an amban phase-pulse blaster "I've been better." Koska frowned curling his lips up. "This is a disruptor sniper rifle, one of my favourites."
"What do you need that for?" She walked towards Din.
Din shook his head lightly "I don't... need it. Just missing the old days." Actually he was missing Grogu.
She nodded and chuckled "Well, I'm ready for our daily sparring, I missed that when you were off planet."
Din looked at her, she was smiling, tilting her head to the right. "I think that we don't need to do that anymore."
Her face changed, she looked confused "Din, you need more practice, you need to control that saber, to make it yours, truly yours."
"No."
"Come on, Din." She said loosely clasping his vambrace.
"I can't do it. It's wrong." He said, leaving the rifle on a shelf as he was walking away. Bo-Katan was standing by the doorway, she followed Din with her eyes when he passed by her side, then she looked at Koska arching one eyebrow with her arms crossed over her chest plate, Koska shrugged in response.
Din wouldn't spar with anyone again except Luke. "It's wrong." He said to Koska, and he really felt that way. To Din, spar with Luke was another form of sex, he would never cheat on his cyar'ika. Din has found the ultimate warrior in Luke and he was in love with him in every single way.
He was walking to his room to be alone and feel miserable when Paz and another mandalorian approached him. "Vod, I want you to meet one of your men."
Din sighed rolling his shoulders and rolling his eyes under his helmet "Alright."
"This is Miko, he's part of your royal guard. Miko, this is your Mand'alor." Paz moved his hand gesturing at Din. The mandalorian took off his helmet and Din froze at the sight. The kid, because he looked like a kid, was flipping his blonde hair, his face resembled Luke's, he had brown eyes though. His smile was wide and bright, the kid was radiant, but not as radiant as Luke, and he looked younger, much younger than the little Jedi.
"It is an honour to meet you, Your Highness." He bowed before Din. His smile reached his eyes, just as Luke's. Din shook his head. "I will give my life to protect you, Mand'alor. This is the way."
Din nodded, eyes wide open behind his visor, "This is the way..."
"This kid is a jem, vod. You wouldn't believe it, he looks young but he's skilled and the best of the royal guard. He will make us so proud." Paz snapped his head towards Miko "Alright kid, dismissed." The kid nodded and walked away. Paz looked Din up and down "You know, the kid reminds me of someone, but I can't put my finger on it, maybe you can help me."
"What are you doing?" Din was done.
"Come on, I'm helping you, vod." Din stared at him without saying a word, without making a move. "Hey, I got it last night, you can't have your kid's Master, but this boy... This boy you can have." He was jostling Din.
"You're insane. How old is he?"
"Twenty-one, twenty-two... it doesn't matter, he's legal. I promise."
Din turned around "Kriff off, Paz". He was furious.
"Hey, the kid asked to meet you, and then... imagine my surprise when I saw he was your type!" Type? What type? Din thought while he was walking into his room. He was closing the door and Paz held it with one hand resting his body against the door frame.
"Listen vod, the kid's interested, I can arrange it, just give me the order."
"I said kriff off!" Paz moved away from the door and Din slammed it shut behind him.
~
That night Din made it into the dinner area, he had never been there before. The room was huge and crowded, they all went silent when Din walked in.
"Take your seat, please, Mand'alor." Koska said from the other side of the room, Din walked towards her. He sat at the centre of the main table, he didn't accept any food, he just stayed there. Paz wasn't there, the children of the watch used to eat alone in the privacy of their bedrooms.
Din stared in every direction, searching. He found what he was looking for. The guard that looked like his Jedi. Miko was staring directly at his visor, with a grin on his face. Din avoided his gaze and moved his head to look at Koska who was sitting beside him.
He looked at his young guard every now and then, and every time the man was staring at him, always smiling, always warm and radiant and from that distance Din could fool himself, thinking that he was really staring at Luke.
~
Din spent the next week working with the council, relocating people and receiving updates from Shrune. It was curious but while he was on planet, protesters didn't show up and the streets were at peace. He was starting to think that it wasn't as serious as Paz made it look like. Maybe these people weren't a menace after all.
Some nights he kept exploring his body's sensations, trying to satisfy himself the way Luke satisfied him.
He was starting to feel more confident about his moves, his own touch. He managed to prolong his performance, he really wanted to give it all next time Luke and him were tangled in little Jedi's bed.
The Jedi was so sure of himself. Din on the other hand, had never been in a serious relationship, he was amused by the way he gave himself to Luke, more than once, especially since he could remove all the barriers between him and his lover, lying vulnerable and exposed next to Luke without the armour's protection. That protection was not only physical, but symbolic.
All of Din's sexual encounters had been one night stands. Except for his first girl, she was a foundling as well and kids were curious and restless back in the fighting corps.
She was eighteen, Din was seventeen, but he had been crushing on her since he was fourteen, they were seeing each other in secret, it lasted a couple of months till she favoured Paz over Din. The ambivalent relationship between Din and Paz began that day, still they were brothers, no matter what.
Din shut himself down until his twenties, things had gone downhill when he started hanging around with the wrong people.
Every time he hooked up with someone he found really attractive, men preferably, he felt miserable afterwards.
He used to handcuffed them, because he didn't trust them at all, even when they were naked and hard against him. He was always dressed, pants around his thighs plates and he only lifted his helmet just enough to expose his mouth in order to went down on someone.
Sex was rough and fast, without kissing, without cuddling and without deep connection. To Din it was just a way to relieve himself.
He became a lone wolf by the time he was in his early thirties, even when people were still hitting on him all the time, he didn't care at all, he wasn't interested in those fast encounters anymore. He was tired and embracing the fact that he would never feel love for someone, let alone being loved back by said person.
That lonely life changed when Din and Grogu became clan, as father and son. Little did he know his ad'ika would lead him into Luke's arms, and he was halfway now, knowing that he finally fell in love with someone and hoping that Luke eventually, someday, would love him back.
He woke up to the holocomm's flickering light, a message from chancellor Shrune:
"Greetings, Your Highness. As you already know, I'm still on Coruscant, negotiations are going well. Still, The Senate requires your presence, please, come as soon as you get this message. We'll be waiting for you."
~
Bo-Katan and Paz were pushing him into being scorted by his royal guard, Din argued with them, he wouldn't take any person with him, he had plans. "I'm The Mand'alor, do as I say. I'm going off planet alone, and that's final." He deadpanned.
Bo-Katan sighed staring at Paz and walked away. "Fine, Mand'alor, I hope you won't end up dead."
Din didn't hesitate, by breakfast time he was on The Mudhorn, alone, leaving Mandalore behind, knowing that he wasn't coming back any time soon.

Brave New World Pt. 2
Honestly I don't even know why I write these. By principle I refuse to divulge any sort of real information in this pre-text, yet still I write them. Maybe I'll stop. But not today.
I 'awoke' from my sleepless night with a desire to get my arm fixed. I left Padme to sleep in awhile longer, while I made my way to the Grand Republic Medical Facility. This place is wildly huge. I'm sure they work with the civilian population a lot, but it's also the largest medical facility the clone army uses, and those military prosthetics are legit. I'm curious to see what my options will be.
Upon receiving a room, I began talking to the droid who would be doing the procedure.
"Greetings. I am 2-1B66. How may I be of service to you?"
"I need a new arm." I tell it. "What do you got?"
"Affirmative. Are you looking for a replacement, or an enhancement?"
What a trap question. Am I supposed to feel bad for wanting a better arm? "Let's do an enhancement."
"Affirmative. Running clearance. General Skywalker, you are authorized to create prosthetics reinforced with phrik. A flamethrower may also be installed."
WHOA. What did this thing just say? I can't shake the feeling that if I install a flamethrower in my arm Padme will be upset. "Yea that sounds perfect thanks." On the other hand when life gives you flamethrowers...
As the droid begins operating, my room door opens, and Ahsoka enters looking troubled. "Master are you alright?" she asks.
"Don't worry Snips I'm fine." I assure her. "Don't let the missing arm thing bother you."
"No it's not that." she says. "When I apprehended Maul on Mandalore he-"
"Oh yea that's right." I said. In the chaos of the last couple days, I'd completely forgotten she did that. "How did that go? Good I assume?"
"Master listen!" she insisted. Padawans are so impatient. "Maul seemed to be having premonitions of a terrible Sith plot that directly involved you. Have the Sith attacked you?"
"No need to be on edge Snips." I tell her. "Me and Master Windu took care of the Sith lord." I should probably stop lying about that, but it really briefs a lot better this way.
She laughs. "The Sith made a mistake when they chose to mess with my master." She announced proudly. About this time the medical droid begins testing the flamethrower without telling anybody. Ahsoka doesn't flinch. She just looks at me incredulously and asks, "Are you really getting a flamethrower installed in your arm?"
"It's for self-defense." I don't think she bought it.
The medical droid cuts in, "Base construction is complete. Would you like to install a Synthskin coating?" Maybe I can make Padme happy.
"Yes please that would be great."
Ahsoka interjects, "Oh you're going with the fleshy look now?"
"I am. You know the war is over, and it's time to stop thinking like a soldier." Yea that sounds legit.
"You just installed a flamethrower in your arm!" Ah. That's a good point.
"Once you have lived 22 full rotations as I have, maybe then you'll be able to see how a flamethrower can be used for peace." Don't look her way. I will not crack.
Finally she says, "Thank you for instilling me with your infinite wisdom master."
"So do you think you're gonna rejoin the order now that the war is over?" I'm really hoping the answer is yes.
She only sighs. "I'm sorry master, but the order has broken my trust. My issues with the order are not resolved now that the republic is at peace."
"I do understand that. Now more than ever. So then where will you go?"
"Well with war finally out of the picture the galaxy has never felt so open. I need to see the galaxy and form my own opinion about what it does and doesn't need."
"Well I hope you find what you're looking for in your adventures." The door opens again, and Padme comes in. "Senator Amidala." I say. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Are you still going to do this?" Ahsoka asks. "I'm not even in the order anymore."
"Not to mention Ani lacks all subtlety." Padme says. The girls seem to find that very funny.
"Alright. Alright." I say.
"Oh Ani you did get the synthskin!" Padme exclaims. "I love you." She leans in for a kiss.
"I love you too." I resolve to never look in Ahsoka's direction for at least the next 24 hours as I give Padme a kiss. And i swear she better never mention the flamethrower.
But the droid lacking all awareness announces, "Construction complete General Skywalker. Would you like to field test your new weapon?"
Padme gives me a look, but I'm quick on my feet. "It's a military droid Padme. It thinks of every prosthetic as a weapon." Never look in Ahsoka's direction ever again. Even with her out of my field of view, I can see the look she's giving me. "Anyways why'd you swing by anyway?"
"Well the Senate is having an emergency meeting to negotiate a Peace Treaty with the Separatists, and to elect a new Chancellor. Although I think the second objective is lesser known."
"Oh alright. Well good luck darling."
"ALSO I heard the Jedi Council is holding an emergency meeting today as well, and I figured you probably need to be at that, and I also figured this will probably be the first you're hearing about it."
"In fact it is." I say. "When were they gonna tell me?"
"Oh Ani relax." she says. "It's very early and you've been sitting in the hospital all morning. How would they have found you?"
"Well you found me."
"Because I knew you only had one arm."
"Ok well... Ahsoka found me."
Ahsoka says, "I was already here. I was looking after the 501st guys that got transferred here when I heard of your arrival." Ok I need to drop this I guess.
"Well anyway it sounds like we have places to be."
Author's note
The ending felt abrupt. But it just started feeling like it was getting too long. I'm so confused about what it is I'm making. I like it, but it doesn't seem inherently interesting. There's gotta be a splash. The question is where, and when? Can I make 10 parts of Brave new world that's pretty much just dialogue without it being too much? would I ever make it that far? And is the whole Brave new world series destined to be monotonous? Find out next time on: The incoherent ramblings of a madman Thursdays at 8/7C.

Come Find Me
For Day 2 of @jangobiweek, Time Travel.
42 BBY, Mandalor:
Obi-Wan concentrated on the pack Satine had given him to use.  He wasn’t sure what he was going to do if he actually looked around.  They may have only been in this building for a week, but already it was full of memories.
Memories he cherished deeply.
But Satine didn’t need him to protect her anymore, especially with Bo-Katan having rejoined her. Satine would be fine.  Bo-Katan would balance out Satine’s lust for peace when it started to push into an uncompromising hatred of their cultural past. Satine didn’t want to lose any more of her family.
And… Jan.  Jan would go back to wherever he had been before Satine and Obi-Wan had stumbled upon him.  The other teen had been bewildered by they two fugitives but he had jumped in to help them.
Jan’s knowledge of Mandalorian history, the parts that weren’t as talked about when so much focus was on the battles and wars.  That had been what has swayed Satine to being less extreme.  And Obi-Wan had felt the Force shift.  Something had changed with that, something was different.  Though he couldn’t say what.
As to Obi-Wan, he was enamored with the tale of Dorjander and Varda.  It was tragic, and he could see so many ways it could have been solved but…
But it fanned the flames of hope he kept inside.  The idea that he could one day have a love for someone who would understand that being a Jedi was as much a part of him as his own blood.
The romantic idea of Jedi having families outside of the Temple was one that had faded over time, he knew.  Too many wanted a choice between their own love and the Jedi Way.
But Dorjander and Varda had made it work when they were enemies.
Some part of him hoped…
Jan kept his distance though, something always held back.
So Obi-Wan would go back to the Jedi and yearn like the heroine’s in Galen’s holodramas.  It was fine.
“Obi-Wan!”
He looked up and towards the door, bewildered by the frantic energy that Jan was putting out.
The dark-haired boy was clutching the door, a wild look in his eyes.  His red beskar’gam gleamed and reflected the building around them. Satine had wanted both of them to look immaculate as she met with the Clans and Jan had indulged her with all the air of a sibling.
But… there was something off about it.  Something Obi-Wan couldn’t put his finger on.
“Listen to me Obi-Wan,” Jan urged, stepping closer, “I need you to understand, I’ll find you, tion’suvarir?”
“Jan, wha-”
“Gar cuy ner haa’it, Obi’ika.  I will find you.”
“Jan, I,” Obi-Wan couldn’t tell what the Force was doing, it was frantic and rushed and pulling but he couldn’t tell where it was pulling to, “Jan you know where I’ll be, you don’t need to find me.”
“It’ll be a while, but I have to let things play out until now,” Jan reached out but his hand hovered between them.
And suddenly Obi-Wan knew what was off.
He could see the hall, the room, everything, through Jan.
“Jan!” he yelped, hands now frantically reaching out, but unsure where to land or if they would just go through Jan.
Jan gave him a crooked grin.
“Ni cuy Jango Fett.”
And he faded away as Obi-Wan’s hands went to his arms.
31 BBY, Jedha:
Obi-Wan stood back as Anakin joined the Adepts.  He wanted to make sure Anakin knew he had choices.  Plus, it was good to distract the boy while Quinlan wove a web to get his mother free.
He felt more than saw someone step up next to him.
“You know, you are rather late,” he spoke, looking sideways to his companion.
“Trikayc,” Jango said, shrugging, “I had some things I had to deal with.”
Obi-Wan smiled before it faded.
“I looked you up you know. After.”
Jango tilted his head, buy’ce still in place.
“Ni ceta,” Obi-Wan told him, “it was my Grandmaster who led at Galidraan.”
“K’lamot di’dunyc.”
They were silent.
“You have a dangerous enemy ner kar’ta,” Jango said, “but, luckily he doesn’t know about my little time travel adventure.  So, he isn’t expecting me to come to you.”
“And are you?” Obi-Wan asked.
“I would speak the Riduurok to you right now if you asked.”
Obi-Wan turned to Jango now, shocked.
“Jango…”
“I had to deal with how to reconcile everything I knew about you with how the Jetii on Galidraan acted, my grief, and what happened after.  But I always was going to find you again Obi’ika.  I told you before didn’t I, gar cuy ner haa’it.”

“Hurt” for the WIP ask?
oh boy let's see where my most ancient wips are, because i've realized now that none of my wips are..... concrete real wips. i just kinda start writing shit and drop it in a channel and forget about it. whoops. but i can search and see the last time i said "hurt"???
Satine only softens her gaze and “This is why I had to leave. You still love me, and this hurts you.”
(context under the cut!)
So, this comes from me looking at the story between Satine and Obi-Wan and being entirely sick of it. SO I'm throwing most of it right in the trashcan.
Satine, for starters, is no longer erasing Mandalorian warrior culture in the name of "peace and prosperity"; she was born and raised Kalevalan (which I can only assume Kalevala has long-since held royalty > war standards but at their core remember they are Mandalorians) as well as Bo-Katan, and the two brothers they also share. Blah blah blah, their father is assassinated, and their mother employs a divide and conquer plan to keep her children from suffering the same fate.
In short, Satine is sent to Coruscant to learn diplomacy where there are more guards to deal with and less opportunities to kill her. She meets Obi-Wan when Qui-Gon insists they need to go on a field trip to escort her safely, and yes - Obi-Wan and Satine fall in love. They're both well aware that they're two stupid teenagers in love with the last person in the galaxy they should be loving.
But once things uh. Ahem. Get a little steamy, Satine suddenly breaks things off with him and disappears. She does not contact him for roughly fifteen years. They do not see each other again until Obi-Wan, now a Jedi Ambassador to his Master's Jedi Diplomat, and realizes oh. He never stopped being in love with her.
(And to be fair to Obi-Wan, here's his deal - yes Qui-Gon was murdered on Naboo by Darth Maul. But the following events were greatly altered: - Obi-Wan was not appointed as Anakin's Master. Grandmaster Windu did not give one fuck about what Qui-Gon's dying wish was, because Obi-Wan is a 25 year old Padawan who has not had a lick of proper training and has been abandoned on a battlefield multiple times in his childhood. Anakin was given to another Master able to properly help him hone his power while Obi-Wan was checked into therapy and also given a new Master, who very effectively dads him and helps as best he can.) So he's seeing her again for the first time in fifteen years, and with Mandalore choosing neutrality - he had heard very little news besides a Duchess being appointed alongside the Mand'alor Bo-Katan Kryze. He could have only guessed that the Duchess was Satine, but was never strong enough to go looking for answers. He also saw a fourteen year old child doing some very familiar  poses..
She's still initially very cold and curt with him, because through her visor she can see how he lurches forward and wants to run right to her. She holds up a hands and tells him "business first", and runs the meeting with Master Drovaddal (Obi-Wan's new Master and the Diplomat) before dismissing everyone at its adjourning and summoning Obi-Wan to her side.
And there's the moment when he's wanting to ask a million questions, all of them racing behind his eyes, but one look at Satine answers them all. When she removes her glove and places a hand to his cheek, her heart breaks a little more when Obi-Wan moves into her touch. Because they're both still in love with one another, and both wish that things could have been just a little different in their favors.
But, they both have duties they cannot abandon. Satine had to leave and keep him in the dark or else Obi-Wan would have abandoned the Order and left no one in his place.
PERHAPS I HAVE FEELINGS ABOUT THEM and obligatory tags - @chiafett @purgetrooperfox @keys-to-the-stars since you all like me fixing this shit

III - INFORMANT
Tumblr media
Warnings: mild language.
____________
This one is a bit short but worth it.
METANOIA Master list
_________
At that moment, I wish I didn't exist.
The men parted ways, allowing the terrifying Commander through. His footsteps were heavy and threatening as he walked towards the General and me.
"What's the issue General?" This was the first time I heard his modulated voice, and it was as scary as it was said to be.
The General did little to show his disgust at being near the Commander, "This technician is working where a confidential meeting is to be held. Unfortunately, she has no other work to attend to and I don't want her just lying around being useless."
The Commander stared at Hux for a moment then turned to me; the black holes of his mask once again boring into my soul.
Taking a few more steps towards me, he raises his hand. I brace myself for any type of physical contact, not taking my eyes off of his helmet.
"You are to stay and continue your work, but you are to not listen to a word said during this meeting," His modulated voice sent a chill down my spine.
I wanted to reply, but I couldn't. My body was no longer under my control.
"I will stay and continue my work. I will not listen to a word said during the meeting," I repeated his words against my will. It was like I could no longer control myself, and I just had to watch it all happen through my eyes.
I turned and went back to work, lying on the floor and wedging myself back into the vent. Once again becoming oblivious to the world.
_____________
I wasn't sure how long I had been working in the vent. My body was on autopilot the whole time. It could've been a few hours or thirty minutes when I re-emerged. The high-class men, General, and Commander were still sitting at the long meeting table, discussing something intelligible. Any word they said went through one ear and out the other.
I got up off the ground and went to my tool bag, looking for the necessary items to begin fixing another wiring panel. As I rummaged through my bag, I got a glance at the holo map floating a few inches off the table. I froze; disobeying the hold over me. I knew exactly what that map was, but it wasn't right. I fought against the hold on my mind, eventually breaking it into millions of little pieces. Not knowing that my next words would determine my fate, I spoke.
     "That map is wrong."
All heads turned towards me. The General's and Commander's stares were harsh.
"Excuse me?" General Hux asked, his voice laced in venom.
I gestured at the holo map, "That map is wrong."
The General, who was standing by the holo controls, was ready to bash and possibly kill me for pointing something out. But before he could speak, someone else spoke.
"Sit down General." The Commander ordered.
"But sir, she isn't supposed to -"
     "Sit. Down. General,"
Hux went and sat, not without a huff of frustration. The Commander bore into me.
"How?" That was all he asked.
"Well," I walked over to the controls, "while I have no clue as to what you all were talking about, I do know that this map is incorrect."
The General scoffed, "How do you know if it's wrong if you don't even know what the map is?"
"With all due respect, General, I know what this map is. It's a portion of the planet Adoni. A forested planet lush with greenery and an unlimited source of Iadrite. This is the area where one of the main cities is located. Everything on this map is accurate except for two things."
I point to the eastern side of the city, "One, there should be a small village right where that forest is, and two," I point to the northern side of the mountain near the city, "right here should be the landing pad and entrance of an old abandoned Resistance base. It was up and running during the time of the Empire, but was abandoned shortly after the fall of the Death star."
I pause; every person at the table is staring at me: some with indifference, surprise, and others (mainly the General) with murderous intent. Clearing my throat, I begin to type into the control panel.
"That's how the map is wrong, sirs."
"But that's impossible! We just received this map from the Senator of Adoni today!" The General exclaimed.
I continued to type, "Well, the Senator, or whoever made the map, lied to you." With a few more clicks, the holo map disappears and is replaced by a similar one. "I was just able to hack into the geographical records of Adoni, speaking of which they need to up their firewalls, but this is what the map should truly look like."
On the map, right as I said there would be, was a village to the east of the city and a landing dock to the north of the mountain.
No one spoke. It was as if no one was breathing. They all just stared at me. The Commander, who had been extremely quiet the whole time, spoke.
"And how do you know all this?" His voice was calm with a hint of interest.
"I was born there sir. Lived there until I was five then went traveling and learning the galaxy with my father. If you don't believe me, sir, you can check my records."
"How can we believe you? For all we know, your records may be a fake as well!" Hux accused.
I was going to speak, going to defend myself, but the prickling sensation returned to my mind. The Commander. He was going through my brain again.
"She tells the truth. Her mind shows no signs of lying." He states. Hux could do nothing but huff.
I shift on my feet, "I'm sorry sirs, I've just realized my actions. My input wasn't needed, but whatever you are planning, I didn't want you all to walk into something and get ambushed due to false information.
"Your insubordination will be punished, little technician. It was not your place to-" The General began but was cut off. He began to cough, clawing at his throat to breathe. He was suffocating. The Commander was now staring at him.
After a few, agonizing seconds, the General was able to breathe again and the Commander looked to me.
     "Leave, all of you."
Taking no chance, everyone stood up, hasty to leave. I bowed my head and too began to leave but was stopped.
     "Not you, little technician."
I fully regret opening my mouth now, he's gonna kill me.
"I won't kill you. Sit. We have a matter to discuss."
I cautiously make my way to a seat at the other end of the table, near the control panel. The seat is still warm when I sit, and the Commander's mask bores into my eyes.
"You've shown a great deal of knowledge. Had you not pointed it out, my men would have surely walked into something. That being said, you mentioned traveling and studying the galaxy, yes?"
     "Yes sir."
     "Tell me about it."
His words caught me off guard, "I'm sorry?"
"Tell me about your travels." He leaned back in his chair.
"Um, well, I lived on Adoni 'till I was five like I had said, then left and went to Ryloth. I was there for half a year, learned the language, culture, all that, then we picked up again and went to Mandalore. Then Shili, Pillo, Malastare, you name it. I studied every language, every culture, every aspect of that planet. The only planet I haven't been to is Mustafar."
     "Why not Mustafar?"
"My father said that it was a haunted planet. Full of death and sadness. Told me that sometimes, the ghost of Padme Amidala could be heard; wailing for her husband and children, and would take revenge on any childbearing woman who stepped onto the planet."
"Interesting. Wouldn't have taken you for someone superstitious.”
     "I'm not. My father was."
The Commander let out something that sounded like a chuckle, but it was distorted by his helmet. "Why travel?"
"My father wanted me to be educated on the galaxy. He hoped that one day I may become a royal translator or something. I just wanted to see the world and learn."
The Commander took a moment to ponder. "Why did you stop?"
"My father died when I was eighteen. We had just landed on Nevarro when he got sick. Passed a few days later. I had hardly any money, so when the recruitment ship for the first order showed up, it was my only option at the time, so I took it."
     "You could've joined the Resistance."
"True, true. But the First Order didn't have a vendetta against me, so I went with it."
     "Interesting. What did you do?"
I rubbed the back of my neck, "Uh, I would rather not talk about it. It's personal. But if you don't mind me asking sir, why the sudden interest in my past? What benefit can you get out of it?"
He hummed in acknowledgment, "Well, based on your knowledge and past, I have a proposition for you.
      "Yes, sir?"
"Be my informant. My diplomatic ambassador. Translator. Your rank would be higher, you'd be in charge of diplomatic missions, treaties, alliances; you'd be the First Order's informant; bringing us more power through alliances and knowledge," he paused, "or you can stay a technician. Live your life fixing broken things; toiling away among metal and screws. The choice is yours."
My thoughts are running. It's a tempting deal.
This was what my father wanted me to be.
      But do I want this?
"So, what will your answer be?"
I stayed silent. I didn't know what to say. This could all be some joke and I end up being his informant for a week and then I'm cast off to the side again. But hell, his offer sounded too good to pass up.
"I don't have all day. What is your answer?"
     A beat of silence.
     "I'll do it."

Not that it’s a problem.
Dominoes by @meridiansdominoes | WIP | Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Summary: "So. We died." Hevy's voice is flat.
“Yes, we died,” Fives confirms. Even though his hands are steady on Echo’s shoulders, his voice trembles. “We all… remember, right?”
Everyone nods. Droidbait shudders, and shuffles closer to Cutup.
“How is that possible?” he mutters. “We’re not Jedi. We can’t… see the kriffing future, or whatever it was. We can’t—it’s just not possible. How could we all have had the same dream?”
Domino squad wakes up to find themselves back on Kamino, hours from taking their final test... except they remember passing the final test, and they each remember dying afterwards, too.
lost again with no surprises by @katierosefun | WIP | Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Summary: When Anakin goes missing under mysterious circumstances, Obi-Wan takes it upon himself to find his former apprentice. However, finding Anakin is no easy task—which is why Obi-Wan teams up with a particular former grandpadawan.
[or: a galaxy-wide road trip au because nothing says ‘fix your family issues’ like a good old road trip between a Jedi dad and his estranged daughter.]
Wardrobe Malfunction by BatmanWhoLaughss | One-shot | Star Wars: Rebes
Summary: Inspired by this piece of art by @NeeeAnn on twitter
Kanan loses a bet, and the results are predictably ridiculous.
Chasing the Past by BatmanWhoLaughss | One-shot | Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Summary: “You… you look like him.” The voice was quiet, almost awestruck, and Luke turned, startled. With his lightsaber in hand, he took a defensive position, stepping back and taking in the newcomer.
Standing before him and watching him with a warm, thoughtful expression, was a tall woman in a white cloak-- a Togruta, he realized. Her blue eyes were trained on him intensely, but as she slowly pulled back her hood, he saw she was smiling softly. She carried twin sabers at her waist, Luke realized with a jolt, and as he watched her warily, he felt… calmed, somehow. There was a sense of familiarity about her—he could feel it in the Force. It was like he… knew her somehow, even though he’d never seen this woman before.
It was unnerving.
I Scream But No Sound Comes out by @laxit21 | WIP | Arrow
Summary: When Oliver returns from Lian Yu after five years, he comes back different. What happened there damaged more than just his body. How will his friends and family deal with this new Oliver?
Space Dad Lives by @maximumsuckage | WIP| Star Wars
Summary: AU starting directly after TPM. Qui-gon didn't die, but he's sure not okay after taking a lightsaber to the gut. Obi-wan, still reeling after Mandalore, is now the hero who killed a Sith and vowed to train the Chosen One. Anakin is going to be a Jedi so he can free his mother and his people.
And the healers are kind of sick of dealing with the Jinn/Kenobi team.

Hello! Love your writing I especially loved the dooku and obi wan scene in your latest chapter so much so I'm requesting something with more dooku and obi wan bonding if you have time/feel inspired! Maybe dooku going qui gon you fool why'd you reject a perfectly good padawan look at him you gave him anxiety and just like adopting obi wan bc he secretly likes being a grandpa
(not sure if you intended for this to be in dha kar’ta ‘verse, but that’s absolutely where i’ve decided to put it
because i’ve secretly been hoping someone would ask about their first meeting in ‘verse and i.... i didn’t know where to fit it into the actual fic sooooo have some backstory! side note that i think the ceremony from the 2003 Clone Wars is a mite dramatic, so i cherry-picked the bits that i liked ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
The council has never known quite what to make of him, this tiny temperamental spitfire from a planet on the edge of wildspace, so their confusion when he returns from Illum with a darksaber at his side and someone else’s memories in his head – well, it isn’t exactly new.
When he hands his new ‘saber to Master Plo and he ignites the blade, when the chamber somehow grows even quieter than before, Obi-Wan expects questions, he expects demands for an explanation, for some reason he expects pity. He does not expect for Master Yoda to stare at him before bursting into hoarse cackles that startle even Master Windu .
“Hrrmmm! An interesting development this is! But unsurprising perhaps it should be, yes. Your first tie to Mandalore this is not, hrm?”
  Obi-Wan swallows. “Master Yoda, I...”
“Hmm hmm,” the old troll continues to chuckle over the whistle of his lightsaber. “To defend yourself there is no need, Padawan Kenobi. Put us through idle trials the Force does not, hm? Unclear now though it is, reveal itself the answer will, yes. Understand, do you?”
A familiar lesson that his master had drilled into his head in his very first days of apprenticeship. “Yes, Master,” Obi-Wan murmurs, and with a nod to the grandmaster, Plo steps back in front of Obi-Wan; the remaining masters take their seats.
“Padawan Kenobi,” Plo starts softly, as if the words are just for him and not the council, “In light of your successful apprenticeship and your noteworthy accomplishments before and during the Invasion of Naboo, the council waives all necessity for formal assessment by the Trials. With your permission to take the place of your master, by the right of the council and the will of the Force, I would be honoured to knight you, Padawan Kenobi.”
Sucking in a breath, Obi-Wan steps forward and allows Plo to take up his padawan braid. When Plo raises his ‘saber to his temple, Obi-Wan does not flinch.
-
He steps out of the council chambers alone, but he doesn't remain that way for long: Anakin runs up to him immediately, newly dressed in the soft dark clothes of the créche as he throws himself bodily into Obi-Wan’s arms. With an oof of surprise, Obi-Wan catches him, and somehow manages not to topple them both over.
“Anakin,” he says breathlessly, looking around the waiting area for Qui-Gon –Force, he hopes it isn’t Qui-Gon– but finds his grandmaster instead, slowly and purposefully joining them before the council doors. Obi-Wan’s throat closes.
“Congratulations, Knight Kenobi,” Yan Dooku rumbles pleasantly, raising a brow at Anakin until he steps back with a sheepish smile. “Young Skywalker expressed a desire to come congratulate you himself, and as I was already headed this direction, I thought I would escort him.”
“Master Dooku said I can’t call you Obi-Wan anymore now that you’re a knight, but I think that’s stupid,” Anakin says, rocking on his feet.
Obi-Wan hasn’t ever met his master’s master even in passing, not with Dooku’s time with the sentinels and how rarely Qui-Gon was ever actually in-Temple during Obi-Wan’s training. Senior apprentice rumours had Master Dooku pegged to leave the Order, after ten too many arguments with the council; Obi-Wan hadn’t expected a proper introduction while Dooku was still a Jedi.
At his side, Obi-Wan’s lightsaber hums warmly, rising in volume until it’s almost a scream. Neither Dooku nor Anakin seem to notice, and Obi-Wan’s other two ‘sabers never sang to him like this, but perhaps... perhaps he knows what they’re trying to tell him, anyways.
Wordlessly, Obi-Wan holds out his padawan braid clenched in his fist, meeting Dooku’s surprised eyes squarely and without fear.
“Am I the one you should be giving that to, Knight Kenobi?” Dooku asks softly, no accusation in his voice – just an infinite sort of sadness.
Obi-Wan swallows and forces his mouth to work. “Will you allow me to share in your studies?” Even Anakin knows this is something big, bigger than he understands, and says nothing as Dooku’s brows furrow deep enough to darken the lines of his face. But still his ‘saber sings. “I still have much to learn,” Obi-Wan manages, “About my visions in the caves of Ilum, and of myself. I am under no illusion that my training is complete at knighthood, Master Dooku. No, this is where it begins.”
Tension hangs heavy in the air, Anakin looking between the two of them quickly before settling on Obi-Wan’s outstretched fist. He wonders if the masters can sense just what is happening on the other side of their doors, if that infinite sadness he did not know he shared so intimately with Qui-Gon’s master is as palpable to them as it is to him.
Finally, Dooku exhales with a bemused chuckle. “It would be an honour, Knight Kenobi,” he says, taking Obi-Wan’s braid from his numb fingers. “But I must warn you that I am a far stricter teacher than your master.”
And Obi-Wan smiles, his ‘saber vibrating at his hip with an infinite glee, as something feral slips into the Force between them. “With respect, I’m counting on it, Master Dooku.”

Chapter 30: Agitation
The royal guard surrounding them. Din looked around, suddenly a group of people were pushing against the left line of guards. Din could hear the word "Traitor" before dodging a stone, he turned his upper body to see Grogu secured in Luke's arms.
Luke nodded, Din understood Grogu would be safe.
Five guards ran towards the protesters while three of them shielded Din, "Don't! Don't do this! Go to my son!" He yelled, throwing his hands between them to free himself "Go!"
Din was sitting on the bench outside the cockpit, the one he found uncomfortable two cicles ago. The pain in his back and hips in synchrony with the distress he was feeling since he heard about that their brothers were killing each other over his title.
This is a curse. He thought staring down at the darksaber.
Suddenly he snapped his head up, footsteps coming towards his direction. Luke was in front of him, scratching his forearm, eyes fixed on the floor.
"Din?" He looked up to meet Din's visor.
Din leaned his back against the wall "We're entering Mandalore's atmosphere in a couple of hours." Luke walked towards him, now his knees were touching Din's. "What is it, Luke?"
Luke leaned forward and put a hand on Din's thigh plate "Can I try something?" He was caressing his thigh now. Din nodded, his face was so close to his helmet that Din wanted to take it off to feel his Jedi against his skin.
Luke moved slowly, always staring at Din's eyes behind the visor as he sat down on his lap.
"You don't need to do this, mesh'la." Din caressed his hair, desperate to hold Luke and feel him on his lap for the next two hours.
"I want to." He said, Din's heart was racing, he moved his hands away from Luke. He placed them at the sides of his helmet, waiting. Luke understood what he was asking for "Yes, Din, take it off."
Din felt the cool air on the skin of his face, his cheeks were red and burning, his eyes full of love staring at Luke's "Thank you, Luke."
"You're so beautiful, Din. Inside and out." He pressed a kiss on Din's forehead, stroking his hair. One of Din's hands on Luke's lower back the other over his hip, embracing him.
Din rested his face on Luke's shoulder, Luke was pressing his cheek against his hair. "Stay like this, cyar'ika, stay like this. Please."
Luke caressed his nape "All the time you want, sweetheart." Din cried against his chest, desperate hands holding him "It's okay, love, I'm here." Din frowned hearing Luke calling him love, but he was so broken in his arms, thinking about what he was about to face in a couple of hours that he couldn't react to Luke's words.
They stayed there for so long that Luke fell asleep in Din's arms. Din was focused on the way Luke's chest moved with every breath against him, he was staring at his face, astonished, not believing little Jedi was sleeping like a baby on his lap. He kissed his eyelids, he loved to do that since they got rid of the blindfold. Luke blinked and then he smiled moving his hands over Din's nape.
"I don't feel my legs." Din said chuckling. Luke tried to move but he held him closer. "No. Wait. Stay for a little more." He ran his knuckles over Luke's cheek. "Can you sense how's Grogu?"
"He's still sleeping." Luke stared at his eyes "He's fine."
I can't believe you're staring into my eyes, cyar'ika.
"I need to ask you something." Din said.
Luke looked at him focusing on every word. "Please, when we get to Mandalore you can't interfere, you can't use the force to help me, I'm The Mand'alor, whatever happens to me, you don't do anything. This is the way." Luke nodded. "But... You're gonna take Grogu with you, and I need you to protect him, do whatever you need to keep him safe, just... Please, don't kill them, I mean, do it as the last resort. Would you?" Luke's eyes looked like a little kid's, curious and pure, and Din was enamoured of that. Focus, Djarin.
"I won't kill anyone, I promise. And no one's gonna hurt Grogu, they won't."
Din was remembering the time Luke killed that mandalorian on Yavin IV just by clenching his fist.
"And I won't interfere, I trust your skills, you're ready, I'm telling this as your sparring." Luke smirked and closed his eyes leaning forward to softly kiss Din, his lips feeling soft and plump against Din's, he smiled against his mouth.
Din was dizzy, he was astounded by Luke's behavior, he cleared his throat "Ah, I'm not complaining, cyar'ika, but what is this? This is different. What... What are you doing?" He asked him holding the back of his head with one hand.
Luke was looking at his mouth "I stopped worrying." He looked up to meet Din's eyes. He smiled.
Ah, kriff, you're driving me crazy, cyare.
Din squeezed his thigh "What do you mean?"
He tossed his head back "Hmm..." Luke was pressing his lips against each other. Don't push, don't push him. Din thought. "I'm not worrying, Din." He was fluttering his eyelashes. Din smiled, hypnotized. "Should I bring Grogu?"
Din was still staring at him, mouth agape, holding his breath.
"Din?"
"What? Oh, yes, go for him, I'm going to the cockpit." He smiled as Luke pressed a quick kiss on his lips.
"I'm on my way." He was walking away, Din outstretched his arm to caress him till the last second. He couldn't help but feel hope, Luke was slowly opening himself up to him. This is a dream.
Mandalore on the other hand, was his nightmare. The worst, terrifying nightmare.
~
Din felt a lump in his throat the minute he was walking down the ramp of The Mudhorn, he was very conscious of Luke and Grogu behind him.
Then he could realize the rest of the guards were protecting his boys.
His heart was jumping from his chest. In the confusion he caught a glimpse of Paz tackling a mandalorian who was heading to him, he saw another man running towards Luke.
"Take my son inside! Take them both inside!" He was desperately shouting to the guards surrounding Luke "Luke! Go inside!"
The mandalorian was behind them, Din could see a vibroknife, the man was throwing his hand frantically to hit them, suddenly a guard was bending down, Din pushed the guards around him with an unusual strength, the adrenaline was fueling his muscles in a way he had never experienced before.
He was free now, the Mandalorian was on his knees trying to remove his vibroknife from the injured guard to inflicted him more damage. Din took the darksaber in his hands and ignited it, he pointed the blade at the man's neck and moved his hand up, the helmet was flying off his head.
"Touch my son and you're dead." He said gritting his teeth. That was it, two guards were throwing themselves over the mandalorian and one of them was pressing his knee against the back of his neck, pinning him against the floor.
Miko was clasping Din's arm "Go inside now, Mand'alor, we got this! Please, go!"
Din was looking around for Luke and Grogu "Where are they? Miko!" He put his hand on his guard's arm "Where's my son?"
"They are already inside, Your Highness."
Din looked at the guard on the floor, he was wounded under his armpit.
"Dammit, Miko, help me!" They took the guard, hoisting him up and crossed the main entrance, Luke was holding Grogu, staring at him, baby was facing the Jedi's chest. Din was relieved.
Then Paz joined them "Vod!" He was putting his hand on Din's pauldron. Din rolled his shoulder back aggressively.
"What the kriff was that? You sent them to die out there! I don't need guards! I have this damned sword to face them! Bring them, bring them all!" Din was walking back to the street.
"Vod! What are you doing?" Paz tried to grab Din's arm, but Din dodged him and then he was pushing Paz against the wall. "Stop it, Djarin!"
"No more casualties, Paz! Look at him!" He pointed at the guard on the floor "Look at him!" Miko was giving orders to take the man to the infirmary.
"Stop it, Djarin!" Paz said again, and Din punched the wall at the side of his head. "Dank farrik!" He put his hands around Din's neck and hit him with his helmet right on his visor, they were holding each other by their arms now, pushing each other against the walls of the corridor. Miko put his arm in front of Luke and Grogu when he realized the baby was sobbing.
Suddenly, Paz was floating in the air, Din tried to anchor him but he was out of his reach.
Din snapped his head to the side "Luke! Don't!" He stared at the Jedi's face.
Luke walked towards him, closing the distance between them "It's not me, Din."
Din looked down at Grogu in Luke's arms, he was panting and frowning behind his helmet "Grogu, no!"
"No, Din, wait... Look." Luke's face was irradiating serenity. Din looked back at Paz, who was still in the air.
Grogu was narrowing his eyes and raising his little hand up. Paz nodded "I'm sorry, Grogu, put me down." Grogu moved his little hand and Paz was descending gently until his feet were on the ground again.
Din shifted his gaze from Paz to Grogu. Then he looked back at Paz "Are you okay, vod?"
Paz nodded "Yes, I can't explain it but I don't feel anger anymore." Luke was smiling, caressing Grogu's arm. "But, the baby could be dangerous..." He added.
"He's learning right from wrong, he won't hurt you if he could avoid it." Luke said moving closer to Paz.
Din remembered the last time Grogu used the force against one of his friends when the kid thought Cara Dune was hurting Din and he choked her with a mischievous expression and a clenching fist.
This is Luke's work, this is their training. Six months ago Grogu would have hurt Paz. Din was so proud.
"Grogu only tried to pull you apart from his father to send you comfort through the force, I can see it worked." Luke explained as Din took Grogu in his arms and he was pressing his helmet against the baby's forehead.
"Kriff! That was terrifying kid, but hey, you did good." Paz said patting Grogu's head, Din looked at him tilting his head up. "I'm sorry, vod."
Din nodded "Yeah, me too."
"We need to discuss things, I'm going to the council room, you should come right away." He looked at Luke "Maybe we can provide you some protection jetii. Miko, come here."
Luke stared at Din "I don't think that's necessary."
"You're going to stay in Mand'alor's chamber with the kid, we need to secure you both." Paz insisted.
Miko was now helmetless and he stood beside Luke, when Luke looked at him he gasped, Miko was narrowing his eyes. They stared at each other, Luke frowned and then he looked at Din with a scowl on his face. Oh, fuck! What now? Din realized he was in trouble.
"It's like looking at yourself in a mirror, right jetii?" Paz laughed, then he was grabbing Din by his arm "Come on, vod. Take them to your room and I'll wait for you right here."
"Alright." Din looked at Luke "Come with me-" Cyar'ika. He didn't say it.
I can't call you that in front of my people, please understand.
"Come, Luke." He said instead.
Luke was avoiding his visor, walking beside him. Miko was following them. Luke looked at him over his shoulder. Miko didn't stop his pace. When they were in front of Din's bedroom door, Din looked back at his guard "Miko, wait here, please."
"Yes, Your Highness." He bowed.
They were in the living room, Din closed the door behind him "Come here, cyar'ika." He was holding Grogu with one arm and outstretching the other to reach out to take Luke in a hug. Luke complied and pressed his body against them, caressing Grogu's head. "I'm so sorry, how are you? Huh?"
"I'm fine." His voice reverberating inside Din's chest "Grogu is fine, too. But, it was intense, you know."
Din nodded "Take my helmet off, please."
Luke tossed his head back to look at him, he removed the helmet. Din pressed a kiss on Grogu's head and then he brought Luke's face against his own with one hand, he closed his eyes and kissed him on his cheek, then he brushed his lips over Luke's. "I need you both. I need you, Luke."
Luke nodded "I need you too."
Stop it, cyare. You're killing me.
Din sighed staring at his blue eyes "I'm going out now, stay safe. Miko is gonna be with you, so, please protect him." He smirked.
Luke chuckled "He's gonna be safe with us." He looked down "Go now, we'll wait for you."
Din stared at him before putting his helmet on and walked out of the room. Miko was right outside. "Miko, you know what to do, but the time you stay here, you do whatever the Jedi says, understood?"
"Yes, Mand'alor." Miko was walking towards Luke and Grogu, Din tried to assess Luke's face before closing the door, he looked upset now that Din wasn't in front of him.
He heard the Jedi asking Miko to put his helmet on. Indeed, he hated Miko. Din was in trouble.

Chapter 4: Infatuation
Din felt like his stomach was turning into a rock, Grogu's suffering was the worst thing in the world to him.
"Oh, but the time he spent with you... Oh boy, that's very detailed." Luke tried to change Din's humour.
Din chuckled "Oh... He showed you. What did he show you?"
"Something about a krayt dragon, maybe." The little Jedi was a total tease right now, pulling faces and closing his eyes. He even jostled Din in the process, and Din was delighted. "Something about a mudhorn's egg... And Jawas disappearing like in a magic trick." And he rested his hand on Din's thigh plate.
Grogu was sitting on the table as Din carefully fixed the baby's robes, they were white and purple and the colours suited Grogu so well. Din smiled, his heart was full of joy "Look at you, little womp rat, you look like a Coruscant brat." Grogu cooed merrily.
A knock on the door.
Din answered the door. The little Jedi was in front of them "Mand'alor! Grogu!" He smiled "Are you ready for a little walk?
No, Din wasn't. He hated the idea, but it meant spending some time with the Jedi and he really liked the idea. "Yes" Naturally, he lied.
When they were walking down the street, Din was getting really anxious, the three of them were surrounded by people, he was desperate to secure Grogu into his arms, thinking of all the moves he needed to make in order to draw his blaster and shoot the kriff out of anyone who tried something against the child.
Luke didn't notice, or so it seemed, he was happily telling them about the different street levels, the artificial light, the stores and the food, the attractions, like some weird calamari ballet with fluids, Din didn't understand that part.
Then Luke looked at a bookstore and there it was, an old propaganda pin-up, a young Luke Skywalker in his orange jumpsuit. "Oh, for force's sake. I can't believe it." He said under his breath as he covered his face with one hand.
Din stared at the picture. It was Luke, of course, a different Luke, but still. But he looked so young, and tiny, his hair was lighter and he was so gorgeous. Orange was his colour, Din thought as a smile appeared on his face. But then he realized that there was a huge difference between that boy and the man standing beside him, his eyes looked sad now. "You were a fly boy?"
Luke snorted "Hey! I was a pilot! I'm still are. Thank you for selling me so short!" He laughed.
"Sorry, mandalorian things." He was a little embarrassed. "How old were you there?" He asked pointing at the picture.
"I was nineteen."
And now Din felt like a creep. He was finding a nineteen years old boy attractive? "How old are you?"
Luke smiled "Twenty-nine". Good, Din thought in relief.
Then people were pushing against them and Din couldn't help it anymore "I hate it here!"
"I must confess that I hate Coruscant too." Luke said, then he looked at Grogu "Mand'alor, what if we ordered some food and went back to the apartment, I bet Grogu is starving."
Din agreed.
So the Jedi went to eat with his sister, and Din appreciated that so he could spend some time with his kid. But he asked the Jedi to come by later, the Jedi accepted.
"Mand'alor!" He exclaimed when Din opened the apartment's door.
"Grogu's sleeping." He said.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Luke whispered, then.
They talked about the force, balance, the dark side, attachments and Din's brain was asking for a break.
They were sitting on a couch, few inches apart. Din found that very comfortable.
"Grogu's special, unique. I should thank you for bringing him to me, for protecting him the way you did." Luke said looking at Din's visor.
Din was melting, he shook his head. "I would do it again... That little womp rat."
"Oh, that! You can't call him that, he asked me to call him womp rat so many times! It's ridiculous! I mean, he's so cute. And those rats are as ugly as Tatooine, they belong together." Luke closed his eyes and waved both hands in the air.
"You've been on Tatooine?"
"I grew up there." What? Din thought. "I lived there till I was nineteen." What?! Din couldn't believe it. This refined man grew up on that ashtray? Impossible. "Then the imps killed my family, my aunt and my uncle. They raised me."
"You were a foundling." Din said surprised. "I'm sorry about your family." And then he understood the reason of the sadness in Luke's eyes. Or at least he thought he did.
"Thank you. Well, my family lived here on Coruscant before I was born. The Jedi temple was on Coruscant too. I hate this place though. That's why I located my temple on a quiet planet." Luke told him.
"Where?"
"Yavin IV. It kind of reminds me of Dagobah. And of Yoda." Luke smiled with sad eyes.
Yoda? A girlfriend? Din asked to himself "Who's Yoda?"
"My late Master, he taught me about philosophy and balance, I want to give Grogu what he gave me." Then he looked into Din's visor again "He was the same species as Grogu."
Oh, THAT Yoda. The one that Ahsoka Tano told him about. "Do you think... This Yoda could be related to Grogu?" Din asked genuinely.
Luke sighed and frowned "I really don't know."
"Can you... you know, use the force to know about that?" Din insisted.
"I've already tried. But Grogu's memories are blurred, he remembers Yoda, but they're only images, he doesn't remember his time at the Jedi temple quite well, and I think it's because of what happened, you know, the Great Jedi Purge. He's a survivor, Mand'alor."
Din looked down, but he didn't react, then he looked back at Luke's face, not making a move to remove his hand.
"That kid is happy because of you. You're a good man, Mand'alor." Luke's eyes were so soft and bright. And the moment so intimate that Din felt how wrong that name sounded coming from Luke's lips.
"Please, don't call me that."
"Oh, I'm sorry, I offended you." Luke said in confusion as he removed his hand from Din.
"No, it's not that. I mean, you can call me Mando, my friends call me Mando. Call me Mando."
"Oh..." Luke was smiling so bright that Din was urged to touch those lips but he repressed himself. "I'd love to." He said and looked around "Well, it's too late, I promised Leia to rescue her from some thirsty politicians, she'd kill me if I didn't show up." And he stood up. Din did the same.
They were standing in front of each other, not making a move. Luke was looking up at Din's visor, Din was looking down at Luke's face. Luke sighed and closed his eyes. "Goodnight Mando." He opened his eyes but looked into Din's chest, avoiding his eyes behind the visor.
"Goodnight Jedi." He opened the door.
"Oh, that's not fair. I called you Mando a second ago, you should call me by my name." He was pouting and Din thought that it was kriffing adorable.
"Goodnight Luke." And the sound of Luke's name through his modulated voice made him feel like a teenager carving his crush's name on a tree.
Luke smiled "That's nice." He said as he walked away.
Din didn't close the door and kept staring at Luke's back while he was walking down the corridor for a few seconds. Then he came back to the apartment. He leaned against the door, arms crossed over his chest.
He was out of control. Now he knew that. He knew this Jedi was getting under his skin. But he couldn't be so selfish, so foolish, this was Grogu's Master, he wouldn't do anything that could put Grogu in danger. Besides, this little Jedi wouldn't be interested in someone like Din.
You are dreaming, Din. He said to himself, Luke Skywalker is out of your league.

Chapter 10: Epiphany
Din's breath was uneven. The warrior in front of him and against his body was captivating. "You're unbelievable, Luke." He said between hot puffs.
"Why?" He asked frowning. Din noticed confusion in Luke's face.
"I mean, you're incredibly good." Din explained.
Luke pulled away from Din with a smile on his face. "Don't sell yourself short, for a starter you're very good already."
The Mudhorn broke Mandalore's atmosphere, minutes after Din asked for permission to land. Two ships. Not only one. The council was informed about it and everybody was impatiently waiting for them.
Bo-Katan was standing in front of the Mudhorn, Din walked in her direction, Paz, two more Mandalorians and five foundlings behind him. "Kryze, this is Paz Vizsla, he's..."
Bo-Katan didn't let him finish "Vizsla?!" She said with eyes wide open and moving them away from Din to look at Paz. "A Vizsla... Would you show me your face?" She asked narrowing her eyes, showing that serpent's face that Din unfortunately knew so well.
"Kryze? Is it?" Paz came close to her, towering over the Mandalorian woman. "I won't show my face ever, I don't know who you are but I know one thing, you have a lot of nerve talking directly to me." Then, both closed the distance between them and they were facing each other in a very pugnacious way.
Din placed his arm between both of them "Hey, hey..."
"Don't touch me Mand'alor!" Bo-Katan said, she looked disturbed.
"I didn't touch you. Listen, I found our people. Look at them." Din tried to soothe her.
"These are not our people, these are your people." She replied. "And that clan, Vizsla..." She looked into Paz visor "You should honour your clan, but you chose being a child of the watch!"
"Watch it, woman! Djarin, the kriff is this?! I came here because of the foundlings, I thought you told me you were The Mand'alor! Who's this dinii?" Paz was yelling, standing close to Din, hitting him on his chest plate with his vembrace.
"I'm not crazy! And you don't hit our Mand'alor like that! At least you're ready to face the death penalty." Bo-Katan sounded deranged.
"Yes! I'm The Mand'alor! And... No! He won't face death penalty, because I'm proposing him as the seventh member of the council." Din stated.
"Don't make me laugh." Bo-Katan didn't seem ready to let it go.
"This is the way. This is how we rebuild Mandalore." Din looked away from Bo-Katan and at the crowd of mandalorians behind them, they were amused by the way the woman defied their Ruler. "Axe, Reeves, take the foundlings to the dinner room, feed them, and fix eight beds, ask them if they want to share their room or not. And tomorrow you should prepare three bungalows for all of them."
They took the foundlings with them and Koska invited the other two mandalorians to follow them into the building.
Din walked through the mandalorians gathered in front of the main entrance, traders, farmers, engineers, professors, foundlings, all of them staring at their Mand'alor, while Paz walked behind him. Din looked over his shoulder and he could have sworn that Bo-Katan looked satisfied, with a smirk on her face.
When they both were walking down the corridor Paz stopped Din by grabbing his forearm "Vod. Who's that?"
Din looked around and placing both hands on his hips he sighed "That's the one that was supposed to be The Mand'alor, but she lost the darksaber some time ago, and now she won't take it back, I asked her to take it from me several times. She doesn't want to."
Paz crossed his arms over his chest and he lifted his chin up without breaking eye contact with Din "Vod, this is even worse than I thought. She dared to talk to you like that in front of our people, and now you're telling me she's some kind of abdicated ruler?"
Din shrugged.
"No, listen, those mandalorians were impressed by her, by her boldness, I could tell. Vod, you may have a problem here." Paz had a point. In fact Din had sensed the same.
Din tried to not think about it, leaning against the wall.

Present
The second day of their trip to Mandalore, Luke and Grogu trained in the ways of the force. The kid levitated Luke without sweating, but he was tired by the time he was done with lunch.
Din and Luke used Grogu's naptime to spar. Luke was wearing a grey tank top and some baggy pants. Unfortunately, Din still found him very hot.
But the minute they were both holding their sables, Din got into the training, so focused on his own moves, trying to avoid Luke's attacks.
"You're scared of your sable, Mando." Luke told him tilting his head to the side. "May I?" Din nodded. Luke approached Din to help him by putting his hand around his fist, standing behind him. "Think about the way you feel your blaster in your hand." He made a pause. "Tell me now, how does your blaster feel in your hand?"
"It feels... Natural." Din hesitated.
"Now, tell me, how does the darksaber feel in your hand?" Luke asked him.
"It feels awkward..."
"Now lose the grip a bit, relax, think about the way you hold your blaster, give this saber the chance to know you. Breathe in. Breathe out." Luke was so soothing. Din felt lighter when Luke moved away from him. "Now, look at me, think about the times you wielded a sword. Use those movements, you're gonna be fine."
It was better now. But the way the sabers vibrated and the sound they made whenever Luke or Din swung them was distracting. Din hated it.
"Focus, Mando, you're doing good, and your stance is perfect." Luke encouraged him.
Then Luke made a move around Din, so fast that Din's arm twisted behind his back. "That hurts, Jedi! This is my first attempt!"
"Sorry, you're right. It's just, you're very good, I didn't notice. I... Uh... I got a little carried away." Now he was in front of Din again, he outstretched his arm and Din blocked his lightsaber with his darksaber. "Good! Good!"
Din kept blocking Luke's strikes until he couldn't take it anymore. The darksaber rolled over the floor, extinguished. Luke was holding Din against the wall, staring into his visor, his eyes darkened, while the green blade pointed to Din's neck under the helmet. "You're mine, Mando."
Din followed Luke's moves with his eyes, still leaning against the wall. He couldn't do anything but admire this warrior before him. "Need to admit, I worship you already." Where did that come from? Din was flushing behind the helmet.
Luke laughed fondly "Then you're gonna love our training sessions. What do you say? Again?"
Din was in need of a break, for twelve hours if that was possible. His body was in pain, Vizsla was right, he was getting old. "Maybe later." He said leaning forward.
"Alright, I'm taking a shower then." Luke nodded and then he walked away.
Din sat on the floor with his head hanging down and his elbows propped on his thighs. The Jedi was a dream, a Mandalorian dream, in every sense of the word.
He looked down at his hand "Give this saber the chance to know you." He remembered Luke told him, and Din was now considering to give Luke the chance to know him as well.
