Guda: a medieval self-portrait

"The first category of figures we have considered shows the artist present in the work or in the process of creating it. To that category, we add a second type of portrait or self-portrait, in which the artist beseeches a favorable judgment for him-/herself after the work is completed.

Such is the case with the famous signed self-portrait of Guda, who represents herself within a collection of homilies in an initial D[ominus] for the octave of the Pentecost. The inscription reads: “guda peccatrix mulier scripsit q[ue] pinxit h[un]c librum (Guda, a sinful woman, wrote and painted this book).” Of the seven initials in the manuscript, this D is one of only two that contain figures. The other historiated initial comes at folio 196, the opening of the Assumptio Mariae, and contains a portrait of the virgin identified as Maria Virgo. The other five initials display dragons, interlaces, ribbons, or spirals.

Guda represented herself firmly grasping the initial with her left hand and raising her right in a gesture of salutation and expectation. I would argue that Guda carefully and consciously chose to be here. The initial opens the ninth homily of St. John chrysostom, the Sermo beati iohannes episcopi de david ubi goliad immanem hostem devicit (Sermon of the blessed Bishop John, on when David overcame the monstrous enemy Goliath), which explains the election of David. The homily also offers an occasion to meditate on the gifts of the Holy Spirit and its role in comforting the soul. In short, Guda has chosen the perfect spot in which to await the Second Coming of Christ, and this is why she represents herself as a sinner, whose activity as an artist should count in her favor at the end of time.

Guda’s self-representation in this way is analogous to the scene the scribe Swicher has staged (for the reader?) in the frontispiece of his copy of isidore of Seville’s Etymologies. Swicher’s author portrait is most original. In the upper register, Isidore of Seville is depicted in conversation with Bishop Braulio of Zaragoza, the patron of the Etymologies. In the lower register, Christ in propria persona presides at the scribe’s last judgment. Two angels busy themselves at a balance in which is weighed the very manuscript Swicher copied. The work of the scribe counts as a work of virtue: a third angel takes Swicher’s soul away through a thick cloud, whereas the devil turns around empty-handed. The Titulus attests to this: "O god, deign to have mercy on this wretched scribe. Do not consider the weight of my faults. Small though the good things may be, let them be exalted over the bad. Let night give way to light; let death itself give ground to life.”

Guda and Swicher make use of the same patterns of visibility and those patterns are not gender-specific. In both cases, the artists stage their humility and represent their belief that they might reach the heavenly kingdom through the artistic work they have done."

The F/GO Ooku event discourse is back again, so once again I need to complain about how all the complaints about people wanting a happier ending for Kama *in this specific event* are dumb because the characterization the writers committed to for her makes such a happier ending completely unfeasible without the cast doing a spontaneous 180-degree “if you just tell the villain ‘No!’ they’ll stop and be your friend : )” OOC nonsense turn. Kama’s redemption arc works fine in post-Ooku interludes and events, where she’s actually cooperative and friendly to Guda and co. enough that said redemption arc has room to Start and Exist, but in Ooku specifically? The event where Kama is nothing but a horrible rotten asshole with no redeeming qualities? Absolutely not. Not possible without overhauling not just the event, but Kama herself as a character.

The problem is that you can’t give Kama a happy redemption arc ending when Kama’s spent the whole event unironically cackling like a cartoon villain and bragging about how much she wants to destroy and ruin Guda, the rest of the cast, and the universe itself, and then actually tries to do so. Yeah, she’s got that tragic backstory of getting blasted off into space, but quite frankly the event does NOTHING to make her sympathetic beyond “tragic backstory Exists” (and as we should all know from decades of villain discourse, it takes WAY more than a tragic backstory to make a villain actually sympathetic and redeemable). She’s not written to really bond with Guda in any way, and given that damn near all of her scenes are some flavor of “Kama tries to drag Guda into depravity in order to get her Beastly schemes rolling” there’s not much of an opportunity TO have such scenes in the first place. You would have to rewrite the ENTIRE event to soften Kama as a character and insert some scenes where she stealth befriends Guda or something in order to make a “Guda offers a hand of mercy to Kama” ending feasible, because Guda during the event has no incentive to do anything other than send Kama blasting off again. Because, contrary to what their status as self insert might imply, Guda *IS* their own character, not a doormat designed to completely bow to the whims of the player. It does not matter if the Villainous Gacha Character Of The Day is your blorbo - Guda is consistently written to Do No Harm But Take No Shit, and if blorbo is trying to hurt them and their friends, they’re going to get their ass kicked. They’re more than happy to help blorbo get therapy if they get summoned to Chaldea and are confirmed On Guda’s Side, but that’s not the situation going on in the Ooku event. Guda has no reason to turn the other cheek *during the Ooku event*, because Kama *as written during the event* would just take advantage of Guda’s kindness to screw them over. She’s got no redeeming qualities during the event, and she doesn’t even WANT redemption in the first place - Kiara has to drag her ass to Chaldea Community Service to justify her summonability in-story. You’d have to completely rewrite Kama’s ENTIRE CHARACTER to justify a more sympathetic ending for her, and at that point I don’t know if that would Ship-Of-Theseus her into being a completely different character or not.

For a comparison here, think back to the CCC event. Imagine if the CCC event did to Kiara what people here keep wanting Ooku to do to Kama. Imagine if the CCC event ended with Guda going “well you tried to destroy the world, but you have a tragic backstory, so let’s be friends : )” after a whole event of Kiara torturing and murdering their allies and melting Guda to death in the first time loop all while trying to do a horny ascension. That would be a nonsense swerve, yes? That would be really shitty writing, yes? That would be kind of bananas to have happen when Kiara during the CCC event is consistently written to have no redeeming qualities and Guda’s hand of mercy has no buildup, yes? Especially when Kiara, as written in the event, would probably just use it as a chance to melt Guda to death again. Guda extending a hand of mercy to Kama in Ooku when Kama has shown zero intention or even potential of doing a heel-face turn would be similarly nonsensical, because Kama is consistently written as a cackling evil villain who gleefully tries to brainwash Guda into Tokugawaness and burn all the world’s love into nothing. Maybe if Guda had the chance to befriend Kama during the event, you could have an ending where Kama’s own growing care for Guda is what leads to her downfall, leading to her Getting Blasted Off Into Space having an actually tragic undertone and not a cartoon villain sendoff, but at that point you’re not writing Kama anymore, you’re writing Oberon.

TL;DR - Most of the complaints about Ooku’s ending are dumb and call for Kama Happy Ending without stopping to consider what that requires of Kama’s character and how the story should get there. Kama during the event is consistently characterized as an unrepentant asshole, and giving her a happy redemption arc ending would require ACTUALLY MAKING HER REDEEMABLE. Tragic backstory does not a redemption arc make, and you would need to completely rewrite both her characterization and the event plot as a whole in order to have her befriend Guda and give Guda a reason to offer her mercy. Guda cannot offer her that chance of redemption without turning into a doormat and yeeting the plot into nonsense territory - Kama’s character needs to budge first. The Ooku event’s writing is sucky, yes, but this is not a “just give it a different ending” kind of fix. You would need to completely rewrite both the event story as a whole and Kama’s entire character in order to make that different ending feasible, because there is no other ending that can work for Kama as she is written in the event besides “and then Guda and co. kick her ass”. Kama is an asshole, she’s an unrepentant asshole, she has to be dragged kicking and screaming to a redemption arc, you would have to remove damn near all of her event characterization to make her Not An Asshole in order for a mercy ending to make sense.

So, I’m not.. completely back yet. The entirety of 2021 has been a really rough year for me and I’m slowly trying to get myself back together in general). I’ve been writing bits and pieces whenever I’m in the right mindset, so content will be sparse and random. But I hope you guys enjoy what I have so far! - mod Jenn Asclepius

He never expected you to be able to cook. He knew that you were, in general, a very average person - a jack of all trades if you must. There was nothing that you were particularly amazing at, and nothing that you were lacking in either. But he did know that of all the skills you’ve acquired, cooking would not be considered your strong suit. So when you had first asked him what kinds of food he was interested in, his curiosity was immediately piqued, but so was his concern.

He didn’t know what to expect. Would there be a fire alarm going off later in the day? Would you end up attempting to force feed him some sort of concoction that was nothing similar to anything edible in the world? Or would you somehow do some half-baked effort at his favorite dish? It was a strange predicament of his, where he was both excited and extremely terrified of what was to come from your cooking abilities.

Yet he was pleasantly surprised when he saw the various dishes from his childhood spread out before him. While they weren’t anything fancy, he could tell from the table before him that you had put all your effort into this. There were some bandaids on your hands, and while you had tried to hide it behind your back, Asclepius was always alert about how you were treating your body. He couldn’t help but shake his head and let out a soft sigh - not one of exasperation, but fondness.

He didn’t quite have the words to express that he was pleasantly surprised by your gift to him, and he simply took a seat at the dining table and began to sample each dish. Each one was familiar and spread warmth throughout his body. He doesn’t recall the last time he had any of these dishes, and honestly, he’s amazed that you were able to recreate it with such accuracy despite the fact that you’ve never even gone outside of your own hometown before the whole Chaldea thing happened.

He does ask you how you managed to cook all of this on your own, and he could tell from the way you chuckled and took a step back that you clearly did get some help. You didn’t reveal who, and Asclepius doesn’t pry any further. He was simply content with the knowledge that you did all of this for him. Of course, while he is enjoying his meal now, he does plan on double checking your hands later to make sure you applied the correct ointment to prevent any scarring from the cuts and potential oil splashes.

Okita Alter

There was nothing that Okita Alter wouldn’t eat. It was almost terrifying how much she was willing to consume. When you had first asked the original Okita, even she had a difficult time pinpointing what her Alter form enjoyed as food. Every time Okita had seen Alter in the cafeteria, Alter was eating or trying something new. There was no such thing as consistency. ChaCha and Nobbu would tell you the same thing, both of them vaguely confused about the reality upon being asked the question. How was it possible for Okita Alter to eat so much and yet not have a set favorite?

This doesn’t deter you at all though. If Okita Alter doesn’t have anything that she likes particularly over the other, at the very least you can just make her everything that you know she’s enjoyed, and at the moment, it’s Japanese cuisine.

You’ve seen how Okita Alter would eat more whenever there was any type of Japanese food offered at the dining table, and you had no qualms with making more for her as a gift of gratitude for all her help in the most recent Guda Guda shenanigans - even if her sword did cause some problems for you guys. You just wanted to show your appreciation towards her for always working so hard to protect you at all times.

It was difficult trying to cook her for her without her finding out. It was supposed to be a surprise, yet with how frequently Okita Alter entered the cafeteria and oftentimes the kitchen looking for a snack, it was hard to hide what you were doing. In the end, you had to go find a private kitchen that Director Goredolf used just so she wouldn’t find out. In return, you did have to share some of the food with him.

When the day finally came for you to share your cooking with Okita Alter, you were more than relieved that you had cooked enough for 5 people. After all, the Guda Guda family was always lingering about each other, and this time was no exception. Both Okitas and Nobunaga and ChaCha were all in the same room having their afternoon tea. Everyone but Alter knew what was coming and when Alter saw the food all neatly packed into bento boxes being carried in by you and Ryoma, she was stunned into silence. She had no idea that all of this was for her and from you, and she stammered her thanks before digging in.

You were praised and complimented all around by everyone and Alter was practically hugging you by now. She was so thankful and happy that you had worked this hard for her, and in between thanking you, she kept asking you why you would put in so much effort for her. But of course you would, Okita Alter has been here to support you through so much, this was only a small portion of the gratitude you felt towards her.

Or, I somehow pulled Okita Alter on the first ten pull I did on the Guda Guda 3 rerun banner (I was actually aiming for the Craft Essences, so the gold Alter Ego card kinda shocked me after all the pain that was getting Enkidu and Ishtar), and with her now sitting at Level 84 in my Chaldea (as of this writing this notes section/intro at 11:06 pm on 4/12/2021, after farming Embers for 3-4 hours on Golden Apples/Saint Quartz), I wanted to write this bit before bed.

I don't know all of Majiin's story yet, since I wasn't able to play the event's original run where she debuted, but I hope the emotions here are about right.

"YEW BOW!"

Vy watched as Robin Hood's Noble Phantasm went off, incinerating the last Divine Arm of Dawn with plumes of purple smoke. Once the air cleared, she felt herself quietly exhale.

Another farming bit done.

"Battle finished, Senpai," Mash said faithfully, taking her Ortinax goggles off her eyes to rest them on top of her head. The sparkle in her purple eyes was all the more obvious thanks to the action, further accentuating the warm smile on her face. "Embers are all collected."

Vy stretched her arms in the air, standing on her tiptoes while nodding. Standing as a commander of Servants, while doable, still took something in social energy. Even if it was for the experience, it didn't help that wearing an outfit that supposedly came from the Far Side of the Moon felt a bit too exposing. Maybe it was the short skirt and lack of stockings. But then again, Vy couldn't voice it. Too much worry could mean overthinking it to the point of broadcasting to the other Servants. And the last few times that happened were embarrassing enough with Dr. Roman still around. So instead of that, she said, "Aye aye. Thank you for the support, beloved kouhai."

Mash blushed a little at the title, but still nodded with the same warm smile. "I-It's the least I can do, Senpai."

"And I'm always grateful for that, Mash." Vy shot her a smile back once she felt that telling crack in her spine, rocking her head back and forth. To everyone else, she took a breath before opening her mouth. "Good job, everyone!"

Robin Hood, the MVP of the quest this time, shot Vy a wry grin in return, saluting her with one pointer finger. "Getting to fight on the front lines is at least easier now," he quipped. "But give me a break sometimes, Master."

"Oh, shushie, big Robin, you have more energy than me and I'm the workaholic." Once his green eye was boring holes into her forehead, though, Vy amended it with a more kind, less sardonic, "If it helps, I'll give you a chocolate chip muffin later?"

The May King merely grinned. Before he could say anything, though, Ishtar let out a haughty laugh, hovering over Robin's head with Maana as she put a hand to her chin. "How delightfully droll, green Archer! All this work for a muffin! Nonsense! As the Goddess of Love, I could certainly help you with whatever thoughts you have lingering in your mind instead—"

"Sorry, little lady. Compared to my little sparrow's gifts, that offer is going to get a hard pass. Plus, you're not my type."

Ishtar wilted as soon as she bloomed, Maana descending to near ground level as a result. Nearby, Vy could hear Mash laugh sheepishly, adjusting her hold on her shield as the last member of their party made themselves known with a soft sigh at Vy's other side.

The back of a gloved hand brushed Vy's free one, the one that didn't have the Command Spells, and Vy tried not to flinch away at the new sensation. Sure, the being known as Okita Souji Alter was still someone Vy was trying to grasp in emotional understanding. Even when being close to Final Ascension, there was something about Okita's eyes lingering on Vy's form the entire time they went about farming for the Embers Okita needed that was a little... different from the other Servants in Chaldea's roster. And yes, Okita wasn't the first Alter Vy had ever contracted with. Saber Alter had that honor bagged. It didn't make the constant surveillance any less... strange to think about, really.

But Okita had still answered her call when Vy wasn't expecting it. More so after her original self and some others didn't. And considering the Lostbelts and what would come, all Vy could feel herself doing in response to the small touch was reach over and grab Okita's fingers before the Alter Ego could lurch away.

"Majiin-san?"

"Wh-What is it, Master?" Okita Alter said after a second of consideration, her pale yellow — almost silver, really, when looking up close — eyes automatically locking onto Vy as she tilted her head downwards. They were close enough to where Vy could see her own image reflected in Okita's darkened irises. "Is there something wrong?"

"N-No no, nothing really." Vy glanced down at their entangled hands, feeling the thoughts rush through her at that moment. "I just..."

Calloused. Signs of bruises. How long had she been—

Before me, where had she—

Okita Alter's hands reminded her of Archer EMIYA's.

To Vy, Okita Alter's touch felt like Shirou's.

A wind passed between them. Vy wasn't sure if it was from the simulator or her brain making up the sensation.

"...Vy?" Okita whispered.

Anxiety was bubbling up in her throat, but Vy still raised her head and looked up at the taller Alter Ego with what she hoped was a genuine smile. She couldn't help but tug and squeeze the Servant's fingers a bit tighter as she said in a softer voice, "Are you having fun working with us, Okii-san?"

Okita Alter blinked once. Twice. Thrice. Then many times over, as if gears were turning in her head before her eyes widened to the size of plates. "Okii...san?"

"You're the only Okita I ever got to know," Vy said with a shy laugh, doing her best to ignore the eyes of the other Servants while speaking her mind. "So, Okii-san. And, I know you're not at full power yet, but, let me try again..." Vy gulped, finishing with a softer, "Are you happy right now?"

Am I helping you enough like how I did with Shirou, Mash, and big Robin?

Okita Alter stared at Vy for a while. The attention was enough to make Vy tempted to run, to want to let go of Okita's hand and hide her face away, but something inside of her was forcing her to stay still.

Silvery-yellow eyes reflected Vy's image for what felt like a long time before they closed, a soft sigh on Okita's lips.

"Okii-san? Um. Sh-Should I have not gone with that name? Should we go farm a bit more instead? O-Or should I go cook some oden when we—"

Instead of a verbal answer, Okita's long sword had disappeared into visible sparkles, and before Vy knew it, hands were reaching under her elbows, winding around her waist and—

"W-Wah!"

Despite being lifted up in the air and feeling very much like a teddy bear as a result (what was it with Servants either headpatting or hugging her like this?), Vy couldn't miss the warm solemn smile on Okita's face. "O-Okii-san?"

"...My anchor, my lord, my Master," Okita said in slow, gentle succession, her hold on Vy's figure almost considerate as she slowly brought her arms in to let Vy rest her hands on Okita's shoulders. "Why worry about that?" A nose gently brushed hers, sparking a sudden giggle from Vy's lips at the ticklish feeling as Okita smiled again. "Believe me, my shooting star." A shaky breath brushed Vy's cheeks as one of Okita's hands rested on the back of Vy's head, barely missing her ponytail and almost cradling her as their foreheads touched. Something sang through their Master-Servant mental connection.

"Okii-san—?"

"I honestly wish this kind of happiness could go on forever."

...Oh.

It was telling that none of the other Servants were saying anything.

Vy still raised her hands to wrap them around Okita's neck, pushing Okita's forehead back with a bit of force. Not enough to cause pain, but enough for a reminder. "We can just make more, Okii-san," Vy whispered, closing her eyes. "Even when this happiness goes away, we can still make more. Whether it's through memories or spending time together, happiness can happen. As long as we're alive, we can do it."

Once Vy opened her eyes, Okita was already in the process of putting her back down to Earth, that same solemn smile on her face. "Of course, Master."

It felt like another promise Vy knew she had to keep.

"Sheesh, even when possessed by a goddess, you're still so rude..."

Vy watched from afar as the other Servants slowly filed into the Novum Chaldea Dining Hall for dinner, her back against one of the hallway walls as her mental battery sputtered.

Maybe I should take a break from Ember Gathering for a while—

A soft whish of the air was all the signal she had before the scent of wood and smoke graced her nose. Coincidentally, a gloved hand rested on top of her head as a part of something green shaded half of her vision.

"...Robin?"

"You could go join them," Archer said softly. "You don't have to stay here, Vy."

"...Later." Vy tried to hold back a yawn. When it became obvious Robin Hood was staring holes into her head, though, she quietly amended the situation with a tiny, "When I have more energy, big Robin. Kinda operating on low social battery at the moment."

Plus Okii-san apparently hugs harder than most people, it seems.

The hand on her head patted her hair almost immediately. "Fine fine."

You should let yourself rest more before you try to take care of others, Master.

"Just, um. Big Robin?"

The headpatting stopped for a second. "What is it, little sparrow?"

As much as her heart was protesting at the selfishness of her brain, Vy still found herself admitting, "...Could I just stay with you for a bit? Don't wanna move for a while..."

Silence. Then, Robin Hood said in the most deadpan voice possible, "That sounds like you need a nap more than anything, Vy."

Vy tried not to grumble, ducking her head. She tried not to fidget once Robin's other hand reached up to her ponytail, undoing her hair tie to let all the long locks flow freely. "I know, I know... I love you too, Robin, just, less quip, more hug..."

Robin Hood paused, long enough for Vy to feel something in the air shift between them, before the hand on top of her head tugged her one way, enough for Vy's shoes to scuff the sides of the wall. In spite of the force, all Vy could do was blearily blink as soon as a faint kiss was pressed to her forehead.

Huh? "Robin...?"

"You selfless Master," Robin Hood muttered against the crown of her hair, arms winding around her waist to pull her to his chest. "Rest more for our sakes too, won't you? Killing yourself won't help anyone."

"I-I'm not killing myself when it's helping all of you find better things in life..."

Robin Hood sighed. Another kiss pressed against Vy's head, this time more noticeable to the point of her heart skipping a beat, before the No Face May King covered her shoulders. "Silly Master. Life is more than just giving things up for 'the better.'"

What will happen to us and that 'better' if you're not around to see it?

As much as Vy wanted to, she couldn't answer. Sleep was beckoning. The last thing she remembered before the peaceful darkness came was something gently brushing her lips. For all she knew, the sensation may as well have been the beginning of a dream.

Maya Throughout the Story - Prologue

Figure it might be fun to give a little overview of what Maya's adventures were seeing as she's different from Guda and will offer a different perspective. That said, it'll most likely be largely the same and I barely remember what actually happened from Orleans-London so... yeah

Maya still more or less fills in the role of "slot filler" for Chaldea's Master Program, but her origins are largely similar to her original conception. The Hanagami family was once powerful in Japan before the Meiji era when their bloodline and magic circuits declined to near non-existence, also leading their magic crest to deteriorate. However, Maya was miraculously born with full blown magic circuits like the one her ancestors had. However for the purposes of the Grand Order timeline, she wasn't born with her Mystic Eyes.

So she has potential, but nothing really to work off of. Her family decides to keep this a secret since the spontaneous recovery of their bloodline could draw the eyes of the Association and who knows what they would do in order to find out how this happened.

Maya studied very old documents as part of her own personal training, and eventually was recruited by Chaldea as she had high potential for being a Master.

While certainly drowsy from jetlag and the altitude, she didn't fall asleep in the hall. Though she still became acquainted with Mash and Fou.

One this to note that while a good person, Maya is not necessarily as good natured as Ristuka, especially at this point. In normal circumstances, she would hear an explosion and run the other way rather than into it. However, she does have something about her that will make her act in spite of herself. An uncanny ability to read people which stems from her Origin: To Understand. Whether she wants to or not, she quickly is able to relate to other people outside of extreme circumstances. Even if she is opposed to someone, she will be able to understand them given the time, which for her is shorter than most.

So meeting Mash, she immediately sees a very sad and very lonely girl, someone who has never been able to live. And her heart went out to her, but she wasn't going to through pity at her upon the first meeting. She made a mental note to spend time with her though, whenever that could be allowed.

As for the meeting of Olga, this is where the 'understand with time' caveat comes in. If Maya doesn't want to understand, it will take her longer to truly read a person, she will just get what's on the surface. Olga is a Mage, and Maya was taught not to trust Mages. She's also not afraid to talk back to someone she sees as a haughty little brat. This of course gets her kicked out of the room and would probably get sent home packing.

But for now, it's off to her room where she meets Romani, the first time she met someone that she couldn't even get a surface read on. She saw him as a nice, well meaning layabout, but that didn't seem like the correct answer, though it also didn't seem like an act either. She was, of course, immediately fascinated by him.

And of course, she was immediately suspicious of Lev, in general. Her skill isn't clairvoyance, she had no idea that he would do anything, more just the feeling that he had ulterior motives. How grand they were was an unknown.

Then the bombs went off. In the panic, she started to run to a more secure location and hopefully evacuate. But she remembered Mash. That sweet and sad girl... she was in there. And without thinking any further, Maya turned heel and ran right into the fire.

She found Mash under the rubble and tried so desperately to free her with strength or what little Magecraft she knew, but she couldn't do anything. And so... all she could do was grant this girl's final request. She held her hand, tight, until the very end.

But it turns out... that was only the beginning.

Courtships and Fellowships Pt 3 (Sigurd, Hakuno, Gilgamesh)

Sigurd was… amazing.

Watching another sword sail through the air after being punched, Hakuno couldn’t help but to appreciate Mr. Gas Mask in his full splendor. The blue glow in his mask had made their enemies pause in the training grounds. The feral growl he’d given when the enemies had gotten close to her had even made her shiver in surprise and trepidation.

Then there was the fluid and practiced blows he dealt.

Each movement could have been choreographed for how flawless and effortless he made them look. She couldn’t help but to grab his sword after one of the waves of enemies, attempting in vain to lift the thing properly.

“It’s a little heavy,” he told her simply.

A little?

Hakuno handed him back the sword and watched him simply turn away, spinning his sword into position and lunging into another attack.

A blast through a horde of skeletons, a strike directly to the shell of a crab, a lunge and stab directly into the heart of a large chimera; Hakuno stood a length away, firing orders and supplying her own mana in bursts to help beat back their enemies.

One of the large chickens went for his back.

Hakuno launched a handful of blasts in the beast’s direction.

A great horse-like beast came charging his way.

Hakuno rushed forward, yanking the man aside before it was too late.

They came back only in the evening, when her body was weak and Sigurd had doffed his mask. The servant carried her out of the rayshift, greeting Gudako with a light nod and murmuring quietly as Hakuno tried to pull away.

“You’re exhausted,” Sigurd murmured. “Rest.”

She shouldn’t have, but…

She snuggled into his arms in one of the lounges, closing her eyes for what felt like a minute. There was a hand stroking her hair gently. When he stopped with the hair, he rubbed at her shoulders and back, all but making her lean in and hum happily.

There was something in that massaging…

“You’re a very simple master to please,” the man murmured softly.

“Shhh, don’t tell Gilgamesh.”

She’d never hear the end of it if he knew.

Rather than the peace she had now, she would be hounded endlessly by the king. He’d be giving her head pats and toying with her when he had Enkidu right there and waiting for him. The man was a fool when it came to his lover.

“Your secret is safe with me,” Sigurd assured her.

“We can train again tomorrow,” Hakuno replied. “I’ll tell Gudako that we’re going to train together a lot more often. Since my former servant has his own friend and intimate companion, it’ll be nice to have a servant to be close to.”

“You’re looking for a companion then?”

She wasn’t, but she didn’t mind working with him a lot more.

He was fun. He made her laugh. The man had a heavy blade he could easily kill others with. It made her think of him as more and more advantageous and that much more of a friend in general.

Hakuno found herself closing her eyes, letting the fatigue take her.

Then there was a pinch.

Her hand was burning, her body enveloped in a warmth that she’d never felt this well before.

Opening her eyes, she could see the wood carvings and the wolf pelts on the wall. Sigurd was asleep in a chair by the bed, his eyes perusing through the book in his hands.

“…Sigurd?”

“Ah, Master. You’ve awakened.”

His hands closed the book, setting it aside as he sat up.

“The nurse woman and Gudako said you’d need rest, but you rested for a while.

“Master?”

“You are my master, Hakuno. Gudako reviewed our training and heard your talk about wanting to be close to a servant and made the offer to me.”

Hakuno glanced down, staring at the large command seals on her hand.

“You wanted to be my servant?”

“Are you surprised?” The man smirked, pushing his glasses back up his nose. “You’d be surprised, Hakuno, but you resemble my former wife greatly. I happen to admire women who know what they want and don’t hold back for propriety’s sake.”

“What about Gudako?” Surely he would want to go back to Guda-

“She agreed to leave me to you.”

The man closed his eyes, smirking faintly.

“And I agreed to leave her. I am at your beck and call, master. Use me well. All the while, I’ll take care of you, even if I too must dress in nothing in the center of a classroom.”

Batfamily x Fate Grand Order pt. III

Members:

Yes, Oracle is a part of the Batfamily. I think of her as the sibling like cousin or partner to Nightwing.

Batgirl/Oracle

Class: Caster

Ascensions:

Summon: Batgirl costume, the purple one, and she appears to be in her teen years. 

She introduces herself as Oracle, then corrects herself as Batgirl. She panics and goes between the two for a while then calms herself and sets on Batgirl. Batgirl sticks her hand out with a bright smile on her face. When Guda takes the hand to shake, Batgirl subconsciously grips harder than normal and apologizes when she notices.

When Batgirl is hanging around the halls of Chaldea with other Servants of a similar age, one of the Robins is seen following her at times. When she looks back and sees Robin, Robin blushes and runs away.

As she interacts with other Servants, she is seen to be an intelligent woman fit for her summoned Class with skills in battle that makes her a match against Xuanzang Sanzang. When she is seen around Batman and his partners, Guda notices that even though they don’t show it, they are waiting for something.

First Ascension: Batgirl is older and calls herself Oracle. She is in a wheelchair with monitors on the sides and a movable keyboard above her lap and there is a pair of sticks holstered next to her thighs. She is wearing a purple jumper zippered down over a t-shirt containing her logo and a pair of sweatpants. Over her face is a green holographic face mask that is cut off below the nose and her hair is in a ponytail.

Guda now understands what Batman and his partners were waiting for. Oracle reassures Guda that she has already accepted this and there is no need to worry. Though Guda worries about something else bothering Oracle.

Dr. Romani (or another medical expert at Chaldea) is seen with Oracle asking many things about her physique and capabilities on and off battle for reference and to help with some of the Chaldea staff that gained similar disabilities from the explosion. She happily gives away information if it would help the staff. 

She keeps the information about her wheelchair a secret and instead gives a design to upgrade the wheelchairs at Chaldea.

Oracle is seen in the training rooms with Chiron. When asked, she says that Chiron is reminded of someone when looking at her and decided to help. She thinks he might have been mistaken for himself instead.

An interlude is unlocked after Oracle has been around for a while. It is a two-part interlude and after the first part is complete, Oracle is seen training her skills with Hans Christian Andersen and BB.

Second Ascension: Outfit is the same, yet she appears to be more mature and confident in her own abilities. There is also a mischievous gleam in her eyes.

The second part of her interlude is unlocked. After completing it, Oracle tells Guda that she feels lighter and more confident about her new position. She thanks Guda and hopes to train the other Batgirls so that they can help Chaldea like she did when she was Batgirl.

One time one of the newly summoned Servants mocked Oracle, saying that she would be useless on the battlefield. She then challenges the Servant and defeats them, but her wheelchair takes some damage and is fixed quickly with the help of Babbage and Da Vinci.

Third Ascension: Oracle’s outfit changes to a green tank top with the Bat symbol on it and a pair of blue pants. The green mask is still on, but her hair is down and there are markings on her that look similar to Magic Circuits. The monitors and keyboard on her wheelchair are gone and replaced with holographic screens and a touchscreen tablet above her lap.

She is pounced on by a mixture of people asking her if the circuits hurt. Oracle reassures everyone that the circuits don't hurt and that they are a remnant of something that happened to her.

In the simulation room, Oracle hacked into the system to show a modern-day city covered in heavy smog that blocks most of the night except for the full moon. Servants marvel at the sights this city has to offer. If one were to look above, they would see a group of people moving around the rooftops as beings of the sky instead of land.

Fourth Ascension: Oracle working with multiple monitors around her that shows the activity of the Batfam and one man in his late fifties working. Her holographic mask is gone, replaced by the Batgirl mask. As if in a nostalgic mood, Oracle is wearing a new Batgirl suit, though only the top half is seen. She is sitting in a swivel chair instead of a wheelchair.

In her free time, Oracle is seen in the library helping the librarian (If Chaldea has a library that is). She mentions that working here is nostalgic, then the subject changes when Nightwing barges into the library, and a young man in a leather jacket is seen vanishing into spirit form as Nightwing runs to his table. A few patrons demand Nightwing to leave and the young man rematerialized after he leaves.

Oracle upgraded Chaldea’s system with Babbage and one of Batman’s partners in red. Though the more delicate instruments were left alone as what the three did is more of a system update to assist Guda in the Singularities. 

During Singularities, Oracle creates a smooth pathway for her wheelchair to move around on outside of battle. In battle, she fires a laser from the back of her monitors or rushes at her opponent and hits them with her batons. In her later ascensions, she fights by shooting magically compressed data or her wheelchair reassembles into a mechanical exoskeleton on the lower half of her body which she uses to charge at the opponent with her batons and some pellets that are used in her Batgirl days.

Noble Phantasm:

As Batgirl, a clocktower materializes and she is seen near the top looking at her enemies with binoculars. She messages someone through her communicator and nods a few times. The binoculars are put away as she pulls out a grappling hook and swings towards the enemies. A smoke bomb is released and in the smoke, there is the sound of fighting and yelling. Batgirl flies away as the smoke clears and relays information to her allies.

As Oracle, a clocktower materializes with her seen through the clockface window. She is typing on her computer with the opponents and allies on the monitors. Data is gathered and sends two drones, one that drops down towards the enemies in a smokescreen and one towards the allies. In the smoke, there is yelling and an explosion, once the smoke is cleared the enemies are flustered. The other drone sends a message that gives vital information to her allies.

Give me your absolute best YGO x Fate headcanons

Ah gee since ya asked so nicely heres my convoluted crossover AU. Also this got hella long so I'll add a readmore

-the protags would all wind up at Chaldea due to being summoned by the godly powers within their own universes (Egyptian Gods, Crimson Dragon, etc.) and are tasked with helping them. Yugi is pre Ceremonial Duel (for Atem), the rest are from post series

-Gudas just so used to all the weirdness surrounding them so they take it in stride. Holmes on the other hand is losing it because he fears they may have been some type of dimensional collapse. He freaks out further when some of the kids say "oh yeah that happens all the time". Da Vinci sets them up to assist Guda since they can use magic (at least half of them use magic and the other half literally fuse with duel monsters) without needing magic circuits (which interests her GREATLY) so she introduces them as a set of new masters to help.

-their decks are still with them but now instead of being confined to the game they can actually summon them as Familiars/Phantasmals, though they can only support a few at a time.

-most, if not all servants are suspicious of these new masters (guda is my favorite master i dont need another one), but its only initial waryness since these are actual kids like Guda and they default to Parent Mode. Theyre even more surprised to learn about the exploits within their own worlds.

Now onto some of the dynamics:

-Yugi would just be happy to meet all these heroes from history. He understands the seriousness of the situation and despite his initial kickback he'd be onboard to help. Atem would take this opportunity to ask around to see if any of these ancient heroes would know him (since pre ceremonial duel he'd know who he is from Mem World). The Pharaohs (Ozy, Nito, Cleo) would be surprised about a Pharoah they've never met before, and especially his divinity since he could summon three Egyptian Gods to aid him. He was from 3000 years in the past so Egypt was beginning in its decline, so such a modern (relatively) Pharoah holding such power would shock them, though in the end Ozymandias would still declare him one of his friends and theyd get along. Yugi would leave the Puzzle with the Pharoahs so they could speak while he went around meeting a bunch of the heroes. He'd love to play with some of the kids though he has earned his fair share of ire since the King of Games never loses on Game Night, Poker Night, or any other type of games. Yugi has more supportive abilities in his skillset for the ourposes of battle, while Atem can more freely use his shadow magic since he's being supplied.

-Judai is more nonplussed than anything. He was already wandering the world so for him this is just another checkpoint. He finds the ability to summon his monsters as familiars more convebiant than anything since he could already speak to them. Many of the magic users are particularly interested in his ability to talk to spirits since its a rare ability in general and usually limited to one type of phantasmal, not to mention empathetic abilities on their own are somewhat unheard of in Nasuverse. Yubel is a protective force around him and for combat training scenarios shes extremely hard to get around since her deflection ability, while hard to maintain when Yubel uses her final form, is pretty much on par with Lord Camelot in terms of defense. He's generally friendly but comes off as rude sometimes due to his general nonchalance. Gets along especially well with some of the more volatile servants like Berserkers and Avengers since his empathetic abilities are soothing to them.

-Yusei is cautious and guarded here. He has responsibilities in his own world he'd want to get back too, but doesn't have it in him to just leave. His D-Wheel somehow came along (Yuya shivers in the distance) with him, so Da Vinci did the only reasonable thing upon seeing a miniature perpetual motion machine and tried to impound it immediately for study. Yusei was happy to share his info and skills on Momentum and implementing it into Chaldeas energy systems, something that had Tesla and Edison proud since one so young was already (but only barely) supassing AC and DC. Holmes was also extremely interested in Clear Mind and the Crimson Dragin, since Yusei managed to consolidate his own concentration into pure evolutionary energy and may have accidentally interacted with an elder god in the process (kinda like Holmes). Yusei assures him the Crimson Dragon isn't evil and that its called Quetzalcoatl, which has Fate Quetz coming in and asking about herself, further complicating Yusei's confusion on the Crimson Dragon. For combat, he starts off supportive by swarming his field with low power monsters before suddenly summoning a more powerful one. With Over Top Clear Mind they become even more powerful and evolve on their own, so Stardust can become Shooting, but summoning Quasar is very dangerous since its extremely powerful but taxxing.

-Yuma is absolutely excited. Astral not so much. "Astral these are literal HEROES how can you not be excited!?" "Idk probably the part where they'll kill us if we take a wrong step?". Yuma loves to hang around servants like Drake, Shiki and Beowulf, and loves swapping stories of their adventures. Abigail heard about aliens and wonders if Yog Soghoth is an alien, but Yuma tells her that the Astrals and Barians are not like Yog Soggoth, even if Don Thousand as described kinda sounds like him. Astral can be seen since since Heroic Spirits are consolidations of magic while Astral was basically an energy being of the same type, and does float through the halls, occasionally scaring someone by mistake. He does get along with a mysterious woman in a kimono who seems to appear in the twilight hours, but he cant ever really remember her face. In combat Astral and Yuma can do their usual combination form which causes their Numbers to automatically Rank Up upon summoning, the higher the form the further they can rank.

-Yuya has it a bit rough at first. He just got out of a war and now he was being dragged into another? Thankfully he gets his bearings quickly but is still somewhat shaken. Some of the servants are wary around him because they can feel the distortion that exists within his soul, his three other versions, and the power that could trun him into the Supreme King once again still exists there even if Zarc has passed on. He gets along with Siegfried well enough, and they swap stories about how the expectations of others can lead you to ruin. The Alter Egos feel a kinship to him since he's also a consolidated personality rather than a full person, though he gets along best with the Celts. Cu, Scathach and Fergus all love to see his performances, but to them that just meant that they can put him through warrior training especially after they hear about the war he went through. Scathach insists that him running for his life while she chases is good training, while Cu agrees while running alongside him. In battle he uses his acrobatic prowess enhanced with a little bit of fortification/protection magic, and can summon all four of his dragons to help him. Since the other Yu Boys are stuck within Yuya, they occasionally trade places:

Yuto gets along with Archer and occasionally helps him out. Archer is sympathetic to the struggles he unerwent in his own world and makes sure to keep his spirits up while also trying to ignore the irony.Yugo and David have struck up a strange friendship since they both have the issue of mistaking people for their so. David sees Yugo talk about how even if his life was hard it was worth it for the people he loved and remembers his son fondly.Yuri is generally avoided since even after the merge he's still something of a wildcard, but he gets along well with Hans and Kiara of all people. Sometimes he'd share the stories of the training he underwent in Academia, how the Professor trained him to see people as toys and all the people he's hurt, how his dragon was his only friend and how itd protect him, and Hans couldn't help but hate his pessimistic attitude in expecting this while Kiara wouldn't really care too much but also wouldn't insult him by offering condolences. He knows he's become a monster and he won't deny or forget his mistakes, he'll simply try to do better.

-[note: Vrains suddenly had its ending announced for Sept.25 (i believe it may have been cancelled) so based on the episode title of 120 Yusaku and Ai will reunite and thats what im following here] Yusaku is skittish at best, downright invisible at worst. He doesn't want to be found, and even some of the Assassin Class servants have trouble tracking him down when needed. Ai managed to bring along a spare SOLtis body with him so he can walk around and physically interact with Yusaku. Even if they still had some tension between them they still cared about each other so they would keep each other company. It got real awkward when BB first showed up talking about being a sentient AI, so Ai immediatelt tried to befriend her, only to learn about her inhuman nature. While Ai may dislike that aspect of her, he knows from what happened with Roboppy that you cant forcibly change what you are, so he does his best to try and get along, which infuriates BB to no end since she feels like she's being talked down to. Yusaku as a programmer helps with most of Chaldeas regular workforce and he accomplishes hiding in plain sight by being the only master to interact more with the regular work staff than their servants. That being said, it doesn't change how some like Tamamo or Suzuka try to drag him out so he can meet some of the other servants. He gets along well with Kerry. Likely because they barely speak and share E Rank Luck.

An exchange was made between Semiramis and MHA. The Empress bid the space visitor to go fetch the 'seconds' she had offered earlier. But first, MHA need someone to transport her newly exchanged sweets to her room in Chaldea.

'Need a hand, Artoria?' Different to others who would call her by that name, Ecchan looked up from her phone while her feet started moving toward the voice.

'Nobu-san' She was there with X. The latter dragged her along the moment her radar picked up MHA's signal on Semiramis's garden. Lucky for Semiramis, X's spaceship crashed into some unfortunate chocogolems thus avoided damaging the Assyrian Empress' physical NP.

'As expected of my partner to strong armed a poison empress into a deal. Do you want green tea to go with those or- OOF'

'ECCHAN! Did you skip breakfast again?' X hastily shoved a steambun to MHA's mouth, knowing full well her roommate could be so unmotivated she would rather collapse on Nobu and remain there.

'Mmmm, no, I ate. Nobu-san is just the best warmer.' MHA however doesn't give up the bun X gave her. Yet she can talk fine with said bun in her mouth.

X has no complain. She quickly join in, sandwiching MHA between her and Nobu. An annoyed Empress is in the background.

'X, stop. You're overheating me.'

'Nobu's body temp is that of a furnace, Ecchan.'

'Ah, I can't compare to that sun above us. This close to it, we're going to be a panini soon.' The still annoyed Empress now has the Gudas in chain.

'If you want to call of the deal, I would make an exception and take your baked remnant as penalty fee for breaking the contract.'

Oh but the wise queen of Assyria won't let herself be duped as her chains slowly squeeze the life out of the Gudas. So they tried to convince the the Nobutorua sandwich (mostly MHA) to go get more choco spaceship.

'After my nap, Master-san.' As she said this, MHA snuggled closer to Nobu who by this time had pulled her hoodie up to shield her partner from the sun's harsh glare. Thus the Gudas turned to plead with X and Nobu. The former adamantly choose her roommate's desire and comfort before them. The latter had this coy smirk on her face ready to bargain. At least one of them refuses to go unless someone take care of MHA's sweet and Semiramis refuses to let go of her bargain chips a.k.a the prisoners Gudas.

'I'll make sure to transfer those back now. You three go ahead and get those spaceship.' The extra Master spoke up, having had her fill of watching Semiramis getting worked up. Still her main motivation is her extreme bias toward that Servant sandwich and her own want to spoil them. Satisfied with the arrangment, the sandwich float to X's spaceship. The sight is comically unusual enough that Semiramis loosen her chains in bewilderment.

'Tell me again since when Nobu can float/do that?'

'Since day one.' The extra Master started on her volunteered task, not wanting to risk getting roasted by Nobus or disappointing the Artorias.

X's spaceship took off with MHA settled comfortably into Nobu's lap. A nap after a meal is nice but scarcely few things can beat a nap with a best personal heater one can't buy with money on a spaceship piloted by your 'roommate'. Since MHA is happy, X is happy. She'd take her time until Ecchan wake up then it'll be time for warping.

EOR SE.RA.PH Singularity: Act 3

Man now that I’m a little more awake I’m realizing just how much of a disservice the “Kama should have been redeemed” F/GO takes do to Guda. Guda is Servant Lover #1, yeah, but the thing is that that only applies to people they actually know and allies they meet and servants actually in Chaldea. They’re not a goddamn doormat who goes “Aw, maybe they’re not so bad!” at enemies trying to hurt them and their friends, and they don’t extend that hand and offer a redemption arc until AFTER the servant says they want to join Chaldea. Guda is more than happy to help redeem Kama after she joins Chaldea, but expecting them to try to give her therapy *when she’s trying to cause the literal apocalypse* is absolutely absurd. Guda doesn’t know Kama and they’ve got no reason to talk her down while she’s a Beast, and given who Kama is and what her powers are she’d probably just take advantage of Guda if they tried anyway.

Day 2 of the queue with the turning point of the story is here! Definitely a challenging one since this is way before a certain class kicks to deal with Avenger class. Though they are one thing... Another enemy that shows up in the near end is another! Anyway, let’s start!

With Gilgamesh’s soul back to his body along with the people in Uruk, Ana welcomed us back... A new change of look? Guess she finally outgrown her fear of humans a little :)

Oh? Seems like everyone is rejoicing at the return of their king! Third return... Someone been into hell too much back and forth... Oh hey, the Gudas even their model done after saving the King’s soul!

Now that we left 2 days... Time to start the meeting against Gorgon’s attack. Siduri is making sure you’re finishing your work here so that’s a role of king for ya.

100k of hundred beasts marching towards the city tomorrow.. Half a day is given for us to enter Gorgon’s temple, so a limited time to finish her while Uruk is dealing with the beast. Ah, the axe has finally arrived as well! That should take care of the bounded field!

Expected of Quetz to be able to throw that giant axe! But the rules are still in effect by their alliance... That’s a nasty burn to you Gilgamesh from Quetz herself!
