Something that is super fascinating to me about the concept of Good Uncle Belos AUs is how Hunter is affected by how differently his uncle treats him vs how Belos treats everyone else.
For further clarification, this refers to AUs where Belos is basically "bad person, good parent" and nothing about him changes except for his relationship to Hunter (and possibly his relationship to Caleb and the rest of the grimwalkers), not AUs where Belos is a good person/has good intentions.
Because Belos would still be his canon, shitty self mistreating and manipulating his subordinates, and then the doors would close and he'd turn to Hunter and be all nice and caring and parental. Like, how does Hunter deal with that? How does Hunter deal with constantly facing the fact that his uncle is Not A Good Person?
This isn't canon Hunter, who has no reference for what a Healthy and Good Relationship looks like, and thus thinks its normal. This is a Hunter who actually has a pretty good picture of what love and care looks like, and has had it since his childhood. So how Belos treats others would register to him as something Different, as something Weird, or maybe something Bad.
Would Hunter accept it as Just How It Is for people who are of vastly different ranks? Or would Hunter turn to apologism and victim-blaming to deny the fact that his loving uncle could ever be capable of doing something like that? (Especially if Belos tells him that it's because they "deserved it" when Hunter asks why.) Maybe Hunter just turns a blind eye to the mistreatment. Maybe he just pretends that side of his beloved uncle doesn't exist, and avoids any situation where he might have to see his uncle lash out.
Maybe there's a part of Hunter that knows that his uncle is a shitty person, even if he is doing his best to cling onto his impression that Belos is someone good. And that part would urge him into taking the blame whenever missions would go wrong, even if he really had nothing to do with the mission's failure. Maybe Hunter would learn how to distract Belos, how to redirect his anger, how to manage his moods and cheer him up, all so that others don't have to face the Emperor's wrath.
Alternatively, Hunter can be an asshole about it. Like, a smug, spoiled, entitled asshole. He demands what he wants and he will get what he wants unless you want to get reported to the Emperor. The type of guy where you'd love to deck him, but you can't because he'll go running to his politically powerful, rich dad uncle and make you regret it.
It kinda irks me when people say that Hunter is fundamentally a good person, because personally it would be a lot more interesting if he had to learn how to be a good person, or has to put effort into being good. Maybe Hunter was an entitled brat when he was younger, maybe Hunter actively tries not to be like the Emperor, or if he has nasty voice in his head that tells him that "hey, Kikimora's being a real bitch lately. Why don't you mess something up and blame it on her?" Even if Belos genuinely loves him, he is still a horrible role model for a developing child.
Hunter's struggle with reconciling his Uncle Belos with the merciless Emperor Belos is something that I wish more creators would explore (hell, it doesn't even have to occur solely in a Good Uncle Belos AU, it's still applicable to canon) more. Because (fully) realizing that your uncle, your only remaining family, someone that you love is a Bad Person is hard. Hunter goes through this in canon, in Labyrinth Runner's "I spent my life believing I was doing something good for someone good, but it was a lie." But now, there's the added layer of realizing that Belos had the capacity to be someone good. Hunter knows that his uncle could have been someone good, his positive relationship with Belos is proof, isn't it? But instead, Belos chose not to change. Belos had over 300 years to change, and is self-aware enough to filter out most, if not all, the emotional manipulation from his interactions with Hunter, and yet he still remains a complete and utter ass.
Or maybe... Belos also lied about how much he loved Hunter. Maybe Hunter wasn't exempt from the Emperor's manipulation, and all his kindness was just a facade. Maybe Belos was just a bad person, incapable of being anything resembling good. Hunter wouldn't know if it's true or not, wouldn't trust Belos's answer if they even get a chance to talk about it, but at least believing it alleviates the guilt he would feel for resenting him.

Idk if you're still making this, but I want to let you know that we're waiting for BoB Lovetropes p2. My suggestions: Toye, Eugene, Malarkey, Guarnere, Luz, Sobel. Hope you're doing okay <3
A/n: I've been dealing with some stuff lately and now finally have a little time to catch up on old stuff. I also want to apologize anon I couldn't bring myself to soble. Sorry couldn't do it.
-Warnings: fluff, tiny bit of language, got wayyy to carried away with malarkey’s, oops. Might have to turn that into its own thing, if it's not already. Luz is slightly spicy, nothing crazy but you cant miss it.-
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Joe Toye
-grumpy vs sunshine trope. Omggggg, the idea of this has me kicking my feet and giggling. Joe Toye is rough around the edges, tough skin. You on the other hand have always been the positive one, keeping the people around you spirits high. Being an optimist of sorts. Maybe not cheerful but you could definitely make someone's day. Yet behind his grumpy facade, he can't help but notice your unwavering optimism. He wasn't opposed to love; he just never expected to be swept off his feet so quickly by one person. Your personality was anything but the same. Never in a million years did he think he was going to fall in love with a bright and shiny person, which was the exact reason why he loved you so much. You two were like night and day. You were the beacon of light in all the darkness. I feel like Toye would also be super protective over you. Kinda the same vibe as liebgott. But that's for another time.
“Is that a smile I see on your face toye?” “I'm one lucky bastard you realize that?”
Eugene roe
-office romance/forced proximity. I didn't exactly know what to call this one. Both you and roe are easy company medics. Gene from the start, harbord a crush on you. And mean big time crush. Thinking about you he got butterflies in his stomach. You both spent significant time together. Typically the only times you were separated is when you were attending to fellow paratroopers. Bastogne was a turning point. You were in a jeep headed to the church, your hand and a cloth being the soul thing keeping a man alive. You almost made it before the church burst into flames. When Gene heard what happened he got the first ride possible to bastogne. When he saw you, hand now on a clearly dead man, he took you into his arms. He brought you back to the Adrennes forest. As usual you spent the night in genes fox hole the only difference was you both saw what was right in front of you for the first time and kissed. It wasn't until Austria where he gave you a promise ring where he promised to spend and devote the rest of his life with you.
“you make me the happiest man you know that y/n?”
“Tell me that again at our wedding”
Donald Malarkey
-friends to lovers? Maybe a sprinkle of enemies to lovers?? I don't know but here me out. So you join the paratroopers as a female, the reason you got in was from connections in the army. Seeing how even if you are the most talented female there is, it's still the 40s here. I wouldn't think that the Toccoa men would flat out bully you, but would more just not believe in you. Probably leave you out of a lot of things. Kind of just pretend you weren't there. But not malarkey. He saw something in you that the rest didn't. Honestly he was shocked to see how they treated you. You were the best paratrooper there was in this company. You stood your ground. You met and exceeded in all categories. Passed each test with flying colors. You also were able to do it with the most incredible smile. As much as you disliked it, he stood up for you. Complimented and congratulated you when you did well. You really liked him. He was cute, kind, and not a douche wad. But sadly, most guys here if they weren't mean, they were trying to get Into your pants. As much as you wouldn't mind that with malarkey, you weren't here for that. One day in Aldbourne England you had enough. You weren't going to get swooned into bed and he had to know it. When you had a spare moment you grabbed him and pulled him aside and told him to stop. He was bewildered that this is how you perceived him. He explained to you that was not his intention. You could hear the sincerity of his voice. He meant it. This was the start of your friendship. You both were like a thing but not? Kinda a situationship. But it wasn't official until Haguenau. The effects of war painted across your faces. In one of the houses you laid in one of the beds, trying for the hundredth time to get some rest to no avail. He came and found you. There was little and a lot to say. Instead he kissed you. The past two years of friendship melted instantly into a lifetime of love.
“god i've wanted you to do that for a long time”
“What happened to ‘I'm not here for a relationship?”
“shut the fuck up and kiss me again would ya”
William Guarnere
-Enemies to lovers. Come on, this is so perfect. Guarnere is a natural bully. He bullies everybody all the time, but you? He loves bullying you. He always has an insult special for you up his sleeve. However, that's a lie. He hates it to his core. You are the sweetest person ever. All he wants to do is not bully you. He's somewhere in the middle of liebgott and Speers. He doesn't want to be seen as weak. He has this demnor he feels the need to uphold and that everybody around him expects. Not some ooey gooey man. Even though if he could he'd probably worship you. You were perfect in his eyes. He hates himself more and more but the more he digs himself into this hole the harder it is for him to get out. He finally cracks when someone else makes a particular mean stab at you one day at a bar in holland. He can hate himself all he fucking wants for bullying you. But somebody else is doing it? Hurting you? Not going to happen. He breaks his nose, jaw, maybe a rib or two, black eye and busted lip, all before he could get ripped off this guy. You get wind of this later. Within minutes you're confronting him. Before he shuts you up with a kiss.
“I thought you hated me”
“Hate you? No, For fuckes sake sweetheart, I'm in love with you”
George Luz
-meet cute. You originally met just before you signed up to be paratroopers. And I mean just before. You were getting blood work done to test how fit you were to fight.  As you waited in the lobby to fill out paperwork, you went to reach for your pen. That's when you realized it wasn't there. It just so happens that a very cute guy next to you had an extra with him. You quickly filled the paper and exchanged names and conversations. On the way home you couldn't get him out of your head. So couldn't he. Later when you were assigned to easy company you found the one and only George luz. The same extremely handsome guy at the clinic. He immediately recognized you. How could he not? Your face and laugh had been at the front of his thoughts a lot lately. You tried to keep both of your composure during Toccoa seeing how you didn't want to get into any trouble. But that all fell apart after one weekend with a pass and some alcohol. Kisses were shared, clothes were shed and hands roamed. After that night you made it official. Luz also started writing his vows.
“you know I've never felt this way before”
“What the sex or me? Because If it wasn't the sex let me know so we can go again”
“both luz, but I can't turn that offer down now can I”

I have to address something in the owl house fandom that has been driving me crazy.
The fandom seems to not fully understand what found family is. They take characters having familial bonds as being biologically related.
Some major examples of this are luz and hunter being actual siblings even though they don’t have much contextual evidence to support this. And I’ve even seen people say that he is a clone of her (luz’s) great grandfather; because of her mother-child relationship with Eda.
(Let me get this straight really fast I’m neutral on lunter and I don’t care if you ship it I personally don’t.)
The thing is these misunderstandings of found family trope has caused meaningless fighting in fandom spaces. It is always deeply frustrating for me to see because fandom history and character troupes are my special interest. And if these troupes are taken literally it causes issues to the toh family trees.
For example
Camilla Noceda thinks of the hex squad as her own children using the fandoms logic this makes Luz, Amity, Gus, Hunter, and Willow siblings; Making lumity and huntlow incest which is stupid.
Another example of this is ,
Alador and Darius are slightly implied to be together in the credit scene of Watching and Dreaming(this episode was very flawed but I’m not going to address my opinions on that right now), And again using the fandom logic this would make Hunter who is adopted by Camilla and Darius brothers to both Amity and Luz making the couple step siblings 🤦.
Sorry if I have any major grammatical or punctuation errors, I wrote this while irritated and rather pissed off.
Also let me know if I should post on the many issues with WAD and the downfall of toh’s plot.

Ya know I think my biggest worry about the show ending was that the Lilith and Amity dynamic would die with it.
Because of that scenario never getting screen time and the fandom slowly forgetting/losing interest in it, I figured it would just disappear.
I was actually legitimately sad I would have to eventually go on with my life with no more fan art, headcanons or stories. It would all just STOP.
Then Dana gave the Raven mom fans a head nod, and saved it from oblivion.
Now there are stories and art going around I can barely keep up with it all.
It’s freakin great…
I mean I love the found family trope man. Me personally I’m adopted. I love the dynamic of a lost child being found and given a home, that’s my whole life.
That’s why I love Eda and Luz’s bond. And wanted the same for my two favorite characters in this incredible series.
I am beyond grateful to Dana and the fandom for not tossing the idea aside. And for continuing to provide stories/art/ideas to a dynamic I thought died a long time ago.
My way of thinking, I thought I was crazy in thinking their dynamic was beautiful. I really thought it was over.

Maybe having hope in what you care about isn’t such a waste of time after all…

some thoughts on the owl house
disclaimer: during my watchtime, the following things happened:
i was drunk (not enough to not remember anything, but enough to maybe not remember everything correctly)
i was tired/sluggish
my internet sucked (so some episodes i had to watch through almost unbearable stuttering, and i skipped one altogether [the body swap one in S1])
but none of these things happened for ALL episodes, and the further i watched the more invested i was. also, this will cover every episode up to the latest one released (for the future). so here it is. Some Thoughts about the owl house incoming:
OVERALL: after going through the first few episodes, i somehow ended up getting reminded of undertale. but maybe not for the reasons you might think: yknow, two stories involving a human accidentally breaching into a world full of magic and fantastical creatures, with no easy way of getting out. but it wasn't for those structural reasons, and more like the fact that TOH seems to be a deconstruction of the tropes it's presenting, just like undertale deconstructs the usual RPG and plays with its tropes to tell its story.
i find this change refreshing because even if it's not a new idea, i like that the fish out of water has such high expectations for what she'll experience in this new world. and i was surprised when they kept that angle as the show went on: i was yet again reminded of toby fox when luz is presented as a writer (yknow, giving the protagonist a trait/skill of their creator, just like how kris plays the piano in deltarune). there are a lot of aspects about it that are very thought provoking and greatly enhance the experience.
another thing is that i was pleasantly surprised to see that not only the show was willing to put through its complicated world and make it central in the story, but also that almost every thing introduced in the show wound up being important and building the bigger picture. like, the last stretch of the second season was just crazy to watch, and i was amazed and so, so happy that the show took its time to get there in the end. i see the hype and i agree, basically.
that’s not to say i don’t have my issues with some things. what i don’t think i will be going over in the sections below i’ll say here: i think the show is decidedly unsubtle. not necessarily a bad thing, but it ruins the potential of certain moments. there’s stuff that i like, some examples being: the light glyph being integral to luz’s presence in the show (since luz means light in spanish); how amity has brown hair just like her dad yet is dyed green to match her mom’s; hunter’s name; the owl beast appearing in eda’s dreams; uhhhh that’s all i can name off the top of my head. i think in some cases the messages are delivered clumsily due to the lack of subtlety, but i also think the show gets better about that as it goes along - i consider it a S1 problem, mostly.
there’s also the elephant in the room about the show being shortened for reasons we don’t know about in the slightest. man, fuck disney lol. below, there’s a lot of places in which i would’ve wanted to say certain thing needed more time to develop or other things feel rushed/incompleted and i’ve omitted most of them because i understand this is a limitations the writers weren’t aware of and had to restructure the whole final season of the show into three 45 minute episodes. i therefore offer my sympathy and won’t criticize the show for that. i’m sure a lot of people have talked about those things (the break-neck pacing of some plot-lines and other stuff being introduced in a not-so-seamless way), so you won’t need me to repeat what you people already know.
even with all of those things in mind (and the criticisms that you’ll find in the rest of this post) i loved the owl house and i’m very happy i took my time to watch it. i’m not really the kind of person to watch movies and shows very candidly - in fact, the first time i decided i would watch TOH i was drunk and just forced myself into it. i am pleased to have done it because this is a great show and i wish i could’ve grown up watching something like this - esp considering the main character is a bisexual latina girl of color, just like me. i hope further shows in kid and tween channels follow this standard and all in all i love it enough to feel very invested in these characters and the major plot beats of the story.
LUZ: i really like luz!!! i just think hopeless optimistics that are actually hiding a lot of guilt and trauma are incredibly compelling characters and a lot is done with it in the show. i love her design and her quirks and how the show recognizes and uses them: one of my favorite moments in the show is that one part in escaping expulsion where amity asks the abomination butler who took her spot, and when the abomination turns around you can see the kitty face luz molded on him and that’s it. no need to say her name or anything, amity (and us, the viewers) immediately know it’s luz. gah! what a great moment.
i also love the way the show slowly reveals luz’s insecurities and hardships. she’s just so layered and you get to see every part. luz’s revelation in FTF is also something that resonates so intimately with my own problems and i get teary eyed just thinking about how well-setup that moment is and how it’s allowed such a big space in the episode. if you allow me to go on a little tangent, i find it fantastic how much they did with camila in such little time. it’s so great that we’re allowed to peak into her world and see how she never felt anything was wrong with luz, but instead of leaving it at that (she’s redeemed now you guys :D), they make camila recognize her mistake in such an honest and heartfelt way that directly impacts with luz’s narrative journey through all seasons in TOH. it treats both characters in such a humanly way… gah, it’s fantastic.
however, i'll say that my favorite dynamic in the show is probably luz and eda. i just love that since the very beginning they were both pushing at each other’s mindsets, and challenged each other in ways that allowed them to question their worldviews and change. there’s also the way eda ties into luz’s revelation that she just wants to be understood: i believe they both agreed to stay together because freaks stick together, making it so that eda and luz’s connection is so special because eda allows luz to feel understood. but yeah, i don’t wanna list examples because i feel like if i start i’ll never finish - source: trust me bro, yknow how it is. they’re fantastic characters already but they add so much to each other through their relationship.
EDA: honestly, there’s not really that much i can say about her. eda already ties in the fantasy trope deconstruction by being presented as this bad bitch channeling some manic pixie dream girl stuff - and just like luz, the show takes its time to deepen her character and make her a lot more complex. i don’t think it succeeds in every part (i go in more detail while talking about raine) but they get almost everything right and that’s enough for me. she’s at her best when she’s interacting with luz but also she has such great dynamics with every other character that pops up (although maybe i wasn’t the biggest fan of her interactions with lilith at the beginning, but it gets better and then it gets good).
HOOTY: i love him to death. what a little bastard. god won’t let him die.
KING: i am mixed on king, though considering everything i do have a positive stance on him. i don’t really like the trope of animal-type characters behaving like dogs [toothless from HTTYD the movie and the horse from disney’s rapunzel come to mind], and while king’s character gets more complex as the show progresses, that doesn’t really ever go away. the kid antics don’t help either. however, the S2 episode where king takes everyone to his “land” was an instant favorite - even midway through my first viewing, i knew i would love it. king’s tragic backstory def comes as a surprise and the show really capitalizes on that, and i love how plot relevant he becomes out of nowhere. i loved him in FTF and i’m very pleased with the direction his character took in S3.
AMITY: boy, does disney love their rich mean girls with overbearing parent(s). well i'm just not so invested, personally. i perked up for a bit in certain episodes, because it seemed like the show was bringing back its deconstruction of fantasy world tropes/characters when they equated hecate with amity. like, luz being motivated to befriend her because azura did so with the mean girl in her world? that's VERY interesting. and you don't know the squeal that i let out when luz starts crushing on amity, JUST because she pseudo-cosplays a powerful witch!!! and this sort of continues as luz builds an image of amity in her head that is not that accurate to her actual persona - and how that is presented as an obstacle for them getting together, culminating in the point where amity outright says that she’s not as cool as luz thinks. for a moment, i was enthralled waiting for the show to do anything with it. but sadly, after the initial hype, their relationship becomes a recycled jumble of miraculous ladybug-esque blushing interactions (and thank god it wasn't for THAT long), and then luz's secrets and amity's fear of not being good enough.
i guess my problem is that there's nothing that being together really adds to their characters, and their dynamic isn't that interesting otherwise. once amity rekindles her friendship with willow and enters luz's friend group, that's most of it resolved. the conflicts that arise in their relationship are way more personal and i believe they're dealt better with other characters (luz's guilt with eda, and amity's insecurities with alador and her sibs). i don't think their dynamic is bad per se (for example, i loved that they brought back amity's fear of rejection in the hooty episode, it's a really effective heart-wrenching moment), but maybe some conflict in their get-together through amity's mom could've been a good way of dealing with that problem in a way that doesn't feel that divorced from the main story (especially since amity’s mom has minimal screen time in the show) while also keeping their relationship plot-relevant. but honestly, i don't blame canon for not giving me a ship i can really enjoy. i'm extremely hard to please.
it also seems like the show kinda forgets about amity’s privileged status once she stops being a bully. in fact, it makes it seem like she’s actually just as powerless as the other kids in the main group, especially through odalia. i would’ve loved to see those aspects impact not only her presence in the group but her relationship with luz, too, because IMO it would never be anything other than interesting and it would add a lot to her character. however, i am led to think that this is less of an aspect that couldn’t fit in the story due time restraints and more of a thing that the writers genuinely think amity is in a good spot re: her character development, which is something i talk about more in the willow section. and speaking of willow...
WILLOW: i like good-natured characters who are good just for the sake of being good. therefore, i like willow, but i like her in the way that i think she’s a great addition to the cast and she has fun dynamics with both luz and gus. however, just on her own, willow is kinda meh.
i enjoyed the bullying (you know, as a narrative tool) for like four seconds when luz said [gasp] witch drama!!! and then never again. like, i don’t think whatever the show is trying to say with the “half-a-witch willow” is ever done good. and for how many jabs this show throws against harry potter, is astounding how similar the half-a-witch and muggle terms are. i would even say the half-a-witch thing is worse because i don’t even understand what “half-a-witch” is supposed to mean. the child of a witch and a demon? being less powerful than a “regular” witch? if the show ever explained it, it did it once and quick enough that it never stayed on my memory. moreover, if the half-a-witch thing is meant to point at willow being neurodivergent, then it makes the development of that plotpoint a lot clunkier.
the show then makes the argument that the “half-a-witch” claim is untrue because willow is actually a really powerful witch, and i am yet again reminded of hermione and how hp butchered the point of the “muggle” bullying. this is something that greatly infuriated me in the episode where willow is trying to prove to amity that she can take care of herself, because the problem isn’t that amity just needs to see how powerful willow is: the point is that anyone could be in willow’s place, and amity would be just as condescending. therefore, the solution isn’t to make amity realize that this particular person is strong enough to protect herself. it should be that amity shouldn’t be treating anyone like this in the first place! yet because willow = hermione, the argument is that willow shouldn’t be bullied/looked-down upon because she’s very strong, actually, just like hermione shouldn’t feel bad about being called a “muggle” because she’s smarter than some full-blood wizards (or whatever the term is). this misunderstanding of bullying is something that i hate because, as someone who was bullied in school, the knowledge that i was “superior” to those bullying me never made my situation better. however, that’s exactly how it happens for willow: boscha’s team bonds with her for being such a cool not-quidditch player (i’m sorry, i genuinely cannot remember the name of the sport lol), people in the school come around willow because suddenly they notice she’s Cool, and amity stops belittling her because willow is really cool, guys. you’ll notice i have a real grudge against the amity/willow plotline because it annoys me that the resolution is that amity will make an exception for one (1) person, when it should’ve been a moment of growth in the sense that she’s straying away from the way her mom raised her and actually seeing value in each person around her, instead of just considering willow part of the elite comparable to people like her (powerful witches).
[let me say, though, that i do like that willow’s self-confidence grows due to the influence of her friends, because that’s something they got right and it doesn’t feel right to not acknowledge it too.]
anyways, it’s a missed opportunity that not only would’ve been a great character moment for both girls, but also would’ve re-established amity and willow’s friendship in a genuine and pointed way. i’ve seen that a lot of people don’t think amity was truly redeemed for the years in which she bullied and belittled willow, but i do think that the moment where amity turns her back to boscha and joins willow’s non-quidditch team out of her own volition was a great narrative beat to determine that she was genuinely on her side, and to me, that was enough. however, it’s unrealistic to think that their dynamic would be smooth sailing from that point onwards, and i was pleased to see that the show recognized that and made it a plotline in a future episode. however, as i said, it was an instance where they correctly identified the problem, but the resolution was not good. okay, that’s enough of amity, going back to willow…
for how much criticism i have for the whole “half-a-witch” stuff, i think willow’s character gets so much more in FTF, and it’s one of the reasons why i think it’s such a great episode. i was so happy when they brought back the fact that willow’s emotional turmoil is tied very closely to her witch plant powers, since it served as a plot device to make luz and willow meet but was ignored for the rest of the show. i cannot even be too mad that it came so late because it was very well done IMO. i really love when media explores the stories of characters that are put into certain roles and aware of it: an immediate example is luz, actually, since she’s so aware that she’s the protagonist of the story (and again, it’s how the show pokes fun at or subverts some fantasy tropes), but skam españa season 2 does that with cris, making a point to give a full season to the character that is the “funny party girl” in her friend group (REALLY great season, please everyone go watch skam españa). in this case, willow is the mom friend that is crumbling under the pressure of being there for her friends while also dealing with her own trauma for her own situation. i also really like that is hunter who reaches out first, because it’s also a great character moment for him. this was a thing the show understood perfectly and developed beautifully in an episode filled with people coming to terms with their own mistakes, all while trying to be there for their loved ones (luz obviously, camila, willow and hunter as the main ones). it’s a shame that it comes so late in the show because that would’ve immensely helped in making me like willow’s character in the beginning and middle of the show. half-a-witch willow, more like half-a-character willow amirite [gets booed off the stage].
GUS: i think gus is a perfectly balanced character and i like him a lot. he’s just very endearing and charming, but also has some depth in him that make for very compelling scenes - the one where hunter and gus bond for the first time comes to mind. i also adore that the main trio (luz, willow and gus) are all witches who are constantly put in situations where they feel like they must prove themselves to everyone else, as well as that happening in completely different ways (luz dealing with a completely different set of magic logic since she can’t cast conventional wild magic; willow and her “half-a-witch” deal as well as her emotionally-triggered plant powers; and gus being a gifted kid living up to those standards at the same time that he deals with studying a type of magic that a lot of people find useless). it’s good for them to stick together because they can understand each other in a way the world may never be able to - and once again we’re back at luz’s FTF revelation being a main theme for a lot of the cast of characters in the show. tldr, gus Good - and even better when paired with other characters.
HUNTER: my first reaction to hunter's (real) introduction in the second season was "oh. he has a personality??" i wasn't yet aware if it was a negative or a positive thought, but it was certainly not what i was expecting. what i thought of it afterwards is that maybe this was the simpler way of setting hunter apart from all the other emperor's coven NPCs that had been introduced so far - in hindsight, that doesn’t even apply because none of the guards are shown as being a force to be reckoned with, and they’re the butt of the joke in multiple occasions. then, i realized that my puzzled reaction was because i was expecting the golden guard to be more like the winter soldier. honestly, i still can't decide if making him act like that in the beginning was the best idea. during the episode of his first official appearance (s2e2) he didn't feel like a threat at all. he just seemed a little incompetent and like he was just amused by the characters and didn't have real intentions to hurt them. i think stuff like darius' introduction works much better in that regard - we get to see how powerful and ruthless he can be, while also showing a lot of personality and being humorous. i'm just not sure what the goal was at the beginning, or that it was done all that well.
of course, because it all leads up to hunter joining the main group, it makes sense that the guy has to have a likable personality. but i have this feeling that the show is trying too hard to get the point across about hunter just being a kid, and so we get him being incompetent instead. IMO, the VA's performance and hunter's physical appearance work just fine (luz even says hunter looks like he could be a student at hexside, which i want to believe is a callback to that one scene in spiderman 2). like, i don't know. i like hunter as a character and he adds a lot to the cast, but i wish some things had been done a little better with him.
however, there are a lot of ways in which i think hunter is a fantastic character in a way that fits really well with the whole deconstruction stuff i talked about earlier. i adore that final frame in the hunting palismen episode, where hunter is looking out this tiny window in a huge tower, confined in a tiny space while his animal sidekick rests in his hands… like holy shit, hunter is literally paralleled to rapunzel, a damsel in distress if you will. i genuinely love those moments and i eat them up every single time lol. there’s other stuff like hunter flinching when belos leans in to flick his hair out of his face: it’s such an effective storytelling tool in a short gesture. like, their relationship is absolutely clear from that gesture alone: how dismissive belos is of hunter’s feelings and worries, how he won’t think twice about humiliating him like that, and how hunter genuinely fears belos - as well as hints that he might have been physically abused by his uncle at some point. in that same line of thought, i like how that is followed through in FTF (i have a real boner for this episode i know) because of course hunter doesn’t know how to deal with that sort of grief. everything that happened in thanks to them is so incredibly fucked up for him and he’s just stuck in the anger stage, unable to move forward because he doesn’t know how. he devolves into such a practical view of the issue (this is all belos’ fault → we must find him and kill him) and it makes so much sense once you think about all the times his feelings were dismissed by his only parental figure (it even happened during thanks to them when hunter keeps writing off his suspicions as “paranoia” and apologizes for it to luz). and like, ugh, the way it comes back around when he helps willow out of her own spiral of grief, in the same way he projected his feelings on both amity and gus in S2. i just love that he’s so determined to be there for other people and how those are the first instances in which he allows himself to open up to others: by helping his friends when he sees them struggling. it’s such an effective way to communicate how loving and compassionate hunter truly is. like, i love how genuinely pained he sounds when he tells willow to never call herself “half-a-witch” again, unable to even repeat the term to her face. he’s such a good boy. i am holding him gently in my hands.
speaking of willow... i’ll guess you’ll notice that in the willow section i didn’t mention at all the romantic nudges towards hunter, and it’s because of two reasons. 1) i will talk about that Here and 2) hunter does nothing for willow as a romantic partner.
so yeah, as you could tell, not the biggest fan of their romance. i am partial to hunter crushing on willow because i think it does something for hunter: it allows him to have teenager experiences that he’s missing out on as the golden guard, and it further humanizes him compared to belos. to me, the problem is that the moment hunter crushes on willow, their get-together in canon is inevitable because of fucking course lol. furthermore, willow is easily the person who hangs out with hunter the least, and while he gets to have very defined dynamics with luz, gus and even amity in that one episode, i’m pretty sure he doesn’t interact with willow in any meaningful way besides getting paired with her on fight scenes. in fact, the only point in which they have a meaningful connection is in FTF, literally the second to last episode of the show. and it baffles me that the moment is decidedly non-romantic/found-family esque with gus being included in the resolution (not even as a third wheel: he's integral to it), only for the show to be like “mwahaha! get baited idiot” and have willow blush at hunter for no absolutely fucking reason (and hunter’s reaction is also decidedly not romantic either: he breaks down crying at willow’s words, as a parallel to the aforementioned platonic resolution from earlier). see, for all the problems i have with lumity and raeda, they have chemistry and reasons to be into each other, but i cannot say any of that for huntlow.
this gets worse when i think about the roles of everyone in the main group, and how hunter and gus’ brotherly moments don’t feel forced despite gus being the only one who can fill the role of “young sibling” in the main group, whereas it’s so obvious that hunter is crushing on willow because everyone else is either taken or not age appropriate. and you know, that doesn’t have to be a problem, that’s my point. again, it baffles me that hunter and willow meet halfway through season 2b, yet after that episode they barely exchange lines (i am struggling to remember if they even talk to each other), and the only indication of the romantic endgame is that hunter keeps blushing at her while willow is extremely oblivious and seems to do things out of her own goals of being a good witch and person, and not because she wants to connect with hunter. thanks to them also makes a point of having drawn out moments building on hunter’s relationships with luz and gus, and like… why leave willow out of them when being together is a point in the near future? like, this relationship definitely feels the most carelessly put-together, as there is NO narrative justification at all of why willow would suddenly fall for hunter - again, from a character resolution focused on willow learning to be vulnerable in front of her friends.
to me, the easiest fix to all of this is to have hunter crush on luz instead. hold on, let me cook. that way, we still have the point of hunter experiencing teenager stuff like crushing on people, yet we make sure that it doesn’t happen because luz is already taken and so instead hunter will eventually get over his crush while still caring for luz as a friend, and we avoid a pointless love triangle too. that can also tie with the main plot as luz is a direct parallel to evelyn (as hunter’s first real connection to wild magic, like evelyn was for caleb), yet the show can subvert that trope expectation of hunter and luz becoming lovers by recognizing that they’re both teenagers and hunter gets to have a life outside a romantic connection, going back to TOH being a deconstruction of fantasy tropes, yadda yadda.
also! i was surprised to see so many people disliking the fact that flapjack dies. i’ll say i digress. flapjack’s life being in danger works as a way to up the stakes in the fight, and i also consider it a poignant nod to flapjack being a symbol of evelyn and caleb’s romance and his “betrayal” to phillip - that, with the added bonus that belos feasts on palismen, makes flapjack’s death almost inevitable. i don’t know how i feel about hunter acquiring flapjack’s powers, though. on one hand, i like that evelyn and caleb’s love is surviving through belos’ failed plan to take revenge on their actions inheriting the palisman’s power: the fact that it manifests physically is a huge fuck you to belos and important to the narrative. on the other hand, i liked that hunter joined the league of “powerless” witches along with eda, lilith and luz - and i thought that was the direction they were going with when hunter uses luz’s glyphs in the belos’ brain episode. the whole glyph stuff mixes well with the story of caleb and evelyn, too, because hunter gets access to a kind of magic that he can make use of (unlike regular wild magic), and i also like the fact that he’d be using the same kind of magic his uncle found about first and used for his evil deeds, this time in the hands of his grimwalker nephew who will use it for belos’ downfall. but i guess hunter can get back his super-speed/teleportation stuff since it’s already part of his fighting style, sigh.
BELOS: uhhh good antagonist. great character. love whoever his VA is. very compelling. great foil to both luz and hunter. “twist villain” done right. not a lot to say tbh tho.
LILITH: first of all, love her design - and love how she stops dyeing her hair during FTF and we can finally see her natural hair color: it's a more effective way to show how far she's grown while also not hammering that fact to the viewer over and over again (cough cough amity). however, she suffers from the same problems most of the coven antagonists do, which is that she's hardly presented as a fearful contender and they're the butt of many jokes. it's not as bad as hunter but it's not as great as darius: she's clearly a force to be reckoned with, but whereas darius becoming a key player in eda's team is something i genuinely didn't see coming, the fact that eda and lilith have this bickering dynamic since the very start made it hard for me to envision her being a real threat. i liked her inclusion in the s1 dynamic, and her sharing eda's curse it's an effective narrative beat to apologize for her misdeeds and genuinely stick to eda's side. likewise, i like that her decision actually has consequences: she can't use magic again, she experiences a lot of side effects, etc. i also really appreciate that she's the only character who genuinely likes hooty because same. her dynamic with hooty is very lovely and became one of my favorites in the show, to my own surprise.
RAINE: personality wise raine reminded me a lot of willow, and i almost wanna say that their character was way more well-executed than willow’s. i’ve always been a sucker for characters who are naturally good and kind to others, without being twist-villains, and raine is no exception, but they’re also a key player in the plot near the end of S2 in a way willow really isn’t, besides just being luz’s friend.
honestly my biggest disappointment with raine is their relationship with eda. it has all the right ingredients: people who loved each other sincerely back in a simpler time, now finding each other again while they’re on opposite sides of the narrative conflict. as well as them being torn apart by their character flaws (in this case, the responsibility falls mostly on eda but still works). but man, the fact that they just meet again and they immediately fall back in this easy-going dynamic… what’s the point of all that backstory, then? it’s weird that raine seems to hold no grudges against eda for what she did all those years ago. it makes me wonder why they haven't interacted with each other at any other point, since they don’t really hold any animosity towards the other. i would’ve LOVED if they capitalized on their backstory to make them resentful to each other. off the top of my head: have eda resent raine for joining the coven and climbing to the top, maybe have her believe that they’re doing it just to spite her. or have raine be mad at eda for being so irresponsible and nonchalant about it, and show them being conflicted about their love for her and their duties while they work for the emperor. i also don’t like how the show just doesn't allow any kind of conflict to linger between them. like, there’s this part where raine finds out eda has a family, giving space to make them go through some feelings of betrayal and jealousy, or maybe mourn the life they could’ve had together, but it’s such a non-moment and nothing comes of it. i thought i would love their dynamic, but it’s pretty half-baked. still i like raine as a character. after hunter’s introduction not fulfilling my winter soldier expectations, i didn’t know if to give the brainwashed plotline to raine would work. i was pleasantly surprised when raine turns out to be faking their submissiveness, as it shows how smart and resourceful they are, and i like how that capitalizes off their non-threatening appearance.

Wednesday Characters as The Owl House Characters
I saw this on TikTok and as a fan of The Owl House and Wednesday, I totally agree. If Dana Terrace wants to do a live action of The Owl House, she already has three main cast characters.
I would like to say that all opinions expressed in this post will be mine. The guy who made the video just pointed out the possibility and after a conversation with my friends, we agreed with the idea.
Hunter Doohan as Hunter, a.k.a. “The Golden Guard”
The physical resemblance is visible, in addition to what he did very well playing the victim of the situation as Tyler Galpin, and Hunter is all of that. He's a teenager who needs urgent therapy, a good night's sleep and unconditional love.
At the beginning of the series, Tyler conveys exactly this feeling of “I'm going to treat you like my son and take care of you.” I see him as a good Hunter and in the behind-the-scenes footage of Wednesday, he gives off the big brother vibe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Emma Myers as Amity Blight
The physical resemblance once again caught my attention. In addition, I believe that Emma manages to bring to life the cute side that Amity develops with living with the Light.
In a few moments while she's sulking, or throwing a tantrum with Wednesday, I don't say I saw something Amity would do, but because of the trouble. Enid, during the fight with Wednesday, bites back; she attacks with the same intensity. And Amity doesn't like to let people get close. In my opinion, it would work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And she, of course, she couldn't stay out.
Jenna Ortega as Luz Noceda
In addition to the physical similarity and Latin representation, since Luz is Dominican-American, and Jenna is a very crazy mix of Puerto Rican with Mexican and American. I can clearly see Jenna performing the joy and extroverted combo of Luz.
Not to mention, I would love to see a role reversal, with Emma being the serious grumpy one, while Jenna is the bubbly and happy one. Swapping what we're already seeing from the sunshine x grumpy trope.

(SPOILERS FOR KING’S TIDE AND A MAJORITY OF THE OWL HOUSE AS A WHOLE)
I’ve been tracking and following along with The Owl House since it started airing, which is crazy for me to think about. But I never considered myself a fan until season 2. In all frankness, I felt as though too many things in season 1 acted as filler. Which I understand that a lot of it was to establish the world, I know. But personally, season 1 wasn’t my thing. I was expecting season 2 to be in a similar vain. I was pleasantly surprised to be contradicted of that. Anyways, long story short, I’m a huge fan of the show now, all the characters growing on me in their own way. And I wanted to comment on the season 2 finale. It was emotional, it held the weight of the build up very well, but I wanted to talk about something that’s hit me. I’m sure everyone already got this and took note of it, but I think my mind was focusing on other things the season was offering. Luz was desperately adamant to not leave Eda behind, she refused to go through the portal with her friends back to the human realm without Eda. King sacrificed himself so Luz could be safe in her own realm again. That being one of Luz’s worst fears. She knew if she went back to her realm, she would lose all the friends she made, and it hit me. All her friends. Her family. Everyone. Her mother is the only person she has back home. It all made sense now. Why Luz was doing so much with her friends now, why she was making sure she could keep her friends safe, why she couldn’t leave without Eda. She has nothing back in the human realm besides her mom. No friends, just a school that belittles her, and loneliness. I think this makes it all the more devastatingly painful. That is what makes the found family trope so sad. I think part of me didn’t understand why she was so angry with Eda when she tried to send her away with Raine. I think I was focusing on Luz’s anger when she was interpreting Eda’s protectiveness as thinking she was too weak. But I think I see the whole picture now. Luz doesn’t want to lose the very fabric of her being. The whole reason she can be who she wants to be. Luz can’t even bear the mere thought of being ripped away from the people who make her happy to be who she is, being ripped away from the people she loves, love that she has never experienced before. I knew if she goes back to the human world, she won’t have her friends from the Boiling Isles anymore. I get that. But I think it’s when I realized, it was more than that. Again, Luz losing the most pure and bombastic kind of love she has never known. Her first girlfriend, people that understand her. A surrogate mother. A little brother. A found family. It’s achingly tragic, because I think of it’s reality that it holds for a lot of people. I don’t know, I’m just very scared how everything is going to be wrapped up and fixed, because I too, can’t bear the idea of these characters being separated. The very idea of Luz having nothing is enough to break an entire fandom.

So, since I can't find a ship chart with all the characters I'm just going to list all the pairings I like and why:
OTP's:
Luz/Hunter: We all know why at this point...
Ships that I like a normal amount:
Luz/Willow: They can empathize with one another because of their past experiences with bullying. They'd have a very cute friends to lover arc.
Gus/Mattholomule: They have a nice and funny rivals to friends to lovers set-up.
Amity/Willow: They also have a nice rivals to lovers set-up. However, this one has the potential to be really dramatic and can lead to a great redemption arc for Amity. I really enjoy the trope where childhood best friends have a falling out, but rekindle their friendship later in life. If I was gonna do a rewrite I'd just change Amity to Willow's rival instead of bully. Since Boscha already fills the "bully" spot just fine.
Luz/Willow/Hunter: I know this one is weird since Ive ragged on Hunter/Willow in the past. But honestly i think they'd be very entertaining to watch because their personalities work well together. I really enjoy the crazy domestic life aspect of this one.
Crack Ships:
Okay so this one isn't a ship: Steve -> Lilith. I like to entertain the idea that Steve had a major crush on Lilith during his training years.
Eda/Steve: 😭 PLEASE don't judge me too hard for this one. I just... I just think Steve is a 28 year old bisexual man who's really into people who are significantly older than him. I have no canon basis for this. I'm just picking up on the vibes he's putting out... which tell me he would like some love from a certain older yet foxy badgirl...

Overall thoughts on “Clouds on the Horizon” so SPOILERS AHOY!
I really am freaked out at how casual Belos is about replacing Hunter. Also does the collector really think someone who can throw away people like that will keep his end of the bargain? Obviously later he expresses doubt.
Kiki getting demoted was good to see at first since she’s so terrible, but it makes me wonder who is the coven head then? I’m also still confused as to how the Emperor’s coven fits into all of this. They are not one of the 9 that the draining spell seems to require. Will they alone be saved?
Odalia really threatening to divorce her husband early on is yikes. Man I can’t believe she thinks she will be spared and is going along with the whole plan. She is far worse than I thought. Also saying that Luz wasn’t good enough for her daughter was terrible. By the end of the episode I really just wanted Alador to take his kids and be like I’ll see you in court. Also King is MVP for telling Alador. Without him they would have been screwed.
About the CATS plan, at first I was really confused about why they didn’t insist on using Lilith, but then I remembered that her coven sigil for the emperor’s coven probably renders her unable to take Raine’s place or anyone else’s given it seems the emperor’s coven isn’t part of the draining spell or at least must be a different function.
Seeing Luz make a palisman egg was not something I expected as of course it’s something we didn’t know could be done. The palisman choosing it’s form. Ah the suspense! I really wanted to see what it was.
Eda was giving off death flags, with her goodbye to Luz. Her getting a coven sigil felt so wrong. I hope they find a way later ok to remove them. I really liked Luz asking Raike to watch out for Eda. I really hope they can keep them safe, but it seems that unsurprisingly that Belos knew about CATS. My guess is Terra never bought Raine’s acting which Darius said was terrible, and it last episode their cover was blown from Luz’s argument/rescue. Terra might have even recognized Eda when she noticed her terrible disguise.
Seeing the Hexside squad all together including Hunter was great! Poor kid is terrified though and like I thought is keeping the grimwalker thing to himself. So confirmed even more that he’s a clone of the dead brother and that Philip killed him. Grimwalker seem more like homunculus. One of the books he was reading in labyrinth runners was called grimwalker extinction. I kind of wonder if they were like a common trope inDungeons and dragons and were a race that was created to be slaves and they rebelled and were destroyed. Good to know he did hear the human and witch hunter thing though. Gosh that makes his fear of Belos even more real and understandable because that means he also heard Belos say he was going to make a new grimwalker to replace him. Man I’m so sad we aren’t getting a proper season 3. This feels like Zuko joining the gaang at the last half of the season and not getting a lot of time with the squad.
Luz and Amity were so cute. Also the animation step up on that kiss was crazy. Kudos to the staff for this on screen LGBT+ rep!
Man that fight at the end was cool! Also really cool to see oracle magic on display. I knew something was up after Luz whispered to Gus and then “Luz” uses Hunter’s teleport to save Willow which we have never seen her do, Gus having illusions up, then “Hunter” was acting a bit too Luz like. Willow practically was ready to tear Kiki to shreds to save Hunter. She is crazy strong. When I saw the robot take off I got really scared for Hunter, but then I saw “Luz” continuing to not use glyphs and had a fists up pose and I realized what happened. Luz is such a kind person protecting Hunter(although she also probably wanted to go directly to Belos for Eda’s sake)
Willow and Amity were ready to chase down Kiki. Alaador being a good person saying he would welcome Luz. And yeah now the plan is revealed. I wonder if Hunter will be able to go along to rescue Luz. I’m sure he wants to, but he is terrified to face Belos. Will he have enough courage? I think he will, maybe with some encouragement from the squad. Maybe even tell them the grimwalker thing? They have yet to say that it was Belos’s brother so I am expediting that to be dramatically revealed to the characters next episode.Although I almost wonder if they will be able to do anything… there is gonna be a lot going on next episode.
Luz I think will probably free the collector to save Eda and that’s how she gets posed like everyone was theorizing l. King’s connection to the collector….I wonder if it will extend to Luz if she gets possessed.
What a great episode!
Next episode is gonna be a doozy….

TOH Fanfic recs! Part 1
(All of these people are my inspiration I stg)
Found family
Make my heart your home series by @tiredandjaded
First fic: Luz accidentally calls Eda "mom" and they both have a crisis over it. Mostly Luz. Second fic: post-YBOS, Luz tells Eda and Lilith of what happened during the rescue mission, and both Luz and Eda give Lilith a shovel talk. Third fic: Luz and Eda are both taking care of each other in the first seven days after coming home. Includes fun sibling bonding!
(Patiently awaiting the next chapter of the third installment!)
Literally anything by @hereforthehurts
The way they write emotions and hurt/comfort is seriously amazing. Never fails to make me cry, especially when it comes to sickfics and fics of Eda and Luz. (I recommend supporting them on Ko-Fi!)
You Are My Sunshine by @liesminelli
One of the first Owl House fics I ever read, and it's SO good! Luz has a night terror and Eda walks in on her freaking out, and it goes from there. The emotions of both characters are very well-written, and the ending is so sweet! I also recommend checking out their other works too!
It's The Least I Could Do by @witchesbeforewizardss
There aren't enough fics of Luz and Lilith bonding, and this is one of the BEST ones. Lilith needs more healthy relationships, and in my opinion, building an aunt-niece relationship with Luz is a great place to start! (next to making amends with Eda) Basically, Luz is feeling homesick, and before dinner, she allows Lilith to help her feel better.
Luz's Not So Great Luck and
A Friendly Beastly Surprise by @animerunner
The first fic has a large abundance of angsty scenarios, mostly AUs, all of which are wonderful to read. My personal favorite is the one where Luz is an orphan and she has a chronic illness, and well, you'll have to read to find out! The second one is canon compliant, and it's about Eda turning into the Owl Beast and treating Luz like an owlet, and Luz is just like "guess this is my life now". It's so cute!
Rainy Day Makeovers by @fallenflowersfromgrace
To summarize, There's boiling rain, and Luz convinces Eda to spend time with her giving each other makeovers. It's very cute, and I love it!
Some Honesty Before Breakfast by @pizzaboat
Eda notices Luz is acting unusual, and gets her to open up. It's in-character, and wonderfully executed.
Thank you for being in my life by @peridot-garcia
Episodes of The Owl House from Eda's perspective, and as of now, also Luz and Lilith's perspective. It's got wonderful found family scenarios, and so far the plot is pretty great!
Lighting up the Dark by The_Quoter
This is a very recent one, and I love it! It's post-Young Blood Old Souls, and Eda comes to terms with how much Luz means to her, while also helping her come out of a nightmare.
The Light Behind Your Eyes by ABirdinFlight
Post-Young Blood. Eda gives Lilith a shovel-talk (harsh but well-deserved) and has a heart-to-heart talk with Luz in her room.
Moonlit Masquerade: Replacement by Rohad
Similar to make my heart your home, Luz accidentally calls Eda "mom" and both of them have a crisis over it. (As expected!)
Bad Days by @drabbles-of-writing
Part of their Four Years AU, Luz has an episode, and Eda takes her home to help her calm down. It's very bittersweet and heartfelt.
Gratuitous Embellishments of Chicken Noodle Soup by Rulerofthecosmosandsnails
Luz almost drowns at the Knee, but her Owl Mom is there to help her get better, including making her soup! (Yeah, my fic Snow Day was inspired by this)
A Line Crossed by Clevinger
AU in which Luz dies by the spikes at the bridge, in front of Eda, who thankfully resurrects her, and as expected, Luz is having a hard time handling it. There's another work inspired by it called Too Much, Too Late by TheHonestyBird.
A nightmare and a hug by moreteaplease
Reeaaally hard to find since it doesn't have the relationship tag for Luz and Eda, but still, it's very good! Post-YBOS, Luz has a nightmare and goes to Eda for comfort, confessing that she misses her mom.
Sleepless Nights by @snail-watch
Similar to the one before this, Luz has a nightmare and goes to Eda for comfort. I loved the way the author wrote Eda's thoughts about Luz!
Mending Trust by @electricwalkman
Similar to The Light Behind Your Eyes. Eda puts Luz to bed, and Luz tells her about the portal being destroyed, and gives her the mask piece. Eda comforts her, as well.
Night Owl and
The Bad Dream Club by @thedrunkenwerewolf / @wolfiethewriter
Eda has trouble sleeping, Luz notices, and Eda confessed that she's scared of hurting Luz as the beast. Luz of course, reassures her by telling her it won't happen. The second fic is the other way around, sorta. Luz has a nightmare and gets herself a drink to calm down, and Eda finds her.
Dreams of a Witch by TheDinosaurNerd
Eda talks to her younger self in her mindscape about her life as a wild witch. (In the end it turns out to be Luz in her lap.)
Griffon Flu by @serendipitouslyss
Another great sickfic! Luz gets the flu, or Griffon Flu as it's called in the Boiling Isles, but Eda and King are more than willing to help her get better.
Owlet by spotty8bee
Ah, the cursed AU that started it all. Only 2 chapters, but it's wonderfully heartbreaking and you really feel for Eda in the second half of chapter 1.
Observations of the Witchy Kind by JoLau
If you like platonic cuddling, you'll love this fic! Luz wants to learn about witch biology, but unfortunately Boscha burns the notebook that had her research, so she tries to rewrite her observations, and ends up catching Eda's attention.
I Need You, Please Don't Leave Me by rainbowpotato12
Luz is having bad thoughts, and worries that something bad could happen to Eda again, but Eda reassures her it won't.
This is Home by SpaghettieBabie
Luz has doubts about herself, and opens up to Eda about it, confessing that she likes her as her mother figure.
I Love the Found Family Trope! by @l-egionaire
Takes place after The Intruder. Eda thinks that Luz and King might leave her after knowing about the curse, and they tell her they would never do that.
Nightmare by OneandOnlyOllie
Another nightmare fic! Eda comforts Luz after a nightmare. Lilith hears the two, and wants to make things right with Luz.
It was not, in fact, a day out by @pizzaboat
Post-YBOS. Eda turns into the Owl Beast, tries to cuddle Luz, Lilith and King in her nest, and they have to come up with a working scheme to turn her back. Basically The Intruder if Lilith was there.
A broken brain by @pizzaboat
I can relate to this one a lot (except my adhd is diagnosed). Luz has trouble focusing on homework, and doesn't know why, and tells Eda she thinks she's going crazy, but Eda tells her she's not, and that Lilith had a similar problem.
What big claws (to protect you with my dear) by @ito-itonomen
AU where Luz is 10 and Eda takes her in, and both of them have doubts about themselves. Chapter 2 is especially good.
Unexpected Hope by @sepublic
Luz talks to Lilith about how she had (surprisingly) inspired her.
Lilith and Eda
Mistakes Might Have Been Made by @fallenflowersfromgrace
WARNING: you will definitely cry in the second chapter!
An AU in which Lilith split the curse with Eda the first time she transformed. Of course, by the time she reveals that she cursed her, it doesn't go well. (Eda's reaction hurts, but it's in character) and the pain in chapter 2 is just…AGONY AND ITS SO GOOD!
Walk Through the Storm, I Would by @lilithswxfe
Trigger warning for self harm and suicidal thoughts in this fic.
Lilith tries to hurt herself while in a bad state, but Eda catches her and comforts her.
Source Decay series by @tiredandjaded
Trigger warning for underage drinking in the second fic.
Two pre-canon fics about Lilith and Eda, the first fic portraying Eda as trans and how she's feeling about her name, and how Lilith helps her. The second one is sadder, it's after the curse and Eda isn't taking Lilith coming home late very well, leading to some…not-so-great coping mechanisms.
Rabbit Heart by radiantstaber
It has found family Owl Mom moments, but then it is mostly about Lilith and Eda rebuilding their relationship, with Luz trying her best to encourage both of them. (The description is very funny, describing the Owl House as a get along shirt.)
The Cafeteria Incident by @electricwalkman
Remember that page from Eda's record about Eda summoning abominations because somebody stole Lilith's lunch money? This is based on that, and it's SO GOOD!
Runaway Raven by @witchesbeforewizardss
Trigger warning for graphic injuries
In both Lilith thinks she doesn't belong with her family in the Owl House, and tries to "punish" herself. Eda convinces her that it's not worth it and she just wants her sister back.
The Long Night by @serendipitouslyss
Post-YBOS, just like The Light Behind Your Eyes. Eda puts Luz to bed, and she and Lilith have a long talk. (Though she's not as harsh.)
A Midnight Talk by @elizabethemerald
Lilith sees Luz having a nightmare, and calms her down for a little bit (via stroking her hair). Eda sees her, and the two have a talk.
I Need a Moment to Quiet This Pain by @come-unhinged
Moments in Eda's life and how she dealt with her curse.
Part 2 might have Lumity idk

FULL REVIEWS: “Wing It Like Witches”
Damn, that last episode was something. It was so much of something that the hype for this episode didn’t come until after they released a screenshot of Amity in the grudgby uniform. Everyone predicted that this was the episode that had Amity join The Owl House squad and...they were right.
The Lumity Trilogy ends with a sports balls game.
Tumblr media
The cold open starts with Boscha of all people.
Tumblr media
It’s grudgby season again and all I can think of is “Wow how lucky is Luz to enroll in Hexside during the semester where shit happens.” Is the first semester the boring one with no holidays and/or events?
Anyway, I grew up in South Texas where high school football was treated like the biggest deal. I get why Boscha is being treated the way she is, and so does she.
Boscha goes to school expecting a hero’s welcome, but gets pissed when the attention is given to Willow.
Tumblr media
Willow tells Luz that ever since she patched things up with Amity, she’s been feeling more confident. That’s really good character development. Without her resentment toward Amity (who was her oldest friend), Willow feels like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders. All that hate and sadness was bringing her down, but without it, she’s free to blossom.
Tumblr media
I don’t mean to quote Penn & Teller but, “And then there’s this asshole.”
Boscha is so not okay with Willow being happy with herself and just picks on her harder. Especially since it’s grudgby season and she knows she can get away with it.
Tumblr media
Amity tells her to grow the fuck up, and Boscha lets it slip that ever since grom Amity has been “getting soft.” This does fucking nothing since Boscha literally spends all day following Willow and friends all day picking on them like crazy. Like damn bitch, don’t you have anything else do do? Don’t you have any life outside of Willow’s?
Tumblr media
People ask why I don’t ship Willow and Boscha and this is why. I get enemies to lovers. I get the bully becoming the love interest. Hell, it’s happening with Amity right now. But this is too needlessly cruel for my taste. There’s not way the Defeat Equals Friendship trope is going to work here. Not for me. But hope comes in the form of a useless lesbian.
Tumblr media
Amity literally gay panics after getting ‘nam flashbacks of dancing with the girl she likes in the moonlight. Luz asks Amity for help about Boscha, and based on Amity’s answer, I don’t think Amity has ever liked Boscha. She agrees that Boscha is difficult to tolerate. It’s even worse during grudgby season because it becomes all the thinks about. Luz gets the wrong idea from that.
Tumblr media
After literally pelting Willow with garbage, Luz challenges Boscha to a grudgby match for Willow. Again Luz’s character flaw of overstepping her bounds comes back. She never even considers what Willow might want or the fact that Willow has never even played grudgby before in her life. And that’s when another of Luz’s character flaws comes back hard. This time it’s Luz expecting life to play out like a story, or more specifically, a sports movie.
Tumblr media
Holy crap. Is that the thorn-vault? I’ve never noticed that before.
Luz thinks that if they just try really hard they’ll beat someone who has been excelling at the sport for years. No. That’s not how life works, sweetie. I’m starting to think that maybe Luz’s mom was on to something sending her to camp.
Luz manages to convince Willow and Gus to be on board, but Amity...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She’ll be in her bunk.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile in the B-plot (that should be my t-shirt by now), Eda is talking about her time when she was star player of her grudgby team when Lilith makes an unexpected appearance to arrest Eda. Lilith notices that Eda is wearing her old ass grudgby uniform and Eda’s response made me laugh.
“No reason. It’s laundry day.”
Lilith gives Eda a quick reality check to remind her that while Eda was good...
Tumblr media
Lilith was better.
This photo really confused me and took me a while to realize that that was Eda and Lilith. Lilith gave herself a serious make over after school. Straightened her hair, darkened it, got ride of the glasses. I didn’t even recognize her.
Since we all got grudgby on the brain, Eda makes a bet. She’ll go with Lilith to The Emperor peacefully if she can beat her in a game of grudgby. Luz is always pulling stuff like this and it works out for her, so why not? Speaking of which.
Tumblr media
Willow and Gus teach Luz about grudgby. Luz teaches Willow and Gus about montages and it does not go well at all. The grudgby, I mean. The montage was great.
In fact it’s so bad that Willow confronts Luz about the thing I was just talking about earlier. You can’t just shonen hero through all your problems. Willow and Gus give up and just leave.
I hate comparing shows because I believe they should stand on their own, but this really does remind me of when Lotte got mad at Akko in Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade. Being innocently insensitive plus expecting life to play out like a movie is not a good combo.
Tumblr media
Luz and Amity have a heart to heart. Luz’s character flaws do come from a place love. Willow is one of the best friend’s she’s ever had and it hurts to watch her get picked on. She’s not trying to make things worse but growing up on a diet of movies and cartoons, this is the only thing she can think of.
Tumblr media
Amity reveals that she actually used to be a jock. No joke. She was the captain of the grudgby team before Boscha. But Amity decided to make the game all about her and her teammates got hurt. So felt so bad that she never played again. Amity is rough around the edges, but deep down she’s always cared about people.
Tumblr media
Another gay panic later, and Luz gets the right idea this time. Luz forfeits the game and agrees to take all of Willow’s punishment so that Boscha will stop picking on her.
Tumblr media
Bitch, works for me! Think fast!
Amity senses the obvious and immediate danger and goes for help. She reminds Willow and Gus that Luz always has good intentions and needs help because that’s what friends do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This isn’t about “friendship” is it?
Gus and Willow show up to save Luz but you need three on a team. And in true sports movie fashion, the hero arrives in the eleventh hour to save the team. I.E. the only player who is actually good at the game gives the good guys a chance to win.
Tumblr media
Let’s get it on!
It’s game on and for a bunch of nerds the game is actually pretty competitive. It’s a magic sport, so Willow focuses on the magic while Amity focuses on the sport. Luz being Luz, even congratulates the other players when they score. Luz discovers every RPG players favorite spell, fire.
It looks like our heroes pull off the victory in true sports movie fashion when this happens.
Tumblr media
I stand by what I said last time. Someone on The Owl House thinks Harry Potter is really fucking stupid. Boscha catches the rusty smidge which means she automatically wins and Luz let’s out two decades of Harry Potter frustration.
But she has a point. If the golden snitch gives your team 150 points and ends the game then the only way to play would be to play defensively and focus all your efforts on finding the snitch. It means there’s literally only one decent way to play the game if you want to win.
“That just invalidates all our efforts! If catching that thing is so important, why do anything else!? There’s no reason to watch any of the other players! THAT’S SUCH A STUPID RULE!”
You tell them, Luz.
But in a twist that everyone saw coming, all the other players (Skara, Cat, Amelie) all had so much fun playing that they invite Willow to join the team. Willow politely declines because Boscha.
But we can’t have Amity help with the season finale so she hurt her leg. Amity panics at the thought of Luz carrying her, so of course Luz picks her up.
Tumblr media
“Oh. Wow. Sports.”
Speaking of sports.
Tumblr media
It’s game on at The Owl House and Lilith and Eda have a one on one match that’s really close. Eda decides to cheat her way to victory until.
Tumblr media
Dammit, Luz!
Eda wins and Lilith vows to return.
Tumblr media
The episode ends with Amity joining the fam at The Owl House.
FINAL SCORE: 5 - LOVED IT!
This episode was the best of fun episodes combined with the development of Amity episodes and you get probably my favorite episode. This was so fun and touched on most of the major characters. Even the B-plot is important because now Lilith knows the location of The Owl House. The jokes were funny. It was cute. Just everything.
Tumblr media
The Lumity Trilogy ends on a high note. Amity is officially crushing hard on Luz.

So today is fanfic writers’ appreciation day (thank you to @openheartfanfics for reminding us of that) and I just wanted to log in for a bit to show some writers my love because y’all are the backbone of our society. Without you, we would’ve all been miserable. So I’m just going to tag some of the writers that come to mind and while I would love to tag each and every single one of you but I’ll probably forget someone so I’m really sorry for that. You are all super talented and I’m in awe of each one of you beautiful people.
@terrm9 Terr, darling, I could write an entire book about how amazing your writing is and how much I love it. You’re an incredible writer and person. The writing style is so beautiful and unique and simply ethereal and I’m so in love with it. Every single time I read a fic of yours, no matter how many times I did, I always marvel at how one can possess so much talent. There is not one trope that you cannot write. How you write the characters, their emotions, you always know the characters and how they think, they would act so well, it’s insane, how you describe everything, the surroundings, what the person is doing, everything is always so perfect. Your mimi series The Couple & The Others is one of my favorites and it's comforting to me, it makes me feel at home. Cieli di Toscana is also a favorite of mine. I love everything about that fic so much. I also love your ch. 11 rewrite with the prompts "There are people who love you" and "Give me a hug, please". I adore the hurt/comfort in those two. The angst is just ugh- it's so good, way too good and it destroys me. As well as A thousand moons, a thousand waves, goodness that fic is just pure and utter perfection, I have no words to describe it. And How much mystery, this love of mine...wow. Seriously wow, I still haven't recovered from how amazing it was. It's so beautiful, they say they're so soft and tender with each other, it's perfect, so perfect. And of course, your you give it to me anyway series is one of the best things I've ever read and I have reread it so many times to the point where I'm not even sure it's healthy. I love it, I love it, I love it, more than words can say. And your OCs, Chiara, Lina, the Ray family, you always know how to make them feel so real. You are truly so magnificent and I just love you and everything you do<3333
@jamespotterthefirst Bree! God, where do I even start? Everything you do is out of this world. Other than the fact that you're extremely kind and funny, you're so wonderfully talented and I love you. The dynamics between Lilac and Ethan are everything, EVERYTHING I TELL YOU. I love how you include the gang as much as you do and how you write them. And while I absolutely love every single fic you write, For A Long Time Now and Most Beautiful will always have a special place in my heart. And I don't think I have to tell you how much I love Lilac. I adore that woman with my entire heart. She's amazing and I would do anything she asks me to. Thank you for creating her and just got being such an incredible part of this fandom❤
@writer-ish Kat, your writing is so stunning. Like, everything about it is so amazing. The way you write Brooke and Ethan, their banter, Brooke's sass, your smut, just everything is pure perfection. I love everything you write but makai is just something else. I especially love B&E in it for some reason, just them being so in love and soft with each other. And you know how much I love Brooke. I would choose her over Ethan any day. She's just incredible and Ethan should worship her like the goddess she is, period😌
@the-pale-goddess Hilde, my angst and smut Queen, there are no words, absolutely none, to describe how much I love your writing. Ma'am, is there anything you can't do? (Other than not break our heart further, of course. One of these days you're gonna need to pay for my therapy. I cannot count the amount of times I was like: I'm feeling pretty happy today. Let me go to Hilde's masterlist and break my own heart. I actually do that so many times, it's pretty concerning.) I'm so in awe of everything you do, your angst? Unmatched. Your smut? So freaking hot. Your fluff? Makes my heart melt. Running to the Edge of the World and (as much as I shouldn't be admitting this in public but) Cabin Fever are just amazing, AMAZING. Puncture Wound is also one of my favorites of yours, the angst, the longing. God, it's so perfect. Conquest is superior to anything, everything and everyone. And of course, Contaminated. That fic breaks my heart yet I read so often that I almost know it by heart. I love LOVE Ethan and Tiffany's relationship even if I am a bit jealous of Ethan. They're the OTP, period. And um... Can I please have Miss Addams' hand in marriage? Like, you can call me Pietro mf Maximoff because I will take a bullet for her. I may also have some unresolved trauma and mommy issues but I promise, I will not make her wait two years just to commit or run to the Amazon and sleep with a coworker. She's my Virgo Queen and I'm so in love with her. The point is, your writing is perfect and I love it so much❤❤❤
@monsoonblooms12 Manamee, you beautiful soul, we don't deserve you and your mind blowing talent. Everything you write is just beautiful and my mind cannot process how you do it. Your fics, your edits, your moodboards, there is nothing you're not good at. And you're such a wonderful person and it makes me want to cry sometimes. I love you, darling❤❤
@blossomanarchy I read your meet my MC posts (and I will get to reblogging those later. I have them in my drafts. I just don't really have any energy at the moment.) and I love Amelia so much. She's already one of absolute favorite MCs. I truly look forward to your fic (if you ever decide to post it, I will be eagerly waiting for it and I have no doubt it will be magnificent) And your moodboards are absolutely stunning. I could stare at them for hours, hell, even the rest of my life. They're so freaking pretty!!💗💗
@takemyopenheart Avy, you're so freaking talented and I love your writing super much. Luz is amazing and I love her more than words can say. I adore her relationship with Ethan so much. Your fluff is god-tier and your smut is just *chef's kiss* as well as your angst. Yours were some of the first fics I read for OH and I still love them just as much as the first time I read them if not more.💕💕
@mvalentine Mal, goodness, you are a godsend to this fandom. I cannot, for the life of me, find the words to properly describe how freaking amazing your writing is. Lana is a Queen and I'm in love with everything about her. Like, I need her to reject me so I can move on already. I love the way you write L&E. They're such an amazing couple and they have my whole heart (also, ngl, I miss them like crazy). Hold On To Me makes me sob every time I read it and it was heaven a moment ago is one of the most beautiful things I have ever read in my life, the sheer beauty of it, it's poetry. You're incredible, my dear and your writing is so beautiful.<333
@genevievemd Sara, from the minute I read your first fic, I knew you were an incredible writer and I was so right. I love everything about your writing, everything. G&E are couple goals and I love them so much. Your angst kills me every single time. Like, you seriously need to stop hurting me so much, I can't take it anymore. But seriously, you're extremely talented and I love you❤❤
@stygianflood Hiya, I just spent a good five minutes trying to come up with any words to describe how freaking beautiful and otherworldly your writing is and I couldn't find any because it's truly undescribable, in the best way possible. Like the Shoreline and the Sea and Bridge over Troubled Water always bring me an immense amount of comfort. They feel like a warm hug even though they hurt. I've binged your masterlist so many times and I still can't process how you're so talented.❤❤❤
@anntoldst0ries Ann, my love, I don't know how to put into words how much I adore you and your writing. It's freaking poetry. It's so smooth. Like I could be reading one of your fics and I come across a line that is just so utterly beautiful and I'm just like: how?? How can one be so talented and come up with such beautiful lines? Lost in Translation is one of those fics that I cannot process because it's so incredible, it's so unbelievable how you manage to capture Ethan's character and thoughts and emotions so well. Coda is just perfection, girl, your smut is so good. And as much as I love all your fics, Shinrin-Yoku will always be my favorite. I love how you write about Noelle's metal health. It makes her feel so real and I really do appreciate that fic so much. You're incredible and your writing is just so magical and I will forever be so in awe of you.💗💗💗
@gryffindordaughterofathena Dri, god, I have no clue how you do it but you always manage to leave speechless and awestruck by your writing. It's so poetic and beautiful and I love everything about it. The way you write the characters and their emotional will always make me so damn emotional. You're just so brilliant and I love all your work so much.❤❤
@starrystarrytrouble All hail Queen Ruby, our savior from the nightmare that was OH3 canon. I know you're not here these days but I just wanted you to know that I appreciate you and all the work you've put into this fandom so much. You're so so incredibly talented. E&E are god-tier and I love them so much, more than I can put into words. Secret is one of my favorites mainly because I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers but also because I love E&E in that fic so much. Also, Anonymous! That fic is everything, I love it so much. And Eve is just amazing. I love everything you create and I miss you💕💕💕
@writinghereandthere Ana, I know we haven’t interacted before and that I haven’t reblogged any of your fics before but I seriously love your writing so so much. I’ve read and reread your masterlist more times than I could count and every single time, I was left more in awe of you than the last. Your writing style is just so beautiful and so magnetic. Like, if anyone interrupts me while I’m reading one of your fics, they can say bye bye to the world. Your do you fear death? series is just something else. It’s so out of this world. Fourteen Hours is amazing, it was the first fic I read of yours and it made me fall in love with your writing, the first I read it, I immediately loved it so much. I love how you write Mariana and Ethan so much, they’re everything. And I'm so in love with Mariana. God, she's so perfect! And Two Days breaks my heart every time I read it but it’s one of my comfort fics. More Than A Drawer is also a favorite of mine. I love the domesticity of it so much. And Golden! God, that fic! How the hell did you write that?? It’s so fucking brilliant and I don’t have the right words to describe it. Also!! Finer Things is one of the best things I have ever read. I am an absolute whore for Harper Emery and that masterpiece just increased that. It’s so magnificent! You’re just so freaking incredible and I will always wonder how you’re so so talented❤️❤️
I'm pretty sure I forgot some amazingly talented people and I'm so sorry for that, truly. Your fics have always been a source of comfort to me. During some of the worst times in my life, I would always find happiness and comfort in your beautiful creations. Hope all of you are having a great day and I hope you know how truly appreciated you are💕💕💕💕

Ive seen people question how Lilith could fit in the current owl house dynamic... and while im not sure if she'll come back as a main cast member next season... the current trio (or quad if you count hooty) definitely lack a "straight man" character. If youre unfamiliar with the trope- no, it doesnt mean a heterosexual male character- it means a member of a chaotic group that is there to provide reason, common sense, and in a lot of cases be a stand in for the audience by reacting to the crazy shenanigans the group is going through like how a "normal" person would act. No, such character is not always necessary, but especially in comedy shows, this is really needed. Think Dipper in Gravity Falls, Wirt in Over The Garden Wall, Squidward in Spongebob... now think of a show with a lot of chaotic unpredictable chatacters and no "straigt man"- Teen Titans Go. Especially in groups that have many "crazy" characters, a "straight man" is needed.
"Straight man" doesnt always have to be the party pooper, and they can have their quirks as well. But it has to be someone who usually thinks logically, or at the very least thinks at all before they act, and leans towards Lawful on the alignment chart.
Out of the current owl house residents, im talking the main trio- Luz, Eda and King- they always seemed to split the bill between them. When someone needed to point out how weird something is, theyd have one of the trio say it, but it was never consistent. Which always felt odd to me. So yes, i do feel like Lilith would fit pretty neatly into the current group. Shed only make things better, in terms of character dynamics. She would provide a serious personality to clash with the current residents who all lean into trouble making and chaos.

Week ten! Gosh, it’s been that long already?
I guess this one will be about ten characters from The Owl House. Not my top ten since that would be extremely hard to do because I love so many of them.
1. Luz - Let’s start with our main protagonist, shall we? Luz is wonderful as a main character. I think if she had been onscreen when I was little, I might have been more outgoing about my passion for animation and stories. She’s delightfully, unapologetically weird, and finds this society that accepts her for who she is rather than treating her as someone outside what society has outlined as normal. She has her flaws, like stealing training wands and stuff that usually comes back to bite her, and spins a lot of kid in another world tropes on their head. She’s hilarious, and is a major step forward for so many people.
2. Eda - Our second of three main characters. Disney is in an era where they insist on having child characters as the central focus. DuckTales had to fight to get adult-centered episodes, so having Eda get focus too is a win for us adults who love watching cartoons too. She has a complex past, including being a victim of a crooked system just for wanting her own independence and having a curse that made her life more difficult by draining her magic and turning her into a beast. Nonetheless, Eda stays true to her weird self and keeps finding ways to live her life on her own terms.
3. King - Our third of three main characters. During the whole first season, King was mainly comic relief, with occasional focuses on his abandonment issues and need to be listened to. The second season is really elevating him to another level, showing where he came from, digging further into those issues, and making him an integral part of the season’s arc. Eda has raised him to unapologetically be himself, and as tough as it can get to entertain his craving for power, he’s so complex now, and he’s only half Luz’s age.
4. Willow - Willow was the first official supporting cast member, and she’s brought several characters together that have intertwining stories. She represents those who struggled in a field they weren’t passionate about, and blossomed when allowed to switch fields to one they excelled at. She’s friends with Gus, who also struggled in school in different ways, and Amity, who has become so important in her own right. Willow is strong, and I still think she was the reason Hooty was animated during the moonlight conjuring because of her potential.
5. Gus - Gus represents the gifted kid suffering burnout from meeting expectations above his age level. He loves illusions, but has been questioning his potential. He’s a voice for the younger kids who don’t want to be left out and looked down upon purely because of age. He doesn’t always get the focus he should, like being sidelined in Wing It Like Witches when it could have easily been a four on four match instead of three on three, but he’s making his own impact on the show by impressing Mattholomule enough to change his tune.
6. Amity - Amity is more than just Luz’s love interest, she has her own issues to deal with that are very real, such as parents with crazy high expectations dominating her life. She’s a bully who gets better because she finds the courage to make changes to aspects she’s unhappy with and exchange them for something better. Most recently, she is a parallel to Hunter, and their family situations highlight the development she has received and Hunter has yet to go through.
7. Edric - Between the twins, Edric is my favorite because despite all the expectations his parents put him under, he still manages to be a massive dork. He tries tasting things he’s not supposed to, and shares his dad’s interest in beasts even though neither of them were in that track. Ed excels in his classes, and at the same time is a goofball who does dumb things. He is my profile pic for a reason.
8. Hunter - A more recent addition to the cast, Hunter has show a lot of complexity in the few episodes he has shown up in so far. He does what he is told by his uncle, yet still shows goodness by treating Rascal kindly. He is under possibly even more pressure than Amity, and is still finding that support network that will help him change for the better. For how much characters rag on him in the show, he has a lot of skill, and I’m eager to see what else he can do.
9. Lilith - I used to dislike Lilith. She was trying to force her sister to conform to the system, and I understood she was doing it out of love, but still didn’t like that she was doing it in the first place. Now, I enjoy her. It really shows how fun of a character she can be once she’s out of the crooked coven system. She has gained my respect for befriending Hooty when no one else would.
10. Belos - The man, the grand villain himself. Belos is exactly what I pictured for a villain from the show, a creepy emperor with an even creepier backstory in the works. He organized the government of the Isles as we know it now, and destroys palismen for energy. The palisman thing was when I knew he was here to play rather than spectate. His face reveal was a shock with how casual it was, and I can’t wait to find out more about him in the season’s second half.
There are so many rich, complex characters in the Owl House, but we are running the risk of not seeing more.
Here’s how you can help save an important cartoon such as The Owl House:
Write a letter to Disney, not an email, asking them for more The Owl House, and tell them what you love about the show and how much it means to you. Here’s the address:
DisneyTVA
811 Sonora Avenue
Glendale, CA
91201, USA
The USA part is only for international fans, so if you live in the States, you don’t need that part for the address. When writing your letter, remember to be polite and not accusatory or rude, because they will perceive anything sounding accusatory or rude as hate mail and throw it out without consideration. Also make sure to watch The Owl House on Disney + if you have it because they are watching the viewership numbers on there too. Stream it again and again if you can.
Additionally, Rebecca Rose on Youtube found some addresses for some executives that might have the power to greenlight the renewal. Check out my post discussing Yesterday’s Lie for those.
On social media like Twitter, use #MoreTheOwlHouse and #SaveTheOwlHouse as often as you can without being obnoxious about it.
Go Hexside!

Which moments from DuckTales, Amphibia, and Owl House are the saddest so far in your eyes?
I think this is most likely the same Anon ask from before that I haven’t answered, due to being busy with stuff on my end and if so my apologies for not getting back to ya sooner. Without further ado, let’s get this reply started.
To answer this question now, I’d say for DuckTales (2017) anything surrounding Della’s character arc and disappearance that led to serious negative consequences for the entire McDuck family. Last Crash Of The Sunchaser was by far the biggest gut punch of this series easily, no question about it. Scrooge’s silent montage was the most amazingly heartbreaking material that I’ve ever seen from the show and it holds a special place in my heart for doing that. They gave Scrooge a seriously complicated layer of development from that profound revelation of how he did everything in his power and would even risk fucking bankruptcy to find his niece. Also, Lena’s character backstory is another one I’d throw onto the pile. Lena and Della share some of the most dramatic material they’ve been given in the reboot for new character additions whether you’re looking at Lena trying to cope in new ways to all the abuse she suffered at Magica’s hands for years or Della trying to be a better parent and learning the struggles of when to put her foot down on the kids, as seen with the powerfully crafted Timephoon confronting Louie’s selfish actions, which in turn are a reminder for Della’s big mistake of taking the Spear Of Selene because she was so sure of herself as a seasoned adventurer and wanted to go above all else to shower her children with love by as Scrooge said, “Giving them the stars.”. Don’t get me started on Last Christmas either as that’s another bittersweet episode, too. One more I’d throw onto the pile would be Louie’s reprisal of the Moon Lullaby to pick Della up outta her PTSD of losing everything again. She was so sure that a special part of herself didn’t stick with the kids, but Donald made sure it did and I love that moment like crazy from Season 2′s finale, Moonvasion.
Moving on to Amphibia, I’d say this series has managed to deliver some hard hitting material that arguably ties with DuckTales dramatic stuff, too. Sasha’s remorseful suicide attempt in Season 1′s finale shocked the Hell outta me and made myself a guaranteed fan by that point of Ampihba’s storytelling about the concept of friendships and when some can turn into abusive toxic relationships. Amphibia has great build up to that pay off. Marcy’s reunion with Anne I’d say was also pretty sad because underneath all the tearful happiness was Anne’s PTSD from fear of losing another close friend, as if she was her own sister, just like what happened with her falling out against Sasha before. Sprig Plantar’s determination to make Hop Pop proud because he’s so insecure about being the trouble maker in the Plantar family. In other words, anything that revolves around Sprig & Hop Pop’s relationship about getting closer as a family. Polly’s own insecurities about being the youngest can lead to some sad stuff in its own right, like the episode where Anne judges Polly’s spitting as being a “disgusting slob” and Polly Trucker where she felt neglected, too. Amphibia’s Season 2 has been doing an excellent job building upon dramatic material from Season 1, as seen no less with its recent episode, Hopping Mall, where it doesn’t hold back on the underlying message of a parent’s connection with their son or daughter, which in this scenario were Mothers’. Seeing Anne discuss how much she loved these little things, such as her tone deaf singing, showcased the solitude she tries to cope with in this new crazy world she’s been thrown into. Then you got Sprig who puts on a whole cheery facade throughout trying his best to help Anne get that reward prize from Smash & Carts, while hiding all that baggage from never knowing his own Mother because she suddenly passed away when him and Polly were still very young. Like, damn, the silent hug that broke Sprig into tears was a great use of show don’t tell about how these two kids feel in this moment.
Last but not least, The Owl House. Saddest stuff right off the bat are three words. Amity. Fucking. Blight. Her entire character arc is soul crushing because she was raised to be an arrogant piece of crap by her toxic parents, much like Pacifica Northwest in Gravity Falls. However, after meeting Luz she began to finally change seeing all the pure kindness and determination she had at bettering not only just at magic spell casting, but as a person as well. The fact that she gave up her friendship with Willow to save her from being banned from enrolling in the same school together speaks volumes of her love for her former friend, who soon grew deeply bitter at Amity’s shitty behavior toward for from those years forward. That one quote hit me like a truck, “Willow, you were never too weak to be my friend. I was too weak to be your’s...”. Amity’s my favorite character in the series for how well the writers approached the idea of a bully archetype and subverting that trope into something really profound in putting the spotlight on her underlying humanity beneath all that bravado her parents taught her to have. Eda’s complex chemistry with her sister, Lilith, is another one that was sad as Hell. These two sisters used to have a real respect for each other, but their difference in life choices separated them soon afterwards. Every time Lilith interacted with Eda, you could tell she wanted to help her remove the nasty curse that Lilith placed upon her. Lilith really wanted to help Eda, despite working for a seriously corrupt tyrant, just through different means that are very questionable, of course as a well intentioned extremist. Lilith’s immediate regret after saying, “Then why were you so easy to curse!?”, goes on to further reinforce that notion that Lilith felt terrible for putting Eda under a curse that was never her intent to be a permanent spell, but only one for a short amount of time.
So, there you go, there’s detailed my two cents finally. =P

It has been 3 months. 3 months since Thomas told Tara he wasn’t ready to pursue a romantic relationship with her. Tara felt her heart drop at his words as she nodded and smiled, telling him she understood.
Which she did. She shouldn’t have been surprised. Tara knew he was struggling with Soledad’s sudden death. Who wouldn’t? Especially when it left him to raise his daughter alone.
So, she tried her best to move on. They saw each other every day at school drop off in the mornings. Most weekends also because Zoey and Luz were attached at the hip and insisted on having play dates and sleepovers.
It only made moving on harder for her.
Since she started working at Drafthorse Brewing Co. with Levi, they grew closer as well. Most of Tara shifts aligned with Levi’s, not to mention being next door neighbors. Zoey adored Levi as well, loving the nick name “Rocket” he gave her.
Levi was great, and he was interested in Tara. But he never made Tara feel as giddy and lovestruck as Thomas did.
All those thoughts were racing in Tara’s head as she stood outside Thomas’ door. She was dropping Zoey off for a sleepover with Luz.
Things have become slightly awkward since then. She told Thomas, point blank, that she liked him. That’s not something that you can just take back.
Her hands were slightly shaky as she knocked on the door. She took a silent deep breath, hoping Zoey wouldn’t notice her anxiety.
The door opened and there he stood. In his usual casual wear, a sweater that probably costed more than Tara’s rent, and jeans. His hair was styled to perfection. Damn, he looked good.
“Hey guys. Come on in!” Thomas smiled at them both and opened the door wider for Tara and Zoey to enter.
“Zoey!” Luz shrieked, running to Zoey and hugging her tight. Zoey giggled and hugged her best friend back.
“Come on, you have to see the fort I built in my room. It’s soooo cool!” Luz exclaimed, pulling Zoey’s hand.
“Bye mom, love you!” Zoey said over her shoulder as her and Luz raced up the stairs.
“Wow. Now I don’t even get a hug.” Tara chuckled and shook her head.
Thomas laughed also, smiling at Tara. “They’re growing up so fast. Soon they won’t even want to be seen with us.”
Tara nodded in agreement. “Unfortunately, that is true.”
They both stood there, the silence awkward.
“Well, I should get go-“
“Do you want to stay for-“
They both talked at the same time and laughed.
“I was wondering if you wanted to stay for a glass of wine. But if you want to go that’s totally fine. We can do it another time” Thomas said, awkwardly rubbing his neck, cheeks starting to flush.
Tara thought it over, biting her lip.
“Sure that would be nice.”
~~~
An hour and a bottle of wine later, Tara was laughing hard at something Thomas said, wiping a tear from her eye.
“No way. You did not say that in front of a judge!” She said, shaking her head.
Thomas laughed too, bringing the glass of wine to his lips and taking a sip.
“I did and got held in contempt for it!” He chuckled.
They were sitting on Thomas’ couch, sharing work stories for the past hour while drinking an expensive bottle of red wine.
“Well, that’s what makes you such a great lawyer, you have passion. You stand up for your clients, and what you believe in. I wish more people were like you.” Tara said. She suddenly felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her. She took a sip of wine.
Thomas was about to respond, his cheeks flushing, when he was interrupted by the insistent vibrating of Tara’s phone.
“Sorry, just want to make sure it’s nothing important.” Tara said, leaning to pick her phone up from the coffee table.
“No worries” Thomas responded, sending her a smile.
Tara looks over her texts and giggles, typing out a response.
Thomas’ eyebrow raises, wondering who it is. His nosiness got the best of him.
“Who is that?” He casually asked, taking another sip of his wine.
“It’s Levi. He’s telling me that our least favorite customer is at the bar now and how tempted Levi is to spill the guys drink on him.” Tara says with a laugh before putting her phone back down.
“Sorry, where were we?” She asks, focusing her attention back on Thomas.
However, Thomas’ mood had soured. His mind now on Levi.
“So you and Levi are pretty close, huh?” He asked, doing his best to seem casual and unbothered.
Tara shrugged, “I guess. We have been working together a few months. He sometimes watches Zoey for me when I work at the dress shop.” She says, leaning back against the couch.
He gives her a crisp nod, looking away, his muscles tensing. He was confused about the emotions brewing inside him. What was this feeling?
Thomas didn’t understand. He was the one who told Tara he wasn’t ready. But why was the thought of Tara hanging out with this “Levi” guy bothering him so much.
“Hey, is everything alright?” Tara asks, placing a hand on his shoulder.
Thomas clears his throat. “Everything’s fine.”
He gets up off the couch abruptly. He walks into the kitchen, opening a cabinet.
Tara sits on the couch, completely confused. Was it something she said?
She pushed herself off the couch and followed him into the kitchen.
“Thomas, what happened?” She asks, watching as he pulls out another bottle of wine from the cabinet as he pops the cork and pours a generous amount into his glass, taking a sip.
“Nothing. I’m fine.” He says sternly, jaw clenched, not meeting her eyes.
Tara walks closer to him and takes his wine glass from his reach.
“Hey!” Thomas interjects, confused by her actions.
“I think you’ve had enough wine. Alcohol is not the answer to your problems, Thomas. Whatever is going on, you can tell me.” Tara says sincerely, her sparkling eyes searching his.
Thomas takes a deep breath, exhaling through his nose.
“I told you, nothing is going on. I am fine.” He says through gritted teeth.
Tara looks at him, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “Bullshit Thomas. We were having a great time and then all of a sudden something upset you. If it was something I said, I’m sorry.” She says sincerely.
Thomas looks at her and feels an instant pang of regret. Tara did nothing wrong and he was acting like a petty child.
“I know. I’m sorry, Tara, you did nothing wrong.” He says, leaning against the kitchen counter.
Tara slowly approaches him.
“Then what happened?” She asks.
Thomas inhales deeply as she enters his space. He could smell her floral perfume. He could see the baby hairs that are escaping from her messy bun. She looked absolutely beautiful.
“I-I..” He stutters before shaking his head. The concerned look in her eyes driving him wild.
“Fuck it.”
In a split second he reaches out, grabbing her and crashing his lips against hers.
Tara gasps before melting into the kiss, eyes fluttering shut as she gripped his sweatshirt.
Thomas turns them around, pinning her against the counter with his body as he cups her cheek in his hand, gripping her waist with the other.
Tara runs her fingers through his hair, the scent of his aftershave and cologne driving her wild.
She forced herself to push him away.
“Thomas…” She says breathlessly, slumped against the counter.
Thomas instantly steps away.
“God, I’m sorry. That was highly inappropriate of me.” He says, running his fingers through his hair that Tara had messed up.
“No, it wasn’t, you know how I feel. But you said you weren’t ready.”
Thomas sighs. “I know, and I wasn’t. But hearing you talk about Levi made me... jealous”
Tara bites her lip to prevent a smirk. Why does she like the idea of him being jealous?
He steps closer to her again, cupping her cheek in his hand, searching her eyes.
“I know my behavior was stupid and juvenile. I’m not the best at... expressing my emotions at times. But, I’m crazy about you Tara Day, and I’m ready, if you are still interested. I don’t know what’s going on with you and Levi.”
Tara stares at him, her mouth agape.
“I-I.. I’m crazy about you too. Levi is just a friend. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you, as much as I’ve tried.” She says, smiling at him.
Thomas grins at her, feeling his heart began to race. Was this really happening?
“I haven’t either. Thank you for giving me time, but I really am ready.”
Tara wraps her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. Her lips brush against his, teasing him.
“I’m ready too.”
