....I saw a post where it was "jokingly" comparing Obi-Wan's mullet to that onrm of thr colonizer characters from Disney's Pocohontas and I find that NOT funny at all. I look at the comments and they were loling about it (one of them even jokingly accusing the Jedi of being "colonizers" during the CW and THAT comment was made by a white girl no less)...and do these people NOT get that Jedi are inspired by ASIAN culture. I'm so fucking tired of shit like this.
I think this is more a running joke than anything else. I’ve seen a LOT of comparisons of Obi-WAN’s mullet - especially in the new ‘Tales of the Jedi’ mini series. One of them was Prince Charming from Shrek. So as far as that goes, I’m not surprised and I mostly just shrug that stuff up because that part is pretty much a joke.
Jokingly accusing the Jedi of being colonizers is, yes, rather distasteful but also, just a joke. These days, a lot of people like keep going with that line of joking to keep a laugh going. Do I care for the joke? No not particularly, but whatever. It is what it is. (Although I’m not entirely sure what the race of the commenter has to do with anything)
As for the Jedi being inspired by Asian culture, yes you would be correct. I think the keyword is a bit of inspired by. George Lucas was inspired by his interest and I think practice of Buddhism. A lot of what is in the Jedi comes from that inspiration. I see a lot of aspects of religion ma and cultures in just the Jedi alone.
Frankly I think people fail to realize a LOT of Star Wars fans are casual fans. Now, do I agree with some of their stances that the Jedi are actually bad? No, of course not. Even a nine year old knows better. But people have opinions and points of view and well, a large part of the world are very focused on feelings, individualism identity etc. so therefore, there is a lot. But I do realize that many Star Wars fans are, in fact, casual fans. Not everyone realizes that the Jedis culture takes inspiration from Asian cultures. It’s not something they’re thinking about because it’s not the focus of the movies.
People who dive deeper into the lore and the worlds, should know better because well, they are showing interest and when you actually look at these things and take an interest, oh yeah, it makes sense. A lot of average viewers may not know a lot about other cultures especially if they live in a large country and don’t travel a lot and don’t have a specific interest. It’s not bad or mean or anything. It just is.
Anyways, I don’t usually get asks and I probably had more but it’s fine. I think just let it slide off your back. Sure, it can be annoying I imagine but you are going to save yourself from a world of anger, hatred and pain if you just let it go. People are going to think what they are going to think. People are going to hate what they are going to hate and make fun of what they are going to make fun of. Is it great to see? No. Is it annoying? Almost always yes. Of course we want to correct them but that’s probably just going to end up in a pointless fight unless one converses with actual interest and openness of the other side. And jokes? Well. That’s what they are. Whether or not the person believes it in the end, it just is. Working yourself up over it only ends poorly.
In the end, you know better about the content. You know the Jedi are good and you know what they are inspired by. I think that’s what matters.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 1: Prologue
Luke stands and looks at the strangers on his island. Although they are all human, 2 are dressed in dark robes while the other isn’t, giving Luke an uneasy feeling in his stomach. The other girl pulls out Luke’s old lightsaber he lost on Bespin all those years ago. He walks up to the girl and holds the blade in his hands. He looks up to the girl, her eyes full of hope, before pitching the lightsaber over his shoulder and walking off.
Rey was caught off guard by Luke’s response to his old saber and goes back to grab it before looking to her friends for guidance. Aliana, who’s more like a romantic partner than friend, asks what they're both thinking “Should we follow him?”. Varax shrugs but follows Luke until the three of them reach what can only be Luke’s “home”. Rey knocks on the door “Master Skywalker? Are you there?” she asks the door. “Go away” Luke says behind the door like an annoyed teenager.
Aliana, now sick of Luke being an isolated crybaby, kicks Luke’s door down and pins Luke to the wall “Listen here Skywalker, my girlfriend didn’t risk her life, and the lives of the Resistance just for you to sit and your hut and pout” she says angrily.
Luke thinks for a minute, both confused and annoyed but decides to humor these people and get it done and over with “Fine, what do you want?” Luke asks as the girl puts him down. “My name is Rey, this is Aliana and Varax” Rey begins, “The Resistance sent us out to find you, so you could help us fight the First Order” she explains. Luke looks at her and laughs, the other two look at him confused as he dusts off his cloak and walks up to Rey “Not a chance kid” he says before walking out of the hut.
Varax let out a sigh “Guess I should’ve expected this, Jedi that go into isolation usually have a good reason” he says as he walks out and heads back to the Fury.
Aliana looks at Rey “So what now?”
Rey looks down before taking a breath “We keep trying” she says taking a step.
Chapter 2: If at First You Don't Succeed…
Varax sits up on a rock on top of the Fury watching Rey and Aliana try, try, and try again, to convince Luke to come with them. While he’s watching the chaos unfold 2V comes up to visit “How long have they both been at it?” the droid asks as he stands next to Varax. Varax scratches his beard “I’d say about two to three hours, gotta admit they have determination like Jedi” he says as he takes a sip from a tea cup.
Aliana keels over “How… can he keep this up… it’s been… three… hours!!!” she says out of breath. Rey sits back on a nearby rock “I don’t know, but he is REALLY stubborn”. Varax walks up to the two girls with a smirk on his face. “What are you so smug about, smartass?” Aliana says, still trying to catch her breath. Varax only chuckles at the remark “Luke is teaching you both an important lesson in being a Jedi” he says as he takes a sip. Rey looks up at him confused “What lesson? How to run out of breath?” she says weakly. Varax laughs before taking another sip “No. Luke is teaching you about perseverance, by ignoring you both he’s keeping up this game of cat & mouse as you chase him across the island. It’s actually something he used to do to Jedi younglings back when he was a Grandmaster” he says as he pitches the cup over the cliff
The two women look at Varax like he spoke the entire speech in a dead language. Varax laughs “Just don’t talk to him, let him come to you” he says as he walks back to the ship. Rey and Aliana look at each other and shrug, deciding to not wear themselves out any longer.
It takes a couple hours, but Luke comes to the Fury late into the day as the three enjoy some campfire stew made by Aliana.
“Congrats you two, you passed the first test” Luke says with a smile as he sits down next to the trio. “Food smells good” Luke says as he grabs a bowl and ladle and gets a bowl “So you want me to rejoin the fight huh? Did Leia put you all up to it?” he asks as he takes a bite of stew. “Well, Rey here could use a teacher, and we figured you were the best one available” Varax says to the old Jedi Master.
Luke looks at Varax unamusingly, letting out an exhausted sigh “Fine, I’ll teach her the basics of the Force, anything else is up to you to” he says, pointing his fork at Aliana and Varax
“Deal” the three say in unison
Chapter 3: Rock, Rock, Rockin' On A Jedi's Door
Rey wakes up and throws on a coat Varax gave her to keep her warm. She walks up to Luke’s hut and sees a sign on the door labeled:
Dear Padawan Rey,
I am located atop the nearby hill in a monastery
LS
PS: Don’t forget your bag ;)
Rey tilts her head before looking down to her right, next to the door is a bag, filled with rocks. Rey takes a breath and throws the bag over her shoulders as she starts the trek up the hill.
On her way up however, a series of boulders tumble down the hill towards her. In an instant Rey side-steps to try and dodge the boulders, but due to the bag’s weight her movements are slowed.
She narrowly evades the rocks as she runs up the hill, more obstacles stand between her and the path. But Rey gets through them, still holding onto the bag Luke lent her.
She reaches the monastery, tired and out of breath, Luke looks at a stopwatch and scratches his chin “12 Minutes and 33 seconds, not bad kid” he says while sitting atop a large, flat stone. “Please tell me this isn’t gonna be for EVERY lesson Master Skywalker” Rey says as she dusts off her clothes. Luke laughs at the statement “No, I almost destroyed a nearby village earlier, besides the results would have been roughly the same” he says as he reaches into his bag and grabs a pair of sandwiches “Hope you like Porg” Luke says with a smirk as he eats the sandwich.
Rey takes the sandwich and takes a bite, not as good as Aliana’s stew, but food is food.
“I’ll teach you how to use the basics of the Force as per our agreement, and your friends will teach you what I cannot” Luke explains as he gets off the rock
“Now, let’s get started”

🍓 have a picnic (from rey)
"You wanna have a picnic," Sammie asked. He was delighted. He and Rey had been spending a lot more time together and he was more comfortable around her. He had gone into full Golden Retriever boyfriend mode. He was whipped for her.

“ jesus, don’t do that to me ever again! i thought you were dead! ” from Rey
Sammie's pupil's grew wide. He looked at Rey with big puppy-dog-like eyes and pouted. They had planned to meet up at a certain time and he had gotten sidetracked trying to help Chewbacca find his way back to the Falcon.
Sammie felt extremely guilty now, having seen Rey so worried. "I'm sorry," he whispered, lowering his gaze in shame.

Sammie never felt as whole as he felt in that moment. He had grown to see Raithe as some sort of a father figure, but never did he think that Raithe thought of him as family. "Really," he asked, his eyes lighting up.

My #1 post of 2022
Hello! I am Layla and my main blog is @arabianflowers! This is a roleplay blog for the character Sammie from the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel by Walt Disney Imagineering and the very first roleplay blog for a Galactic Starcruiser character! Sammie is my favorite Halcyon Starcruiser character and I feel like I can capture his character really well, so I decided to create a roleplay blog for him!
My rules for roleplaying are listed below!
Tumblr media
RULES
1.) Be kind! That should go without saying.
2.) Do not post inappropriate messages or images.
3.) Do not spam.
4.) Please refrain from swearing or using vulgarity in any way.
5.) I do not roleplay NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content. This is strictly prohibited.
6.) Sammie is not Muslim, but I am, so there are certain things that I might be uncomfortable with roleplaying even though this character is not Muslim. Please be considerate. I do not expect everyone to know about Islam, so I am more than happy to specify my rules and boundaries in that respect if need be.
PREFERENCES
1. I prefer to roleplay only as Sage Starkey's version of Sammie, but I am flexible.
2. I try to be as canon compliant to the Halcyon storyline as possible, but I am flexible! I love interacting with fan-made characters!
3. I prefer to roleplay in third person, but I also like to roleplay limited, typing as if I am the character, and I am flexible about the way that I roleplay, so I am open to discussion. I usually roleplay limited in asks!
4. If you want to roleplay with me, then comment on this post or message me! You can also private message me, but I would prefer for you to request on this blog and then we can take it to private message.
5. I do not track my roleplays and replies, nor am I picky about the way that people organize their blog. If we begin a roleplay and you respond a week or a month later, I will still try to keep the roleplay going! If I have lost the drive or inspiration, I will let you know. All of my posts are also fully available to interact with, so don't be shy to comment or reblog! Roleplay is supposed to be fun, so don't stress yourself out! As long as you follow my rules you'll be all set!
That's it! Have fun!
Sincerely,
Layla

Amphibia and Owl House Weekly Reviews: Escape to Amphibia and Follies at the Coven Day Parade
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello all you happy people! I’m Jake I review animation and comics, and today I resume my regular coverage of both amphibia and owl house... at the same time.
Tumblr media
Yup for these titanic shows final seasons, unless disney gives Owl House a fourth season to either make up for past mistakes or to hastily try and make up for them by shoving a distraction in our faces, whatever works, i’m going to be covering them together and given the recent crossover and abudance of refrences hinting a shared universe between these two shows as well as their spirtual poppa gravity falls, it feels right. This does mean while i’ll stilll be giving these eps as much character and plot analysis as humanly possible, I may not do a blow by blow as it’s still an hour of content I have to cover a week, with the finale likely being an hour or 90 minutes itself. I’m still giving the episoides my full attention regardless.
But before we get this final stretch of normal episodes before a big sized finale for one and three big series ending specials for another, we have some house cleaning to attend to as happens when shows go off the air for several months. Feel free to skip over it and just read the reviews under the cut , otherwiseeee..
1) Don’t Say Gay
Whelp... as usual Disney...
Tumblr media
Now if you want some of my first throughts on that, I did a special that covers the topic along with the episodes Fire and Ice from Craig of the Creek and Father Figures From The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder
But stuff has happened since so if you weren’t aware (which given how gloriously queer my audience seems to be is unlikely), here’s the quick version: Floridia’s state legislation passed a bill that was in short
Tumblr media
Once again holding up that kids aren’t ready to be taught about gay people and shoudln’t know about gay things despite gay parents, teachers and you know CHILDREN existing.
Naturally people hoped Disney would get involved and they had.. just not in a postive way. As I found out after the say gay all you want special thanks to last week tonight, Disney had not only been backing the senators who got the bill through, made it and fought for it, as I knew when i made the article, but have been doing so for over two years. I’m not suprised, Florida is a conservative state and Disney will play ball with whoever keeps their taxes lowest.. but I am disapointed.
Naturally CEO Bob Chapek.. made things even worse by saying that “we’d change things through our content and we have to remain neutral”, like they were switzerland and not a major fucking country. Esepcailly since as I pointed out in the don’t say gay specail, they have a bad habit of canceling or downplaying queer content to appease bigoted assholes and their wallets... or as my boy alex hirsch put it best
Tumblr media
How this affects Owl House should be obvious: Owl House is a heavily queer series with a bisexual protaganist whose love intrest is a lesbian, while also featuring major aromatic and non-binary characters. Disney claimed it wasn’t on brand... which was a thinly veild way of saying not gay enough, as well as part of disney’s long held issues accpeting that shows aimed at kids have multiple demographic appeal much like the MCU and Star Wars.
Dana Terrance was also utterly rattled, doing a stream with some new original content (which I didn’t get around to listneing to because cold, but will try to by next week), and other nice stuff to combat what her company was doing, looking utterly destroyed by being betrayed by disney for a SECOND time. in a row. jesus christ.
Thankfully the backlash against Chapek being stupid has worked for once: Chapek walked back his statement, disney is reassesing donor contributions and the company reinstated a gay kiss they pulled from lightyear. The latter is the bare minmum an dwould’ve been a better statement you know, never having removed it to start, so I have my doubts this will stick.. but hopefully this will force disney to put people over profits and it’s very clear the LBGTQ+ community, myself included, are not going to ease up on them anytime soon.
This could mean season 4 or it could mean dana throwing a possible offer in their face for good reason. I dunno.
2) Merchandising!
Tumblr media
Now onto lighter news shortly before their premires BOTH shows got a big announcment: their getting books! For Amphibia we’re getting Marcy’s Journal, which will give me a holy trinity of journals from disney animated properties made real (there is apparently one from ducktales I haven’t gotten so techincally quadrilogy but still). I will be getting this thing as soon as I can... which could be a while but I intend on grabbings it.
Owl House meanwhile is getting a Light Novel, aka a smaller novel with pictures commonly based around anime, and Dana has confirmed it will be original content not based on any episodes. So while Season 3 is still just three big movies, we may see some things we didn’t get around to in book form.
So with that we’ve taken care of business, every day, let’s get to the good, the bad and the gravy of this weeks episodes. This is Owl House and Amphibia, together for the last time, full spoilers and analysis under the cut.  Let’s do this!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Escape to Amphibia
Something I noticed about Amphibia after this episode, in part thanks to binging a ton of TotallyNotMark and falling in love with shonen manga all over again, is that when you step back the story is neatly broken down in to 6 parts, sagas, arcs, however you want to put it. We have the first season-long Wartwood arc where Anne slowly grows as a person and we get used to the world, the road trip to get to newtopia, newtopia where we get to know marcy a bit and get to see another side of the world, the temple arc where our heroes return home while also trying to do the same for anne, and with this episode we bring an end to the earth arc, as Anne leaves earth and returns home for the Final Arc, bringing everything together hopefully in a big climax.
And that’s... why this ep felt off for me. See when the other arcs as they were ended we felt it and there was a bit dramatic moment to make this feel ike the end of one story as it lead us to the next part of the overall epic: Sasha and Grime disappearing with Sasha’s fate and feelings unknown as Anne somberly but hopefully looked to the future with her found family, the Plantars and Anne crying their eyes out as she decides to spend some time with them while Andrias manipulates marcy into his masterplan, and of course andrias winning, stabbing marcy and leaving sasha and grime to unknown fates as our heroes end up stranded on earth. Even season 1a, while not necessarily the end of the wartwood arc, had a big milestone in anne earning most of the town’s love by protecting them while we learned just who sasha was.
And most of those endings came either at the halfway point or end of a season, a marker to show how far we’d come. And at the time Froggy LIttle Christmas felt like that: terri was building the portal, the it gals and polly were working on frobo, we had setup for the goverment learning more about the plantars via the parade, andrias having his army ready, and anne finally contacting her gf’s parents. All seeds that would surely lead to several more episodes on earth right?
Tumblr media
Yeahhhh instead of some more build up before anne goes back... she just goes back after the break, that part of the story ends, and we’re in the final stretch.  And as you can probably wager, I have some mixed emotoins. ON the one hand I do get that matt likely needs the last batch to truly deliver on the end of things, and thus had to rush the earth portion’s ending so he could get to the final battle with andrais. This is what the series has been building to, this is what we’ve been leading to, this is where our energy needs to be.
On the other.. it feels like they rushed everything BUT anne’s relationship with her parents. Her feeling bad about possibly leaving them again here does work: this time she knows she’s leaving and may not come back and it’s hitting harder, especailly now their closer thanks to her growth as a person. Their gentle acceptance of this and their encouragment when mr. x downtalks her, now having accepted she’s grown into so much more than they coudl’ve imagined, is so fucking beauitful and well thought out.
That being said it feels weird after mr and mrs b were pumped up so much as characters that they get left behind. It’s for good plot reason, someone needs to tell mr.x what’s really going on and I do feel that’ll play into the climax... but it feels weird leaving these new main characters behind when there’s so much potetial in bringing them to Amphibia. My best guess is Braly might of conisdered it but it cluttered things a bit too much. We’lll see as we go I guess.
The rest of the payoffs though feel luke warm: while Mr. X was an x-cellent nemisis, sending him off after only three episodes not only feels weak, but it felt like they had to make some contrivances for this plot to even work. In his previous apperances he found the plantars thanks to easily found evidence and hard work and at first this ep works on that: for starters his superiors gladly up his budget once he has hard proof and don’t doubt him on a few botched missions: they know he’s hunting people who don’t want to be found and thus they simply outfoxed them. It happens in intellgence. So X and Jenny simply get more toys, some thermal scanners, and catch the frogs when they go to get suplies for terri. That works.
The problem is he then starts acting stupid. He lets. Anne. Go.
Tumblr media
And his reasoning is flawed: “She’s jus ta kid her parents helped her”. He’s directly chased Anne. Nearly beaten her yes, but he knows she’s slippery. And more to the point if that’s the case HE LET HER PARENTS GO. And he sets up a trap at his fbi base expecting her to come to him so why didn’t he just you know CAPTURE HER THEN AND THERE. I expect this from a french moth man ranting in a dome, not from ru fricking paul. And the funniest part is while this is an incredibly weak exit for the character, ranting at a character he shoudln’t be underesitmating when up till now , even if he’d misunderstood the plantars, he’d never overtipped his hand or been a cocky ass. egotistcal yes, but only becaue he deserved it.... I still like the character. I’ve seen blatant and half assed character assasination before
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this ain’t it. It’s just a writing mistep. Trying to add a character flaw that wasn’t quite there. Even if he was assuming Anne was a normal kid like say elliot... he’s had to seen enough 80s movies to know that these kids aren’t incomptent. Matthew Brodrick, teen or not caused and fixed world war three. That alone should tell him maybe don’t underestimate the plucky kid who has been ducking you or blame it all on her parents.
The other bits likewise feel like they just weren’t paid off right: Frobo is an rc car now.. but got no real build up to being rebuilt and the it gals, while vital to the last two episodes, played no part in him coming back. Wallace Shawn and Molly Jo come back, but don’t reallly do much. It feels like the ep was TRYING to create a sense of finality to the earth stuff.. but hadn’t spent any time actually building it up to earn it.
And of course most glaringly we, so far, don’t get ANY payoff for th waybrights and wus. We learn nothing about them, they never showed up, the boonchuy’s never bothered contacting them. Easily the most potetial out of the earth stuff utterly wasted and i’ll likely be pissed about that for some time. We could’ve gottne into what they did to look for their daughters, where they are now, why sasha’s parents are divorced, just what their relationships with annes parents were. Instead we got...
Tumblr media
So was there anything I actually liked about the episode? Yes. Yes there was. Anne’s parents are a delight as always, and the look mr. b gave his wife while driving... so fucking cute. The fight in the spendco was also fun as hell, as was the accidental marcy refrence. And there were plenty of other good runners from Terry just going with the massive amount of snacks she needed being mistaken for portal ingrdeints, hop pops justified avacado obession, and Molly Jo.. not being a tall suprised frog man is a frog. It wasn’t the worst i’ve seen.. it was just disapointing especially since the season has been batting a thousand up to this point. The pacing was pitch perfect and everything was going fine so to sloppily rush this stuff this close to the finish line worries me a bit especailly since the last time I saw an arc try to sloppily wrap up a bunch of stuff towards the finish it.. it was star vs

So you can forgive me for being a bit gunshy after that fiasco. I still have hope the rest will be good as one mistep in a story does not ruin it.. many do an dthe final shot of the episode does bring hope that it was just that... our heroes returning to amphibia.. and finding it being scoured and stripmined by the forces of the empire. The sheer pain on their faces is beautifully animated as our heroes realize their home.. but their as outnumbered and lost as they were coming here. It’s powerful stuff not only showing how far andrias’ destruction has spread but now letting our heroes soak it in. It gives me as much hope for the final act as it gives them disapair for it.
Overall: Not a great episode, by any stretch, but it had i’ts moments, including one I didn’t get to which deserves meinoing which is anne pulling a

It’s not a TERRRIBLE episode but it is deeply disapointing and hopefully i’ts just a bumpin the road and not a sign of things to come.

Follies at the Coven Day Parade:
In contrast while Amphibia had a bit of a rough rentry, Owl House made a hell of an entrance as it set a deadline for the finale, set up yet another intriguging and terrifying coven head, gave Luz, Amity and Eda all some great moments and FINALLY gave me some solid willow content, and we haven’t even gotten to her headlining episode coming up.
For starters as i’m pretty sure i’m said before but in case I haven’t I just love this title: it’s goofy, it’s hilarious, and it fits the show well, while also nicely hiding just how much of a gutpunch this episode is. Well barely it came after the mid season finale and even before seeing said finale, it was obvoius just by placing it’d have some underlying issues to adress.
The show does so marvelously. For starters it dances a little sidestep over telling king and eda as she already did offscreen. I do wish we’d actually seen their reactoins and them dealing with it, but I get sometimes you have to compress for time. I’m more forgiving here than with escape to amphibia because it’s compressing one plot point realistically, of course King and Eda would both talk her out of a “you have to choose one or the other” mindset and back her up and of course eda would figure her out if she even tried, versus trying to cram several episodes worth of payoff into one episode and not really landing any of it. Here it’s just the shortcuts you sometimes need to take in storytelling to tell it in the time you have.
So what I worried might be episodes of Luz trying to hide her angst becomes her dealing with it out front... mostly as she hasn’t told Gus, Willow or Amity yet. Though we do get some prime bits of the Co as Gus and Willow speculate on Bellos face (lovingly spoofing us the fans), and Amity calls Luz a sweet potato, because Gus, being Gus, canm’t tell a spanish to english cookbook from a spanlish to english dictonary. But hey still a cute nickname so it sticks and we see the two be cute together. It’s adorable.
Things soon get less adorable though as Amity finds Luz’s phone, wonders what the video she’s working on (”A it’s not so bad here once you ignore the suplpher” tour that included a hooty skeleton so it’s not working so well), and we have Amity’s b-plot as she ends up with Luz’s phone: invade her girlfriends privacy to try and help her or respect it and leave it entirely. So while Luz is dealing with stuff we’ll get to in a moment, amity visits her only other friend. Willow. Well I mean I guess Gus too but their more friends by proximity. Amity is friends with all his friends, Gus is friends with all hers, they kinda HAVE to hang out together but it’s not the sorta person you go to when you need deep romantic advice.
It’s also intresting not just because we see willow with her hair up, my baby child, but because it’s the first time they really HAVE hung out since reconclinig and it’s still awkward as hell. But it’s nice to see this fracturced friendship get focus: it was a major part of both characters arc last season and i’ts nice to see it has repaired somewhat: all willow asks for her help is to braid her hair like they used to, which is sweet. It’s a small moment but a powerful one and judging by the outcome, Amity returning just in time to help luz in the climax and having not watched it, Willow gave good advice. And judging by Willows new hair amity gives good braids. EVERYONE WINS. But it leaves a question of if these two are fully good and if they can ever get back what Amity’s parents took from them. It’s this level of writing why I love the show: that the characters have become so developed that just watching one braid the other’s hair is rife with past character stuff, tension and joy. Though I also have to admit after spending two nights out of every week the last few weeks binging miraculous ladybug, i’m up to season 4 full review in april ya’ll, it’s also just refreshing to have plots that don’t rely on the characters being braindead about obvious clues, breaking into their love intrest house multiple times, suddenly undoing their character development or making out with a manequin but OOPSY IT’S YOUR LOVE INTREST AND HE STILL DOSEN’T GET YOU HAVE A CRUSH ON HIM. And yes that last thing actually happened. You can see now why competient writing has me so happy after that.
As for Luz she and Eda get an episode together that advances both Luz’s issues with her mom and the overarching “Day of Unity’ plot driving the season.. starting with what fans have been waiting for since Eda’s Requieum, me included: King and Luz finding out about Raine. Well King already found out because he read Eda’s diary which leads to the expected reaction
youtube
.... fine it dosen’t lead to that but it shoudl’ve. But it does lead to King spilling the tea, finding out he didn’t read the horrifying endinG, rahine’s capture and disappearnce over the past month after the fight with the coven heads, and Luz having a happy shippy coma I get into every time we get more lumity content.
So Luz naturally agrees to help Eda, who was having her poltergeist pi, god that’d be a godo spinoff, just get david haselhoff to voice him and nights will never be the same, track him (”Eda’s stalking her ex” as king put it). Turns out Rahine is back in the public eye with this week’s celebration of coven day aka EVERYONE LOOK AT HOW GREAT I, EMPREROR BELOS AM AND DON’T QUESTION MY OMNIOUS PLOT DAY. And having overheard Kikimora being given an ultimatium, either visit her family and leave her job or keep her job and her life but be cut out of the family by not visiting palm stings, decides to include her and get her to palm stings. Maybe not the best idea, she might find that ole timeloop cave. She has enough problems without going insane groundhog day style.
I didn’t expect this but I did thoughtly enjoy it: it took someone whose tried to murder a teenager multiple times out of envy and made her heartbreakingly sympathetic. Does it make the attempted teenager murders okay?
Tumblr media
But it gives them context: She’s been giving EVERYTHING to a job where she gets no respect, her coworkers literally walk over her, and her family dosen’t appricate how hard she’s worked for it. No wonder she resents hunter: to her he’s some brat whose gotten everything she ever wanted just by being born.  Belos has never once planned to kill him... granted that’s because he plans to human sacrifice him instead, but still, being in constant danger of loosing EVERYTHING for one mistake while your boss reguarly forgives some punk kid you hate.... it’s a lot. Again cool motive still murder, but just because a character’s sympathetic dosen’t mean you have to like them or their actoins. It just means you understand them better.
It also leads to Luz coming up with a crazy plan to make her, eda and kiki very happy: She’s going to straight up kidnap raine and kiki from the parade. The plan isn’t.. AS bad as it sounds: she makes them disappear in a way that isn’t suspscious so Eda gets her person back and Kiki can go on vacation.
Unfortunately for her, Bellos is already on top of it and already saw this sort of plan coming from a mile away. Given there was a mysterious I love belos float in the parade, to be piloted by king’s ablitity to annoy and hooty’s god complex, it wasn’t that hard to figure out but he was still not only 9 moves ahead with raine, so he never had to worry there, but is able to easily pivot to prevent their turning of kiki with the simple addition of one operative to the float: Terra Snapdragon, head of the plant coven and easily the most terrifying of the four coven heads so far. And given what Darius and Abberwolf were capable of think about that. But in the span of one episode she manages to show herself not only to be stronger but far more terrifying and far less quirky. Terra is expertly played by Debra Wilson who i don’t recognize from anything in paticular but has played amanda waller a few times so yeah, that tracks.
Terra reveals just how Bellos planned on using Rahne against his will: brainwashing. Yeah if gaslighting his own son-figure wasn’t enough, Bellos isn’t above outright rewriting rahne’s memoreis so they and eda never reconnected and more dammingly Rahne was never unloyal to the bard’s coven. It’s barely holding granted, but it’s enough that when the plan goes off, we get one of the most heartbreaking fights i’ve seen in animation: Rahne Vs Eda. Eda refusing to back down, clearly getting what’s going on and Rahne equally refusing to realize they’ve been used and had their life rewrittten, given bitterness towards Eda that was never there before. While it’s awesome to see the two fight evenly, with Eda not even using harpy mode and only using her glyps defenstively, i’ts heartbreaking: eda KNOWS he’s being braniwashed but is forced to flee and Rahne tells her to go and never return. Resucing them isn’t an option and both are broken up about it.
Somehow even more heartbreaking is what happens with Kiki. All Terra has to do is dangle a promotion over her head and despite everything luz has done to try and help her and Amity pitching in just to help luz.... she turns on both and tried to kill them. Luz did the right thing, if for selfish reasons , if to prove something to herself, she still tried to help a struggling person make the right choice.. and learned the same hard lesson amity did with hunter: you can only help someone whose ready to be helped. Kiki is too entrenched in her need to be seen and her job to give up on it, too beliving in belos to turn her back on him despite Belos not giving a damn if she lives or dies and gladly letting Terra undermine her. Terra stops the fight which thankfully saves luz.. but also leaves us with two chillling revelations: Luz is ONLY alive because Belos needs her (and amity because dead children is bad pr), and that the promotion.. is getting to live. Kikii would’ve died had she tried to leave, meaning in the end, this was all for nothing.
Our heroes end the defeated, though at least getting some moral victories. Amity is confident enough in her relationship to do the hard work.. and tell luz she knows she lied, though still does the right thing and didn’t look at the video. In turn Luz realizes she can’t hide this and is honest with her girlfriend even if the truth, that they may have to seperate , hurts a HELL of a lot.
So we get our final scene which is utterly painful and awesome: our heroes lost, the villians stand on a float proud with only kiki doubtful, and the worst part? Belos gets yet ANOTHER victory , the one he’d been building to all day , with the public: he takes off his mask. What Eda thought was simply a move to distract from their shenanigans.. is instead an earnest attempt to show the people how much he cares. As evil as he is Belos was fearfeul his people would see his cursed face (though in another nice possible fandom nod , just like us Gus and willow are barely phased), but feels warmed enough by their support to show it.. and gets nothing but thunderous applause showing that despite pockets of people against the coven.. the public at large love and support their dictator and whatever he has planned for the “day of unity”. So our heroes are not only facing the strongest witch on the isle, not only are they fighting 12 of the most powerful and deadly witches in existance with only four children, a harpy and a king, and MAYBE another harpy and a powerful other witch, but they have to go against the public. It’s a powerful note of despair to begin this block on: our heroes are outgunned, outmanned, outnumbered, out planned... and an all out stand may not be enough... but Luz is ready to face it one day at a time.. even if she clearly dosen’t know how.. and she only has one month to figure it out.
Final Thoughts:
if it wasn’t obvious this episode was awesome. Tightly paced, greatly characterized and with an impactful ending that leaves us guessing as we approach the finale and the day of unity. Truly tremndous stuff that badly needs to continue from here.
Next Week: The episode Jess has been waiting for as Luz and Lilith go hunting for some juicy PHILLIP LORE. Meanwhile in amphibia anne is bad at leading and we get some shipping. EVERYONE WINS.

Book of Boba, Ep. 7 Review
Below is my review of The Book of Boba Fett, Episode 7: In the Name of Honor. IT CONTAINS SPOILERS.
When they first announced that Robert Rodriguez was directing The Book of Boba Fett, I was pretty happy about it. I’m not in his key audience demographic (presumably children and horror fans) but I’ve seen a few of his movies and I kind of loved Sin City, something that I should definitely be canceled for.
Also I'm the weensiest bit biased because the episode he directed of The Mandalorian is Extremely Special to me. Robert Rodriguez delivered on something I've wanted to see since 1998: a full-on fight scene where Boba demonstrates exactly why he's such a force to be reckoned with.
I would put watching that episode in my top 5 fandom experiences, maybe even top 3.
The finale of The Book of Boba Fett was pretty much everything I would expect a Star Wars television series directed by Robert Rodriguez to be. Predictable and trope-laden, but also full of action and fun. Seven episodes of what we saw in the final chapter would have been a perfectly acceptable addition to the Star Wars universe.
It’s a shame we didn’t get that.
I have a theory, which I’ll save for another day, but I think what can be said at the end of this long, strange seven weeks is that while the show put out some great content, it was lazily written, badly paced, poorly marketed under Disney’s usual Veil of Secrecy, and miscast. Sorry. Temuera Morrison gave a great performance as always but he looks even less like 40 without the scars.
So, let’s have a summary, shall we?
The show doesn’t open with Cobb Vanth.
Brilliant. Bold. Unexpected. Love it.
Nor does it open with Din Djarin. It opens with Boba and Fennec taking in the burned out remains of Garsa Fwip’s Cantina. While we don’t see Garsa’s body, she was standing pretty close to a bomb last time we saw her and unlike some characters she's not a shallow cowboy stereotype played by a man beloved for playing shallow cowboy stereotypes, so she’s probably like, dead dead.
Din joins them and they decide to make their stand here in a burned-out cantina because this episode is directed by Robert Rodriguez. There’s a nice bit of dialogue that really could have been in a previous episode defining Boba’s current motives. It’s not about the money or power, he feels a responsibility to the people of Mos Espa.
Cad Bane checks in with the Pyke leader and the Mayor, who are hiding in Mos Eisley. While we’re there we drop in on Peli, who is having a minor panic attack over the appearance of an X-Wing. X-Wings are apparently police cars now, which is a minus 4 on the coolness scale.
Now I have no problem believing that R2-D2 can fly an X-Wing solo. I have very much skepticism that Grogu made it the whole trip without pushing enough buttons to crash them into an asteroid. There must be some hefty child-locks in that cockpit.
Cad Bane goes to make one last pitch to Boba, which includes rubbing the murder of his Tusken clan in his face. Dick move, classic Cad Bane. I guess. I don’t actually know anything about this character other than there was some creepy arc in The Clone Wars with him and Ahsoka where he took a piece of her headdress and smelled it or something.
Meanwhile in the streets of Mos Espa, all of the guys from the dinner scene have turned on Boba (oh no, if only someone could have predicted that) and are shooting at his allies. The Gamorreans are sacrificed for tension. Booooo.
Boba learns this and is resigned, but Din is ride-or-die, so there’s that. Genuinely a great scene between the two of them. And then the mayor’s majordomo offers to surrender on Boba’s behalf and Boba’s all “oh yeah I’ll surrender…SIKE.” And also it was a distraction so he and Din could sneak out the back door and jetpack into the middle of the fight and I have nothing to say about anything of this because it’s just one of those “shut up and watch the pretty armored boys twirl” moments.
But of course they’re vastly outnumbered and all hope is lost. Then the citizens of Freetown show up, in your FACE, Cad Bane.
Because we've had our rallying moment it’s time for things to get really real, so a bunch of scary-ass shielded droids show up, and not even the darksaber can touch them. Boba has a thought and jets off to fetch his rancor, which I swear had a growth spurt between this episode and its introduction. Was there a decade-long cold war on Tatooine between Boba and the Pykes that we missed while we were off with Din and CGI!Luke?
Boba rides the rancor into the fight and describing fight scenes is really boring so Peli shows up with Grogu and Cad Bane returns for his final showdown with Boba. “I’m still faster than you,” Cad says and Boba replies “That may be, but I have armor” and Cad says “Let’s find out,” which I have to mention because it's just such terrible dialogue. You can see he has armor, dude. He’s standing right in front of you. Classic Cad Bane...I guess?
Anyway, if you were paying attention when Boba fell off of the rancor and you noticed what weapon he brought back from the palace, you know exactly how this fight ends well before it does.
The rancor, meanwhile, is loose and experiencing a lot of Separation Anxiety. They manage to work in a King Kong reference before Grogu puts him down for nappies. We return to the Pyke hideout. Remember that Fennec left in the beginning of the episode to go find the leaders? Because I sure forgot!
Great job, guys. You sure took care of those nefarious villains who were barely in a handful of episodes.
The episode ends with Boba and Fennec walking the streets of Mos Espa and everyone is happy to see them and Boba finally admits that maybe he’s not cut out for this. Fennec tells him he’s committed and he can’t quit this the way he quit swimming lessons and piano.
So I guess he’s there to stay.
Things I Loved:
Boba’s fake out with the mayor’s assistant is exactly like the scene where Din disarms for the TSA droid. It’s a well-used trope but somehow remains funny when properly executed. I also appreciated the flowery and alliterative language, which seems very in step with Tem’s version of Boba.
The rancor going full “you’re not my dad!” and nomming on Din. XD
Speaking of Din, I think we can all agree that Din chasing after the retreating Pykes while clutching a baby to his chest is peak Mandalorian Parent energy.
Drash had a nice moment with the Freetown girl and I ship it.
I really did appreciate that the Freetown people came in the end not because Cobb Vanth told them to go be canon fodder, but because they made a decision to fight for something better. It’s going to be all love until Boba comes out in support of giving the Tuskens their land back.
I said at the beginning of this series that I got a real Daenerys Targaryen vibe from Boba’s arc and while that vibe was certainly intense in this episode it was in a good way.
Peli is right. Grogu is a terrible name.
Things I Didn’t Love:
Fennec being absent for most of the big fight was…strange. It felt like she was pushed out to make room for Din and I definitely didn’t love that.
I really wish we had seen more build up to this fight. The characters have been talking about war but we haven’t seen much actual conflict and so this didn’t actually feel like a war so much as it felt like a single battle fought by a handful of people in one city.
You know where that conversation between Din and Boba would have fit in really well? The previous episode, where Boba had like seven seconds of screen time and no dialogue. Yes, I’m still bitter about that.
You know what also would have been cool? If Fennec had an actual arc or space to explore her career change from Master Assassin to Hand of the Daimyo. Maybe something to do with her skepticism of Boba hiring every troublemaker in town and maybe it could have built up over a few episodes and then that moment where she tells the Mod Squad they did well would have had emotional resonance.
You know what ALSO would have been…no, screw this. I’m saving it for another post.
Monster of the Week: The rancor, who got tired and overstimulated and started lashing out. Whomst among us.
Final Thoughts: I know you’re all wondering, “did you see the post-credits scene, Grace?” and I literally have no idea what you’re talking about. I watched an episode. I saw some pretty concept art. I don’t know anything about a post-credits scene. It’s like you’re obsessed with the idea of a post-credits scene. It’s like you’re in love with it. Did I see a post-credits scene? I don’t understand the question. Get a warrant.

as usual, I’m delivering quality content to the fandom in the form of bad memes ft. my OC
Fair warning, if you touch Brahms’ face - regardless whether you’re holding a sandwich or not - he will grab both of your hands and keep them there because our boy is t o u c h s t a r v e d.
Some Brahms headcanon
He’s a classical boy no questions asked - probably because he never really listened to anything else and his parents beat Mozart co into his head from very little on. I don’t think he’d be too willing to try to listen to new stuff, especially more modern things
I do think that he’d be more willing to listen to soundtracks though? I can see him taking a liking on Opera Maria and Draco (since Mozart’s Zauberflöte was playing for him too). Or piano pieces such as Valse D’amelie, some Ghibli soundtracks too. I don’t think he would like anything too omnious tho (like... the Bloodborne OST for example. good shit tho)
Ghibli movies!!!! iirc, the house didn’t have wifi and had bad phone reception. There is a landline phone, to which Brahms had access to control the line and cut it off any time. So it is safe to assume there Heelshires did not have a TV or computer in the house. But anyway, I do think that if introduced to movie entertainment, Brahms would love Ghibli movies.
He’s a crafty boy, he made himself a No Face mask the next day. I think that Princess Mononoke terrified him a little, with the boar god turning into a demon and stuff. Def a Spirited Away fan though. Maybe Arietty too, since in the movie the borrower family has to be very careful when moving around to not be discovered and I think He Relates (tm)
ok probably a fan of animations in general. I do think that he’d be picky about which one though - while he does strike me as a smart boy, he did live a very isolated life, so I think if he doesn’t get too many of the references, he probably will stop watching it. Like, I don’t think he’d be a fan of Star Wars the Clone Wars series for example. But Over the Garden Wall or Adventure time? probably more up his alley.
Also disney movies.
I think a lot about chucking the Harry Potter series or the Narnia Chronicles or the Hobbit at his head and tell him to read those too.
Touch starved but also Does Not Know How To Do Human Contact. idk about you but the way he dragged Greta away? Homeboy could have hurt her he could have just grabbed her around her waist and dragged her away.
Watch out, once you show him how to return a hug, you will be walking around the mansion with a 193cm backpack glued to your back.
He Is A 33 Years Old Virgin And This Is The Hill I Will Die On
Probably needs to be taught how to kiss properly too
moving on before things get too NSFW lmao another time maybe ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I don’t think he’d be very talkative. The most you’d hear him talk is when he is keeping up with the haunted house shenanigans using his child’s voice to make demands and stuff.
turns back to his OG voice when he is desperate and mad (as we know). It shouldn’t happen too often though as long as you stick to the rules and don’t leave him lmao.
In a scenario where he comes out of the wall more often to be close to reader/OC, he’d still be using his child voice to communicate, but it would mostly be three-word requests/questions. He’d be using head gestures a lot (nodding, shaking his head, tilting it sideways etc.). And probably gets grabby and physical too if he is displeased.
That being said, Brahms’s love language is physical touches for obvious reasons.
If you’d ask him to use his normal voice, he wouldn’t be used to it. Probably be very cracked and a bit shaky. He always talked to his parents in his child’s voice too - although I highly doubt that they really talked much over the years. Probably communicated a lot with knocking on the walls and with the parents shouting stuff through the room knowing he will hear it.
Ask him to spend his reading sessions with you face to face and have him read the chapters out loud to you in his normal voice to practice getting used to it. He can cuddle you while he’s reading as a compromise that should pacify him
whops that turned out a lot longer than I intended it to be  pls talk to me about Brahms I love him so much

Would love to hear about your beefs with Lucas because I have beefs with Lucas
(Sorry it took me three thousand years to answer this, anon.)
They mainly fall under a few headings, with the third being the most serious and the thing that I am genuinely irl furious about at least biannually (and feeling unable to adequately sum up The Problem with it after yelling about it so often is a huge part of why this post has been in my drafts for such a long time):
1. His self-mythologising and the subsequent uncritical repetition of his bullshit in the fandom. Obvious lies like that he had some master plan for 10 films when it’s clear he did not have anything like a plot outline at any point. We all know the thing was written at the seat of various people’s pants, it’s blatantly self-evident that’s the case. There’s also plenty of public record about how the OT was written. Even dumber, more obvious lies, like that Anakin was ‘always the protagonist’ and the entire 6 films were his story from the beginning. This is preposterous and every time someone brings it up (usually with palpable smugness) as fanboys ‘not understanding star wars’ because they don't get that ‘the OT is not Luke's story’... Yeah, I just... I cannot.
Vader wasn’t Anakin Skywalker until ESB, it’s a retcon. It’s a brilliant retcon and it works perfectly, it elevated SW into something timeless and special it otherwise would not have been, but you can tell it wasn’t the original plan and there’s proof it wasn’t the original plan. Let’s not pretend. And Luke is the protagonist. No amount of waffling about such esoteric flights of theory as ‘ring structure’ is going to get away from the rigidly orthodox narrative and the indisputable fact that it is Luke’s hero’s journey. Vader’s redemption isn’t about his character development (he has almost none) and has no basis in any kind of convincing psychological reality for his character, but it doesn’t need to be because it’s part of Luke’s arc, because Vader is entirely a foil in Luke’s story. It’s a coming-of-age myth about confronting and growing beyond the father.
All attempts to de-centre Luke in RotJ just break the OT’s narrative logic. It’s a character-driven story and the character driving is Luke. Trying to read it as Anakin’s victory, the moral culmination of his choices rather than Luke’s and putting all the agency into Anakin’s hands just destroys the trilogy’s coherence and ignores most of its content in favour of appropriating a handful of scenes into an arc existing only in the prequels. The dilemma of RotJ is how Luke will define ethical adulthood after learning and growing through two previous films worth of challenge, education, failure, and triumph; it’s his choice to love his father and throw down his sword which answers the question the entire story has been asking. Vader’s redemption and the restoration of the galaxy are the consequences of that choice which tell us what kind of world we’re in, but the major dramatic conflict was resolved by Luke’s decision not the response to it.
And, just all over, the idea of Lucas as an infallible auteur is inaccurate and annoying to me. Obviously he’s a tremendous creative force and we wouldn’t have sw without him, but he didn’t create it alone or out of whole cloth. The OT was a very collaborative effort and that’s why it’s what it is and the prequels are what they are. Speaking of which.
2. The hubris of the prequels in general and all the damage their many terrible, protected-from-editors choices do to the symbolic fabric of the sw universe. Midicholrians, Yoda fighting with a lightsabre, Obi-wan as Anakin's surrogate father instead of his peer, incoherent and unmotivated character arcs, the laundry list of serious and meaningful continuity errors, the bad storytelling, the bad direction, the bad characterisation, the shallowness of the parallels which undermine the OT’s imagery, the very clumsy and contradictory way the A/P romance was handled, the weird attitude to romance in general, it goeth on. I don’t want to re-litigate the entire PT here and I’m not going to, but they are both bad as films and bad as prequels. The main idea of them, to add Anakin’s pov and create an actual arc for him as well as to flesh out the themes of compassion and redemption, was totally appropriate. The concept works as a narrative unit, there are lots of powerful thematic elements they introduce, they have a lot of cool building blocks, it’s only in execution and detail that they do a bunch of irreparable harm.
But the constant refrain that only ageing fanboys don’t like them and they only don’t like them because of their themes or because they humanise Anakin... can we not. The shoddy film making in the prequels is an objective fact. If you want to overlook the bad parts for the good or prioritise ideas over technique, that’s fine, but don’t sit here and tell me they’re masterworks of cinema there can be no valid reason to criticise. I was the exact right age for them when I saw them, I am fully on board with the fairy tale nature of sw, I am fully on board with humanising Anakin- the prequels just have a lot of very big problems with a) their scripts and b) their direction, especially of dialogue scenes. If Lucas had acknowledged his limitations like he did back in the day instead of believing his own press, he could have again had the help he obviously needed instead of embarrassing himself.
3. Killing and suppressing the original original trilogy. I consider the fact that the actual original films are not currently available in any form, have never been available in an archival format, and have not been presented in acceptable quality since the VHS release a very troubling case study in the problems of corporate-owned art. LF seizing prints of the films whenever they are shown, destroying the in-camera negatives to make the special editions with no plans to restore them, and doing all in the company’s considerable power to suppress the original versions is something I consider an act of cultural vandalism. The OT defined a whole generation of Hollywood. It had a global impact on popular entertainment. ANH is considered so historically significant it was one of the first films added to the US Library of Congress (Lucas refused to provide even them with a print of the theatrical release, so they made their own viewable scan from the 70s copyright submission).
The fact that the films which made that impact cannot be legally accessed by the public is offensive to me. The fact that Lucas has seen fit to dub over or composite out entire performances (deleting certain actors from the films), to dramatically alter the composition of shots chosen by the original directors, to radically change the entire stylistic tone by completely reinventing the films’ colour timing in attempt to make them match the plasticy palate of the prequels, to shoot new scenes for movies he DID NOT DIRECT, add entire sequences or re-edit existing sequences to the point of being unrecognisable etc. etc. is NOT OKAY WITH ME when he insists that his versions be the ONLY ones available.
I’m okay with the Special Editions existing, though I think they’re mostly... not good... but I’m not okay with them replacing the original films. And all people can say is ‘well, they’re his movies’.
Lucas may have clear legal ownership in the capitalistic sense, but in no way does he have clear artistic ownership. Forget the fans, I’m not one of those people who argue the fans are owed something: A film is always a collaborative exercise and almost never can it be said that the end product is the ultimate responsibility and possession of one person. Even the auteur directors aren't the sole creative vision, even a triple threat like Orson Welles still had cinematographers and production designers, etc. Hundreds of artists work on films. Neither a writer nor a director (nor one person who is both) is The Artist behind a film the way a novelist is The Artist behind a novel. And Lucas did NOT write the screenplays for or direct ESB or RotJ. So in what sense does he have a moral right to alter those films from what the people primarily involved in making them deemed the final product? In what sense would he have the right to make a years-later revision the ONLY version even if he WERE the director?
Then you get into the issue of the immeasurable cultural impact those films had in their original form and the imperative to preserve something that is defining to the history of film and the state of the zeitgeist. I don't think there is any ‘fan entitlement’ involved in saying the originals belonged to the world after being part of its consciousness for decades and it is doing violence to the artistic record to try to erase the films which actually occupied that space. It's exactly like trying to replace every copy of It's a Wonderful Life with a colourised version (well, it's worse but still), and that was something Lucas himself railed against. It’s like if Michaelangelo were miraculously resuscitated and he decided to repaint the Sistine Ceiling to add a gunfight and change his style to something contemporary.
I get genuinely very upset at the cold reality that generations of people are watching sw for the first time and it’s the fucking SE-except-worse they’re seeing. And as fewer people keep physical media and the US corporate oligarchy continues to perform censorship and rewrite history on its streaming services unchecked by any kind of public welfare concerns, you’ll see more and more ‘real Mandela effect’ type shit where the cultural record has suddenly ‘always’ been in line with whatever they want it to be just now. And US media continues to infect us all with its insidious ubiquity. I think misrepresenting and censoring the past is an objectively bad thing and we can’t learn from things we pretend never happened, but apparently not many people are worried about handing the keys to our collective experience to Disney and Amazon.
4. The ‘Jedi don’t marry’ thing and how he wanted this to continue with Luke post-RotJ, so it’s obviously not meant to be part of what was wrong with the order in the prequels. I find this... incoherent on a storytelling level. The moral of the anidala story then indeed becomes just plain ‘romantic love is bad and will make you crazy’, rather than the charitable reading of the prequels which I ascribe to, which is that the problem isn’t Anakin’s love for Padmé, it’s that he ceased to love her and began to covet her. And I can’t help but feel this attitude is maybe an expression of GL’s issues with women following his divorce. I don’t remember if there’s evidence to contradict that take, since it’s been some time since I read about this but yeah. ANH absolutely does sow seeds for possible Luke/Leia development and GL was still married while working on that film. Subsequently he was dead set against Luke ever having a relationship and decided Jedi could not marry. Coincidence?
There’s a lot of blinking red ‘issues with women’ warning signs all over Lucas’s work, but the prequels are really... egregious.

Thank you for the good review of “Light of the Jedi” I wanted to get it, but was worried it’d be a terrible attempt to “revitalize the Star Wars Fandom.” That said are you worried that Disney might try to buy the rights from the author to try and make pre-prequel movies?
I’m going to express some probably very controversial opinions so dear god please none of you gripe at me.
But I’m assuming and I’m hoping that Disney does expand with pre-prequels era films. I don’t really understand why so many fans are opposed to it when the alternative is just to keep expanding on the Skywalker verse until there’s no soul left. And I love the Skywalker saga and the expansions,don’t get me wrong. I mean the prequels are my favorite and I love the Clone Wars and am immensely excited for the Kenobi series and the other new shows coming out. But they can’t keep making films and shows about the same era forever,and I think the next and obvious step is to start making movies on the Old Republic and High Republic. Too,I mean the way Disney is rolling out the High Republic to me very much conveys that the books are a stepping stone for the fandom to future movies.
I very much want to see Old and High Republic movies! More then want I’m really hoping that’s what’s to come. While I love the clones and the rebels and the smugglers and Mandalorians,my true love of Star Wars will always be rooted in the Jedi versus the Sith. I adore the Old Republic era and absolutely fell in love with the High Republic,and the grandiose scale and potential on screen is super exciting to me. I would love to see a Revan movie get made and so on.
And here’s where my take gets spicy,and please no one think this is a personal attack,because it isn’t. But I find the constant negativity of the fandom when it comes to anything new to be fucking exhausting. I am an optimist,I will always approach the potential of new content with excitement and from a positive perspective. I don’t understand going into something with this,they’re going to fuck it up,perspective because then you’re setting yourself up to be unhappy and disappointed. I like Star Wars,I can usually find something to love in any facet of it,and I absolutely don’t get why everyone else is so determined to be so cynical and to hate new content before it even comes out? It makes me sad. I was one of the only people on here excited when they released the High Republic news,when I felt like everyone wanted to jump on the bandwagon of they’re going to ruin it. Like—why always assume everything is going to be terrible and that you’re going to hate it? I do get that we’ve all been disappointed or burned by our fandoms,like my guys I was a supernatural fan,I 1,0000% get it.
But I don’t agree with the mindset everyone in this fandom seems to take up,which is to hate content before it even releases and to expect the worst and that it will ruin everything? And people will cite how tErRiBlE the sequels were as this justification for not trusting anything but there were aspects of the sequels I loved,there will always be something for me to love. I love to love things,it’s kind of who I am as a person,and everyone else’s negativity will always be a big bummer to me. Which is why I tend to stay in my corner and ignore 99% of fandom,I don’t care that you hate everything about Star Wars Brad,I love my space samurai with laser swords okay. So my answer to what do you think about ——— new content,will always be one of excitement,because I welcome new content with open arms and joy until I’m proven otherwise when I read or watch it myself,not based on everyone else’s negative opinions. You can guarantee that when the mouse sprinkles new content and everyone is furious because Disney is going to ruin everything,I am bouncing somewhere going hOlY sHiT hOlY sHiT mOrE sTaR wArS!!!!

Chapter 1: Prologue
Jakku. A sand covered graveyard of destroyed star ships from the battle that ensued roughly 20 years ago. Varax looked out along the desert atop his speeder, the sun beating down on him like a wave. As he stared out amongst the lifeless desert, he noticed a starship fly overhead. The ship was roughly the size of a star freighter, and looked very similar to the ships used by the First Order. “Damn fascists” Varax mumbled under his breath as he hopped onto the speeder and headed towards Niima Outpost.
He sped through the desert, eventually reaching the settlement where he headed to Unkar Plutt’s to give him a heads up about the ship he’d seen earlier. But, oddly enough, Plutt’s top scavenger was there negotiating a deal with the ugly bastard. “For the last time girl one quarter portion, or nothing at all” Unkar said with a grunt. As Varax walked up to Plutt however, a woman stopped the scavenger and offered a better deal. Much to Unkar’s dismay. As the two walked off, Unkar scoffed and returned to his work “Hey boss” Varax called out “Ah Varax, finally something good can come out of this damn hellhole” Plutt said as he walked out of his shop for a smoke break “You usually aren’t back this early, what’s the occasion?” He asked, taking a puff from his pipe. “Caught a freighter outside the outpost. Looked old and beat up, and Imperial too” Varax said as he sat down next to the dealer. “Imperial? Obviously the desert’s fried your brain kid. The only Imperial ships here are derelict wrecks of an age gone by” He says with a laugh and a cough.
“Fair. What’s the deal with the girl anyhow?” Varax asked as he took a drink from his canteen. “Who, Rey?” Plutt asks as he exhales a thick cloud of smoke. “Yeah, she’s usually pretty loyal to ya since she’s started living on the old walker in the desert” Varax explains wiping some sweat from his brow. “Beats me” Plutt says as he takes another puff out of the pipe “The Dantoonian Girl though, she’s trouble” Plutt says with an exhale “Rumor has it she works with Lord Niima and the other Hutts in the cartel as a bounty hunter called ‘Darth Amorosa’” he says with a laugh. “She’s got guts pretending to be a Sith” Varax says “I’m gonna head out, thanks for the chat Plutt” Varax says as he cowls up his hood and walks off
First the ship, now a possible Sith here… I’ve got a bad feeling about this…
Chapter 2: An Unlikely Ally
Varax sped through the desert until he’d seen it: A Sith Interceptor. He’d only seen them in holodocs after leaving Luke’s order, it looked familiar but he shrugged it off as he docked his speeder in front of the ship as he saw Rey walk out with a bag of rations. “Uh Hi?” She says to Varax as he inspects the ship. He was right, it was old. REALLY OLD. Older than most ships he’d seen since… No, forget the past, don’t let it consume you he thought to himself before he walked up to Rey “Sorry if it looks like I’m tailing you. Wanted to make sure this old tub isn’t First Order” Varax says as he hits a panel before it hits the desert floor…. Directly onto his foot “Ah Kriff! Fucking ship!” He cursed under his breath. “Smooth Scav-boy, what’s next you’re gonna plant your head in the sand like a senator?” A voice says from the ship. Varax looks up and realizes it was the girl from the market. She looked like she was from Dantooine, based on the tattoo on her lips. “Yeah yeah” Varax says as he winces in pain “I just swang by to check on the ship, not everyday you see a Sith Interceptor…”. The girl chuckles as a 2V Droid exits the ship “Lady Amorosa if you don’t mind me asking, who is this” he says pointing at Varax. “My thoughts exactly 2V, who are you stranger?” she asks as she exposes a lightsaber hanging off her hip.
Varax sighs and removes his hood, his black hair blowing through the desert wind. “My name is Varax Koslov, former Jedi Master” he says as he pulls out his lightsaber and ignites its dual cyan blades as they crackled like lightning in his hands. Amorosa tensed up a little, as if a ghost had passed through her. But before she could say anything she and Varax felt a shift in the Force as the three of them looked up to see a First Order Dreadnaught appear out of hyperspace. Dropships and a Flagship headed towards a village to the east. “2V prime the ship!” Amorosa orders the droid as he races to the cockpit to start the vessel “Right away Darth Amorosa” he chimes as the ship begins to lift off. Rey accompanies them as they head to the village
Varax knew who was here, he knew who was on that flagship…
The Grandson to Darth Vader…
And Luke Skywalker’s former apprentice…
Kylo Ren.
Chapter 3: Hope Within Death
As the crew landed outside the village, Rey was sickened to her core. Bodies littered the village left and right, homes were in flames, and a Rebel X-wing was blown to pieces. “Who could’ve done this?” Rey asked the 2 Force sensitives as they looked for survivors amongst the dead and burned. “The First Order” Amorosa says as she turns over a corpse expecting something besides death. Varax nods in agreement, Rey is still confused, “First Order?” she asks not knowing of the tyrannical group. “Leftover parasites of the Empire, a bunch of fascist, racist, power hungry bastards who only wish to spread pain and suffering all over the galaxy” He says angrily. Rey lowers her head, “Is there anything we could’ve done?” She asks her strange friends. “No” they say, almost at the same time.
Suddenly a BB droid comes running at the trio, sounding of a battle cry of beeps and whirs as it charges at Amorosa. “Oi! Watch it you metal bastard” she reprimands the droid before it pulls out a shock stick and zaps her leg. “WHY YOU-” Amorosa says as she tries to kick the little droid before being cut off by Rey and Varax “Ali stop it! He’s obviously angry at someone else, don't hurt him!” Rey says as she kneels down to the droid. “I’m sorry about my friend, she can be a bit temperamental, my name is Rey. And this is Varax and Aliana” she explains to the BB droid. The droid gives out a series of beeps and whirs. “He says the village was attacked by the First Order, and that a warrior named Kylo Ren took his friend, a pilot named Poe Dameron, his name is BB-8” she translates as she looks back to the droid. “Listen, it’s too dangerous out in the desert at night, especially for a droid like you, how about you stay with us for the night and we’ll go after your friend in the morning?” she says, talking to the droid as if it's a little child. BB-8 looks down for a moment before giving an affirmative beep as he rolls to the Fury.
“Rey will take the guest room, Varax you get the couch” Aliana explains as the 4 of them enter the ship. Varax was thoroughly impressed by how well the ship was maintained, especially for its age. “How long have you had this thing?” Varax asks as he plops down on the couch as BB-8 rolls next to him “It’s a family heirloom, 2V and I have lived here for as long as I can remember” she says as she presses a button on the dining room table, revealing a huge family tree of humans, the earliest dating well over 1000 years ago. “Damn, this must be some heirloom, either that or that family tree is WAY off” Varax says as he kicks off his boots as lies down on the couch. The padding feeling like a 6 star hotel mattress on Canto Byte. “Ah that's the spot” he says as he closes his eyes and drifts into unconsciousness.
Chapter 4: Finn or Foe?
Varax tossed and turned as he dreamt. He was walking through a great hall on a forest planet. Endor’s Moon? Kashyyyk? It didn’t matter what he did see was the mask of Kylo Ren and the hum of his lightsaber before waking up in a jolt.
Rey and Aliana were eating stew of some kind as BB-8 was pacing around the ship. “Morning” he says as he gets up and grabs a bowl of stew from the pot. The scent of spices and meat made his mouth water “made it myself” Aliana says as she grabs a spoonful for herself. Varax gives her a look of doubt “A Sith cooking for a Jedi and a scavenger? I’m either still dreaming or dead” he says as he sits down and starts to eat as he looks over at Rey, whose cheeks are nearly bursting due to how full they are. “Ali’s the best cook ever!” Rey says as she swallows the mass of stew with a grunt. “Easy their Rey, no need to make yourself sick” Aliana says as she grabs the 2 empty bowls in front of Rey. Rey chuckles “Yeah you’re right” she says as Aliana sets the dishes in the sink and heads to the cockpit.
As the 3 enter the cockpit, a TIE fighter whips past them and collides with a sand dune and lands next to an old Star Destroyer. “What was that!?!?” Rey says as she grips the door frame as the ship shakes from the turbulence. “Looks like we’ve got us a First Order TIE Fighter” Varax says looking down at the wreckage. “Should we check it out?” Rey asks “It could be Poe” she adds. BB-8 gives out a series of supportive beeps before the ship gets swallowed by a vortex of desert sand.
“Well, if that Poe guy’s in there he’s dead… sorry little buddy” Varax says to BB-8 sympathetically. BB-8 lowers his head and beeps sadly. “Hang on whose that?” Rey asks, pointing at someone next to the wreckage. The crew look at the camera footage of the wreck and its lone survivor: A dark skinned stormtrooper carrying a brown leather jacket. BB-8 gives out a series of angry beeps as he takes control of the Fury and sets it on a collision course. “What the hell are you doing you idiot!?!” Varax yells at him. BB-8 responds with a series of beeps. “He says that the jacket belonged to Poe!” Rey exclaims trying not to fall on any controls as BB-8 recklessly flys overtop the Stormtrooper and lowers the landing gear, rolling out of the ship and charging at the survivor. Shocking him and running him over while giving out the droid equivalent of a raging war cry.
“BB-8 Stop it let ‘em go!!!” Varax yells as he grabs the droid before pulling a blaster pistol on the Trooper. “What's your name Buckethead?”

Read a dumb nerd clickbait article on my break that was about some made up controversy over Boba Fett’s ship getting renamed, and the first part of the article was “haha look at these dumb stupid chuds jumping at a made up SJW boogyman look at these pathetic man children” when it was talking about how Disney isn’t actually changing the name of the ship.
The second part of the article was “well Boba Fett’s ship name is never mentioned in any of the movies so why should it matter if they change it anyways? Who gives a shit nothing actually matters anything can just be whatever.”
Then third part of the article was “uhh actually though they really should change the name of the ship because Star Wars is for children and even if Boba Fett is clearly a villain the word ‘Slave’ is really mean!” And it was like some kind /pol/ strawman comic from 2016 brought to life, and I’m so glad I don’t usually engage in this kind of content holy shit.

A/N: Doesn’t have a completed end yet, but just giving you more content to try to get myself out of a writing funk.
Part 1 / Part 2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“OK, hold the fuck on.” Your best friend from work, Sarah, said as she waited patiently for you to safely enter your currently room temperature hot tub to cool off on your first hot day of spring. “You’re the one dating Clark Kent?! Tall, drop dead gorgeous, hasn’t looked at a single woman since he started at Blue Ridge to the point we were starting to think he was gay, Clark Kent?”
“People thought he was gay?” You asked with a huffed laugh as you sat down in your favorite spot.
“I mean, have you seen how he dresses?” She asked as she got in and sat across from you. “Those tight shirts?”
“So that makes him gay?!” You laughed as you wrapped your ponytail into a bun and secured it with the hair tie on your wrist.
“OK, not exclusively.” She laughed as she hit the display panel and turned on her jets. “It’s all talk, you know. That’s all. He’s just never showed interest in getting to know people and he’s never once mentioned a significant other to anyone... you know how usually that shit just kinda slips out in passing. I don’t know, it’s just an observation.”
“Well now that it’s out, it’s spreading like wildfire. Everyone seems to know now.”
“That’s the fun part of working at Blue Ridge.” She said over the sound of your jets starting up. “Everybody is in everybody else’s business. I’m just surprised that y’all were able to keep it a secret as long as you did.”
“It was more out of fear than anything else.” You started as you looked over at the familiar rumble of a pick up truck and its tires coming up your gravel drive. “He was worried about my job, I was worried about his. Now that people know, it’s like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders.”
“Is that his truck?” You nodded your head and turned the slightest bit to yell at Clark that you were down stairs when he got out of his truck. “Does he live here?”
“We go back and forth between here and his place. We have been slowly starting to throw around the idea of getting a place but it’s still just pillow talk.”
“I swear, you live in that hot tub.” Clark teased as he walked through the side fence.
“Sue me, I’m a mermaid.”
“Got that right.” He chuckled as he came into the screened in porch. “Hello, Sarah.”
“How’s it going, boss man.” She teased. “Or is it baby daddy now?”
“Clark still works just fine.” He laughed as he leaned over the side to kiss your forehead. “I’m gunna go shower and wash this day off me and thank God we have the next two days off.”
“For doctors appointments.” You pointed out. “So many doctors appointments.” With a nod of his head, he said good bye to Sarah and headed inside, while your friend simply shook her head at you.
“Luckiest bitch in the world.” She muttered when she was sure the down stairs door to your house was closed.
“I know.” You laughed with a shrug as you stretched your legs out under the water and got even more comfortable in front of your jets. “He’s a heaven sent angel for sure. That man has the patience of a saint to put up with all my crazy.”
“Yea, and we both know how much crazy that is.” She laughed, which made you pout and splash some water in her direction.
“I’m serious though. He puts up with me and helps me not spiral out of control better than my own mother can. I seriously have no idea how or why he has stuck around this long...”
“Because you are worth it, (Y/N). You are worth this happiness I can actually see in your eyes. You deserve to be happy just like the rest of us... well, not me. I’m a piece of shit.”
“And you have Larry.” You pointed out as you turned in your chair to grab your bottle of water off the side.
“Two fucked up sides to the same coin.” She laughed, whole heartedly. “God, I love that man. Pain in my ass, and I definitely don’t deserve him, but I love him for loving me all the same. We should all grab dinner sometime. Like a...”
“If you say ‘double date’ to me right now, I will drown you, pregnant or not.”
“Spoil sport.”
——
“So I’ve been thinking...”
“Oh that’s a dangerous thing to do.” Clark teased as he got ready for bed later that night.
“Maybe it’s time to revisit us moving in together and buying a house.” Your boyfriend actually froze half way through taking his under shirt off and stared at you as you looked away from your Facebook feed and up at him through your lashes. “Save money before the baby comes and all.”
“So you wanna buy a house to save money.” He laughed as he took off his shirt and tossed it in the laundry basket. “What brought this on?”
“Well.” You breathed as you turned off your phone screen and rolled over onto your side to face him. “Sarah asked if we were living together when she saw you pull up and I told her we were just talking about it, but the only reason I have been hesitant about it was because of work but since work knows, there really isn’t an issue anymore so there isn’t any reason not to now, right?” He nodded his head slowly as he put his folded jeans on his dresser for the morning and sat down on his side of the bed facing you.
“You know that I have wanted to move in with you for months.” He started as he reached out to put his hand on your hip. “So I am beyond excited at the idea of this actually happening. But I want to make sure that you are ready for this and not just jumping into it because you think its gunna make other people happy.”
“No, I know.” You agreed as you scooted forward so you were a little closer to him. “I have wanted to live with you since you asked me to. I know it’s a big step and yes, its already stressing me out, but I know that at the end of it all, I will be with you. And that’s all I want. I just want to be with you. You make me so happy, more than I’ll ever deserve. And I know that it’s time to take the next step in our lives together. Besides that, we can’t really start our family living in two different houses, one of which is with my mother...”
“OK, well that is another thing we need to discuss.” He said as he leaned over so that he was propped up on the bed behind you with his elbow but still partially laying on your legs. “Because I already know you well enough to know that your mother is a big part of your support group and moving you too far away from her isn’t going to work for both of your sakes. She needs you as much as you need her...”
“OK...”
“And there aren’t many properties in this area for sale right now. Trust me, I’ve been keeping an eye on it for a few months.”
“Of course you have.” You giggled as you propped yourself up on your hand to see him a little better.
“But, there are two different plots of land, one across the street and one a little ways up the road that are up for sale and are pretty cheap. We could possibly build a house...”
“We could... And there’s also the bottom of mom’s property...”
“What, in her yard?”
“No, the neighbor’s old garden.” You replied a you gestured in that direction. “Mom made that comment when we first moved up here, of me possibly building down there so she’s a little less alone on the mountain. If that’s not too crazy of an idea to you, we could talk to her and see if she’s still ok with something like that and maybe see if she would sell us that land. Maybe, I don’t know...”
“Honestly, knowing you as well as I do, that would be the best case scenario here.” He agreed.
“That’s not weird for you?” He smirked and shook his head as he moved his hand enough to rub your back.
“Baby, I love you. And I know that family is important to you. I knew a long time ago that we’d be living near your mother and I don’t have an issue with that now, like I didn’t when I realized that. I like your mom, she’s funny...”
“Oh, don’t ever let her hear you say that.” You laughed as you reached down to run your fingers through his dark curls.
“And I know she respects boundaries enough that it’s not going to turn into an ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ situation. But we need to talk to her. And we need to really think about this and make sure building a house is something we wanna do right now. It takes a while to do, and there’s a chance, even if we start on Monday with talking to the city and getting the ball rolling, we might not be in the house before the baby is born... Youve stopped listening, haven’t you?”
“No, I’m hearing you.” You said through your giant smile.
“No you’re not.” He laughed as he sat up and gave you a chaste kiss. “We’ll talk to mom after your morning appointment.”
“You’re way to good to me.” You sighed as he got up to brush his teeth for bed.
“I’m just treating you like you deserve, sweetheart. That’s all.”
——
“OK, scale of one to ten.” Clark said behind you as you walked through your almost finished house, making sure all the details were exactly right like you did every night you got home from work. “How badly do you crave a trip to Disney?” You stopped and looked back at him before gesturing to the Disney character drawer pulls that you had put on the drawers of the dressers in your closet, and the Star Wars ones in your bathroom.
“Really?” You asked as you gestured toward the guest bathroom, that was going to be finished to look like the hallway in the Haunted Mansion, and the stacks of boxes in the master bedroom behind him of the collection of Disney things the pair of you had collected over the years. “Really?”
“So like a four?”
“Like a ten million.”
“Enough to wanna go on a short baby moon in a few weeks?”
“Is that why I was approved for my paid time off days that I never requested off?” You giggled as you turned turned back to the closet to look at the painting that got finished in there today. He laughed whole heartedly behind you and nodded his head behind your back.
“I thought I beat the response on that and we gotta use them anyways or we lose them. Hey...” You paused your inspection and turned around with your hands on your bump and your back, and he smiled and pulled you toward him by your shirt. “Let’s go to Disney for a bit. The house is close to being done, you haven’t found a single issue with it in the the last seven months, and I think we should just relax for a few days while we still can. Before Wendy comes...”
“Her name is Evangeline.” You countered with a smile. “The sooner you accept that...”
“Yea, yea, yea.” He chuckled, knowing that your daughter’s name was going to be Evangeline (since he picked it out in the first place), but just wanting to pick on you to see the cute annoyed face you gave him every time. “I’m still partial to Tegan...”
“Then you shouldn’t have given me Evangeline.” You said in a sing song voice as you turned to head back up to your mom’s place for dinner, since your kitchen was not even close to being finished yet. “It’s all your fault.”
“You haven’t given me an answer, sweetheart.”
“Why do we have to wait a few weeks to go?” You asked as you stepped over some boxes of flooring that was waiting to go in your kitchen once the island was installed.
“Because that’s the way it works.” He countered as he helped you squeeze between all of the  cabinets for the kitchen and the bathrooms that were going up later that week when the painters were done. “That’s when I could get a site at Fort Wilderness so we can use your mom’s camper to save us some money...”
“Wait, how are we affording Disney right now? We have so much money tied up in the build...?”
“I still know people working at Disney, sweetheart. So I called in a few favors from people who were more than happy to spare some tickets, let us use their discounts, and spread a little pixie dust on two expecting Disney fanatics.”
“Ok, but even still, it’s gunna cost us...” You tried as you stepped out the front door on to the porch.
“Let me worry about that.” Clark interrupted as he locked the door and you turned back to face him.
“You can’t keep doing that.” You said softly with a shake of your head. “You can’t shut me down when it comes to money anymore. I understand you want to give me the world and you don’t want me to ever have to worry, but that’s not how this works. We’re building a house, and starting a family, Clark. And you can’t take on that financial responsibility alone no matter how long you have saved up for it. You’re not the only one who has. But you have to let me... please. Because otherwise, I will keep canceling orders on things like the paint, and those drawer knobs, and these rocking chairs and rebuying them on my name, on my cards...”
“I was wondering how I had more money in my account than I should have.” He sighed as he sat down on one of the two rockers and gestured for you to sit down as well. “I don’t like it...”
“You don’t have to like it.” You grumbled as you sort of just flopped down after a long day on your feet. “Just like I don’t have to like growing a child. We still gotta do it though.” With one more sigh, he nodded and sat back in his chair.
“I’ve had money for the house for years. Evangeline is throwing me for a bit of a loop, but I um... well I opened another credit card and it’s covering her expenses...”
“Clark, you didn’t have to do that.” You sighed as you leaned to the side the slightest bit to reach out for his hand. “Because you’re not the only one saving money here. And there’s no point in me saving money just for it to gain interest in a bank when it could be used to help us better ourselves by... oh I don’t know, buying a crib and diapers and cute little dresses and sweaters and little baby booties. It can buy those towels I love for the guest bathroom, which, by the way, it already has and they will be delivered on Tuesday.”
“I thought you changed your mind on those and that’s why they were canceled.”
“Nope, just repurchased.” You clarified as you sat back to rock yourself back and forth.
“I’m sorry, (Y/N).” He said softly after a few moments. “It’s just... hard. I was raised to be the man of the house and that leaves me with the burden.”
“And if that’s the case, then I’ll stay at home and parent. But either way, I still have money saved that can help us out here, OK? Money for a house, and a wedding. May even be able to afford a trip to Disney and the baby I’m growing, too. So you are not allowed to take on the burden of our life together alone anymore. Or you can sleep in my mom’s basement while I enjoy our house with Evangeline all by ourselves.”
“Alright, fine. You win.” He breathed with a nod. “You’re going to be the death of me, you know that, right?”
“Oh, don’t you know it.” You giggled as you stood up to head home. “Come on, I’m hungry.”
I was fascinated when I learned two years passed in universe between Homecoming and Infinity War. Could you please make some kind of list of all the training / fun / bonding time you imagine Peter and Tony undoubtedly spent together between those movies? Thanks
Hi!
I have a long list but I want to give you ‘things that are semi-canon’ for people who want to incorporate this info in their fanfics or just want to know more about irondad.
Things that are semi-canon
1. Doing projects together:
It’s semi-canon that Peter about helped tony build a program for kids interested in tech, see this post for info. Also, Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed Peter upgraded the web-shooters Tony made him, the only way Peter can upgrade such technology is in an advanced lab, and this happened between HOCO and IW, so guess who borrowed him a place to work?
Also: Tony’s invitation. Concept art for sure but since the Spider-Signal is something Peter used in Homecoming, this is pretty much canon.
Tumblr media
2. Tony making projects about Peter:
Tony Stark founded the Worldwide Engineering Brigade or WEB, to develop advancements in super-powered technology and guess what’s his debut project? Spider-Man’s suit.
All of this is from Walt Disney Imagineering’s Global Marvel Portfolios, they work closely with Studios and Entertainment and with Ryan Meinerding, Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, he designed all of Spider-Man’s suits for the most recent films (Civil War, Homecoming, Infinity War, Endgame and Far from Home). ALSO, it was revealed that the organization is going to be incorporated into upcoming comics and movies, so yes we’re going to see this in future marvel movies so let’s just say this is also pretty much canon.
This is a Stark-founded organization with Spider-Man as the main inspiration. Let’s also take a moment to acknowledge that Tony made a vehicle called ‘Web-Slinger’ lmaooo
Here, there’s even a logo for this:
3. Tony gives Peter his own workshop/workspace at Stark Industries or his own lab:
YES, that’s right, now it’s pretty much canon just like in fanfics!
This is Peter’s commentary about Tony’s project about Spider-Man: ‘Now, you must be thinking: can’t Tony Stark just give all recruits a suit of armor or something? Why is he getting a bunch of science students and amateur inventors to make stuff? But, actually, it was Mr. Stark himself who said that he wanted to help up-and-coming inventors…See what we can come up with that maybe he hasn’t thought of. He’s even given us our own building/workshop to do that! Plus, he’s gotten people like Pym Technologies and the Wakandan Design Group to donate a lot of their old tech to WEB to see what we can reverse-engineer from it.‘
btw, to the people that SWEAR Tony is ‘jealous’ of other inventors… lmao He basically asked Hank, Hope, and Shuri to donate technology for genius students and inventors.
4. Tony gives Peter his credit card to buy whatever he wants:
Spoilers for Far from Home.
In FFH, Happy mentions that while Peter was staying at the Kurhotel Ströszek, he spent a night there before going home and he pay-per-viewed a video in his room to watch an adult film.
5. Peter has a room and visits the Avengers Compound:
As stated by Tony himself: ‘Happy will show you to your room…your new quarters. Where’s he between? He’s next to Vision.’
Tumblr media
And between HOCO and IW, there’s a two-year gap, it’s safe to say Peter went there to train and possibly even spent nights in his own room. How do I know this?
Tumblr media
Wanda said it herself in IW, ‘For two years, we’ve stolen these moments… trying to see if this could work and…I don’t know.’
Bruce as well: ‘Wow. You guys…really look like crap. Must’ve beena rough couple of years.’
In Ant-Man and the Wasp, the movie is before Infinity War:
‘He’s allowed to return to the U.S., provided he serve two years under house arrest’ ‘Give me a break. I haven’t driven in two years.’ ‘Oh, hey guys. Are my two years up already?’
Tumblr media
6. Spider-Man and Iron Man fought together/did missions together and the public knows it:
This is for the social media irondad fanfic fans!
Spoilers for Far from Home.
In the movie, reporters asked Peter stuff that hardly a lot of people would know without Tony providing this information.
They asked Peter if he was the head Avenger now, they asked him what it’s like to take over from Tony Stark and that those are some big shoes to fill. Why are they asking Spider-Man out of all people when Thor is there, Bruce is there, Rhodey is there, Pepper is there, and the other amount of superheroes that are currently alive? I bet Tony never shut up about Spider-Man lmao.
Nick Fury repeatedly reminds Peter that Tony chose him and even tells him that Tony dedicated this quote to him: ‘Stark left these for you. Really?  “Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.” Stark said you wouldn’t get that because it’s not a Star Wars reference.’ Something that wouldn’t happen if Peter wasn’t a topic of conversion very often.
Fury even tells Peter that everyone in SHIELD already knows who he is: ‘Remove the mask. Everyone here has seen you without it.’
And the way they work so well together in IW tells me enough.
Also, can we talk about how proudly Tony portrays Spider-Man everywhere?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Ironfamily spending time together:
I think it’s safe to say that the ironfam is no longer just a concept but something pretty much canon. I have the feeling Peter got to spend time with all of them, and here’s the evidence:
Pepper knew Peter back then in Homecoming and repeatedly tried to save him in Endgame. In Far from Home, Happy tells Peter that Pepper is sorry that she couldn’t attend to his charity and sent a check. She didn’t need to attend at all even if Peter was close to Tony, but she was going to and that should tell you something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Happy’s been there for Peter as well since Homecoming, but he was really not that close to him, between those two years between HOCO and IW you can tell he got close to him as well giving by their interactions in Far from Home. He’s head of security and has the confidence of giving Peter his phone, his password and is there available for him anytime Peter needs it. Even if this is out of nowhere for me, the fact that Happy is practically dating Peter’s aunt, with May stating that she and Happy are always going to be friends no matter what.
This is a relationship that must’ve been developing between HOCO and IW because May did disappear during the Blip while Happy didn’t.
Tumblr media
Rhodey knows Peter since Civil War, and he even teams up and goes along Peter’s plan back then. In Infinity War, when Bruce asks if there are an ant-man and a spider-man, Rhodey just shrugs like it’s something usual like he’s used to it. Last but not least, the fact that Rhodey steps away from Tony while he was dying to let Peter have his moment with him tells you A LOT.
This is a concept art from Endgame, Ironfam fighting together. The writers wanted this, so I’m going to take it as canon lmao
Tumblr media
.
I’ll add some more content later and feel free to add more yourself if you want♥
Thanks for asking!
I’m sort of doing this thing where I’m reading books and keeping a log of it, and if there’s a movie adaptation I try to watch it before moving on to the next book in the series. So I’ve been meaning to get to Prince Caspian for a while now after reading the book.
This one’s weird because a large chunk of the Chronicles of Narnia fandom doesn’t like this movie very much. And I pretty much loved it since I saw it in theaters? It’s not as faithful to the book as the previous film, but that doesn’t make it bad. I’m still struck by the design of the film, which stands out from most fantasy films of the time (and many today), and it’s got a lot of action! That’s enough to make me dig a fantasy movie.
_Prince Caspian_ is the second installment of Walden Media’s Chronicles of Narnia film series and the sequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It’s also the last film in the series that was made by Disney, as they quit because they were disappointed by this one’s reception. Walden Media managed to get another studio to fund and distribute the third movie.
After a year in England, the Pevensies come back to Narnia to find that over a thousand years have passed. The country’s been conquered by the Telmarines who have driven the Narnia creatures into hiding, thinking they’d been wiped out. The Telmarine prince, Caspian X, is sympathetic to Narnians but didn’t know they still existed--that is, until he has to run from the palace and lead them in rebellion against his uncle who wants him dead to take the throne. The Pevensies are there to help of course, but Peter butts heads with Caspian (and his siblings) on how to best fight this war. And Aslan’s nowhere to be seen, except by Lucy, who can’t convince the others to follow that lead.
This movie does actually have a lot of content from the book, just rearranged or recontextualized. The Plot is completely reworked and I don’t mind that because a huge chunk of Caspian’s story in the book is being told to the Pevensies by Trumpkin--that would be a very frustrating way to tell his story in the movie. Some things, like the animals holding faith for Aslan when others don’t, is implied by the way scenes are done rather than outright told to the audience.
There are some things that are in both the book and movie, but the movie doesn’t quite explain what that’s about. The sparring match between Edmund and Trumpkin doesn’t really make much sense in the movie.
There’s also the attack on the castle. This sequence is invented entirely for the movie, and while it’s frustrating in a similar way that Finn and Rose’s subplot in The Last Jedi is, the book does mention the Narnians losing some battles and so actually showing that to the audience is fine. Also I like seeing the way they apply griffins and mice in the raid. That’s cool thinking and I wish to see more fantasy films think about how fantasy creatures might be used on military operations.
Also I really like the design of this movie? The Narnian side mostly keeps the same designs for their weapons and armor, but it’s a lot more worn down, and that makes sense because they’ve been hiding in the woods for a few hundred years. They don’t have new weapons. The Telmarines, on the other hand, look fantastic. For their culture, WETA Workshop was inspired by Spanish and Italian culture, so instead of longswords they use side swords and falchions, and their armor brings to mind a combination of Spanish conquistadors, Italian condottieri, and Japanese samurai. They look more Renaissance than medieval and I love it.
The cast is also matched up to that, with Spanish and Italian actors playing the roles of Telmarines. Ben Barnes is an exception, as he’s English, but he’s putting on his best Inigo Montoya impression as Caspian.
You know what? Let’s talk about this cast. Ben Barnes, back when he wasn’t just playing villains. I remember classmates in high school saying that he’s too old, but if he is that’s because the actor playing Peter is also too old. Caspian is supposed to be the same age as Peter, so I didn’t mind it here. I think he overdoes the whole “YOU KILLED MY FATHER” thing but I don’t think that’s Ben Barnes’s fault as much as he’s working with the Plot point that’s been sandwiched into the story.
William Moseley does very well in playing Peter as he’s written for this movie, the problem is that Peter in this movie is written to be an absolute prat. His whole arc in this movie is about learning that he doesn’t have to be in charge and to let Aslan take the wheel. This would make sense if his life experience was only what we saw in the last movie’s adventure, but we know that he apparently grew up in Narnia and became a successful and wise warrior king. So him being so full of himself here doesn’t make sense. I got over it, as I see what they were going for, deconstructing how a kid might feel after his time in Narnia, but it is very annoying and it makes Peter very unlikable.
Unlike Edmund, played by Skandar Keyes, who is absolutely THE SHIZ in this movie. Having learned his lesson from the last movie, Edmund is a cheeky wonder child who takes no crap from anyone. He doesn’t have that much of an arc in this movie, but he is great to watch, so I forgive it. He’s the guy who keeps his head screwed on straight when Peter and Caspian need someone to keep them grounded.
Anna Popplewell’s Susan is good? They still go with her being the “reasonable” one, albeit a little less uptight than in the first movie. They have this thing in the movie in which she and Caspian are definitely into each other and I don’t think that’s too out there--in the books Susan had at least half a dozen suitors when she was queen--it does mean that a lot of her character arc is dedicated to that, and we know that it goes nowhere. This one clearly implies that she’s having trouble holding faith in things she doesn’t see in front of her, and that’s a fascinating direction that doesn’t go quite as far in this movie as it could.
And Lucy. Georgie Henley as Lucy is still delightful. They removed and rearranged a lot of the material from the book in her character arc which is a shame, because I really like a lot of that stuff. As the one who still has the faith and wants to see the magic in Narnia when even the Narnians are giving up hope, she has to come across as sympathetic and believable. That doesn’t always work, especially when she does things like walk up to a bear that’s about to attack her, not realizing that it’s not talking (there ARE non-talking animals in Narnia, dear!). But for the most part she works in this movie.
You know Peter Dinklage is in this movie as Trumpkin? I find it odd that he made it big on a fantasy show that was billed as deconstructing usual fantasy tropes while heavily featuring sex and violence when he also starred in the film adaptation of a famously Christian book series and one of the giants of the fantasy genre. He does okay. I mean I like that Trumpkin is this grumpy guy who is cynical and tired of everyone and just wants to go home, but I don’t know if Peter Dinklage is acting or just… cynical and tired of everyone and wants to go home. It’s entertaining sometimes, but not brilliant.
And Warwick Davis is in this movie? He was in the BBC series as well, but instead of as Reepicheep this time he’s playing Nikabrik, the dwarf that is even more cynical than Trumpkin and hates all humans. It feels weird for me seeing him as a villain, though I know he’s done it before. I always had trouble with Nikabrik as a character because I always felt like him going full-on evil was… well, everyone seemed strangely unperturbed by that in the book, even if we had an idea of how we got there. In the movie I felt as if Warwick Davis does well in that you get him, and you get where he’s coming from, but not enough to agree. And other characters react to his turn in a way that’s appropriate.
Ken Stott voices Trufflehunter and he does not have enough to do in this movie. Trufflehunter is not that Plot-relevant in the book, but I always had the impression that he was an important character and one of the most prominent Narnians in the story. He’s okay here, but I really thought that he should be doing more in the story. Maybe the filmmakers didn’t think it would fit the darker tone they were going for, if there was a badger running around in many of the scenes? I don’t know, I wanted more.
We do, however, get quite a bit of Eddie Izzard as Reepicheep, which is fantastic because Reepicheep is fantastic. This mouse is amazing. There were some people very surprised that a mouse is going around killing people, but it’s a fantasy film, he’s a knight, and also it wasn’t as if the first movie didn’t have violence? I’m frustrated that the movies don’t go with the “talking animals are bigger than normal animals” EXCEPT with Reepicheep, because it’s pretty darn weird that all the other animals are ordinary-sized and the talking mice are the size of cats. But Reepicheep is very entertaining, very cool, and he’s great.
Sergio Castellitto plays a surprisingly sharp Miraz? Yeah, Plot-wise he’s generically evil, but I think that Castellitto makes him A) entertaining to watch, and B) convey that he knows that he’s the least popular guy in the room with the other Telmarine lords. The book version of Miraz has no idea that they’re plotting against him. Miraz in this movie does, and although he’s definitely not bright enough to realize exactly what they’re doing, by the end of the movie he knows that they’re happy to watch him die.
Pierfrancesco Pavino’s Glozelle, for instance, is barely a person in the book? He shows up to stab Miraz in the back. Here, not only is he not the person who does that, but the movie makes him very uncomfortable with the direction Miraz’s path to power is taking, despite remaining loyal until almost the very end. He’s a complex, conflicted character and I like him.
And also noticeable is Damian Alcazar as Sopespian, a guy who doesn’t like Miraz, but is no more likable because of it. Because he’s obviously not doing it for any sense of the greater good, he’s doing it because he wants that power for himself. I don’t think anyone mistakes his motives or thinks of him as a secret good guy at any point in the movie, which I think speaks to the actor’s performance.
Liam Neeson is Aslan. He does great, though he really doesn’t have that many lines. Which is part of the point, that he’s not there for most of the movie, so it works, I think.
Also Tilda Swinton’s in this movie. There is some justification for it, but I think it was because she loved being in the first movie, and they loved having her in it, so they just brought her back.
I like fantasy movies with lots of action and sword fights and cool design choices. So no, Prince Caspian isn’t that faithful of an adaptation of the source material (though it’s more faithful than people give it credit for), and I do get frustrated with character arcs--mostly Peter’s. But I still really love this movie, and I have tons of fun every time I watch it.
