The thing that intrigues me about The Winchesters is that no matter what, it ends in tragedy. Even if John is sweet and kind and he and Mary do fall in love on their own, with each other or with other people...we know where they end up. So every funny quip, every happy ending episode, every time Mary is hopeful or John is sweet or Carlos and Latika are fun and lovable...there's a dark edge to it. Because it only ends one way. There is no other ending to this story.
Mary and John are made to fall in love by a cupid. They get married and live an uneasy life together for ten years. They fight and John drinks and Mary runs off on secret hunts when the pressure of home becomes too much. The last night they have together, John sleeps downstairs in a recliner in front of the television.
The last sound he ever hears is Mary's scream as Azazel tortures her. John, out of grief or guilt or maybe both, becomes an obsessed shell of a man who neglects and abuses the children Mary loved so much that meeting them and facing what he became is yet another trauma she has to live through. He dies saving Dean because it's the only absolution he can give himself. His presence is a scar on his sons' lives that never fades. And as for Carlos and Latika...well, we learn early on that all of Mary's family and friends, everyone who ever knew her, have mysteriously died.
This show is going to fucking wreck me.

I'm on my (millionth) Arcane rewatch, and, well.
I usually love it when 2 of my favorite pieces of media have parallels but this is not a good omen

Y'all the Copenhagen Stock Exchange burning almost exactly 5 years after and just like Notre Dame, especially given the fact that it's even called Denmark's Notre Dame, is a kind of moment when it feels like the universe is in on some kind of sick joke.
