Got into discord discourse over visenya and a few other female witch archetypes and it's like....... why are some people so resistant to recontextualisation and reexamination of archetypes by reenacting them through another view. It's something that Martin does ALL THE TIME (it's what he does the most as a literary trait I think) and it's not like. Misogynistic to think women practiced magic. The misogyny comes from women practicing Magic = evil

Particularly when so many male characters, particularly disabled men, which are a trope of their own, do practice magic intently, to deny the idea of female characters as witches due to the virtue signal of "all powerful women are derided as witches" feels odd. Thinking a lot about Shiera Seastar, Visenya Targaryen, Danelle Lothston, etc etc - doubly so when we see that in Westeros and Essos, magical practice are a trade of cripples, Bastards and broken things, of those in the societal periphery (see the blood magicians Arya meets in Braavos)

I can't get into x reader fics because usually they're too passive for me, and I'm not into self-insert, but there is one from an old fandom I was in that I immediately went to save after ao3 came back up, because it's the complete opposite. The reader character is so bloodthirsty and vicious and steps on the nasty tumblr sexyman from the game. The two of them hunt down and kill one another repeatedly, and the reader woos the object of their "affection" by basically giving him a death grudge against them. It's the power fantasy of being a wicked fucking bastard while disrespectfully flirting at your shitty fav, and honestly it was a religious experience reading it the first time.
