Indie Game Spotlight: The Wayhaven Chronicles (@seraphinitegames)
This week’s Indie Game Spotlight has graced our Fandometrics list for the past few weeks. The Wayhaven Chronicles is a supernatural interactive fiction series with a focus on romance, characters, and narrative. Your choices help shape the world, those characters, and the story, as well as the romance you choose to pursue. The game is made to be something people can escape to, fall in love with, and immerse themselves in completely.
We spoke with Mishka Jenkins, creator, writer, and coder of the game. “It’s just me at Seraphinite Games, but I have great support from many people, including one of my closest friends and editor, Heather, my wonderful readers/testers, and the team at Hosted Games!”
What's the difference between Book One and Book Two (without spoilers!)?
Book One was very much the introductory book, kind of like the pilot of a TV show. Book Two starts delving into the intensity of the story and setting up the many paths the main character may take based on what they choose to pursue. It also starts to get more in-depth with the romances, which is not only my favorite part but seems to be many others’ too!
How does The Wayhaven Chronicles balance writing and game mechanics?
Interactive fiction allows for a great deal of balance between writing and game mechanics. The Wayhaven Chronicles is not a stat-based game. I wanted to move away from ‘point watching,’ where you play a game and try to reach a certain number of points with other characters or in certain stats. That’s not a mechanic that suits my play style, and it never truly lets me immerse myself in a story.
That’s why I made Wayhaven much more choice-based. The story is reactionary, based on the players’ actual choices, whether that is immediate or triggers something much later into the series. This allows me to add a much greater depth of narrative variation, which is personal to the player, rather than just changing or triggering due to points.
Tumblr media
How does character creation work?
Character creation offers a wide variety of choices, from base options such as gender, sexuality, and appearance, to more fun options like apartment-style and clothing choice, to those deeper options such as your relationship status with different characters, your character’s background and opinion on many topics in-game.
In Wayhaven, these choices aren’t just all sprung at you at the beginning of the game in a character creation screen. They come up naturally during the narrative so you can enjoy fleshing out your character as they grow within the game.
New choices will come with each book in the series, to mimic the way people always change and grow with new experiences, which the main character will get plenty of.
If you could have any pop culture detective character make a special appearance in the game, who would it be?
My first reaction was Sherlock from the BBC series, but how well Sherlock would fit in with Unit Bravo—the team of vampires your human character is part of—has me chuckling. Some of the vampires of Unit Bravo don’t play well with others!
Tumblr media
Are there any specific pieces of fan art on Tumblr that have been your favorite?
I adore all of the fan creations, and it would be a serious struggle to pick only a few. I could get lost all day, just looking at the incredible creations under the Wayhaven Chronicles tag on Tumblr…and I’ll admit, I totally have! Not only the fan art but the memes and comments too…they’re all fantastic and keep me smiling for hours!
You can get the newest release, The Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Two, from Hosted Games’ website, Steam, Google Play, the iPhone App Store, and Amazon. (You can find Book One in these places, too.) Want to jump into the community? Ask questions and get the behind-the-scenes look on their Tumblr here!

Andi Mack 3x20 Review
We Were Here was a historic episode that finally let Cyrus and TJ canon and was the best ending the series could hope for. Let’s dig in!
It’s been a long road but Cyrus Goodman and Thelonious Jagger Kippen are now boyfriends and we witnessed two gay boys holding hands on Disney Channel. It took two thirds of the series but we’ve gone from the muffin scene to the bench scene.
There’s a lot of obvious censorship and flaws to write about but I’ll do that later and for tonight I’d look to focus on all the good in this episode and this series.
Tyrus are the first canon gay couple on Disney Channel but they won’t be the last and one day, hopefully soon, it won’t be seen as a historic or unusual event to have LGBTQ rep on children’s tv.
Josh and Luke did such a great job with this whole story line and they killed it in the bench scene, so much depended on their body language and facial expressions and it was a beautiful scene. When they both exhaled after holding hands, that was powerful.
I liked that we saw Cyrus go out to initiate the conversation but it was TJ who reached out with his hand and took that risk to bring them together. A callback of sorts to his first conversation with Cyrus where he told him to ‘’walk to the muffin like you already own it’’.
TJ has always been an active character and we saw that in full force tonight as he stood up for Cyrus and ended his friendship with Kira and then went up on stage and started playing Born This Way and of course he was the one to take Cyrus’ hand.
The one good thing I’ll say about the Kira plot is that she was disposed of early and only got a minute of screen time and she thankfully didn’t get redeemed. Her line about TJ choosing Cyrus over her probably registers as her demanding TJ only be friends with her to kids but to those in the know it’s a clear ultimatum to either be straight with her or gay with Cyrus. Loved TJ’s line that she melted after he threw water on her.
Really good character development for TJ as the former bully stands up to a bully. TJ has had such an amazing arc from the mean basketball captain introduced in 2x03; there really was a nice person inside of him trying to get out and Cyrus helped him with that. And even in the finale we still learn new things about him: his name, that his mom is a piano teacher, that he plays the piano, and for the casual audience that he’s gay and likes Cyrus.
I’d guess we’re meant to see TJ starting Born that Way as a statement of sorts on his part, especially since Cyrus is the one to start singing and he later moves to join TJ on stage and it’s their performance that leads to the bench scene.
I’m happy that the bench itself was 3 minutes and that Tyrus got ample screen time in the finale as did Muffy. I’m glad that Luke got to choose TJ’s name and it’s very on brand that he snuck a Shrek reference into it. And kudos to Terri for getting the bench scene approved and for getting the last 40 seconds of the scene where Tyrus canons to actually air.
It was definitely random and I did not expect them to land the rights to a Lady Gaga song but it was a fun scene and it was nice to see most of the cast involved; this must have been what Lilan meant when she said at Fan Fest that we’d see characters interacting who had never interacted before.
Muffy was great. I’m really glad they brought Garren back, whatever other ending they would have had to write for Buffy just wouldn’t have had the same impact. Loved that they call backed to their first conversation. Liked that Marty chased after Buffy and that after she told him how she felt that he was the one to grab her hands and kiss her and then put his arm around her before they walked back in to the party. Probably the sweetest kiss we’ve seen on the series and a very fitting end for the Muffy story line.
Liked the Jandi scene, I’m sure they’ll get back together when they’re older and I’m glad they brought the bracelet back. Jonah saying ‘’Love you Andiman’’ was so sweet and a great last line for the series.
Bexie dancing was sweet, though I wish they had just done it at the wedding.
Did not expect Celia to be in the dino costume! Glad she got to experience the party for a bit.
Andi got into SAVA and is going to use Andi Shack as a studio. Really sweet to take a new photo of the GHC. What an interesting convo they’ll have at the spoon the next day when Cyrus tells them what was so life changing about the party.
Sweet lookback at the important scenes at Andi Shack.
Now we know why they needed semi-pro basketball players for the re-shoots, wonder if the flash forwards were a late addition then.
Glad they didn’t bring up the timeline like the texts did so we don’t have to pretend the finale took place in June.
Nice to see the Mackchat kids finally be able to talk about Tyrus openly as a romantic relationship. It will go a long way to normalizing same sex relationships among kids. As they said, it’s been them all along from the muffin to the swings to the bench.
Looking Back:
Andi Mack really was a special show. Yes it fell short at times but when it was at its best there was nothing like it on tv. It leaves a big void and I hope other shows fill it sooner rather than later. Right from the pilot to the finale it tackled so many important issues: teen pregnancy, unconventional families, therapy, financial issues, coming out, panic attacks, learning disabilities, bullying, manipulation, guns, Chinese and Jewish culture, racism, sign language, sexism, and stereotypes.
Andi Mack made history again and again, right from Andi discovering Bex was her mother to Cyrus coming out to Buffy and Andi and Jonah and saying the words, I’m Gay, to Cyrus getting together with TJ. There are no other characters like Cyrus Goodman or TJ Kippen anywhere on kids tv and I hope we see more characters like them soon, on Disney Channel and elsewhere.
All the cast and crew and writers deserve so much praise for making such a wonderful show and I don’t know when we’ll ever see such a talented, passionate group again. I hope they all go on to big things and find happiness and success with whatever they choose to do.
And a big thank you to all of my followers. It’s been such an honour to be part of this fandom and to have so many people read my posts and send me asks, I never imagined when I started this blog last March that I’d get so involved but I’m glad I did. I’ve made a lot of great friends and have had so much fun. This show has had one wild journey for a Disney Channel show and I’m glad we were here together to experience it.
I’ll still be around, answering asks, liking and re-blogging posts, keeping up with any last interviews or information we get related to the show. And one last reminder to tag your posts and re-blogs with Tyrus and Andi Mack so we can get #1 on Fandometrics. Thank you for reading this long ass post and all my other long ass posts and I wish each and every one of you all the best and I hope that the memories we’ve made here and our memories of the show provide comfort as we go on with our lives.
Love, Dave.

Still thinking about that post!! About the platonic male friendships. Annnnnd one thing I’ll say is the whole “why can’t two guys just be friends/it’s so rare to see healthy relationships between men in media” is it’s such bullshit lmao like every fucking movie and tv show and book where the main cast is like “6 cool guys! and this one big-boob girl” what do you think those 6 guys are, strangers shopping in the same aisle at Walmart? NO. They’re fucking friends! Rare, my ass.
And the thing about fujoshi/yaoi shippers that always grossed me out is how they hide behind supposed allyship (and feminism) to be fetishistic and invasive and creepy. And it’s not just “oooh I wonder if they’re gay, I ship them now” (which can be creepy, especially irt real people), but just how comfortable they feel writing/drawing/discussing the finer, explicit sexual details of men and boys with all the humanity, intimacy, and respect stripped away. And to be frank so much of this content is geared toward underaged pairings.
Shipping isn’t a dirty thing. Everyone does it. Even though we think of shipping as actively pursuing or contributing to content about a pairing, you can ship unconsciously. And I think you can ship minors I guess, you can root fir some kid to find love, and that’s technically shipping. But this month alone saw a resurgence in one ship in particular (check tumblr’s fandometrics and you’ll get an idea), and while most of it is harmless content of like boys holding hands for the first time or getting ice cream, and there’s also content generated for their adult selves, there’s a disturbing amount of sexual stuff and that’s not right!!! And if a queer man said something about it like “Hey so uh could you maybe not make this? it’s lowkey pedo” we’d get screamed at and added to a blocklist and sent droves of hate mail about being toxic and policing fandom and oh this one gets me every time “Telling me I, a 31-year-old woman, can’t write fics about two fifteen-year-old boys fucking is misogynistic! I’m expressing my sexuality!”
You know damn well... that if there was an internationally famous girl group called “Five Directions,” and if you content on your dash every day about two of its members, Hannah and Lisa, in a secret lesbian relationship, and fanart and fan fiction created by adult men flooded the tags, there would be hell to pay. You know that would raise a red flag!!! Because it wouldn’t be right, and it’s not right now.

Aggregate Data and Meaningful Conclusions: A Response to Fansplaining’s Fandom Study
Before I get into this, I just want to give a quick update on a few things.
1)      I am still looking for a new home for the AO3 DataFan project. Pillowfort may be viable in a few years, but it’s not currently viable as it lacks a lot of the key infrastructure needed to make these posts (and it’s chunky and buggy as hell but that’s a different problem). If you have suggestions, shoot them my way!
2)      WOW Look at all these new followers! Where the heck did you all come from? Oh my gosh! When I started, I thought I’d maybe get around 50 or so followers, most of whom would be acafans themselves or adjacent.
3)      I’m having all sorts of “fun” (read: horrible) times with my current analysis on the taxonomy of Big Name Fans. I knew it would be a tricky question to answer when I started (but honestly, why not try to attempt it anyway?) but I didn’t quite anticipate HOW complicated this would be. Haha! I’m actually working with a non-fandom involved coworker on how to do some *insert technical data science talk here* with the data to see if we can’t get a conclusion from the data we have. However, we’ve both come to a very water is wet conclusion; BNFs are not defined solely by the popularity of the work they create. More on that when I finish the post.
Okay, with the announcements out of the way, let’s talk about data collection and fandom analysis, and why Fansplaining’s fandom study has left me feeling a little let down.
So I could have sworn I’d talked about univariate analysis before, but since I can’t find where, I’ll recap it for you here. Univariate analysis is analysis conducted on a single variable. It’s relatively straightforward (and boring) and it usually lends itself to making pie charts and bar graphs. This has been the prevalent trend in fandom analytics for a few years now. Blogs like fandometrics and projects like FandomStats use univariate analysis to reveal information about fandom on the broad scale. Most often, univariate analysis is preformed on what’s called aggregate data.
The process of aggregating data and performing analysis on that aggregation does have it’s uses, but it’s largely the problem with fandom analytics that I started this project to address. Aggregation and univariate analysis can tell us the “WHAT” of the data, but it can’t tell us the “WHY/HOW.” Take, for example, FandomStats queries.
Tumblr media
Above is a query on the “Fluff” tag on AO3. It’s… nice. You can see how authors chose to rate their fluffy works and if you read further down you can even see which fandoms are the “fluffiest” in terms of works. On the surface, there’s nothing wrong with this. It’s a very solid “WHAT” answer to the data. “What are people writing?”
Compare this to my analysis of “Fluff” versus “Angst” tagged works.
Tumblr media
In this post, I used two variables to make a comparison. I tracked an individual work’s hit count compared to it’s uses of either the “Fluff” or “Angst” tag. It’s actually still considered univariate analysis when you do this, but the difference is that it’s performed on non-aggregated data. In this case, you can compare how the tags influence the hit count of a story. It answers a “HOW” question. “How does a work’s tagging effect it’s hit count?”
For an example of multivariate analysis, see also my post on the relationship between the length of a fic and its hit count which attempts to answer “How does the chapter length affect hit count?”
Okay, so what does all this have to do with Fansplaining’s Fandom Study?
As I showed earlier, aggregate data can only be used in univariate analysis. It makes good pie charts and bar charts, but not much else. Aggregate data can tell you “WHAT” something is, but it can’t tell you “HOW” or “WHY” something is. In order to get to the heart of those, you need to know how data points interplay with one another. To do that, you need individual data points. Like an individual work’s metrics or an individual’s responses to a survey.
Which is why I’m slightly annoyed with Fansplaining. Dear Flourish and Elizabeth – you conducted one of the largest surveys of fanfiction reader’s habits with 7,500 individual data points of users ranking their fanfiction reading preferences. I would literally KILL to be able to do that! That is a GOLD MINE of data.
So why the hell did you decide to aggregate it all and only release the aggregated results?
Now I want to be clear that I am not bashing Fansplaining’s study or their thoughtful and well written article explaining their results. They did a decent job even if it is frustratingly banal to someone like me who wants to understand the interplay between data points. It’s especially frustrating that the article itself even asks the kinds of questions that multivariate analysis can answer.
And while mpreg is widely disliked, pregnancy in general is met with a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯—a highly suggestive difference. We’ve got a lot of theories on why, but they’ll need to wait; it deserves a lot more space than we can give it here.
You know what would be a good start to answering this question? Knowing the demographics of your participants. And by demographics, I don’t mean whether they’re male, female, non-binary, black, white, Asian, young, old, etc. (although I would kill to know that stuff too). What I mean is knowing how they answered other questions in the survey. For example, is there a high correlation between people who answered “Yay!” for both mpreg and pregnancy? Did people who enjoy mpreg also tend to enjoy some mpreg-adjacent tropes such as omegaverse? Is pregnancy met with a warmer reception by people who prefer relationships involving a female character (het or F/F for example)? You COULD read any freeform text comments on the survey and attempt to get some answers from that, or you COULD do multivariate analysis. Or, even better, you could use that fancy data science technique called NLP and do both!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There’s also some data I would have killed to analyze on a purely selfish level. As a Domme in the BDSM community, I’m keenly interested in the interplay of power and relationships – who has power, how did they get it, and how do they maintain it? – so when Fansplaining reported that “slavery” was an almost universally reviled trope, I really wanted to know more about the psychology of why that is. Again, multivariate analysis could help us identify the relationship between how people feel about “slavery” tags and how they feel about other tags and tropes. For example, people who hate slavery might feel strongly negative towards fics about racism, which can be an indication that they dislike the implications of chattel slavery or that the trope hits closer to home than they want to deal with when they’re enjoying their leisure time. On the other hand, people who like slavery might come it for much the same reason I do – because it’s an interesting study of how people negotiate power and relationships in an inherently unbalanced system. In that case, they may also enjoy omegaverse, prostitution (wherein the power is in the exchange of sex and money), or even teacher/student fics.
Tumblr media
(I also really want to know what’s going on with centaurification. I’ve been in the BDSM community for 8 years and the online fandom community for 18 years. I thought I had seen it all, and yet I am completely stumped about what centaurification is.)
Alas, I may never have the answers to these questions. In my professional life, I’ve had clients hand me datasets upon datasets of aggregated data and then ask me to use sophisticated machine learning/artificial intelligence to glean insights for them. I’ve always managed not to laugh in their faces even if my eyebrow is developing a bit of a twinge. Instead, I patiently explain to them what I just explained to you guys, my wonderful dear followers. Maybe if I explain it often enough, someone will gift me with raw, unaggregated data of one of these surveys.
A girl can only hope.
(But seriously, I really would commit murder for a copy of the raw survey results.)

We made #1 on tumblr again with 0 new content all thanks to Barb and Maca. I’m honestly shocked still we were number one I thought surely it was because we got new content every day but I think that shows this fandom is actually huge. I want to try not to have expectations and just be thankful but it’s so hard not to have hope after hearing Maca and Barb say they both want to do a spiniff on the day we win their show 14 awards. Winning those awards reminded me what fandom is supposed to be.
I know! I looked it up yesterday and this is literally what I said to a friend
“Wow, STILL #1 in the fandometrics! I really thought we’d fall and was only wondering by how much. It was definitely last night, lol, that kept us there.”
Definitely didn’t think that even one night of award content would keep it up there, like you said, I thought it was the daily content but just goes to show how much interest there is. With respect to the spinoff, I’m the same, trying to keep expectations low, or even frame any outcome as win-win, no spinoff = then no chance of them being ruined, spinoff = more of them.
But I really do get how people just want to hold on to this experience and this feeling of being listened to and acknowledged and making a difference. In so many other fandoms, we are the niche and no matter how important we think we are, we’re always reminded of our place at the end. But here we’re indulged, both in the story and by the cast and crew. It’s such a different feeling and I think we all know that whatever new ship comes along, it won’t be like this.

Carole & Tuesday [Rants/My Opinion/Controversy]
THIS TOOK SO LONG TO WRITE, PLEASE SKIM IT AT LEAST (T.T).
This is very different than what I usually post and I want to begin by saying that I may not have all of the facts! I am basing this on what I’ve seen other people say on this site (and others) and fact checking. I am open to learning and understanding more, and I will read any and all comments (if this post gets any lol). If this changes anything, I am making this post through the lense of a black bisexual female, so my view on things may be different. :)
I try to keep this spoiler free in general, but since I’m going to talk about characters and episodes that have released that’s a little impossible, so I will warn you if there are any spoilers in the section I discuss. I want people who haven’t seen the anime to get a taste of what it is!
In this long post I will touch on the following; LGBT+ representation, POC representation, exposure of the anime(streaming and where to find it), the community/fandom of C&T, Cybelle????!!, and other characters. Remember- this is my opinion and that is always subject to change.
For those of you who don’t know about Carole & Tuesday, it’s a Spring 2019 anime directed by Shinichiro Watanbe in association with the popular Bones studio. Shinichiro is well known for his other successful series such as Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloos and Space Dandy and Bones studio has produced many popular animes like Noragami, Soul Eater and Ouran High School Host Club, etc. [Fun fact, Cowboy Bebop and Carole & Tuesday are said to be set in the same universe and I died when I heard this.]
The plot of Carole & Tuesday, as provided by wiki is:
Set in the future on a partially terraformed Mars, teenager Tuesday Simmons runs away from her posh lifestyle as the daughter of a politician and makes her way to the populous Alba City to pursue her dream of being a musician with just a suitcase and her Gibsonacoustic guitar. On her first day in the city, she crosses paths with Carole Stanley, another aspiring musician who plays the piano, and the two decide to team up as a singer-songwriter duo under the name Carole & Tuesday.
Tumblr media
Where can I find this? Why haven’t I heard of it?
I actually discovered Carole & Tuesday through google since I was looking at new and upcoming animes for the Spring and Summer of 2019. Sadly, the website I used show that Carole & Tuesday was an anime many people weren’t looking forward too- but that was only a handful of votes. Personally, I had been super ecstatic since, just from the promo poster, I assumed Carole and Tuesday would possibly be a couple, there’s a person of color as a main protaganist, and they’re both SUPER CUTE. This all made me happy beyond words.
As of now, Carole & Tuesday should only be available on Japan Netflix. Japanese viewers tend to prefer weekly released episodes whereas Americans prefer to binge shows. I am assuming that once the show has completed airing in Japan (there are going to be 24 episodes) it will appear on other Netflixs around the world.
I believe that’s why the promo for it has been severely lacking and the fanbase appears non-existant. The fandom is there, if you squint (which is why I’m surprised there’s already controversy). The fact that I had to look through a list on an unknown website and scroll to the bottom to find this anime is very showing of how unknown this anime is.
I also saw a post comparing Yuri!!! On Ice to Carole & Tuesday and I personally believe that OP took the wrong approach. I forgot the posters name (I will edit and tag if I find it again) but the post said something along theses lines; YOI is so popular because it’s a mlm show whereas C&T isn’t nearly as popular because it’s a wlw relationship with poc.
While this can prove to be true in the future, there are some major differences that were overlooked. I was into the YOI hype when it was first released but it didn’t truly become popular until Yuri and Viktor were canon and everyone was speculating whether it was a kiss or a hug, etc. Yuri!!! On Ice is also a relationship with a person of color, Yuri, and the anime was also supported by Crunchyroll, a major streaming service for Americans/others. It has had two years to become popular, grow and this is one of the very few animes that had positive lgbt+ representation since the relationship grew just as normally as any other type of relationship. It also wasn’t labeled a yaoi/shounen ai (though this sadly didn’t stop the fetishization of the characters and No.6 did it first but let’s move on-). It felt like a big step in the anime lgbt+ community and it won’t be forgotten!
Carole & Tuesday has just started off! Not much promotion is being shown in other countries outside of Japan and the first episode premiered in early April this year. I believe it’s harsh to compare C&T to such a popular anime when it’s literally just begun. It’s also exclusively on Netflix (besides pirating sites) so there is a little foreseeable loss since it won’t be available on Crunchyroll. But despite that I know there’s hope! Though mlm couples tend to be more popularly viewed, and any pairing that doesn’t have completely white/asian/white-presenting people in the relationship they tend to not garner much interests, but I don’t think C&T will fall into that pit. There’s simply not much promotion of it yet but it still has defied odds and has a fanbase with people from many different countries already!
Though I do see the OP’s point and concerns and they have facts on their side (look at fandometrics popular characters/couples, they’re mostly male) I think it’s too soon to point fingers.
Just imagine how large it’ll get when it has proper streaming (because many people do choose not to pirate in order to directly support the anime and it’s creators!). I think this is where our patience comes into play because if you have seen Carole & Tuesday already, you are most likely not using the most legal means. We are all early to the party.
LGBT+ and POC Representation (spoilers in part of this section, read first line):
I will say this, and this will only be the only spoiler free line, I think it has decent lgbt+ representation and that there’s more to unfold. If you’re going to watch exclusively for lgbt+ representation then I don’t think you will be too disappointed but the anime has a ways to go before it’s finished so my opinion can change.
But the most recent episodes and commentary has caused a ripple in viewers beliefs.
Anne and Marie
I literally adored when Marie kissed Anne whilst Carole and Tuesday sat there blushing. Then, Marie was careful to ask if either of them had a boyfriend or girlfriend not assuming C or T’s sexualities at all. This happened on in an early episode so this left me to believe that more casual representation was on the way!
Cybelle
This was where it began to become uncomfortable for me and a few others. I actually couldn’t figure out whether Cybelle was a female, male or left to be ambiguous intentional (I just concluded she was non-binary until they used she/her pronouns). But many people concluded that since it was clear Cybelle was a female with an infatuation (not a crush, an infatuation) on Tuesday people simply labeled her as lesbian. A few are labeling her interactions with Tuesday and Carole as a harmful and negative commonly used trope when involving wlw characters.
Cybelle was being creepy and aggressive towards Tuesday, constantly touching her abruptly and without consent and going as far as biting Tuesday’s neck and leaving a mark. Actions like these feed into the trope that is commonly used in anime/television shows and it actually demeans real lesbian couples. It’s like a scapegoat; saying ‘here’s your rep’ but it’s very, very, very bad rep.
The controversy comes in since there are people defending Cybelle’s actions because she’s a girl, and people are literally calling others ‘homophobic’ because they choose not to ship Cybelle and Tuesday despite their ‘canon interactions’ but they still want Carole and Tuesday to become a couple.
My personal stance is that none of Cybelle’s actions were consensual and I will never want her and Tuesday to become a couple. I think the creators fed into a bad trope (I’m not sure if intentionally or not), and the real only development we got from this was Tuesday learning to stick up for herself. I also think that Cybelle is simply a crazed fan who is not in a sound mental state and that her gender may not necessarily play into this; maybe she was meant to just be an aggressive fan that overstepped boundaries and made people uncomfortable and just happened to be female. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be representation and should not be labeled as such.
But these are just thoughts!
Mermaid Sisters - Galatic Mermaid
I was personally pleased that the Mermaid Sisters blatantly said they weren’t male or female, just like mermaids aren’t fish or human. Non-binary representation is my fucking jam!
But there are worries that this group was used as a comedic affect due to the way the characters were dressed and how they presented themselves, and the fact that they were POC who were interrupted, immediately lost and were shown to be aggressive directly after.
When I first viewed this I was more focused on the fact that they were non-binary, had amazing voices and had sang a song that was clearly not the most appropriate for Mars Brightest. Now I understand that how there were presented can be damaging and as a person of color, I am disappointed but I’m still conflicted. This scene caused people to ‘cancel’ the show and they’re trying to discourage others to not view it but I want to watch until the very end.
Overall I am super happy with the POC representation in the show! Especially since various races and skin tones are show quite frequently.
Dahlia
The same can be said about Dahlia. People feared the a negative trope of transgender females was being displayed though it’s stated that Dahlia is currently male but their sex varies from time to time, on the official website!
The Community/Fandom
Honestly besides the few odd balls who stir the pot and clearly use harsh words when not needed, the fandom is chill. The artworks are sooo cute and a little scarce but you can find Carole and Tuesday content here, on twitter, on YouTube, Deviantart- literally where you would find any other fanbase! Most people are friendly and (NEED) are willing to talk with you! If you’re still hesitant to watch just message someone who constantly tags Carole & Tuesday because I assure, they’re dying to rant to someone about what goes on lol.
Here’s my last little tid bit on whether or not to watch!
You should watch this show because you want to. Don’t do it because someone else keeps saying you have to because it has representation, or because they think Pyotr is hot or whatever. Of course I am the biggest hoe for Carole & Tuesday and if someone wants a new anime to watch I will suggest this one!! But!! Watching a show just because you feel you have to and you have no genuine interests will dull the experience! You should watch and support the show if it makes you laugh, feel love and genuine enjoyment. That’s the point of anime and that is definitely the point of Carole & Tuesday.
I have already seen so many people drop the show because they were forced into it and promised things that weren’t delivered (it’s still early on) and then they bad mouth the anime. If you want to start watching when there’s more hype and a fandom, then wait!! If you’re unsure and want more convincing, message me!! If this doesn’t seem like this anime suits your tastes and, then why did you read this far (kidding)?!!! Regardless, I just want everyone to have a good experience when watching so we can have more good vibes all around.
I would definitely give this anime a shot if you love music, beautiful voices, dancing, poc/lgbt+ rep, suspense and just amazing animation all around, though! It’s has a baby fandom but it’s surely going to grow and I can’t wait to see the outcome of the anime and what becomes of our lovely Carole and Tuesday! <3
I’m also in love with Roddy, just look at him~ | I’m still not super fond of Angela but I am wishing her the best to achieve happiness in the end!

why symbrock is the ship 2018 deserves
There were a couple of articles last week about Symbrock being the most-discussed ship on Tumblr, according to the site’s own Fandometrics analysis. And like...if you’ve been around here lately that shouldn’t come as any surprise. But none of the articles I’ve seen tried to take a real stab at talking about why the ship is popular.
Tumblr media
(source)
Like...clearly a whole lot of us want to fuck the monster. That has been well-established. And all the psychosexual stuff behind that has been discussed elsewhere (particularly well, imo, in Gavia Baker-Whitelaw’s Daily Dot article). And creature-fuckability is more than enough good reason to like a pairing. But I think there are some other dimensions to this ship that make it appealing beyond the obvious teratophilic bits.
Let’s start with the fact that disaster human Eddie Brock is a painfully relatable character for huge swaths of millennial (and Gen X and Z) adults living in the year 2018. He’s not just an unemployed schmuck who needs to get his life together. He’s a walking avatar of the unforgiving nature of life under neoliberal capitalism. He makes one dumb mistake and his entire life is catastrophically ruined, sent into a depressing death spiral from which escape seems impossible, through a combination of his own bad behavior patterns and an enthusiastic fuck-you from a billionaire who felt like pissing on him that day. He’s humiliating himself calling old contacts for the tenth time begging for freelance work, while the guy who screwed him over is building rockets with pocket change and basking in praise like some techbro demigod. He lives in a shitty apartment, his fridge contains three beers, some Chinese takeout and bulk frozen tater tots, and he should’ve taken out the trash with that chicken carcass in it days ago but hasn’t, even though it’s not like he’s been working or anything. Boy howdy do I feel ya, my dude.
(Continued under the cut, because long post)
Tumblr media
So we have this guy, about whose life we’re already like BIG MOOD. And then we have this pile of alien murder goo who not only sees Eddie at his worst, but meets him at his worst, and is like THAT ONE. THAT ONE IS MINE. I AM GOING TO BETRAY MY ENTIRE SPECIES AND RISK MY LIFE FOR THIS SWEATY DUMPSTER FIRE IN A HOODIE.
And I think there’s something intensely, deeply appealing about that, the idea that someone could value you even when you don’t value yourself--even when you don’t quite understand what there is to value about you at all.
Tumblr media
(source)
It’s striking to me that for every ooey gooey tentacle porn fanart (and there is plenty of that) there are just as many fanworks of Eddie and Venom cuddling or doing mundane domestic things together. I think it speaks to the profound loneliness and alienation of the world we live in, that the idea of a companion who’s always with you because it is literally inside you seems not only not-gross but genuinely appealing to a wide swath of people.
Tumblr media
(source)
I mean, if you’re going for intimacy, it doesn’t get much more up close and personal than having a relationship with something that’s in your body, that can manipulate it and move it around, but also heal and comfort it, that can read your thoughts and desires and fantasies without the awkwardness of having to verbalize them.
And then there’s the more familiar attraction of having a strong partner, something that’s violent and frightening to others but fiercely protective of you, that’s possessive and intensely focused on you in a way that would probably be a huge red flag in real life but can be appealing in a fantasy, and that can cut straight through the injustices of the world by chomping a few heads. In a world where there are a million things to make you feel scared and powerless, those qualities become very attractive.
And hey, it’s 2018. Look at this fucking timeline we’re in. Being in a non-traditional relationship with a goo monster that materializes out of your body now and then just doesn’t seem that weird anymore.
Hell, it beats Tinder.

Defenders of Tomorrow thoughts or something??
Can I just say, that a few days ago, I was so terrified of the Voltron fandom and how toxic it became, and now, not even a day later, I have never been more proud of being apart of this fandom??? Honestly, I understand why some people are concerned and hate about this whole “Defenders of Tomorrow” reboot that’s being created and think its the stupidest and most disrespectful reaction we could’ve had to season 7, but I strongly believe that the VLD crew should not be more proud of what we’ve done! Just a few days ago, this fandom was the most toxic it has ever been! People were fighting about what happened to Adam, sending death threats because Klance didn’t become canon, the fandom was in chaos! And now we have come together, and created something amazing as “Defenders of Tomorrow”! We collectively know about the hard battle that the VLD crew gave Dreamworks to give us as much LGBT+ representation as they could, and they only got to do the bare minimum. (Although, there is still one season left. Who knows what’s gonna happen?) “Defenders of Tomorrow” is an honor to those efforts, and it’s an honor to the original show! Since Dreamworks didn’t give the VLD crew the greenlight to give us the LGBT+ rep that we all wanted, we said “You know what? Fuck it. We’re doing this ourselves.” And look what happened in less than 24 hours. We have brought Leakira to #1 on fandometrics!!! The fandom ship discourse dropped so quickly because we have this new AU to be excited about, and we have come together to do what the VLD weren’t allowed to do. If Klance can’t become canon, then we’re gonna have our own Klance, and we’re gonna make. It. Canon. Imagine being the creators of one of the most toxic fandoms of its time, and in less than a day, causing this huge wave of inspiration by more than half of the fandom.
People are taking this way. too. seriously. We aren’t actually gonna get a huge animation studio to back this and actually make a reboot of the show to shove it in the VLD crew’s face??!! Like, at best, this’ll be webcomic or something. This is no different than any other of the AUs that were created, in fact, this is still very tightly linked to the original show! “Defenders of Tomorrow” is just an alternate reality to the original universe! And we all know that alternate realities have been discussed in the original show. Just look at Sven: same face as Shiro, but different hair and accent. That is basically what we’re doing with DoT. So all the people talking about how “thIs iS AlL Out oF spItE Of wHAt HaPPenEd iN sEasON 7!!1!!1!” or “yOU CAn’t dO ThaT tHEre’S cOpyRIghT LAwS!11!1!!” or whatever need to calm down. This is not going to be a real reboot, this is really just a coping mechanism for all the fans who aren’t ready to let go of Voltron yet. The show is coming to an end, and some of us aren’t gonna know what to do when it does! I don’t have a set list of what to invest my time in after Voltron ends, and DoT is a perfect way to sit back and think, “the show may be coming to an end, but the fandom is still going strong. I have time to figure out how to move on.” So everyone who’s bullying everyone excited about DoT, need to sit down and leave us alone. Sure, there are gonna be some toxic people out there who are gonna shove it in the VLD crew’s faces, but the majority of us are just here to have a good time, and to take our minds off of the fact that the show that has owed our asses for 2 years, is coming to an end.
The majority of the fandom is proud of what the VLD crew has done for us and the good fight they put up to give us as much representation as possible, and we love the product they put out this season regardless of ships or whatever. “Defenders of Tomorrow” is a way of saying thank you to the VLD cast and crew for giving us an amazing plot, universe and most of all, characters, that we all love. Voltron has caused so much inspiration in so many people, and I know that’s a wonderful feeling to have. That even though the VLD crew didn’t exactly get to do what they wanted, they are still loved and appreciated and they inspire so many people to create. That’s the goal of any artist.
Every since I started watching Voltron, I have been incredibly inspired to write my own original show, and after every season, a new wave of motivation and inspiration comes to me and I start writing again. I may never actually pitch it cause of that good, ol’fashioned anxiety, but I love writing and creating things in my mind and I wouldn’t have even started writing if it wasn’t for Voltron!
And I for one am proud of the Klance fandom, who rose above the disappointment, and above the toxic people and the antis, and came together to bond over Defenders of the Universe. It’s just like the Dirty Laundry days! And I know that we all missed the Dirty Laundry days.
So Klancers excited about “Defenders of Tomorrow”, keep doing what you’re doing! Ignore the haters, and the people who can’t possibly understand what this means to us personally The VLD crew would be proud of what we were able to do in less than 24 hours.
Little message to the VLD crew from me: THANK YOU THE VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER CAST AND CREW FOR BEING SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO SO MANY PEOPLE, AND IMPACTING SO MANY LIVES WITH THE AMAZING CONTENT THAT YOU PUT OUT. DON’T LISTEN TO THE HATEFUL MINORITY OF THE FANBASE. WE LOVE AND APPRECIATE WHAT YOU’VE DONE AND TRIED TO DO FOR US! AND OF COURSE, WE’RE STILL EXCITED FOR SEASON 8!! THIS IS THE KLANCE THANK YOU!!
Please, no hate on my blog. This is the honest truth from my point of view. I don’t want to cause trouble, but I felt like I had to say this. No intentional disrespect to anyone, but someone had to say it. There is always a problem in the fandom, whether its DoT, or Adashi, or the plot or something not even mildly relevant. And I don’t want to see the show and the community I have come to absolutely love be messed up by hateful people or antis again. If you don’t like Defenders of Tomorrow or Leakira, stay out of it entirely. Block the tags or something, but don’t ruin it for the rest of us, and make us feel guilty for being excited about DoT, when all this is is harmless fun. Thank you.

To be honest as massive as the Voltron fandom is I feel like it's gonna slightly fade into obscurity but it'll truly never die. Klance has been #1 on fandometrics repeatedly and you know how much klance content we get? Barely any. But we're still there. It's gonna be like Supernatural, or Doctor Who, or Harry Potter. Not as big as those, but it'll always be there...just there. Never dead
u know what…. yeah…… yeah ur right…….. it mostly depends on where theyre gnna go with the show but yah…….

Fandometrics in Depth: Halloween
It’s your favorite time of the year again, you unearthly goblins. Halloween is the No. 1 holiday on Tumblr.  On this, the second spookiest day of the year, we’re bringing you some Halloween data highlights for your creepy ghoulish souls to fawn over.
Tumblr media
Halloween 2017
In 2017, Halloween began trending upwards as early as June. With 59% more engagements per day than all of March, April, and May put together, it marked the first time #halloween trended in the app this year.
It was a overflowing, bubbling cauldron of #halloween tag surge from there. July’s average growth was 76% over June and August had 160% growth over July. It slowed a little in September, with only 90% growth over August.
To little shock (and horror), the largest daily growth was between September 30th and October 1st (also known as the First of Halloween), with a 237% increase in overall engagement. Holy skeleton, that really is a lot.
Tumblr media
Let’s get spooky
There are dozens of blogs that provide spookiness year round. Here are just a few we suggest:
@marylandparanormal is the spine-chilling, informative archive of the Maryland Paranormal Research team.
@buzzfeedunsolved. Hey there demons, ya boys are now on Tumblr.
@kittenwitchandthebadvibes, the perfect balance of spooky and self-care. It’s full of wonderfully witchy gifs that remind you it’s okay to take a break sometimes.
For those who want to delve a little more seriously into Tumblr witch culture—a year-round celebration of positivity and wonder—there’s always #witchblr. #Crystals, #tarot, and #emoji spells are great places to start.
Stay spooky, Tumblr...or else.

Interesting rediscoveries
Hoping this can fix a LOT of misconceptions, break old broken rhetoric that’s used to discredit this wonderful old study, and maybe give some faith back between broken wings of fandom.
I was doing a but of deep diving for my old charts and graphics and sources, to visibly reconfigure things that are about two computers ago when I first found them. I mentioned showing people how my demographics were found before I stress tested and fine tuned them for my ratings reports. One of my (several collaborative) sources was the tumblr fandometric (for the record, I use 7 sources, but that's offtopic right now). I decided to see if there were any I forgot about that might help fill in the blanks for other people and found a funny "inconsistency" which is actually a huge point prover.
A frequent protest I've heard is that "it's just a high number of Castiel fans that answered!" and while... yes, yes that's true to some extent, it's also not entirely true.
One of the divisional brackets was "Cas fan" or "Sam&Dean ONLY," now given, knowing the state of the fandom, some people may very well qualify as neither and there was no "I LOVE THEM ALL" option. Of course, we could just speculate that's what it is, but let's have some fun here.
By "Cas fan" or "S&D only fan" brackets,
Tumblr media
We see SD exclusive Dean at 54%, Sam at 46%, and Cas at 100%; clearly S&D fans had to divide their demo. However, this illustrates both demos stayed in their lanes during this poll.
...Only those who IDENTIFIED. But in theory, since this was a “Cas heavy” demographic, that answer should be staggeringly overshadowing. (I’ll post the sums on answers later for another point.)
Let's look at the actual main result, 28.57% share should be left between Sam and Dean in comparison to whatever overshadow Cas would put in, theoretically.
But we don't get that.
Tumblr media
But what else are these numbers telling us? Well, if we were working on the "roughly 3.5 times as many Cas fans" theory (based on other tilted responses on other charts and common naysaying 0 here’s one where we know ALL answered Cas stan responses are one bin), dividing up Sam and Dean's red/blue poll vs the Castiel 100% gives us 13.14 for Sam, and 15.43 for Dean, which should have left us with 71.43 for Cas. But he got less than half that. So something's up. Let's do easy math and gouge the others in half, down, to match. 6, 7, 33.
But that isn't what we get at all.
This is the GENERAL, TEAM FREE WILL, SHOW LOVING AUDIENCE AT WORK FOLKS.
This poll is actually a walking manifestation that for every person that identifies as an X or Y fan, there's at least three more that don't identify a preference, identify TFW, or general audience, even in social media. But most certainly do NOT identify as “S&D ONLY”
Because I'm gonna give you the truth of how the respondents actually answered.
Yes, it was very Cas heavy. Here you go.
Tumblr media
About nine times as many people identified as Cas fans than ONLY Sam and Dean.
3,298 Cas fans responded to the "emotional investment" poll. Out of 10,000. 420 people identified as Sam and Dean only. Out of 10,000 respondents. We know for a FACT that 3,298 Cas stans chose Cas. We know for a FACT 193 chose Sam and 227 chose Dean. Those numbers should be Sam showing at 1/17th of Cas' result, and Dean showing at 1/14th of Cas' result. But he's not. It's not. We get 67% Sam and Dean sum with 33% Castiel. Similarly, on Dean-and-Sam voters, there was only an 8% divide, but on the final chart manifestation, Dean holds 33% more popularity than Sam. In fact, quite interestingly, Sam and Cas' sums amount to Dean's equally, which is a point I've always made: Dean is the hub of the characters and gains attention from both lanes. That last part is subjective observation, mind you, but quite funny to see pan out in numbers like this.
That leaves 6286 unidentified floaters. That leaves nearly twice-over the Cas fan bulk. Why were Cas' results half of what they "should" have been? Because of this. Dean needs 5,000 respondents for that number to make the mark, we know where 227 came from. Sam needs 1700. We know where 193 came from. 6280 votes were unaffiliated. Cas fans readily identified, but NOT all Sam and Dean fans identified Bro-Only. In fact, less than 7% of fans count as Bro-Only. And a few may not have knowingly identified TBH.
As for the frequency of Cas exclusive answering, I’ma take it as “cornered fox syndrome” since you’ve let that Bro-Only bracket trumpet at you for so long. Look, bruh, you really don’t need to.
And sorry, my fellow Sam fans, but unfortunately Sam still isn't doing that hot with GA. As observed in my other work abroad, Castiel has an incredibly loyal base (as per the 72-74K viewer-plus average), so I don't think there's particular need to assume GA slammed him entirely and this metric makes perfect sense with all trends we're seeing. General, TFW audience is incredibly Dean-Winchester-Centric, or the ITTY BITTY DIVIDE of the brothers wouldn't have turned into a thrice-over massacre. Even still, only 13.3% of Sam dedicants in that result were Bro-Only too. SOME OF THEM ARE LIKE ME: SANE. 4.5% of Dean were bro-only, or 1/3 the frequency of Sam per capita.
Sam is not pulling the general audience. This fandometric is from S10. Sam hasn't been pulling the general audience for years. There's a dedicated forum of about 200 high-rung Sam stans, a WATERFALL of Dean stans that don't necessarily identify with "Bro Only" or "J2", a strong base of Cas fans and a smatter of TFW/GA across it all.
And there you have it.
Cas fan turn out was high, yes, but general audience turnout was highest, two-fold the Cas stans.
Which makes this a very interesting infographic to finish with. GA/TFW fans minded,
Tumblr media
I could go on about that chart’s ramifications for days but it deserves its own rant at some point. That wasn’t the point of this rant as much as detailing the umpteenth reason the naysayers are wrong about ... well, everything TBH. As if my weekly projections didn’t say enough.

I don’t understand why you are surprised that Harry is the most famous. I thought we all knew that. He has always been. Just look at that clip from celebrity big brother and those people didn’t know louis name and they are in the industry. They taked about Harry and Zayn the most. So I don’t get why people are surprised that he isn’t the most talked about on tumblr.
I can’t speak for anyone else, to begin with, but I don’t think anyone ever said they were surprised Louis isn’t the most talked about on Tumblr. What I said was that I, personally, was surprised that Harry is a fixture as number 1 on Tumblr fandometrics. I mean, believe me, I am very much aware of the difference in name recognition between Harry—even more so after Dunkirk—and Zayn and OT3. Though I think Niall is well on his way to catching up; and Liam’s label and management have been giving him opportunities to increase his visibility and gain fans—look at him going to fashion shows, and the extent and originality of his music promo. Louis doesn’t have any of that. His brand has never been cultivated. From 1D days he’s been subjected to belittlement, erasure, and character assassination. And nothing has been done to raise his profile or elevate his brand since he went solo. In fact the opposite, really. Just a single example: he is the only one who hasn’t been a sit down guest at a talk show. Minimal, subpar, to literally no promo, visibility limited to tabloids and negative press. Add to that issues within the fandom, as well—which are related to all this, by the way—and how can it be any different? If anyone had any doubts about his standing in the industry, to me the Ash London debacle was very telling, unfortunately.
Having said all that, I was still surprised at Harry’s numbers. And to the harries apparently making fun of this and how Louis has less fans, maybe they should give some thought as to why, given their seemingly enviable situation, they feel the need to tear others down to enjoy themselves and Harry’s purported success. And also give some thought as to the context of all of this, as mentioned above. But then, I don’t suppose self reflection is one of their strong points. So, let them do as they wish. I’ll be here supporting my fave Louis however I can, which is why I’m here.

Hey want to hear something funny? Remember those fandometrics how OUAT used to always dominate the categories and always be high on the list. Now it's only in one category, TV Shows and it's ranked 24/30. Last year it was ranked number 8. If that's not a clear sign how panned the reboot is by the fandom IDK what is.
Ah! Predictable.
OUAT was in that categories for 2 reasons:
1. CS used to bot like crazy. Everyone of them used to reblog their CS gifsets several times a day to get bigger numbers and prove their ship was popular. See the result now? This year’s are the real ouat numbers without bots.
2. Shippers actually created liked and reblogged posts about their ships. All of them: Swan Queen, CS, OQ fans, we all did it cause we had SCREENTIME and stuff to post and discuss. Now there’s nothing and the possible ships this show’s trying to create don’t have the same number of fans and attention the original ships had.

That fandometrics list is amazing! The other top couples all currently have shows airing now and gets lots of scenes for their ships, and sterek seriously jumped to top 5 with 2 tiny shots from a trailer. When was the last time another teen wolf ship was even on that list?? I just love how sterek is what everyone remembers always. I truly love the sterek fandom so much ❤️
Yes!! Exactly! I did see at least one ship there that isn’t part of a show still on air, but it’s hp which is huge as we know. Sterek should’ve been a small fish in a big pond by all accounts, but when stereks get together WE OWN IT. If we were actually part of the tw fandom, if we hadn’t been forced to leave the sterek tag because of hate, we would be part of those lists all the time, I honestly believe this.

Taha, do you think there's a way for us Harries to organize promo for H? We won fandometrics, Harry had the biggest presence in a very large social media website (here lol), can't we use that to push a little bit harder for him? We need to do playlists to encourage streaming, we need to compile how many spotify playlists Kiwi is in and play from there so it doesn't lose its spot/gains new, we need to spend 20 minutes every day requesting on radio, we can help so much! And H deffo deserves it!
Yes love we've definitely been successful in things that we all committed ourselves to, and if you're asking whether it's possible, then yes it is. The thing is Harries who care about this are already doing all they can to help! There's requesting parties, daily updates on polls etc, but those who just don't participate in this stuff.....we can't ever get them around to do it. So it's gonna be the same number of people always doing this, so sadly I don't think there's much we can change right now regarding promo. Those of us who wanna do this, should keep going and do all that's possible to help Harry as fans, and just do what's in our control. Something's always better than nothing! and in the end Harry will always have a plan to save the day anyway.
