I've gotta say, I find the concept of Bedlund trying to Ben-Hur Jensen absolutely hysterical. I'm just imagining Jensen getting a script and being like "Ben?? What's this? Is this gay? This seems gay????" and Ben just soothing him like a frightened horse.
Hahaha - Look it wouldn't be the first time. What is this verb we're working with? Okay. Strap in everyone. The Multi-Oscar-winning 1959 movie 'Ben Hur' had a bunch of gay subtext. The writer, the director, and the second lead actor all knew that Charlton Heston's character, Ben Hur, was gay. However, one person didn't find out until the 1990s: Charlton Heston. The consensus on set was "Don’t tell Charlton, because he’ll freak out." and when Heston found out in the ninties, freak out was exactly what he did. (x) [the movie may have gotten a reference from Misha back in season 6 (x)]
Whether this happened with Jensen on SPN depends on two things.
Was the character of Dean intentionally written as Bi and, if so, at what point did that become true?
Did anyone tell Jensen? Did he figure it out? if so, when?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I personally DO believe at this point, I really do, that Bedlund - Ben Hur'd Jensen. I think it was part of the writers room but not all of it, until it was. (Which RN I believe finally happened under Dabb.) I think Jensen wasn't in on it, until he was. So for me? I think he really was in the dark at one point. But at what point that changed? Probably only he can answer that question. and RN? He ain't talking.
In the meantime we can only look at things Jensen has said on the subject - Like this unbearably ambiguous GIF set from @nikadd. Was this tongue in cheek? Legitimate ignorance? You're killing me, Jensen. That cheeky lil smile, Jensen. Nvm - I'm going to kill you instead. It's for my own survival. No hard feelings right? You understand.
UH OH HERE COMES A CUT TO HIDE A LONG DERANGED POST...
We can look at the text for number 1 - and I do that uh - a lot - see the blog name #Dean Was Always Bi
For number 2 we can look over some points when we got clues from what Jensen thought was going on [regardless of whether they make sense based on his jacting or directorial choices I guess] and get left wondering whether at any point he felt pressured to lie for his career, for self protection, or to protect the narrative from the network:
2010 - 'We're missing the gay angel' (x) (Season 5 gag reel) (x) “Sorry man, not what the show’s about.” Jared: One of the good and bads about playing the straight [non-comedic] character on the show… Jensen: What wait? I’ve been playing him so wrong
2012 / S8 - Trenchcoat - Jensen talking about how sometimes they change the lines because they're way too gay. Calls Cas a third brother
2012 - "What's Destiel?" Ben Edlund: That’s some weird shit. Jensen: Is this something that you created, Ben? Ben: You don’t want any part of that.
“Don’t ruin it for everyone now” “I still don’t know what the question was. I’m going to pretend I don’t know what the question was.”
2013 @ JIB, re Dean’s reaction to Aaron’s flirting in the season 8 episode Everybody Hates Hitler,  (x)
“And the scene wasn’t written to be that kind of - I mean - It was written to be awkward.  Ben Edlund wrote the - my favorite line in that scene was ‘carry on . citizen’ that was - I almost couldn’t say that with a straight face I was laughing so hard.  But it was - you know - it was comedy. It was a comedic moment in the show and fortunately Dean gets a lot of the comedic moments in the show and it was just, you know, Ben was poking fun at the fact that - you know, how can we make this very kind of manly, heterosexual guy uncomfortable - uh -you know, or  or have him back on his heels and throw him off his game a little bit.”
The thing is - Bedlund and Phil Sgriccia made very clear on the commentary track that THEY saw this scene as a 'romantic comedy kind of fluster' "This potential for love in all places."
Ben Edlund calling the writer’s room a boy’s club in 2013 (x)
Misha Collins telling Destiel fans they aren’t Crazy in 2013 after some executives said they were (x).
2014 Jensen says he was glad there wasn’t much Dean and Cas in season 9  - HA Hah HAH (x)
“I think the whole Cas and Dean thing has gotten out of hand”  “I don’t think there’s anything secret to their relationship even though a lot of people wish there was” REMINDER - that season we got the nightstands acknowledgement and “play him like a jilted lover” and the “he dumped me James” cut and -
I certainly know that Misha and I don’t play that. SIGH. they Ben Hur'd Jensen.
2014 - the fan fiction joke - 10.05
“I didn’t have a positive reaction, The first time in I think 200 scripts I went and sat down in the showrunners office and said, ‘What in god’s name are you doing?! Why? I need to understand why this is happening.’” “[Carver] gave very eloquent answers and did a great job of explaining why we were doing what we were doing, I guess I had been aware of this ‘fan fiction’ for a while and I felt like maybe if I ignored it, it would eventually go away. When I read it in the script that is what I do for a living and is my work—I’m very protective of these characters and the story and I think we have a right to be—I wasn’t angry. I just wanted to understand why and what was the message we were ultimately sending with this script and story. By the end of it, I felt good and it gave me all the confidence I needed. It was better than I could have ever hoped.”
But then there's Jensen in 2015 talking about all of Dean’s bromances. (x)  [gifs at the top] Could go either way - starting to figure it out? or No?
What had changed if anything? the entire Crowely season 10 story line?  This was July 2015 - the same day as the SDCC 2015 panel where Misha talked about Destiel   (x @ 13) Carver and Dabb were there -
By this time Jensen and Misha were nominated for a teen choice award for best chemistry against various tv couples (and one ensemble cast, but the award nomination did NOT include Jared) .... Misha and Jensen would go on to WIN this award one month after the panel.
At the Panel Rob and Rich ask the question: “You two have branded yourselves as TV’s greatest team since, ... idk who.... Ernie and Bert so.”  [Misha says to Jensen & Jared, half not on the microphone: “I really didn’t expect them to throw us under the bus.”] “are we going to see that continue? Is the Castiel Dean relationship still aflutter and still growing as we move into season 11?”  Jeremy Carver: “Ish.” [mocking from panel ensues] “Yes. Of course. I mean Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. There’s no doubt.”
Jensen Directs 11x03 and the choreo mimics Goodbye stranger (x)
2016 - Jensen: Dean could have a huntress, but you’d kill her.
Jan 2017 Con the infamous - no hedge - harsh - “Destiel doesn’t exist.” (x)
I would hope that if he knew he wouldn’t have been so harsh with it.  So by that point either he still didn’t know - OR - to him ‘Destiel’ was specifically about internet porn/sex and not like - the potential for feelings / a relationship.  It makes me think about something Misha had actually said, around 2013, “It’s called ‘Destiel’ and it’s about the romantic interludes between Dean and Castiel.” (x)
2017 - jib8 Jensen called Dean a lover of the ladies
May 2017 - After filming the end of season 12:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2018 - Misha confirms he and Jensen have talked about Destiel (x) - also 2018: The Bisexual Dean essay "? No." (Oh god was this really this recent?! I can't deal with this.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well. SOMETHING happened in 2019. cuz here it comes
Tumblr media
2019 - "Dean has no taste, clearly." 2019 - 'So, tell us just a little bit about what you're most excited to tackle with your character this final season.' "Cas. Just like a full football form tackle."
Look at this face he gave Dean when Cas told him he loved him and tell me he wasn't playing into it here. You can't. (x)

"Hi I'm Yn Collins and this is my Wired autocomplete interview" I say smiling and I get thrown a card and I hold it up.
"Is Yn Collins" I say pausing.
"Dumb?" I say laughing and I pull the first one back.
"Is Yn Collins going to comic con" I read and I look up.
"Actually yes I am you can catch me there everyday, I'll be at the Supernatural panel when I'm not at my own so if you weren't able to meet me at mine you might be lucky and meet me at my husbands" I say looking back at the board.
"Is Yn Collins" I read pulling it back "adopted" I say looking up and I nod.
"I get this a lot so I'll explain here so people can continue to ask later down the road" I say laughing
"So my parents split up when I was 4 and my dad remarried my stepmom and she adopted me like made me legally hers and then my dad divorced her and went to jail so then I stayed with her and she remarried and she's legally my mom because she adopted me and her husband who I consider my only father is her husband" I say laughing explaining it the best I can.
"Is Yn Collins a" I say and I pull it back "a Ys" I read.

"Who are Yn Collins siblings" I read. "I know you guys only googled this to see if Lily Collins would pop up which she didn't, we played adopted siblings in a movie and because of our chemistry and names everyone assumed we were actually siblings. But to answer this question I'm the oldest of four who's last names aren't Collins because that's my husbands last name" I say laughing, pulling the last one.
"Was Yn Collins" I read pulling it back "on glee" I read laughing.
"I also get this question often. That was my little sister Sn, we look super similar so at one point everyone struggled to tell us apart but yes she was the one on glee not me" I say.
"Does Yn Collins sing" I read "yes all the time. Who doesn't sing" I say laughing.
"Honestly at this point in my life I never stop singing" I say looking up at the camera.
"Misha tells me to shut up all time, I'm a nervous singer so when I'm anxious or nervous I hum, sing all of that" I say laughing.
"Did Yn Collins and Chris Evans date" I read "no, we just hang out like a lot. We've been making movies together since I was like 14 so he's just my best friend" I say laughing playing with the last cover.
"Did Yn Collins get married" I read laughing. "Yes that's why I'm called Collins" I answer. "Is this actually a question people google enough for it to pop up?" I ask shaking my head. "But yes I did my husband is Misha Collins. He's this really hot guy who plays an angel named Castiel on supernatural" I say pointing to the camera.
I throw the card and I catch the one that gets thrown to me and the first one has my avengers character name on it and I laugh. "Who is Audrey Patterson aka volt" I read "Aubrey Patterson is a woman who grew up in the south until she got her powers when she was just a wee tween and she was shipped away to live with her grandparents in New York" I say looking at the card.
"Is Aubrey Patterson and Sam Wilson friends in real life" I read "Mackie is my guy, when I first came onto the Captain America scene he was the first person who I hadn't met before to welcome me with opened arms" I say.
"Is Aubrey Patterson" I read and when I pull the tab back it pulls off the words "I guess we'll never know" I say laughing.
"Is Aubrey Patterson the youngest in the Captain America movies" I read "yes I am" I say laughing and I toss the board to the side.
"I'm almost done and I'm sad, I never want this to end I want to answer google questions all day" I say grabbing the board "can Yn Collins speak any other languages" I read.
"Three and a half" I say.
"Can you say something in all of the languages you know?"
"Yeah of course" I say nodding.
"Bonjour je suis avec câblé aujourd'hui" I say.
"Ik zal je vragen beantwoorden" I say raising a brow trying to see if I said that right.
"Don't come after me Dutch fans I'm sorry I'm still learning it's the half language I know" I say.
"Ich bin buchstäblich ein offenes Buch" I say smiling at the camera.
"Začnime" I say.
"What did you just say?" He asks.
"I said hello I'm with wired today and I will answer all of your questions, I'm an open book so let's begin" I say holding the bird back up.
"Is Yn Collins one of the best actresses of our generation" I read "literally I don't even know if I can properly answer that because naturally I'm going to say no because I work with a lot of amazing women so no" I say moving on.
"Who does Yn Collins look like?" I read "hmm, my sister like I said, my ten year old but she looks more like Misha than she looks like me but that counts. But definitely my eight year old son, he looks dead on me and my twins" I say smiling at the camera.
"What are Yn and Misha Collins" I read pulling it back. "kids names" I say.
"My oldest is Elodie, my second oldest is named after his dad so Dmitri, then the twins Maren and Mavis and then my youngest Farren" I say smiling at the camera because any time I can talk about my kids I'm in heaven.
"Is Yn Collins an alumna" I read "yes I am, I graduated from New York school of arts" I say.
"How tall is Yn Collins" I read "good question" I say laughing "I want to say about Y/H, in that area, just about" I say looking at the next one.
"How did Yn meet Misha" I read "aww" I say smiling "I love talking it about this a lot more than I actually should" I say.
"The year was 2009 and I was at comic con for Avatar" I say.
"He was there for his first comic con ever and we were next door neighbors and I got locked out of my room and my purse and everything were in there and I couldn't get a copy of my room key without my identification so I knocked on his door and the most attractive man I've ever seen opens the door in just a towel and I'm like lost for words at first and then he let's me in and enter through his room and we talked and hung out that whole weekend and 9 months I had Elodie" I say giggling.
"How long have Yn and Misha Collins been married" I read "nine years, we got married after Elodie turned one. Almost ten years" I say smiling at the camera.
"Is Alex Calvert Yn and Misha's kid?" I read laughing.
"How old do you guys think I am?" I ask laughing even harder.
"Also that would make no sense for obvious reasons but to answer your question no Alex is not either of our kid, separate, together, adopted" I say giggling.
"His wife is actually one of Misha and I's best friends, we've known her since she was like 14" I say.
"She actually named their first kid after Misha and he let's that go to his head because he has two people named after him" I say laughing.
"Is Yn Collins closer to Jared or Jensen's wife" I read.
"I'm super close to both and I love them to pieces but I do hang out with Jensen's wife more, we always go to lunch whenever we're together, and we always ride with each other to the airport when Jensen and Misha fly in together so I guess I'll just say her because we hang out more" I say shrugging.
"But like I said I love them both so much and equally" I say.
"Is Yn Collins pregnant" I read and I start laughing "you guys are good. But yes I am, 20 weeks today. We just announced it before I came in today so" I say throwing the card.
"I'm Yn Collins and this has been my Wired autocomplete Interview" I say smiling at the camera and blowing a kiss.

I’ve been reflecting a lot on Cas’ recent confession of love and the responses I’ve been seeing across tumblr and Twitter. As a Destiel fic writer, I am thrilled to see this become canon and as a queer woman, also really touched to see how much Misha has embraced this as a really significant thing. I already ordered my Only Love merch. So I’m content with it all as much as it is. SPN has never made queer representation its issue. SPN *has* responded to its fanbase, who have both pushed the importance of representation and also brought the actors into a realm of growth over queer issues that they may never have come to without this show and this fandom. For that reason, I don’t think it’s helpful to be mad at Jensen or the Showrunners for Destiel not being perfect. You don’t have to celebrate them as allies, but the anger and vitriol just doesn’t help, in my opinion.
BUT...where my thoughts have been going is around what it means to be an actor in a ‘ship and what the impact of the story has on the actors, the fandom, and the constant dance of who controls the story because I think this has been something that even with straight characters has had serious impacts on how fans feel about an ending.
My first fandom, Starsky & Hutch, was mostly written by a gay man who wrote “straight” characters because that was what they had to be in 1974. The characters and show plots were such that the actors felt the love underneath the words and acted accordingly. Back then, it wasn’t so much queer baiting as queer coding. I find it amazing that my parents never thought for a minute Starsky and Hutch were gay, but even as a 7 year old, I knew they were in love and saw them that way. And anyone who watches the show now, it’s so clear that it’s almost laughable. When their show won the Peopel’s Choice award in 1977, David Soul said in his acceptance speech that the best part of being on this show was that people saw two men who “could be anything”. He knew that queer folk read their characters as gay and that straight folks saw them as straight and he was happy for both to be true. While the show never had an explicitly romantic declaration, the characters held hands, hugged, and in the final episode, their final scene is Hutch crawling into Starsky’s hospital bed with him, something done with amusement, but was completely coded to mean something else. It was never “canon”, but the ‘ship has lasted 46 years with new fic being written even now.
In the new SW films, actor Oscar Isaac was not at all quiet about his feelings that his character, Poe Dameron, was in love with Finn. He stated he played him that way (and was not directed otherwise) and he even explicitly asked for that ship to be made canon. He was told no and that is not how the story ended. The romance plot was instead focused on two other characters. Some fans liked that. Many didn’t. In general, though, the story is open-ended enough that shippers could have Stormpilot be their ship and there is nothing that really contradicts that. In that scenario, Oscar had his sense of who this character was and felt strongly about that, but in the end, it wasn’t his story, so the ending was what it was.
Hawai’i Five-0 ended its 10 year run last spring. Actor Scott Caan said in an interview during the show’s 5-year mark that he wanted to see his charcter have a romantic story line with his other lead, Steve McGarrett. And while Scott did not go so far as Oscar Isaac did to say he made his acting choices based on that, watching him and Alex play their characters, there was definitely some intention to show their characters as loving one another. Actor Alex O’Loughlin voiced a few times over the years that he felt his character would not get back together with Catherine, a woman his character was on-again, off-again with, because he felt Steve had reached his limit with what Catherine had done to him. The series made a decision to end with Steve leaving Hawai’i behind and flying away with Catherine. Neither actor has commented much about the show’s ending, but clearly it went against what both actors had publicly expressed in the past. Again, they don’t control the story, but they do understand their characters after playing them for so many years and they are invested in that. In that sense, the actor’s subsequent silence about how the show ended says quite a bit. And McDanno fans were very unsatisfied with the show’s ending, myself included.
So we come to Destiel. Over the years, this ship has been very controversial in part because one actor (Misha) has clearly been OK with his character being perceived as being in love with Dean, while the other actor (Jensen) has not. At times he has been very negative about it, and that has been taken by some fans to imply how Jensen feels about homosexuality in general. I’m not convinced it does, but I understand why people feel that way. Over the 12 years since Cas’ introduction on the show, there clearly has been a shift from the writers and showrunners avoiding the topic entirely, to talking about it, and now to having Cas confess his feelings of love to Dean in canon. In the days since, Misha has been unequivocal in saying Cas is romantically in love with Dean and that he has played him that way, at least for this season and likely longer. Misha is proud that he was able to advocate for Cas to be gay and he clearly understands why it is important for the show to have made this choice. For Jensen’s part, however, he has stated he has not played Dean that way and from video clips of him talking about the show’s ending, it appears that he needed some convincing to accept this as the story. To his credit though, once he was convinced that this was something show creator (Eric Kripke) could envision as part of Dean’s character arc, he was on-board with this ending and feels statisfied with it. And I think some of the frustration folks feel stems from both in how the actors portrayed their characters and in which takes were chosen to be in the final cuts of episodes. In that way, the show has fed this ship, whether the actors realized it or not, and that is why Destiel has felt particularly painful at times. The fanbase has been gaslighted for seeing it at all (from actors and showrunners) while the directors have seemed to go out of their way to choose shots where the actor’s choices were more tender and affectionate and write lines where characters make explicit statements about Dean and Cas as romantic. I can’t help but wonder if Jensen really didn’t see Dean as being in love with Cas, but that we saw Jensen’s own affinity for Misha bleed through in their incredible chemsitry together or if Jensen has just been in denial of this ‘ship having teeth for his own personal reasons. I don’t know and so far, he hasn’t been willing to talk about that. Maybe he will once it’s over. Maybe he won’t and I’m not going to be angry with him for it. He’s an incredible actor and he’s lived this character for 15 years, so he has a right to who he believed Dean is and isn’t.
The issues of representation continue to be pressing and what I see happening with Destiel and these other ‘ships is exciting because it shows growth on all sides. We have audiences able to voice not only how they perceive characters without shame but can express a desire for characters to be together. None of that is new for straight characters, but it is for queer characters. We have actors who not only can see these same things, but feel enough ownership of their characters to expresss what they believe their characters would do or feel. And we have showrunners who are going to make their story, sometimes in response to feedback from their fans and actors, and sometimes in spite of it.
What Destiel becoming canon gives me hope for is that as new shows come into being, characters that take off, actors who have unexpected chemistry, and ‘ships that gain a life of their own, will lead to shows that are less inclined to care if those ships are queer or not and just go with what fans respond to. That it will normalize that people can (and do) come out an all different times of life, even after being het-married, having kids, or presenting as straight to everyone else for 40 years. That it will reflect that sometimes, it’s not about having been queer or straight from the beginning, but be about that ONE relationship that just is different, special, or grows into a deep love regardless of the genders of the people. I hope we can get to a place where deep intimacy between same-gender characters doesn’t have to be a war over romance vs. platonic and the story can just develop without the pressure of representation because queer characters will be so prevalent that we don’t have to feel like we must cling so tightly to every one we get. I hope we can come to a place where sometimes relationships don’t go romantic because one person (regardless of gender) just doesn’t feel that way, because that is very fucking true in real life. I want to watch shows where the sexual identity of any character doesn’t have to be etched in stone from the word go, never to change ever because that’s boring and limiting, and honestly, not real life.
I am deeply grateful for actors like Isaac, Caan, and Collins who are willing to see characters outside the heteronormative lens and to advocate for queer romantic arcs. I’m thankful to showrunners who are making shows with greater queer representation than ever before. And I’m grateful to actors like Ackles, who while it wasn’t who he thought his character was, was able to expand his view enough to go where the story was going to go. The arc of the universe does bend towards justice, and we will get there. Until then, there’s fic. And thank God for that.

1, 6, and 10 for the Salty Ask Meme 😊 Any fandom you feel like chatting about!
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*
Already answered with my only proper Notp. Most other ships I don't necessarily love are ones where I can maybe understand where the shippers are coming from and then I either have no strong feelings about it, or dislike it really only because the shippers are obnoxious and/or it's the only thing I ever see on AO3 or in the tags (like, I sympathise with people who don't ship Destiel, even though I do. It's even annoying for me when I want other content, or want to talk about the superior other Winchester/angel pairing).
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
I don't think so. Usually it's the opposite
Most disliked arc? Why?
Spn S15 probably, because it's a garbage fire of messy, terrible characterisation and wasted time and bad plotting with poor pacing and visually it looks terrible (poor Misha Collins. The crimes the lighting and makeup teams committed against you should never be forgiven) and also I actually hate how far they took the God/story/meta stuff. And of course it culminated in two of the worst episodes of television ever. Even 15x08 - aka the ep where my favourite, specialist boys ever finally return - is really poorly paced and there are parts that make absolutely zero sense ( eg everyone knows the Cage is open, and people have mentioned in the past that it might be a good idea to be wary because THEE archangel Michael is likely pissed, but no one, not even the queen of hell, thinks it might be a good idea to check on him, or at least keep track of where he is until Sam and Dean show up asking to see him. It's only then that they notice he's gone and has been for who knows how long). Like, Jake Abel having amazing chemistry with himself can only shoulder so much.

I have always wondered whether someone on the writing staff hates Jared
Tumblr media
The seminal storyline of Supernatural is always the relationship between Sam and Dean Winchester.  Sam was the flawed hero but not to the point where you hated him.  Sam's flaws are what made Supernatural what it is.  Sam's arcs drove the story of Supernatural forward.  Right until season 7. His flaws could be explained in canon.  His defiance in the earlier season could be the product of him being infected with demon blood as a baby and that could be the reason why he imbibed demon blood.  Losing Dean also messed him up terribly.  Kudos to Jared Padalecki playing a mourning Sam so well.  Soulless Sam wasn't his fault at all.  It was Castiel's fault.  He can't be blamed for that.
The change came in season 8.  Sera Gamble was the showrunner for season 6 and 7, and despite the fact that this fandom complains about everyone and everything, I think Sera did a very good job with the story for those two years despite the fact that Kripke had ended his tenure, in a very awkward place  Despite having a soft spot for Sam, she gave both brothers equal billing in the story.  However, Bob Singer meddled in her work, overriding her rules.  The one thing I think she was trying to do was get rid of Castiel, because his Q score was horrific.  She even managed it, but apparently Bob Singer overrode her decision and brought him back.  He interfered so much that at the end of season 7, she resigned.  Singer got his wife, Eugenie Ross-Leming and her writing partner, Brad Bucker, on the writing team in season 7.  At that point, Eugenie didn't have power.  In season 8 she became a consulting producer [in other words, she had power], then in season 9 she became co-executive producer and in season 12 she became executive producer.  So many yearly promotions?  Talk about nepotism.
As soon as Eugenie had power in her hands, the writers started to write Sam in such a hateful manner that it baffled me.  Complete character assassination.  The first thing was Purgatory in season 8.  Sam didn't bother looking for Dean in Purgatory and switched off his phone so this child who needed him was completely stranded and at risk.  That is not Sam.  Interestingly, they put all of these criticisms in Dean's mouth.  Its like they were trying to make us hate Sam.  The aftermath of Gadreel's storyline was the worst.  Sam berates Dean for allowing Gadreel to possess Sam.  Dean says that ''You were dying.  If you were in my place, you would have done the same thing.''  to which Sam very coldly and flippantly says ''no I would not''.
For a split second, my anger skyrocketed.  That little ingrate!  After everything his brother did for him!  When I calmed down and actually thought rationally, I realized that something is afoot.  First, someone is trying to destroy Sam's popularity.  Then they are saddling him with a girlfriend.  Then she left because of fan disapproval, and they saddled him with another deaf mute girl to ratchet up the sympathy levels.  That didn't make sense for Sam.  Sam would never do that, because the last girl he loved, incinerated on the ceiling.  It is selfish to bring these girls into his life.  That didn't work and eventually I think Jared got to them.  Because Sam backtracks spectacularly a few episodes later because when Dean asked Sam why Sam isn't just letting him die, Sam says ''I didn't mean it.''  That line is deux ex machina and gives me the impression that Jared picked up the phone and tore the writing team apart.
Jack is Sammy's little miracle.  The minute the boy was born, he latched onto Sam.  This is the first character [other than Dean] that Sam has any natural chemistry with.  And throughout Jack's story thus far, Sam has been significant.  Not Dean.  Not Cas.  Just Sam.  This, according to Alex Calvert himself, and fans who watch the show with no agenda.  Jack did for Sam, what Sam did for Dean.  Dean is a character that is very easy for some people to hate [please understand that I am not speaking for everyone, just some of the viewers].  He is an arrogant, rude fornicator who is selfish if you think about it.  His relationship and dedication to Sam is what softens him up and makes him likeable.  Sam is, as aforementioned, a flawed hero.  Everything that Sam did in previous seasons [that angered us], washed away when we watched him grow to care for this boy.  Sam was so gentle and nurturing and caring to Jack, that it put a smile on everyone's face and we became enamored with this beautiful relationship.
Slowly that is starting to get erased.  Dean is bonding with Jack, which I didn't mind.  But it was at the expense of elbowing Sam out of the way.  I took great offense to the fact that when Jack came back to life, Dean hugged the boy and Sam didn't.  Why?  It makes no sense.  Your child comes back from the dead and you pat his shoulder.  Nope!  Some person in the creative team hates Jared.  And I think that person is Bob Singer.  From season 12 onwards, Singer has been a co-showrunner, sharing the task with Andrew Dabb.  This guy is such a weasel that he always uses Dabb as his front man and never steps forward to claim responsibility for the train wreck that Supernatural is becoming.  So everybody hates Dabb but only the smart ones point a finger at Singer.  The reason Castiel is still on the show, we have the stupid spin off and the brother's importance is diminishing is because of this nasty man.
I wish Jensen and Jared will open their eyes, and realize that this show is their baby.  They need to clean house and get rid of a lot of leeches.  Heck, bring Sera Gamble back.  Bring back Ben Edlund who left the minute Eugenie got promoted.  Coincidence?  Seems unlikely.  So many of the nice writers are gone and Bob Singer is holding the reins of Supernatural, letting Misha Collins run amok and making the Winchester boys [as well as the actors that play them], second class citizens on their own show.

Tried myself at a little bit of fanfiction today...
- Read The Damned Script -
Part 1
“Okay, so next scene we’ll shoot the kiss. Set up, on your marks in five…,” the director kept yelling, but all Jensen heard were the nervous chuckles of Misha, who was standing a few feet away, joking around with Jared. The latter had his phone in his hand, likely showing Misha some dirty memes he’d found online and no doubt found hilarious. And Misha had never been one to resist a dirty joke. Today, however, Jensen could tell that Misha’s laughter didn’t come as quickly as it normally did. And it sounded a bit forced. That was a good thing! For a while Jensen had worried he was the only one affected by what was planned for the day.
The writers had finally gone there.
Destiel would happen.
And really, at this point, in a sense, it was the inevitable thing. Thirteen seasons had come and gone, now they were filming the fourteenth. The relationship between the characters Dean and Castiel had been a central story for many episodes and to write all of their interactions off as mere friendship wasn’t cutting it anymore. Neither with the fans, nor with the writers.
You can only deny something for so long. At some point you have to own up to what you’ve done and Misha and Jensen both knew they had played the ambiguity a bit too strong. That’s what you get for having good chemistry.
“Ackles, make-up!” One of the PAs was waving at him, pulling him out of his thoughts.
He turned towards Misha as two women with overstuffed make-up bags began swarming around him like angry little bees. “Hey, Mish! It’s time.”
Misha nodded. “Coming!” As he made his way over he loosened his tie, giving himself the slightly ruffled look viewers of their show had become accustomed to. “You brushed your teeth today, right?”
“Ha. Ha.” Jensen rolled his eyes, but despite his efforts to look annoyed, a grin snuck up his face and increased. Around Misha, he couldn’t help himself. Something about his friend put him at ease, made him lose some of that stiffness that he too often used as a shield of protection.
“I’m not sure this was a good idea,” Misha told him as an elderly woman with gel in her hands adjusted his hair. “We should have rehearsed this scene. The script just said *kiss*. The director told us to do it our way and see where things go. But seriously, it’s a big moment for the show and you just want to wing it?”
Jensen didn’t want to wing it. He didn’t want to kiss Misha at all, but he absolutely wouldn’t do it more often than necessary. “It’ll be fine. I’ll pretend you’re Danneel and you’ll pretend I’m Vicky. Just do it like you did when you first kissed her. Can’t be that hard, right?”
Misha sputtered a laugh. “I’m not going to kiss you like I kissed my wife.”
“You know what I mean,” Jensen retorted.
The director took his place. “Ready, let’s go. Ackles, Collins, on your marks. Everyone - positions!”.
Misha took one last glance at the script, made his way towards his mark and leaned against the doorframe of what was Dean’s room in the bunker.
“Action!”
“Dean,” began Misha, as Castiel the angel, “we have to face reality. If the last decade showed us anything, then that angels aren't meant to walk the earth. My job here is done. Michael is no more. Lucifer is no more. I have to return to heaven, help rebuild what I destroyed.”
“You can return to heaven,” said Jensen, as Dean, “but you don’t need to barricade the doors behind you. Forever is a damn long time to lock yourself up there.”
“Time in heaven is different from time on earth. It’s—”
“Yeah, I didn’t ask for a physics lecture!” Trying his best to convey a look of longing and uncertainty, Jensen approached Misha, invading his personal space. “What about us? About me, about Sam. You’re prepared to just abandon us?” Jensen inched closer to Misha. He knew his friend, knew all his telltale signs, knew when he was on the verge of breaking character or of laughing, when he forgot his lines, and he knew when his friend was nervous. And the way Misha sucked in air in that very moment told him that he was absolutely nervous. No acting, just raw emotion.
Misha, as Castiel, straightened up, met Dean’s eyes with one of those wistful looks they had become famous for. “I’m not abandoning the two of you. The fight is over. There are more hunters than ever protecting the humans and less demons to fight. I have a duty, Dean. I was made for a purpose.”
“You don’t get it, do you? I’m not talking about hunting, Cas! We spent a decade fighting side by side and now that there’s a little bit of peace on earth, you can’t even stick around for a beer? You want to leave for good. What did you imagine I’d say?”
“Good luck?”
“Oh come on, Cas!”
“Dean, I don’t understand—”
Jensen grabbed Misha’s face, held it firmly, and smashed his lips against those of his friend. All around them, the crew was adjusting lights, the cameramen were zooming in and out, trying to get their frames, the director shouted orders ranging from “kiss him,” “move your lips,” and “a bit of groping, please” to “less squinting,” and “stop moaning!”
Moaning. When had he done that? Jensen’s mouth was still pressed against Misha’s but on a scale of ‘One’ to ‘Best Kiss Ever’, this one ranged below zero. Misha’s lips were tightly shut, Jensen’s weren’t moving at all, and he was pretty sure his hands were leaving marks on Misha’s cheeks.
“Cut! That was fucking awful! Jesus fucking Christ, one would think you guys knew how to kiss! Jensen, you were on a soap for crying out loud,” the director rambled on, “and Misha, what the fuck? Let’s do that again, with a little more emotion this time, please?” The ‘please’ sounded suspiciously much like ‘or else there will be deathly consequences!’
So everything was set up again.
“Sorry, Jensen. That was my fault. I froze, I don’t know what happened,” whispered Misha as he got into position anew.
Jensen chuckled, hoping to appear unfazed. “Well, you don’t kiss one of your best friends every day, so, I get it.”
“Action.”
Lines were said again and once more they reached the point of no return.
“Oh come on, Cas!” Jensen put more emphasis on his lines this time, trying desperately to sound like a man overwhelmed by his own feelings and less like a man overwhelmed by his fears.
“Dean,” said Misha, as Castiel, pushing the slightest bit away from the doorframe, to allow for more room to move, “I don’t understand—”
Jensen went in. Hands returned to Misha’s face, holding it firmly, angling it upwards just the slightest bit. Then their lips touched. Only there was a problem. This time around, Misha didn’t freeze. His mouth had opened just a hint, giving leave for their lips to align perfectly. Jensen tasted the coffee Misha had consumed earlier, mixed with the mint of that gum he’d bummed from him. A hint of stubble on both of their faces created a wicked friction that momentarily caused Jensen to forget who he was and what he was supposed to be doing. He let his instincts take over, let his thumbs move across Misha’s face, let his lips do what lips were meant to do when kissing.
And things went downhill from there.
None of it worked as it was supposed to work. Dean was meant to kiss Cas briefly, then be startled by what he had done. But Jensen wasn’t the only one not remembering his job. Castiel was supposed to freak out, shocked by that avid display of passion from Dean, a man who was not known for impulsively kissing male human vessels. Misha didn’t shove him away, instead his body glued itself to Jensen’s, thighs began to rub against thighs, lips moved faster, firmer, their stomachs were mashed together, breathing became uneven, hands started to wander—
“Cut! Fuck this shit! We ain’t shooting softcore here! Guys, I’m taking five and when I get back, you better remember that you’re supposed to be professionals and not horny teenagers. Read the damned script!”

Dear Misha Collins
I don't think you know how to handle your career.  There are mistakes that you are making to your own detriment.  I am doing the decent thing here by pointing them out to you.  When you are an actor, you are the salesman and the product.  These two elements are a benefit to an actor when he manages these two things cleverly, which you have not done.  These two elements are symbiotic.  You need them both.  And the dominant element is the salesman.  If the product is good, but the salesman sucks, the product is not appreciated.
Take Sam and Dean Winchester as a good example.  Sam is a flawed hero.  He is also, to an extent in the earlier seasons, something of an anti-hero although not a full blown villain.  Dean wasn't as flawed and his swashbuckling gung-ho nature was easier to enjoy than Sam's pensiveness.  Those who didn't know much about the BTS of the show in the early season, latched on to the lead characters.  At that time they didn't know the actors.  For many of them, Sam appeared kind of self-righteous and grumpy.  Yes, he was handsome, but so was Dean who are the more funnier, showier character, so it was easy to latch onto him.  Dean also bonds with other characters faster than Sam does.
When the first cons were held, people were enthusiastic about meeting the actors who play Sam and Dean expecting the actors to be exactly like their characters.  When they realized that Jared is absolutely nothing like his character and was, by nature, quite a loveable and happy young man, they loved him back enthusiastically.  But they encountered Jensen's reserved nature, some thought he was shy whilst others thought he was a snob.  Because Jared was such an awesome salesman, his product [Sam] became more palatable to the audience.  Jensen realized that as a salesman, he had a little work to do.  Being construed as shy is not bad, but being seen as a snob is definitely not a good look.  So he started trying to change his public image, despite his reserved nature.
So you have to examine your audience and make necessary changes to your salesman pitch, so as to not put off your target market.  Then people started to see meaningfulness in the friendship that J2 share.  Some liked the chemistry their character's shared.  The actors acknowledged that these ideas existed but didn't shoot them down.  Jensen said that he understood it was a ''hot fantasy'', which is very accurate.  They just requested that fans not ask them questions on the subject, which makes sense, because why would you want my opinion on your fantasy.  That is ridiculous.  These two groups, Tinhat fans and wincest fans, have been around for 13 years, without making a peep.  You don't hear about them, unless you go looking for them.  And unlike a few nasty people on Twitter, the majority has since the beginning, respected J2.
Part of the credit for this goes to the actors themselves.  They didn't overindulge this subsection, because that would be an idiotic sales pitch.  I don't think you understand why.  Why is it that Sam and Dean's popularity hasn't waned?  They have shouldered the burden of a show that is now in its fourteenth season.  They are getting more popular and mass media has an eye on them, which is why they are invited on talk shows, sporadically.  You were invited on Larry King, but it was not because of your work on the show, it was for your charity project.  And your charity project is not your livelihood.  Your acting job is, and it isn't looking very good.  You weren't even a series regular last year, and most people didn't seem to mind.
Here is where your sales pitch is going wrong.
You fragment the total viewing population of the show
You do this by your con etiquette.  The fans who buy tickets to watch your panel are a heterogeneous group of people.  The problem with having this type of audience, is that you have to curb your language around them, because children attend cons too.  You use vulgar language.  You also speak about sexually explicit things like shipping.  The parents and older siblings sitting in the audience might be offended, and that never occurred to you.  That is very baffling.  The parents who are not offended stay on and those who are, won't watch a Misha panel again with their kids.  Fragmentation.  You have broken your total con audience in two.
When people ask you about shipping, you don't politely acknowledge it and move on.  You ''lay it on thick'' as they say.  There is a lot that is wrong with that.
Any straight male fan who genuinely admires your character is not likely going to sit through something he doesn't care about.  Especially since you become very explicit.  He will feel kind of grossed out, as he should, not because he's homophobic but because this is not his jam.  By overdoing the shipping thing, you have forced a decision out of this fan as to whether he wants to pay good money to sit through this nonsense again.  The next time he attends con, he is going to spend his money elsewhere.  That also goes for straight female fans who don't like shipping.  Because not all women like slash.  And they will try not to attend you panel again because it didn't entertain them.  Second fragmentation.
There are other ships in the fandom.  That is the natural progression of things went one ship appears on a show or movie.  That initial pairing pulls all the other characters in.  So almost everyone of the well known actors on Supernatural have been slashed with another actor.  All except Tahmoh Penikett and Alexander Calvert, to the best of my knowledge.  I am not sure why Tahmoh is ignored but it might have something to do with his character killing Kevin.  I think Alex is not slashed because every other man is a father figure on the show, and Alex plays a baby.  You tend to indulge mostly the destiel fanbase, and destiel is discussed in almost all your panels.  What is wrong with that?  You isolate people who don't like destiel for whatever reason.  If they don't like a pairing, they are not going to sit through a panel where that pairing is sporadically discussed.  That is not what they paid for.  In a convention, where audience members have been asked not to ask shipping questions, and every other guest honors the rule except you, it makes you look unprofessional and a rule breaker.  That is not a good look for a salesman.  Third fragmentation.
So what if you speak about destiel?  You have fans.  They love you.  How is that detrimental to your popularity?  I will explain that further down.
You bite the hand that feeds you
If you have been employed on a show for ten years, you cant badmouth that show.  Especially when you are incorrect.  In 2013, you said that the show was 'gratuitously misogynistic', during one of your panels.  Since then, the show has been bringing in unnecessary female characters.  This is aggravating for fans who were watching the show since before you got casted.  They didn't like most of the female characters, and yes the non-approving fans were all female. Ratings were still good and the show was popular.  There were female characters whom the fans had no problem with, for example, Missouri Mosley, Ellen Harvelle, Pamela Barnes and to a certain extent even Ava.
Ever since your statement, CW and associated twitter pages blew up with accusation from  ''concerned fans'' who were now asking for ''representation'' on a show that was already nine years old, despite managing to be misogynistic.  So now, we have characters are extremely unpopular like Claire Novak, Jody Mills, Donna Whatshername and even Mary Winchester.  The spinoff for these inadequate females bombed due to lack of ratings.  The show invested time, resources, money and effort into a spin-off that failed, because you said something stupid that made them look bad.  The day they figure it out, you will leave the show with a reputation of being problematic.  And word travels in Hollywood.
You overestimate your knowledge
You tend to speak up for a lot of different people.  Usually I would admire that, because it is a sign of inclusiveness - not a bad trait to have.  You, however, are very heavy handed with it.  And you speak about subjects like you know them.  You have an inadequate knowledge of slash fiction and yet you speak about it and you speak wrong.  I have already done an article on that subject.  You speak about feminism and misogyny and women's rights which makes me livid, because as I previously pointed out, you say the wrong things.  And as a women, I would prefer to speak up for myself.  I don't need a voice box speaking incorrectly for me.
You also speak about LGBT issues.  LGBT teens who make up a small part of your already small fanbase, like that.  After all, they are kids and they don't know any better.  Grown ups, are generally, getting irritated.  Because if you wanted these people to have rights, you will let them speak instead of speaking for them.  Right now, only you and your destiel fans have a voice on the subject of LGBT, and collectively, you do a lot of damage to that community.  Non-destiel fans are constantly fighting off destiel fans because of their ''deep'', stereotypical and damaging analysis of Dean's sexuality.  They are becoming dissatisfied, but because you are not a mainstream actor and a household name, you fly just under the radar.  The day GLAAD releases an official statement about you and your fans, you are not going to like it.  Neither is CW.
You don't control your termites
In the past year and a half, your destiel fans have:
verbally bashed Jensen Ackles on Twitter
sent him a death threat
threatened to burn down his house
threatened to poison his beer so his brewery will shut down
smeared J2's reputation over a harmless joke they made at Nolacon [yep, those were your fans - their profile pictures and names gave them away]
were planning to hire a plane so that they could fly the words ''Pedowitz sucks'' outside Mark Pedowitz's office
threatened to kidnap Jared's children
slandered Jared by saying that Jared abuses his wife, whilst pretending to be her number one fan on Instagram
They only have one motivation for doing this:  YOU.
And its not because they love you so much.  Its because you overindulged something that was essentially a harmless pastime, you have turned them into junkies and you are their only dealer.  The day you switch off their juice with finality, you will see a very ugly side of these termites, who are eating away at the foundations of Supernatural.
Because you over spoke about destiel, these troublemakers are now the majority of your fans.  Outside of destiel, they have no interest in you.  The Misha-led con recently didn't do very well, did it?  Due to fragmentation you have lost many fans, and mishandling of your product caused you to use all the others.  How many fans do you have left?  Less that 80 000.  That is my estimation.  Those are the majority of the fans who petitioned for Wayward Daughters.  The standard audience didn't give a hoot about that stupid project.  Why did the shippers care so much?  Because Wayward Daughters was a fan-backed project.  The fans made it happen.  They assumed that if they could succeed in that, then maybe they could make destiel canon too.  For them, destiel is endgame.
Supernatural as a total audience of 3 million.  Less that 80 000, is not an impressive number.  Unfortunately 80 000 are still inaccurate, because this was not a ''landlocked'' survey.  It was done via the Internet, which means that fans from all over the world could vote.  So they don't fall under the category of the 3 million viewers who tune into Supernatural in America, every week.  You fans are not Supernatural's core audience.  You did that to yourself.  These fans are also mostly teens.  That is why they are so loud compared to other fan subsections.  They have no mortgages to pay.  They don't have to face rush hour traffic and they can fixate on destiel without much interruption.  And since they are kids, they understand social media better than you and I.  So they know how to use their resources.
I want to point out though, that not all destiel fans are problematic.  Some are civil and level headed.  I feel sorry for them because their reputation is tarnished due to the majority.  And an ok ship, that they enjoy, is ruined.
The only thing that is your saving grace, for many fragmented fans is your anti-Trump stance.  I hate him too, but I also hate Hillary.  She is no better than him.  However, even that is baffling because if you are brave enough to tweet and irritate Trump, who is unfortunately your President, why don't you have the courage to deal with your fans, in defense of your co-stars and the show that has employed you for ten years.  Especially when these fans are mostly children.  So you are not afraid of President Trump, but little girls scare you?  Because my vantage point, I can see that this doesn't make you look good.
You used to be one of my favorites amongst the additional cast, until I got fragmented out of your circle.  I even liked destiel, until it turned into a vile beast.  You are now one person, that I cant write a slash story for.  Because you have made it difficult for me to like you.
I thank you for your time, Mr Collins, and I hope some of what I said, gets through to you.
Sincerely
An ex-Misha Fan
