hi so im one of those ppl that watched dnp religiously years ago and ive been out of the loop for a long time so what’s the thing about the wedding theory & the phil tag thing? if you dont mind explaining or maybe pointing me in the direction of someone else who could?

Oh well hello welcome back! Very long rambley answer under the cut :)

Tbh there's been way more insane stuff that's happened since, but in 2022 the biggest thing that had happened was Dan released his video "Why I Quit YouTube" where he announced that he was going on a solo tour ("We're All Doomed") and making some YouTube videos to go along with / promote the tour ("Dystopia Daily"). So I don't remember the exact details (I bet if you search dan and phil iceland on tumblr you might find some stuff), but Dan's tour was supposed to end in Iceland, and based on some stuff his friend PJ said on twitch it seemed like maybe he (and his gf) and Dan and Phil were going to have a vacation in Iceland after the last show. And idk if there was anything else (like maybe based on stuff they were liking on social media idk lol) people were like... what if they are having a wedding in Iceland after the last show? Apparently Iceland has been advertised as a gay wedding tourism destination too so idk. I think tumblr phannies were just bored and clowning but also it was 2022 which was the infamous prophesized year they were supposed to get married (based on a joke Crabstickz made years ago), so there was this thought like, what if they get married in early 2023 (when the Iceland show was supposed to be) out of spite.

Anyways, the Iceland show ended up getting cancelled. I'm not exactly sure why, but there were some other cancelled shows too and some people suspect it was due to poor ticket sales / too many shows in one city / issues with venues (maybe they were scheduling some that were too big) / issues with promotion (dan's management and touring agencies left most of the promotion to him outside of the standard local venues in-house promotion). Both Dan and Phil got new management this year after all that (Dan now has an agent for his comedy / touring stuff, Phil has an agent for his own channel, and then they have another agent for the gaming channel).

Anyways, 2023 kicked off and Dan and Phil started doing all kinds of insane stuff, which that's a whole other long post about how wild this year has been (Japhan 3.0, OnlyPhans, Gaming Channel comeback, Dan being a slutty nun for Halloween baking, Catboy calendar, etc) and they have been pretty open and comfortable together online lately (while still being fairly private) and more settled in their lives that some people actually think they might actually be getting married. Which, idk maybe we are just being insane again but this time I actually do think it's more believable lol. They bought/designed a house together (though I think it's actually a condo? penthouse? something like that) and Phil has had some health issues so even though they might not really be the kind to want to get married, some people are wondering if they might do it for legal reasons and also to maybe celebrate their relationship with family since Dan came out to his family and then like 9 months after their coming out videos the pandemic happened. Also doesn't help that next year is their 15th anniversary, which the anniversary of the first day they met takes place on the same day Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance are performing at the We Were Young Festival 2024 lmaooo. I mean some people are still convinced that they are queerplatonic and romantic exes or something like that but there's a lot they have shared that heavily implies that they aren't.

Okay, now the Phil tag examiner... Idk there was this blog that kept sending people asks anytime they posted something in the Dan and Phil or dnp tags that didn't explicitly mention Phil, and were like "hello this is the Phil tag examiner please keep posts only about Dan out of the Dan and Phil tag" and it was kinda funny to be honest. It stopped after a while idk what happened to them but no one was taking them seriously.

Anyways, I got back into dnp while Dan was on his tour about a year ago, and it's been such a wild year and now is probably like one of the best times to start watching them again there's sooo much new content with the gaming channel and they are being very authentically themselves it's really great.

I was first and foremost a pinterest girlie. The typical oh my parents won't let me have any form of social media except pinterest oh oh no boy little did they know all the internet shenanigans ends up there it's objectively the best place to "culture" yourself or "acclimatise" for the internet or something

Like, really, it's all content from all the apps compiled for YOU according to the humour YOU like it's amazing

Anyways going off topic .. I have intense FOMO so I obviously started to educate myself on all things internet

One day whilst idly browsing pinterest I happened on pictures of dnp from a tumblr post I don't remember what the post itself was but probably something phan but I didn't know that at the time and I immediately went and checked who they were because I must know and google said they're two British youtubers people ship together and I said okay cool and just left it at that

A month or two later they happened onto my pinterest again and my brain said hey you've had a pretty well curated for you page all things we like so maybe check em out see how it goes probably something we like so I said ok bet and I did and I watched a video of them I think pinof 4 and I was like okay these guys are super random they're funny but I don't get half the things they reference

But then the youtube gods saw my destiny and said this is your fate child and starting recommending it to me all the time

So I gave in and I watched them and they were amazing, healing and wonderful and they really really helped me

Especially like BIG and dans monologue about gender and sexuality really resonated with me cause I didn't really think about this before but I realised I actually agreed with him that gender is baseless but that rant is for another time

And phil, loveliest dearest funniest phil, whenever I was having a hard time he'd been there cheering me up

If you can't tell I joined the phandom in the cursed covid years I was here for the 2022 phivorce which was objectively hilarious

I know this is incredibly long. Longer than necessary but I've typed it all now and words must not be gone to waste so here you are and here we are

I was thinking about the theory that they've already gotten married the other day but then I remembered Dan only came out to his family in 2019 so either a) he got married without telling his family (which I doubt) b) they got married in that brief period between him telling them and the pandemic (because I doubt they'd do it during the pandemic) which I also doubt to be honest because to me it seems too far fetched, or c) they're not officially married.

Now, option c seems the most likely to me. But I'm willing to bet they're engaged and waiting for the right time to get married (idk if they have started planning it considering everything else that's been going on with their lives). I'm definitely a big fan of the Japan engagement theory, especially after that last stereo! We know they like the idea of marriage and kids so it seems strange for them to not want to get married!

Anyway, just wanted to get that out of my system (I have no phannie friends) and get your opinion on it!

Just a heads up like I was a super voracious reader before I got sick and I still strongly identify with literary sensibilities, but my brain has made concentrating on written word soooo hard— I’ve been enjoying poetry and essays and short stories, and audiobooks, but yes ,, these book questions will be a little out of date lol

1- how many books are too many books in a series?

A trilogy is the perfect length I think, anything longer than that ought to really have a Reason (she says, fully loving narnia and anne of green gables and little house on the prairie and ASOIAF and hp 😭✌️)

Fine at the end of chapters, if the like tension demands it. Terrible at the end of books, truly cruel

finding new fandoms after feeling like dnp weren’t doing it for me anymore was just. life changing lmao but srsly i look back and yeah i’ll probs always have a special place in my heart ✨ for dnp but they stopped being content creators and idk what the expect us to be excited about when they’re not doing anything. yes dan wrote a book (still skeptical about that) and yeah phil’s doing some? liveshow thing? idk how it works but MAN going to different fandoms and being part of that is like a damn breath of fresh air because the phandom really is toxic and borderline insane. and phil’s videos are so boring, i’m sorry but idk what happened to him but they’re just. low effort - and not in the jenna marbles way - they just seem kinda lazy at times, like he just threw the idea together at the last second, i don’t even watch them all the way through because they’re either repetitive or just mind numbingly boring and im already looking for a different video to watch. it’s such a shame to think these two people meant so much to me at one point but now?? dust. lmao. literal dust.

dropping dnp finding new fandoms has been so refreshing. especially finding a fictional fandom to actively be a part of (yeah i’m still into kpop but i’ve always been into kpop). like fictional fandoms is fun! if there’s drama it’s usually because fans are morally shit people and not that the thing u stan is shit! it’s great! i highly recommend phannies finding new fandoms!

it’s actually really good that you mentioned jenna marbles because i feel like she is the perfect example of what content creators who are at the end of their careers should do. like ever since 2018 jenna had been slowly morphing into content that was slower... more personal.... her channel was always about thing’s she wanted to do but in the last year or so she really just embodied the concept of “i’m doing this for me, if u also enjoy it then that’s cool” and it worked!! y’all know i love jenna. she was at a similar crossroads as phil and when she chose herself, phil chose exploitation and being ingenue to fans. he does nothing that’s genuine. he has an aesthetic... an aesthetic that he clings to and is it genuine? honestly... no. it’s an image he sells to the fans... it’s something that isn’t him but he is so stuck in this downwards spiral of irrelevancy and losing fans that he doesn’t seem to know how to change (nor does he seem to want to change bc there r enough phannies out there who still lap up his mediocre content and perch drops).

the way i see it (abt f&g) is that it's like. the most logical conclusion. im gonna use dan&phil as a comparison here forgive me but there was like...a SUBSTANTIAL period of time b4 they came out where it was more logical to conclude they were together than not. and i feel like. it's the same thing. franks been w his wife for like 20yrs but keeps writing abt how someones broke his heart? hmm i wonder who we know for sure he cared abt a lot. sometimes. the easiest answer is the right one

i forgot to answer this its from last night but i really want to answer it bc. i am a phannie. and i know exactly what you mean. just like gerard plans things, dan and phil also meticulously plan things and are very particular about which parts of themselves they share on the internet. they make it seem like you know them very well and like you’re a friend of theirs but i think it only really scratches the surface. in their case they’re VERY protective of their relationship, it’s not for the outside world. which i get. 

but yes before the came out they. i honestly think they planned it like 2 years in advance. slowly acclimating us to the new norm. so that by the time they came out, yea, it was like. we know they’re together. they haven’t said and they have vehemently denied it in the past it but we see the way they are with each other and how long they’ve lived together and how they do everything with each other and have neither had a known significant other since they’ve known each other and they dan goes with phil to his parents house for holidays and so on. and it was like. yea. the simplest answer was that they were together. and eventually they came out and confirmed it.

and i think the same thing with frank and gerard. to me it is the most logical conclusion. the other option is frank is writing all these songs about someone else that we’ve never heard of. but the fact is he has all of this history with gerard and spent so much of his life with him touring. and there’s already rumors about the two of them. and then they start writing songs that kind line up with the theories that already exist. it’s just the easiest answer to come to.

aight so this is kind of a continuation of a previous dream, so heres the synopsis of that:

i was chillin in a room with a bunch of other phannies and we were just shitpostin until i suddenly lie down on the ground and proclaim: "They were more than romantic. What does that even MEAN!"

heres a strong summary of the dream i just had:

i was still on the floor, contemplating. it felt like when Mr Buddha meditated so hard under a tree that he became Woke™️ and invented an entire religion. it mustve been some time as everyone else moved on and forgot about my desperate demands. at one point i shoot up. it was if out of no where i understood the universe. i had seen the face of god, he spoke to me, and i merely repeated his words:

"Dan perceived his relationship with Phil as more than romantic because it was the first relationship in his life that he was able to fall in love and encourage it. He felt safe enough to nurture this new part of himself with someone he grew to trust in a way he never had the opportunity to. He also was never really exposed to many healthy romantic relationships around him. This new thing was something entirely new and special. Therefore, it was just a romantic relationship, but it was the first relationship he felt safe enough to nurture, making it more than romantic."

like, brother? its OCTOBER! this video was MONTHS ago! and yet god said he wasnt even DONE yet?! like why ME?! im the LAST person on earth who would care and yet i woke up fucking CRYING as if it was the most cursed dream ive ever had.

sorry i dont have anyone to talk to this about lol so it's going in your inbox but i'm in my mid-20s and only now for the first time in my life have i changed my mind on rpf specifically because of phanfic. i'm a returning phannie but like.... the last time i watched them was all the way back in 2012. and was very ani-rpf then and have continued to be through the years. and i think in a lot of cases i maintain that position. but after falling back in love with dnp and the phandom and caving into the urge to read some phanfic knowing that dnp themselves encourage and respect it im kind of shocked to find it's actually a really beautiful, metatextual, interactive creative outlet. i think youve talked a bit about how phanfic isnt really rpf to you and i kind of agree, because dan and phil to me are like.... an idea, a mythology, a narrative, that theyre aware of and have built as well as being aware that we're aware of. like the idea of dan and phil has been constructed by them and their fans hand in hand for over a decade. and i find that phanfic itself is very aware of this and exists to expand upon those ideas. lol. yeah that's it sorry for this ramble. i just find it surprising that something could change my mind on that in this day and age but it's been a very cool experience.

hello welcome youve come to the right place for this yap because i COMPLETELY understand you. like genuinely i am not this attached to any other "rpf" content like this? ok i had an egobang phase but honestly arin and danny have grown to share a similar but not exact same connection as dnp BUT I DIGRESS

but yeah i think a lot of it is due to the contrastive relationships between the brand of Dan and Phil™, their separate individual brands Daniel Howell and AmazingPhil (particularly dan), the Phanon dnp, and the actual real people dan and phil. i always go back to the fanfiction segment of tatinof but its just such a perfect example of what i mean. like, the entire idea to have a fanfic scene was ofc the real people's idea, and they used tropes they would see in the phanon to convey the audience interactive story, but at the same time had to keep it at least Somewhat appropriate for the Brand™ at the time being very pre-teen and teen focused. honestly idk how much you've gone back and watched of what you missed, but i would suggest doing that not just cuz theres some incredible stuff from those eras, but also seeing the intersection of the brand, fanon, and real people and when they split apart. you see it a lot especially in gaming videos imo where theyre unscripted, and once they got more comfortable in the gaming channel roles the energy shifting away from Brand but never too far... until ofc now where what even is their brand anymore just Chaos and Queerness i guess

OH ALSO go read some old fic and compare to newer ones like its not just that writing styles changed or that dnp themselves have changed, but the like. energy and intent put into fic has changed. i would say in the past it was more exploratory, putting dnp in AU's and imagines, or exploring what Could have happened. whereas now, yes ofc there are au's and fic for the purpose of exploring a concept or world, but also its a lot more introspective. exploring the inner world a bit more. idk i just thijk dnp are funny lil guys and they accidentally created some freaky lil creatures in a lab somewhere...

ive been watching the boys since gr 10? i think? so its been like... 7 years for me yIKES. i wouldnt say im a phannie or in the phandom but ive consistently watched nearly all their vids not long after theyve come out and rewatched certain ones when im bored or theyre in my recommended. i def would have said i was a phan when i was 15 tho but ive never spent money on them. i have legit only interactee in the phandom by following your blog to keep up w drama bc im too lazy to check tags sometimes

That seems like a pretty similar situation for me! I’ve been watching them for about 6 years, so since I was about 16, and back in my younger days, I definitely got neck deep in the phan theories and stuff like that. I never actively participated in the Phandom until starting this blog last year, and I’ve also never spent money on them. But I’ve consistently watched every video since I subscribed, and they’re really the only people I’ve been watching consistently for that long, with the exception of people like Jenna and Shane.

tbh i'm excited for dan's livestream thing ! i really like the "what if dan was proud" concept. i've always wondered how dan (and even phil) felt about staying in the closet for so long, if they've ever experienced regret about not coming out sooner, and even how everything would've been if they joined that coming out trend in about 2015 and joined all those other lgbt youtubers in coming out of the closet. it's interesting to think about, at least.

following up on that last point i mentioned, do you think dnp would've lost some popularity if they came out in the early 2010's instead of 2019? i think a big appeal to older fans, unfortunately, was the mystery of their sexuality and relationship status at that time. don't even get me started on the fact that this was even exploited quite often by youtubers and sketchy websites alike for views and easy clicks !

because i think this would quickly become an essay on the ethics of being a tad too invasive for one's own good, i'll shut up now lol. anyway, it just makes me think a bit too much, and it feels good to unleash my thoughts anonymously (: hope i didn't sound too pretenious with my ramblings ❤️

no exactly, im excited for it and im glad hes doing it, and its a nice concept, but knowing dan, its probably not going to be anything we havent heard before. i almost wish he had the same concept but did it himself, as his own idea and his own thing, rather than a youtube event. idk, i have mixed feelings about it. as for coming out in 2015 with everyone else, i dont think they wouldve been ready, nor would the world be welcoming of them, at least as much as we are now.

i think they definitely wouldve lost popularity, yes, but they also wouldve been in a horrible position, and both phannies and people who have barely heard of them wouldve treated them horribly, and they probably wouldve either quit youtube or struggled along, but it definitely wouldve hurt them mentally. especially with all we know now about dan and his health throughout his life, i am very, very, very glad they waited. i truly believe they came out at the perfect time.

Don't get me wrong I've been fed up with the phandom since I joined this god awful place. I'm sure people have wanted me to leave anyway, so here you go.

I wonder what dan and phil really think of you all. Surely they must know all the dumb and disrespectful shit that goes on if they lurk as much as they say they do. Then again, i wonder... if they know how bad it is here, why haven't they said anything? Why can't they put their audience in check? I know everything is mostly light hearted and fun but it's not fun for me anymore. The only people who think the phandom is a peaceful utopia are the ones causing the problems. Some people are too blind to see it and some people might even try to argue with me on this post. Go ahead, I’ll leave the phandom with a fight. One last round for all the wonderful times.

You don't ship phan? You’re homophobic and you don't belong here. Also you just want dan to yourself and youre labeling him as straight and (if you’re lgbt+) you’re faking your own sexuality to prove a point.

It doesn't help that dan and phil subtly use Phan™ to make their income. There's nothing wrong with that, but i feel like it's driven some people in the phandom to be entitled and rude and put them on a high horse. It just normalises their invasive behavior. It feeds their fantasies to the point where they become tinhats instead of shippers. To be honest, im fucking tired of it. Not of dan and phil per se, of their audience for being so dimwitted they can't see the obvious fan service. Look on the bright side: two already successful, rich men are being more successful and rich.

Never have I met an audience more entitled and more bratty than this one. I can't help but feel like dan and phil did have something to do with this, seeing as they never addressed the problems within their community. (I mean, dan tried to in 2012, but that year doesn't exist!1!!1 meanwhile 2009 is hard hitting proof. seriously get over yourself.) It’s hard work, and I’m sure in Dan’s cynical eyes theres nothing that can be done about it, but it is possible. Look at jacksepticeye’s community. When do you ever hear about drama going on there? Do you see any type of hierarchy going on there? Now look at that phandom. I mean, throwing a fit because they slept on separate floors on tour?? Get over yourself. Accusing them of queerbaiting because they act like actual friends and roommates on camera?? Come ON. Sending hate to their friends? Are you really going to stoop that low, all in the name of a fictional ship? Even worse, when popular blogs send their followers on rampages when someone goes against the norm (the norm being shipping phan and constantly overanalyzing their every move.) It's ridiculous.

Anyway, I could go on forever about the bad stuff in this place. I’d like to mention some of the good as well. I’ve come across plenty of wonderful people who have complimented me on my writing, people who have backed me up in the ‘not-shipping-phan’ thing. I technically got in my first relationship through this fandom. I have internet friends that I never want to let go of. I’ll always remember the people who sent me kind words when I went on hiatus.

Dan and Phil are a significant part of my life. They've gotten me through some tough shit, they've made me smile. I looked at their first book on the day it was released and was glad i didn't kill myself. Dan made me feel less alone and more comfortable with my cynicism. Phil has calmed me and made me smile when i felt like the crying would never end.

But at the same time, they’re so aggravating! Why can't they tell their audience to cool it? Sure, people will send sarcastically rude things to Dan and everyone will laugh and have a good time. But what about when people stalk their personal lives? What if either of them has a significant other and the phandom goes into a frenzy?

That's honestly what's kept me here for this long. There has always been a part of me that just hopes that they'll acknowledge phan, or come forward with a significant other. I wanted to stick around to see that. But I've taken the phandom’s shit for a bit too long, and I've seen the phandom tear my friends to pieces. I cant take it anymore.

Sidenote: this blog isn't going to deactivate. I'll leave it up solely for the people who read my writing (if y'all are still out there lmao.) And I'll probably talk about me and my girlfriend here, should i find the need. I probably won't reblog Dan and Phil anymore. Not that it matters, I've been losing followers anyway.
