One small issue I have with duo names is that a lot of them are because of extremely specific things that happened, not things that really reminds me of the characters together, and let's be honest here, crazy duo, insane duo... These duos could represent more than half of the people on the island!

But honestly I think my problem is that I have a bad memory and I memorize the name of the duos by association, like guapo duo where Cellbit called Roier guapito, that I can remember, but now the difference between crazy duo, insane duo and chaos duo?? My dumbass could never.

And another thing, not very relevant, it's sad to see that Mike + Slime is called green duo and not green grief, a missed opportunity 😔 (<-<-<-Not a good name, just likes it because the two words start with the same letter)

okay i’m gonna use this ask to clear something up rq! nothing against you anon, i’m honestly not even too sure what you were trying to convey here (in the sense that idk if you’re saying this to agree with me or because you think i’m a fan of them and disagreeing with me), but i’m not a huge fan of duo names!! i agree with all of this!! i think a lot of them are badly chosen and broad and, most importantly, impossible to keep track of.

which is WHY i created the duo names spreadsheet in the first place. i’m aware i can’t stop people from making new ones. so the best thing i can do is alleviate the issue of memorization by creating an easy to navigate tool to organize and chart them all. i don’t know if people are Aware of that or if i’ve been giving the vibes of someone who really fucking loves duo names. hence why i’m clearing it up now just in case ^_^

antigravityshipping is a very special boat to me because i like it in one very specific way that isn't TECHNICALLY shipping them. and that's at a basic level ghetsis uncharacteristically being head over heels for him and very characteristically being pissed off about it and hiding it and refusing to let colress or anyone else become aware of it. Colress is supremely aware of it anyway and makes a game out of subtlely fucking with him at every turn because he (justifiably) can't stand this man and feels smug over knowing he's one of the man's few weaknesses. ghetsis is also aware that he's aware of it and hop raging mad about it but won't give him the satisfaction of letting him know that. so it's not shipping them at all technically and just them big braining each other forever because ghetsis let slip one human emotion in his entire life and now they're both going to be rotten about it

About your tags: is there more that you can share about the OW fandom and fics? This was a phenomenon I wonder about too. It was one of the most popular fandoms around 2017-2018, but the way the fandom stopped on its tracks around 2019 was hard not to notice. Especially from people who didn't play the game but were aware of it's fandom.

oh! overwatch is one of about 50-ish fandoms i track for this one spreadsheet project i do as a hobby (which i Technically blog about @fandom-data-scientist, but i've been too lazy to do a proper writeup to explain what the hell it is i do), wherein i try to answer the age-old question: when did the weebs move to ao3?

(the answer is late 2015/early 2016. most likely this was in large part a result of undertale and sports anime, but that's currently just my own conjecture)

According To My Research(tm), the overwatch fandom peaked in late 2016/early 2017 when it comes to the number of new fics posted per month. after this, it declined quite rapidly, as it didn't even get to enjoy a plateau period.

(there's a reason why the plots are really wonky towards the end of this graph-- it's bc i found the past dates for number of fics archived to a particular site via the wayback machine. since those snapshots are typically bot crawls, the number of fics shown on the fandoms listings will not include fics that have been archive-locked. although i technically started this project in august 2022, i did not add overwatch to my tracking list until this june/july or so. my current guess for the small uptick in the rate of ow fics published to ao3 in october 2022 is that the sequel came out? and then the rate plunged for january 2023 bc of the ai scraping scare that happened at around that time-- nearly every single fandom i track had a significant drop right then bc everyone was archive-locking their fics. the rate shooting up in like july 2023 on this chart is bc like i said, that's when i added ow to my list of tracked fandoms; because i'm logged into my own ao3 acct when checking these numbers live, i get access to the archive-locked fics and so the display number goes up.)

in my experience, fandoms will generally kind of plateau in their fic production after their peak, which will ofc normally gradually taper off. games that receive regular lore or story updates probably have fairly long or stable plateaus, although i haven't made scatterplots or made any comparing analyses to prove this rigorously. this plateau period generally represents a time of fandom stability as the fair-weather, casual, or migratory slash fans run off to the next big thing.

if we ignore the fact the plague and quarantine happened, we can see a nice, steady, and very consistent plateau period for the danganronpa fandom from about 2018-2020!

let's look at an older fandom, like my archnemesis final fantasy:

granted, the ao3 numbers are kind of all over the place these days, but you kind of get my point by now, right? that healthy fandoms tend to plateau as the wind carries away the faintly-interested and leaves the long-haulers behind to form their communities.

overwatch struck me as unusual when i was on one of my long wayback machine trips because of the way there was a net increase of only two fics published from 1 july 2021 to 1 october 2021, when before then it had usually been in the hundreds or so. i then went on a work tangent n googled around n more or less concluded it had Something to do with some kind of scandal with the development company, but otherwise i don't really have any more comments on it hahaha.

me when i make a spreadsheet of every single bts song (from group albums) and assign each song a category based on theme/message and then calculate how many songs are in each category and what total percentage of bts songs each category makes up

#my autism levels are off the charts #fr though it was fun i actually did most of the categorizing a couple months ago i just finally got around to Calculating Stuff tonight #(while acknowledging that my categories are subjective and open to interpretation i did my best to reflect the essences of the songs) #anyway according to my calculations the top 3 categories/themes of bts songs are: #reflective/confessional at ~24%; love (romantic) at ~21%; love (general) at ~10% #that last category is for songs where the relationship to the subject is either not directly specified or is platonic #it does include some songs which are often interpreted through a romantic lens #but the lyrics don't directly reference romantic love and they could easily be applied to any type of close relationship #despite these songs commonly being known as romantic i have also seen many people talk about how #the lyrics of those songs reminded them not of a romantic partner but of a close friend or family member or even the love between bts+army #so i wanted a category for songs that acknowledge the intensity/importance of love that's not necessarily romantic #for me this whole thing really just hammered home the fact that categorizing and quantifying non-numerical data is really fucking hard #if anyone is as nerdy as i am and wants to hear more about this i will gladly provide btw im really nice #aeron.txt

Listen. Probably my favorite thing about The Terror is that because the story is one planned out season, the arcs and parallel scenes are set up so cleanly and nicely that it echos.
