Let It Out
|Summary: Everyone grieves differently. Some just try to not grieve at all. After the death of your sibling, you try not to grieve at all
|Pairing: Wandanat x reader |Word Count: 1,111
|Warnings: Death of loved one, not eating, depression, nightmares, blood, getting shot
You felt numb. There was too much happening, and you wanted to leave it all behind. You wanted comfort, but it scared you to ask for it.
It started as a fun mission. You and your sibling were excited, as it was your first mission together.
What you weren’t ready for was to be holding them as blood poured out of their stomach. You couldn’t even cry. There was too much shock going through your body. You hadn’t even noticed you also got hit until Wanda pulled you away and started pressing down on your wound. Nat did the same for your sibling, but it was already too late.
Wanda was speaking, but you weren’t listening. The ringing in your ear was too loud and you just remember shutting your eyes, hoping you would also die.
That didn’t happen. You woke up a day later hooked up to iv’s. Your groaning made Wanda and Nat wake up. They quickly crowded and fussed over you. All you could think about was your sibling.
“Their dead?” You rasped out, making them look at you sadly. “Yeah baby” Wanda said. She stroked your hair. They were expecting you to break down, but you didn’t. You asked for water and went on like nothing. You didn’t react as everyone kept coming into the room. “Sorry for your loss,” they said. All the headlines were talking about your sibling.
"Losing an avenger" it read, it had popped up when you turned on the tv and Wanda quickly changed it. During the time you spent in the medical wing, you refused to eat. It was to punish yourself. ‘It should’ve been you’, you kept telling yourself in your head. On the fourth day, Nat had finally threatened you with the feeding tube.
You agreed and let Wanda feed you. You hated how overbearing they were. You wanted to be left alone, but you were afraid they would be next if they left your side. When you got out of the medical room, you were actually happy for once. You were going on with your day as normal, but Tony stopped you.
“I didn’t want to make any funeral plans without your input. You were their only family, after all. Do you want to make a speech?” you shut down once again. “No. No speech,” you mumbled and walked away. Tony looked on sadly. Nat had ranted to him about how you were so distant. You didn’t talk, you didn’t eat, when you slept you woke up because of a nightmare. He suggested therapy, but that was something you hated. You always got mad at Wanda and Nat when they suggested therapy.
They always did because of the nightmares you always had in the beginning and your guys' relationship. They had stopped for some time, but now they were returning. You were also avoiding them. You mostly did archery with Clint and Kate. They were the only ones that weren’t treating you like glass.
You weren’t even planning on going to the funeral. Wanda and Nat were getting changed, and you laid there not wanting to get up. You stared at the wall and closed your eyes, hoping to sleep.
“Come on, detka” Wanda said sadly as she pulled you out of bed. You didn’t fight her, knowing she was stronger anyway. You let her lead you to the bath that Nat had already started. She gently removed your clothing, and you got into the bath. She washed you gently and with so much care. You wanted to cry right there, but you couldn’t. Wanda noticed and smiled at you sadly. Nat was in the other room getting your clothes ready.
When you got up, they wrapped you in a fluffy towel and helped you get changed. “Everything will be fine darling” Wanda comforted as she felt your mind going crazy. You were so anxious for some reason. It was an open casket, but you didn’t dare go near it.
You were the first to leave after the funeral. Everyone stayed to say their final goodbye, but you left. Wanda and Nat were about to go after you, but Clint held them back. “She needs time to herself,” he told them. After a while, they went to the room. They found you there playing video games still in the funeral clothes. Your laptop was open and there was a picture of you and your sibling there.
“Baby girl. Why don’t you change into some comfy clothes” Wanda gently said, you looked up and your eyes were red. You had been crying. “Sorry,” you mumbled as you turned off the game and closed the laptop.
“Y/n. Baby girl,” Nat said softly as they watched you change into comfortable clothes. “You can’t keep going on like this. You can’t ignore your feelings,” she said and watched as you froze for a bit but quickly went back to what you were doing. You sat on the bed and leaned on the head of the bed. They followed as they quickly got into pajamas and went onto either side of you.
“I’m fine,” your voice cracked. Nat stroked back your hair as more tears started falling. “What do you need?” Wanda asked as she held your hand and rubbed your thigh. “I... I need you guys to hold me,” you sobbed. Wanda was quick to pull you into a hug.
You clinged to her like she was going to disappear. “Don’t leave me too,” you sobbed. They gently shushed you as Nat rubbed your back and spooned you from behind. You all laid down and your head was stuffed in Wanda’s chest as you kept sobbing.
The water gates had finally opened, and it seemed like it would never close. All the emotions and stress you had for weeks were finally being let out.
“Detka, we’re never going to leave you,” Wanda whispered, and she pulled you closer. Nat and Wanda looked at each other over your head sadly.
They didn’t even know what to do. Your eyes started to droop and Wanda pulled back a bit to see your face, that was all red. “My love, will you consider going to therapy? I know you don’t like it, but I think it’ll really help right now,” Wanda asked softly and smiled a bit as you snuggled into her chest again.
“Okay,” you said sleepily. They smiled as your breathing evened out. They stayed up for a couple more minutes to watch over you and fell asleep holding you close. They knew it was going to be a huge healing process, but they were going to be by your side for all of it.

🐾🐾 Boop! Boop! 🐾🐾
I'd love to know what simmer has got you hooked right now! Please share what you're binge-reading on Simblr!
Share this with other simmers to get some recommendations on who to follow! Let's keep spreading some love! 💚
This list is going to be long. :') SORRY BUT NOT SORRY. And I'm sure I'll be missing people here.
There are a lot of stories I have started reading in the middle of it and intend to catch up the beginning of them. But I can instantly get hooked on so many stories, as long as someone puts "previous | next" buttons, I'm in danger of falling into a story's universe. (I also have the hardest time to follow everyone but I try to.)
@matchalovertrait (OF COURSE YOU) I still need to catch up before I met sassy toddler Dulce. I can't believe she's a preteen now. I do enjoy following people's legacy challenges and I like how I forget that it's one with how you really create your own storylines around the base requirements.
@ice-creamforbreakfast I'm not going to lie, I came for the CC, I stayed for the BACC challenge and I am now following the Romano legacy.
@gooretrait I really do love following legacy challenges. Also, console player?? It's also a good reminder of all the fun you can get without cc and mods, just very inspiring imagination-wise.
@eurosimmer breaks the fourth wall in her captions and it's hilarious to me. It's also a legacy challenge, but oh boy I forget it everytime.
@pleasanttaleswithkaityb completely changed my way of playing! (and also of sharing content on tumblr) I also have a soft spot for taking townies as a base, because we kind of all know the backstories for them a bit. (I say that and I never played Sims 2, just binge-watched Sims lore videos.) I love how people change their stories.
@ruthplaysthesims Talking about appropriating Sims townies and make them evolve, I LOVE Kaori's story. In TS4 we all know the lore is meh (with it being on supposedly another timeline etc). The Mt. Komorebi storyline is SO interesting, I really have to play in that world someday without ruining them all. And somehow, Ruth made it even more interesting! Like I already wanted to know more about them, now I'm looking for any little bit of detail referencing their childhood or something. Anyway I highly recommend, I love all the new stories she put out as well (Raina 💖)
@kamiiri Back to other Sims lore game, I LOVE Strange! I watched a LP of Sims 2 on PS very recently and somehow found Strange at the same time... The setting, the weaving of all the storylines together, continuing all of them together... I love it. It's also very cinematic I'd say? There's something in those screenshots, I love it.
@holocene-sims One day I saw a notification of them and next thing you know I was trying to read everything about Grant from the start on mobile (but it's hard to read on mobile so I have A LOT to catch up). So now I'm catching up the recent story posts! But as I'm writing this post, I know I have a lot to catch up already.
@cinamun Add it to the list of "I should really read the beginning of it but for now I'll just keep on trying to catch any post they make", Things Fall Apart's universe has really sucked me in and I really like how cinamun interacts with everyone! (I admit I am a lurker but I want to try this lemon pepper wings recipe someday and share them with all the readers.) Reading TFA really gives me the vibes of watching a daily evening TV show with my family: we did not necessarily watch since the beginning, we just one day started watching all together, and now we're eating dinner in front of it every night. (And of course sharing our reactions)
@havenroyals If you like some spice and love messy stuffs, you'll be served. I also really like the Gossip queen edits it's just such an interesting way to add variation to tell stories.
@theroyalsims In the same vein of the Gossip Queen edits, I really like how we follow the story of the royal families with articles about them and not from their direct point of view. (I'm also currently trying to guess who is getting married soon because I know there is a royal wedding soon among those sims.)
OK small pause because we've entered the royal simblrs that I follow. There are a lot, it's how I found the simblr community in the first place. One thing I have to say is that I love all the collabs people do, the way so many stories are interconnected through everyone's sim and I genuinely think it's a lovely community (even if I'm not part of it myself as I'm just a reader).
@sosa-royals is the first royal simblr I came across and read everything. The drama? I LOVED it.
@officalroyalsofpierreland After meeting child Maria Aisha I had to learn more about her family. I was not disappointed.
@funkyllama this inevitably led me to want to learn more about the Ionian Union and I really like the world building in general? Also those last edits? I love it.
@empiredesimparte of course there is the complete Europeansim on my list. I particularly enjoy reading in French sometimes when my mind just wants to rest from reading in English. I also love Hortense and everytime I see a big event in the story I would be like: "oh J'AI LA REF ! It really looks like in real life." (you are very talented at building). And in general, I really recommend the worldbuilding tag? Because I love it?
@anachrosims' @prydainroyals Talking about someone talented at building? Yeah, I still have to catch up from the beginning. But this one should be feasible as it is more recent? (I don't know, you're also a good writer, PLEASE tell me what you can't do.)
@nexility-sims Among stories that are easy to start digging in someone's universe, I would recommend reading 1992. Eventually I'll read the story it's a spin-off of and @/armoricaroyalty's story, but yeah. My list of stories to catch up is already long for now.
@trentonsimblr and @ardeney-sims I'm putting both of them in the same bullet point because I've been wanting to enjoy their stories for a while and only decided to fully commit when Between A Rock and A Hard Place started. Similarly to 1992, it can be enjoyed without having the whole back story but yeah. I'll definitely enjoy reading the back stories of main characters and "side" characters (which you see glimpses of in BRHP).
@thegrimalldis Very similarly to the previous bullet points, I started reading with a "spinoff", the prequel "Maximilian" rather than the main story after seeing the username a lot of times. I have since caught up the main story I believe, but I may have to reread to be sure. I also have to read the story of succession (because it's complete and I like complete stories).
@theroyalthornoliachronicles and if we have to go back in time, I would highly suggest Ali's story! Though I can't wait to see modern Thornolian generations? 👀 Also, I'm a reader from after Ali lost her blog and I would say now is the best time to start reading if you're like me and have a massive TBR pile, since we're at chapter one!
OK I think I had most of my currently followed stories. I'm 100% missing people but I will try to reblog more of people's stories so you all can see what I'm reading at the moment!
Did this post take me two hours because I'm catching up on reading WHILE answering? Yes.

wow one thing i love so Much about the Guys is that they’re all aware of their situation, one way or another. it’s such a cool little detail.
Red guy is the most obvious, being aware that he’s stuck. he wants out, he wants change. he might be the most aware of just how bad things are. he is constantly associated with testing things, even in the web series. in Love, when Yellow runs off, he says,
“He seems upset about something. I wonder what will happen.”
and again in Dreams, when he pulls the plug on the Computer,
“I wonder what will happen”
so right from the beginning, Red is associated with change. and in the tv series, he begins to start fighting back agains the Loop and the House, claiming several times that he wants to leave, that he wants a change.
we get to see this a lot in Transportation, pretty much through the whole episode. but when he’s telling Yellow about the neighbors, he makes a comment (though severely muffled due to Yellow’s daydream) about how their stuff won’t come to life anymore when they escape. and during his breakdown, he starts yelling at Duck that Groton and Hovris always end up back at home at the start of the next episode. it’s pretty clear that he’s actually talking about their life. and Red is desperate to get out of there.
he is aware, to some degree, that he is caught in a Loop.
Duck is different. Duck is aware that he is being watched. he knows to some extent that his actions are being documented. Duck is constantly associated with screens, and you can see more in this post and this post as well about how he breaks the fourth wall quite a few times, and is evidently the most accepting of their world, almost to an unhealthy extent.
so Duck is aware of an audience’s presence.
Yellow guy is aware of missing.
he doesn’t know what- probably a side effect of his old batteries. but he makes so many off handed comments through the show that truly make so much sense… he totally has a better grasp at what’s going on above the Guys then Duck and Red do. in Electricity, when Duck asks for help finding ‘the opposite of down. two letters.’ (which is clearly up) Yellow says,
“it’s when you can’t remember that over the top of you, there are… bigger ones, that are bigger, and bigger, and over the top of it there’s a smaller one and all of it, at the top of that.”
which is an exact description of what you find if you go up the stairs.
we know he’s done it before. based on the photo on the stairwell and Leslie’s comment about waiting for him, this obviously happens frequently. and i’m assuming that Yellow’s batteries get taken in most Loops, too. that’s why the other Guys haven’t read the Book yet.
Smart Yellow also makes it clear that he’s aware of his memory being messed with, and starts questioning the Loop and the Teachers (which Duck hates)
but Regular Yellow retains the memory of climbing the stairs. not by much, but enough to connect it with the word ‘up’ when he’s got no batteries and is already being controlled by whatever is keeping them in the House.
so Yellow is aware of the bigger picture, and of missing memories.
i just think it’s really cool to make all of them know that something is Wrong, but they’re too stubborn to just fucking talk to each other and maybe even escape

TC tag game Thank you for the questions and for tagging me @renaultphile Rules: Answer the questions and tag other TC fans
"He would not fucking say that" only they did and it's canon. When/who?
I don’t think I’ve read it enough to have a sense of something like this. I really disliked Laurie’s scenes with Adrian though. So it’s not so much ‘he wouldn’t say that’ as ‘I would prefer to ignore the fact that he said/did that.'
2. Did they kiss in the study? Yes/no + why you are 100% correct about this.
I think they did. The first time I read it, I didn't really wonder if something had happened, only what had happened: I didn’t know if they’d only kissed or done anything more. Later, it seemed to be confirmed by Ralph’s letter that they’d not done ‘anything more,’ I just assumed it was a kiss, and I don’t really think the dialogue following the ellipses makes much sense without anything having happened. “Now you see what I mean, Spud. It would never have done, would it? Well, goodbye.” What could Laurie have seen if there was nothing besides a hug or handshake or something? What would never have done? Why ask him to ‘come here’ at all?
3. Mandatory question about Ralph's alleged tattoos.
I really don’t think he’d have any, but if he did I think it'd probably be something nautical.
4. 53 vs 59 edition: quote a line or paragraph that is better in the edition you like the least.
I don’t know which of them I read and I definitely haven’t read another addition, so I can’t answer this. Apparently, the earlier one had more detail and dialogue, so if I haven’t I’d love to read it
5. Which TC character would feel right at home here on tumblr dot com?
Sandy, I think he'd be great on here.
6. Tag yourself at Alec's birthday party.
Laurie reading a book or Laurie just at the beginning, sitting around awkwardly, listening to people’s conversations and wondering how on earth he ended up there.
7. Post a TC meme
The first I ever saw (on the Mary Renault tag) and still the funniest to me, I think because I understand it perfectly
Tumblr media
8. Easy to talk about who deserved better. Who deserved worse?
Straike, I hate him with a fiery passion. The man had a dog put down, not because he was sick or anything but simply because he couldn’t be bothered to care for him. Vicar? Ridiculous.
9. You can break the fourth wall (at any point in the novel) and say a single sentence to our protagonist, Laurie Odell. What do you say?
'This is not Ancient Greece, stop being weird,' at the exact moment Andrew is telling him his traumatic life-story and Laurie is preoccupied worrying about Dave. Also related to the question, but not really asked for: if I could I’d also tell Andrew he doesn’t have to feel ashamed of how he feels about Laurie. Well, more accurately, I’d give him a modern copy of ‘Quaker Faith & Practice’ and have the relevant passages highlighted, so I know he won’t miss them. It makes me very sad for both Andrew and Dave that their whole lives could've been very different (and much happier) if they were born four or five generations later.
9. What's a question you have about TC? One you haven't found an answer for yet.
I can't think of any, besides wondering how Mary Renault could've written it because it's so good. I love the use of subtext, the way she describes emotions you've felt before but never would've been able to put into words on your own. In terms of characters and story, I do have a random question about Bunny: was it supposed to be implied that he was a perpetrator of sexual assault? I got that idea when I was reading the car scene between him and Laurie but I was unsure.
I don't know who to tag! I think all of the Charioteer accounts I know have already been tagged, but if anyone hasn't and wants to, I'd love to read your response!

My thoughts on Trolls 3 & that Adam Sandler Lizard movie Leo (and also my thoughts on Wish)
So there's a lot to unpack here; let's start with the most basic, Trolls 3! It's adorable, nothing bad to say about it, good movie to watch with your family! For once I don't have a lot to say about a DreamWorks film, other than it was so cute and funny. I still prefer the first two but this was great and I loved the songs. I thought the 2D scene was a little bit weird my uncle thought the same. Didn't care for the villains' design but Velvet and Veneer were funny! I like how they had colorful lipsticks tho haha XD anyway, I recommend Trolls 3, see it in theaters if you still have time.
As for that Adam Sandler Lizard movie, it was great! It's called "Leo" and it's on Netflix. It kind of gets heavy when Leo finds out that he one year left to live and when he talks to the kids, it's amazing. I love how they tried to show different types of kids and different struggles they had. One girl talked to much, the other girl whose parents were going through a divorce, there was also a boy who was insecure about his voice and another one who was insecure about body hair, and I even liked how they didn't make the rich blonde popular girl be mean, they even showed her struggle too! There was also this one boy whose mom didn't allow him to play outside and be a kid and he had this drone follow him around all the time, and she even made him wear a hazmat suit inside his house which to me, was the most depressing. The part with the teacher, was on and off. I hated her for most of the movie but she even had redemption. The teacher at the beginning was really nice but it was the old lady teacher, idk man I didn't like her for most of the movie but at the end she's okay. I still think characters get redemption way too easily sometimes. Just my opinion... btw the humor was really good! It had that 90's Nickelodeon type of humor (like from CatDog or Rocko's modern life or Angry Beavers). Like, there were a few dirty jokes and just a few fourth wall breaks. Also, the movie had a good message. I wasn't expecting it to be a musical but it was. Let's just say that the songs weren't as good as Under the Boardwalk, but they weren't bad songs. Honestly, I even think the songs in Wish were better but Leo is over all a better movie and has a way better message.
About my opinion on Wish now, I don't recommend you watch it in theaters, unless you're a really wealthy person who can afford to see movies all the time. I mean, in my opinion it's a waste of time and money. It's better to watch it in the comfort of your own home on a free website, don't even watch it on Disney plus. There's a few reasons why but here's one of them https://www.instagram.com/reel/ but the other reason is because I don't think Disney deserves to make a lot of money form this. Part of me feels bad because I LOVE the character design, and the diversity. I feel bad for black girls, they can't get at least one modern Disney princess who from a good movie. Tiana's movie is old and she ends up marrying the dumb hunk prince when she just wanted to be a restaurant owner, Ariel is racebent but she's pretty cool even tho there's a war over her being black, and Asha's a sweet character but her movie doesn't make sense. Like, Wish's plot was all over the place; at first you were kind of on the king's side but they did make him out to be evil enough that you were on Asha's side. The hardest thing for me to understand was that at first she wanted the king to grant everyone's Wish because she wanted her grandpa to be happy since he was 100 years old, then she wanted to get her grandpa and mom's wishes back from the king, and then she wanted everyone to be happy but I was so lost... the only time I laughed was that one song and it showed the bear and the deer, and they called the deer "Bambi" as a joke, but really, it looked like Boog and Elliot from the Open Season franchise. The dancing chickens was pretty funny too, it reminded me of the Flip flop and fly scene in Chicken Run. Honestly, Wish isn't the worst Disney movie ever, but it's not that good. If you're planning on seeing it, know what you're in for. The story was incredibly boring as well, and the background characters barely had any personality or lines but were still cute (I like Asha's friends, especially the plus size girl in the red and also the girl with the yellow dress and blue thing in her hair). And like, the best thing about this movie had to be the character designs. Not only did it show race and skin color diversity, but it showed body type diversity as well! Some shows and movies just show skin color diversity and make the plus size characters the joke (like **cough cough** Total Drama show) but this movie actually have TRUE diversity! It's a shame that the story's a disaster because the designs were a 10/10... as for the story, it's a 4.5/10.
We've come to a conclusion. Watch Leo on Netflix and if you don't have Netflix, you can use kisscartoon, actvid, or whatever other free movie website you have. If you want to watch Wish I don't recommend seeing it in theaters but I'm not stopping you. (Please click the link to the video I sent). Also, Wish is better than most of the old Disney movies, don't go comparing it to peter pan or something, we know that movie's outdated and way worse than Wish. If you're a Trolls fan or just have any interest in seeing Trolls 3, GO SEE TROLLS 3 in theaters! I recommend it! And also, if you have any thoughts, whether you agree or not, just let me know. Even if you have different opinions than me, just let me know!

When you were little, you loved the Hawkins Fourth of July Celebrations; the excitement thrumming in the air, the riot of color and sound that accompanies an entire community celebrating together. The sense of nostalgia and tradition and belonging it gave you.
So why is the holiday making you so damn jumpy this year?
It started at the parade. The lone firework that always erupted at the start of the festivities with a boom like cannon fire set your heart racing every year, but this time it also sent you into a near panic, bumping into the younger cheerleaders you were supposed to be leading in a display of school spirit.
“What’s wrong with you?” One of them hissed.
You tell me, you thought wryly, even as you apologized and pasted a bright smile over your face to get back in formation. People were counting on you, after all, and they would damn sure notice if the captain of the cheer squad was anything less than flawless.
By the time the parade ends and people begin to disperse to barbecues and parties, your face is aching from the skeleton grin you’d forced yourself to wear.
When did pretending to be okay get this hard? You used to be so good at it.
Maybe sometime around the mall fire, and the latest round of grisly deaths in your once sleepy town. No one talks about it but there is something rotten beneath the manicured lawns and bustling Main Street of Hawkins. Something that has you on edge, and feeling like you’re the only one seeing it makes you wonder if you’ve simply lost it, cracking under the pressure of being the town’s pretty, perfect princess.
You’re so wrapped up in these thoughts that you don’t notice how far you’ve wandered from the crowd until a growl rips through the air. It’s a wall of sound - music, you realize once an electric guitar wails to life. It’s coming from a radio set back in the shadowy bay of a mechanic shop, the volume cranked loud enough for the bass and lyrics to bleed onto the street. It’s a howling, furious clamor, but something in it soothes your soul, calling to the restless spirit within. It’s a call to battle and you surprise yourself by thrilling to it.
You take a closer to the music, so caught up in the moment that you collide with someone inside the shop, barely catching a glimpse of them as you do. Just a quick impression of wild, dark hair tumbling over a startled face, doe-eyed and full-lipped. Eddie Munson, you realize as you draw a steadying breath.
“Shit!” He jumps back, looking as startled as you, his soft brown eyes widening even more when recognition dawns. When it takes you a moment to recover, your nerves still jangling from the glare of the festivities, he cocks his head, watching you carefully.
“Hey, hey, it’s okay. I didn’t mean to scare you.” He holds his hands up and takes a half step back, dropping the stereo volume as he goes.
You shake your head, embarrassed. “You’re fine it’s, it’s not you.”
“Did you uh, need something?” He glances over your shoulder as though looking for a broken down car. “The shop’s not really open.”
“Oh, I wasn’t - I was just… walking. I’m surprised you’re working today.”
“Yeah, well, some of us have to work for a living, you know?” There’s an edge to his voice, but he’s looking at his hands as he says it, the comment half muttered as though more to himself than you.
“You should take a break, enjoy the holiday. Everyone else is.”
Eddie chuckles and rolls his eyes. “Oh don’t worry, Mayberry’s doing just fine without me. Besides, I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I’m not exactly the patriotic type.”
“I didn’t feel much like celebrating either.”
He’s looking at you like you’re a mystery to be solved, uncertain if you are friend or foe. You can hardly blame him - your starched, pristine cheerleading outfit clashes with the comfortably worn, grease-streaked jumble inside the garage. The two of you are assessing each other like soldiers on opposite sides of a war that’s been waged since high school began. The haves, the have nots. The popular and the freaks.
The lines weren’t always so harshly drawn.
When the awkward pause becomes oppressive, you venture “What were you listening to before?”
“Black Sabbath,” Eddie replies with a knife-sharp grin, his eyes theatrically wide although you could swear uncertainty still flickers there. “Better be careful. You know what they say: it’s the devil’s music. Could lead to all kinds of mischief.”
You just shrug and turn the radio’s volume back up. “What sort of mischief?”
He raises his eyebrows, amusement and something like admiration creeping into his tone. “What kind are you looking for?”
You bite your lip, unsure, but ask “Do you still deal? I could use something to take the edge off.”
A slow, impressed grin unfurls over his features. “You little rebel!”
He pulls out a battered black metal lunchbox and digs through it, finally coming up with a baggie half full of brownish green weed that looks like it’s several months out from fresh, but will still get you where you need to be.
“I can do… fifteen for the half.” Light catches on his thick silver rings as he offers the bag to you.
Electricity races up your arm when you move to pass him the cash. Despite Eddie’s fierce image, his touch is tender, his palm pressing lightly against your own, and you find yourself reluctant to pull back. Meeting his gaze makes your heart race for the third time today. He’s studying you just as closely - a curious look in his soft brown eyes. It gives you the courage to ask “So, do you have to keep working, or…?”
-
You should be on your way to a party by now. All your friends will be waiting for you. Your varsity-lettered boyfriend too, a few beers in and looking for somewhere to drape his kingly, possessive arm, your shoulders its rightful place.
You should. But instead…
Instead, you’re sharing a joint with Eddie Munson on the swings. The playground is deserted, all the wholesome townspeople off following the script you've left behind, leaving the afternoon sun-drenched park blissfully free, with no one to care how loudly you’re giggling at Eddie’s antics.
He’s standing on the swing beside you, his previously cautious face animated and gleeful now that he’s let his guard down, his hands wrapped around the chains as he recounts his Dungeons and Dragons group’s latest campaign.
“Oh, you should have seen them - warriors to the last. A Dungeon Master’s never been so proud.” His smile falters a little at that and he drops heavily into the swing beside you, his head ducked. “Sorry, I get a little carried away sometimes.”
“I don’t mind. It sounds fun.”
He looks at you skeptically. “I wouldn’t have taken you for the nerdy type, princess.”
Hurt flashes through you and before you can stop yourself, you blurt out “Don’t call me that.”
“Woah, hey, no offense intended.” Eddie lays a hand on his heart, his expression suddenly both open and solemn. “It’s just - “
You cut him off. “That would be like me calling you a freak. That’s all anyone else sees me as.”
As soon as the words are out, you clap your hands over your mouth. “Oh, I didn’t - that was rude, I - “
To your surprise, Eddie just throws his head back and laughs. “Don’t apologize, I was being a shit.” For the first time, he looks completely at ease in your company and his infectious good mood coaxes a smile back onto your face.
“What’s so bad about being a princess, anyway? Some of them are pretty badass.”
“Name three.”
“Princess Leia,” he announces triumphantly. “And…”
You raise an eyebrow as he trails off.
“Okay okay okay, um… Ha, what about Susan and Lucy in the Narnia books? You know, the one with the lion, the witch and the wardrobe?”
“First of all they were queens, and second of all that’s bullshit! Aslan wouldn’t even let them fight in that battle, and when everyone else got swords they just got a horn and a bow. Typical. Their brothers get to go be warriors and they just have to be all polite and ladylike.”
Eddie’s eyebrows have nearly vanished beneath his shaggy bangs. “Wait have you actually read the books?”
The two of you launch into an animated discussion of fantasy books, and how you had loved them as a child until your friends’ changing tastes made you put them aside, feeling like the odd one out for still reading about magic and checking the backs of closets for snowy forests.
By the time you’re finished, Eddie is looking at you almost worshipfully.
Pleased heat creeps up your neck. “What?”
“You are full of surprises, aren’t you, rebel?”
Before you can answer he leaps up and points excitedly at you as though he’s just remembered something. “ÉOWYN. Or, oh, Lúthien! Talk about badass - she went into Morgoth for her love.”
You blink at him sort of apologetically. “Who?”
“Ohh, you haven’t read The Lord of the Rings?”
“No, sorry. Is it good?”
“It’s the best. You’ve read The Hobbit though, right?”
When you shake your head, Eddie takes you by the shoulders, radiating excitement. “Ohh, we need to fix this. I’ll lend you my copy - you’re gonna love it.”
-
Shadows lengthen around you as the two of you talk, the streetlights coming on before either of you run out of things to say. Eddie tells you about his band, about living with his uncle, about working odd jobs to help make ends meet while he finishes school.
You find yourself relaxing in his presence, and not just because of the joint you shared. His enthusiasm lifts your spirits, his walls falling as he tells you about the things he loves - and listens when you do the same. He lights up when you do, the two of you swapping playful teases and reminiscences of middle school.
“I didn’t think you remembered me!”
“Eddie, your band’s name was Corroded Coffin, how was I supposed to forget that?”
“I thought you were too busy practicing that cheer routine. Which I thought was pretty cool, actually.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. And it still is, you know. The band. We’re playing at the Hideout next week, you should come check it out.”
You’re just about to tell him that maybe you will when there’s a shrill whistle through the air, an explosion of red light, and a loud boom. Noticing the way you jump, Eddie shifts to kneel in front of you, peering up at your tense expression.
“Still need something to take the edge off?” He rests his palms lightly on your knees, ready to back off at a moment’s notice. When you nod, your lower lip between your teeth, he only hesitates for a moment before rising to his feet. Eddie offers you his hand, saying “Come on. I know somewhere we can go.”
He leads you through the park and up a steep hill, putting more distance between you and the baseball field where the town’s fireworks display is beginning. His fingers are warm and reassuringly solid in your grasp, his touch grounding you even as it sets your pulse pounding. When you stumble over a nearly invisible rock in the dim twilight, he’s there with a hand under your elbow, courtly and reassuring.
“Come on, almost there.”
He stops near the crown of the hill in front of a small hollow. It’s not quite a cave, but a spot hidden slightly away while still affording an unobstructed view of the fireworks display.
“Oh wow, how did you find this place?”
Eddie shrugs, a pink blush spreading over his cheeks visible even in the low light. “Would you believe me if I said satanic rituals?”
You raise an eyebrow, waiting for the real answer.
“Fiiiiine. I used to play out here and pretend it was my castle.” He tosses his hair as though daring you to tease him, even with a playful look in his eyes.
“Eddie Munson that is adorable.”
“You’re gonna leave my reputation in tatters, aren’t you?”
“I would never.”
The two of you settle beneath the protective overhang and somehow, it feels only natural to lean back against Eddie’s chest while he rests his chin on your head. This far away, you’re able to relax and enjoy the fireworks the way you used to, a glittering display of color and light that instills a sense of wonder rather than anxiety.
Eddie wraps his arms around you in a loose hold and your breath hitches, the air suddenly crackling with possibility. He’s uncharacteristically quiet, like he’s waiting to see what you’ll do next. Without saying anything, you lay one hand over his, playing idly with his cool silver rings. Eddie goes completely still behind you - until he raises the stakes in this unspoken game, winding his fingers with yours, his thumb brushing questioningly against your palm.
You’re so caught up in the moment you don’t even notice how chill the air has turned until Eddie’s warm breath huffs against your cheek.
“You’re shivering. Here.”
You turn to see him shrugging off his black leather jacket. Warmth clings to it, seeping into you when he wraps it around your shoulders. The movement brings him impossibly close, your noses nearly brushing and your breath mingling in the small space.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.”
Neither of you turn back to the fireworks.
Curling his fingers beneath your chin, Eddie tilts your face up to his and breathes your name as though saying it too loudly will break whatever spell brought you into his orbit. “Can I kiss you?”
You know you shouldn’t. There is no version of Hawkins where you can get involved with Eddie Munson without either of breaking every law of high school and small-town expectations. No version of this story that ends with a happy ending.
Well, you’re tired of living in someone else’s story.
“Yeah,” you breathe, already reaching for him. You close the distance between you, the sweet shock of Eddie’s mouth making your lips part in a gasp.
No one has kissed you like this before. Generously. Coaxingly. Sweet enough to make you melt and deep enough to make you moan. Every kiss before has been perfunctory. The hurdle to leap over before the finish line. But Eddie… Eddie kisses you like he craves it. He takes his time, tracing your lower lip with his thumb, seemingly more intent on tasting you and pulling out all those little sighs and gasps you make than getting up your skirt. It’s that leisurely pace that leaves you panting, your eyes bright and your heart beating hummingbird fast. When Eddie doesn’t so much as try to slip a hand up your shirt you draw back, glassy eyed and puzzled.
“Don’t you want to…?” You bite your lip and trail off, embarrassed heat creeping up your neck.
“Jesus Christ,” Eddie groans. He catches your hand, kisses your palm and presses it to his heart so you can feel it racing. “You tell me. Do you want to?”
When you take off your shirt in silent answer, Eddie’s eyes roll back in his head in a mock faint, his back hitting the ground with a low thump. You laugh and lean in to check on him, playing along by ‘slapping’ his cheek. He rolls you over, one hand cupping the back of your head, making you shriek with laughter.
Your laughter fades, softening into silence as you make out the look on his face.
People in this town don’t see you any more. Oh, they may glance your way, but all they’re seeing is the neatly groomed and meticulously crafted version you present. That is, if they even bother looking past your cheerleading outfit. Most don’t.
Eddie Munson is not most people. He looks at you like he would follow you into battle. Like you scattered the stars across the sky. Like he sees you. All your jagged edges and puzzle pieces that just don’t fit, no matter how hard you try to work them into place. He sees them, and accepts them.
You wonder if he has someone who looks at him that way.
Shyly, you lift a hand and run it through his long hair a few times before scraping your nails gently along his scalp. Eddie leans into your touch, eyes half-lidded and a look of contentment on his face.“You’re not what I expected, Munson.”
His grin is a bright flash in the dark. “Neither are you, rebel.”
By the time the fireworks are over, the two of you are grass stained and giggling, half-rising only to tumble back down into kisses you both know won’t really be the “last one, I swear.”
Eventually Eddie sighs and lifts his head from where it’s been resting in your lap. “It’s getting late. I should probably get you home before you turn into a pumpkin.”
There’s a wistful note in his voice and it chimes a hollow ache in you, too. What happens after tonight? The queen of Hawkins high can’t possibly show up in the fall with the town outcast on her arm.
Can you?
You let Eddie pull you to your feet, his jacket a comforting weight on your shoulders as the two of you make your way down the hill and through the dark town. You head for your house, the darkness shielding you from prying eyes and gossiping tongues. It gives you the same thrilling sense of liberation that Halloween used to - the one night in the year you could defy expectations, running freely through the streets with your wind in your hair and a wild laugh on your lips.
Maybe you should play in the dark more often.
Eddie leaves you to your thoughts, your hand in his like he’s afraid someone will spirit you away if he doesn’t. Not tightly or possessively, just… carefully. Intentionally.
When you reach your doorstep, Eddie takes your hand and brings it to his lips.
“Farewell, lady,” he says, the quaint language somehow right in his distinctive cadence. “Morning approaches and I must away.”
He takes a last, lingering look before leaping off your doorstep and sprinting into the night, turning an almost stumble into a theatrical bound and making you laugh with the same surprised delight he’s pulled from you for hours.
“Goodnight,” you murmur, a smile still playing over your lips as you let yourself into the silent house.
-
Eddie lifts his head from where he’s bent over his guitar when a quiet knock rattles the trailer door.
Expecting it to be his uncle, he calls out “Forget something, old man?” He blinks when he pulls open the door, startled not by the bright late morning sunlight but by the sight of you standing on his doorstep. You’ve traded your cheerleading outfit for jean shorts and a t-shirt but otherwise, you’re the girl who’s been pleasantly haunting his dreams.
With a nervous smile, you reply “Yeah, I forgot to borrow that book from you last night. What was it again, The Hobbit?”
Eddie’s astonishment melts into a radiant grin as he steps aside and welcomes you in with a flourish.
To be continued…?

Scream VI Review (since anon asked)
OK. So, the thing about the original Scream movies is that the meta isn’t contained to a couple of info dump scenes where someone explains the rules of the movie they’re in and rattles on about the wider trends in media.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s inherent in the dialogue and in the choices the movies make. Billy is pressuring Sidney to have sex and says that they’re “edited for TV”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and uses film ratings to describe his frustration
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
then when Sidney decides to do something risque, we don’t see it because Scream is “editing their relationship for TV”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
when they discuss who the killer could be, Tatum uses Basic Instinct as an example of how a woman can be a killer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s in the fabric of the movies.
this scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
is like any other scene in a horror movie, it doesn’t have the irony of a scene like this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
because this scene is simultaneously making fun of and paying homage to horror movie tropes with the added layer of Jamie Kennedy going “Jamie watch out” when yelling at the TV because it’s Jamie Lee Curtis onscreen.
Having a shrine with evidence from the other movies in a movie theatre with dialogue like this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
isn’t enough.
Playing Red Right Hand at the end when it played at the beginning of the first movie while the mask burns onscreen isn’t really much of anything, like I think the shot and the callback is great
Tumblr media
especially because it’s as if Richie directed the movie of his sociopathic family dying at the hands of their victims who are the children of Billy, like I get all of that but it didn’t really stay with me because for the most part, Scream VI is a generic horror movie that isn’t funny, which is another problem. The original scream trilogy was also funny.
Like, if you’re talking about things are bigger in a franchise, in keeping with the spirit of Scream, that should be made fun of in this movie, where things get progressively more ridiculous and outrageous and bloody that I laugh out loud,
Because throughout the first three Screams (maybe even the fourth too) there were so many meta jokes that contributed to the irony and the breaking of the fourth wall. Besides Tori Spelling playing Sidney
Tumblr media
after Sidney made a crack about it
Tumblr media
while the clip of Stab makes fun of the choices made in the first Scream movie, thereby poking fun at Tori Spelling as well as at themselves
Tumblr media Tumblr media
with LUKE WILSON playing Billy??
There are also things like, at the time, David Arquette (who plays Dewey) and Courtney Cox were together so having him say this line referencing David Schwimmer who is Courtney’s onscreen brother in Friends is like haha
Tumblr media
The thesis of this installment is character assassination
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it’s done in such a generic way and it would’ve been more interesting to really lean into how serial killers are immortalized and glamorized in society and the victims have to fight to be heard but ANYWAY when Scream 2 wanted to make a commentary on being desensitized to real world violence because of film, and the way reality and fiction bleed together, it does it in a very ham-handed way but it’s outrageous and entertaining and still rooted in film
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the debate happens in the first 20 minutes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the debate about sequels doesn’t stay within the confines of the Scream/Stab universe
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they actually pay homage to other movies as characters
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and I think the fact that the Scream franchise was also a franchise in love with movies, which made it fun and witty and smart got lost when KW stopped writing for the movies, which is why I’m always “meh” about them now. Like the villains of this one are a family of serial killers and NO ONE is going to mention Texas Chainsaw Massacre??
Tumblr media
Man, I miss my meta.

Quick preface before I get into this- This is an add-on to a previous thread about ORV, linked HERE. You won’t need to read it to understand this post, but you can if you want! if you’re looking for a better look at ORV as an allegory for trauma, I’d recommend @bidokja’s blog. He’s the one that clued me into these themes in the first place, and he’s really good at explaining them! I’m going to do my best here, but I won’t be able to cover everything.
So! Stories in ORV have a dual role– they’re both a way to cope with trauma and a traumatizing cycle. I’ll be talking about the former here- I might make another post later about the latter, but It won’t fit into this one.
ORV has a LOT to say about trauma– specifically, about the ways that people cope with it. And not all of these are directly related to stories! We have the Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World, for example- Regressors, Returnees, and Reincarnators. These, like stories, are both a way to cope with trauma and the trauma itself. Yjh’s regressions let him change the traumatic events of previous rounds (kinda sorta- he can’t actually rewrite things, but the concept of saving everyone does let him cope), but they also trap him in a nightmarish cycle of watching everyone he loves die over and over again (hey! PTSD much?). The returnees get to escape their trauma on Earth, but they’re unable to interact with their loved ones (hey look! dissociation!). Nirvana’s reincarnation lets him live unfettered by the past, but they trap him in an eternal ‘present’ (I didn’t write this one too well…). There’s also the ‘past, present, future’ thing, but I’ll spare you the rant on that for now.
Stories are introduced to the fray with the ‘author, reader, protagonist’ bit. The character’s connections to the story serve both as a way to cope with trauma, and as a shackle of sorts that chains them to the narrative. They also line up nicely with our other coping mechanisms! Our protagonist, who has the power of regression, tends to live in the past (his previous rounds). His protagonist status gives him ‘plot armor’, in a way- but it also traps him as the focal point of a horrible tragedy. The reader, who is a returnee, tends to live in the future (what with all his constant planning). His knowledge as the reader gives him a leg up in planning and understanding the characters, but it also traps him behind the fourth wall as an observer (remember Uriel’s ‘most powerless god’ line? Yeah, that.) The author, who isn’t technically a reincarnator but I think Avatar counts, lives in the moment. Her privilege as the author gives her the ability to write her own story, but it leaves her at the mercy of her audience (the editors, the constellations). And it’s only together that they can break the cycles of tragedy they’re trapped in. I have so many thoughts about this, but I’m going to skip straight to what I was talking about in my OG post. (quick thing to remember, though- none of our characters use just one of these coping mechanisms. Hsy is also a reader, Kdj is also a protagonist, Yjh is also an author.)
Now, in my Og post, I was talking about the way the past is portrayed in ORV. The original novel, for example, has already happened by the beginning of ORV- and because the past (specifically, reliving it) has links to the themes of overcoming trauma, we can look at it to determine what ORV is trying to say about how you overcome a traumatic past.
It would have been easy for Sing-Shong to have KimCom undo the tragedies in WoS, but they don’t. WoS still happens in its entirety- and this is for a reason! In ORV, the past isn’t something you can change. Because Kdj has read WoS, because Hsy has written it, because Yjh has lived it- WoS will never go away. Because trauma doesn’t go away. You can’t just resurrect dead family members, or undo bullying, or anything of the sort. It will always have happened. But what you can do is move forward. WoS still happened, but everyone was there to pick up the pieces. Everyone from WoS is saved- the outer gods, secretive plotter, the characters from the 999th round.
Whew! That was a long post… I still have SO MUCH MORE to say, though. I barely even scratched the surface of Orv! I’ve barely talked about the ‘reader, author, protagonist’ thing, or the future/the present– hell, I barely even MENTIONED stories as trauma! But I think I did pretty ok talking about the themes needed for my OG post, so I think I’ll leave the rest up for later conversations. I’m super glad @mae-i-scribble added her comments! I really didn’t elaborate enough originally..

your essay about the use of abuse to cement power in the Captive prince series is wonderful. You make a number of excellent points and tied together quite a few parallels that I hadn't caught before.
You and others have written such superb analyses, commentary, and exploration of aspects of the books that I wish the fandom had a commonly agreed on tag so that one could easily find these again. Like, I don't know, #capri essay, or #capri analysis, or ...? I don't see that that will ever happen, but boy it would be nice. I really enjoyed yours. I had several, "yes!" Moments while reading, "oh of course!" And "OMG that makes so much sense" (and of course the usual "how did I not notice that?")
Thank you so much!! I’m really glad it read cohesively for you, and that it brought some new links to light. I’m a firm believer in literary discussion viewing the micro in relation to the macro — not removing quotes from context or viewing them in isolation, but trying to understand the patterns formed across the text as a whole. What I posted is only really a beginning point; I deliberately only drew from book one, but oof if I had the time and energy I’d love to write about how the theme develops across the other two books, especially in relation to how it impacts on Damen and Laurent differently. I did kind of talk about Damen’s trauma and its narrative role in another ask, but there is soooooo much more I could say about that.
In regards to finding posts of people talking about the books, a lot of people use “#captive prince meta” as the tag, but. I have a pretentious protest against the term “meta” so I refuse 😂
“Metatextual” is a term used to describe a text that is self-referential, i.e. when a text comments on itself. For example, a play or film having a character break the fourth wall is a metatextual device.
“Metatextuality” is a broader term that refers to these in-text references, as well as intertextuality, i.e. texts that make reference to other texts or comment on other texts. For example, Jane Austen mentioning specific gothic novels in Northanger Abbey, or even the San Francisco vampire bar in Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles being called Dracula’s Daughter, are examples of metatextuality. A TV show like Kevin Can Go Fuck Himself, which comments on and critiques the sitcom genre, is an example of metatextuality. They’re terms that refer to the construction of literature and other media, not literary criticism — so it doesn’t make sense to me to call analysis posts on tumblr dot com “meta,” because they are commentary or criticism (as in opinion and analysis, not badmouthing) and not part of the original text itself.
WHICH IS NOT WHAT YOU ASKED AT ALL jfc I got so carried away 😂😂😂 this is just a specific bugbear I have and I couldn’t help myself hahahaha I’m so sorry
But you may find what you’re looking for in the “#captive prince meta” tag, which is probably used by people less cunty than me 😂
Also if there is anything that you (or anyone) want to ask my opinion on, or want to know how I read/interpret it, feel free to ask! I can’t guarantee my reply will be speedy, but as you can tell. I love to ramble about books 🤡

my thoughts on v/h/s (2012)
v/h/s is a found footage horror movie about a group of comically evil clockwork orange esque freaks who are hired to break into a house and steal a single vhs tape from it. this is fine and i think it's a good premise for a movie. The problem lies with quite literally everything past the opening credits.
The first five or so minutes are just an introduction to our robbers, and shows off not only that they love to sexually assault women in public, but also have an affinity for saying the n word.
They get into the house and don't find the tape they want, but many, many more. So they start looking through them.
The first tape is from the pov of glasses with a camera in them. A man joins his friends on a night out, with the intention of having sex and secretly recording it. One particular woman seems attached to him specifically. when they get back to the hotel, everybody but these two (+ a cuck who says the n word AGAIN) start fucking. When he doesn't want to go through with it, one of the other guys (who had to stop because his partner fell asleep) takes over, and you think this guy recording is about to get cucked when she bites the *fuck* out of one of the guys. and then goes on a nude rampage, killing our cuck last . If you don't like the exploitation of women i suggest you stop reading now.
The second tape is of a man and a woman on a roadtrip. They stop at a hotel for a night, the guy tries to push his girlfriend to do sexual things while he's recording, she says no, and then there's a knock on the door. It's a strange woman who wants a ride, specifically in the morning. He says no. They go to sleep. The woman sneaks in, steals 100$ from the guy's wallet, dips his toothbrush in the toilet, and rubs the girlfriend's ass with a switchblade. the next night, the woman comes in and stabs the guy repeatedly in the throat while he's asleep. The camera cuts to the woman in the bathroom, cleaning the blade while making out with the girlfriend.
The third tape is of four friends going on a roadtrip to a lake. I'm gonna be real with you because idk what to put here this one is just people sitting and fucking talking until this glitch in the recording starts killing people. More women get unnecessarily sexualized but after one of the guys gets rejected he turns to the other and asks "you would fuck me, right?" to which the other says "yeah, probably". Diversity win i think.
The fourth tape is of a man on a video call with his ... i think girlfriend?? when she starts having weird things happen to her body and starts seeing strange things in her house. I'm gonna save you the details because in execution, this is just bad skinamarink. It turns out that the weird things happening in her body were alien babies. the strange things in her house were aliens, sticking around to use her as an incubator.
The fifth tape is the only one worth watching, which is very sad considering it starts roughly an hour and a half into the 2 hour movie. Anyway the fifth tape is of another four friends going to a halloween party, only they make a wrong turn and end up at a different, seemingly vacant house. They start going through, thinking it's a haunted house, when vague silhouettes start appearing and hands start reaching out of the walls. They go upstairs into the attic, where an exorcism is being performed on a woman tied to the wall. They think it's part of the attraction, and join in with the chanting. They get forced back downstairs before hearing her start screaming, and then they run back up and rescue her. After freeing her, the people previously exorcising her get thrown across the room and into the ceiling, and they all run out as the house begins warping and twisting to trap them inside. In the car, the girl disappears and the car dies. the doors lock, and she reappears in front of it. A train horn sounds, and it's revealed that they're sitting directly on the tracks. You can probably infer what happens next. HOWEVER, there IS an alternate (supposedly canon?) ending where they escape the car. Very funny. here's that .

Just came back from seeing Barbie at the theater ! impressions / spoilers under the cut
the visual / touch sense at the beginning was incredible. Some kind of madeleine de proust some kind of 'i now this in 3d but not in 2d' and 'reverse miniature : i know them little but here they're so big' ! the plastic feeling is great. very curious if it's all real plastic or what. really looked like that low quality from before
the Barbie's brushing their hair with the big brush... loved it. a lot of giddy feeling from the memory sense of my childhood (didn't have a lot but had one or two set maybe once ? and then alone barbies)
i did like the diversity shown here and there - maybe it's tokenism i don't know but i was still happy to see them at the moment
i didn't laugh a lot (compared to one of the friends i went with who i heard surprise laugh a lot of times, which made me glad) but i'm not too big on comedy / this kind of comedy so. sometimes i went "eh" and waited for the story to continue
was a bit confused at times cause i wasn't too sure where the story was going at some point. Like were we about barbie discovering herself or was it the kendom. Also some bits were very satirical but some where not and sometimes i wasn't too sure where we were at ?? the "messages" seemed to shift a lot sometimes or be kinda contradictory / saying one thing and showing something else. tbh i'm not great at meta and this kind of thinking in general so i just know it wasn't clear enough for me or they just dropped the ball on some things
i cried like threeee times ok. the emotional / slow part about humanity and discovering life and knowing who you are just. went Deep in the kokoro. when she's on the bus bench discovering life.... the old lady... man i'm tearing up just thinking about it again. the end of the movie (before the joke, actually i'm kinda disappointed about the joke because it's funny but i was just still so into the Just Existing Makes You Human You Don't Need Permission that i wasn't in the right state of mind)
i did like the acting of barbie, there is some scene where her face acting was subtle but clear (like when she talks to ken at the end and realise what she's saying at the same time also applies for her) and i really like this kind of acting
the meta + breaking of fourth wall + narrator i liked a lot
still not sure how i feel about the patri'arc'at (get it), and even the resolution of it, but the beach battle and the danse i like a lot
ACTUALLY THE CAR CHASE. the car chase was great ??? i really liked the music (actually all the music in the movie tbh) and the lady (does she has a name ????) just going full on let's do this bitch. it was really nice.
the moment of recognition between the lady and barbie... right in the kokoro. i loved the actress, her character, how she reconnects with her daughter. man her monologue was good. loved the fact that there was zero music for the whole scene, people forget how good no music / sounds can add to a scene.
so barbie apologise for neglecting him but he doesn't apologise for patriarcing the world :/ but the reverse (ken in a world of barbies) is also not talked about besides a parting shot from the narrator. meh.
i had other things i thought but right now i forgot them. so yeah basically it felt a little like they tried to have three different movies in one, and it makes it uneven at times / overall, but there was some really good parts (well, to my likings at least) so i'm still glad i went to see it !
Eta to add : SCREAMS ABOUT BBC PRIDE AND PREJUDICE LOL. i think i was one of the only one who laughed a lot at that moment. i'm no depressive barbie but oh boy have i watched bbc pride and prejudice (1995) a LOT. literally i saw the bit in the movie last week.

Greetings and first review: Old-fashioned Cupcake (2022)
Hello everyone. My name is Nico, and I’m an avid consumer of BL content. For those who accidentally found this blog and don’t know what I’m talking about, BL stands for “Boys Love”, which is a genre of books, movies or TV series that portraits romance between two men. I’ve been defying (and enjoying!) the world of BL for about 8 years and yes, I’ve watched and read a lot of them and have been keeping my opinions to myself… until now! I thought that it might be fun to talk about some BLs I liked or disliked, make friends, and, perhaps, spread the word of this amazing genre (lol). Anyway, that being the case, I would like to start this blog doing a review about the very last BL I watched: Old-Fashioned Cupcake (2022).
Tumblr media
Old-Fashioned Cupcake is a Japanese BL starring Takeda Kouhei as Nozue, a 39 year old guy who is too comfortable with his unchangeable routine and is not willing to take new risks and challenges, and Kimura Tatsunari as Togawa, Nozue’s 29 year old subordinate, who has a crush on his boss and a lot to teach about enjoying the good things in life. One day, the two of them are working together and decide to take a break after a meeting with a client. They sit on a bench at a park and two teenage girls are next to them, giggling and chatting happily. Looking at them, Nozue starts to talk about how girls always seem to be truly happy and excited, unlike boys, who can’t be like that even if they’re very young. Togawa, who notices that his boss is stuck in a routine, suggests that they could pretend to be girls together. And that’s when things start to get interesting, but before we continue, the following paragraphs contain spoilers, so beware of that!
Well, of course Nozue likes the idea and they start to play pretend, doing what they called “anti-aging activities”: going out to cafés, eating nice pancakes and having intimate conversations. As they are spending their time together, Nozue starts to enjoy trying different things little by little: first, he tries a smoothie instead of his regular coffee, then, he invites his co-workers to lunch. He even changes his old foldable phone to a new smartphone. At the same time, Togawa’s urge to confess his feelings grows stronger and stronger.
This dynamic continues until the climax, in the fourth episode, when the two characters sleep at Togawa’s house after an intense blind date. In the morning, after a really deep conversation about how they felt about each other, Togawa pushes Nozue into a wall and they kiss - and damn, what a kiss! Honestly, this is the best kiss in a Japanese BL since Cherry Magic. Anyway, Togawa declares his love for Nozue, but he thinks it is unreciprocated, so he apologizes. Nozue leaves the house and for the next few weeks, they start to avoid each other. At this point of the series, we have the most crucial moment for Nozue, because the whole conflict was about how he was afraid of changing and taking risks. Looking through his memories, Nozue realizes that trying new things with Togawa made him happy and that if he decided to live passively like he used to, these types of moments would never happen again. He would lose Togawa forever and that would be a heavy price to pay.
Thankfully, after fighting back against his demons, Nozue finally decides to confess his love for Togawa, giving himself a chance to be happy.
Tumblr media
What I liked about this BL is that both characters grow a lot from the first to the last episode, helping each other to become greater versions of themselves. In the end, the two of them had to take a risk and show their vulnerability to reach happiness. I think there is a beautiful message behind all this and it warmed my heart. Another thing that I enjoyed is that Nozue was the one who taught Togawa in the beginning, but couldn’t follow his own advice. Togawa only helped him to do that. Also, I liked how they expressed their feelings and connected through deep conversations. Finally, both actors are obviously beautiful and I’m definitely in love with Takeda Kouhei’s smile. He has such heartwarming expressions, I just can’t deal with them without having butterflies in my stomach (Nico is in love, guys).
I wished the series had more episodes though, since there were only 5 and each of them had approximately 20 minutes. The final episode was a little bit rushed and the feeling of it didn’t match with the intense climax of the previous one. I can’t believe they didn’t kiss in that last episode, even though there were lots of opportunities for it. So yeah, I also wished they had invested more on physical intimacy. Regardless, Old-Fashioned Cupcake is a very nice BL and a breath of fresh air considering all the productions that came out so far in 2022. If you like these slice-of-life stories and don’t mind lack of physical intimacy, you should definitely give it a try! Also, you might not know it, but it is based on a manga with the same title. I can’t really say if it is worth reading, but if this is the media of your preference and you don’t know what to read next, Old-Fashioned Cupcake seems to be a nice option. I’m going to give the manga a chance as well!
So, that was the review for today. Hope you like it! Bye, bye and until next time!

what's your top 5 fav songs from In The Heights?
also, if you could delete a musical or a movie from your mind just to have the thrill of watching it for the first time again, what would it be??
I just fell in love with your question. Okay, here we go!
So there are some songs from In The Heights that I really love. Quick side note: I actually only listen to the recording by the original Broadway cast and that's because I just don't warm up to the movie. No idea why 🤷🏻‍♀️ (plus I love Lin's voice).
My absolute favorite song is and probably will forever be 96,000. I just love it when he lyrics overlap with the other lyrics and everyone sings together yet mixed up. Lin just has an incredible talent for great songs like that (one of the reasons I love Non-Stop by Hamilton and We don't Talk about Bruno so much too and could just listen to them up and down).
Second favorite is probably Carnaval Del Barrio. Firstly because it's just such a great good mood song, secondly I love the Spanish parts (even if I don't know any Spanish :/ ).
Sunrise is on my third place. I love how Benny and Nina always throw the balls to each other and this quiet song is always a welcome change to the otherwise so lively songs.
On the fourth place is Blackout. Even though a lot of things go wrong in this song, nothing beats this "We are powerless". And of course that also so much happens in this song. We have Benny and Nina, Vanessa, Usnavi and Abuela and Sonny and Graffiti Pete. And of course the great ending with the fireworks.
In this case, fifth place was taken by the title song In The Heights.
I love the fact that it's an actual round of introductions and Usnavi is talking to the audience. (Am generally a fan of when a character breaks the fourth wall and speaks directly to the audience). Also, there's no better feeling leaving the house early in the morning and heading straight to work with this song playing.
Now to your musical question.
Well, if you take a quick look at my blog, you might almost think I'm going to throw Hamilton out there. But that's not the case.
In fact, I was rather annoyed and confused by Hamilton when I watched it for the first time.
As I mentioned before, I had nothing to do with American history and knew nothing about it until I came across Hamilton. For fucks sake I even had to google who the fuck Alexander Hamilton is and wondered afterwards what kind of moron writes a musical about politics XD
Eventually the songs got stuck in my head and I started liking them. But it took a while.
So no, it's not Hamilton.
In fact, I would say here: The Phantom of the Opera.
It's one of the first musicals I ever saw and I just loved it from the beginning. (I'm a bit of a drama queen, after all).
I love the songs, I love the story and the finale always makes me cry. Just erasing it from my memory and then falling in love with this musical all over again... that would be a dream.
I hope I could answer your question well.

27 and 29 :D
Awww Dia you are such a sweetheart! ;W; Thank you for asking!!!
Alright, No 27: What do you listen to while writing?
This needs to come with a disclaimer that I have no proper music taste whatsoever and that I vibe with basically anything. That being said I have specific songs for some chapters or scenes that I developed through or with a particular song at times and I listen then to those on repeat a lot (I often feature them as teasers or quote them at the beginning of a chapter). During longer writing sessions I mostly listen to chillhop/synthwave remixes, especially those by “SoulSearchAndDestroy” on youtube =D
No. 29: Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
This is really difficult because I never thought about picking out specific lines! AWEFAWEFAWE I think I would go with this bit of dialogue from chapter 14: “I’ve been in a lot of fights,” I protested, “just not with my BARE hands! I’m a civilized mutant from New Jersey, I use swords and daggers and those small razors I hide in my boots and sometimes I dip them in poison beforehand and – ” “We get the idea,” Raph said and covered Mikey’s head with his relatively giant hands. His big brother instincts told him that this just went to places not meant for the youngest’s ears. “I feel we should talk about your obsession with cutting things up but maybe this is better suited for a 'mature rated' one-shot,” Donnie remarked. “I have no idea what you are talking about, like ever,” I frowned at purple.   This passage always makes me laugh, maybe because I personally love fourth-wall breaks ;D And a little bonus, because there’s one line I’m currently working on that I like, so here’s a teaser for chapter 27 ;D “If an apple is rotten from its core, you cannot undo it. The apple will never become healthy again. It will simply continue to rot away.”
That was fun!!! If you like Dia I would love to also know your answer to both of these questions! Feel free to reblog with your answer and thank you again for the ask!

A challenge for @l0w-p0ly-3dz , and honestly anyone else that wants it.
Infinite is biologically related IN SOME CAPACITY to 5 of my fankids.
Four of them are through the Barker Bunch shenanigans @bitter-sweet-coffee and I created (meaning he's an uncle to three of them and a great uncle to the fourth)
One of them is a wild card only Izzy and @stillafanofsonic know, the former because I workshopped it with them and the latter because they correctly guessed it last time I vague posted about this.
Here's my line up, oldest (age wise) to youngest. Feel free to take your guesses on who is what relation to Infinite:
-Briar the Squirrel (Tangle and Whisper's adopted son) -Indestructible squirrel with extra heart to make up for his lack of braincells. He's got a bit of a masochism streak (Like, not really, he just likes to know how bad things that look like they would hurt would hurt. Masochism's being a bit overdramatic) Words can't begin to describe how much of an idiot this kid is. I love him so much. 🥰
-Rosella the Seedrain (Tails's adopted daughter) Accidentally created via a lab explosion, Rosella takes after her dad in terms of inventing/science. (and also explodes a lot of stuff she works on) Experiments on Briar quite frequently... At his request.
-Chaos Specimen #91 "Maria" (Shadow's daughter) GUN attempted to make a super soldier of their own following the Project Shadow blueprints using mostly Shadow's DNA, and a cursed slurry of... Other DNA. Shadow got very mad when he found out, levelled the lab she was made in, and took her and went on the run for three years.
-Ivy the SugarGlider (Tangle and Whisper's adopted daughter) Sometimes she's the braincells Briar's lacking, but other times she's encouraging him to surf down the stairs on a trash can lid because it'd be really funny to watch him crash and break something. Trust her at your own risk.
-Yumi the Chameleon (Espio's adopted daughter) Espio found a brat in an alleyway during a case and kept the little shit because he got attached to her despite her taunts and insults. She's a brilliant ninja detective in training, but she's got a fucking mouth on her. Single handedly responsible for Eggman inventing "The Muzzle" later on. Yes that does exactly what it sounds like.
-Patience the BugBear (Bark and Jewel's daughter) - She seems like a shy little thing at first, but get her talking about archaeology and she won't shut the fuck up ever. Also quite cheerful once you break down her walls. A bit accident prone though, especially once she gets her hands on The Grimoire, an ancient tome her mentors accidentally let her keep that is filled with ancient spells. She's translating them... With chaotic results.
-Bridget (I forgot what Bridget was I'm sorry IZZY HELP 😭) Fiona and Crystal (my OC Bark's cousin)'s kid- Skilled snowboarder, skateboarder, Extreme Gear rider... Give her a board and she can kick your ass with it. Her parents taught her everything they knew about the aforementioned sports and then handed her off to the Babylon Rogues for further training. LOVES fashion too. Will play either the dumb jock or the dumb blonde to troll the shit out of idiots.
-Leaf (Storm and Big's robokid)- Wave built them a robokid. Very earnestly into helping people. Wave also complied with their request for Leaf NOT to be a gifted Extreme Gear boarder by making them a gifted Extreme Gear MECHANIC instead. 😎 Also consider this your freebie Leaf is NOT related to Infinite obviously LMAO.
-Marzipan the BugBear (Bark and Jewel's son)- He's like Ferb. Rarely speaks, when he does it's usually quite profound. Gets really into botany when he gets older, but unlike his sister he's not a prodigy in the subject. The boy just likes his flowers and wants to open a florist shop.
-Stella and Luna the Sloths (Tangle and Whisper's adopted twin daughters) - Unless one of their moms each takes one around with them, they get separation anxiety when you separate them. They don't like loud noises and big energy. If you're being A Lot, they'll sneak up on either side of you, and then hug you and shush you until you calm down. They do this to Infinite and Fang a lot.
