4.15.2019. Monday.
I enroll in my Fall classes later today! I'm taking cell biology and introduction to personalities, which personally sound 1000x more interesting than physics. And as an extra bonus, I get to keep my amazing Latin professor for another semester!

Aloha, everyone! Here are some tips for fine-tuning research papers that a professor at my university just shared with me.
Use headings
Should be scope of the problem
Don’t replicate the journals that you read
Remove yourself from the paper
Opinion is evident because you wrote it
Only include yourself if it is a journal piece or a reflection
Cite numbers right away
Don’t wait until the end of the paragraph
Let your researchers argue with each other
Shows that you’re being thorough
Can still pick a side
Stay away from broad topic papers
Take the opportunity to research what you don’t know
Stay curious
Bring more research into the field
Hope these can be helpful to some of you!! Happy studying/writing!

100 DAYS OF PRODUCTIVITY 1/100 Jan/1st/2018
As a goal of 2018, I plan to finally finish the 100 DoP challenge, here are my favorite 4 spreads from my January bujo. Decided to make a habit tracker with drawings since I find it more fun to fill in :).

Only 4 more days until my spring break...
I’ve had so much to catch up on that I’ve been doing early morning study sessions in addition to evening sessions.
Pros of waking up at 4 AM to study:
- No distractions; everyone is asleep, it’s quiet, and social media is pretty dry.
- Sunrise!!
- Nice refresher before classes
- It feels calmer and less rushed
- Helps with self-discipline
Cons:
- Waking up at the literal crack of dawn is so hard
- You have to make sure you go to bed relatively early so you aren’t extremely sleep deprived
- It’s usually freezing in the morning and leaving a warm bed is close to impossible
Tips:
- Give yourself a little time to wake up before you start your tasks
- Make yourself tea or coffee
- You don’t have to get dressed, but change out of the pajamas you were wearing. I find I am more motivated that way
- Drink LOTS of water
- Try to get at least 6 hours of sleep the night before
- Shower or wash your face when you get out of bed if you have trouble waking up
- EAT BREAKFAST !!!! I cannot stress this enough. Even if it’s just an apple, a bowl of cereal, or some toast; EAT!

Career Changes and Uncertainty
For the past year, bordering on two, I have not been active on here except as a lurker, and even then, tumblr has been an app that takes up a little space on my phone. I don’t get on here ever anymore, and while I miss it, I also think that having a studyblr and buying into this idea that I needed to grind and grind and grind allowed me to pretend for too long that I still wanted to be a doctor. I was stuck on a career path that I knew deep down that I did not want anymore, and my decision to drop premed and focus on my biology degree without showcasing my notes or my desk or how productive I was allowed me to appreciate biology for what it is.
And now, with COVID and the fact that I have no idea whether I want to go into research or academia, I am heavily considering taking a gap year...or five. What if I spent my twenties as a research assistant in a lab and paid off at least some of my student loans and then go to grad school? Or what if I decide after I get my bachelors in biology that I love advocacy more than research and want to get a degree in social work so that I can work in the disability community?
All of that being said, I believe that maybe it’s a good idea to start being active on here again. I have so much love for this community and it did make me feel proud of the things that I was doing. So, hi tumblr. I’m back.

Well, it’s officially 2017, and it’s been a pretty rough year for all of us. “2016 may not have been the best year for me,” you think to yourself, “but this year, I’m going to do better.” Perhaps you have a long list of resolutions written down in your bullet journal. Or maybe there’s just one thing you want to focus on. But the bottom line: you need to be disciplined to achieve your goals. So if you want to learn how to be a more disciplined and focused person, and kick ass this year, keep reading.
01// WHAT IS DISCIPLINE?
Discipline is defined as “training oneself to do something in a controlled and habitual way.” So how can you actually get disciplined? The “secret” to getting disciplined is to simply force yourself to work even when you don’t feel like it. It sounds easy enough, sure. But putting it in practice is can be tough. There’s a thousand ways to procrastinate and a thousand things to distract you during the day, but you have to harden yourself against all of the obstacles that prevent you from completing your tasks. A good deal of the time, productive people aren’t constantly motivated to go achieve their goals, but they are disciplined enough to get their work down and buckle down even when they don’t feel like it. They have learned to shut out all distractions and exercise their willpower in order to be productive and make the most of their day. To be disciplined and accomplish what you want to, this is the skill you need to learn, and to be honest, it’s not that difficult if you put your mind to it.
02// RESOURCES TO GET DISCIPLINED
In my opinion, there’s not too much to say in the subject of discipline—either you learn to control yourself and get shit done and reward yourself later, or you procrastinate. However, some sources listed below can explain this better and in more detail, so check these out:
eight ways to create discipline
five proven methods to help you gain self-discipline
ten habits to disciplining yourself
five steps to developing more discipline
six small things to do when you lack discipline
how to discipline yourself (wikihow)
03// TUMBLR RESOURCES
my discipline tag
how to study when you don’t feel like it by @hundred-days-studying
an ask I answered on motivation versus discipline
another post on discipline versus motivation by @zuhoorsahrawiya
also, here’s a link to my original masterposts in case you need any of them
and finally, I wish you all luck on your journey to get disciplined. I know it can be challenging to get there, but once you can resist that extra episode of netflix or the urge to scroll through tumblr, you’re basically golden. good luck to everybody on dominating 2017!!! hugs, mel
