SOCIOPATHY & NARCISSISM IN THE CHARTS
READ THIS BEFORE READING THE POST: This post is about how a sociopath or narcisisst would be like based on their placements and NOT about which placements can make someone a sociopath.
This post is also NOT about psychopaths, its about sociopaths. Psychopaths are born, sociopaths are made.
Tumblr media
Sun: The Sun shows the ego. The Sun has more to do with Narcissism than Sociopathy. Narcissism is an egobased disorder. A Narcisisst got an ego so sensitive and so damaged they have to make up for it by putting others down and create a false image of themselves. Sun Square Neptune can make a person make up a false image of themselves and it also makes someone unable to face their own faults. Sun Square Pluto can make someone obsessed with being seen a certain way. Sun Square Saturn can make the self esteem really really bad to the point you have to put others down. Sun Aspecting Jupiter is common in people who believe themselves to be morally superior to others. An afflicted Sun is not enough to make someone bad tho, the moon has to be afflicted for that.
Moon: The Moon shows how our emotions work. Someone with Moon Square Saturn can easily turn off their emotions which is why someone with this aspect can become dangerous if they are abused. Moon aspecting a planet like Pluto makes someone very very afraid of losing control. The Moon is where it all starts but most of all its our relationship to our mother. Bad aspects to Moon can show a person whos not been nurtured correctly. It can show someone who didnt bond correctly with their parents and therefore have a hard time bonding with others later in life. When you cant bond and feel for others you base your relationships on what you can get out of them instead, which is a sociopathic trait.
The 4th house/IC: The 4th house shows upbringing and genetic inheritance. Someone with for example an asteroid like Nessus or Dejanira in the 4th house might have been abused as a child. Abuse is usually what makes someone a sociopath. Someone with a Nessus/Sun conjunction in the 4th house will feel a strong need to be the matriarch of their family. This is the kind of sociopath who abuses their children or family members and looks perfect to outsiders. These people might be angels at work with a good reputation and even a fanbase because they take out their evil at home. Narcissists and Sociopaths with this aspect can freeze out family members who threathen their position. They need control over the family.
Asteroid Narcissus(37117): Narcissus is an asteroid that can show huge amounts of self importance. This Asteroid in the 1st house can be someone who becomes very angry when they dont get special treatment. They also place a lot of importance in their appearance and on having the right partner. They like to either surround themselves with people who are considered ”important” or the opposite, people they look good in comparison with.
Asteroid Nessus(7066): Asteroid Nessus is the asteroid of abuse and common in sociopathic peoples chart. Someone with Moon conjunct Nessus is someones whos abuse is very very subtle. This is pure emotional abuse. These are the people who accidentally call their partner the wrong name to make it clear they have other options, the person who ”forgot” to invite only you to their birthday partner to make you feel worthless. Then when you feel worthless they make you do stuff for them. Sun conjunct Nessus is a more straight up abuse were they openly bully you to your face.
Asteroid Dejanira(157): Asteroid Dejanira shows abuse and the kind of abuse depends on the planet it touches. This is why this asteroid is extremely important to look at. Dejanira conjunct Mars shows s*xual or physical abuse, usually by a male. Moon conjunct Dejanira shows emotional abuse most likely done by a woman. And what do abused people do? They become abusers. As a woman with Mars conjunct Dejanira myself I can tell you Ive been in so many s*xually abusive situations with men and I later started being very abusive myself, towards men(not s*xually tho). Ive healed from it now and worked on myself, but what if I hadnt? Scary.
Different placements can also show what kind of sociopath you are more likely to be.
Covetous sociopaths: These are the kind of people we think of when we hear the word sociopath. The ”typical” ones. They grew up thinking they didnt get enough and that everybody else got more and not its their to take. These people would do anything to get what they want. These sociopaths could have aspects like Venus Square Saturn, Moon Square Saturn, Pluto 1st house
Nomadic sociopaths: These sociopaths are dangerous because they are the hardest to spot. They appear innocent and shy. They play on how easy they can make others feel bad for them. They appear lost and have no clear sense of identity which makes it easy for them to mirror others. They are not as competetive as other sociopaths and not as aggressive. These sociopaths are most likely to be diagnosed with borderline. These sociopaths could have aspects like Neptune 1st house, Venus Square Neptune, Mars Square Neptune, Chiron in the 1st house
Malevolent sociopaths: These people have a thing for punishing people. They are the most ruthless and could even want to see blood. They are very very vengeful and easily offended. Just accidentally offending them will be met with cold ruthless revenge. These sociopaths could have aspects like Moon aspecting Pluto, Lilith 8th house, Nessus conjunct Sun, Pluto Square Sun
Risk-taking sociopaths: These are the kind of sociopaths who would do anything for the thrill. They need to feel something and the only way for a sociopath to do that is to do something bad. These people are very likely to be found in jail. They usually start with shoplifting, unprotected sex and petty drama but as they get older it can become worse. These are the ones most likely to have affairs, sleep with their friends partners etc. Women with this kind of Sociopathy are more likely to get involved with men who are gangmembers. These kind of sociopaths could have aspects like Lilith in the 2nd house, Sagittarius Moon, Mars Square Jupiter, Mars in Scorpio
Reputation-defending sociopaths: These people will punish those who dont give them special treatment. These people need to be someone if high status. They will either study and become successful or lie about being successful. They would kill to save their reputation. They are social climbers and only want to be seen with the right people. They want to be seen as a saint and might videotape themselves giving money to homeless people and things like that. Unlike the risk taking sociopaths these people have incredible amounts of self control. These sociopaths could have aspects like Capricorn placements, Pluto 10th house, Mars 10th house, Venus in Capricorn, Nessus conjunct Midheaven.
Tumblr media
The placements mentioned in this post does not make someone a sociopath, they only show what a sociopath with these aspects would be like.

honestly i do pity the fs for a lot of kpop idols it must not be easy for them even if they are happy together also why im glad its not me thats dating them in that sense. which member of bts will have it easier than other members? will they gain a fan base of their own as well?
Jungkook will be able to prepare for it, and he has plans on how he will reveal it. he is ready to defend himself and his partner. Yes, his spouse / partner would have a huge fanbase as well people will be more supportive. ( 7 wands , the lovers )
Tumblr media
Jin will have it hard to but just the typical response of how most idols get treated with dating news, and marriage but the fanbase will be supportive, have huge support as well. ( five cups , four of wands)
Jhope will also have a plan for how he ready to reveal it, but the spouse/ partner will also receive a lot of hate. yes a fanbase ( 7 wands, 9 swords)
Tumblr media
Namjoon spouse/partner will be attack quickly, they will dig up information so fast, try to cancel that person. Namjoon himself will still be happy that it isn't as bad as he thought it would be. ( ten cups , 8 of wands reverse)
Jimin spouse will face tons of negativity and have a fanbase but anti fans. Jimin will lose sleep and be anxious over the hate train. ( 9 swords, five of wands reverse)
Suga will not be surprised by the amount of hate, but he will speak up about his lover. he will receive some hate messages on weverse but not as bad as V . ( the sun reverse , ace sword reverse)
V spouse will gain a fandom of their own but will be mostly about how much they dislike the spouse . V will get tons of hate again . 9ten of wands reverse , empress reverse )

I have so many questions! Why’s everyone losing followers? Did anyone say/do anything? What’s happening to my babies 😭🫶
WARNING: LONG-ASS RANT AHEAD
I think part of it is the album cycle and tour coming to an end, people being up in arms about them not speaking on Palestine, but mostly cause (let’s be honest) they are not good at social media. Social media is its own science, and though people act like growing and maintaining a following is easy, it is not. That is why good social media managers make so much money. GVF’s socials might put out occasional videos and pics, but individually the guys suck at keeping fans engaged online. Except maybe Danny who seems to have some (minimal) idea of how to play the game. Shout out to Hannah as well. Aside from taking the bait and fighting with Sam’s dumb-ass stans, she is damn good at engaging with fans and promoting herself online. I think the only suggestion I would make is for her to start liking Twitter replies more often. Go through the replies to her tweets each day and like every single positive or neutral comment that was left for her. Engagement is key. In this day and age people want to feel that they know their favorite artist on a personal level. They love to feel like they are being seen, that they are special. How many times have we seen a fan gushing over the fact that Danny gave their comment a like on Instagram? The way to foster that feeling of closeness is by being active online and giving the illusion of familiarity. It’s a tool to leave fans feeling that they are close to their favorite artist, no matter how unreachable they are in reality. Why do you think Taylor Swift has so many rabid fans frothing at the mouth thinking she’s somehow their bestie? It’s because she’s the queen of the parasocial relationship. I would LOVE to sit the guys down and give them a full course in social media literacy and hand each of them a personal blueprint on how to maximize their individual social media impact. Literally there are multiple ways of engaging with fans that I could think of for each of the guys. There is so much that they could do that they just are not, and it sucks to see them slipping on something that is so easy. I could be wrong though, and they could know what to do, but don’t want to encourage or grow the current fan base that they have. They seemed to be a lot more open and happier when their fanbase was more mature and not comprised of 18 to 22-year-old girls. I strongly get the impression that Sam and Jake would prefer to have less of a teeny bopper following than they currently do. If that is their prerogative, then they are doing a great job. I guess as long as they can still sell tickets then number of followers doesn’t really matter too much. Bottom line, though, maybe back in the day musicians could put out their music and go on tour and then disappear until the new cycle started, but that’s not how the game is played today. Out of sight is out of mind and out of mind is career suicide. Unless you are Beyoncé and have some sort of huge mythos built around you, you cannot afford to go social media silent for even a few weeks. I really wish they would step up and play the game a little bit more cause it’s frustrating seeing them fumble so hard on something so basic.
***TBH, part of me really wants to come back on here and spell out the fundamentals of effective social media outreach and post my ideas for what each guy should do to play to their strengths and boost their engagement. If they do have people lurking on here or lurk themselves maybe it might give them the idea of how to step up their game.***

Cat’s Out of the Bag
Minecraft Streamer AU
Okay so I’ve had this thought brewing for a bit, but it’s about irl Serennedy vs their SMP characters. It’s about their relationship in and out of the Minecraft roleplay. It’s a lot so I’ll put it under the cut.
If they’re following the plot of the RE4 remake (with plenty of changes to make it fit Minecraft), then they’re clearly not together as a couple. But, for all the same reasons that we ship them, they’ve got those little moments interspersed in the roleplay and their fans pick up on them, too. It’s subtle enough not to out them, but it’s also subtle enough for it to be dismissed as being close friends (which they are; they’re dating but they’re also each other’s best friends).
So that kind of brought me to their shipping boundaries that I’ve posted elsewhere. Luis is chill with being shipped with other characters as long as the CC is also fine with it, but there’s kind of an exception with Leon. Luis is the captain of the Serennedy fanbase even though Leon has never outright stated his shipping boundaries. He never addresses it. Naturally there’s a divide in the fandom over whether or not it’s okay to ship Serennedy because, on the one hand, Luis is incredibly supportive of it, but on the other hand, Leon hasn’t ever said anything about it. It’s unclear what his thoughts are about it, but Luis is his best friend and encourages it, so it’s probably fine, right? There’s a lot of discourse over this.
It’s not like Luis and Leon are hiding their relationship on purpose though. It’s just nobody’s business. If they come out, they come out, but it’s not a huge deal. Besides, focusing on them as strangers developing a sort of friendship is ideal for the story they’re trying to tell. They reason it would make for a more compelling narrative if they’re not sure where they stand with each other because of their pasts instead of having them be together from the start. It makes for great storytelling getting to establish this sense of unease and distrust that develops into total trust after they open up to each other.
Then there’s also the fact that nobody knows they’re living together. They were roommates before they were together, so they each have their own rooms. They stream in their own spaces and don’t interrupt each other when they’re doing their own things, so nobody knows that they’re living together– which brings me to what I’ve been thinking about for a couple days now.
The news that Serennedy is, in fact, canon between the two actual streamers and that they live together doesn’t come out until well into the RE SMP’s story. It doesn’t happen until Luis’s character is killed off.
Luis is upset about his character dying, even if he did propose the idea himself. He wrote his way out of the SMP because he’s in grad school and his workload has started to pick up tremendously. He loved his time on the RE SMP, but he knew he couldn’t devote as much time as he wanted into it with his classwork piling up, so he made the decision to kill off his character. He didn’t realise how bummed out he would be about it until the day of. He finishes his stream, but he’s so sad over the end of his character, so he goes into Leon’s room while he’s still streaming. The chat goes wild. They realise Luis and Leon live together.
Luis walks over to him and asks to be comforted, so he sits on his lap and hugs him while Leon finishes up his stream. Again, the chat is going crazy. Serennedy is trending on Twitter. But that’s just a hug! It’s still totally friendly! Totally platonic! Leon pecks Luis on the lips because he knows he’s sad. That’s the end of the shipping discourse. People who thought they were queerbaiting are losing their shit. It’s like Nov 5th, 2020 for the Hellers except it’s actually clearly reciprocated. Leon ends stream like nothing’s happening. Ashley calls him to ask if everything’s okay because outing themselves like that was an insane move, but she’s happy for them and feels relieved that she doesn’t have to worry about slipping up and accidentally outing them herself.
The craze goes on for like a week and then everyone accepts it as the new normal. For a while nobody can get the Serennedy shippers to shut up about being right about them. Of course there are haters that drop the RE SMP, but they’re a minority and it’s not really noticeable when they leave.
This is subject to change as I continue to develop the AU, but I like this as the reveal. Sorry for rambling. I’m just really into this AU rn

One question I have: I don’t see the point of such a social media strategy beyond, well, keeping Louis (and Harry) closeted. (And that definitely could be the goal.) Louis relies heavily on fan projects and engagement and most of his fans are Larries. We’ve always said that it seems like Louis and his team try to kill off his most dedicated fans during promo season. If the goal is to get rid of Larries and expand his fanbase, I don’t see much evidence of the latter.//
PR anon again. Clients don't always do what we advise them to do and sometimes they do go off script. I'm not saying I know everything about the situation or what Louis/his team intend, but I do want to make it clear that social media is a huge part of PR and while it may seem organic, it is not. The more organic it seems, the better we are at doing our job.
When I evaluate the Bentley situation, I see a great PR opportunity. It's rare to find a kid that knows your songs and seems to be a genuine fan. The mom is active on social media. The DMs and face time also hit the markers for Louis's fan engagement (personal, connected, same level, I need you/you need me). I think Louis wants to present himself as accessible to fans, but it does not mean that Louis is actually accessible to fans.
The wild card is Larry. If Louis were my client and he wanted to maintain this idea of accessibility with fans, I would advise him to control the interaction not only in person, but also within the social media landscape which is where he is most vulnerable. People will do lots of things on social media that they will not do in person. If those DMs are real (I tend to think they are based on how he approaches SM), he sets the tone immediately on Larry and then continues with the positive fan interaction. Louis and his team must have decided the positive promotion with Bentley was worth the Larry boundary. I do think boundary is the correct word. The DM was an intentional written interaction with the fan in hopes the message would reach a larger social media audience, like an influencer.
Why would he do this when most of his fans are Larries? I have thought about this from a lot of different angles. And the answer that makes the most sense to me is that I don't think anyone thought losing fans would be a risk. Louis has denied Larry before and he still has a large fan base dedicated to fan projects and they continue to be very engaged in his success. I think the intention of the DM is to draw a boundary about how Larry is discussed with Louis in person and/or on social media. It keeps him accessible to personal fan interaction and also attempts to control the interaction.
I think in the past, Louis has not been consistent with social media and at times, may have acted on his own or acted in defiance to a plan. I think since the pandemic, Louis has been more consistent in the story he wants to tell about his life publicly. I do see a more personal commitment to adhere to objectives surrounding his public image.
I think Louis wants to be close to fans, but also doesn't want to be close to fans. He wants to be close to them on his terms which can be quite difficult to navigate because people act all sorts of ways and can be unpredictable both in person and on social media. Louis does seem to excel at more 1:1 interaction and possibly his team is trying to play to his strength but in a way that doesn't harm him. I think Louis and his team are counting on fan loyalty to ignore the stuff they don't like (public Larry denials) and embrace the stuff they do like (personal Larry interaction at concerts). I think it's a gamble.
Thanks for coming back, anon. Very interesting thoughts. I think you’re probably correct.

Sam Claflin and the Ageism Comments
I've been meaning to make this post for... well, months now, the reason why I've been dragging my feet on it is that, honestly, it's such a non issue for me, but I just cannot abide how fucking stupid people can be.
So, what's up with all the "Sam Claflin looks too old on Daisy Jones and The Six", "Sam Claflin has aged comments"?
If these comments came only from incels of 4chan and Reddit, I wouldn't have thought anything of it, bc that's the type of stuff I expect from them. But, disappointingly, they came from DJATS fans.
Also just the sheer perplexity over people being surprised that a person is, gasp, ten years older than what they were ten years ago. Therefore, I have to speak up.
More under the cut.
Around the time DJATS was released, I re-listened to the audiobook, and I distinctly remember Daisy saying, upon meeting Billy for the first time, that he had lines around his eyes, even though he couldn't have been older than 29. Sam was 35 during the filming of DJATS, so yeah, he is older than his character, but I don't understand why this would be such a huge problem? Actors often play characters younger than them, but it's not just that. Maybe they couldn't find a suitable 29yo actor to play Billy, which is not an easy role. (Even Sam didn't get it on the first try, but they gave him a chance bc they knew he was good.) Also I just don't see what difference the ages of characters make in this story. They could be anything from late 20s to late 30s, even early 40s. It's a documentary about a band, not a coming of age story. I think that... it seems to me (and I could be wrong in my assessment) that for whatever reason, this fanbase is really young. (Didn't the book blow up on tiktok?) Maybe they presumed the characters would be closer to their own age, especially as gen z have this weird thing when it comes to age. I don't know. It's bizarre.
So what did Sam really look like on DJATS? Well, most of all, he lost a lot of weight. And sometimes it happens that when a person loses a lot of weight, depending on how thin they get, it might age them. I don't know how you can expect someone to get down to a size where they've left with hollow cheeks without this making them look older. In addition, Billy is a recovering alcohol/drug addict. Those things are generally not good for you.
So even if Sam did look older on DJATS--what does it matter? Is it not bringing the character to life that matters, the talent, the hard work he put in becoming Billy? Learning to play a whole musical instrument, making sure to get it right with regards to his character's struggle with addiction, by consulting the people who worked with actual rockstars who had the struggles in the 70s? Is that not what it is about?
If you only like films and shows with young people under a certain age, then watch those. There's plenty of YA out there for you to peruse.
Sam has been in the business since 2010. In that time he played such a variety of roles that a chunk of the audience don't even realise it's the same guy. He likes challenging himself, he has lost and gained weight as his roles demanded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam is 37 now and he looks exactly how a normal 37yo man would look. He's just more handsome than most. He is a very down-to-earth person and doesn't hang out with the Hollywood elite. He doesn't shoot up his face with botox. And good thing he doesn't. I'd rather have him with a few lines in his face than lose that smile, his most valuable asset.
I'd like to bring attention to another feature of Sam, not something that perhaps many notice, and not something you'd immediately notice when it comes to Sam, bc he mostly keeps them in his pockets--his hands.
These are not the hands of a person that looks too old.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But hey, it's okay. You don't have to like Sam. There's plenty of young male celebs for you to fawn over. Us oldies will keep Sam, thank you very much.
(Note: yes I know women get it worse, but I made this post about Sam.)

Want to know what I'm most excited about for byler endgame?
All the gays who didn't see it coming.
Like there are plenty of queer ships out there with huge fanbases. And unfortunately, yes, a lot of these ships over the years weren't canon and were very clearly queer-bait going nowhere.
A lot of fans have been here before, many times. Looking for crumbs, looking for the bare minimum, and so it's not even about the pairing actually getting together in the end, it's about appreciating all the moments in between. That's valid and honestly as good as it gets most of the time and so I don't really blame them.
Which is why I think, when it comes to Stranger Things, despite the canon queer characters, SO many queer viewers who haven't even watched the show or only watched it maybe once casually, are just not picking up on any of the subtext, despite picking up on stuff from shows where it was almost entirely accidental.
And it is fascinating!
Hearing fans of other queer ships that are confused about why byler was #1 on Tumblr this year and even just coming off as sort of condescending about it, I can't even be mad.
Because from their perspective this is just another mainstream show with horrible queer-bait, which is why they haven't even allowed themselves to genuinely consider it.
And so I cannot wait for their reactions when they find out they were wrong. That they thought they would be right because they've been wrong so many times before about queer ships that didn't end up together. Except this time they'll be wrong for assuming they wouldn't end up together...
Then, that's when they'll finally allow themselves to go back and watch it and pay attention, without worrying they're being tricked like they've been every other time before... and they're going to lose their shit.

It’s gonna be an unpopular opinion but somedays I wish he’ll do something so ridiculously stupid that most of those fans who came with H’sH and is here just because of his pretty face would unstan him and so his popularity will fall. But unfortunately it is more likely that larries/fans who really care about him as a person and artist will leave and het harries will stay because they don’t think deeper and whatever ridiculous he would do they will quickly forget about it as soon as some aesthetically pleasing promo drop. Only solution of this situation would be that at least if there will come some fresh and younger break-through artist that they will simply move on to someone else who has even prettier face and hotter body, will constatly feed them on sm and Harry will be there for those who are serious about his music as much as he himself is serious about his music - luckily for us he’s nearly 30 and that’s the age when you are too old for teenagers to call you trendy and follow you. So again, it’s unpopular but I kinda wish for this situation because somedays I can’t stand how most of fans don’t go under the surface and I want him for those who truly understand him.
There was this discussion how interesting he is alone as a person without his tabloid drama and womanizerTM image for hets and gp and I can totally say that for me he is totally interesting and would love if he’ll give us more from his personality, his sense of humour or his interests because I know he’s interested in many kinds of art, he reads books and have a feeling he’s just an old soul who on one hand knows internet and memes and usage of emojis f.e. but on the other hand he’s too old for all the sh*ts teens are obsessed with, don’t have tiktok installed in his phone to use it under some fake account or simply doesn’t know what is popular because he lives in his bubble and doesn’t needn’t to keep up with trends.
It’s basically the same as you discussed Louis huge potentional for his shows - there’s a lot what both of them can give us but yet we don’t even get the minimum. At least they have each other and they personalities are fully open and we can only wonder how great they are together when one doesn’t need to hide anything and other one is fully comfortable.
Hi, anon!
I agree with your unpopular opinion. I'd rather have a smaller fanbase consisting of people who see and get him, and let's him do his thing, than him having a huge fanbase but then having to bend backwards to entertain the flighty gp majority. There are larries who disagrees and wants him to be successful over anything else. And we know Sony/Columbia don't agree, cause they will lose money. I'm a realist and i don't see that happening, even though some of us wish it. But i do see that the ones who actually thinks harry is a person of some substance will likely move on if this behaviour continues. But i think harry tm has a shelf life, they didn’t create him to last. He's not a slow burn, but a quick and fast burning star. They might change strategy, and think that a coming out will be a new era, rebrand him so that his career will last. Idk.
I do think harry is an interesting person and i think he's well spoken when he dosn't need to guard his words or speak on things he's not interested in. We see it so rarely though. He hardly does interviews anymore, both on camera or printed. And i agree that he could be so much more if they let him. Same with Louis.

Your line about how Edelstans don't admit that she's written for the male gaze "because it would lower their cred as “progressives” if they admitted that this female character was written in a sexist way and they like her like her even though her writing is demonstrably sexist" really makes sense. But for reference, what are some good examples to use for this, in case someone asks me why Egg's writing is sexist? You can give examples for primarily 3H tho if you wanna ignore Nopes altogether.
Full disclosure that I still haven't beaten Scarlet Blaze so there might be more from Three Hopes that I'm not aware of. I'm not ignoring it, I just haven't seen it yet if it exists (someone who has played it in its entirety can speak to it, if they want to chime in).
#1) The game has a huge purity kink with her
This is a common sexist writing trope because it implies that women are only "desirable" so long as they are "unspoiled". Think all of those slut shaming sex ed videos shown in American schools where women are described as tape and if you stick tape to lots of surfaces (have sex with more than just your future husband) it "gets dirty" and "loses its bonding power" (your sex with your husband is less special and valuable).
Now note how Edelgard is almost a sexless being unless she is speaking about or interacting with Byleth? That's not an accident. She is one of the few characters (if not the only character?) in the game who is never even passingly romantic with any of her support partners in their A support. In fact, there's several intimations of romance that she explicitly shuts down. Hubert (he says he loves her, she doesn't say it back), Ferdinand (he starts giving a speech about how his ancestor asked for her ancestor's hand after a duel, she tells him to stop), I suppose you could even argue that Dorothea was having romantic feelings directed toward her (she completely misses the implication).
She does have endings that are romantic, but you can only see those once you, the player, have decided that you do not want her (therefore there is no reason to keep her "pure" for you anymore).
And this purity aspect isn't just exclusive to Crimson Flower. Note how Edelgard has feelings for Byleth in every single route of the game, including ones where she has never interacted with them for more than a minute or two at a time?
She's in love with you and only you. She is eternally pure and waiting for the moment you reach out your haaaaand to her, and if you never do she will either happily die, or only move on after you have 100% made it clear you do not want her.
And if I have to explain why that's sexist here it is: women do not exist solely for the pleasure of men. We have lives. We love and we have desire and there is nothing dirty or wrong about expressing that with as many partners as we want. This idea that women must remain pure and if she doesn't then no man would ever want her is rooted in sexist mentalities stemming from when women were viewed as nothing more than property. Edelgard is treated as the player's "property" to use or dispose of as they please. If she loved anyone but the player, she would be viewed as "damaged goods" (and, if you're aware of the Japanese side of the fanbase, that's actually a semi-common criticism of Dorothea's writing.)
"But what about Female Byleth!" Frankly I don't see "this character exists as my property" to be any less sexist just because it's happening between two women instead of a woman and a man. Byleth's gender is essentially a menu toggle, considering the writing is completely the same between them, and there's no difference in the way this narrative (written primarly by straight men, I might add) is presented.
2) Her agency (it's ambigous at best)
This is something you might miss if you haven't played Fire Emblem for very long, but Fire Emblem has a chronic issue with refusing to allow their female villains to have agency. This stems back from the very first director of FE, Kaga, who explicitly wrote elements of benevolent sexism into his female villains because he believed women were "too pure" to be truly evil. This often took the form of brainwashing, or on occasion, their love for the main villain being too strong to directly fight against him.
The series has broken away from this in some respects in some entries, but it is still very much a feature of modern Fire Emblem. See Aversa from Awakening as a recent example: she only opposes the player because she was kidnapped and mindwiped as a child. You could argue they even added these elements into SoV with Reina and her love for Berkut.
Now we get to Edelgard. If you've had any conversation about her then you've probably asked yourself the question: how responsible was she for her actions, really? And the answer to that is... as responsible as you want her to be.
Ever wonder why you never get rid of TWSITD earlier in any route of Three Houses? Because the developers need them around behind the scenes, "pulling strings" and keeping Edelgard's exact degree of agency up in the air. When you kill her in any of the other three routes she can always be the poor helpless woman controlled by the big bad men in the background, if you want to keep her innocent.
I've never talked about this before, but I think it became really obvious with Hopes. Azure Gleam, TWSITD are not slithering around in the background at all. She's expelled them from the Empire and everything she does is explicitly of her own volition. And what happens to her when the story gets around to trying to hold her accountable for her crimes? She turns into a brainwash victim.
She never has to be directly held responsible for any of her actions, to reinforce the idea that she is an innocent woman.
And if you need me to explain why that's sexist: it's benevolent sexism. Benevolent sexism is still sexism because it still reinforces the sexist societal expectations of women and men. It just does it in a way that seems kinder on the surface. I'll provide an example:
A woman and a man work together. There's a box that needs carrying. The man says to the woman:
"Oh I'll carry it. After all, there's no way a woman could pick up something so heavy" (Hostile sexism)
"Oh let me get that for you. Women are pretty delicate so you shouldn't have to do work like this" (Benevolent sexism)
The meta-message is the same: women are not supposed to lift heavy things because that is a "man's job". In Fire Emblem's case, it's that women can't be villains because women are supposed to be innocent and pure and good. The only way a woman could do villainous things is if a man is forcing her to go against her pure nature through manipulation or brainwashing. This puts women on a pedestal, and elevates us to something superhuman. But it's not a good place to be, either, because women are people just like anyone else and real life women are never going to be able to maintain that pedestal position for very long.
I could go into it more and the effects it has on women, but that's getting a bit out of the scope for this post. I'd be happy to explain further if anyone is curious, but the gist of it is: it's bad for the same reason porn can be bad. If you aren't aware of how unrealistic it is then it creates unachievable expectations that no real human being would ever be able to live up to.
3) Some of the writing around her is weird, and occasionally just straight up creepy.
It's stuff like her having an emotional moment and then cutely screaming at rats, or seeing horrible experimentations at Remire and then blushing over being teased, or watching two of her subordinates die and then immediately uwuing about how she doesn't want you to see the drawing she's making of you.
It's clear that her being cute and appealing to the player is consistently taking priority over the actual narrative. Her value is as a love interest first and a character second.
And if you want to know why that's sexist: Women have lives and stories to tell. Our experiences and our stories should not be subordinate to our romantic appeal.
As for the stuff about her writing that's just straight up creepy? You'll have to consult with blogs more familiar with the language and culture than mine, but as a taste... In the Japanese, there are some things that they definitely didn't localize over. For example, I believe at Remire one of your options leads to Byleth essentially joking that Edelgard is flat-chested. (EDIT: I've been informed that it wasn't a boob joke. It was teasing Edelgard over her reaction to the tragedy of it basically being "ewww gross". Which probably belongs in the above category about how she's written to be childish/cute to appeal to the player). And in one of their supports (I think C+?) Byleth can joke about being a creepy old man coming by her room in the middle of the night to steal her panties.
Because you know what we really needed in that scene where characters are reacting to horrific human experimentations leading to madness and murder and a burning village... was a joke about a woman's breast size. (EDIT: See above. Still, a very weird moment to bring in her acting like a child seeing a slimy snail or something.) And I'm sure that PTSD flashback dream conversation wouldn't have been complete without her teacher joking about wanting to sniff her panties while jerking off.
Like I said, they didn't bring that over to the English release (because of course they wouldn't it's horrible) but it just goes to show that the developers viewed Edelgard as a sexual object before anything else.

THEY GOT RWBY⁉️😭
Apparently, WB shut down RT earlier today?? Which leaves the future of their IPs in question, which could explain why there was as much raido silence concerning Vol10 as there was.
This isn't to say that RWBY is done for good, but it's future is looking a little uncertain as, despite having had such a huge grip and vocal fanbase for years, the show has been losing popularity. Its collabs with DC have never been hugely successful or well received largely. I don’t think it's a failure on the part of the IP itself, as it does have potential but struggles capitalizing on it, but more that the fanbase is growing/grown up and away from RWBY and RT as a whole.
The market for animation has welcomed in a lot of compelling and, quite honestly, visually impressive IPs that draw in a lot of eyes. RWBY is old and hasn't been known for being a real aesthetic stunner.
Let's not forget to mention that Warner Brothers, along with a number of studios, have been moving away from animation as they don't see the value in investing in them, despite 2015-2021 saw a massive boom for animation and promised a lucrative future for the market. So with RTs aging fanbase, middling writing, and very little hype for any of their other IPs, it's no surprise that they would be dissolved.
It's a disappointment. Hopefully, RWBY can be absorbed by a different company, and the ppl who worked on it can continue to work on it in the future.
Ouch. that's not good. Idk much about insider info or whatnot, but It is tragic to lose them. RWBY is all i watched from them but tons of people like their other content. And while it's had its issues Vol 9 did a good job of getting a lot of people's interest in rwby back from what I saw. Always sucks when a show gets cancelled, and now of all times. Dang. Here's hoping someone else sees its potential and picks it up. At least the end of V9 was ending on a good note. regardless, all I can do is Hope and keep going.

Day 21: League of Dueling Seriously @arcvmonth
I really like the Lancers. They're a group of fun and likable characters, but I wanted to focus on Reiji for this prompt. I really like his design. I love his long red scarf. It's so ridiculous that it comes back around to being cool. It's some peak YGO fashion. His deck is really cool. It has some great monster designs and I've been using it a lot in Duel Links. I tend to favor power decks, so being able to easily summon something like D/D/D Dragonbane King Beowulf on the first turn can be really helpful. He's also the second Arc V character that I was able to fully level up in Duel Links.
I also think he's pretty underrated among the fanbase. I think at least part of that is because it's easy to misread his character. It's easy to see his calm, distant demeanor as being cold, heartless and basically making him to be a bigger jerk than he is. That was the case with me at least when I was watching the series as it was airing. It took me a long time to like Reiji, especially after his second duel with Yuya where he was being really harsh in trying to push him. But he does care about other people. He spent years preparing to fight against Academia and doing whatever he could to protect Standard. That doesn't mean that everything he did was right, but that he wasn't this heartless person either. Unlike the vast majority of the cast, Reiji isn’t openly emotional. He keeps his feelings close to the chest, focused on what he needed to do instead of his own feelings. This was most likely the result of finding out his father's plan three years prior to the start of the series. Thirteen year old Reiji was a lot more emotional, demanding answers from Leo, while sixteen year old Reiji is more calm, collected and reserved. Finding out that his father abandoned him and his mother to effectively start a war forced Reiji to grow up too fast. There are moments where his feelings break through that demeanor, such as when he was so angry hearing Yuto's recount of what Academia did to Heartland, so he clearly was upset over what his father had done on top of abandoning him and his mother.
I also like Reiji as a rival. He felt pretty refreshing when he wasn't a traditional rival or had a traditional kind of rivalry with Yuya. Not that those are necessarily bad things. Traditional rivals and rivalries can be really solid, but I think I was a bit tired of that format after the past few series. It helped to make him stand out and he's my second favorite rival in the franchise next to Jack. I like that both Yuya and Reiji are polar opposites in regards to how they handle their emotions. They both lost their fathers, even if the circumstances were quite different since Yusho didn't intend to abandon his family like Leo did, and that had a huge impact on both of them. Reiji trying to push Yuya into becoming a stronger duelist was also a different take on how rivalries typically go, even if it did seem like pushing Yuya too hard and harshly after the Battle Royal.
I think that it was smart choice to have Reiji duel sparingly for the first two seasons. Admittedly, I'm sure that it was at least partly due to Yoshimasa Hosoya's busy schedule, but I think it still worked out in their favor. Reiji is easily the strongest duelist in the cast with being able to summon Fusion, Synchro, Xyz and Pendulum monsters relatively easy. But he never felt overhyped to me like I think some past and future rivals kind of fall into. He didn't come off as broken or overpowered to the point where I wondered why he didn't just face Academia all by himself. It also fit with his personality. Reiji doesn't jump straight into battle. He observes from the sidelines, figures out the best strategy to go with based on what they know and only take direct action when he deems necessary. Plus, I figured that he wouldn't lose to anyone who wasn't Yuya and maybe Leo, so that would limit how much tension they could get from his duels. While that did limit how much dueling he could do prior to getting to Academia, I thought that it still worked well and he still had some good moments in Synchro even before getting to duel Roger like calling out the City Council and having some bonding moments with Reira.
I also really like his friendship with Yuya. It felt like it was based on mutual respect and was pretty believable. While Yuya was understandably upset with Reiji for a good chuck of the Synchro arc, Tsukikage told him that he wouldn't be working with Reiji if he didn't care for his allies. Afterwards, Yuya stared to call Reiji by his first name instead of Akaba Reiji, which I think meant he didn't see Reiji in the same way anymore. I don't think he could have really argued with Tsukikage when the evidence that Reiji was still keeping an eye on the defeated Lancers was right in front of him. At the end of the arc, Yuya stood up for Reiji, knowing that he wasn't the kind of person that Roger was trying to paint him as after revealing his father was the Professor. And when they confronted Leo at Academia, Reiji returned the favor by standing up for Yuya. After seeing Yuya's duels in the Synchro Dimension, he believed in his skills and chose to help Yuya instead of helping his father. It was a pretty nice moment and I think having a less antagonistic rivalry helped to make that development more believable.
I really loved Reiji's reactions to finally meeting with Leo again. Even after he learned the truth about Leo's plans and that Yuya is Zarc's reincarnation, Reiji still stood up for Yuya, called him his friend and tried to help him even with Zarc trying to take over Yuya’s soul. Of course Reiji wouldn't choose to work with his father after all they've went through, but Leo could easily counter Reiji's strategies. Even when his plans didn't go smoothly or there were unexpected problems in the past, Reiji was usually able to keep calm, collected and figure out where to go from there But his calm demeanor was starting to fade here with Leo calling him out for being too honest, straight forward and basically predictable. Reiji spent years planning this confrontation and had more than enough reason to be confident in both his and Yuya's skills, so he was taken aback by Leo calling him out like that. This moment wouldn't have been nearly as impactful as it was if Reiji had struggled against more opponents throughout the series. Reiji is easily one of my favorite characters of the series, as well as one of my favorite rivals in the franchise, and I don't think he gets enough attention from the fanbase.

ERICA MESSER KEEP F%@KING WITH GARVEZ!?!
SPOILERS AHEAD!!! AND THIS HAS DEFINITELY KILLED THE HIGH I HAVE BEEN ON SINCE THE FINALE :/
So, they plan to bring Tyler back next season (I am literally scowling and frowning right now) and in one breathe she speaks of a love triangle with Garvez and Tyler. Then in the next breath she says they don't want to ruin Luke/Penelope's dynamic with a relationship. So, what's the plan to toy with the Garvez fanbase without any intention of getting them together? I am confused :( Someone please grab me back from this ledge I am standing on and about to jump off. Now, I don't know if I will bother watching season 17, because I fear they are only going to dangle Garvez in front of us 'only' to get our viewership.
Speaking of relationships, Penelope and Tyler [Ryan-James Hatanaka] develop an unexpected but delightful one, but they don't get their happy ending. Is this the last we'll see of Tyler?
ERICA: You will get to see more of Tyler at some point in the season. I can't say too much about it right now, but it was one of those things that we really consulted with Kirsten [Vangsness] about because it was a big betrayal to Garcia. And Garcia's done so much work on herself since 2020, that we said to Kirsten, "Look, we love RJ. We want to keep Tyler Green around. But it feels a little not like Garcia anymore, to go visit him in the hospital and be like, "It's okay, we're fine. Let's keep dating." That didn't feel true to who she is now.
And so Kirsten was happy that we didn't go that route and was a huge collaborator on what that scene would sound like. But we all hoped it wasn't goodbye forever, it was goodbye for now. That's what we're counting on for next season: that it was just a goodbye for now and he'll be back. And then that will bring a complication to — we didn't really get to play [with it] a lot — the triangle because Alvez, [who] didn't even find out about [the relationship]. He might have suspected, he suspected for sure in episode eight, but in episode nine when he and Garcia had that scene and he knows for sure, it's like, "No way!"
So now if Tyler Green's around a lot more, we'll get to play more of the triangle on the screen.
Yes, the fanbase is devoted to Penelope and Luke, but we get that flashback date scene where they determine they're better as friends. Tell me more about the decision to introduce that Penelope and Tyler dynamic.
ERICA: I think everybody wondered what happened on that date that was promised in the CBS finale; and we didn't give you that date until episode nine. But, there's something so incredible about their dynamic. It's not who Garcia was with Morgan [Shemar Moore], it's its own thing. And it's such an important ingredient to the show. [They (Garvez) bring levity and just a breath of fresh air when they're together. So we didn't want to lose that by messing it up with a relationship.] But, we've always loved when Garcia's in a relationship. It's been a long time. And we felt like, let's make it with the person who's least likely to be in a relationship with Penelope Garcia. And the whole introduction of Tyler was, oh, these two are never going to get together. They can't even be in a room together, let alone anything romantic happening. So to earn that and to see those tiny little things that changed how they thought about one another, it was rewarding for us. I think Kirsten and RJ both really loved that they had this arc that started as enemies. It's sort of like they even skipped the friend part and went to lovers, which was fast in some ways, but also believable.

was absolutely amazing! It was well spoken, well written, and I agree with everything you said. Narratively speaking, the most logical is Byler endgame. But my main concern is that despite it making narrative sense, that the Duffers will not do it because they will cater to M*leven. It's a huge cash cow and their fanbase is very loud and popular, despite the relationship not being as good since S2. So my question is that do you think the Duffers will cater to them or do what they please?
Ahh thanks so much for your message, glad you enjoyed it!
I totally understand the doubt--while it makes narrative sense, we've seen lots of shows sidestep narrative impact in favor of heterosexuality. So I get why so many people are wary of getting invested for fear of disappointment.
However, I really think that the Duffers are following the story rather than the money on this one.
For one, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe season 4 is the first season where they've known going in that they would also have a season 5. For other seasons, they had to tread lightly for fear of being cancelled; they don't have that fear anymore, because the story is going to happen no matter what, so this is the first season they can truly do whatever they want. I believe this is why we're seeing Byler overtly instead of in subtext: they have that freedom now.
If they were going to go the Mileven route, there is no purpose to some of the plot lines. I genuinely don't know why they'd even introduce the two issues of Mike not telling El he loves her and Will crushing on Mike if they were going that way. If they wanted Mileven to be endgame with an arc for Mike about learning to express himself, I think they would have approached it in a different way and perhaps been more obvious about why Mike is having trouble with it.
The secretiveness about Mike's motivations in his weird behaviors are part of why I'm so convinced about Byler. If it were about his parents or masculinity rather than Will, they would have shown him struggling with that rather than showing him bonding with Will. They would have no real reason to hide his motivations.
On the other hand, it makes complete sense to push off revealing Mike's motivations until Volume 2 if it's going to be revealed that he's queer, to keep the audiences that might be upset about the end of Mileven engaged. I genuinely think they've delayed explaining his actions until volume two for the precise reasons you've stated. I would love to believe they're straight-baiting, that Byler will be canon and they're just stringing along the casual viewers to get hooked on season 4 before the big reveal.
Because the alternative to them straight-baiting homophobic audiences into watching is that they're queerbaiting us, and I really really don't want to believe that. It doesn't mean it's impossible.
Last, I should point out the obvious, that there's a lot of money to be made off queer people, so even if they are concerned with cash-grabbing, that doesn't rule Byler out either. With the success of Heartstopper and other queer content on Netflix, there is reason to believe Netflix sees this as a risk worth taking. They might lose some homophobic viewers, but they will likely gain even more queer viewers who would be more loyal and more engaged than the casual viewers anyway.
Whew, that was a long one.
Send me more Byler/ST asks??

I absolutely adore Re:Zero, which is hilarious because I gave it a chance a few years ago and dropped it because I thought that it was going to be one of those anime that treat its female characters like props, but I gave it a second chance more recently and — not only does it not do that, it is legitimately one of the greatest character studies I’ve ever seen. It uses its time travel gimmick super well to explore not just how all sorts of characters react to the mc in all sorts of ways depending on how he acts towards them (reflecting 1) the many facets of their very complicated personalities and 2) the central theme of season one surrounding how his own actions affect how other people treat him in turn, and also how his own initial mindset of the world being an escapist fantasy where he gets to play the hero is harming those he is unintentionally forcing it upon — as well as himself and his desperate desire to be loved by other people) — but also to explore the past trauma that has shaped him into who he is today as well as the new cycle of horrors that is shaping his development in this new and frightening world and how he learns to respond to situations. I have seen both depressed otaku hikkikomori and 40 year old war veterans talk about how deeply they relate to the very complicated layers of isolation and trauma (interpersonal and more generally violence-related) that the show explores, it is done so well. I don’t even really qualify as the show’s target demographic and he is probably my favorite protagonist of all time. (Hell, me not directly seeing myself in him is probably why I lIke him so much. A lot of the ire he gets from the fanbase early on is seeped in how so much of the fanbase openly sees him as a reflection of their own flaws/past mistakes, which in and of itself is a sign of its fantastic writing.) It’s the only anime that has gotten me to finish both seasons and go “alright, time to read the book.”
The main character does act super cringeworthy sometimes (and despite his time travel ability, there are some moments where he messes up BAD and is then forced to live with the consequences of his poor behavior), and it can be hard to watch, but he is legitimately fascinating and also genuinely a really good boy, and the other characters are all hugely multifaceted as well. I haven’t even gotten into how he comes off as the most cishet teenage boy imaginable in the first season before you’re suddenly hit with “MC went to school dressed as a woman for the first three days of high school and being clocked for his voice was the traumatic event that pushed him over the edge to spiral into a deep depression” or how he declares that his ideal self is a woman named Natsumi Schwartz or how the books include narration where he spends paragraphs talking about how the knight he’s constantly picking a fight with has “a voice that a woman would mistake for that of an angel, but for him exists solely to vex” and “graceful eyelashes that make him have to hold his breath to prevent him from losing himself” and “slender long legs and surprisingly supple hips that he can’t help but admire,” and then you get to reread everything and see all his old behaviors in an entirely new light with how he’s acting out of insecurities bred from a mindset seeped in toxic masculinity and the fear of being both a non-ideal hero and a non-ideal man. I am so very thankful that I gave this series a second chance, because it is incredible. Please watch it.
seems interesting:O
I love it when you're like "ehhh nah" to some series books whatever, but later you're absolutely absorbed by it lmao
I'll add it to my watchlist:)

Hey, seeing how yet to come got over 60m views in two days and solo songs only getting this amount of views after a few months leaves me wondering what's causing this. Do you think most army left the fandom after they announced their hiatus in June? or have the fans completely turned into solo fans, and only support one member?
Hi! I don't think the fandom has abandoned BTS at all. Solo MVs have never received that many views compared to group MVs. Jungkook, for example, has legit never been more popular - between L&R, but especially Dreamers and CK, he's on a popularity high - but I highly doubt his next MV, even if it's a feature with Bieber, will break any YT records BTS (or Blackpink) set. It's not that fans have turned into solo fans, though I think there are more solo stans now, but it's that solos are some of the most passionate fans and they won't stream day and night for members they don't bias. They'll stream for OT7 though, at least for their bias(es). OT7 Army also prioritize OT7 MVs and won't generally make as much of an effort to stream solo MVs. They care much more about group accomplishments and records. To match OT7 views you would need the full power of the fandom and that's likely never going to happen for any member. We know many fans strongly prefer one member over the other, or even dislike certain members. OT7 music is also generally funner and the MVs are funner and more colorful too, which makes it easier for fans to stream them.
Also, remember the iHeart Radio Awards? Jungkook was nominated for best MV alongside BTS and nearly every Army voted for BTS. Only Jungkook stans and a few Jungkook biased Armys voted for him, and he lost to BTS. So solo stans are in no way more powerful than OT7 stans and, more importantly, stans of other members. I doubt Army has changed that much, but the ugly side of the fandom has become even more visible. There's a lot of competition between the members. Everyone wants their fave to break some record, so some fans might feel discouraged to stream another member that isn't their bias's song or MV...
How could most Army have left the fandom? Jimin only got n. 1 on the Hot 100 because a large part of the fandom made it happen, even with very strict rules against mass buying and streaming. BTS aren't losing fans. They might lose casual fans, who will only tune in again when BTS come back from enlistment, and some fans might lose some interest or become less active in the fandom, but I doubt they'll lose more than 10% of their core fanbase. Casual fans always come back when something new drops - plus, when BTS return a lot of people will be anticipating it so their comeback will be huge and they'll be able to build up a lot of momentum from it imo.
Oh, and also, I think it's becoming harder and harder to get views on YT. Fans have been complaining a lot about YT deleting or freezing views for Like Crazy. And don't forget Jimin's first week sales for FACE exceeded Butter and PTD's (or something like that)... Solo members have broken some records set by BTS, so the fandom is definitely still strong.
Thanks for the ask!
