You mentioned in your Firestar post that "what [Dracula]’s consuming is as much soul as anything else", which made me think: Chorby Soul from Blaseball?

Disadvantages:

Literally The Most Biteable Guy In The Universe. i'm not exaggerating, their main claim to fame is getting attacked by sharks* more than 200 times over the course of two seasons due to having a ridiculously huge amount of soul.

*(the sharks in question are not actual sharks; they're called Consumers and they're sharklike metaphors for financial debt that do also very literally eat players' souls and cause them physical injury. blaseball's a weird game.)

blaseball players, as a category, get hypnotized/mind-controlled on a regular basis; not only are there two normal teams able to use psychic powers/supernatural charm to make opposing players strike out or throw walks, there are multiple occasions where a god has taken control of an entire team's worth of players and used them in a boss battle against their former friends. and chorby was on one of the latter ones

also no way in hell they can free climb. they weren't very strong even before the shark attacks, which tanked all of their physical ability into the garbage

Advantages:

the same thing that makes them the most biteable guy in the universe also makes them uncommonly resilient to being bitten! so, in blaseball, a player is Redacted (basically, disappearing entirely with the potential to later reappear having Come Back Wrong) when they lose all their soul, and consumer attacks lower a player's soul by 1 each time. the highest soul a player can normally generate with is 9. chorby, before they started getting eaten by sharks, had 1777. even after many, many times the consumer attacks it would take to redact anyone else, they still have ~1400 more soul than any other player ever has. this doesn't protect them from the physical damage of consumer attacks, but vampire bites have gotta be a lot smaller than sharkbites

not only are they very familiar with the supernatural, due to living in the blaseball universe where the supernatural is just everywhere, they literally shared an apartment with a vampire for years. a much more benevolent vampire than dracula, but still!

oh yeah, chorby themself is already undead – they hold the blaseball record for Most Times Resurrected, in fact

also pretty chill with wolves. transylvanian wolves are unlikely to respect the damascus steel knives given out by the wolf-god of central park (again: blaseball is a weird game), but chorby's probably not scared of them!

I think this guy is what Dracula eats in his depressed rebellious phase when he's disillusioned with the Feelings of the Hunter and just wants to sit on his couch reading reruns of Dickens. He's like the magic pudding for vampires. One day Dracula is like "what am I doing with my unlife??? - screw it, I'm moving to England."

My love for JK Rowling: An essay

I've never simply loved someone just like that, other than my family. With me it's a meritocracy, always.

And so I went through the Potter books as a child and I thought "I love these books", but I was a child, I didn't care about the author. Then when I was older and her other books came out I began to read them purely because by then I knew that, from a literature point of view, she was a fantastic writer. That's when it really hit me: she was a fantastic writer for real.

I remember little of the story in The Casual Vacancy, but I remember finishing it feeling like "Oh my GOD". It was the first time I was sure Rowling had known proper poverty and misery, and the first time I became properly aware (also being older) of how incredibly compassionate and empathetic she is. I was so fucking impressed, touched and honestly, a little shocked. Everything else, from her other books to her articles and essays has gone on to prove beyond doubt, specially the more Literature and Language I studied, that her skills as a writer truly are beyond most writers. She's somewhat like Dostoievski, somewhat like Tolstoi, somewhat like Dickens, somewhat like Highsmith... yet somehow, like combining them all, removing their flaws and making it somehow better. Her books are like poetry in prose. It's incredible really. It's no wonder she got children to read.

But her books also speak of so much more than skill and talent. They describe her as a very awake writer, with eyes wide open to the worst and best of the universe, with a romantic and hopefully optimistic heart, with great empathy, compassion and humility. They show her as a very raw, very humane person, loving, mysterious, wise beyond her years and with a wonderful drive. She writes fantasy in a way that she creates this whole, enormous and fantastically comforting world for you to lose yourself in, she writes reality and people in a way that you can see them clearly and truly feel for them, she writes mystery and police work so that you cannot put it down even to breathe, and she writes for children somehow seamlessly putting huge topics in easy words, opening the child's mind and heart without them realising, making you laugh, cry and re-connect with your long-forgotten childhood for a little while again.

I've since re-read all of her work several times and in several languages, including the original English (which is to me the richest and the only way to discover all her true grandiosity). I cannot doubt, not now and not ever, that we won't have a writer like her perhaps ever. She and Tolkien would've definitely made a dangerously great team, but what can we expect from the land of Austen, Bröntes, Lewis and so on? Greatness is the only option. The extra gift with Rowling that not every writer gives you is that the more you re-read, the more new, wonderful bits you find. Suddenly you understand a new meaning you didn't catch before, suddenly something hits you a little harder or a little deeper. Like, I remember going back to Harry Potter after losing a parent, and crying, healing, and feeling so, so understood and seen and comforted. It was a cathartic experience, as it always is, the way this woman speaks to you.

I only got an interest into who Rowling was as a person about a decade and a half into beginning to read her books, and it was only a pleasant surprise to discover that she truly is as great as a person as she seems in her books. Many writers are disappointing, leading you to believe they're wonderful people, as it happens with actors as well, only to disappoint you. So it was a delight to find out Rowling truly does care about social causes, supporting so many and doing so much work in charity and giving, that she used her money to change the world for the better and to help, among many causes, people with the same disease that took her own mother, and that she's a feminist, a lioness mother who wants the best for children, specially the more vulnerable ones, and for women. And that's when I truly fell in love with her, because how couldn't I?

3.whose writing has impacted your writing style the most? (you can choose anyone! famous writer or not.)

I'm really not sure at this point, to be honest! Once upon a time I could have confidently stated Victor Hugo and Charles Dickens, but I have to read widely with my job and I don't think I gravitate towards any one style anymore. When I was working on my novel, I definitely gravitated towards Jules Verne, but that project has been shelved for a few years. I think Marjorie Liu is my biggest inspiration right now, just in the sense that she can transform the mundane into fantastical elements with ease. I think there's something profound about being able to make everyday events the really compelling part of a fantasy, and I hope I can capture some of that.

4. which muse of yours is your all time favorite? if you stopped writing them: why?

I don't know if I can say I have favorites. I've loved almost every character I've played, and those that I didn't have a weird story that is stupid rp drama and I might get into that at some point. I guess the cop out answer is to say my favorite is whoever I'm playing at the moment, but the one I hold the most nostalgia for is Mrs. Lovett of Sweeney Todd fame. She's also the character I played the longest, as well as through the most changes in my life. I started playing her in my Sophomore year of high school and really didn't stop until the year after college, so she was definitely a comfort character. I stopped playing her because I'd really done everything I could with her. I'm absolutely a believer in the idea that you don't necessarily outgrow a character, but I do think there's a point where you can shelve them. I've done this with a few OC's as well, but by the end, I'd done so much with Margery that she really felt like my own. I took her through so many alternative universes, so many interactions, I really explored everything I cared to with her. Occasionally I think back on her nostalgically, but I don't feel the need to bring her back.

13. what themes/motifs do you hope other people notice most about your character?

I think that hope is a strong motif in BoTW/AoC anyway, but I think there's a very specific kind of hope that Urbosa embodies - mature, knowledgeable hope. She doesn't blindly believe they'll win because they're on the right side of history - she knows that it's just as likely that evil prevails, for however brief a time. She also doesn't think they alone are enough to stop the calamity, or that they're doomed because of that. She knows that life will always find a way, and she believes in her goddaughter and teammates. That hope keeps her afloat, and spreads to anybody on her team or in her country.

Once Madison and Nick disappeared from the picture, the new core cast members outnumbered the three holdovers, who didn’t even appear in the Season 4 premiere until its final few seconds.Īs I wrote at the time, Fear felt for one episode like a promising blank slate, and while the franchise’s history made me skeptical that the series could sustain that sense of freedom, the episodes since that time double down on breaking new ground for both Fear and the franchise. The new co-showrunners also brought in new blood (with more on the way), led by Garret Dillahunt as lovestruck lawman John Dorie, Jenna Elfman as John’s skittish but beloved Laura, and Maggie Grace as former war correspondent Althea, or Al. Chambliss and Goldberg also decided to kill off Fear’s two most central characters, Madison (Kim Dickens, who didn’t want to leave) and Nick (Frank Dillane, who asked off the series), which left Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) as the sole remaining member of the Clark-Manawa clan - which had numbered five when Fear began - and Strand (Colman Domingo) and Luciana (Danay Garcia) as her sole surviving companions. Part of that variety involved making cast changes: The Walking Dead’s Morgan (Lennie James), who had starred in Gimple-written episodes including “Clear” and “Here’s Not Here,” crossed over, which meant writing in a two-year jump to bring the prequel spinoff into temporal alignment with its antecedent series. Leaning on what has worked in the past, I don’t think it works after nine years. And after all these years, that’s what’s so critical. “The anxiety never ends,” Gimple says, while adding, “New voices allow for new stories.

Steering a series, Gimple says by phone, is a “triple full-time job” that sometimes benefits from a tag team, and so when AMC asked him whom he had in mind, he recalls, “I said those two guys instantly.”Ĭhambliss ( Dollhouse, The Vampire Diaries) and Goldberg ( Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, FlashForward), who are veteran writers and producers of genre shows, were fans of Robert Kirkman’s comics as well as the TV series that spawned Fear, and over the phone, Chambliss says that he and Goldberg were eager to embrace The Walking Dead universe’s capacity for “larger-than-life characters” to “have these very emotional stories against this fantastical genre background.” To do that, though, they wanted to depict that universe differently than Fear had to that point, which involved some amount of risk. Or, as it turned out, two: Gimple had previously collaborated with Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg on non– Walking Dead projects, and the two prospective hires had worked together as producers of Once Upon a Time. In response, Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple - who would soon relinquish his own showrunner role after eight seasons to take over as chief content officer for the Walking Dead franchise - joined Fear as an executive producer and helped oversee the search for a replacement showrunner. Season 3 showrunner Dave Erickson stepped down from the show and transitioned to a multiyear development deal with AMC. The break between seasons 3 and 4 was a time of turmoil for Fear. The drastic restructuring seems to have had the intended effect: After suffering steep declines in Fear’s second and third seasons, the ratings have stabilized (and even slightly rebounded) this year.Īttempting to start fresh in Season 4 was an even taller order for Fear, but the spinoff, which was recently renewed for a fifth season and returned from a hiatus on Sunday for the second half of Season 4, has made the makeover work, morphing into a weirder, wilder, and more adventurous show that stands apart from - and in some ways surpasses - the franchise flagship. Saddled with dwindling ratings and an indistinct identity at the end of its third season, The Walking Dead’s less celebrated descendant embarked on an ambitious reboot that tried to do for Fear what critically acclaimed course corrections had done for HBO’s The Leftovers and AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire in their second seasons. The redesigned intro was just the first indication of a comprehensive overhaul that extended to every aspect of the show, from the creative team to the cast to the visual style, storytelling approach, and episode structure. “It feel like I’m watching Fear the Walking Dead.” For the stewards of the series, though, changing what watching Fear feels like was the idea. “It feels so out of place,” one YouTube commenter said. For some longtime Fear fans, the new look was jarring.

Chuck Fic Rec List: Updated

So my fic rec post was in my notifs again the other day, and I noticed a while back that the formatting on the post has gotten all messed up and it’s also had like three reblog additions to it anyway meaning there are three versions out there lol. so, I wanted to do another list of chuck fic recs! I’ll keep the other one up still, so I’m not gonna repeat every fic here, just some I really recommend. A genuinely incredible AU story, with an entire crafted world and universe, so detailed it frequently blows my mind. There is heart and family and infuriatingly brilliant slow-burn, plus a buttload of danger and super fun historical/steampunk action. Oh how I LOVE it.

An action and twist-filled AU based on the movie Charade, which is just such a brilliant fic concept I absolutely adored it from the start.

When you're a spy, there's all kinds of occupational hazards when you work with another spy. For Sarah Walker, though, one mission becomes a life-changing experience. Because working with Charles Carmichael leads to protecting Chuck Bartowski.

The first time I read this fic my mind was just blown to its genius. Such a brilliant interpretation of what the Intersect and its concepts set up in the show could be, and ooooof the Chuck/Sarah interactions, my HEART. Related to it, its companion piece:

I said it on the OG post, but this story has one of my top 5 Chuck/Sarah fic meetings. So funny, so... very Chuck. The story is a little angsty overall, but a great read.

When a rogue spy from Chuck Bartowski's past shows up to help him during his first solo mission, Chuck hopes that he'll finally find out what happened to Sarah Walker. Post-S2 AU.

There’s a lot of Season 3 fix-it fics out there, which I don’t usually read bc I actually love season 3 lol, but this one’s a good one! A twisty deviation from canon, but still feels really true to character.

Chuck Versus the Nerds Rewrite | Steampunk.Chuckster and David Carner

What happens when two nerds talk endless hours about their favorite TV show? A new take on the show you know, but with the flair, twists, and turns you've come to expect from Steampunk . Chuckster and david . carner. Somewhat canon. Charah.

As the summary says, a different take on the show, which honestly makes a couple changes I would too, but also adds a bunch of fun twists and plots that make it totally new and fresh. Seeing Chuck and Sarah’s thoughts in the more canon sections is just delicious, too.

A warning for the very justified M rating if you don’t like that sort of thing, but this is definitely a plot-heavy fic, too. A really neat Sarah-heavy AU, with a whole lotta Chuck/Sarah fancy French vacationy goodness.

Chuck vs the Second Chance | malamoo

AU from mid-season 2 and onwards. Chuck and Sarah part ways only to be reunited years later. COMPLETE.

Literal, crying-at-my-screen angst. Not even a super happy ending. But a brilliantly written, part-reflective/flashback fic, exploring what would’ve happened if Chuck and Sarah’s relationship really was an assignment all along-- and the aftermath. It’s heartbreaking. But if you want a little heartbreak, this is your fic.

Ready at Your Hand | dettiot

In the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, a Catholic plot against the queen comes to the attention of spymaster Sir Francis Walsingham. To protect Elizabeth, he develops an unusual plan: hide the passing of intelligence between two agents by a false romance. When Lady Sarah Walker and Chuck Carmichael meet, though, their pretend flirtation becomes much more.

I love Chuck fic for the very reason that it’s inspired such adventurous and totally unique AUs. Here’s some Elizabethan fake-dating Chuck and Sarah! They have to be so Proper, it’s like that hand moment from Pride and Prejudice but Elizabethan and times a billion. The pining!!

Sarah Versus Getting Married | Steampunk.Chuckster

I’d recommend all of SC’s fics if I had the room, and I’m already recommending a ton sksks but most of my fic recs are AUs, and this one isn’t! It’s canon, and covers some of in the gap in 4x24, with Sarah just before the wedding itself. Super sweet, heart-tugging, brilliant.

A Chuckmas Carol | Mikki13

A new twist to Dickens' beloved "A Christmas Carol". When Sarah begins to shut out the world around her, three spirits come to show her the error of her ways. Season 3 AU.

Another Season 3 AU, this one written pre-series so it definitely doesn’t fit to canon, but it’s still wonderfully rich in character depth and angst and it also made me cry. Plus, festive!

Chuck Versus Thin Ice | Steampunk.Chuckster

On the doorstep of the Olympics, top American curler Sarah Walker has lost her mixed doubles partner and her boyfriend in one fell swoop. Her coaches throw newbie Team U.S.A. curler Chuck Bartowski onto her team and thrust them into the Olympics, hanging America's curling hopes on two people who only have a short amount of time to learn to trust one another. Charah AU.

Do you like curling? Or the Winter Olympics? It doesn’t really matter because somehow this fic made me extremely invested in both of those things, as well as Chuck and Sarah and them being INSUFFERABLE. Catch me now knowing a ton about curling thanks to this fic.

The original version of this fic is on my first list; this is the updated version! It’s not a complete AU, instead a story that diverges from canon, so if you’re more into canon characters and setting than a new AU scenario, this is a great fic for that.

David’s done something pretty special with this fic. It’s Chuck and Sarah centric, but very much an ensemble piece, too, with a lot of Team Bartowski and other familiar faces throughout.

Chuck Versus the Con Game | Steampunk.Chuckster

AU. Chuck and Sarah are partners in the con game. It's an existence wrought with danger and violence. Every day could be their last. Every mission could be the end of the line.

This is where I freak out SC and declare this fic the reason I ever got hooked on Chuck fic and then wrote Chuck fic, and the reason I still love it today but. that is true lol. Just so. so good. It’s also written with the chapters out of chronological order, which is super fun from a reading perspective. But con!Sarah AND con!Chuck?? Best. The kind of fic you will be thinking about for days (if not, y’know, years).

As you can tell by the repeats, I highly recommend just about anything by Steampunk.Chuckster, dettiot, or David Carner, but there are a TON of amazing Chuck fics and authors out there. I’ve never known a writing community so wildly creative-- there are so many unique AUs and canon explorations and story concepts that this show has manifested, and it’s all so much fun.

Most of the Chuck fic community is still over on FFN rather than AO3, so if any of these whet your appetite, feel free to have a browse there for more stories. I’m sure you’ll find something great. Personally, all the incredible writing there has also led me to write a buttload; I’m at halfachance on FFN, so if you see any of my stuff or wanna chat fic, feel free to message me there or here.

Concept for “Loki” season two:

Midway into the season, Loki, Sylvie, Mobius, and B-15 realize that in order to stop the Second Multiversal War from happening, they need to steal the files regarding the dawn of time. However, since a variant of Kang the Conqueror is running the TVA now, the heroes realize they need back-up in order to pull off the file heist.

Team Loki starts recruiting other variants across the multiverse. Since they’re being hunted by the TVA, they only have a few chances to build their team, forcing them to choose their members wisely. Of the heroes in the multiverse, Team Loki agrees on:

1) Peter Maximoff from the X-Men universe (Evan Peters reprises his role). Since this is a heist, Team Loki realizes that someone with super speed can come in handy.

2) A heroic version of Thanos (Josh Brolin reprises his role). Thanos is brought in as the muscle of the team.

3) A female version of Tony Stark / Iron Man (played by Kim Dickens). Tony is brought in as the brains of the team.

4) A version of Peter Parker who has become the Punisher, making him the Spider-Punisher (Tom Holland reprises his role). Peter is brought in for his spidey-sense, which could work as a potential alarm and a way to check for traps. Since this is a Punisher version of Peter, it’s Tom Holland channeling Arvin Russell instead of his usual Peter.

The file heist ends up being the focus of the last two episodes of season 2. The eight-man team sneaks into the TVA headquarters to steal Kang’s top-secret files, which will help explain how Kang managed to rule over the timestream, what happened to the real Time-Keepers, and how he can be stopped.

In terms of what happens to the team, the team succeeds in their heist but Heroic Thanos is killed by Kang the Conqueror, Peter Maximoff gets thrown into the MCU where he meets Wanda Maximoff, and Female Tony and Spider-Punisher are returned to their timelines. Loki, Sylvie, Mobius, and B-15 manage to get away in time, leading into the next installment of the Kang arc.
