Using she/her, how about a kakegurui one where R(eader) is a relative of Yumeko's, maybe her sister (or cousin could work too), and it's like. Yumeko's the fun loving one, her canon sister I imagine is the calm one, and R is like the angry takes no shit from anyone type, and she's there to watch over Yumeko's trouble attracting ass to keep her inline, so to focus on that, she doesn't gamble (Yumeko does enough of that for both of them) but now that's making trouble turn to R instead in the form of an infuriating Kirari, R like back talks to her and would probably bite a hand that gets too close if she has to, and when Kirari in one (underhanded) way or another manages to corner R into a gambling match with some poor soul so Kirari can observe her, R shows that she's just as good and insane as her relatives (though calms down faster?) , aaaahh I don't know what else to add on or how to end this, can't think much this late so here you go!! The Jabami Blood Flows

A/N: Here it is! Sorry I didn’t really get into the gamble. I couldn’t make myself research exactly how craps works and I’m not smart enough to calculate any math or cheats. The canon gambling timeline might be a little messed up too because it’s been awhile… But I think I captured the spirit of what you were asking for. Thanks for reading! Word Count: 2,523

(Y/n) couldn’t remember what life was like when her parents were alive, nor could she really remember what her oldest sister Souko was like before Yumeko had to send her away to live in that special hospital. All she knew was that life as a Bami was eat or be eaten, take or be taken from, and she hated it.

When Yumeko told (Y/n) of her plans to transfer to Hyakkaou, she was dead set against her going. That was where she went to school, Momobami Kirari. The one who had a hand in their older sister’s decline in mental health along with their own aunt. However, nothing that she said to Yumeko could get her to change her mind. So (Y/n) did what any good and responsible sister would do and filled out her own transfer papers so she could tag along.

It was difficult keeping track of Yumeko when they were two years apart, especially when the middle school was in a separate wing of the sprawling building.

But after she had heard about Yumeko becoming a house pet within the first week, (Y/n) had nearly blown a gasket. In retaliation, she quickly sized up the casino disguised as a school and realized the students could do basically whatever they wanted. (Y/n) was disciplined, a diligent worker and good student, so she got all of her schoolwork ahead of time and did it at home so she could keep an eye on Yumeko throughout the day.

She allowed Yumeko to take part in the Debt Swapping Game to undo the damage she had done to herself and her “new friend” Saotome, but after that (Y/n) was all over her… not that her nagging was very affective, unfortunately.

“You’re so cute when you pout!” Yumeko gushed, squeezing (Y/n)’s cheeks.

(Y/n) grabbed her sister’s wrists and groaned, “Neesan, I’m serious! No more gambling! We have the money, pay off the debt so you can stop wearing that ridiculous tag!”

“Sweet little sister, always looking out for me. You don’t worry so much, okay? I want to keep this tag just for awhile longer.”

“Why? It makes no sense, people treat you worse than an animal!” (Y/n) only got more upset the longer this conversation dragged on, “Get rid of it!”

“I’m not going to do that,” Yumeko smiled, somehow so carefree, “it makes for some really interesting gambles!”

“You’re so stupid!” (Y/n) suddenly yelled, finally shocking the smile off of Yumeko’s face, replaced by mild surprise, “It’s like you want to end up like Oneesan, you want to leave me all alone!”

“(Y/n)—“ Yumeko reached out her hand to (Y/n) but she ran passed her and kept running until she found an empty classroom to cry in.

She couldn’t cry forever though, and soon fell into a quiet, simmering anger that began to boil the more she thought about how their lives had come to this.

“Momobami Kirari.” She hissed hatefully. She ruined Souko and was in the process of taking Yumeko away from her too. Well, (Y/n) wasn’t going to standby quietly.

She wiped her eyes and and stood up, tromping through the halls, she followed the signs until she came to the Student Council room and without bothering to knock, she pushed the door open with a loud thump, making the pair that resided within look up.

“You can’t just charge in here like that!” Sayaka was quick to reprimand.

But Kirari put up a hand, “Don’t be troubled, Sayaka. It’s just one of my dear little cousins paying me a visit. I’d recognize a Jabami anywhere. Care for tea, (Y/n)? I haven’t seen you since you were quite small, you’ve grown a lot.”

“Jabami…” Sayaka’s mood soured a bit more. One Jabami was already one snake too many.

“And you look very cute in the middle school uniform.” Kirari continued on, tilting her head towards Sayaka, “I remember your middle school days Sayaka, you looked very cute in that uniform too, although this one is nice as well.” She tugged on the hem of Sayaka’s jacket for emphasis.

“Thah- thank you, President.” And like that, Sayaka was subdued, but still a little wary of their impromptu guest.

“I don’t want your stupid tea, or small talk!” (Y/n) yelled. “I want you to get rid of the house pet system!”

“You can’t just storm in here and demand such a thing!” Sayaka bristled.

“Ah, is Yumeko refusing to pay off her debt?” Kirari sat back in her chair slightly, “Unfortunately for you, I’m not inclined to accept your request. Your sister is just too fun to watch.”

“I hate you!” (Y/n) seethed, Kirari’s eyes widened, but it was clear amusement rather than surprise at the outburst, “I hate what the Bami clan is under your rule! If it was someone else— if things could have been different— My parents would be alive, Souko wouldn’t be in the hospital and you wouldn’t be trying to take Yumeko from me right now! I hate gambling! I hate that when people gamble, they are risking the happiness of people they are supposed to care about too! I hate you for pitting everyone against each other all the time! You have the power to stop all this before we all destroy each other for good, but you don’t use it, and I despise you for it!”

“Oh my,” Kirari cupped her between her thumb and index fingers, “so much resentment for a girl so young. Are you sure you aren’t Saotome’s little sister?” She chuckled.

“This isn’t funny!”

“Is it not? I find it a bit amusing at least. For someone with Jabami blood flowing through her veins, you are very adamantly going against your nature. It’s interesting. You might be one to watch as well.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

“I think Yumemi has plans for your sister today. You might want to start making your way to the auditorium to cheer her on.” Kirari said instead, steepling her fingers in front of her coral blue lips.

A look of realization and then dread fell over (Y/n)’s face. She gave Kirari one more glare, then bolted from the student council room.

“What a rude girl!” Sayaka huffed. “Has she no respect for upperclassmen at all?”

“Easy Sayaka,” Kirari soothed with a teasing lilt, “I think my week just became a little more interesting.”

In the days after Yumeko’s admittedly unique gamble against Yumemi, (Y/n) had taken to giving her dear older sister the cold shoulder. It made Yumeko sad and pouty of course, but until she could promise (Y/n) that she was done gambling for good, (Y/n) refused to talk to her. She started going back to her classes like normal instead of following her sister around and did her best not to think about all the bad situations Yumeko could be putting herself through.

But she couldn’t ignore her sister for long, not when an unfamiliar upperclassman came to her classroom to summon her for a gamble. Apparently, Yumeko had got herself in a lot more trouble than (Y/n) had dared thought possible, or so the house pet had claimed.

“Where is she? Yumeko!” (Y/n) ran into the room, only turning around when she heard the door lock behind her. “Hey! What are you doing? Open the door!”

“That was a lot easier than I thought it would be.”

(Y/n) whipped her head to the back of the room to see a tired looking upperclassman, another house pet, sitting at a fancy craps table in front of a large mirror that almost took up the whole wall.

“I’ve been waiting for an opportunity like this to get back at Jabami for what she and Saotome did to me at that damn debt swapping game. You’re her little sister, right? What am I saying, of course you are.”

“What do you want? Who are you?” (Y/n) asked defensively.

“Kiwatari Jun.” The upperclassman answered with a smirk, “And I’m gonna turn you into a house pet.”

“Like hell you are. You can’t force someone into a gamble unless they are part of the council. Unlock the door.” (Y/n) commanded, but Jun chuckled darkly.

“You’re right, I can’t make you do anything, but the door is locked from the outside, and I don’t have the key.”

“Then I guess we’re just stuck here forever until we die.” (Y/n) hotly retorted.

“Not the case,” he knocked on the mirror behind him. “See this, it’s a one way window. People can see us, but we can’t see them. Once we gamble, someone will come and let us out.”

“I’m not going to gamble you.”

“You will. Word is your sister is going on a gambling tear without you yapping in her ear. She’s got a real big gamble coming up today with that crazy Beautification Committee officer. You know, the one who likes swinging a gun around.”

“Yumeko already gambled her and was disappointed. She wants nothing to do with Ikishima now.” (Y/n) had really hated that gamble. It was exceedingly frightening. She was glad Yumeko had been put off by Midari’s recklessness in some shape.

“She came up with a new gamble that really has your sister going. Safe to say she’s giving her another chance. I don’t expect you to believe me, but is it really a risk your willing to take? If you aren’t there… you might not see her again.”

(Y/n)’s blood froze. She didn’t want to believe this guy, in fact, she was sure he was lying, but her fear of losing Yumeko was stronger than reason. Saving Yumeko was the only thing she could think of that was truly worth gambling for…

“What is the game?” She finally asked through gritted teeth.

“Craps,” he swept his arm over the table, “A simple dice game, what do you say?”

“I want to test the dice.”

Jun exhaled though his nose, “Not a gambler, huh? You sure seem to know what to look for.”

“When you grow up in the world that I have, you can’t help but pick up a thing or two.” (Y/n) sat down at the opposite side of the table, she could feel her heartbeat picking up like it would at the starting line of a race, or before reading a speech in class. She hated the feeling. She hated how her body loved the feeling. The excitement of doing something that felt totally crazy.

Despite not remembering her mother very well, she was definitely her daughter. That blood flowed through her veins as it did with Yumeko and Souko. A red glow briefly reflected off of her eyes.

“Are we doing this, or not?”

All of Jun’s little tricks were exposed round after round, but even if (Y/n) had let them slide, she was rolling perfectly every time, a skill she had picked up by merely watching Souko practice as a toddler, just a baby even. If she wasn’t so dead set against gambling, she could probably be making millions of yen a week. Her playing style reminded Jun more of Mary, but every once in awhile, she’d make an absolutely insane call that could only be something a Jabami would ever think to do.

It didn’t take long before all of the money the student council had leant him was on the other side of the table and with it, his dreams of freeing himself from his house pet chains. Now he was another four million yen in the hole.

“No… you’re just a snot-nosed middle schooler!” He hissed, pounding his fists against the table, making the dice and chips clink together. “I was supposed to win.”

“Idiot.” (Y/n) smirked, the red gleam appeared in her eyes once more, “Don’t you know nothing is guaranteed in gambling, nothing but disappointment for someone anyway.” She got up from her chair, not even caring to take her winnings with her. “A pity a had to lose my no gambling streak because of you. You weren’t even a challenge.”

She walked over to the door, pleased to see it was already opening in anticipation of her approach. She was a little surprised to see it was Sayaka who opened the door, however. She was even more surprised when Sayaka pulled her forward and a zapping noise met her ears, followed by a heavy object hitting the ground. She turned to see Jun curled up on the floor and saw the taser in Sayaka’s hand. He must have been coming up to attack her for humiliating him so badly.

“You never learn, do you, Kiwatari?” Sayaka tisked, “Lose with dignity for once.”

“Thank you for the show, Jabami (Y/n).” Kirari rounded the corner seconds later. She must have been watching from the other side of the glass. Suddenly this impromptu gamble was making a lot more sense. Jun didn’t seem smart enough to come up with a scheme like this himself.

“I should have paired you up with someone interesting, but I wanted to see what I was working with first. You did not disappoint. We will have to do something like this again soon.”

“No way,” (Y/n) could already feel herself coming down from the brief high of gambling a upperclassman into submission, “I’m not going to let you catch me in a position like this again. No way in hell! Yumeko isn’t even in trouble, is she?”

Kirari smiled, “No, she’s not. However, I’m sure I could make an offer or two you simply would not be able to refuse. Whether it’s to forbid your sister from gambling in this school again, ending the house pet system, dethroning me as student council president, or even as the head of the Bami clan, I’m sure we could work something out. I think it would be really exciting for us to gamble one day.”

(Y/n) hated the shiver of excitement that ran up her spine. There were a couple of options in that short list she wouldn’t mind seeing to fruition, yet she shook her head and bumped into Kirari as she passed her.

“Just stay away from me!”

“I’ll be seeing you around, (Y/n). Have a good rest of your day.” Kirari waved, watching (Y/n) stomp away with amusement.

“Oh, (Y/n)?” Yumeko was surprised that after days of the cold shoulder, (Y/n) had sought her out for a hug, but she was very happy for the suprise affection to say the least and instantly returned the embrace. “You’re being so sweet to me! What brought this on, I wonder?”

“Don’t gamble with Ikishima ever again, got it?” (Y/n) ordered, “And always make sure you have your phone on you so I can ask you what you’re up to, okay?”

“Okay, okay!” Yumeko giggled, “You don’t have to worry. That person you just mentioned is dead to me anyway.”

A strangled moan of Yumeko’s name could be heard in the distance, but no one acknowledged it.

“Hey,” Yumeko’s eyes lit up, “let’s go do something fun this weekend. Just you and me, anything you want, okay?”

A small smile worked its way onto (Y/n)’s lips and she nodded, hugging her sister tighter.

“Yeah!”

Definitely is the favorite boyfriend, dear god, you bring him and everyone's like OMG IT'S IBARA LET'S GOOOOOOO

He loves arriving every time because he's always welcomed by the tios, tias and primos, everyone literally loves him so much

He's the kind of guy to show up and all of the older cousins just go AYYY QUE ONDA VATO while doing the hug thing boys do when they smack each other's backs

The kids love him and he loves the kids, they especially love how he will occasionally arm wrestle them and purposefully lets them win

Sorry, he's not your boyfriend anymore, you're sharing him with everyone because everyone wants to spend time with this man

He knows how to dance to all the latin genres. this is canon now, he can do a mean bachata and cumbia, but he’s actually so good with merengue like man takes you into his arms and bam, everyone’s jealous of both of you and how well you dance

Helps the tias with the food

Eats a lot of everything, he loves the tamales de pollo, i guarantee it

His favorite songs are La Dueña del Swing, Lambada (the original version), and Suavemente, he just dances to all of these with you

If its a birthday, he takes some cake back home for Rin

Oh, the tios are actually wary of him at first but the tias just swoop in to give him food and constantly say "te traigo otro plato? necesitas comer mas!" 

Poor man will not say no because he doesn't want to offend your family and wants to make a good first impression

The older cousins definitely question him and then they decide that he's cool, so they drag him with them to go to the nearest store

He likes talking with the babies, he's so nice to them

I bet he’s a fan of Enrique Iglesias and probably listens to his songs a lot; Cuando Me Enamoro, Donde Estan Corazon?, and No Me Digas Que No are on his top tracks because he thinks about you when he listens to these songs

At first, the family thought that he would break your heart but by the end of the day, he actually loves these reunions a lot and they are all harboring a secret soft spot for him

This girl is a threat, everyone loves her because of how lively she is

The older cousins also love her a lot and make her join their card games all the time; you're gonna have to tell her that no, she cannot gamble with them because they will go broke because of her

She flatters the tias so much, they all love her dearly and they constantly ask you to bring her around

The younger cousins LOVE playing with her and she’s the one that amuses them; plays hide and seek with them a lot and she can see them but she pretends as though she can’t

Girl could give a run for their money when it comes to dancing, the other couples could never

She’s dancing bachata, cumbia, merengue, and salsa with you and no matter what your dancing level is, she ALWAYS makes you look good with her

Her hair is so long and the tias all want to practice hairstyles on her; she patiently lets them and says something like, “Oh, I look so good in this hairstyle! Thank you so much!”

When it’s time to play the loteria, somehow, she’s beating everyone in each and every round

Cue to her shouting “LOTERIA” very excitedly and everyone’s like “nombre niña, estas bien loca”

Bring her around for every family reunion, she’s suddenly part of the family and everyone is expecting your wedding now

━ MIDARI IKISHIMA ;

She terrifies the younger cousins and the older cousins are like “WOW YOU’RE SO COOL JOIN US”

Probably dances hardcore to reggaeton, like she knows how to dance to it and it’s impressive if it wasn’t for the fact that she’s half tempted to dance reggaeton on the brick wall 

Takes three plates at a time and somehow balances the paper plates with no problem, it’s a talent and unfortunately, she will not share her food with you because everything smells good and she’s going to try everything

The carne asada makes her astroproject, probably goes back to ask the tio at the grill for more (make sure to pull her away before she asks for him to just pile it all on her plate, she needs to leave some for the others)

One of the younger cousins timidly asks her how she got her eyepatch; with one look at you, she delves into a tale on how she lost her eye to some pirates

She’s a great storyteller so the kids are in fits of giggles and wonder by the end of her tall tale, then they think she’s not that scary anymore and drag her to play with them against her own will

Oh god, if there’s a piñata, she is DEMOLISHING it, this is why everyone places her at the back because she’s not going to give anyone else a chance

Doesn’t even care about the candy, but she probably takes a lollipop or two to take to Runa

The tios think she’s cool so they ask for her to come around more but trust me, she scares the daylights out of the tias so they are not too eager for her to come back

━ ITSUKI SUMERAGI ;

She is having the TIME OF HER LIFE 

She thinks that your family is so much fun, because everyone’s all over the place but everyone joins in with the others

Definitely plays pool with the guys and she ends up beating them all; hence for the rest of the party, all of them try to defeat her but none of them can

Eats so much and she’s pouring all the compliments onto the tias and they’re actually bonding over her nails and how cute they are

Cut to you going to the bathroom for a few moments and when you come back, they’re gossiping about some major drama happening between a CEO of some company and one of Itsuki’s father’s employees

When it’s time to go dance, she is dancing with reckless abandon with you

Probably knows the song Lamento Boliviano, requests it and when it’s on, she’s jumping up and down with you, screaming the lyrics at the top of her lungs

Listens to Pitbull, I’m not hearing any criticism, probably requests him too so that she’s bouncing around the dance floor, screaming the lyrics at the top of her lungs

When it comes to the pan con cafe and there’s a lot of it, she’s probably stealing a slice of the tres leches and a bunch of conchas and other sweet bread, she’s gotta have a taste for everything

Dips some of her bread in coffee because you tell her it’s good like that, it’s become her favorite snack now, she’ll definitely take more sweet bread home so that she can dip them in coffee

You gossip with her about the beef you have with some of your primas and she’s like O_O while looking at said person

She cannot keep it on the downlow, but she’s so much fun to gossip with

When you said carne asada, she assumed a family reunion and she didn’t get dressed up but when she walked in, she saw how underdressed she was compared to everyone else

She’s so embarrassed, poor girl, she wants to go home and change immediately

Mary is so awkward at first, she doesn’t know what to do so she sits on the sofa the whole time until one of the bolder cousins walks over to talk to her and eventually, she’s engaged in conversation with the others

The primos are cool with her and the primas are asking her what’s her skincare routine as well as what she does with her hair

You have to smack a drink out of her hand because it was an abandoned alcoholic drink

Mary sees the ring that the older primos have made where they’re chanting drunkenly while forcing someone to be in the middle of the circle dancing, she is terrified

She does a simple two step dance with you but when she sees the others dancing bachata at a speed unknown to man, she literally says, “Teach me how to dance to that.”

Records videos of you dancing with a family friend’s son, cackling while you look lost and confused

She eats a lot of the food, definitely likes the sweet stuff

Oh God, she takes one bite of the tres leches, you turn away and suddenly she’s back with the entire tray and everyone is too drunk or immersed in whatever they’re doing to catch her

Takes the tray home, she won’t share unfortunately

She loves your family, they may be a little overboard but they are a lot of fun

━ KIRARI MOMOBAMI ;

She’s hesitant at first because she’s scared that your family will think that she’s a monster or she’s going to drive you away or something on that line because of her status

Turns out, none of them know her, they’re all just secretly judging her so that they see if she will gain their approval or not

But the first people that interact with her are the kids, mainly because they see her hairstyle and think that it’s really pretty

The most drunk tio goes over to her and just slurs out, “Have you ever seen a tree?”

“Yes.”

“Have you seen two trees? One of them’s always gotta be leaning to the right.”

Kirari does not understand a word he says but you’re howling with laughter at how confused she looks and how this uncle is always the one trying to give advice but sounding absolutely out of his mind

If there are goodie bags, she takes five of them. No, they are not for anyone but her. 

She’s definitely involved with the chisme, she’s always saying stuff that happens at her school

Kirari: And so, the girl ended up going back to her ex--

The tias: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

She has a lot of fun watching your family have fun but she does dance with you at some point

She doesn’t even realize what time it is, but it’s midnight when she checks and yet the party is still going strong which makes her worry: “When does the party end?”

A bunch of primos are running past, yelling about how the sad songs haven’t come up yet; she’s slightly concerned but more amused

━ RIRIKA MOMOBAMI ;

She’s another one that’s really shy about being there because she doesn’t think that she should be there since it’s a family reunion

You assure her that “a bunch of my older cousins are gonna arrive with their own significant others”

When she gets there, she finds out that there’s a running joke about the significant others being in a club about not being “officially” part of the family

The tias dote on her so much and they’re like “ay que linda es!! es tan bonita!!”

She has to endure them asking about her hair and what she puts in it because it’s so healthy; also has to deal with the tias trying to put her hair into different hairstyles

She’s determined not to sit around so she timidly asks if she can help with anything; cue her actually enjoying her time with the tias as they serve food

Says that it’s the best food she’s tasted in a while (secretly thinks it’s because it’s homemade with love and she’s had food that was not made with the same kind of love)

When she goes home, she immediately asks you if she can go to more of your family reunions

They might have been very rowdy but they actually acted like the family that she wished she had

━ SAYAKA IGARASHI ;

Automatically, when she walks in, everyone can already see that she’s so good to you so it’s funny when everyone immediately treats her like  family and she’s like ???? I don’t know any of you ????

The tias ADORE her, they think she’s so fun

“Eres la secretaria de la presidenta?” They are so impressed by her being Kirari’s secretary and they are asking if she has any beef with anyone

Poor Sayaka gets caught up with the drunk tios offering advice and money to which you literally tell her, “Tell them whatever, just get that money.”

The kids think that she’s so pretty and the youngest cousin actually asks her, “Are you a princess?”

She gets her hair braided by the drunk tias that are ranting about men and especially their ex husbands, she gets all the chisme and you're shaking her to tell you because your aunts won't even tell you the time of the day

Goes to a room and finds a sleeping baby there and she's like, "Why is there a whole child here?"

Probably can do a little two step but she isn't as crazy as the others

She really likes being there, your family is welcoming but damn, the drama going on is better than the one at school

━ RUNA YOMOZUKI ;

She’s so much fun, she fits right in at the party to the point where you doubt if she doesn’t have some latin blood in her

The second she walks in, she’s greeting everyone like they’re old friends even though none of them know her but they’re greeting back eagerly, she even goes up to the shyest person and eagerly says hi to them

A menace when it comes to dancing, she steps on your feet and she also dances with other people, she’s just a chaotic mess when dancing but she’s trying and that’s what matters

The food is incredible to her, but the sweets are even better; she steals so many bags of chips and shoves them in her bag as she tries more of the sweets

The cake is Mil Hojas and with one slice, she’s already in love with this cake, says yes automatically when your aunt offers her more cake

Nah because she's a menace at video games, she plays with your primos and beats every single one of them

Has made some children cry when she wins and she doesn't even flinch, she just eats another lollipop

Enjoys the parties and if she could (probably will), she'd drag the entire student council with her

He doesn't go and you cannot convince him. He is afraid of family reunions, the end.

They definitely know her, or at least the cousins do because the tios and tias are just looking at her like any other significant other of their nieces and nephews

Some of the cousins don’t know her and others are like omg ??? you’re dating our cousin ?? how ??

It doesn’t matter what she says about only eating a plate of food, girl is gonna get more and everyone gives her containers of food to take once they realize that she has never eaten this before

Her manager is afraid of the amount of containers she has taken

Cannot stop talking about the party to the council, she wants to go to another one because it's crazy

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, adores her

She’s also another favorite cousin where she walks in and everyone’s like “REI QUE ONDAS”

Some of your cousins that are your age are definitely in love with her but secretly, for the sole reason that they see how she treats you and looks at you

GREAT DANCER, AMAZING DANCER, CAN DO NO WRONG

She’s so good at slow dancing too that whenever a slow song comes on, she has eyes for no one but you and it’s so cute 

The cousins that like her in the back: (punching the air because they wish it was them)

Oh my God, she's so good with babies, they cry and she's singing a lullaby which just makes them sleep and the tias go, "Y ERES UNA BRUJA O QUE?"

Let her go with the tios because they're now talking about the guys at their work and how some of them got their windows shattered and others got fired, it's so boring and she swears she fell asleep during the economy talk

It's like midnight and the party is still going, which makes her question at what time you fall asleep

You tell her to shove the centerpieces into her bag, it's tradition and that way no little kid tries to get it

Rei just goes, "Yeah, we're getting married next, probably" and EVERYONE (except some cousins) goes, "YEAHHHHH, Y/N WON'T BE ALONE!!"

Not appreciated, Rei has to bite back her laughter as you two leave

━ MIYO INBAMI ;

At first, she wanted to bring Miri along because of what you had told her about the party, but that’s when you shook your head frantically, saying that it was better for Miyo to get a taste of the party herself

The invitation said 3 pm, but you said to wait until 4 pm to get there; she didn’t understand why

“If we get there at 3, no one else is going to be there and they’re going to ask us to help with the food when we’re literally their guests, don’t worry about it.”

Her makeup is on point and she carries herself like a princess, but she falters when she’s greeted by everyone

“MIRA, TIENE UNA NOVIA?” “NO ME MIENTAS-”

The primos are all surrounding her and they’re looking between you and Miyo, to which Miyo is genuinely confused because she doesn’t know what’s going on until you say, “Yeah, she’s my girlfriend, so what?”

“We thought you would die alone!” “We were praying on your downfall!” “Are you getting married?”

Ah. So this is what you meant by your family is a bit nosy when it comes to other people’s significant others.

Since this is the first time that she has ever been to a party hosted by your family, she’s really awkward but she does see how everyone else treats that one boyfriend that has been here tons of times; it’s her goal to become as well liked as him

The tias are offering her many plates of food and to be polite, she takes multiple but at the end of the day, she actually finishes all of them because the food is incredible

Takes several goodie bags for Miri, she thinks that she’ll like them and she makes you swear that next time, she can bring her so that Miri can go in the bouncy house

“Sure, just be careful since my cousins will flip it over with kids in it.”

A major sweetheart, everyone loves her

The event you take her to is a quince and she doesn’t know exactly what to expect in the party, so she goes along with what you say

She sees the pretty dress that the quinceañera wears and she really likes how for these parties, people go all out for the dresses and always make it look pretty; she definitely loves the theme of pink

When you tell her that it’s tradition to take the centerpiece, she’s troubled for a second up until she sees you pulling out a large bag from inside your smaller bag so that you can take as many centerpieces as possible

The entire family sees her with you and they’re like :O

The older boy cousins almost try to flirt with her until she tells them she’s with you; prepare for relentless teasing from them about “Y COMO PUDISTE SALIR CON ALGUIEN COMO ELLA?”

All you gotta say is that unlike them, you actually have a girlfriend and they’ll be an emotional wreck

The tias definitely ask her where she’s from, they have to know everything about her and she is so polite to them to the point where there’s no way they don’t love her in the end

The girl definitely listens to songs in Spanish, she listens to Chayanne (no I will not hear criticism) and her favorite songs are Tiempo de Vals, Torero, and Dejaria Todo

When the quinceañera dances with the dad to that first song, you can see her with tears in her eyes

Your mom definitely says, “Ya nos va a sacar de la pobresa!”

When you tell Sumika what she means, she quietly says that she’ll do that when you two get married and then she leaves you flustered but she’s so calm about it

The primos are all asking, “And how much did they pay you to be here?”

“Nothing. I came with them because I wanted to see their family.”

She has had movies take place in Latin America, so she knows how to dance to every single genre there is; trust me when I say that, no matter how hard you try, you cannot possibly look bad with her as your dance partner

Even the tios and tias that are hardcore about dancing are in shock about how elegant you are 

Loves the food there, it’s even more delicious because the guy at the grill served her generously, in awe about her arriving

The little cousins don’t know who she is, only one of them does and the child is constantly following her around, stars in his eyes

1. What is the character’s go-to drink order?

Macha tea is her go to drink. It's not that she likes it, in fact, it's not her favourite drink at all. But it's what her mother likes the most, and what she does for her. So she drinks it out of respect rather than out of preference. She's not very sure what her favourite drink is...

2. What is their grooming routine?

Yuzuki takes a lot of care in her appearance. She always starts her routine with a hair care session. She takes a lot of time during it because she loves combing her hair a lot. Her mother taught her how to take good care of her skin and so she follows a strict skincare routine, almost religiously. Lastly, she finishes with her signature eyeliner. She does not feel at ease until this final touch is done. If she skips it, she will feel awful for the rest of the day.

3. What was their most expensive purchase/where does their disposable income go?

Yuzuki's monthly allowance barely gets her anything, other than food and daily necessities. Because of her mother's long sermons on the importance of money and how the family is in a tight spot, she will feel incredibly guilty if she were to spend anything beyond 1,500 yen in frivolities. The most expensive thing she allows herself to get is clothes. Whenever she comes back home with a nice new outfit, it always makes her mom happy, so it makes her happy.

4. Do they have any scars or tattoos?

Yuzuki would ponder: does the face markings she gets in her Tsukumogami form count as tattoos? As for scars... She will never admit it, but she has a very bad sprain scar on one of her wrists. She has no memory of it, but it apparently was, according to Yumeko, caused by an event when she was a child where she fell down and got badly injured. Her wrist is fine and does not hurt unless you force it, but it has a noticeable mark, which is why she always wears a wristband.

5. What was the last time they cried, and under what circumstances?

The burden Yuzuki carries is great, but her will is so strong. She refuses to break under any circumstances. She will tear up or get gloomy, but she refuses to show any negative emotion. She refuses to be weak. She has to be full of joy so that others can believe in a brighter future. At a point where she could barely stand from the soul-crushing pain, Onino telling her "strong art thou, mortal" was the most vulnerable she has ever been in her life.

6. Are they an oldest, middle, youngest or only child?

Only child. Yumeko would have loved for Yuzuki to have a younger sister, but... Circumstances have decided otherwise.

7. Describe the shoes they’re wearing.

Her brown boots with custom markings are a gift from her mother when she turned sixteen of age. They were pretty expensive to get, so they're quite reliable and sturdy. Durable enough to last for over a decade, even! Yuzuki feels very at ease in those boots, makes the most of them and takes care of them daily.

8. Describe the place where they sleep.

Her bedroom is a bit small due to the amount of furniture, but she feels safe in it. The bed is, according to her, "the fluffiest ever" and puts her instantly to a comfortable sleep. She loves her bookshelf, and her nightstand always has more than 2 books full of notes and bookmarks. The first thing she sees when she wakes up is the mirror, which is sometimes what she uses in her dream to gauge whether she is in a dream or in the real world. On her walls, a lot of posters of magical girl shows she never watched but that her mom thought would be nice to have as decoration.

9. What is their favorite holiday?

New Year's Day. This day coincides with her birthday, the first of January. She loves this holiday not only because she always thought of it as a special, magical event, but also because it represents the end of the old and the start of the new. She is fascinated by the concept of endings and beginnings in myths and legends, so it is only fitting that her favourite holiday is one marking the end and beginning of the year.

10. What objects do they always carry around with them?

Her gohei. Yuzuki started her training very late, at 12 years of age. The formal training of the Yukimura Mikos always begins when the Daughter finishes building her own gohei, which she will carry with her for the rest of her life. Ever since Yuzuki finished hers, she felt entranced by it, enthralled even. She never stops having it with her or at proximity of her, to a point that is almost unhealthy: when she eats, in her bag, hugging it when she sleeps... If Yuzuki ever loses sight of her Gohei, she will become erratic and enter into an irrational panic attack until she finds it back. Why does she love her gohei so much? It's just part of her, she says.

She also loves her bag, ever reliable, which she carries around every time she goes outside and where she packs a whole lot of things, sometimes things she isn't even aware she has. Her peers often joke about the "bottomless" aspect of the bag.

And of course, Onino, for obvious reasons! It's her catalyst to transform into a MagiMonster and her trustworthy companion.

Kakegurui Chapter 106 spoilers / chatter ahead

quick preamble that this will be a stream of consciousness-y write-up, so maybe we're subject to being a bit disjointed this time. maybe some typos. who knows.

but in any case one thing i will talk about though is that in chapter 106 we see another callback to older chapters. And while you can argue that I was just imagining the parallel in 28 vs 104.5, this one is pretty clearly deliberate

These chapters have taught us that Yumeko's impulses seem to be inborn, and that's Just How She Is, but there's pretty clearly a case to be made if we posit that her actual behavior and...methodology? is largely informed by Kabura. Nature/Nurture type thing.

Yumeko is able to clock that Sayaka's "everything" is her connection to Kirari because Yumeko herself was "everything" to Souko. Kabura forced Yumeko and Souko to become effective strangers and Yumeko is aware of the impact that has.

ok that notwithstanding though, I don't think Kabura has actually...outmaneuvered Yumeko. She has this whole shtick about how Yumeko is some completely different beast and how she has the potential to 'swallow the Hundred Devouring Families' (something Kirari has been shown to have a vested interest in seeing happen, mind you) and separating her from her sister was done in the interest of minimizing Souko's positive influence and maximizing Yumeko's innate unhingedness.

Sure, yeah, she did that much.

But if we presume there to be a parallel between chapter 29 and 106, then there's probably another parallel that'll follow: how things actually turned out.

In the Tower of Doors, Sayaka lost. She threw herself off the tower, Kirari jumped after her, and because Sayaka had (either intuited or guessed luckily) chosen the correct door to jump from the two of them landed on that safety mat. Adhering to the condition that 'they were strangers', Kirari circumvented the finality of it by simply re-introducing herself. like. el oh el. el oh el el oh el.

Now I naturally don't expect there to actually be a 1-to-1 parallel therein, but what I AM getting at is that Yumeko clearly still holds some regard for her older sister.

1. She doesn't call Kabura 'big sis' when asked to AND 2. she outwardly reacts when it's suggested that she'll see Souko:

Also note that Kabura drops this line on her after having her get ready for a funeral like...gorl...

I don't think this is a funeral for Souko because that just. makes no sense. Maybe the aunt? Or maybe this is related to Souko's collapse earlier in the chapter (the point at which she's hospitalized, persnaps?) and Kabura is just being Really, Really Mean. Hmst've.

3. She's paying for Souko's medical expenses out of pocket:

and 4. She still wears the ring that matches Souko's (originally her parents' engagement rings), an accessory that she's already mentioned makes her feel connected to them:

and like, maybe this is just a me thing, but if I were a young child and didn't remember my parents at all, but me and my sister who I DO know end up wearing their engagement rings as a matching set... I'd eventually end up associating the ring with my sister. Ionno! Just a thought!

ALSO in regards to the ring, Yumeko is literally never seen without it. She wears it in that really sapphic two-page spread with Mary. She wears it when metaphorically (and illustrated as... homura i just want to talk) 'stripped bare' of her attachments. The ring is HIGHLIGHTED in multiple (albeit not all) chapter/volume covers

That ring is part of a matching set with the one Souko wears, so that might actually be the single piece of something material that she ascribes sentimental value to. and like gee, I wonder why.

This is all to say that, if we use the wording from the aforementioned parallel, much like Kirari and Sayaka were not 'made strangers' with finality, it really doesn't seem to me that Kabura was successful in severing Yumeko's attachment to her sister. You can argue that she separated them, and she most definitely did, but stuff like trying to get Yumeko to call her 'big sis' is a pretty obvious acid test that she's not been shown to pass yet.

no celest would not win, she would lose in two seconds is yumeko didn't like to drag out gambles for 3 entire chapters

celest lost to freaking MAKOTO in the gamble that was the third trial and you think she would win against a girl that was exposed to high stakes gambles since she was SIX?!?!?!?!

you know what, lets go over their skills and achivments that way everyone knows how little of a chance celest has:

Celest: -claims to have never lost a gamble (pre tragety and eventually proved false as shown in her loss in chapter 3) -decent maniplation skills (shown in her convincing hufumi taka assulted her) -was able to SOMEWHAT convince people she was from European blood (only somewhat as makoto deadass sees through her fake name in their first ineraction) -was reconized for her gambling skills by hopes peak -gambled illegaily since she was a young girl without getting in trouble with the law -decent intimadtion

now onto yumeko: -bet her life four times and won (ESP Game, Choice Poker, Top Idol Championship, and Nim Type Zero) -put a girl in 8,800,000 yen debt on her first day (Vote Rock-Paper-Scissors) -made a freshman cry on her second day (doesn't matter but its funny to me) -super human memorization skills (Double Memeory) -extremly good poker face -an iq on par with light freaking yagami -pretty singing voice (this doesn't matter but i think its neat :D) -won a gamble despite having a 2% chance to do so (Vote Rock-Paper-Scissors) -accumalted a debt of over 310 million and choose to stay in debt in order to gamble against a student concil memeber (eventually paid off) -won over 10 billion yen in a singel game (Choice Poker) -won a person's life in a singel game (Choice Poker) -dice manipulation since she was six without being taught -ability to read people -got POSIONED and told her friend to keep playing even though he life was on the line (Nim Type Zero) -balls of steal (ESP Game, Finger Cutting Guillotine, and Double Memory, Midaris intro) -has a chapter 13 bankruptcy kink -told a girl with a gun to fuck off to her face -was shown a life plan and didn't even flinch -won 8.1 billion at SIX YEARS OLD WITHOUT ANY PRATICE AT DICE AGAINST A GROWN WOMAN (Dice Gamble of Jabami Family Dispute) -watched her own sister and aunt lose everything in a gamble and still gambles

so yeah yumeko solos no questions asked

I really have many things to say after the flashback, so hear me out, you can also write your thoughts by replying to me: So I think kabura does live up to her name “tsuibami” which literally means the last meal (in which the prisoner is given a last meal before execution, in other words, giving the prisoner a small hope before throwing them to a further despair by sending them to an execution stage) and that’s her family business, loan sharks, which based of the same concept of the “last meal” after all, kabura didn’t really have to add the condition of” paying me 8 billion and I will listen to you” given that souko lost her gamble against her aunt, which means her and yumeko will be separated by default, it was a meaningless condition, so why did she do that? Simple, she’s a sadist who enjoys seeing the others fall into despair while watching the view sipping her tea, also while yumeko is a compulsive gambler, kabura is a compulsive liar, in where she obviously blames yumeko for her own mistakes, and secondly she claims she is taking risks in her gamble against yumeko, though she comes from a family of financiers, money does not pose a problem to her, there are no risks to her really, even when she claimed that she will raise yumeko to “swallow the momobami family” (I’m not sure if she means the whole clan or kirari’s family exclusively) she’s not taking any risks, all she does is sending yumeko as a nuclear bomb onto the family, while she watches the view from far away, in which she has nothing to lose or care about, turning back to yumeko, does yumeko really respect or like people like kabura? People who take no risks? I mean she respected and loved her sister enough to pay for her medical bells because her sister is a risk taker, which yumeko herself admitted, but what about kabura, she’s the same as yuriko, the girl she played against, where yumeko literally called her “a shitty person” but how does she see kabura? Does she respect her? Does she fear her? Does she love her? Does she has no feelings for her? Anyway, I hope we see her in the next chapters, and I’m looking forward to yumeko “swallowing” kabura, after all, snakes devour goats.

the new kakegurui chapter came out...

i gotta admit, so far the kkg manga has been soooo mindblowingly consistent with its way of unpredictability. to give context, let me try to illustrate:

remember the summary meeting? remember how it was emphasized continuously during the arc that only one winner would emerge from the entire meeting?? then, remember how TOTALLY unexpected and out of left field it turned out that yumeko and mary tied?? we were thrown headfirst to a shock level that made us wonder the innate possibility of it happening.

in fact, in every single gamble in kkg, we were always thrown in varying measures of shock level that's sooo unpredictable we are always left wondering, 'how did this happen?'

i mean, might you ever guess in a million years that the tower of doors rotated every turn so as to provide a shortcut for the players? would you ever infer that yumeko and mary would switch boards before playing indian poker? can you even predict back then that SHE wasn't a real election officer?

point given, we're all probably attuned by now with this reoccuring theme of the series--its consistence of being unpredictable. it's probably why we enjoy reading the series so much. at least, in my case, i always get thrilled at moments when the story deviates from what's ordinary and clichè and predictable.

but you know what's (probably) the only thing predictable in the series?

it's her

yumeko's addiction and insanity with gambling has always been a familiar factor of the series. she does what she can in order for her opponent to experience the same risk as her, gets thrilled with the risks of random probabilities, and doesn't care for a fact whether she wins or lose, just she can enjoy simply the gambling itself.

unabatingly, we would wonder how our protagonist turned out this way. why and how did yumeko get so addicted to gambling? when did it start? what motivated it? surely, yumeko had a point in time where she was a "normal human" driven with the same fears as the rest of us... an origin story, if you will.

before this arc, we were hinted that it had something to do with her sister--who's confined permanently at the hospital making paper cranes out of money.

in my case, i had thought that the reason yumeko became the way she is was because her sister was incurable from a huge amount of gambling debt and yumeko is probably acting on nihilistic surges because of it.

but now, we see it's not the case

yumeko, right from the start, has been this way. she was literally born and bred with this insanity of gambling that literally runs in her blood. this revelation had unmistakingly broken the notion that there was a causality on yumeko's nature. yumeko's the way she is because she just is. there is no "origin" story of her nature in the first place.

this feels to me that kakegurui is breaking usual shonen manga conventions that protagonists perform their motivations based on some sort of causality. hell, most stories in general flow this way. bruce wayne didn't became batman because he just is, bruce wayne became batman because his parents got killed when he was young and he desires to instill justice in gotham.

it's absolutely mind-boggling to me. here i was, waiting for some huge unpredictable twist that reveals how yumeko became this weird gambling psycho, when in fact there is NO twist. yumeko doesn't want to gamble with kirari from a deep-seated feeling of revenge, nor is she acting from influence from defeat of her sister or nihilism. yumeko is quite literally the same entity true and true.

it's intriguing to me now that since yumeko is yumeko, what narrative point is the series trying to tell with it.

It’s been a while. Have you changed your opinion on kirari, ririka? And how the onee-chan portrays president so wildly lol what can you say about sayaka’s situation and overall situation of kirasaya

Hey, sorry it took so long to answer this. It took me a while to organize my thoughts into something more eloquent than "I told you so."

But I basically nailed with with Kirari. However perverse her methods are, she is ultimately fighting against the entrenched power structures of the Bami clan in order to reclaim her freedom and to give that same freedom to her sister and the rest of her family. She cares about Ririka (and Sayaka!) and is pushing her to figure out who she is as her own person and not as Kirari's shadow, even if the separation in the end leaves Kirari feeling lonely.

Ririka I'm still not the biggest fan of, which isn't to say I dislike her, I'm just not compelled by the "cinnamon roll" angle they seem to be going with her and I especially think that her connection with Mary and how, whenever Mary is on the page she eats up all the oxygen in the series, has detracted from her character growth. The twin gamble was damn hear ruined by Mary's inclusion and as a result Ririka was not allowed her time to shine.

With the most recent chapters, it's become more apparent that Sayaka was the biggest wedge between Ririka and Kirari what has ultimately caused them to "separate" into individual people. Ririka was no longer able to accurately portray Kirari because Ririka was not able to tap into the same depth of feeling for Sayaka because she didn't share it with her sister.

Sayaka messed up majorly and I can't imagine her getting out unscathed from accidental exploding the house pet system. Girl already took several hundred bricks of cash to the face. In her single minded desire to protect the system Kirari created and prevent Yumeko from gambling with her, Sayaka inadvertently destroyed that system and forced Kirari's hand against Yumeko.

However, it's clearer now than it already was how much Kirari cares for Sayaka, and I suspect that their relationship will be what causes Kirari to lose against Yumeko. Yumeko's speech to Kirari was all about abandoning attachment, and I think Kirari will realize at some point that beating Yumeko will mean "surrendering" Sayaka, and Kirari won't be willing to do that. So Kirari will throw the gamble and claim a moral victory against Yumeko by losing on purpose and denying her a true gamble, witch will cause Yumeko to spiral.

So in short, with regards to Kirari and KiraSaya: I told you so.

If Rei was also going to be included in GSNS, would she be Kashima's twin or older sister by a year? Since Kashima was originally part of GSNS and I don't remember if Rei was the same year as Mayu or Yumeko in GSNK.

It's pretty vague if Rei's Mayu or Yumeko's age (or even younger) in the GSNK-verse, since her grade is yet to be confirmed in official sources and Tsubaki's comment about her being in the "same age group" as Yumeko&co would mean exactly the same age or a year older/younger -- I'm going to guess she's Yumeko's age. However I imagine in GSNS-verse if she existed she would be a year younger than them to keep the older-younger sister dynamic with Kashima (she just reeks of chaotic youngest child energy).

I feel like the Rei cameo in the GSNS commentary is more of a what-if scenario than confirmation she would be appear in the original premise, so I wouldn't think about it too much haha
