Hey idk if you're doing these rn, and I'm sorry if you aren't, but i was wondering: do you have any head canons for trans!kiryu? If that's even one of your head canons.

no worries, I'll take headcanon requests anytime! I don't particularly have trans hcs for characters since it's not an experience I personally relate to/have thorough knowledge about other than my trans friendos but I don't mind giving it a try!

I think he's super trans positive obvs but for the longest time he wasn't necessarily that kind to himself. He's often the bearer of burdens and feels the need for self punishment so I feel like he would struggle with such a concept that he can change himself and feel better about it. A man who struggles to self practice what he preaches in a sense, self doubt and all that

he's also prolly super ignorant of things. Like, doesn't know the meaning of terms or the nuances of it all. Not necessarily a bad thing of course, just when he's talking to other people about it he'll sound confused or get things wrong with the best intentions of course. He was raised very simply and I highly doubt Kazama was a fountain of knowledge for him. I would think he'd support Kiryu cuz that's his fav boy but outside of that he's like aight do whatever you gotta do kiddo, anyway keep beating up people with stop signs

Kiryu leans heavily into masculine behaviors and idealisms since his whole worldview has been brought up by these tough, manly yakuza dudes that he at one point idolized and that's just how he thinks men should be. So he becomes overly stoic, flatly emotional and strong. Values fights and muscles and manly shit like gut punching. Maybe it takes him a long time to realize things aren't so black and white but it makes it hard for him to open up and express himself. He's terrified of people finding out in such a hypermasculine community so he's easy to clam up and treat things with his fists over conversation unless proven otherwise

Nishiki would totally be the supportive best bro, helping him with confidence and day to day living n all that. Lil stuff that makes Kiryu feel normalized and cozy. Kiryu can be one for exaggeration but he likes to take things slow and feel like he's just another person. Nishiki could definitely keep things light hearted

because I can't NOT mention Majima in 99% of what I do, he would be super supportive of Kiryu. He treats everything so casually that Kiryu is actually taken off guard many times, not used to someone who doesn't really give a damn about how someone lives their life. It's comforting to know someone as wack ass as Majima would be outright accepting and very likely violently protective

Haruka! I think at some point he'd have to explain everything to her - after like, really educating himself without fumbling over words or terminology and ends up doing that anyway but she gets the gist. Frankly she prolly understands more than he does and she helps him out, being really forthcoming and accepting. He's her dad in the end and that makes him happy. This also makes him pretty familiar with feminine issues n things so that’s a unique perspective for her growing up

I think he’d be really proud of that facial hair he has. He keeps it nice n groomed and was quite happy when it first came in. Same goes for his body. He likes to keep toned in that masculine way he wants to be. He probably was a lil unsure about things when he first started transitioning but Nishiki could have been there to help out and really encourage him

I hope this was good! I can't speak for the trans experience personally so I had a lil help from some of my pals. I like to talk about feelings and acceptance which really resonates with me so I hope I got that across

Rin Matsuoka relationship hcs

This is quite the hefty post, since I’ve tried to cover as many aspects of the relationship as possible (both SFW and NSFW), but if any of you liked a particular (set) of hc(s), feel free to hit my ask box and I will elaborate on it/them with a drabble or maybe even a full-sized fic (if your patience is otherworldly).

where does one even begin

this relationship would be full of everything from extreme sap, to extreme drama to extreme romance to extreme steam- literally nothing missing, aka you just can’t possibly get bored

you better expect this boi to go to the ends of hell for you because that’s exactly what he’s going to do and if you’re not ready to do the same for him you may walk yourself out the door, sir

also, a relationship with a world-class athlete ain’t easy- you have to brace yourself for a whole lot of time spent apart, not only because of his competitions and whatnot, but also because of his incessant training- an integral and necessary part of his career

but not only do you have to prepare yourself mentally for the long-distance-despite-not-being-long-distance aspect, you have to remember that he is constantly under massive pressure too

being super clingy and complaining all the damn time is a massive no from your girl here

but to get into the actual relationshippy things

this boi would absolutely love the idea of matching jewellery

you know the way he’s always wearing some sort of bracelet or necklace

yeah he’d totally get you two a bracelet or something after a good while of the relationship because-

-he’d also be the kind to take everything slow

so he’s super passionate as we all know, but he’s not really a rash person

he’s definitely grown a lot and I feel that many people actually keep labelling him as the dude he used to be when he was 17 and was a teeny tiny bit of an asshole

however, he really thinks things through and realises the importance of pacing in a relationship

I mean yeah if you’re good with it early on it’s not like he’d wait 3 months to have sex or anything

I just mean that he wouldn’t be throwing in unnecessarily grand gestures like saying I love you at 1 month and a half, especially if you haven’t even known each other that long, like you were just classmates or something for a year or so and then decided to date

in fact, during the relationship, he wouldn’t really drop the 3 words all that often I guess

it’s not really because he just gets flustered sometimes-he’s not 15 anymore-it’s actually because he strongly believes in their meaning and doesn’t want to trivialise it

I guess this is part of his Japanese side that hasn’t changed at all despite the foreign influence from early on in his life and also at present, at university

so when he says it, it’s a really important moment

that, or he’s just pent up so much love towards you that he just had to express it directly

he’d be very good with words, though

as he still has this tendency to express his sentimentality rather indirectly, he has mastered the technique of making you feel things with simple words, but carefully chosen ones

also, he’d be real big on affectionate gestures

this boi would really be the kind to gift you random things for absolutely no reason and buy you flowers

when he’s in public with you he wouldn’t really do more than hold your hand and occasionally give you a peck or something,

but when you two are alone he’d really enjoy either lounging with you combing his hair with your fingers while he’s lying on your lap

or hugging you from behind when you’re doing random things just to surprise you and see your reaction

couple workouts! but fear not, not the cringe yoga and him doing push-ups with you on his back kind of workout- rather, him lending you a hand, sometimes jogging together and just generally the two of you doing your own thing together

bonus: Rin stealing some appreciative glances at you amidst your intense workout session, which can either lead to a candid, loving compliment, or would trigger some ;;;;;) moment in him which will catch up on you unknowingly later during the day (or, should I say, night ;;;;) )

bonus x2: seeing him sweaty, panting and gawking in awe at his perfectly sculpted muscles which are flexing before your very eyes... damn

one of his best looks would be his black tank top with a pair of sweats, a look he generally wears around the apartment and which, despite being as casual as you can get, is a genuine gift from God

nevermind all of his very well coordinated looks which make all the lasses turn their heads on the street

which brings me to-

-shopping dates and him helping you choose what to wear when you’re going somewhere

even though you’re not together at that moment, if you’re in a quandary as to what to wear for a specific event, snap him a few pics of the outfits, or just ask him directly (yes, he remembers what clothes you have- a scarily good ability) and he’ll give you a whole ass run down of why this one’s good but that one’s better etc etc

also, since we’re on the topic of pics;)

this boi would LOOVE taking selfies with you! just imagine: two dorks making peace signs in the most adorable selfie ever

he’d be a bit shy about using cute filters but you’d end up taking cat whisker selfies with him in no time

but also

since the relationship involves so much time apart

texting (and sexting) can be a really important part of your relationship (here you can read my Rin texting headcanons)

he’d make you feel like a goddess most of the time, because he really appreciates your hard work

but whenever you’re in a slump he’d be your number 1 source of motivation

it’s really different when you see someone you don’t really know who becomes successful and whatever, but when the man you know so intimately and who you’re so close to is that person, achieving your goals really becomes more realistic

after all, sometimes you need motivation from external sources too, there’s nothing wrong with that

a very healthy relationship indeed, you two would psych each other up and be there for each other, teach each other things and be an inspiration to one another

but hey lemme give you some NSFW because I know you were looking for this part

i’m just gonna say this, Rin is a whole ass dom who really loves pleasing

and teasing

so don’t expect anything without at least a little bit of teasing

enjoys positions in which he can see you (and your facial expressions) properly, positions in which he can kiss you, nibble on your earlobe, you got it

not to say that he doesn’t enjoy taking you from behind

the relationship definitely won’t be smooth, but it won’t lack in anything and it would only get better and better with time- it’s literally impossible to end up complacent with him because there’s always something new

even the medium amounts of drama that arise only add to the amazing things this relationship has to bring

kissing the tears off each other’s cheeks, frantic embraces, sometimes over-the-top, grand displays of affection after a long time of not having seen each other, or even small gestures that end up moving either of you to tears

this would only be a glimpse into how the relationship would feel like with this absolute babe and sweetheart of a man

Alright, I gotchu! And thank you for appreciating my blog and I’m glad you enjoy my stuff! I’ll do note that in this headcanon the pronouns jump from gender neutral to female b/c I was slightly out of it when I was writing this, hope you don’t mind.

Agito Kanoh

I’ma be real here, I think jealousy is a dangerous emotion for Agito.

Hear me out on this one, the reason why I think jealousy is a dangerous emotion for Agito is he doesn’t know what it is or define it.

Since you’re technically his first love, he can’t really grasp the thought of Jealous as he never experienced such an emotion.

By all means he can’t stop you as it’s not really your fault that people tend to gravitate towards you and be friendly and all.

However, it doesn’t stop him from feeling jealous. It gives him a weird feeling to know that people get really chummy with you even though you expressed, and might I say VERY CLEARLY, you’re already taken.

The problem is he doesn’t know what this is and can’t express this to you as you make think differently about him if he does so.

He’s not necessarily insecure, but he does have those thoughts of you possibly leaving him for someone else.

Either you or Katahara notices this in him and ask what’s going on. After he explains the unknown feeling that’s holding him down, you both explain to him(separately) the emotion he’s experiencing is jealousy and he should talk to you about it.

More specifically you as it does raise concern for emotional turmoil. You know he doesn’t know how to deal and understand certain things and you didn’t want him to go into an unhealthy cycle of bottling up his emotions and feeling weak for it. That’s the last thing you want to do to someone you love most dearly.

You give affirmation and assurance to him. Specking how you would never have other feelings for something and you love him only. You comfort him as well when it gets to him. Whether in the forms of small talks, light kisses, hugs, cheek/forehead kisses, or holding his hands, you know you can calm down Agito with them.

This does ease him up as you explain to him the fundamentals of jealousy. Although you know better than to tell someone to not feel a certain way, you always tell Agito that you would never leave him and be vocal and clear with him.

Agito does get over it and recover from the feelings of jealousy.

If the person who’s talking to you is fighter, Agito thinks the fighter indirectly is challenging him to a fight as they took great interest in you.

Agito, 100% of the time, wins these fighters without much of a scratch. Sometimes, they go under 2 min for fights and it’s pretty interesting.

Afterwards, you’ll probably cuddling with him and told him that he fought well and you’re glad he’s safe and unharmed.

If someone kind of steps over your boundaries, you don’t need to worry since Agito sees what happens and is at your aid. Looming over and releasing his daunting aura, scaring the person away in the process. If it doesn’t, they’ll find out why he’s the 5th Fang of Metsudo.

Anyway, he does get confused with jealousy at first. But over time as you assure him and calm his nerves, it won’t bother him as much. However, he always knows he can go to you when it does arises.

Wakatsuki

Here’s the thing for me, Wakatsuki doesn’t get jealous. Or it’s a rare occurrence for him.

He loves you very much and knows you feel the same way about him. With the feelings being mutual, he doesn’t think he should be jealous at all.

Takeshi is also wise and isn’t that type of partner where he gets butthurt for you hanging out with close friends, reconnecting with old ones, or just chatting with someone.

So basically if he gets jealous, it’s sort of serious because he’s a very level-headed man.

But I see his jealousy as more of subtle anxious thoughts that eat away at him than him getting angry and controlling.

He’s fine when you hangout with your friends and sees no problem. He knows you have your own life and it would be wrong for him to take that away from you. Very well against his morals to do so.

I wouldn’t say it’s aggressive jealousy, I think it’s more softer, passive and subtle.

What I mean is he grows silent at times when he’s lost in thought or you’re talking to him, he subtle distant himself without you knowing/ making it obvious, or he brushes of the feeling and tells you nothing is wrong/ not to worry.

This is a strange emotion to him, as in he shouldn’t be feeling this way since you don’t go out of your way to flirt with others to make him jealous. Which, by the way, is ultimately lame and stupid of you to do. *Don’t do that to your S/O, please*

Like he has an emotional battle with himself where he feels this is silly of him to be jealous. While the other is those what if’s and that you should, at least, give him some of time your attention and love to him as well.

Of course he won’t feel like this when you interact with other fighters like Seki and Cosmo.

And again, he normally doesn’t feel this way when it’s your friends/co workers, even if they’re male. However, it doesn’t mean he won’t start feeling this way.

It’s not hard for you to pick up on this when you’ve been with him for a while. To you, he’s an open book, although you don’t know the full details, you get the gist off what’s going on with him. Especially when it causes him to be a bit too silent and create space between the two of you. You don’t necessary confront him, you ask him he’s been off as of lately and it worries you.

Wakatsuki just apologizes to you for doing that. He didn’t mean to distant himself from you but he explains his feelings of subtle jealousy and even anxious thoughts. Again, you being the nice and sweet person you are, you reassure your tiger cub that what he’s feeling is understandable and nothing to be ashamed of. You also apologize for not making time for him like usual and so you promise to spend time with your and give him all your love and affection.

Although as selfish as it sounds, Takeshi likes when you give him your time and affection. It calms his anxiety down A LOT and eases his nerves. The man’s is putty in your hands.

Basically to cure his “jealousy” is lots of hugs, kisses, and cuddles on your end. Not super complicated at all.

However, if SOMEONE ELSE is trying to make him jealous by spending time with you and you’re not apart of it, that’s a different story. He won’t get angry per say, he’ll just get annoyed and slightly agitated from them. Not super confrontation, but will tell that person to back off and not make unwanted advances on you when he’s alone with them. If that doesn’t work, he can release his aura and say “what about now?”. Afterwards, the person won’t try to steal you from him in fear of facing the Wakatsuki’s strength.

Other than that, his jealousy is more passive and subtle than most people. Mostly because he trusts and loves you where words can’t necessarily can’t. Even when he does, it’s pretty much an easy fix and his jealousy is at a all time low and non-existent.

Mostly b/c he just really cares about you. I beg of you to not purposely make him jealous, please.

Max getting jealous of Billy's and El's relationship cause she got the big brothers always wanted right off the bat while max suffered with douchebag billy for years. Angst ensues, naturally.

Yes. yes. And YES. (I hope you don’t mind that I mixed these two!!)

Okay i have so many thoughts about this and w/ every little thing i write that includes Billy and El i think about what it must do to Max. bc i love Max and I wanna give her hugs and ohmygod guys MAX.

(And i should probably preface this by saying I haven’t read Runaway Max so i don’t necessarily know what’s canon but also i’ve been melting canon down to what i want it to be so i guess this won’t be very different from what I normally do, huh??)

Anyway i talked about it in the ask prior to this but I Highly Believe that Billy and Max’s relationship pre-move-out-mayhem was bitchy at most. Like I think they were snarky and a little rude to each other but they were still supportive. Bc they lived in a house w/ a man who got mad so frequently. and i don’t think Neil ever touched or ever will touch Max (i have extended thoughts on this but we don’t have to get into it here, i’ll just leave it at the gist) but Max knows something is wrong. Sees the bruises on Billy’s face and hears the yelling and the harsh sounds and harsher words. Never ever talks about it bc Billy always barks at her if she tries. But she’ll let him have the last popsicle he loves so much or she’ll let him take as much time as he wants fixing his hair in the bathroom in the morning or just any little thing that makes something even a little better. Bc she’s still a kid at this point, there’s not a lot she can do, but she can do little things like that.

And i headcanon Billy as having been a brat but still doing things for her. Like when he has to babysit her and he’ll take her down to the boardwalk and buy her an ice cream but he’s like: “Don’t get used to it.” as if he didn’t just do something super nice. He does her hair for her bc as a kid she was Helpless at putting her hair up and so he started helping her and just never stopped. Did her hair for her bc it was easier than sitting down to teach her. Cooks dinners for her or even w/ her when Neil and Susan are out to dinner or out of town or whatever. Drives her to school every day when he gets a car and they argue over music but really she kind of likes his music, even though she’d never tell him. She gets into some of the bands he likes and steals a couple of the band shirts he lifted from stores when they get too small for him. He teaches her how to skate and even gives her his board when he gets his car. She’s ecstatic about it and he brushes it off by pulling at her hair and saying: “Whatever, dipshit, now I won’t have to drive you to the candy store or wherever it is you go.”

She punches his arm.

He chuckles and kicks at her heel lightly as they walk.

They just… they’re brats but they’re SIBLINGS. And yeah they’re half siblings but Billy is adamant in S2 about the fact that they’re family. That boy loves Max and Max loves Billy bc they grew up w/ each other and faced so much shit together.

But right before the move… and during the move… and after the move…

Billy gets so rough. He’s angry all the time. Stops doing her hair and yells at her when she asks. Laughs when she tries and fails to the point where she just leaves her hair down and unbrushed bc it’s just easier. He’s on edge all the time and takes it out on her and he vaguely sees himself doing it but he’s red and angry and uncaring bc fuck this fuck all of this.

He blames everything he sees bc it’s easy and facing the reality of his whole situation is hard and he’s just tired. Wants to be given a break but he hasn’t been given a break for years now so he’s absolutely exhausted. He kicks and punches walls and he slams his door in Max’s face when she asks him a question and he shuts himself away bc it’s easier to do that than face anything and it’s bad. But Billy isn’t sure what qualifies as bad and good anymore, he just knows what hurts and what doesn’t and everything hurts but hiding almost makes it feel like it doesn’t. He used to not mind being his sister’s keeper but now he fucking has to babysit her goddamn 24/7 and he’s in a new town where he knows NOBODY and he can’t be open here bc it’s in the fucking midwest and he’s just angry and hurt and so damn fearful so he gets mad. Stressed. Takes it out on everything and everyone and Max.

So Max loses her brother.

She loses him mentally and emotionally and then she loses him physically.

Bc Hop finds out, and he adopts Billy, and then Billy’s gone. But Billy makes it very clear to her once he’s gone that “If anything and I mean absolutely anything happens with Neil, you tell me straight away. Got it? I’m living with the goddamn Chief of Police now, we’ll get that guy in jail so fast I swear.”

Max just nods.

But nothing ever happens. Neil is kind of a dick but he doesn’t get as angry. He’s strict but not physical. It makes Max angry though bc she hates the thought that it was just Billy that made him so horrible. She doesn’t wanna believe it. Sure this man gave her her brother but she hates him for pushing him away.

And Max loves El. She really does. She loves El to the moon and back, hanging out with her is an absolute blast, having a friend who’s a girl feels like a godsend sometimes bc boys are stupid and girls are soft and pretty and lovely.

And she tries real hard not to be jealous of El. She really really does. And she tries real hard not to get mad at Billy either, really. It’s just that…

It sucks. And it hurts. Bc Billy is so calm with El. He’s so brotherly and caring and good with her. He takes her to ice cream and does her hair and jokes around with her. He lets her brush his hair and he buys cookies and stuff for her and they have little inside jokes now. He’s soft and gentle with her. He shows her new music and he hugs her all the fucking time and wow it sucks.

Because Max had to deal with all of it before it became this. Saw all of Billy’s pain and felt pain in her heart over it and then saw through Billy giving her pain and felt physical pain over that and then saw him leave and now feels emotional pain over the fact that she doesn’t get him anymore.

And he still drives her to school everyday. He still drives her around when she asks, even if he bitches about it. He shows her new music and he willingly hands over his too small band shirts. He’s still a protective little shit over her. He hangs out with her and messes around w/ her when she goes over to visit El.

But the thing is… El gets to keep him… and Max has to go home to no one.

And Max likes her mom. Would never wanna leave her mom. Her mom is the one thing that keeps her grounded to her previous life- her life even before Billy. Dealing with dickish Neil is sometimes worth it bc she still has her mom.

But her mom isn’t really home all that much. And even when she is, hanging out with her isn’t as cool or fun; sometimes it’s kind of draining. She just wants her brother back.

And Max is a goddamn firecracker too. Just like her brother. She’s hotheaded and straightforward and she just gets so frustrated bc whatthefuck. But she doesn’t wanna lash out at El bc it’s not El’s fault and she doesn’t really wanna lash out at Billy bc she’s happy he’s happy now but goddamnit she had to deal with all of the trauma and now El gets him at his best without the worst and she’s just pissed.

So sometimes she’ll get fed up. She’ll come over to hang out and she hears Billy and El making their own little inside jokes and watches Billy pick El up and swing her around while El giggles and sees Billy helping El read things like titles to movies or cereal boxes or ice cream cartons and Max’s face will get red and she’ll storm out of the cabin grumbling about skating home.

And Billy doesn’t like that, doesn’t really want her skating home from here, so he follows her out, leaving El inside, shouting: “Wait up, Max, I’ll drive you.”

“Don’t bother.”

“Quit being a brat, you shouldn’t be skating that far this late.”

“Me skating home never worried you before.”

“Cut it out, I just don’t want anything happening to you-”

And Max turns, face red, hair in flames around her head as it whips around her and she yells: “You’re not my brother anymore!”

And Billy is seriously taken aback. Bc to him he never stopped being her brother but here Max is, angry and spitting in his direction with her anger, gripping her board tight and her nose crunching up in that way he almost forgot about.

Max huffs.

“Just go have fun with your new sister.”

Billy’s chest flares up.

“Fine, shitbird!”

Max gets on her board and shoots a middle finger up behind her as she skates away. Billy slams the door when he heads back inside.

And they make up real fast. A few days later El wants to see Max to go shopping and there’s no one to drive them but Billy. So they’re a little pissy with each other but Billy gets them a couple of sodas and Max hip checks him a few times so he knows they’re cool again.

But there’s still that tense feeling in her chest. That sick feeling in her throat. That pounding in her head as El tries on a bunch of shirts and Billy jokes around with El and ruffles her hair and pokes her forehead.

She watches them interact and it presses at her chest too hard so she forces herself to speak. She needs it off her chest she needs it gone.

“Billy?”

“Mm?” He grunts out.

“Do you… like El more than me?”

And god something about it cracks Billy’s heart. Bc he loves Max, he really does. He’s done so much in his life to protect her and help her and teach her. They grew up for years together. They’ve been through too much shit for him to not love her. and he’s never seen her so self conscious before.

There’s a long pause of them sitting there, Billy’s head spinning a bit, before he looks to her and takes a dramatic sigh.

He chuckles when she punches him. “I’m being serious!”

“So am I! You big group of nerds leech all my money,” Billy begins counting the list on his fingers, “make me your personal driver, keep me from fucking my boyfrie-”

“Shut up! God you’re so grody!” Max shoves at his shoulder.

“Grody? Excuse me Max, grody? Who are you?”

She shoves him again and sighs. Billy watches her.

“What’s got you so worked up, brat?”

Max grumbles, nose scrunching up before she gives an angry huff.

“I hate this. I don’t want to hate it but… you’re supposed to be my brother.” She’s angry, face turning red but there’s almost tears in her eyes and Billy hates seeing them there. “And El gets you when you’re nice.” she tilts her head back against the wall and looks up to the ceiling. “I bet she doesn’t even know how much of a dick you can be.”

Billy chuckles.

“I’d beg to differ. I’m still being a dick.”

“Doubt it.”

“Seriously, Max. You know me, I was born a jerk.”

“Were not.” she mumbles. He flicks her ear in response.

She yelps. “Hey! Jerk!”

“See?” Billy laughs and lightly shoves her shoulder. “Quit worrying about it. I’m serious. Yeah El gets me now that I’m in a good spot but you understand me, y’know? We get each other. Or whatever.”

Max rolls her eyes but seems pretty pleased with the answer. Billy gives a satisfied grin before folding his hands behind his head and leaning back.

“Besides…” he drawls. “It’s no secret that Will is my actual favorite.”

Max punches his side and Billy makes a pained noise over his chuckle.

“See? Will wouldn’t hit me!”

Max rolls her eyes again but she’s smiling. She’s glad Billy still thinks of himself as her brother bc she doesn’t want him to go away. She lost him once and doesn’t wanna lose him again.

And yeah it still kinda sucks… but she likes the relationship she has with Billy. Plus, after their little talk Billy starts being overly nice to the point where it’s clearly a joke. He grabs the sides of her head and gives a big, dramatic kiss to the top of it. He scoops her up into bone crushing hugs. He holds doors open for her and acts real dumb about it and starts calling her things like “Sister dear” to the point where Max just says: “Cut it out you’re being annoying. Just go back to being a jerk.”

He laughs and punches her shoulder lightly.

“You got it, shitbird.”

Smoker/Reader/Tashigi fluff Headcanons and how they start dating! ((Dumbass-no-mi))

Smoker and Tashigi started off as partners in the police force. Right from the start, there was tension between them, but they had always kept it strictly professional. They enjoyed working together and each was concerned that taking another step would do more harm than good.

Then they met you. You had just taken ownership of their favorite coffee shop, the one they stopped by every day before their shift started. The first time they met you, they were also met with a free donut and coffee, a small smile on your face as you wished them a happy shift. They had no idea how you knew who they were or that they received those things everyday, but they agreed that it– and you– were quite nice.

Over the next few weeks, their routine changed. Whereas before they would pop in, have a quick chat and then head to work, they began to arrive earlier and earlier so they would have extra time to just hang around and talk with you. You began to expect them and would have a fresh pot already brewed for them, even though at that point they were technically arriving earlier than you were open.

Not that you were complaining, the partners were both gorgeous. Smoker was a bit gruff, but you could see the sweet man lying underneath. Tashigi had a habit of losing her glasses and was straight-laced, but she complimented Smoker well by reigning in his more…atypical urges. She was also adorably sweet and kind, always willing to help you out if you needed it. You enjoyed their company, but feared they had eyes for only each other. It was pretty clear to you that something was going on underneath their calm facades, but it wasn’t your place to ask.

Things stagnated as Smoker and Tashigi came to terms with their affection for you and each other. Though they had never spoken of it, they knew it showed, and so long as their work performance wasn’t affected their superiors never said anything. But with the addition of you, they now had to face their feelings or risk losing you.

That didn’t necessarily mean they were ready to admit anything. But at least they were more comfortable with their feelings. They were already a seamless team, and knew how the other felt about you right off the bat. They had even spoken of it, dancing lightly around the topic of a them as well as an us.

You never said it, but all of you came to consider the time spent together before their shifts as, if not quite dates, then at least something more than platonic. If it turned out they weren’t going to be able to show up that day, one of them was sure to let you know. If you weren’t going to be in the shop that day, whoever was on shift gave them their coffee and donut and a sweet note apologizing for not being there that day.

Things didn’t come to a head until a few months into the very non-traditional arrangement the three of you had. Smoker and Tashigi were at their desks finishing up some paperwork, chatting about possibly stopping by to see you after work as well, when a call came in for a burglary and injuries. The address the person gave was for your shop, and Smoker and Tashigi both felt their blood run cold.

Before Hina could dispatch anyone, they were both in her office and begging to be sent. She knew the fondness the two of them held for you and the shop both, so with a sigh and a warning not to get too emotional, she sent them off. As far as she was aware, the injuries were minimal, and there were no reports of critical condition or death. Besides, if she kept them from going, they would just sneak around her and get into trouble, or harass her to death for information.

Arriving at the shop, they caught sight of you almost immediately. You had a bandage wrapped around your hand and a bruise on your cheek, and your lip was split along with a still forming black eye. When you caught sight of the pair of them, tears welled up and spilled over, your hand reaching out to them.

The officer taking your statement willingly handed over the questioning to them, and you fell into Tashigi’s arms as Smoker, in his typical gruff fashion, asked you the remaining questions.

As soon as that was done, he swept you from Tashigi, crushing you to him with an angry promises to catch whoever had done this. Windows and money could be replaced– you, however, could not be, and Smoker was as furious as he was scared.

Tashigi took you home after that, with promises that they would be by to check on you afterwards, and left you alone. With your thoughts. That were already in turmoil from that day’s experience, with the additional stress of confusion about the two of them. They said they weren’t together, but they acted more than a little friendly, but now they had acted as if the burglar had hurt more than just their friendly neighborhood coffee shop owner.

As promised, they came back a few hours later with news of a few leads, but they couldn’t really give you information. They brought takeout with them, guessing what you would like based on past conversations. You told them again about what happened, going over it a few times while they speculated.

The TV played in the background as you talked, and then you ran out of things to talk about. Tension filled the room as you all tried to absorb yourselves in the TV. After a few awkward moments, it suddenly dawned on all three of you that this was more personal than any of you had been before, even between Smoker and Tashigi.

After a moment, Tashigi broke.

___, I have something to confess. Smoker too,” she said in a breathless rush, reaching out to take your hand. Your heart leapt in your throat as Smoker shifted beside you, clearly uncomfortable but allowing Tashigi to continue. The smell of his cigars filled the room, unfamiliar but comforting somehow as Tashigi said, “We both have feelings for you. I’m sorry if that makes you uncomfortable but we…”

She faltered, pausing to try and find the right words to explain her affections, so you saved her the trouble. “It doesn’t make me uncomfortable in the slightest. In fact, I return them. Both of you.” You could feel the heat on your face, and Tashigi looked no better. Smoker was at your back, but Tashigi could see the faint pink on his cheeks too as he looked at the wall.

“I’m so happy,” Tashigi squealed, throwing her arms around you and knocking you back into Smoker’s lap. He jumped and grumbled under his breath, but when he looked down at Tashigi nuzzling your neck while you looked up at him, smiling happily with tears in your eyes, he stopped and settled his hands on Tashigi’s back and your head. He wasn’t good with words, but you got the gist just fine.

When they left later that night, the palpable tension was back. Without you there, they now had to face what the confession meant for them. They got into the patrol car, an awkward silence filling it until, once again, Tashigi broke.

“Smoker, I know it’s unprofessional but I–” she started to say, but Smoker cut her off with a heavy sigh.

“I know, Tashigi. And you know I feel the same. We’ll talk to Hina about it tomorrow and see what she has to say. We may not have to separate, but she needs to know what’s going on.” It was the most he had ever said on his feelings, and it was all she was going to get. He was so red he looked like he was going to burst into flames.

Another silence fell, broken by the radio crackling quietly with news of one crime or another as they returned to the precinct. Tashigi drifted into her thoughts, going over the nights events. She was giddy with excitement and adrenaline, happy that things were finally out in the open, but there was some trepidation as she thought about what Hina might say. She wasn’t sure what she would do if she couldn’t be Smoker’s partner anymore. No one knew her like him, and vice-versa, and the idea of partnering with someone knew left her uneasy.

Halfway to the precinct, Smoker reached out and took Tashigi’s hand without a word, breaking her concentration, and she almost laughed with joy. He might not be the most vocal partner, but he was sincere and loyal, and that was enough for her.

Okay but I have lots of questions about tagging things on ao3.

Like is the “crossposted from ffn” tag actually helpful in any way (when nearly all of my fics will be)? Is “this is my first fic in this fandom” (particularly on backdated fics) useful for people to know or is it more of a turnoff than anything else? One guide recommended posting fic lengths (<5k, 5-10k, etc) but I’ve never actually come across that in practice? I’ve seen authors make series’ for different crossovers which seems useful since you can’t neatly get to those otherwise, but is it helpful doing like “danny phantom oneshots” in addition to “superphantom crossovers” for easier navigation or is it annoying to have so many series that aren’t really series? How useful are individually tagged genres, especially if you can get the gist of the fic from the summary itself and what do you do if you can’t really decide what genre your fic is in the first place? Is there a tag for when the genre of the fic is basically the same as the source material (like “slice of life” or “case fic” but… idk with more universally applicable verbiage)? Are there conventions for tagging pervasive headcanons (like there are for tropes) and how do you decide which ones are worth tagging? Should you tag a work “gen” even if it’s already in the gen category (is it not redundant because people put ships in the gen category when they’re not supposed to)? How many tagged friendships are too many?? Are plot/backstory spoilers best warned in tags or notes or a combination (and is it helpful to say “no spoilers” on everything else)? Ditto to fic timelines (set before episode x, post-season y, or any time after book z)? What’s the proper tagging procedure for fics that are tags/codas/whatever you call them to a specific episode? Is the “major character death” warning still applicable if it doesn’t happen in the fic itself but the fic is exploring the grieving/fallout/aftermath of a major character’s death? And how specific should you get on warnings that spoil where the fic is going? Is “see end notes for more details” the new convention for giving content warnings while not spoiling the fic for those who want to just see how it plays out? How specific should you get in AU tags and honestly what do you call a fic where the rules of the universe are the same but like two characters never became friends which means that the plot plays out differently? Because that’s not necessarily an alternate universe (or is it??) but it’s not canon compliant. How do you tag/link to fanworks and sequels (I’ve only come across the option to mark the work you’re posting as a fanwork of something else)? I remember hearing that you could embed pics into a fic but I haven’t actually seen anyone add fic covers or fanart (is that because best practice is to link out to the original and not include the pic itself even if you have permission from the creator? Which is 100% understandable. But from an archival perspective, it would be nice to have connected works together on stable urls so is there another reason don’t people at least do that with fic covers/banners/promos they’ve made themselves?)? Is there a way to connect your work to someone else’s if they’re separate but written off of the same prompts (that weren’t officially posted to ao3, because that’s a thing too, right?)? And should permission statements (don’t post this fic anywhere else, podfic welcome, ask about adopting, etc) be individual tags on every fic or notes at the bottom or referenced in a tag that points to a blanket statement on your profile or what? And alskhdflksdh this isn’t even getting into the intricacies of what to do with non-fic things like meta posts (especially involving multiple people) or plot bunnies that came out of fic meme ask games but aren’t yet polished fic, or all of the other stuff people wanted to back up from their tumblr account.

Ao3 just has so many options and everything is so open ended and I have a lot of fics to crosspost so I need some structured consistency before I really get into itlike. . I’ve read through some very helpful fic tagging guides and tips and official ao3 tag wrangler faqs but I have a lot of questions that I haven’t really seen discussed or don’t really have a “right” or “wrong” answer so I’d like to take some time to ask the audience haha.

I just. overthink everything and have a lot of questions, okay?? ao3 is very overwhelming. Even though I’ve been doing this for 150+ fics.

Hijikata initiates a friendship with you at first and won’t seem overly interested in you, even though you will pique his interest and curiosity but he won’t come on very strong and it will take some time for him to develop romantic feelings for you. It will be at least a few weeks before he will begin to develop romantic feelings for you but in the mean time he’ll be fine with developing a friendship, but really doesn’t push you to spend time with him because he doesn’t want to come on strong or seem overly interested in you.

When he does begin to develop feelings for you, he’ll kind of hesitate about actually asking you out, but when he decides to go through with asking you out, he will get you some place more secluded though not necessarily just the two of you. He’s fine with a quiet restaurant, a festival, walking you home etc.

He can seem slightly nervous or uneasy but it’s really not very noticeable because he will try his best to kind of hide it and at least come across as somewhat more confident. Once the two of you do begin dating, he is very caring, loyal and rather respectful and chivalrous with you, though he will have awkward and stupid moments but does try hard to come across as calm and cool in front of you.

You can also be rather awkward on occasion and can struggle to say exactly what you want, sometimes feeling as though you are terrible at explaining things well. Which he really isn’t always the best with hints and fulling understanding what you mean or what you are trying to say, but for the most part he can figure it out or at least get the gist of what you are trying to explain, especially the longer the two of you are together.

You are both more on the introverted side but he can like going different places with you and kind of pushing you at least a little out of your comfort zone, nothing too serious or out there but can be a bit adventurous from time to time. He is very attentive with you and is usually a very good listener as well, paying close attention to details about you and things you like or dislike, you do really hate to feel ignored when you talk but you’ll really never have to worry about that with him because his focus always tends to be on you over others.

Which means he’ll ignore others before even thinking about ignoring you when you have something to say, but often times will shut others up for you can say what you wanted to say. Though at the same time this can be almost a little embarrassing to you because too much attention can make you uncomfortable, so if he shuts people up for you can say something all the focus of the group can kind of shift to you.

He doesn’t really care for a lot of affection especially in public but doesn’t really oppose it either and can be open to more subtle things like holding hands or hugs. But when the two of you are alone, he is far more open to being affectionate and can instigate things kind of subtly at first, and tends to hug you from behind often and play with your hair when he’s sitting next to you.

He isn’t clingy and generally doesn’t really get jealous either, he’s fine with giving you space and alone time, so if you spend time with friends, family, coworkers etc. he doesn’t mind. However, he will defend you and tell people off if he witnesses or hears about someone flirting with you or saying or doing anything inappropriate to you. He’s not against turning things into a physical fight either if it means protecting of defending you but does typically try to talk things out, but he can also have a short temper and won’t waste time if talking isn’t working.

You’re not really big on body contact or affection at first but do come around and love hugs and support, which he really is quite encouraging, comforting and supportive especially at times when he thinks you need some comfort or encouragement, However, usually he doesn’t shower you with compliments and praise because he doesn’t want to over do it and make it feel like he doesn’t mean the things he says.

You do try to be positive with others and do tend to be a good listener and a good advisor but you have a habit of overthinking things and can even get lost in thought at times, but you are truly intelligent and want the best for people.

Over all he is very loving and cares about you a lot though he can have a hard time telling you how he feels about you especially at the start of the relationship but comes around over time, after all he does want you to know how much you mean to him. He is protective and does what he can to help you with anything you may need, he encourages you to follow your dreams and achieve any of your goals.

He encourages you to speak your mind as well as open up to him but he doesn’t pressure you to do anything, especially if you are shy or uncomfortable, he stands by your side and will help you and be there for you no matter what arises.

ok! so first of all i want to say i headcanon hanzo as being raised female until he was around 14 years old, and theres a disparity in how autistic children who arent cisgender boys are treated/whether or not theyre diagnosed, which is why i hc that even at 38 years old, hanzo still hasnt really figured it out for himself (also being introspective is Scary when you have so much trauma to deal with)

being undiagnosed is a very frustrating experience, especially when youre under pressure to be the Best Son and also the future leader of an entire yakuza clan. i feel like hanzo grew up angry and irritable because he just wasnt getting the help or attention he needed, and even as an adult his needs arent really being met, which is why he can be like. Angery. yknow?

which isnt to say that i only think that hanzos an asshole cause hes neurodivergent fjkdljfl im just saying that like, sensory overload and stuff like that personally makes me angry as hell. anger is one way that anxiety and distress is expressed in a person and i think for hanzo, being angry and loud and mean was the safest way for him to express this distress, because the alternative is being Vulnerable, and its likely he was rewarded for being aggressive when he was young too

so like, with all of that out of the way, i guess i could start listing some specific examples of things hanzo does that makes me go “same hat!” or fit in the criteria for asd in some way

(bear in mind that a lot of these are definitely Reaches but when we know so little about the ovw cast as a whole we can really think whatever we want lol)

hanzo saying “i sense a kindred spirit” to symmetra is really one of the biggest things tbh. symm is canonically autistic and hanzo says this in response to her saying that order and discipline are the most important things in life

he seems to like doing things the same way/sticking to a rigid schedule. an example of this is him going through with his mourning ritual in the dragons short even after learning that genji is still alive. the way that he places the incense and feather is very careful and speaks to him liking things to be a Certain Way

also: “we drink when the job is done” is said Very firmly in junkensteins revenge

his interaction with mccree implies that he doesnt like hard liquors like whiskey and prefers “sophisticated” tastes. being picky about food, especially things with a high sensory experience like drinking alcohol, is very common in asd

I honestly envisioned it as a relatively short fic that flashed through these key scenes kind of quickly. mmm, I think the way I imagined it was that, going into it, Jounouchi already felt frustrated with his relationship with Kaiba for this and that reason, and was anticipating things going awry even before Atem showed up - so that set the stage for their break-up not feeling like this big loss and would give the story a more comedic tone than a dramatic one. but, hmmm, even so it doesn’t really feel good to get dumped or rejected by someone, even by someone you were thinking about dumping or rejecting yourself, so i think dragging this story out would probably give it too many places to collect that kind of sadness. (although, the story would probably be from Atem’s POV, since he’s the one that’s most out-of-the-loop and discovering new dynamics that jou and kaiba are already familiar with)

i’m trying to remember what sparked this story idea to begin with, and I’m drawing a kind of blank. But I do know for a time I was trying hard to think of fic ideas that would pay their dues to both JouKai and prideship in a way? (Not necessarily in a romantic way, although this idea obviously encompassed romantic pride and JouKai and even some dragonship there at the end, lol) Quite a few of my JouKai fics make vague reference to Kaiba’s feelings for Atem, but I thought it would kind of be fun to have a more endgame!prideship kind of fic where Kaiba could have some complicated feelings about Jou that Atem is kind of ‘lolololololo’ about. I’ve since thought of another fic idea that has this aspect that I like better and feel more inclined to perhaps actually write. But, back to the basics, the gist is that Kaiba has a pretty strong emotional response to both Jou and Atem in canon and it’s kind of amusing to me how strongly he associates that response to Jou as negative/shameful/degrading/below-his-attention versus the response to Atem as positive/empowering/worthy. Which is kind of understandable given his interactions with Jou are somewhat more likely to dig up uncomfortable negative feelings and cognitive dissonance than interactions with Atem. (and also Jou’s an asshole who riles people up for ‘fun’) But Kaiba definitely reduces a more mixed bunch of emotional interactions with both of them to a more black/white type of cognition and value judgement. I suppose the idea behind my headcanon post was that I don’t think this kind of black/white thinking would hold up well if Kaiba were to actually compare a romantic relationship with each of them side-by-side, especially when a lot of the things that Kaiba struggles with in relationships - his own capacity for vulnerability, the fact that his partner would have individual wants/desires that sometimes conflict with his - are more his own issues than a matter of who, exactly, he’s with.

I would love to see what other "funny" ways Jou has of ruining Kaiba's relationship.

I said one time that the best part of any ygo ship - doesn’t matter which ship it is - was Jou and Kaiba ruining each other’s love lives. And it’s still true ;_; (joking)

I’m gonna be completely honest with you: I’m feeling like, pretty fucking lazy right now and I’m kickin back in my PJs drinking Vitamin Water and stuff so if anyone else wants to hop in with some quotes and stuff from the books that would be cool! But this is what I have to say about Armand’s Powers just off the top of my head LOL

Armand IS extra good at telepathy and it crops up here and there in the books, and Anne has talked about it on FB and stuff too. (I recall her talking about it on one of her RP threads when she was answering questions as Lestat? (Yeah I said it, that’s an RP thread, Anne.) )

Mostly the thing is that he’s just really good at Mind Gift stuff, especially when it comes to communicating and influencing people. He can also see spirits and auras, which is really rare for vampires. He’s able to cast powerful illusions, notably like in The Vampire Armand when he’s all fucked up and burnt and he creates an illusion for Benji & Sybelle so that they don’t have to see him like that. And there’s the question of how he saved them, if he really was astrally projecting himself and using telekinesis to physically hurt someone.

Those are the things that come to my mind first as far as like objective proof that he’s just really deft, but I’ll bring up a couple other points that are sort of a gray area/headcanon territory.

When we meet him in Interview with the Vampire Louis basically instantly obsessed and in love and keeps talking about how calm and easy Armand feels and in some ways it’s just, so not the Armand that we actually know. Armand even admits to trying to influence him later, to get Louis to come speak to him and probably to leave Claudia. There’s also the way Claudia is all zonked out and quiet when they’re talking to Armand, like he did that to do her, and she mentions to Louis that he was communicating to her directly.

These things in and of themselves may or may not be extraordinary with the Mind Gift. Lestat usually discusses it in a context of “and then I found out I could pop lightbulbs, holy shit!” and he’s not getting into the mechanics of whether or not it’s difficult to maintain varying channels with different people all at once, like how Armand would’ve been doing with Louis and Claudia. So really like, that may or may not be a very average skill to have but I imagine it takes a certain degree of focus and I like to think that Armand is special because he’s my son.

And the same happens in TVL when Lestat meets him and Armand is telling him backstory using mostly Mind Gifting and like, that again is not necessarily an extraordinary feat because a lot of vampires can do it I guess, but Lestat is still a baby fledgling at the time so he’s like OMG DO YOU BELIEVE THIS!!! I also suspect that to be a coven leader you’d need to be fairly adept at Mind Gifting and influencing people when you need to. That seems important. I’m convinced that he used a lot of telepathic manipulation to keep everything in order, and while I love the idea that Armand maybe fell into the same cycle of cruelty from the way he was indoctrinated, I could see a version where he relied on Mind Gifting to break people as a way to keep some tiny last shred of his own dignity. LIKE YKNOW, VERSUS THE METHOD OF STARVING SOMEONE AND FEEDING THEM THEIR BEST FRIEND? YKNOW?

Like don’t get me wrong cause I’m a slut for Armand being cruel but I could also hurt myself with angst and empathy if I entertain that idea. Fuck I’m sad lol.AND THEN! YKNOW LIKE IN QUEEN OF THE DAMNED. It’s like, whose version do we believe if we have Daniel roving around all paranoid and wondering if Armand is DOING this to him? Was he really? Both of them are such messes it’s hard to really say–Daniel was in the throes of addiction to regular substances as well as to Armand’s blood so we can’t 100% trust him not to be paranoid, but who’s to say Armand WASN’T doing it to him?

I know other vampires can spellbind and stuff like that so this is again not to say that Armand’s gifts are necessarily unique, but I think there’s wiggle room here to exaggerate his skill if we want to. Like, for example, I personally got the impression that the whole CALLING SOMEONE FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE is reserved for the extra powerful, like the ancients or like yknow Lestat bcuz he’s a Mary Sue he drank so much of Akasha’s blood, but Armand seems to be able to do it with Daniel, and pinpoint his location or call to him from anywhere.

It’s just weird cause like of the POV characters we get in canon like, we get Lestat and he’s an anomaly, we get Marius who’s like 8 million years old, and then David and Quinn are both like witchy Talamasca bros so they don’t count, and Louis didn’t have the Mind Gift, so… I think there’s not really a good control to look at when we try to figure out like, what does run-of-the-mill Mind Gifting look like? And that leaves me a lot of space to pretend that Armand is extra good.

Anyway my boy is really talented and smart and withdrawn and those are a fantastic combination to let him sulk inside his head for 500 years and practice. ;.;

Okay, so I know you don’t write for Labyrinth, but what about Sarah?

Sarah Williams is still my forever girl!

First impression: I remember finding her REALLY petulant and bothersome when I was younger, in the same way I found Luke Skywalker really petulant and bothersome (do your chores, god!!!!!) but I was also incredibly jealous that she had romantic outfits to play dressup in while wandering around in the park.

Impression now: She’s totally just a normal teenage girl and I love her because she reminds me of so many people that I also love.

Favorite moment: The “it’s all junk” scene -- the Junk Lady is just doing her job by Labyrinth standards, but Sarah being confounded by all the just-so baggage of things that she doesn’t need to necessarily keep, but that she wants to keep for sentimental reasons... idk, it’s a tough push and pull, because I’m a sentimental person, but I don’t really think the gist of that scene (especially in light of the ending) is that you have to give that stuff up to grow up, only that hanging onto stuff just to hang on to it is also painful.

Idea for a story: Sarah mentoring Danny from Cape Fear 1991, or meeting up with Amy from Fright Night when she’s writing CBS Beauty and the Beast fanfiction and Amy is a graduate student writing about demon lover archetypes.

Unpopular opinion: I just can’t get into Jareth/Sarah like I did when I was younger -- I like lots of other het ships with a similar dynamic, but the one-two punch of Jennifer Connolly being genuinely so young IRL and associations with my own childhood is like NOOOOOO.

Favorite relationship: Sarah’s friendships with Hoggle, Sir Didymus, and Ludo! Also, her passing acquaintance with that worm.

Favorite headcanon: Sarah would totally write fanfiction. This is both me pepperjacking, as someone who was never good at playing pretend like Sarah is but engaged that impulse in writing, and like... come on, get hip

I love your Grimlock and his interactions (particularly with his brothers) though I'm curious about his irritation and dislike of optimus in G1 cartoon I know he wasn't always happy with prime but it seems like your grim has a bigger issue with it I was curious why. Sorry if it's annoying you don't have to answer ^v^;

//Not at all! I don’t mind answering questions like these especially since Grimlock himself can’t fully articulate his WHYS, giant emotionally stunted angry toddler that he is! This will probably get a little lengthy so more under the cut. HEAD CANON AHOY!

To start with, G1 (awesomely hilarious as it is) leaves a lot for interpretation of character methods and their thoughts. It was a cartoon aiming to sell toys, not necessarily go into the depths of characterization. Although we do get that later on in the series as it exploded in popularity. We know that the Dinobots are built by Wheeljack and Ratchet. We know they’re different in that we don’t actually know HOW they became alive and sentient considering the Autobots aren’t ever shown getting life from Vector Sigma (like the Aerialbots later on and a friend recently shared their headcanon with me as to why this is possible and frankly I love it and have adopted it as well because it makes a ridiculous amount of sense, morbid as it is). That leaves a lot open to headcanon. We also know that the Dinobots don’t seem to hold any strong sense of loyalty to the Autobots as a whole, considering they’re more likely to act on their own and have switched sides as in the case of the older three at least once.

That being said, Grimlock’s motivation for disliking Prime and how I’ve interpreted it.

Within the first few hours of life, likely confused and doing what they were programmed to do (be powerhouses to deal with enemies the Autobots couldn’t), Grimlock, Slag and Sludge proceed to completely WRECK THE AUTOBOTS’ COLLECTIVE SHIT. Nobody bothered to find out why or what might have gone wrong. Nobody said, ‘hey! Let’s see if there’s something in their coding we can tweak to maybe make them distinguish ally from foe’. No, Optimus flips his shit and tells Wheeljack to DESTROY them. Wheeljack doesn’t and instead locks them behind a wall of rubble.

To be fair to Optimus and the other ‘Bots, nobody thought the Dinobots were alive or even aware. They were probably viewed as little more than fighting drones. But Grimlock doesn’t understand that. He just knows that they weren’t alive very long before everything was just kind of dark for who knows how long. (It’s only a few episodes in G1, but it’s safe to say those episodes could have spanned weeks or even months for all we know of G1′s wonky timeline.)

Then when they’re dug out of the wall, it was only to be told to go and fight the Decepticons. Grimlock didn’t so much mind that because that’s what he was built for. He ENJOYS fighting. It’s a series of only ever really being acknowledged when the Autobots NEED them to wreck someone’s day that has built up behind the scenes in Grimlock’s psyche that have added to his collective dislike of the Autobots as a whole. Optimus, in a sense, represents them and so the majority of this particular slight gets focused on Prime as well.

Then later, using the fact that the Autobots have inbuilt limited intelligence (though I promise that Grimlock does have the capacity to learn and he has over his 30 years of life, it’s just taken him longer to get from point A to B than normal bots), Megatron straight out lies to them in a way that makes sense to the Dinobots and turns them on Prime. Once again, nobody ever taught or gave the Dinobots any reason to NOT be taken advantage of in this situation and when it backfired on the Autobots, the Dinobots get blamed for being violent and out of control.

Thus Swoop and Snarl are made. Because the reaction to fixing the Dinobot problem was clearly to make them little brothers. Whose purpose is to kill their big brothers for being out of control. Once again a situation the Autobots created themselves with really only a very little prompting from Megatron’s influence.

Are we seeing a pattern here?

So now he’s been locked in a wall after doing what he was programmed to do, a lot of little incidents built up that’s fostered the already existing smidgen of resentment, Prime continually telling him to be less violent and more ‘leader like’, his little brothers being built to kill him and/or keep him in check (though being honest, that backfired on the Autobots too. Dinobot solidarity. Camaraderie in outsiderness. Take that Autobots.) Prime’s unwillingness to deal with the problem that is Megatron even though he’s had SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES and being taken advantage of because he’s considered stupid by BOTH sides (though we should EXPECT that from Decepticons, at least), Prime’s hypocrisy in how all life should be treated fairly, but his own disingenuous attempts (though whether he’s aware that it’s disingenuous or not remains to be seen) to treat the Dinobots with anything bordering on respect and a lack of any kind of help to perhaps reverse the process and overall getting the vague feeling he’s seen as LESS and more of an animal than a Cybertronian (plus his own arrogance and inability to deal with a lot of his own emotions)-

Well. Grimlock, to put it frankly, is tired of Prime’s shit and he’s not afraid to make that abundantly clear in his dislike and overall belligerence in anything that has to deal with Prime. He feels much the same about Prowl, but Prowl has this funny way with words that leave Grimlock more confused than angry more often than not.

There’s a lot more, but this here is the gist of it.

I was looking at other shows on the Archive and noticed Riverdale has over 5k stories which is more than most. Do you think the motivation to write so much fanfic for a fledgling series comes more from the desire to correct the bad writing decisions and fill in the gaps or rather the wonderful characters they created taking on a life of their own?

I think you ask a very interesting question, Grayface.

Firstly - as I answer I feel like I need to stipulate that my experience is with the 2700+ Bughead specific fics on Ao3 as opposed to the over 5k in the general Riverdale tag. I have read a very small handful of non-Bughead but Riverdale fic and while I have enjoyed the random Archeryl fic (and even read one or two polyamory related fics which definitely weren’t my bag) - I’m most comfortable talking about the corner of the fandom that makes me happy so I can’t say for sure that the motivations of the other Riverdale fics are the same but I’ll do my best.

ALSO - I did some preliminary research in answering and noted that in the TV category there are fandoms with many many fics (Sherlock has 106,564 - SKAM has 4819 - Supergirl has 17,159 - Supernatural has 185,296 - Buffy has 27,333) but it’s definitely true that there are many more with just a few fics (Naked and Afraid only has 1… which you will never be able to convince me wasn’t written by Lili Reinhart under a pseudonym).

And while it’s true that MOST fandoms don’t have as many fics as Riverdale does (and Bughead is literally 47% of the Riverdale tag - which is amazing for a single ship) - I don’t know necessarily that we can say it’s simply because of overall dissatisfaction with how the writers write canon.

Part of it may be that - but as @mothermaple said to me last night (as I was mulling over how to answer your question) - we both think we are a very invested fandom because a lot of us have been reading the comics for decades, we love the characters, and we have all kinds of thoughts and headcanons about them because many of us have shipped Bughead for 20+ years. Then the powers that be introduced us to a show with beautiful characters, compelling actors (even when they cheese it up and/or overact), and pretty visuals (I love me a fog machine). When you love the characters and world so much, and you love to write, everything kind of just falls into place.

Your specific question was:

Do you think the motivation to write so much fanfic for a fledgling series comes more from the desire to correct the bad writing decisions and fill in the gaps or rather the wonderful characters they created taking on a life of their own?

I’m going answer this a couple ways and please know this is not a criticism towards any person in particular. I’m not saying what I’m saying to call out anyone or belittle anyone’s feelings.

Firstly. Whether you like the direction of canon or not, whether you think the writing is crap or not - it doesn’t change the fact that THIS is the canon we’ve been given. I see a lot of people pining for what we got in season 1 and while there are definitely aspects of season 1 that I miss - THIS is what we have.

If you don’t like how something went down in Season 2 - then by all means write canon!divergent fix-it fic. A lot of our Bughead fic in particular is fix-it, but more than a lot of it is AU - so then it isn’t really about the bad writing in canon - and more about wanting to see these kids in a variety of different ways that canon couldn’t and wouldn’t show us. Coffee shop AU. College AU. Fake Dating AU. New York AU. Meteorologist AU. New Girl AU.

I’ve also read some really amazing “missing moments” fics. They aren’t always to emphasize how crappy canon writing is... but more so illustrate that while the show is only 45 minutes - and those forty five minutes can’t 100% be devoted to Bughead (as much as some of us wish they could) - so the missing moment fics fill in the space between what we saw on screen and what happened next. I love those fics. @litladyloveshp writes them particularly well but there are lots.

But I think it’s important to emphasize the last bit of your question, Grayface. Have these characters taken on a life of their own? I think so yes. I think this is the main reason we have been blessed with SO much fic.

You can see that in many of the tv fandoms I pointed out with stats above - it’s much the same. Let’s talk Sherlock Holmes as a character. There aren’t over 100k stories in the Elementary fandom... but there are in the Sherlock fandom. Is that because the Sherlock writers are awful? I dunno. I don’t think so. But I know it’s because the characters are compelling and we want to see more of what we love - regardless of what we have available in canon (whether that’s Adlock for @paperlesscrown or Sherlolly for me).

In my view, there has been an explosion of fics for Riverdale as the characters have become more developed and become more loved - as people fall in love with their portrayals by amazing actors like Lili and Cole and KJ and Camila.

What I find particularly interesting is that Dynasty (for example) is on the same channel as Riverdale - and has some really beautiful cast members (like Riverdale) and a few good and a few terrible writers (like Riverdale) and yet there are only 17 stories on the Archive for that show. Seventeen. Compared to over 5k. Isn’t that fascinating?

I’m not sure whether my babbling has actually answered your question to any satisfactory degree. But I hope you’ve managed to get the simple gist of my answer. I love our fandom and my FAVOURITE part of fandom is the fic and people who write it. Canon won’t be here forever but there are definitely Bughead fics I’ll read over and over again (just like I do for Veronica Mars or AHS or any other show/film I love that does not have a continuous feed of canon to draw from). I feel SO privileged to ship something that is canon and I’m really really looking forward to this hiatus and all the awesome fanworks that are sure to come.

Triton Society and my Triton PC

So when I started to get into DnD I looked at all the possibilities for my first character, and the one that interested me the most was a Triton druid. So off I went googling away finding all the info I could on them. Discovering that there was barely two pages worth of info on them I had no choice but to invent it myself. So here’s that + my Triton

Triton Society

I’m writing this with the assumption that you’ve this. Everything written there also counts in this society. If you REALLY don’t want to it basically says the Triton fought evil elementals in the Plane of Water and traveled to the Material Plane when the elementals did, and have since then lived deep under the sea.

Physiology

Since Triton’s mainly live in the “deep sea trenches” chances are they don’t have many places with sunlight. That has led me to assume they have Dark Vision. (the manual say they “ ignore any of the drawbacks caused by a deep, underwater environment.” but doesn’t specify if that’s general Dark Vision).

Plants are more or less non-existent in the deep sea due to no sunlight so I consider Triton’s obligate carnivores. There are some unique plant life however, as well as plant materials who come down from further up, and therefore decided that they can eat some kelp and other plants with their meat.

Inspired by the amazing artwork from this post I also decided that Triton’s have variations of this, some are shorter other’s longer depending on genes and adaptations.

Male Triton have overall more color variations and patterns in their skin, while female Triton’s are usually bigger.

Reach maturity age 15, body doesn’t start “decaying” until the last 30 years of their life. The only way to tell a 20 year old Triton apart from a |50 year old one is based on the amount of scars racked up after years fighting elementals and other dangerous creatures.

Culture

Triton’s have a semi-diverse culture. Not as diverse as human’s, but with enough difference to cause confusion to other species. Triton societies closer to the surface in outposts or smaller cities have adapted and integrated with the surface world. Deep Sea cultures meanwhile has little touch with races other than themselves. The most alien culture comes from the Triton’s who never left the Plane of Water. Though similar to the Deep Sea cultures, Water Triton’s have never engaged the ecosystem of the Material Plane and therefore no understanding of life in that world. (The rest of this will be about Deep Sea societies since that’s where my PC’s from)

The Triton’s sense of duty in holding of and hunting down the evil elemental’s of the Plane of Water has shaped their culture. Their society is built upon a principle of order, duty and regiment. Being a scholar, adventurous or a non-combatant isn’t necessarily looked down upon, but it’s expected that every Triton aid each other when called upon. (Think the Qun from Dragon Age, just not THAT hardcore)

The Triton’s have different roles and societal classes which can be categorized as

Leader/Royalty: The leaders or royals, depending on what city, guide their people both in war and peace. Leaders are picked from notable heroes who’ve helped their people, either through excellent fighting tactics, inventions or anyone who’ve achieved greatness for their people.

Noble: A noble Triton isn’t the same as a noble human. If you’re a noble Triton either you or your parents (while you’re still living with them/reliant on them) serve as a non-combatant, usually taking care of the running of the city. Due to the nature of this role they gain certain privileges other’s does not. (Something that’s highly disputed among Triton society, but so far has stayed the same).

Guard/Warrior: These Triton’s are the most common: They serve as the law, guardian’s and hunter’s of the Triton society. These Triton’s have the most varied lives. If you’re a personal guard of a noble you might gain privileges a warrior fighting in the ranks of a general might not. They are however heavily appreciated and for most family something to strive to become.

Artisan: Artisan’s are the most diverse class. Teachers, performers, merchants

My Triton druid

He doesn’t have a name, because that’s usually the last thing I make. It would be a bit posh sounding probably, and harsh since it’s in primordial.

I imagine introducing myself going along the lines of: You see a small humanoid, carrying a spear made of some type fish bone, with a large shark teeth at the end. Wearing brown leather with short fur (it’s from sea lions) clinging to the small man’s frame, ending at the person’s knees leaving his damp, dark blue skin exposed. His medium length green hair pulled back and braided into it, red algae of various types. On his fin-like ear hangs a strange multi-colored sea shell. (I’m not a writer, but y’all get the gist). I also imagine he has some scales or markings but I don’t know what or how it would look. So insert generic mermaid look.

Background: 22 years old. I’m not going to write a lot of it. I’m still working on it, and well if I end up playing him with someone who follows me I don’t want them finding it out. But a quick summary: Grew up in one of the deep sea cities. The fourth child to a noble woman and city guard/warrior father. Was born prematurely due to an attack on his mother while she was pregnant.

Druidism: The Triton’s doesn’t have proper druidic circles or a druidic culture (headcanon). But they have a general respect for sea life. Due to their ability to “talk” to sea animals they keep animals as pets or farm animals. Not used as cows or sheep by the surface races, Triton’s keep the animals and protect them from the danger’s of the deep, and only kill the animals when in need of food or leather. It’s through this he cultivated his cultivated his druidic abilites. He sees nature not as something that should be carefully guarded and remain untouched by “human” touch, but something to be explored and not wasted or abused for no reason, but something to be used fully. Life is a cycle, he is the continuation of that.

Personality: Very curious, especially since he came to the surface, want’s to discover the wonder’s of the surface world. Cares less of politial intrigue and cities, more important to learn how nature works on the surface. Has a journal where he writes and draws stuff he discovers, especially focused on animals. He wants to turn into them after all. Not especially intelligent, though he’s pretty wise and can be charismatic when he really tries. As is common for his people he takes what people say as the truth and can be easily fooled.

This took a lot longer to write than I thought, but here it is. If anyone wants to make their own triton feel free to use anything here (but like link me to it if you make a post I want to see it). Same goes if people want’s do make their own triton society. If other people have ideas how their society would work reblog and add it, or since I’m a bad writer wants to rewrite this and make it better, you can do that as well.
