I had every intention of not posting anything regarding my Halloween fics until October, however, I'm so excited about this fic idea I have based on V.A. Vandevere and decided to create a banner for the fic! 😁

V.A. Vandevere’s arrival  theme sounded the exact opposite of what I thought it be.  I would think it be loud - uplifting like the circus. but instead the music gives you a hint of sadness, pinch of sinister vibe, dash of mellow tone to it that perhaps the dude only being a showman when he has to be in front of people and when he’s not he’s plotting for the future of the circus.

Dumbo 2019 characters’ zodiac signs (Part 1):
(Side Note: this is pure fandom thoughts, a headcanon idea. None of this signs are based on the real signs of the actors who portray them. This is based only on the characters. Any similarity is pure coincidence.)
-----------------------------------------------------------
Holt Farrier ---> Cancer ♋
Tumblr media
I was split on placing Holt on Cancer or Leo. On the one hand, it would make a lot of sense that he’ll be a Leo: he has honor, he’s good-hearted, loyal and loves being a performer. But I decided placing him on Cancer because even though he enjoys being The Stallion Star of the circus, first and foremost he is a father, a family man.
Cancer is a sign that is very known for its nurturing and maternal (in this case paternal) nature. It is said that the ones who are born on this sign are super protective, loyal and have a great level of empathy for the others. Those are things that describe Holt pretty well, despite feeling disconected from his children when he returns from the war and having lost his wife Annie, (who I also think she would’ve been a Cancer) he still tried to get his feet back on the ground and reconnect with Milly and Joe ‘cause he loves them so much.
Tumblr media
Let’s not forget that besides his children, Holt is also very caring with other people who he see as family, like Dumbo and Colette. And when either Colette or the little elephant are in danger, the cowboy would not think twice and he’ll protect them and comfort them. Holt would do anything to keep the ones who love safe, not matter the cost.
Besides, Cancer is a water sign, water signs are very emotional and Holt, after all the pain he has been through, he has an emotional rollercoaster inside his heart and shows it even though he wants to hide it.
V.A. Vandevere ---> Capricorn♑
Tumblr media
Kind of an obvious choice but this fits perfectly with the character.
For the ones who don’t know Capricorns are people who are absolutely great in bussiness. They’re super organized and, just like Vandevere, know how to get money. He loves money, that’s a fact and he’ll do anything to get a loot of it.
VA is a super ambitious, cunning and smart; he knows exactly what he wants and he usually gets it most of the time. He’s greedy but not to the point to becoming a Scrooge (or at least that’s what I think, lol). Vandevere loves doing things his way and his way only; like any other Capricorn he is practical, he knows what’s useful and what is not and he’ll not hesitate to toss in the trash the latter.
Tumblr media
Other important thing to talk about is that, being so good in bussiness, a Capricorn is always well spoken, have a very polite in the way of express himself and being disciplined or uptight. VA might be greedy but he is already an impresario so he has an image and a reputation first. He will always act like a gentleman and make sure his name is clean. Even if is just in appearences.
Colette Marchant ----> Leo♌
Tumblr media
A fire sign like Leo is the best to represent our beloved Queen of Heavens.
Like any other sign with the element fire, Leos are super passionate with hot blood. They’re naturally outgoing people and being the center of attention is the thing they love the most. Colette is all that and more. She is a very fun, charming and talented lady and likes to everybody knows it.
Sometimes, wanting to be the center of attention may sound egotistical, that having this great Leo advantage of being so charismatic might lead you to turn into someone who likes to brag. Just like Colette when she started to work with Holt in the training tent. Colette adores what she does (aerial and trapeze acts) and because she worked on Dreamland for so many years, both as an actress and circus artist, she started to get lots of fame thing she did not denied to enjoy.
Tumblr media
But, just like any Leo, Colette is a friendly, loyal and good hearted woman. She may act like a diva or a spoiled girl but not because she’s selfcentered, is because she is very passionate on what she does and likes to speak her mind. She will always help her friends, try to make them feel better with her charm and make them see the good of themselves.
Part Two will be coming soon... ;-)

Duke Reviews Xtra: Dumbo 2019
Hello I'm Andrew Leduc And Welcome To Another Duke Reviews Xtra Where We Continue Our Look At Disney
youtube
And Last Sunday On Duke Reviews, I Reviewed Dumbo, So, Since I Looked At The Original On There We Might As Well Do The Remake Here...
Directed By Tim Burton, This Movie Sees A Family That Works At A Failing Travelling Circus That Encounters A Baby Elephant With Extremely Large Ears Who Is Capable Of Flying Which They Use To Help Save The Circus...
But When The Circus Attracts A New Investor (Played By...)
Tumblr media
They Soon Discover His New Plans That Conceal Dark Secrets...
Will The Family Stop The Investor And Save Dumbo?
Let's Find Out As We Watch Dumbo...
The Movie Starts In 1919 As The Medici Bros. Circus Packs Up And Gets On Board Their Train, Casey Jr. To Go On Tour To Various Locations...
Stopping In Joplin, The Circus Sets Up As We Meet Milly And Joe Farrier (Played By Finley Hobbins And Nico Parker, Who Is Honestly The Worst Thing In This Movie, I'm Sorry But The Girl Just Cannot Act)...
Whose Mother Died From The Flu While Their Father, Holt Farrier (Played By Colin Farrell) Fought In World War 1 And Is Returning Today..
But Unfortunately He Lost His Left Arm In The War And Is Unable To Do What He Used To Do In The Circus But Asking The Owner, Max Medici (Played By Danny Devito) For A Job...
Wait A Minute! 1st Off Since This Is A Tim Burton Movie, Is Danny Devito Playing The Same Ringmaster Character He Played In Big Fish Or Is This Ringmaster A Different Character? Because I'm Confused...
Tumblr media
And Second, Danny Devito And Michael Keaton In The Same Movie? All We Need Is Michelle Pfeiffer To Go...
Tumblr media
And We'd Have Ourselves A Batman Returns Reunion!
Tumblr media
So, Unable To Give Holt His Old Job Back As He Sold The Horses Holt Uses To Get Money For The Circus And Because Of Holt's Arm, Max Gives Him The Job Of Taking Care Of The Elephants Including One Named Mrs. Jumbo Who Is Pregnant...
The Next Day, Mrs. Jumbo Gives Birth To A Baby Elephant With Abnormally Large Big Ears. Feeling He Got Ripped Off, Max Orders Holt To Get Rid Of The Ears Before The Public Can See Them...
However, The Baby Accidentally Reveals His Ears In His Debut Performance And The Crowd Laughs At Him And Names Him Dumbo While Pelting Him With Peanuts....
Horrified And Enraged At Her Son's Mistreatment, Mrs. Jumbo Races Into The Ring And Causes Extensive Damage, Collapsing The Big Top Which Results In The Death Of An Abusive Handler Named Rufus...
Afterwards We Get The Baby Mine Scene...
youtube
Before Max Decides Sell Mrs. Jumbo To Avoid A Public Relations Disaster...
What The Hell, Burton!
How Could You Have This Happen In This Movie! And The Sad Part Is Nobody Does Anything To Prevent It! Not Even Colin Freaking Farrell..
Who In My Opinion Is The Worst Character In This Movie As Ever Since He Got Back He Hasn't Acted Like Much Like A Father To These Kids...
Talking With Dumbo In His Cage, Milly And Joe Comfort Dumbo And Discover That He Can Fly By Flapping His Ears And That Feathers Are The Key To Get Him To Do It...
So, The Next Night, Dumbo Plays The Role Of A Firefighter Who Puts Out A Fire With Water From His Trunk But When The Performance Goes Wrong And Dumbo Is Trapped On A Platform Surrounded By Flames, Milly Risks Her Life To Deliver A Feather To Dumbo To Give Him The Confidence To Fly...
youtube
(Start At 1:32, End At 2:27)
Hearing The News About Dumbo, V.A. Vandevere, Owner Of Dreamland Amusement Park Visits The Circus And Proposes A Collaboration With Medici As His Partner And Circus Troupe Employed To Perform At Dreamland...
However, Later Vandevere Demands That Dumbo Should Fly With His Trapeze Artist College Marchant (Played By Eva Green)...
In A Role That For Once Requires No Nudity From Her...
On Dumbo's Back...
Later That Night We Get The Pink Elephants Sequence Of This Movie And While Alot Hate What They Did To It, I Kind Of Like It...
youtube
(Start At 0:10)
I Know That Some People Are Going To Say That I'm A Sell Out But Imagine You Were At A Real Circus And You Saw This, I Would Be Astonished By What I'm Seeing...
This Leads Up To Their Debut Performance Which Has A Cleaver Introduction From Michael Buffer Who You May Know From Saying This Most Of His Life..,
youtube
(Start At 0:09)
And In This It's..,
youtube
(Start At 0:39, End At 0:45)
Anyway, Their Debut Goes Horribly Wrong With Collette Nearly Falling To Her Death (Thanks To Colin Farrell Saving Her After Realizing She Didn't Have A Net Under Her Like She Did In Practice) And Dumbo Barely Hanging On And Trumpeting For Help...
But After He Hears His Mom's Call, Dumbo Finds A Feather And Flies Around The Arena Before Exiting To Go Find His Mom In A Place Called Nightmare Island, Eventually Finding Her, He Is Taken Away From Her By Vandevere And His Men As The Kids And Holt Realize That The Elephant On Nightmare Island Is Mrs. Jumbo...
Telling This To Vandevere, He Feels That Dumbo Is Better Off Alone As That's How He Grew Up, He Orders Jumbo To Be Taken Away And Killed Before He Fires The Other Members Of The Medici Circus Troupe Believing Them To Be Pale Imitations Of The Acts They Have At Dreamland...
As They Go To Say Goodbye To Dumbo, Vandevere Right Hand Man, Sotheby Clears His Conscience By Telling Holt, The Kids, Collette And The Troupe About Vandevere's Intentions To Kill Jumbo...
Tumblr media
Wow, This Has Got To Be The Biggest Betrayal To A Character That Michael Keaton Has Played Since Alfred Showed Vicki Vale The Batcave...
So Utilizing Their Various Talents, The Medici Troupe Decides To Break Jumbo Out Of Her Enclosure While Holt And Collette Guide Dumbo To Fly Out Of The Circus With Help From Max When He Realizes What's Going On...
In Attempting To Stop Them, Vandevere Starts That Is Triggered By His Bad Handling Of The Electrical System Which Spreads And Destroys Dreamland...
Tumblr media
Taking Dumbo And Jumbo To A Port, Everyone Says Goodbye To Dumbo Before Him And Jumbo Board A Ship Back To Their Native Land...
With Vandevere Arrested For Arson Through Misconduct, The Medici Brothers Circus Is ReEstablished As The Medici Family Circus Which Is Flourishes As Dumbo And Jumbo Reunite With A Herd Of Elephants In The Jungle...
And That Is The Remake Of Dumbo And Despite Everyone Hating This One, I Liked It...
I Admit When This Came Out I Didn't Like The Way It Looked, I Wanted Dumbo And Jumbo To Look More Like Real Elephants Instead Of CG Ones...
I Didn't Like Danny Devito As The Ringmaster In This Because As I Said He Played A Ringmaster In Big Fish And I Thought People Would Get Confused Between That Ringmaster And This One...
I Didn't Like The Fact That They Didn't Have Any Of The Other Songs From The Movie In It And I Didn't Like How It Wasn't More Like The Movie...
But Looking Back At The Original Movie I Realized Not Only That Making It Like The Animated Movie Would Have Been Wrong And That Unlike Snow White Pinocchio And Fantasia That Came Before It And Was Longer, Dumbo Is Shorter Than Those Movies And It Can Be Expanded On And Added To...
I Also Understand Why They Didn't Have Any Other Songs In The Movie Because Having When I See An Elephant Fly And Not Have It Be Sung By The Black Crows (Despite It Being Racist) Would Have Been Wrong...
But I Still Would To Have Heard Pink Elephants On Parade During The Pink Elephants Sequence (Even If They Just Make It A Musical Score) The Same Could Have Been With Casey Jr. At The Very Beginning Of The Movie But I Do Like The Scene Where Danny Devito Sings It...
Also I Would Have Liked It If They Used A Real Elephants In Some Scenes And CG Elephants In Others Instead Of Just Going Full CG...
But Despite Those Complaints And Realizations I Liked The Story For What It Was I Liked Most Of The Cast (Except For Colin Farrell And That One Girl Who Played His Daughter) The Visual Effects Were Amazing And I Just Honestly Enjoyed It So This One I'm Saying See It...
Tune In Next Week As We Look At Bambi 2, Till Then, This Is Duke, Signing Off...

Shadow Of A Dream - V. A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton - Dumbo) x Reader
Synopsis: Your husband's precious dream is shattered, but you two can rebuild.
Notes: Takes place directly after the movie, so spoilers!
Tumblr media
You walk as softly as you can into the parlour, where you know your husband is sitting. He's been in here for days, doing nothing but staring out the window. It's hard to watch him like this... but it's understandable. He had just seen his dream go up in flames the past week, all based on a whim he had been certain would skyrocket business.
"I brought you some tea," you say, setting the cup down. He doesn't respond. "I put something sweet in it for you." Still, nothing. You know he likes to be alone when dealing with things, but you're worried about him. He's neglecting food, not sleeping properly.
You walk over, sliding your arms around his neck and down his chest, and see that he's fallen asleep. An empty brandy glass lays smashed under his chair. He wakes up with a start, and reaches for your arms, giving them a squeeze.
"(y/n)," he whispers. "You're still here?"
"What are you talking about?" you smile, "Did you have a bad dream?"
"No, I..." he looks utterly perplexed. "They always leave."
Your heart breaks a little at the sincere vulnerability in his voice.
"Well, I'm not them. I'm me." You sit on the edge of his desk across from him, and fix his silver wig. He smiles at the gesture, and takes your hands.
"I won't hold it against you if you go. My life's work, it's... been destroyed. I have no money, I have no credit, I'd..." he shakes his head, "I don't even know how I could keep you."
You gently take off the diamond necklace he proudly wooed you with the first night you met, and place it on the desk.
"I'd say that'll buy us some time to think, hm?"
He doesn't know whether to laugh or cry-- he just pulls you into his arms, and then the decision is made for him. Tears start to stream down his cheeks as he holds you close to him.
"It was that elephant, and Medici," he whispers, "It was them. What I did was selfish. Power hungry." He pulls back, a glint in his eye. "But I'd do it all again." His knuckles whiten. "I built myself up from nothing. When my parents gave me up, I was left with nothing but a dream. I had to fight for myself on the streets of New York with the rest of the vermin. None of them know the meaning of mystery. Of mystique! On the street, I was Victor Allen. Another grey face in a sea of grey, unremarkable bodies. But V.A. Vandevere..." his eyes noticeably brighten, take on an exciteable gleam that almost reflects the circus. "...he's the ticket to real magic. I'm the ticket. And my girl, I would do all of it again if it meant watching my dreams come true one more time."
You run your hand down his arm, and bite your lip. "That's my Vandy." You press a soft kiss to his cheek, kissing down to the corner of his lips. "You can rebuild. We can rebuild."
He smirks, imagining his name back up in lights, a bigger, better 'Dreamland'.
"So whatdya say... Dream Daddy?" you tease, giving his bottom lip a little lick, and he drags you in for a real kiss, cupping your cheeks.
"I say... it's showtime, baby mine."

Dumbo (2019) Review
Tim Burton's new Dumbo is another film to crash into his ever-growing resume of miserable movie remakes and reboots. Not to say that they have all been bad, but the likes of 1989's Batman and 2007's Sweeney Todd are looking more and more isolated in the 'good' column. It is a film that attempts to take flight, only to land with a thud. A disappearing act of the directness, candid and enchantment of the original 1939 illustrated work of Helen Aberson and Harold Pearl, then to becomes the 1941 Disney animated classic. And what we end up getting is an overtly cluttered story, marooned in its own mechanical responsiveness which see the titular elephant gets frequently upstaged in his own film, with the headline act being an unforgivable emotional incompetency.
The warning sign are there early on as the bizarrely prioritised human story unfolds. As Colin Farrell's former circus stunt rider, Holt returns from the front lines of World War 1 now missing his left arm, his young children Millie and Joe (Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins) react with the same awe-struck surprise of a wax-work dummy. The news of the passing of their mother and Holt's wife, delivered by travelling circus impresario Medici (Danny DeVito) feels like a mere footnote. Things don't fair much better when we are introduced to the cute but muted pachyderm Dumbo. His dainty size and bedsheet-like ears make him an instant target for ridicule and rejection. The character-design of Dumbo hits a home-run with his beady-eyed adorableness, but his visual presentation cannot compensate for the emotional weight left by his largely underwritten animal character. As a result, the original film's most famous tear-jerking scene is a botch job, with only mild effectiveness if you're an avid animal-lover.
Burton instead retains his focus on creating generalised bad humans to go up against the good ones that will make their rise to heroic figures more triumphant. Michael Keaton in a palpable blonde wig, plays the wicked amusement park owner V.A. Vandevere who makes Dumbo into his newest headline attraction of his mega-circus 'Dreamland'. This is where Burton finds his most visual flair and flamboyant decadence at the expense of a complex and engaging story. To help pad out the already overstayed plot is an obtuse romance subplot with Holt and Vandevere's trapeze artist girlfriend Collette (Eva Green). The film barely scratches the surface about the human truculence towards animals, and fails to touch more on the parallel ideas of loss. And a generic, cautionary tale of the evils of corrupt capitalism is laid bare at the film's ho-hum conclusion.
Tim Burton's Dumbo and its repression of the original's movie magic makes for a listless time that will make both kids and parent wish they'd gone to a live circus.

Dumbo “Prepare for Takeoff” Sneak Peak
Tim Burton’s Dumbo follows the titular elephant from his birth at Max Medici’s (Danny Devito) circus, where is entrusted to the care of Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his two kids (Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins), to what happens to the young elephant after his unique talent is discovered. Dumbo’s abilities attract the attention of V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton) who recruits Dumbo for his newest entertainment venture called Dreamland where Dumbo will perform with aerial artist Colette Marchant (Eva Green).
Dumbo hits theaters on March 29, 2019.
