Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The club pulsated with energy, a kaleidoscope of lights and thumping bass. the sparkling lights casting an ethereal glow over the dance floor where bodies writhed and moved in perfect synchrony with the music. All in contrast with the hockey player's introspective mood as he tries to unwind during the All Star break. Amidst the vibrant nightlife of New York City, Luke and some of his teammates sought solace from the usual grind of early morning practices and back-to-back matches. Yet, the unfamiliar surroundings left Luke feeling out of place, longing for the familiar embrace of the ice beneath his skates.
His teammates were a blur of motion and laughter, their voices blending together in a cacophony of excitement as they raised their glasses in toast after toast. They were in their element, basking in the freedom of the moment, but for Luke, the scene felt foreign.
He longed for the familiar comfort of the ice rink, where the rules were clear, and his place in the world was defined by the swift glide of his skates. But here, in this crowded club, he felt adrift, his confidence waning with each passing moment.
Trays of drinks arrived at their table with alarming frequency, each one greeted with cheers and whoops of delight from his teammates. Luke tried to join in, tried to lose himself in the rhythm of the music, but it was no use. Without his stick and skates, he felt like a stranger in his own skin, disconnected from the world around him.
His eyes scanned the throng of dancers, searching for something – anything – to distract him from his growing sense of unease. That’s when he spotted her. A vision of confidence and allure amidst the chaos, she moved with a grace that mesmerized him. Clad in a sleek black dress that hugged her curves in all the right places, she seemed to command the attention of everyone around her. She was dancing, moving her body without a worry, the music seemed to dance around her rather than the other way around.
Luke felt his breath catch in his throat as he watched her, his heart pounding in his chest with a rhythm that matched the pulsating beat of the music. His teammates noticed his fixation and wasted no time chirping him mercilessly, their laughter ringing in his ears like a taunting melody.
“Hey Luke, what’s got you all hot and bothered over there?” Dawson jeered, nudging him with a playful smirk.
“Yo Luke, check out that hottie on the dance floor! You gonna make a move or what?” Alexander chimed in pointing towards the woman swaying her hips in the middle of the crowd.
Dawson again, playfully nudged Luke with his elbow, “Yeah man, you’ve practically drooling at the sight of her. Time to put on your big boy pants and go talk to her.”
Alexander chuckled at his comment as he made his way towards them from across the table, drink in hand. “Come on, Luke, what’s the worst that could happen? She turns you down? At least you’ll have a good story to tell.”
Their encouragement spurred Luke on, with each passing moment, his confidence grew. Finally, Luke built up the courage to push himself out of his spot, he took a hold of his drink downing it in one big sip as a form of liquid courage, before making his way towards the confident stranger.
As he approached the captivating stranger, his palms grew sweaty, his nerves threatening to get the best of him. But then she turned to face him, her eyes meeting with a playing glint, and suddenly everything else faded away.
“Excuse me,” he said, his voice barely audible above the music. “Mind if I join you?”
The stranger's smile widened as he looked him up and down, her gaze lingering on his face for a moment before she spoke.
“Depends,” she replied, her voice teasing. “Can you keep up?”
Luke felt a surge of adrenaline coursing through his veins as he met her mischievous gaze, every nerve in his body suddenly nowhere to be found as a sense of determination washed over him.
“Only one way to find out,” he said, returning her smile with a confidence he didn’t know he possessed.
She playfully smirked as her hands snaked up his chest sending shivers down his spine. She took a hold of his arms gently but confidently placing them on her hips, before resting her own around his neck. Lost in the rhythm of the dance, the world around them seemed to blur into insignificance. With each sway of the hips pulling them closer and closer together. The energy of the club, the throb of the music, all of it paled in comparison to the current crackling through the small space that separated them.
Then, as if drawn by a force greater than either could resist, they found themselves closer still, the tension between them sparking with the promise of something more. It was in this charged atmosphere that Luke, emboldened by the moment and the undeniable connection he felt with her, made his move. Their eyes locked, a silent agreement of lust passing between them, and then their lips met in a kiss that sent shockwaves through them both.
The kiss was electric, a fusion of longing and passion that seemed to stop time itself. Around them, the music and the crowd faded into a distant hum, the only reality that mattered was the feel of her lips on his, the taste of her, the way she seemed to melt into him as if she belonged there. It was a moment of pure exhilaration, a confirmation of the attraction that had been simmering between them from the moment they'd locked eyes.
But as quickly as the moment came, it was torn away. The stranger was suddenly pulled back into the sea of dancers, a playful wink her only goodbye before she disappeared into the crowd, leaving Luke amidst the pulsating lights and music, his heart racing and his lips still tingling from their kiss.
The abrupt end to their connection left Luke reeling, a mix of euphoria and confusion swirling within him. The kiss had been real, the sparks undeniable. Yet now, as he stood alone on the dance floor, her absence felt like a sudden chill, the warmth of their encounter a memory that left him yearning for more.

Good Omens fic recs
Hello all! Wanted to share a few of my longtime faves. These are all pre-s2, might do another with my post-s2 recs? Narrowed it down to 10, since that's the max links tumbl lets you have in a post.
Any Way You Want It
Author: Justkeeptrekkin Words: 27,500 Chapters: 5/5 Rating: Mature Mood: Vacation, soft but introspective After finally getting heaven and hell off their backs (at a cost) Crowley and Aziraphale go on holiday to a cottage in Scotland. Fluffy with fun snappy dialogue, the two really feel like best friends here! Aziraphale struggles with his tendency to go slower than even he wants.
Instructions Not Included
Author: Atalan Words: 68,000 Chapters: 13/13 Rating: Teen Mood: Detective / Gen (There are feelings but it earns that slowburn tag) My "if season 2 isn't good, this is my season 2" fic. Now, I liked season 2, but this is still SO good. After the notpocalypse, Aziraphale and Crowley start a detective agency investigating supernatural happenings together. New characters include Raphael (who totally missed the apocalypse haha whoops), and a big spooky dog (whomst I adore). Note that while this fic stands just fine on its own, there is an unfinished sequel that imo doesn't leave off anywhere stressful.
When in Rome
Author: Kedreeva Words: 4,000 Rating: General Mood: The liminal space of nighttime conversations What happens after Aziraphale invites Crowley to oysters: Wings and reading. Tentative and innocent in those early days.
the deft, sweet gesture of your hand
Author: deadgreeks Words: 12,000 Rating: Explicit Mood: Hurt/Comfort, introspection A few years after the failed apocalypse Crowley shows up badly injured at the bookshop. Aziraphale has to help heal Crowley and save them both, and still finds the time to knit his feelings.
Chemistry
Author: Twilightcitysky Words: 122,000 Chapters: 19/19 Rating: Explicit Mood: Y'ever want a side of learning something with your romcom? After realizing they might need their own corporations to heal themselves now that they're not working for heaven and hell, Aziraphale and Crowley turn on all their bodily functions. All of them. What could be a silly premise is played out very satisfyingly, the actual biology of hormones at play here is fascinating. (this is not really at all related but: has anyone else read Peeps by Scott Westerfeld? Because the format reminded me of this in that it did a similar thing of playing straight the concept of "what could cause vampires to be real" that drew on inspiration from real life parasites interspersed between the chapters. I dig it. Anyway!)
Reservations
Author: AnnetheCatDetective Words: 10,000 Chapters: 3/? (Technically unfinished, but leaves off in a satisfying spot) Rating: Not Rated Mood: Meta (Character study as story) “There's some competition for Aziraphale and Crowley's usual table at the Ritz…” A couple of miracles bend reality and, well… you ever been like, “The boys need therapy, but who could possibly give it to them?” I love crossovers where the TV boys meet other versions of themselves, this one is my favorite.
i can't say the words, so i wrote you into my verse
Author: mygalfriday (BrinneyFriday) Words: 5,000 Rating: Teen Mood: Snapshots through history "Crowley has tattoos and every few centuries, Aziraphale discovers a new one." Simple and paints a lovely picture.
By Definition
Author: idiopathicsmile Words: 3,000 Rating: Explicit Mood: Smutty but fond A night together after the Ritz fic where Aziraphale is asexual and Crowley isn’t and how that works for them. The dialogue here is positively delightful.
Bark Dust
Author: rfsmiley Words: 8,000 Rating: Mature (mostly for injuries) Mood: Whump, Hurt/Comfort, Historical Crowley is very badly injured in a battle, and Aziraphale has to figure out how to save his life.
Tell Me A Story
Author: brilliant_or_insane Words: 5,000 Rating: Teen Mood: Soft and warm Aziraphale likes telling stories and Crowley likes to listen. But when the demon is dissatisfied by sad endings and can't relate to the happy ones, Aziraphale decides to move them forward by telling a new story. (Of course, Crowley isn't entirely satisfied with the angel's perspective on that one either.)

FOH/BOH pt 1/2 (M, cold)
I'm splitting this in two because it's going to be 2 fairly distinct parts. In this one, Elijah is sick - but I'll be honest, a lot of it is just Mark being introspective. I wanted to write out a little of his story, since my last story had a good amount of Matt's inner thoughts. Idk what else to say about this one, lol other than Elijah catches something from the servers and is his usual pissed off self about it. Next part will hopefully be out soon-ish. Hope you all like it :)
CW: male, cold, fever, light mess, contagion, coughing. 2.7k words.
FOH/BOH
As far as Matt was concerned, there were two types of people in this world: front of house, and back of house.
Matt didn’t believe in astrology; he thought the enneagram was stupid, hated personality tests, and nearly scoffed in Elijah’s face when he told the management team at Elliot’s they’d be analyzing management styles using one of those what-color-is-your-parachute tests during the slow season this year. He did, however, believe firmly, almost spiritually, in the FOH/BOH divide.
The differences, Matt knew, could be subtle or obvious, but they were always distinct.
“Elijahhh!” Greyson called from the kitchen at the top of his lungs. “We can all hear you from in here!”
The cooks whooped with laughter from their prep stations behind the line, and Matt bit his cheek to keep from joining them. Greyson turned towards him, a smirk painted on his face, and secured his hair at the top of his head with a sharpie while they waited for Elijah’s inevitable trudge into the kitchen.
When Elijah pushed through the kitchen doors, the cooks forced themselves into submission and strapped in for the dressing-down they knew was coming their chef’s way. Elijah walked straight to the prep table in the middle of the kitchen and made livid eye contact with Greyson, obviously ready to go to blows. Matt, entirely too close for comfort, took a tentative step towards the line to keep out of the path of destruction.
“Do you thingk,” Elijah said, his voice low and cracking, “that you could fucking cool it with the theatrics, just this once? Just for today? For mbe – hh – hhITZCH-ue! HTSHH-uh! HRRTSHH-ue! Hh-!”
Elijah was stuck in a sort of pre-sneeze purgatory for longer than Greyson had the patience for, apparently. “By all means,” Greyson said, leaning on the prep table with his head in one hand, “don’t stop on my behalf.”
The GM colored and lowered his arm from his face, casting daggers at the chef. “Do you really thingk it’s appropriate for us to fuckigg squabble around your staff?” Elijah asked, quiet enough that only Greyson and Matt could hear it. Greyson smiled, stood to his full height, and placed a hand on Elijah’s shoulder.
“I do,” he said at full volume. “They’re not our real kids, it’s okay if they see mommy and daddy duke it out.”
The cooks roared once again, and Elijah flushed, clearly annoyed. “Fine,” he said, clearing his throat. “You’re on one today. Whatever. I have to go findish helping the servers set up for the night. Leave mbe out of your stupid little mood.”
“I’m on one because you have the server’s fuckin’ flu and you should be at home, not continuing the spread,” Greyson said to Elijah’s back as his boss started out the kitchen doors. “Mark is coming in in twenty minutes and you are leaving.”
Elijah didn’t turn back around, just flashed the kitchen the finger as he walked out into the dining room. Greyson turned towards his sous and rolled his eyes.
“Passive aggressive fuck,” Greyson said, picking his knife up and turning towards the line cooks behind him. “Don’t worry, guys, we still love you all, mommy and daddy just get frustrated with one another sometimes.”
Another round of laughter from the cooks. Matt shook his head, smiling until they all heard Elijah once again from the dining room – “HRRESHHH-ue!”
Greyson smiled devilishly at Matt, then his cooks, and held up his hand. “One, two,” he mouthed to the cooks, holding up the corresponding fingers. When he got to three, he pointed to the swinging doors that lead to the dining room. The whole kitchen, in tandem, called towards them.
“Bless you, Elijah.”
Within seconds, Elijah’s strained voice answered. “Oh, fuck off all of you.”
This time, the line cooks nearly collapsed with laughter. Greyson turned towards Matt, grinning ear to ear. “Think he heard us?” he asked. Matt couldn’t help but join in on the laughter this time.
***
At first, Mark hadn’t been sure that he bought Matt’s whole front of house person/back of house person bullshit.
“People have layers, babe,” Mark had said, coursing his fingers through Matt’s hair while they ignored the movie that was playing on TV. “No one is just… some caricature of ‘kitchen’ or ‘dining room’. This isn’t The Bear.”
“But that’s the thing, baby, it kind of is The Bear,” Matt said, sitting up straight and looking his boyfriend in the eye. “Did you not relate to The Bear? I don’t think this is going to work if you didn’t relate to The Bear, I’m not gonna lie to you.”
“I mean, yeah, I did but… I don’t know. I want to be more than just my job, y’know?” Mark pulled Matt back to laying on his lap – Matt allowed himself to be pulled.
“This isn’t about your job, it’s about your personality,” Matt explained. “Not everyone has worked in a restaurant, but that doesn’t mean they’re not a front or back of house person.”
“I’m so lost, honey. I thought this was about restaurants.”
“No, it’s about people.”
“Maybe you should look into getting your GED,” Mark said, elbowing Matt playfully. “So you can go to college for, like, sociology or something.”
“Oh fuck you,” Matt said, not unkindly. “You have to know what I mean. C’mon. You’re telling me you’ve never met someone and gone, ‘oh, that person’s totally a kitchen person’.”
“I can genuinely say I have not,” Mark said, placing a kiss on the top of Matt’s head. “Your mind is an enigma.”
They’d dropped it at that point, but Mark hadn’t stopped thinking about it all week. He’d thought about it when he’d talked to his dad on the phone and he asked Mark whether he’d gotten his oil changed lately, but didn’t say ‘I love you’ when they hung up – man, he’s such a back of house guy. He’d thought about it when he’d bought a coffee and the barista asked him about the entirety of his college career in England while a line formed out the door behind him – never met such a front of house person in my life. He’d especially thought about it at work, where the servers and bussers loudly complained all week about being sick.
“Maaaark,” Riley, their lead server, whined to him one day. “I feel like fuckin shiiiit.”
“Well, the shift is 85% over,” Mark replied as he replaced the silverware on an empty table. “Do you think you can make it another hour?”
Riley had pouted, sniffled, and shrugged. “I guess,” she said, opening her server book. “But, like, I’ve already made my money tonight, can’t you just cut me early?”
Typical front of house, Mark had thought to himself. So maybe Matt had been right; maybe there were just two types of people in this world. The problem was, despite having been ‘front of house’ most of his adult life, he didn’t know if he really… belonged there.
Mark had, essentially, fallen into working in restaurants; he’d been an English major in college – which basically guaranteed your life to veer towards serving tables or shaking cocktails – and when he’d graduated, he hadn’t felt the pull towards teaching or grad school or any of the typical ‘English major’ careers his friends had chosen. Instead, he kept his serving job; eventually, the resort that he worked at offered him a banquet captain position, which he did until he realized catering made him want to stab both eyes out with a cocktail fork. When he moved to New York on a whim, Mark had been sure he’d apply to grad school, or look for a copy-writing position, or apply to be a publisher’s assistant – but he didn’t. Instead, he found himself dialing the number on a flyer in the window of a soon-to-be-opened restaurant near the apartment he shared with four other recent college grads.
“Future home of Elliot’s restaurant, this is Elijah speaking,” the voice on the other end of the number answered on the first ring.
“Hi,” Mark had said. “I was wondering if you were hiring any front of house positions?”
It turned out that Mark was the first person to call Elijah in search of a job. Despite his only being twenty-one at the time, and despite the fact that he had no managerial experience, Elijah hired him on the spot to be the front of house manager.
“You have a good vibe,” Elijah said when they met at a coffee shop for Mark’s interview. “That’s all I really care about.”
And then suddenly, somehow, seven years had passed. He’d never found a good enough reason to leave Elliot’s; he was paid well, Elijah let him take tips when he had to cover for servers or bartenders, and the work, while demanding, felt mostly fun. He’d never felt like a front of house person, he was just… a person who worked in the front of house. Sometimes, Mark thought, he didn’t know what kind of person he was at all. A person who things just happened around. A background person. A person that no one could say much about, other than he had a good vibe.
That is, until Matt.
“Hi honey,” Matt said as Mark pushed through the back doors into the kitchen. Mark smiled wide when he saw that Matt was alone in the back kitchen; he pulled his boyfriend in for a long kiss, which Matt returned greedily.
“Hi,” Mark said, finally pulling away. “How have things been here this morning?”
Before Matt could answer, they heard a huge, “HRRTSHH-ue!” from the front kitchen. Mark whipped his head towards the sound, then back to Matt.
“Please tell me that isn’t what I think it is,” Mark said. Matt pressed his lips together, unwilling to be the bearer of bad news.
“Mbark, Elijah said, rounding the corner with a hand held over the bottom half of his face, “you’re here, great.” The GM yanked a paper towel from the holder on the wall next to Matt and used it to wipe his nose before gesturing Mark to follow him, “Let’s go over the ndight, mbeet me in the office.”
“Right behind you,” Mark murmured to Elijah’s back. Before he followed his boss, he threw Matt a pained look, which his boyfriend returned with a mouthed, I’m sorry.
When the servers were sick, they were annoying because they complained constantly. They called out at the slightest provocation, they glommed onto one another and spread their illnesses like wildfire, and they always ended up sending their shit into the kitchen when one of them inevitably slept with a cook after a long night of drinking. When Elijah was sick, though, it was annoying for a whole other set of reasons.
Mostly, if he was honest, it was the blatant denial that he found obnoxious. “So, tondight shouldn’t be too heinous,” Elijah said, rubbing his nose on the back of his hand as he sat at the shared desk. “It’s tomborrow we really have to – tuh… hhITZSHH-ue! HTSHH-ue!” Elijah folded in on himself to sneeze away from Mark, blearily rubbed his eyes behind his glasses, and attempted to continue. “To worry about,” he finished, coughing into the back of his hand.
“Uh huh,” Mark said, taking in the state of his boss. Elijah had been quiet yesterday, and quick to annoyance, but despite knowing the man for almost a decade, Mark still wasn’t able to decipher between ‘quiet, easily annoyed’ Elijah and ‘getting sick’ Elijah. The two were indecipherable from one another.
“Don’t sit too close, Mark,” Greyson’s voice called from the prep station near the line. Both Mark and Elijah looked over at the chef, who was butchering New York’s and smirking to himself. “He’s sick as a dog.”
“Greyson,” Elijah called, his voice cracking on the word. “Could you combe in here for a minute, please?”
Greyson rolled his eyes, but put down his knife and walked toward the office all the same. “Yes, dear?” he asked, toweling off his hands and leaning on the office’s door frame. “How can I help you? Some tea, maybe, or perhaps a drive home?”
Elijah stood, pulled Greyson into the office, and shut the door. “Stop fuckigg patronizing mbe in front of the staff,” he growled, poking a finger into the chef’s chest. Greyson huffed out a little laugh and slapped a hand on Elijah’s forehead.
“I’ll stop,” he said, “when you no longer have a hundred-and-two fever.”
There they stood, the two ultimate testaments to Matt’s theory, duking it out in front of a clearly-forgotten Mark. Greyson, the gregarious, heart on his sleeve, back-of-house guy who would just as soon scream at you as he would give you the shirt off his back, and Elijah, the subdued stay-together-for-the-kids front of house man, who knew everything about everyone and cared so hard he couldn’t see anyone else caring about him in return. Yin and yang. Front and back. Which are you, Mark? he thought to himself as the standoff continued.
“Mark,” Greyson said, breaking the spell, “can you handle tonight by yourself out front?”
Mark blinked, first at his boss, then at Greyson, and finally found his voice. “Y-yeah, I mean, of course I can,” he said.
“It’s a busy ndight, Grey, I don’t waahhh – ETSCHH-zue! HhhNGTSHH-uhh!” Elijah wrenched to the side to keep from sneezing in Greyson’s face – much to the detriment of Mark.
“Yikes,” Greyson muttered, watching Mark cringe against the spray Elijah directed, unknowingly, into his face. His boss flushed bright red when he realized what he’d done.
“Fuckigg shit,” Elijah murmured, yanking a tissue out of the box and handing it, lamely, to Mark. “Fugck, Mbark I’mb so sorry I didn’t meee – ETSCHH-zue!” This time, Elijah tented both hands over his face to keep from having a repeat of that incident. Greyson took his hand back then, shrunk away from the GM.
“Maybe, uh, give us a signal next time?” Greyson said, an attempt to break the tension. Mark would’ve laughed if he didn’t feel so thoroughly...infected.
“Would’ve if I could’ve,” Elijah grumbled, pulling another tissue out and blowing his nose. “Mbark, I’m so -”
“It’s fine, boss,” Mark said, standing. “But, um, I do think Chef is right – maybe you should go home, sleep it off?”
Elijah swallowed, pain evident on his face, and finally gave up the charade. “Alright,” he said, curt. “Finde. I’ll go.” He turned back towards Mark. “You’re sure you’ve got this?”
“Of course, boss,” Mark said. Elijah nodded.
“Okay,” he said. “Take sombe Emergen-C or something, okay?”
“Okay, boss,” Mark said. Elijah coughed painfully into the sleeve of his shirt, grabbed his backpack, and signed out of the computer.
“I’ll drive you home,” Greyson offered, but Elijah shook his head.
“Thanks, mother, but I think I can handle a five-mbinute drive with a cold,” he said, rolling his eyes. “Just mbake sure your guys are ready for tomorrow ndight – it’s going to be a doozy.”
“And that’s how we know it’s really time for you to leave, when you start using words like ‘doozy’,” Greyson said, pushing Elijah out the door. “Go. You’ve infected enough people today.”
Finally, Elijah did as he was told and left. Mark and Greyson stood in the office avoiding eye contact with each other for what felt like a long moment.
“You wanna run to the store and get some Emergen-C?” Greyson asked, breaking the awkward silence. Mark laughed a little.
“Yeah,” he said, pulling a hand down his face, “I guess I probably should.”
On his way out the back door, Matt caught the back of Mark’s shirt. “The fuck is going on up there?” he asked, confusion written all over his face. “Where are you going? Did Elijah go home?”
Mark turned and embraced Matt, then pulled back to offer a small smile. “Elijah went home,” he said. “And I’ll be right back.”
“Where are you going?” Matt asked again. Mark just sighed and gave his boyfriend a defeated look.
“I’m going to try and ward off the stupid fucking front of house flu.”

Wildflower by sailingthenightsea
Tumblr media
I think this is the first time by experiments have gotten the better of me in very big ways.
But I digress.
This bind - Wildflower by sailingthenightsea - is one that I had wanted to do for a long while. Back during the pandemic days, this fic helped me to uncover the diversity that is the Sleepy Bois Inc. fandom. So when it was finally time for me to begin work, I wanted to honor the fic's themes by going on a different bookbinding path.
Tumblr media
First off, I had long wanted to make a cover window, and I feel this fic is a good opportunity to try this technique - a green cover to convey the green woods, and red to represent Tommy and the fae. I printed a marbled paper design, sealed it with varnish, cut-out two pieces of board, and pasted the paper on one board surface before layering it with the cut window-board.
That process was surprisingly easy. What wasn't was how I realize I had to paste and 'tuck-in' the green cover so that it doesn't cover the marbled design underneath. it took a lot of time, patience, and energy to finesse it all into a result that looks satisfactory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Secondly, I wanted to see if I make the beginning (and final) pages of the textblock as endpapers into themselves. Conceptually, it would save time, materials, and energy. Unfortunately, I also tried another experiment of using misprinted pages to line the spine of the book. The result: see-through words and comments through the thin paper! Whoops!
I also wanted to use the concept of "dividing" sections of the book via endpapers such as my Solidaritek bind. But in this book, the endpapers would be printed onto the pages and divide sections of the book. The results look nice and is visually striking, but I hazard to be careful with this method and use it sparingly, as this can use up a lot more printer ink than one might expect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made some ground rules for typesetting: every major event in the story is punctuated by a number, along with a flourishing drop cap in Harrington font in dark red as the opening alphabet. And as is my style, I also incorporated a comments section where selected comments that clarify some story parts or explore the deeper themes of the fic are archived.
But my favorite part is the final paragraphs. Shout-out to @therealwaffleking for making a gorgeous rendition of the final parts of the fic, and one that I had to include! It was a simple matter of putting one (or two) paragraph per art, and the result feels like a storybook!
Initially, I wasn't happy with the result of this - there are places where the green cover isn't 'tucked-in' enough, I used too much ink to print those endpaper-pages, my use of misprints as a spine connector backfired on me, the black spine piece wasn't cut straight and thus had dinks, and there's even a tear on the top of the front spine!
But after a day of rest and introspection, I found myself warming to the bind, warts and all. Sure, it's far from perfect, but it's a bind that has character and quirkyness. It has more history in it's production than a normal ficbind, and I have learned a couple of new things about knowing what not to do in the future!. It's certainly a head-turner!
My heartfelt thanks to @sailingthenightsea for this fic, along with @100-reasons-sbi and @therealwaffleking for contributing their art! Thank you all so much!

OHSHC Back to School Shopping
We’re ignoring that Honey and Mori would’ve graduated. Another school year at Ouran Academy is about to begin! What are each of the Host Club members looking forward to buying?
Honey - A new lunchbox. His lunch boxes are fancy af. They are cute, they are kept cool, and they have incredible storage for all of his cakes and snacks. This year he tracked down a limited edition bunny lunch box, and he couldn’t stop talking about it and showing it off to the ladies.
Hikaru - Locker decorations. Hikaru’s locker is decked OUT! He has a mini disco ball, every type of magnet conceivable, a mini battery operated vacuum (that he does not use), a mirror, and even more locker gadgets my commoner mind cannot think of. Even Haruhi is impressed by his locker.
Tamaki - Back to school new clothes. He remembers going shopping for clothes with his mom when he was little, and he’s been chasing that high at the start of the school year ever since. Tamaki’s outfit choices are typically questionable at best, but that doesn’t stop him from going into every single store searching for clothes, love, and acceptance. He will walk out with one of those things.
Haruhi - New pens. Haruhi is resourceful and usually either repurposes things from previous years, but she’s weak when all of the pens are on display and on sale. She’s still looking for a replacement pen that’s as good as the one that the twins STOLE and then sold on the Host Club website.
Mori - Textbooks. While not the biggest reader in the world, Mori does enjoy the quiet process of getting his book list, ordering all of the textbooks, and then skimming through the pages to see what the next year will hold, as far as school is concerned. It’s an introspective process, and he’ll tell his pets what he’s looking forward to. Whoops, it might just be university students that buy textbooks… oh well.
Kaoru - New shoes. While he and Hikaru do end up matching a lot, it’s because Kaoru is the one to pick out what shoes they wear. He is a giant shoe enthusiast, something he probably got from his mother instead of her attention, and he will absolutely stand in overnight lines for the latest shoe fashion. Well… he’ll send somebody to do the actual standing in line, but he’ll send them snacks. Maybe.
Kyoya - Notebooks. He is VERY particular about his notebooks, the color of the paper, grid vs dot vs lined, the subject DOES influence that, the quality of the paper, the cover, wire spirals vs plastic vs staples, he’s VERY particular. Kyoya does use his laptop a lot, but for notes on the go? That’s all accounted for in his notebooks, so he has to have the most top quality of notebooks. He is also still on the look out for a Death Note but that’s a different conversation.
Bonus! Renge - Buying new anime folders. It doesn’t matter the time of the year, she can always validate buying them, but buying them at the beginning of the school year to pump herself up for her studies just feels extra right.

20 questions for writers
tagged by @pia-writes-things - thank you! :D
(under the cut to save your dash)
How many works do you have on AO3?
64 at the moment!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
145,151 in eleven years... same as with drawing I don't post 90% of what I do lol whoops
3. What fandoms do you write for?
currently TES has been getting the gears going the most, but ER is my perennial love - and once in a blue moon I am compelled to do something TLU! SM is still very dear to my heart but I've been pretty dry on fic inspiration/drive for it for a while now :(
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
these are ALL OLDER PIECES haha so don't look too closely: it still burns - fluffy OPM piece for Knight c: what else can I say! too cold for you here and now - fluffy little Makoami piece (are you sensing a pattern already...) featuring terrible puns, because I have always loved characters trying to make each other laugh you do it for her (that is to say you do it for him) - another one written for Knight; OPM/SM crossover. with TWO chapters! left, left, left right left - introspective Romano piece re: arm. I actually now disagree with some character choices I made in this one so seeing it still getting attention has me like no... this doesn't represent me... Across the Western Ocean I Must Wander - Makoami pirate AU. also not a oneshot! (shock!) I don't think it holds up as well as I'd like, but the premise still compels me and there's some cute moments :'D still VIVIDLY remember being up late on a class night listening to one song on repeat while working on The Kissing Scene™
5. Do you respond to comments?
almost always! it may take me a bit sometimes, but I do try to make sure I do
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
frankly idek - being completely honest, "angst" just as a word at this point turns me off so immediately and so hard that I can't engage with the concept that way. I prefer endings with some hope, but I like some emotional complexity too! all my baggage about fandom and "angst" is for. ANOTHER TIME
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
again I'm not totally sure how to answer this one! I guess Ocean? doesn't get much more stereotypically happily-ever-after than "and then they ran away together the end"
8. Do you get hate on fics?
no, thankfully! I've gotten the occasional comment here and there that make me go "??" but more just sort of confusing, not malicious as far as I can tell lol
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
sdlkghlsj sex-repulsed asexual here and not for the first time I say: I am reasonably confident nobody wants me doing that. it can happen but offscreen to spare me the inevitable mortification... fade-to-black is about as far as we go in the House Of Mouse sorry!!
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I have before! it's not my preferred stomping grounds but I like a good one. I don't know about "craziest" but wouldn't do us any harm I think is probably the funniest of the handful I've shared (again: written primarily for Knight! warning that it is from 2016 LOL)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not to my knowledge!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
also not to my knowledge!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
yes! baby Mouse ran a fic awards "show" (in the written medium obviously) with a friend back in like 2010 or 2011 on FFN... it was loads of fun!
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
just one?? if I have to choose then: Lizzie & the Bald Boys... my little driftwood raft that I've finally convinced a handful of other people aboard c':
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Makoami Princess and the Goblin AU :( still means a lot to me but SM just hasn't been where I've been drawn to write for a while!
16. What are your writing strengths?
dialogue + characterization is most often what I get compliments on (<3) - I'd like to think I have a fairly decent hand for little meaningful details too, but I think these more often than not end up just being for my own benefit because I like my symbolism subtle aha
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
LONGFORM... plugging together things into ordered chapters and maintaining momentum over longer spaces is my greatest struggle. I've had to come to terms with the fact that I'm much more a sprinter than a marathon runner, and it's been very freeing letting myself step outside of needing all the surrounding context to just do things as I come to them and then getting to string it all into chronology via series ordering
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
done well I find it really impressive! it's very hard to do well though ahaha.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
without the context of "fandom", the first story I ever wrote was about the Boxcar Children hanging out with me at age 6 (the entirety of chapter three was all of us singing the alphabet together and it was narratively crucial that this happen. for some reason.). with the context of knowing about fandom though, Scooby Doo at 11-12!
20. Favorite fic you've written?
of what's posted: Ocean has a lot of personal meaning because it was the first multichapter piece I was able to finish in several years, but on a technical level I've been really proud of some of the more layered pieces I've been practicing in the last year or so: Thermal Equilibrium and skipping stones I think are good examples of that :')
tagging: @knightnightwrite (I AM GOING TO GET YOU TO DO ONE OF THESE SOMEDAY <3 <3 <3), @wispstalk, @ehlnofay, @wonderofasunrise, and anyone else who wants to do it!! as always no obligation if you've been tagged and don't want to! except for Knight. beloved I am knocking on your door come PLAY WITH ME

Pink Floyd Songs I recommend that are not “Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2″, “Money”, “Wish You Were Here”, and so on
So I was inspired by @afemalesebastian ‘s post about the Kinks and decided to do the same with a band that I have spent extensive time with and feel confident saying that I know their catalogue fairly well. Anyways, go check out all the Kink’s bangers they mentioned.
This is my personal list and isn’t based on anything other than “I really love this song”. I tried to stay away from the big four concept albums of “Dark Side”, “Wish You Were Here”, “Animals”, “The Wall”... the only advice that can be given for those is: listen to the whole album. One last thing, all songs are best experienced through headphones.
The Entire “Hour With Pink Floyd” KQED radio set
Setlist: Atom Heart Mother Suite; Cymbaline; Grantchester Meadows; Green is the Colour; Careful With that Axe, Eugene; Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
I Attached a link to the Youtube playlist because I don’t think Spotify has these versions, and also it’s great fun to watch. This setlist includes a. lot of early 70s Pink Floyd concert staples. Early 70s live Floyd was unmatched, the studio versions do not compare. You never realise how beautiful a song Green is the Colour is until you listen to it live. I have so many words for this set nghhhh. Also, Grantchester Meadows is one of my favourite songs. It’s straight up pastoral poetry and is steeped in nostalgia. I like this version best, and I love when Roger and David share vocals
If - Atom Heart Mother
Here’s a theme for you: I’m a whore for Roger’s folksy songs, whoops. The three “solo” songs on the album are so worth it (If, Summer ‘68, Fat Old Sun), but I personally have to pick this one. It’s so fucking tragic and simplistically beautiful. Got some of that introspection and isolation, good tea. Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s poem by the same name. Also the slide electric guitar is a real treat... also, Roger’s voice is so soft ;-;
Point Me at the Sky - Single
I like it, okay. It’s like a little novelty song, okay, back when Pink Floyd was still trying to write singles. Also holds some themes on the passage of time and blah blah which is seen extensively in Pink Floyd’s catalogue
Biding My Time - Relics
Okay.. It’s kitschy, I know. It’s got that jazzy feel (curtesy of Rick and his trombone) and that blues feel. Once again with that wacky jam session in the middle that defines early Pink Floyd. Also go off Nick with the drums!
Pow R. Toc H. - Piper at the Gates of Dawn
I’m a whore for weird mouth noises, and this has an abundance of them. Once again with the quintessential Floyd jam session. I’d say mono is best here since stereo is a bit mind-fucky (y’know early stereo is a struggle.. although I wouldn’t say it was too horrible with Pink Floyd), anyways, if you’re in the mood for weird sensory stuff, then stereo is great... this song is just a sensory nightmare, so tread carefully.
“The Pink Jungle” from their “Man and the Journey” suite, 17. September 1969 Amsterdam show, is EXTRA demonic and chaotic. Warning tho, there’s some slurping noises at the end. Nick carrying the band fr
Pillow of Winds - Meddle
although to be honest, the entirety of Meddle is where it’s at. Considering I listen to this song every night I had to include it. A love song :D, and it’s really pretty and drowsy. Again with the pastoral poetry, a very ambient piece (that’s just Pink Floyd in general) and the ever present themes of anxiety
Here’s some definitions since I’ve been asked a couple of times:
eiderdown: a quilt filled with down (originally from the eider) or some other soft material.
eider: small, soft feathers from the breast of the female eider duck
Wot’s...Uh the Deal - Obscured by Clouds
Another fan favourite. It’s just so beautiful. The whole album is really pleasant listen and has so many hidden gems. Again with the passage of time, steeped in a deep sense of melancholia with a sprinkle of wistfulness. The steel guitar solo is also a real treat. I also like Burning Bridges, Stay, Childhood’s End, Free Four a great deal and,... I’m giving Free Four it’s own spot on this list.
Free Four - Obscured by Clouds
this is the cheery song about death an the passage of time. The Hand-clapping just gets me, y’know. And the EMS VCS 3 synth is so crunchy, It’s great. If you you’re one of those people tired of Roger “whining” about his dad, then here’s an alternate take on that. Me? I’ll take any number of songs about Roger’s dad and trauma though
Nobody Home - The Wall
Okay okay, I chose a Wall song, BUT I would call this one a Wall Deep Cut, and It’s one of the most beautiful songs in their catalogue. There’s just this overwhelming sadness to it. You’ve got your nods to Syd, you’ve got your empty comforts, isolation, a non-ending, just a beautiful string of words
What Shall We Do Now - The Wall
THIS song. Yep, the one most people prefer to Empty spaces and... It rocks SO HARD. Added a link to the audio on Youtube since it’s not on spotify. Roger has a version of it from his Wall tour, but I prefer the one from the original Pink Floyd shows. The drums are phenomenal, the aggressiveness (not often associated with Pink Floyd), the flow of the lyrics, the deep growl of the guitar and the vocals (particularly in “shall we drive a more powerful car”). The animation that accompanies it in the film is one of my favourites. Talk about coping in unhealthy ways
The Gunner’s Dream - The Final Cut
Yes yes yes it’s that infamous album...I get it.. love it or hate it, I personally adore it. If there’s one song on the album I think you should listen to, it’s this one right here... I’d also say it’s one of THE SADDEST songs in their catalogue. This bloody song has made me cry multiple times. Again with the dissolution of the post war dream and an anti-war anthem. Makes reference to the famous lines:
That there’s some corner of a foreign field That is for ever England
from Rupert Brooke’s poem, “The Soldier”.
I’ll say, Roger’s vocals really go with this one, they’re so raw and oozing of emotion. Also that sax solo??? mmm yum
Not Now John - The Final Cut
Another uncharacteristically aggressive song. But oh man, the field noises in this are SO GOOD it makes me cry (in a happy way this time). You have to have to have to listen to this with headphones. Whoops I included two Final Cut songs, but I love that album
Poles Apart - Division Bell
I’ll say, this is my favourite song on the album. Also David talking to Syd and Roger, so hey. I love his voice on this album, and the wistfulness in this song speaks to my heart. There’s also this chaotic instrumental ambiance bit in the middle that’s giving haunted merry-go-round lost childhood kind of vibes, and I love that.
Take it Back - Division Bell
Big fan. It’s like a tragic, wistful environmentalist love song. Note the nurse rhyme “Ring a Ring O’Roses at 3:02).
Embryo
specifically the 30. September 1971 BBC Radio session. But “Picnic” is also a classic version, and shorter. The jam session goes so hard!  And then you feel like you’re just chilling, floating in embryonic fluids. I can’t stress enough how much I love this song, I have been working on learning it on bass. This other version includes children laughing and such as well as the same feedback on Echoes (16. July 1970) ... wow, turns out I just like creepy haunted children field sounds.
Okay, this was a lot longer than I was expecting and it took ... way too long to complete. But that’s my list! ... I have concluded that I just like sad songs, whoops. Here’s a spotify playlist. Not all of the versions I mentioned here are available, so I put alternate picks.

what if i asked you to infodump about a character you’ve had on your mind recently
I am unfortunately REALLY bad at infodumping on command 😭. Most of my thoughts about characters on my mind are just rotating them around. Maybe putting them into situations. But I can say the fandom does Jake so fucking dirty. SO much of his layers I feel are lost on people....... [exploding gif].
People like to think either he's purely a pathetic little meow meow or a super manipulative asshole and it's just like. He was 16. He barely ever does any self introspection. He copes with escapism (and inherently dissociation tbh) and tries to make himself into being the person others want him to be + his own idealised self. He's conflict avoidant. But he cares so deeply. He's so lost in his own bullshit he struggles to even know truly what it is he wants. Not that he ever directly considers his own wants, anyway. He does what other people want until it makes him feel so bad that he wants to escape. DO YOU UNDERSTAND. He just cares so much. And he was 16. He doesn't know good coping mechanisms to deal with all of his problems. He is still self-oriented for sure, it's why he always gets lost in fantasy instead of dealing with his problems with other people. But ultimately, it stems from his care for others. He hates himself, he doesn't feel like he's good enough for them. He wants to be someone who doesn't need help from others, who is dependable, reliable.
I've also been thinking a lot recently abt the existence of Brain Ghost Dirk and what that means about Jake. What we can learn about Jake via BGD. I don't know how to put it into words but it's just. It's so. Ough.........
So. How I just said I can't infodump on command? Whoops. Guess I did anyway! DSGGHSDGSJGHKSG

The Absideon Collective's Braindump
Hi we're a system of 6 people who goes by the Absideon Collective, Seraph(im) et al.
We use both singular and plural pronouns to talk about ourselves so it may get confusing whoops. I'm bodily an adult, with the collective pronouns being They/It/He in order of preference, I have italian nationality and have lived here all my life (but moving abroad pretty soon) and I am inclusive of all good-faith identities. I'm pretty sure there's a name for that but I don't know it.
More under the cut
About the System
Some introspection has lead to the conclusion that the endogenic label fits us better, so we're using that. We are an endogenic system despite the fact that we do indeed have trauma. Yes that's a thing. And to be slightly more clear, it's mostly about the origins of one person in the system who's pretty much considered the first split and if they split because of trauma or just because. If we were to count everyone's origins and see if we have more endogenic or traumagenic members, we'd still be endogenic.
There are currently 6 people (I will update this if this number changes) with only about 3 people being active and 1 being very inactive. We have made a Classification System we use to talk about ourselves in therapy that we posted but won't link right now as we're working on a more inclusive version with better language, and we also divide our system into groups to better understand the function of everyone. Read more here.
Boundaries
Anyone can interact. I don't think DNIs work so we don't have one. If someone who believes I don't exist wants to interact with me I'd rather tell them about the massive cognitive dissonance that it would be talking to me and leave them alone. If you're here in bad faith I can't stop you but can 100% block you or ignore you which is enough for me!
Intros
Apparently names are fine with everyone so here goes
Khoi :: Hii I'm Khoi I use They/It pronouns and I'm a host of the system. I live coding and in theory also drawing, but I haven't drawn in a while and I've also lost the ability a bit so yeahh. Currently playing Octopath Traveller and making a bunch of coding projects that I will probably not finish! Right now I'm making a system website (and by that I mean another one. Check the current one out here!)
Callahan :: im callahan, im 18, i use he/them pronouns and i dont use tumblr much. I draw and like doing art projects from time to time, the most recent being designing some pngtubers. I can also code and im making my own website and stuff. Thats it
Var :: (waiting on him to front to write it)
Ash :: (waiting on them to front to write it)
And that's it have a nice day!

IT ALL PAID OFF.
Tumblr media
The tensions we talked of in BTS in 2020, On ERA. Between Taekook, Yoonmin, Namkook, Jikook....it all paid off when Namjoon said ON era was gonna be their final era as a group.
I made myself a target of ridicule, hate, lost friends, lost allies, was dehumanized, persecuted, had people making up all sorts of narratives about me rather than my opinions, had people sneak into people's DMs with a hate brush asking people not to give me credit for my opinions, to unfollow me, to hate me all for daring to point out to them 2019 to On era wasnt a good period for the boys.
How foolish do you feel now hearing Namjoon point to that same era now?? Yall ate me up and made me into an anti for saying Jungkook seemed done with the group and was heading in a direction Jimin wasn't headed in??
For daring to say he was tired of sacrificing his happiness and relationship for the OT7 agenda Jimin clung on to and was a good soldier for??
Yall looked for the slightest grin they shared to counter argue, grins posted by a company with an agenda, a company now clearly they seem to be at odds with.
Just how foolish are you all now clowns??
Kookiemonster and her dumb circus?
Heard she changed her name but still I name her. She's the most toxic simp pandering to antis with her faux logic.
I challenge her to a duel
Tumblr media
zoom that arrow straight into her chest
Complaining i present my opinion as fact when all my opinions have turned out to be facts.
I pray for an opportunity to meet all these people one day and whoop them till they be needing stitches.
The first hate comment I received was from a blonde Karen who reblogged my post to a bunch of bigoted clowns for addressing Jungkook's Jealousy- you make him sound so toxic, what you are describing is a toxic relationship, you make him sound so childish
Tumblr media
I don't make him sound childish he is childish sometimes and simplistic in thoughts.
Glad that all those who felt the tensions in BTS in these past few years and month can stop attributing JMs mood to problems with Jungkook too.
I've said and maintain my position on this- not everything JM does is about his relationship. This is clearly one such moment. His look and mood in that vlive says it all. He would come to the US and return to Korea not so much as enthusiastic, barely post on sns, I mean we all felt he was going through something.
I also told you guys, I felt Jungkook seems happy lately because he seems to have gotten what he wanted in the group- especially during the JM shy around Kook era.
Not sure if I said that here or on my Ko-fi but yea. He'd stop fighting and resisting and rebelling. Felt like the calm before the storm.
"
Why'd you spend your time leading the chorus When the war was just waiting before us? As if you didn't know You ignored all the darkest of warnings Found our end in the silence of morning It fell beneath the cold
I'll take the desert, you take the coast But to each his own I'll take the desert""
I asked which therapists they've been seeing to work through their relationship struggles- turns out they really have been seeing and working with a therapist if not anything to help them transition and be become independent of eachother as they set into solo careers.
The most attached to the group would suffer the most. I'm glad we can all agree it's not Jungkook. Too many PJMs gave me grieve for pointing out JMs OT7 agenda conflicted with Jungkook's desire for independence of the group. I was told I was crazy and slurred at because to others Jungkook is the one super attached to the group.
When I said he was asserting himself off the group yall throw virtual stones at me.
Its all good.
Got heat for saying I was expecting and anticipating a shift in dreams and hopes of the boys post covid because Covid will force them to do a lot of introspection into their lives and careers and question if the trajectory they are on.
Then people came at me with the whole they have another contract with hybe nothing's changed you are dramatic and a charlatan- a charlatan really??
it's exhausting and at a point I was so exhausted. The only thing that kept me going was my love for Jikook. Because I love them I loved talking about them.
Didn't post everything i wrote. Didn't post every video analysis I made, didn't share everything but still I showed up for them.
It all paid off.
Chapter one is over. On to chapter Two.
But can't live in a world where there's no BTS.

What do you think of the idea of Dick getting the case of the twisties like gymnasts? 👀
Also I love your fics! I reread them all the time, especially the mer au <3
Confession time!
I dropped TT's NW when the whole pirate arc started so if this is happening in canon, I'm clueless about it. Whoops. And unfortunately I found the execution of Taylor's ideas to not have any teeth or stakes to them so...
But! Twisties as a concept on its own? I love it. I think it could be a really great challenge for a character who is such a perfectionist with the most unrealistic expectations for himself. Dick lives and breathes protecting the people and city he loves and if the ability to do that was taken away by his own body? A skill given to him by his parents and one of his strongest connections to them? It could lead to some great angst and introspection. But only for a short period of time (like Ric/amnesia should've been) because eventually it'll drag and do more harm than good to the character's growth. Honestly, I might write it now!
And thank you! I always feel so honored when people reread my fics <3

writing patterns tag game
tagged by @reflectionsofacreator
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 posted fics and see if there’s a pattern.
I've not moved some things to Ao3 (like 2023 FFXIV Write yet, whoops), and ended up playing catch-up on a prompt challenge, also been doing more original writing than fanfic lately, but there's been a few things so let's see…
1) Being one of the saviors of the star had its perks in certain places. No one questioned Thancred’s presence in Thaumazein, nor his use of the Aitiascope’s elevator to reach the research platforms built in the shallows of the Aetherial Sea. -Fathers, Sons, and Brothers (for the Thancred Anthology)
2) It was so gradual, so natural, that Aeryn didn’t even realize it was happening at first. -Home Together (for the Year of the OTP prompts 2023)
3) The differences were so subtle, it was difficult to explain. Six years all told had passed, which was not many, but just enough. -Missing Scars (for the Year of the OTP prompts 2023)
4) [A letter in nearly type-perfect cursive font, the envelope also containing a pressed white flower yet retaining its sweet scent, delivered surreptitiously via postmoogle to the top of a certain gunbreaker’s pack…] -Need (for the Year of the OTP prompts 2023)
5) “This seems familiar,” Aeryn said as they shoved the old door closed against the howling winds. -Snowstorm (for the Year of the OTP prompts 2023)
6) “You know, I’ve been thinking,” Aeryn said slowly in the Thavnairian tongue as they watched the Garleans discuss the trade agreement and the upcoming use of the Tower. -Amity (for FFXIV Write 2023)
7) Those weren’t her eyes that she opened. -Contravention (for FFXIV Write 2023)
8) “The delegation from Werlyt is here,” the Resistance soldier said, voice rough. The temperature in the room seemed to cool as the Alliance representatives tried not to tense but did regardless. -Blunt (for FFXIV Write 2023)
9) “Ow. Ow. Ow.” -Sole (for FFXIV Write 2023)
10) And then She was there, her familiar bright warmth engulfing him in an embrace, though he had no true form. -Last (for FFXIV Write 2023; what I wrote, not counting the game quote that starts it)
--
I start with dialogue a chunk of the time. Also introspective observations/thoughts of characters who are the PoV or at least focus of the story. "Need" seems to break that mold, but only cuz that's set up for an entire letter of Aeryn's introspective yearning. I should work on more descriptive passages, especially for openers, maybe. Eh, we'll see.

Bandcamp """Friday""" recommendations...2! - full albums
it's not BCF yet but that's no excuse to not support some great artists! (and I had this stuck in my drafts for too long, whoops). some of these are also readily available on CD, they're marked with an asterisk. check em out new on the artists' sites, or used at a record store or Discogs.com.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Making a Door Less Open by Car Seat Headrest (2019, $10) Alternative/indie. The classic sound and lyricism of modern CSH with the electronic taste of 1 Trait Danger mixed in. Melancholy with a bold streak, a no-skip album. Favorite tracks - Martin, There Must Be More Than Blood
*Ants From Up There by Black Country, New Road (2022, $10+) Post-punk. When I first heard this album I couldn't believe it was released last year, it sounds as though it's been a cult classic for a decade. Emphatic and beautiful, with a really nice amount of saxophone. Favorite tracks - Chaos Space Marine, The Place Where He Inserted The Blade
Western Teleport by Emperor X (2011, $8) Pop/folk. The mundanity, hope, and complex chaos of humanity compressed into an audio format. Clean, lo-fi folk for the modern age (of the 2010s). First heard Allahu Akbar on a road trip through California and it's one of my favorite songs of all time. Favorite track - Allahu Akbar

*The Seer by Swans (2014, $16) Post-rock. Like bitter dark chocolate paired with a fine wine. A two hour saga of intense brutal sound that transforms from tense, obsessive repetition into quiet introspection and back again. Best listened to through headphones, with your eyes closed and your back on the floor. Favorite tracks - Lunacy, The Seer Returns
*A River Ain't Too Much to Love by Smog (2005, $9) Alternative rock. Quiet, acoustic rock with meandering lyrics and a calming tone. Apparently a lower-key approach from Smog in comparision to their other works, but still holds the same artistic integrity. Favorite tracks - I Feel Like The Mother Of The World
Nachthorn by Maxime Denuc (2022, €7) Ambient/organ. Hypnotic MIDI-controlled organ solos invoke the still-buzzing calm after returning from a party; relaxed with an undercurrent of techno. Favorite tracks - Edo, Ouverture
Also check out: LET THE EVIL OF HIS OWN LIPS COVER HIM by Lingua Ignota (experimental, $2), LAST WALTZ by World's End Girlfriend (alternative, free/PWYW), the 🌍 is ending and i ❤️ u by Jack Goldstein (indie/pop, PWYW)

❛  there are some people worth dying for ...  ❜
His impulse is mockery, but he snubs the feeling and yanks over a nearby stool, planting himself to show he’s not going to just walk away from the conversation now that it’s taken a decidedly heavier turn. Gale has the propensity for turning all of their ‘little chats’ into insufferable mind clenches. Why should this one be any different?
Astarion leans forward, elbows on his knees and fingers steepled in front of his face. He observes the other’s introspective profile for a muted beat, introspecting too, before cracking a small grin. “Am I included in that assessment, Gale~?” He snorts harshly to interrupt the possibility of receiving an actual answer.

Though… signs seem to point towards it being a ‘yes’. Which is disgusting. But probably a mutual thing if Astarion searches within himself deep enough, for long enough. Whoops, it seems he already has. Damn this wizard.
“Some people, I will concede. Perhaps.” This is almost too excruciating to continue on with, shit. “… but dying is just a bit too dramatic, isn’t it?” Says the guy who's already done it before. “And, erm.” So gruff and reluctant as to be almost unheard behind his fingers: “Maybe some of those worthwhile people might like to see you keeping alive, too…”
