…………………………………………………………………
The second Alex left the room, Jo let out a breath that came out as a sob as tears spilled over onto her cheeks. Before she could press the call button, Meredith and Link came in. Link rushed over and wrapped his arms around her as Meredith sat next to her and put her arms around her shoulders, as they both hugged her. Jo let herself cry, letting the tears and the emotions, the stress, the worry, and the fear spill out. She took a moment to fall apart again.
When she pulled back, Link wiped her eyes and hugged her shoulders. Jo took another deep breath as they both nodded. Even though she knew Alex was strong enough to be there for her. She knew he wasn't ready to have the conversation she was about to have with Meredith and Link. They waited for her, having sensed what she needed from them. One last tear slipped from her eyes before she wiped it away and then she nodded, finding her voice.
“I need your help to get everything sorted before the surgery. I need to write a will and get my affairs in order. I also need you both to help me sort out a plan to help Alex if anything happens,” Jo said as sure as she could, looking at them both.
“As much as I don't want to think about it, I promise you that I'm going to take care of Alex and the girls no matter what happens,” Link said with a somber nod that Meredith agreed with.
“Don't worry, Jo. Alex will be taken care of if anything happens to you, even if the worst happens,” Meredith said as she reached out and squeezed Jo’s hand.
“I know you will,” Jo said, with a small smile. “But, please don't let him run away. He’ll need our family, I want them to have that.”
“I'll make sure he stays here,” Meredith said with another reassuring squeeze of her shoulders.
“Good,” Jo said with her nod.
They pulled out some papers, Meredith knew what they needed and helped her format her will. It was easier than the last time she had written a will, before she had left Paul. She left everything to Alex and her daughters, but picked out a few pieces of sentimental things to give to Link, Meredith, Stephanie, and her friends.
She gave out her jewelry and things to give to the girls. She gave Luna the necklace she had worn on her wedding day. To Helena she gave the sapphire bracelet Alex gifted her on their first anniversary. She entrusted Alex with her wedding rings, asking that he would give her engagement ring to Helena and her wedding band to Luna so that they both might have a piece of the love she and Alex had as they grew up. She had bought Alex a new watch for his upcoming birthday and entrusted it to Meredith for the time being. He had so many things from her, and she knew he’d appreciate them.
Then Jo started writing letters to them. She wanted to write a letter to Alex, and then Luna, and Helena to read after her death. That's what she was writing when they came. Alex held both girls, one in each arm as they came in. Jo instantly shuffled the papers away and Alex pretended he didn't see them. Meredith got off the bed and quickly shuffled the papers away. She also hid the letters in Jo's bedside drawer.
“Mama,” both of the girls shouted as they smiled and wiggled out of Alex’s arms. The girls lit up as they saw her, and Jo managed her first real smile she had since this all happened.
“Hello, my girls,” Jo said as she reached out for them.
Jo was relieved that they didn’t seem scared but all the monitors and the oxygen that she had. Although Luna still looked over at all the equipment with wide eyes. They were used to her mother in a hospital setting, this was different. Alex looked at the drawer for a moment, his fingers twitching as if he wanted to open it, before he sat down on the bed next to her and managed to smile for their girls. He let the girls go and they crawled up to her as Jo wrapped her arms around them, giving her daughters a hug and a kiss on their cheeks before they settled in her arms, with one on each side.
“How was daycare? I saw you guys did some painting today and that you had some goldfish for a snack. That must have been a fun treat.”
“Yeah, they were telling me all about the fishies, weren’t you girls?” Alex said as he relaxed too and smiled at them.
Luna told her all about it, using a few words, but mostly signing and Helena babbled on about the fishies. Jo let her worries dissipate as she focused on her daughters. They were the best distraction after a long day and it was easy to let it all slip away as she enjoyed them. Link and Meredith slipped out, letting the two of them enjoy their family time and taking the documents with them.
They spent the rest of the evening together, having dinner and playing with the girls who soon fell asleep on the bed next to her. Addison and Maggie frequently checked on her and she had a few more tests, blood work and ultrasounds to ensure that the baby was doing well. Along with constant fetial and heart monitoring.
Then they discussed scheduling the surgery. Maggie said she could do it the next day, and Addison. However, Jo realized that she wanted more time to get things settled, time to spend time with her family and the baby. Therefore they agreed to schedule it for three days from now, on that upcoming Thursday. This gave her enough time to finish her letters and her will.
Link had agreed to go to their house and get them the things they needed to stay the night. He returned with two duffel bags for them and one for the girls along with their pack and play for them to sleep. The girls were used to sharing a bed and did so occasionally as they crawled into each other’s beds. He had mostly packed for her thought, and had brought her pillow and her favorite blanket along with her favorite robe. It was the fluffy white one she had stolen from the hotel at Bailey's wedding all those years ago. It was faded, but still soft and one of her favorite comfort items.
That night, the nurses brought them dinner and made sure she had extra pillows and a warm, softer blanket. Jo was always so thankful for the nurses and all their support. If anyone knew how to go above and beyond to take care of them, it was the nurses at Grey-Sloan Hospital and Jo appreciated them so much. When Helena was born, they had done something similar. They made sure she was comfortable, gave her extra treats, and ensured that she and Alex got in a few naps, while they spoiled her baby. They had always done it for Luna, spoiling her in the NICU and she knew they'd do it for her when she had this baby. If she lived to have this baby.
To her surprise, Alex fell asleep before her. He relaxed in the lounge chair next to her and pulled up the footrest as he laid back. Helena crawled up onto his chest and Alex put a blanket over both of them. They soon fell asleep together and even Luna was soon snoring at her side, curled into her, but Jo couldn't sleep. Even after the nurses came in and turned off the TV and turned down the lights. They insisted she get some rest and that they wouldn’t check on her for a few hours, but Jo was restless.
Instead, she pulled out her pen and paper and began to write more letters. She wrote well into the night, but it never seemed to be enough. There always seemed to be something more to say. She wanted the girls to have a letter for each special occasion. She started from birthday to the first days of school, middle school, high school, graduation, growing up falling in love, starting out on their careers, their lives, and the happy moments that she imagined would come. Their wedding days and engagements, if they chose to have one. She wasn't sure, so she also wrote it to them for when they decided to commit to their partner.
Then she wrote her letters to Alex, for the first day afterward, the first wedding anniversary, the first year, and so on. She wrote down everything she wanted him to know and wanted to say to him. Words of love and reassurance, words of guidance and hope that he would find happiness for the sake of their daughters. Although she was selfish enough to hope he wouldn’t be with someone else. By the time she was getting the last few of her letters, the sun had risen and she watched the sunrise through her window.
“You should get some rest,” Carina insisted as she put her stethoscope back around her neck. Carina had already gone home, slept and came back.
Despite her yawn, Jo looked down at her writing. “I want to write all this down for Alex and the girls in case I die on the table.”
“You shouldn't think like that,” Carina scolded her with a frown. “This is a good surgery, an easy surgery, and chances are you will make a full recovery.”
“I know, but they don't call it Grey-Slone death for nothing. We both know what could happen,” Jo said as she looked up at Carina who had a softer, somber face.
“Just try and at least get a few hours of sleep,” Carina said as she put her hand over Jo's on her pen, causing her to falter in her writing.
Jo paused and realized how tired she was. She closed her eyes for a second and Carina easley took the pen and papers from her hands without a fight. Carina tucked the blanket over her, and Jo let her take Luna too and place her in the pack and play next to the window. Still, she did try to rest, but her mind wouldn’t let her sleep. Instead, she watched the sun rise higher in the sky. She got up and took Luna back, snuggling with her and eventually Helena, as she briefly woke up and crawled over into Jo's arms. She snuggled them in her arms and appreciated the moment she had holding her girls.
Jo also looked over at Alex as he slept, memorizing his features and taking a few pictures of him to capture the moment. She hoped that he would have these pictures forever. Eventually, he woke up with a yawn. Alex looked around for a second before he stood up and stretched, his back creaking as he did. He stretched even more to get out the ache in his joints as he rubbed his back.
“I’m probably going to have to pull one of the couches in here if I'm going to be spending the night again,” Alex said as he looked back at the recliner with a sigh.
“You shouldn't have to. You should go home and sleep in our own bed with the girls. You'll need some good rest for the days ahead,” Jo said, giving him a slight frown, although she knew he wouldn't leave her.
“I don’t mind it so much, and it’ll be okay for a few days,” Alex nodded, smiling back at her. He was trying to ease her mind and she let him. Alex sat on the bed and put a hand on Helena’s back. “Do you want me to take them from you?”
Jo shook her head and kissed Luna and Helena’s forehead. She couldn’t bear to part with her girls and he didn't try to take them from her. Instead, he sat on the bed next to her. He picked up Luna as he wiggled into the spot next to her, sitting next to Jo as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and let Luna sleep on his chest. Jo turned into him with a sigh as Alex ran his fingers through her hair and rubbed her forehead in gentle circles. She was asleep before she even realized what he was doing.
…………………………………………………………………
Alex soothed Jo as she slept, running his fingers through her hair long after she had fallen asleep. He held her, savoring as many little moments as he could with her and replaying them in his mind. He was so caught up in the memories that he almost didn't notice Meredith had come in until she put a hand on his shoulder.
“Hey,” Meredith whispered, looking at him with eyes full of concern. “How are you holding up?”
Alex just shook his head and Meredith nodded sadly, silently understanding him.
“What time is it in Zurich?” Alex asked Meredith, looking up at her with determined eyes as Meredith pulled out her phone.
“It’s a little after 2:00 pm, so we could probably catch her,” Meredith said as she looked back at him. “But let’s not wake Jo and the girls.”
Alex agarred and slipped away from Jo carefully and paused as his arms left her. He waited, fearing she would wake up feeling that he was gone, but she slept on. Jo sighed but slept on and he kissed her forehead. He made sure that Luna and Helena were still around her with the blankets tucked around them all. They both left the room and walked down the hall to the bench by the window. The rain pelted against the window in a steady beat. They sat down and Alex pulled out his phone, calling Cristina himself.
It rang a few times but Cristina was quick to pick it up. “Hey evil spawn what are you doing calling me so early? You never call me.”
“Cristina it's Jo,” Alex let out a breath.
They could both feel Christina's mood instantly shift. “Tell me everything.”
And Alex did. He told her all about Jo's symptoms, diagnosis, and what Maggie saw on the scans. Along with the treatment plan Maggie and Addison had and the surgery that had planned.
“Well, I agree it's a good plan,” Christina said, sounding sure. “I don't think they'll have any trouble with it and hopefully Jo's heart will get stronger after valve replacement, but if it fails I can fly her out and I can get her in the trial for my 3D printed hearts. We're on the second phase of the trial and everything's going really well. The hearts last even longer than a donor heart.”
“Well, I was hoping you would come out and do the valve replacement,” Alex said, holding his breath as he waited for her responses.
“Alex, it's a simple surgery, Maggie's got more then enough skills to handle it even if there are complications,” Cristina tried to reassure him.
“It's not about her skills,” Alex had interjected, the stress in his voice taking over. “You're the best Cristina and it's Jo. You're the only person I want working on her heart.”
“Okay,” Cristina said softly, agreeing with him. “I'll hop on a flight and be there by tomorrow. But you better name your kid after me for this.”
She joked with him and Alex managed a smile. “We'll see about that.”
“Besides you're supposed to name it after me,” Meredith interjected as she lightly elbowed him.
“Was that Meredith? what did she say?” Cristina asked as Alex took her on speaker and Meredith repeated herself.
“I said they have to name the baby after me as I'm the baby's godmother.”
“No way, if I do this surgery you have to name the baby after me,” Cristina argued back as Meredith got riled up and opened her mouth to say something.
Okay, okay, let's just wait and see, besides Jo wants to name them something unique,” Alex said, ending this argument before it could snowball.
“Alright, we’ll see what happens,” Meredith said with a little smile that Cristina couldn't see.
“Fine, but I don’t like it,” Cristina said with her usual snippy tone.
“Thank you for doing this Cristina,” Alex said, feeling a little bit more relieved now that she was doing Jo's surgery.
“Of course Alex,” Cristina said sincerely. “You and Jo are family and I do anything for you both.”
Alex got choked up on that and just nodded, although he knew Cristina couldn't see it. Meredith put an arm around his shoulder and replied for him instead.
“We'll see you soon Cristina,” Meredith said with a smile.
“See you both soon,” Cristina's head before she promptly hung up on them.
Meredith put a hand on his shoulder absent-mindedly rubbing his back. He felt more relieved now that Christina I was doing the surgery. it's not that he didn't trust Maggie or think that she was a good surgeon but. It was Jo and he wanted Cristina because he knew her like a sister and he trusted her more than anyone. Alex took a breath that came out shaker then he expected. Despite his relief he was still so scared that he would lose her. It’s in that moment he broke down crying into incessant sobs.
“Oh my God Meredith, what if I, what if I lose them both.”
“You're not, You're not going to lose them,” Meredith said forcefully, choosing to believe it. “Maggie showed me the scans and the surgery plan. Jo's heart valve isn't that bad. It's mostly aggravated by the increased blood flow due to her pregnancy. Besides, Cristina has done this surgery a hundred times and she’s the best Alex. She's never lost a patient on this surgery.”
“But it's still surgery on my pregnant wife! We all know how generic surgeries can go wrong. What if something goes wrong and she dies. What if labor is too much and Jo's heart gives out? There's a very real possibility that I could lose her and the baby if not now then later.”
“Yes that's a possibility, but you have to focus on the facts that statistically this will go well, okay. You can't let yourself drown in what ifs,” Meredith said forcefully grabbing his shoulders and forcing him to look at her. “Okay, you have to stop thinking like this. You have to believe that Jo and the baby are going to be okay. Do you hear me! Say it to me now, Jo and the baby are going to be okay.”
“Jo and, and the baby are going to be okay,” Alex forces himself to say it, but not believing the words.
“Good, say it again.”
“Jo and the baby are going to be okay,” Alex said, the words coming a little easier this time around.
Meredith nodded before she pulled him in for a hug, gripping him tightly. They didn't say much after that. Meredith hugged him for the longest time before they went back to Jo's room. Meredith followed him, staying with him for a little while, doing some chart work as he tried to find something to occupy his mind. The little game that he had played earlier with Luca did the trick for a minute, but his mind wouldn't let him be distracted for long. He eventually tried to fall asleep again as the night wore on.
However, he had only nightmares. He dreamed of Jo fainting, but this time her heart stopped. He watches helplessly as they tried to resuscitate her, but nothing worked. Maggie called the time of death and he watched helplessly. He flashed to Jo’s funeral as he stared at her in the coffin. Helena and Luna looked up at him, holding his hand as they asked 'Where's Mama?' Their voices echo the questing in his mind. He just stood there at her grave, day after day, after day as the seasons changed around him, but he couldn't move, he couldn’t leave her. In his dreams, he heard Jo call his name. Alex. Alex.
“Alex!”
Alex's eyes opened up as he sat up. He was hot and sweaty all over as he looked around. He recognized the hospital room around him in the morning light. Jo was standing over him, alive and well holding her belly and looking at him with eyes of concern though.
“Are you alright? you were crying out in your sleep and thrashing around,” Jo said as she rubbed his shoulder with a warm hand, but he just shook his head.
Alex just stood up and hugged her and Jo didn't need him to explain why. She just hugged him back as he held on to her tightly. The lingering effects of his dream still haunted him. Although he told Meredith he would hope and believe that Jo would be alright, a part of him knew that there was a possibility he could be standing over her grave.
“It's okay, I'm right here,” Jo whispered to him as she pressed up against him and he felt their baby kick against his stomach and held onto her a little bit longer.
“What are you doing out of bed?” Alex scolded her although not fully letting go of her and keeping one arm around.
“I was getting some water and going to the bathroom,” Jo said as she gestured to the empty water bottle next to her.
“Let me help you,” Alex said, putting one around her and for today she let him.
He followed her into the bathroom and waited for her, filling up her water bottle and then helping her back into bed. He moved the girls into the pack and play and got Jo settled in bed again. As she looked up at him, he knew what she would ask before she said it. He crawled into bed with her and held her again. Jo seemed to easily fall asleep again and she slept peacefully, which is something he was thankful for. He held her and didn't fall asleep again, but drifted in and out of consciousness for the next couple hours. Sleeping while holding her helped and the nightmares didn't come back that night.
Until his nightmare came true.

TBoth in Au shanks and in whitebeard's au luffy meets Dragon if yes how is the meeting
He does meet Dragon in both aus.
Dragon doesn't refer to Luffy as his son in either au because he has a better dad in both. But he warns Luffy that they are related and he might have some trouble because of it.
Outside of that they only talk through Sabo.

I question this
I want OG Cale to come back to his world, because since the TCF world is focusing more on Thames  family now, I think its only fair that he, the real trash solves this problem because KRS might dig deep enough into Jour’s Life and then what ? Will he be emotional? Sad? Surprised?  feel any emotions at all over a dead mother he never knew.? NO. From his perspective it would be a stranger’s Business something that is unrelated to him. Of course there is the fact that he is a real Thames and he needs to be involved with this as well. But he can do that alongside OG Cale , like the real cousins they are. How ? well since this is the business of Thames family GOD could  summon OG Cale into the TCF world ( without telling him) and then we see what kind of emotions he go through after coming back to his world for a while.
As to why will GOD will give any shit about Thames family and bother enough to bring OG Cale back to TCF world? because we all know Thames are connected to hunters and these hunters are in a way above the White chalk powder. Because as we have read the Hunters and White paint were colluding together to some grand scheme, And White pain was a world level threat and that’s why The GOD exchanged KRS and CALE’S soul in the first place. So when OG Cale wakes up, He see that  OG KRS is also there in his own OG body in the TCF world. This would mean rn there is no one to look after his reincarnated mother, so he would immediately wanna go back , but after completing this Thames business( because that’s the only way GOD will send him back)
Also how come KRS get to have so many chances to complete his despair and meet the people who have died before in his life ( LHS,CJS, PJT ETC.) But OG Cale doesn’t gets to meet his family who died in his TBOTH timeline? Why is his despair left alone. Why because he is happy now? well KRS was also happy living his life with his friends and becoming rich out of nowhere, although fighting white radish alongside, but he still got a  chance didn’t he.
Also GOD either just randomly chose OG Cale  ( for transmigration) or it was a highly calculated decision, which I think is the latter.
KRS and OG Cale has something in common, and finding it among the readers would only be meaningful when both of them are present in the same place. Also we don’t know a single thing about OG Cale personally even after the summary, we only got to know as to how similar he is to KRS and that he is extremely elegant. All I am saying is. Even though we do find something about Jour, Something mind blowing, It will be pointless to KRS and to us who doesn’t know a thing about OG Cale’s perspective.

Watchmen Issue By Issue #11 (Of 12): Look On My Works Ye Mighty.... (Comissioned by WeirdKev27)
Tumblr media
Hello all you beautiful mystery men. It's almost midnight as my yearlong issuesodic look at Watchmen is almost done. It's been a long ride through bdsm costumes, pirate comics, far less blue penis than I had steeled myself for, the mighty red planet arakko, right wing conspiracy theories, television teleportation and more. But we're at the end.
Tumblr media
Yeah I thought we'd finished all the spotlight, more experimental issues. But turns out I remembered things wrong. See I thought the big climactic battle with Adrian was this issue, but turns out it STARTS here and ends next issue. Instead since we now know he's the mastermind one question remains
Tumblr media
Okay two question remains.. the other is simply; Why? And going in KNOWING Adrian did it and why I can say over this years Moore left plenty of clues. Like I said it is obvious by the end.. but even early on there are subtle hints it's him. The biggest we'll get to but lucky for me, this issue threads us through all of it. So join me under the cut as he walks us through everything..and how he did it all 35 minutes ago.
We open with him musing for a while. I will admit it took a few readings to get past the
Tumblr media
Stage of my analysis and to what he was getting at: that when you look at the bigger picture, past the media white noise, what's going on, when you see everything.. you can see where it's headed. I think at least. It's mostly because that's why Adrian did all this. He saw what was coming.. and it's why he had to.
Outside Dan dan the wallpaper man makes a n intresting case to ice shack: Adrian.. isn't planning like a man whose trying to end the world. He's optimistc a future will happen… so it brings to question what's his end game then? Why take away the world's saftey net and plunge it this close to the brink?
Before we get to that i'm going to go ahead and deal with the subplot for this issue. We see newstand guy, and see what happens around him. Specifically two characters we've seen before, a top not named Josephine and her partner. And her partner, tired of Jo's radicalizm (it was her idea to put the poster up), and breaking down a bi tboth wants ot break up and wants to be straight. This leads to a fight.. and a very noble moment from someone we haven't seen in a while for Malcom is back.
Unsurprisingly his wife wants to reconcile wanting to make up before the apolocylpse. This.. quickly falls apart as said wife.. is still a costco sized box of awful and entitlement. When Malcom understandably wants to help jo not get beaten and possibly assaulted by her ex, his wife… tell shim to stop solving other peoples problems and blah blah blah
Tumblr media
This.. does have a valid point. It shows.. what people are when you strip away everything and the world itself starts to end. Some break from who they really are and become violent, some show their true ass and refuse to help, and some like captain asshole police man stop by to stop a random fight despite far worse things happening
Tumblr media
So it shows who Malcom truly is that out of all these people, all who we've seen before the only one trying to stop help a mostly innocent person, to help change things, and ot break up a fight with police brutality or simply stand and do nothing.. is Malcom. That despite Rorshach claming he was just doing it for the book or for himself.. that Rorshach was wrong.
It sadly shows though.. that Adrian was right.. but for that.. we have to back up a bit. Adrian calls some of his science people who worked on his plan to his atrium for a drink. And while he does.. we begin his backstory….
Adrian was born into privlage, having wealthy parents of average intelligence. Adrian was born a genius, suppressing said gifts as our society often encourages us to and when they died when he was only 17, Adrian was left wanting for nothing.. yet wanting for nothing he burned with an urge to do everything. Unlike many with riches who yearn to do things just because they have money, Adrian yearned to do more but like many, found only someone he could relate to in history, Alexander the Great. A fellow young person who seemingly conquered and did everything. He admired him and followed his journey since you know rich white guy with tons of money. He may have better ideas in mind but he still can't resist a fancy vacation.
It's through it he realizes the tragedy of Alexander.. that he left things having died early of infection at 33 not having united the world nor left an empire that could exist without him. A legacy that truly mattered. So adrian vowed to return and set about on his own legacy inspired by egypt as alexander was: to conquer mankinds ills rather than it's peoples.
Meanwhile our two riders finally finish approaching and enter the weird atrium where adrian just filled it with snow and killed all those people he was talking to. They enter and Dan is still conflicted: Adrian's always been such a peachy guy. How do they play this? Shouldn't they try talking? Rorshach's plan is naturally
Tumblr media
And it's another of those rare times he's actually right. Probably using em all up. IT's fine to find out WHY adrian caused an apocalypse, but maybe figure that out after they make sure they can stop it.
That said their attempt to stop him is sadly futile. Hilarious and entirely impressive for Adrian, but futile.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I love this scene so much. It's adrian treating two of his only friends trying to subdue him with the same gravity as if they came in and threw their coats on the ground and tracked snow in. There's a good reason for that, as he'll ironically explain shortly, but even the fight is a minor inconvenience. He breaks Shach's arm with no effort, and reflects Dan's attack with even less. He defeats two people we've seen tear through crooks like tissue paper and in Shach's case stare down and taken town crooks bigger, stronger and far more connected than him with what he had on hand in what had to be a minute at most.. then politiley asks them what their doing. He even starts explaining his backstory to them again, picking up where he left off, having clearly PLANNED to continue his speech to his former comrades.
It's the supervillian equilvent of playing the last few rounds of a game of mario party when you know already if you've won or lost and nothing you do will change that: You don't want to go thorugh the motions of the rest of the turns, but you have to to get the rewards for it.
So Adrian continues: he tried crime fighting.. but was soon dispelled of the notion all of society's evils were in it's criminals by one man: Edward Blake. When trying to find out where the Hooded Justice , the first mystery man, disappeared to, he found blake and they ended up fighting as Blake "thoguht he was a crimnal" code for "teach the brat a lesson". Adrian lost in the short term, realzing Blake might be involved.. and there's nothing he can do.
It's a brilliant take on one of the most common criticsms of superheroes: that for all they can do… they can only change so much by fighting crime. Is doing all you can and putting your faith in humanity to do the right thing and get better, to simply catch us when we fall, enough? It's a question that's been asked and disected endlessly in superhero comics and that's at the heart of this story: what can a masked man really DO for society. How car can dressing up in neat outfits and punching people go. Watchmen isn't the only work to ask this question: Around the same time we got Squadron Supreme from Marvel (another work on my ever mounting pile of things I can review) which asked the question what if the Justice League just straight up took over the world for it's greater good? Why haven't the supermen taken over and fixed this? Why do they whisper back no? To me the answer is simple: because ultimately if mankind succeeds or fails.. is on us. Someone in a costume shoudln't be the arbiter of good and evil. if they can help us stop being self destructive asses, great, but despite claims by some otherwise they arent' meant to stifle or babysit us, but to inspire us. To show what a person can do, powered or not, when they simply try. Superman put it best at the end of the first arc of JLA:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To me superheroes are there to inspire, do what change they can, and let humanity progress on it's own. They can fight for social change, openly protest shit like homophibia or actively fight the fights the normal man dosen't have the power to. But trying to take over the world or even just shift it.. isn't in their hands. It's as shown with Alexander the great in this very comic: it's creating a utopia that just can't live without him and one that would be paved in blood. If superman just said "put down your weapons and listen to me" it woudln't create peace. it'd just create people trying to kill superman, as we saw with Jon being a living nuke detergent. Adrian does smartly not make it bank entirely on him.. but what he has to do to get us to stop is truly horrifying. It's a question we'll get into more time but a simple one: is it worth millions of lives, as we'll see this takes, to save all of them? Was their a better way? Again.. more next time.. but it's the fact there are no easy answers that make this comic what it is.
Adrian first started to think it might be worth it. with his work feeling hollow.. and then changing entirely with the crimebusters meeting. That's the smoking gun, the big clue that it's him, that was lying there the whole time: the image of him consulting that burned map after Eddie made an ass of himself.. and the simple line "Somebody's gotta save the world" While Captain Metropolis was ENTIRELY wrong about what the world needed saving from, he was right; The world needs saving…
And the ills Adrian saw… were ones VERY horrifying and very real at the time: two superpowers who both KNEW the risk of nuclear armageddon, both having a finger on the trigger.. but neither trusting each other enough to take it off. Money being spent more and more on war, the enviroment downsliding. IN many ways it's issues we still face: money going to war instead of to help people, the enviroment dying because of human greed… it was all too much and still is.
So adrian started studying and puts all the pieces of this plan together: every last one was carefully constructed and every one fits into the story flawlessly: Moore and Gibbons thought this out to the last second and this comes off as the plan of a mad genius, a man sunken to doing awful things in the face of survivial.. just like our character from the tails of the black freighter.. but where as the captain there is screaming, lost to his savagery, adrian keeps a mask of sanity as he describes how he willingly gave people cancer to help break jon, too unpredictable to allow into the plan. And that's not even the worst thing he plans to do for this... we'll get to that but when "giving innocent people cancer to frame someone because he's a slight bother to your plans" isn't the worst thing about it, you know your plan is just a little absolutely fucked.
As for The Comedian, it was simply him being the wrong place at the wrong time: After coming back from a mission he saw the boat, assumed it was drugs or something and followed it to the island.. and found out Adrians plan: to construct a fake alien invasion, a giant monsterous squid. It's why he needed artists AND scientests and why a comic book man was among them: the scientests were to make this actually happen, the artists were to design this thing to perfectly be plausable but as fantastical as needed. Sure it was an implusable .. but as another fictional genius once said "once you elminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter who imporbable, must be the truth". Humanity won't stop fighting it's wars.. so it needed an enemy that was both impossible but also something it couldn't ignore.
As for how it was teleportation: John had made it possible.. but him having to make electric cars was another clue: it couldn't work on people , so the squid would be sent , and via stuff it was programmed with with a trigger, to explode it's clone human brain and create a psychic shockwave leveling half of new york. In an instant humanity would have a new threat to level against, peace within our time would be acomplished.
It's why Adrian feels Blake went mad: he was made obsolete, a man of war in an era of peace. And it's left vauge… did Blake break down to Moloch because he'd be left obsolete.. or because even for a guy as horrible as blake the idea of millions of people dying at once, and in a way he coudln't prevent without speeding up war further, was just too much. That even someone as monsterous as Blake.. coudl see how wrong this was yet how he coudln't do anything about it. It's a great bit of subtly.
As for the other stray pieces those are simple: Rorshach was framed because he was getting too close, and the assasination was faked to throw suspecion of adrian and use Rorshach's narritive for his own good. It's likely, though not outright said, Adrian knew Dan would latch onto it and thus come to confront him.. but that it stalled them both enough. For you see, when Dan confronts Adrian prepared to stop his plan before he hurts anyone…. we get one of the most iconic, crushing, and amazing lines in any work of fiction ever. I stand FIRMLY behind that statment: it's simply one line, one panel, but in one panel it deconstructs the villianous monologue and utterly changes how this climax is going to play out… our heroes came in expecting to be able to stop this, that Adrian was simply monologing. But as I hinted at earlier, he was going through the motions.. and he'd already won the game 35 minutes ago
Tumblr media
It's a simple line but one that just shakes you. He has won.. and seconds after we see how as all these people we followed throughout the entire comic, all these every day people from the far right newspaper man to the psychatrist…
Tumblr media
And that's where we'll leave it. There is an interview portion.. but frankly this ending is too impactful. Adrian has won, just about every character who isn't on mars or in antartica is dead, the question we'll answer next month when the clock hits midnight and this story ends.. is "What Now?"

…………………………………………………………………
Alex was trying to concentrate. He had one shot at this and prepared himself as he watched the timer countdown. He only had a few seconds to do this so he knew he had to be perfect. He watched as the timer counted down, 3, 2, 1, go. He let the first pendulum swing then the second, but then he fumbled the third one. Two of the pendulums crashed together and he lost the game. Alex tried again, but with the same results, and groaned at his failures.
This stupid game was getting the better of him. He was a surgeon, he was supposed to have quick fingers and know how to keep time. The fifteen-year-old nonbinary teen, Luca, in the bed next to him, giggled as Alex grumbled and tried again. This time he got all the swinging in time, and the fourth one went before the two collided and he lost again. Luca snorted but had the decency to cover their mouth.
Alex grunted as he handed the phone back to Luca. “Since when does Tic Tok have games anyway? I thought it was just like a dancing-storytelling version of Vine?” Alex asked as he crossed his arms.
“Oh please like you don't have a TikTok Dr. Alex,” Lucas said as they shook their head. “And it's a multi-purpose social media app. I even get news on here.”
“Whatever,” Alex said as he waved it off. “Can I take a look at your scar now?”
“Yeah,” Luca said, rolling up their gown as Alex saw the scar on their side.
The incision was healing nicely after the repair for blunt force trauma to their abdomen nearly ripped apart their liver. Although they had to take the right lobe out, the left lobe of the liver was recovering nicely and would regenerate the right lobe soon enough. Luca was healing up nicely, inside and out and they had gotten their strength and humor back. Link had worked with him in surgery as they reset the teen’s leg and grabbed the Doppler to check the blood flow, seeing that all was good.
“Well, I think we're on track to discharge you tomorrow and you can go home,” Alex said with a smile.
“Really?” Luca asked, perking up as they smiled.
“Yup, you should get out of here, it’s been long enough,” Alex said as he knew how much Luca wanted to go home and hated being away from friends and their mom.
They had been airlifted here from Gold Bar after they were in a car crash with their father who was recovering in the general ward. Their mom worked and couldn’t make it in every day and their friends could only visit once. Alex had heard Owen's plan to discharge their father tomorrow and figured he’d see if Luca could go home as well.
Alex put the Doppler away as Luca pulled up tik tok on their phone again. “Wanna play again before you go and see if you can beat it?”
Before Alex could say yes, the door swung open and one of the interns, Yasuda ran in. Alex turned, annoyed at how she had rushed in, but when he saw the look on her face he paused. It was a look of worry that meant someone he loved was hurt and his heart stopped.
“Dr Karev, it's your wife.”
…………………………………………………………………
Alex raced down the hallway like an intern running after an incoming trauma. As soon as Yasuda said that Jo had fainted, he ran off to find her. He was desperate to get to his wife. He had to see if she and their baby were alright. He knew realistically that they would be, but he had to see it for himself.
He ran up to the maternity ward first, before running down to the ORs, knowing that was where they were coming from. He eventually found them as Carina was pushing Jo in a wheelchair with one of the newer OB interns beside her. Alex quickly raced up to them and they paused for a second as he finally reached her. Despite seeing her, there was still a tightness in his chest as he knelt in front of her. Jo gave him a tired smile, looking up from where she was holding her 26 week pregnant bump and an ice pack against her forehead.
“I'm okay,” Jo promised, although she looked up at him with weary eyes.
“Like hell you are,” Alex said, cupping her cheek with his hand and holding her bump with his other hand. “What happened? How did you hit your head? Are you dizzy? Did you throw up?”
“Hey,” Jo said, getting him to focus on her again as she looked into his eyes. “I'm fine. The baby’s fine, I promise.”
Sill, Alex looked up at Carina who gave him a reassuring smile. “Rest assured Dr. Karev, Jo and your baby are alright. She was faint from standing for a long uterine abrasion surgery and she only hit her head on a tray as she was trying to get up on her own. Apart from a small bump on her head, she is fine.”
Alex nodded as Jo let him move the ice pack so he could see the small red mark on her hairline. “You're okay?”
“I’m okay,” Jo assured him with a smile, as much as she said she hated everyone fussing over her, she secretly loved to be taken care of by him, especially while pregnant.
“I thought we said no fainting in ORs this time around,” Alex said with a slight smile despite his lingering worry.
“I know,” Jo looked up at him with a matching small smile, and he could see fatigue in her eyes.
“Why don’t you take the rest of the day off and go home to rest,” Alex insisted as he took over punishing her wheelchair as they continued down the hallways again.
“It’s already approved,” Carina agreed with a nod.
“No,” Jo insisted as she looked up at them.
Alex and Carina exchanged a look as both of them paused for a second before they both opened their mouths to protest. However, Jo quickly cut them off.
“I’m fine, I promise and I’ll take it easy for the rest of the day,” Jo said as she looked at them insistently. “I'll take a break and go get something to eat and drink. I'll go visit the girls and then I'll do paperwork, nothing too strenuous.”
“Josephine, I don't think this is very wise,” Carina said, her eyebrows knitted together as she placed a hand on Jo’s shoulder. “And as your doctor and your superior, I am urging you to go home.”
“I don't want to go home and be bored for the next four hours until Alex and the girls get there,” Jo lamented with a frown.
“Jo please just take it easy, for your sake and the baby's sake!” Alex pleaded with her, getting mad that she would rather stress herself out than relax at home.
“The baby and I are fine!” Jo said as she went to get up, despite both of their protests as they tried to keep her seated and she managed to stand up strong. “I am fine.”
Jo walked away from them and Alex let out a deep sigh. He pinched his nose as Carina just shook her head and put her hand on her hips. They never understood why she did this. He knew she hated being lonely, and her anxiety rose especially while pregnant, but this was beyond that.
“I’ll at least keep an eye on her and make sure she does desk work, checking in patients, calls, and chart work, but no work on any active labors or C-sections,” Carina said as she shrugged, they both knew by now that Jo would still try and deliver babies. It was what she lived for.
“I'll stay with her for now and if she gets faint again, I'll take her home,” Alex nodded as Carina agreed with their plan.
Carina went back down the hall to the OR to finish the surgery while Alex looked back to Jo. She was walking away and he had to jog to catch up with her. When he did, he put a hand on her back as he fell in step with her. Jo smiled at him, as she knew she had won.
They both took a lunch and went down to the cafeteria. They got something to eat and drink as she rested with her feet up on an extra chair. He watched her closely, but she seemed alright and was even eager to chase the girls around. They pulled them out of daycare for a bit as they got some cuddles and hung out in Alex’s office before they took them back.
After they said goodbye to the girls, they walked back up to the maternity ward. Carina was waiting for her and Jo sat down in a chair at the nurse's station. Carina presented her with a stack of charts to work on and Jo scowled at the tower of paperwork she had.
“You could always just go home?” Alex said, looking down at her as he leaned on the counter.
“No, I’m good,” Jo said as she plastered on a smile, opened the first file, and logged into the computer
“Alright,” Alex as he stood there a little longer, wishing for an excuse to stay.
Jo glanced over at him with a light glare, telling him to go. His phone dinged and Alex pulled it out as he sighed. He was being paged to the ER for a consult but looked back at his pregnant wife.
“Go, I'll be fine,” Jo said again with a light smile.
He almost believed her, but there was something inside of him that told him he needed to worry about her. Still, he looked down at the page and knew that he had to go. He leaned down and kissed her cheek. Jo smiled before she reached up to grasp his chin as she turned to kiss his lips.
“Promise me, you’ll page me if you even feel the slightest bit sick,” Alex insisted as he watched her.
“I promise,” Jo said and he knew she was resisting the urge to roll her eyes. “But don't worry I'm in good hands.”
Jo looked back at the nurses who all smiled back at her and nodded, reassuring him. If he couldn’t look after her, the nurses were the second best thing.
“Alright, I'll see you later,” Alex said as he reluctantly turned around and walked away.
…………………………………………………………………
Later that afternoon Alex walked back to the Maternity ward and saw Jo standing at the nurse's station. He couldn't shake the feeling of worry he had for her and decided to take an extra break to go check on her. Although he had heard from the nurses that she was fine and grumbling about the paperwork.
When he spotted her, Jo was speaking to a few of the new interns and the nurses. Alex smiled as he approached her. At 26 weeks pregnant, Jo had a sizable bump under her black scrub shirt, and he loved admiring it. She had both of her hands on her back, rubbing in small circles and he reached out to rub her back for her. As Alex put his hand on her back, Jo looked up at him with hazy eyes and leaned into him as she began to waver.
“Jo, Jo,” Alex said as her eyes fluttered shut and he quickly wrapped his arms around her and held her.
“I'm fine, I didn’t pass out,” Jo said, putting a hand on her head as she took a few deep breaths. “I'm just a little light headed.”
“Get me a chair!” Alex yelled at them as they all jumped into action.
The intern quickly turned and scrambled around as they tried to grab one of the chairs that were connected to a line of other chairs from the waiting room. The nurses were smarter and quickly gave him the rolling chair from behind the desk and helped him ease Jo into it.
Alex pulled out his stethoscope and gave her a once-over. Her heart sounded fine, her lungs sounded good too. But as he put his hand on her forehead, she felt hot.
“Is there anything I can get you, Dr. Karev?” One of the interns asked.
“No, now scram,” Alex said, knowing Jo didn’t like a crowd fussing over her and they all quickly left them alone.
“I hate this,” Jo said, rubbing her forehead.
“I know,” Alex gave her a sad smile as he knelt down in front of her and reached up to cup her cheek. “What's going on Jo?”
“I'm not feeling so good,” Jo admitted with a sigh. “I think I'm coming down with a cold or something.”
“Why didn’t you tell me or Carina?”
“I didn't want you to worry, I'm sorry,” Jo said as she frowned and tears sprung in her eyes.
“I’m always going to worry about you, but if I know what's going on then I can help you,” Alex said as he rubbed her cheek with his thumb.
“I know,” Jo cried as she covered her face with her hand. “It just makes me feel like I can't do my job or anything and I didn’t want to be admitted like last time where everyone was there and they all found out I was pregnant. It was fun to celebrate it, but I hated being fussed over.”
“I know you hate it, but you need to be fussed over because you’re not feeling well. You're clearly running a fever and I know you're tired. And don't pretend that you don't have a runny nose, because I know you have tissues stuffed in your pockets.”
“My throat hurts too,” Jo admitted as her voice started to sound a little horse.
“I’m sorry, Jo,” Alex said with a sigh as he frowned.
Now that she was in the second trimester her pregnancy symptoms had eased up. However it came with new symptoms, she still had insomnia and she struggled to sleep. This often left her tired and in need of a daily nap alongside their toddlers. She was also dealing with heartburn and round ligament pain. Now that she was sick he couldn’t imagine how much worse she felt.
“Come on, let's go home,” Alex said, putting his arm around her as he helped her up.
“Okay,” Jo said as for once she didn't protest and leaned into him.
“Thank you,” Alex said as he reached around to hold her bump and they walked together towards the resident’s lounge.
“Will you make me mac and cheese for dinner?” Jo asked, looking up at him with pleading eyes.
“Of course,” Alex agreed, despite how they’d had twice in the past week he knew the girls loved it just like their Mama.
“Thank you,” Jo said as she leaned in and kissed his cheek and he tried not to blush at her affection.
Jo did as she was told, for once, and went home. They let Carina and Hayes know they were leaving and Alex took a bit of work home with him. Then they went and got the girls from daycare and headed home. When they got there, her nose started running even more and she opened up the cough drops. He took her temperature and she was 100.9° F.  Alex just raised an eyebrow at her as Jo ignored his eyes. She did stay home the next day and the day after that. After a few days in bed, Jo recovered from her cold. Then she was back to her usual self, even her pregnancy symptoms eased up, and Alex’s worry disappeared…
Until a week later.

Fantastic Beasts And Sibling Relationships
One of the things I find very intereting in Fantastic Beasts is the way sibling relationships are framing the entire series. Considering that the events that unfolded between the Dumbledore siblings are at the heart of this story as much as the relationship between Grindelwald and Dumbledore, I find this really interesting.
The Goldsteins: Tina and Queenie lost their parents early and Tina raised Queenie after a certain point. They are close and they adore each other. Their conflict started with Queenie wanting to break the law to be with Jacob. She is taken with Grindelwald’s cause because it would allow a world in which she could live and love any way she wanted, and she is blocking all the questionable aspects.
Both Dumbledore brothers were carers of a younger sibling. In their case, Albus was the one who felt trapped, who wanted to live by rising to his fullest potential, by not having to hide, and by being with the man he loved. And it took him experiencing loss and heartbreak to wake up.
The Scamanders: Newt and Theseus have a reluctant relationship. It allows us one of the few glimpses of Newt being unfair towards someone. Theseus, who is a war hero and a people’s person, adores him, he invites him over, he warns him when he’s being watched.  Nevertheless Newt, who DOES love his brothers back, resents his brothers’ ties to the ministry and the way he has to compromise instead of individualising all his decisions according to circumstance. Moreover he feels the weight of being constantly compared to his brothers and then there is the predicament of Leta and Theseus engagement, which created an uncomfortable situation.
While it is Newt who Albus admires, he is the Theseus of the relationship. He is social, doesn’t have many friends but is respected and popular, he has ambition and he loves his brother deeply but his sentiment has not been experienced by Aberforth in the way he would have wished. Aberforth is the one who preferred animals over humans, who would never sit behind a desk and needed his freedom. He is a man who was looked down upon because of his untraditional choices instead of his capabilities and who was considered a bruth, but was loving and a carer in his way. Dumbledore’s love for Grindelwald got between these two in a different way. Finally, loss was central to tboth sibling relationships, but it brought the Scamanders together rather than tearing them apart.
The Lestranges: Leta neglected Corvus, not because she didn’t care for him but because as a child she wanted to be left alone for a bit, and she became responsible for his death without meaning to. At the same time we have Yusuf, a brother who is trying to kill his own sisters’ brother to avenge what was done to his family. Instead he learns that that child is dead and he loses his last living relative.
Leta’s feelings of regret and guilt reflect Dumbledore’s own feelings about Ariana’s death. On the contrary, her deep isolation after being considered wicked and troublesome by everyone for most of her life has elements of what Aberforth might have felt. Her feelings of being monstrous and of not being worthy of love is something that both brothers would be able to relate to in one way or  another. As for the connections to Yusuf, despite not being vindictive, Albus was in a way the avenger of his family’s ruin. Ariana had been assaulted by muggles and both his parents’ deaths were the eventual outcome of them having to hide from muggles, of not being able to defend themselves without breaking the status of secracy. Wanting a world in which muggles would not be able to persecute wizards would have felt like his chance at justice, instead of punishment, and of bettering the society. Both characters lost even more in their attempts. I am really interested to see how Yusuf’s journey will continue. After Grindelwald killed Leta, Yusuf will probably be against him, but then we have a scene of Grindelwald taking a memory from Yusuf in one of the trailers. I’ve theorized before that Grindelwald removes the memory of Leta so that he can take Yusuf easily in his side. There is this quote in one of the trailer about ‘the past whisper[ing] to you’ if you listen close enough. I really like this theme of the importance of memory; of who we become as a result of our mistakes and our loss and of who we’d be without them.

I know couples in JnD are not perfect and had some problems of development for the lack of screentime, the sexisms in videogames at the beginning of the 2000s and other stuff, but I want to talk about all the things I love about every of them:
Jak and Keira
-They know each other since childhood, so they were friends for years before became in a couple. Besides tboth grew up in Sandover in the past, so they can talk about it everytime they feel nostalgic and understand that common feeling about all they miss.
-They had hobbies in commons! Both love races, Jak is not so expert about mechanic as Keira but he also have some notions about it so they can perfectly have conversations about all that stuff.
-They had a development. They made mistakes, yeah, specially in Jak 2 because of their mutual jelous and misunderstandings, but they overcame it, and in Jak X we can see how well they get along in that moment, they were starting to leave their teenage years behind and becoming in adults, we see them talking naturally and doing stuff together, and also supporting emotionally each other.
-In Jak X, everytime Keira holds Jak's hand, his expression change (to sadness or calm, depending of the situation) empathizing with her immediately. I think it's a very beautiful detail.
-Hero x Genious inventor. I Love that concept and I saw it for the first time in this series. The hero not always have to end up with a princess.
Daxter and Tess
-Both are cheerful and loving, and give a lot mutual hugs to the other one, share very sweet moments together and in general show very openly their love feelings.
-Both are very talkative and funny. I bet they could be talking for hours without getting bored.
-Tess is taller than Daxter (I find that pretty cute, haha)
-This is not 100% canon but it seems both are orphan and I find very pleasant that each one is the lovable and attentive person that the other one deserves to full their feelings of loliness.
-Tess changed her form and her life for Daxter and since he decided to stay with her instead go to the universe with the precursors at the end of Jak 3 I'm sure Daxter even would be able to do the same for her and become in human if that was her wish (Shrek 2 emotive moment, here we go)
-Typical couple who names the other one with silly and cute nicknames.
Torn and Ashelin
-They know each other since years ago and worked together. They were first conmrades, allies and friends before they become in couple.
-Their relationship is clearly full of mutual respect. Ashelin is sexy and has a very attractive appearance, but Torn likes her for who was her inside, not for her looks.
-Their personalities are opposite, but also complement each other: Torn is very serious and hard-working, but despite that Ashelin manages to make him smile, relax and even go out dancing and enjoy with their friends (like at the end of Jak 2 and Jak X)
-Ashelin trusted so much in Torn she kept working with him as spy for the Underground despite of both were in different sides.
-Torn loved her so much he put Ashelin's life and safety over the Underground.
-They share an aura of calm when they're together. I bet they're the kind of couple who can understand with a single look, and stay in silence for minutes and still feel confortable and happy.
-They're totally a battle couple and I love that. Queen soldier x commander, the perfect match

Myths about the Iliad that I really dislike
It portrays a significant difference between Greek and Trojan culture. No, it doesn’t. Same gods, same practices, not even a language problem being shown. Several previous relationships between the various characters on different sides are mentioned to have taken place on the basis of shared cultural values, some still happen during the war with no issue. Even when Ulysses and Diomedes volate such values they aren’t supported by all of the Achaeans. Basically tboth sides of the conflict are described as having the same culture, the difference is that the Trojans are in their home, the Achaeans aren’t.
Helen is in Troy because she is in love with Paris and by her own choice. Again: no. When Helen speaks with Priam on the walls she is adamant about having been kidnapped and is very clearly extremely unhappy about both being seen as the cause of the war and being in Troy with Paris. Aphrodite threatens her to make her share Paris’ bed.
The poem is supposed to support one side. Absolutely not: the poem is about war in general and extremely evenhanded in its treatment of all involved. Of course: it does so inside some cultural boundaries (see my son Tersites’ treatment), but that doesn’t make the narrator identify any “wrong” or “right” side, just wrong or right behaviours that are distributed evenly across the board. Please, do not treat ancient myth like a morality play.
