Dustin was the first to figure out that Eddie and Steve were dating, and the funny part? They hadn’t even begun dating at that point.

Dustin had been close with the both of them long enough to understand how they acted around people they were attracted to; Eddie liked physical contact, always brushing shoulders or knees with the object of his affections. Steve, on the other hand, stared. He would stare and admire and smile and observe. Dustin saw both sides, and came to the assumption that they were together already.

He realized his assumption was wrong while helping Eddie set up for their DND session at Steve’s house (Dustin volunteered Steve; he had the biggest house, it was the easiest option).

Eddie and Dustin had snuck into Steve’s house at about 8 am, trying their bests to be quiet considering Steve appeared to be asleep. This all went down the drain when Eddie and Dustin began squabbling over something simple, both of them getting louder and louder, to the point they woke Steve up.

Steve came stumbling down his staircase, eyes squished shut to hide from the sun, white tee shirt riding up his chest as he scratched at his side and dark blue and white checkered boxers hugging his thighs, clearly a little tight for boxers. Eddie shut up within seconds, face turning shades of red as he stared at Steve with wide eyes. Dustin hid the half naked Steve from his vision.

“God, man, put some clothes on,” Dustin said, and Steve scoffed.

“You’re in my house, Henderson. Deal with it. Fuck, you two are early as shit. Did you pick up Dustin?” Dustin, after a second, realized that Eddie was being spoken to, and glanced at Eddie, who was still staring, seemingly completely oblivious to Steve’s question. Dustin kicked Eddie in the shin.

“Fuck! What?” Steve snorted a laugh, dragging his hand through undone hair, only distracting Eddie a little more.

“Did you pick up Dustin?”

“Yeah. The little shit left trash in my van again,” Eddie teased affectionately, ruffling Dustin’s hair and hat around a little. Dustin grinned slightly. Steve smiled, watching Eddie with admiration. Dustin, who was used to this pining by now, didn’t notice it much.

“Well. I guess I’ll get up now. Do you two want breakfast?”

“God, Harrington, you can’t cook-”

“Yes. Yes, please,” Eddie interrupted. Dustin gave him a look. Steve smiled gently and walked back up the stairs.

“God, can you two wait to be domestic until y’all actually live together?” Dustin grumbled, tugging the edge of a cloth to straighten it.

“I’m- what?” Eddie asked, brows furrowed in evident confusion. Dustin blinked.

“You and Steve. I’m pretty sure the entirety of Hellfire knows you two are dating by now.” Eddie flushed a bright red, shoulders tightening up.

“We aren’t dating!” he defended, voice pitching. Dustin snorted.

“Sure.”

“Seriously, Henderson. Not dating,” Eddie said, mumbling by the end of it. Dustin took that, turning to stare.

“You’re serious?” Eddie hummed and glanced at his watch, then glanced at the wall clock. “Dude. No way you two aren’t dating. He obviously likes you back.”

“Dustin, don’t meddle,” Eddie warned, and before Dustin could continue, Mike entered, an anxious Will entering behind him. Eddie grinned at the new member of the party, approaching instantly.

“Is this the famous Will the Wise I’ve heard so much about?” Eddie boasted, slightly pushing Mike. Mike huffed a laugh, and Will smiled, rubbing the back of his neck. Dustin saw Steve at the steps, and followed him into the kitchen.

“Harrington. Harrington. Steve!”

“Mm? Yeah?” Steve asked, turning as if his name hadn’t been repeated thrice now.

“Dude. You like Eddie.” Steve turned red.

“I do not.”

“You do too!”

“What makes you think that?” Steve asked, turning the stove on.

“Dude! You stare at him, incessantly. It’s kind of annoying at this point honestly, even I’m not that obsessed with Susie. You smile at him with that dork ass smile of yours and you make those shitty jokes that have worked on no one in the history of never, and Eddie always laughs at them, not because you’re particularly funny, but because he thinks you’re a fucking dork, because you are, and laughs because he definitely likes you too,” Dustin rambled. Steve blinked a bit, staring at Dustin.

“You think?”

“Dude, I know! Sure, sure, the guy’s kinda touchy with everyone, but not as much as he is with you. Good lord, he always sits next to you and he laughs at all your jokes and he calls you ‘princess’ all the time, Harrington are you dense?” Steve stared some more. Dustin blinked before rubbing his temples. “You’re hopeless dude. Absolutely hopeless.”

A week later, Dustin is pulled away from some code he was toying with by incessant knocking on his front door.

“Dusty can you get it?! Im making cookies and my hands are all greasy!”

“Of course, Mom!” Dustin called before making sure his code wouldn’t disappear and running downstairs to shut up the knocking. He yanked the door open, met with Eddie’s fist, which almost connected with his face before Eddie jumped.

“Henderson!”

“Munson!” Dustin returned with mock enthusiasm. “What are you doing pounding on my door at seven at night?? It’s dark out. Aren’t you working today-”

“Steve asked me out. Steve Harrington asked me out.”

“Yeah, Ed, Theres only one Steve that we both know and it’s Steve Harrington, oh my lord,” Dustin heaved before Eddie shook Dustin’s shoulders.

“He asked me out, Dustin!”

“Good! The world itself is exhausted with watching you two pine for each other.” Eddie’s face flattened.

“You need to bring the attitude down a few notches.”

“You need to bring your crush down a few notches.”

“Oh my god. Be happy for me.”

“I’m happy for me, you two are finally getting together.”

stranger things autism squad hcs

- the squad consists of jonathan, eddie, robin, steve (and will but i’ll talk abt him with the rest of the party’s hcs)

the rest of them are also neurodivergent, mainly adhd or anxiety and obviously they all have ptsd

- eddie robin and steve also have adhd (and steve has dyslexia)

- steve and jonathan tend to get overstimulated by the same things, same with eddie and robin

- eddie and jonathan have music playing 24/7 so their thoughts don’t get too loud

- steve is hyper-empathetic to the ppl around him and tends to mimic stims and tics from the others

a lot of times robin and steve end up mimicking the same stuff back at each other until one of them gets distracted (which is usually pretty fast)

- jonathan is touch averse, can only handle being touched by family/very close friends

- steve is touch starved and finds physical affection grounding (and eddie and robin are happy to oblige bc they do too)

- steve has a super high pain tolerance

- eddie does not understand the concept of personal space

- steve has excellent hand-eye coordination (basketball!) but that’s about it, he’s almost as clumsy as robin most days

- eddie has lived off of solely spaghettio’s and chicken nuggets for 19 years

- jonathan can’t drink any beverage other than water

- the only food steve knows how to make is his and robins comfort foods (his is mac and cheese, robin’s is pancakes)

- the four of them are completely clueless when people try to subtly hint or imply things to them. they will not get it unless it is explicitly stated

- steve and eddie have a good sense of direction but mess up left and right, jonathan and robin are the opposite, they get lost constantly but make fun of steve and eddie for having to do the L thing (iykyk) to figure out left/right

- eddie ends up chewing on paper a lot and has accidentally swallowed a bunch

- eddie and steve are incapable of doing homework and are terrible test-takers

- steve and robin are perfectionists but in different ways. steve will start organizing peoples rooms subconsciously and has a bunch of random little rules for himself (tie left shoe first, check locks three times, etc.) robin is a perfectionist about her grades/band/how she looks/etc.

- jonathan and steve hate making eye contact, eddie makes too much eye contact and robin doesn’t even look up from her book when people talk to her

- eddie and robin accidentally eavesdrop a lot but end up getting a bunch of town gossip and tell steve about it. they’re all really invested in mr. clarke’s love life

- eddie and jonathan have synesthesia

- jonathan has a lack of facial expressions while eddie and robin over-exaggerate theirs. steve masks the most so he has “normal” facial expressions

- steve has trouble expressing himself a lot of the time, he’ll usually ask robin for certain words to describe things and bc she loves big words and vocabulary she always has one

- robin is a terrible liar and steve finds it hilarious

- they all tend to recharge on their own after a lot of socializing, or they all go to steve’s and just like. exist together

- steve keeps a very strict schedule and gets really anxious/upset when it’s messed up

- robin and eddie tend to overshare

- jonathan and steve talk pretty monotone (jonathan more so) while robin and eddie talk in super energetic or dramatic tones (they’re both former theatre kids i can feel it in my bones)

- steve has auditory processing issues, often asks people to repeat what they said (overtime he also starts to lose his hearing so he ends up learning to read lips)

- when they’re anxious robin and eddie usually go hyperverbal, while steve and jonathan tend to go nonverbal

- steve and eddie have echolalia and both used to get super frustrated with themselves before they met and were like “oh im not the only one thank fuck”

- jonathan and robin have photographic memories, steve and eddie have trouble remembering what they had for breakfast

- robin is pretty blunt but steve appreciates it because she gets straight to the point and calls him out if he does something stupid (aka smth King Steve would do)

- steve’s main mask is, obviously, king steve. his parents didn’t like the way he acted when he was younger, they wanted a “normal” child. so they trained him to be one. he still falls back into old habits some days but robin or eddie snap him out of it and comfort him after

- steve and robin mask the most, but steve does wayyy more than all of them combined. robins parents are autistic so she only really masks around people in public

she does around steve until they get closer and she feels comfortable enough to unmask (though she doesn’t really know why,,) and steve notices and is like “…you can… take it off?” and robin realizes oh he’s like me

- joyce is an amazing mother and jonathan only ever felt the need to mask around lonnie. once he leaves (aka joyce kicks him out with hopper’s help) will and jonathan rarely mask at home unless they’re really anxious or upset

- eddie masked most of his childhood. when he grows up he masks around his dad, but not anyone else. he thought if anyone hated him they could go fuck themselves. wayne is also autistic so they never feel the need to mask around each other. he still doesn’t give a shit what other people think of him (and tries to help the others feel that way too)

Do you have any random thoughts or hcs about Steve and his parents? I know that’s vague but if you have just like anything to say about them I’d love to hear it because the little snippets you say about them and the way they’re portrayed in your Saint Stephen fic has entranced me

i think about steve and his parents a lot so sure!!! here’s my (current and subject to change) harrington family backstory (some of these might be repetitions of previous hc posts, but i can’t be arsed to go back searching for them):

i think steve’s dad, richard harrington (hereafter referred to as dick) has a big thing about proving himself. he started working for his dad right out of high school (a real estate company), and he always wanted to prove that he was deserving of it, and live up to the standards his father set for him. he dedicates so much time to the business that it grows from being hawkins based, to indiana based, and so on.

he was a hawkins boy, born and raised, unlike diane, the future mrs harrington. he liked that she was from out of town, made him feel bigger than the small town he grew up in.

they had steve when dick was in his 30s, and diane in her late twenties. diane suffered through the birth, and decided she never wanted another child. she found it hard to connect with steve as a baby, and felt uneasy about her position as a stay at home mother. all of this culminating in the steve falling down the stairs incident, at which point dick gave in and hired a nanny.

steve and diane do still bond though, and when steve’s a toddler he’s become a total mommy’s boy.

dick got rich, had women throwing themselves at him, and cheated on his wife. repeatedly.

now, steve and dick were originally pretty close. dick wasn’t ever really that close to his dad, who suffered a lot with ptsd, and he didn’t want to make that same mistake. but then steve (at around 6 years old) caught him with his affair partner, and told diane.

dick was trying to apologise and make it work, when his parents started getting old and ill. and diane came up with the ultimatum that either they move back to dick’s hometown where she can keep a better eye on him, or they’re done.

he starts to resent pretty much his entire family. steve for catching him and telling diane, his parents for getting sick, and diane for making him move home.

so they move, but that doesn’t end dick’s affairs, and instead causes an even bigger divide in the family. he still has to travel frequently for the company, and diane doesn’t actually want to leave dick or their family, so instead of dealing with it, she lashes out at dick, and emotionally relies, very heavily, on steve. who she calls her best friend and the only person in the world she has left in her corner. it becomes a pretty unhealthy relationship, though neither would recognise that. steve likes helping his mum! he wants to support her and be in her corner, and with his growing resentment towards his father, he feels it’s his duty to stand up for her.

dick never really liked how close steve and diane were, in the typical 80s father fashion of not wanting a sissy for a son, but he especially didn’t like the way diane was turning steve against him. but any attempt to rectify this just sent steve further away. and by the time we see steve in canon, he interprets pretty much anything his dad does in a negative light. deservingly or not.

as a family they have a lot of issues, but they do all love each other, though sometimes they might not feel loved by one another.

and as it stands in the saint stephen universe, the loss of steve really did cause the entire family to just fall apart. they can’t function without him. they hadn’t realised how much their marriage had grown to rely on steve until he was gone. and, for better or worse, it’s caused a lot of realisations about their dynamics (primarily for dick, who’s suddenly aware of just how distant he and steve were, and that, much like his relationship with his dad, he no longer has the opportunity to fix it)

🎲 Eddie is toddler/kid regressor and his age range is 3 - 6. His main caregiver is, of course, Stevie

🕶️ Steve is a caregiver and absolutely loves being one, he's naturally nurturing to his little ones and will go full Mama Steve on 'em. He doesn't really care what he's called, but he'll get so excited when he hears a nickname. His main little is, of course, Ed

🎲 I do headcanon Eddie as someone who has auDHD! So he'll mostly be a quiet boy when regressed big or not or just be super duper hyper on another day! Stimming is a big thing for him as well, just random stuffs. And he also makes a bunch of squeaks and screams

⬇️🎲 I also headcanon Eddie as a trans man! (FTM, of course) So with all the sensory issue stuff, shark week and dysmorphia also play a big part in Eddie both while he's big and little. Steve and everyone else supports him, but he still has things of his own to handle. But he's trying his best!

🕶️ Stevie is an absolute sucker for his little ones (mostly Eddie, Billy and Robin) and will always ALWAYS feel terrible for even trying to put them in timeout. Like if someone is in tears, he is tearing up as well

⬇️🕶️ Even so, that happens, like, all the time, he's still a strict caregiver. Rules and (light) punishments are set and used all the time, but Steve also forgets sometimes LAMO. Like he could've yelled or something, and then Dustin just randomly comes up behind him and is like "STEVIE BROKE A RULEEEEE" while he's also breaking that rule

🎲 Usually, big Eddie ain't scared of a thing, he's a strong boy, but being little... he's shy and sensitive (me too Ed) and is just trying his best to be honest. He's more of a softie and far more vulnerable than his big self. Like horror movies and clowns? Eddie is already in tears before SEEING them

🕶️ He spoils the world out of his littles, ESPECIALLY Eddie. Like Eddie is his sweet baby and he deserves to be spoilt. And he's for sure that parent that has extra, extra, EXTRA supplies that he still packs somewhere and somehow in his house. And this man canNOT stand 10 seconds straight without giving into puppy eyes

🎲 Anything will go into this boy's mouth if it is in his sight. Table corners, bark, door knobs, wood, grass... he always needs a teether or paci in his mouth because he will not hesitate to go and swallow his whole mouth full with... something. Even his own hair and fingers... (real for the fingers)

🕶️ His favorite little's to look after are Eddie (of course), Robin, Billy, Dustin and Chrissy

🎲 Eddie's favorite people to be around are Steve (of course), Robin, Chrissy, Dustin and Joyce

🕶️ One of his favorite activities to do is storytime, like storybooks to interactive finger/sock muppets, he has EVERYTHING. And he's always so, so creative with all the little stories he reads, and everyone eats it UPPP. Even the caregivers as well

🎲 His favorite plushies are a black bat (Igor), a red dragon (Smokie) and a green and purple lizard (Iggy). He always loves action figures (He-Man, Thundercat) and blocks as well

⬇️🎲 Also, also. His favorite thing EVER has to be coloring. He's always seen with a coloring book with dragons or He-Man and he doesn't mind sharing, Robbie or Chrissy are always joining him in a bit of coloring and he doesn't mind whatever colors they use, as long as it's IN the lines

🕶️ He doesn't really care at whatever activity he's doing with his littles if I'm being honest. Like it could go from a super tough fight against a fire breathing dragon, to a tea party WITH tutus on, to a deep exploration in the jungle, to just playing with puzzles and blocks. Like he will go up and beyond to play with each of his little's equally (tiny and big)

🎲 Halloween!! Eddie absolutely love, love, LOVESSSS halloween with all of his heart. He has since he was out of the womb if I'm being honest. And being little around the spooky season is such a treat for Eddie. Like he will dress up in different outfits every single day until the big night and rahhhhh!!

🕶️ He always likes taking his little's out to their favorite stores and places. Eddie with the record shop, Robbie with ice cream (or whatever's left of Scoops Ahoy), Billy out to the beach, Chrissy to the toy shop (I headcanon that she never had a good childhood and never got to go to the toy store :( ) and so on and so on

🎲 This boy is in his terrible twos. With who? Robin. These two immediately connected at the hip once both found out they were regressors (and both trans, yes, I do both headcanon them as trans RAHHHH JUMPSCARE!!!!! /j) and have been mischievous lil people since. You will not see them apart, unless Ed is with Steve and Robbie is with Nancy. Sugar rushes, getting in trouble, breaking rules, making messes BOY!! And if one cries, the other cries after LAMO

MY FAVORITE STEVE & KIDS HC AT THE MOMENT: the kids coming to you (and steve) for relationship advice because even though they would never admit it out loud your relationship with steve is perfect to them so of course they want your opinion on their own love life 😭❤️

omg it's been so long that this has been in my inbox, i'm sorry! but i ADORE this!!!

they always pay a lot of attention to the two of you, and at first you think it's because they're not used to seeing the two of you together, or maybe that they're trying to pay extra close attention so that they have more things to tease steve about. it takes you a while to realize that, while they do ultimately like to give you both hell about how touchy and cheesy your relationship with steve is, they also have ulterior motives. endearing ulterior motives, it seems.

max and lucas come to you and steve separately after one of their many dramatic breakups, asking for advice on how to better communicate and listen to one another. this happens several times, and while it's almost amusing, you pitch the idea to steve that you should try to help them stabilize their relationship and so you try. thankfully, all it takes is a little patience and vulnerability, and the two are down from near weekly breakups to only an occasional argument.

the others seem to take notice of this, of the way that you somehow worked wonders for max and lucas's relationship, and so they're slowly but surely coming to the two of you, sometimes talking to the both of you at once.

dustin typically asks for advice on what to get suzie for her birthday or for how he should dress for their next date. however, after an incident of mismatched patterned shirt and pants, you came into the mix and made sure to give your little bits of input when you could. steve handled most things well, but you still wanted to make sure there were no other huge mishaps. dustin eventually starts going to you for some things, steve for others, and steve always gives you a mock pout of jealousy when he hears that dustin went to you for something and not him. it's all in good fun, though. in reality, it warms his heart to see that you're getting along so well with the kids.

as shy as el is, she comes to steve first about general knowledge about love in general. she knows a lot from what hopper and joyce and mike taught her, but she still sometimes doesn't truly understand things, so she tentatively asks him about it. you don't take it personal that she doesn't come to you often; she seems quite shy and reserved, and knowing how her childhood went has you completely understanding of why that would be the case. steve tells you one day that she says she admires you, thinks you're really pretty and funny but is hesitant to talk to you because she's still anxious about approaching others, and that is enough to make you smile. you try to approach her slowly, a smile here and there and a small conversation every once in a while, to try and show her that you reciprocate her compliments.

mike is an interesting story. he'll come to talk to you and steve at the same time, hiding his issues as random stories and complaints. the first time it happened, you were confused until steve told you that it was his way of getting things off his chest and showing that he trusted the two of you, whether he would admit it or not. so you always played along, almost gossiping with him so that he can have some peace of mind, and while mike could never admit it, he enjoys the way you match his sarcasm. it makes him feel a little more safe around you. (he still wonders how on earth you ended up with someone like steve, however. but even when he tells you that, the little smile at the edge of his lips tells you he isn't being genuine in his questioning).

will is the last to come to you. he's the only one to come to your first other than max, and you feel honored. he's shy and quiet like el, and while he continues to be that way the first time he comes to you, the times after that become more open. it's a little strange at first, because he seems timid and kind of scared, but just asks you on your opinion about whether you think d&d is a kids game or not. you have a sneaking suspicion someone said something rude to make him feel like maybe he's childish for liking what he does, and you're quick to reassure and defend him. he's then coming to you for just little things, such as talking about how his day went, and you slowly gain the understanding that he seems a little lonely. you try your best to help with that, including him in the group conversations and such. there's one night when he's talking to you alone in steve's kitchen after one of their sleepovers, and steve walks in and overhears a little bit of what's being said. you expect for will to freeze up and return to his timidity, but he doesn't. there's a moment of understanding, and you realize that he trusts steve too. it's a night like that, when he asks if he can come over to visit the two of you, that he says that he's different and sometimes he feels like he doesn't belong or isn't wanted, and without saying so many words, you both understand what he means. and so you do what you can, you both give him a hug, express your understanding of how he feels, and then steve suggests that the three of you go out for ice cream together.

i blame you for making me think about tommy and carol bc i've never really given them much thought before. they were clearly written to be these obnoxious high school stereotypes and not much more than that, so i love how you're looking through that and making them more dimensional. what do you think they'll grow up to be like? are they gonna leave hawkins after high school, will they stay there forever, will one of them leave while the other stays? will they grow apart after high school, or will they always keep that toxic codependency going? please gimme all your thoughts <3

ANNA! "i blame you for making me think of tommy and carol" are my FAVORITE words to hear sflkjgfdlkg that's like music to my ears. the more people i can get thinking deeper about tommy and carol the better fdkjgfl.

they fully were written to be those obnoxious high school bully stereotypes, but boy oh boy, there is SO much nuance in how the portrayals of these characters actually came across onscreen.

when i think of tommy and carol and their futures, i honestly can see things going a couple different ways - which mostly stems from the fact that there are a lot of little headcanon details about them i like to change up in my head that then directly impacts which route their futures would take (the biggest fluctuating details being their sexualities; how their future plays out will be fundamentally different to me if it's just tommy that's gay, if it's carol that's the lesbian, if they're both some flavor of fruity, or if neither of them are.)

if i sat here and went through each slightly different future i imagine for them we'd be here forever fkdljgfd sooooo for now i will just tell you about my personal favorite.

first, a little backstory because i think it's important to know where they came from to know why they are the way they are because that ultimately drives where they end up:

i personally like to think that tommy hagan comes from a big family - a big family of all girls, too. he's one of five, the middle child, with two older sisters and two younger sisters. i also like to think that his mom is a single mother - and when it comes to his dad, my hc isn't super nailed down for him. i do think he was there when tommy was younger, but his father left, maybe around when tommy was nine? ten? but either, his dad was cheating on his mom and ended up leaving her (and their kids) to be with this other woman (maybe because SHE got pregnant?) OR tommy's dad hit his mom, and that went on for long enough until she finally stood up and kicked him out. out of those two options though, i like to lean towards the first one, beeeeecaaaause it makes tommy's motivations and behaviors THAT much jucier sdlkfds. BECAUSE combine tommy's middle-child-syndrome with this early abandonment and of COURSE he's got issues. OF COURSE he has to find every way to get attention because he doesn't get enough of it at home and OF COURSE he gets upset and lashes out when people he's close to leave him because he's got abandonment issues (so when steve, his friend, his best friend, suddenly drops him and carol, of course tommy gets upset). also, random tidbit that didn't really fit in anywhere else dkfls but i think i mentioned it in my response on that initial post that started all this but i DO think tommy is an angry guy. BUT i do not think that manifests in the same way as it would for a lot of other guys. he's NOT outwardly angry all the time, he's NOT always looking to pick a fight, he's NOT a physically violent guy. i think his anger stems from very specific circumstances - i.e. circumstances where his control is slipping - and while he doesn't resort to physical violence (aside from maybe a shove here or there, because that's the most we ever see onscreen in a moment when he is genuinely upset and angry), he lashes out. verbally. he says MEAN shit - and because he's friends with carol, his tongue has sharpened over the years (and also, growing up with all sisters means he's well accustomed to the ways of female warfare lol - aka the vicious mind games and cruelty of the tongue that is more common than physical violence). SO that means he knows how to go for the jugular with just his words, and that, sometimes, can be even worse than a punch to the nose.

carol, on the other hand, i like to think also comes from a single mother household, but unlike tommy, she is an only child. i like to think that she and her mom moved to hawkins when she was... maybe 12 or 13, so middle school age. she wasn't super popular at her old school, is the thing. i don't think she was necessarily super bullied or anything, but she didn't really have a lot of friends and she probably didn't get a lot of attention either. so when she comes to hawkins, she sees it as a chance to reinvent herself. she doesn't let herself fall into that new girl trap, and she's outspoken from the get go - perhaps a little to her own detriment, because while she does make friends, they ALSO scares a lot of people off because of how cold she seems (which is ENTIRELY a self-preservation thing for her). and then somehow, someway she catches the attention of steve harrington. steve harrington, who, at this point, is already well on his way to being the golden boy King Steve that we see in high school. and she clings to that, because that's her ticket to the top. i think maybe she gets a little crush on steve at first - except it isn't actually a crush. she just likes what he can offer her - the popularity, the attention, the feeling of being needed, and she misreads that as having a crush on him. (and if you subscribe to the carol is a lesbian hc, which i sometimes do! this "crush" would be FULLY because that's what's expected of her; all the other girls like steve, all the other girls think he's hot and awesome and perfect, so that must mean she should to, right? - but that's a different future route that i'm not taking here so. putting this back on the shelf for now lol).

ANYWAYS. yeah so carol gets folded into steve and tommy's mix. she befriends them, she gets close with them, they become a trio. inseparable.

tommy and steve have been friends since grade school. maybe they were sat next to each other because their last names both start with H, maybe even as a small child steve already has lots of friends because he's nice and he shares his toys and he's got kids coming up to him all the time asking him if he wants to play and he always says yes. but then one day it's steve that's toddling up to tommy and asking him if he wants to play. steve chooses tommy. and the rest is history. and as they grow up, steve starts growing into his looks and he gets good at sports and joins all the teams and he excels, so he's got people fawning over him and flocking towards him for any sliver of attention he's willing to give them. but at the end of the day it's tommy that gets steve's full attention. it's tommy that steve tells everything to, it's tommy that knows steve best, it's tommy who steve trusts, it's tommy who is steve's best friend. and tommy REVELS in that. it's that attention he's been craving his whole life. this, naturally, leads to tommy feeling possessive over steve. and he doesn't realize that this possessiveness is a little more deeply rooted than just wanting to keep steve's friendship until steve starts to look at girls.

the first time tommy sees steve with a pretty girl on his arm, he gets this sick, curdled, twisting feeling in his gut. at first he thinks it's because he's jealous of steve. jealous that he has a date and tommy doesn't. but when steve comes back and tells tommy that it didn't work out, tommy gets this relief that floods through tommy. he doesn't really understand it at first, and definitely doesn't examine it too closely either, just sort of shoves it down deep and doesn't worry about it. but then steve finds another girl, and this time things DO go well, and, naturally, as steve's best friend, tommy becomes the person that steve tells everything to. he tells tommy all about the dates, all about the kisses he shares with these girls, all about when things go a little further... tommy listens, because of course he does, but the whole time he's thinking all these horrible thoughts about the girl and that ugly feeling is back knotting up his insides. and omg when steve tells tommy about losing his virginity - OH BOY. he goes into detail, because that's what teenage boys do, and tommy listens but he's sitting there with this whole STORM of emotions swirling through his head - the twisted need to know more, the urge to scream at steve to shut up, disgust because he doesn't want to think about steve with someone else, turned on because its steve talking about having sex, deep shame because hes forced to face the fact that he's wishing it was him with steve instead of that girl. this, perhaps, is even the first time tommy is like. FULLY faced with the true nature of his feelings, the ones he's been shoving away and ignoring this whole time.

i think tommy struggles with it. being gay (which he refuses to consider himself) is obviously not accepted in that time period. and he knows he'd get absolutely pummeled if anyone caught wind that he'd even thought about another boy like that. whiiiich is where carol comes in.

i think at this point tommy is probably already with carol - when steve started showing his interest in girls, tommy didn't want to get left in the dust, so he tried to find himself a girlfriend too, and it just so happened that carol was right there and it was so easy because carol was just so easy (WOMP). i like to think that maybe they started as a hookup. tommy wanted to lose his virginity, and carol was right there, and well, there were rumors about her, and all tommy had to do was ask, and she said yes, and then it sort of snowballs from there because (even though their first time was probably fumbling and not actually the greatest overall, tommy still liked it, and if he liked sex with a girl there's no way he's gay, right?) then he asks her out and she says yes again, and they start this relationship that maybe didn't really stem from any true feelings at first, but like they sort of caught the feelings along the way, like they learned to love each other along the way.

and the thing is - i do genuinely think that tommy and carol loved each other. i do. i don't think that their relationship wasn't real, even if tommy is actually gay. i think they had a lot of fun together, and i think that the feelings were there. they just weren't enough. because despite things going pretty well with carol, tommy was still thinking about steve. he was still actively having those feelings even while with carol. (which - maybe he was just projecting those feelings onto carol.) regardless, though, there is a love that exists between tommy and carol - i just think that over time it morphs into something different than what they both initially thought it was.

NOW. when it comes to their future (WHICH HELLO THIS IS WHAT YOUR ASK WAS ABOUT AND IM ONLY JUST NOW GETTING TO IT SKFJDS S O R R Y AND THANK YOU FOR STICKING WITH ME THROUGH ALL OF ^^^ THAT PREAMBLE SKDJFL)

since we are talking about my favorite potential future for them, it looks a little something like this:

they stay together. all through high school. when steve leaves them, things get a little rocky between tommy and carol, because steve was the glue that held them together, ultimately. but they both sort of realize that they're all each other has left, now that steve's gone, so they temper things. they marry out of high school - or that's when tommy proposes anyways, because tommy's barely three quarters of the way through his first year of community college when there's a pregnancy scare (which - honestly, everyone's surprised that didn't happen earlier) but yeah, carol's late, and when she pees on the stick it's positive. when she tells tommy, tommy proposes - because that's the right thing to do. he's not going to ditch her, he's not going to make her do that on her own. carol says yes, because what other option does she have here? but when they actually go to the doctor about it, they find out that the test was a false positive; carol is not pregnant. they stay engaged though, carol still wore her ring, and tommy stayed with carol, and neither one of them said anything about it. they followed through with it three years later after tommy graduated with a business degree and a cushy job at carol's dad's company.

at this point, they've known each other for almost a decade, and they've been together for most of it. so they know each other pretty well. which means - carol knows about tommy's... interests. she's fully aware. has been since high school, actually. she clocked tommy's crush on steve reeeeal quick, and actually confronted him about it once - which forced tommy into a corner and when he'd tried to deny it she's just scoffed and told him to quit fucking hiding from it. and he did. he'd admitted it to her, which was still difficult for him, but he'd gotten a bit better about admitting it to himself over the years. and in response to it, carol told him she didn't care.

which was really the best god damn way it could've gone. she told tommy that she didn't care that he gets off to guys, that she didn't care that he thinks about them, that he wants them. in fact, she told tommy that she didn't even care if he wanted to fuck around with them on the side. so long as he came back to her in the end, she didn't care.

and so, most nights tommy will slip off his wedding ring, he'll make the drive to whatever innocuous city is far enough away that he wont run into anyone he knows, and he'll seek out the company of other men. and when he's had his fill for the night, when he's satisfied that itch, he'll drive back to hawkins, and he'll try to be quiet as he enters the house and changes into his pajamas, and then he'll slide into bed next to carol and he'll go to sleep.

it's... it sounds like a pretty miserable existence, the two of them trapped in this seemingly unhappy marriage. but it's actually not. not really. it works for them. like i said before, they do love each other. it's just not that same sort of love that was there when they were kids, when they first started out. it's changed, it's morphed, it's turned into something more familial, rather than romantic.

maybe one day they will finally move out of hawkins. maybe that will be the beginning of the end. maybe once they're out from underneath the thumb of the town they grew up in, out from underneath the pressure of playing the expected role for all the people they knew there, they can start to live their own lives. maybe they'll finally get a divorce. maybe tommy will finally outwardly acknowledge his sexuality. maybe carol will finally find something she's good at and thrive with it. maybe maybe maybe.

FIN. skfjgdlkf. omg if you've made it this far THANK YOU for sticking with me and reading through all my rambling headcanons. i really mean it when i say i think about tommy and carol and their lives ALL THE TIME dkfsdlf. and like i said at the beginning, this is just ONE of the many pathways i've thought of for them sklfjsdf.

Some Wayne Munson hcs about Steddie relationship

We all know Wayne loves Eddie as his child since they appeared on the door of his trailer. Eddie was always welcomed and accepted without matter if they were gay, or he, or she, or anything they were. In the end, they were Eddie Munson, his nephew. The kid who talked in Spanish the first months just to make it hard for Wayne and got surprised when he replied in their language. Maybe that cheap dictionary and the help of his coworkers helped a little. He still had to learn one or two things with this new kid.

But still, he accepts them & tries his best to support them in many things. Wanna play guitar until 2 am? fine, just not that loud for the neighbors to come angry. There's a comic you can't find here? let me find it in Indy on the next trip. Wanna be called she/them? I will do it without a problem. Want to cook some Mexican dishes because suddenly you crave them at 4 am? Ammm... Yeah but remember I can't eat that much cheese, kid.

For Wayne is completely normal Eddie would come one day with a big smile and red cheeks and he will be happy to ask what's going on. Because Wayne knows Eddie deserves the best, he deserves a man that makes him happy & lets him be himself. At least he deserves his first romance even if it is in a little town. So he is happy when Eddie gets all shy & Wayne jokes around about him finding his Ozzy. Eddie laughs.

Because he did find someone as metal as Ozzy but not in the way Wayne thought about. And his face changed when he heard the name. STEVE HARRINGTON?

Doesn't help either that at the time Eddie disappeared and finished in the hospital all fucked up, Steve Harrington was around. Wayne does remember those days, being in the hospital, and how these kids and new friends would visit Eddie. It wasn't weird for Eddie to take younger weirdos, freaks, and outcasts under his wing, but for sure Steve Harrington didn’t fit that. He was in the hospital too, and at the moment he could leave… he still came back to visit and help Eddie. But Wayne kept alert. 

Steve can see how dry Wayne talks with him or how he change his tone and expression when is around the hospital room. He is always "Steve Harrington" with a big emphasis on HARRINGTON. The rich s.o.b guy lives in the fancy zone and didn’t care about the other people in the town. For sure not people like the Munson. So he thinks is weird when Steve offers his help to take care of Eddie while he is at work, how he hears the nurses talking sweet words on how thoughtful he is to help them clean Eddie’s wounds and body. Doesn’t help either that part of the town still hates them, and Steve is openly there with them without matter.

Wayne frowns and decides not to accept Steve’s pity or whatever he is doing, but he can’t help to rethink when he arrives with groceries, because he knows Wayne has no time between the hospital, the legal issues, and his job. Also, the last time he went to the store, it was uncomfortable to have eyes and gossip around. He can’t help to just call him ‘Steve’ from time to time when he helps around the new trailer, the hospital drives, and how much he cares about Eddie.

And even more when he is always around to help a weak Eddie that woke up from a coma. Steve would come with groceries, help clean and cook around, almost making himself part of the family of two, just being out when he needed to take care of the other kids and his new job. Wayne frowns at him from time to time and still talks with Eddie about being careful because the Harringtons aren’t that great.

But that day that Eddie arrives all red and on the clouds, he has to reassure him, Steve is a good guy and maybe there's something between them. And yes there's something between them that gets formal weeks later. And Steve tries his best. Always polite, always sure not to cross lines with a joke or even just wait in the car for Eddie. But little by little he wins Wayne's respect and Eddie helps with it.

Eddie talks out loud about their dates with Steve when eating dinner with Wayne. Eddie tells him how Steve drives the kids and Robin around. How he helps them with projects and school, and how he cares about Max as a big brother. How he and Dustin are always messing around as if they were brothers too. Wayne can’t ignore how Eddie’s face glows when he talks about Steve, in the same way as they talk about music, their books, and about those D&D campaigns. And like the last one, he can’t understand but he knows that makes them happy. And, honestly, if Eddie is happy, what else fucking matters?

Wayne realizes this Eddie with more friends and a boyfriend is one of the best versions of themselves. One version he wants to keep watching, growing, and being better. Who knows if this relationship with Steve will keep going for years or will be for some months, at least Eddie is happy and full of energy, being their real self.

That’s why that winter weekend when Steve is waiting in the car, Wayne opens the door of the trailer to go and knock on the window.

“Oh, sorry, sir? Should I move?” Steve asks and Wayne laughs because his face is full of fear of fucking up something.

“Sir? I’m not that old, kiddo.” Wayne opens the door. “Listen, Mister Edward there is taking their sweet time so, wanna come in for a hot cup of coffee?”

He would love to laugh at Steve’s expression, how he almost hits himself because of the nervous feeling of being invited inside by Wayne.

“Of course, sir…”

“Sir again? I will let you out in the cold if you call me sir again.” he laughs, opening the door. “How do you take your coffee, Steve?”

If this guy makes Eddie happy, he for sure deserves the respect he has winning little by little, showing that he isn’t Steve Harrington. He is just Steve, and that makes the young man smile widely, hearing a different tone and a homely invitation to sit on the sofa.

And yeah, maybe later on he would be called son. But for now, that’s a win.

listen i'm a certified freak seven days a week now re: trucker au so if you still feel like doing hcs, i'd love to hear any for that universe that you feel like sharing.....

Oh, I'm salivating for this ask, and I'm going to do my best to answer without getting into anything super spoiler-y. Some of this may make it into the fic eventually, but a lot of it's just stuff I have crammed in my head when I'm writing.

Eddie first ended up living with Wayne when he was 7-8, when his dad wasn't capable of taking care of him. His dad has been back in the picture a couple of times, in and out of prison, and is currently serving a decently long stint. Eddie has a complicated relationship with him, as does Wayne, who will always put his brother up when he comes around, even if he feels more like Eddie's father than his real father ever will.

Jason proposed to Chrissy the summer between the end of senior year and the start of college. Chrissy didn't want her mother to ruin a wedding, so they ended up quasi-eloping (in that they had their friends around, but no family except Chrissy's little brother). In other words, she wanted to marry him, and loved him at the time.

Eddie's sort-of friends with Steve Harrington, or at least they're at the "sup, bro" level of friendship, because in this non-Vecna world, Steve and Nancy kept dating long enough that they'd sometimes pick Mike up from Hellfire. When Steve started working at Family Video, before Eddie graduated, they'd shoot the shit about movies, and Eddie finds he can deal with the "sad townie" version of Steve way more than King Steve from school. I have no idea if this will make it into the story or not, but Eddie has Steve's number in his wallet in case he ever needs someone to check on Wayne (which Wayne would find extremely annoying).

Chrissy was accepted to two different colleges but followed Jason to his, instead. (She'd applied there, but didn't get in.) Her intention was to go to a nearby community college and then transfer, but she never actually started classes. For reasons that play into some plot stuff later on.

Pre-Chrissy, Eddie spent a lot of nights fiddling with his guitar, and that's not a euphemism. He misses playing in a band, so he'll sometimes noodle around with his acoustic at a picnic table, just to see if there's another troubadour on the road who might come over and play with him. His best night was at a rest area in Mississippi where he swears to God the ghost of Robert Johnson came out of an 18-wheeler and played the fiddle with him, but in truth it was just a guy named Ricky who's really fucking good at fiddling, man.

Chrissy genuinely cannot differentiate between her burgeoning attraction to Eddie and how safe he makes her feel, so she gets her wires crossed about what's normal and allowed. Hence the climbing into bed with him. Not that that's not NORMAL, but she does it because he makes her feel safe, not because she's thinking of it as sexual. And oh, boy, is Eddie gonna have his work cut out for him when it comes to that little bundle of issues.

1. Do they get together before the mindflayer possessed Billy or after shit goes down (or maybe during😲)? Hhhhmmm. I want to say after. Steve takes Max to the hospital and often ends up going in with her. That’s how they get to know each other :)

2. Who kisses who first? Billy. Definitely. Bc lil stevie doesn’t quite have his sexuality figured out until the kiss and then when it happens it all clicks. 

3. Where do they have their first sex? (Location) (HJs and BJs count) I want to say in the hospital lol. Because billys in long term care and he gets antsy and a few months after they get together Steve ends up riding him on the hospital bed. The nurses end up catching them because they heard the heart monitor going crazy. 

4. Who says 💖 I love you 💖 first? I think steve does, I like to think Billy has some issues saying it but he tries very hard to show it.

5. Bottom!Steve or bottom!Billy? Bottom steve, sorry y'all. Although I do think billy sometimes wants to get fucked and steve happily obliges 

6. Do they give gifts to each other? Yes. Steve is a gift giver. He makes billy bracelets and earrings, and billy likes to pay for things when he can :)

7. Where do they end up living? California, Chicago, Hawkins… idk. Alaska?? Any other location? I enjoy the fics where they end up in cali just because I feel like that’s where they’d be the happiest

8. What are their future jobs? I see mechanic billy definitely, but I can also see social worker billy. I can really see teacher steve, maybe art or english? I can see him really understanding the kids who have trouble in school, like he did.

9. Who’s a better cook? I want to say steve because I love the idea of lonely steve learning how to cook because he needs to feed himself. So because of that he gets really good. I dont think billy would be bad at cooking though. He just wouldn’t have the variety that steve does

10. Steve Hargrove or Billy Harrington? Oh god. I dont know. I think they mash them up Billy and Steve Harringrove. Mr. and Mr.

11. What’s Max’s reaction when she hears they’re together? She already knew. She knows all. I think she’d be fine with it, but in the annoying little sister way. Teasing both of them when they make the other blush, and gagging when they’re cutesy.

12. Describe in one sentence Hopper’s reaction when he hears the names Hargrove and Harrington mentioned together? He’d grimace, but only because he’s heard the noises Steve makes sometimes and can only imagine the cacophony they create.

13. Does Robin like Billy or does Robin hate Billy? Mmm. She definitely does NOT like him at first. Buuuttt once she finds out he’s gay and they’re being gay together she’s all for it.  

14. What about Dustin? Dustin would feel betrayed at first. He definitely wouldn’t trust billy for a while. But once he saw them together he’d roll his eyes and say an exasperated “okay.”

15. Fave harringrove AU? Oof. I have no idea. I can’t pick just one 16. Billy + Camaro =…? His soulmate (Yknow, besides steve)

HC: robin + potential career paths!

            so I really want to talk about this because unfortunately I feel like it’s made very unclear by canon exactly what Robin’s plans are for the future, despite the fact that she is in her senior year in season 4 just like Nancy and Jonathan. we hear that Eddie plans to finally graduate in ‘86, we know that Nancy and Jonathan have that tension over which colleges they plan to go to after they graduate, but what of Robin? 

            this is obviously a sign in itself that I think Robin doesn’t really know what she wants to do with her life in terms of a career: she is not driven or ambitious in the same way that Nancy is, to make an obvious comparison between both girls, and her character is not centred on her future but on her present, working with Steve at Family Video, and her relationships ( i.e. her crush on Vickie ). but it is important not to forget that despite her neuro-divergent coding, particularly in s4, she is still very intelligent! she cracked the Russian code in s3, she can speak four languages ( and we know from Rebel Robin that she took the time to learn those languages herself, outside of the school curriculum, which I will come back to in a moment ), she has very engaged and sophisticated discussions with her English teacher, Mr. Hauser, in the Rebel Robin podcast about works of classic literature like Frankenstein and 1984, and she is said in the book to be a student who coasts along with good grades in her sophomore year but fears putting the effort in to become known as an overachiever and therefore stand out from the crowd ( something which I’m sure she fixes going forward into her junior and senior year once she becomes more comfortable in her own skin ).

           I think Robin’s issue, and why she is noticeably bright but no mention is made of college plans by her or others in s4, is that she doesn’t like working or learning within the rigid education system. she talks to Mr. Hauser a lot in the podcast about reading books outside of the syllabus, as I said above she makes the decision to learn different languages in her own time because Hawkins doesn’t offer any foreign language provision. in Rebel Robin in particular, I think she sees the education system as just an extension of the Hawkins monster --- something that swallows people up in this town and turns them into small-minded sheep that follow the crowd and don’t challenge or question the world around them. she doesn’t see any challenge in the school curriculum that is offered and, more importantly, she doesn’t see herself represented in anything that she learns --- where is the small town lesbian in her English literature texts? where is the history of the LGBT+ movement and the Stonewall riots in her history lessons? these are all things that bother her and frustrate her about her school education.

            academic study also doesn’t necessarily suit her or her learning style either: Robin is someone who is fiercely motivated when she is focused on or learning about something she enjoys or finds interesting. the education system is not necessarily friendly to this idea: even at college / university level, there is still an element of having to read and study what is on the syllabus, even though Robin would no doubt find greater freedom for example in pursuing a humanities-based subject and being able to write essays on what she finds interesting about a particular novel or subject.

            so when it comes to advancing to college level study, I think Robin would have to weigh up the limitations of continuing with a rigid education structure, with the most obvious benefit of her of going to college: getting out of Hawkins. applying to a college out of state and making that move is the easiest way for her to leave ( she just has to ensure that both she and Steve have the money that Steve could come with her, because she would never leave without him ), and being in a university environment away from Hawkins in a big city gives her the chance to broaden her horizons while still having the safety net of being a part of a college community.

           there is also her mom, who as we know puts a lot of pressure on Robin within her canon, and I think she would push for Robin to go to college in order to secure a future for herself regardless of what Robin actually wanted. with this pressure and the benefits of leaving Hawkins to an out of state college, I do think Robin would likely go to college post-canon and had likely filled in her applications and was waiting for her acceptance letter in the same way that Nancy and Jonathan were. whether she could actually settle on a major to study or stick out college for the long term is debatable in my opinion: I think this all depends on whether Robin is able to figure out what she wants to do and what she is most passionate about while there. otherwise I could just see her going through the motions, much like she did at school, until a better opportunity that wasn’t academic-based came up and actually gave her practical experience and a chance to learn something she felt strongly about. 

           once she gets to the city, too, I can see her horizons and potential for herself opening up to the point where, unless she needed a college education to attain a certain career path she’d set her sights on, strict education would probably no longer be necessary for her. college could therefore just function as a springboard for Robin to something better.

            but what would this something better be? I have a few ideas for what I believe Robin would enjoy or be good at, but obviously this is subject to change or revision depending on where she lands at the very end of the show:

private investigator:

                this is the career path I could see most suiting Robin at this point in time. Robin threw herself into the Russian espionage plot in s3 and really enjoyed getting to apply her mind to something that required her to make connections and figure things out. she not only was able to translate the Russian code despite not actually knowing or speaking the language, but she was also resourceful enough to seek out the blueprints for Starcourt Mall to allow the Scoops Troop a safe way in through the vents. then in s4 she was paired with Nancy which allowed Robin to continue with her love of problem-solving and thinking outside of the box as they investigated the Victor Creel lead. Robin was the one who persevered with the Weekly Watcher reel even when Nancy dismissed it; Robin was the quick-thinker who spoke up in her passionate rant to grant the two of them access to Creel’s cell; Robin was the one who made the connection between the music Victor was listening to at the time of being trapped in his son’s trance, and how he survived the encounter, and was ultimately the one to save Max. 

           Robin enjoys problem solving, has a very Sherlockian approach that can be unorthodox at times but always works, and contributes so much to the brains of the Hawkins group. being a private investigator who works on a contract basis also gives her the chance to help others in need too, particularly those who might have been let down by the authorities, and the freedom to work when she wants to. she would be self-employed and I think that would suit her a lot better than to answer to a superior.

tour guide:

             this is more of a stop-gap job role, perhaps a job that she gets once she’s out living in a big city and working towards something more, but is something that I equally think Robin would enjoy. we know Robin loves languages and loves soaking up culture: she could take on this role once she’s established in a big city like NYC or Chicago to help show tourists around, and with the ability to speak several foreign languages she would be a huge asset to that role too and could relate to others in their own tongues. this also would help her meet new people from all walks of life and different countries around the world. alternatively, if Robin was to realise her dreams of visiting or even moving to Europe, she could take on a similar sort of role there.

forensic psychologist:

              this is more of a niche job role that would likely involve a college education and further training, but I always think back to her rant to the asylum director and how much conviction she puts into the line “and learn a little bit more about how his twisted, but let’s face it, totally fascinating mind works.” combine that with Robin’s offhand comment earlier in the season that “serial killers stalk their victims before they strike” and I think it’s clear that her rant was not completely an act. it was based in a lot of truth: I think Robin does find the minds of killers and psychopaths and of those who are not the “norm” fascinating in terms of how these people tick, and it relates to the idea that in order to solve a crime or find a killer, you have to understand how the killer or criminal’s mind works first. Robin no doubt watches a lot of true crime documentaries and would read a lot of Weekly Watcher esque articles, so I think she would enjoy a career that was focused on the psychology of those who had committed criminal offences and then aiding with rehabilitation, once again being able to help people and make a difference.

location manager or other role related to film:

             last but not least, this role would combine two of Robin’s interests: film and travel. I could personally see Robin taking on a variety of roles within the film industry ( purely behind the camera though, I don’t think she would ever want to be on camera ), and maybe even becoming a hot shot indie film director one day, but being a location manager would combine that love of film ( since it was clearly Robin’s idea to apply to Family Video, not Steve’s lmao ), with her desire to travel. she would get to travel the world locating ideal sets for the films she was working on and then get to negotiate contracts for the terms of the shoot.

sorry as someone with chronic migraines I really love this hc so I'm going to send one more then I promise I'll stop. steve getting a really sudden one while in gym, hes in a middle of a one-mile so hes already out of breath and a little dizzy, he stumbles for a moment before completely passing out, imagine when billy sees this from across the track and comes sprinting to his side.

maybe not in gym class specifically, but in hot weather or when he over exerts himself.

but the first time it happens in gym, spring has just rolled into hawkins, indiana and there is pollen everywhere.

but halfway through the second lap, steve’s lungs start burning. the cold air and quick breaths aren’t working in his favor.

his slower breaths in attempt to retain more heat lead to lack of oxygen in his head for how much energy he’s exerting.

steve thinks he blacked out for a second because the second that he opens his eyes (and closes them a millisecond later because the sun is bright) he sees billy’s curls around his head, illuminated like a halo.

steve can feel the heartbeat behind his eyes and hear the echoing of blood pumping in his ears and knows that his migraine just hit.

he barely hears—what he assumes to be—billy worrying over him.

he feels himself get picked up partially, using billy’s strong build as more of a crutch as he bows his head in attempt to block the sun, and he’s groaning in pain.

“i know, i know, i’m just trying to get you inside,” billy says softly and steve hears the chatter of the teacher and remaining class fade off as they walk to the school.

they finally get through the doors and go through another door (that, just by the smell, steve can tell is the locker room).

billy places steve on one of the benches between the rows of lockers and then leaves his side, and the lights go out.

“thank you,”

billy can tell from just the thanks that it was difficult for steve to get out.

he was still panting a bit and his eyes still weren’t opened. he had moved himself off the bench to he floor where he went into the fetal position.

billy fumbled around a locker for a moment before coming back to steve.

billy sat on the bench behind him, thighs pressing against steve’s shoulders (to ground him and get him to feel safe) as he ran his fingers through steve’s hair.

after relaxing steve and getting him calmer, he gave him the water bottle and pills he’d gotten out of his locker and got steve to take them.

“did you...”

“i kept a few of them in my gym locker in case something happened. lucky i did, huh?”

steve squinted his eyes and a side of his lips lifted, but he didn’t have enough energy to really respond.

they sat in the dark locker room for 45 minutes, five minutes until the period ended, then billy got steve to put on a sweatshirt over his shirt and walked him out to his car to drive him home.

billy couldn’t explain how cute steve looked all sleepy-like, waddling on uneven feet in two jackets and a beanie, even if he wasn’t feeling the greatest.

billy was never happier to have to take care of someone, cause he’d take care of steve every day of his life.
