my therapist: how are you feeling in the wake of your (autism spectrum disorder) diagnosis?

me: well it makes sense doesn’t it? i was the one who requested testing. like on some level i kind of figured.

my therapist: yes, i’m personally glad we pursued it because it helps me better understand parts of your behavior and how to accommodate you. but how do you feel about it? you said before that you were in heavy denial about the possibility when you were younger.

me: well yeah, i had a preconceived idea of what autism was that i know now wasn’t true. but at the time it was distressing and i didn’t want to think about it too hard.

my therapist: how was it different then? what was your idea of autism then?

me: it was, you know, severe developmental delay. i never thought i had developed abnormally at all, so to try and match up the severity i associated with autism and the way i viewed myself, i just couldn’t.

my therapist: but you did.

me: sorry?

my therapist: you did develop abnormally. both socially and academically.

me: socially yes, but i had no problems with academics. i always especially excelled at reading comprehension, more so than anyone else in my grade. i started lagging in high school but i think that was a lot of burnout and depression and ptsd, probably. i was incredibly smart. hell, i spoke in full sentences earlier than most of my peers.

my therapist: violette, that’s still abnormal development.

me: …huh?

my therapist: developing abnormally fast is still developing abnormally.

me:

[this post is about the succession SEASON ONE finale bc I’m ten years behind]

anyway like the way denial was the emotional undercurrent of everything in this episode…. starting with tom telling greg to shut up so he can block out the truth of shiv’s infidelity, to roman and the launch and just immediately shutting it off and pretending like it didn’t happen, and us as the viewer feeling the absolute horror realizing that people could have DIED, and seeing the utter disconnect in Roman, watching a livestream on his phone like it’s a video game, going back into this huge fucking party, the party itself being the physical place to symbolize the utter isolation and social disconnection of the filthy rich from the rest of the world. the tension building while we’re like jesus christ did he fucking kill people?? and then he finds out oh no, it’s just two thumbs and an arm, what a RELIEF, and we as the viewer vicariously accepting that relief as a lesser horror while still seeing the horror. the way it mirrors the horror of the first episode when roman rips up a fucking MILLION DOLLAR check in front of a poor kid. reminding us that while we might relate to their human foils and emotions, the absolute SCALE of their faults and ignorances have such massive, unfathomable consequences by virtue of their power. and then you have. fucking kendall. and the kid in the car. and it’s the exact same situation. and the thing that makes it so fucking VISCERAL is that it doesn’t jump cut to the next day. we stay with him the whole fucking time as he walks away from that scene. we watch him break back into his hotel, wash himself like fucking lady macbeth. make his way back to the party. dance with his fucking kids. the dissonance is so fucking strong. it’s like coming back to omelas after seeing the tortured child. what can you do but pretend? and tell me you haven’t fucking been there before. tell me you haven’t been at that party, where something horrible and unspeakable is happening inside of you but you have to dance and smile anyway. we all know what it’s like to be in denial. it’s human. and yet the consequences of these people’s denial, by virtue of their power, is so vast and sickening, that it becomes inhuman. they’re not inherently evil people, but the circumstances of their wealth and privilege takes their shortcomings and corrupts them into poison and bombs. all of that accumulating to logan psychologically exploiting kendall in his moment of trauma, kendall breaking down and crying like a kid, and of course he would, ANYONE would, but he’s not anyone, these people aren’t anyone. I don’t mean they’re not human, I mean the opposite. they are human children playing an elaborate game of pretend with the rest of the fucking world as their dolls. they’re not masterminds. they’re toddlers demanding to be loved and blowing shit up in the process. and it’s easy to watch and say, wow that is so fucked up. but who am I if I act like I can fully separate myself from this story and be like “welp, anyway! back to bed!” without recreating that same denial? who are any of we to act like we’re not in some way complicit to the horror of the world when in order to function and live our lives we have to completely compartmentalize the part of our brain that comprehends the news? I’m not saying a normal person is in any way shape or form as responsible as a billionaire, nor am I saying there’s any moral answer to this. I’m just saying……….. fuck

Adam failed as a prophet by failing to tell his wife what she needed to pursue holiness (Genesis 3:17). Adam failed as a priest because he disqualified himself from tending the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:24). The word עבד used in Genesis 2:5, 15 to describe Adam tending the Garden is used through the rest of the Old Testament to describe priestly duties. Adam failed as a king because by failing to subdue the serpent, over whom he had been given dominion (Genesis 1:28). This word for dominion רדה is used of kings in 1 Kings 4:24, and of other political leaders elsewhere.

Jesus is a prophet (Acts 3:22-23, 7:51-53). He satisfied the qualifications for this office during His earthly ministry (Matthew 10:40-41, 13:57, Mark 6:4, Luke 4:24, 13:33, John 4:19). He succeeded where Adam failed by telling His wife, who is the church, all she needs to pursue holiness (Ephesians 5:23, 2 Corinthians 11:1-2, Matthew 28:19-20). Jesus is a priest (Hebrews 5:5-6, 7:11-17, 21, 24, 10:19-21, 1 Peter 2:4-5). If one understands the Epistle to the Hebrews in conjunction with Psalm 110:1-4, Acts 2:34-35, and Matthew 26:64, one necessarily comes to the conclusion that He satisfied the qualifications for this office no later than Pentecost. He succeeded where Adam failed by tending to the church, which is His temple (2 Corinthians 6:16). Jesus is a king (Acts 5:31, 17:6-7, 1 Corinthians 15:25, Colossians 1:9-17, Titus 6:13-16, 2 Peter 1:11, Revelation 1:5, 2:10, 11:15, 19:15). He satisfied the qualifications for this office at His birth (Matthew 2:2, Luke 1:32-33), and He is stated to be a king elsewhere during His earthly ministry (Matthew 21:5, 28:18, Luke 1:33, John 1:49, 12:14-15, 18:33-37). He succeeded where Adam failed because the serpent is now powerless, weak, and left plotting in vain (Hebrews 2:14-15, Revelation 12:9, 17-16).

This is why Paul calls Jesus the "last Adam" (1 Corinthians 15:45-47).

Futurism detracts from the prophethood of Jesus. By denying the Olivet Discourse has been fulfilled, opponents of Christ can point to the His most important prophecy unrelated to His resurrection as false. Bertrand Russel did exactly that, focusing on Matthew 24:34. He was not mistaken. The use of "this generation" here doubtless corresponds with the same phrase used in Matthew 11:16, 23:13-39, Mark 8:12, Luke 7:31-32, 11:29, 50-51, 17:25. Premillennialism detracts from the priesthood of Jesus. He, being permanently in the Melchizedek priesthood, will be enthroned at the right hand of the Father until his enemies are vanquished (Psalm 110:1-4). His last enemy is death (1 Corinthians 5:25-26). If one insists that death will continue for 1000 years or more after Second Coming, one necessarily insists that Jesus' priesthood will be suspended without Biblical precedent. Premillennialism detracts from the kingship of Jesus. He is the subject of Psalm 2, according to Acts 4:25-28 and Revelation 19:15. Jesus as king has been given the nations, in accordance with Psalm 2:8 and Matthew 28:18, so Satan cannot rule while Jesus rules with a rod of iron in Psalm 2:9. The kingship of Christ is the prerequisite for the Great Commission. "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit," so anyone who believes Satan rules this world and still evangelizes is disobeying the Great Commission.

To believe that Christ is the last Adam, to believe that He has succeeded in every office where Adam failed, to believe an inextricable link between the offices, and to tell others about Him requires that He made accurate predictions of the future which have come to past, that He will serve as priest until death is no more, and that He rules this world we live in right now. I affirm this with every fiber of my being. Do you?

PAPA NIHIL: is possibly the most confused out of all of them but will smile and nod and listen as best he can! i think he would appreciate the storytelling but there's just Too Much stuff to keep track of for him. but he would be very curious about like, custom homebrewed (i think that's the term for it) campaigns. ("could you make one about lucifer? would that be possible?")

PAPA I: admires your enthusiasm! though he doesn't know as much about D&D specifically, he's enjoyed fantasy as a genre since he was a child, growing up with the hobbit and lord of the rings. he's an incredibly patient man, having no problem asking questions about things he may not understand, and is always happy to indulge in your interests. though he may not enjoy playing D&D as much as he'd enjoy writing campaigns, he would be honored to play with you regardless!!

PAPA II: he's never been as into fantasy as his older brother, so initially while he's not dismissive, you can tell he's not super interested by the concept. that is until, you get into the battle and RPG elements. holy shit, you've never seen him be this excited about anything ever??? you convince him (more like he convinces you) to join your next campaign, and he comes up with his own character and everything! he likes the math and the development of characters a lot and after you finish the session for the day, he tells you not to tell terzo about this because, in his words, he'd be crucified. you're just happy to share D&D with him

PAPA III: is definitely a little overwhelmed and confused by the whole idea, but he's the kind of person to always try something at least once to see if he likes it! especially considering it's so important to you. like primo, he loves how happy you get just talking about it, so of course after you explain everything, he'd love to join your campaign if you ask! you just... might need to take things a little slower with him, what with his short as fuck attention span LOL. i think he'd make playing D&D a hoot, honestly. he'd be flirting with all the characters (and you)

PAPA IV/COPIA: dude. this guy fucking LOVES D&D are you shitting me??? you don't have to explain jackshit to him because he actually might know more than you. he's played it since he was a teenager!! when he finds out you like it as well, you don't think he's ever been more ecstatic - not many others in the church were ever as enthusiastic about it as he was. he jokes that you two are like a fantasy-loving match made in heaven :)
