So read that Rise of Kylo Ren comic a bit ago. Was pretty good but can I just say this little inclusion at the end here sucks and I hate it?
"See actually the real reason Kylo Ren's lightsaber looks like that is to diffuse the heat from his unstable kyber crystal so it's actually practical-"
No! Shut up! Zip it! Kylo Ren is a 30 year old teenager LARPing as his own edgy sith OC and the entirety of his thought process when designing his ridiculous crossguard lightsaber was 'hehe, this'll look so cool. They'll all take me seriously now.' It was a pitch perfect bit of visual characterisation that needed absolutely no further explanation. And you gave it one. And you ruined it.
Still baffles me how so many large creators in the fandom are still saying that Ben Solo destroyed the Jedi temple and everything Luke created. Like at most he unintentionally summoned that lightning in a moment when he was fearful and Palpatine was manipulating him.
I just NEED everyone to agree with me that Rey's parents are nobody. We should all agree about that. We should collectively, as an audience, say, "clearly the best idea was to have Kylo Ren be a dynastic heir to the major legends of the Force who wants to throw off his family's shadow, while his rival is nobody from nowhere who wants to belong--so we're going to stick with that."
And then, what should have happened is, Rey can finish her story by being able to say, "My parents might have abandoned me, but that doesn't mean I'm worthless." And eventually Kylo Ren can say, "My family might have been powerful, but I don't have to be," and all those other things that they can bounce off of each other as great foils.
It can keep being a good story about accepting past failures and choosing to grow beyond them.
Let's just all collectively ignore Rey Skypatine because of how silly that was. I mean. If they can just ignore the setups in the previous movie, we can ignore their choices in the conclusion. Right?? Right? Tell me I'm right

another thing we don’t talk about enough: when we first see poe he hasn’t gotten the scar on his cheek yet and as the films progress we get to watch it heal and fade and i so fucking appreciate how much attention was put into this little detail and i think it only adds to his character. it’s just another mark the war left on him, a constant reminder of what he went through))))):
"We did one without [a kiss]. Hilariously, Adam had to wrap and literally got up from that scene, which was so emotional and everything, and was like, 'Bye guys! I'm going to New York.' I feel like we all— it felt earned. And what was interesting again is intentionality. My feeling in that moment was it was a goodbye. So that felt earned. Because you can call a kiss a thousand things, but I felt it was a goodbye. And that whole scene felt so emotional. I felt I was saying goodbye to the job. And then, actually, we had to pick-up something that was missed. So on my very, very last day — and we were doing various pick-ups and stuff — I had to literally sit and look when the camera was coming away from me, and I guess I was looking at him [Ben]. J.J. [Abrams] was like, 'you good?' Literally, immediately started crying my eyes out because it really felt like goodbye."
