Wanted to share two recordings of something I am very proud to have been a part of.

Back in April, Princeton Brass Band traveled down to Huntsville Alabama to compete at the 2023 North American Brass Band Championships.

The above recording is Philip Sparke's "Year of the Dragon," which was the 'set piece' for the First Section. Below is another Sparke piece, "Variations on an Enigma," which was the band's 'own choice' selection.

Wait crying again bc I was rewatching The Intruder today (episode 4 of season 1) and I realized that like. The glyphs represent a few things in the narrative but one thing that's consistent is they're always there when Luz doesn't feel like she's good enough on her own. They appear to her as comfort in moments of self depreciation or self doubt, or she coincidentally learns them in episodes where she faces her fear of rejection or makes a mistake (at least this is true in terms of the first four base glyphs she discovers). It's the titans way of saying "you may have to do things differently, but you can do anything they can do" to Luz bc he cares about her

AND THEN. IN WATCHING AND DREAMING. WHEN THE TITAN PASSES ON AND THE GLYPHS DON'T WORK ANYMORE. IT'S BECAUSE NOW LUZ FINALLY FEELS LIKE SHE'S GOOD ENOUGH, ALL ON HER OWN. SHE'S LEARNED THAT SHE HAS INTRINSIC WORTH AS A PERSON AND SHE DOESN'T NEED TO MAKE UP FOR WHO SHE IS. SHE MIGHT DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY BUT SHE CAN DO EVERYTHING ANOTHER WITCH CAN DO- THIS TIME WITH HER OWN, MORE PERSONAL ACCESSIBILITY TOOL (HER PALISMEN) INSTEAD OF THE ONE THE TITAN GAVE HER. the salem witch trials, though famous, was not the first witch hunt/trials to happen in the american colonies. the first was in connecticut, called the connecticut witch trials or the hartford witch trials and took place between the 1640’s to the 1660’s, roughly 30yrs before the salem witch trials. (before that, there was the european witch trials that took place around 1563.)

Alse Young was the first recorded person executed in connecticut. influenza swept her hometown of windsor, and her husband — John Young — was probably eligible to inherit some big bucks, making her a bigger target.

Mary Johnson has the first recorded confession of witchcraft. she was accused of theft while she worked as a house servant, and in her confession she admitted to “familiarity with the devil”, sexual relations with devils and men, and murdering a child. she was executed later as she was pregnant.

Kathrine Harrison was the first to be banished from the connecticut colony. she was wealthy with inherited money. she had legal problems that soon came to a head after her crops were destroyed and livestock killed, and was never compensated. she was also sued for slandering Goody Griswold.

Kathrine was accused later of breaking the sabbath, using black magic, appearing in spectral form to people, and fortune telling. after several complications through three trials, where much evidence relied heavily on the accuser, she was banished and moved to new york with her family as planned long before.

these are just the three key people accused at the time. though living in a calvinist colony, they were all accused with one similarity: they were either entitled or had money.

Alse Young’s husband was to inherit money

Mary Johnson was accused of stealing

Kathrine Harrison had inherited wealth from her late husband

and they are all women.

personally, this puts a lot into perspective of the calvinist people from the 1600’s, especially when you consider that’s the place Philip and Caleb grew up in as orphans. they most likely had their main formative years right in the middle of the trials before it wound down and Caleb left to the BI. Philip probably was too concerned for his brother (and the evidence of a real witch) to pay much mind to the trails winding down when John Winthrop Jr slid into the connecticut colony’s dms and took over the insanity to calm everyone down.

at this point Philip would be in the BI looking for Caleb and the salem witch trials would be thirty years away— But Philip wouldn’t know that.

And one more little fact about Colibri

He has several nicknames we gave them

“Philiptor” is the very first nickname that we giggled at and discarded, because... it sounds like a type of dinosaur

"Tandem" - clear and precise. Actively used in our conversations

“Colip” is how we most often refer to them. And moreover, we decided that Collector himself came up with this nickname. And when meeting new people, he introduces themself like this, meaning by that, “It’s not only me here, but also my friend. And even if he doesn’t take an active part in the conversation, you still need to know that he’s here too”. I don't use this name here, on Tumblr, so that people don't have associations with ship names

“Coliptor” is how my classmate refers to them. The nickname "Colip" confuses her because it sounds similar to "Collie"

"Colibri" is a derivative of Coliptor. Means "hummingbird"
