Clambering into the compartment containing your friends after separating from Theo, you are greeted with expectant silence. Ten eyes peer at you with varying emotions; curiosity, caution, surprise, excitement, and intrigue all seem to swim in the faces of your dear friends.

Slapping your hands onto your knees, you smile nervously at them. “Well, what is it?”

“Don’t keep us waiting!” urges Hannah, who’s practically vibrating with excitement. “What was that all about? Running after Nott of all people.”

Your brows furrow unconsciously, “What d’you mean?”

Ginny laughs at your apparent confusion. “Nuh uh, Y/n. We all saw you go after Nott, no need to be coy now.” She winks cheekily at you. “Are you two seeing each other?”

You sputter at her brashness, “Me and Theo? There’s—”

“It’s Theo now, is it?” Padma asks. “When did he become Theo, eh?” Padma nudges your shoulder with her own.

“Oh, shove it, Pads!” You could practically feel the red rising in your face and neck at the undivided attention now being paid to your very short, tiny, essentially minimal interaction with a male specimen. You felt like a research subject whenever your friends interrogated you like this. “I was just worried Theo was going to miss the train—a very normal thing to be worried about considering he’s my potion partner and I bloody well can’t use his brain if he’s stranded in Hogsmeade! Besides,” you said, pulling at the sleeves of your wooly sweater, “that fight between Malfoy and him looked downright awful.” At that, the girls abruptly halted their aggressive probing, uneasily remembering the spat that had taken place very publicly in The Three Broomsticks. All, except for Luna, who continued to peer at you with that typical all-knowing, dreamy look of hers that seemed to suggest she knew better.

As if there’s anything going on between Theo and me. I barely know the guy…or almost barely know him…kind of know him?

Shaking the disorganized thoughts from your head, you turned to the girls to continue the conversation that had abruptly stopped at the tavern. A train ride filled with trolley sweets, gossip, and uncontrollable laughter soon led to your arrival at Hogwarts, just in time for the evening meal.

Retiring to your room shortly after dinner, you found that your housemates’ beds were empty. You guess that they were likely meandering around the grounds before curfew. You savored the silence and stillness of the room. However, all too soon, it was interrupted by an odd sort of sound.

Clink.

At first you ignored it, thinking something had just shifted in your room.

Clink…Clink.

This time, your eyes swept across the room, searching for whatever could be causing that sound. It didn’t sound like a water drip, someone in heels, or even coins moving around in a coin purse.

Clinkclinkclinkclink!

As the sound increased in volume and frequency, you realized it was coming from the window of all places, even though you were elevated relatively high in the tower containing your bedchamber. That is to say, no person could have been outside your room without the aid of a broom or the flying charm. You cursed under your breathe that the window was glazed, meaning you couldn’t see what lay on the other side. Undergoing a momentary crisis of whether you should open the window, you decided in a split-second to just open it and hope for the best. However, you made sure to grab your wand.

Can’t be too careful now, can we, Y/n?

Your hand grasped at the brass handle, quickly swinging the frame open. An autumnal evening gust of wind greeted you, along with something else.

What the fuck.

Perching on your windowsill, was a quaint tawny owl peering at you rather oddly. The bird cocked its brown and white feathered head as you did the same.

What the devil is a bloody owl doing up here? “I don’t suppose you intended to come up here, did you?” Looking at the owl, you noticed it was clutching something in its claws, a small parcel of sorts. “Is that for me?”

As if answering, the owl flew past you and landed on your desk. Its head cocked once more as if wondering whether you were going to join it or not. Realizing you were standing dumbly in front of the window and letting all the warm air out, you shut it. You did not lock it, however, anticipating that your feathered friend would be departing shortly.

You joined the owl at your desk, sitting in your chair. You were now eye level with the mysterious bird, its dark eyes gazing into your own.

“May I?” you inquired, gesturing towards the little package in its clutches. The fowl relented, gently releasing it onto the wood of your desk. Before allowing yourself to rip into the bundle, you pulled out a small cannister of crickets you kept in one of your desk drawers for when you visited your own owl in the aviary. Lightly placing it in front of the owl, you allowed it to treat itself while opening the unknown gift.

Inside, you found a small package of caramel creams, just like those you had gifted to Mr. Flume a few short hours ago.

“How…?” You looked to the bird who was still pleasing itself with your offering of crickets.

You couldn’t begin to wonder at who would have known to gift you that particular candy, who would have noticed your quick interaction among the thick throng of students that had filled Honeydukes earlier. No one had stood out to you in the little time you had spent in the candy store, wholly preoccupied with your candy exchange.

Where could they have even bought it from? It’s not like Mr. Flume even stocks this specific sweet, no matter how much I may beg the man to.

“You must have been flying for ages to bring these to me, I reckon.”

“Hoot.”

Laughing at the short, clipped response of the owl, your eyes noticed a small piece of parchment paper within the parcel. Grasping and opening it quickly, your eyes were met with the same script you had seen on the previous note that had accompanied the moly bouquet currently residing on your nightstand. Once more, the note was succinct and saccharine.

Sweets for you, sweetheart.

“Seems your owner fancies me,” you said to the owl as you carefully refolded the note. “I don’t suppose you would be able to give me a clue as to who they are?”

“Hoot.”

Sighing, you replied, “Alright, alright. I won’t badger you for answers.” You rose from your chair, intending to allow the plumed messenger to return to the aviary. The bird flew from its perch on your desk to your shoulder, its head gently rubbing against your cheek. You smiled at the little show of affection. Once more, you opened your window, allowing your avian visitor to rejoin the skies. Looking back at the caramel creams and clutching the note to your chest, a warm feeling began to leak out of your heart. Whoever your admirer was, he was rather…sweet.

A few caramel creams later, you were sprawled on your bed and surrounded by your friends as you recounted the entire rendezvous with the tawny owl. You shared the sweets among your friends, but you kept the contents of the note to yourself. Your friends had already seen the first note and none of them had recognized the handwriting. There was no harm done, really.

Besides, you thought, it’s kind of nice to keep something between just me and this elusive ‘Teddy.’

“You didn’t recognize the owl, did you?” asked Ginny. “Godric knows everybody can tell when I’ve sent an owl. That bloody bird, Errol, is hard to miss.” She gives you a vexed look that makes you chuckle.

“No, it looked like any other owl I’d have seen in the aviary. Anyway, there are hundreds of owls here, they’re not exactly easy to differentiate.”

“Well,” Padma says, “at the very least, we know that your little admirer is a third year or older.”

Hannah’s face shows her confusion, “How do you figure?”

“They were in Honeydukes, weren’t they?” Padma shrugs, “Whoever he is, he has to be, at minimum, thirteen years old to go to Hogsmeade.”

Groaning, you flop back onto your bed, hands covering your face in dismay. “Blimey, I hadn’t even considered it might be someone younger than me. What if it is a third year? Fucking hell, I’ll never be able to live it down.”

Moving your hands from your face, Hermione smiles gently at you. “If it is a third year, which I seriously doubt, you’ll be gentle in letting them down. No big deal.”

“I’d be a laughingstock, ‘Mione,” you say grumpily.

“No, you won’t, Y/n,” replies Hannah. “Besides, it’s just the six of us that knows, right?”

“About that…” Ginny looks at you sheepishly. “I may or may not have possibly, accidentally let it slip when I was perhaps…potentially talking with Lavender…”

The redhead’s confession gets you to shoot up quickly from your horizontal position. “You did what?” You toss at a pillow at her, which, with her incredible athleticism, she easily intercepts. You frown. “Lavender is possibly the worst gossip I’ve ever met. I’d be surprised if Filch didn’t know about it.”

“It was an accident, promise!” Ginny exclaims, “Lavender asked if you were seeing anybody—I think she’s interested in Lee Jordan—so, I suppose she was trying to determine whether or not you were—”

“Ginny.”

“…Yes, Y/n?”

“I’m going to give you until the count of three.”

“Count of three—what for?”

“One.”

“Oh please, Y/n. I didn’t mean to—”

“Two.”

“For the love of Merlin—”

“Three.” At your last count, you sprint at the girl who starts to run from you as you chase her with your wand. She sharts to shriek with laughter, dashing as far from your incurrent wrath as possible.

“You’re going to get it, Weasley!”

hi there! i'm eliza (she/her) & at the moment i'm craving either some harry potter, asoiaf, or some hunger games rp. it's like its 2013 again! i'm 25+ (sigh!) so unwilling to write with anyone under 21 under any circumstances, and I write on discord, generally on private servers.

i like to double up in terms of canons - if i write your preferred canon, it would be great if you could write mine - and if we do mxf ships I prefer to double up on those too. I am comfortable writing all genders and dynamics, I just find that having two ships means we both have equal investment! in terms of ocs I have noted a couple of oc scenarios I would like to explore, but in general I prefer to stick faiiiirly close to canons.

i am definitely a 2-3 paragraphs type of writer and i love to ramble on about our characters, novel/novella style!

After some requests, here is the rough rough draft of Padma and Theodore’s story!!

Padma stared at her reflection in the mirror and didn't know when or how her appearance had changed so much. But after fighting in a war, starting her fling with Theo and later marrying him, having seven kids, she couldn't quite tell what had changed about her. She was a mother, a wife, a survivor, and yet she was also still the scared eleven year old about to board the train to a new fate.

Theodore stared at Padma. Since he was fourteen, his life had revolved around her and everything else within orbit. Her smile, her eyes, her beautiful dark hair and brown skin all pulled him in. He was a goner at fourteen, and even more now at twenty, thirty, forty, and so on.

Too bad they don't always see the same thing in the mirror.

Review: Divination for Skeptics by olivieblake

Summary: The latest in magical advancements is an enchantment that reveals romantic compatibility. Effectively eliminating uncertainty from dating, the charm's Hermione Granger-approved calculation of traits and preferences is a foolproof method of determining whether or not you've found The One. It's also, for Hermione, positively dreadful news. Dramione, post-war, soulmate AU.

Review: Once in a while, you’ll find a guilty pleasure that’s just so fun that you don’t even feel guilty for liking it. For me, Divination for Skeptics is that story.

In Divination for Skeptics, witty, snarky banter is the name of the game. The characters are ridiculous, over-the-top, and totally entertaining. That, combined with the twist on the soulmate trope makes this story an uproarious read to liven up your afternoon. One of the other strengths of this story is how the writing makes you look forward to predictable and unpredictable plot elements alike.

When it comes to her characters, olivieblake really leans into one particular facet of their personality and exaggerates it (ex. Hermione’s logical side) such that the characters don’t feel super well-rounded. However, their over-the-top antics were just so successful at being entertaining that I didn’t even mind.

To me, Divination for Skeptics isn’t trying to be more than a fun story, and frankly it’s one of those stories that I feel content with being a one-time read (albeit an enjoyable one-time read). It’s definitely not for everyone, especially those that really like their characters to undergo more character development, but if you enjoy fast character repartee, this may be a story for you.

A week had passed, and you still knew diddly-squat regarding the mysterious guy who had generously sent you the bouquet of moly blossoms and the adjoining note. Glances over classmate’s shoulders to peer at their handwriting were unfruitful and almost landed you in detention when McGonagall had noted your lack of attention in Transfiguration. Whoever your secret admirer was, he had made sure to cover his tracks and frustratingly stump you. No additional clue found its way to you, and no one came forward.

You’d even gone to Professor Sprout earlier in the week to inquire about her moly plants and determine if your mystery man had procured the flowers from her, or alternatively, stolen them. She’d answered in the negative to both—no one had come to her regarding your bouquet, and she wasn’t missing any stock. However, she did echo the sentiment you and Hermione had shared, that whoever he was, he had spent a great deal of money to impress you.

You rolled over in bed to peer at the blooms decorating your bedside. They were still darling as ever. However, they were a constant reminder you had no clue as to who had sent them.

If the guy really fancied me, he’d know this must be driving me mad.

You pulled the covers over your head, groaning, before resolving to go down to breakfast in the Great Hall. Your little quandary wasn’t going to be solved anytime soon, and your stomach shouldn’t suffer for it.

Joining your friends in the Great Hall, Ginny noticed you were a little quieter than normal. “You alright there, Y/n?” Breaking your reverie, you smiled at the red-headed Weasley before stuffing a piece of jam-smothered toast into your mouth.

Your muffled and somewhat undiscernible reply of “’M all good, thanks” was met with a laugh from Ginny and a scolding from Hermione to slow down while eating.

“I’ve got to hurry, ‘Mione,” you said between bites, “otherwise I’ll be late for the Hogsmeade trip. Need to clear my mind for a bit.” Hermione watched in horror at the speed with which you downed the toast, practically throwing a napkin at you when she noticed the jam lingering in the corners of your mouth. You grinned sheepishly at her.

“Still no clue then, I reckon?” Padma asked. You just shook your head, turning to dive into some fried eggs. While you had hoped to be discreet about the whole situation, you had wanted your friends’ opinions, as well as their help, in searching for your secret admirer. However, you had no such luck and your friends were just as clueless.

“It’s kind of dreamy, don’t you think? The whole not-knowing part and the expectation of another clue or a gift. To think someone in this room sent you those lovely flowers!” Hannah seemed more excited about it than you did.

“Oh, come off it. We all know it’s killing Y/n not to know—I’ll bet you she was the kid who would shake her presents under the Christmas tree to try and figure out what they were. Maybe even peer through a hole in the wrapping paper to sneak a peek, eh?” Ginny joked, nudging your arm.

The glare you sent Ginny let her know she had hit the nail on the head.

“Can I see the note again?” asked Luna. Pulling it from your pocket, you handed it to the waifish girl, with Padma peering over her shoulder. As she handed it back, you noticed the certain degree of softness the parchment now had, caused by the countless folding, unfolding, and gentle tracing of the letters by your fingertips. You looked at it once more before tucking it back in.

“Well,” you said, rising from your seated position, “enough of that. I’ve got a date with fizzing whizzbees at Honeydukes, and I will not let you lot make me late!” Laughing, the five girls stood up to join you and began to make their way out of the Great Hall.

Upon arriving in Hogsmeade, the six of you split up to run various errands or meet other friends. Luna joined you on the trip to Honeydukes, desiring to pick up some pepper imps, which she believed would ward off nargles from settling in her hair. You just nodded at your endearing, albeit strange friend. Nodding was oftentimes the best thing to do when Luna said something particularly…off. Upon entering the candy store, you separated from the blond Ravenclaw to fulfill your particular errand.

“Mr. Flume!” You called out to the elderly proprietor of Honeydukes. He smiled once he placed your voice. Your acquaintance with Ambrosius Flume and his wife had begun in your third year, on your very first trip to Hogsmeade. Over the years, you’d heard countless stories about the store and its fantastical sweet treats. As such, when you were finally of age, you had been extremely excited to finally visit. Upon entry, in your typical coordinated fashion, you had managed to slip on and fall due to the bat’s blood soup Neville Longbottom had managed to spill all over the checkered floor. Spotting the tears quickly forming in your eyes, courtesy of your pain and embarrassment, Mrs. Flume had helped you off the floor and fixed you a cup of hot chocolate while you amused her husband with various accounts of muggle delicacies and candies. Since then, you had made it a habit to bring him a muggle candy of some sort to try, proving that even though muggle treats had no real magic in them, they could still be magical. In turn, he would trade one of his newest treats for you to try.

Finally meeting through the frenzied crowd of Honeydukes, Mr. Flume clasped one of your hands in both of his, giving it a hearty squeeze. “How have you been, dearie? Brought me something today, did you?”

You laughed at his eagerness. “You only want me for my muggle sweets, don’t’ you? How incorrigible.”

The two of you giggled like children before you pulled out the promised sweet. This time, you had brought him a small bag of Goetze’s caramel creams, also known as bullseyes. As silly as it might seem, the candies were close to your heart, something you had enjoyed with your mother as a child, eating away at the chewy caramel outside and the sweet cream filling.

“They’re my absolute favorite, you know. And after four years of exchanging candies with you, I insist you stock them just for me. Waiting for packages from my mum to get my fix is simply too difficult.”

Mr. Flume laughed at your dramatics before pocketing the sweets. “You know how much I enjoy these little exchanges with you, poppet. I’ve got something new for you to try, straight from my little lady’s oven.” Reaching into the pocket of his worn apron, he pulled out a pastry of some sort wrapped in brown paper. “Mrs. Flume calls ‘em ‘Cheering Cherry Tarts,’ ‘spose to boost your spirit for a few hours if you can imagine that. Hope you like it.” With that, he left with an affectionate pat on your arm before going to assist some of the other customers.

Taking one bite of the pastry, you had to resist the urge to moan at how delicious it was.

If you knew one thing about Mrs. Flume, it was that the woman could cook.

Scarfing down the tart, you grabbed a box of toffees and glacial snowflakes to bring back with you. After checking out, you made your way to The Three Broomsticks where you had agreed to meet to meet up with your friends after you completed your errands.

You quickly spotted your friends within the tavern. Padma was sporting several shopping bags from Gladrags Wizardwear, while Ginny and Hannah had popped into Zonko’s to pick up some stink pellets intended for the Gryffindor first-years. Ginny was more than happy to continue the pranking tradition her older brothers had begun at Hogwarts, and Hannah was always game for a good laugh. Hermione sat quietly at the table twirling one of her new quills. At the sight you let out a small chuckle. Hermione was many things, but she was not someone to pass up on purchasing new stationary. She was practically besotted whenever she saw a fine quill.

Joining the gaggle of girls, you all went over your purchases, ordering some treats and drinks, gossiping about various happenings at Hogwarts, and just enjoying the general splendor of The Three Broomsticks and its ambience. As much as you enjoyed your classes, moments like these were what you would miss most upon your graduation in the spring. It brought a little twinge to your heart, the bittersweet thought of leaving, but you were excited for the future and to see what your dearest friends would go on to do.

Your reminiscing and get-together, however, was interrupted by increasingly loud voices from a corner table. Imagining it to be some drunkards, you turned, only to see Nott and Malfoy arguing over something that had the two Slytherins particularly heated. While you had no idea what had started their spat, it was easy to tell that Malfoy had somehow provoked Nott who became increasingly incensed. Towering over the blonde, Nott continued to spew verbal fire at him and despite his best effort to hide it, you could tell that Malfoy was intimidated.

“Chi mi piace non sono affari tuoi, Malfoy. Restane fuori!” While you didn’t understand the Italian rapidly leaving Nott’s mouth, you could tell how angry he was. As he was about to continue his verbal assault, he caught your eyes and likely the look of concern on your face. His face relaxed and his next words seemed to slip his mind. Sparing one more withering glance at Malfoy, he quickly stormed out of the tavern and conversation slowly recommenced.

“Wonder what started that little fight,” wondered Padma, picking up her glass of butterbeer.

Turning back, you shrugged, “No idea.”

The six of you left The Three Broomsticks shortly after, realizing that you would have to return to Hogwarts soon. You linked your arm with Ginny as she chatted about her intended strategies for the upcoming Quidditch season. Walking towards the train station, you noticed Nott in the distance, trekking in the opposite direction of the Hogwarts Express.

Didn’t he know that the train would be leaving soon?

Removing your arm from Ginny’s, you excused yourself. “I’ll meet you guys on the train, alright? Save me a seat.” With that, you quickly followed the retreating Slytherin.

“Don’t be late, Y/n! You can’t be losing house points this early in the year!” yelled Hermione.

When you finally caught up to Nott, he was sitting on a bench located on the path that headed towards the Shrieking Shack. He was staring into the distance, those brooding eyes of his lost in thought. Hearing the crunch of autumn leaves beneath your feet, his head swiveled towards your approaching figure. He stood in surprise before sitting again. You sat down beside him.

Bumping his shoulder with your own, you asked, “Something on your mind, Nott? You seem a little…out of it.”

At the sound of your voice, he left out a long sigh. “No—nothing. ‘M fine.” The clipped response made you raise a brow at him. The guy was not very good at lying, even if he was a Slytherin. “And…it’s Theo. Or, I mean, you can call me Theo.” Those blue eyes returned to you, accompanied by the faintest of smiles.

“Alright then, Theo. What’s got your wand in a knot…Or should I say N-o-t-t?” You let out a small laugh, winking at him as he gave you a look somewhere between horrified and disgusted.

“I don’t even want to dignify that with a response.”

“It was right there! I had to.”

“You definitely did not.”

“Don’t you mean…did N-o-t-t?”

“Alright, that’s enough.” He paused, before continuing, “Do you think it’s too late to request a new Potions partner? I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it through the year at this rate.”

You gasped in mock horror, lightly knocking him on the arm, “Oh please Theo, I’m a peach. You adore me.” You didn’t notice how Theo stiffened at your retort, your eyes turning to the autumn trees lining the path.

“That was quite a scene in there, you and Draco. Fighting over anything in particular?”

Theo let out a huff of hot air through his nose, “No…it’s just—Malfoy’s a fucking prat.”

A bark of laughter left you at his response. “Could have told you that in first year, Theo. Would have saved you a lot of trouble.” At that, he laughed, and you were happy to see a grin finally grace his normally stoic face.

“Now c’mon,” you said standing, “we’ve got to get going if we don’t want to miss the train. Godric knows how much trouble I’ll be in with my housemates if we don’t make it in time.”

Theo stood and joined you in walking back towards the platform, a comfortable silence falling over you two. He seemed to have snapped out of whatever funk had clouded his mind, as he was soon making small talk and a few jokes as you got closer.

Just before you boarded the train, Theo grasped your elbow gently to turn you towards him. He was at your eye level then, as you had stepped onto the first step of the express. You looked at him with questioning eyes. “Sorry, um—just wanted to say thanks.” At your furrowed brow he added, “for checking on me, I mean.”

You smiled at him. “Course. After all, what are Potions partners for?” At that, he returned your smile, his bright blue eyes crinkling a little at the edges.

Huh. Cute.

what are your thoughts on padma x blaise or romilda x cormac?? i always thought they could have interesting chemistry and i was wondering what your thoughts on them would be?

Ooh! :D Tysm for asking~ I LOVE headcanon questions, esp ship thoughts/imagines! I've not written either pairing, tho these are charries I enjoy (and ones I know I truly love in three instances—I need to write Cormac more before I upgrade my "like" to "love"! XD). I've written Romilda and Padma the most of these four and therefore have some solid characterizations for them (Romilda in fic that's mainly posted now, Padma in some forthcoming fic to be posted this spring—so please look forward to new eagle content in addition to old eagle content soon to be crossposted to tumblr and to AO3!), but I DO HAVE SOME IDEAS FOR THESE SHIPS~ (So sorry for the looong reply—I had fun writing about both pairs! :D and tumblr’s read-more function on asks is...wonky at best these days...let’s hope this works...)

firstly, may I just say—this is a good-looking couple~ (I mean, big love for the Patil twins in general, but also ngl Louis Cordice cast as Blaise in the movies was A+ imo, *lol* is my artist bias showing yet i kinda wanna draw them now)

that aside, eagle–snake ships intrigue me?? esp with someone quiet and shrewd like Blaise outside of Pansy, I find I enjoy him with Ravenclaws...

Padma always struck me as the twin who was too nice and reluctant to say "no"—after all, she did let Parvati rope her into going to the Yule Ball with Ron, which did not turn out to be very fun at all; but she did end up giving up on Ron and dancing with a Durmstrang student that evening in order to save her night, so I see that as the start of her developing her own determinedness (not to mention joining the D.A. in bk5 afterwards)

And then we have Blaise it's the quiet ones you gotta watch *LOL*

He's such an observer rather than an active participant, but he comes across as someone who would make worthwhile conversation, a personality type that got on Draco's nerves...hmm, I wonder if the Sorting Hat ever considered Blaise for Ravenclaw House for a second...? :O

also an idea: Pansy knows/knew the Patils outside of school, so it's possible that Blaise might've, too, or might later on the closer Blaise finds himself pulled into Draco & Pansy's orbit

I think I could see PadmaBlaise as a will-they-won't-they deal, a classmates-turned-mates trope where they're in each other's orbit at school mainly during study halls and Padma can appreciate his more studious interests (my main hc is that he has interests in more advanced and difficult subjects and eventually becomes Professor of Ancient Runes, tbqh) and Blaise can enjoy some company without a need for conversation altho if they do converse it'll hold his interest without being Dark (Draco & his cronies) or needlessly invasive or suggestive (Pansy & the girls...mainly Pansy, but sometimes Daph pries, too); this also works bc I hc the eagles as being close but not exactly realizing/appreciating their closeness during their school days, so Padma has her friends, certainly, in her House, but Blaise would be a nice change of pace for her—likewise with Blaise, bc he sort of considers Pansy and perhaps Daphne his friends, and Draco's entertaining and Theodore's kind of a git sometimes, but Blaise in general struggles with the concept of friendship or relationships altogether possibly a side-effect of his mum's reputation for having all those late husbands

outside of school, living not super far from each other and having families running in some of the same social circles (bc now that I've thought about this, I RLY LIKE THAT IDEA <3), I still think they'd carry on their friendship; Pansy might tease Blaise a bit about it, but the snakes don't rly bother him too much about it bc the Patils aren't a bad family (the only issue in recent yrs is when the twins join the D.A.); I think their friendship is more of a concern for Padma's family, esp bc Parvati would detach herself from her best mate's hip long enough at least to alert their parents of the company Blaise keeps, & that coupled with the well-known rumors about Mrs. Zabini just make everyone wary about how close Padma gets to Blaise

but honestly it's such a lark bc there's not an evil bone in Blaise's body—Padma's had enough deep, meaningful conversations with him on walks around their respective neighborhoods and even a few times around the castle grounds to know that, even if he doesn't say it, the way Draco talks scares him (and scares Pansy, too, Blaise lets slip, and a pang of nostalgia for a childhood friend she & her twin once had makes her heart ache), & Blaise lowers his guard enough times on their walks that eventually Padma's fingers find their way to his & sometimes they halfheartedly hold hands

Padma's determination to keep their bond alive & well struggles during 6th & 7th yrs, esp with how crazy things get and the danger the reconstituted D.A. put themselves in—they don't talk about it, but it's a silent argument they have, that he doesn't want her to join again & fight back, that she can't sit idly by while her sister and friends get hurt & tortured & nearly killed on a daily basis—any of them could be next, and change must start somewhere, so it can start with her (and the D.A., but Blaise isn't arguing with them, he's arguing with Padma and why won't she bloody listen!)

it turns into a cold war between them, & when the final battle occurs, they're in completely different parts of the castle, Padma actively fighting and thinking Blaise remains twiddling his thumbs in the dungeons with the rest of the Slytherins...

...in actuality, her words reached him, sank in; that night, Blaise calms Pansy down after her "hand Harry over!" hysterics and then is one of the few Slytherins to do smthg that night (Astoria actively fights, her sister later learns, but Daphne & Blaise actively protect their fellow snakes, esp the defenseless underclassmen)

Padma & Blaise don't exactly "make up" following the war, until they discover they've both signed up for an 8th yr, and that yr gives them the time to share and mend; when Blaise tells Padma how the war went on his end, she isn't surprised but is pleased—he's surprised she's so calm about his actions, but they've gotten to know each other so well & she knew how badly the other side's deeds bothered him...she honestly believed it was only a matter of time until he fought back ("After all, when talking, you're so quick with your commentative snickers and so good with the comebacks—so fighting back makes sense to me")

other random hcs: the Patils are well-known for their matching plaits, but Blaise's favorite activity at the end of the day is gently combing his fingers thru Padma's hair, unraveling the plait and just winding tendrils around his fingers; I will forever keep Padma working at the Ministry, and they arrive at Ministry events looking like a certified Power Couple™ decked out in the finest fashions (likewise at faculty events at Hogwarts bc Professor Zabini is A Thing <3); Blaise learned from his mother how not to do romance, so he's actually quite the romantic—one of his favorite pastimes is owling Padma out of the blue with a random love letter (better yet, she gets to decode it bc it's in some old runic alphabet, but she never worries about not recalling things off the top of her head, bc Blaise has heaps of references at home that she can ransack at the end of her workday); since they spend so much time in the U.K. apart (him in Scotland teaching, her in London at the Ministry), they take a prolonged vacation every summer, a getaway usually just the two of them (sometimes the other Patils like to crash...but Blaise finds he doesn't mind it too much, the large family's growing on him, *LOL*)

does Mrs. Zabini ever approve of Padma? well, after practicing a good "fuck if I care" stare with Parvati's and Lavender's help, Padma's able to convey calmly to her that she knows she doesn't need Mrs. Zabini's approval bc Blaise's opinion is what matters and that actually amuses Blaise's mum immensely so Padma unknowingly wins her over in the end wut

as for the Patils, with Padma knowing Blaise is a decent man, it doesn't take long for Parvati to discover that he's rather a softie, so the family comes around to him and the idea of him being Padma's better half; as for actually dealing with Parvati, once the secret's out, it doesn't take long for it to get out that he was smthg of a quiet hero in the war, too (confirmed thru the grapevine by Daphne), and once Parvati knows, Lavender knows, and once Lav knows, the world knows; so all this time, Professor Zabini's students were intimidated by this tall, dark, handsome teacher of Ancient Runes who could silence the room with a heavy stare—now his students know he's a kind Slytherin and it gives them the warm&fuzzies and it makes him more approachable?? some of the older students even try to pal around with him *LOL*

^honestly Blaise's problem is the opposite of Neville's: students initially think Neville looks like a kind man who might be a pushover and then they learn HOLY SHIT HE SLAYED NAGINI WITH GRYFFINDOR'S SWORD??? and then poor Blaise had students who almost feared him and now they just wanna hug him XDDD i'm also here for Blaise&Neville friendship btw

so yeah, PadmaBlaise life could be rly fun and interesting and I think they could bring out some rly great qualities in each other! :DDD <3

WELL, as with any Cormac ship, they're gonna hafta tackle his seeming narcissism XD

but if someone can do it, that person is Romilda "Why, yes, I did once try to slip the Boy-Who-Lived a well-made Love Potion and almost succeeded" Vane

Romilda strikes me as the type of witch who knows what she wants and when she wants it—was she definitely after Harry only for his name and fame? *shrugs* But the potential for an older Romilda to have matured a little, to remember being scared in the final battle and take her skills more seriously couples well with her determined decision-making, imo

as with Cormac, the poor bloke is forever going to be a looks-nab-him-first type, i.e., he'd probably spy Romy at some Quidditch match with her mates & just be gobsmacked the bushy hair makes him falter for a second & think he has a type, given Hermione...but Romilda's freckles are cute, too <3

Cormac's also stubborn & hasn't lost his touch in dogging a pretty witch's heels, but Romilda takes time to develop any attraction to him—sure, he's a Quidditch player, but old habits die hard, & Cormac hasn't quite made a name for himself, so she's not yet sure about giving him the time of day (meanwhile, her friends are half entertained & half torn that they're not lucky enough to be in her shoes bc they all agree he's handsome)

and it's prolly thru her mates that he manages to snag a date with her, the simplest of things, just a cuppa, no commitment, bc her friends are all curious as hell

turns out that Cormac's thoughts towards romance have never rly changed since he was a teenager, but he was misread by the Golden Trio et al back in the day: of course he wants to be a hero in the Quidditch world, if not the top one...but he's not looking for a trophy wife to dangle off his arm, he just wants to find a charming woman like his firecracker mother momma's boy <3 and have the large family his parents had planned on having but couldn't (Cormac's large ego developed bc he was an only child who was terribly spoiled)

for Romilda, it's not a bad match—Cormac's a gentleman, but her desire for a man with a title or fame to his name comes from being raised by a single mother, just the two of them sort of scraping by hi okay i have a lot more on romilda's fam in general anYWHO, so Cormac essentially telling her he's ready to give her any kind of life she wants is like a dream come true—almost unheard of, post-war, unless you're a part of the Potter–Weasley clan

knowing there's a distinct possibility they could work in that sense, Romy gives him a worthwhile shot & they date properly, her coming to learn far more about Quidditch than she ever thought possible, him coming to appreciate magic that her mother passed down to her (potions dissolved in teas soothe his tired muscles after practice better than anything~! ...altho Romilda's fingers digging into his arms is nice, too)

for two sort of flamboyant personalities who might have the potential to be hotheads, I think, there's a kind of ease between them, where they sort of click into place, Romilda who wants a comfortable life and Cormac who wants to give her that life

now for some silliness: at Quidditch matches & press events, Cormac is OVER THE TOP in using his magic to point out where his better half is in the crowd, & Romy preens at this (not to mention it's always a beautiful bit of magic); wherever Romy works (my main hc is her as Auror), she every now and then occasionally gets a double-take by someone who remembers exactly why her name was known back in their school days, but she always puts the rumors to rest at the next work event but dragging Cormac in front of that person so she can say smthg along the lines of "Oh, Harry? Yeah, no, I upgraded!" XD <3; Romy finds calm in patching up Cormac's Quidditch things by hand when on break at work (he's so embarrassed when he finds out—turns out, yes, there are things that embarrass even Cormac McLaggen, *lol*, and having his guards repaired or, Merlin forbid, his socks darned in public is a hair too far, Miss Vane!); as their relationship grows more serious (and Cormac becomes a more seasoned player to the point where he's a first-stringer), Cormac does come to believe in good-luck charms: his one and only is a lock of Romy's curly hair knotted around the handle of his broom (and it must work, bc the one day it frays and flies off is the day Cormac breaks a damn leg)

they're surprisingly not as volatile as I thought when I first read this ask, and I'm so here for this cuteness???? >:D

My Sequel Policy:

So a couple of my fics have generated sequel worthy attention and while I appreciate all the love and support, I do get quite frustrated when like 60% of interaction on a fic or in my ask box is demanding a sequel. I don’t like writing sequels, I’m not ashamed to admit that, and if I do write one then it’s usually because I had always planned to continue the fic, not because I randomly decided to write an additional part.

So, my rules about sequels:

Unless I clearly state that there’ll be a sequel or additional part for a fic when I first post it, then assume there WILL NOT BE ONE.

If your only comment on a fic is sequel related then I will not respond. (I’m sorry but I get very overwhelmed and pressure myself into writing sequel just to please others, and I don’t want to do that anymore.)

If you submit ‘an ask’ into my askbox that’s sequel related, then I’ll delete it and move on.

If you’d like to request for a fic to be written in two parts then that’s acceptable and I’ll try to work around that.

Sequels are very difficult for me to write because once I’ve finished a fic, I’ve finished it. I usually don’t want to go back to it and write something to continue a storyline that I’ve already moved on from. Therefore, sequels are a NO.

Please don’t rush me or push me to finish because I take a while to connect with an idea, and I always try to make a fic as satisfying as possible.

Six Sentence Sunday

Padma wore the symbol of Hathor around her neck, a pair of curved golden horns that represented the goddess, although Hermione always thought of her more as the embodiment of Isis, the clever, cunning sorceress of Egyptian mythology.

Padma joked that Hermione could be no other than Sekhmet, the fierce, protective warrior goddess of the sands, who was - of course - a lioness. Hermione wore a gold charm around her own neck, a gift from Padma, with the goddess’s likeness on it.

And if Padma was Isis, and Hermione Sekhmet, Theodore Nott could be none other than Thoth, the wise, watchful god of knowledge.

He approached them now, his sapphire eyes hidden by dark aviators, a hint of dark stubble giving him a roguish appearance. Hermione could see his wand sheathed in the leather holster wrapped around his thigh, but otherwise he could have passed for a Muggle archaeologist in his white shirt and khaki trousers.

‘Afternoon, ladies,’ Theo said with a grin, and this time Hermione didn’t miss the way Padma smiled in return.

‘Theo,’ Hermione said in greeting, trying to keep her voice relaxed. His expression showed a flash of surprise at the use of his first name, but to Hermione’s relief, didn’t comment on it.

‘We’ve been waiting for you,’ Padma said now, standing up and stretching her spine. She brushed her hands together to knock the sand off, and Theo raised an eyebrow at her.

‘Yeah? What did you find for me?’

Padma turned to the shimmering artifact, and Hermione carefully dismantled the shielding spell over it. Theo removed his dark glasses, hooking them onto the front of his shirt, and pulled his wand free from its holster. It was slightly curved and made from a dark, reddish wood, Hermione noted, and his fingers were long and elegant curled around it. He waved at the curse, his eyes darkening with interest.

‘Well now,’ he murmured, casting another spell, and then another, in quick succession. ‘You’ve found a good one here.’

WELL more than six sentences, but hey it’s almost Christmas. This is from a Padma x Hermione x Theo fic I’m working on, where they’re curse-breakers based in Egypt ☥

A Hogwarts Sixth Year Drabble? Story Idea? Idk [Theo Nott x Sue Li]

Summary: Sue accepts commission to do someone else’s homework. Pansy and Daphne think this is the perfect way to help Draco pass his classes in sixth year. Theo disagrees. (He asks Sue to help them anyway.)

It was an open secret at Hogwarts that Sue Li accepts commission to do someone else’s homework.

So when Theodore Nott and she had no choice but to work together one Friday (because Draco Malfoy found his assignment more important than double Potions and Padma Patil was in the Infirmary no thanks to a Herbology accident from the day before), Sue was pleased to find out that Theo was not a bad partner and Theo, Slytherin that he was, tested the limits of that good impression by seizing the opportunity to ask the Ravenclaw witch for a favor. Because when else would he be able to talk to her without drawing suspicion from her friends?

While they were waiting for the timer to go off to proceed with the potion, Theo nonchalantly asked, “Say, if I pay you double your usual rate, would you do homeworks for a friend without questions asked?”

“Who is this friend and why are they not asking directly?”

“Someone unimportant. Would you?”

Sue didn’t buy it but said, “I only accept homework for classes I still take at N.E.W.T. level.”

“Perfect. You take the same six classes.”

“So what will I be working on?”

“All of them.”

Sue’s eyebrows reached an impressive height on her forehead at that. “All of them? Why?”

“Ask more questions and I’ll bring the rate down to one and a half your usual.”

The timer beeped and Theo busied himself with their potion. Sue didn’t mind his evasiveness, her brain was busy ransacking the list of students in their year who still attended Hogwarts despite the many safety breaches they experienced in all their years of stay and took the same classes that she did.

There weren’t a lot. Padma Patil, Hermione Granger, Ernie Macmillan, Daphne Greengrass, Draco Malfoy, Theodore Nott, and Blaise Zabini. The first three students were out of question. Padma would not ask her to do her own homework (even when she’s indisposed in the Infirmary), Ernie Macmillan would surely not ask Theodore Nott to ask for him, and, Merlin, the world would end first before Hermione Granger asked for help with homework.

Daphne Greengrass joined her sometimes, at her table in the library, and occasionally, consulted her if they were doing the same homework so Sue crossed her out too. Blaise Zabini... well, the guy gave her the impression that he would rather die than give her the time of day, much less let her do his homework. So that leaves Sue with Theodore Nott and Draco Malfoy.

They were both smart and capable of doing their own academic load but Theo never missed anything, as far as Sue knew, whereas Draco has recently found the hobby of not showing up to class and not complying with requirements so it wasn’t hard to tell which student she’ll do homeworks for, right?

“Where’s Malfoy?” She asked despite the other’s warning. Theo feigned not to hear her and that’s all the confirmation she needed.

It doesn’t answer the question as to why the guy needed help with homework though. Why is Theodore Nott even asking on behalf of him? What’s keeping him busy, anyway? He dropped out of Quidditch (a huge shock to everyone, Sue included) and according to Padma, he’s been lax on prefect duties too. Why Sue knew all that is a question that will remain unanswered for the rest of time. Who cares, really? She’d accept the commission anyway.

“Double?” She piped up, hoping he’d let her question slide.

“Double. All homeworks. For the rest of the year.”

FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR! Was he crazy!? What was going on?

Better not to ask, she thought. With all the rumors going around, it was better to keep her involvements with the Malfoy Heir to a minimum. (Pah. What a joke!)

“Alright.” They spent the rest of that period discussing the terms and conditions to her commission. Theo will be the one to consult with her, and receive her drafts and final outputs. She never has to talk to Draco Malfoy about their arrangement, which she found odd. Really odd. But the pay was high so she kept her mouth shut.

Draco Malfoy only found out about it when the month of July came (he was preoccupied, okay) and with it came his grades for the previous year. His grades had never been better (but only by a small difference). It was an outrage. He immediately called Severus Snape, who was now the Headmaster of Hogwarts, via Floo Network and asked for clarification. It led to an even worse outrage.

Snape came to Malfoy Manor with a box of all his “outputs” from the previous year and Draco spent the rest of his summer break trying to find out who faked his submissions and interrogating his friends who he was sure were the only possible culprits of this. (In the end, Snape decided not to take action because the incident involved a Slytherin and he was biased like that.)

When they returned to Hogwarts for seventh year, the first thing Draco did was track down Susanna “Sue” Li. He entered the Ravenclaw common room and asked a random student who didn’t look like a first year to fetch Sue Li from their dormitory.

(He was appointed Head Boy alongside Pansy as Head Girl so he had the right to enter the other Houses’ common rooms.)

Draco led Sue outside the common room and down to a hidden alcove by the entrance of Ravenclaw Tower, and cast a spell to keep anyone from eavesdropping before confronting her. Surprisingly, the witch showed no fear and had a calculating look on her face.

“I’m not sure I can tell you that.” She answered when he asked who paid her to do his school works for him.

“Witch, I’m not going to do anything, you won’t get in trouble, the other person involved won’t get in trouble. I just need to know.”

“Fine.” She combed her hair away from her face with her hand, “Theo asked me.”

Pansy or Daphne were Draco’s guesses. Blaise he could believe if there had been a miracle, but Theo? This only meant that all of his friends were in on this. And none of them came clean to him when he asked for weeks.

(Deep inside, he appreciated the help. But if anyone asked, he’ll never admit it.)

Those slimy snakes! But first things first.

“And you went along with it because?”

“The pay was high.”

“Bullshit. You don’t need money.”

“Excuse me? Not everyone is like you.”

“Yes, but your family is worth all the Gryffindor families and half of Hufflepuff put together. I checked.”

Sue crossed her arms in front of her and stared defiantly at Draco Malfoy, thinking of anything to throw his way to get him off her back.

Draco met her gaze just as stubbornly and stood with his back straight and head held high, trying for intimidation. “So not money. Definitely not out of kindness. There’s nothing else for you in the agreement. So I have no other choice but to ask: are you some crazy fangirl of mine?”

He watched as the witch furrowed her brows as she took his words in and scoffed in indignation. Nope, definitely not then.

“Theo, then?”

“I am not Theo’s fangirl!”

“No, but you like Theo, don’t you?”

Most girls at Hogwarts admired either Harry Potter or Draco Malfoy. Draco Malfoy, because he was tall, he was handsome, he was smart, he was confident, he was popular, he played for Slytherin in Quidditch, and he was rich, among other things. Admittedly, he was a total catch. Unfortunately, he was blonde. Which was not really a problem. It was just that... Sue didn’t fancy blonde hair, was all. It was purely personal preference. And... Draco was too confident for her liking, bordering on arrogant.

Theodore Nott, on the other hand, was tall and handsome too. He had curly black hair, green eyes, a celestial nose, thin lips, AND dimples on both sides of his face. He was heavensent. And he was smart too. He usually kept to himself and focused on his academics, instead of joining Draco and Blaise in the Slytherin Quidditch team. The sort of man Sue dreamt of being with. (Slim chance, honestly, but Sue can dream.)

When Sue had to work with him that one time in Potions, she had been quieter than usual, not knowing how to interact with him, until he asked about her commissions. It was a trap, she knew. Dangerous, dangerous waters and yet she trod on. When else would this kind of opportunity come up? Her very own object of affection! And a year-long commission! There was no way she was turning that down, even when the situation is highly sketchy.

It did not help that Theo turned out to be a really great guy. The more she knew him, the more her feelings grew stronger. In the final months of their agreement, it had been difficult to control her emotions around him but alas, the guy was as dense as the Forbidden Forest. When she gave the final essay she had to work on that year to Theo, she made an effort to prolong the conversation. And when the topics for conversation have been exhausted, Sue reluctantly bid him a good night.

(She didn’t realize Theo walked her back all the way to Ravenclaw Tower from the library until several minutes later as she was getting ready for bed. She then proceeded to spend the rest of the night wide awake with her heart making a mess in her chest. That moment in time kept her rattled all through summer.)

Sue came back to reality when Draco snapped his fingers in front of her face. Her face burned red in embarrassment, “Well, the answer must be obvious by now. I must say I am impressed. Took you one conversation with me to realize.”

Unlike your dumdum of a friend, she thought petulantly.

“Well, it’s that or you’re crazy. No sane wizard would accept an offer like that. You could have been expelled.”

“But I wasn’t, was I? Thanks to you, no doubt. A thank you would suffice, by the way.”

“Right.” Scratching the back of his head, he meekly said, “Thank you. I still don’t understand why you chose to help a group of Death Eater children in the middle of this War but...”

“Draco—can I call you Draco?” At his reluctant and confused nod, she continued, “Honestly, the pay was really high. I needed a source of money for all the cashmere shopping I do.”

Draco understood this kind of behavior. It was a Slytherin move, to respond with a statement that changed the direction and weight of the conversation. “If you say so.” He threw his signature smirk her way and added, “In return, you could ask me to help you with anything. A Slytherin always pays his debt.”

He nodded at her before making his way back to the Dungeons.

“Don’t tell anyone!” She shouted after him but he only laughed in response.

(It was his first genuine laugh since Dumbledore’s death.)

When Draco got back to his shared dormitory with Theo, Blaise, Greg, and Vince, he immediately shot Theo a shit-eating grin. “Met your girlfriend tonight, mate.”

Theo rolled his eyes at him, “No idea what you’re going on about.”

“I approve, if you must know.”

“Sod off.”

“For what it’s worth, I approve too.” Blaise piped up from his side of the room.

“Me too.” Vince said.

“I don’t.” All four heads turned to Greg, “Only because I think she suits me better.”

Vince and Blaise roared in laughter, and Draco let a smirk graze his lips as he watched on.

“Like she would give any of us the time of day.” Theo murmured.

“She already did. All year, you dunderhead.” Blaise turned to Draco as the blonde sat on the edge of his own bed. “You should have seen them, Draco. Theo was ready to offer the world to her.”

“I was not!” Theo said hotly. And as Theo bowed his head to hide the flames in his cheeks, Draco couldn’t help but think, when this is all over, I hope it works out for them. Now where was Saint Potter to save the day?
