The month of February is going to be quite the eventful one as big time sporting events such as Super Bowl LVI and 2022 NBA All-Star weekend are going down, so this is certainly an exciting time for your favorite sportswear brands to show out. In this first week of the month, you’ll see your imprints such as Nike (NYSE:NKE -0.17%) , adidas (XETRA:ADS.DE -0.89%) , PUMA and others drop off some crazy sneakers, but before we get into those goods, let’s sift through all of the biggest news in footwear that transpired last week.

HYPEBEAST’s Sole Mates series had Nikko Ramos — Senior Brand Director for TITAN — on as its latest featured guest to discuss the basketball brand’s Air Jordan 23 collaboration and the evolution of sneaker culture in the Philippines. On the footwear front, we saw Nike unpack a sizable amount of new offerings including the Nike LeBron 9 “Big Bang,” CLOT x Nike Dunk High, Social Status x Nike Air Max Penny 1 and the Gnarhunters x Nike SB Dunk Low. Folks on the Jordan Brand side made a decent amount of noise as well unveiling the Air Jordan 4 “Infrared,” A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 2 SP on-foot images and official photos of the Air Jordan 1 High 85 “Georgetown.”

The Three Stripes team definitely did not disappoint last week and it showed off more upcoming footwear collaborations with Sean Wotherspoon, a clean adidas YEEZY BOOST 350 V2 “Bone” colorway and Beyoncé latest IVY PARK x adidas “IVY HEART” capsule. In terms of other brands, Feature and Saucony’s “High Roller” Pack ended with the Shadow 6000 “Chocolate Chip” colorway, Miu Miu released its $695 USD New Balance 574 collaboration and UNDERCOVER and Guidi connected for a horse leather Back Zip boot drop.

And ok so first of all - I think people forget that in today’s society everyone feels insecure about their body even thin people- especially now I feel like thin women feel insecure about not having this ig curvy body - women are pressured so badly for having to have the perfect body - but the perfect body for women is on that is most likely not achievable without getting surgery. Also I feel like every week there is another unrealistic trend that media creates for us to have. And also men are pressured for having to be muscular if not they are not really considered manly.

When you’re female : you explain that you feel extremely uncomfortable for not having those curves and that you probably also don’t feel like a “women” since - “real women have curves” all those pictures you see on social media make you feel insecure for not having those ‘thick thighs’ and amazing boobs

When you’re male : you explain that you feel insecure that you’re not strong enough, that you look like a stick ( I do know more than one males that are really insecure about not having much muscle )

For both ways : you explain that you feel bad for not having anything for him to grab on while cuddling or having sex, that all your clothes don’t seem to properly fit and when you’re wearing shorts or a bikini people would think your anorexic ( actually what a girl I known struggles with - she’s just thin but people assume she has an eating disorder)

He will listen not saying anything until you’re finished

He will hold your hands and tell you that he never thought any of those things. He loves your body - you make him feel more buff haha

He also asked if there’s a reason why you don’t gain weight - like some medical condition

Also he would ask you if you want to work out with him. Since you’re thin you will easily see results soon - and you will feel more comfortable when you’re able to see those abs or the definition on your legs - and even doing sports will make you feel better because you do something

He will also help you set up a meal plan - so you will get the right amount of proteins, fats, carbs etc.

He will also make sure to show you how much he loves your body using words as : god your so beautiful / hot / jaw dropping etc.

AND right after you first talked about this he asks you to give him your phone - he goes straight on social media and unfollows all those accounts and follows ones that have a body type similar to yours.

My Top Songs [2020]

Hi all!

As 2020 comes to an end (thank whatever higher power there is), I wanted to share a list of my favorite songs! (the following are songs RELEASED this year) (I’ve included a list of songs that I heard this year, but weren’t released in 2020, after it). These are mostly korean/chinese.

Alright, this is in NO particular order, just my favorites. I’ve mostly included one song from a group/solo act and added their other great releases in description. It is mostly music that I listened to, so if your favs are not here, feel free to rec me good music! ENJOY!

Black swan(orchestral version) by BTS

BTS had a great year musically. 2 korean albums, 1 japanese and lots of solo stuff. My most played songs are Dynamite (listen, she did what she had to do), Stay Gold (if gold had a sound, this would be it), Black Swan, Blue and Grey (i live for melancholy), Life Goes On (spring day’s successor), Filter(park jimin is a threat), Friends (my feels!), Louder than bombs (TROYE SIVAN), UGH (murder music), 00:00, Moon (jin solos are beautiful always) and Your Eyes Tell (honestly, show me one bad japanese single, i dare you).

Ghosting by TXT

I got into TXT a lot more this year, as opposed to being a casual listener that I was last year. Many people say they have a no-skip discography and I believe it’s true. My most played songs were Blue Hour (i ADORE this song), We Lost the summer, Wishlist, Can’t you see me (the song that made me a stan), Fairy of Shampoo (ethereal), PUMA (choi yeonjun is a threat), Eternally (an ATTACKK!) and their f2020 cover.

Ateez is another group i really got into this year, mesmerized by their performance abilities. My most played : Star 1117 (i’m very soft for this song), To the Beat (a true bop), Inception (holy jongho vocals), One day at a time and Good Lil Boy (does hongjoong ever have a bad rap verse?). Their Black Cat Nero cover also blew me away!! (i’m lowkey obsessed).

God’s menu by Stray Kids

I’ve been keeping an eye on Stray Kids ever since hellevator came out and this is my favourite song by them, so far (yes, i had a heart attack when i first saw Hyunjin). Most Played : Back Door (the beat drop gives me life, the choreo is probably my fav), All in, Easy (do they ever have a bad chorus?), GO LIVE (the beat??!! killer), Another Day (i am a slow jam hoe) and My Universe.

Pacman by eaJ

I didn’t think it was possible to love him more after day6 but Jae’s solo music has proved me wrong. Yes, i love Pillows (with Keshi) to bits but pacman is my first love. Most Played : It just is (Seori and their golden vocals), LA TRAINS (vocals!!!), Pinocchio (the mv is adorable, the beat is so fun), 50 proof (the vibes man, it's the VIBES) and TRUMAN.

Left & Right by Seventeen

Another group with amazing releases this year, I’m slowly getting into Seventeen more these days. Most Played : Fallin’ Flower (so beautiful, the vocals), 24H (the beat change?!!???), 17 (Joshua, DK and Pink Sweats) and HOME;RUN (this is a brand of fun that is entirely their own).

Not by the moon by GOT7

I am no stranger to GOT7, i’ve liked their music for years now but this is one of their more lyrical releases this year and i adore when GOT7 does this type of music. Most Played : Poison (jackson opens it and the vibes are immaculate), Last Piece (the way the vocals flow into the rap) and Thank You, Sorry.

So Beautiful by DPR IAN

This is literally the first song i’ve heard from this artist, please rec me more. I also adore No Blueberries with DPR LIVE and CL.

Eight by IU, Prod. SUGA

IU is an indisputable vocal queen, and her music always comforts me greatly so when i heard she was having a song produced by Yoongi, i promptly lost my shit. It was everything I expected and more and embodies sorrow and pain with great grace. Give you My Heart from the ‘Crash Landing on you OST’ was also a loved song this year.

Cry for me by TWICE

How do i talk about the queens? TWICE is the group i go to when I want fun music with good vibes but this song has such bad b*tch vibes that i am in love. Most played : More & More (a bop), Don’t call me again, I can’t stop me (i love the way it flows), Handle It (the vocals??? How pretty this song is???) and Say Something (seriously, eyes wide open is an amazing album).

Criminal by Teamin

Where do i start with Lee Taemin? I love almost all his solo stuff. He grabbed me by the neck ever since ‘Move’ and hasn't let go. Criminal is SO taemin that i don't think anyone else could have delivered the concept with such grace and grit. Most Played : 2 Kids (the chorus is so good), Clockwork, Idea (i love the vibe) and Pansy (i'm a ballad hoe).

Maria by Hwasa

Listen, i loved Twit when it came out but i love Maria as her sound so much more. Most Played : I’m bad too (feat. DPR LIVE) (i love the beat, the vibe and the flavor), LMM and Orbit from ‘The King: Eternal Monarch OST’ (as soon as her voice comes in, i loved the song).

Breath by DEAN, Rad Museum, Mokyo

I’m not aware of many DEAN releases this year, please feel free to rec me if I missed any.

Dear my friend by Agust D ft. Kim Jong Wan (NELL)

D-2 was everything expected from the second mixtape off Agust D and yet it brought a fresh wave of singing and melodies, once again proving the man’s production genius. This song is so reminiscent in it’s lyrics and still so real, its my favorite off the record.Other songs I loved : People, Deachwita and What do you think? (i DID love the complete mixtape though).

Given - Taken by Enhypen

Yes, I watched I-LAND. Given-Taken was a better debut then I expected at first. 10 months (the chorus and beat) and Flicker off their debut album were also played a lot.

I just want to stay with you by Zion.T

The King: Eternal Monarch was a much awaited drama for a lot of people and it’s OST is one of the best ones this year. Zion.T’s amazing vocals really did an amazing job of expressing the love in the story. Other songs I really liked from this album were Gravity by Kim Jong Wan and the Hydrangea Instrumental by Lee Geon Yeong.

The purge by Jay Park, pH-1, Woodie Gochild, Sik-K, and others.

H1GHER: RED TAPE is my hype album of the year. All artists involved did an amazing job. Seriously, get yourself some bomb ass beats, as a treat. Other loved tracks : Telefono Remix (Woodie Gochild is great at his flavour of delivery), Closed Case and The Arrival.

Soul by Lay (zhang yixing)

Yixing’s album LIT was his best project till date, no arguments. He’s really evolved into such a refined musician, especially with how well he merges traditional chinese instruments into Hip Hop/RnB beats and I adore the vibe of this album. Although the album is great entirely, Soul is my favourite for how softly and prettily it flows. Other loved tracks: Eagle (the BEAT), Fly, Boom (bops on bops on BOPS) and Call My Name.

100 ways by Jackson Wang

It is astounding how well Jackson has formed his own style of music ever since starting off with Papillon. He’s also sort of come into himself as an artist and it has birthed some great music. Other loved tracks : Pretty Please (i love the vibe of the song!) and Should’ve Let Go (ft. JJ Lin).

SUGA’s interlude by Halsey

Idk how else to explain it but Halsey and Yoongi have great music synergy. There’s something about their song/lyric writing that matches very well and needless to say, I adore the song. Blueberry eyes by MAX is also another great Yoongi collab.

In Your Time by Lee Suhyun

It’s Okay to not be Okay had an OST that was dreamy, gritty and very fairytale-esque, much like the drama itself. Among a bunch of great songs, this one is my favourite. Other loved songs: You’re Cold by Heize (always delivers!), Breath by Sam Kim (OST angel), Hallelujah by Kim Feel (chills!), In Silence by Janet Suhh (literally how angelic is her tone??), I’m your Psycho by Janet Suhh (it’s creepy in a dreamy way) and Brother | Her World | Through the dark Tunnel of time | Butterfly - all amazing instrumentals by Nam Hye Seung and Park Sang Hee (seriously, go listen to the album).

By my side by Junny

Another great discovery towards the end of the Year, Junny has vocals for DAYS and admirable delivery. Other loved songs: AURA ft. pH-1, edge (this is so hypnotising in it’s beauty) and I will. Please feel welcome to educate me more about this artist!!

Make a Wish by NCT

NCT always provides bops and NCT U is my favourite sub-unit, for their unique style of music, so when they came out with this song I was ready and they delivered! Most Played : 90’s Love (the old boy band theme was so well done), From Home (i’m a sucker for slow songs), Nectar (yes, i adore WayV’s music), MAD DOG by NCT 127 and Kick It by NCT 127 (this is the flavour of NCT i LOVE).

Zombie by Day6

Day6 has always been in my daily otations and as always, they put out good music after good music. I loved both the original Korean and the English versions of this song (they do rock well, what else is there to say?). Other loved songs : Tick Tock (oh the vocals, the way the beat moves!), Love me or Leave me, Day and Night... actually the whole Album is great, go listen to ‘The Book of us: The Demon’.

Fearless by Ma Di [other chinese songs]

Chinese songs have been a surprisingly pleasant addition to my daily rotation. Fearless from the “Go Ahead” OST takes the top stop because of how well it embodies the struggles of stepping into adulthood, the melody and MaDi’s amazing vocals. Other Chinese songs I loved: Praise for Red Plum Blossoms by Xiao Zhan (the perfect welcoming of spring paired with such expressive vocals), Remaining Years by Xiao Zhan (Joy of Life OST) and his OST for the Oath of Love.

To stay true to Soobs I say Bebe Rexha, but also because I really like her music and a collab between them would be interesting

I think Beomgyu, we have the same kind of annoying humor and all. I also believe Beomgyu's love language is joking and being 'mean' (I lack a better English word right now #bilingualstruggles) to each other, which is mine as well. So yeah, Beomgyu and I are kinda the same in a few points.

11. Which member do you think you would argue with?

Taehyunnie, just because when I look at his and Gyu's relation I can see me and him having the same one. Being petty about the little things, but when you need eachother you will be there for each other

Good question, probably Yeonjun, because he seems like the one who would act the most normal about it

The Rap Grammy Nominations Are Weird As Hell | Nov 25, 2020 11:12 AM BY TOM BREIHAN

The very first time that the Grammy Awards recognized rap music, it was an utter fiasco — a clear case of an aging pop-music establishment failing to understand this vital new youth music that had sprung up and rewritten the rules. For the 1989 awards show, the Grammys added one rap category, Best Rap Performance. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince won it for “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” beating out LL Cool J and Salt-N-Pepa and Kool Moe Dee and JJ Fad. The show didn’t deign to recognize Public Enemy, N.W.A, EPMD, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, or Ice-T, all of whom had released classic albums within the voting window. The award wasn’t televised, and most of the nominees, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince included, skipped the show, attending a “Boycott The Grammys” party instead.

Since that night, the history of rap at the Grammys has been a series of baffling, embarrassing decisions. It’s Steely Dan winning Album Of The Year over The Marshall Mathers LP. It’s Gretchen Wilson winning Best New Artist over Kanye West. “It’s weird and it sucks that I robbed you.” It’s also a history of rappers getting angry over the Grammys: “I never let a statue tell me how nice I am,” “You think I give a damn about a Grammy?” In 2019, Drake showed up to accept Best Rap Song. In his acceptance speech, he talked about how the Grammy voters weren’t necessarily the right people to define rap success. The broadcast cut him off mid-speech. Earlier this year, Kanye West, a man who once cared more about Grammy Awards than anyone else not named Neil Portnow, tweeted a video of himself pissing on one of his Grammys. (The Grammys still nominated West this year, for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.)

Yesterday, the Grammys nominated Freddie Gibbs and the Alchemist’s Alfredo in the Best Rap Album category. That’s great! Freddie Gibbs is a great underground rap success story, a guy who bet on himself and kept doing great work in his own lane even after multiple major-label situations fell apart. Gibbs has never made a hit song in his life, and he’s gotten himself into a position where he doesn’t need to make hit songs — where he can just follow his instincts and keep his own style intact. Alfredo isn’t my favorite rap record of the year. (Even in the field of Alchemist-produced 2020 rap albums, I’d give the slight edge to Boldy James’ The Price Of Tea In China.) But the nomination for Alfredo is still a very cool surprise, the kind of thing that I would’ve never expected to see from the Grammy nominating committee.

And yet Gibbs’ nomination doesn’t exactly announce a new golden age of Grammy rap consideration, a time when Recording Academy voters are finally figuring out how to approach the genre. Instead, his nomination points toward something else: An institutional recognition of middlebrow, middle-aged, respectable rap music.

All of this year’s Best Rap Album nominees are Black men between the ages of 35 and 47. The oldest nominee is Nas, who is now on his fifth Best Rap Album nomination and who has never won the award. (The Best Rap Album Grammy didn’t exist in 1994, when Nas released Illmatic, but there’s no way in hell that Nas would’ve won it anyway. The Academy would’ve given the award to Coolio’s It Takes A Thief or something.) The youngest nominee is D Smoke, a former high school Spanish teacher who is also the brother of the TDE R&B singer SiR. D Smoke made his way into Grammy contention after winning the first season of Rhythm + Flow, the Netflix rap-competition show. (Two of the three judges from Rhythm + Flow, Cardi B and Chance The Rapper, have won Best Rap Album themselves. T.I., the other judge, has been nominated three times and never won.)

D Smoke isn’t exactly a revered or popular rapper, and I have’t seen anyone calling his perfectly-OK album Black Habits a masterpiece, though the man has certainly done better than anyone could’ve expected from a rap reality-show winner. But D Smoke raps exactly like a diet version of Kendrick Lamar, so his nomination works as a clear indication that the Grammy voters really, really wish they had a Kendrick album to nominate. D Smoke is also up for Best New Artist, alongside fellow rappers Chika, Megan Thee Stallion, and (I guess) Doja Cat. Presumably, Megan’s Good News would also be nominated if it had come out early enough to be eligible. Meanwhile, Chika hasn’t released an album, and Doja Cat is nominated in the pop categories, not the rap ones.

Instead, then, we’re looking at five guys hovering around the age of 40, all of whom are respected technicians with boom-bap inclinations. Jay Electronica, who’s nominated for A Written Testimony and who should probably be considered the front-runner, is technically a New Orleans native, but nobody thinks of him as a Southern rapper. (Jay-Z is all over A Written Testimony, to the point where anointing Jay Electronica feels a bit like throwing awards love to Jay-Z in a year with no Jay-Z album.) All the albums up for Best Rap Album are, at the very least, solid. A couple of them, Alfredo and A Written Testimony, are very good. But this is still a remarkably stodgy list — one that shows that the whole middle-aged respectability fetish that’s long plagued the Grammys is now embedded in its rap voting wing.

Freddie Gibbs and Nas and Jay Electronica and D Smoke and Royce Da 5’9″ are all gifted rappers who have done great work. Most of them could justifiably be considered legends. But none of them really show the world where rap music is, let alone where it’s going. By recognizing those albums, the Grammys have pointedly elected not to recognize something like Lil Baby’s My Turn, which is probably 2020’s most popular album in any genre and which is also a fine example of the 808-heavy depressive melodic-goo rap music that currently dominates the genre’s mainstream.

Other hugely popular, artistically important albums are also absent: Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake, Roddy Rich’s Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial, Polo G’s The Goat, Gunna’s Wunna, Rod Wave’s Pray 4 Love. Instead, the rap albums getting nominated are the 2020 equivalents of the Steely Dan album that famously beat Eminem. That’s not an indictment of the nominated albums. It’s an indictment of the stuff the Recording Academy values. It’s also a cautionary look of how things might look if the Recording Academy ever gets its way, if rap comes to rely on accepted ossified skill-sets instead of its current state of constant, furious stylistic evolution.

As someone who’s around the same age as this year’s Best Rap Album nominees, I’m not all that amped to see emotionally troubled, pill-gobbling 20-year-olds dominating rap music. But those kids are crucially moving the genre past whatever old men like me might want it to be. Fortunately, there’s at least one Grammy category that has done a pretty good job capturing where things are right now, and that’s Best Rap Song. The list of nominations there — Lil Baby’s “The Bigger Picture,” Roddy Ricch’s “The Box,” Drake’s “Laugh Now, Cry Later,” DaBaby’s “Rockstar,” and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” — isn’t necessarily perfect, but it’s a fairly accurate representation of the kind of rap that moves people right now. I don’t know why the division between the Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song nominees is so stark. Maybe it’s a signal that the album is increasingly irrelevant. Maybe it reflects two different voting bodies. Either way, it’s striking.

Look, the Grammys are weird. They are always going to be weird. Fiona Apple’s Fetch The Bolt Cutters should’ve been the biggest lay-up in the world, but it isn’t up for Album Of The Year. Instead, the Academy’s voters went for Coldplay and Jacob Collier and a deluxe edition of a Black Pumas album that didn’t even come out in the eligibility period. “Rockstar” and “Savage” are both up for Record Of The Year, but Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding is the only album that’s even rap-adjacent that’s nominated for Album Of The Year this year. I thought for sure that Lil Baby’s My Turn would be the token rap album that would inevitably lose to Taylor Swift. Instead, we didn’t even get one of those, and My Turn got snubbed even in its own category. Nothing makes sense.

But this year’s Best Rap Albums nominations still show a weird alignment between Grammy Voters and a certain streak of real-hip-hop rap conservatism. Watch out for that. Nothing good, except maybe a Freddie Gibbs Grammy win, will come out of that.

FURIOUS FIVE

1. Roc Marciano – “Downtown 81” It’s not on streaming services yet, but Roc Marciano’s new album Mt. Marci is out in the world now, and it is marvelous. (I can’t tell you whether the digital download is worth the $40 that Marci is charging on his website. Make your own financial decisions.) Right now, the only song out for general consumption is one of the few that Marci didn’t produce himself. (It’s a Jake One beat.) But otherwise, “Downtown 81” is exactly the sort of laid-back, intricately worded deadpan splendor that you can expect to hear on the LP, whenever it goes wide. So maybe that’s worth the price of a full tank of gas.

2. Meek Mill – “GTA” (Feat. 42 Dugg)

Meek Mill released his Quarantine Pack EP on Friday, and the track currently getting the big push is the downbeat Lil Durk collab “Pain Away.” But the real thrill here is in hearing Meek and 42 Dugg getting bracingly urgent over a Detroit-ass bassline.

3. Chief Keef & Mike Will Made-It – “Status” Sosa and Mike Will have evidently chosen to name their new song after this column. Gentlemen, I see this tribute, and I appreciate it. I love you too.

4. Willie The Kid & V Don – “Mother Of Pearls” (Feat. Eto) This is pretty.

5. Statik Selektah – “Play Around” (Feat. Conway The Machine, 2 Chainz, Killer Mike, Allan Kingdom, & Haile Supreme)

Once upon a time, maybe 13 years ago, I was apparently such a recognizable and influential part of the New York rap press that Statik Selektah noticed me at an MOP show, introduced himself, and tried to get me to listen to his mix CD. All these years later, Statik is a globally acknowledged boom-bap specialist with enough juice to put three of the world’s greatest middle-aged rappers on a track together. I’m proud of Statik. I bet he gets nominated for a Grammy someday.

Grammys 2020 Nominations✨

Ahhhhhh, one of my favorite days of the year is finally here! Grammy nominations day! 😍 I love the Grammys (and ever single other award show) but nonetheless, I get so excited every year. the Grammys are so special to me because being such a humongous music lover, seeing my faves getting recognized makes me so happy! Without further ado, lets get into some categories and some of my thoughts/predictions!

ALBUM OF THE YEAR:

Nominees: Cuz I Love You (Deluxe), 7, Norman Fucking Rockwell!, I Used to Know Her, thank u, next, I,I, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, & Father of the Bride.

Okay so, I love seeing Ariana (finally), Lizzo and Billie here. I am so unbelievably happy that Lana is here too! I am very surprised that Lil Nas X and H.E.R. are here. I like Lil Nas X but ALBUM OF THE YEAR? I guess maybe because he’s very versatile? IDK. I don’t understand H.E.R. being nominated, she’s a great artist but not ALBUM OF THE YEAR worthy. I understand Vampire Weekend and Bon Iver being here I guess too. I think everyone has a pretty good chance, I see it as, they were all nominated for a reason.

Who do I want to win? - Cuz I Love You (Deluxe), Norman Fucking Rockwell!, thank u, next, or WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?👑

RECORD OF THE YEAR:

Nominees: Truth Hurts, 7 rings, Old Town Road (Remix), bad guy, Hey, Ma, Hard Place, Talk, & Sunflower.

I think that this is the most solid category out of the big 4. I like all of these songs and I think that they all deserve their part here, even Bon Iver I guess. Seeing Ariana in the big 4 is so exciting.

Who do I want to win? - 7 rings or bad guy. 👑

SONG OF THE YEAR:

Nominees: Truth Hurts, Hard Place, bad guy, Lover, Norman Fucking Rockwell, Always Remember Us This Way, Someone You Loved, & Bring My Flowers Now.

This is a pretty good list. I love Norman Fucking Rockwell the song so much and never even thought it could be nominated but I’m so happy it was! Same with Lover!! I’m so happy that that song was recognized especially because Taylor wrote it by herself, that makes it so much more special (especially with all the legal stuff going on). Also, I’m SO happy Always Remember Us This Way was nominated! Such a great surprise! I’m happy Lewis Capaldi only got this one nomination, I was scared he was gonna take some of my favorites spots in other categories, but he didn’t. :)

Who do I want to win? - Lover. 👑

BEST NEW ARTIST:

Nominees: Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Rosalia, Black Puma, Yola, Maggie Rogers, Tanks and the Bangas.

Now, this category shook me up a little bit. I was expecting Billie, Lizzo, Maggie, Lil Was, & Rosalia but I was also expecting Megan Thee Stallion, Lewis Capaldi and maybe some new country singer to be in there. Boy was I wrong. I don’t mean any offense but who is Black Puma, Yola, and Tank and the Bangas? I’ve never heard of those three and didn’t see any of them in the prediction videos/articles I’ve been looking at this year. I’m also surprised this is Maggie Rogers only nomination, I expected her to get a lot of nominations.

Who do I want to win? - Billie Eilish. 👑

BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM:

Nominees: thank u, next, Lover, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, No. 6 Collaborations Project, THE LION KING: THE GIFT.

This is definitely my favorite category every year. Pop is my genre ever, always have been, always will. In this category I usually see my faves be nominated and this year is nothing less. The 3 top nominees are no surprise but the bottom two are. I did not expect No. 6 Collaborations Project & THE LION KING: THE GIFT to be nominated in a Pop Vocal Album category? There are collaborations on a majority of the songs so that’s what made me think it wouldn’t be nominated, anyways. After listening to The Lion King: The Gift again today, I do understand why it was nominated, Beyoncé sanggggg. I thought that the Jonas Brothers Happiness Begins and Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell would be nominated but at least they got nominated in different categories.

BEST POP SOLO PERFORMANCE:

Nominees: You Need To Calm Down, SPIRIT, 7 rings, Truth Hurts & bad guy.

Ahhh, my second favorite category. This actually might be my favorite of the year because... its all women! All of these women deserved this nomination, I’m so happy no one else or no man snuck in. It was such a great year for females in music, that it should be celebrated! I was surprised You Need To Calm Down was nominated, I thought Taylor would’ve put Lover in here. I was also surprised that Ariana submitted 7 rings, and not thank u, next. That’s the only complaint I have this year about Ariana’s nominations. thank u, next (the song) should’ve been nominated for something, its so iconic. I was also surprised about SPIRIT, but not mad about it.

Who do I want to win? - any of them, they’re all queens. 👑

BEST POP DUO/GROUP PERFORMANCE:

Nominees: Sucker, Boyfriend, Señorita, Old Town Road (Remix), & Sunflower.

I like this category a lot. Last year there were 7 songs nominated in this category, which was wayyyy too many. All of the songs in this category definitely deserved their nomination. I was surprised that Boyfriend made it in here, but no mad at all! I am upset that Dancing With a Stranger and Nothing Breaks Like a Heart didn’t make it in though, it would’ve been so great to see Normani and Miley nominated for something.

Who do I want to win? - Boyfriend or Señorita.

Snubs, Surprises & Other:

Album: A Star is Born, Lover, Igor, Girl.

Song: thank u, next is so iconic!! how can it not get nominated is the real question.

Record: Sucker deserved. It was such a big song this year and they had such a great comeback that I was pretty sure they were gonna get it, but I was wrong.

Country categories: Maren Morris was snubbed except for ONE category and it’s a collab with Brandi Carlile! GIRL was such a great album and just won Album of the Year at the CMA’s, so it really is such a disappointment that she was snubbed. Since she was snubbed, I want Thomas Rhett’s Center Point Road to win Best Country Album.

Rap: Chance the Rapper was snubbed for The Big Day, I loved that album, it’s one of my favorites of the year. He seemed like such a Grammy favorite, so that’s why this was surprising. No Megan Thee Stallion either, which is upsetting. Only one female is nominated in all the rap categories, Cardi B for Clout (which I am so happy for and hopes win because I love that song and her verse). I am happy J.Cole got so nominations also. Tyler, the Creator getting a Best Rap Album is great too.

R&B: Caution by Mariah Carey. One of the biggest queens of my entire life, Mariah, released one of her best albums of all time a year ago and I thought it had a good chance to get nominated in all 3 R&B categories, but it didn’t. I don’t understand the logic behind that though, it definitely could’ve fit. I am happy NAO got nominated, that album is great. And, I’m happy Lizzo got nominated for Jerome.
