Prompt 167
Honestly, Danny is having such a good time right now. He gets to travel with Ellie, explore space, just have fun. Plus his secondary protector-instincts are having soothed despite him not technically doing any hero-ing anymore. Really his sister had the right idea when she decided she wanted to become a doctor, this is honestly a blast.
And if someone does end up passing away, well, Ellie is always happy to help soothe their spirit and guide them to the Realms where they can reach their respective afterlife. Or become a ghost.
They are completely oblivious to the fact that there are now legends and entire temples dedicated to them now. Apparently accidental ascension is in fact a thing, as Dan later laughs at them about.

Ok I have woken up and had food.
Consider:
The Justice League have to defend earth from an oncoming alien invasion, but at the same time there had to prevent a summoning for an ancient evil in the form of a Ghost King.
The time frame for both events was exceedingly short.
So what did they decide to do?
Interrupt the summoning and instead make a deal with the Ghost King to aid them in the alien invasion.
When they do summon him, however, the Ghost King seemed offput that he was even summoned at all, despite the previous track record of him waging war with various worlds.
Pariah, looking at Superman: Ah, I have heard about you, child of Steel.
Superman: [Confusion]
So the Ghost King agrees to help them, to repay a favor that was owned to his parents. Everyone, even Superman thought it had to due with his parents on Krypton that, ya'know, exploded and are questioning what kind of thing they did to get the Ghost King to owe them a favor.
When the day of the Alien invasion came too, they expected either the Ghost King coming down himself, one of his soldiers or a small portion of his army.
Oh, they got an army alright. But not the army they expected.
The Ghost King himself even appeared, in Farmer's attire no less. He struck that pose where a person leaned back and looked to the sky and shouted a war cry, followed by loud, maniacal laughter.
Pariah: GO FORTH MY CHILDREN! DROWN THE EARTH IN THE BLOOD OF YOUR FOES AND BRING HELL DOWN UPON THOSE WHO DARED TEST YOUR MIGHT!
And what followed after his war cry was a flood of horses, both living and undead, covered in ghostly armor that ran through the streets and ascended into the sky to fend off the alien invasion throughout the city.
Of course, the Justice League also fought alongside the Ghost King's 'army' and succeeded in defending earth from the alien invasion. Surprisingly, or perhaps not surprisingly, none of the Ghost King's horses faced any significant injury.
Of course, the news took to it like sharks that smelled a drop of blood within the sea currents. Questions of who the meta is, where they found him and if he were a newfound member of the Justice League, some of the rich even asked if the Justice League could acquire them one of the horses.
Not that Pariah Dark, resident Ghost King and Farmer on earth, would let anyone by any of his children. They wouldn't even know how to or put in the proper care for them!
The favor he owned to Superman's parents weren't of his Kryptonian heritage, no. It was instead a one-sided repayment to the Kent's for gifting him a few rare living horses he didn't know how to acquire, they said he didn't need to pay them back, but he couldn't just leave such considerate and valuable gifts such as these without giving something in return.
Such opportunity came in the form of defending their home planet from an alien invasion.
On another note, the Kent's recognized the man on the internet is currently going crazy about as one of their neighbors. They were worried when they saw him on the scene, and after asked if he was okay.
Pariah(In human form): Foolish mortals, your worries on unfounded.
Clock 'well versed in Pariah decoding' work(in human form): He's very touched by your concern.
Pariah, feeling his face heat up in what human's call blush: My love!

Was Krypto Jor-El's dog? Or did their family have another pet?
Because think about it. Thanks to Cujo, we KNOW animals with unfinished business or strong attachments stay behind. We ALSO know from nigh COUNTLESS videos on the internet that pets get REALLY attached to pregnant moms and by extention, the new pack members.
Krpton was an Alien planet. Just because SOME of the animals there looked similar to earth animals, doesn't mean ALL of them do. Nor does it mean they ONLY domesticated dog like creatures or cat like creatures. They could have anything from vaguely bear-like to fox-ish to small moose but with more teeth.
It was a completely different ecology.
And Jor-El? Him and his wife had a CHOICE to make. They had A pod. Singular. Tiny. Not a ship, not an escape pod, not even a refurbished shipping container. Just a pod with life support and all the information about Krypton they could fit. A guidance system that, gods willing, would see their son to a safe and sympathetic planet to be raised by kind people.
THEY couldn't even fit.
How in the gods name would a large pet? Even a mid sized pet. Let us assume, for this prompt, that being scientists of high position? Pays or allocates pretty well. They have the room. The resources. When they got married, Jor-El's wife REALLY wanted a cub or pup or what have you, of some large-ish animal breed.
The equivalent of an earth mastiff dog. Just an Absolute UNIT. Used to be gaurds and working beasts, now more athletic pets then anything. Known to be great protecters of Their People.
And well... Jor-El WAS already starting to notice some things that were making him Less Than Popular... probably nothing (he had naively hoped, at the time.) But better to have a Just In Case. Sure, honey. Let's get one!
And they LOVED Snookums.
Snookums ADORED them AND the baby! Kal-El basically NEVER left Snookums sight. He slept beneath Kal's crib. Followed them everywhere they went, when they were holding Kal. Planted himself like Kal's Sworn Protector as the baby drooled all over his fur. It was the cutest thing EVER.
But then?
No. Dear Gods No. Please... Please let him be wrong!
He's not. He never is. He is too careful with his calculations. To the point of near paranoia. Maybe they can stop it. If they DO something. Act IMMEDIATELY...
But...
Well, we all now how that story ends. Two people, standing on a launch pad, tears streaming down their smiling faces, trying to memorize the last moment they'll ever see their son. Praying this will be ENOUGH.
That they aren't trading one terrible death for another.
Watching their son disappear into the sky. Flying home as the ground groan as shakes, trees toppling and people screaming. Panicking. Dying pointless deaths that could have been stopped.
Walking into the home that should have been where they spent their whole live. Where, in a way, they WILL.
Knowing they won't grow old.
Sitting on the floor with their confused, frantic, pet as fire starts to light up the horizon. As the ground shakes violently on last, terrible time. Knowing the lethal heat will hit them before their ears ever register the sound.
It's Over.
But! Where is Snookum's Baby Kal!?
They are scared, confused, and everything is LOUD AND RUMBLY. Very Bad. Don't like that. Their ADULTS come back home. BUT NOT THEIR BABY. Where is Baby Kal?! Snookums is a GOOD Boy and a GREAT Protector. It is in his blood.
Something BAD is happening.
Has? Happened?
Everything is GREEN.
But that does not MATTER. Snookums can not REST. Can not stay here! They must Sniff and search and hunt! Look for Kal! Who is SMALL and needs to be protected! What if he is HURT? How will he SLEEP!? With no Snookums to cuddle for nap time!?
But the universe is large. And there is no smell in space. (Well, there ARE. But they are Stinky Gasses and those do not help Snookums.) So it takes lots and lots of time. Until! He meets a glowing blue dog!
A hopeful corgi? What is a corgi? Irrelevant! The hopeful one knows of Snookums' Kal! Oh, thank you small friend! You indeed DO give hope! We shall go at once and Kal shall be safe and with family once more!
Meanwhile? Danny? Wakes up to a sticky note on his forehead from Clockwork. "Bring Cujo with you to meet the Justic League"? What? WHY? He loves the pup, but Cujo has never behaved himself in a formal setting ONCE in his doggy LIFE. Danny is trying to make a good first impression!
But... Clockwork doesn't Post-It lightly...
Guess he's breaking out the doggy bow ties. Great. Wonder what THIS is about...
Four and a half hours later? Watching Cujo playfully wrestle with the ghost of what HAS to be a Kryptonian... gonna saaaaay.... Bear-fox? Which nearly TACKLED Superman, freaked the ENTIRE Justice League out, and nearly got him STABBED by Etrigon. Yeah. That was a good call.
Congratulations on your new ghost pet, Superman. No, he's not leaving. It just kinda happens sometimes. It's how Danny got Cujo. Wanna do pet playdates?

DPXDC Prompt #79
Any language where it is not spoken commonly every day is considered a dead language and every ghost can speak it. Kryptonion is one of those languages, so when the planet Krypton along with her people died so did the language.
12 years go by and 12 year old Danny is on the run from the GIW with his sister and parents. They settle down on a farm and get Danny enrolled in school where he becomes friends with Clark Kent. Clark was one day acting a little upset and Danny wanted to help in anyway he could.
Clark was muttering to himself, specifically what that apparition that showed up in the weird ship he apparently arrived in. He just wanted to know what it meant. Danny understood him though.

do you ever think about how kara was always into art, but once she got to earth, nothing but the clothes on her back and her pod (she doesn't know about Alura's hologram yet), she throws herself into drawing and painting with an almost crazed fervor bc she wants to be able to paint krypton and her family as soon as possible because what if she forgets?
what if things get blurry and years later she'll forget how her father looked when he laughed, how her mother's eyes sparkled when she's trying to be stern but kara knows she's amused or how Argo City looked in its glory, its flora and fauna that she'll never see again
(and on bad days those last few moments, the world shaking itself apart, buildings crumbling, the ground fracturing apart and her parents trying so very hard not to cry, the fiery, silent explosion she witnessed in space before sleep overtook her because there is no word in any language to describe the sound of a planet as it dies but the closest kara has found is heartbreak)
for the longest time, she's the only one remaining who remembers krypton. and she doesn't want to forget

Bruce is an Alpha.
The words rang in Kal’s mind as he stared at Bruce clutching the ineffective suppressant to his chest, his frame shaking as the unmistakable scent of an Alpha close to a rut wafted off him. His eyes were also glowing, a sign of an Alpha in heightened arousal.
Now it all made sense. How Bruce was able to easily order his troops around during the hostage situation despite having no military rank or authority. How he barely flinched when he was negotiating with Kal’s uncle. He even stood toe-to-toe with Zor-El and nearly mauled his throat when Zor-El tried to use his Alpha voice on him. Kal had thought at first that Bruce was a genetic anomaly among Betas, but now he knew the truth. But there were no Alphas on Krypton except for those from the House of El, unless…
“You’re a Wayne,” Kal stated. Following a power struggle for the throne between the House of El and the House of Wayne generations ago, most of the Waynes were either executed or exiled to the distant planet Earth after they had lost the war.
Bruce gritted his teeth and averted his eyes. “Prince Kal-El, I know I have deceived you and deserve punishment according to the laws of Krypton. As your advisor, I should have known better.” He took a deep breath. “I have a final request to make. My foster father is ill…He wouldn’t be able to make the long journey to Earth. Please allow me to make the necessary arrangements for him before my execution.”
Kal’s lips thinned. He approached Bruce, ignoring the man tensing at having a potentially aggressive Alpha stand so close to him, and started rubbing his wrists on Bruce’s scent glands. Bruce stared at him with wide eyes. “What are you doing?”
“I’m hiding your scent with mine. I won’t let anyone hurt you or take you away from me. They’d have to do that over my dead body,” Kal snarled while Bruce just stared at him, completely baffled. “Is this why you were so eager to support my betrothal to the foreign Omegan princess? Well, I’m not going to agree to it. I will be the king one day, and you will rule with me by my side.”
“You’ve gone mad. Both of us will be killed for this,” Bruce said.
Kal rested his forehead against Bruce’s. “Since when are you afraid of a little bit of conflict, Bruce?” he murmured. His eyes glowed gold, mirroring Bruce’s own. “If they won’t say yes, we’ll make them say yes.”

Alien or Ghost?
I am once again offering random ideas that pop into my brain. As you can tell, the brain rot is strong for DC x DP.
Anyway, let's hop right into the idea for today!
~~~~~~
Halfas' as much as they share biology with ghosts, who in their own sense are a new species, are considered alien. Of course, not because they have human and ghostly abilities, but because Halfas WERE aliens. The origin of their race had been so uncertain, but seeing that they held a small planet close to Krypton, they were most definitely a species of Alien. They could hop between dimensions, though it seemed that this one and this planet was their home. No matter who left, they always returned. So when one day they didn't, it was believed the species was now extinct, seeing as they didn't know that Halfa have two ways of being "born".
Those who knew the most were the Kryptonians, being close allies to the friendly but powerful race. With Krypton destroyed, the only information that survived was that of a few estranged alien species' knowledge and documents in the Fortress of Solitude. Seeing as it wasn't important, being a deceased race and all, Superman paid his respects to the race but didn't spend much time looking over the details of the species. All he really maintained was their similar biology to beings referred to as Ghosts, and the ability to transform. It was also noted that Halfa, as strong as they were, developed powers in times of need or panic. Meaning the stronger the person, the worse they've had to protect themselves or others from.
Now, if he'd read a little more, he would have learned about how Halfa's had said before how, while they can have children, not every Halfa was born as Halfa's, it was something that made them special and made them care for one another so deeply. It was also why true Halfa were usually aligned to protect whatever it deemed family.
So when a group of young teens, led by Boy Wonder himself on a wayward mission, find a horribly ill-looking teen and are terrified. It does not help that the clothes he wore were tattered and through them, the team could see rushed and careless stitches. Nor did it make anything better that this mission was in a lab. A much too nice lab for supposedly illegal activity. And now the group knew why. So with chaos and teenage rage at seeing someone so young and so hurt, they absolutely destroy the lab in an attempt to get the other out. It goes as well as it can, but hey, they're out! Scolded by Batman, but out! And they took the kid!
The team is determined to help their unofficial new teammate, you could pry him from their cold dead hands this was almost exactly like how they got Conner and that had ended wonderfully- for the most part. Conner himself was very protective of the young boy, and Danny accepted that pretty quickly. It made most of them more than sure that he'd had a family, but none of them wanted to ask.
When Wally inevitably did, Danny physically freezes, sudden realizations hitting him like a truck. Danny's family was gone...for the most part. Jazz had been away for something, but his house had been attacked by the GIW, leaving Danny to expose himself to his parents before they tried to defend him. It didn't work. So the three Fentons were claimed dead, the house blown to pieces with nothing to find. Except, only his parents were actually gone. Sam and Tucker had no idea what had happened, Jazz probably knew he was alive...but that didn't make the situation much better, and Dani...she had been elsewhere, but surely she'd known by now.
Dan.
That was a much worse realization. Dan had been reformed after a long time out and very much taken an older brother role, Conner reminded him of that even if subconsciously, either way, he was the King of the Infinite Realms and he'd been missing. For months. Dan was more than definitely ready to tear the human realm apart.
With a tense chuckle, Danny said he was so dead when his siblings found him but never elaborated. They could tell it wasn't an actual danger to the boy, but it made the team curious. Either way, not his problem for now, so Danny just continues to stay with the YJL.
Eventually, Danny ends up sneaking with them to help on a mission and when the team is in danger, he snaps and near destroys everything around them, save his teammates, in a fit of rage. It's then that the JL realize their newest addition may be a bit strong for his age and control. So they plan to meet him. Lucky for Danny, Robin and Wally are allowed to come with!
The meeting starts with a lot of the JL, minus a well-known blue boy scout, he'd been busy working things out with Conner, his Ma had learned of the boy and really helped him figure out his issues(there was definitely a lot of yelling, and request to meet her grandson). Things are going alright, even with the boy's clear nervousness at seeing so many people. It's when Superman himself arrives that he freezes completely, staring at the boy in front of him as everything in his body screams this is another Alien. He doesn't quite know why, but the only non-martian alien who could possibly look this human that he knew of was meant to be extinct. Seeing how Martian Manhunter hadn't mentioned anything about the boy being possibly Martian, Supes was rightfully freaking out.
Superman, utterly confused and slightly happy: YOU'RE A HALFA
Danny, surprised and terrified out of his mind that he's been outed so easily: UHHH-
Obviously, the right thing to do in a panic? RUN AWAY. So off Danny goes, fleeing as if his life depends on it. I mean, who can blame him? In Superman's eyes, this is the last known being of his species, unless they were in hiding, and to Danny, this man just stated to a room full of possible enemies if he ever oversteps a boundary exactly what he is. Not to mention the whole Halfa hunted like sport when Pariah Dark was alive stuff he'd learned from Clockwork at some point.
His recent recklessness gave quite a few people, good and bad, a hint of his location. A mix of joy, worry, and anger is present from all sources alike.
WIP excerpt from "Krypton lives and Kara did not sign up for this".
“Yes,” Kara says instead of anything about war crimes. She doesn't want to stress the kids out right now. Especially when they clearly don't have the context to understand what she's actually upset about, given what she knows of them so far.
“Why?” Match asks, still obviously incredulous. It might be the most expressiveness she's seen from him so far. That level of reservation is normal, coming from another Kryptonian that she’s just met. But Kal kept gushing excitedly about how emotive and expressive Earthlings are every time he called, so . . . is it actually that Match is reserved, or is it that he really just isn't feeling anything?
Or is he just that unwilling to show any trace of an actual personality?
There really isn’t a good option there, she’s pretty sure.
“Because I want you to like it,” Kara says. “So: sweet, savory, or spicy?”
“. . . uh,” Thirteen says as Match just stares at her like he thinks she’s sun-drunk. “Is the . . . ‘bai’ fruit the healthiest one, or . . . ?”
“It’s a dessert, kid,” Kara says. “None of them are ‘healthy’.”
Milk rice isn’t unhealthy, necessarily, but that’s not the point of a damn dessert, now is it.
“Uh,” Thirteen says, then looks . . . anxious, for a moment, before visibly drawing himself up and steeling himself to blurt: “Spicy.”
“Okay,” Kara says, envisioning backwater-planet war crimes before glancing to Match. “What about you, then? You like spicy?” Kal doesn’t, but Kal wasn’t built in a lab and raised on Earthling MRES.
Match just stares blankly at her, the corner of his jaw tightening.
Maybe she shouldn’t have phrased it as “like”, she thinks, and once again considers calling up Atrocitous with her ring size. No reason. Just because.
Two very specific reasons, actually, but also ten thousand reasons.
“There’s three of us,” Kara points out. “I can just make all three.”
“‘Dessert’ isn’t nutritionally useful,” Match says, his tone flat and expression bland. Thirteen half-eyes him, looking both restless and like he wants to say something. She’s still not sure how well they get along; still isn’t sure how to expect them to get along, especially once they’ve both settled in. Kal was not helpful on those grounds.
She’s also still not over how awkward both their dialects sound. Especially with the memory of Kal at their “age” so easy to revisit in her mind. He never looked or sounded a thing like either of them, even with the exact same face and voice. He definitely also didn’t have the muscle definition they do, which those bizarre tight outfits of theirs do absolutely nothing to conceal.
Kal could’ve at least gotten them an over-robe or two, for Rao’s sake. Fuck, five minutes off-planet and he loses all sense of decorum and rational thought. This is why no one wants his job! This! This is why!
. . . also the unsolicited cloning thing, she supposes. Also that.
Only Kal would manage to get his DNA stolen on a planet called “Earth”, of all the godsdamned places.
Supercorp - Rehashing the Fallout once more
Today's menu: Kara Danvers' Double-Standards.
I am rewatching Supergirl, and it occurred to me why I am with Lena on the "you lied to me" point. (Not the brain-wash the planet or taking a year to get over herself and realize her own - horrible - mistakes parts, though.) Not because of the lie itself or its content, but its context with Kara's very own history!
Let's take a walk...
In the pilot Kara gets mad at Alex for her having kept her double-life as a DEO agent secret from her.
Tumblr media
Kara is utterly disappointed and distraught at the secrets her parents kept from her (Medusa, Myriad), some of which affected her directly (Krypton's impending destruction).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kara finds out that James is Guardian before he told her and she was pretty upset, explains it's because they are humans throwing themselves into danger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When J'onn explains to Kara how bonded Martians share their minds, Kara expresses how she thinks the “no secrets, no lies” sounds “beautiful”.
Kara ends their relationship with Mon-El over him lying about his true identity (and him being the Prince of a cruel society), ignoring him when he said he tried several times to tell her. When Mon-El let himself into Kara's apartment to apologize, he BEGS for forgiveness
Tumblr media
but Kara says she deserved better than being lied to… Yes, she secretly forgave him at this point but still breaks up with him (Rhea told her to do so) and cries over it.
Tumblr media
Music Meister teaches Kara (and Barry): “Love is about letting yourself be saved, it's not just about saving other people.”
Tumblr media
Trust.
Lillian tells Kara, she doesn't need to spill SG's identity, because when Lena FINDS OUT, it'll be so much worse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(And Lillian was SO on point!)
When Kara and Clark spar and have a heart-to-heart, Kara wonders if she can have it all, Clark assures her about the most important people make keeping the secret worth it and how letting (only) those important people in IS enough. Later, asked the same questions, Cat tells Kara that women have the guts to be vulnerable, lists her accomplishments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kara does not take Lena possessing some of Lex's Kryptonite nor the whole Sam/Reign-secret kept from her well. Gets even angrier when Lena creates her own Kryptonite (in her quest to fight/cure Reign …and cancer and other human ailments).
Tumblr media
Or Mon-El hesitating to tell and keeping from Kara about his time-travelling, marriage and his actual mission…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That is up until mid-s03 and not even counting the many times how the show also taught us through Alex', J'onns and Lena's lenses that lying and pretending to be someone one is not to those important/close to oneself, is harmful to their (romantic and platonic) relationships and themselves.
Do I need to go on?
Tumblr media
...Kara is clearly fully aware at that point that secrets (even her own) do not bode well in any type of relationships she would like to have and keep.
And, yes, I am fully aware of the "point of no return" argument, in all its validity, that at some point the lies had stacked up so much, that the hurt was inevitable, the fear of rejection more and more founded, of Kara wanting to be "just Kara" with Lena… Every season, every in-show year that passed and Kara kept her secret(s), it became impossibly harder to come clean. But, re-watching the show, it just seems so… irresponsible? And the more often Kara makes a point herself being lied to is a bad thing, even …hypocritical.
I am not saying any of the people who lied to or kept things from Kara were in the right or wrong - a totally different discussion that would require individual assessment. But, Kara, making the same point over and over again? Several times about the very topic of hidden/fake identities and double-lives… But then proceeding to keep her proclaimed best friend in the dark about herself, still?
Yeah, that bugs me. A lot.
IMO, after the whole Mon-El returned thing Kara would or should have had an epiphany about telling Lena the truth about herself… but then Reign beat her into a coma and all kinds of hell broke loose.
Tumblr media
But… Yeah. Not even for Supercorp reasons. But internal logic.
From a story-writing perspective; you have your (main) character face a (similar but slightly different) situation a couple times before they learn their lesson. You plant the seeds (in this case: identity reveal) and then have it play out, based on what the character had learned(!) this far. And you have them deal with the worst-case-scenario backlash, if you need any for drama's sake, but it should make some level of sense… Instead they had Kara learn nothing, had her lie to Lena for another two years, and turned Lena into a spiraling madwoman. And Kara… well, now in Mon-El's shoes, could not quite understand how Lena (in Kara's former shoes, but with much more tainted personal experiences) was deeply, intimately hurt, devastated, and struggling.
Kara saw this coming - but tbh, when Lillian spoke so (unintentionally) truthful, Kara should have focused on the implied "if someone ELSE but you tells her", and when talking to Kal, realized that he didn't keep his secret FROM his most important people (Lois, James…) to protect them. Taken Cat's advice to have the guts to be vulnerable to reap Lena's long-term trust instead of settling for "for now this works, right?".
Not to mention that the whole show over and over stressed, that Kara could "have it all" without revealing herself to the world (the 100th episode even making a point that telling the world WILL put her loved ones at risk) or deciding on one half of herself, but then the show ended, and… yeah… I guess, some sort of witness protection for everyone?
Tumblr media
No more casual strolls for "just Kara" through the park…
Tumblr media
I adore the show, but… continuity?
It's just a bit painful to re-watch the show and watch Kara fault and shame others over and over again, only to go ahead and do the thing herself... Aware, yet oblivious. And NOBODY calls her out on it. (The one time Alex asked her and Kara was all like "I had to take the dog to the vet" is too little too late.)
Tumblr media
Thankfully the fandom is so amazingly creative <3
#Kue out.
Art request: Bruce and Clark as a married official royal couple. Think one of those royal portraits they hang every where in embassies of monarchies. Because fuck it, that would make me so happy to see these two as heads of state, annoyed and happy at the same time, with every subject having to see their goofy mugs whenever they need to renew their driver licence.
i turned this over in my head and ended up thinking of... politically motivated arranged marriage. krypton is on the cusp of either taking over earth or creating an alliance with humanity. kal is OFC the prince. and he pushes for a marriage with an earthling to prove humanity's sentience & make it generally accepted on krypton. (he is sooo against war <3) the justice league is struggling to choose what monarch to ask to go to an alien planet when batman, the unknown mystery, comes out as bruce wayne and argues that in global capitalism a capitalist is a type of neo-royalty and he should be the victim. (he is capable of self defense & learning kryptonian, and he loves being a martyr <3) and when they meet bruce is soooo mad that the prince is really kind and hot actually and he is falling in love for real. and kal is like wow :) i really lucked out! my groom is smart and sexy. too bad he hates me???
anyway portrait from when they first got married
(The lines above are canon.)
Kara curled up against the wall, head forward resting on her knees, taking slow breaths from her place inside Lena’s containment cell. “You’re the last worldkiller,” Alex had said, as Kara felt powercuffs around her wrists.
It explained… too much. Why Jindah had named three worldkillers to come after Reign. Why Kara didn’t see them all in her vision. Why… why she would have strange dreams of her mother’s magic.
She’s free too, Kara mourned.
Her mind drifted to the soothsayers - not just the whispers on Krypton that spoke of an eternal darkness, but the myths on Earth that she had discovered after landing. In some stories, the world was created and destroyed over and over again. Some cultures believed the world would be destroyed by fire - in others, by ice. And in yet another myth, there were four harbingers to the apocalypse.
But they didn’t arrive on horseback - they arrived in kryptonian pods.
Kara tilted her head back, feeling the pang in her chest of irreparable frustration, inescapable fear. She had fought so hard to understand herself - how Kara Zor-El could become Kara Danvers could become Supergirl, how each aspect of herself held a story, but never formed a complete picture. And she wished she could be Kara, just Kara. But at least those competing versions of herself could coexist. This one…
Her mind drifted back to Sam, and Julia and Grace - to how they transformed, how they lost control. Kara knew in her soul that Lena and Alex would try everything to save her. But there was no guarantee that she would be separable like Sam. She would certainly let them try.
And if they couldn’t - she knew what needed to be done. I’m Power, Kara thought. And I won’t let myself destroy this planet.
This is a companion ficlet for my Worldkiller Kara AU, Darkness in All Things (fic is COMPLETE, with a reveal & a Happy Ending).
Unfriendly Competition
Tumblr media
Title: Unfriendly Competition Pairing: Kara Danvers x Reader Summary: Y/n's arrival on Earth is ruined by Mon-El and Kara's blooming relationship. R WC: 1492
Kara's heart was racing as she stared down at the lifeless body laid out on the medical table. The years had changed her, but Kara was certain that she was looking at her old friend Y/n. Memories of their time spent on Krypton together playing flooded Kara's mind. She wiped away a few stray tears as she heard footsteps coming down the hallway. Kara stood up a little straighter as she felt Alex step in behind her, just close enough to wrap her arm around the back of Kara's shoulders.
"Did you know her?" Alex asked. Kara nodded as she sighed and pulled herself away from watching Y/n. "It looks like she'll make a good recovery."
"Y/n has always been a fighter, but I don't even know what happened to her," Kara whispered. She was terrified of watching one of the last Kryptonians die off right in front of her. There wouldn't be anything for her to do if Y/n didn't pull through. That set in a deep fear in Kara for the weeks until Y/n had finally woken up. Even after that, Y/n was impossibly small and weak. There was Kryptonite poisoning evident in her blood that even the DEO doctors were having a hard time getting out of her. Months and months of that resulted in Y/n being physically weaker than she should have been, not quite as weak as humans, but nowhere near as strong as Kara or her cousin were.
"You know, I've been here for years, but I never really got to see the world," Y/n said as she flew around National City with Kara. Y/n stared at Kara like she had placed all of the stars and planets in space herself, but Kara didn't seem to notice. Occasionally, Y/n swore that she caught Kara looking at her the same way, but it was only for a half second at a time. It was hard having all of those feelings from her youth resurface, but instead of being dealt with, Y/n once again had to let them sit and fester.
"A few more weeks of training like this and I'm sure that you'll be flying anywhere you want," Kara said. Y/n didn't feel like she was making many, if any, improvements with her strength and powers, but Kara insisted that wasn't true. It was almost perfect being around Kara again, but as with everything in Y/n's life, there had to be one giant catch. "Maybe you and Mon-El can train together, I'm sure it would be very good for the both of you."
"Maybe." Y/n didn't want to brush Kara off like that, but she really didn't want to spend a moment more with Mon-El than she had to. The man obviously wasn't a Kryptonian like them, but Kara couldn't see past the idea that they could start a whole new line of Kryptonians. Y/n didn't want to be uppity about him, but she was almost certain that he was a Daxamite. She had spent quite a bit of time on Daxam with her parents in an attempt to broker peace before Krypton was destroyed.
Their flying lesson was cut a bit short when Kara had to go answer a call to action. Y/n opted not to come along with her, feigning weakness instead. She went back to the DEO, where they had been keeping her in a holding cell for the time being. It was really starting to become her own space, and it was a nice place for her to get away from Kara and Mon-El sometimes. Kara had been upset whenever Y/n told her that she wouldn't be moving into Kara's apartment with her, but Y/n thought it was best to be alone than to be subjected to watching the woman she loved falling further in love with some guy.
"It's a bit more believable that you're tired when you don't spend your time resting in the combat simulator," Alex said from behind Y/n. Y/n jumped and turned around to face Alex, who was giving her a sympathetic look. "How was the flying today?"
"Great until she suggested that I train with her boyfriend to build my strength," Y/n muttered, somewhat angrily. Alex sighed as she pushed herself up from the wall and approach Y/n. Alex had been dealing with Y/n's moodiness from Mon-El and Kara's relationship as well as Kara's sadness from the sudden absence of her best friend. There were a lot of parts to the situation that Alex really didn't have the time or patience to handle, but she was trying.
"I'm not saying that you should get to know him because I don't really like him, but for Kara's sake, give him a chance. She misses you. She thinks that she's done something horribly wrong," Alex sighed. Y/n pinched the bridge of her nose. The last thing she wanted was for Kara to think them not hanging out was directly her fault, even if it was. Alex smirked as she took Y/n's obvious frustration as a sign of defeat. She wasn't sure how well things would go, but all Alex could ask for was that Y/n spent a bit more time around Kara, with or without Mon-El.
Hanging out with Kara and Mon-El was just as painful as Y/n had expected it to be. Both of them were very much locked in their own world with each other, a world that Y/n didn't feel she had any place in. Alex had tagged along with them and it was hard for her to watch as Mon-El demanded Kara's attention. Y/n sort of sat back and shrank into herself as she downed some of the otherworldly alcohol at the bar. Alex kept an eye on her, and waited until Y/n stumbled away to play pool with some other aliens to finally talk to Kara.
"Come with me," Alex said as she grabbed Kara's wrist. Kara quickly excused herself as she let Alex drag her away from the table and to a more secluded part of the bar by the bathrooms. "What is your issue?"
"I could ask you the same thing," Kara huffed. "But why don't you tell me what my issue is?"
"How the hell can you stay with that loud, obnoxious asshole at the table when you've got the sweetest girl staring at you like you're her entire world? I get that you can be kind of oblivious sometimes Kara, but Jesus Christ, Y/n has been suffering this whole night because she didn't want you to think that she doesn't want to be around you anymore," Alex said. Kara made a face as she looked over at Y/n. It was the first time in a while that she had really gotten a good look at her friend, and admittedly, Y/n did look much more sad than usual. "She's been through hell and back, don't put her through it again."
"I don't mean to. I-it wouldn't be right to just leave him like this," Kara said. Alex could tell that she was conflicted.
"Do what you want, but don't ruin what could be the best thing for you," Alex warned. Kara nodded and went back at the table to think things over. It was a no-brainer, but Kara was still hesitant to do what she knew she had to. Alex watched Kara from the pool table where she was keeping Y/n company. Every so often, Y/n would sneak a glance over at Kara, but Kara was so deep in thought that she didn't even notice it. Eventually, Y/n let herself get fully involved in the pool game, to the point where she didn't notice Kara striding right up to her in an almost confrontational way.
"Y/n, we need to talk," Kara said confidently. It sounded almost like a child trying to be intimidating, but Y/n listened to her anyway. "I'm sorry for not paying enough attention to you. I got ahead of myself and lost sight of what was really important to me. Please forgive me."
"You could have dropped me off of the Empire State Building and I would have forgiven you before I hit the ground," Y/n joked. Kara sighed in relief as she threw herself into Y/n's arms in a hug. Y/n thought it was going to end there, but Kara pressed a quick kiss to the corner of her mouth as she pulled back. "What about Mon-El?"
"Like I said, someone reminded me of who is really important to me. I don't know what I'd do without you in my life, but I never really knew that man," Kara said. Y/n smiled as she leaned into Kara's arms again, finally able to rest there safely.
So a thought I've been having for a few weeks now of kryptonians and mild colour blindness. Like, if they lived under a red sun, and predominantly lived there, they probably had *some* colour blindness, right?? I mean, i guess they couldve been genetically engineered for that to like. Not happen but then I'd be petitioning for them to have a wayyy wilder sense of sight and perception of colours. Anyway it also led to mild colourblind kara thoughts and her arguing with everyone about it djdjdkf
rip you just opened one of my special interest barrels and im supposed to be working LMAO
Ok honestly I've wondered about that too bc if Krypton is a red sun planet and they supposedly had flora and fauna before the war that inevitably collapsed the planet, it would be adapted to that darker "sweet spot" for life to grow. Like would the plants be darker (blacks, deep greens, purples, reds?) and would the animals and kryptonians have altered vision and metabolism to make up for the lack of light? Like would we be seeing more bioluminescence (let kara glow in the dark, it would be funny)? Would they have better low light vision and even dark vision? Would they have heightened hearing or even echolocation?
It is canon that kryptonians started growing clones of themselves to use as basically free extra parts to extend their lives during the golden age (i may be getting a few details wrong here, it's been a minute since i looked at my notes and stuff) (The reason the civil war began is bc anti-clone kryptonians wanted to prove that those bodies were real people (and they did! bodily and mental autonomy for the win!).). SO it is very plausible that there was more genetic engineering to benefit their race and their existence on this red sun planet since most of the population was using this technology as opposed to natural birth. That would make a more interesting take on Kara's senses and powers on a yellow sun planet since she was supposedly conceived in one of these tubes (kal/clark was the first kryptonian in generations to be created (lol) the "old" way bc he had the luck of his parents loving each other and not solely together for political purposes via the matricomp).
Also it would just lead to some really cool ways to play with her powers, give a different way to play with her heat vision and x-ray vision (even her hearing), and kick off a huge social media hubub when Supergirl accidentally reveals that she's weirdly color blind.
Alright, let's make one thing clear.
The only Flamebird on Earth is Bette Kane and it's NOT a mantle that you can slap on to whoever you ship Dick Grayson with. I don't care if you think Geoff John's 2009 retcon of Nightwing/Flamebird being romantically reincarnated gods is poetic or fitting. Please stop using Flamebird in name only because you want a character to be "closer" to Dick.
Wally West is the Flash. Keep him as the Flash, a mantle that ALREADY holds a ton of meaning to him. He doesn't need a different name to be shipped with Dick. The exact same goes for everyone else: Kory is Starfire, Barbara is Oracle, Roy is Arsenal/Red Arrow, etc.
There's absolutely no reason that they need a new name just to be paired with Dick. They are perfectly great characters ON THEIR OWN WITH THEIR OWN NAMES AND HISTORIES ATTACHED TO THOSE NAMES. (If you read any Nightwing or Titans comics, then you'd also know that someone's hero name has zero bearing on their relationship with Dick.)
In fact, the Nightwing/Flamebird retcon doesn't even fit Dick's version of Nightwing. Clark gave Dick the name and history of Nightwing pre-retcon, when the name was of a Kryptonian hero - not a god. It has meaning to Dick as the name of a vigilante who operated similarly to him on Krypton, the meaning of an independent hero - which is what he wanted when Clark gave him the name. If you really want to go there, then the Nightwing and Flamebird of Krypton/Kandor were more like the Batman and Robin of their planet and thus, would not work well romantically.
I hate to say it, but Flamebird ALSO doesn't work as a vigilante mantle to pass on to a potential sidekick/partner to Nightwing. You cannot give it to Tim or Damian or Jason because Bette still exists.
Bette Kane has held the name since 1989. She's still using it as of 2023. By now, the identity of Flamebird is just as intrinsically tied to Titans West as it is tied to Superman. The mantle of Flamebird on Earth is tied to Los Angeles-California, to Titans West, to the history of Bette's character. She is her own independent vigilante, and Flamebird is a SOLO hero who has historically only ever teamed up with either Titans West or Beast Boy.
You wanna argue that Bette taking Flamebird as a name was a joke by the writers because she had a crush on him? Then also take in the fact that Bette has made the name her own since then.
You want to make someone else Flamebird? Then write something where Bette gives the name to them. It's her mantle to give. And if you really don't like her, then write Clark or Kara giving it to them.
Every single mantle, every name, in a comic has its own meaning. There's going to be someone out there, a character, that took that name and made its identity their own. Just as you cannot throw the Robin name onto any child/teen character, you cannot throw the Flamebird name onto anyone who's in any way connected to Dick.
krypton discussion hell yeah!! i definitely think language preservation would be one of the key factors of keeping the kryptonian identity alive for clark and kara. as a child of immigrants there’s a grief to being removed from your homeland, even if you didn’t grow up connected to it for most of your life. the sense of not belonging where you are as you navigate the world takes a toll on your sense of self. for clark, knowing that there’s so little left of his heritage to preserve must be painful, even more so for kara who actually lived for years with a planet and people that no longer exist. idk i guess i wish we could see more of this explored in dc media. diasporas typically have an inherent tragedy to them
I agree 100% anon. There's so much to explore with a diaspora lens within Clark's character and Kryptonian lore in general. He and Kara are similar in so many ways, but often their own origins draw a stark contrast between them, because Kara knew Krypton, and Clark never did -- and those experiences both come with their own pains and joys. And they are both the future of Krypton -- because they have to be.
What happens if Kara or Clark never have children? What if Clark never learned Kryptonian? Whose responsibility is the weight of an entire culture and history? Is it fair to expect him and Kara to bear that burden?
"I could tell you really important parts of this story, which is more than a tease. This is something we were trying to do; we debated a lot about it in live action, and it just was financially impossible to do, which is, the origin story of young Megatron and young Optimus. If you know the origin, they started as friends, and over time things devolved for them and they ended up on two sides. So we're telling the young Optimus and the young Megatron story. We really are telling the origin story of all Transformers, both what they were at the beginning of it, to how they grow, to how they grow apart."
"We’re hoping that there is enough emotional construct to that, that would lead to a trilogy of it because, personally, I think there's a natural trilogy. I'm not always looking to do multiple movies, but there's a natural trilogy around their relationship. So, you're going to see Cybertron in a way you've never seen it, that no one's ever seen it before. Because we're doing an animation, we're allowed to really go all out. If you tried to make this live-action, it would probably be a billion-dollar movie or something."
"You're going to see a lot of the origins of the society, and what broke it apart. The analogy for me is a bit like Krypton when you saw the planet falling apart, and all that. We're not there for a short time, we're there the entire time of the movie, we're on Cybertron, but we are in the challenge that, if you know the lore, they begin to question the hierarchy of how their society has gotten stratified, and how the common man doesn't have the voice, entirely, that they want to have. We're following very true to the origin story of it, and so it's really fun, too, because I've gotten to see some of it – it's not fully executed by any stretch of the imagination, but hearing Optimus and Megatron not as who we know them as, which we see their maturation in this experience. So, in a sense, you're hearing a different character because you're hearing them before they have matured."
"It's not a coming-of-age story. I don't think you’d believe that, in a way, but I would say they're young men who are finding their path. Like I said, it's more than a tease, that's what the story is, and that's the experience you're going to go through. And how they question society, just like all of us, too, could question our society. We’re maybe not as strong as Megatron and Optimus, so maybe we wouldn't make the same choices, but I think it's really going to be an eye-opener for the fans. For the non-fans, you're going to get to meet the characters in their early formation."
"I would say this, we don't spend a lot of time thinking about two and three because it's always hard to do one well. But there is a natural trilogy coming out of this friendship where you can see the divisions and the possible attractions to each other, and why that should play out over three movies, is very natural. So we have a good sense in the broadest terms, but in the broadest terms, we know what the second movie would be about and the third movie would be about through the eyes of what this relationship's going through. So the exact plotting, we haven't worked on that, but how that relationship evolves, devolves, evolves, devolves, all that stuff, that's what's going to drive it if we get lucky, if the first one's a success."
~ Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Producer of both Rise of the Beasts and the new, unnamed animated Transformers film due next year
