Todoroki Enji's father's death and why he feels he's not a superhuman: observations, ramblings and speculations

So, since recently I've gotten asks about it, I ended up thinking more and more about the whole flashback regarding Enji's father's death and why he connects it to his weakness and to how he feels he'll never be a superhero while Deku or All Might are.

So, as usual what follows is a theory. I don't assume to be Horikoshi and therefore know the truth. I'm just theorizing.

Now, let's start with rewatching the full scene from chap 356 for who doesn't remember it well.

'Sara ni yowaku natta’ 「更に弱くなった」 “You became beyond weak.”

'Tachiba to tsugunai to ayamachi to sekinin ga’ 「立場と償いと過ちと責任が」 “Position, atonement, mistakes and responsibility.”

'Omae no seirai no yowasa wo abaki dashi miru ni taenai guzu e to hikizuri oroshita’ 「おまえの生��の弱さを曝き出し見るに堪えない愚図へと引きずり下ろした」 “Your innate weaknesses was exposed and I can’t bear to see how you were dragged down into an indecisive person.”

'Chōjin ni wa narenainda yo Enji (omae) wa’ 「超人にはなれないんだよ炎司（おまえ）は」 “Enji (read: you) can’t become a superhuman.”

'Genten wo omoi dase’ 「原点を思い出せ」 “Remember your origin.”

'Teki ga nan datta no ka wo’ 「敵が何だったのかを」 “What was the enemy?”

'Akkan kara shoujo wo sukuou to shi kekka shoujo moro tomo nikukai to ka shita chichi wo’ 「悪漢から少女を救おうとし結果少女もろとも肉塊と化した父を」 “Your father tries to save a girl from a scroundel and, as a result, he and the girl were turned into a lump of meat.”

’Shin no choujin he no senbou to higami wo’ 「真の超人への羨望と僻みを」 “Your envy and inferiority complex toward a true superhuman…”

'“Doryoku (‘Endeavor’)” to nanoru hikutsu na shoune wo’ 「“努力” （エンデヴァー）と名乗る卑屈な性根を」 “You called yourself ‘effort’ (read 'Endeavor’) due to your menial nature.”

'Kojishite inakereba tamotenu teido no minikui kokoro wo’ 「誇示していなければ保てぬ程度の醜い心を」 “Unless you’re putting on airs you can’t sustain your ugly heart”

'Sou. Omae wa All Might ni mo Deku ni mo narenai' そうおまえはオールマイトにもデクにもなれない “Yes. You can't become All Might or Deku”

'Enji (read: Ore) wa itsumo jibun no yowasa to shika tatakattenakatta kara' 炎司(おれ)はいつも自分の弱さとしか戦ってなかったから “Because Enji (read: I) was always fighting only against his (my) own weaknesses.”

'Dakara umare kawarou nante kangaeruna' だから生まれ変わろうなんて考えるな “So don’t think about being reborn.”

'“Onore no yowasa (teki)” wo noroi tsudzukero' “己の弱さ (てき)"を呪い続けろ “Keep cursing 'your own weakness (read: the enemy)'.”

'Yuiitsu sore dake ga omae wo ikashite kita dakara' 唯一それだけがおまえを生かしてきただから “That is the only thing that kept you alive.”

As I've said more than once recently, on the surface there seems to be too few info on Enji's father's death to judge things beyond that the visual seems to suggests Enji seems in shock and in pain at witnessing his father's death.

But in hindsight the fact that there's so little might be because Horikoshi actually placed a relevant information through which lenses we should read the scene earlier in the manga and it's a relevant information as it's one of the core themes of the story.

Let's go back to chap 1 and to Midoriya's question.

Which was All Might's first reply?

Without power (力 'Chikara') one can't become a Hero and Enji's life is a quest for power, for strength. He thinks in order to surpass All Might one needs more power, more strength.

However we know how chap 1 actually ends...

Enji's origin (that's how his teenager self called it) isn't one of him acting to save people. It's of him watching the scene.

The narrative implication of depicting him there might be that he was always present and didn't jump to action, he froze, he watched.

His father moved to save people, failed and died.

Enji could have gone to help him and this might have done the difference. He'll never know because he didn't do it.

He froze same as he froze when Natsuo was attacked.

Same as he froze when Touya attacked Shouto and tried to kill himself and his brother...

...and, in a way, same as he failed to save Touya because he didn't go to Sekoto Peak.

The message Horikoshi tried to deliver home with that scene and that speech might be tied to all this.

Enji didn't have that self sacrificing instinct that instead pushed Midoriya to move. For most of his life he tried to protect his own heart by blaming others and dodging responsibilities and pushing on his children the burden of erasing him of the ugliness in his heart.

He fights it to be a Hero, and chases power because that's an 'easy way' to win. If you're stronger you don't have to risk your life, you can easily overcome fear of death by never being in danger either.

Yes, yes, I know Enji risks life in his fight with Shigaraki and with All for One. The point might be though is he's putting his life in danger by fighting himself, his own weakness, by raging against it and finding strength to overcome his own fear through rage.

And that's why his decision to die with Touya might be twice as important for his arc (I've already talked about his arc here and here but just in terms of his atonement... not of him trying to become a Hero to be proud of... or a father). As said in another post Enji never planned for his demise prior to that moment, he assumed he would keep on living watching over Touya.

He's not raging here to overcome his fear of death. He's doing it just because he doesn't want to let his son die alone and because he wants to still protect the people.

He's being a father and a Hero.

But... I can hear you thinking 'he's not saving Touya'.

Yeah, because he's fighting down with an image of a Hero who's self sacrificing... but BNHA subverts the trope of the self sacrificing Hero.

While death might be sometimes inevitable an ultimate Hero in the story is a Hero who save by winning and win by saving.

The story has criticized the idea of self sacrificing more than once from the start, with Aizawa and Recovery Girl telling Midoriya it wasn't okay for him to break his bones to win, that he couldn't become a Hero this way, Recovery Girl also scolding All Might and telling him he shouldn't encourage him to act this way to culminate with the end of the Dark Hero arc in which such mindset is openly criticized.

Enji overcame his belief he couldn't sacrifice his life if he wasn't raging against himself. He was ready to die... but then Shouto stepped him and showed him that an ultimate Hero isn't just one who's willing to die to save people but one that by saving people wins.

Shouto (with the help of his family) freezes Touya, and by saving Touya and stopping him from exploding, he saved all the other people who would be involved in the explosion.

The whole ultimate Hero thing is likely going to reach its apex with Midoriya not only managing to physically save Shigaraki like Shouto did with Touya or emotionally saving him like Uraraka did with Himiko but saving him both physically and emotionally and this leading to the rest of the world to be saved, accomplishing what will be likely the ultimate saving... possibly doing so with the help of others and of society so as to remark that a world based on a single pillar is not really functional, everyone has to contribute to keep peace.

At least, that's what I'm currently speculating. Of course I can be completely off track because I'm not Horikoshi and I don't get to know what he's planning.

Tuesday Costream: Valheim Mountain Time

Costream today! We're hopping back to Valheim, continuing the quest for silver and wolf pelts so that we can upgrade our gear and face Moder, who holds Keela's future favorite boss power in her talons. We're probably going to end up building a cart to haul silver ore back to our central base, both from the snowy peaks and from Swampsy, where we both left some things after taking the Wolf Express.

A Land of Frost and Heart

A lore piece based on dragonspine!

First time really writing in a long time!

Here's it on ao3 or just read it below the cut.

A landscape of blue, white and grey, speckled by red infecting its ground and spreading to its ores. The core of it being a still beating heart hidden within the mountain, spreading life through its corrupted warmth.

The closest beings to a brother this heart has remained on this land warmed by him. Taking refuge in the caves scattering the mountain.

One, marked by the star of his creators' homeland. He wishes to understand humans and the world, valuing flaws, understanding that they are a vital aspect of humanity.

Whilst the other craves perfection, trying to erase any mark of failure, erasing the mark his twin brother bears.

Their creator abandoned one with a mission and left the other to return to source material through the once-maw of the mountain's heart.

While its brothers move, trying to achieve their goals, the beating heart remains warming this frosted land, wishing that a better fate befell it. Yearning to return to the skies and once again meet the other dragon who slayed him under a better situation.

This land these creations call home is a place many fear to travel. For its freezing temperatures, deadly landscape, and the many creatures which live upon it.

Amongst those few who travel through this land include a rare expedition team or two, trying to research the ancient history told through the mass of ruins littering it.

The friends and allies of the star-marked brother, amongst them are his two apprentices and a strange traveller that too is created from something different than many upon this land.

The final group is the many Fatui who have made camps on this mountain, which unlike most who visit these lands, find a sense of familiarity and home there. For the cold reminds them of their snow-laden home and dear Archon.

This land of frost and corruption of poisonous blood was not always this way. Before the heart of this land came to reside here nought could survive upon its frostbitten ground. No tree, plant or animal could thrive or survive there. But if you go even further back this land was far warmer.

Upon it was an ancient civilization erected to flee from a frozen land, their palace set upon the peak of the mountain. Within this kingdom resided a silver tree that is said to have granted powers of knowledge of the future to the princess of the land.

Eventually, a celestial nail descended upon this kingdom, sealing the tree and surrounding the kingdom in clouds and snowstorms across the once-lush lands. Despite the attempts to heal the land by the people of this kingdom, nought succeeded and eventually, the kingdom was no more.

The princess died trying to preserve part of the silver tree, the head priest perished trying to climb the summit to ask the heavens for guidance, and the kingdom's scribe tried to heal the ley lines, only to discover they had already withered. He layed the princess to rest and then he too eventually died, cursing the heavens and the hero who he thought abandoned them.

Although, the hero had not abandoned the people of this city, having been given a quest by the princess to find a way to save them elsewhere. But in the end, his search failed and when he returned to the kingdom there was nought there for him but the dead. He lay to rest his sword in a tomb upon this mountain and left for a land of war and blood.

The silver tree did one day reawaken, although not the same as it once was. It craves sustenance from the force that awoken it, the corrupted power of the mountains dragon heart. In memory of its lost people, the now silver and red tree grows a single fruit, to be used as a catalyst for justice upon the world.

(seasons include winter,attum,summer and spring diferent events happen depending on the season)

(how i hate the fact my english is more shiter then horse shit... forgive me viewers ;w;) now lisen up this is the mod speaking and i just wana say that yeah... this book only the first chapter has like THOUSENS of things new... and ill be honest it would take SO FREAKING LONG to make it all so i added some of the things i wanted some of theses mobs werent even made by me but the mobs: apiary,warrior,mage,lotti,monsterhunter,mysteryus trader,king villager,megaboomer and Peak-a-boo. were made by me. so heres how it will be ill make a list of all of the new things that were added here cuz if i try to draw EVERYTHING dear god...it would take so freaking looooong ;-; so in this case if you must know the ref or the information about such thing as mob or feature you have 100% permission to dms me for the dethails im open and ill awser you when i have time besides this is the path im takeing. over 50+ mobs like cmon and 8 new bosses. (one last thing before the list some of theses mobs were also made so people could just do their charecters based on them. however lotti is sort of mine so dont copy him too much hes a boy i have been dreaming for the past 3years and I WANT HIM IN MINECRAFT PLEASE MOJANG) also some of theses features are entirely form mods well its the M.O.D tome what ya expect ?? for thoses ill still give info by using the mod the most ill describe is the one mobs made or based on smt but still made by me.

Comfort zone delle cose da dire dopo i 30 anni

Arriva, così come arrivarono i brufoli, le mestruazioni, i primi amori, quel momento in cui l'adolescenza finisce e l'età adulta incombe come un avvoltoio. All'improvviso ti trovi a parlare di lavoro, famiglia, figli, insomma tutta una serie di argomenti che fino al giorno prima sentivi solo come rumore di fondo, sull'autobus o in metro. I primi giorni possono essere difficili: non trovare le parole giuste può causare dei momenti di imbarazzo ma salvate questo post, imparate a memoria 3 o 4 frasi e vedrete che riuscirete a cavarvela e a passare come gente "matura"

"i maschi assomigliano sempre più alla madre e le femmine al padre" Questo dogma può togliervi d'impaccio quando vi viene presentato/a il primo figlio di una coppia di vostri amici. Considerando che il 93% dei bambini fino ai 3 mesi è molto brutto, con questa frase inconstestabile potrete uscirne alla grande senza offendere nessuno

"preferisco sempre un bambino sia vivace piuttosto che vederlo incollato al telefonino". Se il pargoletto che i vostri amici vi presentano ha 3 o 4 anni e dimostra già di essere una testa di cazzo, questa frase vi garantisce una figura da signori. Anche se istintivamente avreste voluto mollare una cinquina a mano aperta su quel piccolo coglione che continua a darvi calci e a toccarvi con le mani appiccicose

Il successo è garantino e la coppia vi adorerà.

"non vedo molte serie in generale, più che altro perchè altrimenti poi ci vado sotto, ma questa me la segno" Piuttosto che spiegare a due ritardati perchè non vedrete mai l'ennesima serie televisiva di merda prodotta da Netflix, invece che sciorinare ore e ore di spiegazioni sul perchè i film siano nettamente migliori che qualsiasi serie televisiva, del perchè avete visto solo serie tipo Twin Peaks e Boris, meglio tagliare corto e uscirne con stile ed eleganza.

"i cani sono più affettuosi, i gatti magari di meno, ma forse sono più autonomi" Quando la vostra fantastica coppia di amici vi fa conoscere il gatto/cane che hanno adottato/acquistato per far fronte a una crisi ormonale/generazionale, fate lo sforzo di accarezzarlo ma capisco (davvero) che sia troppo difficile dire "oddiochecarino". Quindi piuttosto che mentire, potete affidarvi a questa sempiterna banalità.

"mi piacerebbe tantissimo avere un animale a casa, ma siccome sono creature che rispetto e che hanno bisogno di tanta cura e amore, ho il timore che non abbia tutto il tempo che queste meravigliosi animale necessitano. Per cui preferisco non avere animali piuttosto che ignorarli" Se la discussione al punto 6 va avanti, certamente vi si chiederà se avete animali a casa o se avete intenzione di prenderne uno. La risposta al punto 7 è davvero incontestabile e vi garantisce un aurea di santone, amante degli animali che neanche Licia Colò

I got Great Slash (finally)

I got Nailmaster's glory

And I beat the Hollow Knight (after only like six tries to time.)

I got the first ending, only four more to go (five if you include Mr Mushroom)

Then I decided it was finally time to get the Grimm troupe quest over with and murdered all the Grimmkin Novices (not without dying, the one in the Crystal Peaks was a PAIN)

Grimmchild now does damage

I got all three Grimmkin Masters beat and I surprisingly had an easier time than with the novices. (Even though the novices have less health and less attacks)

Then tried to fight Grimm and made the mistake of bringing the WEAVERLINGS into the fight.

They attacked him while he was bowing and I got instantly murdered

I would try it again but my laptop is charging so I'll have to wait until later

(Also I technically beat the collector and got the grub map plus enough grubs to get the Pale Ore but that didnt save to the cloud when I played on my pc so I didnt have that data on my new laptop. Which is why I had to get Great Slash and Nailmaster's Glroy a second time too. Oh well no harm done)

Donquixote Rosinante 'Corazon' with a Monster Hunter s/o

Decided to take a crack at One Piece for this one using some Monster Hunter. You don't need to know much about Monster Hunter, if anything from this genre comes up I'll help fill in the holes at the bottom. Can be read as Gender Neutral or preferred gender.

You met Corazon during a quest at the mountainous Arctic Ridge. It was a simple mission of gathering herbs and ore. You weren't alone with your monster pal tagging along: a Goss Harag.

Now imagine your surprise seeing a very tall man bleeding out on top the snow covered peak. The sight being enough to cut your mission short and help the poor bloke.

Quickly treating his injuries, your large snow oni beast pal quickly gotten the both of you down the mountain safely.

Your quarry didn't wake up until the next day once he had been taken back to your warm hut in the wilderness.

He seemed taken aback that he was alive than where he was. The man introduced himself as 'Corazon' and told his part of the story.

Hearing that his own brother shot him dead and might be from a different world had been jarring but you were kind enough to fill him in on his new situation. Especially considering your Goss Harag poked their head through the window and scared the man shitless.

Once you explained to him about the basics of your world and what a monster hunter was, Corazon wished to help you out. Both out of curiosity and for saving his life.

He'd admit he was honestly shocked that he still retain his Calm-Calm Fruit powers. A good boon when it came to quests that silence was needed the most. The monsters of your world could give even Marine Admirals a run for their money.

Corazon learned quite a lot about you over a short time thanks to his experience as a spy. You were an oddity capable of communicating and befriending monsters. Most of your weapons and armor were crafted from materials gifted by the various beasts you bonded with.

He was absolutely dumbfounded seeing a large dragon like beast pluck a few of its scales to give to you or your world's equivalent of a Lapin traded part of its catch with ya.

That kindness had no bounds. You always made sure he was comfortable and felt safe. His clumsiness wasn't something you didn't mind and often tend to any injuries he got.

Remodeling the house and furniture to suit his much taller frame. Made him clothes that not only fit him but also made it harder to damage. Corazon never felt properly pampered before. Especially out of willingness considering his bloodline.

Despite their intimidating appearance, your Goss Harag was a big sweetheart. The large beast often snuggling next to him to keep cool against the blistering heat. Corazon had been on the receiving end of the Snow Oni Beast's grooming sessions.

It taken time for him to realize that he had feelings for you. So one day, Corazon went out on a solo quest of his own without your knowledge.

When he'd came back with his harsh burns, you nearly had a heart attack. Especially when the blonde said about fighting a red winged lion with horns, Corazon had picked a fight with a bloody Elder Dragon: Teostra.

You were ready to scold him when he handed you something. It was a necklace with the most beautiful gem inside: a ruby peppered with fiery orange sparkles inside, a Teostra Gem.

It was here that Corazon told you his true feelings. You whacked him on the head at first but you did admit that you felt the same way.

He did get scolded and a grooming session from your Goss Harag but the man didn't regret his impromptu mission.

And that's it. Nearly every anime fan has their own favorite clown man, most having Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter. I never really had one until One Piece introduced Corazon. I love this big blonde klutz of an assassin and felt so robbed with his death. Fuck you Donflamingo.

If you guys are wondering, yes this is set after Corazon gave his life to save Law. There probably be a few more of these in the future. Until next time folks, have some info.

Goss Harag, known as Snow Oni Beast or Limb Reaper:

An ice element monster that lives in harsh cold areas. They're extremely powerful and can suck in cold air to freeze its bodily fluids. It then sprays those fluids on its arms to form large icy blades with unique effects. When angered, it turns red and becomes even more dangerous.

Teostra, known as Flame King Dragon or Emperor of Flame:

A fire element monster and Elder Dragon that prefers very hot areas like deserts or volcanoes. This aggressive and territorial beast can breath hot fire alongside producing an aura of flame. It releases explosive powder from it's scales and ignites it to create massive explosions.

Elder Dragons- Monsters referred to as walking forces of nature. Capable of unbelievable damage and rumored to be able to end the world if left unchecked.

ooof and more swerve introspection. i mentioned earlier but i fucking LOVE how this series showcases the extremely wide range of reactions/coping mechanisms that everyone has towards the endless war finally being over - and swerve really nails it here: confusing peace with happiness, and assuming that everything would automatically be better after the war is over, when in reality you still have to work just as hard to build shit rather than break it

also i adore the horror of a guy who is half-embedded in the wall, his face stuck in a rictus of terror & death, waxing philosophical about how peace is about the freedom of choice, and how they should all just feel lucky to have survived...oof, that's very specifically ironic coming from you, dude

but i do love the little characterization we get here for ore, a character who is literally already dead and has so far been used as a plot device pretty exclusively, but we still get to know little things about him here, and how HE feels about the war and the current peace, etcetc. it really makes the story and characters seem believable, like every character has a story even if we don't take the time to see it

and drift and ratchet’s very opposing and polarizing views certainty do make for interesting perspectives, tho i feel like the story sometimes leans too much towards ratchet being ‘more correct’ bc, logic! or something idk i feel like i used to have a couple mild opinions on this but i don't remember

and its funny bc i am, irl, an atheistic medical professional who believes in science above all else - essentially just like ratchet. but i feel like the narrative portrayal skews a little more in his favor than i’d like, despite that

anyways - the annual! i love this issue. its really long which is cool and i feel like it does a lot to flesh out the setting and lore, and even the characters as well. also, as i said above, it does an excellent job telling an exciting and well-contained story, with solid story beats throughout and plot threads that emerge and get resolved all within this issue, even while leaving plenty of stuff up for future resolution. that's the Early MTMTE Special, and i adore it. tho i will say I'm glad we’ll be getting back to the regularly scheduled art style, bc this one didn't really do it for me

Questo quarto e ultimo disco della band è una cartolina spedita a tutti quelli che si sono chiesti dov’erano finiti: da nessuna parte, o meglio molto lontano. Ecco dove. C’è un racconto di Carver che si chiama “Distanza” e che stranamente parla di Milano, degli istanti e delle scelte che creano quella piccola fessura che separa tutto quanto. Il fatto è che solo in questa distanza d’istanti vissuti si vedono bene le cose, solo da lontano si scontorna bene la terra e tutte quante le galassie. Questo è il resoconto del loro viaggio in otto canzoni.

1 - Ti svegli su un isola deserta. No panic: hai potuto portare con te tre cose e una di queste è un album.

- Se una delle tre cose è un giradischi e se l’isola deserta si trova nel mar dei Caraibi direi l’album omonimo dei Buena Vista Social Club.

2 - On the road: c'è un’ autoradio con dentro una musicassetta. Dentro ci sono almeno tre canzoni da cantare a finestrino aperto.

- Biglia - Brace Perth - Bon Iver Seppia - Setti (bonus track Un mare - Setti).

3 - Hai rimandato, hai rimandato, ma oggi tocca a te. La playlist dal dentista per non sentire il trapano nelle orecchie.

- Scolata alla goccia di Varnelli e Gogol Bordello finché non mi sveglio in mutande, con un'aquila bicefala tatuata sulla schiena steso in un campo di patate.

4 - Qual è il tuo memorabilia musicale a cui non potresti mai rinunciare?

- Prima maglietta comprata ad un concerto dei Verdena. Non mi entra più e comincia ad avere le maniche rigide ma io la indosso ancora con disinvoltura.

5 - Guilty Pleasure : quella canzone che ti fa vergognare, ma che non puoi proprio fare a meno di ascoltare.

- La dico? La dico. Let it go del film Frozen. Canzone + dialoghi uguale lacrime assicurate.

6 - Film o serie tv : questa volta sceglilo per la colonna sonora.

-  Twin Peaks, neanche a chiederlo. (bonus Narcos per gli amanti dell’esotico). 7 - La chiavetta nello spazio : la band o il musicista di cui la terra non ha proprio bisogno.

- Ci vorrebbe una chiavetta bella grossa, diciamo almeno dieci yottabyte di musica.

8 - Il 1999 per noi Caroline Records è stato l'anno in cui abbiamo cominciato a diventare quello che musicalmente siamo oggi: tu a che punto eri?

- Diciamo che 3 membri su quattro erano seduti davanti alla televisione a guardare Ash che lasciava andare Butterfree con le lacrime agli occhi. Martino probabilmente era già in giro a scorrazzare tra skate park e concerti punk rock.

9 - E invece un album degli ultimi 12 mesi che tutti dovrebbero ascoltare?

- Il nostro! Comunque è uscita veramente tanta roba bella. Anche in Italia. Mi sento di consigliare il nuovo disco di Colombre, veramente bello.

10 - Dal vivo: il miglior concerto che hai visto, quello che rimpiangi di aver perso e quello che non vuoi assolutamente perdere.

- Il primo, non si scorda mai, Verdena al Velvet di Rimini. Tre ore no stop condite da fender distrutta sul palco e dedica finale a Silvio Berlusconi (perché?). Sono uscito senza una scarpa ma con una maglietta stupenda. Sui rimpianti tanti. Ora come ora però la cosa che rimpiango è non essere andato a tutti i concerti dei Camillas a cui sarei potuto andare. E sapere che non ce ne saranno più è molto doloroso. Da non perdere tutti, se c’è la possibilità bisogna andare, soprattutto se si parla di musica locale. Just the locals save the locals (strizzatina d’occhio ad amici). —

Tips for Breath of the Wild Newbies

Or anyone who may be as obsessed with the game as me.

I’ve officially done five playthroughs of Breath of the Wild since I got the game and Switch last year. Even though I’m on my sixth now, I’m still somehow discovering things while playing it! That goes to show how expansive and utterly amazing it is. If I had to choose just one game to play for the rest of my life, it’d be Breath of the Wild without hesitation. It has officially dethroned Twilight Princess as my favorite Zelda title which I never thought would happen. Anyway, if you’re a new player like I was just last year, or a veteran looking to critique some hints and tips, I hope this post doesn’t disappoint!

1: Thoroughly explore the Great Plateau This area is the beginning of your journey, and methodically running all over it will equip you for the rest of your adventure. There are some weapons lying around other than weak Traveler’s and Boko gear, such as a Soldier’s Bow at the top of the Temple of Time (which you literally can’t miss after the first major cutscene), a Throwing Spear in the Bokoblin camp behind the Temple, and a Soldier’s Broadsword under the waterfall of the snowy area. Raiding all the Bokoblin camps will reward you with a few ambers and opals you can sell for rupees early on. Keep the Iron Sledgehammer you get in the Owa Daim shrine and use it to defeat the Stone Talus near Hopper Pond instead of expending precious, expensive Bomb Arrows. Make it a habit to use Magnesis near any body of water, especially bogs. Comb the Forest of Spirits for all its insect and food resources. Lastly, there are eighteen Korok seeds to be found around the Plateau which gives you a good start to upgrading your inventory.

2: Gather Korok seeds early and efficiently Most new players probably want to know how they can carry more gear since it breaks. Hestu provides the solution to that issue and you can’t miss him if you follow the main questline. There are 900 Korok seeds in the whole game but you only need 441 to max out your gear slots. My favorite areas for getting a lot of seeds early on are the Dueling Peaks and Hateno regions (combined to form Necluda), the Lake region, and north-northwestern Faron. You can easily glide to many seed locations from the Lake tower and the top of Dueling Peaks. Zelda Dungeon is the best resource for finding seeds.

3: Embrace the durability system Something I hear from many players is their hatred for weapons breaking, but that system is in place for a reason! There’s tons of gear scattered all over Hyrule and breaking it gives you the opportunity to try out everything. I’m sure you will come to favor certain items as you progress. I hate finding a chest with a good weapon or shield in it that I can’t carry because my inventory is full, so I have to throw something on the ground ‘cause I’m too impatient to come back and get the better thing later. I’d rather break weapons by fighting enemies and gathering resources instead of letting them poof. You will also get the most mileage out of your gear by using it appropriately. Instead of running into monster camps and breaking all your swords and spears on tough enemies, take some of them out with bow headshots. Instead of trying to melee certain enemies, use shield parries to deflect their projectiles and kill them. And don’t use your claymores to smash ore. One last aspect of the durability system is to learn where certain weapons spawn, providing you with an endless supply. For instance, there will always be Iron Sledgehammers leaning against Link’s house in Hateno and a Silver Longsword behind the Ne’ez Yohma shrine in Zora’s Domain.

4: Save Guardian gear for Guardians Guardian gear is most effective against the various types of Guardians loitering around Hyrule. After passing some Minor or Moderate Tests of Strength, hang onto those weapons for Guardian Scouts you’ll encounter in certain shrines, Decayed Guardians posted around certain areas, and Guardian Stalkers which yield the highest amount of ancient materials. You can use Guardian gear against regular monsters, but it’s not as efficient. Shock Arrows are also effective against Guardians if you need something in a pinch.

5: Ignore Yiga Footsoldiers If you see random people on the side of the main roads in Hyrule either whimpering or standing around like creeps, they turn out to be Yiga assassins 99% of the time. I personally find them annoying so I just ignore them. They won’t pursue you unlike the archers and blademasters that poof in to disrupt your questing later on.

6: Use Dragonbone Moblin Clubs to defeat Taluses Dragonbone Moblin Clubs are highly effective and extremely common two-handed weapons that work well for dispatching Taluses in the early stages of the game. The easiest way to get these clubs is to run around at night and wait for Stalmoblins to pop out of the ground; they are commonly found in the Gerudo mountains. It should be noted that these clubs aren’t as effective against Igneo Taluses due to catching on fire. But Frost and Stone Taluses of the plain, rare, and luminous ore varieties will fall quickly beneath the might of the Dragonbone Moblin Club, especially if you hold a charge attack after climbing onto them. It should also be noted that Boulder Breaker is actually the best weapon in the game for farming ore from Taluses, so you can just use that after you get it. I still hang onto Spiked and Dragonbone Moblin Clubs for smashing regular ore if my sledgehammers break.

7: Do not fear Hinoxes, Moldugas, and Lynels These are the three most intimidating monsters in the game, but engaging them is entirely optional. You can hear Hinoxes snoring from a mile away so they’re easy to stroll past or ignore altogether. After a certain heart count they’ll almost always have boosted weapons around their necks, usually Royal gear, and there are three methods for gathering them. You can sneak onto their hand and wait for them to drop you onto their belly, then nab the weapons and carefully jump off. You can engage them, shoot them in the eye once, and grab the weapons while they’re sitting on the ground before running away. Or you can just kill them which is easy if you have Urbosa’s Fury and hold a charge attack with any two-handed weapon. This method will even kill red and blue Hinoxes in one go with a strong Royal Claymore! Moldugas only spawn in specific areas of the Gerudo Desert and you can see their sand ripples from far away, so you can give them a wide berth if you want. But they’re worth engaging for the good weapons in their treasure chests. Again, the best method for defeating them is to use a strong two-handed weapon (Royal Claymores are my personal favorite for their abundance and high durability), hold a charge attack, and make sure Urbosa’s Fury is active. Lynels are obnoxious to fight due to how much they dick around. The key to defeating them is to master perfect dodging because their attack patterns are extremely predictable. Use a combination of high durability and high damage one-handed weapons, such as Royal Broadswords and Lizal Tri-Boomerangs, paired with strong shields. Always try to swoop in on Lynels with the Paraglider from a high point because if they spot you from afar they’ll shoot you with elemental arrows. Speaking of which, Lynels are immune to elemental arrows and weapons so don’t waste them. Just go toe to hoof and have good reaction time.

8: Learn the best locations for farming resources After five playthroughs I’m still working on this one, but here are some tips I can share. Razorshrooms and Zapshrooms are commonly found all over Akkala. Rhino beetles are best gathered in Faron. Equip the Sheikah set, start in Lurelin Village, and run along the beach checking palm trees along the way. Hearty Lizards are also commonly found in Faron. For gathering Rushrooms with minimal climbing, stay in Necluda. Naydra Snowfield yields more Chillshrooms than you’ll know what to do with. To get Gourmet Meat either to sell to Trott or make expensive kebabs, hunt Tabantha Moose and Great Horned Rhinoceros in Hebra; wolves and coyotes tend to yield Prime Meat. Avoid bears because they’re jerks. If you’re in need of the three varieties of Safflina, you can’t do better than farming the Ruins and Great Fairy Fountain of Gerudo. Lastly, if you want a lot of ore for upgrading clothes or selling to get rich, turn on your Sheikah Sensor in Eldin. Of course I wouldn’t leave out the dragons. Farming parts from them can be frustrating because of the elements that hurt you, but you need horn shards for upgrading the Champion’s Tunic. It is easiest to fly at them head-on and use either a Golden or Phrenic Bow, or the Ancient Bow since it shoots straight, then stay in the updraft so you can see where the part lands. In my experience, the best spot for Farosh is on Floria Bridge in Faron. Hylia Bridge and the Gerudo Summit are good second and third areas. The best spot for Dinraal is Tabantha Great Bridge; the second best is near the Eldin Great Skeleton. Climb one of the rock spikes along the edge of the map or up the mountain to catch an updraft and shoot him. My favorite spot to farm Naydra is in Lanayru Promenade. Climb up either of the dilapidated sides and wait for her to come down. You might also catch her while gliding southeast from Vah Ruta.

9: Explore one region at a time I started doing this during my most recent playthrough. Previously I would go around activating each tower as soon as possible to fill in the map, but exploring each area as I reveal it has led to some fun discoveries, like a big stash of gear just north of the Gerudo tower, and certain side quests I’d never done before such as A Parent’s Love. Methodical searching is also the best way to find Korok seeds if you don’t want to use a guide. There are so many secrets in Hyrule that you’ll definitely miss stuff when you have the whole map laid out before you, so consider exploring one region at a time!

10: Try the Expansion Pass content Master Mode is probably the best offering from both DLCs. It does ramp up the difficulty to a certain degree and is worth a full playthrough even though the base game stays the same. There are no red enemies, you start facing off against the blue versions of each monster type. In addition to black and silver, you will fight golden enemies which are quite tough. Monsters also regenerate health which can be frustrating. However, there are way more and better weapons to be found! Floating alongside most bridges and waterfalls will be Bokoblins and Lizalfos guarding treasure chests. Master Mode also gives you much more rare ore. The Champion’s Ballad is enjoyable and has three main parts. First, you run around with the One Hit Obliterator and if the name of that weapon doesn’t sell you, then don’t buy the content. Second, the shrines you must beat to complete each champion song are difficult, good for anyone who complained about a lack of a challenge. Third, the final dungeon is like a fifth Divine Beast and the boss fight is kind of easy compared to everything you had to do to get to that point. But the Master Cycle is worth it. Think “steampunk unicorn dirt bike” and if you have no desire to drive Link around Hyrule on such a vehicle, then you are playing the wrong video game. I can’t talk about the Master Trials since I have yet to complete it, but I loved going on a treasure hunt for all of the EX armors, the Royal Guard uniform being the best. They can’t be upgraded, though, which is a bit disappointing.

End of Aether Chap.1

Mother nature looks into the vast alley of ash and past that a world full of soot and cinder. The pyres of man’s cruel reign had finally come to it’s peak, it’s climax. Like a living breathing life, the world had purged itself fighting off the infection of man and mother nature’s beautiful creations until the petri was full of breakdown bits and parts of what had been. Such is the cycle of life and death, the world ready to begin a new in this world full with soot and cinder.

The wonderous colours of the world had all faded into grey, twilight’s magical hour with no colour. The Deep blues of the sea and sky, emerald jewels of the grass and foliage and the deep browns, reds and yellows of the animals, flowers and woods; all gone into the void of sullen grey melancholy. This had it’s toll on mother nature. Her luscious rich body, that was once was conveted; had once bloomed into picture had now all lost volume. She was petite, with short hair. However, she carried with her, the most precious thing that was lost, the colours of the world. And the contrast of the grey creation had made her sparkle brighter now than what she ever created, what she ever was. Although her hair was short, she had jewel green emerald hair with flowers flowing in abundance. Her body was teaming with life although petite. The forces of nature and gifts that she gave returned to her and now although small she’s at her most powerful.

What once stood as strong powerful figures , building man had built were now all but molehills empty and void. The world was empty yet, it would be unfair to say all had perished, Death could not claim them all just as life is not without Death. Stragglers of Armageddon remained devoid of life in their hollow shells. Naming them life would be unfair to say as needless to say they were doomed to die. This vast grey existence cannot provide the sustenance that life needs to survive. Yet the still persist looking for a way to survive in this culled earth, an eternal pilgrimage to the end. Mother Nature, like them is beginning her last voyage on to the beyond. The opposite to a maiden’s voyage, a pilgrimage to calm the fires of man and reclaim the earth from Death so that life can begin, so that life can continue.

Through her many senses the fires that had decimated the world; she could sense it originated from the west. The all black flame, the curiosity of man needed to be returned first in order to begin again. Thus she leapt up like a spring and began her journey through. A simple task but another had other things in mind. The one who was fed up with man’s ceaseless charge throughout the world, the one who had made things which they were now. Death. She was void which all things would return to. She was the inevitable end of all things. Yet, it’s only through zen-like peace and calm could things change. And only she could bring the world from Mother nature’s noisy life to a sense of serenity. Through tranquility and peace, healing can begin. She didn’t appreciate Mother nature’s plans to ruin what the world had become now. In the beginning when she was of age, she had worked tirelessly to be like Mother Nature, for although she could only cause the end , she ruthlessly desired beginning and new life. She had loved Mother Nature’s work and she treated it’s end with respect and dignity. A solemn peaceful death, a cruel tireless gruesome death , all deaths had helped mother nature with her plan on perfecting her work. She understood the intricacies that no entity could ever grasp.

Man had no such equivalent for Death as they had Mother Nature. The work tirelessly to avoid death as they tried to run away from the inevitable truth from the world. A solemn peaceful death, a cruel tireless gruesome death, all death was eventually feared. They toyed with Mother Nature’s creations and Death’s touch to avoid and escaped from those two forces that bonded them. By perverting things around them, using the many beauties of nature, the flames of man were created. Alchemy, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Medicine, Art, Stories , Fictions and folktales all were spawned from the flames of man. The very essence of persistence, that had kept pushing the world of man, to create and become their own Mother Nature and Rulers of death. Masters of Eternity, and immortality.

The flames of man, were never as black and as all-consuming as they were now. Before it appeared from then golden sparks of the sun that was man’s curiosity, man’s will to improve and to aid. Death saw this as a spirit quite like her at first. Man was struggling to grasp their environment, and eventually created flames in which the very creations of mother nature could be improved upon, a feat she was trying to aspire to at first. To that effect, Death at every junction that she could helped fuel to flames of man to keep it burning. When man, needed to understand the animals, she gave them hunting, when man needed to understand the gifts Mother Nature had bestowed on them; she gave them war and destruction. She saw herself in Man’s quest to help. Mother Nature knew better, she knew what the flames could become but she didn’t want to ruin this fleeting dance Death had made with her new partner. And as the dance, went on the flame of man lost their golden rich spark and became more and more black eternally corrupted by Death’s lust and Control of the world itself.

Mother Nature knew that this is what would eventually become of the world, Man and Death. Mother Nature also knew that her last journey would begin and the end would become a new beginning. She used her creative spirit to entrap something that was though to be foreign by her counterparts, a grand sword. Conjuring both Man’s flame to bend her creations and Death’s end herself. The grand sword was ,like her teaming with life. A summary of creation lied within it; the blade had mountains ,trees, grass, deep blue sapphire rivers. The hilt the most finest, ores and rocks all aflame and molten at the top and cool at the shaft for a sturdy grip. To call it anything but grand would be an injustice. She could now see the flames of man reckless abandoned burn within the horizon. Knowing it’s time for the cycle to continue.
