My favorite thing about the “not all who wander are lost” poem is that when you first learn about it in tFotR you think it’s like this great prophesy made at Aragorn’s birth by an oracle or something but then later you learn it’s just a funky lil song Bilbo made up for his poetry buddy

*pulls up chairs for the confused reddit refugees who’ve wandered into this blog by accident*
*hands them battered copies of Alexandre Dumas’ The Three Musketeers and a hot cup of cocoa*
Here.
Breathe.
Read.
And then rewatch The Musketeers, Supernatural, Star Trek Picard or Salvation with me to discuss man pain, freckled lips, existentialism and the smell of books.

In moments of specific boredom, I go to mapcrunch.com and play the "airport game." That site will drop you in a random spot on Google Street View (and optionally not tell you where you are, which is important for the challenge) and the idea is to imagine you've been teleported there and need to find your way back home, so find an airport just by walking around.
I play it a bit looser than the way it strictly sounds. Train stations and bus stops count as wins, and if I've gotten enough information to make a decent guess as to what country and town I might be in, if I find a police station, tourist info, or even just a convenience store with bilingual signage I "go in and ask for directions" and start using actual Google Maps to find where I am and see how hard it would have been to find an airport.
Street View is significantly skewed towards long stretches of road in the middle of nowhere, because there's a lot of that out there compared to urban area. Sites like Geoguessr apply some algorithms to put you in the general vicinity of civilization, but you need to specifically turn that on for mapcrunch.
Just now, it dropped me in Antarctica. I didn't even know there was street view in Antarctica.

Don't worry — you'll hardly notice. Those bulky radio collars are a thing of the past! A bit of itching at the injection site is normal, and you might begin to perceive vague shapes with your pineal gland but R&D assures us that's temporary.
