Can't stop thinking about Anti-Cosmo chiming into H.P.'s conversation with Timmy in "Oddlympics" and his only contribution is "-but this takes the taco!!"
He's such a snooty villain but he's always so... weird. Why did he say that. Are tacos considered dessert in Anti-Fairy World? Do they regularly eat tacos at the Castle? Is Anti-Wanda, despite her love of roadkill, the main cook in the family? That does line up with her being the one to pack Foop's lunchbox, plus Anti-Cosmo didn't lift a finger to help her cook for the bake-off to win the godchildren. Discuss.

✨Pairing✨: firefighter!Curtis Everettxblack!nanny!reader
Summary🪄: You witness Curtis’ jealous side for the first time (Dipped in Guilt addition)
⚠️: age gap (reader is in late twenties, Curtis is in late 30s to early 40s), sprinkle of possessiveness, insinuation to happy adult fun times, pretty much all fluff
*DISCLAIMER!: although visual was made by me via Canva, I DO NOT CLAIM OWNERSHIP of photos used as they were all found on Pinterest*
“Looks like Jensen went all out with this huh?,” Curtis speaks. His son happily sitting in his thick, tattooed arms as you both walk up the concrete walkway
A decorated archway hangs overhead the entire short walk to the front door made to look like a cave full of spiders in their elaborate web. Finn couldn’t be less impressed though, deciding the grey mouse ears on his head - removing them for the fourth time now - were more intriguing than what was around him
“I like it,” you smile. “I wouldn’t expect anything less from Jakey.”
“Of course you’d say that,” he thought. Ever the kind, supportive one, it’s like you were Jensen’s biggest fan
You’d always actively listen when he was going on about one of his nerdy interests. Nodding along and giving your input every now and then about some character or theory you had
You were like that with everyone at the station really. Listening with awe to Ari’s stories of traveling in foreign countries and truly interested in the latest book Cap was reading
You even had a little book club of sorts, which had a small smile creeping along his lips when he’d overhear you on the phone excitedly discussing a part you couldn’t get over
Although Curtis did feel a way about you being on the phone with his station captain so late
And now that he thought about it, why the hell were you calling Jensen “Jakey”?
It didn’t take long for the door to swing open after ringing the melodic bell. Jake smiling on the other side in some outfit that looked like a blue ninja and matching mask as music and giggles could be heard from deeper in the house.
“Hey, come in! Glad you guys could make it!”
“Thanks for inviting us,” Curtis replies stepping in the highly decorated home. There were orange and black streamers along the walls and ceiling along with fake cobwebs and bats. Paper skeletons were along the walls in various goofy poses while a couple larger, plastic ones sat on some of the tables in addition to a mini fake caldron and Halloween themed confetti
Overall, it reminded Curtis of a less cluttered version of a Halloween store the longer you walked through
Clearly the kids loved it how they ran around ogling and enjoying themselves in their costumes
“Very nice Sub Zero!,” you spoke. “Is that the one you found on the site you told me?”
“Yea! And thank you for being the only person here to appreciate an iconic character,” he emphasizes specifically towards a group of kids - including his niece in her ghostface costume - walking past
“Whatever bluey.”
Jensen just shakes his head. “That’s the problem with this generation, no respect. Also very adorable cat and mouse costume you two.”
Tickling under Finn’s chin, the one year old giggles in his grey onesie before reaching for Jake’s glasses - as he usually did whenever they’d see each other.
“And let me guess, Curtis is a…grumpy old trucker?”
Although fitting from the black flannel over his arms, dark jeans that covered the laces of his boots, and ash grey beanie, Curtis just glared in his typical sour puss fashion cutting Jensen’s chuckles short. His once joking mood replaced with a slight look of fear as he nervously cleared his throat.
“S-Sorry, just jokes I swear.”
“Hey, more big people!”
Hearing that familiar deep, soothing drawl, you instantly turn around to find Ari with a beer in hand and in his usual jeans and simple white tee waving from the kitchen.
“So we got adults in the kitchen/dining room, and kids mostly in the living room. Food is in both, but let me know if you guys need anything,” Jensen quickly explains before jogging off at his sister’s call.
“Aww how cute, cat and mouse,” Ari smiles giving you one of his famous bear hugs before gently tickling Finn in his side. “And what about you Curtis?”
“A tired, responsible adult.” Ari chuckles at his friend - expecting nothing less than that response - as you playfully roll your eyes taking a babbling Finn from his arms.
“Well on that note, I’ll leave you adults to it. Cmon baby boy, we’ll have fun for the both of em.”
Curtis’ eyes naturally follow as you stride into the living room while cooing at his son. Ari’s daughter, Maya, excitedly squeals your name once you step foot on the large rug protecting the dark hardwood below. Having babysat her a few times now, she already loved you as if you were her best friend. She also loved Finn, saying how he was the cutest baby she’d ever seen.
“He’s like a babydoll!,” she whispered in awe while holding him that first time. Since then, you, Curtis, and Ari suspected that Maya might look at Finn as her own real life babydoll watching as she took care of him while he played on his mat and would occasionally try to rock him. She even tried to feed him his bottle, but that usually didn’t go well since Finn liked to hold his own.
Seeing you interact with the kids - complimenting their costumes and goofily dancing right beside them - a fraction of a smile tilts the corner of Curtis’ mouth replacing his usual stoic gaze.
There’s also a hint of something waking inside of him every time you hold his son or help him toddle about the room being careful that he doesn’t fall or hurt himself
It’s almost primal or possessive as he feels a low twitch and a warmth bloom along his skin
And he knows it’s bound to get him in trouble
“Stare any harder, and I’m gonna start getting jealous,” Ari smirks handing Curtis a chilled beer from the fridge behind him. Clearly caught, he can only shake his head as the two lightly clink their dark bottles together before taking respective sips.
“So I take it everything’s going well?”
“Yea, she loves Finn and he loves her back. Sometimes I think he might like her more than me.”
“Understandable. I mean she’s prettier, so kind, an amazing cook, funny, gorgeous-,”
“Are you done?,” Curtis glowered lowering the beer bottle from his lips. “Want me to call her back in here so you can find more ways to compliment her?”
He knew Curtis liked you, but he didn’t realize his friend was this deeply smitten. “Relax cowboy, no one’s trying to take your girl.”
Although Ari had to admit, if they weren’t friends he’d be doing any and everything to make you his.
“Whoa, Curtis has a girl?!,” Jake pauses as soon as he steps into the kitchen. A dopey grin on his face much to Curtis’ dismay.
“No, I don’t.”
“Oh he does,” Ari adds only making him more annoyed.
“I’m happy for you man! Finally getting back out there and opening yourself up for love.” Curtis instantly shrugs Jake’s arm from around his shoulder, but the giddy dork only puts it back making Curtis glare at his frosted tipped station mate. “You should’ve invited her.”
“He did. You’ve seen her a few times,” Ari chuckles with a wink before taking another swig from his nearly empty bottle. At first, Jake doesn’t seem to get it quirking his brow in confusion. When things finally click, Jake’s face morphs into surprised realization then excitement looking back and forth between a grumpy Curtis and sweet you in your makeshift cat costume bouncing Finn in your arms.
Curtis knew he should’ve stayed home.
-
Finally back home, Curtis lounged on his couch with arms crossed over his chest as some old, black and white horror movie playing on the screen mounted on the wall. The younger looking woman screaming in horror as some alien species cornered her in an alley
He couldn’t really pay attention though, with you currently in your room getting dressed to go out with your friends
“It’s our Halloween tradition! Since freshman year, we’ve always dressed up and hung out downtown.”
Selfishly Curtis wanted you home with him. You curled on the couch with your snowman blanket - as you tended to do - only a mere arms length away from him as you both watched a movie or one of your shows
He especially liked Love is Blind, but he’d never openly admit that
As if hearing his thoughts of you, the thick heels of your black booties click down the hall eventually stopping in front of him giving a little twirl and your heart melting grin
“And enter the wicked witch!”
Wicked was the word alright, but not in the traditional since of how the character looked when he was little
He could see your black thong through your lacy, wide legged black pants with spiderweb detailing. Your sleeveless top - lacy and see through as well - showing your black bustier underneath. To top everything off, a purple pointed hat on your head with black cats scattered all around in various poses
He could only stare as you excitedly grabbed your purse from the coatrack and shuffled through its contents making sure you had everything
“If Finn wakes up before I’m back, there’s two bottles in the fridge I made earlier, and the bottle warmer is already plugged in,” you state walking towards the front door as you begin typing on your phone. “Oh and-,”
Not paying attention, you don’t hear or feel Curtis get up closing the distance between you with hands stuffed in his front pockets. Turning to suddenly see his broad body startles you, making you slightly jump and a breathy giggle slip past your soft lips
“You can be very nimble for a guy your size,” you joke, but Curtis just peers down at you looking stoic as usual. “Well, I uh guess I’ll see you later then. Were you gonna lock up behind me or-,”
He simply stays silent looking stoic as usual causing your once good mood to slightly dim
“Um okay..g-goodnight then,” you weakly smile with hand twisting the doorknob. Once you have it open by just a crack, Curtis’ larger hand is pushing it closed again and leaving it there to block you from going out
Effectively confusing and startling you; making your brows slightly knit
“…Is something wrong?,” you ask.
“You want me to start being open?,” he begins still trapping you between him and the door. Not that you were particularly complaining. “Okay then, I don’t like - no, I despise the fact that a bunch of men, let alone one, are gonna have their eyes on you. Wanting something that’s not theirs.”
You can only stand there waiting for him to finish. Your back eventually pressing against the door as you step back trying to move away from his intense gaze
“Now I’m gonna give you an option. You can leave; go have fun with your friends and I drag you back here in an hour not caring if you’re ready to go or not, nor if you’re kicking or screaming when I do it. Or you can rightfully stay here.”
The way he spoke with authority as if he was your father stunned you into near silence, unable to clearly get your response out. “S-Stay?”
“Yes..with me,” he states leaning close enough that you could feel the air from his nostrils skate across your skin. “And I promise to make you forget about whatever grimy place you wanted to go and whoever you were planning to go with.”
You feel your core spasm at such a promise reflexively clenching your thighs together as your tongue peeks to wet your lips and you gently nod in approval. It should be shameful how easily you drop your purse into his waiting hand almost like you’re in a trance, but you could care less letting him lead you to his bedroom. In the morning, you’ll just text a quick apology to your friends about standing them up.
Not that they’d know what you were talking about since there weren’t any plans in the first place

Children | Music
The Bats weren’t really music people. Bruce didn’t really care about it, Dick preferred to be the one making the noice, Jason favored quiet for his reading, Tim was just too busy to listen, and Damien… well. League of Assassins: not really the forefront on the ‘hobby’ department.
So when a social worker had shown up with a feral, black haired, sometimes-blue-sometimes-Lazarus-green eyed kid, who was apparently Bruce’s cousin’s son, nobody expected that to change. He was quiet, refused to look anybody in the face, and hid in his room and only came out to eat.
Of course, considering the horrible way all his family and friends had died, and the downright abusive godfather he was removed from two months later after a very public breakdown, nobody blamed him. They had all quickly resolved to leave him alone until he was ready. (Well, mostly all. The others kept their own feral green-eyed kid in line until he got the message.)
That went on for about a week, with the kid, Danny, slowly coming out more and more, a lot like a stray cat. By the second week, he would eat meals with them rather than take his plate back upstairs, to appear magically in the sink sometime afterwords, right before Alfred would load them into the dishwasher.
A few days after the meals, he started answering innocuous questions like ‘what did you do today’ and ‘what’s your opinion on this show?’. Slowly, slowly, Danny learned that they were trustworthy, and started appearing during movies and game nights and on one memorable occasion a month in, joined in on the prank war Steph started, and subsequently won.
(They suspected, based on some of those pranks, that Danny was a meta. Some sort of invisibility and density shifting, from what Barbara found on the cameras afterwords. There was no record of him having been tested for it before, and, well… it wouldn’t be the first time a traumatic event activated someone’s meta-gene.)
So, even with all of that, he was still a pretty quiet kid. Which is why, five weeks after Danny came to live with them, they were all so surprised to hear loud, gothic music blaring out of his room. Like, really loud.
For most of the day. Also for that whole time, never once did Danny leave his room. Not for food, or movie night, or even when Jason intentionally dropped a millipede down Steph’s shirt right outside his door. There was just loud goth music, from 8:00 am until they left for patrol around 9:00 pm.
When they returned a little after 3:00, Alfred informed them that the music had suddenly cut off right at midnight, and Danny had then appeared in the kitchen, eyes red and face swollen in the way that meant a long time crying. He’d grabbed an apple, some granola bars, and at Alfred’s insistence two sandwiches and a large Gatorade before disappearing back into his room.
The next morning, at breakfast, they’d all pretended it didn’t happen. Apparently, the universe decided that the choice of a bunch of detective vigilantes to not invade someone’s privacy was deserving of a reward, because halfway through their meal Danny had set his fork down, taken a deep, slow breath, and said into the hushed room,
“Yesterday was my friend Sam’s birthday. She would’ve been 15. She was super goth, and hated that her parents would dress her up in bright frilly dresses whenever they dragged her along to some gala or rich-person event. Whenever they’d make a comment about me, or my pa-parents, she’d invite me and T- Tucker over and we’d help her pick out the loudest, gothiest music and jud-judge what outfits to buy online by how much her parents would hate them. She- she and Tucker were my only friends since we moved to Amity in first grade. Everyone else thought that because my parents were weird I was too but Tucker was nerdy and Sam was just Sam so we migrated together and stayed and now they’re gone because of me and I—“
He’d gasped, desperately, tears streaming down his face and everybody had moved as the well-trained unit they were, despite all their differences.
20 minutes later, the movie room had been requisitioned for a giant nest of pillows and blankets, and everyone piled in. There was hot cocoa and fresh-baked warm cookies and hugs and confessions. Bruce snuck away just long enough to task Cyborg with looking into the GIW and Amity Park’s ghost problem. Jason discovered that the Pit goes from pissed wolverine to cuddly kitten if he held Danny close. So of course he cuddles right in, just for the Pit, no other reason, ignore the hair petting and the weird purring sound he made.
Eventually, they’ll all have to get up. Some to work, others to work, and others still for various other activities and responsibilities.
But that’s later.
For now, they comfort a grieving kid, and, maybe, plot the downfall of a certain Fruitloop.

Warning: ✨contains swear words, mentions of being high, and grammatical errors probably✨
Peter is the type of person who thinks of bold and outrageous plans, but is horrible at executing them.
This is especially apparent now that he is part of the X-Men, because of the high stakes that often come hand and hand with these plans.
Yet at this moment, standing in front of you, attempting to respond to your simple and reasonable question, he feels as though the stakes of this plan are higher than any other he has previously made.
You and Peter were very close, most of you X-Men were. Shared trauma bonded you all like a family. So you were very comfortable around each other, like the: "We literally laugh at each other's farts and say 'love ya!' When one of us leaves a room." comfortable, so it concerned you that he seemed so nervous. You repeated your, as previously stated, simple and reasonable question.
"Peter, what the fuck."
You were mid-way through Empire Strikes Back when he first appeared, standing in front of the TV. Generally, when someone is watching a movie alone with the volume level barely audible, at 2 AM in the morning, they do not expect to be interrupted, but there he was. Interrupting you.
So you had asked him if he wanted to watch the movie with you and he said no.
Then you asked him if something was wrong and he said no.
But after he had stood in front of the television long enough for you to have paused the movie, you had come to the conclusion that he was messing with you. Hence the two "what the fuck"s.
He finally responded, seemly returning to his body after his brain's small vacation to who knows where.
"I need to talk to you about something important, and I wanted it to go a certain way but that way never actually happens so I'm doing it another way." Well, that was even more incoherent than his usual sentences.
"Wait- are you high again?"
"No! No. Well, maybe a little- but that's not the point."
"Sure, now what's going on."
"We're like... technically co-workers because of us being X-Men and shit, right?"
"If Bat-Man and Robin are co-workers, then yes."
"Don't be self-deprecating, you're way cooler than a silly side-kick."
You raised your eyebrows at him, "I wasn't Robin in that analogy, but thank you."
"Wait, I'm Robin?"
"You are a grown man who just used the world silly un-ironically, and I feel like that's something Robin would do. Just to clarify I don't know shit about Bat-man."
"Hey I'm barely a grown man- I'm not 25 yet, that would entail being a grown man, and I've got time 'till then! Anyway, stop going off-topic."
"Then move on from being weirdly defensive about being an adult in the eyes of the state."
"Touché. So, we're co-workers."
"Correct. What's the point."
"That's a problem."
"Why?"
"Well, ok this needs to be prefaced so consider this me shushing you in a respectful and not sexist way. You have been shushed."
"...Ok?"
"Shh! Now I get to ramble. So you know movies?" He gestured towards the school's collection of movies that sat next to the tv, and you nodded confused. "So in these movies, things happen certain ways, but those certain ways seem just as scary as the opposite of those ways." Yeah, he was totally high. "So, wow I'm starting so many sentences with the word 'so'. Anyway- I want to tell you something but I don't want it to be like a movie but I don't want it to be like not in a movie either. So I just want to say it then leave. Like- I'm going to run after I say it. Is that okay? You are temporarily un-shushed."
"If you're dying it's not, but if it's basically anything else then yeah. Go for it, you speedy coward."
"Cool. I mean- the nickname hurt but cool. Cool." He looked at you for a second. "Can you like... turn around?"
"Turn around?"
He now acknowledged that that was an odd thing to ask. "...Yeah. Is that dumb?"
"No, no, I'll turn around." To lighten the awkward mood, you made a joke. "A reasonable price for your terrible secrets to be revealed to me." It was not a very funny joke, but you tried your best and earned a (pity) scoff from him.
You were now both sitting criscrossed on the couch, facing the same direction. You were staring at a wall you found very uninteresting, and he was staring at the back of the head belonging to a person he found very interesting.
"So- basically I think you're... pretty..." He said the word intending to add another adjective after it, like 'cool', but he decided against it because that would be stupid. "And I have this problem where when I figure out I want to, quote-unquote, date someone, which is a gross word, by the way, I'm always friends with them. That means it has to be this dramatic thing. But I don't want it to be! You know? I just want to tell you that I have a stupid crush on you like a normal person. And- that's why I suddenly started hating training, because who likes to see people they want to smooch almost fake die, huh? No one! That's who! And I want to explain why I like you, but whenever I talk to Wanda about you, I always end up describing you the way a first grader describes their crush! Like: she's pwetty and smawt or whatever but that's fuckin' dumb. I guess that makes sense because I don't have crushes on people ever, and I barely dated in school, so I have no idea how to do this and I just want to pass you one of those 'hey, do you like me?!' notes with the fuckin' checkmarks!! And I am an adult person who is kind of afraid of kissing! What?!? Also, I don't have abs like Scott! Or boobs, and I know you like people with or without boobs and boobs are great! Also, to backtrack, don't think that I think you would go for Scott, even though if you were to, I would be supportive of you, but also sad because I would prefer if you went for me! So I want to be normal. Normal like the people in movies who meet someone cute and ask them out and not like the movies with the big stupid confessions. Trust me, if I had noticed that I whatever you like a year ago, I would have asked you out! Well no I wouldn't of because I would be too afraid to talk to you. But anyway I made you this," He reached around you and handed you a folded-up note. "Don't open it until I run away, but just leave it here with your response. If you check no, I bet if we paid Jean enough money she would erase this interaction from our brains. I only have seven dollars but I'm betting on a 'friends and family' discount. But.. if you say yes, I can ask you out like a dick in a movie, knowing you'll say yes because I am a speedy coward. I want you to call me a speedy coward when I do cowardly shit speedily, then do this cute thing where you'd be like 'but you're my speedy coward''. Anyway, I'm going to leave now. Love ya, but in the way we always said it beforehand, not in a dramatic confession way. Sorry I delved into my childhood there. Bye." You felt him awkwardly pat your back.
There was a gust of wind that ruffled your hair, and you knew he had run away.
You lifted the note up, mind empty, still processing everything he had rambled to you, and started carefully unfolding it.
It was one of his previously mentioned "Do you like me?" notes.
You willed yourself not to straight-up giggle like a 12-year-old at his note. It was messily written, and clearly on the back of a mission briefing.
Shit, you didn't have a pen. You looked under the couch cushions but there was no form of a writing utensil in sight! The audacity.
You knew Peter well enough to know that he was probably not too far away, waiting for the result of his question and trying not to spy.
"Hey... uh... Peter? I don't have a pen."
Peter hit his forehead with his hand, where the fuck was he going to get a pen? It's not like he owned pens that were actually in a designated spot! How ridiculous would that be, who did he look like, Charles? Charles! Charles has pens in designated pen places!
So Peter ran into the headmaster's office and found a pen. He wrote a small note stating that he borrowed a pen and that he would return it. Looking at the note Peter found it did not fully encapsulate the desperate need for the pen. The note ended up something like this:
Hey Charles! It's Peter! I took borrowed a pen because a very serious situation manner situation has arised. arisen. From, Peter. You can't get mad at me because if you could legally marry my dad you would be married and I would basically be your step son! Thanks half dad!
He thought the addition of the 'step' in stepson effectively hid the fact that Charles was a father figure of his. What was he doing here again? The serious manner!
In an instant of you telling Peter that you did not have a pen, one appeared.
"Thank you!"
You checked the yes box, but had a want to write something adorable. You couldn't think of anything so you just wrote "This was weird." under your checkmark. Well played.
You entertained the idea of resuming your movie but decided against it, you thought it would be more dramatic if you left the room.
The minute you made your exit Peter sprinted into the room. He opened your note, jumped, pumped his fist in the air, realized that was nerdy, and tried to make a cool pose to recover.
Now he just had to figure out how the fuck he was going to ask you out.

Welcome to the Family
Happy Mother’s day to all the mothers and motherly figures out there! This story is kind of inspired by my relationship with my older sister, who was honestly more of a mother to me than our actual mom. She’s awesome and I wish I could see her today but quarantine sucks lol.
Also, too me Logan Lerman is Tim. He’s just so awkward and cute and nerdy, and I think he’d be a great Tim.
Tumblr media
Mother’s Day pt.1
“What the hell are you doing, Drake?” Damian’s snippy voice cut through the empty living room like a knife.
The once comfortably silent room, now held an awkward and thick tension as Tim Drake popped his head up from his work, annoyed at being interrupted.  He looked back down at the paper and other supplies cluttered around the coffee table for a moment, not even embarrassed at being caught. It was a normal thing that he started doing shortly after moving into Wayne Manor all those years ago; Damian was still the one who was the odd one out.
“Making Mother’s Day cards; what else does it look like?” Tim rolled his eyes, motioning his hand with a slight wave to the finished card at the edge of the table. That one was meant for his mother, he made sure to finish it first, wanting to drop it off at the post office tomorrow after school so it’d get to her in time.
“Tt.” Damian shook his head, crossing his arms against his chest. He took a seat at the other end of the couch to look over the older boy’s work.
Damian Wayne wasn’t the type for such sentiment. He scoffed at the idea of Mother’s Day. Could you just imagine him, an al Ghul, giving his mother a card? Though, he didn’t put it past someone as pathetic as Drake to be one to celebrate the commercial holiday. Even Grayson and his father celebrated, and their mothers were dead. They’d both journey to the cemetery and placed roses on their mother’s grave. But that made much more sense to Damian, than making a card, they were paying their respects, while Drake was just giving his mother a worthless piece of paper.
“A simple piece of paper will really satisfy your mother? Tt.” Damian leaned back into the couch, arms still crossed but now lifting his leg to rest on his other thigh.
“Yes. It. Will.” Tim gritted, not in the mood for Damian’s taunting and insults; he was actually in a genially good mood for once.
He moved to open his mouth again, clenching the marker in his hand tightly; who did this kid think he was? He was glad the kid was over his phase of trying to actively kill him but he still found pleasure in making Tim’s life miserable. He tried closing his mouth, not wanting to get into it again but the third Robin still felt the need to defend himself against the spoiled blood son. He pushed the disappointed look Bruce would surely show him away after the old man would end of having to break up another fight between the two boys.
“I’m not just giving her card; I’m also sending her a gift card to her favorite restaurant and another one for a trip to this day spa. It makes her happy and since I’m not around I want to make sure she knows I miss her. You know like normal mother and son stuff, not that you would know anything about that.”
Tim cursed to himself as soon as the bitter and smug words left his mouth. Shit.  He went too far; the dead silence that followed told him that much. He didn’t dare look up to see Damian’s face. He could practically feel the scowl, the deadly glare, beaming into the side of his head; it was like he was being blasted by Superman’s laser beams. Maybe that was being a little dramatic but Tim knew he shouldn’t have said that. He was better than stooping that low and saying something that brash. Even with the pair being fair from close, barely even being on speaking terms, Tim still knew how sensitive Damian was about his relationship with Talia.
He was half expecting to feel a punch come down from him, or a shove, anything that would physically harm him in response but much to Tim’s surprise he was just met with Damian’s signature sound, ‘Tt’, and then him shifting in his place. Tim scratched the back of his neck, unsure why Damian reacted so calmly, not that his body and pride weren’t complaining. He mentally shrugged and went back to making his second card.
The younger boy watched as Tim got back to work. He wanted to lash out at Drake’s dig at him and his mother’s relationship but Damian didn’t want to give Drake the satisfaction of knowing that he was insulted. He thought back to his father’s speech after their last fight about how they both needed to learn how to be the bigger person. Damian rolled his eyes at the memory and instead quirked an eyebrow up as he watched Tim begin to get back into making what appeared to be a second Mother’s Day card.
“Correct me if I’m wrong but last time I checked you only had one mother, Drake.” Damian said, nodding towards the second card.
“You would be correct.” Tim nodded, not looking up this time as he spoke. He reached for the blue Sharpie instead, filling in the bubble letters he wrote with it.
“Then why are you making another card? Did you realize how stupid that other one is and are starting over?” Damian pressed, leaning back once again to get comfortable.
Tim huffed, already over this conversation. It was times like this that he wished Dick and Halley still lived at home. Damian would be Dick’s shadow if he was here and not bugging him like this. With Halley, she’d swoop in the moment she felt a fight forming and would’ve gotten the demon spawn to shut up by now. But now that they were the only two left living at home Damian was all Tim’s problem. Maybe it was time to go back to the Titans?
“No, my mother’s card is done. This is for someone else.” Tim said, using his minimum art skills to draw a decent flower next to the y in Day. He huffed again when Damian responded immediately asking who specifically it was for. Tim let the marker drop from his grasp, losing his nerve. Rubbing his head, he pushed the hair fallen in front of his face out of his face, letting out a deep breath. Why did he care what he was doing? Damian has shown more interest in his current activity than he’s shown in anything in Tim’s life since they met.  “It’s for Halley.”
“Tt.” Damian rolled his eyes, smirking. “Halley isn’t your mother, Drake.”
“No, but since I’ve moved here, she’s always been there when I need her and she’s done so much for me so this is my way of thanking her and showing that I love her.” Tim let himself get cocky again, snipping right back at Damian. He put emphasis in his speech, knowing that not only was it true but it would rub Damian the wrong way. “I do this for her every year and every year she gets all mushy and loves it.”
Damian narrowed his eyes at the older boy. Was Drake questioning his relationship with his older sister? They may only be half siblings but that was more blood than she shared with anyone in the bat family. When the pair first found out they shared the same mother, Damian had been less then enthused about no longer being an only child and furious at his mother for failing to mention her having a child with Deathstroke. Halley had been just as shocked and angry, but at her father for never telling her. She wasn’t surprised but still angry. Though unlike him, she quickly rushed to try and get closer to the boy. Even though Damian wanted no part of it, Damian was clearly her favorite brother; right?
Drake said this was a yearly thing but why has he never noticed before? He did know that they would occasionally spend what they grossly called Mandatory Sibling Bonding Day together, where’d they’d go out just the two of them, much to the annoyance of Damian. He didn’t understand why she wasted her time with Drake; what could they possible do for fun together? Granted, she did do the same with Grayson whenever they were around at the same time. The pair of them also being close, Grayson having been the one to help get her out of her old life with her father, Slade Wilson.
Damian thought about how his sister had a close personal relationships with all the Robin’s and Batgirl’s, even the failure that Damian deemed as Stephanie Brown; Halley was close to them all, all but him. Though that wasn’t completely true, they did have somewhat of a bond. They both had what she phased as shitty-ass parents, her father being Deathstroke himself while his was the Dark Knight, and they shared the same mother, Talia al Ghul. They’d never known about the other until Damian was brought to live with his father by their mother and Halley had long been taken in by Dick and Bruce.
He still remembered their first meeting, they hadn’t yet known about sharing the same mother but yet she was still eager to accept him. He of course didn’t share her gusto, especially after Slade revealed that Talia was her mother after he attacked the League of Assassin’s and killed his grandfather. Damian wasn’t keen on having an actual sibling, especially one with the blood of Deathstroke. But they also shared the same al Ghul blood and was quite the efficient fighter. But they were both incredibly set in their ways and persistent, as she was dead set on getting the younger boy to open up while he was dead set to prove that he was the most worthy al Ghul.
It infuriated him enough that she said she didn’t care about being an al Ghul, having  no memories of being with the League of Assassin’s, as Slade and Talia agreed that she would go off to live with her father for her training. Damian said she was unworthy of the blood they shared and she didn’t deserve it. Though even now, he wouldn’t admit it but sometimes he swore he could still feel the pain from the beating she gave him when he tried to kill her in her sleep his first few months staying in the manor whenever he looked her way.
That was something he admired about his sister, again not like he would ever admit it, but her persistence was something he looked up to and even came to appreciate. Even after trying to kill her, being cruel, and treating her like how she treats Drake, at first even worse, she never gave up on him; a feat that no one else could say they’ve come close too; perhaps Grayson, but there were times where even the star-child of Bruce Wayne’s collection of wayward children would walk away from Damian’s outbursts because he simply had enough of the all give an no take. But not Halley; she’d stay every single time and with that she’d even give him a smile at the end of it.
She understood what it was like. Being raised by Slade Wilson was basically the same as being raised by Ra’s al Ghul. They never had a conversation about it, Damian always calling her a fool, she didn’t know what his childhood was like and then brushing her off. But who was Damian kidding? She made her first kill by age eight, so did Damian. She had expectations placed on her that no child should’ve been held up to, as did Damian. They shared bruises, scars and nightmares.
Grayson had tried with him, after his father failed but Halley was the one who truly helped him adjust to this new life he found himself in without even knowing it. What Grayson and his father didn’t understand was that you just couldn’t stop being who you were raised to be in a second, it took time, and Halley had been through the same transition. Granted she was looking to escape the life she had with her father whereas Damian was forced to be with his by his mother, but there were just some habits that where hard to break.
“You good there?” Drake’s voice cut Damian out of his thought process.
Damian snapped out of it, narrowing his eyes down at the card, noting Tim had stopped working on it and was looking at Damian as if he was a frozen computer screen. Scoffing, standing up to his feet, he uncrossed his arms, pointing a finger at the card for his sister. Trying to hid the fact that Drake caught him in such a deep thought, he cleared his throat before sneering,
“Her favorite color is purple, not red.”
Tim watched, mouth left agape as Damian made his way out of the room without another word. He took another look down at the card and grunted, reaching for a new piece of paper, getting ready to start all over again. What a kid, he thought as he got back to work.

A thread with no end
Cool metal lighter in hand, he finally takes a glance at the reason for all of this.
It's small, swallowed whole by the thick yellow clothes Sam has it in. It yawns, puppy-like, and fixes his wide eyes on Dean.
Blue. Big and impossibly blue. Its shades too light, closer to ice than ocean, but it pulls something loose in him. It's — it's almost like —
When Jack is born, he doesn't come out fully grown.
[Part One]
[Ao3]
Chapter 2
When the sharp edges of adrenaline settle, the last couple of days are a blur to think about. The absence of it is always its own kind of tired — aches become apparent again. His temples sting. All thoughts are filtered through sludge. His stomach gurgles out loud groans. The reminder is a desperate attempt to make bodily functions matter again, but the desire for food is numb. If anything it makes him sick.
He shakes his head, uses his free hand to blanket his face, pinch the bridge. Trapped under the rough pressure, his tear ducts throb. But it’s all right. It’s fine.
Fucking peachy.
Sloppy and mechanical, as Dean pulls the two of them off the ground. He doesn't look at the embers. The ash. His joins cry against all movement, each jagged step a chore. What should be solid ground slips loose under his boots. He has to catch himself with each half-stumble towards the house. Little snivels turn to full body whines, and Dean doesn't blame the kid. It can't be fun to get jerked around by some idiot that forgot how to walk right.
The door juts open with a creak, and whatever course of action he might've tried to take vanishes.
Unfiltered sunlight glimmers in through the curtainless window. Dust particles dance in yellow above the table where it's — it’s just empty now. His last pitstop. The last place Dean would ever get to look. To touch. Legs on autopilot, he trudges over.
Light glistens off the table's glossy finish. Glints against the discarded keyring Sam somehow remembered to salvage. Carefully, he skims the tips of his fingers over the cool surface, and dread sits like a rock in his stomach. It was warm, right after. But the air has long since leeched any heat Cas left behind.
Throat tense, he cups the keyring under his palm. Tightens his fist around it until the metal digs in and his arm trembles.
It's not fair. None of this is fair. They used to have more allies. Friends. Something they could fall back on after so long of having nothing, but none of it even lasts. Like the universe has decided The Sam and Dean Adventure just ain't multiplayer.
"Dean?"
He shoves the keys in his pocket. "Yeah. Down here."
Sam clunks down the steps and gives Dean a tight smile. Grey bags under his eyes highlight the bloodshot tendrils. His whole body slumped in on itself, the exhaustion of the last however-the-fuck long hitting him like a brick. Maybe he looks that bad too.
Over one shoulder Sam has the world's largest baby bag — lime green and burgeoning with diapers. The zippers stuck halfway around. It thunks when it hits the floor, and Sam shakes a bottle. "Made some formula. There's an extra in the side pocket."
"Thanks." Dean takes it. "Gonna have to toss the other one. Stuff can only sit out an hour."
Sam doesn't say anything to that, just scrapes a chair to the table, plops down, and buries his face in his hands. That's okay. Silence suits Dean just fine.
He repositions the baby in his arms, cradles the head against his shoulder so he's more upright. The kid latches on to the plastic nipple with ease.
The last time he fee a baby was a lifetime ago in some stranger’s home, babysitting with an ex-angel post attempted-murder. He and Cas had straightened out his not-dates house, and the baby started fussing. The bottle was already made. He didn’t think about it when he started feeding the kid. When Cas saw him, he gave Dean a pleased smile and said you're good at this.
It jolted his pulse. Compliments had a way of hitting him funny, but right then? In the low light of a picture-perfect suburban home? Right from the very human Cas who has sex and goes on dates and looks at Dean like he’s worth something?
Neck warm and mind blank, he offered to help Cas do it right without thinking.
And it was good, the light touches, soft adjustments that weren't necessary. But Cas never dressed down that much, so it was better than good. Dean spent the whole time thinking about how thin his cotton shirt was. Cas was smaller without the layers, and the warmth of him unfiltered. He tried to peel his hands away, but it was like he couldn't stop. Angel or mud-monkey, Cas felt strong and whole.
The comfort of the words stuck with him for days. The feel of Cas underneath him never left.
God, he should be here now.
The baby’s pudgy face grimaces, and Dean moves the bottle back until it evens out again.
"We need to figure out what we're doing." Sam's palms muffle his voice.
"We're going home. Welcome to the joys of parenthood. Here’s to hoping it doesn't kill us during puberty."
"It has a name." Sam drops his arms to his sides. "Jack. Kelly made videos on her laptop for him."
Dean rolls his eyes. "Well ain't that just lovely?"
Sam's jaw drops. "Dean."
He's two steps away from being the spitting image of some scandalized Victorian chick, and it crawls under Dean's skin.
"What? Jack here is the son of Satan, Sam. Fucking pardon me for not caring about mommy’s little home videos," Dean says. The baby — Jack, whatever — whimpers. Body tense, Dean slowly slides the bottle from his mouth.
"He's a baby, not a monster. And I'm just saying we don't have to — to tuck our tails and go home."
White spit-like liquid dribbles from Jack's mouth. Dean sighs.
"Fan-freakin'-tastic. I forgot babies did this crap." Dean sighs, storms over to the table, and places the bottle down with a hard clank. "I'm not seeing an array of options here. We can't exactly put a Nephilim up for adoption. Or hire a babysitter." Carefully, he brushes off Jack's mouth with the color of his onesie. It’s probably the cleanest thing they have to do it with.
"There's Mom. If the portal was opened once, there's gotta be a way to do it again. Maybe the Book of the Damned, or the Demon Tablet..." Sam perks up. "We could try and get Donatello to help —”
"Okay, I'm gonna stop you there." Dean lays Jack flat against his shoulder and pats his back. "First of all, you really want a soulless dude and Lucifer's kid bumping shoulders? Don't think they could be, I dunno, a bad influence on each other?" Jack releases a puff of air and Dean adjusts him back down. He levels a hard stare at Sam. "Second of all: Moms dead. Nothings gonna help that."
Sam doesn't miss a beat. "You don't know that."
Buzzing vibrates from Dean's pocket. He yanks it from his pocket for it. "Pretty sure I do. Lucifer ganked her the minute the portal closed."
"You can't —"
Unknown. He sends the asshole to voicemail.
Sam shakes his head. Sighs. "Whatever. Who was that?"
"Not Donatello." Well, it could've been. But whatever. He grabs the baby bag, then slings the lime green wrecking ball of a bag over his shoulder. "You've got Baby's keys. I'm taking the truck."
The coach squeaks. Before Dean can make it out the door, Sam grabs the strap. The force yanks him in place. Dean swivels around and glares. Sam drops his hand and gives Dean a weary look.
"Can we just talk about this?"
Dean swivels around. "I don't know what you want from me. Crowley's dead. Kelly's dead. Cas is —" Pain pangs his chest, a little twinge that sends pin-pricks through his torso, down his arms. His eyes dart away and land on the table. The discarded, half-finished bottle sits just outside of the sunlight’s path. "Mom’s gone. We even lost Rowena. So I'm gonna take the kid, find a motel the next state over, and put up whatever sigils I can to let the dick brigade know they aren't welcome. Rinse and repeat until we’re back home."
Sam scoffs, but whatever energy he had left is burned out. "Whatever. We'll talk later."
"Unlikely."
By the time Dean walks over to the table and grabs the bottle, Sam's halfway up the stairs.
Dean pushes past Sam and grabs the bottle. By the time he walks through the door, Sam's halfway up the stairs.
Ash has blown around the yard, smeared it in grey. Eyes downcast, pointedly away from the remnants, he beeline for the truck. Wind whistles by and smears ash across the lawn. Dean stares at the mustard-colored wet spots on Jack's clothes instead.
Cars are like a testament to the owner. The truck is immaculate. The burgundy shines — there’s not a spec of dirt marring the strips of pearl-white.
Dean doesn't bat an eye at the car seat. It’s green. Of course it’s green. His breath doesn't catch at the stupid cartoon bee sticker smiling at him on the car seat’s side.  And he doesn't think about Cas.
Not him stumbling through a Walmart visit to buy the thing. God, he bets the nerdy little guy compared brands, sifted through online reviews in the middle of the aisle. He doesn’t picture how pleased Cas must've been at finding a pack of sticks, of all things. How the rest of them are most likely sitting in the glovebox. How it was probably the last enjoyable moment he had. Dean doesn't think — he doesn't. Merely shrugs the baby bag off onto the floorboard, buckles Jack in, and clicks the door closed.
Sweat slick forehead pressed against the doorframe, Dean squeezes his eyes shut.
The last conversation he had with Cas is a blur. An actual conversation, not stress-filled bickering over the newest pile of shit dumped on their doorstep.
Dean tries to swallow, but the motion stops halfway through, and there’s nothing there to force down.
The last movie night he'd managed to drag Cas into was over a month ago. It might’ve been the last time where either of them were reasonably happy. The last time his lips would tilt up in that small way that knots Dean's stomach. It isn’t fair. It's all wrong, and there’s no way to fix it. No magic is strong enough to bring an angel back, The only witch that could’ve tried is dead too. And any power Heaven could spare wouldn’t be used to help him. There’s only one shot to take, and it's the same useless one everyone’s thought of trying at some point.
Dean grabs the side of the truck bed and turns his head towards the sky. He sighs. Here goes nothing. "Okay, Chuck. Or God, whatever. We need your help. You said — you said the world would be fine with us. It isn't. We've lost everything."
He takes a deep breath, rocks his head to the ground. "You left. And I've never asked you for anything. Never begged. But now you're gonna bring him back. Cas. Mom. Hell, even Crowley." His hand tightens. "You owe us, you son of a bitch."
"Please." It's begging. He knows it is and doesn't care. He’d beg for weeks straight if it wasn’t useless. "Please help us."
A beat passes. Nothing happens. He didn’t expect it to work. God's never really gave a shit before, has he?
It's fine. All fine.
Jack cries when Dean slams the door. He strangles the steering wheel between his hands, hands that itch to inflict. Hit. Destroy. Sure as fuck not to nurture, not to quell the newborn screams, because Cas was wrong. Dean isn’t good at this.
A handful of deep breaths later, he leans down and fishes out a pink pacifier from the bag. Jack latches onto it, his pudgy face relaxed. Blue eyes float up to Dean. Innocent, full. It stings, and Dean turns away before his body uses whatever scraps of water it has left to make him cry again.
When he brings the engine to life, Zeppelin creeps through the speakers, one track after the next in an order he memorized long before Cas got the chance.
He plays it front to back on repeat until hunger and exhaustion win out, and he finds a motel.

Tim’s Secret Weapon Pt. 5
I’ve been slightly obsessed with @ozmav ‘s Damian Wayne/Marinette Dupain-Cheng pairing as of late, and just saw a post that has inspired me more than anything else has in months, so I felt the need to write it
Summary- Tim has always seen the numbers floating above people’s heads, been able to perceive their threat levels with a single glance. After being a hero for so long he thought he was desensitized to seeing high numbers above people’s heads until Damian brings a new friend home. Part 1 Part 4 Part 5 (HERE) Part 6 _______________________________________________________________________ Dick got a look on his face.
A pinched sort of look that made it look like he was thinking something over intently.
It was a look that filled all of the Bats and anyone that knew him from his Robin days with a sense of dread.
“Dick…” Jason drew out slightly, “What are you thinking?”
“I’m going to do a thing,” He replied almost offhandedly, “Since she hasn’t seen us yet.”
“Don’t-” Damian didn’t even finish since Dick had already disappeared, causing Tim to bury his head in his hands.
“God that’s annoying,” The other three found themselves groaning in unison, their own inside joke even as found his path almost instantly.
The eldest son snuck through the crowd of teens unnoticed, surprisingly. Most would think that one would notice the thirty-year-old right outside the secondary school, but he easily weaved through the crowds and worked his way behind the baker’s daughter.
Marinette was too involved in his conversation with the blond to notice Dick grinning mischievously at her from behind the half wall she was leaning against.
In a swift move, the acrobat grabbed her and lifted her onto his left shoulder in one fell swoop, earning a high pitched squeal from the girl as he spun in a circle perched on the half wall and drawing almost all of the attention of the whole courtyard.
“Hello, Mari!” He greeted casually as if her hands weren’t twisted into his hair in her shock.
She blinked down at him, taking a few seconds to register what was happening before her face morphed into fond irritation, “Seriously, Richard?”
The blond, Neon Green 15, she had been talking to was staring in between them as if he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to be concerned or bemused.
“Ummmm… What’s going on?” the buff boy, White 12, from nearby asked, hand raised slightly.
Marinette glanced around and groaned as she realized that her entire class was staring at her up on top of Dick’s shoulders.
“Everyone, this is Dick” Marinette introduced, “He’s a family friend of sorts. Dick these are my classmates.”
“Nice to meet you,” Dick greeted waving a hand happily with Marinette still balance on one shoulder.
“Should have known Mari was skanky enough to get with a guy twice our age.”  The Batfam stiffened and turned to look at the origin of the voice. It was the girl Tim pointed out earlier as being dangerous, Copper 9, a wide smirk on her face as her posse snickered. None of them had to turn to feel the bloodlust boiling off of Damian, not that they would deny the red tinge to their vision. Marinette had wilted in a millisecond.
“Told you that was a bad idea, Grayson,” Damian snapped as the other three walked over much calmer than they were feeling.
Marinette lit back up at their appearance and started poking Dick’s cheek.
“Put me down. Put me down. Put me down. Put me down. Put me down.”
“Okay, Okay!” He laughed as he lifted her off his shoulder and passed him easily to Jason.
Jason grinned, holding her on his hip, “Hey Marigold,”
“Jay!” She giggled giving him a hug, “Not the brother I wanted, and don’t hand me to Tim cause he looks like he hasn’t slept this week and I don’t want to be dropped.”
Jason clutched his chest, “That’s so mean, sunshine! Though you’re right about Tim.”
“Rude,” Tim grumbled, but couldn’t stop the grin that came to his face, “but hug the devil spawn before he tries to rip our arms off.”
Damian glared at him, but as soon as  Marinette wrapped her arms around his neck he softened, placing a kiss on her hair, “Missed you, Habibiti,”
“Missed you too, Dames,” She giggled, excitement bubbling, "What are you guys even doing here? I know you don't like to travel too much."
Jason cut in, "Bruce was inspecting the Paris branch, so we just decided to tag along."
"Oh, Bruce is here too? I'll have to make some of those strawberry cream macaroons he likes."
“Brothers? Wow, that’s a new low,”
“Who the fuck are you?” Jason finally snapped, glancing over at Copper 9.
“Who are you?” one of the other girls standing with her, an obnoxious orange 5 twisting over her, asked, phone pointed at them,  “Cause showing up to a high school isn’t exactly a good look for post-college graduates, mister.”
“Well going from oldest to youngest, He’s Dick, as Mari already said, I’m Jason, that’s Tim, and the twerp that’s snuggling up to Marigold is Damian, her boyfriend.”
“We’re brothers,” Dick added, as the group around the two girls looked stunned while many of the others perked up.
“This the guy you’ve been telling us about huh?” The tiny pink-haired girl, Icy Blue 13, comments, giving Damian a considering look.
Buff White 12,  next to her smirked at them, “You do go for the lookers, huh, Nette?”
A red-haired boy, a lavender 4, laughed softly, “I thought he’d be taller,”
“Since when do you have a boyfriend?!” Orange 5 yelped, causing Mari to roll her eyes as she finally pulled away from the youngest Wayne.
“I’ve been telling you, Alya,” Marinette snapped making the boys blink. There was actual venom in her voice, ice pointily aimed at the other teen. Marinette never had real heat in her words, not even with the Rogues, “I started dating him a year ago, but you didn’t believe me.”
“Two soon,” Damian piped in, looking smug at the flabbergasted group.
“But you’re into Adrian!”
The blond boy, Adrian, Neon Green 15, frowned, “She and I are just friends. She’s been trying to get me with my crush for the last six months? Why on earth would you think she had a crush on me?”
Marinette shrugged, “I mean I did, but I got over it around your fourteenth birthday.”
“Wait,” the boy got a look of realization on his face, “Is that why you always stuttered around me?!”
“Oh my god!” Icy Blue 13 cried, “You can’t tell me you’re seriously that dense!”
“Homeschooled Alix!” He snapped back, “I was homeschooled by a recluse!”
“But if she’s not in love with Adrian,” The pixie cut blonde, Buttercup Yellow 3, questioned trembling slightly, “ Why has she been so mean to Lila?”
“Perhaps,” the nerdy boy, Nerdy White 12, pushing up his glasses, “Marinette’s feeling towards Lila has something to do with the fact that Lila’s claim of having a disease that causes her to do or say things she does not mean to can only be labeled as Compulsive Lying and yet half of the class believes every story that she tells and gets upset at anyone that dares to question her.”
“Shut it, Max,” Alya growled, “This has nothing to-”
“Utterly ridiculous,” The blonde girl, Canary Yellow 14 over her head, cut in without looking up from her phone, “You can’t seriously tell me this has nothing to do with Dupain-Cheng questioning Rossi’s idiotic stories.”
“No one cares about your opinion, Chloe,” Lila purred with an ugly scowl, “Or is it Chealse? I can’t keep up since your mother never seems to get it right.”
“Yeah, no,” Chloe continued, “That insult is like a year and a half too late, and I don’t have to do anything but ask questions.”
“What are you playing at, Bourgeois?”
Chloe looked up from her phone, eyes going to the group surrounding Lila, “At lunch, Lila was talking about her new boyfriend, right? Who feels like reminding everyone of who that was?”
The ginger girl, Tan 4, piped up, “She’s been dating Damian Wayne for the last month! They met at a conference for her nonprofit in Achu.”
Tim couldn’t stop the snort that escaped from him as Damian’s face twisted into disgust. Marinette’s hand covered her mouth to cover her smile but Dick and Jason didn’t even try to stop their laughter from shaking their frames.
“Of all the fucking people!” Jason wheezed, “You pick him!”
“Hey! Don’t laugh it’s romantic!” Canary Yellow 3 cried, tears pricking her eyes.
“Isn’t it Rose?” Lila cooed, eyes narrowed at the laughing group, “Dami-bear is such a sweet man.”
Chloe hummed, eyes sparkling, “I bet he is, but I have another question.”
“What?”
Instead of answering Alya’s question, she turned to the group that was laughing even harder, Dick and Jason were only standing from clutching to each other as they repeated, ‘Dami-bear’ over and over again.
“Do you boys happen to still have your passports on you?”
Tim held up a single finger as he tried desperately to regain his breath.
“What are you playing at, Chloe?” Alya snapped after a tense moment.
“Her point,” Damian growled, and suddenly Tim had a giggling Marinette leaning against his shoulder as the younger man stalked over “Is that I’ve never been to Achu.”
He thrust his passport into her camera lens.
Damian Wayne standing out from the page in stark clarity.
"Oh that note," Tim piped in, smirking slightly as he watched her nine wavier in place as if ready to flick down. Oh, how her tower of lies was crumbling, "using the Wayne to further yourself or claiming that one of us is cheating on anyone can be considered Defamation so I would suggest that you retract any statements you've made before we're forced to talk to our lawyers."
They didn't stick around to see the effect the pronouncement beyond the sickly color Lila turned as her whole posse turned to stare at her in disbelief. Alya looked panicked as the boys grabbed Marinette, who was practically vibrating with nervous energy and herded her towards their car.
Alfred raised an eyebrow, "Did you enjoy yourselves, sirs?"
"You know it!" Dick laughed, as they snapped their seatbelts.
"I hope they didn't cause too much trouble, Miss. Marinette."
"Hello Alfred," She greeted lightly even as her shoulders pulled up next to her ear, "It's nice to see you, and don't worry, they fixed a problem for me."
Tim wanted to ask, and he could see his brothers did as well, but Marinette shook her head.
"Can we go to where you're staying? I think my classmates are going to break out of their stupor soon and I don't want to face them yet."
Alfred's eyes were hard in the rearview mirror, but his voice was as level as ever, "Of course, Miss Marinette. Master Bruce actually would like to meet you at the hotel we're staying at."
"Let's not keep him waiting then,”
______________________________________________________________________
Telling Marinette they knew she was Ladybug could have gone in a lot of different ways, they were aware of this, and had planned for a multitude of them to try and ensure an easier time of getting the girl used to the fact that they knew and were in fact Superheros too.
What they weren’t expecting was for Marinette to pale the second Damian spoke the words, “We know you’re Ladybug,” and flip the platter of sweets into his face, effectively cutting him off before sprinting to the window screaming, “Spots on!”
They were not expecting a bright pink light to overtake her, nearly blinding them.
Tim was not counting on the fact that he could see her number through the blinding light as it faded to pure white as the numbers climbed higher and higher, vanishing once they reached 99, the light fading in the next millisecond to reveal Ladybug in all her glory.
They were not expecting her to open the 80th-floor window of their hotel suite and throw herself out of it, yo-yo catching the next building and flinging her away faster than humanly possible.
“Well,” Jason drawled, eyeing the carnage, “That went well.”

Chapter One: Misfits meet Mutants
Sixth grade, one of the most awkward and biggest turning points in any youth's life. Everyone is going through puberty, long-time friends are beginning to fight each other over petty things, and anyone that has problems at home feels even more helpless and lost. The last part couldn't be more true for childhood friends Maggie, Maddie, and Ash. It's hard enough that they're undergoing puberty, but on top of that their home lives are less than ideal for moody preteens.
Maggie has a decent relationship with her father; her mother, on the other hand, is another story. Her mother is not the nurturing type. Some would say that perhaps her mental health was to blame but that is certainly no excuse for the way she treats her daughter. It doesn't help Maggie's mood that her parents are always fighting, leaving the poor girl feeling alone and unstable.
Maggie sluggishly gets ready for her first day of 6th grade, not that she's really looking forward to it, she just wants to escape the shitfest she calls a house. The brunette brushes her hair and teeth before changing into a baggy black hoodie, jeans, and an old pair of tennis shoes. She swings her large backpack on and grabs whatever looks edible from the fridge before leaving her house and walking to the bus stop nearby.
Maddie had to wake up much earlier than her friends so that she had enough time to feed her two younger siblings and send them off to the bus stop. Being the responsible older sister she is, she always took care of her siblings. Her mother often chose sleeping over care of her younger children, leaving her eldest to do all the work. The young girl sighs, grabbing a Mountain Dew and a packet of Pop-Tarts before going to the bus stop. She texts Ash to see if her friend is awake yet.
The girls have known each other since kindergarten, they had gone through so much in elementary school and every experience made their bond much stronger. Maddie is happy to have a friend like her, she has no idea how she would have survived without Ash. Lord knows they'll need each other as they go through the very early stages of puberty. She climbs onto the school bus, texting Ash after sitting down.
Ash texts Maddie that she's awake and getting ready for school, trying desperately to drown out her fighting parents. The kind girl is used to hearing them fight every morning before they go to work. It's gotten to the point that she no longer needs an alarm to wake up. She stays in her room until they finally leave for work giving her a chance to grab something for breakfast. Quickly settling on a day-old seven-layer burrito from Taco Bell, she heads out the door, happy that summer is over and she's back in school.
Ash has been in a bad home for as long as she can remember, her situation only worsening when her mom met Gavin and later married him. When he came into her life, she stupidly fooled herself into thinking he was different from all her mother's other relationships. Now he's proven himself to be nothing more than an overweight, alcoholic, smoker that spends most of his time drinking and belittling her. What Ash wouldn't give to get rid of that asshole once and for all, then maybe she'll have her mom back.
All three girls have no idea that they're in for a surprise when they get to school. Maddie and Ash meet up in the cafeteria, easily spotting Maggie by her lonesome. "Hey stranger." Ash says as she and Maddie sit with the young Wiccan.
Maggie smiles at the two girls, remembering them from fifth grade and how kind they were to her. "How you girls doin'?" Maggie asks as she drinks some chocolate milk.
"Eh, kinda glad to be at school. Least I'm out of that damn house." Maddie shrugs while sipping on her Mountain Dew.
"I was at camp over the summer. It was definitely better than being at home all day." Ash adds, eating an apple.
"Sounds like y'all had fun. I was stuck at home all summer." Maggie scrolls threw her phone, absentmindedly looking at some memes.
Ash glances up, noticing her new neighbor in line to get breakfast. "Oh God, of course that idiot would be here." Ash groans, praying that she doesn't have any classes with him.
Meanwhile, the Hamato boys are in the car heading to school, "I can't wait! We're finally going to public school!" Mikey shouts while practically vibrating in his seat.
"Calm down Mikey, you're going to scare everyone." Raph grouches to his younger brother, still grumpy from waking up early. Leo was almost neurotically making sure he had everything in his backpack. Donnie surprisingly was the most calm during the car ride despite being extremely excited about getting to go to public school. He was focused on how he can learn far more under the instruction of qualified professionals than he ever could have while homeschooled.
Splinter is glad his boys are excited for their official first day of school. Although they had a rough summer moving from New York to Fort Worth, Texas, he was sure it was for the best. After all, being here would hopefully be good for his boys. Maybe Splinter will benefit from this as well. Once at the school, the boys rushed to get out of the car. "Have a good day, my sons!" Splinter exclaims, feeling a bit emotional watching his boys go inside.
The hours go by as well as expected on the first day; the usual confusion of finding one's class, the principal trying to be cool as she greets the student body over the intercom, all the cliche drawn out 'getting to know you' activities. The girls were separate most of the day, finally reuniting for gym class. "Hey, y'all heard about the four turtles that moved here?" Maggie asks as they change into their gym clothes.
"Yeah, I think I had one of them in my math class earlier." Maddie saw one of the Hamato boys in her class. The blue clad one if she remembers correctly.
"I saw them in the hall between classes, the one with an orange bandana is loud as Hell." Ash finishes changing and leads the three girls out of the locker room only to see the four turtles in their gym class.
"Great." Moaned all three as they sit as far away from everyone as possible.
"Okay guys, my name is coach Dianne and I will be your gym teacher for the next three years. It's our first day, so we're just going to do some stretches before we play dodgeball!"
Mikey looks around and sees the three girls sitting by themselves in a corner while they did some stretching. He stared, curious as to why they were so far away from everyone else.
Leo took notice of the scrunched up face his brother was making, "What are you looking at Mikey?" He follows his brother's gaze only to blush dark red. He hadn't expected to see Maddie in gym class with him. The poor guy hasn't realised he is slowly developing a crush on the short haired brunette, a bit clueless about things like this because of his isolated upbringing. Raph laughs quietly while watching his oldest, 'most mature,' brother turn redder than a ripe cherry at seeing a pretty girl.
Before Mikey could get the chance to walk up to the girls to say hi, the coach began splitting everyone up into teams so they could start playing dodgeball. Unfortunately for him, they are on the other team. Mikey tries to get struck out along with the girls, really wanting a chance to talk to them.
In spite of his brother's efforts, it is Donnie that gets struck out first. Being the tallest of his classmates makes him an easy target. Ash gets hit not long after by a lucky shot, despite her doing an amazing job at dodging due to her small stature.
She sits near Donnie, grabs a book from her backpack and begins to read. Donnie notes that she's reading Macbeth and can't resist but get a little closer to her. "So, um, I see that you're into Shakespeare. I like his work too." He says in an attempt to make small talk.
She glances up, surprised that someone actually wants to talk to her. Hardly anyone talks to her. "It's okay, not one of my favorites. I'm just reading ahead for my English homework." Ash replies to the tall nerdy terrapin, blushing as she takes a good look at him. He's pretty cute for a mutant turtle. An adorable gap between his teeth and enchanting red-brown eyes are two things she spots off the bat.
"Oh, where are my manners? I'm Donnie." The shy boy extends a large three digit hand, shaking Ash's far smaller one. He's blown away by how beautiful she is. Extra long espresso locks, soft pale skin, sweet sensitive brown eyes, she's an absolute angel.
"I'm Ash, it's nice to meet you."
Leo is next to get hit and forced to sit on the bleachers. His sapphire blue eyes widen when he sees Maddie get struck out and begin walking in his direction. He wants to talk to her, but he has no idea what to say. "Um, hi." Leo says, his voice squeaking a little. He brushes it off the best he can, especially now that he's gotten her attention.
"Yes?" Maddie questions, wondering what this nerd could possibly want from her.
"I, uh, saw you in math class, and I want to get to know you a little better." Leo fidgets awkwardly under her harsh gaze. With her standing in front of him, he can really admire her better. Short, honey-brown hair frames her face perfectly. Her face and arms are splattered with adorable freckles. But, it's her eyes that fluster Leo the most. They're a beautiful blue-green. The shades shift depending on how the light hits them.
"Uh okay, what do you want to know?" Maddie asks, not knowing why Leo wants to talk to her but open to talk. The fact that the blue clad turtle is fairly handsome may have slightly opened her up to discussion. Pine green skin and sweet round sapphire eyes? Swoon worthy.
"So uh, Mr. Evans is a nutcase huh?" Leo chokes out. Jesus, he sucks at flirting. Just being social is a struggle when you've been isolated for so long, how is he supposed to hit on someone? Everyone that was watching them could see he was struggling like Hell.
Raph and Maggie are soon struck out. The red banded turtle watches Maggie sit down and curl in on herself. He is pulled in by how mysterious she looks. Raph has no idea that in reality the young woman is a small angry gremlin. He swaggers over to her, in reality looking like a fucking idiot, "Sup! How are ya?" Raph asks the young Wiccan.
"Hi?" Maggie responds hesitantly, unsure why he's talking to her.
Suspicious of new people, she stays curled into herself. This doesn't exactly hide her as much as she wishes it did, however. Long, dark brown hair tied up in a ponytail, revealing and enchanting hazel eyes as she peers up at the intruder to her personal space.
"So how's your day going?" He asks, noticing that Maggie seems to be a bit wary.
She decides he's not posing a threat, at least not currently, "Eh it's what you'd expect on the first day of school." Maggie shrugs, humming non-committedly. She is just a bit unsure how to react now that Raph is talking to her. The two continue chatting about classes, Maggie letting Raph lead the conversation for the most part.
Finally, Mikey gets struck out of the game. "Hey guys!" The youngest turtle shouts, curious as to what his older brothers are doing. His face absolutely lights up when he sees that the girls he wanted to talk to earlier are now talking with his brothers.
Leo sees his baby brother making his way towards him and Maddie, he prays that Mikey doesn't embarrass him. Maddie sees the excitable turtle braces for herself. He seems nice but at the same time she's not sure if he's really friendly. "Maddie, this is my baby brother Mikey." Leo introduces the two, knowing Mikey wants to talk to her.
Mikey excitedly shakes Maddie's hand. He can't believe he has a new friend. "I love your hoodie! I'm a fan of My Hero Academia too!" Mikey exclaims, happy someone likes the same show he likes.
"Yeah? I just got into it recently. It's awesome!" Maddie says as she begins to talk to the orange clad turtle. Leo can't believe that Mikey took Maddie's attention away from him, then again, he should have expected this from his baby brother.
Casey spots Ash on the bleachers and heads over. He's eager to get to know his next-door neighbor, "Hey there, how's it going?"
Ash looks up at Casey and groans, why does he have to be her class? "Hi, I'm okay." Ash replied curtly.
Donnie wonders how they know each other. "So um, how do you two know each other? Do you have a class together or something?"
Ash shakes her head, "No he's my next-door neighbor, he moved into my neighborhood during the summer." She has nothing against Casey. It's just that he seems to follow her wherever she goes. Before they could have a chance to really talk, the bell rings for lunch. Ash sighs in relief as she grabs her things and Maddie so they can get away from all of these people. Maggie follows them, overhearing that they're going to hide out in the art room. Being in a quiet spot is better than being in the loud cafeteria.
The three girls wait in line to get some food, blissfully unaware that Mikey is planning to get the three girls to become his best friends. "So, you two gonna join any clubs or something?" Maddie asks as she grabs a tray of food and some milk.
Maggie grabs some food as well, sticking out her tongue at the choices, "I'm probably gonna join the band or something."
"I might join the cooking or arts and crafts club." Ash says, not caring how long she stays after school. It's better than being at home.
The boys are looking around for a place to sit only for their baby brother to drag them to the art room. "Mikey, where are you taking us?" Leo questions. Mikey doesn't answer, but his brothers have no choice but to follow him to make sure that he's okay. Casey goes with the turtles. He just feels like they may be fun to hang around. As the girls get settled in the art room, they hear muffled voices in the hall. They share confused looks until Mikey bursts through the door and sits down. The girls are startled and a bit nervous, but choose not to question it.
"Hi! I'm Michelangelo, but you guys can call me Mikey. I saw you guys in gym class and wanted to get to know you." Mikey bounces excitedly as he sits in front of the girls.
Once they enter the art room, Leo, Donnie, Raph, and Casey stop to catch their breath. Leo and his other two brothers begin apologizing for Mikey's behavior. Unlike the orange clad baby, they could recognize he was acting like a total stalker. The girls accepted their apology, seeing that Mikey means no harm. And who could say no to his adorable face? Especially when he just wanted to make friends!
"So uh Mikey, what elementary school did you and your brothers go to?" Ash asks as she eats her Burger.
"Oh we've been homeschooled until we moved here in June." Mikey replies as he eats his tots.
"Yeah, we're actually from New York. But Dad wanted to move here so we have a better education." Donnie adds as he peels an orange.
Maddie is stunned, "We don't usually get a lot of people from up North, they think our weather is too crazy."
"Yup, Texas has crazy weather." Maggie adds.
"No kidding! How can you survive in this weather? How do you walk around in the summer heat without dying?" Leo asks, amazed how anyone can stand the heat at all.
"We were raised in it, that's just how we are." Ash says as she doesn't think that heat is that bad.
Maddie and Leo blush when their eyes meet. They can't help but glance at each other, finding each other cute. Mikey notices their stares as he talks to Ash and Maggie, he's definitely going to tease Leo later.
"So what was it like in the Big Apple?" Maggie questions curiously.
Raph was happy to answer that question between bites of his burger. "It was okay, we mainly stayed in the house. Dad was paranoid about something happening to us."
The girls were surprised. Not only did they not see much of New York, but their dad was concerned enough for their safety that they moved so far away. "It's pretty cool, I want to go back when I get older." Casey stuffs his face with soggy tater-tots, continuing the conversation by telling them some stories he had from the few years he lived in the big city before moving.
The tweens continue talking to each other, and the girls are pleasantly surprised that they are having fun with these New Yorkers. The three girls are used to living in solitude and only talking to others when they have to, so this is a nice change. Mikey is just happy to have made some new friends on his first day of public school. Everyone is enjoying themselves as they chat among each other until lunch is over and they must go to their next lesson.
Donnie and Ash blush when they see they have the same science class. Ash thought she's the only one in the honors courses, unaware that Donnie is just as big a nerd as she is. The rest of the day goes by fairly well, the bell promptly releasing the students from class. The day is over, and they're free to go home.
The Hamato boys patiently wait for Rat Dad to come and pick them up. Mikey sees Ash and Maddie are waiting for their late bus and waves at them. Smiling when they wave back at him.
Leo soon sees Rat Dad's car, "C'mon Mikey, Father's here!" He shouts. Raph, seeing Mikey had seemingly completely ignored Leo, grabs his baby brother's arm and yanks him into the car.
"I assume you boys had a good day at school?" Splinter questions hopefully as he watches his boys get into the car.
"We had a great day Papa! I made some new friends!" Mikey shouts as he puts his seatbelt on.
"Yeah, we met them in gym class. They're really nice." Donnie says, a bright blush on his face.
"They're nice girls." Leo adds, getting Splinter's attention.
Splinter is apprehensive that the first friends they made were girls, though knowing his youngest he has no reason for concern. Mikey just wants to be friends with anyone and everyone. The more Splinter listens to what Mikey tells him, the more he relaxes as he can tell that Mikey is just trying to be friendly. Rat Dad is relieved that his boys had a good day at school, he had worried that moving here wouldn't turn out the way he had hoped. Thankfully Fort Worth seems like a great choice for him and his boys so far. If only they knew this was just the beginning of their new lives.

Characters: Logan, Patton, Virgil, Janus, Roman, Remus, Emile, Remy, Valentino
Relationship(s): Moxiety
Summary: Hazbin Hotel AU. Go here if you want a preface of who’s who and see the character designs
When there’s a surprise guest at the hotel, Patton gets all hands on deck to make sure the guest gets a proper welcome. However, things get put on pause after he heads to Logan’s room and finds something out about their spidery friend.
Trigger Warning: themes of sexual assault and abuse
—————
It had been a very normal, very quiet day at the hotel. Emile was running around the lobby, dusting and cleaning the cobwebs that had been woven by spiders overnight. Janus was drinking cheap wine behind the bar, though insisting, “It’s soup. It’s too early for alcohol.” Roman was wandering around absentmindedly, checking on things and occasionally picking on Virgil, who was in charge at the time as Patton was out, pinning up posters anywhere he could to advertise the hotel.
And, though it seemed to everyone else that these posters would be a lost cause, given how most demons had initially reacted to the idea of the hotel, they apparently weren’t.
For, at around midday, the front door opened. And in stepped a demon.
He was a bat demon, wings folded behind his back, and two black bat ears poking out of his hair. He wore a black jacket, white shirt, and black skinny jeans. He was texting on his phone as he stepped in, one of Patton’s posters in his other hand.
“Hey, babes, this is the ‘Happy Hotel’, right? I wasn’t too sure, since the sign says ‘Hazbin’. Might wanna update the flyers.”
Virgil looked up from where he had been sitting on the couch, eyes widening. He went to get to his feet and welcome the demon, but before he could, Roman was already welcoming them in
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, welcome to the Hazbin Hotel! I’m Roman, I run this fine establishment.”
The bat demon raised his eyebrow. “I thought that Lucifer’s son did?” He paused. “Wait, Roman? The Radio Demon?”
“I work with Patton! He owns it, but I’m helping him run it. And so is that boyfriend of his, I guess...”
Virgil rolled his eyes, going over to the bat demon. “Sorry about him. Just come on over to the reception and we can check you into a room, Mr...?”
“Just call me Remy, babes.”
Virgil led Remy over to the counter, where Janus pulled out the guest book, blowing the dust off of it. He opened it to the first page, where there was only a single line filled in: ‘Logan “Angel Dust”.’
“Angel Dust’s still living here, huh? Thought you’d have kicked him out after the whole turf war thing,” Remy said.
Virgil sighed. “Trust me, I wanted to. But Patton insisted he deserved another chance.”
“Yep, I did! And I think it was a good idea. I mean, he hasn’t joined any turf wars since then, has he?” Patton was standing in the doorway.
“He’s still an addict and offering his usual ‘services’. Remember he invited us to his strip show a week or so back? Still a sex worker,” Virgil shrugged.
“Come on, now, this is a sex worker positive environment!” Patton said, wandering over. “And the whole point of this hotel is to help people who are sinning, not kick them out for sinning. I’m sure, with our help, he’ll make progress and be clean from drugs in no time!”
Janus scoffed. “His stage name is literally the drug he’s addicted to. I doubt it’ll be that easy. Plus, just because you’re sex worker positive doesn’t mean those guys up in Heaven are.”
“Well... we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. Anyway... who is this?!” Patton turned to Remy, grinning from ear to ear.
“Remy. Nice to meet ya, gurl.”
“You too! Oh, you’re going to love it here! Now, I’ll show you to your room-“
“Actually, think I wanna get a tour first, see what facilities and stuff you got here. Plus, I’d quite like to meet Angel, I’m a bit of a fan of his.”
“Oh, sure! In that case, I’ll go get him. Verge, Ro, while I’m gone, why don’t you show Remy around?”
Virgil raised an eyebrow. “Um, I think it’s better I go with you, Pat-“
“Sounds wonderful!” Roman grinned. “Come on, we must get going, there’s so much to see!”
And with that, Virgil found himself being pulled away by Roman, Remy following behind. Patton smiled as he watched them go, before turning and heading to the elevators. He headed up to the floor Logan’s room was on, before heading down the corridor to the room.
When he arrived, he knocked on the door, but didn’t wait for a response, immediately opening it.
“Logan, you’ll never believe this, but we have another guest! It’s so exciting! And they want to meet you, so let’s head down... stairs...” Patton trailed off, blinking in disbelief.
Logan was sat on his bed, Fat Nuggets curled up to his side. However, the thing that caused Patton to be surprised was what Logan was wearing and what he was doing.
He was wearing glasses, which wasn’t new. When he first moved into the hotel, he’d explained he mostly wore contacts, but would trade them for his glasses in the privacy of the hotel as they were more comfortable. Along with the glasses, though, he was wearing a baggy sweater and jeans - a far cry from his usual tight suit that showed off his body.
And he was reading. A very thick book, and by the looks of the cover, a scientific one. In fact, there was a cardboard box on the floor beside his bed that was filled with books and... academic papers?
Logan looked between Patton, and the book in his hands. “Uhh... It isn’t what it looks like. Books... get me hard? This is all for sexual purposes?”
“Logan...” Patton spoke slowly, a smirk pulling at his lips. “Are you... a secret nerd?”
Logan sighed. “... I’m not gonna be able to get out of this am I? Fine. Yes. I admit it. I am a nerd. I like astronomy and science and math and all that shit. But you can’t tell anyone, okay? This stays between us, no one can know.”
Patton’s smile fell. “Why not?” He came over and sat on Logan’s bed. “You shouldn’t hide your passions and the things you enjoy. You should express yourself and embrace them!”
Logan scoffed, folding his arms. “In case you’re forgetting, I have a reputation to maintain. I’m seductive, alluring and sexy as all hell. ‘Nerd’ doesn’t exactly go along with that. People won’t exactly want to accept my services if they think I’m just gonna ramble about quantam mechanics for the whole time. And not just because they’d think I’m boring and lame. It’s what Val told me: I’m already hotter than others. People feel like shit if they think you’re both hotter and smarter than them. If it gets out I’m smarter than the average demon, people won’t pay to be around me because I make them feel bad about themselves. So, it’s much more profitable to just play dumb all the time, as then they think they have at least one thing up on me.”
“So... to get work... you need people to see you as lesser than them?”
Logan shrugged. “Yeah, pretty much. That’s how demons are.”
Patton frowned. “That isn’t fair at all! You shouldn’t have to be forced to hide part of yourself. And even if you weren’t smart, that fact shouldn’t make you lesser than others.”
“Eh, I do what I have to. And I still get to enjoy my nerd shit in private. It’s not too bad.”
“It is, Logan. It really is. You shouldn’t have to live a lie like that.”
“Well, I do, and there’s nothing you or I can do about it, okay?” Logan snapped. “If I were open with this shit and Val found out, he’d-!” He paused. He took a deep breath. “Just go, Patton. And don’t tell anyone about any of this.”
“But-“
“I said go.”
Patton sighed. He reached over and gave Logan a comforting pat on the shoulder, the other flinching. Then, he turned and headed to the door. He gave Logan a comforting smile, before gently closing the door behind him.
Logan sighed, gently hugging Fat Nuggets. His eyes drifted to the mirror. As he watched, someone appeared behind him in his reflection.
In the reflection, Valentino slipped one hand up Logan’s sweater and the other into his pants. Logan tensed, trying to remind himself this wasn’t real. Just a hallucination.
“Angel... what did I say about these kind of things?” Valentino smirked, looking down at the reflection of the box of books and papers.
Logan didn’t respond, just hugging Fat Nuggets closer in an effort to comfort himself.
In the reflection, Valentino slid his hand further up Logan’s sweater until it came out the other end and gripped around Logan’s neck. “I don’t like you thinking you’re better than me... Your intelligence doesn’t mean shit, especially in our industry. Give. It. Up.”
Logan shook his head, closing his eyes. When he opened them again, his reflection was normal again. Valentino was absent from it.
Logan sighed again, leaning back on his pillow as Fat Nuggets licked his cheek. After a moment, he pulled out his phone.
Logan: Meet me at the drug vending machine outside the store. I need some fun to distract me.
Remus: You got it, Lo!
Remus: But won’t those hotel guys be mad at you? They weren’t exactly happy last time we went out and tore shit up together.
Logan: I really don’t care right now. I just need some fun. See you in ten?
Remus: Fuck yeah!!!
Logan pocketed his phone, before getting to his feet. He put the book he’d been reading back in the box, which he then took to his closet. Once it was hidden away, he took off his clothes and replaced them with his usual blue and white striped suit. Then he went over to his dresser, taking off his glasses and putting them away, and then placing in his contacts.
Once he was all changed, he picked up Fat Nuggets. “Let’s see if Janus will look after you again while I’m out.” And with that, he left the room, heading to the elevators and down to the lobby.
In the lobby, Roman and Virgil had just finished giving Remy the tour and returned. Patton happily welcomed them back.
“So, what do you think?”
Remy nodded. “Pretty nice place you got. Being ‘redeemed’ seems like a pretty good bargain to live here. Feels like I should be paying hundreds.”
Patton smiled. “I’m glad you like it! Now, um, about meeting Logan, that’ll probably have to wait. He’s, uh, dealing with some stuff right now.”
“Are you sure about that?” Roman asked. “He’s right over there!”
Patton turned around and, as Roman had said, Logan was there, stepping from the elevator.
“Oh, Logan! Why don’t you come and meet our new guest! Apparently they’re a fan of yours!”
“Sorry, but it’ll have to wait. I’ve got somewhere to be.” Logan headed over to the front desk. He leant against it, giving Janus a wink. “Think you can look after Nugs for me again?”
Janus groaned. “I’m not looking after that fucking pig agai-“
“You will? That’s great! Here you go, make sure he’s treated well. Daddy’ll see you later, Nugs.” Logan handed the pig over to Janus, before turning away and heading to the door.
“Where are you going?” Virgil asked, folding his arms.
“If you must know, I’m meeting up with Remus.”
“Remus?! The guy who dragged you into the turf war that ruined our reputation the last time you hung out?! No way in hell are you meeting up with him!”
Logan huffed, turning back to the others. “Two things. One: he didn’t drag me into it. I joined willingly to pay him back for helping me out. And two: that wasn’t the last time we hung out. Remember that time last week I invited you guys to my show and literally all of you no showed? Remus came round after, and he and I hung out for a bit. It was perfectly calm, no destruction.”
Patton raised an eyebrow. “He came here? How come none of us saw him come in?”
“He climbed through my window. Now, I’m not letting you guys stop me from seeing my best friend. You don’t have the right to. So, I’m heading off.” And with that, Logan turned and left the building, the door slamming behind him.
“He’s in a good mood...” Janus muttered, setting Fat Nuggets down on the counter and opening a bag of chips for him to munch on.
“That might be my fault...” Patton chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of his head. “I walked into his room before he said I could come in, and found something out that he’d wanted to keep secret.”
“He has secrets?” Virgil asked.
Patton nodded, before whispering. “He’s a super smart nerd.”
Janus scoffed. “Logan? Smart? No way.”
“He is!” Patton nodded. “He was reading a sciency book, and owns a bunch of academic papers to read for fun. And we only have those in hell to act as torture devices! He just hides it because he thinks it’ll ruin his business if people think he’s a nerd. Y’know, since nerds aren’t ‘sexy’. I tried to tell him he should embrace who he is, but he wouldn’t have it.”
Virgil shrugged. “Well, what do you expect? I think we all know he’s stubborn as hell. C’mon, lets go show Remy to his room. We’ll deal with Logan when he gets back.”
Patton nodded. “Okay... Well, Remy, it’s this way! Come on!”
-
“-and of course there’s a phone here for room service! You can decorate however you want, as well! So... what do you think?”
Remy nodded, sitting on the bed. “It’s perfect, babes. Thanks a ton.”
“No problem!” Patton smiled. “Let us know if there’s anything we can do for you.”
“Will do,” Remy said as he pulled out his phone as it buzzed. He chuckled. “Looks like Angel Dust - or, I guess Logan, since you all seem to call him that - is having some fun.”
He held up his phone for Patton and Virgil to see, the former sighing and the latter groaning.
On the screen, Katie Killjoy and Tom Trench were discussing a series of destruction and explosions that was going on across the pentagram. And the footage from the scene clearly showed the ones behind it were Logan and Remus.
“Well... at least it’s not technically another turf war?” Patton shrugged as Virgil held his face in his hands.
“We’re ruined....”
“No, we’re not. It’s gonna be okay. Remember, Verge, we have Remy here too, and I’m sure more guests will follow. And it’s not totally Logan’s fault. I’m probably the one who made him upset to the point he decided this was the only way to get his feelings out. In the future, I’ll wait until he says ‘come in’.”
“That may be true, but it doesn’t change the fact he needs a healthier coping mechanism that doesn’t involve blowing up the whole city.” Virgil sighed. “And all this because he doesn’t like the fact people know he’s a nerd...”
-
“So, why’d you want to come wreak some havoc?!” Remus called as threw a molotov at the building across from the one he and Logan were currently standing on the roof of.
“Patton walked in on me reading,” Logan explained, throwing a bomb at a store a couple of buildings down. “He knows I’m a secret smarty pants. He promised me he wouldn’t tell anyone, but I really doubt he’ll keep that promise. Knowing him he’ll accidentally let it slip. He’s probably already told his boyfriend. I just wanna make it clear, in case it does get out, that me being a nerd doesn’t make me any less of a force to be reckoned with. Oh, also, you mind taking some pictures of me for Insta? Also gotta make it clear being a nerd doesn’t change the fact I still look flawless.”
Remus laughed, pulling out his phone. “No problem. Don’t worry, Lo, if I hear anyone talk shit about you, I’ll make sure everything they own gets blown to smithereens!”
“Thanks, babe.”
“No problem. Anything for my best friend. Now, lets go! We got more places to destroy!”
And with that, the two of them ran off, jumping from building to building, and tossing bombs everywhere they went and Remus occasionally snapping photos. And Logan made sure to ignore his phone ringing in his pocket.

I've talked about Foop's learned helplessness several times before, but man... I think it really says something about his character that even when he's in a position where he could theoretically attack Vicky with no consequences (i.e. he will not be immediately zapped with the Anti-Fairy Council's magic for attacking someone he's supposed to protect), "Certifiable Super Sitter" comes along and he just... falls right back into his whimpering, submissive behavior.
Because that's the thing: Foop will never stand up to Vicky to protect himself. He screamed at the top of his lungs when the Anti-Fairy Council sent him out to find her. He took a detour to get gifts because he was afraid she'd hurt him (and she did, immediately).
He'll go along with all her demands even when he's having an absolute mental breakdown because he's holding a glass of lemonade and started thinking about fruit bats and now he's crying and throwing things and screaming. my son.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He'll lie low when she's getting cookies out of the oven, he'll let her put her feet on top of him, he will float there in silence watching her attempt to murder Poof which was heavily implied in "Timmy's Secret Wish" to be a thing that will kill Foop too, he will get pushed to his breaking point to the point he starts using green magic instead of his usual blue...
... the only time he will ever stand up to Vicky is when he's protecting Timmy or Chloe. He went down screaming in "Fairy Godcouple" while protecting Timmy... He attacked Vicky while pushing through a magical lightning attack. He did it. He won. But that was Season 9... and Season 10 comes along and he's right back to letting her push him around. He can't do it. He won't risk Vicky's wrath.
Until Vicky's going for Chloe with the chainsaw. And then he throws himself in the way. No hesitation. Because even though he's been so cruel to Chloe for several episodes, she forgives him. And he's falling apart.
He can't stand up to Vicky for himself or even for Poof (or Sammy, or his BFFs Crocker and Dark Laser), but touch the kids he cares about and he will rip you apart, no matter what pain he has to push through.
Immaculate character development for a baby who was born, chose violence within 5 seconds, and got thrown in solitary confinement when he was 1 day old. 10/10, no notes.
tl;dr - Chloe letting Foop set stuff on fire at the end of "Certifiable Super Sitter" while she hugs him and "looks the other way" is amazing. And great character development for her rule-obsessed nature, too.
Also Foop screaming "WANNA BET, BAT LADY!?" at the top of his lungs while whipping 20 million volts of electricity at Vicky and suffering lightning damage himself lives rent-free in my head <3

IT31 || The Walk Of Scares
The one where Stan and Mike go on a walk of scares and things get a little...twisted.
word count: 881
Read on Wattpad
19/31 Previous | Next
"I hate these things" Stan sighed heavily. He walked alongside Mike who had a big goofy smile on his face.
"How can you hate scare walks? It's Halloween! This is the time for spooks!" Mike sounded nerdy. It kinda made Stan grin but he quickly hid it by rolling his eyes and shooting a playful glare Mike's way.
"I hate it because of the spooks" Stan grumbled. Just as he said it, a little girl all dressed in white to represent a ghost along with her pale complexion, jumped out and screamed at Stan and Mike. They both jumped back before Mike started laughing. Stan groaned and walked past the little ghost girl. "Not cool!"
"Good job little child" Mike complimented the actress before running to catch up with Stan. A sound of a running chainsaw came from just ahead within the trees. A woman's scream followed before it was cut off. Hysterical laughing followed before mysterious liquid, stuff to represent blood, splattered out from just behind the next tree. Droplets landed on Stan and Mike's clothes and skin.
Stan whined and pushed Mike to lead, hoping he'd be hidden enough behind Mike to avoid anything else coming their way. He was wrong. Minutes later a woman walked up behind Stan and screeched just behind his head. Stan yelled in freight, causing Mike to laugh again.
"This is the worst thing you've forced me to do!" Stan complained. Mike just gave him a smirk. The woman ran off.
They passed creepy little demon girls, very realistic ghosts, and murderers showing off their weapons and victims.
"You have to admit, they did such an amazing job. Look at that dead body over there! It looks so real" Mike whispered to Stan. Stan looked over at it and made a disgusted face.
"Looks too real" Stan mumbled back. Mike rolled his eyes and wrapped his arm around Stan's shoulders. Stan rolled his eyes too but let a little grin show through.
Then, a little girl held out a plate from the side of the path.
"Hiya misters! Want my finger foods?" she giggled and batted her eyes. A snack that looked like realistic tiny fingers rested on the plate.
"Are we supposed to actually take this?" Mike muttered softly, knowing the actors weren't supposed to break character. Then the girl grabbed one of the snacks, shoved it in Mike's mouth, and giggled harder. Mike ate the realistic looking finger, forcing it down with a disgusted face. "Th-Thanks" he gagged before pushing Stan further along the path. "Ugh I don't even wanna know what those were made of"
Screaming came from deep within the woods behind them. They came from people who were after them in the line for the walk. Mike and even Stan started to chuckle. Red and blue lights were up ahead, catching both of the boys' attention.
"Bet the cops are going to be dead" Stan guessed. Mike nodded in agreement. They walked up past the cop cars that were crashed into the trees. A man was busy stabbing one of the corpses with a large chef's knife. The man quickly turned around and looked at Mike and Stan before he dashed after them.
Stan was the first to take off, running along the path. Mike followed, laughing hard and also giving off little squeaks of terror. The boys continued running before a cop jumped out from behind a tree and shot the man. The man fell dead and Stan shivered in fear. Mike just laughed, holding his stomach.
"Are you two okay? What are you laughing for?" The cop asked, his tone sounding serious.
"Oh fine! Just fine!" Mike waved at him, going along with the act. Stan just stood holding himself, checking out the dead murderer with a bullet hole between his eyes.
"You two need to get out of here, now" the cop gently grabbed both of their arms and ushered them to his car that was blocking the path.
"Is this part of the scare walk?" Stan asked Mike.
"Scare walk?" The cop asked, raising an eyebrow. "That's what this is advertised as?"
"Uhh.. Yeah?" Mike asked. "Groups came in before us and there's a group behind us" Mike muttered. Worry started to overcome him. "You're acting really well"
"Son, I'm not an actor" he whipped out a legitimate badge and showed it to the two boys. "There are real killers in these woods, you two need to get in the car now" the cop hurried them in then got in and got on the radio to contact backup.  Mike and Stan stared at each other with big eyes, their jaws dropped. "We need more help down here at the Muller woods. The groups coming in need to be stopped. We now know why all these teens are out here" the cop rambled on.
Stan slowly looked down at himself at the blood on his body. He started to shake. Mike looked at him and slowly raised an eyebrow.
"This is real blood, Mike" He whispered. Mike looked down at himself and his jaw trembled. Tears formed in his eyes.
"W-Was that a real finger I ate back there?" he suddenly felt worse than he did before. He clutched his stomach. "I'm going to be sick"

Knox and baby son soleiyu fic.
I probably won't ever have kids but i always wanted to name my son soleiyu after my favorite castlevania character.
Nerdy i know and I'm very sorry now on to the story.
Knox carefully and gently held his newborn son soleiyu in his arms. The tiny child sucked on his fist.
And knox looked down at him lovingly. soleiyu was beautiful he had big beautiful blue eyes and striking blonde hair.
He looked over at his wife who was sleeping after her excruciating child delivery.
After all they went through. Knox doubted he'd ask her to carry the next Harrington any time soon.
He was glad he wasn't a woman childbirth was way too scary.
soleiyu sneezed and knox broke out in a big grin.
''Aw man bless you little guy." He cooed. The baby bat his eyes at his father before attempting to cry.
And knox gently placed a pacifier in his mouth calming him down.
''Man don't cry little dude because I'm going to cry if you do." Knox tried to keep his cool it was no time to get emotional especially when his son and wife needed him.
Knox went over and opened the curtian letting in the sunlight and brightening the room.
There was a rainbow outside and knox showed his son all the pretty colors.
'' look soleiyu it's a rainbow outside just for you." He said cheerfully.
soleiyu looked at the outside world and yawned slowly going to sleep.
Knox sat down with his son until a nurse took the child away for bedtime.
Feeling nothing but love and pride his son truly was the light in his life.

Halloween ask answers for @grammarnazikun
Afraid: What’s something you’re no longer scared of?
I’m still scared of a lot of things, but I’m better at eating out at restaurants now. I’ll at least eat at one if I’m asked to. XD
Bats: Do you sleep with stuffed animals?
I don’t anymore. As a kid, I’d sleep with a massive pile/wall of stuffies. I do still own all of my stuffed animals from when I was a kid, which is a lot... I also have newer nerdy ones too. XD I love stuffed animals. ^-^
Skeleton: Have you ever broken a bone?
I have sprained a lot of bones. XD Falling down stairs, tripping, catching a basketball wrong... but my one bone that I have ever broken was a few years ago and the dumbest thing ever. XD We have a mattress on a futon as our bed and the end of the bed has a wooden arm rest.... I somehow kicked it in my sleep and broke this tiny bone that’s beneath your pinky toe in the bottom of your foot. It’s tiny. I mean tiny... there are two there and they’re free floating.. but it made it unbearable to walk and I had to wear skater shoes and use crutches to walk.  XD  So special. XD
Tumblr media
Ghost: Have you ever had a supernatural encounter?
So many. Too many to count. My whole life is filled with them. I started seeing ghosts, hearing them, and what not when I was 3 years old. It runs in my family. I tend to buy things that have spirits attached to them. They come to me to show me how they died, to talk... Sometimes it’s family, but a lot of times... they’re random people. The worst places for me to be because I get bombarded with them is the Titanic exhibit that travels around or anything with artifacts really... XD old buildings... antique shops... I love antique shops, but it can be overwhelming. My parents house is haunted with family and random people. I spent time telling spirits to go away or let them hang around. It depends. I had a therapist, that was also a spiritual person, teach me how to use the white bubble that you see in Le Noir Tattoo to push them away from me and to block myself. If you’ve read that story then you know what that is. Not knowing how to block yourself off can be dangerous. I don’t get scared... unless they scare me or they’re negative. Scare me like they appear out of no where. XD That’s happened. Or they show me how they died through a dream and I wake up to them towering over me in bed. I hate.... that. I guess I can give one example.
I had this dream about a guy that was dressed in these 90′s clothes. He was wearing a orange beanie and grey fuzzy vest over a white shirt with shorts... I was in a car or truck and he started banging on my window, yelling for me to get out. Fire was everywhere. I woke up to see a shadow figure looming over my bed. I flipped out. XD
Another time is I got these old books from my husband’s parents. His mom was getting rid of them and so I took them all. Old like their all from 1800′s to 1940′s.  One of the books... was a gift book that was for some society back in the 1800′s. I was reading it and saw a man at a desk writing and a woman reading. I kept taking in different people handling it. I went into our bedroom and a guy appeared. He wore a red hoodie, jeans, and a white shirt. He had messy brown hair, blue eyes with shadows beneath them and sunken in cheeks. He looked sickly and had no... space bubble. He was up on me, following me around. I told him to go away and I used my light to force him out of the house, before he even had a moment to show me anything. He scared me because he appeared out of no where and wouldn’t stop following me around. Plus I was getting dressed. No one wants that. XD I told my husband and he moves spirits on because he can. XD The guy appeared in his car, furious with me. He was mad that I had forced him out without even hearing him out. XD Anyway, I was walking back from our son’s school one day and the guy came back. He no longer had shadows beneath his eyes or had sunken in cheeks. He looked brighter, happier, but he still had no space bubble. He kept trying to grab my hand and I kept waving him off, but he kept walking with me. He did that a couple of times, but he never came back... Until, I was writing The Unwanted Ring and then he stood behind me a couple of times. XD
My parent’s house is haunted because when I was a teen, I thought it would be fun to use a spirit board, that I bought at Borders. DO NOT USE A OUIJA BOARD OF ANY KIND. DO NOT BUY ONE AT A THRIFT STORE. I say this because I bought a brand new one and did that with a friend. A man named Gregory came through and said how he was hung and what not. A sound of someone dropping onto the table occurred. My husbands aunt is wiccan and she can see things and hear things. She confirmed I had opened a portal there and that there was a giant spiritual root there already in that exact spot. Which makes sense because my parents house is built within a development that didn’t realize until it was too late... that they had built housing on Native American Burial Ground. Yet today... they are still building on it. sigh. Anyway, I forever am stuck with that spirit board because I’m not giving it to people. But I did go back and close that portal. I can’t get rid of the giant root. It’s been there for decades. :) But my parents still have ghost issues. haha Mostly family. My mom sages the house regularly. ^-^
I knew my grandma was gone before my parents came in to tell me when I was 7 years old because she had come in a dream to tell me.
Stuff like that. haha Here’s a drawing I did recently of the guy from the book that had no space bubble. XD

Mostly everything, yeah.
104. Do you miss anyone from your past?
Not really.
106. Ever broken someone’s heart?
I don’t think so. I remember towards the end of my senior year there was a girl in my grade who, in retrospect, was hitting on me/trying to hang out with me all the time. I was totally clueless and left her hanging, but I imagine I’m easy to get over.
108. What should you be doing?
Fuck off, it’s my birthday. I’ll do it tomorrow

130. Do you like subway?
The sandwich chain? No, it sucks ass.
132. Who’s the last person you had a deep conversation with?
Hey this is a duplicate question. Nice job, whoever originally posted this.

Yes. I won’t though.
136. Do you sleep with your doors open or closed?
Closed.
138. Curly or Straight hair?
Straight, but I don’t really care.
140. Summer or Winter?
They kinda suck equally, but I guess there isn’t any snow in Summer, so I’ll go with that.

I’m going to say April or May. Warm and breezy.
144. Dark, milk or white chocolate?
Milk, although I don’t really like sweets.
146. Was today a good day?
It was pretty good, went to the dispensary, bought a pipe that’s shaped like a wizard.
148. What’s your favourite quote?
Like this statement from the IRA following a botched assassination attempt on Margaret Thatcher and her cabinet: “Today we were unlucky, but remember we only have to be lucky once. You will have to be lucky always”
I also like a quote from a Maoist responding to Kruschev’s comment that while he was the son of a peasant while the Maoist was from the aristocracy: “We have something in common: we are both traitors to our class.”
150. Get the closest book next to you, open it to page 42, what’s the first line on that page?
From “The Best Short Stories of J.G. Ballard”: “I’m beginning to realize it was a mistake to put them in there-all those lights blazing down, the huge floors, high walls.”
Whew, that took awhile. Thanks for asking.

Hey, Kid, Catch The Ball
by Wayne Lerner
Fast ball. Down the middle. Crack! Hard liner to the third baseman. Heck! Out again.
It was the summer of 1957 and I was spending most of my time playing baseball in the alley. Our field was defined by the garbage cans on the left and right protecting their wooden garages in which the owners’ beat up Chevy or Buick lived. No foreign cars were ever seen on our streets unless the driver was from another neighborhood and had gotten lost. The cans were a challenge as they were constantly filled with so much rotting trash that the flies buzzing around would interfere with catching a lazy fly ball. Home plate was the wall of the tire factory which emitted the toxic smell of burning rubber from early morning to late at night. After an inning or two, however, you got used to it. No outfield fence, just the end of the block which seemed to be a 100 miles away.
If we didn’t play ball in the alleys, we played pinners against the front-stoop with a pinkie or fastpitch against the factory wall. What we didn’t want to do is hit our only league into the yard of Mr. Hardwick, who had Baron, the meanest German Shepard you could imagine on patrol. Baron drooled with desire when he saw us come near, the dream of tearing off a piece of our skin or even a finger or two making him crazy.
One June day, my Mother got a call from Uncle Howard. He worked for his Uncle at the Coady Brothers Meat Packing Company located in the Fulton Market District. Uncle Howard asked if he could take me to my first professional ball game at Comiskey Park. He knew that I loved baseball and the White Sox. I was so excited when I heard the news that I ran around the apartment whooping and hollering.
Fulton Market housed many meat, seafood and produce firms throughout the 18 and 1900’s. Visitors to the Market could be overwhelmed by the cacophony of noise produced by the truck and car traffic and the disgusting smells which hung over the area. Men in their dirty overalls, with cigarettes hanging from their mouths, screamed out customers’ names to deliver their orders. By 3pm, however, the silence would be deafening as the clean up crews quietly scrubbed the shelves and aisles and washed the floors to get ready for the 6am start the next day.
Coady Brothers had season’s tickets which Uncle Howard frequently used. I didn’t know it at the time but the company supplied all of the meat to Comiskey Park. Thus, the brothers had access to the Owners’ private dining area, the Bard’s Room, and a special relationship with the owners, manager and coaches of the team.
Early the following Saturday, we got into my father’s 1955 Chevrolet to meet Uncle Howard at the Market. He had stopped there to prepare a special order to take with him to the game. Uncle Howard was putting a large brown wrapper package in the trunk of his white Bonneville as we rolled to a stop. Much to my surprise, I saw my cousins, Myra and Alan, in their Dad’s car. I didn’t know they were going but I was thrilled. I liked them a lot and now knew I would not have to talk to Uncle Howard all by myself for the whole game. I jumped in their car so excited that I don’t think I even said goodbye to my parents.
We went south on Halsted until we reached 35th and then turned left. Comiskey Park started to come into view. It slowly flooded the front windshield with its arched windows and immense, white structure. Uncle Howard pulled into the lot right next to the stadium and parked near gate three, the home plate entrance.
Uncle Howard greeted a man in a blue suit and handed him the brown wrapper package.
“This is for Al,” He said. “Please make sure to give it to him before the game.” We went through the turnstiles and began to climb a large set of stairs. As we approached the main concourse, the smells permeated our senses. Popcorn, caramel corn, hotdogs, french fries, hamburgers, grilled onions, beer. Almost anything you could imagine was being prepared in anticipation of the big crowd that day, as the Sox were playing the Yankees. The Sox were in second place, 4 games out of first.
We walked through the entry portal and, as we did, the field revealed itself before our eyes. I was overwhelmed by the enormity of the stadium.
“I knew it was big but not this big,” I said to my cousins. They just laughed. “It’s your first time, isn’t it? Every time we come here, we get the same feeling.”
My eyes followed the long main aisle which separated the lower boxes from the upper ones. The box seats surrounded the entire field until they met the outfield walls. I could see the outfield seats stretch from the left field foul pole to the one in right. A towering second deck spanned the entire park, except for centerfield. The upper deck seemed to be hundreds of feet high, reaching almost to the sky. In centerfield, above the bleacher seats, was the main scoreboard.
Uncle Howard’s seats were in box 58, the first row below the main aisle, just to the left of the screen, right behind home plate. I was in awe. I stood there, immobile, taking in the sights, smells and sounds and oblivious to everyone around me.
I had brought my mitt to the park in the hopes that I could catch a foul ball. Given where our seats were, there was a slim chance that could happen. I would have to be ready as any foul ball coming towards us would be a piercing line drive off the player’s bat.
“Are you ok?” Myra said. “What’s the matter with you”
“He’s fine, Myra.” Alan laughed. “Leave him alone. He’s gone into that dream world of his. He thinks he is a major leaguer. He’ll wake up when the hot dog guy comes around.”
I watched the players taking batting practice and playing pepper along the sidelines. Some of them were doing stretching exercises on the field as both teams were warming up for the competition that day. I was so close that I could hear them talking to one another. Sometimes, they would swear out loud if they missed a ball thrown to them or a ball pitched to them in the batting cage. Every so often, they would spit out this black stuff from the wad in their mouth and then go back to chewing whatever it was.
“Gross,” I thought. “But I guess this is what you do when you get to the majors. I wonder if this is something they learn in the minor leagues. Gross.”
We saw the hot dog guy and were getting ready to eat when Uncle Howard tapped me on the arm. “Come with me, I’ve got something to show you,” he said with a twinkle in his eye.
“Something was up,” I thought, “but I had no idea what. Was I going into the Bard’s Room and maybe meet the owner? Or was he going to introduce me to one of the retired players who were now working for the Sox?”
We went to the aisle just to our left, took a right turn down the steps and approached the brick wall separating the seating area from the playing field. On my left was the White Sox dugout, along the third base side. The Yankees, the dreaded Bronx Bombers, were warming up on the first base side.
As we drew closer to the wall, I saw the metal gate which led from the seats to the field. We stood there for a moment when an Andy Frain usher came over to us. After shaking Uncle Howard‘s hand, he opened the gate. We walked out onto the field where Uncle Howard introduced me to, of all people, the manager of the White Sox, Al Lopez. He was talking to his coaches about the Sox lineup.
My heart stopped.
“Al Lopez! I’m on the field at Comiskey! And he’s going to talk to me!” I thought.
My hands got sweaty and my throat was dry. “Don’t faint,” I said to myself. “This will never happen again!”
“Al,” he said, “this is my nephew, Wayne. He’s never been to a professional baseball game before but he’s a big Sox fan. I thought we should give him a little thrill.”
Mr. Lopez just smiled at me and said, “We will certainly show him a good time today because we’re going to beat the Yankees badly.“
I just nodded and smiled but couldn’t talk. I was paralyzed with excitement.
He called over to one of his coaches who walked me into the dugout.
There was Little Looey, Luis Aparicio, Nellie Fox and even Billy Pierce.
I could barely breathe. This was a surreal moment for me, seven years old, in Comiskey Park, in the dugout, talking to my heroes. I knew that I would never, ever again have this opportunity to be around professional ballplayers. I was a chubby, nerdy, average athlete who would never graduate from the alley league.
All of a sudden, one of the younger players grabbed me by the jersey and said, “Follow me. We have a job to do.“ He guided me to the outfield where there were dozens of baseballs from batting practice lying on the field. “Your job, with these other boys, is to pick up all the balls and put them in the baskets.”
I learned later that the other kids were the sons of the coaches or the players who were used to having access to the field and interacting with all the players. This was certainly not the case for this kid from the west side.
I started to pick up the balls and put them in the basket. Every so often, I stopped to look around the park as people began to take their seats. I imagined what it would be like to be a ball player, standing in the outfield, awaiting the pitch and getting ready to move at a moment’s notice. No sir. I was not in the alley trying to get away from Baron, the boy eating dog, or the hundreds of garbage can flies.
I was in my little dreamland again when I heard a voice coming from my left. There was “Jungle Jim” Rivera, waving off everyone so he could catch the batting practice flyball. An outfielder, normally, today, he was playing first base.
“Hey, kid, “he growled, “Wanna catch one?”
I stood there paralyzed, unable to move. I looked around the double deck park which was teaming with people. The sounds ringing in my ears and the smell of the grass and the food overwhelming my senses.
“Kid, “he hollered, “get your ass over here ‘cause there’s another ball comin’ off the bat.”
I ran next to Rivera knowing, with trepidation, that there was no way I could make that catch. My eyes are terrible and I couldn’t judge where the ball might land. In the alleys and on the fields at Columbus Park, I played first base because all I had to do was catch the occasional pop up and the throws from the infielders. I could do that.
Time after time, fly balls were hit and, as the balls came down, Rivera moved away to try and let me make the catch. Time after time, I missed. Actually, I was fortunate that I didn’t get beaned trying to catch the major league fly balls.
Finally, Rivera grabbed my Sox jersey and pulled me next to him. We stood there and watched a ball rise from the fungo bat at home plate to reach its apex just below the top of the upper deck. The ball was hit to mid left field, far from the wall behind us.
All of a sudden, he ran to his left and then started back. He jerked forward because he realized that the wind was coming from behind him, pushing the ball towards home plate. He stopped quickly and hollered, “Stand right there!”
I stopped thinking. I stopped hearing. I stop smelling. I stopped doing anything because I looked up and the ball was coming down right where I was standing.
“Put your glove up now! “he yelled. As I did, the ball smacked into my mitt with the same sound every pro hears when he makes a catch. It didn’t just sting, it hurt more than I could ever imagine. The ball landed right in the mitt’s pocket, the area with the least amount of leather. I let out a scream. My hand pulsed with pain so great that I was sure I couldn’t even hold a hot dog any time today. I needed ice. Now!
Jungle Jim roared with delight when I looked into my glove and saw the ball. My legs turned to jelly and I felt like I was going to collapse. For a moment, I really had no idea where I was. The sights and sounds of the park went blank. Then, Rivera grabbed me by the arm and started to walk me back to our seats. As we approached the left field foul line, he stopped, looked down at me and smiled. ”Think it’s easy to be a pro, kid? Welcome to the bigs!”
Uncle Howard met me by the gate with the usher and they escorted me back to my seat. My cousins were there with big smiles on their faces because they knew that this was my once-in-a-lifetime occasion.
The game progressed that day and we ate our way through the nine innings. I don’t remember whether the White Sox won or lost but it really didn’t matter. I was a White Sox fan, I was at my first game and I caught my first major league ball.
