One of the funniest things about “Hatchet Town” is that over the course of three musicals and Nightmare Time, most, if not a significant number Hatchetfield residents HAVE committed murder or been accomplices/accessories to murder in at least one timeline. To the point where if you randomly accused pretty much anyone in town of being a murderer, there’s a good chance you’d be right.

doctor who is about music . well it’s been running for sixty years so it can’t really be about anything, there is no constant now but change, so if it’s about anything then it’s about change, time and memory. which makes it about music. i sound crazy but what i really mean is if i was more eloquent then i could um. i could articulate this. the doctor’s primary tool works its magic by manipulating sound, like a conductor’s baton? i have made a post about the theme of music in doctor who before and i’m going to reblog it above so i don’t need to reiterate myself. anyway

point is, russell could prove to be a sheer showrunning genius if he succeeds at his attempt to finally bring this theme to the forefront through inventing a music-themed campy villain to act as one of new-new-who series 1’s big bads. the way that this string of ideas began back in the 60th specials, with the TARDIS mysteriously playing wild blue yonder followed by the toymaker plagiarising the master’s trademark act by throwing a song and dance number of his own… i am so so excited for what the future holds now that the doctor dances, seeminly unencumbered by guilt this time. hang in there ruby . ruby’s a musician of all things too, on the keys like missy once was. much to think about. the giggle’s an arpeggio

there's such a theme of WANTING in all the hatchetfield verse stuff, particularly in all three main musicals - 'what do you want, paul', 'what tim wants', 'what do you want, steph?' and if i really put some thought into it i could write an entire essay about it all.

it's mainly a major theme in tgwdlm - the aliens need to know what paul's true desires/wants are and are only able to get close enough to infect him once he admits he wants there to be something more with emma. i can't think of a particular scene in black friday aside from 'what tim wants', lmk if y'all can think of smth. npmd, you have the lords in black with their 'whatever we want we get' chant, they want steph to lose what she wants the most, 'what do you want, steph?', and i'm sure there's an example in nightmare time too...

idk it's just such a running theme and i wanna pick at the lang brothers brains so badly bc it fascinates me so much.

Can I just go off about this for a minute? Like, it cuts me to my core how @projectdestati incorporates character themes into relevant songs. This is my favorite so much because it's so subtle, but fits so perfectly.

This version of Treasured Memories solemnly incorporates Rikus theme in a way that is just so beautiful and perfect that it might outshine Rikus theme as a stand alone peice because if how much more weight it carries in the context of Treasured Memories.

It works because Treasured Memories is meant to play when Sora is reflecting on someone he misses- we see that mostly when he thinks of Riku.

We also know that Riku is a deep comfort and grounding presence in Soras life-- a constant in his most precious memories of childhood. We see this in Dream Drop where memories with him and Riku are featured most prominently in the Dive to Sora's sleeping heart.

Green Requiem has a phenomenal series on YouTube discussing the nuances of the KH Music, but I'd really love to do a mini series in the vein of @violethowler's Constructing Kingdoms series mixed with @tennelleflowers 's speculative video essays and @nikutsuneart 's Sleeping Realm theories.

I wonder how much foreshadowing we can uncover from the musically score alone... My music theory is shit, but I feel like there is a lot of hidden evidence to be uncovered and speculated upon regarding the series.

Hank, Sanford and Deimos with a Reader who does Handcrafts

Gonna post my old MadCom stuff since people seem interested in it! I didn't write too much back then, but I'll post it anyway and hope for some MadCom requests as well! What the title says! Reader knits, crochets and embroiders in this! The format is different from how I usually write, but that's because I wrote this months ago, if not in 2022! I don't remember when, but it's been a while since I wrote this!

Hank

If you get his attention while doing one of your crafts, expect him to just stare at you for a while. He knows what knitting is, since you can use those needles to stab someone with enough force, but he never really cared much for any of it. So, seeing you do those small, but precise movements has him somewhat curious. If you beckon him closer to check out what you’re doing, he will approach you, taking your piece from your hands and gently examining it, before returning it to you.

While he won’t join you that often due to his occupation, Hank will lie down next to you from time to time, watching you work until he falls asleep eventually. Doing so next to you, especially when you’re knitting or doing embroidery, takes a lot of trust on his behalf, so it’s a rather rare occurrence, but it might happen. Still, sometimes even Nevada’s most wanted can’t resist getting some sleep in.

If you give him a scarf or anything of the likes it might seem like he doesn’t like it at first. As he only grunts in acknowledgement and doesn’t wear it, it might seem disheartening at first glance. But rest assured, he’s well aware that him wearing it would only get it covered in blood, and he wouldn’t want your creation, that you put so much love into, to get sullied like that. Hank does keep it somewhere hidden where only he can find it so that it won’t get stolen as well, he truly does treasure anything you give him.

Sanford

He has helped his mother crocheting every once in a while when he was young by holding her wool for her. Sanford always thought it to be really cool how you can make something so beautiful out of something as simple as wool and yarn. Much like he did when he was younger, he’ll hold your yarn for you, making it more comfortable to knit or crochet for you. Unlike Hank and Deimos, he will try to learn it as well. It seems relaxing, so why not? But by no means is he a master. Due to his strength, he will likely rip the yarn and wool apart from time to time and come to you for help.

In order to relax and unwind a bit, he’ll likely come to you and ask if you would like to practise your craft for and with him. Having you around in and of itself already makes Sanford happy, but just getting to spend time with you without having to worry about being killed by the enemy makes it all the better. If you let him, he will hold you close, lean into you, put you on his lap, anything you’re comfortable with.

Please give him a sweater. Because he’s never wearing a shirt he gets cold fairly easily. He’ll cherish it dearly and wear it whenever he can, and whenever he knows it won’t get ripped. Another thing he’d be very happy with would be a piece of embroidery. It reminds him of better times and gives him hope, especially when your piece of art is something pleasant and sweet to look at. Because of that, he will put it up somewhere in his room where he can always see it. Even if Deimos makes fun of him for it, he will simply lightly jab at the smoker, all the while smiling at it.

Deimos

He’ll lovingly call you a grandma for having hobbies like these. Even while doing embroidery, where you stab things thousands of times, he will snicker at you whenever he catches you doing any of these things. Though, he doesn’t mind that sort of thing at all since that means you’ll be sitting still for a while, meaning you’ll give him a chance to unwind with him. Deimos will wrap his arms around you, leaning onto you or just cuddle into you in general. No fighting, no getting hurt, just watching you do the same movements over and over again.

Despite possibly calling you boring, he does have great respect for your craft, since he can’t do any of it. It’s too tedious and he can’t sit around for long enough doing something like this. It’s simply not exciting enough. But the moment you give him his first sweater, he will think it’s the most awesome thing to ever exist. Proud as a peacock, he will flaunt and taunt his new piece of clothing, especially to Sanford and Hank, declaring just what a great lover he has.

Present him with a plushie and his mind will be blown. He always thought knitting and crocheting are just for woolly hats and sweaters and scarves and all. If he sees you made him a tiny grunt, he will simply lose it, run around the Status Quo base and show everyone what you’re capable of. It doesn’t even matter to him whether or not it looks good. Your hands are magical to him and absolutely everyone has to know just how cool and epic you are.

So here’s a project I’ve not advertised at all. No Requests: Live! From the Tavern is an Adult focused Edutainment series focused on discussing Art, Music, and Media. Each episode is broken up into segments that work together in a playlist including various other videos on Youtube. This means Music Videos, short films, and other video essays, curated together with extra commentary from the host of the show, Tavern Barz.

That’s a weird and unnecessarily complicated format, why are you doing this?

It’s really easy in this day and age to use Youtube videos as a replacement for other content. I mean, why watch a two hour movie when you can watch a 20 minute recap?

This is a bad habit. Critique is important aspect to a good media diet, but a diet consisting solely of critique misses the point completely. In order to talk about media, we must also experience it.

This format means we don’t directly compete with the art featured. Rather, Tavern Barz acts as a museum curator, and the other media in the playlists serve as the actual art itself. The original videos will get their view, and… as a nice little bonus, I get to avoid the copyright bots.

Why are you using a cartoon?

I mean, I’m an animator. I don’t know what else to tell you. Why does the Chocolate guy use chocolate when clay will last longer?

But also, I don’t really have any desire to host the show as myself. There’s a hundred and ten other Youtubers who will get on camera to talk about stuff, and like, I don’t have the room for that.

Besides, Tavern is a character distinct from me. As a writer, I have full control over the narrative I want to tell, and placing myself in the center of that just feels weird. Tavern’s allowed to act and be weird and hypocritical. Tavern is allowed to grow as a character in ways you can’t really depict through the lens of literal documentary filmmaking.

So that Cyclops character isn’t just your rantsona vtuber avatar?

I mean, in a very literal sense, Tavern is a Vtuber. They are a virtual character serving as the host for a real show on Youtube.

But Tavern’s also an OC with lore and a planned Story Arc. The pilot is admittedly pretty bare bones with all this, but I intent to incorporate more story elements as the series goes on.

Alright, so what’s the lore then?

Tavern Barz is the Cycloptic owner of the Tavern Barz Tavern, a fifth dimensional divebar thar exists all across Time and Space. After several eternities of service, Tavern thinks they know it all.

This is not true.

Is this project family friendly?

Not really. The main character is a bartender, so there's a lot of alcohol focus. Plus, a lot of the featured videos will also contain plenty of adult themes.

The pilot is pretty mild. There's some swearing, but nothing too serious. But the non original videos might have adult themes. I have some later episodes planned, including one focused on The Male Gaze, and in those cases, I can't in good conscience recommend these videos to minors.

All in all, I like to call the tone of the project comfortably adult. I'm not going out of my way to be edgy, but I'm also not censoring myself. If this were an actual TV series, it's probably be TV-14. Edgier than the Simpsons, not as edgy as Rick and Morty, so about the level of Futurama.

When will this project release?

April, 2024. As of the time of this writing, the first episode is basically finished except for the credits, but I also need sometime to compile my sources, write descriptions, and make some thumbnails, as well as advertise the project.

ALSO!!! Quigley plays the ACCORDION!!! 🪗 I’m saying it’s Quigley who plays it bc in TSS he mentions reading a book by L.Snicket on how to play the accordion!

(Also there’s some pretty cool foreshadowing of ‘The Carnivorous Carnival’ with there being a miniature circus tent under the table in their bedroom!!! 🎪)

Is it me or is there a huge amount of promo for hsmtmts and especially rina for a show that’s just ended? Is it just wishful thinking that this is a good sign for a potential spin off/movie?? Do you think there is any chance?

I wouldn’t say it’s because of a spin off. I’m still on the fence about it but time will tell. I think it’s more they know Rina is a huge marketing tool and they should’ve used them way earlier. The show itself had the material to have way more marketing utilizing the ships, the songs and the nostalgia element. Disney dropped the ball on their marketing because they only care about their MCU/Star Wars shows and not the original material which is why I think the fact HSMTMTS got around until Season 4 (and by the creators choice not less) speaks about the audience and how much they should’ve put their marketing as a priority because even with the soundtrack alone they could’ve generated a lot of money if they marketed that side as well.

okay okay okay okay theory!!!! this is based solely off my memory and delusions so if i'm like wrong just let me live in my lies for another week lol

there were three figures on the map when sabine opened it in 1x01. a bunch of us were screaming about it being the mortis gods and i just assumed oh guess not when she didn't say something despite being there to see the painting at the lothal jedi temple but ANYWAY i think they're still connected. three figures three mortis gods father son daughter yes yes yes they are on the map when the sphere is unlocked so safe to say they are somehow in some representation within the carvings/engravings of the sphere. SO ahsoka ends up in the world between worlds after touching the activated sphere.....touching it with her HAND......and what was so important about the mortis gods on the lothal painting???? their HANDS. ezra used the force to connect with the painting and move the hands of the gods to open/close the portal SO i think by touching it somehow ahsoka opened up a portal and that is how she is in the world between worlds. the key is that she touched it while it was actively being used to transmit coordinates...that's how i'm explaining why this didn't happen anytime anyone else touched it. either that or the fact that ahsoka has been there before it is important to her and ezra and fucking being alive and ezra and vader and anakin and kajkdjkfjsljks

I just have a question to ask about Tim's IG post, "Not Canon (at this time)"? What does that even mean? Does that mean it'll be canon when spinoff is happening? Or...I am trying to figure out what he meant by that, haha. I think it's hint hint for a spinoff, am I right or is it something else that I might misinterpret it?

Oh I wanted to talk about this so thank you for sending!! For anyone who is curious, it was this post:

This is not the only hint he has made about a possible spin-off.

He’s said (I can’t go find all the direct quotes right now but I can give you what I can remember and I’ll post some pictures at the end):

-he’s wanted 5-7 seasons since the beginning

-he feels like the kids are graduating high school for now but the “next obvious place is college”

-he has brought up ideas to the network but nothing is official for now

-he has specifically mentioned Ricky and Gina and where THEY are going next (in the picture above and other interviews)

-he has a “surprise” for everyone after the show ends… which looked like something at East High but I haven’t seen the actual surprise. Unless he was talking about their Wicked song, but even then the picture of him mentioning the surprise didn’t look like the Wicked song set up… it looked different. (I’m so sorry I don’t have this picture but if anyone has it feel free to reblog with it!)

-he wanted the franchise to be “Degrassi”-esque with lots of spin-offs and seasons and such. It was never meant to end here.

Not to mention when Josh and Sofia were asked about a spin-off they just giggled and shrugged nervously but made jokes about it being a rina college spin off (the body language is suspicious and telling)

And the official HSMTMTS account (which I believe Tim has some control over) posted a really cryptic tweet/insta about how “happy endings are just the beginning”

HSMTMTS cast was invited to D23 I believe? This year which is only for announcing NEW things usually so it’s kind of weird to slot a show that’s ended?

I find the amount of promo we’re getting from Tim and the official HSMTMTS account is… bizarre for a show that just ended? Maybe we’d get stuff for a few days but they’ve been hammering it home like we’re getting a new season next week. I don’t really watch promo for a lot of other shows though, so this could be a normal amount.

We also know that the strike is impacting a LOT of things, including promotion or talks of new shows. Tim wouldn’t do a movie/show for this without his og cast on board, so I feel like they’re waiting for the strike to be over to start things.

All of this to say, I do think we’re getting more but the strike really halted any of that coming forth for now. But with how good the show did, the contract Tim just signed with Disney, and how we were really starting to get moment with these characters (not to mention views and $$$ it was bringing in for Disney), I would be SHOCKED if we didn’t get more.

Tim purposely ended the show where he did because he wanted it to end on a high note and close the “high school” chapter, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get another. I think Disney was probably ready to offer him a s5 but he didn’t want to risk it… with a new show, he can at least probably get 4 more seasons.

(don’t ask me what the hell is going on with bunk’d and their 7 seasons… I’m still trying to process that)

okay, i have to ask, does anyone think the valentine chocolates will be brought up this season?

i kind of really want gina to find out ricky got them. (not so much for the romantic part, but more so to do with the fact that she’ll be aware that she wasn’t reading too much into things. that she was right! just the satisfaction of her knowing that) ever since ricky’s version of the confession got posted i cannot stop thinking about it. i have always been a chocolate theory thruther. those three random bows on the box? yeah, that had ricky bowen written all over it! and gina’s mom saying “i found a way to get them to you last minute” how? please explain! it never made sense. ricky reaching out to her mom because he knows how much it means for gina because she told him makes sense!

they brought them up again in the first episode of season three. which, took me by surprise, because i had thought they would’ve left it in season two. then they didn’t bring it up since. i was waiting for them to address them. with the confession posted mentioning them, it makes sense why they had brought it up the first episode. it’s a shame it hasn’t gotten a proper conclusion yet. i think that’s what makes me so frustrated. i just need a conclusion.

with gina’s mom probably having more screen time and a bigger role this season there could be a scene where it’s finally addressed. imo her mom slipping up and telling gina accidentally can be a good way of bringing it up in a way that’s natural and not forced.

some people (rinis) were saying it’s “cheating” when the scripts got posted but me personally? i do not care! i love emotional cheaters! *olivia wilde nodding gif*

but jokes aside, he got them for a friend! he wasn’t completely aware of his feelings at the time, he just wanted to do something nice for a friend. (did he actually have feelings? well, that’s obvious even if the chocolates weren’t a thing) what rinis are getting upset over is the fact that ricky had feelings for gina all this time, since season one, (like rinas had said!) and they have been trying to deny that for the past seasons. so the chocolates destroys all of their arguments and their narrative that “he never liked her” and whatever else they say because they cannot fathom ricky loving someone that’s not nini. when it was made obvious he had developed feelings for her. but this is another story for another time.

i usually find youtube comments sections pretty low-brain, but one of my favorite bits of cleverness i've ever seen came from a youtube comment under a math video of someone explaining how they did it using music theory. and this is right up my alley so i'm going to break it down.

the problem in the video was "approximate log_2(3) without a calculator", and they did it using purely mathematical methods and a tiny bit of memorization. but you can actually do this with a basic understanding of tuning theory:

basically, there's this thing in music called the harmonic series. its a sequence of notes starting from some root pitch and ascending in whole number multiples of that pitch. for example, if you start from C:

each note in this sequence has a frequency n times the frequency of C5. get it?

now, even though this would be the "perfect" way to tune things, we don't actually tune notes this way - because it doesn't work if you change your root note. instead, western music is tuned to what's called 12-tone equal temperment (12tet), in which the ratio between two adjacent notes is exactly the same:

the ratio x is picked such that an octave is still x2. so x turns out to be the 12th root of 2.

anyway, how does this help with the original problem? well, these concepts give us two ways to think about a similar musical interval. consider the difference between C and G:

in the harmonic series, this distance is a x3 multiplication. however, in 12tet, this is 19 steps, each multiplying by the 12th root of 2. written another way, that gives 19/12 = log_2(3).

19/12 is 1.58333..., while log_2(3) is about 1.585. that's accurate to two decimal places.

in fact, the approximation isn't just really close - it can be considered optimally good among other fractions of a similar length. that's because mathematicians have a way to derive best fractional approximations for any irrational number, and on that list for log_2(3), 19/12 is there:

that's a cool solution to an arbitrary math problem, but also it's quite cool from a music theory perspective! it gives a reason for why it's not only appropriate for the western scale to has 12 notes in it, but that it'd be surprising for it not to have 12 notes in it, given that 19/12 approximates the 3rd note in the harmonic series so well.
