Okay, so maybe I’m late to the party and everyone else already figured this out, but-
Of course Workin’ Boys strikes a chord with Ted. It’s the story of a man who drifted apart from people he was extremely close friends with in college that he had (or so it’s HEAVILY implied) unspoken romantic feelings for.

Starkid giveth (Jeff is playing Hidgens in the workin' boys short film) and starkid taketh away (meaning once again there won't be a McNamara appearance, since Jeff is already playing a main character)

Hatchetverse theory: As many have speculated, Mark Chasity from NPMD is also Mark from “Workin’ Boys” (but it’s more complicated than you might think…)
More thoughts under the keep reading, part of my #hatchetverse theory posts.
Tumblr media
Despite the popularity of the “Mark Chasity is Mark from Workin’ Boys” headcanon, some Starkid fans will say that there is no way Mark Chasity can be Mark from the “Workin’ Boys” (even though Curt Mega plays them both), because even if the “playing football, majoring in business, and getting struck by lightning” thing happened in a different timeline than NPMD, it still doesn’t explain how he can have Grace as a daughter in Workin’ Boys if he died years before she was born.
I, however, would like to humbly offer the following alternatives:
A) In the Workin’ Boys timeline, Mark dies after Grace is born. Depending on how old Grace’s parents were when they had Grace and got married and how old Mark was when he died (possibly just out of college), this could imply that like little Jerry in “Lumberaxe”, Grace was also born out of wedlock and Mark and Karen had her in college before they got married (though this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case as they could have just gotten married really young, and honestly, I could see that with these two. Plus I want to see the drama that would unfold within the Workin’ Boys over who gets to be Mark’s best man).
Tumblr media
B) I suppose it could also technically be possible Grace was never Mark’s daughter to begin with (she’s actually adopted or Karen had an affair), but nothing in NPMD implies either of these are true, and that wouldn’t explain why Grace would still have Mark’s last name in a Workin’ Boys timeline where he died before she was born (unless the family uses Karen’s last name or a new one they made up).
C) Like her daughter, Karen Chasity fell for a ghost. Or maybe they were already dating before Mark was struck by lightning. But in the NPMD timeline, after Mark dies, he (for some reason) keeps most of his normal personality and is just a normal friendly ghost. Like Max Jagerman’s ghost, people can see him, and he can interact with people. Maybe he has a personal vendetta or grudge against Henry which is why he haunts him in “Workin’ Boys”, but besides that, nothing changes. Mark is just a ghost now. Hence why Grace has a strong connection to the afterlife and is always warning people about hell (the black), and why the LIB are so focused on targeting her in NPMD: she’s technically “half-ghost”. Anyway, this could also possibly be part of why Mark wants to sell the Waylon Place (could be some afterlife business he needs to take care of).
D) In the NPMD timeline, Henry is struck by lightning and dies instead of Mark. I don’t think we see Henry or hear any mention of him in NPMD, so this is possible. In the “Workin’ Boys” timeline, Mark dies but still has Grace as his daughter due to any of the three reasons listed above.

Yknow what, with the Workin’ Boys short and ergo Henry Hidgens being on ppls minds im gonna say a hot take: THAM has damaged people’s perceptions of Hidgens as a character and i know that his behavior in THAM is not normal. I feel like THAM Hidgens is him at his worst, mentally. Like yes Hidgens is mentally unstable but hes not evil.
Like, just comparing his behavior in THAM to his in TGWDLM makes it blatantly obvious, bc yes hidgens betrayed the group, but he did it bc he thought that being infected would save humanity from its own self destruction. Like look me in the eyes and tell me the same Henry Hidgens that let Emma and a bunch of strangers into his home (all bc emma brought him groceries once), let them have full range of his bar, saved them from being infected and gave paul his shotgun to go help bill, and studied the blue shit to help find a way to stop the hivemind before coming to the conclusion it might be their salvation…is the same Hidgens that tried to trick some poor woman into marrying ted pretending to be the ape man to steal her fortune, who even killed her ex fiance, ted, and almost her and even mocking them in the process, just to fund Workin’ Boys.
That said, i do think Hidgens has the potential to become how he is in THAM, im just saying that that isnt how he is naturally. I theorize that THAM Hidgens is a Hidgens that snapped a long time ago, and his obsession with getting what is essentially a grief-fuelled trauma piece dedicated to his deceased best friends published overwriting any morality he may have had.

Does anyone pretty please have a shareable version? It’s breaking my heart not to have seen it

So I dreamt that Ruth Fleming was The Flash. Once again, not sure what that means but damn I’d love to see that story.

So was anyone going to inform me that I should filter spoilers for more than just Workin’ Boys between losing my paused-spot in the stream when I got back from dinner and the Video-On-Demand access becoming available

A bit of a spoiler for Workin’ Boys
I’m not sure if it’s not really spoiler, someone feel free to tell me so I can edit this post
So we know Hidgens was the only one who didn’t die out of the six and wrote a musical dedicated to his boys in their memory
Two timelines he dies during said musical (TGWDLM and Workin’ Boys)
Considering the fact that there are multiple timelines with multiple possibilities,
There are probably some, not a lot but some, timelines where a different boy lives and tells the tale about his friends in a different format

The lighting is yellow and blue, could this mean a possible Tinky and Pokey connection?

We already know who the killer in Cast Party Massacre is going to be
I keep a running list of horror tropes that haven’t been used in Hatchetfield yet. One of them is Among Us, because I could absolutely see the Langs doing a story where a group of characters have to figure out who among them is an alien imposter.
In Workin’ Boys, Cassandra (Cassie) King’s program bio features phrases such as “Pain is the language that unites the children of Azzokish no matter which star they may hail from” and “How did she find herself aboard? And what is the destination of such a significant ship? Is tonight the night Cassie departs?”. We know that extraterrestrial life exists in the Hatchetfield universe because of a line in The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals where Alice, Deb, and The Hatchetfield Bee mention having traveled “across seas of stars, bending countless civilizations to our will”. Cassie’s bio seems to suggest that she has been sent to earth from one of these civilizations, and is waiting to be able to return home.
Tumblr media
Cast Party Massacre, the proposed Hatchetfield feature film, would be Hatchetfield’s first whodunnit. However, this being Hatchetfield, there will inevitably be some sort of paranormal, extraterrestrial, or interdimensional element to it. Cassie is an actor in the Hatchetfield Community Players, and the Langs wouldn’t have put all that cryptic lore in her bio if it wasn’t important, so Cassie seems destined to be the killer behind…the Cast Party Massacre!
